- 1:15Speaker 1: have agreed on a new arena deal in Chinatown for there,
- 1:18Speaker 1: we're gonna get into a ton of Eagles talk, a

- 1:23Speaker 1: week and what we're throwing down on the table.
- 1:25Speaker 2: We've got egg Kratz from the Philadelphia Eagles on SI.
- 1:29Speaker 1: He's going to be joining us to dive into what
- 1:31Speaker 1: we've seen from this team after three weeks and what's
- 1:34Speaker 1: in store for them in the future as we're early
- 1:36Speaker 1: in this season. I am Jeff Warren and I'm here
- 1:39Speaker 1: at my buddy, Eric Leonard, Eric, buddy, How you doing, man.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I'm good man. Good. Interesting time of the year right
- 1:46Speaker 3: now for Philly sports. Got the Sixers coming up training
- 1:49Speaker 3: camp starts. Yep, Phillies are saving the city because the
- 1:53Speaker 3: Eagles are shaky as hell. Yeah, I would say, even
- 1:56Speaker 3: though they won and that other team starts, so.
- 2:01Speaker 1: They've had a couple of preseason games the Flyers. That's cute, ye,
- 2:07Speaker 1: good stuff. Mattve Mitch CoV has made his debut.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Mitch Comstein. What was the name?
- 2:13Speaker 2: Oh, yes, Mitch Comstein. Have I remained in college?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, Kelly. Do they play those at the ice skating
- 2:22Speaker 3: ring by City Hall?
- 2:23Speaker 2: They play pick up sticks? Yes?
- 2:28Speaker 3: No, I'm on the Twitter again with PST notifications on
- 2:33Speaker 3: Man and Charlie O'Connor is just lighting it up. Oh yes,
- 2:38Speaker 3: oh my gosh, forty a day. Yes, he does a
- 2:41Speaker 3: great job. I'm just saying exactly. I gotta tell you,
- 2:46Speaker 3: phl Y, they do a great job. They do with
- 2:49Speaker 3: their content and stuff. Charlie's fantastic. He has our friend
- 2:54Speaker 3: Kelly Hinkle on every now and again. Bill Matts is
- 2:57Speaker 3: on over there too, And I love how I'm like
- 2:58Speaker 3: promoing other podcasts and other platforms. But still they do
- 3:03Speaker 3: a fantastic job and they still come on this podcast,
- 3:06Speaker 3: so I appreciate it. Yeah, I agree, I agree. And
- 3:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna be starting coaching soon again, next like seven months.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I'll definitely have some stories.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Okay, oh nice, I can't wait for him. Can't wait
- 3:17Speaker 2: for him.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Well, shitty shitty parents stories, kids saying crazy stuff.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, Well this week, folks, you know something Eric
- 3:26Speaker 1: and I were talking about possibly doing and I don't
- 3:29Speaker 1: want to well, I probably shouldn't like promo it that
- 3:31Speaker 1: promo it as though we are going to do a
- 3:34Speaker 1: special PST show. But I know you've been watching the
- 3:38Speaker 1: uh mister McMahon documentary that there.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Could be something PST does with this in the future, folks.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I say could, I'm gonn emphasize could because we want
- 3:46Speaker 3: to get one Len Hunsicker involved in this too, who
- 3:49Speaker 3: is a student of professional wrestling.
- 3:52Speaker 2: We got to get him involved.
- 3:54Speaker 3: He should have got a PhD in wrestling in WW wrestling, Yes,
- 3:58Speaker 3: large is wrestling in general. You see w W like
- 4:00Speaker 3: all of it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I just watched the first two episodes its just released tonight,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and I told Jeff, like, do we we got to
- 4:06Speaker 3: make a return to the non sport man and it's
- 4:08Speaker 3: sports entertainment. Yes, but and all of us served very
- 4:12Speaker 3: much like all three of us are huge wrestling fans
- 4:14Speaker 3: have been for a long time. Yep. I mean they
- 4:16Speaker 3: just showed footage of Saturday Night main event in Hershey,
- 4:19Speaker 3: Pa that I was at Nice King Kung Bunny, Big
- 4:22Speaker 3: John King Khong Bunny, Big John Studd in Hercules. Yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 3: we're going at it. Yeah. So I don't know, I think,
- 4:28Speaker 3: I mean with our listenership, I think I think there'd
- 4:32Speaker 3: be some interest there.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so. I look, I we all know
- 4:36Speaker 1: our wrestling, you know. I was at the very first
- 4:38Speaker 1: Survivor series where the Undertaker up at Hartford, Connecticut at
- 4:41Speaker 1: the Hartford Civic Center. My dad and I were up
- 4:44Speaker 1: there where the Undertaker was unveiled in that pay per
- 4:47Speaker 1: view the Summer slammery before that, that was at the
- 4:49Speaker 1: Philadelphia Spectrum. My dad and I were there for that.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I saw countless house shows at the at the Spectrum, so, uh,
- 4:56Speaker 1: we got it. We're gonna have to get into this,
- 4:57Speaker 1: mister McMahon documentary. We're gonna have to.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Do yeah for sure. Yeah, and I just right off
- 5:03Speaker 3: the bat, Tony Allis is interviewed through throughout all. He's
- 5:06Speaker 3: hearing a sleeveless stresshirt with time.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I love these guys.
- 5:11Speaker 3: He's not even wrestling anymore, he does.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I love that. That's so great.
- 5:18Speaker 1: All right, well, let's get into some Philly sports here,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and specifically with regard to the Philadelphia Phillies. I mean,
- 5:24Speaker 1: they are the standard now in the world of Philly sports.
- 5:29Speaker 2: My gosh.
- 5:29Speaker 1: They have clinched a first round by for the twenty
- 5:33Speaker 1: twenty four Major League Baseball Playoffs with their win against
- 5:38Speaker 1: the Chicago Cubs a Milwaukee Brewers loss. They have clinched
- 5:42Speaker 1: a bye again in the first round of this upcoming postseason.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And I gotta say, Eric, you know, as we get
- 5:49Speaker 1: into this discussion here, about our reflections on this season.
- 5:54Speaker 1: With just a handful of games left, They're gonna be
- 5:56Speaker 1: playing the Washington Nationals this coming week, and I have
- 6:01Speaker 1: to say that with this team heading into this season,
- 6:04Speaker 1: they weren't even the favorites to win the division. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: entire National League East has basically been living in the
- 6:10Speaker 1: shadow of the Atlanta Braves or the better part of
- 6:12Speaker 1: the last decade, at least in the regular season anyway.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But of course the Braves they had a slew of
- 6:18Speaker 1: injuries and just underperforming players throughout their roster this whole season.
- 6:23Speaker 1: This Phillies team, they just had a very firm grasp
- 6:25Speaker 1: on the top spot in the division for most of
- 6:27Speaker 1: the season, and again they solidified that by clinching the
- 6:31Speaker 1: division earlier this week against the Chicago Cubs. And Bryce
- 6:35Speaker 1: Harper's been getting hot at the right time. Kyle Schwarber
- 6:38Speaker 1: again getting hot at the right time. Heading into this postseason,
- 6:43Speaker 1: the expectations are so high for what we're going to
- 6:47Speaker 1: see in the future. But in terms of like reflecting
- 6:49Speaker 1: on this season, Eric, it's just it's the biggest surprise.
- 6:53Speaker 1: It really is, like we know this team is good,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but like I said, we've all been living in the
- 6:59Speaker 1: shadow of the Atlanta Braves. We didn't think this team
- 7:01Speaker 1: was going to win the division. You know, we even
- 7:03Speaker 1: said it before the season started. Wild card spot. It's
- 7:06Speaker 1: gonna be a wild card spot. That's what we expected.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And then the hope was that they as they have
- 7:11Speaker 1: been doing the past two seasons, you know, getting through
- 7:14Speaker 1: the getting through each round of the postseason. But just
- 7:17Speaker 1: the steadiness of this team. And yes, even though they
- 7:20Speaker 1: had the rough patch after the All Star break, I
- 7:23Speaker 1: think the steadiness of this team and really how even
- 7:27Speaker 1: though they went through that rough patch, they were still
- 7:30Speaker 1: that steady eddy group of guys. And that's what I'm
- 7:33Speaker 1: really taking away from this season as I reflect on it,
- 7:36Speaker 1: given what the expectations initially were and how much of
- 7:39Speaker 1: a surprise it has been.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So I don't know if you have any thoughts here.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I mean they're still still lying for
- 7:47Speaker 3: the top spot. They're actually tied with the Dodgers right now. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 3: that's right. Yeah, and yeah, and this is insane to me. Okay,
- 7:55Speaker 3: so Tani is the greatest baseball player of all time. Yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 3: the Dodgers just killing everybody. They still didn't clinched the division.
- 8:02Speaker 3: The Padres are two games beneath them and they're playing tonight. Yeah,
- 8:05Speaker 3: Roders could still want to Yes, that's insane. And but
- 8:10Speaker 3: enough about that. I'm hoping they get the top seed
- 8:12Speaker 3: and just have home field throughout the playoffs. But yeah,
- 8:15Speaker 3: just some quick quick reflection, not just on individual players,
- 8:20Speaker 3: but man, I remember sitting here in February twenty nineteen
- 8:23Speaker 3: when they signed Bryce Harper and just being like this,
- 8:27Speaker 3: something just changed. Yeah, yeah, like that really that really
- 8:30Speaker 3: flipped everything, which we all know, but like you just
- 8:32Speaker 3: think back on it. I didn't know would be this
- 8:34Speaker 3: much of a flip. I don't know he would attract
- 8:36Speaker 3: such talent to come to the team. JT. Real Muto
- 8:40Speaker 3: being one of the big and just for years. I
- 8:44Speaker 3: can't understate this, younger fans, how much how many times
- 8:49Speaker 3: is the Phillies sucked and were hateable on top of
- 8:52Speaker 3: that very hatb yeah, like very very players. You just
- 8:56Speaker 3: did not like you want it true for them, and
- 8:58Speaker 3: they sucked. It was it was. They had some really
- 9:00Speaker 3: teams the twenty fourteen twenty fifty like somewhere yeah, yeah,
- 9:05Speaker 3: when like they started to fall apart, and Don Brown
- 9:07Speaker 3: obviously wasn't the guy and you're like, what the hell
- 9:08Speaker 3: are we doing? My god, and you were watching Chase
- 9:11Speaker 3: Sutley get Grayer and Gray or Cole Hamils. You know,
- 9:14Speaker 3: it was left and the.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Farm system was basically depleted at that point too, and
- 9:17Speaker 1: no no real development either, no, and they drained.
- 9:21Speaker 3: It for all that town and it just there was
- 9:23Speaker 3: nothing left. And man to be where they are now,
- 9:28Speaker 3: am be likable and be like the I mean, I
- 9:31Speaker 3: know the Eagles is an Eagles town, but like the
- 9:34Speaker 3: Phillies are the most likable team. Yeah, and the best
- 9:36Speaker 3: team in the city. It's not even close. Zack Wheeler
- 9:39Speaker 3: just some some player notes quick, Zach Wheeler when they
- 9:41Speaker 3: signed him to that major deal coming off a bad
- 9:44Speaker 3: injury with the Mets, just thinking like, man, I don't
- 9:48Speaker 3: know about that. I don't know.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Like there's a.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Lot of money to throw to a guy at a
- 9:51Speaker 3: guy that had like two good seasons up to that point.
- 9:54Speaker 3: And what he's done this year is just piece you
- 9:56Speaker 3: win the Young Award that I can't believe how good
- 9:59Speaker 3: he is and he's like a top tier ace.
- 10:01Speaker 2: What he's done the past three years. Yeah, really, it's amazing.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I think he's one of the most underrated pitchers in
- 10:06Speaker 1: all of Major League Baseball as good as he is.
- 10:09Speaker 3: By far, and he's a top tier ace at age
- 10:11Speaker 3: thirty four, Like he's actually getting better. Yes, Nick Castianos,
- 10:16Speaker 3: I just man, he's one of those guys where people
- 10:19Speaker 3: bitch about him because he's streaky, but he's one of
- 10:22Speaker 3: my favorite Phillies all time. Like he's in my top fifteen.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I would say, yeah, just because he doesn't give a fuck.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I love that attitude about him. He's sexy, he's looking
- 10:32Speaker 3: fellow dude, like that's a good looking team. That's not
- 10:35Speaker 3: why it is. When they were throwing beer at each other,
- 10:38Speaker 3: no shirts on, You're like, that's that's a good looking squad.
- 10:41Speaker 2: There's like these guys work out exactly, but.
- 10:47Speaker 3: It's funny, like I think I think it's also it's
- 10:49Speaker 3: I think it's long been thought of by non baseball
- 10:52Speaker 3: fans that baseball players are kind of slobby. Yeah, be
- 10:55Speaker 3: in great shape. And then you see the Phillies locker
- 10:57Speaker 3: room they're all jacked with twelve packs, like.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah, one of that.
- 11:02Speaker 3: And then Kyle Schwarber like he's become almost like a
- 11:05Speaker 3: folk here at this point. I mean last year when
- 11:08Speaker 3: he became the leadoff hitter. I just thought that was insane.
- 11:11Speaker 3: The guy strikes out, he hits a home run, Like
- 11:13Speaker 3: what what are we doing? And like you saw, you
- 11:16Speaker 3: see what can work with a guy like that this
- 11:18Speaker 3: year where he leads off, he's a lot of how
- 11:20Speaker 3: many games with a home run and just sets the
- 11:23Speaker 3: tone for like fifteen games that he's done or however
- 11:26Speaker 3: many he should be Jason Kelcey like at this point,
- 11:30Speaker 3: like in terms of folk heroism, that's ap Yep, he
- 11:34Speaker 3: reminds me of him. He's also like super duper involved
- 11:36Speaker 3: in the in the city and he like he has
- 11:39Speaker 3: a foundation for kid like he's he's just that kind
- 11:42Speaker 3: of guy. I think if they win a World Series
- 11:44Speaker 3: ring he might get elevated to that status. Not not
- 11:47Speaker 3: quite that that big as Basel was not the biggest
- 11:49Speaker 3: football but and just Harper, I mean, the guy just
- 11:52Speaker 3: it's all incredible. I mean, yeah, he's incredible. He decided
- 11:56Speaker 3: to play first base in his early thirties because they
- 11:59Speaker 3: needed him to.
- 12:00Speaker 1: That's part of this season two. Look, it's not just
- 12:02Speaker 1: a guy standing on first base catching a ball. There
- 12:05Speaker 1: has to be development with that and how he did
- 12:07Speaker 1: that in a year a year, like just learning on
- 12:12Speaker 1: the job, but really doing well, really doing well. You
- 12:17Speaker 1: want to talk about one of the most natural baseball players,
- 12:20Speaker 1: I mean, aside from Otani of course, in the world.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I mean, it's Bryce Harper. The fact that he was
- 12:24Speaker 1: able to go from right field to first base like
- 12:26Speaker 1: it was nothing. I mean, there were a couple errors
- 12:28Speaker 1: here and there we saw him, but man, it was seamless.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And that that's an incredible athlete there.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he's he's probably one of the most natural. Like
- 12:37Speaker 3: you said, I think all time, Like the guy was
- 12:39Speaker 3: just able to play baseball. He was on SI cover
- 12:42Speaker 3: what sixteen fifteen sixteen, Yeah, he was. He was destined
- 12:46Speaker 3: to be a superstar. And I honestly think he's underrated.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Like how crazy that is to say, Like he's just
- 12:52Speaker 3: as good as Mike Trout.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he's just good.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I Mean Mike Trout's almost done with his career, but
- 12:56Speaker 3: like I think he's I think he's at that level
- 12:59Speaker 3: as well, like being a teammate and helping his team win,
- 13:02Speaker 3: where Trout never really kind of got there. But the
- 13:05Speaker 3: team is just awesome and it's so much fun at
- 13:06Speaker 3: your for them, and this is this is the this
- 13:09Speaker 3: is the playoffs where it's gonna be every single pitch.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Well that's why that's where I was gonna go with
- 13:16Speaker 1: this right here. I mean, it's important to remember that,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you know, the Phillies are going to be coming off
- 13:21Speaker 1: some downtime, They're gonna have some momentum, and that momentum
- 13:25Speaker 1: is going to need to continue to make its way
- 13:30Speaker 1: into the where where these guys are in terms of
- 13:32Speaker 1: their headspace. And I don't think it should be too
- 13:35Speaker 1: difficult given the fact that Citizens Bank Park is going
- 13:39Speaker 1: to be crazy. They are folks are going to be
- 13:43Speaker 1: out of their mind. I mean, they're gonna be rocking
- 13:45Speaker 1: once that first pitch of the NLDS happens. Regardless of
- 13:49Speaker 1: who the opponent is, that that stadium, that Baseball stadium
- 13:54Speaker 1: is going to be absolutely wild.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Dude, It's gonna be wild, man.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And and that is the anticipation of that is what
- 14:02Speaker 1: I cannot wait to see.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and and the teams that are it's gonna be
- 14:07Speaker 3: Helen Earth or whatever. Let's just say it. I've been
- 14:12Speaker 3: the two playoff Philly Playoff games in the past, and
- 14:16Speaker 3: holy hell, I mean it's it's ugly I mean, it's awesome.
- 14:19Speaker 3: There's a lot here, but it can get really ugly,
- 14:21Speaker 3: specially you know if you're a fan of another team
- 14:23Speaker 3: and just looking at the possibilities who they might play.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I mean, they could beat any of these teams. And
- 14:30Speaker 3: I mean imagine the Mets get in and a Mets
- 14:33Speaker 3: fan tries to come to good luck mother, be ugly dude,
- 14:40Speaker 3: or hell the Braves. Still I still have a shot
- 14:42Speaker 3: to get in like that. That'll be hideous like that.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I can't wait. But like I said, because of the
- 14:48Speaker 3: let on pins and needles, even though I have like
- 14:51Speaker 3: way more, the pitching top to bottom starting and then
- 14:54Speaker 3: the bullpen is just impeccable. Every single pitch though, is
- 14:58Speaker 3: going to be.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Oh god, oh my god, oh my god. Well it's
- 15:05Speaker 2: gonna be fun to watch for sure.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So let's uh, let's get now get into some Sixers
- 15:10Speaker 1: talk here, because yes, even though the regular season has
- 15:13Speaker 1: not started, campus right around the corner for this team,
- 15:18Speaker 1: the regular season is gonna be here before we know it.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But this past week, Joel Embiid signed a contract extension
- 15:26Speaker 1: with this Philadelphia seventy six ers team, and I gotta
- 15:30Speaker 1: say it's just I was so happy, like I was
- 15:33Speaker 1: just so happy because it means he may be spending
- 15:36Speaker 1: his entire career as a sixer. Who knows, But in
- 15:41Speaker 1: the history of the NBA eric only thirty six different
- 15:44Speaker 1: players have won the MVP Award, and of those thirty six,
- 15:48Speaker 1: only five have been a sixer. We've got Wilt, Doctor J,
- 15:52Speaker 1: Moses Ai, and Embiid. But like, unlike Wilt, Moses and Ai,
- 15:59Speaker 1: Embiid took a huge step to possibly finishing his career
- 16:03Speaker 1: with the Sixers with this three year, one hundred and
- 16:06Speaker 1: ninety three million dollar MAX extension. And of course Doctor
- 16:10Speaker 1: J he ended his career with the last dance in Philadelphia.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Embiid has a chance to do something even Dock didn't do,
- 16:18Speaker 1: which is spend his entire career as a sixer. And
- 16:21Speaker 1: I think that's why I'm so happy about this extension.
- 16:25Speaker 1: And we just don't see it as much anymore, especially
- 16:27Speaker 1: in pro sports. We don't see players just staying with
- 16:30Speaker 1: one team. That's not how the market works anymore. Yes, yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, of course, but christ even Michael
- 16:38Speaker 1: Jordan played for the Wizards for what two seasons season
- 16:41Speaker 1: or two or something like that. But with this extension done,
- 16:45Speaker 1: the Sixers are now locked into the trio of Embid, Tyrese, Maxie,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and Paul George, likely through the twenty twenty seven twenty
- 16:54Speaker 1: twenty eight season, which is pretty good position for this
- 16:58Speaker 1: organization and team. So I'm a static about this and
- 17:02Speaker 1: what it means, not just for EMBIID, but what it
- 17:04Speaker 1: means for the fan base too.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Listen, Doctor j couldn't be on the six years old
- 17:08Speaker 3: Career because he was in the ABA.
- 17:10Speaker 2: So oh that's true. Yes, yes, I.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Will not allow be smirched of doc on this show.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I know you have a poster right next to you.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Right here, yes, right, yeah, No. I I was super
- 17:24Speaker 3: happy for him, Like, I think a couple of days
- 17:26Speaker 3: after the news, he was posting pictures of his son's
- 17:29Speaker 3: birthday party.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and I.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Was like, and he And before that he posted something
- 17:35Speaker 3: like I want to spend my career here. I'm a
- 17:37Speaker 3: Philadelphia guy. He was like, you know what, I you know,
- 17:40Speaker 3: for all the ship he catches, he's not in escape.
- 17:42Speaker 3: That's he deserves that. Let's face it. I mean, he dude,
- 17:46Speaker 3: you're you're you're thirty. Now you're like you need to
- 17:48Speaker 3: like actually get in shape if you want to. But
- 17:52Speaker 3: like as far as like keeping that core intact, this
- 17:58Speaker 3: was the only move because you're all in, like this
- 18:01Speaker 3: is it. There's no the window is right here and
- 18:03Speaker 3: that's it, and you had to lock it down. You
- 18:06Speaker 3: already locked Paul George down until like it's like freaking
- 18:08Speaker 3: forty years old or something. Max, he's locked down. I
- 18:14Speaker 3: do think he'll end his career here. I don't see
- 18:17Speaker 3: a Patrick Ewing in a Orlando Magic uniform, you know,
- 18:22Speaker 3: end of his career kind of deal.
- 18:24Speaker 2: A Chemo lodge one.
- 18:25Speaker 1: We're in a Raptor's jersey or or.
- 18:29Speaker 3: A fat Sean Kemp Yes, in a Caves jerseys. Y. Yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 3: that's strike ruined some careers. But yeah, he's going to
- 18:39Speaker 3: finish his career here. And I mean, but I'll tell
- 18:42Speaker 3: you what fudgeriple ice cream man, that's final gear. He's
- 18:47Speaker 3: thirty five years old, he's a player out for seventy
- 18:49Speaker 3: million dollars. Yes, like he might be ready to retire
- 18:54Speaker 3: physically at that point, right, but he's going to take that.
- 18:56Speaker 3: He's going to pick up that option. Man, There's just
- 18:58Speaker 3: no way around. But it's again, it was your only
- 19:01Speaker 3: play as a franchise you had Day the guy, and
- 19:04Speaker 3: you have to keep this core intact because you're out
- 19:06Speaker 3: of moves. This is it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yep, Absolutely not too much else to say about that.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So why don't we move into our next bit of
- 19:13Speaker 1: Sixers talk here, which which deals with the the the
- 19:18Speaker 1: arena that is likely and possibly seems like it now
- 19:21Speaker 1: is going to be built in Chinatown right there in
- 19:25Speaker 1: center city Philadelphia. The Mayor of Philadelphia this past week,
- 19:30Speaker 1: along with the Sixers, announced that they've got a deal.
- 19:34Speaker 1: They've got a deal to put that arena that we
- 19:37Speaker 1: have talked about on this podcast. We said we were
- 19:39Speaker 1: gonna keep tabs on it and see where it goes
- 19:42Speaker 1: from here offer our thoughts and opinions on it. The
- 19:46Speaker 1: members of the Chinatown community claim and say that they
- 19:50Speaker 1: felt a little broadsided and or I should say blindsided
- 19:54Speaker 1: by this announcement.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I don't necessarily think, as somebody who.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Kind of you know, works in a realm of public
- 20:01Speaker 1: service eraic and stuff like, if you have people who
- 20:03Speaker 1: are opposed to you, you aren't one hundred percent necessarily
- 20:07Speaker 1: going to let them know what your next move is
- 20:08Speaker 1: going to be. So as underhanded as they think it is,
- 20:14Speaker 1: it's this really is an organization like the Sixers doing
- 20:17Speaker 1: business with the city in the way that they have.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Just this happens in other cities. It unfortunate or not,
- 20:26Speaker 1: this is what happens, and it stinks that. What does
- 20:29Speaker 1: think is the fact that there likely will be some
- 20:32Speaker 1: taxpayer money that is directed towards an arena. As somebody
- 20:35Speaker 1: who's a public official, I'm not a big fan of that.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I'm really not a big fan of it, even though
- 20:40Speaker 1: it is a boon to economic development in other areas.
- 20:44Speaker 1: It is, folks, it's it's been proven time and time
- 20:47Speaker 1: again in other cities. However, there are times based on
- 20:52Speaker 1: design of an arena, based on where it is, what
- 20:56Speaker 1: that level of commitment with taxpayer dollars to go towards
- 21:00Speaker 1: the financing and building of the arena, because it's not
- 21:02Speaker 1: going to be completely done with taxpayer money, but how
- 21:05Speaker 1: much of it, it's all a matter of degrees. Eric
- 21:08Speaker 1: and I we don't necessarily know what the actual plan
- 21:12Speaker 1: is going to be. We don't know what the financial
- 21:14Speaker 1: dollars are at this point. But I just I really
- 21:17Speaker 1: hope the taxpayers don't get screwed too too badly here.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But I saw this coming. We talked I remember we
- 21:23Speaker 1: talked about this a couple of months ago. I saw
- 21:25Speaker 1: this coming. There's there's no way that the citizens group
- 21:30Speaker 1: in Chinatown was likely going to win this one. Not
- 21:33Speaker 1: when it's the Philadelphia seventy six ers, Not when a
- 21:36Speaker 1: conglomerate like that wants to do what they want to do.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So and I'm not trying to be mister you know,
- 21:43Speaker 1: mister well, it was just politics being politics. It's I mean,
- 21:48Speaker 1: it's unfortunate in some ways, but I saw this coming.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm very worked there for years, Like right
- 21:57Speaker 3: at the edge of it, Ninth and Race, and it's
- 21:59Speaker 3: a community and it's tight physically, like there's not a
- 22:05Speaker 3: lot of space there. And what they're really concerned with
- 22:08Speaker 3: is delivery trucks getting in and out, like trash, people
- 22:12Speaker 3: trying to get trying to get through, and having to
- 22:14Speaker 3: deal with with traffic. It's it's two lanes, but it's
- 22:18Speaker 3: it's kind of one lane and every every street in Chinatown. Yeah,
- 22:22Speaker 3: it's going to be a mess for them. And unfortunately,
- 22:25Speaker 3: you know, you know four or three where they were
- 22:28Speaker 3: trying to build the new Phillies Ballpark down there, there
- 22:31Speaker 3: was a Chinatown group doing the same I think it
- 22:33Speaker 3: was the same group, and they didn't win. It just
- 22:37Speaker 3: didn't get done. Like they didn't beat anybody, and they
- 22:40Speaker 3: weren't going to win this one. You could tell the
- 22:43Speaker 3: taxpayers are going to get screwed. That's just what's going
- 22:46Speaker 3: to happen.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And that's what happens with developers. Man Like developers really
- 22:51Speaker 1: strong arm folks. They probably they likely strong armed the
- 22:54Speaker 1: city into this agreement when the team didn't rule out
- 22:57Speaker 1: the possibility of moving out of Pennsylvania, which they weren't
- 23:00Speaker 1: going to do, but still the developers strong armed them.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Well, and then that threat you could always hold that
- 23:05Speaker 3: thread over the city. We'll playing canden, you know. But yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 3: they're going to get screwed. Some businesses will will flourish,
- 23:15Speaker 3: but for the most part, the rich people will get
- 23:16Speaker 3: richer and uh y town people with restaurants and stuff
- 23:20Speaker 3: are going to get screwed. Hopefully, hopefully people like leave
- 23:23Speaker 3: the arena and go to Chinatown for dinner and that
- 23:25Speaker 3: kind of stuff. I hope that happens, but I'm sure
- 23:27Speaker 3: they're going to put all kinds of crappy Chipotle, you know. Yeah,
- 23:36Speaker 3: just that that that's the part that sucks. I'm I'm
- 23:38Speaker 3: I'm super excited for it, because that's where your arena
- 23:43Speaker 3: should be, is in the city somewhere when teams, when
- 23:46Speaker 3: teams do it the right way, that's usually how it works,
- 23:49Speaker 3: and that that's it's going to be state of the art.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Thank goodness. I'm sure because the current one we've talked
- 23:54Speaker 3: about that it's just it's just a whole Yeah, they
- 23:57Speaker 3: play basketball and it it's your pretty typical basketball. Yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 3: but I it's I'm waiting. It's gonna be funny hearing
- 24:06Speaker 3: the people who live outside of the city, who are
- 24:09Speaker 3: gonna have to go down there. Yeah, doctor bid take
- 24:12Speaker 3: a train? Oh what exactly? Even though the train goes
- 24:16Speaker 3: right to tenth three to be right right right, like
- 24:18Speaker 3: tenth Market, it'd be right down the block.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I can't take mass transit, I know.
- 24:22Speaker 3: And then and then just you know, imagining them going
- 24:26Speaker 3: down the broad Street exits six or whatever the and
- 24:28Speaker 3: then just like, oh my god, yes I don't have
- 24:31Speaker 3: to do next. Yeah, like they're gonna come. Those people
- 24:34Speaker 3: will bitch and bone. But man, why wasn't that there
- 24:37Speaker 3: when I live downtown? Oh my god, I want to
- 24:39Speaker 3: every six Ers game.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Yah, you would have we would have Oh my god,
- 24:41Speaker 1: we would have gone to so many when I would
- 24:43Speaker 1: come down to visit.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Oh my god. Yes, yeah, Well, we're.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Certainly gonna we're gonna continue to keep tabs on this
- 24:49Speaker 1: because this this is gonna happen, folks. It is gonna happen,
- 24:51Speaker 1: So we're gonna keep tabs on it here. If you're
- 24:53Speaker 1: new to listening to us, we'd appreciate if you subscribe

- 25:47Speaker 1: Eric at Brickpollot. We're gonna take a quick break and
- 25:50Speaker 1: we'll be back in just a bit. All right, we
- 25:53Speaker 1: are back, and we're gonna be just finishing our finishing off.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I should say our discussion with regard to the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 26:01Speaker 1: the NFC East as well, and how the dynamics of
- 26:06Speaker 1: this division and just this Eagles team, how things are
- 26:09Speaker 1: happening early in this season with regard to these games.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Let's start off with some NFC East talk here, Eric,
- 26:16Speaker 1: my gosh, the Dallas Cowboys after three weeks.
- 26:19Speaker 2: They might actually be cooked. They might be done. They
- 26:22Speaker 2: have lost two straight home games in their house. The
- 26:27Speaker 2: New York Giants, they don't look all that great, even
- 26:30Speaker 2: though they won a game this past week. But with
- 26:33Speaker 2: regard to the Commanders, they're starting to look for real.
- 26:37Speaker 2: With Jayden Daniels, I mentioned that I mentioned that I
- 26:41Speaker 2: thought they might be a wildcard team when we were
- 26:44Speaker 2: doing our predictions for this upcoming season. Of course, We'll
- 26:47Speaker 2: get to the Eagles in just a bit, because yes,
- 26:49Speaker 2: even though they are two and one, it's been a
- 26:51Speaker 2: very shaky two and one. But man, dude, the.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys they got a tough schedule coming up too.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I mean, yes, they do play the Giants. Should be
- 26:59Speaker 1: a it should, but then they've got the Steelers who
- 27:02Speaker 1: are three and oh, the Lions, the forty nine ers.
- 27:05Speaker 1: This Cowboys team might actually be done. They really they
- 27:09Speaker 1: might be done. And I love it.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I'm here for it, I really am.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Yeah, even when the Eagles were bad, if if the
- 27:18Speaker 3: Cowboys sucked, it was kind of okay, you know, so
- 27:23Speaker 3: see to see them kind of. I mean they got
- 27:25Speaker 3: smoked in Week two and then lost to the Ravens
- 27:29Speaker 3: last week and just got ran over, like yeah, we
- 27:33Speaker 3: we we love Michael Parsons, Harrisburg product, Penn State product,
- 27:39Speaker 3: but if he's not rushing the passer, he doesn't, he
- 27:41Speaker 3: doesn't really, I mean, Derek Henry ran him over the
- 27:44Speaker 3: whole over, and that I think that team is just
- 27:49Speaker 3: when you pay three guys all of the money, that's
- 27:53Speaker 3: what you get, like, and you have a mediocre coach
- 27:56Speaker 3: who's been in the hot seat for two years. It's
- 27:58Speaker 3: a mess. And and know I'm I can't believe people
- 28:01Speaker 3: are not asking for Jerry Jones to sell the damn team.
- 28:03Speaker 3: He never will. He'll die clutching it.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll keep it. His family too, Yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's what I mean, do you see who
- 28:12Speaker 3: works for him? It's just it's just the Jones family.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Jones family, yes, higher corporate structure. It is just his
- 28:17Speaker 3: family that always goes really well. By the way, the
- 28:21Speaker 3: future president possibly, but yeah, it's they're a mess. And
- 28:26Speaker 3: they gave Dak. I can't believe that much money they
- 28:29Speaker 3: gave Dak, Like I I love it because he's not
- 28:33Speaker 3: He's not He's not that good. He's not that worth
- 28:36Speaker 3: that much money. I don't think our quarterback's worth that
- 28:38Speaker 3: much money. There aren't a lot of quarterbacks right now
- 28:40Speaker 3: are worth that much money.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Trevor Trevert Lawrence was one of the highest paid in
- 28:43Speaker 1: the league, and he has been horrendous this year.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah. That that that Damar Hamlin interception he threw. Oh,
- 28:50Speaker 3: it's like one of the it's one of the worst
- 28:51Speaker 3: ones I've ever seen. Whatever, but I love it. They suck,
- 28:56Speaker 3: they have no they're running backs. Ezekil Elliott. I know,
- 29:00Speaker 3: year is it.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I know they brought a back.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they're done too, and I mean the whole.
- 29:07Speaker 3: If they lose next week, it's going to be the whole.
- 29:10Speaker 3: The good thing is if they lose next week and
- 29:12Speaker 3: the whole thing becomes Cowboys fury, people won't be paying
- 29:17Speaker 3: attention as much to how shitty the coaching has been
- 29:19Speaker 3: for the Eagles. Yes, exactly, little.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Bit, Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I love how you mentioned Derrick Henry because something with
- 29:28Speaker 1: this Dallas Cowboys team that is really prevalent is the
- 29:32Speaker 1: lack of fire on defense. And they were supposed to
- 29:34Speaker 1: be a pretty good defensive team coming into this season.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Derrick Henry alone forced twelve misstackles in this past week's
- 29:43Speaker 1: game against the Ravens. The Ravens together forced seventeen miss tackles.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I mean that that is an ingredient for failure, and
- 29:51Speaker 1: it's there's no fire there. When you're missing that many tackles,
- 29:54Speaker 1: there's no fire on defense. And if we continue to
- 29:58Speaker 1: see that, I'm going to be absolutely loving it. We're
- 30:00Speaker 1: watching this dumb team a week after week well, and they.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Brought him Mike Zimmers with a defensive old school guru yeah,
- 30:08Speaker 3: you know the you know, the personnel gave too much
- 30:10Speaker 3: money to too many play the wrong guys or too
- 30:13Speaker 3: few guys, and that's that's what happens to your roster.
- 30:15Speaker 2: They're not gonna be able to sign Michael Parson probably either.
- 30:17Speaker 2: They're probably gonna end up losing.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Them, I know, and that's awesome.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yes, fuck them exactly.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Look, we knew the Giants were gonna be dog crap,
- 30:26Speaker 1: you know, especially when you saw Oh my god, when
- 30:29Speaker 1: when you saw hard knocks the off season one, Holy cow,
- 30:32Speaker 1: what a dumpster fire that freaking organization is. But like
- 30:35Speaker 1: I said, the Washington Commanders, man, holy cow. Jaden Daniels,
- 30:40Speaker 1: the Jade and Daniels show that we saw against the
- 30:43Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals, what a fucking rookie this guy is, Man,
- 30:49Speaker 1: holy shit, I knew he was. I said, he is
- 30:53Speaker 1: going to be that special quarterback in this particular quarterback class.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I mean bo Nick's for God said then again, exit
- 31:00Speaker 1: that lit up the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Tampa Bay somehow.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Go back and listen to the Opposition Territory podcast. We
- 31:08Speaker 1: did the preview and talked about that specifically. But man,
- 31:12Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels dude, real thing I reminded me of some
- 31:15Speaker 1: RG three stuff here really really reminded me of RG three.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Yeah. The Bears might have taken the wrong guy, yeah,
- 31:24Speaker 3: but they also can't block for him, so it's a disaster. Yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 3: And if the Cums had any kind of defense that
- 31:29Speaker 3: might be a little scary, but they, you know, the
- 31:32Speaker 3: Bengals just ran it up, up and down the field.
- 31:34Speaker 3: And then but I have some Cum fans of my life. Yeah,
- 31:38Speaker 3: and I I gotta say I love this for them
- 31:42Speaker 3: actually that they have a quarterback.
- 31:44Speaker 2: And because.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Eagles like Eagles versus the nfcas for the past few
- 31:50Speaker 3: years not not super fun to watch. The Cowboys games
- 31:54Speaker 3: are always good, but the Giants have had Daniel Jones
- 31:57Speaker 3: for how many years now, He's horrible and he's horrible
- 32:00Speaker 3: to watch. And the the Comes have had Tyler Heinekey
- 32:04Speaker 3: and like just name it, like.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Just Sam's owl.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Yeah, the guys I don't want to watch. But my god,
- 32:11Speaker 3: they have a real quarterback now, and that's that's actually
- 32:13Speaker 3: kind of fun for for us, like as even as
- 32:17Speaker 3: fans of the Eagles, it's like, okay, this is cool,
- 32:19Speaker 3: Like we actually have to like play somebody now. Yes,
- 32:22Speaker 3: and I yeah, that's very happy for them in that regard.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Go back to the Giants quick, Malik Neighbors. They might
- 32:30Speaker 3: have taken the best wide receiver in the draft. That dude,
- 32:33Speaker 3: it's awesome. He has I think he has what four
- 32:36Speaker 3: hundred some yards already with like three touchdowns.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like top five in the NFL.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Quarterback Like, Yes, that's incredible, that's impeccable. Absolutely, and go
- 32:47Speaker 3: and the the hard knocks thing we talked about it.
- 32:51Speaker 3: The guy the GM should be fired like today after
- 32:53Speaker 3: watching that whole thing, and they should never do that again.
- 32:55Speaker 3: I would never let cameras in my office like that.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Barkley is the number one running back in the entire
- 33:02Speaker 3: NFL at this point, Why not Barkley draft Neighbors and
- 33:07Speaker 3: have an awesome offer, which is just get an offensive line?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Why can't you draft offensive lineman?
- 33:14Speaker 3: But yet they trade for a skinny defensive end and
- 33:17Speaker 3: give a hundred million dollars, Yes, and give the Panthers
- 33:20Speaker 3: a draft pick. Yes, what a shit show of an
- 33:23Speaker 3: offseason for this?
- 33:23Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely all right, Well, getting into some Eagles talk here. Look,
- 33:28Speaker 1: we have to start this conversation now. We do based
- 33:31Speaker 1: on what we have seen from this Eagles team, the
- 33:33Speaker 1: streaky Eagles team, and asked the question about what Howie
- 33:36Speaker 1: Roseman is going to be looking to do before the
- 33:38Speaker 1: trade deadline, which is Tuesday, November fifth. We know something
- 33:41Speaker 1: needs to happen from a pass rush standpoint. We know
- 33:44Speaker 1: that Bryce Huff is not getting it done. Folks, we
- 33:49Speaker 1: know this. It has been really rough to watch. The
- 33:53Speaker 1: pass rush was so much better. Of course, this past
- 33:56Speaker 1: week in the U in the game against the Saints,
- 34:00Speaker 1: Jalen Carter was absolutely fantastic. Even Jordan Davis really really
- 34:05Speaker 1: making his mark on a Saints team that offensively was
- 34:09Speaker 1: performing right near the top in terms of the first
- 34:12Speaker 1: two weeks of the season. Yes, it's a long season.
- 34:15Speaker 1: We'll see what happens there. But Eric, what's Howie rose
- 34:18Speaker 1: gonna be gonna be looking at before the trade deadline? Obviously,
- 34:21Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a pass rusher. I don't
- 34:23Speaker 1: know if you're thinking anything else, but he's gonna be
- 34:26Speaker 1: making a trade to bring in somebody with the pass rush,
- 34:29Speaker 1: because Beg is getting it done out there. He's doing
- 34:32Speaker 1: a damn good job so far, just about the only one.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Noan Smith, former first round pick not doing a whole
- 34:38Speaker 1: lot and again, uh, Bryce Huff not getting anything done.
- 34:43Speaker 2: So pass rusher it is for me.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Yeah, when your best defensive ends like thirty five, yes,
- 34:50Speaker 3: a tail end of his career.
- 34:51Speaker 2: He was fifty five. Yeah, he's got.
- 34:53Speaker 3: The gray thing going on, like like we do in
- 34:56Speaker 3: the Beard. Yes, so he does a little older. It
- 34:59Speaker 3: has to be defensive end help. The middle. The middle
- 35:03Speaker 3: of the line shredded the Saints and that they won
- 35:06Speaker 3: that game almost single handily because you put it, you
- 35:08Speaker 3: put pressure on their ship quarterback. He just turns into
- 35:11Speaker 3: garbage and they did that pretty well. It's gonna be
- 35:13Speaker 3: defensive end help. And I think he's probably gonna try
- 35:16Speaker 3: and get another offensive lineman for some depth. Yea, all
- 35:20Speaker 3: of a sudden, quietly were we're injured there? Ye pretty
- 35:23Speaker 3: pretty pretty substantially. So maybe you get like a some
- 35:28Speaker 3: kind of guard, backup tackle deal. But all but the
- 35:30Speaker 3: defensive end is that you have to get. I don't
- 35:33Speaker 3: know if you can get an impact guy mid season,
- 35:35Speaker 3: but those moves have kind of been made. Like they
- 35:38Speaker 3: traded what was the name, Chase something, Uh, the defensive end.
- 35:43Speaker 3: They who the commanders that comes. Yeah, yeah, they traded
- 35:49Speaker 3: hit yeah, Chase Young. Chase Young, Like some big deal
- 35:53Speaker 3: moves with defensive linemen have gone down recently, so I'm
- 35:57Speaker 3: I'm hoping like maybe there's a blockbuster out there and
- 36:00Speaker 3: how he can flace a team for like a fourth
- 36:01Speaker 3: round pick.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:03Speaker 1: A lot of these top tier defensive linemen, though, they
- 36:06Speaker 1: signed contract extensions in the offseason, so that's kind of
- 36:09Speaker 1: a problem. They've already done that contract extension with the teams. Again,
- 36:13Speaker 1: top defensive ends have done that, So I don't know.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I think I think there may be a guy a fourth,
- 36:19Speaker 1: fifth round pick, you know, some type of mid tier
- 36:21Speaker 1: guy that how he might try to look at. So
- 36:25Speaker 1: that's where I think that's probably where I think it's
- 36:27Speaker 1: gonna go. I'd love to hear what folks think out there, though,
- 36:29Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com about this issue,
- 36:32Speaker 1: because nobody's really talking about the trade deadline yet and
- 36:35Speaker 1: I'd like for us to get a jumpstart on it
- 36:37Speaker 1: here at the PST podcast show. Do you have anything
- 36:39Speaker 1: else for that, Eric before we move on to the
- 36:41Speaker 1: final one?
- 36:43Speaker 3: No, you talk about Bryce Huff, but I'll bring him
- 36:45Speaker 3: up my next al Right.
- 36:46Speaker 1: It sounds good, sounds good, So all right, before we
- 36:49Speaker 1: let Eric go here, and before we get to what
- 36:50Speaker 1: we're thrown down on table this week in our interview,
- 36:54Speaker 1: we're gonna do what's one under the radar thing we
- 36:57Speaker 1: like from the Eagles this season, and what's one under
- 36:59Speaker 1: the radar thing that we hate from the Eagles this season.
- 37:04Speaker 1: So let's start with the one under radar thing we
- 37:06Speaker 1: like from the Birds this season? Here, Eric, what's that
- 37:09Speaker 1: for you?
- 37:12Speaker 3: We've talked in the show ad nauseam about how they
- 37:14Speaker 3: just never have linebackers.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and I.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Think one under the radar thing is that they actually
- 37:20Speaker 3: have good linebackers this year and the play's being really good.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Zach Bond has been a breakout, kind of not star,
- 37:26Speaker 3: but he's playing super duper well. Then Kobe Dean's actually
- 37:29Speaker 3: having a decent year. And I need to talk about
- 37:30Speaker 3: Nolan Smith. Not great off the end, but as a
- 37:33Speaker 3: linebacker him in that trio, but it played really really
- 37:37Speaker 3: well and it's kind of a it's gotta be the
- 37:39Speaker 3: first time since like the Super Bowl year, right like
- 37:41Speaker 3: twenty seventeen where they have substantial linebacking play.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Nigel Bradham was a pretty damn good linebacker that year.
- 37:47Speaker 1: He really was I like what you're saying. Every we
- 37:50Speaker 1: all came into this season and being like, linebacker weakest
- 37:53Speaker 1: position on the defense.
- 37:55Speaker 2: It really isn't. It really isn't.
- 37:57Speaker 1: We've been going through our grades after on our Eagles
- 37:59Speaker 1: postgame shows. Linebackers have been getting like b's and a's
- 38:02Speaker 1: and the defensive line has been getting like season d's basically.
- 38:05Speaker 1: So I like your pick right there for me, Eric,
- 38:09Speaker 1: I'm actually I'm actually gonna go with Jalen Hurts.
- 38:12Speaker 2: What I like this year.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts his completion rate in previo this year against
- 38:18Speaker 1: the Blitz. His completion rate this year against the Blitz.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Go back to twenty twenty one, it was fifty four
- 38:26Speaker 1: point four percent. Twenty twenty two, it increased to fifty
- 38:30Speaker 1: eight point one percent. You're still like, Eh, it's not
- 38:33Speaker 1: all that great of a completion percentage against the Blitz.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Last year it was sixty point five percent. This year, Yes,
- 38:41Speaker 1: after three games, it's seventy one point four percent after
- 38:46Speaker 1: after three games. I want to I want to thank
- 38:48Speaker 1: Jeff Kerr from CBS Sports, our good buddy for putting
- 38:50Speaker 1: those stats out that I just used right there. That
- 38:53Speaker 1: is promising given how much he has been blitzed, one
- 38:58Speaker 1: of the highest blitz quarterbacks in the league because it's
- 39:00Speaker 1: a weak spot for him in his game. But his
- 39:03Speaker 1: completion percentage is getting to a point where he's getting
- 39:05Speaker 1: the ball out of his hands a little bit quicker. Yes,
- 39:07Speaker 1: in general, he keeps the ball in his hands way
- 39:10Speaker 1: too long at times. We're still seeing that, but the
- 39:14Speaker 1: completion percentage on the blitz has gotten a lot better.
- 39:17Speaker 1: And that's what I like to see, because you're gonna
- 39:19Speaker 1: be able to sustain drives when you have that higher percentage.
- 39:23Speaker 1: If it's over seventy percent, seventy one point four percent,
- 39:26Speaker 1: it's something I really like.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I will say, you had you had to do some
- 39:31Speaker 3: gymnastics there. I did percentage against the blitz on Thursday
- 39:37Speaker 3: night games on the That's absolutely right. He's made some
- 39:43Speaker 3: poor decisions this year, but I'm just reading those stats
- 39:47Speaker 3: off that. I'll give it to him because you're all right,
- 39:50Speaker 3: that's been a blind spot in his game for twice.
- 39:53Speaker 3: That's usually when he makes his biggest mistakes. Yes, really,
- 39:56Speaker 3: horse throws, Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right. What's one under the radar thing that
- 39:59Speaker 1: we from this Eagles season here that we hate?
- 40:04Speaker 3: Okay, we just talked about Bryce Huff and how he's
- 40:07Speaker 3: just not doing much. I I think it's under the
- 40:10Speaker 3: radar a bit. Like we got rid of Hassan Reddick
- 40:13Speaker 3: for him, and and I would do the trade every
- 40:16Speaker 3: day like that was a smart trade because it was like,
- 40:19Speaker 3: why should we pay Hassan Reddick if we can get
- 40:21Speaker 3: Bryce Huff and he's younger and he's probably better, and
- 40:26Speaker 3: we'll just give Bryce Huff the money, right, smart trade?
- 40:29Speaker 3: How he knocked out of the park on that one.
- 40:31Speaker 3: But he sucks so far. Let's just say it, like
- 40:35Speaker 3: I have not heard enough? What the fuck is wrong
- 40:37Speaker 3: with Bryce Huff? Yeah, Like we just talked about defensive
- 40:41Speaker 3: ends and we're really light there and he was supposed
- 40:43Speaker 3: to be the guy. Like that's what we're complaining about. Like, dude,
- 40:46Speaker 3: you came in and I do remember, like I didn't
- 40:50Speaker 3: watch a lot of Jets games, and I think I
- 40:52Speaker 3: text you guys like is Bryce Huff good? And you know,
- 40:55Speaker 3: Dave was like he's great, man, He's like come off
- 40:57Speaker 3: the edge sacked. He's a big sack guy.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 3: He has one tackle this year. Yeah, and he's played
- 41:02Speaker 3: in all three games. He's not hurt, Like you look
- 41:04Speaker 3: at a stature like, oh did he play You know
- 41:07Speaker 3: he played in all the games? Yeah, there you go,
- 41:09Speaker 3: and one tackle one in games. That's the re I
- 41:14Speaker 3: think how he his number one priority is going to
- 41:16Speaker 3: be defensive end help because he's not doing anything and
- 41:19Speaker 3: that he's hurt. He's really hurting the team right now.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Yes, that was his gamble. That was his one gamble,
- 41:25Speaker 1: Bryce Huff, because he knew he had to make investments
- 41:28Speaker 1: in the secondary during this offseason.
- 41:30Speaker 2: He had to.
- 41:30Speaker 1: He was absolutely forced after after the play of the
- 41:33Speaker 1: secondary last year. But he made a gamble in terms
- 41:37Speaker 1: of Bryce Huff, and it's just it hasn't paid off.
- 41:40Speaker 1: So it's it's a it's a it's a great uh.
- 41:43Speaker 1: It's a great thing to hate from this Eagle season
- 41:45Speaker 1: thus far for me. And I'm going a little generic
- 41:49Speaker 1: on this one because uh, I certainly love this player,
- 41:53Speaker 1: but I hate that Lane Johnson is injured already with
- 41:57Speaker 1: this potential concussions. As a US recording this right now,
- 42:01Speaker 1: Wednesday night, September twenty fifth, we don't have any word
- 42:04Speaker 1: as to what's going on with him, what's going on
- 42:06Speaker 1: with DeVante Smith, what's going on with Eric's taking a
- 42:11Speaker 1: picture I'm distracted.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Okay, I was taking a selfie you in the background
- 42:17Speaker 3: and snapping my daughter.
- 42:18Speaker 2: No oh, very nice. All right, I should do that
- 42:21Speaker 2: more with my kids. All right.
- 42:23Speaker 3: That's how we communicate now, just dumb pictures.
- 42:25Speaker 4: I know.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Well, you got to keep the streak going. I do
- 42:27Speaker 2: that with the twins.
- 42:30Speaker 3: And then if you don't like you can buy something.
- 42:32Speaker 1: You can buy the street you can buy. It's like, Okay,
- 42:36Speaker 1: your time is up. You lost your street. But if
- 42:38Speaker 1: you give us a dollar, we'll keep it going for you.
- 42:42Speaker 3: It's a good marketing. But it seems crazy.
- 42:45Speaker 2: It's crazy. We've never done it. I've never done it,
- 42:47Speaker 2: my gosh. All right.
- 42:48Speaker 1: So getting back to Lane Johnson, what I hate is
- 42:50Speaker 1: that he's injured already because at this point in the season,
- 42:53Speaker 1: he's allowed zero sacks, zero quarterback hits, and zero pressures
- 42:59Speaker 1: when he has been out there. It's why I love
- 43:01Speaker 1: him and have loved him for years. He is the
- 43:04Speaker 1: best right tackle in football and he is already injured.
- 43:08Speaker 1: And it just makes me sad because I think that
- 43:11Speaker 1: this isn't going to be the first injury this season
- 43:13Speaker 1: with him. Is that growing injuries over the years. I
- 43:16Speaker 1: hate that Lane Johnson is already facing the injury bug here, Eric,
- 43:20Speaker 1: So that's that's that's kind of that one rate under
- 43:23Speaker 1: the radar thing for me that I hate with the
- 43:24Speaker 1: Eagles this season.
- 43:26Speaker 3: First of all, he's he's a Hall of Famer, He's
- 43:28Speaker 3: going to go to Hall of Fame, and he's been
- 43:31Speaker 3: their best offensive lineman for years. And I'm just going
- 43:34Speaker 3: through the twenty thirteen draft and the guys that were
- 43:37Speaker 3: picked above him, Eric Fisher, Luke Yokol yokel Eon Jordan
- 43:41Speaker 3: and then Lane Johnson. Yes, and like, good job Eagles, Yes,
- 43:46Speaker 3: drafting a hall of famer at.
- 43:47Speaker 2: The pick, and you know who it was. It was
- 43:49Speaker 2: Chip Kelly.
- 43:51Speaker 4: I know.
- 43:53Speaker 3: He did like three good things. So yeah, exactly, but no,
- 43:57Speaker 3: it's him missing any time. Is like a J. Smith
- 44:02Speaker 3: or J Brown. J Brown. Yes, I was thinking a J.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Brown not being in the offense is not good. But yes, yes,
- 44:12Speaker 3: is disastrous. Yeah exactly, it is. It is disastrous. And
- 44:16Speaker 3: and we've seen what's been happening with this team without
- 44:18Speaker 3: a J. Brown on the field.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Folks.
- 44:20Speaker 1: As much as I love Davante Smith, I love that guy.
- 44:22Speaker 1: He is a fantastic route runner. Ran a terrible route
- 44:25Speaker 1: in the end zone this past week led to an interception.
- 44:28Speaker 1: But still, when.
- 44:30Speaker 3: When is that Saints player, that piece of shit gonna
- 44:34Speaker 3: get a fine? I haven't heard anything.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Yet, he's not.
- 44:38Speaker 3: So yeah, it's open season. I had I thought this
- 44:41Speaker 3: was the new NFL where you can't touch people.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, exactly.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Okay, I guess just maybe maybe the last boy scout
- 44:49Speaker 3: kind of deal. The next game, our kickoff guy will
- 44:52Speaker 3: have a gun and just run down, like I guess,
- 44:55Speaker 3: everything is just on the.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Table at off shotgun. He just pulls it from his pants,
- 45:01Speaker 1: you know. He comes out and they're like, boy, those
- 45:02Speaker 1: guy's back and then all of a sudden, But.
- 45:06Speaker 3: How do you hold the ball though, Because you have
- 45:08Speaker 3: to like hold a sawd off with two hands, you do, Yeah,
- 45:11Speaker 3: whereas with a handgun you could just hold it here? True? Yeah, true, Yes,
- 45:17Speaker 3: you didn't think that through, Jeff, I didn't. Next step
- 45:23Speaker 3: in the NFL, folks, Next step All right, buddy, we're
- 45:26Speaker 3: gonna head out of here, take a break, then we're
- 45:29Speaker 3: gonna get egg crats on.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Uh got anything else before we head out?
- 45:34Speaker 3: No, I'm gonna go uh forget my next snap?
- 45:37Speaker 2: All right?
- 45:37Speaker 3: Oh?
- 45:38Speaker 2: Yes, you gotta snap away. Keep the streak. All right, everybody,
- 45:43Speaker 2: we're gonna take a break. We're gonna be back in
- 45:45Speaker 2: just a bit.
- 45:47Speaker 1: All right, we are back. Let's get into more Eagles
- 45:49Speaker 1: talk here. We've got a great interview with great discussion
- 45:52Speaker 1: coming your way.
- 45:52Speaker 2: It's what we're thrown down on the table and now
- 45:55Speaker 2: on the table.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Joining us this week. He is one of the longest
- 46:01Speaker 1: tenured Eagles beat reporters down at the Novacare Complex and
- 46:06Speaker 1: always at the link as well covering this team. We
- 46:10Speaker 1: absolutely love having him on the podcast from Philadelphia Eagles
- 46:15Speaker 1: over at SI We've.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Got the one and only Egg Kratz.
- 46:18Speaker 4: How you doing, buddy, Hey, I'm doing good, Jeff. Good
- 46:20Speaker 4: to see you again.
- 46:21Speaker 2: It's great to see you too.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Great to have you on to talk about this early
- 46:24Speaker 1: Eagle season and what we've seen from this team. They've
- 46:29Speaker 1: been playing some interesting football here thus far. We've seen
- 46:33Speaker 1: some really good play from them, We've seen some bad
- 46:37Speaker 1: play from them. We've seen some good drives, we've seen
- 46:39Speaker 1: some bad drives, and just also in my opinion, and
- 46:44Speaker 1: I think conventional opinions out there as well, that we've
- 46:48Speaker 1: seen some horrendous play calls every now and again in
- 46:50Speaker 1: certain game situations and some bad execution as well. My
- 46:54Speaker 1: buddy Eric and I my co host, We're just talking
- 46:57Speaker 1: about the fact that the team is pretty shaky still
- 46:59Speaker 1: at this point after a two and one start. So
- 47:02Speaker 1: I'm wondering, ed, if you had one word to describe
- 47:04Speaker 1: this Eagles team early this season, what would that one
- 47:07Speaker 1: word be?
- 47:08Speaker 2: And why?
- 47:10Speaker 4: Yeah, one word. You know, you can say a lot
- 47:12Speaker 4: of words, but I think the I think the one
- 47:16Speaker 4: word I would use would be growth. You know, we're
- 47:20Speaker 4: this is an Eagles team that is continuing to grow.
- 47:23Speaker 4: You say, it has looked ugly and it and it
- 47:25Speaker 4: has at times. Yeah, but they've won two games out
- 47:29Speaker 4: of three, which is, uh, you know, kind of unexpected
- 47:32Speaker 4: in my opinion, and I thought they were going to
- 47:34Speaker 4: lose in the Orleans. But this is a team that
- 47:35Speaker 4: needs to keep growing. You have two new coordinators. Jalen
- 47:40Speaker 4: Hurt said that, you know, a lot of this offense
- 47:42Speaker 4: is very new, and now they have the you know
- 47:47Speaker 4: fact that they that you know, they're on the road
- 47:49Speaker 4: a lot. You know, they've played you know, three of
- 47:51Speaker 4: these games away from home. I guess we like there's
- 47:54Speaker 4: two of them, and now they're going on the road
- 47:55Speaker 4: against Sunday against Tampa, So you know, they have a
- 47:58Speaker 4: lot of road games and they just have to continue
- 48:00Speaker 4: to grow. Within the offense. The defense is very young.
- 48:04Speaker 4: You know, you're starting a corner a rookie cornerback in
- 48:06Speaker 4: Quinya and Mitchell. You have two defensive tackles that are
- 48:09Speaker 4: under the age of twenty five, and Jordan Davis and
- 48:11Speaker 4: Jalen Carter. Yeah, you still have Brandon Graham and Darius Slay,
- 48:15Speaker 4: a couple veterans, but it's a very young team, even
- 48:18Speaker 4: though Kobe Dean is just in his third year at
- 48:20Speaker 4: linebacker and Zach Bahn is twenty six years old. So
- 48:24Speaker 4: they need to grow. They need to grow Dick Vangio's
- 48:27Speaker 4: scheme on defense, get more snaps. And I expect that
- 48:31Speaker 4: if this team does continue this growth process, that we're
- 48:34Speaker 4: going to see some good things at the end of
- 48:37Speaker 4: the season, which is when you really want to be
- 48:39Speaker 4: playing well. And this is a division that you know,
- 48:42Speaker 4: is kind of wide open in my opinion. There's you know,
- 48:44Speaker 4: Manners look pretty good, the Cowboys not so good. The Giants,
- 48:48Speaker 4: you know, they won a game last week. So it's
- 48:50Speaker 4: a division that I don't think anybody's going to stand
- 48:52Speaker 4: up and run away with it right. Absolutely a close division,
- 48:56Speaker 4: and I think it could be there when the Eagles
- 48:58Speaker 4: start to continue this growth and are there at the
- 49:01Speaker 4: end in the mix.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I like the word growth ed because it means that
- 49:05Speaker 1: there is productivity happening. You know, there are hiccups along
- 49:09Speaker 1: the way, but at the end of the day, it's
- 49:12Speaker 1: a more positive way to describe this team given the
- 49:15Speaker 1: troubles and the trials and tribulations they had with regard
- 49:18Speaker 1: to executing certain plays. It gives positivity to a defensive
- 49:23Speaker 1: line that we're going to get into in a little
- 49:25Speaker 1: bit that really needs to start showing us something as well.
- 49:29Speaker 1: But as we're moving along, I wanted to dive into
- 49:32Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts here. He's one of the top five passing
- 49:36Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the league thus far, even not having his
- 49:40Speaker 1: number one wide receiver and A J. Brown for the
- 49:42Speaker 1: past two weeks. I mean, he's actually number four in
- 49:45Speaker 1: the league as we are recording this. He's continuing to
- 49:48Speaker 1: turn the ball over, however, which is a problem, and
- 49:51Speaker 1: we're seeing some inconsistencies from this offense from time to
- 49:56Speaker 1: time with him with regard to the RPO and whether
- 49:59Speaker 1: that's Hurts of the coaching staff, I'm not one hundred
- 50:01Speaker 1: percent sure. I'm wondering what are your thoughts on what
- 50:05Speaker 1: we've been seeing from Jalen Hurts early this season and
- 50:08Speaker 1: what he needs to work on early on? Eric and
- 50:11Speaker 1: I were just actually talking about some things and his uh, him,
- 50:16Speaker 1: his completion rate against the Blitz has improved dramatically already
- 50:20Speaker 1: this year, which I love.
- 50:21Speaker 3: But it's not perfect. It probably will never be perfect.
- 50:24Speaker 3: He's not Tom Brady by any stretch. But what have
- 50:27Speaker 3: you been seeing from Jalen Hurts early on this season?
- 50:29Speaker 3: What does he need to work on? Ed?
- 50:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, listen that not every turnover is created equal.
- 50:34Speaker 4: You know, it's great to put that out there. I
- 50:36Speaker 4: mean that interception he threw in the end zone, a
- 50:38Speaker 4: lot of people thought maybe DeVante Smith didn't really run
- 50:41Speaker 4: the right route, or he didn't fight hard enough for
- 50:44Speaker 4: the football, which is rare for DeVante Smith. So you know,
- 50:47Speaker 4: Hurts gets credited with these interceptions. That fumble that he
- 50:50Speaker 4: was charged with in the opener against the Packers, that
- 50:53Speaker 4: was on Cam Jurgens well, a premature snap, but yet
- 50:56Speaker 4: it goes on Hurts the side of the ledger. So
- 50:59Speaker 4: you know, you kind of have to look at each
- 51:01Speaker 4: turnover individually. No, I'm not excusing Hurts for this. I
- 51:04Speaker 4: mean this is his fifth year in the league, and
- 51:07Speaker 4: some of his decision making on these turnovers has been
- 51:10Speaker 4: a little bit shaky, you know. I think he's late
- 51:13Speaker 4: sometimes with his throws. I think those two interceptions he
- 51:16Speaker 4: had in Green Bay, he was late with those those throws.
- 51:19Speaker 3: You know.
- 51:20Speaker 4: So he needs to make quicker decisions and process things.
- 51:23Speaker 4: And this is his fifth season. He should be able
- 51:25Speaker 4: to do that. So I think he just needs to
- 51:28Speaker 4: work on that. Is not being so careless with the football,
- 51:31Speaker 4: not being afraid to throw it away. I mean, you
- 51:34Speaker 4: don't see him throw the ball away at all, not
- 51:36Speaker 4: at all, you know, So you'd like to see him
- 51:39Speaker 4: maybe do that and live to fight another down, especially
- 51:42Speaker 4: when you're down in field goal range. You know, you
- 51:45Speaker 4: can't turn the football over in those situations. You have
- 51:49Speaker 4: to be happy with the three points if you take
- 51:51Speaker 4: the three points. We talk about the decision making with
- 51:54Speaker 4: Nick Ryanni. He doesn't always take the three points, but listen,
- 51:58Speaker 4: you still have to give yourself an opportunity to make
- 52:00Speaker 4: that decision, whether you're going to kick it or not.
- 52:02Speaker 4: So you know, listen, he's got seven straight games now
- 52:05Speaker 4: dating back to last season with an interception. Not good.
- 52:09Speaker 4: But on the other side of that is the Eagles
- 52:12Speaker 4: are three and four in those games, which you know
- 52:14Speaker 4: he's able to respond within a game on the very
- 52:17Speaker 4: next series. He doesn't let them get to him. You know,
- 52:21Speaker 4: he still remains unflappable, and the players in the huddle
- 52:24Speaker 4: really notice that. Saquon Barkley gave him the greatest compliment
- 52:27Speaker 4: when he said, you know, the thing I've learned about
- 52:28Speaker 4: him is his poys. He comes into that huddle like
- 52:31Speaker 4: everything that just happened, whether it was good or bad,
- 52:34Speaker 4: is in the past now, and we're looking to do
- 52:36Speaker 4: something right now in the presence. So that's to his credit.
- 52:39Speaker 4: But again, these interceptions, they have to stop, even if
- 52:43Speaker 4: they're not his fault. He needs to just do a
- 52:46Speaker 4: better job of giving his receivers or better chances at
- 52:51Speaker 4: the ball or just throwing it away when it's not there.
- 52:52Speaker 1: He's got to start throwing the ball away at times.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Like you said, there are a couple interceptions early in
- 52:58Speaker 1: this season here that didn't have to happen. They didn't
- 53:01Speaker 1: have to happen if you just threw the ball away,
- 53:03Speaker 1: and I hope he I hope he continues to grow.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Utilizing that word and using that word that you used earlier,
- 53:11Speaker 1: ed he can continue to grow even after five years
- 53:14Speaker 1: in this league. But what I'm what I'm really concerned
- 53:17Speaker 1: about moving forward here, and I don't know how concerned
- 53:20Speaker 1: we should all be, but the the injuries that are
- 53:23Speaker 1: just racking up on this team. Lane Johnson, Mackay, Beckton,
- 53:27Speaker 1: AJ Brown, as I mentioned earlier, has been out for
- 53:30Speaker 1: the past two games. Who knows if he's going to
- 53:31Speaker 1: start this week as of us recording this, we're not sure.
- 53:34Speaker 1: DeVante Smith taking that huge hit. Britain Covey, who's been
- 53:39Speaker 1: he's been effective on punt returns, and you know he's
- 53:42Speaker 1: not going to be around for quite some time going
- 53:45Speaker 1: on the IR Do you think this team is meeting
- 53:48Speaker 1: the moment head on in terms of overcoming the injury
- 53:52Speaker 1: adversity that they have seen thus far or do you
- 53:54Speaker 1: think they have been faltering from it from what you've seen?
- 53:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think it's still to be written
- 54:01Speaker 4: how they're going to respond to it. You know, like
- 54:03Speaker 4: you mentioned these injuries. Now, McKai Becton is going to
- 54:05Speaker 4: play on Sunday. I saw him in the locker room
- 54:07Speaker 4: on Wednesday, and you know, I asked him about his
- 54:12Speaker 4: injury and he had his fingers wrapped. He tore a
- 54:14Speaker 4: ligament in his ring finger on his left hand. Uh,
- 54:17Speaker 4: and he said, I couldn't do anything when I tried
- 54:19Speaker 4: to hit somebody, the finger would just flop backwards. Yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 4: so you know he's got a cast for it, So
- 54:24Speaker 4: he's going to play with a cast. So I guess
- 54:26Speaker 4: that's good. Old Tyler Stein stepped in and did a
- 54:28Speaker 4: nice job when when when Beckdon went out, Lane was
- 54:31Speaker 4: at practice on Wednesday doing some stretching, which was good
- 54:34Speaker 4: to see, you know, because it was it was an
- 54:36Speaker 4: inside practice. The lights were bright, so you know he
- 54:39Speaker 4: was able to handle that. I don't know if he'll play. See,
- 54:42Speaker 4: the Eagles have the luxury of coming out of this
- 54:44Speaker 4: game and going on their bye week, so you don't
- 54:47Speaker 4: have to rush these guys back. If you lose your
- 54:49Speaker 4: two and two coming out of the by, it's not
- 54:51Speaker 4: the end of the world. You know, the season is
- 54:53Speaker 4: still you know, at the quarter pole. Really you still
- 54:56Speaker 4: have the bulk of your season left. So I expect
- 54:58Speaker 4: they'll play it cautious with age. I don't think Devonte
- 55:01Speaker 4: will play, you know, so you know your two key
- 55:03Speaker 4: receivers are down now. Jalen Hurts talked about this yesterday.
- 55:06Speaker 4: I think he's kind of embracing the opportunity to watch
- 55:09Speaker 4: others step up, guys like Johan Dotts and maybe Johnny Wilson,
- 55:13Speaker 4: maybe Paris Campbell. They re signed John Ross to the
- 55:16Speaker 4: practice squad. But it's interesting they have more receivers on
- 55:18Speaker 4: the practice squad than they do in the active rosters.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Four receivers on the active roster, five on the practice squad,
- 55:25Speaker 4: So you know, that's interesting. But I think I think
- 55:28Speaker 4: it's I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily to
- 55:31Speaker 4: deal with this. You know, the Eagles haven't you know,
- 55:33Speaker 4: Jalen Devonte Smith played thirty three or thirty four games
- 55:37Speaker 4: the last two years.
- 55:38Speaker 1: A J.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Brown started thirty four straight regular season games the last
- 55:41Speaker 4: two years. So you know, the Eagles are gonna have
- 55:43Speaker 4: to find another way, and they're gonna have to build
- 55:45Speaker 4: up the opportunities for others. And I think in the
- 55:47Speaker 4: long term, should this happen again or it need to be,
- 55:51Speaker 4: this is a good thing for them to learn how
- 55:52Speaker 4: to play without these two top guys, it won't be easy.
- 55:55Speaker 4: But Hurts talked about embracing the opportunity of watching other
- 55:59Speaker 4: step step up, and he said, I'm not afraid to
- 56:01Speaker 4: lead through that. So, uh, you know, and let's not
- 56:04Speaker 4: forget they still have two pretty darn good weapons and
- 56:06Speaker 4: Dallas got it in Saquon Barker.
- 56:07Speaker 2: There you go.
- 56:08Speaker 4: Health.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Dallas Goddard showed us so much. I mean, I
- 56:11Speaker 1: feel like he hasn't been part of the game plan.
- 56:14Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like he was early in the first
- 56:16Speaker 1: two games of the season, and then seems like the
- 56:19Speaker 1: offense was forced to actually include him into the game plan.
- 56:23Speaker 1: And it was great to see because he's a talented
- 56:25Speaker 1: tight end.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, it was good to see. And you know, listen,
- 56:28Speaker 4: Dallas is a great He never complains about anything. He
- 56:31Speaker 4: always says, as long as we're winning. Yeah, I'm fine
- 56:34Speaker 4: with whatever targets I get. He loves the block, he says.
- 56:37Speaker 4: But it was interesting after they lost that game to Atlanta.
- 56:39Speaker 4: In the last seconds there, he was the first one
- 56:43Speaker 4: out of the locker room. Like when the locker room
- 56:45Speaker 4: opened to let reporters in, Dallas got it was already
- 56:47Speaker 4: heading out yeah, and asked him about that. I said,
- 56:49Speaker 4: you know, you always say you're happy when you're getting
- 56:51Speaker 4: when you're winning and not getting your targets. He didn't win,
- 56:53Speaker 4: you didn't get any targets. And he said, oh, I
- 56:55Speaker 4: was just in a hurry. I asked him about leaving
- 56:57Speaker 4: the locker room so quick, and he's like, I says, like, wow,
- 57:00Speaker 4: I was just in a hurry to go watch the
- 57:02Speaker 4: game film. Yeh okay, Well we'll say I think he
- 57:04Speaker 4: was kind of a little fudge there, but yeah, you know,
- 57:07Speaker 4: but listen, he responded, well, I mean that catch, he
- 57:10Speaker 4: made it a sixty one yard cat. It was just tremendous.
- 57:13Speaker 4: He was wide open, he said. He looked around and
- 57:15Speaker 4: he's like, where is everybody around them? So listen. He
- 57:20Speaker 4: had a great game and he's a great guy and
- 57:22Speaker 4: it was good to see.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, well ed, let's move over to the
- 57:25Speaker 1: defense here, specifically the defensive line, but really quick, folks,
- 57:28Speaker 1: who are listening, if you're not following Ed on the
- 57:31Speaker 1: Twitter slash X follow him. He's a great, great follow
- 57:35Speaker 1: at kratz E great great follow And there's a lot
- 57:39Speaker 1: of heat coming down on Bryce Huff and how he
- 57:42Speaker 1: hasn't been a productive aspect of this Philadelphia Eagles pass
- 57:46Speaker 1: rush so far this season. I'm wondering ed from what
- 57:49Speaker 1: you're seeing, like what's happening with Bryce Huff and the
- 57:52Speaker 1: fact that he really has been a non factor in
- 57:55Speaker 1: this Eagles defense throughout this early part of the season.
- 57:58Speaker 1: It's not good to see given that contract, even given
- 58:00Speaker 1: what we did see on the field from him when
- 58:02Speaker 1: he was in New York with the Jets. What's happening
- 58:05Speaker 1: here with Bryce Huff?
- 58:07Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, the Eagles took a big leap, Howi
- 58:09Speaker 4: Roseman took a big leap with him. They thought, you know,
- 58:12Speaker 4: they looked at him as a twenty five or twenty
- 58:14Speaker 4: six year old guy that had ten sacks. They figured, Okay,
- 58:17Speaker 4: this guy is going to continue to ascend. Yea, and
- 58:20Speaker 4: he could be I think he's twenty seven actually now
- 58:23Speaker 4: they think about it. But anyway, he's a black guy
- 58:26Speaker 4: that we think could be on the rise. He had
- 58:28Speaker 4: the big step with the Jets ten sacks, and we
- 58:31Speaker 4: think he can build on That hasn't been the case
- 58:34Speaker 4: so far. It was a big roll of the dice
- 58:35Speaker 4: by Howie and you know, three games in, I'm not
- 58:38Speaker 4: ready to say, hey, it was a bad signing, but
- 58:40Speaker 4: it's trending in that direction. I mean, he just doesn't
- 58:43Speaker 4: seem to feel comfortable with whatever Vic Fangio is asking
- 58:47Speaker 4: him to do. They wanted him to be a three
- 58:49Speaker 4: down player where he could stop the run and stay
- 58:52Speaker 4: on the field to rush the passer, and it just
- 58:54Speaker 4: hasn't worked out. I don't know if he's in his
- 58:56Speaker 4: head thinking about that kind of thing.
- 58:58Speaker 1: But he's hardly getting off the blocks and it's he's
- 59:03Speaker 1: getting he's getting dominated at the line and not even
- 59:07Speaker 1: getting to the backfield the majority of his snaps that
- 59:09Speaker 1: he's getting. It's mind boggling.
- 59:11Speaker 4: Yeah, to me, it almost, Jeff, it seems like he's
- 59:13Speaker 4: thinking too much. You know, he's just not playing and
- 59:16Speaker 4: just cutting it loose and going up field and looking
- 59:19Speaker 4: to get after the passer. It's almost like he's thinking
- 59:22Speaker 4: too much instead of playing and using his instincts. Because
- 59:25Speaker 4: we saw him do that last year with the Jets
- 59:27Speaker 4: and he was effective in his role. But now with
- 59:30Speaker 4: this new you know, fans he was trying to make
- 59:33Speaker 4: him become more of a three down guy. Maybe he
- 59:35Speaker 4: is thinking too much, and you know, I think you'll
- 59:37Speaker 4: figure it out. I hate to lose confidence in a
- 59:40Speaker 4: player this quickly, especially so young, right, a young guy,
- 59:44Speaker 4: and you got him for three more years, I mean,
- 59:47Speaker 4: so you have time to kind of let him figure
- 59:49Speaker 4: it out. But in the meantime, thank goodness, they have
- 59:52Speaker 4: Brandon Graham who has been tremendous. Uh, you know, he's
- 59:55Speaker 4: playing a lot. He's in his final year, maybe, but
- 59:59Speaker 4: he he's been really, really good. And that has been
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: to the Eagles benefit because now Bryce Stuff doesn't have
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: to play forty snaps. He only played eighteen last week,
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: and Fangio doesn't care that he's making fifty one million
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: dollars the next three years. Right, And if I knew
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: what was wrong with him, I would say, hey, why
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: don't you give me a million dollars and I'll give
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: you the answer. Right, Yeah, I would charge him for
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: the answer.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: Again, I think maybe he's just thinking a little too
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: much instead of just going out there and playing.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Well, speaking of the Eagles defense, as we're moving along
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: with the conversation here, the linebacker play has been much
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: more productive than I think a lot of us initially
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: thought before the season started, which has been a real
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: pleasant surprise, But I was also hoping to get your
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: thoughts ed on where the Eagles secondary is currently at
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: this season, because, as we know, Howie Roseman and the
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: front office made it a priority to focus on this
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: secondary during the off season. What's the perception of how
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: the secondary has really been performing given the expectations of
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: this group coming into the season.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: What are your thoughts here?
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know they've had moments and listen,
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: Red Blankenship in that secondary of safety. Two interceptions and
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: he's got six and I think twenty two starts, twenty
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: eight games. He's got said this kid and Fangio was
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: asked about it. The kid can catch the football and
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: that's a big start. You know, He's not like he
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: drops the ball or anything like that. He's a playmaker.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: And his interceptions always come in big spots. You know,
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: he had one against green Bay set the Eagles up
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: for the game when you know, the touchdown and put
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: them ahead yep for good late in the game. And
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: then the big one on Sunday against the Saints sealed
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: to win. So I like him. Chauncey Gardner Johnson, you know,
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: he needs to probably do a little better job in tackling, but.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: I think he's okay.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: He made a big fourth and one stop against the Falcons.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: You think, okay, that wins the game. You know, five
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: and a half minutes left, the Eagles keep the ball.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: But it didn't happen that way. That could have been
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: a gameplay, a play that won the game in a sense.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: You know, Well, he whiffed on a tackle that allowed
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: a touchdown, and he whiffed on the big play.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: You know, so yeah, you'd like to see him do
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: a better job of tackling. But you know, listen again,
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: he's he's kind of a playmaker. He hasn't really had
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: the interceptions, but he did make that fourth and one stop.
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: And then you talk about Quinyan Mitchell. He's a guy
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: that needs to learn how to catch the ball. I
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: mean he's had a couple of interceptions. Yes that he
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: let go buy him, but he's a young kid. And
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: I like the way Quenyan's playing, you know, the Eagles
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: like it. I think. You know, he's played just about
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: every snap on the on the defensive side of the
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: ball except for maybe.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Two or three, which is incredible for a rookie.
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: Incredible for at a position that's tough to play, so
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: I like him Slay as a veteran who I think.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: You know, he gave up the touchdown pass against London
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Drake or Drake London the Falcons late, he admitted, you know,
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: my eyes are in a bad spot. I looked inside
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: where their tendencies usually are, and they cut it outside
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: on me. So you know, I still believe in Slay.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: I'd like to see them maybe spell him a little
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: bit to keep him fresh for seventeen games, maybe give
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: him an in game series or two on the bench
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: to kind of keep the legs fresh. Yeah, for the
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: marathon season, but I don't. I think that the play
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: has been good and how we threw a lot of
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: resources at it, obviously, right they drafted Quinna and Cooper
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: the gene. We haven't really seen his role develop yet,
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: but I think we will as the season goes on.
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: Miss three weeks during training camp. You know, Isaiah Rodgers
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: hasn't played. They brought him in a young kid, so
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: how he has thrown a lot of resources at it.
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: And I think again it's a growth process for this secondary.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: A lot of new parts trying to figure out how
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: Fangio wants them to play. A lot of young kids
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: trying to figure out where they need to be in
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: different you know, times of the game. So, you know,
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: I like it. I think I think it's it's an
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: evolving secondary, but I think they have a lot of
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: talent there.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: All right, very good, Well, gonna be letting you go
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: in just a minute here, But to close us out,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and before I let you go, I'd like to just
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: get your thoughts on what has been the biggest surprise
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: for you early in this Eagle season. From what you
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: have seen, you have a great pulse on this team,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: what happens in the locker room, what you're seeing on
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: the field. What's been that biggest surprise for you early
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: in this Eagle season.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's been kind of the offensive line,
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: you know, because it was kind of rebuilt a little bit.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: You know. Obviously Jason Kelsey leaves and Cam Jurgens has
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: stepped in, and I think he's done a pretty darn
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: good job in the middle of that line you have
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: because he moves over from right guard the center, you
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: have an opening at right guard and mc kaye Beckton
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: has stepped in there very well to he's never played
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: guard in his life. You know, he's always a tackle.
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: He was at the eleventh overall pick of the Jets
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: and he played nothing but tackles. So his transformation into
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: what looks like a pretty solid guard has been a
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: bit eye opening for me as well. And then you
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: look at the depth. I was concerned about the depth,
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: but then you have Tyler Steen and Fred Johnson step
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: in early against the Saints and you know, they it
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: wasn't perfect, but they did a pretty good job. He
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: didn't really notice them that much, right, and that's a
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: good thing thing, right, That's a good thing for an
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: offensive line. And so, you know, that has kind of
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: surprised me. So even though everybody just assumes, oh they
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: have Jordan Malatta, Landon, Dickerson, Lane Johnson, this is a
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: great offensive line. You just don't roll those guys out
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: there and expect them to be great. They have to
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: work at it. They had two new pieces on it,
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: and the depth I think has been kind of eye opening.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: And again that's a credit to Jeff Stalin, just a
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: great offensive line coach. He's a run game coordinator. The
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: run game is really doing well. Saw Barkley is you know,
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: off to a you know, he leads the league in
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: rushing with three hundred and fifty one yards, and he
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: runs hard every single time and he's always going forward.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: But again, the offensive line helps him get these yards.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: So to me, I think the biggest surprise has been
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: this kind of reconfigured O line and how well it's playing.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Folks, Kratz here from Eagles over on s I give
