- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here with me. How's it going? Luna: Hey Lucas, doing great. You know, after all those night market episodes, I'm craving some snacks. But today, we're doing something a bit different. Lucas: That's right. Today we're heading to the train station. We're gonna learn how to buy a ticket in Cantonese. And I just want to say, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with this language, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. You can buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It really makes a difference. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps us keep doing this. And honestly, we love making these episodes. Okay, so let's get to the station. Lucas: Alright, so you're at the station, you're at the ticket counter, and you want to buy a ticket. The basic phrase is: 我想買一張票. That means 'I want to buy one ticket', right? Lucas: Exactly. 我 means 'I', 想 means 'want to', 買 means 'buy', 一張 is 'one', and 票 is 'ticket'. Luna: So if I need two tickets, I'd say Lucas: Perfect, Luna. You just swapped in 兩 for 'two'. So 我想買兩張票 is 'I want to buy two tickets'. Great job. Luna: Okay, so I'm at the counter, I say that, and then they'll tell me the price. So how do I ask how much? That's 'How much is one ticket?' literally 'one ticket how much money'. Hmm, that's a bit of a mouthful, but I'll try. Lucas: You got it. And if you want to say 'to Central' because that's where you're going, you add that after the ticket part. But that's a bit more advanced. Let's keep it simple today. Luna: Okay, so I'll just stick with the basics. So I say 我想買一張票, then they might say the price, and then I can say 多謝 for 'thank you'. Lucas: That's right. 多謝 is the polite way to say thank you. Let's practice a small scenario. You walk up to the counter and say: 唔該,我想買一張票. Luna: 唔該,我想買一張票. Hey, I remember 唔該 from the convenience store episode. It's like 'excuse me' or 'please'. Lucas: Exactly. Then the agent says: 去邊度? That's 'where to?' Luna: 去邊度? So I'd say 去中環 or something. But wait, we taught 去中環 earlier. Should I use that? Lucas: Sure, if you're going to Central. So the exchange goes: You say Then you say 多謝. Luna: Okay, let me try that. Ah, I mixed it up. That's 'how much is one ticket?' not 'here's where I'm going'. Lucas: You're doing great. Don't worry about mixing it up. So the full exchange: You say They say 五十蚊. You can then say 一張票幾多錢 if you want to confirm, or just pay and say 多謝. Luna: Okay, 一張票幾多錢 is a good question to have. So let's review all our phrases. Lucas: Yes, and then 我想買兩張票 for two tickets. Luna: And 一張票幾多錢 to ask the price. Lucas: And don't forget 多謝 for thank you. And you can add 去中環 to say you're going to Central. So you might say Luna: That's a lot. But I think I've got it. Let me try a full scenario. I walk up and say: 唔該,我想買一張去中環嘅票. They say: 五十蚊. Oh no, why did I ask that if they already told me? Lucas: That's actually a good way to confirm. You can ask again to be sure. But usually you'd just pay. So you say: 多謝. And that's it. Luna: Okay, 多謝. So simple. I love that. Alright, let's do a quick recap. Lucas: Perfect. And remember, you can change the destination. Instead of 中環, you could say 旺角 or 尖沙咀. But we'll keep it to Central today. Luna: Great. So now I feel ready to buy a ticket in Cantonese. Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners for joining us. Don't forget to practice these phrases. See you next time! Lucas: Yeah, practice these until we chat again. And if you enjoy the show, maybe consider supporting us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It helps us keep going. Bye for now!
