- 0:58Speaker 2: There we go, Ella, you got you got something to
- 1:01Speaker 2: talk about here first before we do the rest of
- 1:03Speaker 2: the show.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yeah. If people are wondering why I'm why I'm dicking
- 1:05Speaker 3: with my phone, it's our our friend and colleague Dave
- 1:09Speaker 3: Smith at you know, Dave Smith Decoy's sent this thing
- 1:13Speaker 3: this morning. There's a hunter who's a good friend of
- 1:17Speaker 3: Dave's named Devin Dobek, who on October thirty sent a
- 1:22Speaker 3: satellite text message in mount Hood National Forests sent it
- 1:27Speaker 3: on October thirty at seven pm, sent a satellite text
- 1:30Speaker 3: message saying he'd killed a buck. It was going to
- 1:33Speaker 3: take a while to pack it out. No one's heard
- 1:36Speaker 3: from him since, so hundreds of volunteer searchers, search and
- 1:40Speaker 3: rescue Sheriff's department can't find them. They're going to call
- 1:45Speaker 3: off the search. Dave sent me a GoFundMe link because
- 1:49Speaker 3: the family really would want some closure here.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been two weeks.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and so they're trying to raise money for to
- 2:01Speaker 3: keep people in the field, could have her dogs like whatever.
- 2:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:07Speaker 2: What's the go fundme called?
- 2:08Speaker 3: And Dave's been helping out on it. Man, I think
- 2:12Speaker 3: it's called Help Find Devon Dobek mount Hood National Forest,
- 2:18Speaker 3: Fish Creek. That's gotta be what it's called, right, cal,
- 2:21Speaker 3: I mean if that's the big title, Yeah, help Find
- 2:23Speaker 3: Devon Dobek d e v O N d O b
- 2:27Speaker 3: e K. I'm trying to right now put a thing
- 2:29Speaker 3: on Instagram about it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Can we put a link in the chat? Phil? Does
- 2:34Speaker 1: that work?
- 2:34Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll find a link, a share link and put
- 2:37Speaker 5: it in there.
- 2:37Speaker 3: So Dave's been volunt Dave's been volunteering in the search.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Oh just.
- 2:44Speaker 2: What a feeling sad story. If you go to the GoFundMe,
- 2:47Speaker 2: you can try to help bring Devon home.
- 2:49Speaker 3: So that's what I'm doing right now.
- 2:50Speaker 2: All right, we are deep in the bullpen of media
- 2:54Speaker 2: radio host today. It was supposed to be Randall in
- 2:57Speaker 2: cal seat, and then yesterday afternoon and Randall said, boy,
- 3:01Speaker 2: I'd really like to go to your hunting Corey. Could
- 3:03Speaker 2: you co host tomorrow? Corey said yeah, I'll do that.
- 3:07Speaker 2: And then last night at like nine pm, Corey texted
- 3:09Speaker 2: and he said, uh, hey, I would really like to
- 3:12Speaker 2: go Elk hunting in the morning. Cal. Can you host? Cal?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Would you tell?
- 3:16Speaker 5: Him?
- 3:17Speaker 3: Said?
- 3:17Speaker 1: No problem?
- 3:17Speaker 2: And no problem. So we're on our our third relief
- 3:21Speaker 2: host here today, Ryan Callahan taking over for Randall, taking
- 3:25Speaker 2: over for Corey. And I've heard some good news from
- 3:27Speaker 2: Corey this morning. He killed a bull.
- 3:29Speaker 3: H thank god. He's getting a little powdery looking yesterday
- 3:32Speaker 3: he's looking a little.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But I think that's yeah, I don't know, I think
- 3:37Speaker 1: that's awesome. You got to got to chip in where
- 3:39Speaker 1: he can get in the woods.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, Steve, Steve has really created a culture around here
- 3:44Speaker 2: skipping work to go hunting. Yeah, so.
- 3:49Speaker 3: You are like a no hunting rule until until Steve's
- 3:52Speaker 3: tagged out.
- 3:54Speaker 1: No, it's it's the adult culture of get your stuff
- 3:57Speaker 1: done court, don't taking a hassle for somebody else.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But yeah, you were here, didn't you get a powery
- 4:03Speaker 3: feeling off Cordy. Corey been helping a lot of other
- 4:07Speaker 3: people feel their fill their freezer.
- 4:09Speaker 1: True help another.
- 4:11Speaker 3: He didn't say like, bye, golly, I've been helping other people.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Fil I think Corey's Corey's earned the right to be
- 4:18Speaker 5: a little snippy. He's he's such a he helps out
- 4:20Speaker 5: everyone he does.
- 4:21Speaker 3: That's coming from the king of Snip over.
- 4:23Speaker 5: There too, proud of that title.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So as we as we sit here, Corey right now
- 4:31Speaker 2: is on a mountain. He was texting me with satellite
- 4:34Speaker 2: texts this morning. Maybe he'll join us later on the
- 4:36Speaker 2: show if you can get some good cell signal and
- 4:38Speaker 2: we'll get that first look at a bully.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Dude just having such a technical struggle. Go ahead, keep
- 4:44Speaker 3: doing the show. I'm almost with.
- 4:46Speaker 2: You, okay, uh, I just got home from a haunt, Steve.
- 4:49Speaker 2: You just got home from a haunt. Cal I'm sure
- 4:52Speaker 2: you're either coming or going from a haunt right now.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Can I tell you boys about the time I killed
- 4:57Speaker 2: the biggest buck of my life? Yeah, just the big
- 5:01Speaker 2: biggest buck of my life.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Yeah, all those big old white tails you got.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm flattered to think you killed that. I killed
- 5:07Speaker 2: bigger deer than that before. That's that's my biggest I just.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Feel like you guys in South Dakota shot all those
- 5:13Speaker 3: giant white tales all the time.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I mean, not not as big as this one.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I'm about getting wrapped up over here. But keep going.
- 5:20Speaker 2: The hunt story itself not that terribly interesting. I think
- 5:24Speaker 2: the interesting part is how I got access to this place.
- 5:27Speaker 2: This was just a door knock.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I went to tell that.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Well, I got permission here last year. This year, I
- 5:34Speaker 2: was trying to get this permission again, struggled to get
- 5:37Speaker 2: a hold of the land owner. From what I gathered,
- 5:40Speaker 2: they were snowbirds, So my landline phone number I had
- 5:43Speaker 2: was not reaching them. The letter I wrote them was
- 5:46Speaker 2: not reaching them. I just need to confirm that I
- 5:48Speaker 2: could hunt there exactly.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Yeah, because you didn't want to do that. Well, you
- 5:51Speaker 3: gave me permission one time, a long time ago. Before
- 5:53Speaker 3: I'll hunt the rest of my life.
- 5:54Speaker 2: That that doesn't fly. So I was desperate to get
- 5:57Speaker 2: in touch with these folks. I did something I've never
- 6:00Speaker 2: done before. I found out, uh, their adult child who
- 6:03Speaker 2: lived in another state.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Uh.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And I figured out where they worked, and I took
- 6:07Speaker 2: a guess as to what their work email could be.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And I reached out to that person and I opened
- 6:13Speaker 2: the email.
- 6:13Speaker 3: But retraining order.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I said, So I slept in the parking lot. So
- 6:18Speaker 1: I told them home.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I put myself in a large box.
- 6:22Speaker 2: That's right, their oldest child. I opened the email by saying, uh,
- 6:26Speaker 2: let me put this out there first. I think what
- 6:28Speaker 2: I'm doing is very inappropriate by reaching out to you
- 6:30Speaker 2: here at your work email. Uh, this is you know
- 6:34Speaker 2: who I am. I got permission for your parents last year.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I'm trying to get permission again. It all worked out.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I got in touch with them just hours later because
- 6:41Speaker 2: of that. And and then I went and I killed
- 6:44Speaker 2: my biggest dear ever that that Phil has a few
- 6:47Speaker 2: pictures of this Mulely was was coming off of a
- 6:51Speaker 2: winter week.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Wouldn't have gotten that.
- 6:56Speaker 2: What what do you wish I got?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I wish I knew he was just still out there, you.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Know, what kind of interesting because that's a young face
- 7:02Speaker 1: to me, but great forks.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I mean I he had an enormous body, the biggest
- 7:07Speaker 2: body of of any deer that I've ever dealt with.
- 7:11Speaker 2: So I I don't think that that was a.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Aren't too jealous before you? I'm jealous for you? What's
- 7:18Speaker 3: it call when you just don't when you just see
- 7:20Speaker 3: something in the makeshift set?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Right?
- 7:22Speaker 3: Jealousy?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Jealousy? Okay? Yeah, yeah, so so very thrillout. I'm squirrel
- 7:28Speaker 2: something that that happened there was I got the worst
- 7:31Speaker 2: case of buck fever I've had quite a while. Yeah, Like,
- 7:34Speaker 2: when do you guys not get buck fever anymore?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Certain circumstances. I like what I'll tell you, Like, I
- 7:40Speaker 1: can feel it creeping in and there's a mental decision
- 7:44Speaker 1: to cave to it or block it out.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I agree with you this this buck in particular. Thankfully,
- 7:50Speaker 2: the moments of me realizing just how big he was
- 7:53Speaker 2: were very brief between me me learning that and me
- 7:56Speaker 2: shooting him. So the buck fever set in and I
- 8:00Speaker 2: autumn and it didn't build up. The worst buck fever
- 8:02Speaker 2: I'd ever had in my life was my previously biggest deer.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I killed with my bow and I had to watch
- 8:07Speaker 2: that deer walk in for a half hour before I
- 8:09Speaker 2: could shoot. I was an absolute wreck by the time
- 8:13Speaker 2: he got there, just totally shaking, on the verge of
- 8:16Speaker 2: falling out of my tree. I didn't know that a
- 8:19Speaker 2: person can feel that way for that long until that happened.
- 8:22Speaker 2: But this this deer was a reminder of like what
- 8:25Speaker 2: the shakes can really feel like. Yeah, yeah, you said
- 8:28Speaker 2: sometimes it happens, cal.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Oh, for I think all the time. It happens if
- 8:33Speaker 1: you allow it, allow it to happen.
- 8:35Speaker 2: It's kind of fun. Though when it happened, it is
- 8:38Speaker 2: like healthy.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Well it's a drug, right, it's adrenaline. And I yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I had this amazing, very brutal hunt with just like
- 8:47Speaker 1: glimpses of deer in a hard spot, and then found
- 8:51Speaker 1: this pocket a deer and they're like four bucks, thank god,
- 8:54Speaker 1: were like somewhere in like the eight to a dozen
- 8:58Speaker 1: deer total. It was like all the deer in on
- 9:00Speaker 1: this mountain, We're in this one little crevice and lo
- 9:04Speaker 1: and behold, there's this three point mule deer buck in
- 9:07Speaker 1: there that is like one of the heaviest deer I've
- 9:10Speaker 1: ever seen. To this day, just like all bronzed up
- 9:15Speaker 1: mountain buck big around as my wrists and.
- 9:19Speaker 3: The zandlers, yeah, and.
- 9:23Speaker 1: The deer start filtering through this little pocket. There's all
- 9:26Speaker 1: these openings, and everybody's like coming out and stopping in
- 9:30Speaker 1: this opening and coming out and stopping in this opening,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and coming out and stopping in this opening. And he
- 9:35Speaker 1: comes right up to the edge of the opening and
- 9:37Speaker 1: I'm like, totally set up, rock solid, very close, and
- 9:43Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I shot
- 9:46Speaker 1: the opening. I was like here he comes back, and
- 9:50Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god. Yeah, and you know, mentally,
- 9:56Speaker 1: like you know, like they don't know exactly where it's
- 9:59Speaker 1: coming from. They heard a big ou noise, a big
- 10:00Speaker 1: smack in front of him. I had time to shoot
- 10:03Speaker 1: this buck again, and I was so I was beating
- 10:07Speaker 1: myself up so hard immediately. Yeah, as he was going
- 10:12Speaker 1: over the crest of the ridge, which was only like
- 10:14Speaker 1: a two hundred yard shot at that point, like I
- 10:17Speaker 1: was on him. I was solid. It was a moving shot,
- 10:20Speaker 1: but it was like that going away thing, and I
- 10:23Speaker 1: just knew I could kill him, and I said, you
- 10:26Speaker 1: don't deserve this, And I didn't pull the trigger. I
- 10:29Speaker 1: was so, so so pissed at myself.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Steve buck Fever, when's the last time you felt it?
- 10:36Speaker 5: Oh?
- 10:36Speaker 3: Can I tell you something. I'm gonna tell you something
- 10:38Speaker 3: funny first, because this pertains what I'm gonna say. My
- 10:42Speaker 3: wife likes to hike up the m hill Okay, and
- 10:45Speaker 3: she took our little boy up there last week. I
- 10:47Speaker 3: think it was last week. Anyways, he was talking about
- 10:49Speaker 3: how he always feels so good when he hikes up
- 10:52Speaker 3: the hill. Oh, and she said, your body is releasing
- 10:55Speaker 3: endorphins from the exercise. And he said, and you want
- 10:58Speaker 3: to know what endorphins are? And he said, well, if
- 11:01Speaker 3: they're good, why would it release.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Them at you there?
- 11:06Speaker 3: So I have like a pet theory about this that
- 11:11Speaker 3: I feel that there is a finite amount of whatever
- 11:16Speaker 3: it is that gives you buck beebrol.
- 11:18Speaker 2: You've exhausted it, no, No, but.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I've used a lot of it up and I think
- 11:22Speaker 3: that people are born with varying degrees of it. Some
- 11:24Speaker 3: people are born with an enormous well right that they
- 11:29Speaker 3: just can't use. I have just personally I felt over
- 11:34Speaker 3: the years that like whatever gland it is that like
- 11:36Speaker 3: makes a thing, it is getting old, yeah, or it's
- 11:41Speaker 3: running out.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And there's that finite and it just doesn't do it.
- 11:44Speaker 3: It doesn't like squirt as much out as it did
- 11:47Speaker 3: when I was young. And it still gives a little squirt, yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 3: but I feel like in a decade at this going rate, man,
- 11:55Speaker 3: it'll be be squirted out.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I don't like that. You told us that.
- 11:59Speaker 3: That's just a theory. I don't know. I just feel
- 12:01Speaker 3: like it's like like the surge, Yeah, it doesn't work
- 12:07Speaker 3: as good as it once did, you know.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Buddy mine and like he's in the super adventurous, very
- 12:13Speaker 1: dangerous whitewater kayaking community doing first descents and crazy stuff,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and there's you know, it's not a huge community, but
- 12:20Speaker 1: there's there's plenty of folks and there's a lot of
- 12:22Speaker 1: folks that get in the water and they practice their
- 12:25Speaker 1: role just to kind of like loosen up and get
- 12:28Speaker 1: in the mental space. And he's like, won't catch me
- 12:31Speaker 1: doing that. That's the stupidest thing in the world. Why,
- 12:36Speaker 1: Because he's he firmly believes that you have a finite
- 12:39Speaker 1: amount of roles, and he's like, why would you waste
- 12:43Speaker 1: one when you don't need it?
- 12:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Steve has been guiding some of his kids to
- 12:48Speaker 2: deer lately, do they do they get buck fever real bad?
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, my daughter has a peculiar kind of of buck
- 12:57Speaker 3: fever and hanging out with kids. I feel like it's like,
- 13:01Speaker 3: I feel like it's more calm. I notice very small
- 13:04Speaker 3: sample set. I think it's more common in girls than boys.
- 13:08Speaker 3: She likes to explore verbally, explore whatever. She likes to
- 13:13Speaker 3: spend a lot of time on what could go wrong
- 13:17Speaker 3: and likes to cover off her Part of her process
- 13:20Speaker 3: is covering off on what could go wrong and how
- 13:23Speaker 3: to prevent it. This is not a thing that designed
- 13:26Speaker 3: my boys minds. Oh, that is very far outside of
- 13:32Speaker 3: their heads, like kicking around what could go wrong? How
- 13:36Speaker 3: can we prevent it? They are not, that's not on
- 13:40Speaker 3: their minds.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Are they already thinking about the opposite, like them holding
- 13:43Speaker 2: the antlers?
- 13:44Speaker 3: They don't. I don't know that they think that much.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I don't know they think that much. My daughters. What
- 13:49Speaker 3: if we get what if what if it falls over
- 13:50Speaker 3: but we can't find it, What if we hit it
- 13:53Speaker 3: in the leg? What if we emit? Like she wants
- 13:56Speaker 3: to cover it all off. And it's a form of
- 13:58Speaker 3: and it's a little bit it's it's a little buck fevery. Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 3: you know, it's a little buck fevery.
- 14:03Speaker 2: It's fun though. Yeah, even even if it's like the
- 14:07Speaker 2: stakes feel lower and you're shooting a dough or something,
- 14:11Speaker 2: just like the the moments of knowing it's gonna happen
- 14:14Speaker 2: and thinking like everything is going to change after I
- 14:17Speaker 2: pulled the trigger. That's that's very exciting to experience.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Archie Elk, I did a great job of just
- 14:26Speaker 1: like blocking off the endorphin situation because I would just
- 14:31Speaker 1: get in this mindset of like Broadside Elk meet in
- 14:36Speaker 1: the freezer, then I can go mule deer hunt, and
- 14:39Speaker 1: I'm like, it's gonna be a lot of work, it's
- 14:40Speaker 1: gonna suck. You're stupid for doing this, and just beat
- 14:45Speaker 1: down any feelings of like excitement and adrenaline and well,
- 14:49Speaker 1: and then I would let that come in afterwards and
- 14:52Speaker 1: be like, wow, that was really neat. But now, you
- 14:54Speaker 1: stupid idiot, you have to pack this thing out.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I get advanced buck fever to the point where I
- 14:59Speaker 2: will sleep worse the night before if I know like
- 15:02Speaker 2: it's going to be a good haunt tomorrow. I just
- 15:05Speaker 2: I love that that little bit of stress that like
- 15:09Speaker 2: when the sun comes up, it's going to be good.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I have. Yeah, there's a lot of anxiety in
- 15:15Speaker 1: hunting for me as far as like, oh god, how
- 15:17Speaker 1: many trucks are going to be at the trailhead?
- 15:19Speaker 3: And did.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I told you guys before? Like where I lived in Idaho,
- 15:25Speaker 1: I lived like on the main artery for a huge drainage,
- 15:29Speaker 1: and unless you were part of the maybe hundred people
- 15:33Speaker 1: that lived upstream of me, you had to drive past
- 15:38Speaker 1: my place. And no matter how tired, wet, cold, whatever,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I got in, what terrible condition I had put myself
- 15:48Speaker 1: in the night before. If I heard a vehicle go
- 15:51Speaker 1: up that road at four am, there was like there
- 15:54Speaker 1: was no sleep to where you're going.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, ye yeah, his deer, his elk.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I've noticed that.
- 16:00Speaker 6: Man.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I know you probably want to move on, But I've
- 16:03Speaker 3: developed this problem where it no matter who I see,
- 16:06Speaker 3: I could be doing the most esoteric, weirdest thing in
- 16:08Speaker 3: the weirdest thing in the world. If I see in
- 16:10Speaker 3: our car, I have in my head that they're doing
- 16:12Speaker 3: what I'm doing. Meaning if we're like mushroom hunting and
- 16:15Speaker 3: I see a car pulled over, some of the bitches
- 16:17Speaker 3: mushroom hunting, you'll be like, is he though, or like
- 16:21Speaker 3: anything if we're if we're setting beaver traps, I see
- 16:23Speaker 3: a truck some of the bitches beaver trap, I'm like, oh, no,
- 16:27Speaker 3: he's just like dude walking the dog. Yeah, but my
- 16:29Speaker 3: head immediately puts it that we have the same motivation.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Sure makes you want it real bad.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and then and all and realistically, in all the
- 16:39Speaker 3: years I've hunted morels outside of hunting burns, because burns
- 16:43Speaker 3: everybody knows about it. And all the years i've hunted morells,
- 16:46Speaker 3: I have one time been hunting moreles and actually encountered
- 16:50Speaker 3: a morell hunter one time in my entire life.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Do you verbalize that fear to your kids when you
- 16:55Speaker 2: guys are out looking for mushrooms, like, oh, these evil
- 16:58Speaker 2: people who just pulled over?
- 17:00Speaker 4: No?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Yeah, no I do. I just because I'm trying to
- 17:02Speaker 3: train him to be paranoid about morel's. You know, last weekend,
- 17:05Speaker 3: that's good.
- 17:07Speaker 1: My buddy kid is chomping at the bit to go
- 17:09Speaker 1: on a big hike for mule deer, and I was like, great,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I'm your guy. Let's go clear it with his dad.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And I'm like, hey, there's we're driving down to this
- 17:23Speaker 1: spot that he wants to go to. I'm like, hey,
- 17:25Speaker 1: there's a seventy percent chance that there's going to be
- 17:28Speaker 1: another truck at this trailhead. If that's the case, do
- 17:33Speaker 1: you want to go check out this other spot or
- 17:34Speaker 1: this other spot? Like you got to be thinking about that,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and and he's like, yeah, I think there's going to
- 17:40Speaker 1: be somebody there too, but let's go check it out.
- 17:43Speaker 1: So we drive in there, and sure enough, there's one
- 17:45Speaker 1: truck at this trailhead and there's quite a bit of
- 17:48Speaker 1: country there. But I was like, I don't really want
- 17:52Speaker 1: to go. I'm like, but it's up to you. I
- 17:55Speaker 1: wasn't even carrying a gun. And he's like, no, I
- 18:00Speaker 1: I think I think we should still go. I was like, okay,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I was a little uncomfortable with it, but I'm like,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know, this is your hunt. I'm just in support.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And we go hiking in there, and uh, not too
- 18:14Speaker 1: far in there, come around the corner and I glass
- 18:16Speaker 1: up this guy and we had just talked about how
- 18:19Speaker 1: we were going to hike because I'm like, now you
- 18:20Speaker 1: got to account for this other other truck. We don't
- 18:23Speaker 1: know where they are. The Wind's going like this, but
- 18:27Speaker 1: this is really hard. This isn't as hard. Chances are
- 18:31Speaker 1: this person went up to not hard way, so maybe
- 18:33Speaker 1: we should go up the hard way. Stuff like that.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And I glass over and this dude's dressing out a
- 18:39Speaker 1: deer and I'm like, I'm like, well, perfect, And then
- 18:43Speaker 1: I start looking and I'm like, oh, that's a big
- 18:46Speaker 1: horn sheet.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Oh that was the guy.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so I was like, and that's what I
- 18:51Speaker 1: was like. Oh my gosh, I felt so bad about
- 18:53Speaker 1: being next to another truck. I feel so much better now, congratulations.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I wasn't doing what you were now looking for sheep.
- 19:00Speaker 2: That day, someone in the chat is suggesting that we
- 19:04Speaker 2: take beta blockers to get rid of it.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I've heard of that.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I don't want him.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know. I'm not always looking
- 19:10Speaker 3: for I'm just looking for reasons and not take drugs.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, different points in our lives. Yeah, give me more
- 19:22Speaker 2: of it.
- 19:23Speaker 1: That's how filter turns in those killer performances. Blockers. Yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 1: it's just well, the whole theater thing. It's all about
- 19:30Speaker 1: your uppers and down they are. They are.
- 19:32Speaker 5: I've never part partaken, partook, but they are a thing.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Maybe I'm betraying a confidence. But our first live tour
- 19:40Speaker 2: Chester took some because he wasn't loving how.
- 19:42Speaker 3: He'd get up there get whole verses.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, like like two shows into the tour. Uh, he
- 19:49Speaker 2: just got some beta blockers and that was what he
- 19:52Speaker 2: wrote those the rest of the tour.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Stage God, rock and roll.
- 19:56Speaker 3: I mean, if they were like let's say you're if
- 19:58Speaker 3: they were so instant, you know what it'd be like,
- 20:00Speaker 3: you'd tie off with some surgical tune me and have
- 20:04Speaker 3: like a needle and ship and then you look and
- 20:05Speaker 3: here comes down the trail. If you can just like
- 20:08Speaker 3: mainline and just like instant bait bla. But what are
- 20:11Speaker 3: you supposed to do every day? Pop on at like
- 20:14Speaker 3: three pm?
- 20:15Speaker 2: That's just down opener. Yeah you know, I mean.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's just part of my process.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Got ivy bag hang.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah, your ozone machine or your iv that's right.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, all right. We're gonna move on with the
- 20:37Speaker 2: show to our first interview. Joining us on the line
- 20:40Speaker 2: now is Sean Conrad. Him and his twin brother Adam
- 20:43Speaker 2: have caught fourteen world record fish. Sean, Welcome to the show.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Is that possible?
- 20:48Speaker 2: We're gonna find out how we going, Sean, you currently
- 20:52Speaker 2: hold the world record for rainbow trout and burbot. No,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I want to hear both those fishing stories. But first
- 20:57Speaker 2: let's start with the burbot world record. You said on
- 21:00Speaker 2: March twenty seventh, twenty ten. Take us back to that day.
- 21:05Speaker 6: Well, it actually started two months beforehand, where actually a
- 21:09Speaker 6: guy caught and released that same fish and didn't realize
- 21:14Speaker 6: it was a world record. So once Adam and I
- 21:18Speaker 6: saw that he had weighed just under twenty five pounds sake,
- 21:20Speaker 6: I think he thought the world record was twenty eight.
- 21:23Speaker 6: So obviously, my brother and I every weekend I lived
- 21:26Speaker 6: in Alberta, I would travel to Saskatchewan every weekend I
- 21:30Speaker 6: could until we caught that fish.
- 21:32Speaker 3: You guys were targeting at like you're targeting a specific fish.
- 21:35Speaker 6: Yes, because it had like certain marks on it wasn't
- 21:39Speaker 6: a certain area. We had probably caught over a hundred
- 21:42Speaker 6: berbot in about a month and a half and then
- 21:45Speaker 6: slept in my truck on the twenty sixth and woke
- 21:48Speaker 6: up at eight in the morning and went back fishing
- 21:51Speaker 6: and caught him at ten o'clock in the morning.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Wow, what secrets can you tell us about catching that fish.
- 21:57Speaker 2: As far as bait you were using, it is you
- 22:00Speaker 2: were targeting stuff like that.
- 22:03Speaker 6: We usually target them in like drop offs and uh
- 22:06Speaker 6: and holes, but we used bait on bottom Cisco's Harrying smelts,
- 22:12Speaker 6: whatever you have at the time, and you literally just
- 22:16Speaker 6: bait and wait for those fish. And we tried, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 6: we would try like four or five different areas, and
- 22:22Speaker 6: we actually caught that fish in an area that we
- 22:26Speaker 6: never really started burbot fishing then, and now that's one
- 22:28Speaker 6: of our favorite spots.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Do you set are you setting tip ups or rod?
- 22:33Speaker 6: And real, well, this was actually open water, in flowing
- 22:37Speaker 6: water in a river in March.
- 22:39Speaker 2: See okay, yeah, Sean, Do you get any kind of
- 22:41Speaker 2: buck fever when you're reeling in one of these giant
- 22:44Speaker 2: fish that may or may not be the next world record.
- 22:48Speaker 6: I remember hooking that fish and I had thrown my
- 22:52Speaker 6: rod out and I was eating a salad when you
- 22:55Speaker 6: catch a fish, and my rod just kept bouncing like
- 22:59Speaker 6: in the current, and I'm like, why is it bouncing?
- 23:01Speaker 6: Why is it not stopping? And that fish must have
- 23:04Speaker 6: ate it on the drop or when it's just got there.
- 23:06Speaker 6: And then I knew when I was really and I
- 23:08Speaker 6: saw it. It it got me pretty nervous. I knew
- 23:11Speaker 6: I had the world record on and got in the
- 23:14Speaker 6: net and I just had a big sigh of relief.
- 23:16Speaker 6: And actually the guy that had caught that fish two
- 23:18Speaker 6: months ago was on shore and he asked me how
- 23:21Speaker 6: it wasn't, like, well, we got we got the fish
- 23:23Speaker 6: we were after. And he's like, no, way, that is
- 23:27Speaker 6: amazing a fishing or fishing in a boat. This was
- 23:32Speaker 6: this picture was taken on a bank, but we were
- 23:34Speaker 6: in a boat.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay, we're looking at a picture of that
- 23:37Speaker 2: world record right now.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Now.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I noticed that all of your burbot records are from March.
- 23:43Speaker 2: What is it about that month that makes burbot fishing
- 23:45Speaker 2: so good?
- 23:47Speaker 6: March is when they start to spawn. They're at their
- 23:50Speaker 6: fattest with the eggs. If you can get those fish
- 23:53Speaker 6: before they spawn out, they're the heaviest they'll ever be,
- 23:57Speaker 6: and they start congregating in March. In certain areas, you'll
- 24:01Speaker 6: get ninety percent of the fish in like a five
- 24:04Speaker 6: percent area of the lake, and then you could just
- 24:07Speaker 6: target and catch quite a bit more, and you just
- 24:09Speaker 6: keep weed throwing them until you get your big one.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Do you guys eat burbot?
- 24:14Speaker 6: Yes, delicious. The five to ten pounders are our favorite.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Got it?
- 24:20Speaker 6: You just get You don't get as much meat as
- 24:22Speaker 6: you would off a walleye, but you get the backstraps,
- 24:25Speaker 6: tail meat. If they're big enough, you can take the
- 24:26Speaker 6: belly meat.
- 24:27Speaker 1: So yeah, I do that. Belly meat's pretty fantastic. You
- 24:30Speaker 1: fry that stuff.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Yeah, cuts cut it in strips, kind of like calamari.
- 24:35Speaker 6: It's it's firm and you get cook in any way
- 24:38Speaker 6: you like. It's delicious.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Do you get any bycatch when you're targeting these giant burbot?
- 24:43Speaker 6: Yes, walleye, white fish and rainbows.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Can I ask you bird? I got a burbot question
- 24:50Speaker 3: for you. Might love to just ask a question.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Go for it here.
- 24:54Speaker 3: My birthday is on February thirteenth. Yes, okay, So we
- 24:58Speaker 3: go to For a few years on my birthday we
- 25:02Speaker 3: would go set tip ups through the ice for burbot.
- 25:06Speaker 3: One year on my birthday we go out. I can't
- 25:08Speaker 3: wit we catch twenty four burbot. A big group of people.
- 25:10Speaker 3: We catch twenty four burbot. Yeah. Next year February thirteen zero.
- 25:16Speaker 3: The next year February thirteen zero, fishing the same stuff.
- 25:20Speaker 3: What is your take on that. This is a big resermee.
- 25:23Speaker 6: So usually burbot will spawn in different areas of the lake,
- 25:26Speaker 6: and every year is a bit different. And actually some
- 25:30Speaker 6: years it's actually tough for us to target them in
- 25:35Speaker 6: March because they're all they all moved.
- 25:37Speaker 3: So they're all somewhere and not where you are.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Yeah, you got to find them. And that's Adam and I.
- 25:43Speaker 6: We guide and we have to be on fish and
- 25:46Speaker 6: we have to consistently move. We noticed that if we
- 25:49Speaker 6: fish a spot one day, the next day it's not good,
- 25:53Speaker 6: so we have to consistently move. So I feel like
- 25:55Speaker 6: in your situation.
- 25:57Speaker 3: We were fishing for last year's fish man.
- 25:59Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's the same thing. And you're you're always
- 26:02Speaker 6: fishing the same numbers, where Adam and I were always learning,
- 26:05Speaker 6: always moving.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yep, advice, I feel like that's what happened. You also
- 26:10Speaker 2: have the world record rainbow trout that you caught on
- 26:13Speaker 2: September fifth, two thousand and nine. Tell us about that catch.
- 26:17Speaker 6: The uh wrong picture I lived in. That's a big
- 26:20Speaker 6: brown for a little bit, but uh.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Come on, get the right fish up there. Man, he's
- 26:29Speaker 3: got his head thinking about.
- 26:30Speaker 1: You're just trying to make friends with this guy.
- 26:33Speaker 3: We wrongfish.
- 26:34Speaker 2: We're gushing over other big fish pictures that Sean has.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Phil is going to go back to picture two and
- 26:39Speaker 2: that will be the record. There. Go ahead, Sean, tell
- 26:42Speaker 2: us about that fish.
- 26:43Speaker 6: I I just quit work Friday. I took my daughter
- 26:48Speaker 6: believe she was two or three, and drove to my parents'
- 26:52Speaker 6: house in Saskatoon. Got her to sleep around eight thirty,
- 26:56Speaker 6: and then I took off around nine. We fish at
- 26:59Speaker 6: dark for these rainbows. Met my brother and we fished.
- 27:02Speaker 6: We caught, you know, we were trolling. We caught a big,
- 27:05Speaker 6: like eight pound walleye. We had caught like an eight
- 27:07Speaker 6: pound rainbow before that. And then noon or midnight came
- 27:12Speaker 6: minnek in. Then we caught. I hooked this big fish,
- 27:15Speaker 6: and I know it was big because the big ones
- 27:17Speaker 6: they just they start rolling behind the boat and then
- 27:20Speaker 6: you just can't move them, so you just hold the
- 27:23Speaker 6: hold the line tight and uh yeah, like netted it.
- 27:26Speaker 6: We're just like, well, we better weigh this thing because
- 27:29Speaker 6: we are filling our biggest net up with this fish.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Wow, the world record burbot you knew was in those waters?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Did you know the next world record rainbow was swimming
- 27:38Speaker 2: there as well.
- 27:39Speaker 6: No, we were guiding hard in two thousand and nine
- 27:42Speaker 6: or eight before we caught this fish. We stopped guiding.
- 27:44Speaker 6: We had caught that year, I think three other or
- 27:48Speaker 6: four other forty pound rainbow was that rail too. That
- 27:52Speaker 6: was the year of the giants two thousand and nine,
- 27:55Speaker 6: and then we just went out after guiding with we
- 27:59Speaker 6: were done, and yeah, we knew there was giants that year,
- 28:02Speaker 6: so we just fished hard, and yeah, it broke my
- 28:05Speaker 6: brother's world record.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Now ten of these world records have been line class
- 28:10Speaker 2: world records. Explain what that means to folks who aren't
- 28:13Speaker 2: familiar with the International Game Fish Association record keeping.
- 28:17Speaker 6: So IGFA has different world records. The first world record
- 28:20Speaker 6: Adam and I broke. We had caught a thirty three
- 28:23Speaker 6: pound rainbow on twelve pound I believe it was twelve
- 28:26Speaker 6: pound test. And we knew that there were different world records.
- 28:30Speaker 6: So if you caught a fish that was you know,
- 28:32Speaker 6: let's let's say thirty pounds on six pound tests, you
- 28:35Speaker 6: could look up to see if that is the heaviest
- 28:40Speaker 6: fish of that species on a certain line, so and
- 28:43Speaker 6: then you can register. But I believe you have to
- 28:45Speaker 6: be a member to do that, just to see what
- 28:47Speaker 6: they have for weights in line and so there's different
- 28:50Speaker 6: types of world records. There's line classes and then there's
- 28:52Speaker 6: all tackles. So our first one was a thirty three
- 28:55Speaker 6: pound line class world record.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yeah, do you have any all tackle records?
- 29:00Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the rainbow and the bourbon.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Oh, those are all tach he has both of those.
- 29:03Speaker 6: Those are like the biggest in the world ever recorded.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Man, are there any other dudes?
- 29:09Speaker 1: Uh?
- 29:11Speaker 3: Where do you sit in terms of in fresh water
- 29:14Speaker 3: at least? Like are there a lot of dudes that
- 29:17Speaker 3: have a handful? Like do you know what I mean?
- 29:19Speaker 3: Is it like the kind of thing when there's certain
- 29:20Speaker 3: guys that are filling that slot again and again.
- 29:24Speaker 6: Adam and I our goal was to get every line
- 29:27Speaker 6: class world record rainbow, So we would specifically spool our lines.
- 29:32Speaker 6: I think it was called Pea line. We would buy
- 29:34Speaker 6: Pea line and we would buy like twelve pound and
- 29:37Speaker 6: we would just pool that rod and real twelve pound
- 29:41Speaker 6: Pea line Because then when you do catch a line
- 29:43Speaker 6: class world record, you've got to send your line in
- 29:46Speaker 6: for break testing, and if it breaks higher, then you're
- 29:49Speaker 6: bumped into a different category.
- 29:51Speaker 3: I feel like maximum is that way.
- 29:53Speaker 6: Yeah, so we have to buy SPC and we have
- 29:55Speaker 6: to buy a specific waste scale, and then we had
- 29:57Speaker 6: to get the fish weight properly if it was a
- 30:00Speaker 6: world record, take it in and get certified with a
- 30:03Speaker 6: biologists and stuff. So there's a there's a bit to it.
- 30:06Speaker 3: God, you guys make me feel like I've wasted my life.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Dude, you and you put.
- 30:11Speaker 1: The professional right there.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Man. Yeah, you and your brother have broken each other's records.
- 30:17Speaker 2: When that happens, are you happy for each other or
- 30:19Speaker 2: is it really competitive for you too?
- 30:22Speaker 4: No?
- 30:22Speaker 6: We love to bump questions off each other and techniques
- 30:27Speaker 6: and we're always learning. If we go to a lake
- 30:30Speaker 6: and we get skunked, why did we get skunked? What?
- 30:33Speaker 6: What did we do wrong? How should we change our techniques?
- 30:36Speaker 6: What should we do different? What area is a like?
- 30:38Speaker 6: Time of day? It's just like deer hunting. When is
- 30:40Speaker 6: that buck coming out?
- 30:42Speaker 3: You know?
- 30:42Speaker 6: Is it coming out in the morning or evening? And
- 30:44Speaker 6: where is it? You got to you gotta learn and techniques.
- 30:47Speaker 6: So fishing is what Adam and I do. We bump
- 30:49Speaker 6: stuff off each other and then we learn. So we're
- 30:52Speaker 6: always we're not competitive when it comes to that.
- 30:54Speaker 1: But you do call your bro and be like, hey,
- 30:57Speaker 1: you know that we were really proud of its right,
- 31:03Speaker 1: stuff like that.
- 31:04Speaker 6: I think when I caught the burbot, I was Adam
- 31:09Speaker 6: was a little bit jealous because you know, I had
- 31:11Speaker 6: caught the rainbow and now I caught the burbot, and
- 31:13Speaker 6: then I caught a great big brown trout after that,
- 31:16Speaker 6: and he was like, why are you catching all the
- 31:17Speaker 6: big fish. I'm like, well, I don't know, I don't mind.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Are you married?
- 31:22Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I'm not.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Okay, no, my brother is what was going to be
- 31:26Speaker 2: your responsive? He said, yes, oh, just if his wife?
- 31:30Speaker 1: Are you talking trophy? Class of wife is no?
- 31:32Speaker 3: No, no, no, like if his wife if she if she
- 31:35Speaker 3: if she sees a big burbot, does she know enough
- 31:38Speaker 3: to know she's looking at a big burbot? Meaning if
- 31:41Speaker 3: we come home and show you know, we'll be We'll
- 31:43Speaker 3: come home and show my wife stuff. And she's like,
- 31:45Speaker 3: if you say so, it looks a lot like the
- 31:48Speaker 3: other ones, a lot like the other ones. You guys, brow.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Sean, all of your world record rainbows and burbot have
- 31:56Speaker 2: come from Lake Diefenbaker in Saskatchewan. What is it about
- 32:00Speaker 2: at water that allows it to produce such big fish?
- 32:04Speaker 6: For one, it's a damn the reservoir loaded with ciscos.
- 32:07Speaker 6: It's just they have so many ciscos in the lake,
- 32:10Speaker 6: so it's got good forage we catch. We caught a
- 32:14Speaker 6: forty inch burbot guiding last year and the up in
- 32:17Speaker 6: the lake. And when I say the lake, we're actually
- 32:19Speaker 6: targeting a lot of these world records down below the
- 32:22Speaker 6: dam where these ciscos come through the dam and they
- 32:26Speaker 6: get chopped up. So these fish are just chowing down
- 32:30Speaker 6: and they're getting huge.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Is that Is that true? I've read that before, But
- 32:33Speaker 3: is that true that fish coming through those turbans are
- 32:36Speaker 3: actually chopped up and not just shove through it.
- 32:40Speaker 6: Yes, it depends what turbine and where it is. But
- 32:44Speaker 6: the ones we're seeing are getting chopped up, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 6: and then they just sink down and then.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Just coming out like chum. Yeah, you know.
- 32:53Speaker 6: And then just these fish just gets so big they
- 32:56Speaker 6: get to world record size.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Give some advice, I to listeners who want to target
- 33:01Speaker 2: really really big rainbows and burbots, like you do your.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Research, honestly, it's honest the same as deer hunting. You
- 33:09Speaker 6: have to know what lake produces big fish. Adam and
- 33:13Speaker 6: I we would see an article of a big fish
- 33:16Speaker 6: being caught. It was Montana. I think a thirty thirty
- 33:19Speaker 6: three pound rainbow was caught there Lake Cootin. Yeah, Cooton
- 33:23Speaker 6: River sold it down there, and Adam and I went
- 33:25Speaker 6: and we caught a thirty three inch rainbow like our
- 33:28Speaker 6: first time. It was like almost near twenty pounds. You know,
- 33:32Speaker 6: so certain systems produce big fish. So do your research
- 33:37Speaker 6: and then figure out your techniques and learn, Yeah.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Do you have a white whale? Is there a world
- 33:43Speaker 2: record that you're pursuing right now?
- 33:46Speaker 6: I was targeting the actual another world record bourbo. I
- 33:51Speaker 6: was trying to break it and I had caught I
- 33:53Speaker 6: was doing on video and I caught a twenty two
- 33:55Speaker 6: pound or two years ago. It was three pounds under
- 33:58Speaker 6: my world record bourbot. And this was that she and
- 34:00Speaker 6: Alberta like that was producing some giant burbot. So as
- 34:05Speaker 6: for targeting world record, I think it's the brown trout
- 34:09Speaker 6: because we're right now, Adam and I are actually targeting
- 34:13Speaker 6: a world record brown trout, and it's they're tough, but
- 34:16Speaker 6: we see some brown trout that are rising that are
- 34:19Speaker 6: in that thirty plus to forty pound range.
- 34:23Speaker 2: When you break that record, you come back on this
- 34:25Speaker 2: show and tell us that story.
- 34:27Speaker 6: Yeah brown trout.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Now, Sean, you want to know my claim to fame
- 34:32Speaker 1: up in that country.
- 34:34Speaker 6: Yeah, tell me.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I got offered a bartending job there in Riverhurst one year.
- 34:39Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that's where we guide out of around there.
- 34:42Speaker 2: They kind of offer those jobs.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Everyone that it comes through the door gets a bartending jobs.
- 34:47Speaker 1: A sketch one, but yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Kel cal braggs about getting uh brags about getting offered
- 34:54Speaker 3: bartending jobs.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I was a hit with the locals. We used
- 34:58Speaker 1: to go up there and and and hunt ducks every year,
- 35:01Speaker 1: got some friends that live in town and had a
- 35:04Speaker 1: place to crash. It was everything you needed when you
- 35:06Speaker 1: had little bird dogs to run with.
- 35:08Speaker 3: So yeah, one last question. All right, let's just say
- 35:12Speaker 3: a fella is just looking out, you know, just to
- 35:14Speaker 3: catch fla sized berb it. Yeah through the ice? Do
- 35:18Speaker 3: you like? Are you laying like? Let me tell you
- 35:22Speaker 3: what we do and you tell me where I'm wrong.
- 35:23Speaker 3: We run tip ups with braid down to a floral leader,
- 35:28Speaker 3: a small treble in cut bait, laying on the bottom,
- 35:33Speaker 3: where do you not like? What do you not like?
- 35:36Speaker 6: That's perfect and then fish into the night. And then
- 35:39Speaker 6: your second line you would be hitting bottom, pounding bottom
- 35:43Speaker 6: with some kind of a glow glow tube with bait. Okay, yeah,
- 35:47Speaker 6: and lay it on bottom. Now find your depth to
- 35:50Speaker 6: put your tip up and I would say fifteen to
- 35:54Speaker 6: twenty feet and maybe set up your shack in about
- 35:57Speaker 6: twenty five feet in February. And then and also if
- 36:00Speaker 6: you're not catching, then go deeper, go up to go
- 36:03Speaker 6: to twenty thirty five feet to forty feet those bourb
- 36:06Speaker 6: it will be all over the place, so interesting and
- 36:08Speaker 6: then awful lake. Yeah, go ahead.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Sorry, you like the tubes, huh.
- 36:14Speaker 6: Yeah, tube jigs work, yeah, absolutely, we love tubes. But
- 36:19Speaker 6: also you know, we'll use heavier, heavier jigs with heavier heads,
- 36:25Speaker 6: maybe that glow. And then you put your bait on
- 36:28Speaker 6: there and you really want to hit bottom hard. You
- 36:30Speaker 6: want that thump, you know, and just consistently do that,
- 36:33Speaker 6: and it's kind of like just like bringing them in
- 36:36Speaker 6: making noise down there on the bottom. It just seems
- 36:38Speaker 6: to work.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Cool.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Sean last thaying, tell folks about the guiding service that
- 36:42Speaker 2: you and your brother own.
- 36:44Speaker 6: We're fishing geeks here. We guide Lake Diefenbaker. We've been
- 36:48Speaker 6: guiding full time since twenty eighteen, part time since two
- 36:52Speaker 6: thousand and eight. So and this is our job. Just
- 36:55Speaker 6: take take people out fishing and hopefully catch them the
- 36:57Speaker 6: fish of their dreams.
- 36:59Speaker 2: You guys have quite the hasn't made to convince folks
- 37:01Speaker 2: to fish?
- 37:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, man, thanks for coming on, appreciate the information.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Thanks, good luck with your world record brown trout.
- 37:08Speaker 6: We'll try.
- 37:10Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:11Speaker 2: To be clear, he has caught the biggest rainbow and
- 37:14Speaker 2: the biggest burbot in the world. Those are two of
- 37:16Speaker 2: his fourteen records. The other twelve are the line class
- 37:19Speaker 2: records we talked about.
- 37:20Speaker 3: To be frank with you, I respect that burbot one
- 37:22Speaker 3: but more Oh hell yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Well that thing was so baddy cool.
- 37:27Speaker 3: That looks like something you drug out of a cave
- 37:29Speaker 3: in the ocean. Man.
- 37:32Speaker 2: All right, let's take a break for some list of feedback. Phil,
- 37:34Speaker 2: what's the chat have to say?
- 37:36Speaker 5: Yeah, let's see here. Well, back we were talking about
- 37:39Speaker 5: Randall taking time off and Corn as well. Nick is
- 37:41Speaker 5: asking do you meet either employees need to take PTO
- 37:44Speaker 5: to go hunt or is that just a perk of
- 37:46Speaker 5: the job.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Well, yeah, Bill, what do you do when you when
- 37:51Speaker 2: you go hunt, you.
- 37:52Speaker 5: Taket or of course I'm a company man. I let
- 37:54Speaker 5: my manager know, and she in turn lets her manager know,
- 37:57Speaker 5: and uh, you know the eye across the ts.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so just took a little PTO.
- 38:03Speaker 5: Oh yeah, but that was to go to Portland just
- 38:05Speaker 5: to hang out. I didn't do any hunting.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Now, I just noticed you had a little PTO thing
- 38:08Speaker 3: on your email.
- 38:09Speaker 1: There no cue paying attention.
- 38:11Speaker 2: We do some stuff like a normal office. We block
- 38:14Speaker 2: off our calendars, we write emails, tell folks we're going
- 38:17Speaker 2: to be out of the office hunting. So yeah, it happens.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh can you take that leopard shark one?
- 38:22Speaker 5: That was gonna be my next one? Here he goes
- 38:23Speaker 5: from will question for the crew. I just got back
- 38:25Speaker 5: from diving in California. Saw a bunch of leopard sharks.
- 38:28Speaker 5: I read that they are good eating. Have any of
- 38:30Speaker 5: you harvested shark with a spear? Is it good eating?
- 38:32Speaker 6: Oh?
- 38:33Speaker 3: Spear?
- 38:33Speaker 6: No?
- 38:34Speaker 3: Roden real yes, and man, you gotta trim them sharks anything.
- 38:42Speaker 3: You gotta trim the fat off. You gotta trim the
- 38:45Speaker 3: you know, the the purple tell I'm trying to say,
- 38:48Speaker 3: bloodline type, bloodline stuff. There's a layer that sits between
- 38:51Speaker 3: the meat and the skin. If you trim it up,
- 38:55Speaker 3: it's good. If you don't trim it up, you are
- 38:56Speaker 3: in for a bad meal. He's spilled a bunch wrong.
- 38:59Speaker 1: But I've had a lot of shark fresh shark that
- 39:03Speaker 1: I think is fantastic eating. But yeah, oh, you.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Gotta trim it. You gotta trim it as bad as
- 39:08Speaker 3: you gotta trim a flathead catfish. It is good whatever,
- 39:13Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. Yeah, this is as essential.
- 39:17Speaker 2: What else Scott film?
- 39:18Speaker 5: This is from Leland? Howdy? Is there any idea of
- 39:20Speaker 5: doing a meat eater history book on the French coups
- 39:23Speaker 5: de bois or the voyageurs. I don't know if you've
- 39:26Speaker 5: looked into that for that French stuff for your history,
- 39:28Speaker 5: Steve at all. Is that peak your interest?
- 39:30Speaker 3: I think that we will maybe, I think that we
- 39:33Speaker 3: will get to that with our American history series. Yes, great,
- 39:37Speaker 3: even though it's Canadian history. So that's what makes it
- 39:39Speaker 3: a little bit tricky that it makes a little bit tricky.
- 39:42Speaker 3: In every one of the series, we talk about what's
- 39:44Speaker 3: going on north of the border, and we throw to
- 39:47Speaker 3: those guys in both The Mountainmen and the Hide Hunters,
- 39:54Speaker 3: but never dove in. But when I was a little
- 39:57Speaker 3: boy growing up in Michigan, you would study those guys.
- 40:00Speaker 3: They would teach you that stuff in Michigan history.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Oh yeah, this is Oh, this is another one from Will.
- 40:07Speaker 5: I have found that when I am on long long
- 40:08Speaker 5: hikes or hunts, I almost always get a song stuck
- 40:10Speaker 5: in my head, usually rambal On by Zeppelin. How do
- 40:13Speaker 5: you guys pass the time mentally on long hikes? What's
- 40:16Speaker 5: running through the noodle?
- 40:18Speaker 2: We talked about this briefly. Esjay Randall said that he
- 40:21Speaker 2: just he really hates himself, so when he spends time alone,
- 40:26Speaker 2: you know, he just sits there thinking about the things
- 40:28Speaker 2: he doesn't like about Randall. That's what I'm answering for Randall. There,
- 40:32Speaker 2: I think about what I do like about Randow.
- 40:35Speaker 3: That's how I passed.
- 40:36Speaker 2: That's what I'll think about this week.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I think songs are great. I definitely do some singing
- 40:41Speaker 1: to myself and by proxy whoever's around me. I packed
- 40:48Speaker 1: out a full mule deer boned out mule deer up
- 40:53Speaker 1: a very very steep slope and just found like I
- 40:58Speaker 1: was never ever going to get the top of the
- 41:00Speaker 1: ridge if I stopped, because stopping can kind of become
- 41:04Speaker 1: an addiction where you're like, well, I'm gonna get up
- 41:06Speaker 1: to here and stop. I'm gonna get up to here
- 41:07Speaker 1: and stop. And so I made up like a very
- 41:13Speaker 1: all theatrical song, one man play phil of getting the
- 41:18Speaker 1: buck to the top of the mountain. Oh, it was
- 41:21Speaker 1: basically like, how do you get a buck to the
- 41:24Speaker 1: top of a ma ton? And then you can kind
- 41:27Speaker 1: of any other version.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I'm going to use that.
- 41:33Speaker 1: This is from or Mogor.
- 41:34Speaker 5: I also I saw your message earlier about sending us
- 41:37Speaker 5: your address for those cookbooks you won last week. Don't worry,
- 41:39Speaker 5: mog Or, we will get you your cookbooks. I'll make
- 41:41Speaker 5: sure that somebody saw that email. But your question is
- 41:44Speaker 5: for cal how much will your new CEO role at
- 41:47Speaker 5: BHA affect your appearances on the shows? I hope you
- 41:50Speaker 5: still drop in from time to time.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's the plan. I obviously this is
- 41:55Speaker 1: like a huge challenge and it's new, and I have
- 41:58Speaker 1: a giant learning curve so time is going to be
- 42:00Speaker 1: a factor, but no one, no intent to drop off
- 42:06Speaker 1: the face of the world, the meat Eater world over here.
- 42:09Speaker 1: And I'll still be weekly host on the podcast too, So.
- 42:15Speaker 3: I would like to I'll touch on next. I would
- 42:17Speaker 3: like to be able to be Cal's uh you know.
- 42:20Speaker 3: I would like to be able to be a great
- 42:22Speaker 3: place for Cal to come tell folks what what he's
- 42:26Speaker 3: doing in his new role and what his priorities aren't
- 42:28Speaker 3: his new role, so invitation stands. So if he doesn't
- 42:31Speaker 3: come out, it's not my fault.
- 42:33Speaker 5: Phil's clear sure this from Friday Arrows. Phil, When will
- 42:37Speaker 5: we get an animated version of your Dungeons and Dragons episode?
- 42:40Speaker 5: That's a great question. That would be a dream. I
- 42:42Speaker 5: don't know if if Steve, you're your your American history
- 42:45Speaker 5: guy will also work on the D and D episode
- 42:48Speaker 5: that I did. But I love someone who can capture
- 42:50Speaker 5: just the look of bewilderment on Cal's face at every turn,
- 42:53Speaker 5: or maybe Brody decapitating the cat with a sword. That
- 42:56Speaker 5: would be fun.
- 42:57Speaker 2: So Steve has to decide, so that'd be great.
- 43:00Speaker 5: See, I don't think you're aware that I that I
- 43:02Speaker 5: I guest hosted trivia and instead of playing a game
- 43:04Speaker 5: of trivia, I played a game of Dungeons and Dragons
- 43:07Speaker 5: with the crew.
- 43:09Speaker 3: I've heard about that, but I don't know what that means.
- 43:12Speaker 5: You can watch it at some point or door, don't
- 43:14Speaker 5: you know. It's up to you.
- 43:15Speaker 2: All right. Our next segment pretty it crushed on YouTube
- 43:20Speaker 2: like our best trivia of the year.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I think it's congratulations.
- 43:23Speaker 5: It was fun.
- 43:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Our next segment is brought to you by Case Knives,
- 43:29Speaker 2: handcrafting high quality knives since eighteen eighty nine. Check them
- 43:32Speaker 2: out at case knives dot com. All right, this is
- 43:35Speaker 2: the price is right.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Here.
- 43:39Speaker 5: It comes from Bozeman, Montana Media Radio's most exciting ten minutes.
- 43:44Speaker 3: It's The Prices Run. Steve Ranilla, come.
- 43:49Speaker 2: On down, first time on the show.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Ryan Callahan, come on down. You're the next two contestants
- 43:56Speaker 5: on Media Radios The Prices Run. Okay, now here's your host,
- 44:01Speaker 5: Spencer new.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Right.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Oh that's great.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Did you watch that documentary about that show?
- 44:08Speaker 4: No?
- 44:08Speaker 5: I didn't even know there was one.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Uh yes, I did.
- 44:11Speaker 6: Well.
- 44:11Speaker 3: The guys that gamed it, yes, but.
- 44:13Speaker 2: By gaming just like knew the answer.
- 44:16Speaker 3: No, they gained it by like like a sort of
- 44:22Speaker 3: memorization experts who got into who got into these like
- 44:26Speaker 3: catalogs of MSRP pricing. Yeah, and we're able to commit
- 44:30Speaker 3: thousands and thousands and thousands of prices to.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's like some trends in there too. And yeah,
- 44:36Speaker 1: that that was But yeah, I think that the beef
- 44:39Speaker 1: was like, you guys are ruining the show by being
- 44:42Speaker 1: too good.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Yeah, by memorizing it all point being they get in there,
- 44:47Speaker 3: that they when all the people are waiting in line
- 44:49Speaker 3: to come in. This kind of surprised me. They have
- 44:51Speaker 3: these sort of profilers. Yeah, they go outside and just
- 44:55Speaker 3: hang around the line and they're just watching how people
- 45:00Speaker 3: interact conversations. They kind of get some interactions going and
- 45:04Speaker 3: they're just in their head going like he'd be good. Sure,
- 45:07Speaker 3: he wouldn't be good, he'd be good, he wouldn't be good.
- 45:10Speaker 3: And they knew how to get selected. Yeah, they would.
- 45:12Speaker 3: They would dress in a certain way to be noticed
- 45:16Speaker 3: but not noticed in the wrong way, and they would
- 45:18Speaker 3: like they knew who they were looking for to engage with.
- 45:21Speaker 2: But then I think they had to, like they knew
- 45:23Speaker 2: those people, they had to those people had to start
- 45:26Speaker 2: bringing guests who they hoped would get picked, and then
- 45:29Speaker 2: the like real brains, the operation was in the audience
- 45:32Speaker 2: somewhere giving clues by and you know.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Because you know, the audience can yell.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Yes the Dollar died.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Well he would look and there's this guy going Dollar
- 45:46Speaker 3: Toy died.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you're talking about picking those people out of the
- 45:53Speaker 2: document famous.
- 45:54Speaker 1: He became famous in the audience, and so people would
- 45:57Speaker 1: be like, let's see what yes, Bill has to say?
- 46:00Speaker 2: What you hope you're playing on a day when Bill
- 46:02Speaker 2: is there?
- 46:02Speaker 3: Yeah, what's the documentary called?
- 46:04Speaker 5: Well, I told you I haven't seen it.
- 46:06Speaker 2: There was some real sad part of that documentary though,
- 46:08Speaker 2: where Bob Barker just looked older.
- 46:10Speaker 5: It's called Earth Perfect Bid The Contestant who Knew Too Much.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I think we all know it because it was
- 46:18Speaker 1: featured on Delta Delta.
- 46:20Speaker 2: So that's you were talking about picking people out of
- 46:24Speaker 2: the line. A very proud vain moment for me was
- 46:27Speaker 2: my wife and I were in New York City. We
- 46:28Speaker 2: went to a taping of Stephen Colbert in twenty eighteen,
- 46:32Speaker 2: and when you're coming in, they just like have ushers
- 46:35Speaker 2: that seat you somewhere and if you're you know, the
- 46:38Speaker 2: attractive couple, they'll put you up front. And so they
- 46:41Speaker 2: pulled us from the back and put us at the front. Yeah,
- 46:45Speaker 2: so we could be seen in the audience and like.
- 46:47Speaker 3: People would feel like they're watching the right show exactly.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just like setting the mood for the show.
- 46:53Speaker 3: If that attractive man likes the show, then I must
- 46:56Speaker 3: be on the good right thing.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Yeah, exact kids club.
- 47:00Speaker 2: All right, cal Steve, grab your whiteboards. This game is
- 47:02Speaker 2: real simple. Phil is going to tell you about a
- 47:04Speaker 2: product from the meat Eater universe and you need to
- 47:07Speaker 2: guess its price. The player with the closest answer without
- 47:10Speaker 2: going over will be declared the winner. If both players
- 47:14Speaker 2: go over, then you'll both be told to try again,
- 47:17Speaker 2: and the chat should play along as well, because whoever
- 47:19Speaker 2: has the closest answer to the correct answer, we'll get
- 47:22Speaker 2: a shout out from Phil. All right, there are three
- 47:24Speaker 2: products up for bid today, Phil get us started.
- 47:29Speaker 5: Well, our first item up for bid today is the
- 47:31Speaker 5: Hunter's Specialties butt Out two.
- 47:33Speaker 3: I know that tool.
- 47:33Speaker 5: Now, we know you're probably saying to yourself, but self,
- 47:36Speaker 5: the betout one was perfect.
- 47:38Speaker 3: What could they possibly improve on?
- 47:39Speaker 5: Well, the betout too has an extra two inches of
- 47:41Speaker 5: handle that creates the patented butt stop to give you
- 47:44Speaker 5: better grip and control of the tool. It's never been
- 47:47Speaker 5: easier to remove the anal canal of a white tail, antelope, bear,
- 47:50Speaker 5: or hog. And Hunter Specialty says it's made out of
- 47:52Speaker 5: sturdy plastic that can withstand repeated use, so you can
- 47:55Speaker 5: hand this heirloom down to the next generation of deer gutters.
- 47:58Speaker 2: That's what Steve is planning to deal.
- 48:00Speaker 3: We'll show you a thing or two or you don't
- 48:01Speaker 3: need that thing now.
- 48:02Speaker 2: On Amazon it has four point seven stars from over
- 48:05Speaker 2: four thousand reviews. Phil is showing his pictures of the
- 48:08Speaker 2: butt Out two right there, and here's the butt Out one.
- 48:11Speaker 2: You can see where they change the design to give
- 48:14Speaker 2: you that special butt stop with a little extra plask.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Can you show me the butt stop again?
- 48:20Speaker 2: Okay, this is butt Out one that you're looking at,
- 48:22Speaker 2: and we'll get a butt Out two in a second.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Sure, that's your big improvement for butt Out two.
- 48:28Speaker 3: And we're trying to figure out what that butt Out
- 48:30Speaker 3: two is going to run.
- 48:30Speaker 2: What does that cost? And if you go over, you're
- 48:33Speaker 2: just out of the game. Almost both of you go over.
- 48:36Speaker 2: So Stephen cow will come up their price. Now, I
- 48:39Speaker 2: can't even fathom what they'll do for butt out three.
- 48:41Speaker 2: What could they possibly come up with next?
- 48:45Speaker 3: A real sharp knife?
- 48:49Speaker 1: I like how on the description it's like, here's these
- 48:51Speaker 1: animals they could work with, and it's like or anything.
- 48:55Speaker 2: With it does say any big game sized animal. Yeah,
- 48:59Speaker 2: it's is pretty vague. Now this is the price from
- 49:02Speaker 2: Hunter Specialties.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Oh man, you got you can't do that because all
- 49:05Speaker 3: kinds of dudes are putting down what they think it is.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Yeah, they're paying along as well. Yeah, it's just what
- 49:10Speaker 2: we trust that you're honest, and you.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Are he wrote mine. Okay, Cal, go ahead.
- 49:15Speaker 2: And reveal your answers. We have Cal saying twenty two
- 49:19Speaker 2: to ninety nine and Steve says twelve dollars. The correct
- 49:24Speaker 2: answer is lower than both of those, so we're both
- 49:27Speaker 2: going to try again come up with a new price.
- 49:30Speaker 2: It is less than twelve dollars. Steve's guest was twelve.
- 49:34Speaker 2: We know it's less than that. Both of you come
- 49:36Speaker 2: up with the new answer and try.
- 49:38Speaker 3: That's stupid. Why who's close?
- 49:40Speaker 2: We're playing the prices, right? You got to argue with
- 49:43Speaker 2: the prices.
- 49:44Speaker 3: Just because someone does something dumb doesn't need you two.
- 49:46Speaker 2: All right, we have Steve, who now says eleven dollars
- 49:49Speaker 2: and Cal says six ninety nine. The correct answer is
- 49:55Speaker 2: eleven dollars and ninety nine cents. Steve was only a
- 49:58Speaker 2: penny off his first guest.
- 50:00Speaker 3: But these are.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Prices, right rules, Steve, So you were you were one.
- 50:04Speaker 3: I don't Yeah, I wouldn't pay any attention what they do.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I will tell you though, Steve, Steve deserves little accolades here.
- 50:10Speaker 1: That's the first I think that is the first price
- 50:14Speaker 1: is right answer. I've been wrong on.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Cal is dominant at this game, Steve. Just so you
- 50:19Speaker 2: know you're going up against you know, the Michael Jordan
- 50:22Speaker 2: of Meat Eaters Price.
- 50:23Speaker 3: I had a conversation Cal was or not cal Clay
- 50:26Speaker 3: was shaming me about this about what Clay was shaming
- 50:28Speaker 3: me about. Not knowing the eggs had gone up in price.
- 50:32Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't if I go to buy eggs,
- 50:35Speaker 3: I'm just gonna get the eggs. Jemmy, I don't go like,
- 50:38Speaker 3: am I gonna buy eggs or not? Like when I
- 50:40Speaker 3: wake up and I say to my little body, we're
- 50:41Speaker 3: going for breakfast eggs, I'm just gonna buy eggs. So
- 50:44Speaker 3: I don't go and see, it's just not gonna matter.
- 50:48Speaker 3: I'm still gonna buy the.
- 50:51Speaker 5: Weather topic on the during the last this is before that.
- 50:54Speaker 5: It was okay, this is before.
- 50:57Speaker 2: That, so eleven ninety nine. That is from Hunter Special website.
- 51:00Speaker 3: So I needed this butt remover. You can probably be like,
- 51:03Speaker 3: I'm just gonna get the butt remove.
- 51:05Speaker 2: It is on sale at Shields right now for seven
- 51:08Speaker 2: ninety nine. So if you're in the market for a
- 51:10Speaker 2: butt out, to check out Shields.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Yeah, and we have a handful of people, guess right
- 51:14Speaker 5: on the money. We've run into that problem before, Steve.
- 51:19Speaker 5: I've called people out and they've been very defensive about
- 51:21Speaker 5: how they are.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Yeah, guilty, Nate, JH and gone fishing Duncan.
- 51:27Speaker 5: Maybe maybe a few more too, but those are the
- 51:29Speaker 5: ones I saw.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Suspicious. All right, Phil, What have we got next? Oh?
- 51:32Speaker 5: Great question. Our next item up forbid is your very
- 51:37Speaker 5: own colony of taxidermy Beetles.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Wow.

- 52:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I've got a bookmarked, so what that was.
- 52:17Speaker 3: A great That was a great That was a great call.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 52:20Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I have no no clue.
- 52:22Speaker 2: You're getting two thousand bugs and they guarantee a mix
- 52:26Speaker 2: of adults, larva and PUPA wow in that two thousand

- 52:33Speaker 2: In three to four weeks, you're going to be cleaning
- 52:35Speaker 2: your first skull.
- 52:36Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And this is a flat shipping rate. It's just convenient
- 52:40Speaker 2: that is coming from Deer Lodge, but their website says
- 52:43Speaker 2: it's cost the same fear shipping to Georgia.
- 52:46Speaker 3: I don't like all these guys writing numbers down on
- 52:48Speaker 3: that thing.
- 52:48Speaker 2: You've already locked in your answer, I Suppish says, keep
- 52:51Speaker 2: to themselves. Cal, are you ready reveal your answers? Cal
- 52:55Speaker 2: says it's forty one dollars. Steve says it's one hundred
- 52:59Speaker 2: and twenty dollars. That's a rag dancer, Yeah it is.
- 53:03Speaker 2: It's two hundred and forty six dollars and fifty cents.
- 53:07Speaker 2: So Steve was the closest and he was only half
- 53:08Speaker 2: away there.
- 53:10Speaker 3: See, how do you how do you put a price
- 53:11Speaker 3: on that?
- 53:13Speaker 2: I mean, these folks did what they did.
- 53:15Speaker 3: But picture like what he's got to have going on
- 53:18Speaker 3: to be able to have that. You know what I'm saying,
- 53:20Speaker 3: that's a lot. That's something I could never guess because
- 53:23Speaker 3: like the amount of headache, and that might just be
- 53:25Speaker 3: a side hustle, like they're probably you know, they're cleaning,
- 53:28Speaker 3: that's right, and they got access and I don't know,
- 53:30Speaker 3: it's probably name your price because there's probably not much competition.
- 53:33Speaker 2: That's two hundred and thirty dollars for the Beatles and
- 53:35Speaker 2: sixteen dollars and fifty cents for shipping, and that's.
- 53:39Speaker 5: A great Friday Friday Arrows Guest two thirty in the.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Chat well done, Friday Arrows. Steve has now officially won
- 53:46Speaker 2: the game. But we'll see if you can't get the
- 53:47Speaker 2: clean sweep. We've got such a product, so we'll see
- 53:50Speaker 2: if you can get the clean sweep and make Cal
- 53:52Speaker 2: run around the building naked as is tradition. Phil, what's
- 53:56Speaker 2: the third item.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Lucky employees?
- 53:58Speaker 5: Our final item up for bid today is a sign
- 54:00Speaker 5: photo of Stephen Vanella. This eight by ten photo of
- 54:03Speaker 5: a handsome young Stephen is for sale on eBay.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Right, you remember that, I do? But how does he
- 54:09Speaker 3: have that?
- 54:10Speaker 5: He's standing on a stump staring.
- 54:11Speaker 3: Into the magazine Men's Journal. It's probably Cal's bow with
- 54:17Speaker 3: his hand. That's had no idea, obviously, Steve, actually my signature.
- 54:23Speaker 5: Well, let's see here. The seller guarantees it's the real
- 54:26Speaker 5: deal because the signature has been verified by Beckett Authentication Services.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Just smudge does that much?
- 54:33Speaker 2: Does that look like your signature?
- 54:37Speaker 1: Have that picture?
- 54:38Speaker 2: It's just someone on you gotta have this. We put
- 54:41Speaker 2: Steven a real pickle here, making him guess what his
- 54:44Speaker 2: autographed is hot.
- 54:45Speaker 1: They found they brought out like kids, medium black T
- 54:52Speaker 1: shirts for the shoot.
- 54:54Speaker 4: I was like.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Without his belly button getting exposed it was brutal and.
- 54:59Speaker 2: St on a stump. That's that's a nice little touch.
- 55:02Speaker 2: When was this photo taken?
- 55:04Speaker 5: We got a lot of jokers in the chat guessing
- 55:05Speaker 5: stuff like five cents one dollar.
- 55:08Speaker 3: That's what I wrote down.
- 55:10Speaker 1: If somebody put it on e Bay.
- 55:13Speaker 3: That's right.
- 55:13Speaker 2: This is for sale on eBay right now, so if
- 55:16Speaker 2: you like the price. When we revealed weekend.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Cal's dog passed away.
- 55:21Speaker 1: No, no, no, this wasn't the big fish was Uh,
- 55:25Speaker 1: your oldest boy was just a baby. I mean he was.
- 55:31Speaker 3: Under at the same time.
- 55:33Speaker 2: How many years ago?
- 55:34Speaker 1: Was a long time ago, But I was I was
- 55:39Speaker 1: entertaining and Steve's kid, uh by letting him shoot arrows
- 55:43Speaker 1: up into the sky, I'd hold onto the bow. Oh,
- 55:47Speaker 1: and he'd crank that back and let it go.
- 55:51Speaker 2: That very safe activity. Would I pick this item? I
- 55:55Speaker 2: had no idea. That was cow. No, I have not
- 55:58Speaker 2: bought it. I bet by this episod's over. That thing's
- 56:01Speaker 2: off eBay. Someone's purchasing calcul I'll send you one. Do
- 56:06Speaker 2: you have a price, Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Cal says fifty dollars. Steve says one dollar. The correct
- 56:13Speaker 2: answer is eighty five dollars. Eighty five dollars that could
- 56:18Speaker 2: be yours. It's free shipping or best offer, it says.
- 56:22Speaker 2: So if you're in the market first time, Steve, maybe
- 56:25Speaker 2: try to lowball him before you pay for We had a.
- 56:27Speaker 5: Couple of people get it right on the money, but
- 56:29Speaker 5: Garrett got in pretty quickly and he guessed eighty four
- 56:32Speaker 5: ninety nine. I think he's being true, truthful. But then
- 56:35Speaker 5: we had Big Dough pot pipe in and says eighty
- 56:37Speaker 5: five dollars.
- 56:38Speaker 2: I just bought it. Well done, Big Dough. I'm gonna
- 56:42Speaker 2: verify that. I'm gonna go look on at you ban
- 56:44Speaker 2: and see if that's still for sale.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Yeah, if you bought it, I'll send him another one.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Now, this seller has all kinds of autographed photos up
- 56:50Speaker 2: for sale. I found some comparisons. If you're interested, Steve,
- 56:54Speaker 2: so the first one here, If you've got sixty five
- 56:57Speaker 2: dollars to spend, you can buy a signed picture of
- 56:59Speaker 2: playble bunny Sierra Price.
- 57:02Speaker 3: What was it? Blurret out, Well.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Because it's kind of scandalous. It's a playboy bunny whose
- 57:06Speaker 2: photo you're buying.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Nobody's asking whether or not the signature is real.
- 57:10Speaker 2: I notice, uh, huh. So that's that's if you got
- 57:12Speaker 2: sixty five dollars. If you got eighty five dollars, you
- 57:15Speaker 2: can buy a signed picture of Caine Hodter, who of
- 57:18Speaker 2: course played Jason Vorhees from the Friday the Thirteenth movie.
- 57:21Speaker 2: So that's the same price as Steve's signature. Now, if
- 57:25Speaker 2: you've got real deep pockets, you're looking to spend one
- 57:26Speaker 2: hundred and fifteen dollars, you can buy an autograph photo
- 57:29Speaker 2: of rock and roll Hall of Famer Don McLean, who
- 57:32Speaker 2: wrote the world's greatest song, American Pie. So twenty dollars
- 57:36Speaker 2: more than your autograph, Steve, Don McLean.
- 57:39Speaker 3: Yeah, what is the objective here?
- 57:43Speaker 2: Just one, which is fun. Let's all this is where
- 57:47Speaker 2: you ran your celebrity is between Playboy Bunny and Don Matillia.
- 57:51Speaker 5: That's a pretty good place.
- 57:52Speaker 3: To Actually, someone's like, how famous I'd take exactly? How
- 57:58Speaker 3: let's go to eBay heard of I'm not quite the
- 58:01Speaker 3: guy American Pye, but but I do trump some playboy buns.
- 58:08Speaker 2: That's right, Steve wins. Anyway, he got his two points.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Well done, Steve. All right, let's do our final interview
- 58:16Speaker 2: of the day. Joining us on the line. Last is
- 58:18Speaker 2: Steve Powell, the co owner of North American Diving Dogs. Steve,
- 58:23Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
- 58:25Speaker 4: Are we doing, guys?
- 58:27Speaker 2: For folks who aren't familiar, what is doc diving?
- 58:31Speaker 4: Doc diving is as simple as its dog running down
- 58:34Speaker 4: at jumping into a pool.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Okay, and no weird rules? Are there any weird rules?
- 58:41Speaker 2: Or is it just simple where they throw the bumper
- 58:43Speaker 2: and the dog jumps as far as they can.
- 58:46Speaker 4: It's pretty much that simple.
- 58:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 58:49Speaker 4: You got a dog that loves to chase a toy
- 58:51Speaker 4: and loves water. It's that easy.
- 58:52Speaker 5: Hey, Steve, really quick, can we get you a little
- 58:54Speaker 5: bit closer to your computer? Please? Thank you so much.
- 58:57Speaker 4: I'll just move in we go.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Steve, walk us through and what the best breeds are
- 59:01Speaker 2: for dock diving.
- 59:03Speaker 4: Well, you guys are hunters, so obviously one would be
- 59:06Speaker 4: any kind of retriever, your labs, your short hairs, things
- 59:11Speaker 4: like that, wire hair pointers. Then you have your sport dogs,
- 59:15Speaker 4: your malonoise, you got whippets, pretty much any dog of
- 59:19Speaker 4: any size, they just need to be driving.
- 59:22Speaker 2: And describe us like the perfect dock diving dog in
- 59:25Speaker 2: terms of personality, age, sex.
- 59:29Speaker 4: If you have a dog that is psychotic, and you
- 59:32Speaker 4: don't want any part of dealing with it. Most of
- 59:35Speaker 4: the time, that's probably your best bet because they'll just
- 59:39Speaker 4: do whatever you want them to do and they'll give
- 59:40Speaker 4: a thousand percent.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Okay, good to know. Is there a dock diving goat
- 59:44Speaker 2: the greatest of all time when it comes to jump
- 59:47Speaker 2: in a long ways in water?
- 59:49Speaker 4: There absolutely is. She lives in Washington. Dog's name is Sounders.
- 59:53Speaker 4: It's a whippet. Holds the world record at thirty six
- 59:56Speaker 4: feet eleven inches.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Whoa what makes Sounders so good?
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: Sounders as fast? Sounders is athletic and he just wants
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: that toy.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Okay? How did this become so popular and and go
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: from being an obscure sport to being on ESPN?
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: So the things I've heard is that somebody was out
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: with their dog. It was jumping off the dock at
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: the lake, and somebody thought, you know, I can probably
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: get a group of people together and we can try
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: to make that happen and make the company out of it.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: With competition, you know how people are They wanted my
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: dog can beat your dog, you guys hunt My buck
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: is bigger than your buck. My fish is bigger, right,
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: So it's just a way to make make it more competitive.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Huh, okay, cal, how would Snort perform at these competitions?
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: Not?
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Well, she's a little bit too much of a thinker.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: The the cutest story I have about this though, because
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I went to a Ducks Unlimited banquet here in Bozeman
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: met this little old lady who told me the reason
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: she was there. She's not a hunter. Her dogs and
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: doc jumping competitions. I said, well, how'd that happen? And
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: she's like, my husband just passed away. He had this
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: black lab that was totally his dog. Doesn't like me
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: at all, doesn't pay attention to me, doesn't listen to me.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: And I was riddled with Gil about getting rid of
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the dog. And there was a doc jumping competition that
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: had like open enrollment some and so she just did it.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: And now her and the dog travel all over doing
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: the competitions and they love each other perfect. It's amazing, Steve.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Do hunting dogs ever show up at your competitions?
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: Oh yeah, lots of times. We have tons of hunting
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: dogs that they come and they're just I mean, it's
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: their thing, right. They either they do hunting trials, they
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: duck hunt, They pheasant hunt. They liked chase of Bumper
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: And the biggest thing is that the guys will bring
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: it or their wives, like in the story just told
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: they just want to do something with the dog and
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: they're like, oh, my dog loves water. So there's numerous yes.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: And if cal wants to get into doc diving, what
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: should he do?
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: So North America Diving Dogs we have close to ninety
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: facilities across the US and in Canada. We have eight
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: mobile docks that set up at AKC shows and we
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: put on and do try its, which is a thing. Otherwise,
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: facilities are a good place to learn and to train,
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: and then they also have events.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: And how do people watch your competitions?
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: So when we're doing events at shows or at facilities,
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: I would say probably ninety five percent of the time
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: public's welcome and there's no charge. We also we are
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: teamed up with AKC and AKCTV. We get usually two
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: events here that they film and then those can be
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: seen on ESPN or ESPN two.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Good stuff, very entertaining.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: I got a question about a quick question about the
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: cognitive ability of dogs. We used to have a labrador
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: that love She would jump off the end of the
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: dock like that, and it was one of the problems
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: if you were out swimming, she would then swim over
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: and scratch you to all hell, thinking she was somehow
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: going to climb on you somehow. But like I think,
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: I thought about, let's say you had a dock and
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: you do that all the time and then one night
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: the lake freezes. It would be very interesting, do you
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: follow me. It would be very interesting to see if
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: to test or see if the dog, like how the
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: dog comprehends that. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: Well, one, I was afraid the dog wouldn't get hurt
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: if it did do it. But the other thing is
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: you're calling out like a lake in a pond, is
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: that there is a difference to the dogs. If you
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: got a dog that jumps at the lake a thousand
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: percent has zero issues with it. It'll do it all
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: day long.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: Huh uh.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: You bring them to clear water, which we have in
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: the pools, and it'll it'll throw them off.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Oh is that right? They got like a certain environment
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: they like, yeah.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: I had a gentleman that came to my facility and
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: he had a hunting title dog and he was like,
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: this is gonna be no problem, and he expected his
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: dog was just going to go in. He spent twenty
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: five minutes with his dog just sitting on the platform,
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: just going, what are you expecting from me? It had
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: no idea.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Do you ever find that there's dogs that like it
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: so much that they do it in the absence of
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: the toy?
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Absolutely. We have actually a few dogs that yeah, they'll
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: bring them up on the dock and uh, they'll go
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: go and the dog just jumps.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Jumping. Oh.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: The worst part is they opened the gate to let
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: him on the dock and the dog runs and jumps in. Luckily,
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: we have it called the practice so they can take
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: a practice jump and when they see that happening, they're
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: like practice.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Yeah, really, well that's fun, Steve, Kelly, get anything else?
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: No, that's it.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Oh, that's great.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Thank you for joining us, Steve, and thanks for entertaining
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: us with those wet dogs.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: Not a problem, guys, thank you for having me.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: That brings us to the end of this week's show, Phil,
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: let's do some final feedback from the chat.
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: Sure, Steve, you wanted to talk about this question from Evan.
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: Will a skunk spray when shot with a bower rifle.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well right, and like the guys using injectors now,
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: like damage control guys. They use these like long hole,
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: these long poles, and they have an injector. They can
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: inject it so it doesn't spray. But the thing it
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: used to be that if you if you can jab stick, yeah,
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: if you could hit it in the heart, well the
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: twenty two it'd have about a fifty percent chance of spraying.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: But then I calculated that you got about a fifty
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: percent chance of hitting it in the heart, so the.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Twenty percent chance.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: But yeah, man, they they'll cut loose.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: Lance showed up late. Did Spencer cover his hunt? Yes,
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: Lance could and rewind about an hour and you'll hear
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: all about it. We had one just kind of related
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: to buck fever, and I am oh, here he goes
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: is from William Any advice with target panic. I've never
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: had a problem with white tailor hogs with my bow,
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: but started hunting public land Emulei's in New Mexico and
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: can't seem to calm myself after drawing on them.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, as you're hunting a bigger, cooler animal,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: So I get it. Don't believe in target panic. At all,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: don't listen to those people, don't be around those people.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: If that causes a divorce or something like that, that
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: that's better for you in the long run.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: You know, Kenyon has that. I'm sure a lot of
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: guys do, but Kenyon has Mark. Kenyon has this little
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: mantra he goes through, like a three step mantra, but
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: you have to practice hard on it, like I've toyed
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: with it. But he's got like a boom boom boom
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: every time he shoots an arrow, boom boom boom, like
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: a mental checklist. I think if you could actually get
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: that to be wrote, I feel that that would be
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: and I don't do it, sure, but when you explain
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: it to me, I'm like, that seems like a good idea.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Though I haven't tried it, but it feels like a
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: great idea to me.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: I think a lot of guys as like beyond just
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: the mental thing will switch their style of release. So
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: if you whatever kind of style you're shooting right now,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: if you just cannot beat target panic, try a different one,
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: and really that'll do it for you.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: If target panic were to exist. But it doesn't, so yeah,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: it is like it's it's like a cult of people
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: who are like they feed off of each other. So
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: get away from those people. Get in front of a
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: big target and practice your your shot. And I do
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: this with with my recurve or long bow. Now, if
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I'm having a hard time hitting the spot on the
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: target that I want to hit, I'll walk up to
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: ten yards and and practice shooting with my eyes closed,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: where all I'm doing is concentrating on the release of
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: that arrow. And as long as my arrow isn't hitting
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: in a totally funky way, I know that everything's good
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: with the bow. And it's just me and it's just
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: a practice thing. Don't get sucked down the rabbit hole.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Don't don't believe it.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Bill.
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: Let's do a couple more cool It's from Spencer Flip
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: for the people who are getting their their Christmas gifts
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: early and responsibly. Any new holiday gift ideas on the
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: Meat Eater website or first Light. You guys have any
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: sort of like stocking stuffer Old trucks Man, Yeah, the
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: new calendar.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: It's an easy, easy stocking stuffer for you.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: You got to roll it up. I mean there's put
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: in the stock.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: There's so much good there's like fun stuff and there's
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: very practical stuff. It's a great stop on the on
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: the list.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Everybody could use a first light based layer. Doesn't matter
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: like what stock.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: But he didn't say stocking. Why are we talking about stockings?
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: I'm not sorry, I got the stocking stuffer.
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Was me doing some editorialized it's nice thing about the calendar.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: I don't mean to oversell this here, but if you
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: roll it up put it in the stocking, it's then
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: gonna expand and actually firm up and make a nice
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: firm cylinder that you then put all kinds of other
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: stuff into.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Yeah, kind of like a shell, like a mid layer
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: for your stocking.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Next week is no, We're two weeks away from Black Friday,
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Spencer flip, so hold out on your holiday shopping until then. Maybe.
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: We got Logan asking about he loves eating northern pike.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: He's asking for the best way to cook or pickle them.
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: If you guys have any go tos.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: Pickling them, you're you're gonna get rid of all those
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: nasty y bones in there.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: So that's it is the thing. If you get a
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: pike now and then it is the thing to do
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: with pike in my view, it's so good and just
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: takes all the hassle. Yes, I also like to chunk, like,
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: just flay it, leave the pin bones in, cube it
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: up and food process it into a I mean, for
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: lack of a better word, I guess you could call
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: the moose. You could call the paste and then make
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: fish cakes and you don't know the bones are there. Yeah.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Old Garrett Smith's dad he runs it through the
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: grinder a couple of times until he has has a paste.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Yeah. You could pack it like a snowball. I'm like, yes,
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: and you can just do fried fried balls. Put good
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: stuff to eat in there, bread crumb, egg put all
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: that good stuff to eat in their season. And then
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: when you then make a little patty or a little ball,
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: roll that and panco And if you do the panicle,
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: then fry it very gently. It's got a crispy outside,
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: a smooth soft middle. It's very very tasty.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Pickling or fish cakes. You're not gonna have to worry
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: about all those y bones. Let's do one more, Phil.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: Sure, we've had multiple questions about this. It's a hot,
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: hot commodity. What's the hat that caw is wearing? Called
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: again from kleb Col's.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Hat stocking stuff first light stormy chromer.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: That's right. But then you're stocking.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, great, great lid. Once the weather turns cold, it's
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: not on all the timer. Tell you that, all right?
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: You know it's funny. Can I tell you something real quick,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: my little my little boy, we're gonna name him something different,
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: can you tell us? Yeah, we're gonna name him my
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: wife's maiden name, Finch. So we before he was born,
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: we ordered him up his stocking. Oh, but then we
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: changed our minds.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: Wow, what a little easter egg.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: And so his stocking still doesn't have his name on it. Oh.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: Our dogs even got one with But it's got the
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: right name of his stocking is not his name. It's
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: so funny, dude, he's ten years old, same stocking.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: It's good. As soon as we stop recording here, I'm
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: driving to you going deer hunting? No next week?
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Holy what are you going hunting for? Well?
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: As soon as I tag out in Nebraska their season
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: opens on Saturday, I am shooting up to South Dakota.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: I have a deer tag there as well.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: So is this a draw tag guy over here?
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Real rich for certain parts of the state I had
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: to draw to get a mule deer tag.
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, is that what you have?
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I have a mule deer tag. Cool, And in South
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: Dakota I have an any deer tag, which I also
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: had to draw. So I'm out of here for the
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: next there's going to be swimming in buck fever.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, Well after killing that big Montana mule.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: Deer, I'm ready.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: I hope you don't get anything. Oh no, I'm kidding.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: All right, We'll see you guys back here next week,
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: same time and place by now
