- 0:12Hello friends, it's shown here. It is Thursday, it's the 11th of
- 0:17April and I didn't realise this, but today is actually Cheese
- 0:22fondue day. God bless Switzerland.
- 0:26Back in the 1930s they declared that cheese fondue shall be
- 0:30their national dish. And today, today is the day we
- 0:33celebrated. Oht man, I don't know if if you,
- 0:36like me, grew up watching cartoons on TV but there was
- 0:39this little cartoon called Heidi about, you know, little girl
- 0:43growing up in the Swiss Alps and she used to have cheese fondue
- 0:47and it was pretty yummy basic animation.
- 0:50So you just have a hand dipping big hunks of bread into this
- 0:53giant yellow tub and it would come out covered in this
- 0:56dripping cheese. And as a kid who had a cheese
- 0:59addiction, Oh my golly gosh that that was like the epitome of
- 1:03delish. And so as a grown up there are
- 1:07few things in the world more awesome than a cheese fondue.
- 1:10And I've just discovered a few weeks ago that if you replace
- 1:13the white wine with cream it is closer to that that incredible
- 1:18goofy looking cheese that I saw in the cartoon growing up.
- 1:22Oh man that sounds like a good plan for dinner.
- 1:25I'm sorry for all of your heart conditions and your cardiologist
- 1:29bills because it's probably not that great for us to do too
- 1:32often. But Yum oh cheese fondue.
- 1:35Today is the day. So happy Cheese Fondue day
- 1:38today. May you have excellent
- 1:40cardiovascular health and enjoy some delicious treats too, but
- 1:46that is got nothing to do with the fact of why you tapped on
- 1:49play. We are going to read the next
- 1:51chapter of the story. Now that David is King of
- 1:54Israel, we are seeing him establish his reign not just
- 1:59under his own steam, but trying to locate God in the centre of
- 2:04everything he does as king over God's people.
- 2:08And that continues today as God creates a covenant with David.
- 2:14So let's read about it together, shall we?
- 2:16In Second Samuel Chapter 7, when King David was settled in
- 2:31his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all the
- 2:34surrounding enemies, the King's summoned Nathan the Prophet.
- 2:38Look, David said. I am living in a beautiful cedar
- 2:42palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent.
- 2:47Nathan replied to the King. Go ahead and do whatever you
- 2:50have in mind, for the Lord is with you.
- 2:54But that same night the Lord said to Nathan, go and tell my
- 2:59servant David. This is what the Lord has
- 3:02declared. Are you the one to build a house
- 3:05for me to live in? I have never lived in a house.
- 3:09From the day I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until
- 3:12this very day, I have always moved from one place to another,
- 3:17where the tent and a Tabernacle as my dwelling.
- 3:20Yet no matter where I have gone with the Israelites, I have
- 3:24never once complained to Israel's tribal leaders, the
- 3:27shepherds of my people, Israel. I have never asked them, why
- 3:31haven't you built me a beautiful cedar house?
- 3:35Now go and say to my servant David, this is what the Lord of
- 3:39Heaven's armies has declared. I took you from tending sheep in
- 3:44the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people,
- 3:48Israel. I have been with you wherever
- 3:50you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies
- 3:54before your eyes. Now I will make your name as
- 3:58famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth, and I will
- 4:04provide a homeland for my people, Israel, planting them in
- 4:08a secure place where they will never be disturbed.
- 4:12Evil nations won't oppress them as they've done in the past.
- 4:16Starting from the time I appointed judges to rule my
- 4:19people, Israel and I will give you rest from all your enemies.
- 4:25Furthermore, the Lord declares that he will make a house for
- 4:29you, a dynasty of kings. For when you die and are buried
- 4:35with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your
- 4:38descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his Kingdom
- 4:43strong. He is the one who will build a
- 4:46house, a temple for my name, and I will secure his royal throne
- 4:52forever. I will be his father, and he
- 4:55will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and
- 5:00discipline him with the rod, like any father would do.
- 5:03But my favour will not be taken from him as I took it from Saul,
- 5:08whom I removed from your sight. Your house and your Kingdom will
- 5:13continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure
- 5:18forever. So Nathan went back to David and
- 5:23told him everything the Lord had said in this vision.
- 5:26Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed, Who
- 5:32am I, oh sovereign Lord? And what is my family that you
- 5:36have brought me this far? And now, Sovereign Lord, in
- 5:40addition to everything else you speak of, giving your servant A
- 5:44lasting dynasty. Do you deal with everyone this
- 5:48way? All Sovereign Lord, What more
- 5:51can I say to you? You know what your servant is
- 5:54really like, Sovereign Lord, Because of your promise and
- 5:58according to your will, you have done all these great things and
- 6:02have made them known to your servant.
- 6:05Oh great you are ohf Sovereign Lord.
- 6:09There is no one like you. We have never ever heard of
- 6:13another God like you. What other nation on earth is
- 6:16like your people? Israel.
- 6:18What other nation, oh God, have you redeemed from slavery to be
- 6:22your own people? You made a great name for
- 6:25yourself when you redeemed your people from Egypt.
- 6:28You performed awesome miracles and drove out the other nations
- 6:32and gods that stood in their way.
- 6:34You made Israel your very own people forever, and you, oh
- 6:39Lord, became their God, and now all, Lord God, I am your
- 6:45servant. Do as you have promised
- 6:48concerning me and my family. Confirm it as a promise that
- 6:52will last forever. And may your name be honoured
- 6:55for ever, so that everyone will say, the Lord of heaven's armies
- 7:00is God over Israel. And may the House of your
- 7:04servant David continue before you forever, all Lord of
- 7:09heaven's armies, God of Israel. I have been bold enough to pray
- 7:14this prayer to you, because you have revealed all this to your
- 7:17servant, saying, I will build a house for you, a dynasty of
- 7:23kings. For you are God of Sovereign
- 7:27Lord, your words are truth, and you have promised these good
- 7:32things to your servant. And now may it please you to
- 7:36bless the House of your servant, so that it may continue forever
- 7:40before you. For you have spoken.
- 7:43And when you grant a blessing to your servant, our sovereign
- 7:47Lord, it is an eternal blessing. OHP Lord, it's so wonderful to
- 8:02read this prayer. David, Praise as though he's won
- 8:05the jackpot. He cannot believe your goodness
- 8:08and faithfulness and kindness to him.
- 8:11And here we are all this time later, and we just cannot
- 8:17believe your goodness to us. We have all won the eternal
- 8:22jackpot. We are loved.
- 8:24We are redeemed. We are sanctified day after day,
- 8:28being made wholly, wholly enough to stand in your presence.
- 8:32Lord, what an incredible, incredible deal you offer us
- 8:38What an incredibly lucky people we are to have a God like you.
- 8:44A God like no other. Oh yes, so grateful.
- 8:49And our hearts swelling with gratitude.
- 8:53Just fall down and worship before you our gracious,
- 8:58generous, kind, and loving God. We worship you and we praise
- 9:05you, And we can do all of this through the name of Jesus.
- 9:10Ah man.
