- 0:10Some old friends. Facing our fears, laughing
- 0:12through the chaos and drinking some beers.
- 0:15So here's to the laughs, the crumbs and the cheers.
- 0:17All the awkward moments. And we're still here.
- 0:20Because in the end, we're just doing our thing.
- 0:22It's our crazy life. 01 more thing.
- 0:25One more thing. Welcome to Oh and one more
- 0:33thing, a podcast where 2 long time friends try to figure out
- 0:36what the heck is going on with this crazy thing called middle
- 0:39age. It's a mix of stories of how we
- 0:40navigate our lives and maybe some questionable advice.
- 0:43Some days we're wise, other days we're just trying to remember
- 0:46where the heck we left our phone.
- 0:47So join us as we laugh, groan, and maybe even learn a little
- 0:50something about surviving in the second-half of life.
- 0:53Oh, and one more thing. Hello, I'm Brian, welcome to.
- 1:07Oh, and one more thing. Hi, I'm Rob.
- 1:09Hey, how goes it today, buddy? Oh, it's great.
- 1:12What's what's new with you? Oh, everything's new.
- 1:14Every Every day is a new day, Rob.
- 1:16Yes, it is. The sun comes up, I wake up
- 1:20bright and shiny and ready to tackle the day and walk to my
- 1:24office 10 feet away and sit down.
- 1:26Or what? Kind of BSU selling today that's
- 1:30so not you. Remember back in the Technology
- 1:34Surviving Technology podcast, Uh huh, we talked about the Aura
- 1:37Ring. I I do.
- 1:38Remember that? Yes.
- 1:39So I looked it up a little bit. OK, so it's kind of expensive,
- 1:43and I seriously doubt I'm gonna get it.
- 1:45So a while back, my family and I, we were at the Minneapolis
- 1:50Farmers Market. There you go.
- 1:53And instead of the aura ring, I brought a mood ring I'll get.
- 1:58Out. And I'm wearing it right now.
- 2:00What does it mean when it's purple?
- 2:02Well, you want to know the meaning of the colors.
- 2:05Do you do you have that? So the mood ring doesn't
- 2:08actually work with sensing emotions, you know that, OK.
- 2:12Come on. When I was a kid I always
- 2:13thought it was real. Right?
- 2:15But they do change color based on temperature, not your mood.
- 2:18OK, yeah, yeah. All right.
- 2:20So it has no idea what mood you're in.
- 2:23Oh well, they correlate the moods with temperatures, so if
- 2:27you are happy you tend to be a warmer person, that sort of
- 2:30thing. Yep, and that's what happens.
- 2:33OK, So what colour is it now? What does it mean?
- 2:35Right now it's Violet. Yeah, purple.
- 2:39Yeah. Oh, guess what?
- 2:40It's it means I don't know. Very happy love, passionate
- 2:44romance. Oh, OK, I'm gonna.
- 2:46I am so romantic. I'm.
- 2:47Gonna pause the other romance part right now, but I get the
- 2:50happy part 'cause we're we're doing our podcast.
- 2:52Right, I'm always happy. Right, I like it.
- 2:55But I've only seen purple, blue and green.
- 2:56Sure, sure. So compared to the price of the
- 2:59Aura Ring, I'm guessing there's a little little bit of a gap.
- 3:02Yeah, like hundreds of dollars. I paid $10.00 for this.
- 3:05There you go, you. Get what you're paying for,
- 3:06buddy. And it was fun.
- 3:08Oh, that's good. Hey, did you know that I
- 3:11previously worked as a security guard?
- 3:12No. Yeah, my boss told me that as a
- 3:15security guard, it was my job to watch The Office.
- 3:18Yeah, I'm on season 6, but I'm not really sure what it's got to
- 3:20do with security. Yeah, that's kind of lame.
- 3:25That's kind of lame. But it was funny.
- 3:26It was. Funny, yeah.
- 3:28So I thought we would talk about, you know, what it's like
- 3:31to be in in middle age. So I googled, googled a day in
- 3:35the life of the middle-aged man you did.
- 3:37And what I got was kind of funny and frankly really generic.
- 3:41Well, so do you want to talk about it?
- 3:42Well, yeah, we should absolutely talk about, but it was this more
- 3:45just you, just a generic middle-aged man, or do you just
- 3:47specify like us? Well, I don't know how to
- 3:50specify us, so sadly it's just a generic middle-aged man.
- 3:54Let's go with it. OK, So to give my my Google
- 3:57Voice will be a little bit different than my voice, OK?
- 4:00I'm with you. Typical day in the middle-aged
- 4:02man might involve waking up, commuting to work, spending a
- 4:06day at his profession, returning home, possibly engaging in
- 4:09hobbies and family time, and then winding down for the
- 4:12evening. OK First off this Google Voice
- 4:14is very schmarmy so that scares. Me isn't Google schmarmy to
- 4:17begin? With it is a little schmarmy,
- 4:19but is this this isn't this isn't like almost every person
- 4:21in the world, I mean. Right.
- 4:23It's it's so lame. Yeah, OK.
- 4:26It cannot be more generic. Then it goes on to say he wakes
- 4:28up likely around 6:30 or 7:00 AM and gets ready for the day.
- 4:32OK first of all, not how? How does Google know when I get
- 4:35up? It doesn't.
- 4:35I get up at 5:45 5/25 every day. It has no idea.
- 4:39It has no idea, but however Alexa is listening, they are,
- 4:42and maybe they're figuring it out.
- 4:44Yeah, I'll go back to our technology podcast, Embrace the
- 4:46Cloud, Brian. Embrace.
- 4:48Embrace somebody, something. I mean, I meant to say something
- 4:51something. He might have coffee and
- 4:54breakfast, perhaps a quick bowl of oatmeal.
- 4:57Gross oatmeal I hate. Oatmeal.
- 4:59Well, I don't mind it. My wife loves it.
- 5:01But I hate it. It's so mushy.
- 5:03It's slimy. And guess what I also heard,
- 5:05because I believe everything that I hear is that you're not
- 5:09supposed to eat oats. Why?
- 5:10It's actually meant to fatten up horses.
- 5:13Oh, so I don't want to eat it. So because I have enough rolls,
- 5:17Yes, I have spring rolls. See if if if you're if you're
- 5:21trying to watch it eat oatmeal would not be the it's the
- 5:24problem oatmeal is I have to put a ton of cinnamon and sugar on
- 5:26it anyway. Right.
- 5:27So that we are defeating whatever health benefit it might
- 5:29come from so. Tell me I'm already doubling up
- 5:31on the tripling up option is. Don't eat.
- 5:33Don't eat oatmeal. Yeah.
- 5:34But coffee? I would.
- 5:37Yeah. All day long.
- 5:38Coffee. Good.
- 5:39Yeah. Then he heads out the door,
- 5:41either driving or taking public transit to his workplace in a
- 5:44nearby town or city. Yeah, Google has no idea who I.
- 5:47Am has no idea. No, I mean, this is so, yeah.
- 5:50Lame. Yeah, because you don't go
- 5:52anywhere and and I have to drive 40.
- 5:53Minutes, right? You'd think.
- 5:55Yeah, one would think that Google, by this time might know
- 5:58I work at home. What?
- 5:59You think right? Yeah.
- 6:00Right. I mean, I talk about on the
- 6:02podcast and, you know, they're copying what was.
- 6:03Absolutely. And it has to know your location
- 6:05like you never leave your house, right?
- 6:07It has to know. I know like life through 60, the
- 6:09app I have on my phone knows that I never leave the house,
- 6:12just. Recording this podcast is the
- 6:14one time a week you get out of the house.
- 6:15Hey, I go out for coffee. That is your three times a week
- 6:18you get out. Times a week and then one time
- 6:20here so I get out three times a. Week and although within 2 miles
- 6:23of your house. OK, but the construction in
- 6:25town, right? I had to freaking drive all the
- 6:28way around town just to get to your house.
- 6:30Did you try coming down on the County Road that's closed right
- 6:32now? No, no, no.
- 6:33I knew it was closed so. Seriously, though, so, you know,
- 6:35we have, we have a boat. Yeah.
- 6:36Talk about later. You know, we talked about
- 6:38before, We'll talk about it again.
- 6:39But it's 2 minutes from our house.
- 6:42But the road to get to it is now closed 'cause they're building a
- 6:44roundabout. It's gonna take me 20 minutes to
- 6:46go, 2 minutes to get my boat. Yeah, that's not right.
- 6:48I literally have to drive. Two towns over, go around the
- 6:50detour because the little dirt Rd. cut off that I was gonna
- 6:53take. Yeah.
- 6:53What happened with that? They closed it.
- 6:55No, yes, 'cause. My wife drove past it yesterday
- 6:59because she missed her turn and she's like, ah, darn it, I'm on
- 7:02the detour. So she went that way and it's
- 7:04like, Oh yeah, they put like actual cement barriers up so you
- 7:06and not take the. Detour.
- 7:07Oh, so you can't even try? It it's not just a sign that
- 7:10says won't close this. No, they put cement barriers on
- 7:12that sucker. Close.
- 7:13You're in trouble now and. Clearly I wasn't the only one
- 7:16with that idea. All right, What else does Google
- 7:19have? Well, it says after work he
- 7:21might commute back home or perhaps stay in the city for
- 7:24meetings and errands. Are you kidding?
- 7:27Oh my gosh, kill me now. Especially that voice.
- 7:30Oh my gosh, Google. I isn't that a great voice?
- 7:33That's my Google Voice, everybody.
- 7:35OK, so so that topic really that sucked, dude.
- 7:38Now what are we going to talk about?
- 7:39I well, I yes, something else is I can't take it anymore.
- 7:42So how do we make middle life more fun?
- 7:45I don't know. I think we should.
- 7:46That should be our topic for today.
- 7:47That's a good. Idea And instead of a bucket
- 7:49list, I think we should make a living list.
- 7:51Oh yeah, 'cause it focuses on the present and mean present.
- 7:54Oh, I like that. Something you probably need to
- 7:55do a lot better at. I think all of us do.
- 7:57So we need to embrace our new experiences.
- 7:59So what's your, I mean, bucket, What's, what's your living list,
- 8:02Brian? Hey, this is Rob.
- 8:09I wanted to take a moment to talk about spring and green.
- 8:12I've been using them since 2007. They provide fertilizer, weed
- 8:15control, lawn insect control and core aeration services for my
- 8:18lawn. They also spray for mosquitoes,
- 8:20which is huge in Minnesota and new later this year.
- 8:24Liquid aerations and home pest control.
- 8:26They're a locally owned and operated company, super easy to
- 8:29get a hold of and work with. They'll give you the intention
- 8:31and service that you deserve. This is their website at
- 8:34springdashgreen.com. For a price quote specific to
- 8:36your property and a sign up for service.
- 8:38You can even register for autopay or prepaid to save a
- 8:40little bit of cash right there on the website or shoot them a
- 8:43message with any questions. That's spring dashgreen.com.
- 8:46Springdashgreen.com. OK, we're back.
- 8:57That was a little mention from our sponsor, Spring Green and we
- 9:01want to talk about a living list.
- 9:03So I I know you asked me about mine, but I I'll get into that,
- 9:06but I want to hear about yours first.
- 9:08Yeah, I don't really have a list per se.
- 9:10Some things that I'd like to do like especially right now, I'd
- 9:12like to spend more time with with family, with the kids and
- 9:16the grandkid. Yeah, you got the grandkids, so
- 9:17that's fun. Grandkid solo, but I'm sure
- 9:19there's more in the way. But the kids, both, we have 4
- 9:22kids between the two of us and two of them are much older.
- 9:25Obviously we have grandkids and then two are younger and younger
- 9:27ones are looking for the first apartment on their own.
- 9:29So that's very exciting. Yeah.
- 9:31So that was that going. Good.
- 9:33They're still in the research phase, so putting applications
- 9:36in a couple places, but they're still working on that.
- 9:38So OK, but like spend more time with them as they it's not kind
- 9:40of get out of the house. Love my kids.
- 9:42Get the heck out of the house. It's time.
- 9:43You're old enough. Go away.
- 9:44We'll come back and visit once in a while.
- 9:47Yeah, see that you're pushing them out and now you're like,
- 9:49hey, come back, come back. Let's let's do dinner sometime.
- 9:52I'll make you dinner, Yeah. And then there is and we are at
- 9:56that age where there is a little bit of retirement on the
- 9:57horizon. Yeah, retirement.
- 9:59I'm looking for a little closer than you are to retirement.
- 10:02That is true. That's true.
- 10:03I have a few more years, in fact, this last week at work.
- 10:06So I, you know, I am on a lawn care company, Spring Green.
- 10:10You do, I do. And it's a, It's a.
- 10:12Franchise, how did I not know that?
- 10:14You didn't You ran a spring green company.
- 10:16It hasn't been obvious. Has nothing to do with who our
- 10:19sponsor is. Not at all.
- 10:21And so every 10 years we have to renew our franchise agreement.
- 10:25And this week I signed the letter of intent to renew my
- 10:28franchise agreement. So it's official.
- 10:30All right, 10 more years, but after that, that's probably
- 10:34going to be it. So yeah, I don't have the
- 10:36applause thing potted up. I can't applause.
- 10:38I'd apply. Oh, here it is here.
- 10:40There, OK. I had to find it.
- 10:41There you go. It's hard when you produce and
- 10:43talk at the same time. Well, it's hard for me to talk.
- 10:46So, yeah, so and we did that. So that's very exciting.
- 10:49And then the question at that point becomes how do you stay
- 10:52busy in retirement? Oh, there's plenty of things to
- 10:56do. Well, that scares me a little
- 10:57bit because. My my kids say I'm going to wear
- 11:00a hole in the floor from pacing back and forth.
- 11:03What I'm saying? Because I do it now where if
- 11:06something on TV that I want to watch, whatever my, you know, my
- 11:08mind's going racing, whatever it is, I will just walk from one of
- 11:11the house and back and forth. And this happens regularly and.
- 11:14This is when you have a job. And I have a job, yeah.
- 11:16What's going to happen when you don't have a job?
- 11:18There'll be a groove in the floor.
- 11:19Yeah, I think we might have to go from a weekly to a daily
- 11:22podcast. OK, well wait for that, because
- 11:25it takes me a long time to write this stuff.
- 11:27True, true. But you got a few years to get
- 11:30better at it, so I'm just years. I'm just setting.
- 11:32Negotiation now, people. He's jotting me down for years
- 11:36to come. I'm booked.
- 11:38You're right. Got you on the calendar.
- 11:41All right, so left to me. What?
- 11:42What else? Well, I got some ideas that we I
- 11:45thought we could talk about here because there's lots of crazy
- 11:48things that I think would be really fun.
- 11:50OK, Have you ever gone whitewater rafting?
- 11:52I. Have not.
- 11:53So that was always on my but living list that I wanted to do
- 11:58it right. But I was younger when I made
- 12:00that list. Yeah.
- 12:00Yeah. And now I'm not so sure because
- 12:04they tip over and then you're in the water and I'm nervous.
- 12:07And there's like rocks and things.
- 12:08And there's a you wear a helmet. Yeah, well.
- 12:12Right, can't feel my arm but. Yeah, it's still broke.
- 12:16I broke some bones. Right.
- 12:18Yeah, but I haven't. Done it.
- 12:19Yeah. I've watched it on TV.
- 12:20It looks spent like it looks like a great time.
- 12:21Yeah. I I gotta try a smaller river
- 12:24first? Yeah, or a bigger boat or.
- 12:26No, I don't. Well, I don't know.
- 12:27Isn't it what the the kind that have like 8 to 10 people in it?
- 12:31Sure. Would a tubing down the upper
- 12:33river be considered white water rafting?
- 12:34I think that's a little slow. That's a lot more drinking
- 12:38involved. Yeah, so and I don't want to be
- 12:39in that. Water.
- 12:40No, no, there's that back, back in my eye.
- 12:43So I grew up going to YMCA camps all the time.
- 12:46And one of our camps is in Wisconsin.
- 12:49Yeah. And the lake is at the start of
- 12:52the Apple River. OK, so one where that is so.
- 12:55One year we our little, our little cabin, we decided to take
- 12:57a two day trip and we canoed all the way down the Apple River,
- 13:00which winds up in the Saint Corey and you end up in
- 13:02Stillwater. Yeah.
- 13:03So for two days we we canoed for half the day and then camp
- 13:07overnight somewhere and then canoed to, to Stillwater.
- 13:09But we go through the Apple River and those that don't know
- 13:12what the Apple River is, I mentioned earlier it's tubing
- 13:14and lots of drinking. We had a canoe through all these
- 13:16people. While they're floating down
- 13:18while. They're literally throwing like
- 13:19food in, like like popping beer cans at us.
- 13:21Ever canoeing through the Apple River.
- 13:23How? Old are you at this?
- 13:25Time. I was probably 14.
- 13:26Nice. Yeah.
- 13:28So I learned to canoe and 'cause I went to camp.
- 13:32OK, Boy Scout camp. It was a Boy Scout.
- 13:37So I learned to canoe and he had to learn all the different
- 13:39paddle strokes and how to tip your canoe and then get back in
- 13:43it in the water, all that sort of thing.
- 13:44So, you know, life skills. Yeah.
- 13:47Yeah. Also learned how to sail.
- 13:49You did. Do you know how to sail?
- 13:50I so again the camp I've sailed, but like actually like learn
- 13:56like like the terms and how to. I can't remember all the terms
- 14:00I. Mean I I can get a boat, I can
- 14:02put the thing up and find the wind.
- 14:04The thing? That's the extent the sail.
- 14:06The sail up. I have a sailboat, a very small
- 14:09one person sailboat, OK. And so I sail when I go to the
- 14:12cabin and I love it. And I learned it from being a
- 14:16Boy Scout. Well.
- 14:16There you go. Did you ever watch, you know,
- 14:19these reality competition shows like Amazing Race or The
- 14:21Challenge and they have to do any sort of paddling in the
- 14:24water and and they're just like. And they can't.
- 14:27They're just perplexed. Like these go in circles or they
- 14:29just they can't figure it out. So these are people that didn't
- 14:32go to camp, right? It just.
- 14:33Boggles me and again, I know I've had the experience, I've
- 14:36been trained that know how to do it, but right it's it's not that
- 14:40hard to figure out if you paddle.
- 14:41Paddle in the water in front of you, push it to your back.
- 14:43Yeah. And then to go left to right, if
- 14:46you if you push harder on the left, the boat's going to go to
- 14:48the right. Right, exactly something unless
- 14:50you do the J hook. Or do the J hook anything right
- 14:52then it's a whole new thing. But I just like and it's also
- 14:55the same people who get in a car at like an amazing race.
- 14:57They have to drive and they get a.
- 14:58They get a manual. And they don't have drive.
- 15:00They have no well, OK, that does take a little bit of extra
- 15:02practice. It's drive a manual stick shift.
- 15:05It does. And that was actually the first
- 15:07car I had. Mm hmm.
- 15:08So I learned to drive a stick in downtown Saint Cloud on a hill.
- 15:13Nice. That's where you really learn to
- 15:15figure out your pedals and and not let it kill.
- 15:17Yeah, my dad threw me in the car and said go figure it out.
- 15:20I mean, it was in our neighborhood.
- 15:21I wasn't driving on, yeah, streets like that.
- 15:22But he said go figure it out. So I like driving a stick.
- 15:25They're fun. Yeah, me too.
- 15:26I And that's our generation, you know, the middle-aged.
- 15:29Gen. X people and X people.
- 15:31We learned those things because we right didn't have a choice,
- 15:34but we learned those things. Life skills.
- 15:36I read a post today on Facebook and it was asking a question do
- 15:41people back in the olden days it said Gen.
- 15:45X has really let their kids just roam free?
- 15:48Yes. To answer your your Facebook
- 15:51post, yes. All the all.
- 15:54Day long, yeah. All the time, yeah.
- 15:56Just go get lost, yeah? And it's funny, we were talking
- 15:59at coffee this week with our buddy Jeff Hoxie.
- 16:01He was on last week. Jeff, Hi Jeff.
- 16:03Hi Jeff. Hey, where's your hammer, Jeff?
- 16:05And, and we were we were talking about his, his kid, his his son
- 16:09was out playing and he's actually at Brian's neighbor's
- 16:11house right next to you. And Jeff was hey, he was like, I
- 16:15just, I didn't know where he was.
- 16:16He just kind of just came home whenever.
- 16:17And we're both like, you let your kid do that.
- 16:19But as soon as we said that, I'm like, well, we did that.
- 16:22It is all time. That's normal, right?
- 16:24Yeah, so the neighbor boys had a lot of boys over, and there were
- 16:28balls being lobbed in our yard all night long and kids running
- 16:31in to get them. Yeah, that's fine.
- 16:32Yeah, absolutely. It is.
- 16:33Absolutely. They're fun.
- 16:35What else you got? So back to the sailing.
- 16:37You know, what I really want to get is a catamaran.
- 16:39You know, I'd like to go a little bit bigger than what I've
- 16:42got and get a catamaran because they they're just handled a
- 16:45little nicer, you know, that would be more fun.
- 16:47That's probably my next level. Do you need more wind in a
- 16:50bigger lake for that? Well, actually, it's weird.
- 16:53I don't. You don't need a bigger lake.
- 16:54Our lake's big enough. And the wind.
- 16:57My neighbor at the lake has a catamaran.
- 17:00OK. So it can be very, very light.
- 17:04Extremely light winds and they're out there sailing
- 17:06because the sail's bigger, right?
- 17:09And it's lighter than my sailboat, right?
- 17:10So it glides nicer. It's just like I'm.
- 17:13I'm amazed. Is my problem when I think
- 17:16catamaran now when we went to Mexico last?
- 17:18Year No. We we went on an excursion for
- 17:22the day. We were on a catamaran.
- 17:23They held like 30 people and had a bar and had a bathroom and had
- 17:26different levels. It's.
- 17:26Not that catamaran. OK, see, that's what I think.
- 17:28What I think Catamaran we know. Bring bring your expectations
- 17:32way down, please big enough though the the the two of us and
- 17:37four with our wives can go on it.
- 17:39That's what I. OK, that makes much more sense.
- 17:41Yeah, alright. How about extreme hiking?
- 17:43Would you ever do something like that?
- 17:44Define extreme. Well, OK, so they have these
- 17:48extreme hikes you can go on and they really do go up elevations
- 17:52and mountains and stuff, but I don't want to do that.
- 17:54Yeah, that sounds like work. But because that, you know,
- 17:56yeah, Trip, fall, die. Yeah.
- 17:58But I have climbed Harney Peak in South Dakota, so it's the
- 18:02tallest. I think it's the tallest peak in
- 18:04South Dakota. OK.
- 18:05And then when you get to the top, there's actually a Ranger
- 18:08station of the top. It's amazing.
- 18:10That's cool. But it is quite the hike.
- 18:12Yeah. We and we go visit my mom in
- 18:14Arizona and we hike up a Butte. Butte is not Butte, Mt.
- 18:18No no, that's Arizona a Butte. Ohh, a Butte.
- 18:21It's paston Butte. What is that?
- 18:23It's like it's a Butte. OK, I don't know what it's
- 18:26talking about. It's an, it's a it's, it's
- 18:28smaller than a mountain and larger than a hill.
- 18:30Ohh, that's called a Butte. It's a Butte.
- 18:32I didn't know that. It's a Butte, yes.
- 18:35That's as much as I'm doing. OK, Something I'd like to do and
- 18:38I've partially committed to doing this year is skydiving.
- 18:41Awesome. So I think I've talked about
- 18:43this earlier. One of my people that I work
- 18:45with, she is a skydiving instructor, yes.
- 18:48And I actually pulled her aside the other day and I said I'm
- 18:51committing to you this year. I want to do it.
- 18:53Is this for something special? No, just, I just just to do it.
- 18:56I just want to do it. I just, I've always wanted to do
- 18:58it. She's very accessible because I
- 18:59see her every day, so the perfect person to take him
- 19:03skydiving somebody is. Tammy going to do it with you,
- 19:05OK. You're funny.
- 19:07No. I have not asked her but I'm
- 19:08going to go with no. Because someone has to survive.
- 19:11Yeah, I think you should do it. Well, I've done it already.
- 19:16You have. I've skydived.
- 19:18It was my birthday present to myself when I turned 40I.
- 19:21Think I remember you talking about this now.
- 19:22OK, Yeah. It went tandem.
- 19:24OK, Yeah. And my jumper, his name was
- 19:27Jumping Joe Johnson. Of course it was.
- 19:29It was amazing, Right. And, you know, I'm on the tall
- 19:33side of life. Yeah.
- 19:35Oh, that's funny. Age and height.
- 19:39Anyway, Joe was much shorter than I was.
- 19:42And when we're walking to the plane, you, you are kind of
- 19:46strapped together as you walk together.
- 19:48And then he said, hey, when we walked to the plane, let's make
- 19:52a spectacle of ourselves. And he said.
- 19:55It's right in your wheels. You just stand up straight.
- 19:59He's on my back, so I stood up. His feet dangled and I walked to
- 20:03the plane, carrying him on my back.
- 20:06Totally see that. But then you're on the plane and
- 20:10you're sitting in, not in seats, but in on a bench in a row, and
- 20:15everyone's in front of you and they're going, right.
- 20:17So we're going up, and it kind of go up in a spiral.
- 20:20You know, adrenaline is huge right now.
- 20:22It's just really exciting, you know, And I'm afraid of heights.
- 20:24But didn't bother me one bit. Right.
- 20:26He said, you know, OK, we're getting near the jump time.
- 20:29The doors open. He said, I'm gonna tighten up
- 20:31the slack. And I thought to myself, this is
- 20:33already tight. He pulled another 10 to 12
- 20:37inches of slack between US. Oh, good Lord.
- 20:40And I was sitting. There's literally sitting on
- 20:42him. Yeah.
- 20:43And we were tight. Yeah, it was crazy.
- 20:45But we were last ones to jump off the plane, get to the door
- 20:49and he said is I'll never forget.
- 20:52This is the best line ever. Just remember no sounds like go.
- 20:59And so then we dived out. And there you go it.
- 21:02Was amazing. It was fun, Yeah.
- 21:03I I want to do that. I want to do that.
- 21:05Hopefully my heart can handle it.
- 21:06It can OK keep your mouth shut when you're going down.
- 21:09Probably good advice. How about theme parks?
- 21:13I know you love theme. Parks love theme parks.
- 21:15I've I'm huge Disney fan. I've only been to Disney World
- 21:19once and I've I've only actually been to Hollywood studios and
- 21:22the Animal Kingdom. Haven't been to the other parks,
- 21:23Epcot or the Magic Kingdom. Oh, you have have not been to
- 21:26those. Yet.
- 21:26So you mean I've been to more theme parks than you?
- 21:29I've been to Disneyland multiple times.
- 21:31California Disneyland. OK, I've been there once.
- 21:32Multiple times. My mom used to live in
- 21:34California when the kids were younger.
- 21:35Went there bunch OK and been to Universal in Hollywood a couple
- 21:39of times and then once in Florida OK, but would love to go
- 21:43back and love to spend a lot more time there.
- 21:46We gotta go to Epcot. I I would love to go to Epcot,
- 21:49yes. I've been there and with the
- 21:50kids when they're young, but yeah, I wanted to which we
- 21:52couldn't drink around the world, right?
- 21:54So you go to every country and have a drink.
- 21:57Yeah, I think we totally should make an adult Disney vacation.
- 22:00Yeah, that would be very fun. But we went to Tower of Terror
- 22:04was called at the time when we went there.
- 22:05It was in Disneyland. I think it still is because I
- 22:08was on it a couple years ago. I think it changed to Guardians
- 22:10of Galaxy. Yeah, must be recent.
- 22:13Recent. It must be recent.
- 22:14But anyway, we were on that ride and I talked.
- 22:16Everyone in the group talked my wife into going on.
- 22:18And she does not like rides. Yeah.
- 22:21And you tell you, when that first door opening you dropped,
- 22:24she was so scared. And I was.
- 22:27I didn't. No disrespect to her, but I was
- 22:29laughing the whole time. And each time that the light
- 22:32would come on as you're going to the dark, then to the light, she
- 22:35was grabbing on a different part of my body.
- 22:37And she was trying to hold on. She hated it, by the way.
- 22:42Yeah. My wife just refused to go on
- 22:44any sort of rides like that. So she's she's, she has a lot
- 22:46she likes that to do, the people watching.
- 22:48At least that's what she tells me.
- 22:49Or just 'cause I dragged her there and she has nothing else
- 22:51to do? So oh, we were there with show
- 22:54choir trip actually fun, and Jeff was with us.
- 22:57Oh yeah, had a good time. Except for we went on the Star
- 23:01Wars ride. Well, the old Star Wars are not.
- 23:04Yeah, the old one. The old.
- 23:05Yeah. And it's where you have the
- 23:06whole video thing playing into and the seats move.
- 23:08Yeah, that's horrible. Oh my gosh, Yeah.
- 23:10By the time I got out there, I was green and I almost lost it.
- 23:14Yeah, all over the place. Yeah, the new ones, The Rise of
- 23:16the Resistance and the Millennium Falcon.
- 23:18Two of the best rides you could possibly ever go on.
- 23:20We'll see about that. Phenomenal.
- 23:22Phenomenal. What about you're a gambler?
- 23:25Yeah, I gamble. I don't gamble very often.
- 23:28You don't gamble very often. But you like one of Vegas
- 23:30though, right? I like the idea of Vegas.
- 23:32Yeah, But I and I'll be all prepared.
- 23:35And I got my money and I don't mind losing it.
- 23:36I've already set it aside. We're good to go.
- 23:39I'll get up to the table. I'm going to play blackjack, and
- 23:41then I'll stand there and just watch.
- 23:44And I, it's just that fear of sitting down and putting my
- 23:49money on there. And you're so fast with that.
- 23:52Maybe it's my, you know, poor math skills, but I can't add
- 23:56that. Fast.
- 23:58So when I was there with you, it's definitely more
- 24:01comfortable, but I'm just too nervous.
- 24:03See, I think we we did it right too, because we went in as a big
- 24:05gaggle of people and we found a casino just off the strip.
- 24:10They had dollar blackjack and $5 blackjack.
- 24:12So cheaper blackjack. So it was a little bit easier to
- 24:15play that and. We went there like during the
- 24:16week when in the morning was kind of quieter, so we were able
- 24:18to take over a whole table and we were there probably good 2-3
- 24:20hours. Just us, and that's more fun.
- 24:22That is a blast. I love doing that one.
- 24:25Agree. Everybody's there.
- 24:25You're just there to have fun. You don't care.
- 24:27Somebody screws it up for the table.
- 24:28One of those people who cares? We're just there to have fun,
- 24:30right? Yeah.
- 24:31So that that's fun. What about like other games like
- 24:33you like when you go to like doing other games or slots or?
- 24:36Ohh, I like craps. I don't get craps.
- 24:38I mean, OK, it's just let me that.
- 24:40You get the crap. I don't get the game of craps in
- 24:42Vegas. I, I've played it, I've watched
- 24:46it and I still people tell me what to do and I still, I throw
- 24:49the damn dice and hopefully I get money.
- 24:50I I just I really, I don't get it.
- 24:52OK, there's a there's a very easy version of craps and then
- 24:55there's the more technical in how you bet on side bet.
- 24:58Yeah, I know. Don't try and explain it.
- 24:59We were there for an hour and a half and I'd still I played and
- 25:01I still didn't get it. So just.
- 25:02Oh well, I got it. I love it, it's so much fun.
- 25:06What about like what? No other card games though?
- 25:07You know what? Well, I was trying to do what is
- 25:10a three handed poker or something like that.
- 25:13Texas hold 'em. No.
- 25:14Well, Texas hold 'em. I'll play.
- 25:15Yeah, anytime. Right.
- 25:17If there's money involved, I'll lose.
- 25:19Yeah. If we play for no money, I'll
- 25:21win. I don't know what that is, but
- 25:24no matter when we play anything, if we gamble for money, I lose.
- 25:28OK, so. Next time we get together to
- 25:29play cards, we're definitely not playing for money.
- 25:31Because you know you'll win. I win.
- 25:33Thanks a lot. Yeah.
- 25:34What about like gambling on horses?
- 25:36OK, that's. Fun.
- 25:38That is fun. Yeah, I agree.
- 25:39We have a racetrack near us, Canterbury Downs, and I've gone
- 25:44a couple of times and I just, it's a lot of fun.
- 25:47I really enjoy it. Yeah, it is fun.
- 25:48I'd love to go to the to the Kentucky Derby though.
- 25:51You really want to go to the Kentucky Derby.
- 25:53Yeah, just to see, to be there, the nostalgia of it all.
- 25:56Sure, I see about 300,000 people and go you.
- 25:59Yeah, there's a lot of people, but look at the weird hats
- 26:02they're wearing. It's fun, yeah.
- 26:05Yeah, definitely. And don't you think about My
- 26:07Fair Lady? What's that?
- 26:09You've never seen My Fair Lady? No.
- 26:11I've never seen it. Well, it's a musical.
- 26:12Yeah, it's old. It's old Katharine Hepburn.
- 26:17OK, Yeah, yeah, yeah. And anyway, she is the poor
- 26:22peasant flower girl and the rich speech therapist doctor makes a
- 26:28bet with his buddy or whoever he is and that he can turn her into
- 26:32a lady. Oh, OK.
- 26:34And then at one point they're going to test her out in society
- 26:37and they go to the horse races. She's gorgeous.
- 26:40Right. Right, You know it's a great
- 26:42movie. Go see it.
- 26:43Sure, sounds good. Jerk, I'm in.
- 26:49How about race car test drive? Oh, that'll be fun.
- 26:53Yeah, never done it, but yeah, that would that would be fun.
- 26:55Do that so they have an extreme experience providers like at
- 26:59supercar tracks. Yeah, why is everything extreme?
- 27:01Extreme skydiving, extreme car racing, everything you're doing,
- 27:04extreme hiking, extreme water rafting.
- 27:07Why is there? 'Cause that's what we gotta do
- 27:08now. We gotta be extreme.
- 27:09You don't feel extreme. I'm extreme.
- 27:11I know. You very well.
- 27:12You don't feel like an extreme sort of guy.
- 27:13I'd like to underplay that, OK. Undersell.
- 27:17Undersell. You're still overdelive.
- 27:18You're. Doing it the wrong way.
- 27:23OK. So there is one in Vegas?
- 27:24There, Yes. Yes I have.
- 27:26I have seen ads for that. I don't know, it would be kind
- 27:28of fun. I'd like to try it.
- 27:29Never fun, but I think like with anything in Vegas, it's way
- 27:31overpriced. Well, sure, but yeah, everything
- 27:33in Vegas is. Expensive, so anything is great
- 27:35you're. Just going there to drop money.
- 27:37Except for In and Out Burger on the Strip.
- 27:39Go in and out Burger. Best place to eat and it's best
- 27:41place. And it's cheap.
- 27:44And it's so good. It's so good.
- 27:45Yeah. So Bourbon Tour in Kentucky.
- 27:48We did that once. You did that.
- 27:50No, we were. No, see, I take it back.
- 27:52No, we went to Jack Daniels. We went to Jack Daniels, yes,
- 27:55this was the last tour before the pandemic and so before they
- 28:01closed the the. They closed everything.
- 28:03Everything up? We were the last tour, yeah.
- 28:06And then bam, Pam down. Yeah, we were in Nashville and
- 28:08they closed Nashville the day we left.
- 28:10Yeah, they closed Nashville. Broadway St.
- 28:12Closed I. Just remember Sunday night going
- 28:14to dinner and they knew. We knew it was coming.
- 28:16We knew everything was getting closed, and we said, well, we're
- 28:18going to dinner on Sunday night. So we went to this really super
- 28:20popular steakhouse. We were the only ones in there.
- 28:22Yeah, the only. Nashville, it was crazy.
- 28:25Couldn't believe it. It was crazy, crazy.
- 28:27But totally want to do the bourbon tour.
- 28:30That'd be fun. Yeah.
- 28:31It it travels around to different distilleries in
- 28:33Kentucky and you taste and I mean you can do a shorter tour
- 28:37like 8 hours, then you can do a long tour like a week.
- 28:40That might be a little bit much. A lot of drinking, a lot of
- 28:44drinking bourbon is not your thing.
- 28:46It's OK, but I couldn't do a week of it.
- 28:48Yeah, we can do 8 hours of it. Lucky 8 hours yeah alright, yeah
- 28:51for. Sure, sign me up, alright.
- 28:52Golfing Are you a golfer? Not a golfer?
- 28:55Okay, are you a golfer? I'm a golfer.
- 28:58I say that knowing that I go out once a year.
- 29:00Okay, so that classified is you. As a golfer, I'm totally a
- 29:03golfer, then absolutely. Okay, good to know still so I'm
- 29:06not a golfer. So actually I got into golf.
- 29:09He goes back in again. Back in my YMCA camp days, I
- 29:12went to golf camp. For a week, another camp.
- 29:14I know went to golf camp, went to horse camp, went to computer
- 29:17camp. Wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 29:18Let's back a minute. You went to horse camp.
- 29:20Went to. Horse Camp.
- 29:21You got to learn to take care of horses.
- 29:23Camp Christmas tree? That's circle Y.
- 29:25And what did you do at horse Camp?
- 29:26You. Brushed the horses and you
- 29:28walked the horses and you fed the horses.
- 29:30You get to ride the horses. To learn how to ride the horses.
- 29:32Yeah. You ride along the little, the
- 29:34little pen there a little stable.
- 29:35Well, you're like the real life cowboy.
- 29:37You darn too? Yeah.
- 29:39Went to horse camp. That's cool.
- 29:41It's fun, Yeah. How about surfing?
- 29:43Would you ever do that? Oh God no, why not?
- 29:45I have 0 balance. OK, so stand on one foot.
- 29:48Let's see. I I just fell over, no.
- 29:51Yeah, no, that's not good. No, I wouldn't do it either.
- 29:54Yeah, but that's not because of the balance, although granted,
- 29:56my balance is not good. But ocean sharks?
- 30:00That's right, yeah. Bite.
- 30:02Die. Yeah, I I don't like that.
- 30:05Yeah. Didn't Ocean scare me?
- 30:07We. Learned last week the best way
- 30:08to not get bit by sharks is it's it's not going the ocean.
- 30:10Not going. It's not on the top ten list.
- 30:12So don't we don't have to worry about it because obviously.
- 30:15Yeah. How about in your retirement?
- 30:17Do you wanna do any woodworking? Hmm.
- 30:20Does that mean like building a campfire?
- 30:23Yeah, I could do that. Okay.
- 30:25So I wanna build like side tables and things and I wanna
- 30:29learn how to do a resin pour. Sure, those things.
- 30:31So all the scrap wood that I'm left with I'll give to you and
- 30:34you can do the campfire. Done.
- 30:36You need to speak with our daughter Nikki cuz Nikki does
- 30:40this. She does.
- 30:41I didn't know that. Does, yes.
- 30:43OK, totally wanna. Yeah, so she's like, she's made
- 30:46tables and her all. She has things she's made.
- 30:48And yeah, it does the resin thing.
- 30:48It does awesome. That's totally what I want to
- 30:50do. They get, they get these big,
- 30:51big old. A sheet of wood.
- 30:54Yeah, sheet of wood, you know, where you you cut the and it's
- 30:58the blog and put legs on it. Yeah.
- 30:59You know when you get a slab of wood and you just, you just take
- 31:02the wood and you do, you put legs on it and you do the resin
- 31:04and all that kind of stuff. Make a little peoples out of it.
- 31:06Those are beautiful. Yeah.
- 31:07So if you get the the burrowed wood, yeah, that has all the
- 31:10different grains that move around.
- 31:12You know, I want to do this woodworking in tandem with all
- 31:15of my art that I do because obviously, yeah, I think a few
- 31:19people know that they paint. Yeah, that's very artsy.
- 31:21Artsy. It is.
- 31:22I think it's artsy. Yeah.
- 31:23Yeah, for sure. I want to start small, though.
- 31:25Yeah. I want to make cutting boards.
- 31:27Yeah. So, you know, there's that.
- 31:28Concerts. You've been to a couple of
- 31:29concerts. I've been to a couple of
- 31:31concerts with you and without you.
- 31:32Yeah, I know. I'm sorry.
- 31:34No. It's OK.
- 31:35But but if I was to list out my concerts, if I can remember them
- 31:38all, I know. Well, we went to Pink.
- 31:39Yes, we did. I'll have seen Pink once you've
- 31:42seen him. Like I don't know, groupie.
- 31:44But the last 12 times she's been in Minneapolis.
- 31:46Yes, yeah, you are groupie. And we saw.
- 31:48We drove our road trip last year.
- 31:49The purpose of our road trip is to drive to Montana.
- 31:51To see pink. To see pink, see you are groupie
- 31:53if you drive somewhere to see a concert.
- 31:56I decided it was cool to see her in an outdoor college stadium in
- 31:59the mountains. Yeah, it was.
- 32:01It was cool. That was awesome.
- 32:02But then we saw Def Leppard and Joan Jett together.
- 32:05Yep, I saw Bon Jovi. Would that be good?
- 32:08Yeah, it was really good. Yeah, it was one of his newer
- 32:11albums. OK.
- 32:12Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney. And if we go back, go way, way
- 32:17back. I saw The Judds, Dixie Chicks.
- 32:19Keith Urban was pretty recent. Brooks and Dunn.
- 32:22Brooks and Dunn, Boots Good and boogie baby.
- 32:24Yep, that's when that was live. Or their hit song.
- 32:27And then, of course, Prince. Oh.
- 32:28Yeah, you're from Minnesota. How can you not see Prince?
- 32:30You didn't see Prince? Multiple times.
- 32:33And did you ever do an after concert at at Paisley Park?
- 32:37I've never been to Paisley Park. I've see.
- 32:39I've done the, I've done the after concert.
- 32:41OK, yeah, those are fun. Those are fun.
- 32:43How about you? What did you see?
- 32:45Well, obviously pink defleppard. Seen bare naked ladies a few
- 32:48times, Seen kiss a couple times. Not a huge kiss fan.
- 32:52I decided one. I mean, I like their.
- 32:54Hits. Yeah, their hits are good.
- 32:56I like the hits, but and they claim to be the loudest band in
- 32:59rock'n'roll and they are the loudest band in rock'n'roll.
- 33:01What gets so loud? What's at the point where you
- 33:03wearing ear earplugs? Yeah, right.
- 33:07And you're still like, I still got the vibration.
- 33:09Like I couldn't see. Like it was so loud like it hurt
- 33:12I literally walked out like it's it was just too much for me.
- 33:14I I think that's why I have hearing loss.
- 33:17Probably Kiss concerts. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:19KISS concerts. No, I've never been to a KISS
- 33:21concert, but that's why I have hearing loss.
- 33:23It's crazy. Blue Man Group.
- 33:25OK. But that's not a debt.
- 33:28Is a rock show. It is a rock show.
- 33:30I have not seen them. OK.
- 33:31So I'm gonna say it is a rock show because you have this Blue
- 33:32Man Group, you've seen them on TV, but half the show is they
- 33:35they play music and it's, I mean, it's, it's rock music and
- 33:38a thought and it's fun. I want to.
- 33:40Go So next time we go to Vegas, we're going to a Blue Man Group.
- 33:42Show we have a lot of trips we have to plan.
- 33:44And I'm surprised in all of your listings you didn't mentor.
- 33:47I'm Garth. Garth Brooks.
- 33:48Well, OK, I didn't see Garth. You never saw Garth Brooks
- 33:51concert? We had tickets.
- 33:53I had tickets and we were ready to go.
- 33:55This is in the in the 80s, yeah. Late 80s, yeah.
- 33:58And I went to work that day. Uh huh.
- 34:01And wear my cowboy boots had the tickets my wife was going to she
- 34:05was home to let the plumber in and then she was going to meet
- 34:07me and pick me up from work and little concert.
- 34:11Well, what happens that particular day I fall, I'll, I
- 34:18mean, definitely I'll I collapsed at work, passed out
- 34:23from the pain I was having in my gut, and they rushed me to the
- 34:27hospital. You were that excited to go see
- 34:29Garth. You got stomach pains?
- 34:31And I had pancreen Titus and had gallstones.
- 34:35Oh, good Lord. So the doctor told me that, you
- 34:39know, any longer and I would have died.
- 34:41Oh my gosh. Well, I'm glad you went to the
- 34:43doctor. Not the time.
- 34:43So my wife ended up giving the tickets to the plumber.
- 34:46Oh God, and I never got to see Garth Brooks.
- 34:48See, a smart man would have written a nice little letter to
- 34:50Garth Brooks say, I would have loved to come see you, but
- 34:52instead I was having my life saved because funny.
- 34:59So travel, we obviously the whole podcast and traveling, but
- 35:01are there any other places that you would like to go that we
- 35:04really didn't talk about? Oh well, we talked about a few
- 35:07of them, but I really want to go to Ireland and those northern
- 35:10countries. I do too.
- 35:11I think that would be fine. Now, don't get me wrong, I want
- 35:13to go to Aruba and I want to go to Jamaica, and we want to take
- 35:17me to Bermuda. I want to go to those places
- 35:22too, because they're warm and gorgeous and lay on the beach
- 35:25and I love it. Yeah, but there's so much more.
- 35:28Well, I don't know if there's probably history in all places,
- 35:30but I just feel a connection to Ireland and Scotland.
- 35:34So I went to Germany in high school and I would love to go
- 35:37back now, a little more older, a little wiser.
- 35:40I would love to take in that culture again.
- 35:43Yeah, knowing what I know because.
- 35:44It's different now. Totally different now, yeah.
- 35:46And but I even then, even at 17, I mean, I thought we were there
- 35:49for two weeks. I thought it was fantastic.
- 35:51Yeah, I want to go to Germany. I would love to go back now.
- 35:53Does it count if when I was flying to Rome we had to lay
- 35:57over in Frankfurt? No, because I didn't leave the
- 36:00airport, No. Airports all count.
- 36:01Oh, so then I wasn't in Germany, but I was sort of in Germany.
- 36:04You know, every airport looks the same.
- 36:06I'm sorry but. No, the Frankfurt Airport
- 36:08doesn't look the. Same, it looks like every other
- 36:10freaking airport you've ever seen.
- 36:11Don't even try and tell me it doesn't.
- 36:13It does. You are a liar.
- 36:17But yeah, I think travel does seem to be something you do as
- 36:19you get older in life. I think it does, but I think you
- 36:22just have more time and quote UN quote more money I hope.
- 36:25OK, that makes sense. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, you're right.
- 36:28You're right, I guess. Yeah.
- 36:28No, they say it out loud. You're right.
- 36:30You have a lot more time you're trying to fill the gaps with.
- 36:33Yeah. And you're right, you have a
- 36:34little more money in your life. Hopefully.
- 36:35Hopefully. Yeah.
- 36:36So that makes. Sense I'd like to go back to
- 36:37Italy. Yeah.
- 36:38But this time I if I do go, I wanna learn some more Italian.
- 36:42OK. And so that I could, I would
- 36:44like to actually live in Tuscany for a while.
- 36:46Forget about it. Forget about it.
- 36:49It's all Italian Ciao. Spaghetti.
- 36:56Yeah, so, so you said you like to learn a little more Italian.
- 36:58I mean, did you learn some when you went to Italy?
- 37:01We did learn some kind of the little bit of the lingo, how to
- 37:04communicate and, you know, real quick.
- 37:06Sure, things like that. Yeah.
- 37:07Yeah. But that's all left.
- 37:09So I took German in high school before I knew I was going to
- 37:11Germany. So I was in year 3 of German
- 37:13class when I went to Germany. So I had a.
- 37:15Very good working knowledge. OK, good.
- 37:17So you did know I did kind of what was going on.
- 37:19But honestly, I'd really like to learn Spanish.
- 37:22You would, I did Well, you could talk to half people in, but
- 37:24that's. What I'm saying, I mean, I just
- 37:26think the the way that our world is going now, I think that would
- 37:29be the best language to learn to be able to communicate better
- 37:31with people. It is the most widely spoken.
- 37:33Language, yeah. Plus I feel awkward always
- 37:34having in my in my ear, my headphones in and holding my
- 37:37phone with people when I talk to them.
- 37:38That's that's. It's a little intrusive.
- 37:41Not a great way to start a conversation.
- 37:42Speak. In this phone.
- 37:44Oh, you're speaking Spanish? I'm Momento, here's my phone.
- 37:47I took French class in high school.
- 37:49Did you? Yeah.
- 37:50And has that served you well in life?
- 37:51I can count to 10 and I can tell you that this is la tabla.
- 37:57French are into French cuisine is very popular, isn't?
- 38:01It it is have. You ever taken a cooking class?
- 38:03I haven't taken a cooking class. I'd love to take more cooking
- 38:05classes, but my wonderful wife Amy did once give me a chocolate
- 38:12making class. Was that a cooking class?
- 38:14Okay, I guess, but you don't actually cook it, you melt it.
- 38:17That's true. But yeah, it was for an
- 38:19anniversary gift. And she called around and she
- 38:21found a small chocolatier who was willing to show us and teach
- 38:27us. Oh, cool.
- 38:28It was called Chocolate Celeste in Minneapolis.
- 38:31And we were able to go in on a Saturday, and she was there
- 38:34making chocolates. And she talked us through the
- 38:36whole process. We helped her make the
- 38:38chocolates, how to dip them and how to, you know, put the little
- 38:41decals on them and actually made chocolates for her shop.
- 38:44Nice, that's very cool. It was very, very cool.
- 38:46Yeah, I did cooking class once. It was fun.
- 38:48I, we made some sort of like 3 course meal and it was really
- 38:51good and it was exciting, but I don't know if I'd want to do it
- 38:54on a regular basis. I mean it was fun, but it was, I
- 38:56like it. Been there, done that.
- 38:59One thing I did once that was really, really fun.
- 39:00I did an art class once. You did.
- 39:02With who? With you.
- 39:02Oh yeah, I remember that. That was.
- 39:06Fun. Was it fun it?
- 39:07Was I had a great time. I know you were stressed the
- 39:08entire time, but we had a great time.
- 39:10Well, for. Quite a while I used to teach
- 39:12the wine and paint classes, OK, and, and they're fun, you know,
- 39:16I have a good time doing them, right.
- 39:18It's a little bit of a stress, you know, because you got a lot
- 39:20of people who have varying levels.
- 39:22Yeah, and positivity is wins out every time.
- 39:25Absolutely. And and they're relying on you.
- 39:27So I I can see that's a little bit of right bit of stress,
- 39:29yeah. How about would you ever buy a
- 39:31convertible? Oh yeah.
- 39:34What's the convertible you want? Well, I would, I would get I
- 39:36would get. So growing up, I got even
- 39:38growing up in my 20s, I had a Jeep Wrangler.
- 39:40OK, I would love to get a Wrangler again.
- 39:42OK, I think that would be a fun weekend vehicle on a nice summer
- 39:45day. Just pop in the Jeep, but throw
- 39:47the top off down or off or whatever you want to do.
- 39:49Take the doors off and just hit. It that would be fun.
- 39:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:52Growing up I was one of the Corvette.
- 39:54OK, but that's changed now in mine.
- 39:57OK later. What do you want now?
- 39:58Yours Mustang. OK, Mustang convert.
- 40:01Why? Why the Mustang now?
- 40:03It's a sexy. Muscle car it is.
- 40:05It is. Come on.
- 40:07It is really nice. Yeah.
- 40:08Yeah, that's why, Yeah. Hey Rob, would you ever write a
- 40:11book in your retirement? I'd have to read a book in order
- 40:15to write a book, so oh. Come on, we know you've read at
- 40:17least one. I just had a huge reader.
- 40:20I mean yes, I I read all the Harry Potter books.
- 40:23I did too. Yeah, those are fascinating.
- 40:25I do like that sort of, yeah, entertainment.
- 40:27But it took. Me forever, just because you
- 40:29know, I think my problem is when I start to read, First off, my
- 40:31eyes are not the best and I get tired.
- 40:35Then take a nap. But then he can't.
- 40:37Then I'm very methodical. I have to finish a chapter.
- 40:41Oh, no, no, no. I'm one of those people I I
- 40:44can't stop in the middle. I have to get to the end.
- 40:47I'm reading a book right now that I read when I'm at the
- 40:49cabin and I read one page and I get tired and I put my bookmark
- 40:52in. I take a nap.
- 40:55I do the same thing with TV. Drives my wife nuts 'cause we're
- 40:57watching a show and it's like we got like, you know, half an
- 40:59hour. We're both kind of tired.
- 41:00Like we're ready to go to bed. Like you want to start something
- 41:01else? I'm like, they're all our shows.
- 41:03Like, no, they're our shows. She's like, you can watch half
- 41:06of a show. I'm like, no, I can't.
- 41:07You gotta watch the whole show. That's.
- 41:09The whole show. Well, getting back to the book
- 41:11writing, you know I am writing a cookbook right now.
- 41:13Are I am? Oh.
- 41:14That's exciting. What?
- 41:15What are you? What are you cookbooking about?
- 41:17So I was, I thought of this idea, my wife and I thought of
- 41:20this idea about writing a a book of all of our favorite recipes
- 41:23to give to our kids. Mm Hmm.
- 41:24For like a holiday. Oh.
- 41:25That's cool. Well, this book started years
- 41:28ago and they've not received it yet.
- 41:29I. Say I say you're not ruining any
- 41:31surprises. Right now, no, no, they all know
- 41:32about it. But yeah, it's still in progress
- 41:35and so we are writing it and you have to make the recipes, take a
- 41:38photograph and all that sort of thing, and it's pretty cool.
- 41:41That's cool, but hopefully someday it'll get done.
- 41:43Yeah, cool. So this November for
- 41:46Thanksgiving, we're going to see my mom who lives in Arizona, and
- 41:48we decided this trip that we're going to take a day and
- 41:52overnight trip and go to the Grand Canyon.
- 41:54Have you ever been to the Grand? Never been to the Grand Canyon?
- 41:56You haven't. No.
- 41:57And she lives so close to it. Like, why don't we do that?
- 41:59So we're going to do that. Oh, it's amazing.
- 42:00So. You've been there, I take it?
- 42:01I. Have been there?
- 42:02Have you ever wanted to extreme hike to the bottom of the Grand
- 42:06Canyon? Extreme and extreme.
- 42:07Everything at this point in my life, no.
- 42:11So I looked into it and I really wanted to do it years ago, but
- 42:14now my knee isn't the greatest anymore.
- 42:16But I think I could train. OK.
- 42:17But you hike down and it's about a four to six hour hike to get
- 42:22down. OK.
- 42:23And then, you know, given the daylight issues, you actually
- 42:26stay overnight at a place called Phantom Ranch.
- 42:28Would that be fun? And it's like dormitory style.
- 42:31Yeah. And then you basically stay
- 42:33there a night or two and you hike back out.
- 42:36It takes about 6 to 10 hours to hike out.
- 42:37There's the problem right there the the backup.
- 42:40Come on, it's. Cool, I can hike down no
- 42:42problem. It's the it's the hike.
- 42:43Backup I I once even they took Google Maps and follow the trail
- 42:47down just to look at it. It's pretty cool.
- 42:49That's cool. That's pretty close to
- 42:50Albuquerque, right? I well, I stayed away.
- 42:55'Cause they they have hot air balloon festival there, I've
- 42:57always kind of wanted to go. See.
- 42:58Oh, I've always wanted to go to that.
- 42:59I think it's in October, isn't it?
- 43:00I'm not sure that'd be fun. Yeah, it would be fun.
- 43:02Yeah, you've been on a hot. Air balloon, I've never been on
- 43:04one really. I've been on there is a height
- 43:06issue there is that. So, you know, you've, I don't
- 43:10know if you've seen me in those situations, but I do kind of
- 43:14Crouch down and yeah, like fetal position 'cause it's too scary.
- 43:18Yeah, and hot air balloons are. It's definitely different.
- 43:20I've done twice now and we actually back in the day had a
- 43:24spring green balloon and they came to Oconia.
- 43:27Really. Yeah, so they were out here and
- 43:29we just found a farm and ask a hey, can we launch a balloon?
- 43:32Sure, launch a balloon. Flew right over Waconia, flew
- 43:35right over the lake, and then landed in a farm somewhere on
- 43:38the other side of Hwy. 7. That's cool.
- 43:40It was pretty cool, it was fun, but it's definitely a different
- 43:43experience because it goes just however the wind goes.
- 43:45So you you know the the. Rights you have to have somebody
- 43:48driving. But like you pull the little
- 43:51thing to do the fire and it's loud to get the heat.
- 43:54Is it really? And then they just control the
- 43:56heat, the up and down. And this, the wind just takes
- 43:58you and it's, you're just hanging out there like you have
- 44:01no control. You control the up and the down.
- 44:03Wow, that's it. So you make it sound like I
- 44:06really want to go on a balloon ride.
- 44:07You. Don't want to go on a balloon
- 44:09ride. OK, I thought it was all.
- 44:10Good check that one off the list.
- 44:11That was awesome. So would you ever again extreme
- 44:16hike up a volcano? Climb up the volcano to see
- 44:20lava. Is it active?
- 44:22Well, you can't see lava if it's not active.
- 44:25I don't think I'd hike up the active volcano to go see the
- 44:28lava. No, I from a distance.
- 44:29I think it'd be cool to see like I know there's an active one
- 44:31right now in Hawaii. Yeah, I think that'd be fun to
- 44:33kind of watch it, watch the lava just lava along.
- 44:35But. Did you ever see that
- 44:36documentary The Volcano I did not rescue from Wakari?
- 44:40No. So true story.
- 44:42Yeah, people were hiking out on this volcano and it's actual
- 44:47tours go out there. Well, the it's in New Zealand, I
- 44:50believe it erupts out. And seriously, the whole
- 44:55documentary is about how to save these people.
- 44:58And some were just burned alive. And so I'll never, I'll never
- 45:04climb a volcano. Yeah.
- 45:05So do you want to ask me again if I want to do that?
- 45:07I'm still going to say no, no, I didn't sound like fun at all.
- 45:12Doesn't sound like fun, right? So that's how you make a living
- 45:15list. Yes, that's a great list.
- 45:17Yes, there's a lot here that we can do to really make our middle
- 45:19age more fun and exciting, don't you think?
- 45:21If we accomplish only a few of these, our list is going to be
- 45:24great. That's going to be a great life.
- 45:25Absolutely it is. Yep.
- 45:27In fact, we are living a pretty great life right now.
- 45:30I would agree. But doing a few of these things
- 45:33could make a pretty interesting book, don't you think?
- 45:35Yep. For sure, for sure.
- 45:36The book you're going to write. Yep.
- 45:37The last thing we want to mention is that we and oh, and
- 45:41One More thing show will be going on a short hiatus just for
- 45:44a few weeks. What I know?
- 45:46I'm not going to see you for a few weeks.
- 45:47You will still see me. We have coffee together.
- 45:49Oh God, don't scare me like. We'll be writing some new
- 45:52content and taking some a much needed summer vacation, yes.
