- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day According to the Roman Missal before 1955.
- 0:07The Feast of Saint Pantaleon, July 27 in the year of our Lord 2026. Ecnicomedia, says the Roman martyrology, was murdered Saint Pantaleon, a doctor who, having been arrested on account of his faith by order of the Emperor Maximian, was tortured on the rack and burned with flaming torches. He was consoled in his torments by an apparition of our Lord. The sword put an end to his glorious combat.
- 0:49This was under Diocletian about the year of our Lord 303. Saint Pantaleon is numbered by the Greeks among the great martyrs. Medical men honor him after Saint Luke as their principal patron. He is one of the 14 auxiliary saints. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
- 1:24The introit. The just shall rejoice in the Lord and shall hope in him. And all the upright in heart shall be praised. Hear, O God, my prayer when I make supplication to thee.
- 1:41Deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. The just shall rejoice in the Lord and shall hope in him and all the upright in heart shall be praised. The Collect, let us pray.
- 2:16Grant we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that by the intercession of blessed Pantaleon, thy martyr, we may be both delivered from all adversities of the body and cleansed from all evil thoughts of the mind. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to Timothy. Dearly beloved, be fixed thy mind on Jesus Christ sprung from the race of David who has risen from the dead.
- 3:07That is the gospel I preach and in its service I suffer hardship like a criminal. Yes, even imprisonment. But there is no imprisoning the word of God. For its sake, I am ready to undergo anything for love of the elect that they, like us, may win salvation in Christ Jesus and eternal glory with it. But thou hast closely followed the schooling, the guidance thou hast from me in firm resolve, in faith, in patience, in love, in endurance.
- 3:56All my persecutions and suffering such as those which befell me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I underwent and yet the Lord brought me through them all safely. And indeed all those who are resolved to live a holy life in Christ Jesus will meet with persecution. The gradual. When the just man shall fall he shall not be bruised for the Lord put his hand under him, he sheweth mercy, and lendeth all the day long and his seed shall be in blessing.
- 4:45Alleluia, alleluia. He that followeth me walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life eternal. Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, What is veiled will all be revealed.
- 5:14What is hidden will all be known. What I have said to you under cover of darkness, you are to utter in the light of day. What has been whispered in your ears, you are to proclaim on the housetops. And there is no need to fear those who kill the body but have no means of killing the soul. Fear him more who has the power to ruin body and soul in hell.
- 5:46Are not sparrows sold two for a penny? And yet it is impossible for one of them to fall to the ground without your heavenly father's will. And as for you, he takes every hair of your head into his reckoning. Do not be afraid then. You count for more than a host of sparrows.
- 6:12And now whoever acknowledges me before men, I too will acknowledge him before my Father who is in heaven. The offertory. O Lord, thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones. He asked life of thee, and thou hast given it to him. The secret.
- 6:44May our devotion be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, and may it be rendered salutary for us by the prayer of him for whose festival it is offered through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise.
- 7:59Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
- 8:21The communion. If anyone is to be my servant, he must follow my way. So shall my servant too be where I am. The post communion. Let us pray.
- 8:42Refreshed by participation in the sacred gift, we beseech thee, O Lord our God, that through the intercession of blessed Pantaleon, thy martyr, we may ever experience the effect of the worship we perform through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen. Saint Pantaleon, pray for us.
