• 0:55
Speaker 1: It should be tapering down out there.
• 0:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, still kind of chilly, Kind of like a dampness in the air.
• 1:02
  Speaker 1: It's a tweener right now.
• 1:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, going from bad weather to good, so we have to have that little tween time.
• 1:08
Speaker 1: I wouldn't call it good, just okay.
• 1:09
Speaker 1: Well, it's supposed to be nice this afternoon.
• 1:11
  Speaker 1: That's what they're saying.
• 1:12
Speaker 1: Well it's supposed to be.
• 1:13
Speaker 1: It ain't got there yet.
• 1:14
  Speaker 1: I just looked.
• 1:15
Speaker 1: John Venson is joining us.
• 1:17
Speaker 1: John, a pleasant Saturday morning to you, sir.
• 1:19
Speaker 1: Hello, john, good morning.
• 1:21
Speaker 1: Hey, it's great to see you again.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: Thanks for getting up and putting up with us.
• 1:27
Speaker 4: Fortunately it's not too early here on the West Coast, so we're good, okay, good.
• 1:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, we were talking to a friend of ours.
• 1:36
Speaker 1: He was out at Pomona with the hot rod show that's going on out there at the fairgrounds.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: Maybe you guys could all get together, but you're kind of on a different kind of level than he is with the hot rods, because you're talking about new cars and best cars for the money awards by US News and I can't wait to get into this.
• 2:03
Speaker 1: Where do we want to start?
• 2:05
Speaker 4: Well, let's just start a little bit about what these awards are all about.
• 2:08
Speaker 4: You know, we kind of follow the rule at US News that you cannot buy, you cannot get a good deal unless you're getting a good car.
• 2:16
Speaker 4: So our best cars for the money awards.
• 2:19
Speaker 4: They honor cars and trucks and SUVs that might not be the cheapest to buy initially, but over the first five years they're going to be the cheapest to own.
• 2:30
Speaker 4: So we look at our scores, we look at transaction data from TrueCar, we look at five-year cost of ownership data from Vincentric and come up with 11 award winners across the industry.
• 2:45
Speaker 4: That should give you, you know, years and years of low cost, trouble, free service.
• 2:51
Speaker 1: That's good, when I mean, did you see in this Now you've done this in years past, I assume yeah, yeah and did you see a pattern from year to year with certain makes of cars where you know one make actually stood out and if it's number one.
• 3:11
Speaker 1: If it's number one, just hold off on that and let's start at the bottom of the list.
• 3:17
Speaker 4: Okay, so all of these cars came from three brands.
• 3:20
Speaker 4: Let's start at the bottom of the list.
• 3:22
Speaker 4: Three row SUV, Kia Telluride.
• 3:27
  Speaker 1: Kia Telluride.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: You know, I've had one in the press fleet and I will tell you that I liked it a lot and I was skeptical at first, and I'm sure that your research has probably actually said the same thing.
• 3:46
Speaker 1: You know, it's like the Kia Telluride really, but then after you drive it you go wait a minute, this is really a nice car, and then all of a sudden everybody else starts picking up on it and you see a lot of them out there now.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: So apparently we kind of had a hunch that this might be a success for them.
• 4:06
Speaker 4: It's been a great success for them.
• 4:07
Speaker 4: It's been out for you know a few years now and they still can't meet demand.
• 4:12
Speaker 1: It's still going great, yeah, and I assume that part of these awards are also the reliability factor.
• 4:19
Speaker 4: Yes, that figures into that five year cost of ownership.
• 4:22
Speaker 4: And the other thing that figures in big to that and you'll see that trend in this list is Telluride and all of its Kia siblings 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
• 4:37
Speaker 1: So not, and if something breaks on it, that's in the warranty.
• 4:42
Speaker 1: Clearly you don't have to have a out of pocket expense and from my experience generally speaking, kia and Hyundai both build a pretty darn good car.
• 4:53
Speaker 4: I think that you don't offer that warranty unless you don't have to, because if you need that warranty, you're going to drive your business into the ground.
• 5:01
Speaker 4: But yeah, kia and Hyundai have come up to the level of Toyota, honda and in some way succeed them.
• 5:10
Speaker 1: Yeah Well, I've always been a fan of both brands, and mainly because of the price, because, generally speaking, if you put it head to head with any of the other ones, it's going to come in, generally speaking, lower initial cost to buy one.
• 5:29
Speaker 4: True, I mean that's changing a little bit.
• 5:31
Speaker 4: They're getting up on par with Toyota, honda and Nissan.
• 5:34
Speaker 4: But yeah, they're generally a little less expensive, unless you're buying a Tally Ride, because they're still in fantastic demand and they're still getting a lot of money for that car.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, what's number four?
• 5:48
Speaker 4: Let's look at two row SUV, the Honda Passport car right behind me.
• 5:51
Speaker 4: Passport's been around for a while.
• 5:56
Speaker 4: It's not the most inexpensive vehicle in that segment but it does everything it needs to do and has shown itself to be reliable for the first five years at least, according to Vincent Rex numbers.
• 6:11
Speaker 4: So those overall costs in the first five years are lower than other cars in the segment.
• 6:16
Speaker 1: I have never heard anybody that has ever owned a Honda complain about it ever.
• 6:21
Speaker 1: But actually years ago, right at the beginning of the Honda Accord fame and fortune, I bought one and I will tell you it was a great vehicle, never cost us any problems.
• 6:37
Speaker 1: I will say back in the day, the only thing that cost me money was that I had to have the timing belt changed on the engine.
• 6:46
Speaker 1: And it was not cheap to have that done because I think you have to tear off that front half of the motor.
• 6:51
Speaker 1: But that was my only complaint with it.
• 6:54
Speaker 1: But it never really gave us any problem and that was part of ownership.
• 6:58
Speaker 1: Like brake pads, you had to change the timing belt in it.
• 7:02
Speaker 1: But the Honda Passport I've never heard anybody complain about it at all.
• 7:07
Speaker 4: Yep, you know let's talk about that Accord, because it's the winner of our best midsize car for the money.
• 7:13
Speaker 1: Well, well, that doesn't surprise me.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: You know, back in the day when I had mine this was back probably 1990 or so Shut up, did you just?
• 7:25
Speaker 1: Did you just give me a little smirk?
• 7:27
  Speaker 2: there.
• 7:30
Speaker 1: It was only 30 years ago.
• 7:31
Speaker 1: Give me a break.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: I will tell you that it has grown like old, fat people.
• 7:38
Speaker 1: It's gotten big man.
• 7:42
Speaker 1: It wasn't that size when it started.
• 7:44
Speaker 4: So yeah, I'll make you feel better.
• 7:46
Speaker 4: My first Accord was in 83.
• 7:49
Speaker 4: Okay, that was my first See there.
• 7:51
Speaker 3: Mars Mine was in 2003.
• 7:53
Speaker 3: We bought it because we were going back and forth in San Antonio a couple of times a month.
• 7:57
Speaker 3: We wanted something reliable, something we could put a lot of miles on it, keep a little bit of resale.
• 8:02
Speaker 3: Ended up giving it to the granddaughter and somewhere around 250,000 miles it left the family.
• 8:08
Speaker 1: Yep, Well there you go.
• 8:10
Speaker 4: Well, yeah, accord was smaller than today's Civic by a good distance.
• 8:16
  Speaker 1: That's correct, man.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: You know, back then, as is today, it was a very popular size.
• 8:22
Speaker 1: Now it's grown into a huge family car.
• 8:25
Speaker 1: But I would say that it was somewhere between a small and a mid-sized car back then.
• 8:32
Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, camry size and all that.
• 8:34
Speaker 3: In fact, my daughter just bought it a hybrid Accord about two months ago.
• 8:38
Speaker 1: Nice, she's loving it.
• 8:39
Speaker 1: Let's talk about number three on the list.
• 8:43
Speaker 4: Let's talk about another.
• 8:44
Speaker 4: Honda Civic is the best compact car for the money.
• 8:50
Speaker 1: Now would that be the four-door Civic.
• 8:51
  Speaker 1: That's the.
• 8:53
Speaker 1: Civic line overall, I got you Okay, all right the Honda Civic.
• 8:59
Speaker 4: Another great car in an extremely competitive segment.
• 9:01
Speaker 4: I mean the segment has Corolla in it, Kia Forte in it, Hyundai Elantra.
• 9:08
Speaker 4: They're really good vehicles in that segment, yeah.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: It's about every brand's in there.
• 9:15
Speaker 4: Just about every brand, every foreign brand, not the big three aren't in that segment anymore.
• 9:21
  Speaker 3: Yeah, that's because they're big.
• 9:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, let's switch to SUVs.
• 9:30
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 9:32
Speaker 4: Subcompact SUVs and some people won't call this an SUV, but we have a category as an SUV Kia Soul.
• 9:41
Speaker 1: I have always liked, always liked the Kia Soul.
• 9:45
  Speaker 3: Yes.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: And say what you will, I don't care.
• 9:49
Speaker 1: I like the way it rode.
• 9:51
Speaker 1: The power to weight ratio is very good at it.
• 9:54
Speaker 1: It handled great and it was handy.
• 10:00
Speaker 2: Exactly Not a fan, exactly.
• 10:03
  Speaker 4: The Soul.
• 10:04
Speaker 4: It rides low so it's really easy to load and unload.
• 10:06
Speaker 4: We lost the turbo in it a few years ago so it doesn't no longer available with the turbo, but still it's efficient.
• 10:17
Speaker 4: It's a great car or city car that has some utility on the weekends.
• 10:23
Speaker 1: Well, jeff says oh no, I'm not a fan.
• 10:26
Speaker 1: Did you ever ride one?
• 10:29
Speaker 2: No, I wouldn't get in it because I just don't like the styling up.
• 10:32
Speaker 3: Well, but that styling, I think, is what makes it to me much more functional than some of the other vehicles, because the access to the cargo area in the back or folding down the seats does settle a little bit lower.
• 10:44
Speaker 1: It's just like you say, it's handy.
• 10:47
Speaker 1: I don't know how else to put it.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: It might not be on the most beautiful list, but to have a car like that, I mean, look at the other ones that kind of tried to compete against it.
• 10:59
Speaker 1: They didn't make it.
• 11:00
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 11:02
Speaker 1: Nissan Cube is on.
• 11:03
Speaker 1: Remember that weird thing?
• 11:05
  Speaker 1: Like Nissan Cube.
• 11:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, and then the Scion XB, the other boxes, yeah.
• 11:12
Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was the brand that didn't make it from Toyota and they touted that and tried to make that work.
• 11:18
Speaker 1: And I think that when it was time for a model change, with those where they updated it all, they ruined it and it just ruined its quirkiness and it just didn't look right and it never did survive.
• 11:33
  Speaker 1: Interesting.
• 11:35
Speaker 4: It's a bad sign when you bring out a car intended for the younger set and you find most of them being toed behind RVs.
• 11:44
  Speaker 1: That's right Now you're talking.
• 11:45
Speaker 1: It's kind of like Corvette drivers you know who's driving Corvettes these days.
• 11:51
Speaker 3: Old gray haired man, the only people that can afford them.
• 11:55
Speaker 1: Well, that's true, they're affordable when they get to be like the age of mine.
• 12:00
Speaker 4: Right, you guys want to drive the new Corvette, the new E-Ray.
• 12:05
  Speaker 4: It's fantastic.
• 12:07
Speaker 1: Have you driven it.
• 12:08
Speaker 4: I have, I can only imagine.
• 12:11
Speaker 4: I actually got to drive it because I'm a juror for the North American car and truck of the airwars.
• 12:16
Speaker 4: Oh, you and Jack Nehred Yep I love that and you know, imagine a Corvette that you can drive in the rain and it goes in a straight line when you, when you jump on it.
• 12:30
  Speaker 1: In the rain.
• 12:31
  Speaker 1: Yeah, so they've.
• 12:32
Speaker 1: They've perfected that to computer control traction.
• 12:35
  Speaker 1: That's what they've done.
• 12:36
Speaker 4: It's all wheel drive.
• 12:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, there's that.
• 12:39
Speaker 1: But you know what, as I was told years ago when I started doing press reviews of cars, you can't fix stupid and people people have a way to be stupid when it comes to horsepower.
• 12:50
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: So what's?
• 12:52
Speaker 1: Number one, john, of the best cars for the money awards.
• 12:54
Speaker 4: Okay, we didn't rank it as a number, you know, rank it one to one to 11.
• 12:58
Speaker 4: We looked at it by class.
• 13:00
Speaker 4: So let's look at hybrid car.
• 13:03
  Speaker 4: Hybrid, yep.
• 13:04
Speaker 4: So everybody thinks of the Prius when they think hybrid.
• 13:10
Speaker 4: But the Elantra, you know it's a, it's a sedan, so it has a little bit more.
• 13:15
Speaker 4: You know utility for some people it tends to be a little less expensive than the Prius.
• 13:23
Speaker 4: You know rock solid car.
• 13:25
Speaker 4: Let's hop into hybrid SUV Kia Sportage Hybrid.
• 13:30
Speaker 4: It competes with some really popular SUVs the RAV4 and the CRV.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: That's a little bit bigger than the RAV4, though, isn't it?
• 13:41
Speaker 4: Sportage is about the same size, is it?
• 13:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, the Sorrento is the one that's a little bit bigger.
• 13:45
Speaker 4: Ah, that's what it is.
• 13:46
Speaker 4: Yep, and along that same line, best plug-in hybrid SUV Kia Sportage plug-in hybrid.
• 13:54
  Speaker 3: Hmm.
• 13:57
Speaker 4: So John Compact SUV, kind of on the same theme, Hyundai Tucson and you know, affordable to buy 10-year warranty.
• 14:07
Speaker 4: That's a common thing with Kia and Hyundai, Genesis and Mitsubishi vehicles.
• 14:13
Speaker 4: They all come with 10-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
• 14:16
Speaker 2: I like the styling of the Hyundai over the others that you mentioned.
• 14:19
Speaker 2: I think the styling of the Hyundai is good.
• 14:21
  Speaker 2: It's attractive and it's an eye-catcher.
• 14:25
Speaker 4: Hyundai is an interesting brand when it comes to their styling because, unlike a lot of other manufacturers that have a family look, hyundai gives most of their cars different looks.
• 14:34
Speaker 4: On the front end Right.
• 14:38
Speaker 1: Kind of like the difference between an Impala and a Nova Two completely different looks.
• 14:44
Speaker 1: Yeah Well, I've gone back a few years.
• 14:47
Speaker 1: I had a Nova, so forgive me for that, but you get the point.
• 14:51
Speaker 4: I'm sure you're talking about the real Nova and not the 68, 69, somewhere around there.
• 14:56
Speaker 4: Not the one that was built by Toyota.
• 14:58
Speaker 4: No, no, no no, no, no.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, the old school stuff, sixties, yeah, let's see.
• 15:04
Speaker 1: Anyway, but we don't want to get off track here, so continue on.
• 15:08
Speaker 4: So the last one on the list is the best minivan for the money, all right, and that is the Honda Odyssey.
• 15:14
Speaker 4: Oh, I would think Toyota would beat that.
• 15:16
Speaker 4: So another competitive set.
• 15:20
Speaker 4: You have the Kia Carnival out there with its fantastic warranty.
• 15:23
Speaker 4: You have the Chrysler Pacifica, which is available as a plug-in hybrid.
• 15:27
Speaker 4: You have the Sienna, which is a hybrid and also available with all-wheel drive.
• 15:33
Speaker 4: But our numbers show that the Odyssey comes out on top and has, for several years in a row, Wow, I like the Toyota minivan.
• 15:42
Speaker 2: I've sat in them In fact, it's the auto show recently and I like the styling.
• 15:47
Speaker 2: I like the way the dash is laid out and the whole configuration of it.
• 15:50
Speaker 1: So what does our engineer have?
• 15:51
Speaker 1: Is he on a Honda or does he have a Toyota?
• 15:54
  Speaker 3: Odyssey Honda Odyssey.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: And he offered me to buy that.
• 15:57
Speaker 2: I said I got eight bucks.
• 15:58
Speaker 2: You want it, you know.
• 16:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, so well, interesting.
• 16:03
Speaker 1: It's an interesting list.
• 16:04
Speaker 1: I would have some I would have picked, but others it's like kind of surprising, like the Kia Soul, yeah.
• 16:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm inexpensive to buy.
• 16:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm inexpensive to own.
• 16:16
Speaker 1: Now, where can our viewers and listeners get more information on this?
• 16:22
Speaker 4: Just go to usnewscom and click on the cars tab and you get to our auto section.
• 16:27
Speaker 4: We don't just have car reviews there, we show you how to buy a car, when to buy a car, where to buy a car, and take you through the whole process of getting a car loan and getting into your car.
• 16:42
Speaker 1: We love talking to you.
• 16:43
Speaker 1: We thank you very much for joining us today.
• 16:46
Speaker 1: The best cars for the money awards John Vincent, when are we going to see you again?
• 16:51
Speaker 4: Let's talk again next month when we'll be talking about best cars for families.
• 16:56
  Speaker 1: All right, perfect.
• 16:56
Speaker 1: Just in time to start hunting for that summer vacation car Exactly.
• 17:03
Speaker 4: John, it's great to see you, my friend Secure yourself.
• 17:06
Speaker 1: You too, take care.
• 17:07
Speaker 1: All right, john Vance at US News.
• 17:09
Speaker 1: Good stuff, it is good stuff.
• 17:11
Speaker 1: And speaking of good stuff, we happen to have a little featurette that Mr Jeffrey Zekin has put together for us.
• 17:20
Speaker 1: We always need more Jeff Sure.
• 17:21
Speaker 1: Jeff presents the six military vehicles any civilian can own.
• 17:28
Speaker 1: Now, whether you can fit them in the garage or the driveway or really upset the homeowners association, here we go.
• 17:36
Speaker 2: Well, it's a matter of Mike's got grandchildren.
• 17:39
  Speaker 2: I've got grandchildren.
• 17:39
Speaker 2: Any one of these you could buy for your grandchild.
• 17:41
Speaker 3: Oh, I got a couple of them.
• 17:43
Speaker 3: I would love to have one of these, yeah.
• 17:45
Speaker 1: It looks like one of those police things that they do with the SWAT scene.
• 17:49
Speaker 2: So this one here is called a Jeep Kaiser M715.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: It's introduced in the mid-60s and it replaced the M37.
• 17:57
Speaker 2: The M715 is a hauler with increased mobility and low capacity.
• 18:01
Speaker 2: Despite its initial modest reception by the military in the beginning, over the years it kind of grew on everybody and for those interested the M715 is available for approximately $8,000, but you're probably going to get it in a condition that you're going to have to rebuild it.
• 18:17
Speaker 2: So some of these things in fact most of them you can get them pretty cheap, but you're going to Hold it right there, don't?
• 18:23
  Speaker 1: I'm back.
• 18:23
  Speaker 1: Sorry, go ahead.
• 18:24
Speaker 1: I was just going to say that particular vehicle.
• 18:27
Speaker 1: I don't know what you'd use that for, unless it was some sort of landscaping deal or something.
• 18:32
Speaker 2: You could or camping, you know maybe take the Boy Scouts, girl Scouts, out.
• 18:37
Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm going to go up to?
• 18:38
Speaker 1: I'm going to go up to the, uh, the, uh, the, the national forest, and it's going to take me an hour to get up there.
• 18:47
Speaker 1: What kind of mileage is that thing, doesn't?
• 18:50
Speaker 1: Say and I can only imagine.
• 18:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's probably going to be very, very poor.
• 18:55
Speaker 3: I don't think they even counted that back.
• 18:57
Speaker 2: No, not in a day.
• 18:58
Speaker 1: No, but my God when you put your a hundred gallons of gas in the thing.
• 19:01
Speaker 1: Uh, you'll be counting it.
• 19:03
Speaker 2: Well, don't forget their military vehicles.
• 19:04
Speaker 2: So there were more for on either defensive or offensive, and you know terrains and things of that nature.
• 19:09
Speaker 2: So this one is a Paramount Marauder.
• 19:12
Speaker 2: The Marauder is a robust military vehicle designed for reconnaissance.
• 19:16
  Speaker 2: Didn't Mitsubishi build a?
• 19:17
  Speaker 1: Marauder?
• 19:18
Speaker 1: Uh no, it did.
• 19:19
Speaker 1: What is that thing out on top of it?
• 19:21
Speaker 2: It's some sort of bird or a plane, it's an antenna.
• 19:25
Speaker 2: It's Superman If they use these for UN peacekeeping missions.
• 19:28
Speaker 2: And the ability to carry 10 men and handle up to 13,000 pounds of equipment, which means everyone's mother-in-law could go for a ride.
• 19:35
Speaker 2: Uh, a double skin, monocoque hull provides protection against small arms fire.
• 19:40
  Speaker 2: That's why it's a military vehicle.
• 19:42
Speaker 2: It's available for purchase.
• 19:44
Speaker 1: Some places here in Houston that you could use that midnight, two o'clock in the morning Look at all the people in the background.
• 19:50
Speaker 3: They're using it someplace where they're having a party.
• 19:52
Speaker 2: This is available back in 2008 and it's recognized as one of the coolest military vehicles to buy.
• 19:59
Speaker 1: Those people are running for their lives because they see the drone on the top of that thing.
• 20:03
Speaker 2: Oh no, take one to Grandbury.
• 20:05
  Speaker 2: That'd be awesome, wouldn't it?
• 20:06
Speaker 2: Okay, this next one we have is called a Hawkeye.
• 20:09
Speaker 2: Now, this Hawkeye is basically an Australian type vehicle.
• 20:12
Speaker 2: It's a next generation and protection vehicle, offers versatility, is a four on four, four by four I like the sunglasses that it wears with a three ton payload.
• 20:22
Speaker 2: Its adaptable configurations include troop carrier, staff, car command and control vehicle, reconnaissance vehicle and electronic warfare platform.
• 20:32
Speaker 2: You can buy this in just about every country there is.
• 20:35
Speaker 2: As long as they're available, I think I like it.
• 20:37
Speaker 2: How much is it?
• 20:38
Speaker 2: It doesn't say, but you can get it probably beat up and ragged out for around 10 grand.
• 20:42
Speaker 3: So you see the guy standing back there behind to give you an idea how tall that thing is, and there's also a guy in a walker, so he's a guy in a walker.
• 20:54
Speaker 1: Wait, I reckon it's me Sorry.
• 20:58
Speaker 2: Okay, this one is pretty bad to the bone.
• 21:01
Speaker 2: It is an Elvis Star Wars.
• 21:03
  Speaker 2: Wait a minute.
• 21:04
Speaker 2: Elvis Elvis, not Elvis ALV.
• 21:07
  Speaker 3: It's his cousin.
• 21:10
Speaker 2: This amphibious cargo vehicle produced in the UK, entered service in 1966.
• 21:16
Speaker 1: How the hell do you steer it?
• 21:16
Speaker 1: It's got six wheels on it that are all so close together.
• 21:19
Speaker 2: You can't turn them.
• 21:20
Speaker 2: It's initially designed for supplying forward units with fuel and ammunition.
• 21:24
Speaker 2: It could carry troops and cargo.
• 21:26
Speaker 2: Top speed on land is 40 miles an hour and it can go in the water seven miles an hour.
• 21:32
Speaker 2: It's a vehicle that is available for civilian purchase.
• 21:37
Speaker 2: So there you go, it's the new duck.
• 21:39
  Speaker 2: It could be.
• 21:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very possible.
• 21:41
Speaker 2: And then, moving on to this one, this one's a little different.
• 21:45
Speaker 2: This is called a Tucker Snowcat.
• 21:47
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 21:48
Speaker 2: Operating from the Tucker Snowcat Corporation.
• 21:51
Speaker 2: It's a terrain vehicle specifically designed for military transports cargo tactical work for the US military.
• 21:58
Speaker 1: I know a guy that flies around the country and on his sideline job is running snowcats.
• 22:06
Speaker 1: Katie needs one of these.
• 22:07
Speaker 1: Katie needs one of those.
• 22:09
Speaker 2: Yes, she does With no consistent price on these things because there's variations of it with the different tracks and availability.
• 22:16
Speaker 2: It's estimated to fetch around a hundred grand on average, offering a unique option for those seeking tracked over snow vehicles.
• 22:24
Speaker 1: Hey honey, let's go down to the water burger and get a snow cone today.
• 22:28
Speaker 2: Load up on the tracks.
• 22:30
Speaker 2: Okay, another favorite of mine coming up is a Patton M47 medium battle tank.
• 22:36
  Speaker 2: Now we're talking.
• 22:38
Speaker 2: The M47 battle tank is part of the M Patton General tank series served as the main battle tank during the early years of the Cold War.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: Originally designed, mike, for military purposes, it is available, duh.
• 22:51
Speaker 2: A military purpose available for civilian purchase provides enthusiasts with an opportunity to own.
• 22:57
Speaker 1: So that would be.
• 22:58
Speaker 1: Let's see, that would be post-World War II.
• 23:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but it did see service, it did see service.
• 23:04
Speaker 2: And you see, obviously this is in an area of a museum, can you imagine?
• 23:08
Speaker 1: going up to the Dairy Queen.
• 23:09
Speaker 2: Hey, I'll take a dip cone make it chocolate, or you're in my parking spot and you lower the gun to it down there, they'll just roll over the whole car.
• 23:18
Speaker 2: Now, my favorite and this is a little tip of the hat too the auto boat of show, mike, this one is cool.
• 23:26
Speaker 2: You know I always talk about submarines.
• 23:28
Speaker 2: Well, this one has a special meaning, mike, because this is a whiskey class.
• 23:33
  Speaker 2: There you go.
• 23:34
Speaker 2: Mars, used during the height of the Cold War, the whiskey class submarine was a Soviet threat and operated under more than 40 nations until the nineties.
• 23:42
Speaker 2: With the lasting design and operability, these submarines can be purchased by civilians, michael, with the right license, knowledge and operational space, typically around a half a million bucks.
• 23:55
Speaker 2: So Lake Conroe would never see one of these.
• 23:58
Speaker 2: You don't know that.
• 24:00
Speaker 2: Well, you never know.
• 24:01
Speaker 2: It could be one under there, right?
• 24:02
Speaker 1: now, because you know, the middle of the lake is really really deep up there.
• 24:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, and in the middle of the lake there is a railroad track.
• 24:09
Speaker 1: Did you know that?
• 24:10
Speaker 1: I did not know that?
• 24:10
Speaker 1: Underneath, yes, there are maps that you can buy.
• 24:14
Speaker 1: They're available online and wherever.
• 24:17
Speaker 1: Wherever fish are sold and they have the terrain of it, it's underneath the lake.
• 24:23
  Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
• 24:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, lake Conroe there was actual.
• 24:26
Speaker 1: There were houses and all sorts of stuff down there.
• 24:28
  Speaker 2: Well, isn't?
• 24:28
Speaker 2: There's a lot of debris in general in that lake, isn't there?
• 24:30
Speaker 1: Well debris, but I mean originally when they dammed it up at the end it was at the.
• 24:36
  Speaker 1: It was.
• 24:37
Speaker 1: It was a part of the San Jacinto River.
• 24:39
Speaker 1: Oh, and it was headed yeah, headed down through there and they said, hmm, we'll just put a dam here and hold back the water.
• 24:45
Speaker 2: And that's why they have to release during the certain storm season.
• 24:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, it makes sense.
• 24:49
Speaker 2: Well, there you go.
• 24:51
Speaker 1: You could buy a full of useless information and other things.
• 24:54
Speaker 2: If you've got a young student graduating school, you might want to look into one of these Graduation presence.
• 24:59
Speaker 2: There you go, the submarine.
• 25:01
Speaker 2: The majority of them are kind of beat up and you got to.
• 25:04
Speaker 2: Can you imagine you?
• 25:05
  Speaker 1: gotta rebuild it.
• 25:06
Speaker 1: We're, yeah, no, we're going to have a high school graduation party and everybody's invited on the submarine.
• 25:13
  Speaker 1: There you go.
• 25:15
Speaker 3: We're going to Galveston or we.
• 25:18
  Speaker 2: why don't buy?
• 25:19
  Speaker 2: You Didn't you?
• 25:19
Speaker 1: tell me that's a whiskey class.
• 25:21
  Speaker 2: Whiskey class.
• 25:22
Speaker 2: Whiskey class there you go.
• 25:23
Speaker 2: Just my style, that's what I thought of you when I put a bonus in there.
• 25:26
  Speaker 2: Oh Lord.
• 25:28
Speaker 1: That's, yeah All right.
• 25:29
Speaker 1: Well, interesting stuff you could buy them.
• 25:32
Speaker 1: Well, that was a very interesting story.
• 25:34
Speaker 1: I'm going to fill this little story in here real quick before we take a break.
• 25:40
Speaker 1: Despite federal efforts to fill in charging infrastructure gaps and make electric vehicles cheaper for consumers, us car dealers surveyed by automotive news say they're worried the Biden administration is forcing the industry to move too far ahead of market demand.
• 25:57
Speaker 1: Thousands of dealerships have urged President Joe Biden to reconsider the proposal, which could be finalized as soon as March, but that it's the proposal that you know.
• 26:09
Speaker 1: We're going to have limits on vehicle tailpipe pollution for 27 to 32 model year cars and light trucks.
• 26:17
Speaker 1: So everybody's trying to get ahead of the game by trying to sell EVs, which could be finalized as soon as March, arguing it would mandate an unrealistic shift to solely battery-powered vehicles before the market and infrastructure are ready.
• 26:31
Speaker 1: Those to the survey dealers nearly 55% said EVs were not generating customer interest or sales at their stores, with some citing affordability concerns or a lack of inventory.
• 26:44
