- 0:00Speaker 1: Craig Way is my name, joined by the producer Cameron Parker.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us. We're with you up
- 0:04Speaker 1: till five o'clock.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Among the items we'll be covering in this hour more
- 0:08Speaker 2: in the college football Playoff. After the webinar that I
- 0:14Speaker 2: was able to log into and listen to the executive
- 0:18Speaker 2: director of the College Football Playoff, Rich Clark, him talk
- 0:22Speaker 2: about it, and more's the point, so you'll know and
- 0:26Speaker 2: we'll talk about some of the things he talked about
- 0:27Speaker 2: on that. But Rich Clark will join us on the
- 0:31Speaker 2: show tomorrow afternoon, so he'll be on with us in
- 0:34Speaker 2: the four o'clock hour, and I think you'll find some
- 0:36Speaker 2: things pretty interesting about this college football Playoff, this brand
- 0:40Speaker 2: new world that the game is entering, which includes twelve
- 0:45Speaker 2: teams of course expanded to that, so we'll hear some
- 0:48Speaker 2: more on that coming up. Also more from Long Run's
- 0:52Speaker 2: head coach Steve Sarkisian from the SEC Teleconference Texas.
- 0:56Speaker 1: On an open date, a bye week, that sort of thing.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Some used to refer to it, call it an off week.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Back Brown used to bristle at that. He would say,
- 1:06Speaker 2: it's not an off week. We're working. It's not an
- 1:10Speaker 2: off week. We're working. It's an open date on the schedule.
- 1:16Speaker 2: They're not playing, it's a bye week on the schedule,
- 1:19Speaker 2: that sort of thing. So but they're working, they're practicing,
- 1:25Speaker 2: and then they'll be turned loose for the weekend and
- 1:28Speaker 2: then get back after it.
- 1:29Speaker 1: When they get back on Monday.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It started to get ready for the Florida Gators who
- 1:32Speaker 2: played Georgia this week. You know, it used to be
- 1:35Speaker 2: called the world's largest outdoor cocktail party, and then the
- 1:39Speaker 2: people for the game on both sides said, we do
- 1:42Speaker 2: not want to be associated with that. It's kind of like, remember,
- 1:45Speaker 2: you know, it was so easy for everybody to say
- 1:48Speaker 2: red Ver a shootout. For the longest time, it was
- 1:50Speaker 2: red River Shootout, and then it became it was deemed
- 2:01Speaker 2: not appropriate to call it shootout, and so then it
- 2:05Speaker 2: went to red River Rivalry.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Then it went to Red River Showdown. Nobody really seemed
- 2:13Speaker 1: to like that much.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I used to always say, you should call it the
- 2:16Speaker 2: State Fair Street Fight, but that didn't catch on, so
- 2:20Speaker 2: it went back to red River Rivalry. And like I said,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and we all managed to pass through that vortex at
- 2:29Speaker 2: the first part of this month. I said, the key
- 2:32Speaker 2: to that is just say it slowly Red River rivalry.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Otherwise you elmer fudd it biably. So it's now just
- 2:41Speaker 2: Georgia and Florida meeting in Jacksonville. But they don't do
- 2:44Speaker 2: as we know, they don't do their tickets like Texas.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Oh you were half the stadium is burn orange the
- 2:52Speaker 2: northern end and then the southern end is Crimson red.
- 2:54Speaker 2: We know that they they're scattered. The fans are out
- 2:57Speaker 2: bi there. The tickets are equally distributed, but scattered through
- 3:00Speaker 2: all out as they play it. What's it called Cameron
- 3:02Speaker 2: EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville?
- 3:05Speaker 1: I think so yeah, okay.
- 3:09Speaker 2: So uh checking look at clean up from our number
- 3:12Speaker 2: one on the text line in talking about the story
- 3:17Speaker 2: about the two Yankee fans who pried open Mookie Bett's
- 3:21Speaker 2: glove while one arm pinned one One guy pinned his
- 3:23Speaker 2: arm to the wall. The other guy prized the ball
- 3:28Speaker 2: out of the glove. As a Dodger fan, I was
- 3:30Speaker 2: rather incensed watching it last night.
- 3:32Speaker 1: It was kind of a.
- 3:34Speaker 2: New York cooliganism. You hold him out folding kind of move.
- 3:38Speaker 2: They pulled the ball out. Those fans have been banned
- 3:41Speaker 2: for tonight. They're not allowed to come to the game tonight.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Somebody texting If I were them, I'd go. I'd do
- 3:47Speaker 2: like Bobby Valentine and go did and go in disguise.
- 3:51Speaker 2: May remember when Bobby Valentine was managing the Mets and
- 3:54Speaker 2: he got kicked out of the game and he sneaked
- 3:56Speaker 2: back in the dugout wearing the fake sunglasses and nose
- 4:00Speaker 2: and mustache.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Hey, you got cough of them.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And in this case, I don't think they'd be able
- 4:07Speaker 2: to because their tickets have been nullified. They were refunded,
- 4:10Speaker 2: but they were taken away from them, and I presume resold,
- 4:15Speaker 2: so they'd have to find another way into the ballpark.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And do that.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So anyway, they're not Somebody else about the story about
- 4:24Speaker 2: the pizza Rhea and Starlton, Wisconsin having to apologize for
- 4:30Speaker 2: some sixty pizza pies being loaded with THHC. And I
- 4:35Speaker 2: said it was a self fulfilling prop so people eat
- 4:37Speaker 2: it and it gives them more munchies, and they eat
- 4:39Speaker 2: more and they get more monchies. So they said more pizza.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So that's your cleanup from our number one. You can
- 4:46Speaker 2: always text the program. You're certainly welcome to do so.
- 4:51Speaker 2: By texting the word Texas followed by your question or
- 4:55Speaker 2: comment to eight one five three zero.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So you.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Text the word Texas followed by your question and comment
- 5:06Speaker 2: to eight one five three zero.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Standard messaging and data age may apply.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Okay, before we get to the break, this is something
- 5:15Speaker 2: we talked about, said, I used to love reading this.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It was a syndicated.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Syndicated column in sports sections across the country, and it
- 5:30Speaker 2: was started in the eighties, I think. And it was
- 5:34Speaker 2: called the Bottom Ten, and it's done with tongue firmly
- 5:40Speaker 2: in cheek, but it is intended to identify the ten
- 5:48Speaker 2: worst college football teams of the week. Of the week
- 5:52Speaker 2: is the way you describe it. So, and one of
- 5:58Speaker 2: the thing was they used to call all uh U
- 6:02Speaker 2: TEP instead of University of Texas l PASO. It was
- 6:06Speaker 2: called University of Texas of l intercepted passo. Well, well,
- 6:13Speaker 2: UTEP is in it. This thing has been reborn, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: it's none other than the very humorous Ryan McGee of ESPN,
- 6:19Speaker 2: who pens this column now. And he doesn't call them that,
- 6:23Speaker 2: he calls them something else because they're in the polls,
- 6:25Speaker 2: you might imagine. So it's here's the Bottom ten from
- 6:30Speaker 2: and I got a kick out of it reading it
- 6:33Speaker 2: this morning. So, uh, number one, Well, let's go from
- 6:38Speaker 2: number ten down to number one. We'll just do that.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Number ten is Florida State, which he has it is
- 6:48Speaker 2: Floria hyphen Duh State semi hyphen knows in os they're
- 6:55Speaker 2: one in seven so they made the and and by
- 6:58Speaker 2: the way, it doesn't necessarily mean if you're in the
- 7:00Speaker 2: bottom ten that you're one of the ten worst college
- 7:02Speaker 2: football teams in the country. What it means is the
- 7:05Speaker 2: course of the week, right, yeah, yeah, the week and
- 7:07Speaker 2: coming off it and where you are. Okay, So number
- 7:09Speaker 2: ten this week is Florida Duh State semi nos at
- 7:15Speaker 2: one and seven. After making the once mighty Miami rivalry
- 7:19Speaker 2: completely irrelevant. The Nose not Knowles the Nose welcome in
- 7:25Speaker 2: unc Aka, the historical geographic center of the ACC for
- 7:30Speaker 2: their latest round of Hey remember like ten minutes ago
- 7:33Speaker 2: when we kept hollering that they were too good for
- 7:36Speaker 2: y'all world tour. On the waiting list, he's got Troy
- 7:40Speaker 2: Bolton State AKA the team that almost beat Southern miss
- 7:45Speaker 2: per don't Kennesaw mountain landis state except kennessas state one. See,
- 7:51Speaker 2: so you mess instead of U mess fi not a
- 7:57Speaker 2: U fa not i you. Temple of Doom follow La
- 8:03Speaker 2: la la la la Tech who lost to Sam Houston
- 8:06Speaker 2: last night, didn't they nine to three. Cam Louisiana Tech,
- 8:10Speaker 2: coached by Sonny Covey, had a three to two halftime
- 8:13Speaker 2: lead in that game, three to two. They got a
- 8:15Speaker 2: three run homer on the top of the fourth. It
- 8:17Speaker 2: was three to two at the half, and then Sam
- 8:20Speaker 2: Houston scored a touchdown and held on and one nine
- 8:22Speaker 2: to three. Sam is seven to two. They're gonna go
- 8:25Speaker 2: to a bowl game this year anyway, he says. Akron
- 8:28Speaker 2: Ammonious is another one. So anyway, so there's there, all right,
- 8:33Speaker 2: Number ten Florida Duh State semi knows they're number ten,
- 8:38Speaker 2: Number nine, Minute Rice two and six?
- 8:42Speaker 1: What minute Rice Rice? What am I missing with minute Rice? Though?
- 8:45Speaker 1: Minute Rice is is oh yeah, ok, yeah, yeah, yes.
- 8:50Speaker 2: The O g Owls are the last ones remaining in
- 8:52Speaker 2: these rankings because Temple kennesaw an fa not i you
- 8:57Speaker 2: had the down the audacity to win footballs. The Ogs
- 9:01Speaker 2: arrive here because they were grounded by a former bottom
- 9:04Speaker 2: ten stalwart. The artists formerly known as you can't You can't,
- 9:10Speaker 2: You can't but let's not give Connecticut too many prompts.
- 9:14Speaker 2: If the Huskies had any real Husky guts, they would
- 9:17Speaker 2: schedule a last minute concept a contest with Kennesaw to
- 9:19Speaker 2: try to complete the four team hooter hoe down. All right,
- 9:24Speaker 2: Utah State is at Utaw. Speaking of pillow fights, he said,
- 9:30Speaker 2: we promised we'd let you know who beat Wyoming in
- 9:33Speaker 2: the latest edition of PFOW.
- 9:35Speaker 1: They here.
- 9:36Speaker 2: They are the other other Aggies who kicked a forty
- 9:38Speaker 2: yard field goal as time expired in Laramie. Now I
- 9:41Speaker 2: wish the concert for Carolina were happening this weekend.
- 9:44Speaker 1: That's the one where they're raising money.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Even the story, because I would have told Marty Smith
- 9:48Speaker 2: to tell Eric Churtz that as time expired in Laramie
- 9:51Speaker 2: definitely sounds.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Like a top forty country.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yet number seven I said he had utep in it.
- 9:58Speaker 1: He does.
- 9:58Speaker 2: He calls it you tippid, like intrepid, you tippid. The
- 10:04Speaker 2: Miners are back of these rankings because they lost a
- 10:07Speaker 2: waiting list pillow fight to follow La La La La
- 10:10Speaker 2: la tech. But this week they'll host the for real
- 10:13Speaker 2: pill of Fight of the week as they welcome their
- 10:15Speaker 2: classic and timeless long time natural and regional rival Middle
- 10:19Speaker 2: Tennessee State. Who's number six? It's Neville, Tennessee State. After
- 10:26Speaker 2: spending eight week eight doing what Liberty could not, the
- 10:29Speaker 2: Blue blw Blue Raiders when able to avoid the post
- 10:33Speaker 2: Kennesaus emotional letdown and lost to last year's version of
- 10:37Speaker 2: Kennesaus Jacksonville State. This weekend, I'll be at the George
- 10:40Speaker 2: of Florida game in Jacksonville, as I am every year,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and I always wonder whether perhaps some overserved dogs and
- 10:46Speaker 2: or Gator fans ever get lackadaisical with the GPS and
- 10:49Speaker 2: wind up in Jacksonville, Alabama's to the Jacksonville, Florida Number five.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Give me liberty, but also give me death because Liberty
- 10:57Speaker 2: lost that game to Kennesaw State. We're d Orwell who
- 11:00Speaker 2: said if liberty means anything at all, it means the
- 11:02Speaker 2: right to tell people what they do not want to hear. Well, Liberty,
- 11:05Speaker 2: I know you all play Wednesday night, so I know
- 11:08Speaker 2: you don't want to hear this. But when one blows
- 11:10Speaker 2: a shot at the coveted CFP spot to a winless
- 11:13Speaker 2: team than the coveted fifth spot, it is number four.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Is you ab like A and then B like a
- 11:22Speaker 1: bee that buzzes at UAB.
- 11:24Speaker 2: He said, on Friday, I flew over UAB Stadium and
- 11:26Speaker 2: right in to Tuscaloosa. On Saturday, edro by that same stadium,
- 11:29Speaker 2: moving even faster because I was trying to get Marty
- 11:31Speaker 2: Smith back to Charlotte in time. The host of concert
- 11:33Speaker 2: for Carolina, we spoted a long trail of smoke and
- 11:36Speaker 2: we're afraid that Protective stadium might be on fire, but
- 11:39Speaker 2: we realized that it was just coming from Trent Dilfer's ears
- 11:42Speaker 2: because they're not Oh.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Number four, why omean.
- 11:50Speaker 2: The Chowboys As he goes, I'm lost the Pillar Fight
- 11:52Speaker 2: of week nine to Yeah. Ever, we're going to make
- 11:54Speaker 2: you wait for that too, Like my neighbor makes kids
- 11:57Speaker 2: wait for the Halloween candy because his hearing age don't
- 11:59Speaker 2: work and it takes him forever to hear the bell
- 12:01Speaker 2: and finally get moving, kind of like Wyoming's offense. That's
- 12:05Speaker 2: number three, Number number two Southern missed Rule miss d.
- 12:11Speaker 2: The sun Belt Old Money Golden Eagles lost to Sun
- 12:14Speaker 2: Belt New Money James Madison as they continue their march
- 12:17Speaker 2: toward what is shaping up to be an all time
- 12:19Speaker 2: pill of Fight of the Year of the Center on
- 12:21Speaker 2: November thirtieth against.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Well, we're going to make you wait for that information.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Like Brett Farr makes Mississippi wait for him to pay
- 12:27Speaker 2: it back old new and relief money. And the number
- 12:30Speaker 2: one team the number one team in the bottom ten
- 12:35Speaker 2: this week, according to Ryan McGee of ESPN, is State
- 12:39Speaker 2: of Kent eight. The Golden Plated Flashes aka America's last
- 12:46Speaker 2: winless FBS team, lost their seventeen straight game, surrendering three
- 12:50Speaker 2: hundred and fifty eight rushing yards to Western Michigan. The
- 12:54Speaker 2: last time a bunch of Broadcoast students gained that much
- 12:58Speaker 2: ground was when Tim Allen and Terry Cruz got into
- 13:00Speaker 2: Bruce Campbell's Oldsmobile and took a road trip set to
- 13:04Speaker 2: the tunes of fellow WMU alum Luther Vandross.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Kent State's not good.
- 13:10Speaker 2: They're o to eight, the only on the only winless
- 13:14Speaker 2: Division one FPS team left. All right, up next, we're
- 13:18Speaker 2: gonna talk about teams who are achieving well and that
- 13:21Speaker 2: would be uh, those who have a shot at the
- 13:25Speaker 2: college football playoff. That's next on Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 13:28Speaker 2: under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app
