- 1:30He gets into college basketball. He knows everything you need to
- 1:34know when it comes to college hoops and who's the next big
- 1:38superstar heading to the NBA. We're now talking to the
- 1:41president of Scout Central and a former Pelicans executive, Dan
- 1:46Purcell. Dan, what's up, bud?
- 1:48What's happening? Can we, can I we first honor
- 1:51that? The great Quinton Coppols.
- 1:53I am on a a podcast or live chat, whatever you want to call
- 1:57it, live broadcast with Quinton Copples, a North China.
- 2:01Is my. Tar Heel legend.
- 2:03You. Do not.
- 2:04Even think this isn't awesome for me Quinton.
- 2:07Indeed, I appreciate that opportunity to talk with you
- 2:10tonight. Absolute legend.
- 2:12Awesome, I didn't know I was going to be on Quinton too.
- 2:15So, Dan, we've been arguing back and forth.
- 2:18Dabanza. Dabanza Peterson and Boozer.
- 2:23Now I think Boozer is going to Indiana.
- 2:25Something tells me Indiana's going to get that pick the third
- 2:28or second pick, no matter where they're picking.
- 2:31It's it seems like it's called, it seems like it's going to be
- 2:34camp Boozer. They love him.
- 2:35I've been reading a lot of different things about what they
- 2:38think of him and how how big of a young superstar he is and and
- 2:42what he is going to be in the NBA.
- 2:44You look at the three guys and me and Quentin have been going
- 2:46back and forth. Who do we believe is the number
- 2:49one guy in this draft class we've now?
- 2:51They're all talented, they're all special.
- 2:53Even Wilson from North Carolina, he's a special offensive player.
- 2:57Who do you feel should go #1 and why?
- 3:01This is a loaded question. So there's so much talent at the
- 3:06top of this. And Errol, if you remember last
- 3:08time I told you 26 was going to be the greatest draft since 2003
- 3:11from the very first time you and I ever met, I told you this was
- 3:15before everybody else was on the bandwagon.
- 3:17I literally told you O 6 or 26 was going to be the best draft
- 3:20since LeBron, if not as good at, not better, if not better than
- 3:24LeBron, Carmelo Wade, Bosch, all those guys, right?
- 3:28So you kind of have to walk through the teams here first.
- 3:32You have Indiana, So if Indiana gets the number one pick, The
- 3:35thing is they have Matheran and Halliburton already.
- 3:38So there's so much top end talent here that you can pick
- 3:42and choose who you want to go with Peterson.
- 3:44And Peterson is better than Matheran by a long shot.
- 3:46But The thing is, if you've already invested so much in
- 3:49Matheran and he does roughly the same type of game, he's not as
- 3:53good. But your front court, since you
- 3:55lost Miles Turner is just you pretty much your full front
- 3:58court is done in terms of star power, right?
- 4:01So I do like I do like Boozer if it's Indiana, But then you have
- 4:04to look at like, you know, do we go to Sacramento next?
- 4:07If Sacramento gets the number one pick, they're probably going
- 4:10Peterson. You know, if it's Brooklyn,
- 4:12they're going to go Peterson most likely.
- 4:15If it's Washington, Washington is a little different there.
- 4:17I still think they go Deboncha or Peterson there.
- 4:21It's a toss up. A lot of people love Deboncha.
- 4:23I I like, I loved a bunch. I, I think he's amazing.
- 4:27He's very Kevin Durantish in his game, but he's not 611, you know
- 4:31what I mean? He can get to his spots, but he
- 4:33doesn't have that separation that Kevin Durant has when it
- 4:36comes to getting to his spots on the floor, right?
- 4:39So are they all great guys? All three are really good, good
- 4:43kids, Really, really good kids. This whole thing about Peterson
- 4:46and all this, he's injured like he's literally having issues
- 4:49with his body. Part of it is his fault.
- 4:52Part of it is just the fact that injuries happen and things like
- 4:54that happen, right? So if with an NBA team, you have
- 4:58to remember you have sleep doctors, you have hydration, you
- 5:01have PTS, you have these layers of people.
- 5:04So I'm not worried about Peterson at all.
- 5:06He was rarely hurt in high school too.
- 5:08He had a couple ankle sprains. His knee was, you know, hurt one
- 5:11of the times, but he was more like a growing pain thing
- 5:13because he grew another two inches between I think it was
- 5:16his junior and senior year high school.
- 5:17So I don't he doesn't have this huge like injury history, but
- 5:22Debancha is probably the most solid of everybody in terms of
- 5:25if you want that balance of scoring, high end talent, All
- 5:28Star caliber player, he's going to be an 8 time All Star.
- 5:31Like it's not like he sucks, you know what I mean?
- 5:33We're we're we're literally pulling like just hairs off of
- 5:37these guys trying to figure out which one is better than the
- 5:40other. And then I think those three,
- 5:41they solidified themselves as as top three.
- 5:44And then you have the next one, which is, you know, I'm not a
- 5:47big like I love Kingston Flemings.
- 5:49I don't think he's in that second tier.
- 5:50But I do love Caleb Wilson, I love Acuff.
- 5:53Michael Brown is another one. Michael Brown, I don't know,
- 5:55whatever you want to call him, all those guys are in the next,
- 6:00you know, next kind of tier of players.
- 6:03So top three, you're probably getting a franchise player.
- 6:06Doesn't matter which one it is. You're probably very happy if
- 6:09you're the 3rd pick in the draft because then you don't have any
- 6:12other pressure or the speculation of, oh, well,
- 6:15Devanche ended up being better than Peterson or Peterson ended
- 6:17be up better than Boozer, or Boozer was better.
- 6:19You know what I mean? You're just kind of like, well,
- 6:21we were third and we just took the best player on the board and
- 6:23we're just going to make it work.
- 6:26It's it's very hard to understand when you watch these
- 6:28guys and how can you predict what these guys are going to
- 6:31transition into with the NBA? Because we've seen a lot of
- 6:34great young players get drafted very, very high and do nothing.
- 6:38And, and unfortunately, the NBA is completely different.
- 6:42It's faster, they're more athletic.
- 6:43They're just the best of the best.
- 6:45And that's where me and Quentin go back and forth because I look
- 6:49at all three of these guys and I am, I am a Duke fan.
- 6:52I am a Duke fan, but I've been watching Cambuser when he was in
- 6:558th grade, just like I was watching Cooper flag.
- 6:57I understand all these guys are the best in their state, the
- 7:02best in the nation or whatever side of the nation they're from.
- 7:05The only problem I have with the Banjo is he's not a good
- 7:10three-point shooter. Now he can develop 1, he can
- 7:12develop one, but it's very, very hard when you're going into the
- 7:16NBA, unless you're Kobe Bryant, you're going to shoot like 203
- 7:19pointers in the morning, 203 pointers in the afternoon and
- 7:22203 pointers at night and, and wake up early in the morning.
- 7:26If the Banjo doesn't have that work ethic and I know he he
- 7:29wants to play 42 minutes. We heard this.
- 7:31There's a lot of back and forth of what who who he is and how
- 7:35hard of a work he is. The guy that I like is Cam
- 7:39because I watch his inside game. I I like his his his presence on
- 7:44the on the basketball court, his leadership with the Duke Blue
- 7:47Devils and his father, Carlos Boozer.
- 7:50We watched him play for Duke. We've watched him play.
- 7:53He was a good player. This kid is way better than his
- 7:55dad is his ability to shoot the ball.
- 7:58He could shoot the three. He can get inside.
- 8:00He can do all those things. And that's why I go back and
- 8:02forth with Quentin, because Quinton has his thoughts.
- 8:05He likes, I think he said he likes to banja.
- 8:07I, I like Boozer and I, I'm not worried.
- 8:11I think Peterson's probably the most talented out of all of
- 8:14them. I really do believe that with
- 8:16all around talent, I think if he could just play the game and not
- 8:19put himself out there, I think Peterson could be the best one
- 8:22out of all of them. But I worry about him because
- 8:25we've heard things off the court about what he has said to the
- 8:29coaching staff. There are there are some things
- 8:32that have been going on or repeatedly going on that he told
- 8:37the coach that he doesn't want to go back into the game.
- 8:39We've heard that. And and here's another thing,
- 8:42you mentioned the other guys and you go back and forth with
- 8:46Flemings. Flemings reminds me of Donovan
- 8:49Mitchell, a bigger version of Donovan Mitchell.
- 8:51He can play defense, he's a shutdown defender.
- 8:53And that's what Donovan Mitchell was when he was playing for
- 8:56Louisville. He was a he averaged 11 points.
- 8:59He wasn't considered a score. And that's why the Knicks
- 9:01decided to pass up on him. They made a mistake because it
- 9:04developed a shot when he came into the NBA with Utah and
- 9:07became a superstar. I look at Flemings.
- 9:10If he goes to the right place, if he develops that 3 point shot
- 9:14like Donovan Mitchell did, he's he's bigger, he's longer he and
- 9:17he can play. I think he could play the one.
- 9:19I think he could play the two. I think he's better off playing
- 9:21the two in the NBA. I mean, I, I, Kingston is, is
- 9:28interesting because I saw him. There's a tournament in Dallas
- 9:33every year for high school and Kingston was in it.
- 9:36So was Isidor Newman out of New Orleans.
- 9:38That's where Chris Cenac went before he, you know, went to
- 9:43Missouri or you know, the link Academy in Missouri.
- 9:49And when I saw Kingston in junior year, I thought, man,
- 9:53this kids, he's good. Like he's he's he was a three
- 9:55star I think then and I'm like this, he's very good, crafty
- 9:58with the ball, can get up. You know, the two year leap on
- 10:02his development has been on in, in my opinion, it's some of the
- 10:05most unprecedented leaps you can get because most of the time
- 10:07guards like that are pretty much have a skill set by the time
- 10:10they get to be a senior in high school.
- 10:12And then they're just honing that craft, right?
- 10:14Whether you're a pick and roll point guard, whether you're a
- 10:17facilitator, you're a defender, whatever that is, you've kind of
- 10:20like, 'cause you're not going to most likely grow anymore or get
- 10:22bigger, right? Kingston grew a little bit, but
- 10:25his body frame is still almost the same as it was.
- 10:27He's yeah, he's gotten a little stronger as I think everybody
- 10:30does as they get into, especially Houston, you know,
- 10:32you know, Calvin's not out there having those guys just jog
- 10:35around, like those guys are working 24/7.
- 10:38And you know, Kingston, I actually see him more like D
- 10:43Aaron Fox, to be honest with you.
- 10:44Like that's the type of guy that I think Kingston is going to be
- 10:49like if he gets into a system that will let him do that, if he
- 10:52ends up somewhere that doesn't, then you might see a regression.
- 10:55And he's, he's a, to me, he's hit or miss here in this draft.
- 10:59He's gonna be a core guy for you.
- 11:01He's going to be a guy that's around for seven to 10 years and
- 11:04you're going to build, help build around.
- 11:06He's going to be like your Drew Holiday secondary type player.
- 11:08You know, like a Drew Holiday Prime player is like the best
- 11:11second or third option you could have on a team.
- 11:13Look what happened with Boston, right?
- 11:14He was what, the third option? And they were unbelievable with
- 11:17him. So somebody like that, I think
- 11:19that's more Kingston's flow there.
- 11:22But he got so much better at shooting the three.
- 11:24He was always crafty around the rim and he could always defend.
- 11:27He uses his IQ and he has a little bit of length to him.
- 11:29So Kingston's a big. I think he's just hit or miss
- 11:33though. I think he's either going to be
- 11:34one of those guys that is just a core guy or he becomes a career
- 11:37back IT backup like Tyus Jones, Somebody like that that, you
- 11:40know, that is a really good player and teams want that
- 11:43player, but he's just never going to stick in one place for
- 11:46a long time. So Acuff has gotten a lot of
- 11:48hype because of the tournament he's had so far, and obviously
- 11:51they beat Arizona tonight. He could definitely justify it
- 11:53even more. You look at an NBA executive now
- 11:56thinking maybe he could be a top five pick and there was someone
- 11:59saying I might take him over Peterson.
- 12:00With the Peterson having the injury concerns, what do you
- 12:03think his ceiling is as an NBA player and do you think there is
- 12:05top five potential for him? Petey, you're talking about my
- 12:07guy Acuff. I love Acuff.
- 12:10He was my favorite interview. So I did interviews with every
- 12:14lottery pick or it was like the top 1415 two years ago when they
- 12:18were juniors in high school. I did that on purpose because I
- 12:20wanted to, like I wanted to get them before they got inundated
- 12:24with PR and all agents and all that stuff, right?
- 12:28And Acuff was the best interview that I had.
- 12:33He is so intelligent and he's so high IQ and it was crazy because
- 12:39a lot of people thought he was this ball dominant point guard
- 12:42who just could score like a Team USA going into his junior year,
- 12:46I believe it was. They really thought that he was
- 12:50not going to make Team USA because he just dominated the
- 12:53ball the whole time. And it took him all this time to
- 12:55like understand that now that he's with Cal that he can get
- 12:59off of it and get it back and be way more effective.
- 13:01If you watch Arkansas throughout the year, he's gotten way better
- 13:04at getting off the ball, coming back to it within the set and
- 13:07then finishing up what he needs to do right.
- 13:09His shooting has gotten so much better than when it was at IMG.
- 13:13Like he was a volume contest guy at IMG his first year and it was
- 13:19not very good. And I even talked to him.
- 13:20It was nice of him. He actually asked me what can I
- 13:23do? Like if I'm going to get the
- 13:24NBA, what do I need to do? I said you need to shoot threes
- 13:26better. Like you take bad threes.
- 13:28And he's gotten so much better at contest off the pick and roll
- 13:32off, you know, off of secondary action.
- 13:34Like right there, they just ran twist on that highlight right
- 13:36there. Like all of those things like
- 13:38you're seeing him do, he's always finished.
- 13:40But if you look at his body now, if you guys didn't notice, his
- 13:43father played, I believe at Detroit, University of Detroit.
- 13:47I think that's where it was. And he was a very different type
- 13:49of player. And he has got more body to him
- 13:52than his dad had for him or that his dad had.
- 13:55And his body is one that you look for in an NBA point guard.
- 14:00You are looking for big, strong, long guys who can get to the
- 14:04rim, who can shoot, but they can also facilitate off of this.
- 14:07And I think the way his like he, he plays so too low sometimes
- 14:12that it's almost impossible with his strength for anybody to get
- 14:15a bump on him. So I think, you know, Acuff is,
- 14:19I think he's better than Kingston in this sense.
- 14:21I he's not in the top three. Let's just make sure we're all
- 14:24clear on that. Quentin's going to agree with
- 14:26me. 100 million that I can see already.
- 14:29I can see it already. And I actually think Acuff could
- 14:33be the 4th pick. He'll probably end up being the
- 14:355th or 6th, but that's how deep if think about it this way.
- 14:38If Darius Acuff was in the draft last year, where would he go?
- 14:42Number one, he'd be the first pick he'd.
- 14:44Have been the second or third pick.
- 14:45Max flag was the number one pick regardless.
- 14:47You have to remember that flag flag.
- 14:49Was supposed to be in this class.
- 14:51If everybody remembers he was in this class and then he
- 14:54reclassified to go in the one before this, well, I was.
- 14:57I was guessing what you were going to say.
- 14:59I thought I'm a Cooper, I'm a Cooper Flag fan.
- 15:04Everybody knew I had Cooper Flag going one like 8 years ago when
- 15:08I watched him play high school ball.
- 15:09I was like, this guy's special, he's going to be the face of
- 15:12United States basketball. And I've gone back and forth and
- 15:14I know Q's got a question for you.
- 15:16I look at Cambuser and I look at Flag, you know.
- 15:18And could you have imagined if if Flag decided to play one more
- 15:22year with this Duke Blue Devil team, but that team right now, I
- 15:25mean, it, it would be ridiculous.
- 15:27And and that's the thing I'm I'm looking forward to seeing both
- 15:31these guys develop as NBA players and see how we can
- 15:34compare them in the future when it comes to playing college
- 15:36ball. And both maybe one wins a
- 15:39national champion and the other one, you know, fell short
- 15:42because of, you know, John Shire, as we all know.
- 15:46And you hate John Shire. I hear it all the time, but I
- 15:48listen. I can't stand John Shire.
- 15:50Why? I can't stand him because I
- 15:52don't think he knows what he's doing.
- 15:53I really don't. I think it's Coach K, Rudy
- 15:56recruiting these guys. He still lives in over there on
- 15:59the university, at the University House over there.
- 16:02He's he's always at the practices, He's always working
- 16:06out with the team. So yeah, I think Coach K has a
- 16:08lot to do with some of the recruiting guys that they have
- 16:11over there. But I just don't like John.
- 16:13I I, it's not, not to hate on him.
- 16:15I just, I never saw him as, oh, that's the guy I want to run the
- 16:20team. After Coach K stepped down, I
- 16:22wanted Bobby Hurley. That's who I wanted.
- 16:25I and everybody says, well, what?
- 16:27Bobby Hurley just got fired. Look at the program, look at the
- 16:30program he was coaching at. If he was over there with Duke,
- 16:34he'd still get the recruiting class that John Shire has.
- 16:37So that was my argument. I think Bobby Hurley's had, you
- 16:41know, he's been kicked in the butt too many times.
- 16:43That's all I'm going to say. Got top three right, so an ideal
- 16:46mock draft situation. Me personally, I think Kim
- 16:50Boozer is more of a system guy. I think it's something that you
- 16:54mentioned earlier, whatever, where I feel like AJ has the
- 16:58versatility and he's a wing and you can kind of place him in
- 17:01places to make him at seed and be great at it.
- 17:04And a mock draft. Where were you watching to
- 17:05Indiana and whoever who else will be there will be thirteen
- 17:09that we can just say Brooklyn Pelicans.
- 17:12Yeah, Sacramento. Well, that would be Atlanta
- 17:14those. 2/3 remember. That would be Atlanta Pelicans,
- 17:17right, Because they got they traded out right, right.
- 17:19So give me those top three in regards to who you would see fit
- 17:23best with the system that they got going on because AJ wouldn't
- 17:26fit with Indiana, right, because they got passcode.
- 17:28So it wouldn't make sense. He's good enough, I mean.
- 17:32Yeah, but. Great players.
- 17:35You've been on teams with great players, sometimes great
- 17:37players. You make the system right, You
- 17:39don't. It's like it doesn't change
- 17:41between sports if you have a A. *.
- 17:45You're going to like, if you have Cam Newton, you are going
- 17:46to make the team around Cam Newton.
- 17:48Let's just be real, you know, make those.
- 17:50Adjustments. Yeah.
- 17:51Now I think it's more fit and yeah, Indiana, let's just say
- 17:55Indiana goes one. I do think they actually go
- 17:57boozer I if the the thing with Peterson is Peterson has such a
- 18:02high ceiling. Like he could be just under Kobe
- 18:05Bryant Good. In my opinion, as long as he's
- 18:08working, doing, being healthy, doing what he's you know,
- 18:10everything kind of goes right. Remember, Kobe wasn't always.
- 18:13Healthy. No.
- 18:13No, he wasn't. He wasn't.
- 18:15He wasn't no he needs he had checked to ride on for the first
- 18:18few years till he matured, got better at his body.
- 18:20I mean, he was 18 years old and he was out here competing, which
- 18:22is great. So Peterson by far has the
- 18:26highest ceiling. Like he's a guy who could be a
- 18:27Hall of Famer first ballot. Like you could win 3
- 18:30championships, 4 championships with the guy.
- 18:33Like that's the talent that he has.
- 18:35So if Indiana wants to go that route, that means they're saying
- 18:38it's Halliburton, Peterson, and then they're going to try to
- 18:42figure out Mathrin and his money, right?
- 18:44But then your front court is absolutely gutted.
- 18:47You're going to be playing, you know, you're going to try to be
- 18:51gluing pieces of paper into the cement wall, trying to figure
- 18:55out your front court because now you got to go against Boozer the
- 18:57rest of your career. You still got jokage out there,
- 19:00you know what I mean? Still got sanguine.
- 19:02You got all these other guys that you're going to have to
- 19:03play eventually, you know? So, yeah, if it's Indiana, I
- 19:07think I think Boozer is the best pick for them.
- 19:10If it's, let's say it's Utah, for example, right?
- 19:13Utah's a big wild card here. Danny loves talent.
- 19:18That's Danny's. Danny Age's big thing is he
- 19:19loves. Talent.
- 19:22Like if you're a dude who just is, is talented like Jaylen
- 19:24Brown was or Tatum or anybody like that, Danny is all about
- 19:28he's just going to go for you immediately, right?
- 19:30So for him it's Peterson, It's Peterson or bust right there
- 19:34because the talent's so high. And but if you get to
- 19:37Washington, what is Washington going to do now?
- 19:39Now you have Anthony Davis, you have all these other pieces, you
- 19:42have Trey Young. Like how does that all work?
- 19:45I think they I think they go to Bancha if it's Washington, you
- 19:47know what I mean? Like it's a.
- 19:48Better thing. In that in that grouping now,
- 19:51yeah, obviously ADS at the end of his career, Trey Young
- 19:54probably is 3 to 4 years Max of where he's at, you know, where
- 19:57in terms of like peak. But like Sacramento, Sacramento,
- 20:02I think they go to Bancha just the way that their teams built,
- 20:05you know, But then if you have a wild card, let's just say
- 20:08Atlanta, you know, let's just say the Pelicans start sliding
- 20:11again and Atlanta ends up with the number one pick.
- 20:14They're probably going Peterson. Right, they're probably going
- 20:17with. The most talented, Yeah.
- 20:19So the draft, the, the rule of the draft is you always go for
- 20:23the best projected talent, the best talent.
- 20:27How good is that guy going to be in six years when that, when
- 20:29that second contract is up? You know, that's the big thing.
- 20:33You have 7 years to rent. In essence, you're renting a guy
- 20:36for seven years and hopefully he sticks because you're winning,
- 20:38right? Like that's the whole thing.
- 20:40And then how much trade value does he have in year 6?
- 20:42Those are the two things that you really look at in terms of,
- 20:45you know, the draft. You hear that arrow, you hear
- 20:48that potential. You know, I was trying to tell
- 20:49you that before you could say potential.
- 20:51Potential doesn't sell anything I told you.
- 20:54Potential doesn't sell me anything.
- 20:55You just had a great tell us this.
- 20:56OK, yeah, Remember Markel? Remember Markel's faults?
- 20:59Remember him? Oh, potential.
- 21:01Look at the potential. The guy couldn't hit a free
- 21:03throw. So please stop it.
- 21:05Yeah, he's. Talking about Mark, you want to
- 21:07hear the Markel Fault story? Arrow.
- 21:08Let's hear it. So, so Danny Ainge, you know,
- 21:11this is I think Danny's really smart.
- 21:14The story goes that Danny had Markel Foltz come in and they
- 21:19went for a walk around the facility around.
- 21:23But I don't know if it's town. I don't know if they were a TD
- 21:25yard in anyways. And there was a team Doctor Who
- 21:29trailed them and Markel did not know that the doctor was
- 21:32trailing them. And the doctor was watching how
- 21:35Markel Foltz walked and turn corners and how he stopped at
- 21:40stop signs, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, to find like they
- 21:43because they knew about the foot injury, they knew about the
- 21:45stuff that was going on with him.
- 21:47And so they, they walked I guess like a mile, mile and a half,
- 21:49something like that. And the doctors then told Danny,
- 21:53you cannot draft this guy. He's going to have foot and
- 21:56ankle problems his whole career. And they literally took a
- 21:59picture of him and Danny and both of Markel Foltz's feet were
- 22:02pointed out like this. And Danny went done and he and
- 22:07that's when he traded and he got Jaylen.
- 22:10I think it was Jaylen Brown. Yeah.
- 22:11Jaylen Brown at 3:00. And that story, that's one of
- 22:14the most resonating stories of Danny Ainge that I can remember.
- 22:17Like, that's the stuff. Like, that's like mad scientist
- 22:20stuff. So the cool, good, good.
- 22:22Markel Fultz shout out, by the way.
- 22:25I like to throw curveballs. We are talking to president of
- 22:28of Scout Central and former Pelicans executive Dan Purcell,
- 22:31a friend of the show, 1 of the Smarter basketball knowledgeable
- 22:35guys when it comes to college athletes and who you're going to
- 22:39draft in these drafts. This is the guy you go to if you
- 22:42want to have, if you have questions about a talent OR a
- 22:45certain person or player that is coming out of the draft and even
- 22:48in the future. Because he told me 2026 and 27
- 22:53are two really good drafts. So even next year, I think you
- 22:55told me that 2027 is going to be a big one as well.
- 22:59But I wanted to get into the Knicks and to me, a lot of
- 23:04people are questioning the team at the Celtics.
- 23:07They got Tatum back and right now the Tatum and the Celtics
- 23:11are in that second spot, but not by much.
- 23:14And even if the Knicks get the two and and the Celtics are the
- 23:17three, this is how it really felt last year.
- 23:20The Celtics play too. They have homecourt advantage.
- 23:23The Knicks play them in the second round.
- 23:24So we know how this is all going to fall.
- 23:27But I think the Knicks are a little bit better of a team this
- 23:29year. I think they're better coached.
- 23:31And I'm not taking shots at Tom Thibodeau.
- 23:33I love Tom. He's a New York guy.
- 23:35He's he's from the Connecticut area.
- 23:37He grew up a Knick fan. So I love Tom Thibodeau and I'm
- 23:39not taking shots at him, but Mike Brown, to me, as long as
- 23:43he's not shaking people's hands or smiling at the opposing teams
- 23:47when they they lose, I like Mike Brown.
- 23:49I think he's coached his team very, very well this year.
- 23:52He's taking a Cavalier team to the Finals.
- 23:54Yes, they lost, but he took him there.
- 23:56He was good with Sacramento until he got fired.
- 23:58I think to me he's a kind of a different well-rounded coach and
- 24:03I think that he's getting these guys to start to buy in.
- 24:06Look at Karl Anthony Towns in the last couple of weeks.
- 24:09He's buying in OG Ananobi, even though a lot of people think
- 24:12he's an up and down type of player.
- 24:14He's a great two way player. He's probably one of the best
- 24:16perimeter defenders the NBA has. And then you have Mikhail
- 24:20Bridges. Even though the Knicks gave up
- 24:22five first round draft picks, I still think Mikhail Bridges is
- 24:25going to play a big part if the Knicks are going to win a
- 24:27championship. What do you think the Knicks
- 24:30need to win a championship going into the playoffs this year?
- 24:34Health. That's it.
- 24:36The Knicks have everything you need in a team to come out of
- 24:39the East now. Can they win it all?
- 24:42That's if you have San Antonio or OKC sitting on the other
- 24:46side. I'm not sure that anybody is
- 24:47going to beat them. Those are the two best teams in
- 24:49the league in my. So that's just beat OKC last
- 24:51night by team. So good the Knicks beat that.
- 24:54Knicks kicks the crap out of the Spurs both times.
- 24:56One, they won the Cup that. Doesn't mean the Spurs are
- 24:58young. We're not.
- 24:59We are. They just March 20.
- 25:01Six in the South, like the Spurs, are pretty much locked up
- 25:04where they are going to be. Dan Dan Quitney is a he has a
- 25:08love fest for the South. This guy, No, this is my team.
- 25:11I. Just said it is a love fetish.
- 25:13Nothing wrong with it. Well, he should be excited like
- 25:15they just got their best player back.
- 25:16Like they you should be excited now the the Boston is very, very
- 25:22good still, right? Like it's not like they're bad.
- 25:24They weren't bad before. Front court depth is going to be
- 25:27an issue as it comes down to this, you know, and let's just
- 25:30say Celtics make it to the finals.
- 25:31They have 0 answer for Wemby or Chet.
- 25:34They don't have any, They don't have anything for those guys.
- 25:37And that ultimately in A7 game series is your difference
- 25:40between if the New York, if the Knicks can win the finals or
- 25:44not. I don't think they can win the
- 25:46Finals if those two teams are there.
- 25:48Now if there's a random team that beat them or nothing
- 25:51happened or there's injuries, absolutely the Knicks could be a
- 25:53favorite. But with those two teams
- 25:55standing in the way, the front court depth of both of those
- 25:58teams is just going to be way too much in A7 game series for
- 26:02the Knicks. Now can the Knicks go to the
- 26:03Finals? 100%?
- 26:05Would I want to be in the Garden for game three of the NBA
- 26:07Finals? Oh hell yeah.
- 26:08Give me the Garden that anytime you want to talk about maybe the
- 26:13greatest basketball game you could be a part of.
- 26:15Game three tied at 1:00. Oh my God, in the garden.
- 26:19Oh my gosh, that would go crazy. Insane.
- 26:23And, and here's another thing. And I, I, I go back and forth
- 26:25and I argue my points. I've been on in a couple of
- 26:28Nick's shows. They've asked me to come on and,
- 26:30and, and I've gone back and forth with Quran, shout out to
- 26:32Quran. So I, I understand the Nick fans
- 26:36are dedicated fans, but you have to be honest with yourselves.
- 26:40And to me, the secret of the Nick's success going into the
- 26:43playoffs is you got to use Karl Anthony Towns more offensively.
- 26:48If he disappears in these series, the Knicks don't have a
- 26:51chance. They don't have a chance.
- 26:53They could beat Detroit. Detroit, Cunningham, he's not
- 26:57healthy. We don't know if he's going to
- 26:59be 100% in the playoffs. So I'm not worried about
- 27:02Detroit. The Celtics are the team that I
- 27:03worry about, the Cavaliers. I'm not really worried about
- 27:07James Harden. I he doesn't play well in the
- 27:09playoffs. The guys are a hit or miss in
- 27:11the playoffs. And then even the teams below,
- 27:13below the Cavaliers, I just, I don't trust any of those teams.
- 27:17I, I look at the Celtics, they are dangerous.
- 27:19I think Jalen Brown is their best player I've I've watched
- 27:23Taylor Brown in his development. You're not smart.
- 27:26Well, that's that's your opinion.
- 27:28But guess what? They're both.
- 27:29Great, let's not. They're both, yeah.
- 27:32Either one could be the best player on anything.
- 27:34I'm not. Smart, Quinton.
- 27:36You're going to tell me, Jason? About, about about this this
- 27:39particular position that you take, not necessarily Overwatch.
- 27:43I'm going to, I'm going to attack your position.
- 27:45Let's go and tell. You why you're wrong.
- 27:48Jaylen Brown is a two way player.
- 27:50He is by far their best defensive player on that.
- 27:52Road. By far, he could play multiple
- 27:55positions. Jason Tatum's a good defender.
- 27:57He's not an elite defender. Jaylen Brown, he has turned into
- 28:00an elite defender and he can score.
- 28:03He's averaging what, 27 points? I mean, the guy is the he's one
- 28:06of the best two way players in the NBA.
- 28:08So when I look and I love Jason Tatum, he's a Duke Blue Devil.
- 28:11So he's in my heart. I can't stand the Celtics, but I
- 28:14love Jason Tatum to go out there and tell me that I don't know
- 28:17what I'm talking about. Well, look at the development.
- 28:20Look at the development. And here's another thing about
- 28:22Jalen Brown that people don't understand.
- 28:24This guy could have signed with Nike.
- 28:26He could have signed with Nike instead, this man said.
- 28:28You know what I'm going to. Create my own.
- 28:30Shoe, I'm going to create my own style.
- 28:33I'm going to create my own fashion.
- 28:35That's something that's that I look at Jaylen and Jaylen Brown
- 28:38is by far the smartest player on that roster.
- 28:41He is such a very smart basketball player.
- 28:44So I look at both guys and if you were to ask me right now,
- 28:48who am I building my team around now, especially with the
- 28:51Achilles tear, it's that man right there, Jaylen Brown, who
- 28:54always is healthy, always. Two points right here if if the
- 28:58guy that I'm guarding is averaging 30 points, would you
- 29:01say I'll go good defender yes. OK, so This is why I say that
- 29:05you're not here smart. There's no way in the in the.
- 29:08World. That you can sit here and say
- 29:10that someone who is putting up 30 points a game is been the
- 29:15defender is an elite defender you're.
- 29:18Wrong. You're wrong, and I'm going to
- 29:20tell you why. OG Nanobi.
- 29:23OG and Nanobi defended Shay Alexander.
- 29:25Did he score 30 points in that game?
- 29:27Did he? You was just talking about
- 29:29Jaylen Brown, you said. You just said it.
- 29:32You just. Said it.
- 29:33Did you not say that? Did you not say that?
- 29:35You said if you're defending him and he scores 30 points, is that
- 29:39does that make you an elite defender?
- 29:40OG and Nanobi is an elite defender and he played Shay
- 29:43Alexander. He defended him 90% of the time
- 29:46and he still scored 30. So you're going to tell me that
- 29:49that's your argument, that's what you're throwing, That's
- 29:51what you're trying to make stick.
- 29:53Come on. Dude, come on, stop.
- 29:55Come on. Get his job done.
- 29:56Get out of here. That's what is it.
- 29:58Someone is going 30 on you. Get out of here.
- 30:01That means you're not getting the job.
- 30:02Consistently Who scored 30 consistently on it?
- 30:05You can't outweigh that. Based on who?
- 30:07Is scoring 30 points consistently against Jaylen
- 30:10Brown. Give me one, Give me one, Give
- 30:13me one. Yeah, give it, Give me.
- 30:15You watch the Celtics all the time.
- 30:16Tell me, Tell me everybody. Don't.
- 30:21Don't give me these everybody either.
- 30:23You asked for the answer and I gave you that.
- 30:26Give me another. That's all that, man.
- 30:28Give me another one. I gave you two.
- 30:30I'm not going to keep going down the whole list.
- 30:32Wait a second, wait a second. I love Jaylen Brown.
- 30:37No, you think he's a good defender.
- 30:39However, when someone scores 30 points on you, that doesn't mean
- 30:43that you're a great defender. That doesn't mean that you
- 30:45should be held at an elite level in defense when the star player
- 30:49is scoring 30 points because you're going to knock Jayden and
- 30:52Jason Tatum for not guarding the greatest player, but his player
- 30:55ain't getting 30 points neither. So that's that.
- 30:58So two players who are probably two of the most elite offensive
- 31:01players you. Asked for one and I gave you 2.
- 31:04You're wrong. That is a terrible take.
- 31:07That's a terrible argument you. Luke Luke and then scores that
- 31:10will repay them in the bank. Lucas Lucas scores special.
- 31:13Go ahead, go ahead. That from somebody like broke
- 31:15this down for years. Neither if you were wrong, by
- 31:18the way, like I hate to pray. I know we're sitting here going
- 31:21you actually, both of you are absolutely right because like
- 31:24there's there's something in the chat.
- 31:26Kevin Durant can get 30 on anybody any night.
- 31:28Yep, he sure can Steph can get 30 any night.
- 31:30It doesn't matter who's guarding him right, right.
- 31:32But there are times in the playoffs where you need Jalen to
- 31:36score 30 and then he needs to guard SGA and SGA just needs to
- 31:39score 22 and Jalen can help with those 3 to 4 possessions of
- 31:42doing that. So there's it's it's it's a it's
- 31:45a it's a slippery slope of like this argument of they're both
- 31:49super valuable, both of those guys.
- 31:51Now if I have to pick OGOG or Jaylen Brown, I'm taking Jaylen
- 31:54Brown not even thinking. So that's when you start getting
- 31:57into comparables right between now we start breaking down
- 32:00defensive positions. So we're talking about OG
- 32:03bridges. Like, we can go on and on about
- 32:05guys who can, you know, you could talk about Herb Jones at
- 32:08that point if we're talking about, you know, defenders.
- 32:10But neither of you are wrong. I love this argument, but you
- 32:14literally neither of you are wrong in this argument at all.
- 32:17My thing is that it just trying to take a shot at Jason because
- 32:20he, you know, he's just elite two way defender and it's like,
- 32:25OK, well the guy that I'm supposed to be stopping is
- 32:27consistently scored 30. Or are you sorry?
- 32:30I can defend, but I'm just not the elite defender that you're
- 32:33trying to prop up the year to beat.
- 32:35And that's what I'm saying. And then you don't consider
- 32:36Jason Tatum defense in the offensive rebounds.
- 32:39You don't consider that he's almost averaging a triple double
- 32:42and you go tell me that Jaylen Brown is the best player on the
- 32:44team. He is.
- 32:45Just makes no sense. He is the best player on the.
- 32:48Team, He's a great asset and I'm glad they don't let people like
- 32:51you influence the. People like me, people like you
- 32:55who's absolutely gullible and blind.
- 32:58OK, you're going to tell me right now when you watch the
- 33:01Celtics religiously, and I watch a lot of Celtics games and I
- 33:05love Jayson Tatum, I couldn't stand Jaylen Brown.
- 33:08Anybody that listens to this show, when he was drafted, I was
- 33:10watching the draft. When they draft, I said who?
- 33:14Jaylen Brown? That's the way.
- 33:16That's the place they're going in the draft.
- 33:18And I laughed at, I said this guy's not going to be anything.
- 33:20His development has been absolutely so impressive, and it
- 33:25compared to Jason Tatum, who I already knew was going to be
- 33:28special. I watched him play for Duke.
- 33:30He's long, he's talented, athletically gifted.
- 33:33Jaylen Brown is on a whole nother level, my friend.
- 33:37A whole nother level. He that's the thing that nobody
- 33:41talks about is Joe Missoula putting them in the right
- 33:44position. I know you don't like them.
- 33:47I ain't Sam over there. They're coaching their tails off
- 33:50over there, putting these guys in excellent positions and and
- 33:53really doing a great job in regards to details.
- 33:56Don't worry, Quit me still likes it more than John Shire.
- 33:58I do. I like yeah, yeah, you
- 33:59definitely like it more than that.
- 34:01I. Definitely.
- 34:04Do. Yes, Errol, I wanted to get your
- 34:07take on the Will Wade situation. This is as time keeps going on.
- 34:14I just I had to ask you today. I was so excited that I was
- 34:17coming on to talk to you about this today because like it
- 34:19happened all today, like literally in real time in the
- 34:22last six hours. Do you what have you know for
- 34:25what you know about it? I I got to know what you think
- 34:28about. So so tell me exactly I heard
- 34:30some things on I don't watch a lot of.
- 34:32This is huge. This is unprecedented.
- 34:34So what is he saying Will? So Will Wade.
- 34:37So OK, the administrators that were at McNeese State, that's
- 34:41when Will Wade. That's in Lake Charles, LA, on
- 34:45the border of Texas in Louisiana.
- 34:47So remember, he took them into the Sweet 16, I think, or I'm
- 34:50sorry, into the NCAA tournament. Twice.
- 34:52Two years in a row. Yeah, yeah, three.
- 34:54Sorry. Yeah, The administrators for
- 34:58McNeese are now in charge at LSU.
- 35:01So this job is not open, by the way, was not open.
- 35:06The old coach I forgot I was forget his name.
- 35:08He's a nice guy. I I forget his name, nice guy.
- 35:10Whatever. He was not winning, right?
- 35:12And they just were like wholesale changing.
- 35:14Will Wade said a week ago, a week ago, I'm not going anywhere
- 35:18instead, you know, and that's you normal talk, right?
- 35:21But the guys got hired at from, at from Mckneeson to LSU, right?
- 35:26Will Wade got a 1.7 or $1.6 million a year raise.
- 35:30He's up to 4 million now. And LSU gave him $10 million for
- 35:35NIL slash staff slash, whatever he wants to use it for.
- 35:40I think it's double what NC State was going to give her.
- 35:42Maybe it was, you know, 40%. More.
- 35:46And then they fired Matt, I think his name was Matt Fired
- 35:49him. Yeah.
- 35:52They fired him on the spot. And they didn't interview
- 35:55anybody. There was nobody.
- 35:57This was not a job that you could even interview for.
- 36:00And you know, there's rules in the NCAA where you have to, you
- 36:03have to. So there's there might be
- 36:05lawsuits coming out on top of this for what is going on
- 36:08because they just stole him from NC State.
- 36:11And then his agent, Errol, get this, his agent sent sent the
- 36:15president an e-mail saying Will Wade's going to LSU, by the way,
- 36:21no face to face, no talk, no counter, nothing.
- 36:25It was gone. It is unprecedented.
- 36:29It really isn't. You want me to tell you why?
- 36:31It is because I can tell you right now Pitino wouldn't do
- 36:34this, John Shire wouldn't do that.
- 36:37I'm not. I'm just saying.
- 36:38I'm just saying like you can't do that.
- 36:40I'm not surprised that this is happening in LSU because
- 36:44something happened in football this year with LSU Tigers.
- 36:48As we all know, Lane Kiffin just magically got a job over there
- 36:53at LSU, walked away from a championship team, A-Team that
- 36:57probably wins a national championship if he doesn't
- 37:00leave. That's the problem right now.
- 37:02LSU has their hand up everybody's skirt.
- 37:05That's what they're doing. They're, they're just fiddling
- 37:08whatever you want to fiddle under the skirt and, and they're
- 37:10making sure that she's having a little bit of fun.
- 37:14And, and to me right now, when you hear a story like that, it's
- 37:17just like Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin was making money.
- 37:20He was making money as the team was moving forward in the
- 37:24tournament. And he's laughing.
- 37:26He's laughing to the bank. I don't care.
- 37:28They're not winning the national championship.
- 37:29There's no way they're going to beat Indiana.
- 37:31There's no way they're going to go through this team and that
- 37:33team and they as far as they went, he was making money.
- 37:35And now you're hearing, I'm, I'm just hearing this story and Wade
- 37:39gets this job. He gets $10 million of NIL
- 37:42deals, which is enormous. You can you can do so much with
- 37:45that, so much with that. As a matter of fact, recruiting
- 37:48players should be no problem next year for LSU because they
- 37:52could just throw that money into it.
- 37:53So. They go use it up.
- 37:55Oh, there definitely. Are Will's going to spend that?
- 37:57I can guarantee you every dot. And also do a better job than
- 38:01Mark Pope did at Kentucky with 22 million.
- 38:02That's true too. I I forgot about that one too.
- 38:05But it seems like LSU is in between all these stories,
- 38:09stealing coaches and making sure that these coaches, and by the
- 38:12way, they promised Lane Kiffin more money to go to LSU for NIL
- 38:17deals. So. 200, yeah.
- 38:19And Lane Kiffin's one of the highest paid coaches in in
- 38:23college, college football now. Because.
- 38:26Because a lot of money in Baton Rouge, apparently, we're not.
- 38:29We're in. On it.
- 38:30I'm only an hour from Baton Rouge and I'm not in on this
- 38:32money. I, I wish I was in on it you.
- 38:35Got to go on the road, you got to go on.
- 38:37The road Errol's just waiting for them to try to build up to
- 38:39the next level where they give any more lucrative deal with
- 38:41John Shire. Please, you know what I do when,
- 38:45when and I'll say this with John Shire and I and A lot of people,
- 38:48they attacked me. I wrote a story about John
- 38:50Shire, comparing him to JJ Redick and and and I put a
- 38:53really and listen, Dan, I get I definitely.
- 38:55Get to see AJ such a bad coach. I know, I know.
- 38:58And I hate JJ too though, that's the crazy thing.
- 39:00I hate, I hate JJ too, but that's a whole nother story.
- 39:03And it's not because I The problem here is when I look at
- 39:07these two coaches is Shire got his job because he kisses Coach
- 39:11K's ass. That's that's why he was there
- 39:14kissing his ass for the last couple of years.
- 39:16I'll sit the bench. I'll learn unto you and I'm
- 39:19going to get this job. JJ Redick kissed Lebron's ass.
- 39:22The LJA, the LeBron James Association, and what did they
- 39:25do? They work on a podcast.
- 39:27His guy has no coaching experience at all, ladies and
- 39:31gentlemen, none. He's never even coached Perry
- 39:34basketball. He played the game.
- 39:36The LeBron James associate. Associate is crazy.
- 39:40You. Got.
- 39:44To copyright that. I, I just, I, I sit here today
- 39:49and I, I watch the way the NBA works now it, it's become, it's
- 39:54a players league. So if let's say Wenby Yami, you
- 39:56know, I, I, we know where Giannis is going next year.
- 39:59It's not even, it's not even debatable.
- 40:01Where's he going? He's going to the Knicks next
- 40:03year. There's no.
- 40:04Doubt in my mind. There's no doubt in my mind.
- 40:06What are you talking about? They don't have enough.
- 40:09Good enough? The the Knicks, unless they pull
- 40:12the LSU. Yeah, you better find some NIL
- 40:15money to. Trust me, the Knicks, if Giannis
- 40:19wants to go to the Knicks, they'll make it work.
- 40:21They'll make it work. Y'all are going to hate me when
- 40:23I tell you that he's going to OKC next year.
- 40:25Y'all are going to be mad at me right?
- 40:27I'd be very interested to see if he goes OK.
- 40:29I'll think it'll work, but I think it'll be great.
- 40:31Oh, they have so many picks it doesn't matter.
- 40:33No, I'm saying yeah, I don't think it'll work, but I think
- 40:35it'll be great. For the I.
- 40:37Mean they trade Jay well you had the other Jay well yeah, and you
- 40:42got well no you probably don't need to put Chet in there I mean
- 40:44Jay wells enough to. Give me draft picks.
- 40:46So yeah, then you just load them with draft picks, like the most
- 40:48draft picks I. Wanted to tell you guys that JJ
- 40:51Redick I have no disrespect for JJ Redick, I really don't.
- 40:55I I thought he was a good six man when he played in the NBA.
- 40:59Pretty good 3 point shooter. Overrated when he was drafted.
- 41:02Never liked him in Duke. He shot too many threes.
- 41:05Never. It just wasn't a guy that I say,
- 41:07oh, that's the guy I want to build my national championship
- 41:09team around. OK, that's the fact.
- 41:11Now JJ Reddick, he has no clue. No clue when he's on his
- 41:17podcast. I listen to that podcast a lot
- 41:20and I listen to Steve. I like Steve Nash.
- 41:22I think Steve Nash would be the what the Nets did to him was
- 41:25pathetic. I didn't like the way the.
- 41:27Next, they're not very smart. OK, I I don't it was because of
- 41:31a lot of different players on that roster too, but I, I look.
- 41:34At Nix. Yeah, it was it was absolutely,
- 41:36I'm going to tell you this, Steve Nash might be the next
- 41:39coach of the Phoenix Suns. I and I believe that might
- 41:41happen. So if, if, if Phoenix decides to
- 41:44part ways with with whoever they decide to part way, I could see
- 41:47Steve Nash taking that job. But because he has that that
- 41:50background behind, you know, the Suns organization.
- 41:53Yeah. So, but my, my argument here is
- 41:56I watched JJ Reddick and I I remember him as a player.
- 41:59I met JJ Reddick three years into his NBA career.
- 42:03Very, very nice guy. He really is.
- 42:05He's a sweetheart as an NBA coach for the LA Lakers, one of
- 42:09the greatest historical teams in professional sports.
- 42:13You get the job because the LJA vouch for you and put you out
- 42:18there and say, you know what? I don't want this guy.
- 42:20I don't want that guy. Danny Hurley.
- 42:22Danny Hurley didn't take that job.
- 42:23The story came out because of Tom Izzo.
- 42:26That came out because Tom said stay in college, don't go to
- 42:29that organization. He's going to kill you and
- 42:31you're going to probably quit before you know it.
- 42:33So and and JJ just sits there with his hands behind, you know,
- 42:36in his lap. He sits there and he talks to
- 42:39LeBron and him and Luca does not like him.
- 42:42You could tell Luca doesn't like him.
- 42:44And I'm telling you right now, when the LJA LeBron, Ron James
- 42:46goes back to Cleveland next year, JJ Redick is going to get
- 42:50fired because there's no way Luka Doncic is going to want
- 42:53that guy on the bench. And then JJ comes out and says,
- 42:56oh, I we have this love. Me and me and Luke are like, we
- 42:59love each other. We're brothers.
- 43:01We know how we. What you see on the bench is not
- 43:04what you get. Yeah.
- 43:05What it. And you believe in the Easter
- 43:06Bunny, too. You believe in the tooth fairy.
- 43:08Is that what you tell your kids? How about did Santa send you a
- 43:11bunch of coal today or last yesterday?
- 43:13Or how about it during Christmas?
- 43:15The fact here is JJ Redick should have never got that job.
- 43:19Now, I'm not saying he's not good.
- 43:20He's better than Shire. I take him over Shire any day.
- 43:23That guy's a deer in. Headlights.
- 43:26He's a deer in. Headlights he can't get, he
- 43:28can't catch a break. So you don't think JJ is doing a
- 43:30good job? No, I don't because you dude,
- 43:33when you, when you look at the. And I'm he got LeBron and Luca.
- 43:37So I mean, I'm what coach can step in and really do anything
- 43:40with them too. I will say this, LeBron and
- 43:43Luca, they don't like each other.
- 43:45You could tell they don't like each other.
- 43:48Here's. Here's the thing.
- 43:50When Luca had his, when he got resigned in the offseason, every
- 43:55single one of those players showed up to that that that
- 43:58media day. They all got shoes.
- 44:00They all were happy. Where was LeBron?
- 44:03Oh, I'm sorry. He's 40 and he's like bigger
- 44:06than life. Like the dude bigger than.
- 44:08The leg like bigger than. Life that's showing up to them
- 44:12that go. Why not?
- 44:13He's a. Kind he's.
- 44:14The leader of the team, is he not?
- 44:17He's got him a text, right? Oh, I'm sorry.
- 44:20Oh, Oh my God. LeBron James sent me a text.
- 44:23What does LeBron need a pair of shoes for?
- 44:25Like, he doesn't. He owns Nike.
- 44:26What does it matter, you know? What I mean, he owns everything.
- 44:29He owns the NBA too. If he wants to buy the Knicks, a
- 44:31couple of. Years.
- 44:32So why you want him to be showing up the signing day?
- 44:35Signing day You're, you're are you a team player?
- 44:38Are you? Did you want Luca Dodges to come
- 44:40to the television? Sports.
- 44:42It's not team though, it's a business.
- 44:44I know you're a giant. I think everybody he knows,
- 44:46LeBron has a good track record of that.
- 44:48So I think we're OK. Can I ask, so can, can I change
- 44:51gears here a little bit? I have a question for you, man.
- 44:54As a Tar Heel, what, what are you thinking about this Hubert
- 44:58Davis stuff? What, who do you think the next
- 45:00coach is going to be like? Who would you want to see as a
- 45:03alum of one of the greatest universities in America taking
- 45:08over arguably the greatest program in NCAA history?
- 45:12Me. Me, Errol, Errol Marsh for sure.
- 45:15I would definitely want to see him step up and and get off the
- 45:19pod and actually get on the bench because these guys.
- 45:22Screaming all the time, man. I'm.
- 45:24Like get your ass on the butt damn court.
- 45:27I like the Yeah, I didn't like the Hubert higher from the
- 45:32beginning. I think that he wasn't the the
- 45:37ideal pick. I thought we was in a phase of
- 45:39like trying to figure it out. I don't think we knew exactly
- 45:41who where we wanted to go with in that direction.
- 45:44I did like the thought of Jerry Seckhaus, but obviously when he
- 45:49went to Villanova and his results there kind of deterred
- 45:53everybody from, you know, picking him as far as as far as
- 45:59coaches. Now it's tough because right now
- 46:04we're in a place where we're not being, we're not able to get the
- 46:07talent that we supposed to be getting out there in the market.
- 46:11And I don't, I never, I don't really understand why we have
- 46:15not only a Jordan brand, but we have second Nike brand and then
- 46:19we have Carolina. Like when you go on campus and
- 46:22you see the, you know, the banners and the the aura that
- 46:25Carolina brings, It's just like how we missing out on all these
- 46:29top recruits. So the names that I would say
- 46:35that, you know, Stephen A has been throwing Kenny Smith out.
- 46:38I'm not sold on that. I don't believe that Kenny Smith
- 46:41can actually coach. I think that those type of Kenny
- 46:45Smith would be somebody far as like a a player personnel coach
- 46:48or, you know, a consultant role or whatever, But I don't know.
- 46:54I don't it's it's interesting to see who could possibly be an
- 46:59option for for Carolina because the team itself is like kind of
- 47:05a little bit of talent little bit there.
- 47:07I think Caleb's gone. So it's like who's the next
- 47:10yeah, so who's the next big deal there that we can, you know,
- 47:15sell in regards to get another recruits there and then we
- 47:20didn't finish well in the tournament up by 20 then get
- 47:23knocked out. You can't have that happen.
- 47:26So I don't know who who from your who you think would be a
- 47:30good fit. I don't really have a name that
- 47:33I would like that makes sense. It's more so like it's going to
- 47:37take one to two years to figure out whether this is the right
- 47:39coach or not. Well, that's not that's not the
- 47:42Carolina way. This thing's got to turn around
- 47:44next year you got. To get to this is.
- 47:46Where you work, it's like, so names that I've heard that enjoy
- 47:51that that they would like to talk to, right?
- 47:54They are no longer going the Carolina way in essence of that
- 47:57Carolina coaching tree. They are deciding to go 180 and
- 48:01go away from that. Right?
- 48:03Yeah. And you know, Brad Stevens was
- 48:05the first name that they called. I don't think they're going to
- 48:08be able to get Brad Stevens out of, I mean, out of Boston.
- 48:10I think he's so entrenched for the Celtics, like it's hard to
- 48:14see. How he was.
- 48:16Entrenched for the bucks. I think you could probably pull
- 48:19him out of there or if he was in like, I don't know, just pick a
- 48:22Minnesota, you know, then he would.
- 48:24Or Sacramento, then yeah, he would be like, OK, well that's a
- 48:27good step. But he's with the number one
- 48:29organization ever, or #2 whatever you.
- 48:31Want It's too good in Boston right now.
- 48:32Yeah, it's too good. It's too good.
- 48:33They're winning championships. I just don't see that as a
- 48:35situation now. Jerry Stackhouse was a name that
- 48:38was mentioned. He's an assistant for the
- 48:39Warriors right now. And Stackhouse, it's not that he
- 48:43was great, but he could argue that he did.
- 48:45He did as much as he could with the resources he was giving in
- 48:50the talent pool he could pull from in a very competitive
- 48:53conference, right? He could say that all those
- 48:55things and he says, well, give me the Carolina deal with the
- 48:59NIL and the bump and the the staff and all those things.
- 49:02And you know, a campus that cares.
- 49:05I'm not saying not saying Vandy doesn't care, but it's not
- 49:08Carolina. I think all all of us are
- 49:10listening. Carol be 1,000,000% Vandy
- 49:13Carolina basketball are not the same thing, right.
- 49:16So though, so that's a name that was around it.
- 49:20Now Dusty Mays, another name that they were throwing around
- 49:23over in Michigan. I don't think after one year
- 49:25because Michigan and Carolina right now are very similar jobs.
- 49:29So that could be, you know, something There was I I know
- 49:32some I don't. I didn't really believe this.
- 49:34When they said Will Wade, I was like, there's no way.
- 49:35Will that would be so? Funny, there's no way that
- 49:37Carolina would ever hire Will Wade.
- 49:39Ever. Ever, ever, right.
- 49:42So it's, it's interesting to see.
- 49:44I think ultimately they're going to end up with someone who
- 49:48honestly could be like a Pitino, not Rick.
- 49:50Bobby could be somebody like that that could come in and
- 49:53somebody that they you just don't think is a Carolina guy
- 49:56and. You don't think they would go
- 49:58younger? Like more younger?
- 50:01It's tough to go. More like yeah, I I get it when
- 50:04I. Just can't just throw a first
- 50:06year coach or a guy whose career is.
- 50:09More like 4 or five years somewhere established, I don't
- 50:12know who's. Name to it.
- 50:13What name is that? Kevin at BYU.
- 50:17Maybe he, you know, Kevin at BYU.
- 50:19Kevin Young BYU would be great, but he's only coached college
- 50:22for one year. He was an NBA assistant forever.
- 50:25He was a, you know, lead assistant in the NBA, head coach
- 50:28in the G League. Like Kevin be a great option,
- 50:31but he's only coached one year. I don't know if you can have
- 50:34that type of guy over at Carolina.
- 50:36No offense to Kevin, I think he's great, but like Dusty Mays
- 50:40took college teams over and over and over and over and over and
- 50:43over 2 places, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:45So it's. Got a lot of NIL money.
- 50:47He's not going to want to leave there.
- 50:49Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:50I definitely we got NIL money. We just don't use it.
- 50:55That's a problem. Boosters in the contract that we
- 50:58have there is out of control. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 51:00Quick, quick, quick. And all you really need is just
- 51:02to hire somebody from LSU's program and then you might get
- 51:05something going. We need to go down there and
- 51:06consult with them and figure out what what they did to get that
- 51:08boosters to be giving out 91 and $200 million.
- 51:11Worth you can have John Shire if you want them.
- 51:14You don't want them, you can take.
- 51:18What? So I do want to say Billy
- 51:20Donovan has been a name. I would not be surprised if
- 51:22Billy goes there because being in Chicago, Chicago doesn't
- 51:26spend money. They don't go into the luxury
- 51:27tax. They never will.
- 51:30You know, Chicago is one of those teams.
- 51:31If you guys remember, the Bulls are like, they're a Reinsdorf.
- 51:35That is his business, right? Like think about Dolan and
- 51:38Cablevision or whoever owns, you know, I don't know what the
- 51:40actual entity that owns the Knicks.
- 51:42Like that's not Dolan's number one thing.
- 51:44The Knicks, you know what I mean?
- 51:45He's got 10 other things that he does.
- 51:48Reinsdorf, the White Sox and the Bulls and whatever other sports
- 51:51entity he owns, that's his business and he makes money off
- 51:55of that business. So if you're Billy Donovan,
- 51:58like, yeah, you'll always have an OK team, but you guys are
- 52:00going to be a 7-8 seed at best probably moving forward.
- 52:04You're you're stuck in mediocrity.
- 52:05Yeah, well, go to. Go to Carolina and just get to
- 52:08start fresh and just take all my NBA experience and try to get
- 52:12those guys. So like, you know, I, I, I, I
- 52:15wouldn't be surprised if Billy, I don't see it, but it could
- 52:18happen. What about Todd Golden Every.
- 52:22Day in Florida, I would rather take Tommy Lloyd over Todd
- 52:25Golden. Tommy Lloyd, let's tell you
- 52:27that. I would also take Nate Oates.
- 52:28The problem with Nate Oates, though, is that his buyout is
- 52:31huge. There's, it's a $14 million
- 52:33buyout, I believe, until I want to say April 15th.
- 52:38It could be April first, could be April 15th.
- 52:40I think it's April 15th. There's a $14 million buyout.
- 52:43It moves to 10 million after that.
- 52:45So there's a big gap right there, unless MJ wants to write
- 52:47the check. Well, apparently he flew in
- 52:49today. Did he OK, because he might have
- 52:51to write that check if he wants to do that.
- 52:54I would rather if I'm going to go anybody and I have to I'm
- 52:57going to go Tommy Lloyd. I just think he's a he's a he
- 53:00did a great job at Arizona. They have an All Star team.
- 53:02By the way, KOA Pete in this draft.
- 53:03I don't know if anybody's following, but KOA Pete is
- 53:06probably a lottery pick. I love KOA, but like, I think
- 53:10Tommy just from Gonzaga to Arizona, North Carolina would be
- 53:15a normal transition to the next big thing.
- 53:18So it's going to be interesting to see.
- 53:20Obviously I, I don't know, I there's this is the job.
- 53:23Like let's just be real sure. This is the job.
- 53:25It's there's literally Duke, Kansas, Carolina, UCLA.
- 53:30After that you can start ruffling all the feathers you
- 53:33want, but those are the, those are the four.
- 53:35Let's just be real. Those are the four that
- 53:37everybody will go to, no matter who you are or where you're at.
- 53:41So we got it. Yeah, I think, I think that'll
- 53:43be a good pick. I think we got a $14 million
- 53:45too. I mean, Rucker George just won,
- 53:47what, a billion dollar lawsuit? Then it just here another 730
- 53:51for the NASCAR situation. So he got 14 million to spare.
- 53:55Yeah. Everybody's got four.
- 53:57I got it. Yeah, just Purdue Texas game
- 53:59Arrow. Were you checking it out?
- 54:01Yeah. I'm getting sick, man.
- 54:03I'm getting sick. I have Purdue going to the
- 54:04national championship and winning.
- 54:08Iowa just beat Nebraska, by the way, the Battle of the Corn.
- 54:14Right up. You know what I missed a job of
- 54:16Chamberlains ass. You know he missed.
- 54:22He got it. Purdue just saved it.
- 54:24Yeah, he did it 7977. He just saved it.
- 54:27Nice tipping. And that's the game, Purdue.
- 54:29You're safe, Errol. Come on now, safe save my
- 54:32brackets is like. By the way, Earl, did you tell
- 54:35Dave who's winning the bracket? You're winning by 4 points.
- 54:39What do you? Think Dan, Can you tell him how
- 54:41many it takes to win a game? How many points it takes to win?
- 54:44After after the. Sweet you up 4 after the.
- 54:47Sweet 16, I'll be winning my friends, so don't worry about
- 54:50that. You don't worry.
- 54:52About it. And yes, Nate Oates is a Buffalo
- 54:54legend. I I met Nate when he was the
- 54:56coach of Buffalo. Dan, we got to get you on again.
- 55:00Let's get you on more sooner. Let's do it in a couple of weeks
- 55:04when the NBA playoffs start. I definitely.
- 55:06Want to hear? Your take and you're fantastic.
- 55:09You do such a great job with Scout Central so and you're one
- 55:12of the best, so I know you know what you're talking about.
- 55:15Unfortunately, Q doesn't really know much of anything, so.
- 55:19As long as as long as Q is here, I'm here.
- 55:23My guy right there. It's my guy.
- 55:25Oh. Man, thank you, Dan.
- 55:28Absolutely. I appreciate you guys.
- 55:29For coming over, man, it was a pleasure.
- 55:31Dan Purcell, fantastic as always, gives us great takes.
- 55:36He knows his basketball and I love, yeah, I love going back
- 55:40and forth with Q, but Q's losing his mind.
- 55:43I think there's something going on in that, that head of his,
- 55:46maybe he's going senile. I don't know.
- 55:49What happened? Alzheimer's maybe?
- 55:50That we'll give you that. We'll give you that information.
- 55:55I don't know, maybe it's you shaking your head over and over
- 55:57and over again. Anyways, maybe I'm watering your
- 55:59ears or something. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 56:01we call this Let's parlay. Parlay.
- 56:12It's time for Let's parlay. All right, if everybody has not
- 56:18listened to this, this segment, it's pretty simple.
- 56:21Wes is one of our best parlay guys, one of our best hot
- 56:25handicapped guys. He's one of the best in the
- 56:26industry, especially with the Canadian Football League.
- 56:30He's always over 60% and he he really always hits on most of
- 56:34his bets. So ladies and gentlemen, he's
- 56:36going to give you his three top bets and he's going to give you
- 56:39one for one extra one for his parlay.
- 56:41Wes, you ready? Yeah, Can I give you one for
- 56:45what just started is it can I do that money line in Houston all
- 56:50year, the one that played for basketball team to watch?
- 56:53I live in Big 12 countries. I'm an Illinois money line and a
- 56:59half points. The Illinois is a bit much in
- 57:04the last three or four games where they face where they play
- 57:09it's they they stop they they smashed Iowa State, Arizona.
- 57:17I mean they play in a tough conference, but you still can
- 57:19come up small when they need to score points and they will need
- 57:23to score points going on the the odds makers might be looking
- 57:27back at the big 10 tournament, but this game just started it's
- 57:30it's two to nothing Illinois, but I think Illinois is going to
- 57:33win this game out right now. I'm glad that we got on when we
- 57:35did, so I can call that one out. They're.
- 57:37Going to recreate a new graphic for the skull again.
- 57:42No, no, in fact, we're going to have to retire them.
- 57:45And you know what? It's terrible because in our
- 57:47group chat I do skull and with them together, but no I'm not.
- 57:54Give us your number two, my friend. #2 We're going to go
- 57:57tomorrow and I'm going to do something a Buckeye fan should
- 58:01never do, but I'm going to lay 9 1/2 points on the team up north.
- 58:04I believe that the Wolverines are going to cover that.
- 58:06Alabama has been banged up for weeks, a month.
- 58:09They have some off the court drama taking place.
- 58:11They can score a lot of points, but they can sometimes come up
- 58:14small defensively. And I think that the team up
- 58:18north, the team from Ann Arbor, the Wolverines, as Urban Meyer
- 58:21would say, they they're just far superior off the boards in terms
- 58:27of rebounding and defense than this SEC team they're going to
- 58:30play against. Right now we're seeing a clinic
- 58:32that the Big 10 is putting on in in this tournament.
- 58:35All right, give us your #3. I'm going to take it.
- 58:39I'm going to take another favorite and I'm going to lay
- 58:41the 1 1/2. And I know that most of the
- 58:43betting public doesn't agree. Right now, 53% of the action is
- 58:47is on Michigan State. People are taking the Spartans,
- 58:51and I'm now finding value laying 1 1/2 on UConn.
- 58:55It's a coaching matchup. And you probably could flip a
- 58:58coin. You know the guy of today, the
- 58:59guy of yesterday. But you know, Yukon is still
- 59:02Yukon. That Big East is is really, to
- 59:06me, it's the most fun conference to watch.
- 59:08But I like Yukon to show up in this tournament.
- 59:10In the past couple years, that coach has had them in the right
- 59:14position more often than whatever nostalgia we feel for
- 59:18for Izzo and laying a point and a half.
- 59:20If I would have told you two years ago, a year ago you'd have
- 59:23an opportunity to lay only 1 1/2 and take Yukon in a Sweet 16
- 59:27game, you'd probably do it. Yukon is going to win by a point
- 59:31to half. All right, give us your final
- 59:33pick of the night. This is the final.
- 59:37I'm taking a dog and I'm right there with the public.
- 59:41And the scary part is 63% is doing the same thing that I'm
- 59:45doing. So I'm really square here.
- 59:48But I'm, I'm going to take Saint John's and I'm going to take the
- 59:516 1/2 points. Duke has been off to some slow
- 59:54starts. If you put the coaches up
- 59:56against one another, I think that we have the, we have the
- 59:59better coach on the side of Saint John's.
- 1:00:01I don't care where Shire is going.
- 1:00:04I, I care what we've seen out of out of Saint John's.
- 1:00:07And that was they, they almost lost that game to Kansas.
- 1:00:12Forget Homer. I am not a Jayhawk fan.
- 1:00:14My family is and I live here but.
- 1:00:17They almost lost that game to Kansas because they they just
- 1:00:20thought they had it under control.
- 1:00:21But what the way that they were able to shut down a team that
- 1:00:25can beat you a lot of different ways in that Jayhawk team.
- 1:00:28They we could talk for an hour about how broken The Jayhawks
- 1:00:31are and how Bill Self needs to go.
- 1:00:33But what what St. John's did to them and the way
- 1:00:37that they shut them down is far superior than any type of any
- 1:00:42type of approach Duke is going to show up with.
- 1:00:44And Duke has gotten off to some slow starts.
- 1:00:46You got a week off to get ready for a matchup.
- 1:00:49Which coach do you want? St.
- 1:00:51John's is going to cover the points.
- 1:00:52I don't know that they win, but 6 1/2 is too many.
- 1:00:55I want to say something, I want to apologize.
- 1:00:58I have not reached out to you over the last couple of weeks.
- 1:01:00I've been very sick. So we'll talk.
- 1:01:03I'll definitely reach out to you over the weekend.
- 1:01:05You know, I love you, man. And it's just been really,
- 1:01:07really hard what I've been dealing with.
- 1:01:08So the guys know what I've been doing.
- 1:01:11And, and dealing with I, I'm here, man.
- 1:01:14I mean, I I don't want you to be going through any hard times.
- 1:01:17Man, I can't even tell you, I have to.
- 1:01:19I have to speak to. You off air?
- 1:01:21Yeah, pick up the phone when you need to.
- 1:01:23I'm up at 4:00 AM, which is equal to 5:00 AM your time.
- 1:01:26I know, I know, man. I love you and thank you for
- 1:01:29joining us. Yeah, good talking to you guys.
- 1:01:33Worldwide OS. He's always sensational.
- 1:01:36He gives you a lot of lot to think about when it comes to his
- 1:01:39picks, and he does that also on Money Line Mania.
- 1:01:43And by the way, just so everybody knows, Money Line
- 1:01:45Mania, what they're doing right now is ridiculous.
- 1:01:49Going into the month of April, we have one more week of Money
- 1:01:52line Mania. They are over 84 percent, 84% of
- 1:01:57their picks. So think about that anybody that
- 1:02:01listens to money line mania on one O 3.9.
- 1:02:03It almost guarantees you winning money, almost guarantees you
- 1:02:07winning money. So you should be listening to it
