- 0:00Speaker 1: A new location for Donald Fazon. Is that your animation suite?
- 0:04Speaker 2: I am in my animation room right now.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Guys, are you rolling on your deck? Are you rolling?
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm not rolling on my am I shooting something.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Make sure you're rolling on your audio recording.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Device, Yes, I am recording, says I'm recording. It's on
- 0:20Speaker 2: the zoom.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Can we hear your level? Can we hear your level?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Check?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Sound?
- 0:25Speaker 2: This is my level?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Well, that sounds like you're be singing loudly the whole time.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I don't think you will be.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Is this my level? It feels like my level. Yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 3: that might be too high. But that's too perfect.
- 0:38Speaker 1: That's too No one wants no one wants to hear yelling.
- 0:41Speaker 4: But you also shouldn't set your level at the point
- 0:44Speaker 4: that you're yelling.
- 0:45Speaker 1: You should see the level at the points a level check. Donald,
- 0:47Speaker 1: you've been in the business a long You've been in
- 0:49Speaker 1: the business a long time.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It's at seven. It's at seven.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Okay, okay? Donald? Do you notice anything about my image? No,
- 1:00Speaker 1: I switched back to using the fancy camera. I thought
- 1:03Speaker 1: you might notice it looks the same. That's not true, Daniel.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You notice right, you look very good.
- 1:09Speaker 3: You look well, I didn't say he didn't. I didn't
- 1:11Speaker 3: say he looked bad. I just said the imagery looks
- 1:13Speaker 3: the same.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm not crazy, right, Doude, dude, Daniel and Joel. You
- 1:17Speaker 1: notice the quality of the camera.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Right, yeah, pretty immediately the camera quality and also the
- 1:22Speaker 4: fact that it's not tracking you around the room a
- 1:24Speaker 4: zoom moves.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that was annoying. I guess that's a good feature
- 1:28Speaker 1: from Apple. If you're what if you're like on zoom
- 1:31Speaker 1: calls for work or something, but if you're recording a
- 1:34Speaker 1: video podcast that is not.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Good for Zoom calls at your own work.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Why what happened to you?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Nothing happened to me.
- 1:41Speaker 3: But if you're being tracked by your camera, Let's say
- 1:43Speaker 3: you go take a shit and that camera tracks you
- 1:46Speaker 3: all the way into the bathroom.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It doesn't do that, Donald, It doesn't follow you around
- 1:49Speaker 1: the house.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Imagine the camera flies.
- 1:52Speaker 1: You said the camera tracks if you move left and right,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it pans left and right. It doesn't doesn't. It doesn't
- 1:59Speaker 1: walk around the house.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I was about to say, flies off of the monitor
- 2:04Speaker 2: like a robot.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I've been seeing these rolling robots all around West Hollywood.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I don't know if you if listeners if you have
- 2:11Speaker 1: these in your neighborhood yet, I'm sure those of you
- 2:14Speaker 1: in large American cities probably seen them. But in West
- 2:17Speaker 1: Hollywood there are so many robots it's very creepy rolling
- 2:22Speaker 1: around delivering stuff.
- 2:24Speaker 2: What are they delivering?
- 2:25Speaker 1: I guess food. I don't know. I've never I don't
- 2:27Speaker 1: live in an area where a where ald delivery robot
- 2:29Speaker 1: could make it what they do?
- 2:31Speaker 5: Anything you can order off of your grub Hub or post.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Mast made door dash and what happens. It rolls up
- 2:38Speaker 1: to your door and you put in a code.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah you guys.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Have you guys received a robot delivery?
- 2:43Speaker 4: I have one time?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yes?
- 2:45Speaker 1: And what was it like? Dane talk us through it?
- 2:47Speaker 4: Well, I uh, me and my friends were so excited.
- 2:50Speaker 4: The robot's name was George. We stood outside of our
- 2:52Speaker 4: apartment watching it roll down the street and then a
- 2:55Speaker 4: group of children stood in front of it such that
- 2:58Speaker 4: it stopped moving and we had They yelled down the street, Hey,
- 3:01Speaker 4: that's our robot. That's our robot, and they said, what
- 3:04Speaker 4: are you going to do about it?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Oh? My god?
- 3:07Speaker 2: And the neighborhood did you live in? Daniel?
- 3:10Speaker 6: Literally this is literally like in like West Hollywood off
- 3:13Speaker 6: of Lobrea, like a friendly neighborhood. And then all of
- 3:16Speaker 6: a sudden and then me and my friends are like, okay,
- 3:18Speaker 6: then we're coming down here, and then they ran inside
- 3:20Speaker 6: and then George brought us a McDonald's.
- 3:22Speaker 1: The robots are designed to look kind of like Wally
- 3:25Speaker 1: to me, yes, and they have big eyes.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And Eva like Wally and Eva.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yes right. They were clearly designed to look very wide eyed,
- 3:34Speaker 1: and to me, I received them as little children who
- 3:38Speaker 1: are lost because they have they have big eyes. I
- 3:41Speaker 1: really my heart always breaks for these things. They're designed
- 3:45Speaker 1: with giant puppy dog eyes. They have their name on
- 3:48Speaker 1: the side, and every time I see them, they're confused
- 3:51Speaker 1: because they like you see them stopped at like a
- 3:55Speaker 1: sidewalk cafe because it doesn't know how to get around
- 3:57Speaker 1: the sidewalk cafe. The other day I saw one and
- 4:00Speaker 1: it would bumped into another robot and they didn't know
- 4:02Speaker 1: how to pass each other. They were just robots. But
- 4:08Speaker 1: when I see them crossing the street alone, I just
- 4:10Speaker 1: I feel like it's like a lost puppy that's that
- 4:12Speaker 1: doesn't know where it's going.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I'm always afraid someone's going to come and beat the
- 4:16Speaker 5: crap out of them.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And I'm sure they do.
- 4:18Speaker 5: They know they definitely have before. Was it in Boston
- 4:23Speaker 5: you kept beating up.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I don't understand. I don't understand the need to beat
- 4:30Speaker 3: up the road. I mean I do understand.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Way, I take that back. I understand the need to
- 4:35Speaker 2: beat up a robot.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I do understand because I remember when we were at
- 4:39Speaker 3: when I was a kid, and fucking whenever a mascot
- 4:42Speaker 3: would come out into the neighborhood, like it's when you
- 4:47Speaker 3: have security at Disneyland, that's one thing, But when you
- 4:51Speaker 3: walk into somebody's neighborhood in a fucking Teddy rock Spin
- 4:55Speaker 3: outfit and don't expect to get tackled and beat up,
- 5:00Speaker 3: you beat up. I was a part of a mob
- 5:04Speaker 3: that jumped on a ted at woman rink and we
- 5:10Speaker 3: didn't beat them Teddy Rocksman up.
- 5:12Speaker 2: He just took the clothes off the Teddy Russ. What
- 5:15Speaker 2: are you doing?
- 5:16Speaker 1: Oh my, you tackle.
- 5:18Speaker 3: There's a bunch of kids out there. They're all grown
- 5:20Speaker 3: now that know of this story. And was there that
- 5:23Speaker 3: day when some idiot decided to bring Teddy Rocksman out
- 5:28Speaker 3: amongst twelve to thirteen year old boys and girls at
- 5:33Speaker 3: ice skating rink.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Don't you think that person was trying to bring joy
- 5:36Speaker 1: to the children.
- 5:37Speaker 3: He bought a lot of joy or she WoT a
- 5:39Speaker 3: lot of joy.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:42Speaker 3: All I know is we laughed so hard at the
- 5:45Speaker 3: fact that Teddy Roxman was a woman, and we were like, oh, I.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Have to tell you that Teddy the robots remind me
- 5:54Speaker 1: of a Teddy Rocks fin because I worry that that
- 5:57Speaker 1: teenagers are going to do the same thing and beat
- 5:59Speaker 1: up these robots.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Well, we didn't beat up this person. We just tackled
- 6:04Speaker 3: and took.
- 6:04Speaker 1: His tackled and took the clothing off of the rush.
- 6:08Speaker 3: No, the Teddy Rock's been clothing, not all of the clothing,
- 6:11Speaker 3: just the Teddy Rocks beIN clothing.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Got it. Well, there you go. It's very bizarre driving around.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks like
- 6:18Speaker 1: this is such a weird future we're living in where
- 6:20Speaker 1: robots are doing all the delivery, and I'm sure drones
- 6:22Speaker 1: are aren't far behind.
- 6:24Speaker 2: There are drones.
- 6:25Speaker 3: If you drive through Hollywood right now, you're being tracked
- 6:28Speaker 3: by drones. If you if you go over the speed
- 6:30Speaker 3: limit and not Hollywood Beverly Hills. It says to you,
- 6:33Speaker 3: you're being tracked by drones.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Well, I had a I had a driver from the
- 6:37Speaker 1: airport tell me that in lower in downtown l A. There.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I don't know if he was crazy and making this up,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but they've begun doing deliveries from drones. I've seen videos
- 6:49Speaker 1: of that. Really.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Yeah, Like it's it's still like very beta testing, Like
- 6:53Speaker 4: you know, eventually we'll be seeing them flying around like
- 6:55Speaker 4: it's like the fifth element where it's just like a whole.
- 6:59Speaker 3: That that's what the flying car is. The flying car
- 7:02Speaker 3: isn't going to be a car like what we know.
- 7:04Speaker 3: It's literally going to be a drone and you sit
- 7:06Speaker 3: in a bubble in the middle of the drone.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Right, that's already a thing. Yeah, but I think in
- 7:11Speaker 1: our Daniel's right, in our lifetime, at the very least,
- 7:14Speaker 1: we're going to see we're going to look up and
- 7:16Speaker 1: see like drone traffic delivering shit.
- 7:18Speaker 2: For sure.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We might even see flying cars in our lifetime if
- 7:21Speaker 3: we're lucky in the next in the next will in the.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Next thirty years, I believe. Oh absolutely, wow.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Well there's already there's already a commercial thing you can
- 7:32Speaker 1: buy that's a flying one car drone. Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Yeah, the regulations for that stuff are going to be
- 7:38Speaker 4: real rough, I know.
- 7:40Speaker 1: But wouldn't you have thought the regulations for self driving
- 7:43Speaker 1: cars would be crazy? Wouldn't you have thought that robots
- 7:46Speaker 1: going down the street would be crazy. It's all happening
- 7:48Speaker 1: and people are getting it all through.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I agree. I just think that there's you know, three
- 7:53Speaker 4: dimensional space is a little bit different than like, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 4: I know, cars exist in a three dimensional space, but
- 7:58Speaker 4: they move into two dimensional plane, which a little bit
- 8:00Speaker 4: easier to control versus planes in the sky where it's
- 8:03Speaker 4: like height regulations, space regulations.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Well, who's to say that.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Who's to say that the airline business will be here
- 8:09Speaker 3: in thirty years. I mean, we're pushing towards electricity and
- 8:12Speaker 3: all of that stuff right now, and one of the
- 8:14Speaker 3: biggest pollutions in the sky right now or period are
- 8:18Speaker 3: airline companies and stuff like that. So who's to say
- 8:21Speaker 3: that in the future that's not the next thing to
- 8:25Speaker 3: go electrician.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It will be electric one day, but it's still there's
- 8:29Speaker 1: stillnna be airline traffic.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Right But even with airlines, I'm just saying, even with
- 8:33Speaker 3: airline traffic, it's still there will be levels to it,
- 8:36Speaker 3: you know what I mean. I don't think anybody's trying
- 8:37Speaker 3: to fly a drone thirty thousand feet in the air,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Like, yeah, you know, I think I definitely agree with you.
- 8:46Speaker 3: There will be no flying around the airport that you'll
- 8:49Speaker 3: have to land that thing.
- 8:50Speaker 2: All of that shit, You're right, Danil, And.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Then they're going to also have to put some type
- 8:55Speaker 3: of chip in the shit to make sure that you
- 8:58Speaker 3: can't just go rogue. And oh my god, just so
- 9:01Speaker 3: many things to It won't be free like what's what's.
- 9:05Speaker 2: The ship that we do when we play video games?
- 9:07Speaker 2: There's there's free water pilot. It won't be free world, No,
- 9:11Speaker 2: that shit will be straight up track.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Also, also imagine that you imagine that you get in
- 9:15Speaker 4: a self driving car and you have a known warrant
- 9:17Speaker 4: for your arrest. Where do you think that car is
- 9:19Speaker 4: going to drive.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You right to face recognition? And it just that's good.
- 9:23Speaker 1: That's a good sci fi movie. By the way, I
- 9:25Speaker 1: want to highly recommend the show Ripley on Netflix.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Is it about Ripley from Aliens?
- 9:32Speaker 7: Now?
- 9:32Speaker 1: It's about It's from the novel The Talented Mister Ripley,
- 9:36Speaker 1: and everyone remembers the famous Matt Damon, Jude Law Gwyneth
- 9:40Speaker 1: Paltrow movie, But that's just a two hour tale from
- 9:44Speaker 1: this epic novel, and it was just retold with Andrew Scott,
- 9:48Speaker 1: who's a phenomenal actor. Those of you who don't recognize
- 9:52Speaker 1: his name, he was the hot priest on Flea Bag
- 9:55Speaker 1: and he's such a good actor. And so they were
- 9:58Speaker 1: able to tell an eight our version of the story
- 10:02Speaker 1: on Netflix, and it's so beautifully shot and wonderfully acted.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I highly highly recommend it.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I didn't want to go even more in depth.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a whole lot more story than the movie,
- 10:15Speaker 1: And honestly, I think it might be one of the
- 10:19Speaker 1: best examples of cinematography I've ever seen on television. Really,
- 10:23Speaker 1: it's black and white every single frame. It's all takes
- 10:26Speaker 1: place in like nineteen fifties Italy and every single rate.
- 10:31Speaker 3: That's a big thing coming from you, bro. Best cinematography
- 10:34Speaker 3: and television.
- 10:35Speaker 1: History, definitely, I think in the top of five television
- 10:40Speaker 1: shows I've ever seen in terms of cinematography. Wow, every frame.
- 10:44Speaker 1: When you watch it, audience and you three, you'll be
- 10:48Speaker 1: aware that just of the framing and the lighting, every
- 10:51Speaker 1: frame is more and beautiful than the last. It's stunning.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And the fact that they executed it in Italy, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three or whatever. They magically really make
- 11:03Speaker 1: you believe that you're in the fifties in Italy and
- 11:08Speaker 1: the acting is so good. Well, mister, there you go.
- 11:12Speaker 1: There's my recommendation of the week I'm watching that I have.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I have no recommendations.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Has started?
- 11:21Speaker 2: No?
- 11:22Speaker 1: When does that start? Which one lyrics Acolyte.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I'm not really excited about Acolyte. I don't know much about.
- 11:30Speaker 1: It, even from such excitement before.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I like the trailer. It was good, but then after
- 11:35Speaker 2: you watch it after a while, it's like, what's this
- 11:37Speaker 2: show going to be?
- 11:38Speaker 4: June fourth? We'll find out.
- 11:40Speaker 2: No, we'll find out June fourth.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And then and then like right after that, there's another
- 11:44Speaker 3: Star Wars show coming on, and then we have Tales
- 11:47Speaker 3: of the Empire coming. There are a bunch of Star
- 11:50Speaker 3: Wars things coming that I am excited about.
- 11:52Speaker 5: But are you watching Shogun?
- 11:54Speaker 1: I gotta watch that.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I think I might have to.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I need to watch something because right now, my fucking
- 11:58Speaker 3: like I feel like I'm just in a groundhog day
- 12:01Speaker 3: and everything I watch is, uh, it's the same, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 3: it's it's it's I'm a fantasy guy, and I guess
- 12:10Speaker 3: the fantasy is told the same.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Way every time.
- 12:14Speaker 3: It seems like, dude, it's.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Definitely got strong three body problem. I was going to
- 12:23Speaker 1: suggest that too, that's definitely Bill. Bill Lawrence, our friend
- 12:28Speaker 1: Bill Laurence said that he watched the pilot and really
- 12:31Speaker 1: liked that.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It's I need something because.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Whole seasons out on Netflix.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Watch that.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Okay, I watched all the Invincible that was fired, you
- 12:38Speaker 3: know what I mean? But I watched that in like
- 12:40Speaker 3: one day, you know what I mean, Like, uh, it's
- 12:44Speaker 3: too short, And then they tried to act like, well,
- 12:46Speaker 3: it's animation. Come on, motherfucker, that's to the animation on computer.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Y'all could have got that ship out a lot quicker
- 12:54Speaker 3: than you're pretending to be, you know what I mean?
- 12:58Speaker 3: Six episode seven and how many episodes and of a
- 13:01Speaker 3: fucking comic book that's been out for decades or over
- 13:06Speaker 3: a decade.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Get the fuck out of here, man, Thank you?
- 13:13Speaker 1: All right, Shall we get into the TV show Scrubs?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Where what is this? I think it's the penultimate episode
- 13:19Speaker 1: of JD. On season nine. It is episode five of
- 13:24Speaker 1: season nine, Count of Sin, Donald.
- 13:26Speaker 7: Five six seven stories that show we made about a
- 13:32Speaker 7: bunch of dogs and nurses said.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Here's the stories news.
- 13:41Speaker 8: So YadA ra here, yeada here show.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Okay, Donald, tell us about your feelings of this episode.
- 13:55Speaker 1: You have been.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Very I've been the most critical.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Out of them, you've been the most critical and I
- 14:01Speaker 1: and I want to give the audience a balanced view.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I want them to to.
- 14:07Speaker 3: There's no way this is a there's going to be
- 14:08Speaker 3: a balanced view because I feel like all of your
- 14:11Speaker 3: all of you are going to be on the same
- 14:12Speaker 3: page as me.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Yeah, this episode was not good. Let's be you. But
- 14:16Speaker 1: I want to give the audience.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I don't want.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I try audience to watch each one with new eyes
- 14:25Speaker 1: and go no judgment. It's a clean slate. Let's take
- 14:28Speaker 1: this in. I'm not I'm not going in with negativity.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And this was just not funny. It is a half
- 14:37Speaker 1: hour comedy.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Remember it was boring as can be too, Like it
- 14:42Speaker 3: was like, listen, were you and I aren't high on
- 14:47Speaker 3: the highest level of fucking acting right now?
- 14:50Speaker 2: That way, we're going way too overboard.
- 14:53Speaker 1: What show are we on?
- 14:55Speaker 2: What are we doing. What are we doing?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Do you remember when you when I make fun of
- 14:59Speaker 1: your acting in that that commercial is a child coffee commercial.
- 15:03Speaker 1: When you go you have been away a long time.
- 15:06Speaker 2: We are doing that.
- 15:07Speaker 1: We are like you as a nine year old. How
- 15:11Speaker 1: old are you that?
- 15:12Speaker 2: I was probably eleven.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah, we're acting like eleven year olds who got their
- 15:17Speaker 1: first job.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yes, you know, I take that back. It's polished, it's good.
- 15:24Speaker 3: It's it's not like we're bad actors, but we're just
- 15:28Speaker 3: overdoing it.
- 15:29Speaker 2: We're like so.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Far over I think my acting is bad. I've said
- 15:32Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I don't think your acting is bad. As Donald, you
- 15:36Speaker 3: will have gone. I think you have gone the way
- 15:40Speaker 3: of You're now just a complete laugh war and we're
- 15:44Speaker 3: trying so hard for the laugh that we're that we're crashing.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I think Donald, it's I, as the British say, have
- 15:53Speaker 1: lost the plot. I am just so cartoonishly large. Yes,
- 15:58Speaker 1: and you're right, I guess I'll laugh for but not
- 16:02Speaker 1: even like any basis in reality.
- 16:06Speaker 3: No, there's nothing grounded about our performance. No, Like when
- 16:10Speaker 3: I'm watching this, I'm like, holy shit, dude, you're like
- 16:13Speaker 3: if you were to compare the first episode of scrubs
- 16:17Speaker 3: to this.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's I want to take responsibility to the audience
- 16:21Speaker 1: because I've always should talked season nine, but I'm I'm
- 16:24Speaker 1: I'm a contributor to the problem.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I am such a contributor to the problem in the situation.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I am such a contribute I want to take responsibility
- 16:32Speaker 1: and apologize to the audience for my contributions to this
- 16:36Speaker 1: being a really broad, not based in reality form of acting.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And then so there's that, and then my favorite part
- 16:45Speaker 3: of the show now is fucking Drew and Denise. That's
- 16:51Speaker 3: the better part of the show. You know, what they're doing.
- 16:53Speaker 3: What it felt like to me is like when we
- 16:55Speaker 3: remember when we were watching it in the beginning and
- 16:58Speaker 3: a lot of the story was yours and Cox.
- 17:02Speaker 2: They're like the same couple. They're like that couple.
- 17:04Speaker 3: All of a sudden, it's like they make fun of
- 17:07Speaker 3: each other, they shit on each other, one trying to
- 17:10Speaker 3: up the other, but they're in love with each other.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Like you could follow these two, I know, but everyone
- 17:14Speaker 2: would be the same storyline.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Everyone has a person that's their new incarnation. Like you know,
- 17:21Speaker 1: Carrie Bosche is the new JD. Coole. I guess he's
- 17:25Speaker 1: the new todd Ish, they're the new Jordan and Cox.
- 17:30Speaker 3: And then now Cox is like the new Kelso, Like,
- 17:33Speaker 3: what the fuck he's sitting here causing He's causing all
- 17:36Speaker 3: of his trouble.
- 17:37Speaker 2: What is your problem, bro? What's your problem?
- 17:39Speaker 1: He's a dick?
- 17:41Speaker 2: I mean, what is your problem?
- 17:42Speaker 1: He was always like a jerk because he it was
- 17:45Speaker 1: tough love and he wanted them to be good doctors.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And I guess this plot tries to pull that as well,
- 17:50Speaker 1: but it really felt like several times I was like,
- 17:53Speaker 1: what a dick? Yeah, yeah, Like there's nothing redeemable about him.
- 17:58Speaker 3: No, And even at the end when he's like I'm trying,
- 18:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna like, yeah, he tried. When he gives her
- 18:02Speaker 3: the I, we're gonna jump ahead, guys, sorry, and then
- 18:04Speaker 3: we'll go back when he lets himself be the buddy
- 18:08Speaker 3: for the IV at the end, I don't give a shit.
- 18:12Speaker 3: The conversation with JD doesn't land the way it should
- 18:16Speaker 3: because you're like, why are you still trying to teach
- 18:18Speaker 3: lessons to this fucking to the teacher in front of
- 18:22Speaker 3: the students. If anything, you made the student's whole lessons,
- 18:27Speaker 3: all of his lessons, not have any credibility because you
- 18:30Speaker 3: clown him in front of the whole class right before
- 18:33Speaker 3: he leaves.
- 18:33Speaker 1: And also JD's leaving again, Like didn't he just leave?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Why is he leaving again? I mean, I know I'm
- 18:38Speaker 1: leaving because my contracts up, but as an exer, but
- 18:41Speaker 1: why I even lost track of story? Why is JD
- 18:44Speaker 1: leaving again?
- 18:46Speaker 2: I couldn't tell you.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I think she gives another offer difference.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I missed whatever exposition was. Why JD's leaving yet again?
- 18:55Speaker 2: It all long? Does I work at the hospital with Sam? Where? Sam? Where?
- 18:59Speaker 2: It's close to say it?
- 19:00Speaker 1: I don't know, but I know that I only did
- 19:02Speaker 1: six episodes and in this episode I was carrying a
- 19:05Speaker 1: box and You're like, come on one more Eagle, and
- 19:07Speaker 1: I'm like, what the fuck didn't we just do this
- 19:09Speaker 1: four episodego? Five episodes ago? Anyway, it is what it is.
- 19:15Speaker 1: JD's last day, guys.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 19:17Speaker 1: JD had to watch a four hour video called Boundaries because.
- 19:22Speaker 2: He touched a person in the chest in.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Their heart, a woman he meant to he meant, he
- 19:28Speaker 1: meant to reference something in their heart, and he touched
- 19:30Speaker 1: her heart and then was forced to take a course.
- 19:33Speaker 1: So now when he speaks to Lucy. He references her
- 19:36Speaker 1: stomach and she says, why are you pointing to my stomach?
- 19:39Speaker 1: And he said, because I had to watch a four
- 19:40Speaker 1: hour video on boundaries.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I actually did like this part where Cox is talking
- 19:47Speaker 3: to the students and he's, you know, saying, how all
- 19:53Speaker 3: of them are probably going to pass this test. This
- 19:55Speaker 3: is an easy test, but there's sometimes as that one person,
- 20:01Speaker 3: that one student that can't do it. And it's a
- 20:04Speaker 3: gift for him because he gets to send somebody home
- 20:08Speaker 3: at a very very early stage in their career. You
- 20:11Speaker 3: want to be a doctor and you can't draw blood.
- 20:14Speaker 3: This ain't for you, kid, you know what I mean.
- 20:16Speaker 3: And it's rare, but it right. You want you got dreams,
- 20:20Speaker 3: you want fame, but it's rare it happens. It's rare
- 20:23Speaker 3: that it happens, and it happens, and when it does happen,
- 20:26Speaker 3: it happened for him.
- 20:28Speaker 2: It's like Christmas.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I did like that analogy because don't waste my time, right,
- 20:33Speaker 3: That's pretty much what he's saying.
- 20:35Speaker 2: All of y'all here.
- 20:36Speaker 3: If you can't pass this test, you are wasting my
- 20:39Speaker 3: fucking time and you don't.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Deserve to be nice to learn that a med student
- 20:45Speaker 1: this far along in where they are wouldn't be able
- 20:49Speaker 1: to draw blood.
- 20:51Speaker 2: But maybe his motherfucker skate dude, I'm.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Sh I suppose yeah, I just would have thought that. Again,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I guess I don't really fully get how how along
- 21:00Speaker 1: these kids are, but I guess maybe obviously they're at
- 21:03Speaker 1: the point where it's time to draw blood for the
- 21:05Speaker 1: first time. I don't know. I was just surprised that,
- 21:06Speaker 1: like Lucy didn't know how to draw blood, And.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Why are they drawing blood through a needle and pulling it?
- 21:13Speaker 3: Don't you put the stint and the thing in it
- 21:17Speaker 3: and you put the tube and all that, Like, isn't.
- 21:18Speaker 1: That they were doing? They had that little butterfly needle
- 21:20Speaker 1: and then they were putting the just the test tube.
- 21:23Speaker 2: It looked like she was pulling it with the no.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I think I think we would have gotten that right
- 21:28Speaker 1: for sure. You know, Scrubbs did pride itself on being acted.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I don't know, man, this is this is med.
- 21:32Speaker 1: School, okay, So Cox is just on a tear. He's
- 21:36Speaker 1: really just I mean, screaming at these kids, trying to
- 21:40Speaker 1: scare the fuck out of them and tells them they
- 21:42Speaker 1: all need to draw blood or they're gonna be kicked
- 21:44Speaker 1: out of med school. Jad's slide presentation to time in
- 21:48Speaker 1: my life was pretty funny, especially when you pull back
- 21:51Speaker 1: to reveal me in the exact position as the ending slide.
- 21:54Speaker 3: I remember this episode us dressing up as a Hardy boys.
- 21:58Speaker 3: This is not so far enough away that I don't
- 22:02Speaker 3: remember it, you know what I mean? This is like
- 22:05Speaker 3: I do remember me putting on the hairpiece for the
- 22:07Speaker 3: Hardy Boys, and.
- 22:08Speaker 1: That that party boys thing is pretty funny when I go,
- 22:13Speaker 1: Dad's gonna be so proud of us, black adopted brother.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I don't know anything about the Hardy Boys, but either
- 22:24Speaker 1: do you guys know anything about the Hardy Boys?
- 22:26Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 22:27Speaker 5: Boy detective sometimes hung out with Nancy Drew classic stories
- 22:32Speaker 5: somewhat like Scooby Doo, a little less silly.
- 22:36Speaker 1: So they were boys that that solved mysteries.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Did you ever read the book about the Girl with
- 22:41Speaker 3: the Photographic Memory? Was a series of novels of little
- 22:45Speaker 3: teenage books. And she would go click and was the
- 22:50Speaker 3: name of that ship? And she would say that ship
- 22:54Speaker 3: And that's how she would remember shit, like if she
- 22:57Speaker 3: and and and she was a detective, right, and so
- 23:00Speaker 3: she'd be out and about and if she thought something
- 23:02Speaker 3: was just a little odd, she'd go click and then
- 23:05Speaker 3: she could remember everything that was happening.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I remade that into a TV show or a movie.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Cam Jansen, Oh my god, Yeah, what's it called cam Jansen?
- 23:17Speaker 2: Cam Jansen, the cam Jansen series.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Wow, she had a photographic memory.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that was her superpower.
- 23:25Speaker 5: That's amazing.
- 23:26Speaker 2: That's probably the best superpower.
- 23:28Speaker 3: And for people who don't, who can't fly and can't
- 23:32Speaker 3: turn invisible and all of that shit. Okay, I'm gonna
- 23:35Speaker 3: jump off on another tangent. There's two things I learned
- 23:38Speaker 3: during spring break and while looking at the computer. One,
- 23:43Speaker 3: if we train our bodies at a certain point, we
- 23:48Speaker 3: can reach superpower. I'm not saying we can fly and
- 23:52Speaker 3: stuff like that, but to leap far and to be
- 23:56Speaker 3: extra strong. You'd be surprised how far the human body
- 23:59Speaker 3: can go. That's the first thing. But an actual superpower
- 24:02Speaker 3: to me is a photographic memory. If you can remember
- 24:06Speaker 3: anything in everything, and there are people out there who
- 24:09Speaker 3: can do that. If you can say I want to
- 24:11Speaker 3: remember this, how can you ever? Like, you could be
- 24:16Speaker 3: a doctor, you could be a lawyer, well case study,
- 24:18Speaker 3: you could be anything that has to do with some
- 24:21Speaker 3: type of reference or history, a detective, anything that has
- 24:25Speaker 3: to do with that, you'd be the best at it.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Like if you had if you had that power, And
- 24:30Speaker 3: that's the Oh I wish I had that. That's the
- 24:31Speaker 3: one thing I wish I had. I wish I had
- 24:33Speaker 3: a photographic memory.
- 24:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I saw a movie where a guy referenced it and
- 24:37Speaker 1: he's he if he read something once, he could recite it.
- 24:40Speaker 1: He just that is I guess that is a real
- 24:42Speaker 1: thing for some people.
- 24:43Speaker 5: They have whole competitions really yeah, like memorize memorization contests,
- 24:49Speaker 5: and they have these really funky ways of like remembering
- 24:52Speaker 5: very very very long passages of texts, or they'll give
- 24:55Speaker 5: them like really convoluted directions and they have to navigate
- 24:58Speaker 5: a map from memory.
- 25:00Speaker 2: How long do they have to do the memorization.
- 25:03Speaker 5: It depends on the competition. I saw, Oh man, it
- 25:06Speaker 5: was like a New York Times piece or something they
- 25:08Speaker 5: did like what video essay where they give the girl
- 25:10Speaker 5: like seven and a half minutes to read like fifty
- 25:13Speaker 5: pages and she was like doing the speed read thing,
- 25:16Speaker 5: but then she was also like creating a memory map
- 25:19Speaker 5: in her head of what she was reading. So that
- 25:21Speaker 5: when they were asked her to call specific details, she
- 25:24Speaker 5: could do it and like the blink of an eye.
- 25:26Speaker 5: It was crazy. I don't know, Like, there's there's a
- 25:28Speaker 5: way you can teach yourself. She's like, you don't have
- 25:30Speaker 5: to be a genius to learn memorization.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Memorization.
- 25:33Speaker 1: There's another one of these things. Have you guys seen
- 25:36Speaker 1: have we talked about this where you can remember exactly
- 25:39Speaker 1: what happened on any day of your life.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome, it would be awesome.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I saw a special on this. It is a specific
- 25:48Speaker 1: brain skill and there was a famous actress. What's the
- 25:52Speaker 1: name of the actress who was the female lead on
- 25:55Speaker 1: Taxi Mary Lou No, Yeah, you're close. Will you guys
- 25:59Speaker 1: look that up? She had She was in special now
- 26:05Speaker 1: maryly w Red I think is the gymnast Mary Lou Henner,
- 26:07Speaker 1: Mary Lou Henner, Is that correct?
- 26:09Speaker 5: Mariel Henner?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Mary, Yeah, Muriel Henner, Mary.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Lou Henner, Yeah, m A R I l U.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Mary Lou Henner has this And if you guys are more,
- 26:21Speaker 1: google or YouTube the video about Mary Lou Henner and
- 26:24Speaker 1: being able to remember any dates because they had this
- 26:26Speaker 1: special on these people and they were like an including
- 26:29Speaker 1: celebrity Mary Lou Henner, who's also one of these people,
- 26:32Speaker 1: and they would just the interviewer would name a date,
- 26:35Speaker 1: any date in their life, and they would tell you
- 26:37Speaker 1: exactly what happened that day, what they what the day
- 26:40Speaker 1: was like, what the weather was like. They just their
- 26:42Speaker 1: brain has a thing where that just locks into a
- 26:45Speaker 1: storage drive is as easy as you reading it.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Highly superior autobiographical memory or h SAM that Mary Lou
- 26:54Speaker 5: Henner has, that's h SAM.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:57Speaker 3: So look, it's a it's a it's a well, I
- 27:00Speaker 3: guess if not everybody has it, it's considered a what's
- 27:04Speaker 3: the word I'm looking for?
- 27:06Speaker 1: Not a party truck that's considered a party.
- 27:09Speaker 3: No, well, that's that's what it could be used for.
- 27:12Speaker 3: But isn't it like a debilitation if you have some
- 27:15Speaker 3: shit like that, Like.
- 27:16Speaker 5: They describe it as a condition. So it doesn't inhibit
- 27:19Speaker 5: her from doing anything, you know, it just gives her
- 27:23Speaker 5: like all of these.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Other But if you get a chance, watch the video
- 27:25Speaker 1: of her being interviewed. She was with like I don't
- 27:27Speaker 1: know five other people that there weren't celebrities. She just
- 27:29Speaker 1: happens to be a famous actress who has it and
- 27:32Speaker 1: they were just going around the room, like nineteen eighty two,
- 27:35Speaker 1: January third. She goes, I remember it was very cold
- 27:38Speaker 1: and I was wearing red sweatpants and I had just
- 27:41Speaker 1: gone to the theater and then we went to I mean,
- 27:44Speaker 1: it's just so trippy. Wow.
- 27:45Speaker 3: So she should be able to pull from some horrific
- 27:49Speaker 3: days and everything like that.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yeah, if you pick a bad one.
- 27:53Speaker 2: That's fucking horrible. Man.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I don't think that, Like she's sitting there living them
- 27:58Speaker 1: all at the same time, she's if you call one up.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's just how foul foul and
- 28:04Speaker 1: just how impressive and amazing is an infinite are our brain.
- 28:07Speaker 3: If you could remember any day vividly, vividly, what would
- 28:13Speaker 3: it be like. There's people there, There's people that are
- 28:15Speaker 3: probably like I remember when I was born. I came
- 28:17Speaker 3: out the woomb it was light.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I wonder if that that fall category, if she can remember,
- 28:23Speaker 1: like I remember, there was bright light and it was
- 28:26Speaker 1: coming from sort of an envelope sized space.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It stretched and stretched.
- 28:33Speaker 1: And the light got bigger and bigger.
- 28:35Speaker 3: The next thing I knew, I was being slept on
- 28:37Speaker 3: the ass by some white man.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Some white man was hitting me hard on my back
- 28:43Speaker 1: and then there was a titty in my face. It
- 28:47Speaker 1: was good, and that it was and that milk was
- 28:51Speaker 1: delicious and warm. Sorry, we go to break right back
- 28:57Speaker 1: after these Fine what you're trying to get into one day?
- 29:02Speaker 1: What you're trying to.
- 29:03Speaker 10: Do, and we're back.
- 29:13Speaker 2: We're We're so back, We're back.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Okay. So JD he does this whole PowerPoint demonstration. He's
- 29:20Speaker 1: trying to get points for the teacher evaluations. He says
- 29:26Speaker 1: powerful stuff, huh. And then he tried to do a
- 29:29Speaker 1: balloon drop and that didn't work. And then he did
- 29:31Speaker 1: two hours off froyo And if you tell him doctor
- 29:33Speaker 1: D sent you, you get a extra whip.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Like they went all out. They went all out to
- 29:39Speaker 3: try and make JD fucking arkle, like they went all out,
- 29:46Speaker 3: like everything is like straight up, yeah, think about it,
- 29:50Speaker 3: doctor D.
- 29:51Speaker 2: He's just like straight up this character, now you know
- 29:55Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 29:57Speaker 3: Yeah, man, like like or or screech or and I'm
- 30:02Speaker 3: building like that's the fucking crazy shit.
- 30:04Speaker 2: It's like, holy can you not a teacher?
- 30:06Speaker 1: How come you're not being a value?
- 30:07Speaker 3: I'm a surgeon. I'm a surgeon, dude. Surgeons don't I mean,
- 30:11Speaker 3: I don't know what the fuck I am.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I'm just there.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that the black friend.
- 30:16Speaker 2: There's no reason.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I don't know why.
- 30:18Speaker 2: They never.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Explained there's no reason for any of us to be there. Well,
- 30:24Speaker 1: they don't explain what you're doing there, like you don't
- 30:27Speaker 1: seem to teach, and I would teach.
- 30:30Speaker 5: One of season nine, you do visit Turk's extremely small
- 30:33Speaker 5: classrooms giant lecture hall, but we haven't been back to
- 30:37Speaker 5: a classroom of Turk since.
- 30:39Speaker 1: They weren't really tracking Turk as teacher. Because we're talking
- 30:42Speaker 1: about the teacher evaluations.
- 30:43Speaker 3: I am John Boyega in episode eight of Star Wars.
- 30:52Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 30:52Speaker 5: I see in the Last Jedi when they instead of
- 30:55Speaker 5: making him the lead Jedi, they made him the goofy
- 30:57Speaker 5: best friend.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I thought he was the stormtrooper who saves.
- 31:03Speaker 2: The day in the first movie.
- 31:04Speaker 1: In the first I didn't watch the second one.
- 31:06Speaker 3: The second movie, they just abandoned that completely. Fuck that shit. Dude,
- 31:10Speaker 3: you know what you're gonna do. You're gonna dance.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Did he dance?
- 31:14Speaker 2: No, but he kind of dances.
- 31:16Speaker 5: He does stumble out half naked in like a sprouting
- 31:19Speaker 5: water suit. Gag. That's his introduction back into.
- 31:21Speaker 1: The Sorry these are references. I don't know, all right,
- 31:26Speaker 1: So what about Cox flicking the dead corpse? That was
- 31:29Speaker 1: so weird to me? Didn't you just feel like that
- 31:32Speaker 1: was like like out, I mean, I know Cox is
- 31:35Speaker 1: Cox doesn't have disrespect for corpses, does he?
- 31:38Speaker 5: No, it's gonna say. The main thing with Cox is
- 31:40Speaker 5: so weird. It's like his anger in the original Scrub
- 31:43Speaker 5: series is always at the institution for not treating people
- 31:47Speaker 5: with the lover Wilfs respect he thinks they deserve. It's
- 31:49Speaker 5: always at the larger institution. But here, man, it's is
- 31:53Speaker 5: that anybody who can take a shot, anybody.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I agree with you, Joelle, it was about the institution.
- 32:00Speaker 3: No, back in the day, it was about, look, the
- 32:02Speaker 3: institution can't fuck you, and yo respect the institution too,
- 32:06Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 32:07Speaker 2: That was what was redeeming about him. That was what
- 32:09Speaker 2: was awesome.
- 32:10Speaker 3: It was like, look, it's not only about how the
- 32:13Speaker 3: system treats you, it's how you treat the system also.
- 32:15Speaker 3: There's a level of respect going both ways. Now he
- 32:18Speaker 3: just seems to be like you're in my way, You're
- 32:20Speaker 3: in my way.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And also flicking a corpse's ear, Like that just seems
- 32:28Speaker 1: really out of character, Like disrespecting a cadaver does not
- 32:31Speaker 1: seem in line with doctor Cox agreed. JD says that
- 32:38Speaker 1: he had one line in his theater camp's production of Oliver,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and it was no thank you, I don't like soup.
- 32:50Speaker 1: So he gets an anonymous negative review and he totally spirals,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and he says, Turk in my needy tell me one
- 32:58Speaker 1: hundred times.
- 33:01Speaker 2: This. I feel like we've done this episode before.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Well, JD, I don't know we have.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Just in fact, Okay, I get that we're on the
- 33:12Speaker 3: show and that we're the original cast, but when you
- 33:16Speaker 3: watch the opening, it's about the interns and the freaking
- 33:20Speaker 3: students and stuff.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Why are we the main characters in this shit?
- 33:24Speaker 1: Like the concept was to wean the audience off of us.
- 33:29Speaker 3: But what happens when you leave though? That's the thing.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Sarah comes in, like what the fuck? Like, we're just it.
- 33:35Speaker 3: It's there is no weaning. It's like we're tricking the
- 33:39Speaker 3: audience almost this we I'm sorry. I think this show
- 33:42Speaker 3: would have done way better if I wasn't on it,
- 33:46Speaker 3: Like straight up, like I'm not going to say you
- 33:49Speaker 3: or anybody else that's from the original cast. It would
- 33:52Speaker 3: have been better if I was like a like, this
- 33:53Speaker 3: is the one time where I look at this like
- 33:55Speaker 3: a reboot would have been better than this shit, Like
- 33:58Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like this is I'm I'm
- 34:00Speaker 3: I'm angry at Turk and JD right now. It's like, y'all,
- 34:04Speaker 3: they've gone so far off the rails and into this
- 34:08Speaker 3: new world and stuff that it's not even believable. And
- 34:11Speaker 3: it's not even like even with the Ostriches and and
- 34:14Speaker 3: and and them forming a century, you know what i mean, Like,
- 34:17Speaker 3: even with all of that, that's still kind of felt
- 34:20Speaker 3: grounded in some way.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I just felt grounded. That's a bad example, but I
- 34:25Speaker 1: do know.
- 34:25Speaker 3: But I'm saying I'm using that because that's the most
- 34:28Speaker 3: extreme that it got.
- 34:29Speaker 1: The just stole your cago and it came in. They
- 34:33Speaker 1: put it on, put it and then he closed he
- 34:37Speaker 1: closed the gate of the garden with his horse or
- 34:40Speaker 1: whatever you call it. Yes, and then they started alternating
- 34:45Speaker 1: guard duty to keep it in the tree.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Yes, and still and still and it was more grounded.
- 34:51Speaker 1: And then through Jason Bateman's window.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yes and still seems more grounded than what we're watching
- 34:59Speaker 3: right now.
- 35:00Speaker 1: This definitely is a tone change, and it's very noticeable.
- 35:05Speaker 7: You know.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes if you watch a series. I'm not going
- 35:08Speaker 1: to call anyone out because I don't want to be
- 35:09Speaker 1: that guy. But if you watch a series you love
- 35:12Speaker 1: and all of a sudden season two, it really feels different.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You know, the writer's changed, often a different show runner
- 35:20Speaker 1: or a different team, and you might be going I
- 35:24Speaker 1: kind of still like this, maybe, but what is different?
- 35:27Speaker 1: And you might not be able to put your finger
- 35:28Speaker 1: on it. And sometimes it's something as big as it's
- 35:32Speaker 1: a different showrunner, and obviously that was the case here.
- 35:35Speaker 1: It's for the first time, a totally different showrunner and
- 35:38Speaker 1: the tone is different.
- 35:39Speaker 2: But the showrunner of this show has gone on to
- 35:41Speaker 2: do some successful stuff.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying that he couldn't be brilliant. I'm sure
- 35:44Speaker 1: he's brilliant. I'm just saying that you can't. No two
- 35:50Speaker 1: showrunners are going to be able to mimic the exact
- 35:52Speaker 1: same tone.
- 35:54Speaker 3: I was a part of a change a shift like
- 35:55Speaker 3: that one time that was it was like, Wow, this
- 35:59Speaker 3: isn't even the same. I was on Clueless and Clueless
- 36:03Speaker 3: was on ABC, and when it went from the movie
- 36:06Speaker 3: to the television show, Amy Heckerling still was involved and
- 36:09Speaker 3: she show ran the first season. At the end of
- 36:12Speaker 3: the season, ABC decided they weren't going to pick it up,
- 36:15Speaker 3: and I don't know what happened, but she kind of
- 36:17Speaker 3: left as the showrunner. And the dude Tim O'Donnell, who
- 36:23Speaker 3: show ran Growing Pains for a little bit, he came
- 36:26Speaker 3: on and started doing the show, and the show shifted
- 36:29Speaker 3: from this Beverly Hills show like that was very similar
- 36:33Speaker 3: to the movie, to something that was written for young teens,
- 36:38Speaker 3: and you know what I mean, Like the movie. When
- 36:39Speaker 3: you watch the movie, it's for everyone. It's adults, and
- 36:42Speaker 3: when you're a kid, you kind of fantasize, this is
- 36:45Speaker 3: kind of how I want to be.
- 36:46Speaker 2: But the movie's really for adults, you know what I mean.
- 36:48Speaker 3: The television show was aspired to be that and ABC
- 36:53Speaker 3: was like, we don't like it. And when we moved
- 36:56Speaker 3: to UPN, it became something great you want to laugh at.
- 37:03Speaker 1: No, I haven't heard the term of UPN in so long.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Some of our listeners probably don't know yet, Like.
- 37:10Speaker 2: What the fuck is the UPN?
- 37:12Speaker 3: But when it moved, it became like a completely different
- 37:15Speaker 3: show and these kids were dealing with stuff like Arnold
- 37:19Speaker 3: Jackson and and and uh and and sitcom World.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Right, it became way broader.
- 37:24Speaker 3: It became way broader, and all of a sudden, it
- 37:27Speaker 3: wasn't as you know, it wasn't clueless anymore.
- 37:30Speaker 2: It was called the uthing else.
- 37:31Speaker 1: UPN also didn't have the budget that ABC had, right,
- 37:34Speaker 1: so probably had a.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Pretty good budget.
- 37:36Speaker 3: I mean, we were I was on that the at
- 37:38Speaker 3: a time when Moesha was on when you know what
- 37:41Speaker 3: I mean, like there were a bunch of Buffy the
- 37:42Speaker 3: Vampire Slayer. All of the UPN and the w B
- 37:45Speaker 3: were kind of like the or yeah, the w B, right,
- 37:48Speaker 3: that's what it was, kind of like the same thing.
- 37:50Speaker 3: And then they merged and became the c W c
- 37:54Speaker 3: W I think that's the c W, right.
- 37:56Speaker 1: But were UPN?
- 38:00Speaker 2: You used to have so many names for that network.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Man, what did you call it?
- 38:04Speaker 2: I don't want to say it because there were a
- 38:10Speaker 2: lot of black people. There were a lot of black
- 38:12Speaker 2: people on up IN, and they called it let's just
- 38:17Speaker 2: put it that.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Way, Okay, we'll beat that. Wow. I didn't know that.
- 38:26Speaker 1: But UPN I'm sure had a different tone than ABC.
- 38:30Speaker 5: Uh.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yeah, they would just starting remember when Fox first came
- 38:33Speaker 3: out and how Fox was the network Fox.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:36Speaker 2: A lot of y'all are too young to remember that,
- 38:38Speaker 2: but I.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Remember it was like early yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Right, So it was like the programming was so risque.
- 38:45Speaker 3: I guess you would is the terms you would use,
- 38:47Speaker 3: like we.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Had to show for Fox.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they were trying to push the envelope on UPN.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Also, there was a show on that network where they
- 38:53Speaker 3: had a man.
- 38:54Speaker 2: It was a.
- 38:56Speaker 3: It was a show that took place during slavery, and
- 39:00Speaker 3: in an opening scene they had a walk and talk
- 39:04Speaker 3: with two people walking and a black man hanging in
- 39:08Speaker 3: a tree as they walk by.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Oh my god, damn.
- 39:11Speaker 5: They said, we're starting of tough get in there.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Wow is this on early UPN?
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yeah? That show was canceled, like right away, I'll never
- 39:20Speaker 2: forget that shit. Let's take a break.
- 39:21Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words. All right,
- 39:31Speaker 1: let's get back to Scrubs Season nine, episode five. So
- 39:35Speaker 1: he gets the anonymous negative review. JD tells Turk that
- 39:40Speaker 1: Eagles are played out, which is true. Enough of the eagling, I.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Think, are you fucking on crack man?
- 39:45Speaker 1: Listen? I know the audience loves eagling and I like
- 39:48Speaker 1: to eagle.
- 39:49Speaker 2: When I get to fucking eagle.
- 39:51Speaker 1: You never get to eagle your too.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I sometimes get to eagle.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Who eagles you?
- 39:56Speaker 2: I got to eagle at like a comic con type
- 39:58Speaker 2: situation where I was.
- 40:00Speaker 1: You got was? It? Was it a large man who
- 40:02Speaker 1: has big muscles, very strong, because.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I was like, and I was like, I don't want
- 40:07Speaker 2: to get on your back, and he was like, just
- 40:08Speaker 2: do it for God. Back out now. He was big
- 40:12Speaker 2: and he helped me up, and I'm.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Oh, so well, listen, I don't know if there's a reboot.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Do you clinch your knees together when you eagle?
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yes, you have to. You have to get a good grip.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I should teach a course and how to eagle properly.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and how to say eagle too. Well, now people
- 40:36Speaker 3: use it in the wrong way. People like I would
- 40:38Speaker 3: love it if we could do the eagle.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Well, no, you don't do the I don't know if
- 40:45Speaker 1: we should egle. If we do a reboot, it feels.
- 40:48Speaker 2: You're on crack. Are you serious?
- 40:51Speaker 1: I don't think we should do it.
- 40:52Speaker 2: They want us to eagle and T mobile commercials. You
- 40:55Speaker 2: don't want an eagle, dude.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I just think that eagling is is something. I just
- 41:06Speaker 1: think that eagling is.
- 41:10Speaker 7: Me.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I don't know, Joelle. Do you think if we do
- 41:13Speaker 1: a reboot of Scrubs that it would be it would
- 41:15Speaker 1: be okay for us to forego eagling.
- 41:18Speaker 5: No, I don't think it would get on his back
- 41:23Speaker 5: an eagle for us?
- 41:24Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 41:27Speaker 1: They're like, look, give the people what they want. I
- 41:29Speaker 1: guess that would be.
- 41:30Speaker 3: The dopest eagle left. That would have been a dope eagle.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I have to make the back of Jason Momoa.
- 41:35Speaker 2: E double eagle, double eagle eagle.
- 41:41Speaker 1: We'll have to do a bit about it where we're like,
- 41:45Speaker 1: like both of our backs hurt and I'm like, hold
- 41:47Speaker 1: on his step stool to get on you.
- 41:50Speaker 2: You know, I would love to eagle.
- 41:53Speaker 1: I was thinking, me so funny, Did I tell you
- 41:55Speaker 1: this about my idea for how the reboot.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Would open where you're flying on an eagle.
- 42:00Speaker 1: No where, It's like, you totally do a an homage
- 42:04Speaker 1: to the first episode of Scrubs, you know when JD
- 42:08Speaker 1: hits the alarm and then he hops out of bed
- 42:10Speaker 1: and remember didn't we talk.
- 42:12Speaker 5: About this, Yeah, we did talk about ideas.
- 42:15Speaker 1: The idea is that He's got like a seapap on
- 42:17Speaker 1: and he's like he's like back hurts. As he gets
- 42:19Speaker 1: out of bed. You look over and Elliott's got like
- 42:22Speaker 1: a night gear on, like a you know, like because
- 42:24Speaker 1: she's like, you know, snores or something. I mean, I
- 42:27Speaker 1: don't know, like like total contrasts. And then and then
- 42:29Speaker 1: he gets to the mirror. Instead of like putting a
- 42:32Speaker 1: shaving cream all over my chest, I'm like so exhausted
- 42:35Speaker 1: and I'm like really bored shaving, and like, you know,
- 42:38Speaker 1: JD's just become like a tired You know.
- 42:41Speaker 3: That that would be an actual great moment to use
- 42:44Speaker 3: the mirror as what had what's happened in the last
- 42:48Speaker 3: few years, also what's.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Happened in the last you know what I mean.
- 42:52Speaker 3: He goes to the mirror and as he's shaving or
- 42:54Speaker 3: whatever it is, you can see in his reflection everything
- 42:57Speaker 3: that's happened. So the audience catches up and now we
- 43:00Speaker 3: understand why we're back at a hospital with everybody again.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Right, get you could do that, or you could also
- 43:06Speaker 1: have the original JD from the pilot in the mirror
- 43:08Speaker 1: and he's like looking at his young self being like
- 43:10Speaker 1: what's become of me?
- 43:12Speaker 2: Right, does that too, here's.
- 43:14Speaker 1: No joy left in his life?
- 43:17Speaker 3: How come everybody gets cynical as they get older? How
- 43:20Speaker 3: come everybody?
- 43:21Speaker 2: How come?
- 43:22Speaker 3: How why does wisdom seem to freaking promote cynicism?
- 43:27Speaker 2: Like or you know what I mean? Like, why is that?
- 43:30Speaker 3: Why the more knowledge I get, the more pessimism I.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Feel towards the world and stuff?
- 43:37Speaker 5: Like?
- 43:38Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 43:39Speaker 5: Because you've experienced the.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Negative experienced When you're a child, you're just so wide
- 43:43Speaker 1: eyed and you don't know what you don't know. And
- 43:46Speaker 1: then as you grow and you experience heartache and loss
- 43:49Speaker 1: and grief and financial strain and worry about providing for
- 43:54Speaker 1: your family and all these things, it's sort of like
- 43:57Speaker 1: it's sort of like mud accumulating on a on a windshield,
- 44:01Speaker 1: and by the time you're forty nine years old, it's
- 44:05Speaker 1: hard to see through that windshield, and so there's things
- 44:08Speaker 1: we can all do to clean off that windshield. But
- 44:11Speaker 1: I think that's what came up for me when you
- 44:13Speaker 1: said that, is like you're operating with all of this,
- 44:17Speaker 1: with all of this mud on your windshield.
- 44:20Speaker 3: That's a great that's a great way to put it.
- 44:22Speaker 3: But it feels like it feels like that we see
- 44:25Speaker 3: it in the television show. You just described it in
- 44:28Speaker 3: the opening of the new series Scrubs. You know what
- 44:30Speaker 3: I mean, It just seems like that's always.
- 44:33Speaker 1: What I was thinking, Like, you know, a young, joyful
- 44:37Speaker 1: twenty something who has his first day as an intern.
- 44:40Speaker 1: He just has so much excitement at him. He doesn't
- 44:42Speaker 1: he can't believe he got here, doesn't it. And then
- 44:45Speaker 1: after twenty five years of dealing with the stress and
- 44:51Speaker 1: insurance companies and death and loss and the trouble in
- 44:54Speaker 1: his marriage, and you know, I'm just making shit up,
- 44:58Speaker 1: But you know, it's a different pint of view. It's
- 45:00Speaker 1: someone who's weathered a lot of storms.
- 45:03Speaker 3: It's an interesting show, especially because we know the characters already.
- 45:06Speaker 1: You know, I think that's what would make a reboot better.
- 45:09Speaker 1: To be honest, that's what it would interest me, would be.
- 45:13Speaker 1: And this isn't labn't said this to Bill, although I will.
- 45:16Speaker 1: But to me, what makes interesting is like exactly what
- 45:18Speaker 1: you just said, Don was like, it's still a comedy,
- 45:21Speaker 1: of course, but it's coming from someone who's lived a
- 45:24Speaker 1: lot of life and see and had a lot of
- 45:27Speaker 1: ups and downs, and he's no longer that wide eyed
- 45:30Speaker 1: kid who can't believe he's got this experience. He's someone
- 45:33Speaker 1: who's who maybe has lost some joy in his life,
- 45:36Speaker 1: and maybe through coming back together with the community of
- 45:40Speaker 1: the people that love that he loved so much and
- 45:42Speaker 1: reminds him of the joy in his life. Maybe that's
- 45:44Speaker 1: what the premise of the show could be, is in
- 45:47Speaker 1: reuniting with these seven people or so that he that
- 45:50Speaker 1: he remembered such joy with some of that joy comes
- 45:54Speaker 1: back into his life and cleans off his proverbial wind screen.
- 45:59Speaker 3: It's just like I said in the beginning of the show,
- 46:02Speaker 3: it's always Star Wars, Baby, it always goes back to
- 46:05Speaker 3: fantasy at the end of the day, when.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Did you get Star Wars?
- 46:10Speaker 3: Because Yoda at the end of he goes off because
- 46:14Speaker 3: of his experience and and all of the stuff. He
- 46:17Speaker 3: exiles himself. Luke Skywalker exiles himself. All of these people
- 46:23Speaker 3: exile himself, and it's just something that that's one thing
- 46:26Speaker 3: that brings them back, and it's something from their past,
- 46:28Speaker 3: whether it be Luke Skywalker, whether it be Ray with
- 46:33Speaker 3: the with the with the message that his you know
- 46:35Speaker 3: that Princess Leiah needs him. It always brings the hero,
- 46:40Speaker 3: the dude who we started the hero's journey with back
- 46:44Speaker 3: into purpose, and I feel like, you know, that's a
- 46:49Speaker 3: great idea. I think that's no matter, it always works,
- 46:52Speaker 3: but I think that's a great way to bring j
- 46:54Speaker 3: D back into this whole situation.
- 46:57Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 46:59Speaker 5: Is Doctor Cox's journey the first time the first time around?
- 47:03Speaker 7: Mm hmm.
- 47:04Speaker 5: If you have this guy who's so beat up by
- 47:07Speaker 5: life of his crazy parents, his relationship fell apart, he's
- 47:11Speaker 5: unhappy with the institution he's in, and then this kid
- 47:13Speaker 5: comes into his life and sort of ree sparks and
- 47:16Speaker 5: reimagines all of this like beauty he has for his job,
- 47:19Speaker 5: so that at the very end of season eight, anyway,
- 47:21Speaker 5: we get to see into this future where he's part
- 47:24Speaker 5: of this kid's family and they spend holidays together and stuff.
- 47:27Speaker 3: That's another story right there. What the fuck was doctor
- 47:30Speaker 3: Cox like as an intern when he was a student.
- 47:34Speaker 2: What's that story? Who would play who would play Johnny?
- 47:38Speaker 2: Who would play Kelso? Who would play Jordan? Like? These
- 47:41Speaker 2: are stories that are all there ready for the freaking taking.
- 47:46Speaker 3: If Scrubs comes back and trust Yellowstone shit or that,
- 47:50Speaker 3: you know, we could go.
- 47:50Speaker 2: I don't want to Stone.
- 47:51Speaker 1: We're not gonna do like young Kelso. I mean, we're gonna,
- 47:54Speaker 1: you know, if we do it, we're gonna do.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Like young Kelso. Sounds funny though, Young Sheldon Young Kelso.
- 48:00Speaker 1: God, all right, I don't think somebody. I don't think
- 48:03Speaker 1: you and I. I don't think you and I are
- 48:05Speaker 1: in Young.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Kelso executive producer on it. Let's take a break.
- 48:09Speaker 1: We're a break and we come back. We are gonna
- 48:11Speaker 1: finish talking about the television show scrubb zach As Zacha
- 48:17Speaker 1: love you. She really does, Yeah, she does.
- 48:29Speaker 2: And we're back because you're a dick.
- 48:32Speaker 1: She's such a good wife. You really married well I did?
- 48:35Speaker 2: All right?
- 48:36Speaker 1: All right, Sonny Sonny is back and uh is this
- 48:41Speaker 1: Sonny's first appearance in season nine?
- 48:43Speaker 5: Yes? I think.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Okay, So Sonny's back and she wants to go on
- 48:48Speaker 1: a date with her boyfriend. And there's this whole power
- 48:51Speaker 1: play between Denise and Drew. Cox puts in her head
- 48:56Speaker 1: that you know, our relationship is her. She's being dominated
- 49:01Speaker 1: by Drew and the Drew is winning and he's controlling
- 49:03Speaker 1: the relationship. Okay, and then we learned that Barry Friedman
- 49:11Speaker 1: and when we do our hunting, it is the person
- 49:13Speaker 1: who uh perhaps gave you the bad review gave us
- 49:18Speaker 1: the bad review.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Because there rs kind of look alike.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Turk loves the magnifying glass.
- 49:24Speaker 2: That he made JD buy.
- 49:27Speaker 1: And they knock on Barry's They knock on Barry's door,
- 49:31Speaker 1: and this is sort of a copy of the first
- 49:35Speaker 1: episode I directed when We're looking for Heather Graham, because
- 49:39Speaker 1: we knock on the mysterious door and kelto Kelso answers, yeah.
- 49:45Speaker 2: He's he's taken over Barry's room.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Barry was We find out that Barry hasn't been in
- 49:51Speaker 3: school since the first couple of weeks and he washed out,
- 49:55Speaker 3: and Kelso took his room and has been using it
- 49:58Speaker 3: as his sex pad because he kid because having sex
- 50:02Speaker 3: in the same bed that he had sex within it
- 50:06Speaker 3: in gives him the softies.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Right, And he says, come on in, you're letting all
- 50:11Speaker 1: the funk.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Out, meaning he's smoking that ship he got that gas?
- 50:15Speaker 3: Really he got that gas?
- 50:16Speaker 1: Does that mean that does that mean that he was
- 50:19Speaker 1: letting he was smoking gonzo or does.
- 50:21Speaker 2: It mean that he It ain't the sex funk, it's.
- 50:24Speaker 1: The guy thought It meant like the smell of nobody
- 50:27Speaker 1: else who.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Had a person that where the fun where where where?
- 50:32Speaker 1: She may have just left thirty seconds before they knocked.
- 50:34Speaker 1: We don't know.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Sure.
- 50:37Speaker 3: I took it as this motherfuckers smoking weed. He's not
- 50:40Speaker 3: a doctor anymore. He smokes weed. He freaking teaches classes,
- 50:45Speaker 3: he's living the best life.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Okay, well he's getting high in the dorm room. And
- 50:50Speaker 1: there it is. Yeah, I'm he says, I'm working the
- 50:54Speaker 1: case right now, and I am this close to cracking
- 50:56Speaker 1: and open.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Right this is when? So so that was.
- 51:05Speaker 1: JD is like sew into being a detective of us.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yeah, watched it.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Really And I had a moment, dude where I was
- 51:12Speaker 1: like kind of stoked about watching you and I'm being detectives.
- 51:17Speaker 1: I guess that's what psych is.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, it's it's us. It's us as detectives.
- 51:23Speaker 1: It's us as detectives.
- 51:24Speaker 2: But it's stars. But it's stars two different people.
- 51:27Speaker 1: I know.
- 51:28Speaker 2: But is there?
- 51:28Speaker 1: Not D, I've never watched psych?
- 51:30Speaker 2: Is there?
- 51:31Speaker 1: Is there? A? Is there? What is the what is
- 51:34Speaker 1: psych about?
- 51:34Speaker 2: What is I've never watched it in my life? Friends,
- 51:37Speaker 2: and I've never watched psych.
- 51:39Speaker 3: Fabulous, Sure we should rewatch watch everybody. Everybody says to
- 51:44Speaker 3: every all the time you and Zach should have guest
- 51:47Speaker 3: starred on Psych.
- 51:48Speaker 5: I'm like, get the fabulous gut starts. Here's the thing.
- 51:51Speaker 5: It's a white guy and a start on scrubs.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Y'all can eat a dick?
- 52:00Speaker 1: Was in the Psych?
- 52:01Speaker 2: You, Sae Joe.
- 52:02Speaker 3: I'm not shuying you directly, such.
- 52:06Speaker 1: A hoe for being other TV?
- 52:10Speaker 2: Your mother yea psych? Yeah?
- 52:12Speaker 1: What else? She's always fucking somebody other, some other jewish
- 52:17Speaker 1: looking TV character's girlfriend. And I'm pissed off about it.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Don't be mad, all right, Joell? What is psych about it?
- 52:25Speaker 1: In a nutshell? Please?
- 52:27Speaker 5: Okay? This a black friend and a white friend. A
- 52:29Speaker 5: white friend is a great detective. He's fabulous, but his
- 52:33Speaker 5: dad's a detective. He doesn't like his dad, so he
- 52:35Speaker 5: doesn't want to follow in his shoes, so instead he
- 52:37Speaker 5: pretends to be a psychic detective so to help solve
- 52:40Speaker 5: crimes without becoming a part of the hooly unit his
- 52:42Speaker 5: father is a part of. His best friend tags along
- 52:45Speaker 5: to try to be the grounding element when he goes off.
- 52:48Speaker 5: And it's crazy and they have all kinds of crazy
- 52:51Speaker 5: hijinks and adventures and it's amazing. If you like people
- 52:55Speaker 5: with photographic memories. He has one frequently he'll be like,
- 52:57Speaker 5: oh yeah, I'll do the Detective TV thing. He touches
- 53:00Speaker 5: his forehead, He's like, I remember, and then you get
- 53:01Speaker 5: a black and white flashback other thing you saw sc
- 53:04Speaker 5: that's the Scrubs flash. It's so good, guys. It's super
- 53:09Speaker 5: funny and delightful. There are so many episodes. It's like
- 53:12Speaker 5: trying to do react to the last year, Like there
- 53:14Speaker 5: are just simply too many episodes, but there are mostly great,
- 53:17Speaker 5: and they keep doing movies.
- 53:18Speaker 1: They've done like three movies because.
- 53:20Speaker 5: It's so good.
- 53:22Speaker 3: This thing, actually, this thing actually was was actually like
- 53:26Speaker 3: like I get this a lot whenever I take pictures
- 53:30Speaker 3: with Doulay or whenever in Deulay, and like I've known
- 53:33Speaker 3: Delay since we were kids, and that's my connection. But
- 53:35Speaker 3: everybody's connection to me and Doulay is pretty much we
- 53:39Speaker 3: pretty much played the same character, but in two different worlds, you.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Know what I mean?
- 53:43Speaker 1: Really, all right, let's keep going. Uh, let's see, uh
- 53:48Speaker 1: Lucy gives j D puppy dog.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Guys, and he falls for it.
- 53:52Speaker 1: He falls for it. Perry wrote the bad review we
- 53:55Speaker 1: learned and just as it, by the way, then the
- 53:57Speaker 1: balloons drop This not a second commercial break? Did you
- 54:00Speaker 1: guys notice that that isn't the norm?
- 54:04Speaker 5: I thought there was a weird set up with.
- 54:06Speaker 1: A strange it had a weird second commercial break.
- 54:10Speaker 3: How do you feel about commercials, guys? To be honest,
- 54:12Speaker 3: would you prefer commercials not existed or would you prefer that?
- 54:16Speaker 1: You to add, I wouldn't want to watch a commercial break.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I'd rather pay for a streaming service without commercials.
- 54:24Speaker 2: I don't mind commercials.
- 54:25Speaker 5: It depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes I'm not
- 54:27Speaker 5: trying to think, and it's commercial just except the amount
- 54:30Speaker 5: of time I don't have to be thinking. But if
- 54:32Speaker 5: I'm into a show like oh man, we had a
- 54:34Speaker 5: friend's place watching Shogun and they didn't have no commercial Hulu,
- 54:38Speaker 5: so here we are, well, I know.
- 54:42Speaker 3: It was it a commercial break at the time where
- 54:44Speaker 3: you need where it was like a dun dunt like
- 54:46Speaker 3: I like a perfect set.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Right. I think that's kind of cool. There's something cool.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I don't like commercials. Everybody all right? So Cox confronts JD.
- 54:58Speaker 1: These fucking kids need tough low of you know, gives
- 55:01Speaker 1: him a whole lesson. He's back to giving JD lessons,
- 55:04Speaker 1: this time about being a teacher. Denise decides not to
- 55:09Speaker 1: steal from Drew, so that means that she's in a relationship.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he was part of the show right now, if
- 55:16Speaker 2: you ask, adorable.
- 55:17Speaker 1: And as I always say each each episode of this podcast,
- 55:21Speaker 1: Michael Mosley is the most grounded person in the show.
- 55:26Speaker 1: JD doesn't show up for Lucy on purpose because Cox
- 55:29Speaker 1: got to his head. And there's a fantasy where she
- 55:32Speaker 1: imagines roller skating with JD. And he's dressed as a
- 55:35Speaker 1: needle and I guess this has been Scrubs. What he
- 55:40Speaker 1: said that needle has been in an episode of Scrubs
- 55:42Speaker 1: before the needle costume, I don't remember. And then then
- 55:47Speaker 1: they decide they're going to do a big, fucking massive
- 55:50Speaker 1: super Eagle and they tell all the kids that the
- 55:53Speaker 1: cast of Twilight is in the quad.
- 55:55Speaker 2: Do you remember that day? Yeah?
- 55:57Speaker 1: I do remember that day.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Do you remember who was watching us from the balcony
- 56:00Speaker 3: that day?
- 56:02Speaker 1: Tim Burton?
- 56:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 56:04Speaker 1: Yeah, shut up?
- 56:06Speaker 5: What was watching you guys do super Eagles? In the
- 56:08Speaker 5: parking lot?
- 56:09Speaker 1: I think he was cutting? Do you remember what movie
- 56:11Speaker 1: was cutting? Was?
- 56:12Speaker 2: Sure?
- 56:12Speaker 1: Maybe Alice in Wonderland? Would that line up twenty ten.
- 56:16Speaker 5: Then els Whener comes out twenty eleven, I think.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Wow, Joelle, you might have that photographic memory thing that that.
- 56:23Speaker 5: A movie theater in twenty eleven. I remember.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Tim Burton was working on the same lot cutting a
- 56:30Speaker 1: movie I think was Alice in Wonderland, and we were
- 56:33Speaker 1: all doing that Super Eagle and I think we all
- 56:35Speaker 1: looked up and Tim Burton was watching a Super Eagle.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:41Speaker 1: And then Kelso sells Cole viagra as the tag.
- 56:46Speaker 2: That's a good drug dealer right there.
- 56:48Speaker 1: I don't know why Cole needs viagra, but he's curious
- 56:52Speaker 1: about having some, and he scores some from Kelso.
- 56:55Speaker 5: We have an airport bar control for women together. What
- 56:58Speaker 5: a nightmare?
- 56:59Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's wait, hold up, I got to
- 57:03Speaker 3: talk about airport bars. I was just recently in an
- 57:06Speaker 3: airport bar. I was traveling go ahead, and I asked,
- 57:10Speaker 3: are their regulars? And I don't mean people that fly
- 57:13Speaker 3: in and out? I mean people that just come to
- 57:15Speaker 3: the bar at the airport.
- 57:18Speaker 1: But how do you get past security if you're going
- 57:19Speaker 1: to an airport, I mean before security?
- 57:21Speaker 2: Yeah? Yes, And they were like, yeah, that actually is
- 57:27Speaker 2: a thing.
- 57:27Speaker 3: There are quite a few people that frequent the Burbank
- 57:31Speaker 3: Airport and drink.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Like cheers and then go home.
- 57:39Speaker 1: That's really sad.
- 57:40Speaker 2: That's so sad.
- 57:45Speaker 1: I don't know why I feel sad for them, but
- 57:46Speaker 1: I do.
- 57:47Speaker 3: I when I heard that, I was like, holy shit,
- 57:52Speaker 3: the drinks aren't that good?
- 57:55Speaker 5: What were you?
- 57:57Speaker 3: I was having a bloody Mary at the time, and
- 57:59Speaker 3: I was like, this ain't the best blay. I wouldn't travel.
- 58:03Speaker 1: You wouldn't travel to Burbank for that bloody Mary.
- 58:06Speaker 3: I wouldn't travel from the Burbank okay, for there were
- 58:11Speaker 3: serving at the Burbank airport.
- 58:13Speaker 1: All right. On that note, Joelle, do you have any
- 58:16Speaker 1: people that want to weigh in on Scrubs Season nine,
- 58:19Speaker 1: episode five.
- 58:21Speaker 5: We have two voicemails. One is the review. You can
- 58:25Speaker 5: play that one first dannel. That would be awesome, and
- 58:28Speaker 5: the second one will let that be a surprise.
- 58:31Speaker 9: I hope it's Tamika, Joel, Daniel, Zach and Donald. My
- 58:35Speaker 9: name is Katie. I'm calling in from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I'm
- 58:39Speaker 9: watching Scrub season nine for the first time ever. I
- 58:42Speaker 9: really could never bring myself to watch it when it
- 58:44Speaker 9: originally aired, and I've always skipped it in my rewatches.
- 58:47Speaker 9: My biggest issue, and I'll discuss this specifically in regards
- 58:51Speaker 9: to season nine, episode five, is that we seem to
- 58:54Speaker 9: have lost all traces of this being one of the
- 58:56Speaker 9: most medically accurate shows on television. To have an opinion
- 59:01Speaker 9: on medical accuracy, I know that's what you're thinking, and
- 59:03Speaker 9: that's a great question. My husband completed medical school, residency
- 59:07Speaker 9: and anesthesiology, and is currently doing a fellowship in regional
- 59:10Speaker 9: anesthesia and acute pain Medicine. I've been by his side
- 59:14Speaker 9: every step of the way, and anyone who's been on
- 59:16Speaker 9: this journey knows that the spouse goes through it just
- 59:18Speaker 9: as much as the doctor. As a side note, my
- 59:20Speaker 9: husband was an intern at the start of COVID when
- 59:22Speaker 9: your podcast started. It was a lot for us to
- 59:24Speaker 9: take on, and your podcast was a huge support for
- 59:27Speaker 9: me during that time. My oldest child was actually born
- 59:30Speaker 9: on Joelle's birthday, October first, in twenty twenty. Anyways, I
- 59:34Speaker 9: digress to set the stage for season nine, episode five.
- 59:38Speaker 9: According to JD at the top of the episode, we're
- 59:41Speaker 9: now six weeks into medical school. Under no circumstances would
- 59:45Speaker 9: a student who has completed only six weeks of medical
- 59:48Speaker 9: school be doing any type of procedure on live patients.
- 59:52Speaker 9: Drew and the crash cart in episode three. This really
- 59:55Speaker 9: pushed me over the edge, and I knew that I
- 59:56Speaker 9: had to send in a review for you. Medical students
- 1:00:00Speaker 9: are not interns. They would not be drawing blood. This
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: is a skill learned much later. Drew wouldn't be walking
- 1:00:06Speaker 9: around the hospital grabbing medical files off the counter to
- 1:00:09Speaker 9: go see a patient. That really bothered me when he
- 1:00:12Speaker 9: did that as he was talking to Joe Denise, and
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: it seems to just have lost the authenticity that the
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: original eight seasons had. Besides that, JD is just still
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: so needy. At the end of season eight, we see
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: a beautiful montage of JD Elliott, doctor Cox, and Jordan
- 1:00:31Speaker 9: Turk and Carla. Their relationship has grown and they've become
- 1:00:34Speaker 9: more like a family than just coworkers. Season nine seems
- 1:00:38Speaker 9: to disregard that entirely. All of the character growth for
- 1:00:40Speaker 9: JD over the eight years totally crumbles as he reverts
- 1:00:44Speaker 9: to striving for everyone's approval all the time. Searching for
- 1:00:47Speaker 9: the author of his negative evaluation is just so unethical.
- 1:00:52Speaker 9: It's just not the spot we left him. At the
- 1:00:54Speaker 9: end of season eight, I was also disappointed in the
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: joke he made about the deaf student in his class.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: This was just insensitive and not funny. The Hardy Boys
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: book covers did make me laugh, and I liked the
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: old school shenanigans between JD and Turk. I just can't
- 1:01:07Speaker 9: appreciate it as much within the context of this greater
- 1:01:10Speaker 9: character degradation. We've left the world of realism and turned
- 1:01:13Speaker 9: the whole foundation of the show into a farce. Thank
- 1:01:16Speaker 9: you for letting me speak my piece. I love your
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: show and hope you all have a great day.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: We've left the world of realism for a farce. I mean,
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: she said it better than we've been trying to say it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: I've been stuttering and stuttering and stammering and stumbling trying
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: to say exactly that.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Yeah, well she did a very good job. And you're right, Katie, Right, Katie,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: everything you said is accurate, and yeah, we agree, we agree.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: There's got to be somebody out there that's like, all.
- 1:01:48Speaker 11: Of you are fucking wrong. This is the best television
- 1:01:51Speaker 11: I've ever seen in my life, and all of you
- 1:01:54Speaker 11: deserved Emmys, and fucking it's got to be some I'm inferring.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I'm in deferring that Joelle is having trouble finding those people.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: There's not as many of them. We will have some
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: more positive reviews coming up in the your future. I
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: did want to end this episode on a positive note,
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: so why don't we go ahead and play our second
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: voice note really quickly.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: I hope it's the couple that allow the woman to
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: have sex with the friend.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: Do you get me too? Please be back, please come back.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: I have a feeling it's not okay.
- 1:02:33Speaker 12: There's a new doctor in town and he's ready to
- 1:02:37Speaker 12: get down. Prest In in Journal Medicine, paint on the
- 1:02:43Speaker 12: take your last mistake because you say your HMO about
- 1:02:49Speaker 12: his bed.
- 1:02:59Speaker 8: As a matter of.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: That was fire.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: That's what our good friend Travis, he heard us shout
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: about on the pod and he was like, I have
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: this one that's been in the chamber for a while.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: I wanted to share it with you guys, and I
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: was like, this really lifted my spirits.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: That's amazing. Damn I need that for the sound I
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: need that for my soundboard.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: I'll set it over.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I just need the hook, doctor Ala and the horns.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Doctor dark Cula.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Thank you, Travis, Travis, we really appreciate that. Wow, I
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: that was great. I was a bop much appreciate it.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Tea Fresh, I love a nice BOPO we love a bob.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: How you guys been listening to Beyonce's Country.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: It's amazing, real good. I'm gonna say something right now, Zach.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna say something right now.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Howbody calm down, Zach?
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: I can't. I cannot calm down and listen? Oh my right,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Oh god.
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: I listened to her every the first thing I do
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: in the morning, as I say and hit play on
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: America Let's Go. I listened to it no lesson three
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: times a day every day since it came out. I
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: am absolutely obsessed. Almost off book. I've almost memorized now
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: getting into harmonies, been in the harmonies.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: The song she does with Miley Cyrus to.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Most most want is Fire. That one.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: With Miley Cyrus.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, harmonized.
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: You don't know Thelma and Louise of song because each
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: song is based off of a movie. This is definitely
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: the Thelma and Louise track.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Bodyguard is Fire, Bodyguard? Everybody else?
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: A Deeke produced the hell out of Bodyguard.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Oh my god, freaking projector Fire projector.
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: Protector made me. I send it to my mom Immediately,
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: I was like, this is how you love me like
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: a baby, a baby.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: It's rare, it's rare good.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: It's the really spaghetti. When she brings out the rap,
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: I said, you have to do this to us. She
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: sings opera? Is that she sings opera?
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: And my favorite, you know, my favorite song on the
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: whole record is do you tell me.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: Come here?
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: You pretty little thing like Levi's jeans, that is fire,
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: turn you on?
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: You know all this shall change the logo to the
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: two US.
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: It's perfect, It's divine.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: Is it doing well in hole? This woman went out
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: and did her research. Not only is she coming into
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: country as an artist, but she's coming with the knowledge
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: of everything that's came in the past, all the black
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: knowledge too, and she'd bring in the white knowledge.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Also. She's not turning her back on.
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: Anybody, turning back on anybody.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: Blackbird is so beautiful.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: A country song that's a fucking country song.
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: On the country Apple iTunes. She's the first black woman
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: to hit number one and no I'm sorry, the first
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: person in America with a country album to hit number
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: one on the UK charts. It's doing very good everything.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: The first black outist ever have a number one record
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: on the country charts.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Question was is the country community embracing It's a mixed bag.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: It's a mixed bag. I think there's definitely a segment
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: of the country community who was like, this isn't country
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: and I don't want it. They were overturned pretty quickly
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: as as far as people like calling into country radios
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: and requesting the songs. Eventually they had to capitown and
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: be like, it is country and we will play it. Uh,
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: it's weird and foolish. I think for anyone to be
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: like Beyonce of the Deep South, Texas and by way
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: of Louisiana can't hold down this genre. I think she
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: killed it.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: But yeah, you know, it all comes. It all stems
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: from when she did that song with the Dixie Chicks, Samtis.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: When it comes to Beyonce, you have that skill where
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: you can remember anything, any date that happened.
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: Oh yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: But but it was you could tell by watching the
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: audience this young lady's on stage killing it, you know,
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: like literally on stage giving a great performance. And there
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: were certain people in the audience who didn't appreciate the
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: fact that a black woman was singing a black pop
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: star was singing their music.
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: Or that she brought their outlaws. They kicked the Dixie
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: Chicks out and she said, I'm bringing them back with me.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and she brought the Outlaws with her, right, that's
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: what The Dixie Chicks should change their name to the Outlaws.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: But hold on, We're not done.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: Are not?
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: We're not done.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Everybody likes a little ass flay, don't even act like
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: you don't. But they were hating on her, and that's
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: where this album comes from. The album comes from. You know,
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: it would have been different if people would have been like, yo, yo,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: come on through, everybody's welcome. But instead she got a
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: lot of pushback and it showed up again.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: Man, I'm a Beyonce fan. I can't lie. Look at you.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: I sound like a hive behive, freaking like, how can
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: I don't get it?
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: Man?
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: Like if Beyonce was like, I'm gonna save Star Wars,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I'd be.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Like, go save it, then show me what it is.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Like.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: This ever country ain't never seen nothing. Not only a
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: country people buying it, but everybody else.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Is to they ain't never seen.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: In house arrest.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: I can't wait.
