- 0:00Hey guys. I'm Josiah.
- 0:02And I'm Judah, welcome to our Hero series, where we tell you
- 0:06about an awesome hero in the Bible.
- 0:08This week we're going to mix it up a bit.
- 0:10We're going to have two heroes. And guess what?
- 0:14These heroes are really awesome because they're girls.
- 0:18Yeah, that's cool that they're girls, but they're actually
- 0:20heroes because they were obedient to God.
- 0:23I knew that. Our heroes this week are Mary
- 0:26and Elizabeth. Josiah, tell me what you know
- 0:30about Mary. OK, Mary is Jesus's mom.
- 0:35That's it. That's all you know.
- 0:38Hold on I I know more. Mary was highly favored by God.
- 0:43Out of all the women he could have picked to give birth to
- 0:45Jesus, God chose her. One day Mary was minding her own
- 0:49business, went bam. An Angel, the Lord named
- 0:53Gabriel, appeared to her and told her not to be afraid.
- 0:56The Angel told her that she would give birth to the Savior
- 0:58and she would name him Jesus. That's right.
- 1:02In fact, Mary was a little confused because she didn't know
- 1:04how she could get pregnant, but the Angel told her that the Holy
- 1:08Spirit would come upon her and. Why didn't we draw the Holy
- 1:10Spirit? Because he's a spirit, you can't
- 1:13see him here. Is that better?
- 1:16Yeah, that's much better. Thanks.
- 1:18OK, then the Angel told Mary that one of her relatives was
- 1:22also pregnant and she had been pregnant for six months.
- 1:26Want to guess who her relative was?
- 1:28Well, isn't it obvious it's Queen Elizabeth?
- 1:32No. Sophia the first no how?
- 1:40Just. That Who is this other hero that
- 1:42we're talking about? Elizabeth.
- 1:45Wait, what's so great about Elizabeth being pregnant that
- 1:47makes her hero like Mary? You see, Elizabeth getting
- 1:51pregnant was also a miracle because she was really old and
- 1:55couldn't have kids. The baby that was inside of
- 1:58Elizabeth was named John and that's who we call John the
- 2:01Baptist. John was a gift from God and he
- 2:05was the person who would bring the people back to obeying God
- 2:08and he would prepare the way for Jesus to come.
- 2:11Oh, that's right, John the Baptist.
- 2:14He was the guy who baptized Jesus.
- 2:17I didn't know that they were related.
- 2:19It gets better. Oh, tell me, tell me.
- 2:21When Mary found out that she was pregnant, she went to go visit
- 2:25Elizabeth and when Mary came in the room, the baby that was
- 2:28inside of Elizabeth's tummy jumped with joy.
- 2:31What? The baby knew that Jesus was
- 2:34inside of Mary's stomach and got happy.
- 2:37That's right. But how did he know he couldn't
- 2:41see because he was inside of Elizabeth's tummy.
- 2:44Wait, did he have X-ray vision? No, the Holy Spirit told him.
- 2:51Oh, of course. Wow, Mary and Elizabeth, they
- 2:56were heroes because God chose them and trusted them to be the
- 2:59mothers of Jesus and John the Baptist.
- 3:02I bet that they were incredible women for God to choose them.
- 3:09Hey guys. I'm Josiah.
- 3:10And I'm Judah, welcome to our Hero series, where we tell you
- 3:14about an awesome hero in the Bible.
- 3:16The hero that we're going to learn about look like he never
- 3:19showered and he hates grasshoppers and honey all the
- 3:21time. That's right.
- 3:24And even though he sounds weird, Jesus said that he was the
- 3:27greatest prophet of all time. Give it up for someone we all
- 3:31know and love. The guy with the cupcakes and
- 3:33the mice. Mr. Curly Hair himself, Mr. John
- 3:37the Baptist, that's. Funny.
- 3:41Hey, what's so funny? Wait, you're being serious?
- 3:45Yeah, I am. Josiah, Mr. John does baptize
- 3:50people, but he isn't the hero from the Bible.
- 3:53Today. Our hero is John the Baptist.
- 3:56Oh wait, why is he so clean? I thought he looked like he
- 4:01never took showers. He was my hero.
- 4:03I asked him to clean up. You can't ask a cartoon to take
- 4:06a bath. Come on, Judah, even I know that
- 4:10well. Who is John the Baptist?
- 4:13Do you remember the baby that was inside of Elizabeth's tummy
- 4:16that started jumping when Mary walked in the room to tell her
- 4:19that she was pregnant with Jesus?
- 4:21Oh yeah, that's him. Hey, he's Jesus cousin, right?
- 4:26Exactly. Well, his job was to prepare the
- 4:29way for Jesus to tell people to turn from their sins and repent,
- 4:33and he would also baptize people as a way for them to be forgiven
- 4:37of their sins. But that's not how it works
- 4:39anymore. It's not.
- 4:42So then why do we even get baptized?
- 4:44Well, we get baptized as a sign of telling people that we're
- 4:47followers of Jesus, so. Then why did Jesus get baptized?
- 4:51He didn't have any sin. That's a great question.
- 4:55He got baptized in obedience to God's Word.
- 4:58Jesus came to John the Baptist to be baptized and John said he
- 5:02couldn't do it. He said he wasn't worthy to
- 5:04baptize Jesus, but Jesus told him just do it.
- 5:09And that's where we get the slogan from Nike.
- 5:11Just do it. Wrong.
- 5:14When Jesus came out of the water, the skies opened up and
- 5:16the Holy Spirit descended from heaven that came upon Jesus.
- 5:20Then the voice from heaven was heard, and it said.
- 5:22Oh, oh, it said. We come in peace.
- 5:26Take me to your leader. It was aliens.
- 5:30No, there's no such thing as aliens.
- 5:34The voice from heaven was God, and he said, This is my beloved
- 5:38Son, in whom I am well pleased. Whoa, that's so awesome.
- 5:45John the Baptist was a hero because he prepared the way for
- 5:48Jesus. He told people to turn from
- 5:50their sins and to repent. Then when Jesus came, he got to
- 5:54baptize Jesus. John the Baptist.
- 5:57Now that guy was a hero. Hey guys.
- 6:05I'm Josiah. And I'm Judah, welcome to our
- 6:08Hero series, where we tell you about an awesome hero in the
- 6:11Bible. The hero that we're going to
- 6:13learn about is someone who encourages others and helps pull
- 6:16loads on train tracks. Please give it up for Thomas the
- 6:20Train. No.
- 6:22No, what you said it was Thomas. So that's who I thought you were
- 6:26talking about. Thomas, the train is not in the
- 6:28Bible and there were no trains back in the Bible days.
- 6:32Let me handle this. This week we're going to learn
- 6:35about a guy who was one of Jesus disciples.
- 6:38His name was Thomas. Yes, that Thomas.
- 6:41Wait, what? Thomas.
- 6:44No, no, no, no, that guy, he isn't a hero.
- 6:47Now, when people think of Thomas, they think about the
- 6:49time when the other disciples told him that Jesus was raised
- 6:52from the dead. And Thomas was like, no way.
- 6:55I'm not going to believe it until I could touch Jesus's
- 6:57scars. And then Jesus appeared to
- 7:00Thomas and he was like bam check out my scars go ahead touch him.
- 7:04And Thomas was like Oh my gosh I believe.
- 7:08And then he touched Jesus scars and he put his fingers in the
- 7:10holes in Jesus hands and then. Hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 7:15Yeah, that is true about Thomas, but that's not actually what
- 7:18we're going to talk about. It's not.
- 7:20Nope, we're going to talk about how Thomas became a hero because
- 7:24he was really brave. What, you mean that movie with
- 7:28the girl who had the big huge curly red hair and it's really
- 7:31good with a bow and arrow like Robin Hood and then she turns
- 7:34into a bear and then her brothers become bears too and
- 7:36then they have to? Are you serious right now?
- 7:39When I say brave, I'm not talking about that movie.
- 7:42You see, the brave that I'm talking about is when someone
- 7:45has the courage to do something. And in this case, Thomas was
- 7:49brave because he had the courage to do what was right.
- 7:52Whoa, I didn't know that. OK man, get on with the story.
- 7:57OK so one day Jesus got bad news that one of his really good
- 8:02friends, Lazarus, has gotten really sick and died.
- 8:06When Jesus heard this, he said, this sickness is not unto death,
- 8:12but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified
- 8:16through it. Dude, can you please speak
- 8:19English? OK, So what Jesus meant by that
- 8:22was that he was going to bring Lazarus back to life.
- 8:26And when that would happen for everyone who saw it would see
- 8:29that God loves people and wants to do good things for them, then
- 8:33people will praise God for being so good.
- 8:36Oh. All right, well, get on with the
- 8:38story and I want to know what happens.
- 8:41OK, so when Jesus heard this news, he told the disciples,
- 8:45let's go to Judea again so that he could pray for Lazarus.
- 8:49Well, the disciples didn't like this idea and they said, Jesus,
- 8:53are you serious? The Jews want to stone you and
- 8:57kill you, Are you sure you want to go there again?
- 9:02And Jesus replied to them and said, our friend Lazarus sleeps,
- 9:06but I go that I may wake him up. Whoa.
- 9:09OK, so Lazarus has just really taken a super duper long nap.
- 9:13Right. No, Lazarus is dead.
- 9:17In fact, even the disciples were really confused because when
- 9:21Jesus said that he was going to wake Lazarus up, the disciples
- 9:24told Jesus, Lord, if he's asleep then he will just get a good
- 9:30night's rest and wake up feeling fine.
- 9:32After they said that, Jesus told them that Lazarus wasn't asleep
- 9:36but he was dead. And then Jesus said, come, let's
- 9:40go to him. You see, the disciples didn't
- 9:42want to go to Judea because they knew that the Jews there wanted
- 9:45to kill Jesus. And if they kill Jesus, then
- 9:48they probably want to kill all of them too.
- 9:51But not Thomas. You see, Thomas wasn't scared.
- 9:55In fact, he told all the disciples that they should go
- 9:57together, that they may die with Jesus.
- 10:00No way. So while everyone was scared to
- 10:04go and trying to talk Jesus out of going to Judea to pray for
- 10:08Lazarus, Thomas was really brave.
- 10:11He wanted to go with Jesus and didn't care if he died.
- 10:15Well, that's actually a really good thing to remember Thomas by
- 10:18Thomas. And he was really brave.
- 10:25Hey guys. I'm Josiah.
- 10:26And I'm Judah, welcome to our Hero series, where we tell you
- 10:30about an awesome hero in the Bible.
- 10:32The hero that we're going to learn about was the youngest of
- 10:35Jesus's disciples. That's right, our hero really
- 10:39loved Jesus, and Jesus really loved him.
- 10:42Our hero this week is John. You got it right.
- 10:47Yeah, I know. No, like on the first try.
- 10:50Yeah, and I'm proud. Of you.
- 10:53You've never done that before. Why don't you tell us what you
- 10:56know about John? Well, we already talked about
- 10:58him, John the Baptist. No, no, no, same name but a
- 11:03different guy. John was one of Jesus disciples
- 11:07and John followed Jesus everywhere he went.
- 11:10When Jesus was crucified, all the disciples ran away, but not
- 11:14John. He stayed with Jesus's mom, and
- 11:17Jesus even told John to take care of his mom as if she was
- 11:20his own. Wow, John, now that guy was a
- 11:25hero. Wait, wait, wait.
- 11:29No, hold on, that's not the end. You see, John understood how
- 11:32much God loves us and he kept serving God with all his heart.
- 11:36He would tell people about Jesus and how Jesus came to give him a
- 11:40good life. Sometimes people didn't want to
- 11:42hear what he had to say, so you want to know what they did to
- 11:45him. Did they tie him up on a string
- 11:48and hit him like a pinata? Nope.
- 11:50Tickle him until he peed his pants.
- 11:52Wrong again. Some people believe they put him
- 11:55in a pot of boiling oil. Oh man, if they did that to me
- 12:00I'd be so scared that the instant I landed in the oil they
- 12:03would call me fried chicken. John wasn't even hurt from that.
- 12:07You see, God had a big plan for his life and John knew that.
- 12:11Another time they sentenced him to a prison island so he
- 12:14couldn't tell people about Jesus and eventually he would die.
- 12:18But John was too smart, and he tied turtle shells together and
- 12:21rode them back to Rome, right? No, that was Captain Jack
- 12:24Sparrow. You know, from Pirates of the
- 12:26Caribbean. Anyways, on that island is where
- 12:30he wrote the Book of Revelations.
- 12:32Eventually John was released from prison and he kept living
- 12:35for Jesus. Eventually he just died of old
- 12:38age. Whoa.
- 12:40So John is a hero because he knew how much God loved him, and
- 12:44that made him confident in everything he did.
- 12:46He wasn't afraid to get boiled or to be put in prison because
- 12:49he knew that God would take care of him.
- 12:52John, now that guy was a hero. Hey guys.
- 13:00I'm Josiah. And I'm Judah, welcome to our
- 13:03Hero series, where we tell you about an awesome hero in the
- 13:06Bible. The hero that we're going to
- 13:08learn about was someone who broke the law to do what was
- 13:10right. That's right, he followed what
- 13:14Jesus commanded him to do, even if it meant he would get thrown
- 13:17in jail. Our hero this week is Peter.
- 13:22Hey Judah, I know I usually get these Bible stories wrong, but
- 13:26I'm actually an expert on the story.
- 13:27I read it all the time. Do you mind if I tell it?
- 13:31Yeah, yeah, that's fine. I'm a little thirsty anyway, so
- 13:35go ahead and I'll just go get some water.
- 13:38All right, Once Upon a time there was this boy and his name
- 13:41was Peter, but everyone called him Peter Pan and he liked to
- 13:43wear really tight leggings and he wore a man dress and have
- 13:46leaves all over him. He lived with a bunch of boys
- 13:48who never had to take showers, and I think that's actually
- 13:51really cool. Then there was this evil pirate
- 13:53named Captain Hook, and he didn't have a hand because a
- 13:55crocodile ate it. And so instead of a hand, he had
- 13:58a hook. Which would explain why he's
- 13:59called Captain Hook. Hello.
- 14:02Well, Long story short, Peter Pan wins, Captain Hook loses the
- 14:06end. Wow, done already.
- 14:11Yep. Like I said, I'm a pro at the
- 14:13story. Well, OK then.
- 14:15So what made Peter a hero? Well, now that I think about it,
- 14:19I wouldn't say Peter was a hero. I would actually say the Lost
- 14:22Boys were, because they didn't have to take showers.
- 14:24What? Wait, wait, wait.
- 14:26Did you tell them the story of Peter Pan?
- 14:28Well, a shorter version of it, but yeah.
- 14:31No, no, not that. Peter, the one from the Bible,
- 14:36the follower of Jesus. You know the guy who walked on
- 14:39water? The one who denied him?
- 14:43He's a hero. Yeah, but that's not why he's a
- 14:47hero. Peter and the apostles were out
- 14:50telling people about Jesus and praying for the sick when the
- 14:53church leaders told them to stop.
- 14:54Wait. The church leaders told them to
- 14:57stop talking about Jesus. Yeah, because back then the
- 15:02church leaders didn't believe that Jesus was the Son of God.
- 15:05But Peter and the apostles, they didn't listen, and they kept
- 15:08telling everyone about Jesus, and people kept getting healed.
- 15:12So the church leaders had Peter and the apostles thrown into
- 15:15prison. But that night an Angel came and
- 15:18opened the prison doors and told him to keep talking about Jesus.
- 15:22Whoa. The very next day, Peter and the
- 15:24apostles went right back talking about Jesus and praying for the
- 15:27sick right in the middle of the church temple.
- 15:30Wait, the same place where they got caught?
- 15:33Oh, I bet the church leaders were surprised.
- 15:36They were surprised. In fact, the prison guards were
- 15:39still guarding their cells and didn't even know Peter and the
- 15:42apostles had escaped. So they arrested them again and
- 15:45asked them why they were still talking about Jesus.
- 15:48Oh. Man, I would much rather obey
- 15:50God than those church leaders. That's exactly what Peter said.
- 15:55It's better to obey God rather than man.
- 15:58Wow, so Peter was thrown into prison, then God sent an Angel
- 16:01to let them out and he went back to the same spot where he had
- 16:04gotten arrested and started talking about Jesus even more.
- 16:08That's right, he knew God would take care of him and protect
- 16:11him. Peter, now that guy was a hero.
- 16:20Hey guys. I'm Josiah.
- 16:22And I'm Judah, welcome to our Hero series, where we tell you
- 16:25about an awesome hero in the Bible.
- 16:27The hero that we're going to learn about was a captain in the
- 16:30Italian army. That's right, he loved God and
- 16:33treated people with kindness and respect.
- 16:36Our hero this week is the Barbarian King.
- 16:41Really. The barbarian king.
- 16:44Yeah, he, well, he OK. I'm just going to be honest.
- 16:49I've been saying the wrong hero just to be funny.
- 16:52I'll do it right this time. Our hero this week is Cornelius.
- 16:58That's right. Tell us what you know about
- 17:00Cornelius. Cornelius was a captain in the
- 17:03Italian army and he loved God. He was kind and generous and he
- 17:07loved to pray. Well one day he was praying and
- 17:10bam, an Angel, the Lord appeared to him and told him to send for
- 17:13Peter, you know Jesus disciple. And so Cornelius sent 2 servants
- 17:18and a soldier to go find Peter. You want to guess how they found
- 17:21him? The Angel told Cornelius where
- 17:23Peter was. Duh.
- 17:26Oh, come on, Judah. You're supposed to say things
- 17:28like they went to Peter's Facebook account to see where he
- 17:31last checked in. And then I would say wrong.
- 17:34And then you would say, oh, oh, oh, maybe, maybe he could turn
- 17:37on the Find My iPhone app and see where he's at.
- 17:39And then I would say wrong again.
- 17:41And then that funny sound would come on like this.
- 17:44But you got it right on the first try, so good job.
- 17:48While the messengers were on their way to find Peter, Peter
- 17:51was on the rooftop praying to God and while he was praying God
- 17:55gave him a dream. In the stream, the Sky's opened
- 17:57up and a blanket was lowered to the ground, and the blanket was
- 18:01every kind of bird, reptile and animal you could think of.
- 18:05Then a voice from heaven said. Eat more chicken.
- 18:09No, it said go to it, Peter kill and eat and Peter said no
- 18:16because those were unclean animals.
- 18:18Then the voice of heaven said if God says it's OK, it's OK.
- 18:23This happened three times, and then there was a knock on the
- 18:26door. Those messengers were there to
- 18:29get Peter, so Peter went with them to Cornelius's house.
- 18:34When they got to Cornelius's house, Peter noticed that he was
- 18:37the only Jew there. What does that even mean?
- 18:40Well, the Jews didn't hang out with people who weren't Jews.
- 18:43Peter remembered his vision from God and realized if God says
- 18:46it's OK, it's OK. So you want to know what Peter
- 18:49did? He put those people on a blanket
- 18:53and ate them. What?
- 18:55No. Well, you you said that he
- 18:57remembered his vision from God. What I meant by that was God is
- 19:02for everyone, not just a certain type of people.
- 19:05That's what his vision meant. Oh, OK, well, what happened
- 19:10next? Peter told them all about Jesus
- 19:13and they all believed him. We're saved, filled with the
- 19:16Holy Spirit, and baptized in water.
- 19:18So Cornelius is a hero because he loved God.
- 19:22When an Angel appeared to him, he did exactly what it told him
- 19:24and sent for Peter. Then when Peter came, everyone
- 19:28that was in Cornelius house was saved, filled with the Holy
- 19:31Spirit and baptized in water. Cornelius, now that guy was a
- 19:36hero.
