- 0:39Speaker 3: All right, guys, Jim are going about this.
- 0:44Speaker 2: The wrong way here.
- 0:46Speaker 3: What if we have everybody that needs to subscribe subscribe?
- 0:50Speaker 3: What if we say, hey, maybe send this to one
- 0:53Speaker 3: of your friends that needs to hear more about the Cardinals.
- 0:56Speaker 3: You know, I think sharing it, sharing it is just
- 0:59Speaker 3: as good as as uh a subscriber.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You're right, Okay, So maybe Kyle can sert signing baseballs
- 1:07Speaker 2: and we can send him to new subscribers, or you know,
- 1:10Speaker 2: there's all kinds of stuff we can pull off.
- 1:14Speaker 3: And say would you rather have a Lance Lynn ball
- 1:16Speaker 3: or a Kyle Gibson ball? And then I think we
- 1:17Speaker 3: can settle it that way. How about that way?
- 1:19Speaker 1: Obviously, Kyle, but I do like the premise of if
- 1:23Speaker 1: you're a subscriber, tell a friend. So opening day in
- 1:28Speaker 1: Saint Louis, Cardinals with a big nine to seven, come
- 1:30Speaker 1: from behind when lots to talk about, But the first
- 1:33Speaker 1: thing I want to talk about is opening Day in
- 1:37Speaker 1: Saint Louis because look, I was there and I almost forgot,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Like you see the Red Jackets, the Clydesdale was a
- 1:44Speaker 1: beautiful day, see her right and all that, but there
- 1:47Speaker 1: is truth to it, and you guys have been through that.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So Lance, I'm going to start with you opening day
- 1:53Speaker 1: in Saint Louis, and you've been to other opening days. Oh,
- 1:57Speaker 1: it is special in Saint Louis, don't you agree with it?
- 1:59Speaker 2: So what makes it special? I mean yeah, one hundred percent.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You start off with clyde Zales, Right, nobody's got that,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and there's and there's no way to there's no way
- 2:09Speaker 2: to match it. And then you have all the Hall
- 2:11Speaker 2: of Famers are there, and then you know fans are
- 2:15Speaker 2: are in the in the building. It's packed. So they
- 2:18Speaker 2: do it right in every form, honoring the new season,
- 2:22Speaker 2: honoring the past and everything, all the traditions. So yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you can't beat what they've what they've put together there,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and they do a great job with it. And I
- 2:31Speaker 2: know is one of those places where no matter how
- 2:34Speaker 2: many times you go through it, it's it gives you
- 2:37Speaker 2: the like the goosebumps. You get that feeling of excitement
- 2:41Speaker 2: and kind of nervousness too when you're riding around in
- 2:44Speaker 2: there doing all that. So it's always a fun time
- 2:46Speaker 2: that time of year.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think Opening Day is really special.
- 2:51Speaker 3: You know, every team thinks that they do Opening Day
- 2:53Speaker 3: really well, and most teams do. But I think the
- 2:57Speaker 3: different touches of having the Clydes Dales and and the
- 2:59Speaker 3: Bush connecttion, uh you know, creates a different idea and
- 3:03Speaker 3: create different dynamic, I should say. And then the Hall
- 3:07Speaker 3: of Fame, the Red Jackets at home plate, it's pretty cool,
- 3:09Speaker 3: you know, getting to go and shake the hands of
- 3:11Speaker 3: the cardinal greats, which man, I can't wait to see
- 3:13Speaker 3: the Lance in a couple of years, having a handshake
- 3:15Speaker 3: everybody as they walk past, and just you know, getting
- 3:19Speaker 3: that fresh beard out there in a red jacket's gonna
- 3:22Speaker 3: be really good.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It would be a nice touch opening day. Yeah, we
- 3:27Speaker 2: might just have to go check that out.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So all right, I'm gonna make that a priority.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Get Lance his red jacket. Let's do that.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So oh there's again. Well, I mean they'll get the
- 3:40Speaker 1: they'll get those guys in and then we'll work on it.
- 3:44Speaker 1: So eight to nine to seven win for the Cardinals,
- 3:47Speaker 1: eight runs in the six, a lot of two strike hits,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Burly with the with the big blast. It's one game.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I get that, but you know, we're looking to accentuate
- 3:58Speaker 1: the positive. But it's one game. But is there Lance?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Is there anything to glean from that? They got some
- 4:04Speaker 1: good pitching from Libby, JJ had his first homer, they
- 4:08Speaker 1: had a nice comeback. Is there anything to glean from that?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Say it what you want, Jim, You're gonna say that
- 4:13Speaker 2: we're gonna win it all one hundred and sixty two
- 4:15Speaker 2: and oh after that comeback, that's what it's all about
- 4:18Speaker 2: right here. No, it was exciting to see right when
- 4:21Speaker 2: you're you've got a young team and all that. You
- 4:23Speaker 2: want to see their fight, and you saw it right away.
- 4:26Speaker 2: They're not going to give up. They're going to be scrappy.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm looking through that any I see the bunt hit
- 4:31Speaker 2: by Victor and all that. The things that they can
- 4:33Speaker 2: do up and down the lineup are there. You know,
- 4:37Speaker 2: now it's going to be consistency and stuff like that.
- 4:39Speaker 2: But to be able to come back kind of you know,
- 4:42Speaker 2: having the blow up any any four where they give
- 4:45Speaker 2: up six to come back and score eight is a
- 4:47Speaker 2: huge thing. It's all about, you know. Michael Dretti used
- 4:52Speaker 2: to say right back, but he used another word in
- 4:54Speaker 2: the middle. And when you're able to come right back,
- 4:57Speaker 2: when you get kind of slapped in the face and
- 4:59Speaker 2: then turn around and do it right back to them,
- 5:01Speaker 2: that's huge and it's also huge for your As the
- 5:04Speaker 2: year builds on, you're gonna find some chemistry. They're gonna
- 5:07Speaker 2: they're gonna have some fun with it, and you see
- 5:09Speaker 2: the youth of hey, we're not out of it. We
- 5:12Speaker 2: can do some things and we can have fun while
- 5:14Speaker 2: we're doing it and show some energy. So it was
- 5:16Speaker 2: exciting to see that because they're gonna have some ups
- 5:20Speaker 2: and downs this year, but they're not going to be
- 5:22Speaker 2: scared to fight back right out of the gate. And
- 5:25Speaker 2: that was fun because opening day half the team probably
- 5:28Speaker 2: was their first real opening day, so to see them,
- 5:31Speaker 2: you know, hey, they you know, then Scorny runs early
- 5:33Speaker 2: and then we're able to come back and do that.
- 5:35Speaker 2: All in all, it was that, you know, when you
- 5:37Speaker 2: win their first game, that's great, but when you're able
- 5:39Speaker 2: to you know, turning around after giving up six and
- 5:42Speaker 2: then coming back and doing that, that's a a huge
- 5:44Speaker 2: first win and it can create some energy which will
- 5:47Speaker 2: be fun. But they're gonna have some ups and downs.
- 5:49Speaker 2: But that was a fun, fun first game.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And we've seen, you know what, this team is young.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You know, no one expects them really to do a ton,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but for a young team to win a game like that,
- 6:00Speaker 1: that's the opener. That's a big boost, you know, in
- 6:03Speaker 1: terms of letting them know who they really are or
- 6:06Speaker 1: what they can do.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 3: I just think it's it's a lot more fun press
- 6:11Speaker 3: conference for Ali, right, I mean I think it it
- 6:14Speaker 3: was going to be. It turned from you know, Alie
- 6:17Speaker 3: is this kind of like you know how things are
- 6:20Speaker 3: going to be to Alie tell us about the positives here, right?
- 6:25Speaker 3: I mean I think if you dive into it a
- 6:27Speaker 3: little bit, I think it does a lot for Swanson.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I know, he gave up the three runs, but man
- 6:34Speaker 3: to know that the team came back and fought back
- 6:37Speaker 3: and really picked him up. That's a really good feeling.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Roy Croft is the one that kind of ran into
- 6:41Speaker 3: some tough luck there with the ball not even leaving
- 6:43Speaker 3: the infield, and then Jojo O'Brien and Stanik. I think
- 6:47Speaker 3: that's really a good sign at the back end when
- 6:50Speaker 3: the team got the lead back. You know, Lance says
- 6:54Speaker 3: right back, when the bullpen says, no, we got this lead,
- 6:59Speaker 3: now we're holding. It looks like three innings. Really really
- 7:03Speaker 3: good job by those guys, but man, what a what
- 7:07Speaker 3: an inning? Just compounding a bad after about I think
- 7:10Speaker 3: seven or eight straight hits, you know, and against some
- 7:13Speaker 3: good relievers, right, That's kind of what I wanted to
- 7:15Speaker 3: look up here. I think, you know, they did it
- 7:17Speaker 3: against Seymour, who I was with him in Triple A
- 7:19Speaker 3: and when he came up and pitched last year, he
- 7:21Speaker 3: was nasty. He's a funky lefty. He didn't get an out.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Clevenger had a sub two and a half e RA
- 7:28Speaker 3: last year. He was nasty, he got one out, and
- 7:30Speaker 3: Griffin Jack's nasty. I mean they did it against three
- 7:34Speaker 3: of their better arms in that bullpen. So I think
- 7:37Speaker 3: that's a that's a pretty cool sign for the young
- 7:40Speaker 3: team to fight back and be able to do that,
- 7:41Speaker 3: and who knows if it creates moming them to win
- 7:43Speaker 3: the series or not. But like Lann said, you can't
- 7:46Speaker 3: win one hundred and sixty two if you don't win
- 7:47Speaker 3: the first one.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And that's what we expect one hundred and sixty two,
- 7:52Speaker 1: I know, So no one has more pressure on in
- 7:55Speaker 1: my opinion, then JJ Weather, like a lot of guys,
- 7:58Speaker 1: are getting, you know, opportunity these but the expectations are
- 8:02Speaker 1: through the roof for JJ Weatherhold, who's a really mature kid.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I've talked to him, and what does he do in
- 8:08Speaker 1: his very first game, his first game as a big leaguer,
- 8:11Speaker 1: first hit as a big leaguer happens to be a
- 8:14Speaker 1: homer on an O two pitch. His mom said she
- 8:16Speaker 1: thought he was going to strike out. I interviewed her
- 8:19Speaker 1: in game, and he takes an outside fastball and crushes it.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So for a guy like that who's getting his first
- 8:26Speaker 1: exposure to Major League baseball, the crowds you know that
- 8:30Speaker 1: you see in Big League Baseball opening day in Saint Louis,
- 8:33Speaker 1: doesn't that say some about the kid lands that he's
- 8:36Speaker 1: able to deliver, you know when everyone's looking at him.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, definitely but you look at the pitch
- 8:42Speaker 2: he hit Man that was about three or four inches
- 8:45Speaker 2: off the play out in the way and to go
- 8:47Speaker 2: Burman Center. I think the way he hit the home
- 8:50Speaker 2: run tells me something that I liked more than just
- 8:53Speaker 2: hitting the home run to go to center as a
- 8:56Speaker 2: young kid at Bush Stadium, which is one of the
- 9:00Speaker 2: art places to go to center at on a ball
- 9:03Speaker 2: off the plate away, I'm like, Okay, so this guy's
- 9:06Speaker 2: not afraid to cover the ball away and do things
- 9:08Speaker 2: like that. And then he's able to hit the sacifly
- 9:10Speaker 2: later against a lefty, so he's got an idea what
- 9:13Speaker 2: he's trying to do. He's able to cover tough pitches.
- 9:16Speaker 2: He's able to cover off the plate and do stuff.
- 9:18Speaker 2: It's not like he has to be in one area.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I mean, it's a first game, but it doesn't seem
- 9:23Speaker 2: to be that he has to be in one area
- 9:25Speaker 2: to do damage, especially if you can do damage dead
- 9:29Speaker 2: center off the plate away. So yeah, it's going to
- 9:31Speaker 2: be a fun uh you know energy that he's going
- 9:34Speaker 2: to bring. And then you you know, you you partner
- 9:37Speaker 2: that with Mason up the middle, they've got a really
- 9:39Speaker 2: fun group. And then even Victor with what he can
- 9:43Speaker 2: do with his speed and all that, and he's gonna
- 9:45Speaker 2: get on base and and do all that stuff. They're
- 9:47Speaker 2: they're creating a fun environment for young kids that are
- 9:51Speaker 2: very talented and very athletic to do a lot of things.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And when he said, you know, it's your first game,
- 9:57Speaker 2: but he is mature. He did go to college, he
- 10:00Speaker 2: did go through the grind of you know, a big
- 10:03Speaker 2: time school in college, and then went through the minor
- 10:05Speaker 2: leagues last year. He knows what he's you know, capable of,
- 10:08Speaker 2: but he knows how to cover things that you know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: maybe it takes up longer guys to you know, figure out,
- 10:14Speaker 2: but right out of the gate, he looks like he
- 10:17Speaker 2: belongs and now you mess him with those other guys,
- 10:20Speaker 2: there's gonna be a youthful energy that is going to
- 10:22Speaker 2: be fun to watch, especially if they you know, do
- 10:25Speaker 2: do the comebacks and stuff like that. But it's you know,
- 10:28Speaker 2: right out of the gate, that's a that's a great
- 10:30Speaker 2: first day.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Fun fact about JJ Kyle. He also homeward in his
- 10:34Speaker 1: very first college game too. So this guy seems like
- 10:38Speaker 1: he will be worth the price of admission. There's gonna
- 10:42Speaker 1: be some ups and downs, like like Lance said, but
- 10:45Speaker 1: I think JJ is going to be the real deal
- 10:47Speaker 1: that fans are gonna want to show up and watch
- 10:49Speaker 1: him do his thing.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you know, I don't like to put
- 10:54Speaker 3: the weight of a franchise on people, but when you
- 10:57Speaker 3: have a couple of years of high draft picks, and
- 11:00Speaker 3: you have a high draft pick like JJ was, if
- 11:04Speaker 3: they don't pan out, it kind of stinks. I mean,
- 11:07Speaker 3: it kind of hurts how you play in the franchise
- 11:10Speaker 3: because you drafted JJ Weatherhole with a purpose and for
- 11:13Speaker 3: a reason to do what he's doing. So those are
- 11:16Speaker 3: the kind of draft picks that either you know, really
- 11:19Speaker 3: help the turnaround or delay the turnaround. So, once again,
- 11:23Speaker 3: not to put pressure on the kid, because everybody's human,
- 11:25Speaker 3: but I think this is who the look of one
- 11:29Speaker 3: game is, who the Cardinals are really hoping they get, right.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I don't know, you probably didn't have this on the
- 11:34Speaker 3: list of things to talk about, but I kind of
- 11:36Speaker 3: would be interested to see what roster construction, what lineup
- 11:40Speaker 3: construction looks like. If you put Mason at one and
- 11:43Speaker 3: JJ at two, and then that allows Herrera to shift
- 11:47Speaker 3: to three, that allows Burlsen to shift to four, and
- 11:51Speaker 3: probably takes a little bit of pressure off JJ, and
- 11:53Speaker 3: I think JJ with a little extra thump than Mason.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Mason's a guy that's going to get on base at
- 11:58Speaker 3: a decent clip. And then I think you have a
- 12:01Speaker 3: chance to be up to nothing instead of one nothing. Look,
- 12:04Speaker 3: having Schobert leadoff for the Phillies works out great, a
- 12:07Speaker 3: lot of leadoff homers and you know, leading off innings.
- 12:10Speaker 3: But you know, I think it probably adds a little
- 12:13Speaker 3: bit to it with Mason being in front of him.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And then not that Mason can't handle being the four hitter.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I think he can as long as his mindsets right.
- 12:20Speaker 3: But he's not your stereotypical four hitter. You know, you
- 12:23Speaker 3: want as many guys in front of Herrera and Burlson
- 12:25Speaker 3: to be on base as possible.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I like that. I'm with you on that.
- 12:30Speaker 1: We're gonna talk some pitching after a quick break. The
- 12:32Speaker 1: you're watching Cardinal Territory on the Foul Territory Network.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Hey, have you hit the age where everything feels a
- 12:39Speaker 4: little bit more difficult? The Jim Yes, but everything like
- 12:43Speaker 4: energy crashes in the afternoon.
- 12:47Speaker 5: You know, you might have been reading about low t
- 12:50Speaker 5: and you see your doctor about it, and they want
- 12:52Speaker 5: to give you basically shots every week for the rest
- 12:55Speaker 5: of your life. Oh cool, that sounds fun. And then
- 12:58Speaker 5: you dig deeper and you realize you're signing up for
- 13:00Speaker 5: and it's three grand a year to shut down in
- 13:02Speaker 5: your body's natural production forever.
- 13:04Speaker 2: That is brutal.

- 13:11Speaker 4: focus without shutting your body down. No synthetics, no needles,

- 13:59Speaker 4: That's the deal that everybody's looking for. But especially early
- 14:03Speaker 4: in the season up here in the Northeast, you kind
- 14:05Speaker 4: of want to go to a day game where you're
- 14:07Speaker 4: still going to be in the sun. It might shift
- 14:09Speaker 4: during the summer, but hey, you know what, Seek will
- 14:11Speaker 4: let you know exactly where you're sitting and if it's

- 14:34Speaker 5: the app and have the code automatically added to your
- 14:36Speaker 5: account so you can use it later.
- 14:40Speaker 1: All right, fellas, we talked about a bunch of things
- 14:42Speaker 1: from the Cardinals opening day when we touched on Libby,
- 14:46Speaker 1: So you talk about pressure too. Libby wants that pressure.
- 14:49Speaker 1: He said on this podcast in the off season he
- 14:52Speaker 1: wanted to be the opening day starter. There all eyes
- 14:55Speaker 1: on you when you're the front of the rotation guy,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and that's Libby. I think he delivered, right. I mean,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you look at at his line. Five innings, one earned,
- 15:04Speaker 1: just a couple of k's. I'm sure he wanted to
- 15:06Speaker 1: see some more strikeouts, but uh, he pitched around a
- 15:10Speaker 1: lot of things. And and uh, at Lance, you touched
- 15:12Speaker 1: on it. That's your first start of the season where
- 15:15Speaker 1: you're just kind of putting a boat in the water.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yeah, especially first opening day, right, everything that happened, I
- 15:23Speaker 2: think he was able to navigate it and do the
- 15:25Speaker 2: things that you need to do. It's very hard to
- 15:28Speaker 2: be like perfect your first came out. There's different intensities,
- 15:32Speaker 2: there's different things you have to deal with, whether it's
- 15:36Speaker 2: scheduling and stuff like that. It's not as smooth day
- 15:40Speaker 2: and nothing really usually goes on time. So when you
- 15:42Speaker 2: walk out of it with you know, five innings of
- 15:45Speaker 2: one run baseball, if you say all right, cool, and
- 15:47Speaker 2: then you can kind of be like all right, I
- 15:48Speaker 2: can take a deep breath and then I can get
- 15:50Speaker 2: ready for my next one. So when you look back
- 15:52Speaker 2: and say, all right, five innings, one run only what two?
- 15:56Speaker 2: K's okay? Hey you it was it was not you know,
- 16:00Speaker 2: didn't get to six and wouldn't quality. But when you're
- 16:02Speaker 2: an opening day and your first opening day start as
- 16:05Speaker 2: a fig leaguer, you look up and you're like, all right,
- 16:08Speaker 2: I got through it. Now I can I can kind
- 16:10Speaker 2: of just reset and then try to, you know, just
- 16:12Speaker 2: build off of that as the season comes on. And
- 16:15Speaker 2: there's nothing worse than giving up a bunch your first
- 16:17Speaker 2: game of the year because then it's like you go
- 16:19Speaker 2: into scramble mode. So to come out of it very
- 16:21Speaker 2: solid start, you know a lot of different emotions that
- 16:25Speaker 2: are hard to explain. He was able to weather all
- 16:28Speaker 2: that with you know, the hits and stuff like that.
- 16:31Speaker 2: So I you know, i'd give him a you know,
- 16:32Speaker 2: very solid first opening day and you know, a good
- 16:35Speaker 2: one to build off for the season.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Count for you first start of the season is that
- 16:40Speaker 1: like sort of uncharted territory you didn't really know what
- 16:44Speaker 1: to expect.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know that i'd say that.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I mean, I think first opening day probably you know,
- 16:53Speaker 3: like Lance said, you know, you got a lot of
- 16:54Speaker 3: different a lot of different timing mechanisms going on, and
- 16:57Speaker 3: it's it's just like Lance said, it's not a smooth
- 17:00Speaker 3: day really for position players and certain things. Okay, fine,
- 17:04Speaker 3: but you know, for a starter, you're really almost looking
- 17:08Speaker 3: at a guaranteed non rain rain delay. I mean, you're
- 17:13Speaker 3: gonna you're just guessing at what time the timing of
- 17:16Speaker 3: everything's gonna be. So yeah, I thought Libby through the
- 17:19Speaker 3: ball well, you know, just kind of looking where he
- 17:22Speaker 3: was at. He was at seventy eight pitches through five
- 17:24Speaker 3: against a raised lineup that historically is just really they're scrappy.
- 17:29Speaker 3: They're a good bunch. They've got a lot of really
- 17:31Speaker 3: good hitters in this lineup. Had he not been facing
- 17:35Speaker 3: three out of four rities coming up in the sixth inning,
- 17:38Speaker 3: he clearly goes back out, I would guess, but a
- 17:40Speaker 3: one run ball game, you know, decision to go to
- 17:43Speaker 3: the bullpen there with the off day and let your
- 17:45Speaker 3: guys do it. And that decision didn't work out. But Libby, Yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 3: I like this stuff. Strikeouts. You know, you're talking to
- 17:54Speaker 3: a guy that was never a big strikeout guy. So
- 17:56Speaker 3: I hear you on the strikeouts. Everybody wants swing and miss,
- 17:58Speaker 3: but shoot navigating the lineup with his stuff and getting
- 18:01Speaker 3: through five innies in one run. You know, we'll take
- 18:03Speaker 3: thirty two more of those. You know, book it right now.
- 18:07Speaker 3: So happy for Libby, good first opening day start, and
- 18:11Speaker 3: definitely want to keep things rolling. So it's pretty good.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah, see seeing something good to build off for, That's
- 18:17Speaker 1: what it was for Libby young team. One of the
- 18:20Speaker 1: young guys really showed up yesterday, Nathan Church and three hits,
- 18:26Speaker 1: climbed the wall to rob a home run. This is
- 18:30Speaker 1: a guy who's like perennially the Cardinals' best defensive outfielder
- 18:36Speaker 1: in the minor leagues, and he hits a little. Now
- 18:39Speaker 1: he's getting a chance, I mean, gets the start. What
- 18:42Speaker 1: do you think they might have lance with Church?
- 18:46Speaker 2: I think he brings something a little different than I
- 18:48Speaker 2: think anyone wants. Right, It's like everybody wants these out
- 18:52Speaker 2: corner outfielders to hit home runs and this and that.
- 18:54Speaker 2: He's a contact guy, he's going to know the strike zone,
- 18:56Speaker 2: he's going to play good defense, and when you have
- 18:59Speaker 2: guys like that in your lineup, it really pisses off
- 19:03Speaker 2: as starting pitcher. So I think he's a guy that
- 19:06Speaker 2: could be really good in the big leagues and be
- 19:09Speaker 2: a really quality player, especially with his defensive prowless. But
- 19:13Speaker 2: he's going to make you work. He's going to get
- 19:15Speaker 2: his hits, he's gonna you know, he's going to do
- 19:17Speaker 2: some things, and he's kind of always done that, but
- 19:19Speaker 2: he just doesn't have like okay, he doesn't or that
- 19:23Speaker 2: we don't project him as a thirty home run outfielder,
- 19:25Speaker 2: but it's like, hey, who cares, Like if this guy's
- 19:28Speaker 2: going to hit me too eighty, played good defense and
- 19:30Speaker 2: then hit me fifteen, that's a quality baseball player that's
- 19:33Speaker 2: going to help you win games. So I think they
- 19:36Speaker 2: found a guy that's a quality baseball player that's going
- 19:39Speaker 2: to help you win games. And I mean there's for me,
- 19:42Speaker 2: there's similarities on the coaching staff with a guy like
- 19:45Speaker 2: John Jay. That's who John Jay was. John Jay was
- 19:47Speaker 2: never going to hit you twenty five home runs. But
- 19:49Speaker 2: John Jay was a winning baseball player and he doesn't
- 19:51Speaker 2: did winning things, So you know, I'm not going to
- 19:55Speaker 2: put that comparison on him right away. But that's a
- 19:57Speaker 2: good guy to you know, kind of model your game
- 19:59Speaker 2: after Becau For a lot of time, a long time,
- 20:02Speaker 2: and he's still you know, in the game doing a
- 20:03Speaker 2: lot of great things. So if you get a guy
- 20:05Speaker 2: like if he turns into a John j type player,
- 20:07Speaker 2: you got a really good guy there. And I think
- 20:09Speaker 2: that there's upside to even more that you you know,
- 20:12Speaker 2: that might come as he goes and gets a chance
- 20:14Speaker 2: to prove that he's a big league player. More the
- 20:17Speaker 2: more timing, guess, especially since Large is going to be
- 20:19Speaker 2: out for at least sixty days, he can.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Do a lot of little things like he has to
- 20:24Speaker 1: speed and this makes this card in the lineup, I
- 20:26Speaker 1: guess for pictures, but for everyone kind of a pain
- 20:29Speaker 1: because they have a bunch of guys who could run
- 20:32Speaker 1: and uh that could cause problems.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Kyle, Well, yeah, I mean I think this is what
- 20:38Speaker 3: about baseball to me, and how different teams do it
- 20:41Speaker 3: makes it so fascinating, right, Like, Okay, you can put
- 20:44Speaker 3: an you can put together a defensive outfield, because that's
- 20:47Speaker 3: kind of what it is by having Church and Scott,
- 20:50Speaker 3: you know, doing center and left and then you have
- 20:53Speaker 3: a second basement who's gonna have more thump than your
- 20:55Speaker 3: average second basement, right, So it really kind of makes
- 20:58Speaker 3: up for some of the power issues in other areas.
- 21:01Speaker 3: So I looked at JJK to kind of take some
- 21:03Speaker 3: of that stress off of not having a corner outfield
- 21:06Speaker 3: with thump, And I think that's, like I said, that's
- 21:09Speaker 3: the beauty of baseball. You spread your slug out around
- 21:11Speaker 3: the field. It allows you to have defense, and slug
- 21:14Speaker 3: at second base allows you to prioritize defense in a
- 21:16Speaker 3: bigger outfield, you know, playing in some different outfields that
- 21:21Speaker 3: have some you know, like Pittsburgh has a bigger left
- 21:23Speaker 3: center it it really offers some flexibility there.
- 21:27Speaker 2: And I think, you know.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I think it's good for a pitching staff. I mean
- 21:31Speaker 3: I'm a little biased here, but I love the idea
- 21:34Speaker 3: of having a couple guys that run it down and
- 21:36Speaker 3: take away doubles because we can look at that too.
- 21:40Speaker 3: How many doubles is he going to take away? Which
- 21:43Speaker 3: is is it more beneficial to take away a double
- 21:45Speaker 3: than hit a double? I don't know, but to me,
- 21:47Speaker 3: that evens out pretty pretty good. So if we can
- 21:49Speaker 3: take away six extra doubles, shoot, that's like going from
- 21:52Speaker 3: a twenty to a twenty six double guy at the plate.
- 21:54Speaker 3: So I think it's gonna work out for him, and
- 21:57Speaker 3: I like what he's bringing to the table.
- 22:02Speaker 1: A Burley's home run. Earlier cards don't have a lot
- 22:04Speaker 1: of pop. Now, Burley in that sixth inning four hundred
- 22:09Speaker 1: and thirty two foot homer, he knew it was a blast.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Everyone knew it was a blast. He did pimp it
- 22:16Speaker 1: just a little bit, but you know, after that kind
- 22:18Speaker 1: of ending, I think he deserves to do that. But
- 22:22Speaker 1: this is a guy who you know, hit for average
- 22:24Speaker 1: last year, has a pretty good sense of the strike zone.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But you guys always talk about don't try to be
- 22:30Speaker 1: a home run hitter at bull Stadium because it will
- 22:32Speaker 1: cost you. Can this guy be a twenty five maybe
- 22:36Speaker 1: thirty home run guide.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Lance, Yeah, he can. He has that ability. Just get
- 22:42Speaker 2: most of them on the road. That's going to help too. Right,
- 22:46Speaker 2: Here's the thing about Burley. We've talked about him quite
- 22:48Speaker 2: a bit. Burley's baseball player. He's going to do what
- 22:52Speaker 2: he has to do to get a hit to He
- 22:54Speaker 2: knows the time when it's time to go for one.
- 22:57Speaker 2: If you told Burley, hey, I want you to hit
- 22:58Speaker 2: twenty five, he could hit you twenty five, but he
- 23:01Speaker 2: might hit two thirty and he doesn't like that. He
- 23:03Speaker 2: wants to be on base. He wants to be a
- 23:05Speaker 2: good ballplayer to help the team win. That's what people need.
- 23:09Speaker 2: There are there are losing baseball players at twenty five
- 23:12Speaker 2: thirty home runs. I promise you that I don't care.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'm gonna I've played with them and they and it
- 23:18Speaker 2: is not fun. Don't hit me, don't hit me two
- 23:21Speaker 2: hundred with twenty five, and that's not going to work
- 23:24Speaker 2: for me. If you can hit two fifty, I mean
- 23:26Speaker 2: Burley hits what two eighty five and hits twenty, that's
- 23:30Speaker 2: going to go to If it stays at two eighty five,
- 23:32Speaker 2: it's going to go to twenty five, just by getting
- 23:34Speaker 2: at bats and getting used to pitchers and knowing when
- 23:36Speaker 2: your time is to do it, and just getting stronger.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And he called it Dad's strength in spring training. Like
- 23:43Speaker 2: that stuff matters, and it happens like you just learned
- 23:46Speaker 2: to clip it a little bit here when you need to.
- 23:49Speaker 2: You get a little bit more idea what they're trying
- 23:50Speaker 2: to do too. So yes, if Burley you look up
- 23:52Speaker 2: the end of year and he's two seventy five with
- 23:55Speaker 2: twenty five, not shocked at all, not shocked at all.
- 23:58Speaker 2: But if he's two ninety with twenty he's going to
- 24:01Speaker 2: hit you doubles and doubles, drive in runs, and do
- 24:04Speaker 2: things too. And that's that whole lineup. If that whole
- 24:07Speaker 2: lineup goes fifteen to twenty at two fifty plus and
- 24:11Speaker 2: hits their doubles, there are a pain in the butt team.
- 24:14Speaker 2: And you know what team is very similar to that,
- 24:16Speaker 2: The Milwaukee Brewers that just annoy everyone every year in and
- 24:20Speaker 2: year out. And that's what they're building. I don't know
- 24:22Speaker 2: if people have noticed that, but hey, everyone hit over
- 24:25Speaker 2: two sixty, everyone hit around fifteen to twenty home runs.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Still some bases played good defense. Hey we're right in
- 24:31Speaker 2: the middle of this thing. We're gonna be a problem
- 24:32Speaker 2: for people. That's what they're building and you saw it
- 24:36Speaker 2: already and it's gonna be fun. What do you think
- 24:39Speaker 2: about Burley Kyle?
- 24:41Speaker 3: I love Burley. I think we Lance and I probably
- 24:45Speaker 3: couldn't say enough good things about Alec Burlson. From the
- 24:49Speaker 3: first couple weeks of spring training to the first couple
- 24:52Speaker 3: of dinners that we went to in twenty twenty four.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Easy to see that this guy was a winning player.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Easy to see that he works hard and ha the
- 25:00Speaker 3: tools to be a great player, and I think as
- 25:05Speaker 3: he gets more and more comfortable, which I know that
- 25:07Speaker 3: sounds crazy to think, like why would Alec Burlson not
- 25:09Speaker 3: be comfortable yet? But there's certain guys that don't necessarily
- 25:15Speaker 3: have that comfort level until they believe that the team
- 25:19Speaker 3: is fully on board with them being the guy. Right, Like,
- 25:22Speaker 3: was Burlison the first base guy last year? Nope, Wilson
- 25:27Speaker 3: Contraras was all right, So Burley was still finding ways
- 25:30Speaker 3: to get into the lineup. When hein Bloom, I'm not
- 25:33Speaker 3: saying he said this to Alec Burlson, but when hein
- 25:34Speaker 3: Bloom comes up and says, hey, Alec, we just traded
- 25:37Speaker 3: Wilson Contraras. Guess who's our first baseman for one hundred
- 25:40Speaker 3: and fifty games. You go to a buddy that's a
- 25:43Speaker 3: big deal, that's a big nod, a nod of confidence,
- 25:47Speaker 3: and a guy like Alec person who is a confident player.
- 25:49Speaker 3: I think that does wonders for him. Put him in
- 25:52Speaker 3: the three hole, put him in the four hole, and
- 25:54Speaker 3: say hey, go hit be you. If you see it's
- 25:57Speaker 3: the time to hit a homer, go hit a homer.
- 25:58Speaker 3: If you see it's time to take your hit, go
- 26:01Speaker 3: take your hit.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I think.
- 26:03Speaker 3: I think he's a guy that the Cardinals fans already love.
- 26:06Speaker 3: And you're gonna tell that that type of a baseball
- 26:09Speaker 3: player is going to play really well in Bush Stadium
- 26:12Speaker 3: and wherever they got.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Job, job well done, and uh, that's gonna do it
- 26:17Speaker 1: for this addition of Cardinal territory. We'll see you next
- 26:20Speaker 1: time for the next episode, and hopefully that one won't suck.
