- 0:00The mental consciousness tends to look at things with a linear
- 0:03perspective. It expects things to
- 0:06systematically roll out in a continuous, directed stream.
- 0:11It becomes upset and disoriented when what appears to be a
- 0:15settled result gets suddenly disrupted or upset by new
- 0:19circumstances, forces, or events.
- 0:24The processes of nature, however, are far more complex
- 0:28and the levels of being far more interwoven and interactive than
- 0:32even the widest mental view can comprehend.
- 0:36Because of this complexity, no progress in one area can
- 0:40possibly be fully and finally achieved and settled, while
- 0:45impacts from other areas can dilute or modify that progress.
- 0:50Nature therefore takes specific types of change to a certain
- 0:54point where it then becomes necessary to address and modify
- 0:58other areas so there is a comprehensive movement forward
- 1:03making further progress possible.
- 1:06Shrioro Bindo speaks elsewhere of the concept of ascent and
- 1:11integration. The ascent phase is the forward
- 1:15movement in one area or another. The progress then appears to
- 1:19slow down while other parts are brought forward and the changes
- 1:23disseminated into those other parts, dealing with the
- 1:27limitations and issues of those other parts of the being that
- 1:31come up during that process. It can be disconcerting when the
- 1:36seeker finds that suddenly a desire he thought he had
- 1:39overcome or an emotion he thought he had under control
- 1:44arises and overturns that settled notion.
- 1:48But it is not either to be seen as unusual or contradictory to
- 1:53the overall process. For instance, we may gain a
- 1:57realization in the mind, and we may be able to generally
- 2:02exercise our will to act on that basis.
- 2:06When the force that is working hits the vital or the physical
- 2:09nature, however, embedded and locked in, atavistic reactions,
- 2:14cellular memories, etcetera, suddenly appear.
- 2:18This requires the seeker to maintain the calm observational
- 2:23standpoint, understand the process, and exert steady, calm
- 2:28management of what is taking place.
- 2:32When we look more broadly at the evolution of consciousness in
- 2:36the world at large, we see these forces at work on a wide scale.
- 2:41We can observe, for instance, a small segment of humanity that
- 2:44is focused on spirituality, that is developing the mental
- 2:48capacities and finding ways to modify and change the vital and
- 2:53physical reactions. At a certain point, however, it
- 2:57becomes necessary for larger portions of humanity to make
- 3:01some amount of progress in these areas for the next phase of
- 3:05transformation to take hold and thrive.
- 3:09This is what may be called the texturing of the consciousness
- 3:13of humanity. We see this working out as
- 3:17humanity has, over a certain number of centuries, begun to
- 3:21address the issues of slavery, subjection of women, and the
- 3:26very relationship we hold to the environment and the other beings
- 3:31with whom we share the planet. While there is no doubt that
- 3:35large portions of humanity remain embedded in the old ways
- 3:39of seeing and doing things, an ever larger cohort of
- 3:44individuals are becoming sensitive to and responding
- 3:48positively to a new way of seeing and acting on these and
- 3:53other fronts over time. This texturing and broadening of
- 3:58the impact of the progressive force of the evolution of
- 4:01consciousness makes it possible for those who are forerunners in
- 4:06this area to take even further steps to advance.
- 4:12Srioro Bindo writes quote in the play of the Cosmic Forces.
- 4:18The will in the cosmos, as one might say, does not always work.
- 4:22Apparently in favour of a smooth and Direct Line for the work or
- 4:26the sadhna, it often brings in what seemed to be upheavals,
- 4:31sudden turns which break or deflect the line, opposing or
- 4:36upsetting circumstances or perplexing departures from what
- 4:40had been temporarily settled or established.
- 4:44The one thing is to preserve equanimity and make an
- 4:48opportunity and means of progress out of all that happens
- 4:52in the course of the life and the sadhna.
- 4:55There is a higher secret will transcendent behind the play and
- 4:59will of the cosmic forces, a play which is always a mixture
- 5:04of things favourable and things adverse, and it is that will
- 5:09which one must wait upon and have faith in.
- 5:12But you must not expect to be able always to understand its
- 5:16workings. The mind wants this or that to
- 5:19be done, the line once taken to be maintained.
- 5:24But what the mind wants is not at all always what is intended
- 5:28in a larger purpose. One has to follow indeed a fixed
- 5:32central aim in the Sadhna and not deviate from it, but not to
- 5:37build on outward circumstances, conditions, et cetera, as if
- 5:42they were fundamental things. End Quote.
