Latest / Stuff Keeps Happening / LA Fights Back

- 0:00Hello. I combined a tome with Wirt's leg. But
- 0:04stuff still happened. So what's up? It's getting
- 0:08very fashy outside. It's been fashy. It's getting
- 0:11fashier. Let's talk about Los Angeles. Starting
- 0:14on Friday and over the weekend, there have been
- 0:16clashes between federal law enforcement and protesters
- 0:19in LA as ICE has been escalating their deportation
- 0:22efforts in the city. Now, if you're not familiar
- 0:24with LA, there's a few Latino people there. There's
- 0:28a handful of them. At least one or two I haven't
- 0:31personally counted. So ICE shows up in downtown
- 0:33LA and starts to detain people at storefronts
- 0:35while they're working. You know, contributing?
- 0:38Such hardened criminals. About 200 people showed
- 0:41up to protest these ICE operations, try to block
- 0:44them, just impede their work. Because no one
- 0:47wants them there. This is not what the city voted
- 0:49for, it's not what the state voted for, it's
- 0:52not what the people there want. but it's happening
- 0:55to them because just general aggression from
- 0:57the right. Trump has made California his punching
- 0:59bag, like despite the quality of life in California
- 1:02being pretty good comparatively, he's made it
- 1:05out to be this hellhole that's just complete
- 1:09anarchy. And for whatever reason, people on the
- 1:12right eat it up. And so they're targeting primarily
- 1:14places that they've been told have fallen, right?
- 1:18So I want to be clear, before I dig into the
- 1:20timeline of what happened in LA, I want to just
- 1:22say up front, LA is fine. Seattle is fine. Chicago
- 1:27is fine. These places have not been destroyed.
- 1:31I said 200 people showed up. That's 200 people.
- 1:34LA has millions of people living there. It was
- 1:37like a few blocks. Like if you were in the city,
- 1:40there was virtually no chance that you'd even
- 1:43stumble upon it. So don't let the media overplay
- 1:46the scale of all of this. It's important to note
- 1:50that. What the protesters did was courageous.
- 1:53But it didn't destroy the city. ICE ended up
- 1:55arresting 44 people, including the head of the
- 1:58United Service Workers Union for the region,
- 2:00which that's not a good look. The protesters
- 2:02were mostly around a detention facility and a
- 2:04federal building, and that's more or less where
- 2:07it went on for the night. On Saturday, the raids
- 2:09continued, but they moved over into the nearby
- 2:11town of Paramount, which is over 80 % Latina.
- 2:14They started going after day laborers at a Home
- 2:16Depot, because again, those criminals ruining
- 2:20our country by... building things. As ICE showed
- 2:23up, the community started to push back. About
- 2:25400 people in total at peak showed up to push
- 2:28back against it. Things continued to escalate,
- 2:30protesters pushed back, ICE and law enforcement
- 2:32were using less lethal munitions, which is to
- 2:35say rubber bullets, which can still kill you.
- 2:37It came to a head on Saturday night when the
- 2:39president of the United States of America asserted
- 2:41that he was sending 2 ,000 troops from the National
- 2:44Guard into LA to quell the anarchy. 400 people.
- 2:51400 got to send in the National Guard on top
- 2:54of the FBI and ICE and local law enforcement
- 2:58to handle 400 people who are not in tactical
- 3:03gear. What a strong man. Notably, both the governor
- 3:07of California and the mayor of LA said, don't
- 3:10do that. That's a bad idea. There's no need that's
- 3:14not currently met by existing forces. I would
- 3:16say that there isn't a need to begin with. to
- 3:19have any of the forces. Not to sit out an opportunity
- 3:22to be a complete chud, Pete Hegseth, the Secretary
- 3:24of Defense, jumped in to say that if need be,
- 3:27he would deploy Marines against U .S. citizens.
- 3:31That's not how that works. That's not how that
- 3:33works. The White House put out a statement saying
- 3:35that the Commander in Chief would establish law
- 3:38and order, which is not the capacity that the
- 3:41president is acting in when he's executing the
- 3:44law, but, you know, what does that matter anymore?
- 3:46And before the night was over, Trump thanked
- 3:48the National Guard for solving the problem before
- 3:51the National Guard even actually arrived in LA.
- 3:54Mission accomplished. I'm recording this on Sunday,
- 3:57and as of right now, it's been relatively quiet.
- 4:00There's literally a livestream of the chaos in
- 4:03the city, and it's just a livestream of National
- 4:05Guard members standing around in a parking lot.
- 4:08looking around at nothing. At the same time,
- 4:10there's now pictures coming out of local community
- 4:11members cleaning up the mess of rubber bullets
- 4:14and gas canisters left behind by the cops. Monday.
- 4:18Boom. Jump scare. It's the next day. I did not
- 4:22sleep well last night, so my voice and vibe will
- 4:24be different. I wanted to include a bit of an
- 4:26update. There were more protests on Sunday night
- 4:29that grew to a much larger scale. A large crowd
- 4:33of people took to the streets to show solidarity
- 4:35with their community against the Fed. It was
- 4:38largely peaceful. It was literally just a bunch
- 4:40of people walking in the streets, marching. There
- 4:42was scuffles, obviously, that's going to happen
- 4:44at any mass gathering like this. But yeah, not
- 4:48a war zone still. That said, there's also clips
- 4:51of police brutality that is going around. One
- 4:53clip shows LAPD on horses just trampling a dude
- 4:56repeatedly. And another shows an Australian news
- 5:00reporter reporting. and a cop just takes aim
- 5:03and shoots a rubber bullet directly at her on
- 5:06camera. They're creating these scenes in progressive
- 5:08places that did not want this to happen. They're
- 5:10specifically targeting these places because they've
- 5:13spent decades at this point convincing their
- 5:16base that America has fallen. They truly and
- 5:20honestly bill this as warfare and have convinced
- 5:23people that it is dangerous to go to cities because
- 5:26of violent immigrants. marauding the place. Obviously,
- 5:30to anyone who exists in actual reality, that's
- 5:33not happening. But they can't be like, uh, psych,
- 5:35now that we're in office, that's not actually
- 5:36a problem. They're trying to make good on the
- 5:39lies that they have spun, and the way they're
- 5:41doing that is targeting places that are okay
- 5:44with having these people there, and getting rid
- 5:46of them, and getting footage of tearing them
- 5:49out of buildings, so that they can play that
- 5:50footage for their base. Gotta satisfy the bloodlust.
- 5:55Hello, hello, hello. If you like what I do, Thank
- 5:58you for being here, first of all. Second of all,
- 6:00I've got a Patreon, I've got a merch store, I've
- 6:02got a Discord community, I've got a lot of other
- 6:04stuff. I stream on Twitch also. Anyway, links
- 6:08in the description if you want to support me
- 6:10by sharing or subscribing or what have you. All
- 6:13right, moving on. Moving on to policy. The mayor
- 6:15of Tulsa, Oklahoma has announced a plan to invest
- 6:18$100 million into the black community of the
- 6:21city in response to the 1920s Tulsa race massacre.
- 6:25Up front, the funds for the reparations are privately
- 6:27raised. They're not taxes. And also, the reparations
- 6:31are an investment. They're not giving people
- 6:33a check. But what is this? What's going on? Why
- 6:35are they doing this? The Tulsa Race Massacre
- 6:38is one of those stories that the U .S. really
- 6:40likes to bury. It really likes to not teach us
- 6:43when they're talking about racial history in
- 6:44the states. In the summer of 1921, white supremacists
- 6:47in Tulsa were deputized by the state and massacred
- 6:52an entire neighborhood of black people. Specifically,
- 6:55the neighborhood was referred to colloquially
- 6:57as Black Wall Street because of how much prosperity
- 7:00was happening there for Black folks. A violent
- 7:03mob of white supremacists killed hundreds of
- 7:05people, injured hundreds more, and razed 35 square
- 7:09blocks of neighborhood, leaving over 10 ,000
- 7:12people homeless. This is just a thing that happened.
- 7:16So obviously reparations didn't happen for a
- 7:18while, and about 20ish, 30ish years ago, there
- 7:21was an investigation into like the state's role
- 7:23in the massacre, and ultimately they suggested
- 7:26we should do reparations. And now the city has
- 7:28a black mayor for the first time, and he is pushing
- 7:31for that to actually happen. This is one of those
- 7:33stories that's just like the move bombings in
- 7:35Philadelphia, where the Philadelphia Police Department
- 7:38dropped multiple bombs from a helicopter onto
- 7:42residential buildings. The house blew up, people
- 7:44inside it died, and it started a fire that raged
- 7:47for over an hour while the police just let it.
- 7:49Dozens of homes were destroyed, people were made
- 7:51homeless, lives were lost, and we don't talk
- 7:54about that at all. But please, keep talking about
- 7:57Tiananmen Square, because the states have never
- 7:59done anything like that. Let's talk about the
- 8:01Trump and Musk fallout. We knew this was gonna
- 8:03happen. We knew this was gonna happen. We just
- 8:05didn't know when. After Musk left the White House
- 8:07after having been beside Trump for the first
- 8:10few months of his presidency, they had a bit
- 8:12of a beef. Both of them, very masculinely, went
- 8:15to their social media platforms and subtweeted
- 8:18each other for several hours. Musk said that
- 8:20Trump is in the Epstein files, which, like, didoy.
- 8:23and also said that Trump should be impeached,
- 8:25while Trump says that Musk lost his mind and
- 8:27is a drug addict. Which basically just means
- 8:30that Trump knew that Elon was on drugs, but let
- 8:32him just dismantle the government anyway, and
- 8:35Elon knew that Trump is a pedophile, but worked
- 8:37with him anyway. So that's... Well done, guys.
- 8:40The reactions from the right have been... interesting
- 8:43to follow. At first there was a lot of disbelief
- 8:46and confusion, and a lot of public pleading for
- 8:48them to kiss and make up. Then that went to there's
- 8:51no way this is real, they're both in on it somehow,
- 8:53like this is a ploy, it's a distraction of some
- 8:56kind, but it hasn't really stopped. It's only
- 8:59kind of solidified, and at this point right -wing
- 9:02figures, especially terminally online ones, are
- 9:04staking their claim as to more or less which
- 9:06side they're gonna fall on, Musk or Trump. And
- 9:08now Musk is talking about making a new political
- 9:10party, which... What? Where are you gonna put
- 9:14it? To the right of Trump? Anyway, it's all incredibly
- 9:17stupid and could have been avoided by just not
- 9:20having man -children elevated to the highest
- 9:24levels of our society? Because these men's, and
- 9:26I do not say this lightly, are nincompoops. Nincompoops!
- 9:30You probably remember Kilmara Brego -Garcia,
- 9:33the man who was mistakenly deported due to a,
- 9:35quote, administrative error. to the torture prison
- 9:39CICOT in El Salvador, that place that we're sending
- 9:42people without a trial. So there was the whole
- 9:44thing where the Trump administration accidentally
- 9:46deported a guy who wasn't supposed to be deported
- 9:49to a prison and then said that he could never
- 9:51come back. Notably, the prison is a place that
- 9:54claims no one will ever see the light of day
- 9:56once they enter there, sometimes referred to
- 9:58as a death camp. The United States government
- 10:00said that he was now out of their jurisdiction
- 10:02and there was nothing they could do to bring
- 10:04him back. The Supreme Court said, what the fuck,
- 10:06bring him back. to which the Trump administration
- 10:08said, nah, but now they're actually bringing
- 10:11him back. Why? To face charges as Attorney General
- 10:15Pam Bondi has now charged him with trafficking
- 10:18people across the border in a 10 -year -long
- 10:20operation. Suddenly this guy has a criminal case.
- 10:24This specific guy. Because oops. Now the announcement
- 10:27of these charges don't fill me with confidence
- 10:29that they're real because a prosecutor in the
- 10:32office in charge of actually carrying out this
- 10:34current case quit immediately. upon finding out
- 10:38about this. He had been working there for 15
- 10:40years and was a high -ranking prosecutor and
- 10:43just noked out specifically because of this.
- 10:46Quoting ABC News, Weird. Attorneys for Abrego
- 11:05Garcia said he's gonna fight this like hell.
- 11:06Best of luck. World stuff. Yeah, I don't know
- 11:12what that was. Let's talk about Ukraine. Ukraine
- 11:14pulled off a wild drone attack this past week
- 11:17that has been in planning for over a year and
- 11:19a half. The drone attack destroyed dozens of
- 11:22aircraft deep in Russia's territory in military
- 11:25installations. And when I say deep in Russia's
- 11:27territory, I mean like 2 ,500 miles from Ukraine.
- 11:31They did this by sneaking drones in in shipping
- 11:34containers essentially, and they had operatives
- 11:36actually out in Russia. preparing for all of
- 11:39this. All at once, these shipping containers
- 11:41were placed in the right locations. There was
- 11:43a hatch on the top that opened up and allowed
- 11:45for a drone to come out that was manually piloted
- 11:47over the military bases to take out the planes.
- 11:50There were no casualties on either side. That's
- 11:53fucking crazy. This is the biggest drone strike
- 11:56operation in the war so far and a major turning
- 11:59point. Like this military strategists are freaking
- 12:02out about this. I almost forgot that you can
- 12:05do like covert military operations without just
- 12:09annihilating civilians. Russia has since responded
- 12:11to the attack with more bombings and they claimed
- 12:13they're gonna get revenge despite also saying
- 12:15that it wasn't a big deal and that it was just
- 12:17that their planes caught fire. But we're gonna
- 12:20get revenge! South Korea has a new president.
- 12:23Lee Jae Myung has won the presidency in South
- 12:25Korea. He is a center left to leftish politician.
- 12:29He has previously likened himself to Bernie Sanders,
- 12:31but largely ran on a platform of pragmatism and
- 12:34just stability. Because if you recall, South
- 12:38Korea, their previous president, tried to enforce
- 12:41martial law, much to the chagrin of literally
- 12:43everyone. While he was in office, he was like,
- 12:46I'ma make, I'ma declare martial law. I'ma keep
- 12:49my power that way. To which his own party was
- 12:51like, bro, fucking what? Lawmakers in South Korea
- 12:55came together and very quickly said, no, no,
- 12:57no. And he became the first arrested and indicted
- 13:00president from South Korea. Imagine that. This
- 13:03new president is focusing on economic reform
- 13:06and trying to just reestablish any sense of faith
- 13:09in the government after that. He's also looking
- 13:11to take a new approach to foreign diplomacy given
- 13:13Washington DC's slipping position on the world
- 13:16stage. But let's go a little bit north and talk
- 13:18about the North Korea. Remember a few episodes
- 13:21ago, I talked about how North Korea went to go
- 13:23deploy a warship and it did not work. It capsized.
- 13:27Well, they fixed it. They done fixed it. Well
- 13:30done guys. Yeah, there's apparently they managed
- 13:33to pull it out of the water They used like literal
- 13:36ropes and barges to just like and then redeployed
- 13:39the ship This was originally reported by a North
- 13:41Korean state -run media, but it was it was confirmed
- 13:44by satellite imagery Congrats on the ship. Hopefully
- 13:47Kimmy J won't be too upset But I'm pretty sure
- 13:50he's still recovering from his emotions gaming
- 13:53the switch to launched It's a switch But again,
- 13:57despite some initial backlash about the pricing,
- 13:59it was exactly what you'd expect from a Nintendo
- 14:01console release. There was lines out the doors,
- 14:03it's sold out, people are expecting there to
- 14:05be shortages for quite some time. Now that it's
- 14:06in the hands of the people! They've been tearing
- 14:08it apart, looking more into it. We've found that
- 14:11the Joy -Cons apparently are the same technology
- 14:14as the Switch 1 Joy -Cons, and so they might
- 14:17get that drift issue. There's a massive issue
- 14:21with Joy -Cons from the first generation Switch
- 14:23having just like stick drift issues, and Nintendo
- 14:25just denied it for a long time, and it has been
- 14:27a legal nightmare for them. So people are a bit
- 14:29concerned to find that they're using the same
- 14:31technology in the Switch 2. It is a different
- 14:33part. but it's the same mechanism. So hopefully
- 14:37it won't go bad, but just look out for that.
- 14:40We also got a Witcher 4 tech demo. We saw a really,
- 14:43really, really pretty tech demo of the Witcher
- 14:454 running on Unreal Engine, and it's not actual
- 14:49gameplay. It's in -engine footage, but it's not...
- 14:53gameplay it's more of a demo of like this is
- 14:55what we're building like these are our tools
- 14:57and how we want to make the game and like if
- 15:00everything goes great this is how it can look
- 15:02but i mean it still looks it still looks it still
- 15:04looks really really good besides that summer
- 15:06games it's summer game fest there's been a lot
- 15:08of announcements i am not gonna bother trying
- 15:11to include every single announcement here i will
- 15:13link to several articles that list a whole bunch
- 15:15of stuff here are my top three This is not an
- 15:18actual top three. I haven't this is not exhaustive.
- 15:21I just saw these and got hype. A new Resident
- 15:23Evil. Resident Evil Requiem. A Lies of P DLC.
- 15:27I have not played Lies of P, but I know enough
- 15:29people who essentially have turned that game
- 15:31into their religion that I feel I should mention
- 15:33it. A new game by Yacht Club. The people who
- 15:35made Hollow Knight, they're making a new game
- 15:37called Mina the Hollower. Anyway, I lied. This
- 15:40is the fourth and top highlight. They're making
- 15:43a new Wu -Tang Clan game! Wu -Tang! Rise of the
- 15:46Deceiver! They are finally making a sequel! There
- 15:49was a Wu -Tang Clan game, like a long time ago.
- 15:53Lightning Round! Jonathan Joss, known for his
- 15:55roles in King of the Hill and Parks and Rec,
- 15:58was murdered by his neighbor. According to his
- 16:00husband, it was because of homophobia. And the
- 16:03cops were pretty much immediately like, nah,
- 16:06it's not a hate crime. They have since walked
- 16:08that back due to the hate crime nature. of the
- 16:11hate crime. The editorial board of the Philadelphia
- 16:14Inquirer published an op -ed digging into John
- 16:17Fetterman pretty strongly. They basically said,
- 16:19like, you were elected to represent the people
- 16:21and you're not doing that. A flotilla that's
- 16:23a, like, symbolic aid ship that has a bunch of
- 16:26international activists is making its way to
- 16:29Gaza, basically to bring attention to the whole
- 16:31situation and to force Israel into an awkward
- 16:34position. However, Israel being Israel, didn't
- 16:37really care about the awkward position. And they're
- 16:39like, yeah, we'll stop those activists by any
- 16:42means necessary. Boom, it's me again from the
- 16:44next day again. Israel has since captured the
- 16:48boat and the people on the boat. What we know
- 16:50is that the activists were taken into custody.
- 16:53Israel used drones to drop some kind of powder
- 16:55on their boat, which we don't know what that
- 16:58is quite yet. And the latest that I have seen
- 17:00is that Israel is going to make these activists
- 17:03watch footage of the October 7th attacks. Disney
- 17:07has announced that they're gonna be laying off
- 17:08several hundred more workers. A lost dog in the
- 17:11UK returned home after about a month -long journey.
- 17:15The dog went over a hundred miles, including
- 17:17swimming to an island. But dog's home now. Everything's
- 17:21okay. Mount Etna! It blew up! It erupted! Here,
- 17:27okay, this is my... Oh, this is a great opportunity.
- 17:29You all get to see my volcano impersonation.
- 17:31Here we go. I'm Mount Etna! I did great. And
- 17:37finally for today, a museum in Amsterdam has
- 17:39opened a new exhibit showing off a 200 -year
- 17:42-old condom. I'm not kidding. Thank you so much
- 17:45for listening to today's episode of Stuff Keeps
- 17:47Happening. Head to SKH .News for sources, bonus
- 17:50content, and a 300 -year -old condom. My name
- 17:55is Endeavorance. I'll be back on Monday. Take
- 17:57care and be well.
