Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, emilya body here. You're listening a five minute
- 0:21Speaker 1: Friday from Hurdle. Can I tell you that this week
- 0:27Speaker 1: has felt really, how do I say this? Fulfilling? It's
- 0:32Speaker 1: felt fulfilling and it's felt good. I would be remiss
- 0:35Speaker 1: if I didn't say that. The last month or so
- 0:39Speaker 1: has certainly, on the work front, at the very least,
- 0:43Speaker 1: held its fair share of challenges. I felt as though
- 0:47Speaker 1: I was throwing some stuff at the wall and hoping
- 0:50Speaker 1: it would stick, and nothing was sticking. And on Wednesday
- 0:56Speaker 1: and Thursday of this week it felt like, after weeks
- 1:02Speaker 1: months of throwing stuff at the wall, not only was
- 1:06Speaker 1: it's sticking, but it was happening in abundance. And it's
- 1:11Speaker 1: so easy these days in we talk about it all
- 1:15Speaker 1: the time, this culture, this climate of the highlight reel
- 1:18Speaker 1: to just have the impression that someone is winning all
- 1:22Speaker 1: of the time. And I will be the first person,
- 1:26Speaker 1: well maybe not the first person, but I will be
- 1:28Speaker 1: the person today that tells you that that is just
- 1:30Speaker 1: so not true, that is not how it works forever.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yes that I hear, I'm likely told a dozen knows,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and every so often I have these days. I have
- 1:46Speaker 1: these days where it feels as though, what did I
- 1:48Speaker 1: do to deserve this goodness? And I was reminded this
- 1:52Speaker 1: week that what I did was that I persevered. What
- 1:56Speaker 1: I did was that I put in the work. What
- 1:59Speaker 1: I did is that I kept showing up even when
- 2:02Speaker 1: it felt hard. And so this week, for five minute Friday,
- 2:06Speaker 1: which might actually come in at exactly five minutes, this
- 2:10Speaker 1: is really all that I want to run home. I
- 2:13Speaker 1: want to tell you to keep going. I want to
- 2:15Speaker 1: tell you to keep your chin up. I just watched
- 2:17Speaker 1: the last season of Missus Mazel, and in Missus Masel,
- 2:20Speaker 1: the marvelous Missus Masel, she says to her manager all
- 2:24Speaker 1: of the time, tits up. And so I want to
- 2:28Speaker 1: tell you, tits up. The journey is gonna have bumps,
- 2:32Speaker 1: they are gonna be hurdles. But if you can just
- 2:35Speaker 1: believe that there is goodness that is out there for you,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and that if you keep being a good person and
- 2:41Speaker 1: being kind, it will come back around. Then trust me,
- 2:46Speaker 1: the hard days are gonna feel a little bit easier
- 2:48Speaker 1: knowing that, I promise you. I do want to say
- 2:52Speaker 1: that on the day that it felt like all the
- 2:53Speaker 1: good things kept coming. The first day on Wednesday of
- 2:56Speaker 1: this week, I had a busy schedule and I scheduled
- 3:00Speaker 1: in a workout for myself at twelve noon, which you
- 3:04Speaker 1: know me, is not my normal. I'm definitely typically a
- 3:06Speaker 1: morning workout person. But I was lying in my bed
- 3:09Speaker 1: that day and knew I needed another hour and a
- 3:12Speaker 1: half and so I scheduled in that time for myself.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And by taking that time, by making time for myself,
- 3:20Speaker 1: by giving to myself, it felt like that was the
- 3:23Speaker 1: foundation for me to then open myself up to goodness,
- 3:28Speaker 1: to be more fully present in the things that I
- 3:30Speaker 1: was doing. And as a result, the good things started coming,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I believe because I started by being good to myself.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And so I prompt for you this week, how can
- 3:40Speaker 1: you be good to you? What is one thing that
- 3:43Speaker 1: you can do for yourself today that doesn't need to
- 3:45Speaker 1: take mounds of effort. Maybe a compliment that you can
- 3:49Speaker 1: give yourself, a fifteen minute break that you can take,
- 3:52Speaker 1: take a walk around the block, splurging for that iced
- 3:55Speaker 1: coffee that you've avoided getting all week because you're trying
- 3:58Speaker 1: to be a little bit better with your spending. I
- 4:00Speaker 1: get it. I am always with you. What can you
- 4:04Speaker 1: do for you today to give back to you, and
- 4:08Speaker 1: now a listener question.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Hi Emily calling in from San Diego. Hope you're having
- 4:13Speaker 2: a great day. I wanted to see if you have
- 4:17Speaker 2: any suggestions or tips for someone who wants to get
- 4:21Speaker 2: into cycling. I'm a longtime runner and have a chronic
- 4:28Speaker 2: knee injury unfortunately now, so I am unable to keep
- 4:32Speaker 2: running like I used to, and I'm really looking for
- 4:35Speaker 2: a new active hobby that can keep me moving and
- 4:40Speaker 2: kind of fill the void in terms of that dwarphin rush.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But I am super duber beginner when it comes to biking.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It looks like something I would really enjoy, but kind
- 4:50Speaker 2: of scared to get started and not really sure where
- 4:53Speaker 2: to get started. So any tips you have would be amazing.
- 4:57Speaker 2: And yeah, thank you for everything that you do. Appreciate you.
- 5:01Speaker 1: It's as if you read my mind. Lucky for you.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Listener from San Diego. Today is weekly Heardle newsletter is
- 5:09Speaker 1: sharing four essential lessons I learned as a new cyclist. Now.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I know that you're asking specifically about tips to getting
- 5:17Speaker 1: on the bike, and my biggest tip truly is just
- 5:22Speaker 1: to start. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars
- 5:25Speaker 1: on a good bike In fact, there are plenty of
- 5:27Speaker 1: bikes that are for sale on sites like Craigslist and
- 5:31Speaker 1: Facebook Marketplace so that you can get in the saddle
- 5:34Speaker 1: at a discounted price. Now, once you do get your wheels,
- 5:37Speaker 1: once you get on the bike, my biggest tip, like
- 5:41Speaker 1: I said, is to simply just start and keep it
- 5:44Speaker 1: super local in that process. So, I know that riding
- 5:48Speaker 1: far from home can be really intimidating, So do yourself
- 5:52Speaker 1: a favor, make a loop around the neighborhood that feels
- 5:56Speaker 1: safe for you, make sure somebody has your location, and
- 6:00Speaker 1: start out with just twenty minutes. And then before you
- 6:04Speaker 1: know it that twenty minutes you're going to be ready
- 6:07Speaker 1: to elevate and upgrade to thirty, thirty to forty and
- 6:11Speaker 1: so on. So the biggest tip here when it comes
- 6:14Speaker 1: to wanting to start something new, and I love that
- 6:16Speaker 1: this listener is listening to their body, is to truly
- 6:20Speaker 1: just start and know that you're not the only person
- 6:23Speaker 1: that's a beginner. There are going to be so many
- 6:26Speaker 1: great let's see resources out there, Instagram pages, a lot
- 6:30Speaker 1: of really great helpful content. Follow all of the people,
- 6:34Speaker 1: gain all of their wisdom, and be easy with yourself again.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Knowing that it's okay to be a beginner, and you
- 6:41Speaker 1: only get the opportunity to be a beginner once. So,
- 6:45Speaker 1: like I said before, tits up. You've got this. Make sure,
- 6:50Speaker 1: like I said before, head on over to the Weekly
- 6:51Speaker 1: Hurdle to get more insight onto this topic. And if
- 6:54Speaker 1: you yourself have a listener question, I'm all yours. Head
