- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Overland Journal podcast. I'm your
- 0:06Speaker 1: host Scott Brady, and I'm here with my co host
- 0:09Speaker 1: Matt Scott. We are all drinking champagne right now, which
- 0:11Speaker 1: is celebratory in some small way, but more I think
- 0:15Speaker 1: as a lubrication for conversation, let's.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Call it that.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So I am very very excited to have Lindsay and Jessica.
- 0:23Speaker 1: They are the co founders of Loadstone Events who put
- 0:27Speaker 1: on the Overland Expo that we have come to know
- 0:29Speaker 1: and love. This event is very dear to me. It's
- 0:32Speaker 1: been exciting to see it grow from conversations that even
- 0:35Speaker 1: started in my kitchen. So this is really exciting to
- 0:38Speaker 1: see from two thousand and nine until today where we're
- 0:41Speaker 1: going to have thirty thousand people we've heard here in Flagstaff,
- 0:45Speaker 1: which is Is it the biggest number yet?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yes?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, definitely the biggest number so far.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Well, thank you both so much for being on the podcast.
- 0:53Speaker 1: How does the number thirty thousand feel to you?
- 0:56Speaker 4: It feels really great because you know, I think there's
- 0:59Speaker 4: a lot of pent up energy in the industry, and
- 1:01Speaker 4: so we knew that the event was going to be
- 1:04Speaker 4: really strong this year, but people came out and droves
- 1:06Speaker 4: even in the rain on Sundays, So you really impressed
- 1:09Speaker 4: by Yeah, that was great. Definitely a hearty community.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's cool.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 1:13Speaker 5: I went to my first over on Nextpo when I
- 1:14Speaker 5: was twenty one, and I was not drinking champagne and
- 1:17Speaker 5: an earth romer. Then if I was drinking PBR and whatever,
- 1:22Speaker 5: Scott had me sleeping in from some version of a
- 1:25Speaker 5: trailer or rooftend exactly, probably something like that bad.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It was great and cool. Every day is a good day.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Every day's a good day.
- 1:32Speaker 3: We've all grown up.
- 1:34Speaker 4: We still had PBR on Friday, so yeah, I've got
- 1:36Speaker 4: I've got.
- 1:37Speaker 5: A fridge fall of it justin the apple does not
- 1:40Speaker 5: fall far from the champagne budget beer taste.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yes, I like that.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I did there. Thanks to this week's sponsor, GCI Outdoor,

- 2:30Speaker 6: Well, I think you know, the attendance is an absolutely
- 2:33Speaker 6: fantastic you know, it's a it's a great judge of
- 2:37Speaker 6: what Overland Expo has become and is definitely representative of
- 2:40Speaker 6: the foundation that Rosanne and Jonathan kind of set forth
- 2:43Speaker 6: for quest for the brand. So but on top of that,
- 2:45Speaker 6: the industry support here this weekend, between the media that's
- 2:48Speaker 6: here and then the you know, over four hundred brands
- 2:51Speaker 6: that are are here to you know, sell product and
- 2:52Speaker 6: introduce your product into engage with the community is really fantastic.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Gear Well, And for me, one of the foundations of
- 2:58Speaker 1: the event that I've always been so proud to be
- 3:00Speaker 1: associated with is the way that you help to inspire
- 3:03Speaker 1: and educate new folks to the overlanding space. And it
- 3:07Speaker 1: looks like that has remained a priority for you and
- 3:09Speaker 1: your team. Can you talk a little bit about how
- 3:12Speaker 1: you view that part of the event and maybe even
- 3:14Speaker 1: how you intend to grow that more in the future. Sure, so, well,
- 3:19Speaker 1: they're sisters, by the way, and this is going to
- 3:21Speaker 1: be very entertaining each other.
- 3:23Speaker 4: We share the same brain. We can all we can
- 3:27Speaker 4: both answer these questions.
- 3:28Speaker 5: But Matt and I still hope we would get a
- 3:30Speaker 5: brain at some point. I don't really have one.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Maybe you will after a bass of champagne, I think. Well,
- 3:38Speaker 4: so we were really impressed. You know, we teach some
- 3:41Speaker 4: Overland Foundational classes here and we're really impressed with the
- 3:46Speaker 4: attendance in those classes. So many newcombers to to the hobby,
- 3:51Speaker 4: and we feel a duty really to help to train
- 3:54Speaker 4: those people to overland responsibly and to learn the basics responsibly,
- 3:59Speaker 4: and to know what they need and what they don't need,
- 4:01Speaker 4: and to know that they can find all those items
- 4:03Speaker 4: here at Overland Expo. So we had an event on
- 4:06Speaker 4: Friday night, a foundation raffle. We asked everyone, hundreds of
- 4:09Speaker 4: people at this raffle, ask everyone who who here?
- 4:13Speaker 5: Is?
- 4:13Speaker 4: This is your first Overlin Expo nearly eighty five, ninety
- 4:17Speaker 4: percent of the people raise their hand and we were
- 4:19Speaker 4: amazed to see that many newcomers.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Yeah, that's so fantastic from like the industry side, Like
- 4:24Speaker 5: I'm media and an exhibitor here. This is how people
- 4:28Speaker 5: get into it. This is you know, we talked to
- 4:30Speaker 5: so many people. I'm going to Overland Expo to learn
- 4:32Speaker 5: about overlining. I want to check that out. It's kind
- 4:35Speaker 5: of the entry point I feel for this, for this hobby,
- 4:38Speaker 5: for this passion. I think it's hugely important and so
- 4:41Speaker 5: happy to see it back. So happy to see that
- 4:43Speaker 5: you guys survived and that now you're thriving. I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 5: thirty thousand people is awesome.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that is well.
- 4:49Speaker 6: And we introduced a new show this year in Colorado,
- 4:51Speaker 6: the Mountain West Event, and we had over seventeen thousand
- 4:54Speaker 6: attendees there for a first year.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Was fantastic.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I was impressed by that the event. One of the
- 4:58Speaker 1: things I really liked about it is very easy to
- 5:01Speaker 1: get around vendors. It was the way that the whole
- 5:03Speaker 1: event was laid out I thought was very efficient to
- 5:05Speaker 1: get around. I also liked the fact that there was
- 5:08Speaker 1: a little bit of difference in elevation, so you could
- 5:10Speaker 1: kind of get up towards that big building and just
- 5:13Speaker 1: get a sense of the scale and the space that
- 5:15Speaker 1: was there. So I really enjoyed that event. I think
- 5:18Speaker 1: you're going to do well with that, especially with the
- 5:20Speaker 1: proximity to Denver.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Well, and the same thing at our foundation event on
- 5:25Speaker 3: Friday night. You know, we had you.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Know, hundreds of people in the room and it was
- 5:28Speaker 6: a lot of Overland experience folks that'll go through our
- 5:31Speaker 6: training programs and the education programs on site. And we
- 5:33Speaker 6: had you know, eighty percent of those folks were brand
- 5:36Speaker 6: new in the industry. So that's you know, I should
- 5:38Speaker 6: say brand new to Overland expos. So, you know, I
- 5:40Speaker 6: think that's a testament to the brand. But you know,
- 5:43Speaker 6: as Jessica was saying, the education component of that is
- 5:45Speaker 6: so important because if we're the first stop for them
- 5:48Speaker 6: to come and to get inspired and get educated, we
- 5:50Speaker 6: have to make sure that that education is you know,
- 5:52Speaker 6: it has a foundation and over and respectfully and to
- 5:56Speaker 6: be able to you know, work with you know, great
- 5:58Speaker 6: partners with like the BDR Art and also tread lightly
- 6:01Speaker 6: to make sure that our training is on point for
- 6:04Speaker 6: those things.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Yeah, and you have seven P two, which is like yea,
- 6:07Speaker 5: the absolute best of the best of the best there
- 6:09Speaker 5: well class.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Yeah, and with Overland Experience, you know, you get you
- 6:12Speaker 6: get that hands on driving experience. I mean, anybody at
- 6:15Speaker 6: the event can come to any of the you know,
- 6:17Speaker 6: the basic education programs, but that upgraded you know, training
- 6:20Speaker 6: experience with seven P and the Dart team for our
- 6:23Speaker 6: Adventure motorcycle team.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Builder who is fantastic as well.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Yeah, We're very very fortunate to have a very great group.
- 6:29Speaker 6: And again it's a foundation that you know, Jonathan and
- 6:31Speaker 6: Roseanne and really the Overland community has. It's a great
- 6:34Speaker 6: opportunity for us because it was a foundation that was
- 6:37Speaker 6: set before.
- 6:37Speaker 1: We Yeah, they were very passionate about making sure that
- 6:40Speaker 1: training component was there, that environmental consideration. As the industry grows,
- 6:45Speaker 1: what we're going to see more and more is these
- 6:48Speaker 1: ancillary industries wanting to get involved with this rapidly growing segment,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and oftentimes there can be some challenges with that. Side
- 6:56Speaker 1: by sides come to mind, where it doesn't mean that
- 6:59Speaker 1: there's anything wrong with the side by side, but it
- 7:01Speaker 1: is a different form of travel, and if we bring
- 7:04Speaker 1: them in through that process of training, tread lightly understanding
- 7:07Speaker 1: that there are speed limits on trails and things like that,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and I think it can be successful. But what we
- 7:12Speaker 1: want to be really mindful of is when we do
- 7:15Speaker 1: integrate ancillary communities that they come in through that process
- 7:18Speaker 1: of training and awareness and understanding that we're a guest
- 7:22Speaker 1: on public lands and that we're a guest in foreign
- 7:25Speaker 1: countries and we have to come into it in the
- 7:27Speaker 1: mindset of minimizing our impact on communities, on individuals on trails,
- 7:33Speaker 1: for example. And that's one thing that's really important I
- 7:35Speaker 1: think with seven P is that they understand that impact.
- 7:38Speaker 1: They know that they can recommend people look, don't have
- 7:41Speaker 1: groups over three to five because it ends up expanding
- 7:44Speaker 1: campsites and get trails closed down. And so there's we're
- 7:47Speaker 1: starting to see that good communication happening, which is so important.
- 7:50Speaker 6: Well, and I think, you know, we're also reaching out
- 7:52Speaker 6: across you know, different lines of communication to you know
- 7:56Speaker 6: and embrace the outdoor community because the majority of where
- 8:00Speaker 6: we're finding our growth in people that are coming to
- 8:02Speaker 6: the space are folks that are not over and curious,
- 8:05Speaker 6: but they're backpackers or their hikers or their mountain bikers.
- 8:08Speaker 5: And they see so much growth from mountain bikers and
- 8:11Speaker 5: climbers and that kind of Stuffly fishermen, you know, they
- 8:13Speaker 5: may not identify as an overlander, but they have a
- 8:16Speaker 5: tacoma with the bumper and the mat tracts. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 5: it's their base camp to go a little bit further.
- 8:23Speaker 5: And I think it's been cool to kind of see
- 8:25Speaker 5: that integrated into the event as well.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, and.
- 8:27Speaker 6: We share a foundation with, you know, the outdoor recreation
- 8:30Speaker 6: communities and I think you know, in the in the
- 8:32Speaker 6: public land debate, you know, there's a room for everyone
- 8:36Speaker 6: on you know, public land, and it is it's an
- 8:38Speaker 6: opportunity for all of us to get out and see
- 8:40Speaker 6: how beautiful this country is and we're so incredibly it's
- 8:44Speaker 6: just amazing what this what this country can provide to us.
- 8:47Speaker 6: And I mean, it's just an amazing country, it really is.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And there's so much to see and this really facilitates that.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And then we were so fortunate in one way with
- 8:56Speaker 1: the pandemic, is that it encouraged so many people to
- 8:58Speaker 1: get out. Yes, yes, And I think that that's why
- 9:01Speaker 1: you're seeing this big boost in attendees, is that so
- 9:04Speaker 1: many people did go by a sprinter van or they
- 9:06Speaker 1: did put a roof ten on their forerunner and they
- 9:08Speaker 1: went out and they socially distanced by going to some
- 9:11Speaker 1: beautiful place and now they realize that this is something
- 9:13Speaker 1: that they really enjoy. So it's exciting to see this
- 9:17Speaker 1: not only continued adoption, which we expected, but we've seen
- 9:19Speaker 1: this almost turbo charging of the industry because of what
- 9:23Speaker 1: has happened over the last year.
- 9:24Speaker 2: There's like so many sprinters now.
- 9:27Speaker 5: It is crazy, like I just got married and tell
- 9:29Speaker 5: you're ID and Scott was there and it was like sprinter, sprinter, sprinter, sprinter, sprinter, sprinter.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's amazing.
- 9:35Speaker 5: I even saw like a sticker on a Tacoma that
- 9:38Speaker 5: was like one less sprinter. I think, say, I think
- 9:41Speaker 5: Sinway has one on his on his on his GS
- 9:45Speaker 5: or something, you know, you know.
- 9:47Speaker 4: And I know over an expostricially been more of like
- 9:50Speaker 4: a vehicle based adventure community, but we're trying to be
- 9:52Speaker 4: more welcoming to the sprinter van community social so makes
- 9:56Speaker 4: much sense, right, absolutely.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And they can be built very capable. You have several
- 10:00Speaker 1: vendors here at this show that are building more capable vehicles,
- 10:04Speaker 1: stronger and that are able to go deeper into the
- 10:07Speaker 1: back country and that's certainly one of the foundations of
- 10:09Speaker 1: overlanding is getting remote.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Yes, you know, again going back to the industry support
- 10:14Speaker 6: here even this weekend at over the Nexpo, the amount
- 10:17Speaker 6: of product, a new product, and the innovation that's gone
- 10:19Speaker 6: into those products is really incredible. There is so much
- 10:23Speaker 6: more accessibility to all of these vehicles across the board,
- 10:26Speaker 6: and so many different varieties of products that are out
- 10:29Speaker 6: there today and just bringing modern conveniences to your camping adventure.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Pretty incredible.
- 10:34Speaker 2: As we sit here at an Earth Roumer.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Right drinking sh.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Exactly, this is a very rough day at Overland Xpo.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Another question that comes to mind for me, now that
- 10:46Speaker 1: you two have spent several years managing these events, I've
- 10:50Speaker 1: really seen your experience running events kind of permeate the
- 10:53Speaker 1: processes of Overland Expo. It's definitely handled the increased crowd
- 10:58Speaker 1: size because of all of your experience is with that.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But what have you to learned about overlanding, Like, what
- 11:04Speaker 1: what's the standout realizations that you've had that are maybe
- 11:08Speaker 1: different from the events that you ran before. What's different
- 11:10Speaker 1: about this community?
- 11:11Speaker 4: The community is so different. All the communities we've worked
- 11:15Speaker 4: with have been wonderful in their own ways. But this
- 11:17Speaker 4: community is so kind. They want to talk to each other,
- 11:21Speaker 4: they want to swap fab techniques, they want to inspire
- 11:23Speaker 4: each other. And we have loved getting to know so
- 11:26Speaker 4: many of like the instructors and the presenters that have
- 11:29Speaker 4: been a part of this community for so many years.
- 11:31Speaker 4: That's been such a treat to get to know these
- 11:34Speaker 4: wonderful people that are part of the community.
- 11:36Speaker 6: And I think, you know, the products and the people
- 11:39Speaker 6: in the industry of the community, it's the authenticity of
- 11:42Speaker 6: all the brands that are here and the people that
- 11:44Speaker 6: are here. I mean that is there's a resounding underlying
- 11:47Speaker 6: current of authenticity with with everything that it is presented
- 11:51Speaker 6: here at Overland Expo. And I have to also, you know,
- 11:53Speaker 6: I've got to get a shout out to the you
- 11:54Speaker 6: know the Overland Expo like og team, you know, they
- 11:57Speaker 6: those folks like you know Eva, Rupert na As, You're
- 12:00Speaker 6: Neil and you know Alison to lap Anthony, you know
- 12:03Speaker 6: all of those things.
- 12:04Speaker 2: You're wonderful humans result of the Earth. Wonderful humans.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Yes, and they have they all had these incredible hidden talents.
- 12:11Speaker 4: They were doing things for over and Expo, but over
- 12:13Speaker 4: the last two years, we've found new hidden talents in
- 12:16Speaker 4: all of them and we've tried to put them on
- 12:18Speaker 4: a pedestal to bring those talents out and they are
- 12:21Speaker 4: just shining that they really are and I think, you
- 12:23Speaker 4: know that's We obviously had some hard times during COVID
- 12:25Speaker 4: nineteen because of the events completely being shut down, so
- 12:28Speaker 4: that has been a challenge for us, but our team
- 12:30Speaker 4: stayed together.
- 12:31Speaker 3: You know, the group is very strong. We're stronger now
- 12:34Speaker 3: than we ever have been.
- 12:35Speaker 6: But you know, Loadstone is currently bringing on, you know,
- 12:37Speaker 6: a ton of support people, but you know, the original
- 12:40Speaker 6: team are kind of our brand ambassadors, our leaders and
- 12:43Speaker 6: how we move the company forward, and the rest of
- 12:46Speaker 6: the team has now been brought in to basically manage
- 12:48Speaker 6: the like real logistics that have to go behind you know,
- 12:52Speaker 6: producing like a world class event, and so they're basically
- 12:55Speaker 6: the the infrastructure that's been needed to really support the
- 12:59Speaker 6: authenticity of brand.
- 13:00Speaker 2: And the growth of the industry for sure, right.
- 13:03Speaker 6: But those are you know, the original team that was
- 13:06Speaker 6: that was a part of the you know, the founding
- 13:08Speaker 6: of Overland Expo, including seven P and Rosanna and Jonathan
- 13:11Speaker 6: still are very active with us and write with us
- 13:14Speaker 6: and you know those folks are those folks are leading
- 13:16Speaker 6: the charge and how we are developing and moving forward.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I think it's cool how that core team is still here,
- 13:21Speaker 5: and I think like the.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Worry, the worry when you know here over the next
- 13:24Speaker 2: bull guests sold is like, what's going to happen? To happen?
- 13:27Speaker 2: What's going to happen in the community.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Guys. There was so much institutional knowledge with that team.
- 13:34Speaker 4: You know, an ownership that would come in and clean
- 13:36Speaker 4: house like that doesn't know what they're doing. Yeah, there's institutional.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Knowledge there and authenticity that I think the community was
- 13:43Speaker 1: really counting on staying around.
- 13:45Speaker 4: So so one thing that we have learned so much
- 13:48Speaker 4: is just from the og over the Expo team, we
- 13:51Speaker 4: have learned the ways of this community. We've learned some
- 13:54Speaker 4: things about producing the event because this event was produced
- 13:56Speaker 4: differently than any other shows we'd ever produced. And in
- 14:00Speaker 4: the beginning we were like, I don't know that you
- 14:01Speaker 4: want to do it that way, but we watched them
- 14:03Speaker 4: do it that way and we were like, this works,
- 14:05Speaker 4: this works, and this is the way it's been here,
- 14:07Speaker 4: So let's make this work because it works for this community.
- 14:09Speaker 6: You know, even you know Jessica's talking about new talents
- 14:12Speaker 6: with the team, right, So like so many new talents.
- 14:14Speaker 6: We so we founded the Overland Expo Foundation, which the
- 14:17Speaker 6: Raffle used to go to Conson Ventures, which was Rosen
- 14:20Speaker 6: and Jonathan's foundation, And so we founded the foundation and
- 14:24Speaker 6: we've now named Alison de lap as our executive director,
- 14:27Speaker 6: so she's going to stay on board with us and
- 14:29Speaker 6: really develop all of our causes, all of our you know,
- 14:31Speaker 6: strategic direction for the foundation and you know, all the
- 14:34Speaker 6: different Overland inspirational you know stories that we can fund
- 14:38Speaker 6: and then also different organizations that we can fund to
- 14:40Speaker 6: help their causes like the BDR and tred Lightley and
- 14:44Speaker 6: projects Coast to Coast And what.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Do you see as some of the needs within the community.
- 14:49Speaker 1: What are the things that are being underserved that we
- 14:51Speaker 1: should all be mindful of doing a better job of
- 14:54Speaker 1: in your mind.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I think protecting public lands and motorized access to public lands,
- 14:58Speaker 4: responsible use of public lands. I think, you know, in
- 15:01Speaker 4: the foundation is going to have a great opportunity to
- 15:04Speaker 4: kind of again reach across those different you know, organizations
- 15:07Speaker 4: like the outdoor recreation communities so that we can work
- 15:10Speaker 4: together and we can all you know, use our public lands,
- 15:13Speaker 4: you know, accessively. The other thing I think that the
- 15:15Speaker 4: Foundation is going to be great at is actually supporting
- 15:18Speaker 4: overlanders in very diverse you know categories, and I think
- 15:22Speaker 4: that you know, we'd love to see you know, more cultural.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Initiatives that's necessary.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Across the board.
- 15:28Speaker 6: So you know, the foundation is going to fund great
- 15:29Speaker 6: overlanding communities across the entire you know, internationally and across
- 15:33Speaker 6: the United States that you know, maybe we're highlighting some
- 15:36Speaker 6: people that need to be highlighted in the community.
- 15:38Speaker 1: That's wonderful. How do people get involved with the organization
- 15:41Speaker 1: with your not for profit.
- 15:42Speaker 4: So people can apply for funding on our website over
- 15:46Speaker 4: and Expo Foundation dot org. Allison the lap she and
- 15:50Speaker 4: the board of directors. Lindsay and I are on the board.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Anthony Secola is also on the board of directors. We
- 15:55Speaker 4: review causes that have applied and we allocate funds throughout
- 15:59Speaker 4: the year. So we were in the process right now
- 16:02Speaker 4: valicating funds to different organizations and projects. They're five o'
- 16:05Speaker 4: one c threes and then they're also just individuals as well.
- 16:08Speaker 4: We also this year launched a program, a scholarship program
- 16:11Speaker 4: where folks can apply to come to over An expo
- 16:14Speaker 4: to basically get a complimentary Overlin experience package. So let's
- 16:17Speaker 4: say you're just starting in the community and you want
- 16:20Speaker 4: to come here and get trained, get outfitted, get inspired.
- 16:23Speaker 4: You can apply for the scholarship, put you through the program.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Our editors will follow you through the program, and we'll
- 16:28Speaker 4: make sure that your causes and what you're working on
- 16:31Speaker 4: also gets some notoriety across all of our channels.
- 16:33Speaker 1: And then how would a company get involved to help
- 16:37Speaker 1: as well that maybe help sponsor.
- 16:39Speaker 4: We are developing that and we will let everyone know
- 16:42Speaker 4: in twenty twenty two, hopefully in January.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Cool awesome.
- 16:45Speaker 4: First step this year was to really get this thing launched,
- 16:48Speaker 4: do some fundraising, which we have done a tremendous job
- 16:50Speaker 4: of this year, just using the events as a stepping
- 16:52Speaker 4: stone for that, and then next year is finding a
- 16:55Speaker 4: new way to get industry involved.
- 16:56Speaker 3: We also built two ultimate builds this year.
- 17:00Speaker 6: Was with Honda on in Africa twin that was our
- 17:02Speaker 6: ultimate motorcycle build, and then also went with Toyota on
- 17:05Speaker 6: a Toyota four Runner. Both builds are debuted at our
- 17:08Speaker 6: Mountain West event, which was absolutely fantastic. Yeah, we had
- 17:12Speaker 6: great participation from the community and from the industry, and
- 17:15Speaker 6: then those are going to be raffled off with I'm
- 17:18Speaker 6: not raffled, sorry, not raffled sorry, auctioned off at the
- 17:21Speaker 6: end of the year, probably the first of November, around
- 17:23Speaker 6: the first of November, and with ninety percent of those vehicle,
- 17:27Speaker 6: the vehicle and the motorcycle proceeds going to the foundation.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Oh cool, Yeah, so we'll get fantastic.
- 17:33Speaker 4: So fundraising, We've done a really great job of fundraising.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Now we really need folks to take a look at
- 17:38Speaker 4: our program and the causes that we support and apply
- 17:41Speaker 4: for funding because we are ready to start funding organizations.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so those are listening.
- 17:46Speaker 1: If you want to go see the world and you'd
- 17:49Speaker 1: like to get a sponsorship to come to Overland Expo.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yes, this is your chance.
- 17:53Speaker 3: So yes, absolutely want to help its scholarship.
- 17:56Speaker 4: It's a scholarship.
- 17:58Speaker 2: I love it. I love it. I love it. Speaking
- 18:00Speaker 2: of scholarship, I think Matt needs some more champagne.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Champagne time.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Scholarship.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Don't threaten me with a good time.
- 18:08Speaker 3: The Overlin Foundation will support you in that.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Poor Thank you.
- 18:11Speaker 4: This is quite the brunch here, guys.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I know, we just need to I don't know.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Absolutely, cheers to brunch, cheers to champagne lunches.
- 18:22Speaker 1: There's a couple other things that come to mind for
- 18:24Speaker 1: me is how do you see the event growing in
- 18:26Speaker 1: the ways that you want to share. I mean, we
- 18:28Speaker 1: now have three events in the country, they're all very
- 18:31Speaker 1: well attended. What do you see as being the future
- 18:35Speaker 1: or what are the next steps? What can people look
- 18:37Speaker 1: forward to with the event going forward?
- 18:39Speaker 6: Well, we are looking at an additional location. It would
- 18:42Speaker 6: be in a location that's definitely farther off the grid
- 18:46Speaker 6: than our current three locations. So we can't tell you
- 18:50Speaker 6: exactly what that is yet. Actually we haven't finalized those details,
- 18:53Speaker 6: but we're hoping that's going to be announced for twenty
- 18:55Speaker 6: twenty two.
- 18:55Speaker 4: But it's definitely a region of the country that is
- 18:58Speaker 4: like coveted. We all of our fans, the industry is
- 19:01Speaker 4: telling us this is where we need to go next,
- 19:03Speaker 4: and Ewest perfecting us. They're begging us to go to
- 19:08Speaker 4: this region of the country.
- 19:09Speaker 6: Sure, so we're so we're looking at that type of expansion,
- 19:12Speaker 6: and obviously we want to grow the education components of
- 19:15Speaker 6: all the events. You know, flag Staff is as much
- 19:17Speaker 6: as you know we have great attendance here. We're kind
- 19:20Speaker 6: of out of space here, so this is this is
- 19:23Speaker 6: when you are limited by parking at this event really
- 19:27Speaker 6: get enough shuttle space and everything. So it's so it's
- 19:31Speaker 6: a challenge here. We we love this area. We love
- 19:34Speaker 6: this place because it's so beautiful and it really lends
- 19:37Speaker 6: itself to a beautiful backdrop for Over the Next Poll.
- 19:40Speaker 2: And it'll stay in Arizona?
- 19:41Speaker 5: Are we are we thinking staying in the Southwest.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Ideally we would love for this event to stay here
- 19:47Speaker 4: and to continue to find ways to manage audience with
- 19:50Speaker 4: off site opportunities. I mean, honestly, our problem right now
- 19:54Speaker 4: is that, as you guys know, the industry is so
- 19:56Speaker 4: strong and the demand is so high that events have
- 19:58Speaker 4: gotten really large, and so trying to find spaces that
- 20:02Speaker 4: you manage.
- 20:02Speaker 2: The companies are bigger too, you know.
- 20:04Speaker 5: I mean, I remember when we first started coming to
- 20:05Speaker 5: Over the Next what everybody was camping, you know. But
- 20:08Speaker 5: now it's a it's a it's a work thing, Like
- 20:10Speaker 5: I can't have my staff camping here and working twelve
- 20:13Speaker 5: hour days and then being wrecked, Like you have to
- 20:16Speaker 5: have that infrastructure.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And I could see it though Flag there's only so
- 20:19Speaker 2: many rooms. Flag only has so much space.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Well, and what was interesting is one of the last
- 20:23Speaker 1: times that we talked, you said you hope that the
- 20:26Speaker 1: Mountain West was going to take some pressure off of
- 20:29Speaker 1: over Atland Expo.
- 20:30Speaker 4: West, but we created a new pressure.
- 20:33Speaker 2: You just had thirty thousand people show up.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I know, I know, I know.
- 20:37Speaker 6: It's like it's crazy, but it's it's good growth. You know,
- 20:40Speaker 6: it's good growth.
- 20:41Speaker 4: But thank goodness we added the Colorado event because imagine
- 20:44Speaker 4: what it would have been like here. But you know,
- 20:46Speaker 4: add in Colorado helped us to draw on some of
- 20:48Speaker 4: those Pacific Northwest companies that can't come all the way
- 20:51Speaker 4: to Arizona, so it was kind of a halfway point
- 20:54Speaker 4: for them to be a part of the show. But then,
- 20:56Speaker 4: you know, like events have gotten so big that our
- 20:58Speaker 4: challenge is finding venues that can accommodate an event of
- 21:01Speaker 4: our size but that still have the character that like
- 21:04Speaker 4: a Fort Futhill has in the beautiful pine forests and
- 21:07Speaker 4: the mountains. It's difficult, it is, it's very complicated.
- 21:10Speaker 2: They don't want to do it at like anfl stadium
- 21:12Speaker 2: or something.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Well exactly, but those places are perfect to holding events,
- 21:16Speaker 4: but not these types of events.
- 21:18Speaker 2: It'll definitely be a change of character for.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Sure, Yes, but you are going to see some changes
- 21:22Speaker 6: just in you know, the education components. And you know,
- 21:25Speaker 6: one of the things we want to do across the
- 21:26Speaker 6: board is to create very diversified education components, more maybe
- 21:31Speaker 6: even some more B to B programming. Obviously there's a
- 21:34Speaker 6: lot of folks here that already attend, a lot of
- 21:37Speaker 6: industry that obviously already attends from a boos based perspective,
- 21:41Speaker 6: but we also have like a lot of retailers that attend,
- 21:43Speaker 6: a lot of buyers that attend to you know, research
- 21:45Speaker 6: products and see what's happening on the industry. So, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 6: part of the education component this year was a panel
- 21:50Speaker 6: each each show on alternative energies and just talking about
- 21:54Speaker 6: like the future of overlanding and how you know, how
- 21:57Speaker 6: is electrification going to change the game. And you know,
- 22:00Speaker 6: we have some new you know, we have some new
- 22:02Speaker 6: technologies with like you know, propane generators, with ALP and
- 22:05Speaker 6: so it's really interesting to see, you know, the different
- 22:08Speaker 6: panelists and what they bring to the table. And you know,
- 22:10Speaker 6: solar is just not the only game in town anymore.
- 22:13Speaker 6: So there's a lot of different other things. We're interested
- 22:15Speaker 6: to see what hydrogen is going to do. You know,
- 22:16Speaker 6: this weekend we have you know, Mercedes here, Volvo here,
- 22:19Speaker 6: we have Honda here, we have you know, all the folks.
- 22:23Speaker 6: They're folks from Rivian showed up and so cool. You know,
- 22:26Speaker 6: it's just it's there's just a lot of conversation going
- 22:28Speaker 6: around about it. So I think it's important for our
- 22:30Speaker 6: audience is also to be very educated and how people
- 22:33Speaker 6: are developing that technology.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And for the most part, this community is very open
- 22:37Speaker 1: to new technology. I mean a lot of people in
- 22:40Speaker 1: the industry are technologists. These are people that are working remotely,
- 22:43Speaker 1: they're digit workers. They already see technology as part of
- 22:45Speaker 1: their daily life. I mean there's certainly ludites like myself
- 22:48Speaker 1: maybe in some ways, but but yeah, it's not only
- 22:55Speaker 1: a viight at supercharged V eight And hey, you.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Know the thing is is like that's not going anywhere.
- 23:00Speaker 4: We all know that.
- 23:01Speaker 6: So you know, it's not going anywhere. It's going to
- 23:02Speaker 6: change and develop, but like technology, it's just going to
- 23:05Speaker 6: continue to move the needle in your world. And I
- 23:06Speaker 6: think we just you know, I think that to be
- 23:08Speaker 6: at the forefront of that technology and to provide programming
- 23:11Speaker 6: for it is important.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and it'll facilitate people spending more time in the
- 23:15Speaker 1: back country like Starlink is a great example of that,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and the ability for people to work remotely broadband Internet
- 23:21Speaker 1: from pretty much anywhere. And of course that's where the
- 23:24Speaker 1: education is so important. How do we minimize the impact
- 23:26Speaker 1: of these really remote and beautiful places. So now the
- 23:29Speaker 1: next question I have is something that I've noticed in
- 23:32Speaker 1: the two of you is a very strong leadership, not
- 23:35Speaker 1: only amongst yourselves, but with you and your team and
- 23:38Speaker 1: in the industry. You both have been very active in
- 23:41Speaker 1: being leaders for overlanding in ancillary markets like Seema, outdoor
- 23:45Speaker 1: retailer and other spaces. Talk a little bit about your
- 23:48Speaker 1: values in leadership and talk about the things that you
- 23:51Speaker 1: two have learned as leaders in this space.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Oh well, there's a lot of things we could.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Just talk about YouTube being sisters.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, there was some somebody somebody spiked somebody shampoo with neir.
- 24:04Speaker 2: If I remember.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Story that is, I mean she did throw a spoon
- 24:09Speaker 3: in my head.
- 24:11Speaker 4: She in my hair.
- 24:14Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, I think I have a bruise still
- 24:16Speaker 6: on my No, it's like a gash in my forehead.
- 24:18Speaker 4: I had to have like real surgery because she threw
- 24:20Speaker 4: a spoonhead, I ruined her modeling career when sorry, you
- 24:25Speaker 4: had to become an event producer instead.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I'm going to blame my hair situation on my sister
- 24:30Speaker 1: putting near in my.
- 24:31Speaker 2: So that that's my only excuse got back she did.
- 24:35Speaker 6: I think, you know leadership, right, I wouldn't say that
- 24:38Speaker 6: we're the most fantastic leaders and that we have like
- 24:40Speaker 6: some like ten step program that you know, it's that
- 24:43Speaker 6: we could sit and talk about, right.
- 24:44Speaker 3: I think Jessica hit on it earlier.
- 24:46Speaker 6: You know, what we have here and and what we
- 24:49Speaker 6: what we acquired from Jonathan Roseanne, like it had a
- 24:52Speaker 6: foundation and that institutional knowledge and just listening, being open
- 24:56Speaker 6: to you know, new ideas and opinions, and like being
- 24:59Speaker 6: able to like take those ideas and opinions and really
- 25:01Speaker 6: help those to grow and foster those, you know.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I think we're both very good at that.
- 25:05Speaker 4: So I think we also we spend a lot of time,
- 25:09Speaker 4: you know, really listening and finding out what each team
- 25:12Speaker 4: member was at, what their strong skill set was, and
- 25:15Speaker 4: giving them an opportunity to really shine in those areas,
- 25:19Speaker 4: and then also making them take some responsibility in those
- 25:23Speaker 4: areas and tasking them with becoming experts in their field
- 25:26Speaker 4: and feeling like they were experts in their field, and
- 25:28Speaker 4: then supporting decisions that they made on sided events or
- 25:32Speaker 4: you know, in our day to day three hundred and
- 25:34Speaker 4: sixty five days a year of operating the business, and
- 25:37Speaker 4: I think our team feels like we support decisions that
- 25:39Speaker 4: they make well.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And then you also a great example of leadership is
- 25:44Speaker 1: taking responsibility for your team. COVID hits absolutely your revenue
- 25:49Speaker 1: essentially stops, and then you make the decision to not
- 25:52Speaker 1: pay yourselves and pay your people. And that those are
- 25:55Speaker 1: the kinds of things that I've heard about the character
- 25:58Speaker 1: of you two that I think our industry needs going forward.
- 26:01Speaker 4: We need to make that You're gonna make us say
- 26:03Speaker 4: the dirty p word, and it's the word pivot. You're
- 26:06Speaker 4: going to make us say that word.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Just don't say synergy, so everyone, we.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Won't say that if you guys, honestly, if you were
- 26:12Speaker 4: if we ever have to say the word pivot again
- 26:14Speaker 4: after this interview. So there's a great there's actually a
- 26:17Speaker 4: great scene from Friends when they're carrying this like couch
- 26:21Speaker 4: up this stairway and like Ross and Rachel and I
- 26:25Speaker 4: can't remember all the characters that are in it, but
- 26:27Speaker 4: they're like carrying this this couch and they're trying to
- 26:29Speaker 4: get it up around this stair, around the curner, and
- 26:32Speaker 4: they're like pivot, pivot, pivot, and Ross is like, Rachel goes,
- 26:38Speaker 4: we can't pivot anymore. We're done. That was our life
- 26:45Speaker 4: in twenty twenty, and I feel like the staff was
- 26:47Speaker 4: like that.
- 26:47Speaker 6: But at the same time, I mean, when you take
- 26:49Speaker 6: an event team, right, and it's an event team, right,
- 26:51Speaker 6: we have Eva Rupert who's a food and beverage manager.
- 26:54Speaker 3: We have Azure Neil.
- 26:56Speaker 6: Who has like logistics like moving shuttles in like place
- 26:59Speaker 6: operations and operations Queen. And then you have you know,
- 27:02Speaker 6: Anthony who he's the director of sales, Trailer and XBO Expo.
- 27:05Speaker 4: He sells booth space. But with event. Without events, we
- 27:08Speaker 4: have nothing to sell.
- 27:09Speaker 6: You can't sell booth space, you're not logistically doing anything.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Definitely don't need a food and beverage manager. So at
- 27:15Speaker 6: that point in time, and I got a great credit
- 27:17Speaker 6: out to Nick James. He's a new addition to our team.
- 27:20Speaker 6: He came on in twenty nineteen twenty and he came
- 27:25Speaker 6: up with our our editorial strategy and kind of came
- 27:28Speaker 6: up with the Compass, which is our publishing channel today.
- 27:31Speaker 6: And and he basically turned our seasoned event professionals into
- 27:37Speaker 6: editors and writers and.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Content creators, photographers, videographers. It was an amazing but.
- 27:44Speaker 6: What we found out was, you know, they are Overlanders.
- 27:47Speaker 6: They that's what this is what they do, and so
- 27:49Speaker 6: you know, like social distancing, it's what they do, you know,
- 27:53Speaker 6: so they're yeah, they're like, hey, we got this. So
- 27:57Speaker 6: our food and bev manager became our motorcycle ambassador, and
- 28:00Speaker 6: you know, Azure went from a logistics manager to our
- 28:03Speaker 6: director of programming and programmed all of our virtual events.
- 28:06Speaker 6: You know, it's in Anthony. He's a fantastic writer and
- 28:10Speaker 6: he's so inspirational in the way that he tells stories.
- 28:12Speaker 6: So you know, all of these folks became extremely important to.
- 28:17Speaker 4: You know, but at the.
- 28:19Speaker 6: End of it, what we ended up with was, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 6: this this absolutely fantastic group of folks. And on top
- 28:24Speaker 6: of that, our virtual strategy. We had people, we had
- 28:27Speaker 6: what thirty six thousand people attend our virtual education that
- 28:31Speaker 6: had never visited Overlandexpo dot com before. So we knew
- 28:34Speaker 6: that those people were there. They're craving education and so
- 28:36Speaker 6: and our people, like the team, they were amazing in
- 28:40Speaker 6: the way that they.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Were able to do that. Everything with those of virtual
- 28:42Speaker 4: events was that was kept in house with our core
- 28:45Speaker 4: team of professionals. They produced all of that. Now I'm
- 28:49Speaker 4: not kidding you. There was a lot of crying. Yeah,
- 28:52Speaker 4: I mean the day that he announced it, we did,
- 28:55Speaker 4: and then we cried again, and then we pivoted. And
- 28:59Speaker 4: I think that in the big they thought we were crazy.
- 29:01Speaker 4: They really did think we were crazy, but then they
- 29:03Speaker 4: were like, this makes sense. And today we have basically
- 29:08Speaker 4: diversified our portfolio and made ourselves more valuable to the community.
- 29:13Speaker 1: So question, yeah, you found other ways to tell these
- 29:15Speaker 1: great stories that you've been telling in person.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Yes, now you're able to tell it through video.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And Eva has done an amazing job with that and
- 29:23Speaker 1: the rest of your team, and you've got your editorial
- 29:26Speaker 1: is fantastic. Yes, and people are following that, which is
- 29:30Speaker 1: I think so so important.
- 29:31Speaker 6: And we are going to be launching in twenty twenty two.
- 29:33Speaker 6: It'll be a pretty interesting educational virtual education and video strategy,
- 29:38Speaker 6: so look forward to that rolling out. We also launched
- 29:41Speaker 6: a program called Why We Roam this Year, which is
- 29:43Speaker 6: a video a compilation video of like all of our
- 29:46Speaker 6: community ambassadors, and it highlights great Overlanders in the community,
- 29:49Speaker 6: you know, not necessarily our team, but like just folks
- 29:52Speaker 6: that are doing really great things, you know, in the community.
- 29:55Speaker 1: We're going to take a brief break and we will
- 29:57Speaker 1: be right back this week's episode. Code is supported in
- 30:01Speaker 1: part by Icamper to make innovative hardshell and soft sided
- 30:06Speaker 1: roof tents that are designed to survive long term overland use.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Their revolutionary X cover won the Overland Journal Editor's Choice Award,
- 30:14Speaker 1: eliminating the bulky PBC cover and also allowing for the
- 30:18Speaker 1: fitment of crossbars for carrying bikes and kayaks. Their Skycamp
- 30:22Speaker 1: Mini is another award winning design that provides a hardshell
- 30:26Speaker 1: tent in the footprint of a much smaller clamshell model.
- 30:29Speaker 1: This is the perfect solution for smaller vehicles or on
- 30:33Speaker 1: vehicles where rack space is dedicated to other systems. I
- 30:36Speaker 1: Camper believes that the best times are those spent traveling
- 30:40Speaker 1: discovering the world with those you love most. You can
- 30:43Speaker 1: find out more about their quality tents at icamper dot
- 30:46Speaker 1: com very cool. Yes, well, it's impressive to see what
- 30:51Speaker 1: you've done.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Thank you, we appreciate that.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But it wasn't I really will run this year. But
- 30:56Speaker 2: there's like super tidy.
- 30:58Speaker 4: You want something, don't you.
- 31:00Speaker 2: You want something that has only.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Thank you for saying that. We had our challenges this year.
- 31:09Speaker 2: It wasn't on the it wasn't on the surface. I
- 31:11Speaker 2: didn't see it.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Well, well, by design, that's good. We like to be
- 31:14Speaker 4: ducks on the water right under.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I didn't. Here's some ambulance last night. Hopefully everybody's okay.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Everybody.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Everybody's okay. Everybody's okay, just maybe a little bit too much.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Too much to drink.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Wait was that me?
- 31:28Speaker 3: You don't remember that.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Too?
- 31:33Speaker 2: Funny? Blame all of the hangovers on Paul May. Oh.
- 31:36Speaker 5: Yes, every year on Sunday, I have this idea. One
- 31:39Speaker 5: day a year, I blame Paul May. I hand them
- 31:43Speaker 5: out to all of people that have hangout.
- 31:47Speaker 2: T shirts. I like this, we should have Paul.
- 31:49Speaker 5: But we're going to forget it after this day, and
- 31:51Speaker 5: then I'm going to bring it up again.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Next year in May. Next May. So is there a
- 31:56Speaker 2: date for next year?
- 31:57Speaker 4: It is going to be around like the third weekend in.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Okay, so back to the regular.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Regular, traditional dates. So we'll announce our full schedule in November.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Okay, awesome.
- 32:07Speaker 3: So I got to ask you, what was your favorite
- 32:09Speaker 3: part about the show this year?
- 32:11Speaker 5: Having a lot of people in my booth buying things,
- 32:15Speaker 5: I mean I could lie, no, I mean it was packed.
- 32:21Speaker 5: We did a lot of classes, which was really cool
- 32:23Speaker 5: to be able to put that in the source book.
- 32:24Speaker 2: And we brought seven PM to assist with the teaching.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Great.
- 32:28Speaker 5: You know, I love the Equipped party every year, and
- 32:29Speaker 5: I think it's really cool that that's kind of been
- 32:31Speaker 5: allowed to stay because that is that is the old
- 32:35Speaker 5: Guard get together and I think that that's it's really
- 32:38Speaker 5: really important and it's it's so cool to see that
- 32:41Speaker 5: it was a.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Pivot, YEAHVOT pivot.
- 32:45Speaker 5: Yes, that was great. I mean that's that's something that
- 32:47Speaker 5: I look forward to. I mean, especially after the year
- 32:49Speaker 5: that we all are we saying it was two years now,
- 32:53Speaker 5: I don't know what, I don't know, Yeah, yeah, after
- 32:56Speaker 5: COVID nineteen and twenty one. It was just nice. It
- 33:00Speaker 5: felt like the world was kind of starting to get
- 33:01Speaker 5: back to normal. Ye last night, and that was that
- 33:04Speaker 5: was my favorite part.
- 33:05Speaker 2: What about you, Scott.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Well, personally, it's always wonderful to see people that I
- 33:10Speaker 1: love and that have been a part of my life
- 33:12Speaker 1: for a long time. I mean, we've been doing this
- 33:14Speaker 1: for twenty years, so to see these people that have
- 33:17Speaker 1: made my life possible because of their support is always
- 33:20Speaker 1: just really meaningful to me. As a business, one of
- 33:23Speaker 1: the things that was really fun is we launched the
- 33:26Speaker 1: podcast in It was a few days before Christmas in
- 33:29Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, and then there were no events. Now we
- 33:32Speaker 1: knew that podcast was doing well, like statistically it was
- 33:35Speaker 1: doing very well. We had no idea if anybody in
- 33:37Speaker 1: our community was listening. Maybe these were those ancillary folks
- 33:41Speaker 1: or people don't but it has been NonStop at this
- 33:44Speaker 1: event e very much. How much people have enjoyed the podcast.
- 33:48Speaker 1: We just went over a half a million downloads. So
- 33:51Speaker 1: there's things that are happening that are really meaningful. But
- 33:53Speaker 1: the thing that was most meaningful to me is the
- 33:55Speaker 1: person walking into the booth and saying we love the podcast.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Tracking us down. Yeah, it was great.
- 34:00Speaker 4: I mean, like I really I love the connection.
- 34:01Speaker 2: I was also a.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Little bit mad because I've been writing for ten years
- 34:04Speaker 5: and doing these significant trips and now I do this
- 34:07Speaker 5: stupid podcast. That's what people are like that, I mean
- 34:10Speaker 5: up to me.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it. I mean like it's cool, it's great,
- 34:13Speaker 2: it's awesome.
- 34:14Speaker 3: You're a total celebrity. Did I have your autograph?
- 34:18Speaker 2: I didn't. I only had Scott ask for my autograph.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Oh that's right exactly. I'm still trying to be as
- 34:25Speaker 2: cool as Matt.
- 34:25Speaker 3: It's okay, I'll ask you for it.
- 34:27Speaker 2: My T shirt shirt. There is a fee.
- 34:32Speaker 3: It is it an upgraded boose face.
- 34:37Speaker 1: So that has been that's been really fun and reinforcing.
- 34:41Speaker 1: And of course it's just so many people here we've
- 34:43Speaker 1: known for so long because we've been doing this for
- 34:45Speaker 1: a very long time. Even even people all the way
- 34:48Speaker 1: back to the Expedition Trophy days. I ran into Justin
- 34:50Speaker 1: Pitt Karen who was like he was famous from the
- 34:53Speaker 1: Expedition Trophy of jumping his jeep and his Adventure.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Trailer and I remember that, Oh wow.
- 34:58Speaker 1: And a great friend. And just run into folks like
- 35:01Speaker 1: that is really meaningful to me. So the event is
- 35:05Speaker 1: so wonderfully run, and it's a it's a testament to
- 35:08Speaker 1: what this community is capable of. I think not only
- 35:11Speaker 1: the industry of this community, but the individuals. I guess
- 35:14Speaker 1: that leads me to another question is what do you
- 35:17Speaker 1: see going forward? What should people anticipate going forward? What
- 35:21Speaker 1: are you trying to promote more of where you'd like
- 35:24Speaker 1: to have some maybe industry support. What areas do you
- 35:26Speaker 1: see the industry going that people should know about.
- 35:29Speaker 6: Well, I definitely say I'm very passionate about this. So
- 35:32Speaker 6: I serve on a couple of different boards. One is
- 35:34Speaker 6: the SEMA Board of Directors is something that I took
- 35:36Speaker 6: on this June.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Congratulations for that, by the way.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 35:39Speaker 6: I appreciate your endorsement too, of course, Scott. So I
- 35:43Speaker 6: also serve on the Off Road Business Association. We're very
- 35:46Speaker 6: active with TRED lately. And you know, one of the
- 35:47Speaker 6: things that obviously you know in twenty twenty, we had
- 35:50Speaker 6: so many people get out and start recreating, and again,
- 35:53Speaker 6: you know, it goes back to education. You know, folks
- 35:55Speaker 6: when they're out there, they really do have to recreate
- 35:58Speaker 6: responsibly because it's really important.
- 36:00Speaker 2: There's so many people on the trails now, right.
- 36:02Speaker 4: So many?
- 36:03Speaker 6: Yes, Yeah, I mean it's and I think that foundation
- 36:06Speaker 6: of education and is really important. But also you know,
- 36:09Speaker 6: as people that promote products in this industry, and Overland
- 36:13Speaker 6: Expo is a place where you can come and get
- 36:14Speaker 6: geared up, right, But all of the people that participate
- 36:17Speaker 6: in this event or any event, you know, if you're
- 36:19Speaker 6: whether you're going to an off road event or you're
- 36:21Speaker 6: going to an expot to sell whatever it is. But
- 36:24Speaker 6: if you create a product in this industry, you have
- 36:26Speaker 6: an obligation you do, you really do to create some
- 36:29Speaker 6: kind of messaging around recording and responsibly because at the
- 36:32Speaker 6: end of the.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Day, like we don't have an industry wells. What happened
- 36:35Speaker 5: with rock crawling, right is that was a huge thing.
- 36:38Speaker 5: Then all the places started getting closed because people were
- 36:41Speaker 5: recreating responsibly.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Yes, and you know it's I just think it's really.
- 36:44Speaker 5: That's what terrifies you with the UTV thing is it's
- 36:47Speaker 5: such a big industry. But I have to say, like
- 36:48Speaker 5: I go to moabb A, even go you know locally
- 36:50Speaker 5: around Prescott and things are so torn up right now. Yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 5: and then even camping areas like the van life thing
- 36:58Speaker 5: and the overload thing is so popular that they're.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Haul out your poop please.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I mean like Moab literally had to shut down all
- 37:07Speaker 1: camping because of human feces like if we cannot be
- 37:11Speaker 1: adult enough to haul out our own poop, right, yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 1: then we really deserve to be in.
- 37:16Speaker 2: The back country.
- 37:17Speaker 5: And I know it's basic, right, I know it is
- 37:19Speaker 5: an education thing, but you know, there's so many people
- 37:22Speaker 5: that are new to this, and there's so many people
- 37:24Speaker 5: that are in the pandemic left the cities. Yes, I
- 37:28Speaker 5: mean I talked to so many people today. They worked
- 37:30Speaker 5: for Google, or they worked for Facebook, or they worked
- 37:32Speaker 5: for whatever. They had like never camped or done anything before.
- 37:35Speaker 5: So they go to Moab and they think I'm in
- 37:38Speaker 5: the middle of nowhere, and it's like, no, you're not, Like, like,
- 37:41Speaker 5: there's there's gonna be thousands of people that drive down
- 37:44Speaker 5: that trail each day, and if each one of them
- 37:46Speaker 5: does this, you know, goes a little bit wider on
- 37:49Speaker 5: the trail or something, you end up.
- 37:50Speaker 2: With highways, yes, and then they're closed and.
- 37:53Speaker 5: Then they're closed, right and then and then we don't
- 37:55Speaker 5: have you know, if we don't have the places for
- 37:57Speaker 5: people to recreate, we don't as an industry have you know,
- 38:00Speaker 5: the ability to sell products to those people.
- 38:03Speaker 2: You know, we saw that with rock Crome. We've already
- 38:05Speaker 2: seen it. We've already been through it.
- 38:07Speaker 5: You know, there has to be that responsible voice, like
- 38:09Speaker 5: I've always advocated and say in the podcast, like we
- 38:12Speaker 5: need to work with the Forest Service, we need to
- 38:14Speaker 5: work with BLM to ensure that there are areas for
- 38:18Speaker 5: overlanders to go because right now it's just you know,
- 38:22Speaker 5: we're running on like a nineteen seventies management plan or something.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Right I'm not saying that's the actual case, but it
- 38:28Speaker 5: sure seems like it.
- 38:29Speaker 6: There are you know, and I got to give credit
- 38:30Speaker 6: where credits due. I mean, there are places in this
- 38:32Speaker 6: country that do not should not be motorized relation.
- 38:36Speaker 4: I mean, it just is what it is.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why we have wilderness areas.
- 38:39Speaker 3: That's right, and there is there's a place for that.
- 38:41Speaker 6: And again, you know, this public land debate, like we
- 38:44Speaker 6: can all recreate responsibly, and we can all be in
- 38:46Speaker 6: this public land debate and we can use our public lands.
- 38:49Speaker 4: But you know, I do.
- 38:50Speaker 6: Think that if you, if you serve a product up
- 38:52Speaker 6: to this industry, we as you know, industry leaders in
- 38:55Speaker 6: this community, we really have to take the stance of
- 38:57Speaker 6: protecting you know, protecting.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Our to recreate.
- 39:01Speaker 6: What's a lot of that is us educating the community
- 39:04Speaker 6: and so starting a movement of you know, responsible recreation.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I don't think it's a terrible thing, So it's not.
- 39:10Speaker 1: It's really it's essential for our future, and it's essential
- 39:13Speaker 1: for future generations to be able to enjoy, yeah, the
- 39:17Speaker 1: backcountry the same way that we have. I mean, I
- 39:19Speaker 1: hope that my nephews get a chance to see the
- 39:21Speaker 1: same places that I have. And if we keep going
- 39:23Speaker 1: out with groups of twenty or thirty vehicles, it's not
- 39:26Speaker 1: going to happen.
- 39:27Speaker 2: It's just not responsible.
- 39:28Speaker 6: Well, and there are there's so much of this country
- 39:31Speaker 6: that you I mean you can't see it on foot. No,
- 39:33Speaker 6: you can't see it on foot, and you can't see it,
- 39:35Speaker 6: I mean even on a mountain bike. You know, are
- 39:37Speaker 6: places that you do need the you know, an OHV
- 39:41Speaker 6: access you know area. But I just hope that I agree.
- 39:44Speaker 6: I hope twenty years from now that you know, we're
- 39:46Speaker 6: still promoting Overland Expo and we still can get out
- 39:49Speaker 6: there because it's really important. I mean, there's no reason
- 39:51Speaker 6: to come to an overland extvo to get trained and
- 39:52Speaker 6: inspired if you can't go anywhere.
- 39:56Speaker 1: So we all have to work together on that, and
- 39:58Speaker 1: I think that that's that is that is so important
- 40:00Speaker 1: and it's so refreshing to hear you both say that
- 40:02Speaker 1: and acknowledge that the future of our industry includes responsible use.
- 40:07Speaker 1: And we talk about it on the podcast all the time,
- 40:09Speaker 1: because we don't have a future if we don't do that.
- 40:12Speaker 5: And there's a lot of places to go, you know.
- 40:15Speaker 5: I think one of the traps that the industry falls in,
- 40:18Speaker 5: and honestly, us as media fall into, is we kind
- 40:21Speaker 5: of we tend to promote the same places, like stop
- 40:24Speaker 5: going on the Mojave Road.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's getting loved to death.
- 40:27Speaker 5: You know, like so much, like stop going to Moab.
- 40:30Speaker 5: The best part about somebody who loves Utah like I
- 40:33Speaker 5: love Utah is Moab because that's where everybody goes. It's
- 40:36Speaker 5: it's you know, it's the it's the it's the magnet
- 40:39Speaker 5: for everything, and it leaves everything else, like you, completely untouched.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I mean, open up a map, look for a road
- 40:45Speaker 1: in the middle of nowhere and go.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Check it out.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, try something, Try something new, try something new,
- 40:51Speaker 1: reduce your impact, don't don't geotag your campsites on social media.
- 40:57Speaker 2: There's just a lot that we can do.
- 40:58Speaker 1: These are basic thing is that allow us to preserve
- 41:01Speaker 1: these places for future generations. We're so fortunate to live
- 41:04Speaker 1: in this country, and we're so fortunate to have public
- 41:07Speaker 1: as access and that involves keeping it that way.
- 41:10Speaker 3: So Scott, when are you going to take Jessica and
- 41:13Speaker 3: I not not to pressure you on the vodcast.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Have you been to Baja? Let's go, let's go.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Well, I've to, but not that way, not that way though.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Yeah, do you have trucks?
- 41:26Speaker 4: We can take our ultimate bills.
- 41:27Speaker 2: There you go, take the ultimate for we can take
- 41:30Speaker 2: the ultimate bills we may have.
- 41:32Speaker 3: You were going to say, I thought you were going
- 41:33Speaker 3: to say, like Mongolia.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's what I said the week exactly. Well,
- 41:40Speaker 2: the plan always was Silk Road with the Gladiator.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right. So did you start We're planning this
- 41:45Speaker 5: Africa trip. That's a little bit secret.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Not secret anymore secret.
- 41:49Speaker 2: It's a little bit secret. More more secrets are no
- 41:52Speaker 2: fund The car is secret cars.
- 41:55Speaker 4: It's not Africa.
- 41:56Speaker 5: I mean, what were we talking. We're talking southernmost point
- 41:59Speaker 5: to the high point, to the lowest point to the
- 42:01Speaker 5: northernmost point. It sounds, but getting through Libya right.
- 42:04Speaker 4: Now is a little a little challenging.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I met friends in Libya. Yeah, we'll figure it out.
- 42:08Speaker 6: So have you have you also, I mean has overseas
- 42:12Speaker 6: and internationally. I mean obviously we usually have a lot
- 42:14Speaker 6: of international instructors that come, you know to Overland Expo,
- 42:17Speaker 6: and we weren't able to host those folks this year.
- 42:19Speaker 6: But have you seen you know, travel you know, ease
- 42:21Speaker 6: up overseas.
- 42:22Speaker 1: No, it's it's still a challenge, which is for example,
- 42:26Speaker 1: why I stepped onto a sailboat to go out the
- 42:28Speaker 1: middle of the Pacific. So as a traveler, it's hard
- 42:31Speaker 1: to get places. As a traveler, I found a different way.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Matt was just able to go to Tanzania recently.
- 42:36Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was not easy, like getting to the
- 42:38Speaker 5: Serengeti right now. You know, South African airlines shut.
- 42:42Speaker 2: You can't fly.
- 42:42Speaker 5: Through Ethiopia because they're like at war, you know, So
- 42:45Speaker 5: you have to go through all these different places, and
- 42:47Speaker 5: then you have the requirements of all the COVID testing.
- 42:49Speaker 5: You have to jump through all the hoops, which there's
- 42:51Speaker 5: If there's hoops, that's great, you can jump through. But
- 42:53Speaker 5: it's just not attainable for most people. I mean it
- 42:56Speaker 5: was our honeymoon, so we were willing to spend a
- 42:58Speaker 5: little bit more, but we probably spent two thousand dollars
- 43:00Speaker 5: on COVID testing for our honeymoon.
- 43:02Speaker 3: That's incredible.
- 43:04Speaker 6: Well, like one of our favorite seven P trainers like
- 43:06Speaker 6: came in, you know, Duncan Barber, He's absolutely fantastic, came on,
- 43:10Speaker 6: came in from Scotland. I think he was stuck during
- 43:12Speaker 6: Mountain West during our actual show in Colorado for two
- 43:15Speaker 6: weeks in Mexico City because he was like, I'm not
- 43:17Speaker 6: missing West, yes, And now there were other seven P
- 43:21Speaker 6: trainers that were stuck in the Virgin Islands and I
- 43:23Speaker 6: was like, I would rather be stuck in the Virgin Island.
- 43:25Speaker 4: That terrible.
- 43:29Speaker 2: They both sound great, but worst place.
- 43:34Speaker 4: I think so too. We were we were sad though
- 43:37Speaker 4: that you know, some of our core presenters like Simon
- 43:39Speaker 4: and Lisa Thomas, Ted Simon and Sam Manicom. You know,
- 43:43Speaker 4: these guys weren't able to come over this year, and
- 43:46Speaker 4: that broke us, broke our hearts because we want you
- 43:49Speaker 4: always see them here and they're staples at this show.
- 43:51Speaker 2: And they're so inspiring, so wonderful.
- 43:54Speaker 4: They're such incredible supporters of this event. Sam sent Lindsay
- 43:58Speaker 4: and I both separate emails last week, just words of
- 44:01Speaker 4: encouragement and you guys are doing a great job.
- 44:03Speaker 3: We support what you're doing. Can't wait to see you
- 44:05Speaker 3: when we see you.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Well, I think at the moment is that we have
- 44:08Speaker 1: to be just as we do when we travel. We
- 44:11Speaker 1: have to be adaptable, we have to be open minded.
- 44:14Speaker 1: We're not going to be able to go the places
- 44:15Speaker 1: that we want, so we will find a way. Adventure
- 44:18Speaker 1: will find a way. And that may mean like Mexico
- 44:21Speaker 1: right now is open, so that's a place for people
- 44:23Speaker 1: to go. There are Canada just opened up in the
- 44:27Speaker 1: last couple of weeks, so there are possibilities for people
- 44:30Speaker 1: to go and travel. It just may be different than
- 44:33Speaker 1: what we originally planned. And I think that that's part
- 44:35Speaker 1: of what makes travel so interesting is that you know,
- 44:38Speaker 1: I've rocked up at borders and i find out that
- 44:41Speaker 1: the country's at war, and I'm like, I've got to
- 44:42Speaker 1: find another way, and you find another you find you
- 44:46Speaker 1: find another way, And I think that that's part of
- 44:49Speaker 1: the joy of travel, is being able to adapt to that.
- 44:53Speaker 1: And I think that that is one of the call
- 44:54Speaker 1: marks of this event is that you have always brought
- 44:57Speaker 1: in these thought leaders, these truly experienced travelers, not just
- 45:00Speaker 1: good marketers, real travelers. It's easy to fill a docative
- 45:04Speaker 1: salespeople that are going to tell people what they should
- 45:07Speaker 1: buy when they don't really need to buy much of
- 45:09Speaker 1: all of it. But you haven't done that. You've brought
- 45:12Speaker 1: in real travelers that have been around the world and
- 45:14Speaker 1: they're inspiring people, they're educating people, and they may buy
- 45:17Speaker 1: some things along the way, but that's not the premise
- 45:20Speaker 1: of it. And I think that that's the most important thing,
- 45:22Speaker 1: and that for me, that is why I still believe
- 45:25Speaker 1: in this event as much as I do, is that
- 45:27Speaker 1: you both have shown incredible leadership even through this crisis.
- 45:30Speaker 1: You've taken good care of your people, and then you've
- 45:32Speaker 1: taken good care of the community by reinforcing training a
- 45:35Speaker 1: love for travel, not making the vehicles and the gear
- 45:38Speaker 1: the forefront. And I think that that says a lot
- 45:41Speaker 1: about you too.
- 45:42Speaker 4: It's really all about the people, and we truly believe that.
- 45:45Speaker 4: And you know what you were saying about the education series.
- 45:48Speaker 4: There's a lot of demand for brands to be involved
- 45:50Speaker 4: in education, and we are dedicated to keeping that agnostic
- 45:55Speaker 4: because we really feel like it's all about the people.
- 45:57Speaker 4: And their stories and their experiences, and we want to
- 46:00Speaker 4: keep that clean. Yes, definitely.
- 46:02Speaker 6: Well, and Scott, we have to give you a shout
- 46:04Speaker 6: out because I know that you had a hand and
- 46:06Speaker 6: helping this event rise to where it is today being
- 46:08Speaker 6: a great media partner and also make part of the
- 46:10Speaker 6: contributing team that helped us.
- 46:12Speaker 1: It's been has been. It has been so fun, the
- 46:15Speaker 1: entire process. I'm so I'm so grateful for all of it.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And of course I am just a very small cog
- 46:20Speaker 1: in my own team's wheel. And I'm just fortunate again
- 46:23Speaker 1: to like you two. I'm so fortunate to have an
- 46:25Speaker 1: amazing team of people that are all smarter than I am.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Thank goodness.
- 46:29Speaker 4: So we feel the same.
- 46:33Speaker 2: We're really lucky.
- 46:34Speaker 5: So for sure, everybody your office always asks me like,
- 46:37Speaker 5: when can Scott travel again?
- 46:41Speaker 2: Don't you want to go somewhere? Please leave? Please leave?
- 46:46Speaker 2: I love that. That's good. Okay, we're all on the
- 46:47Speaker 2: same page. That's so good.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Well, you know, it's really interesting because last year when
- 46:54Speaker 4: we weren't traveling as much, I mean we used to
- 46:56Speaker 4: be on the road every other week.
- 46:58Speaker 6: And you know, we give a shout out to our
- 47:00Speaker 6: husbands because we go home all year last year. Yeah,
- 47:04Speaker 6: and they have never had us around that much, and
- 47:07Speaker 6: they were.
- 47:07Speaker 4: Like, Wow, that's a lot of time together, a lot
- 47:10Speaker 4: of togetherness, a lot of togetherness.
- 47:13Speaker 1: So this will be a fun question for each of you.
- 47:16Speaker 1: What is the place that you've been on your own
- 47:18Speaker 1: travels that you loved the most, the place that you
- 47:21Speaker 1: are drawn to in your own travels that you've really
- 47:24Speaker 1: you've really loved.
- 47:25Speaker 5: Well.
- 47:26Speaker 6: One of the reasons we wanted to launch in Colorado
- 47:28Speaker 6: was not only to relieve this event of some tension
- 47:32Speaker 6: and to give it and give other, you know, other
- 47:34Speaker 6: options for folks. But I guess I am speaking for
- 47:37Speaker 6: Jessica and myself and this that you know, Colorado has
- 47:40Speaker 6: always been a state that we absolutely love.
- 47:42Speaker 3: We've vacation there since we were a little kids.
- 47:44Speaker 4: The rockies are always calling us, the mountains are always
- 47:48Speaker 4: We're avid snow skiers, so any day of the week
- 47:51Speaker 4: we'd rather be on the slopes, honestly so.
- 47:53Speaker 3: And we love the summers out there. We love the
- 47:55Speaker 3: hike and kayaking.
- 47:57Speaker 4: There's not a bad season.
- 47:58Speaker 2: No, I actually love any apples in the summer.
- 48:00Speaker 4: Oh it's not bad.
- 48:05Speaker 2: I can actually I can actually hear what it is.
- 48:09Speaker 4: We love Indianapolis in the summer because that's where our
- 48:11Speaker 4: friends are, family, where we grew up, but we'd rather
- 48:15Speaker 4: be in Colorado in the summer.
- 48:17Speaker 2: So good timing. Why not make an event a place
- 48:19Speaker 2: that you want to spend time.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Honestly, since we've been producing events, we always said we
- 48:23Speaker 4: wanted to produce an event in Colorado. So selfishly we
- 48:27Speaker 4: did add that event. But also because it's an adventure Mecca,
- 48:29Speaker 4: we knew the totally the demand was there, but it
- 48:32Speaker 4: was a great opportunity to expand.
- 48:34Speaker 2: That was a great choice for sure.
- 48:36Speaker 3: But we are we're mountain dwellers. We love the cool more.
- 48:40Speaker 2: That's your favorite town in Colorado?
- 48:42Speaker 4: Tell you right, you did.
- 48:47Speaker 2: We were just there a couple of weeks ago. Got
- 48:49Speaker 2: married there.
- 48:52Speaker 3: I'll tell you what. My husband and I have been
- 48:54Speaker 3: looking at places in oray I.
- 48:57Speaker 2: My father in law grew up in ur O.
- 48:59Speaker 3: My god, I love it there.
- 49:01Speaker 4: She has family that just her on her husband's side.
- 49:04Speaker 4: They just bought a place in Leadville.
- 49:06Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Leadville, Colorado, and so we spent some time there.
- 49:10Speaker 6: Right after Mountain West. We actually went out for about
- 49:12Speaker 6: two weeks and spent some time there.
- 49:13Speaker 4: So Lindsay took her mother in law out in our
- 49:15Speaker 4: ultimate Forerunner and my mother in law, oh.
- 49:18Speaker 2: My gosh, I mean that went okay.
- 49:20Speaker 6: This is an eighty year old woman and she literally
- 49:22Speaker 6: could not stop taking pictures. I mean she was like, now,
- 49:25Speaker 6: that's normal. She does love to take.
- 49:27Speaker 3: But she does love to take.
- 49:28Speaker 4: Yes.
- 49:29Speaker 3: But I'll tell you what she was like, put me
- 49:31Speaker 3: in that Forerunner, lady, let's go love it.
- 49:34Speaker 4: And she brought some chocolate chip cookies with her too.
- 49:36Speaker 3: That's right, she's the cookie maker, man. Like, we lived
- 49:39Speaker 3: on cookies for like three days.
- 49:41Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Is there anything that you two would like to share
- 49:45Speaker 1: with our audience Before we ask how they can find
- 49:48Speaker 1: out more information about the event.
- 49:49Speaker 4: I just want to say thank you, Yes, thank you
- 49:52Speaker 4: to everyone. Thank you this weekend for everyone's patience. We
- 49:55Speaker 4: had tremendous walk up at this event that we weren't
- 49:58Speaker 4: even expecting, and there was a lot of folks that
- 50:01Speaker 4: had a lot of patience with us with the shuttle buses,
- 50:03Speaker 4: and we appreciate that more than you know. We are
- 50:05Speaker 4: working diligently behind the scenes to add more shuttle busses
- 50:08Speaker 4: and get people into the events faster and create better
- 50:11Speaker 4: experiences around pretty much for every event that we're producing.
- 50:15Speaker 4: So we just appreciate the fans, we appre appreciate the
- 50:18Speaker 4: community or followers, and we're just excited to hopefully produce
- 50:22Speaker 4: more really cool live event experience as well and bring
- 50:25Speaker 4: forth event.
- 50:26Speaker 1: A fourth event is very exciting, so we look forward
- 50:28Speaker 1: to hearing the announcement on that, which we'll of course
- 50:31Speaker 1: share with our audience as well.
- 50:33Speaker 3: Scott, we may give you like a heads up.
- 50:36Speaker 2: I like that, we like this.
- 50:38Speaker 4: We like to make sure you know that.
- 50:39Speaker 2: I like that. I appreciate that very much.
- 50:42Speaker 1: How do people find out more information about Overland Expo
- 50:46Speaker 1: your compass content channel, and how do they find out
- 50:50Speaker 1: more also about your new not.
- 50:51Speaker 4: For profit Everything is accessible at Overlindexpo dot com. That's
- 50:55Speaker 4: kind of a hub of all of our information, and
- 50:57Speaker 4: then we have little spolks on the wheel. From there,
- 50:59Speaker 4: you find it all at overl Andexpo dot com.
- 51:01Speaker 1: And then on Instagram you're at Overland Expo, and then

- 51:14Speaker 2: to do.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I I like, I downloaded it and I'm like, this
- 51:17Speaker 1: doesn't this isn't working.
- 51:18Speaker 4: Do you have a TikTok?
- 51:19Speaker 2: I do not have a TikTok? Do people? That's like
- 51:22Speaker 2: we're the dancing I don't dance and I don't sing
- 51:25Speaker 2: and I don't have a.
- 51:26Speaker 4: How about right after this podcast we go film a

- 51:42Speaker 3: This overland Expo West talk t Yeah.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Matt, any other questions for these two amazing humans here.
- 51:50Speaker 5: I'm just so excited that the event has kept its soul,
- 51:53Speaker 5: you know that. I think that was the worry, that
- 51:55Speaker 5: was the that was the chatter, and you know, it
- 51:57Speaker 5: just it's.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Over and expot but it's kind of just run by.
- 52:02Speaker 5: I mean not to say that like Jonathan Rosen didn't
- 52:03Speaker 5: run it well, it's just like they did their very
- 52:05Speaker 5: best professionally run events, you know, and it's grown, which
- 52:10Speaker 5: grows the industry.
- 52:12Speaker 2: It's just nice to see.
- 52:13Speaker 4: Yes, thank you, it is a family owned and operated business.
- 52:18Speaker 4: Lindsay and I are sisters. We work together every single day.
- 52:22Speaker 4: We make a lot of decisions while drinking wine. So
- 52:25Speaker 4: we hope you like our decisions.
- 52:28Speaker 6: Yes, but yeah, and I think the team, you know,
- 52:31Speaker 6: the team enjoys the fact that you know their voices
- 52:33Speaker 6: are heard.
- 52:34Speaker 3: They can throw up a crazy idea.
- 52:36Speaker 4: And we're like, well, I don't know. You want to
- 52:38Speaker 4: throw some money at that sea. If it works. We
- 52:39Speaker 4: throw things at the wall to see if they stick.
- 52:41Speaker 1: All the time, all the pivots say it again and
- 52:45Speaker 1: on that bombshell. Thank you both so much for being
- 52:50Speaker 1: on the podcast, and thank you for your leadership in
- 52:52Speaker 1: the community and being an inspiration to so many of us.
- 52:55Speaker 1: You've done a great favor to this community with what
- 52:58Speaker 1: you're doing, and we cannot wait to see what comes next.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Thank you guys very much.
- 53:02Speaker 2: You're so welcome.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Thank you, and we thank you all for listening, and
