- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to College Football Addiction. Presented by PrizePix. More
- 0:03Speaker 1: on them in just a moment. But Zach Smith, Minister
- 0:07Speaker 1: of Sports, and we've got the game of the year
- 0:09Speaker 1: this year.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Game of the year, right?
- 0:11Speaker 1: It's easy to say that in week two. But it
- 0:13Speaker 1: looks like it so far, and we'll see what happens
- 0:15Speaker 1: with other games. But I was talking to– I literally
- 0:19Speaker 1: just got off of one of these with Jerry Hamilton
- 0:22Speaker 1: over at On Texas Football. Does a great job. And
- 0:24Speaker 1: so I'll link that at the end so people can
- 0:26Speaker 1: watch it. But I told him, I said, I think
- 0:28Speaker 1: this game is more important for Texas overall, just being
- 0:31Speaker 1: at home the way that last year went. I think
- 0:33Speaker 1: their tech, their schedule is really tough to just like
- 0:36Speaker 1: Ohio state. It's probably the toughest new schedules in the country.
- 0:38Speaker 1: The narrative around Sark, not winning games that, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: maybe they should win. But it is massively important for
- 0:46Speaker 1: both teams. I do wonder if, that pressure on Texas
- 0:49Speaker 1: almost gives Ohio state an advantage to just, Hey man,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you're going on the road and playing, play, go, go
- 0:54Speaker 1: play loose. We won this last year. Like, I wonder
- 0:57Speaker 1: how that impacts it. And I knew as a former coach, like,
- 0:59Speaker 1: do you feel like that plays into things or not really?
- 1:03Speaker 3: No, I mean, it's, you get in games like this
- 1:05Speaker 3: and it's, I mean, it's a Superbowl. I mean, and
- 1:07Speaker 3: as much as you want them to play loose, you
- 1:09Speaker 3: want to, you want that looseness to come from confidence. And,
- 1:12Speaker 3: and so there's not a really a way to, to
- 1:16Speaker 3: make this seem like it's not critically important. I mean,
- 1:20Speaker 3: you look at Ohio State's schedule and they have, what,
- 1:21Speaker 3: I think, three games, three top 10 opponents, and you
- 1:25Speaker 3: add in USC as a top 15 opponent. They pretty
- 1:29Speaker 3: much all are critical. Now, if you win one, they
- 1:32Speaker 3: become less critical because you've got to go two and
- 1:34Speaker 3: two in those games, right, to make the playoffs. And
- 1:37Speaker 3: so if they beat Texas, that matchup at Indiana is
- 1:40Speaker 3: going to be a little less stressful because you have
- 1:42Speaker 3: two to give still. But you've got to figure this
- 1:45Speaker 3: game right here Think about last year. I mean, Ohio
- 1:47Speaker 3: state and Texas both went into that game and come
- 1:51Speaker 3: to find out Texas lost that game. And you would
- 1:53Speaker 3: probably say, all right, you're okay though. You got, you
- 1:55Speaker 3: got two to give still. And granted one of them
- 1:57Speaker 3: was Florida, which was inexcusable, but then they dropped two more.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And it's like, no, that Ohio state game was pretty
- 2:01Speaker 3: freaking critical. You win that early matchup like LSU just
- 2:05Speaker 3: did against Clemson. And you're like, all right, who like deep,
- 2:08Speaker 3: deep breath. Like we, we passed one test and we
- 2:10Speaker 3: haven't given one of our chips up yet. And I think, Now,
- 2:14Speaker 3: if we're talking about pressure on coaches, oh, I think
- 2:17Speaker 3: this is far more important for Sark because Sark doesn't
- 2:20Speaker 3: win shit. And he loses games he's not supposed to.
- 2:23Speaker 3: And he hasn't won an SEC championship. He hasn't won
- 2:25Speaker 3: a national championship. And Ryan Day's beat his ass twice.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And this one's at home in a great atmosphere. I
- 2:32Speaker 3: think there's a lot of pressure on Sark because if
- 2:34Speaker 3: they lose again this year, my concern for them is,
- 2:37Speaker 3: They start to lose the locker room because it'll feel very,
- 2:40Speaker 3: very reminiscent of last year where they lost to Texas.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And then they'll be looking at the program and the
- 2:45Speaker 3: head coach like, damn, maybe you're not it.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels like an all in year for Texas.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And I feel like there's very few programs where that
- 2:54Speaker 1: is the case. Like, I think, you know, Ohio State,
- 2:57Speaker 1: Indiana last year playing, you're playing with some house money.
- 2:59Speaker 2: If they don't win it all, it's fine. Plus, it's Indiana.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Ohio State won two years ago.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Nobody's firing Ryan Day if they go 11-1 and lose
- 3:06Speaker 1: in the semifinal.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Some of your fans are kind of crazy, though, so maybe.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But with Texas, they're all the way in.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I think Oregon's that way. They're all the way in.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And there's only a few.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I feel like most people understand there's a lot of
- 3:21Speaker 1: other people playing a lot of money. If they don't
- 3:23Speaker 1: do it this year with Arch and what they did
- 3:24Speaker 1: in the portal and Simmons and all those guys, it
- 3:27Speaker 1: does start to feel like dude, if not now, then when,
- 3:30Speaker 1: you know, like, and I know coaches go through that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I mean, you've been part of staffs. Like it, sometimes
- 3:35Speaker 2: it's a hump you got to get over.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that landing or Sark or any
- 3:37Speaker 1: of these guys like can't do it, but that question
- 3:40Speaker 1: does start to come up of like, okay, man, how
- 3:42Speaker 1: many more resources do you need?
- 3:44Speaker 2: Like you got to go win games in the playoffs.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Absolutely. And I think you also, there's something to be
- 3:49Speaker 3: said about having a really good quarterback, though. I would
- 3:52Speaker 3: contend that arch is pretty above average and way overhyped,
- 3:56Speaker 3: but you have that, quote unquote, big time quarterback in
- 4:00Speaker 3: what's likely his final year. That's Dante Moore at Oregon.
- 4:03Speaker 3: That's CJ Carr at Notre Dame, Julian Stanton at Ohio State,
- 4:06Speaker 3: Arch at Texas. I mean, I wouldn't put them in
- 4:08Speaker 3: the same category, but then, you know, Georgia and there's
- 4:11Speaker 3: a couple other schools that have a veteran guy that's
- 4:14Speaker 3: not in that category. And I think it's, I mean,
- 4:17Speaker 3: you're looking at it like, man, this, it better happen
- 4:19Speaker 3: now because unlike with Quinn Ewers, where you had Arch
- 4:22Speaker 3: in the wings, I don't know if you have the
- 4:24Speaker 3: next number one player in the country, just waiting to
- 4:27Speaker 3: take the reins of an offense. Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 1: When you look at this matchup, the first thing that
- 4:31Speaker 1: comes to mind and we talked about in the off
- 4:33Speaker 1: season is the offensive line and what that looks like
- 4:36Speaker 1: up against one of the better defensive fronts that they'll
- 4:38Speaker 1: see all year. Um, I, do you feel any, I
- 4:42Speaker 1: don't know if you remember what you said, but, uh,
- 4:44Speaker 1: you didn't say nice things.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'll say that when I.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Asked about the offensive line of the off season, where
- 4:49Speaker 1: we had today on, uh, on September 9th.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I mean, they figured out their left tackle position. Not
- 4:54Speaker 3: that we'll, Like anything, we'll find out how good they are.
- 4:57Speaker 3: They played Ball State. We'll see when they play a
- 4:59Speaker 3: real team. But the concerning part was their right tackle
- 5:03Speaker 3: was abysmal the first two drives. Shit, the first play
- 5:05Speaker 3: of the game, he went the wrong way. They were
- 5:07Speaker 3: going to stretch to the right. He went to the left.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I'm like, dude, it's play one of the season. You
- 5:12Speaker 3: talk about foreshadowing what's to come. And he got benched
- 5:15Speaker 3: after the second series. They still have issues that they're
- 5:17Speaker 3: trying to work through. I think they have figured out
- 5:21Speaker 3: what their next attempt is. at an offensive line looks like,
- 5:26Speaker 3: but this is a different beast. And I mean, fortunately there's,
- 5:29Speaker 3: they're loaded on the defensive line. So it's not like
- 5:30Speaker 3: these guys are going to be shocked by some like
- 5:33Speaker 3: supreme talent that they've never seen. But yeah, I'm still concerned.
- 5:36Speaker 3: The only solace I found this off season was I
- 5:39Speaker 3: did an art. I did a film series breakdown in
- 5:42Speaker 3: August of like the top 10 quarterbacks in college football.
- 5:45Speaker 3: And just one by one, you know, a couple of
- 5:47Speaker 3: days in between broken, broke down the quarterback film. And
- 5:50Speaker 3: the most glaring thing I saw out of all of it,
- 5:53Speaker 3: was Texas' O-line might have been worse last year. They
- 5:55Speaker 3: were atrocious on the offensive line. Now, unlike Ohio State,
- 5:59Speaker 3: who took zero transfers, they took a handful of transfers
- 6:01Speaker 3: trying to plug the holes. So I question Texas' O-line
- 6:05Speaker 3: just as much as I question Ohio State's.
- 6:09Speaker 1: What about on the other side, just the matchups that...
- 6:14Speaker 1: this game presents, whether it's Sanchez and Coleman or Smith,
- 6:18Speaker 1: like that part is fun. Even for a while. I mean,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you gotta love that, like with your background, but like
- 6:23Speaker 1: the matchups in this game, but obviously, you know, I
- 6:26Speaker 1: didn't even mention, but the best player in the game
- 6:28Speaker 1: and the sport, uh, on the other side of wide
- 6:30Speaker 1: receiver and then we can go and even really the, the,
- 6:32Speaker 1: the skill positions all over, right. Whether it's arch or saying,
- 6:35Speaker 1: or Hollywood's mothers or bow, or it is, it is
- 6:38Speaker 1: insane how much skill talent there is in this game.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Like ridiculous.
- 6:42Speaker 3: There's some superstar names, you know what I mean? Some big,
- 6:44Speaker 3: big name guys. I'm definitely, I don't want to say
- 6:46Speaker 3: I'm excited about it, but I think the storyline is
- 6:48Speaker 3: going to be Colin Simmons and, and, and what Ohio,
- 6:52Speaker 3: Ohio state has a first time starter and a left
- 6:55Speaker 3: tackle and a kid that got benched against ball state
- 6:57Speaker 3: at right tackle. Like that's, that's not the greatest of
- 6:59Speaker 3: scenarios to go block Colin Simmons. But so I think
- 7:02Speaker 3: that's a big storyline. Obviously the two receivers from Texas,
- 7:06Speaker 3: Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo going against the secondary that
- 7:08Speaker 3: I think has a chance to be really good. I mean, they,
- 7:12Speaker 3: Devin Sanchez has leveled up a pretty significant level from
- 7:17Speaker 3: last year to this year. He played a bunch as
- 7:19Speaker 3: a true freshman, mostly on third down. But, I mean,
- 7:22Speaker 3: meaningful snaps. He started every third down against Texas in
- 7:25Speaker 3: game one last year. And then Jermaine Matthews, I think,
- 7:27Speaker 3: really leveled up his game. So I think the secondary
- 7:29Speaker 3: is going to be fun to watch against Arch and
- 7:31Speaker 3: those receivers. But I'm more– you know, and I told
- 7:33Speaker 3: you this before the show, I'm more early in the year.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I'm more into coaches because like, we don't know what
- 7:37Speaker 3: anyone is yet. Like even Cam Coleman, like we know
- 7:40Speaker 3: he's a good player, but how good he might be
- 7:42Speaker 3: as good as Jeremiah shit, maybe better. We don't know.
- 7:44Speaker 3: We have no idea what he is, but the coaches,
- 7:46Speaker 3: we know what they are. And so I'm really, really
- 7:49Speaker 3: excited to see what Matt Patricia does to Arch Manning.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Like what is his plan to attack Arch Manning to
- 7:55Speaker 3: take those receivers out? And even the thing that I
- 7:57Speaker 3: keep bringing, going back to that, that I don't feel
- 8:00Speaker 3: like no one is talking about, is the fact that
- 8:02Speaker 3: Steve Sarkeesian is a whiny, blaming baby. He blames everyone
- 8:06Speaker 3: for something. He blamed last year not making the playoffs
- 8:08Speaker 3: because they had to play Ohio State, neglecting the fact
- 8:11Speaker 3: they lost to a terrible Florida team that fired their coach.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And so last year he fired Pete Kwiatkowski. They had
- 8:19Speaker 3: a top 15 defense in the country, and he fired
- 8:22Speaker 3: the D.C. to bring in Will Muschamp, who, albeit, when
- 8:25Speaker 3: he was at Texas 20 years ago, was like a guru.
- 8:28Speaker 3: He was like one of the top coordinators in the country,
- 8:30Speaker 3: but he hasn't called a defense in like something like
- 8:32Speaker 3: 12 or 14 years. And you can point to Georgia,
- 8:35Speaker 3: but we know he didn't call, he was a co-coordinator
- 8:37Speaker 3: at Georgia. And the other side of it that no
- 8:40Speaker 3: one wants to admit, not Texas fans, is he got
- 8:42Speaker 3: demoted at Georgia.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'll get right back to the Ohio State side of
- 8:46Speaker 1: our Ohio State Texas preview. Make sure that you are
- 8:49Speaker 1: on the Price Picks app during this game, before this game,
- 8:53Speaker 1: after this game, Use code HMA. All new users who
- 8:56Speaker 1: play a $ 5 lineup and win will get $ 150 in
- 8:59Speaker 1: lineups instantly. Give me the more on Jeremiah Smith's receiving total.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Sheesh, let's get that right.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Receiving total, I know that he's not historically had great
- 9:10Speaker 1: games against Texas.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I think he does this weekend. Give me the more
- 9:13Speaker 2: on that.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Give me the less on Arch's passing total. I think
- 9:17Speaker 1: that they're going to try and establish the run. I
- 9:19Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if this is slower to start. I
- 9:22Speaker 1: do think there will be some explosives that will make
- 9:23Speaker 1: this tough.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's a big number.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I don't know that I have confidence he does it
- 9:27Speaker 1: against Ohio State's secondary this weekend.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Give me the less on Arch. Give me the more
- 9:31Speaker 2: on Jeremiah, and let's roll. Get on the PrizePix app. Again,
- 9:34Speaker 2: code is HMA. Now back to the interview.
- 9:36Speaker 3: And they'll come back at you with, well, Kirby said
- 9:41Speaker 3: it was because he wanted to watch his son play football.
- 9:43Speaker 3: And I'm here to tell you that's never happened in
- 9:45Speaker 3: the history of football. No one has ever stepped down
- 9:47Speaker 3: from a D.C. job for two years because they just
- 9:49Speaker 3: want to watch their kid and then leave and go
- 9:51Speaker 3: to Texas. That doesn't happen. So I don't know how
- 9:55Speaker 3: good Will Muschamp is. So I want to see the
- 9:57Speaker 3: Ryan Davis, Will Muschamp matchup kind of, and you know,
- 10:01Speaker 3: they did a pretty damn good job. Pete Krakowski did
- 10:03Speaker 3: a great job taking out Jeremiah Smith. He had one
- 10:05Speaker 3: catch the one year and like three catches the next
- 10:07Speaker 3: year in the opener. They did a good job with,
- 10:10Speaker 3: with double coverages, bracket coverages, taking them out. Pete Krakowski's gone.
- 10:14Speaker 3: So it was what's Will Muschamp's plan going to be
- 10:17Speaker 3: to take away Jeremiah and what's Ryan going to do
- 10:19Speaker 3: to make sure he can't moving him around, hitting him
- 10:21Speaker 3: in the backfield, jet sweeps in the slot, all the
- 10:23Speaker 3: different ways. That's what I'm most excited about is kind
- 10:26Speaker 3: of the chess match between Matt Patricia and really arch.
- 10:30Speaker 3: And then Ryan day and, and we'll must champ.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You mentioned the, uh, you mentioned arch there.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think say, and gets a lot of flack for,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you know, people just kind of doubting him, which is fine.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Like everybody, that's what we do on social media now
- 10:43Speaker 1: is we just hate on everybody. 70,000 completion percentage. And
- 10:47Speaker 1: you know, it's like, Oh, but this one thing, um,
- 10:49Speaker 1: which whatever, like everybody has their faults, right? Very, very
- 10:52Speaker 1: few guys are perfect. Um, arch, I feel like maybe
- 10:56Speaker 1: get some name benefit of the doubt. Although there are
- 10:58Speaker 1: plenty of arch haters too. Like, don't, don't get me wrong.
- 11:00Speaker 1: People love to see, you know, great names, great players fail. Um,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I don't know that there's a massive quarterback advantage either
- 11:09Speaker 1: way in this. Like, I think that's, this is not
- 11:11Speaker 1: like a, you know, Like, there's not a Dante Moore
- 11:15Speaker 1: or a Darren Mensah or, like, C.J.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Carr, like, where you're like, ah, that's probably the edge.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I feel like this is pretty wide open for the
- 11:22Speaker 1: guy that can go out there and get the ball
- 11:23Speaker 1: to those playmakers.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think they're in similar– similar places
- 11:31Speaker 3: as quarterbacks. Like Julian gets a lot of criticism, but
- 11:34Speaker 3: I think it's just because of that expectation level of
- 11:36Speaker 3: the quarterback play at Ohio state, because he, he led
- 11:39Speaker 3: the country in almost everything. Like what more do you
- 11:41Speaker 3: want a guy to do?
- 11:41Speaker 2: It's not good enough.
- 11:43Speaker 3: No, not good enough. But at the same time, I'm
- 11:46Speaker 3: probably his biggest critic. Like last year I was not negative,
- 11:49Speaker 3: but just critical, critical of him because in big moments
- 11:53Speaker 3: in big games, I felt like he wasn't like a baller.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Like he didn't go get you a first down. He
- 11:59Speaker 3: didn't extend a play. I mean, in the playoff game,
- 12:03Speaker 3: the pass pro kind of not even break down. It
- 12:05Speaker 3: was good pass pro. He steps up and they did
- 12:07Speaker 3: a great job in coverage. Everyone's covered and he's sitting
- 12:09Speaker 3: there waiting, waiting. He has all the time in the world.
- 12:11Speaker 3: There's no one within 10 yards of him and he
- 12:13Speaker 3: throws the ball out of bounds. And you're like, dude,
- 12:16Speaker 3: go get a couple yards.
- 12:17Speaker 2: It was free.
- 12:20Speaker 3: And that's painful where Arch is not like that. Julian's
- 12:23Speaker 3: a much better passer, much better pure quarterback than Arch.
- 12:26Speaker 3: But Arch is a guy that will, he'll use his feet.
- 12:28Speaker 3: He'll use his athleticism. I think he's a tough kid.
- 12:30Speaker 3: When you watch him on film, he takes hits, he
- 12:32Speaker 3: bounces up. Like, I think that's the difference between the two.
- 12:37Speaker 3: So it's kind of a wash. And I think we
- 12:39Speaker 3: will find out, because I know both of them had
- 12:41Speaker 3: a big offseason. And we saw in the Ball State game,
- 12:44Speaker 3: you know, Julian made a decision to run. His first
- 12:47Speaker 3: rushing touchdown ever was for Saturday.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:50Speaker 3: And it might have been the first time he ever
- 12:52Speaker 3: had positive yardage in a game. But Arch, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 3: then throws a pick, has some inconsistencies, and I know
- 12:58Speaker 3: he balled out against Texas State, but you're expecting perfection
- 13:01Speaker 3: when you play Texas State. Like, Julian was pretty perfect
- 13:03Speaker 3: against Ball State. Yeah. So we'll see. I mean, and
- 13:07Speaker 3: ultimately none of that matters. Like none of that. No
- 13:09Speaker 3: one was in that game. No one went in like nervous.
- 13:13Speaker 3: They just went in like, oh, hell yeah, we get
- 13:15Speaker 3: to win a game, put up stats, have fun, play
- 13:18Speaker 3: in front of a crowd. Now they're both going to
- 13:20Speaker 3: the game like, all right, you got some NFL dudes
- 13:22Speaker 3: all over this field and this is going to be contentious.
- 13:24Speaker 3: It's going to get hard. It's going to get tough.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Are you going to will your team to win? And
- 13:28Speaker 3: that's what we don't know about either of them yet.
- 13:31Speaker 1: When you're in a game like this and there's so
- 13:34Speaker 1: much hype and there's so much expectations for both teams,
- 13:38Speaker 1: having been in those locker rooms at multiple programs is
- 13:42Speaker 1: how much do you have to like, cause you don't
- 13:46Speaker 1: want to scale guys back so much, but you, you
- 13:48Speaker 1: do want them to play within themselves or are these like,
- 13:51Speaker 1: are they able to do it because they've been there
- 13:53Speaker 1: and done it before?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Or like, just talk to me about that. Like in
- 13:56Speaker 2: the locker room, pregame leading up all that.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I mean, definitely kids that are playing for the first time,
- 14:03Speaker 3: this is an experience. And you've got to coach them
- 14:06Speaker 3: through it. I mean, all week long, it's all about messaging, right?
- 14:08Speaker 3: Like you have to make sure they understand the assignment.
- 14:11Speaker 3: And the assignment is you need to do everything you can,
- 14:14Speaker 3: work the game, study film, in here extra. Like this
- 14:17Speaker 3: is a big game. This is a top five game.
- 14:19Speaker 3: You don't treat this– I don't care what any coach says.
- 14:21Speaker 3: This is not the same as last week. Like this
- 14:22Speaker 3: is different. This is a top five matchup on prime time.
- 14:27Speaker 3: And so you've got to put in the work. And
- 14:28Speaker 3: then at the end of the day, you don't need
- 14:29Speaker 3: to do anything other than your job. And you need
- 14:32Speaker 3: to understand your assignment. And you just have to do
- 14:36Speaker 3: what you're supposed to do. And you're going to have
- 14:39Speaker 3: success and you're going to win. You don't have to
- 14:40Speaker 3: do anything extra human. You don't have to do anything spectacular.
- 14:45Speaker 3: You just need to do your job and win your one-on-one.
- 14:48Speaker 3: And that was Ryan Day's whole message this week. because
- 14:51Speaker 3: it is. Jeremiah Smith's not going to win the game himself. Now,
- 14:54Speaker 3: he might have a great game, and he might be
- 14:57Speaker 3: able to make all the plays that he can make,
- 14:59Speaker 3: and that certainly will be a huge advantage for Ohio State,
- 15:02Speaker 3: but he has to understand that's all he can do.
- 15:04Speaker 3: He can just do his job, and everybody needs to
- 15:06Speaker 3: do it together, and just go play. Now, it's going
- 15:11Speaker 3: to be high emotion, high energy. It's not going to
- 15:13Speaker 3: be cool, calm, and collected, like, let's go out there
- 15:15Speaker 3: and ball. The veins are going to be popping. Everyone's
- 15:18Speaker 3: fists are going to be clenched. It's going to be intense,
- 15:22Speaker 3: but you have to, you have to trust your training
- 15:24Speaker 3: and that's all you have to do. Trust your training
- 15:25Speaker 3: and go do your job.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Speaking on Jeremiah specifically, when he mentioned the game at
- 15:30Speaker 1: big 10 media days.
- 15:31Speaker 2: That he was most excited about, it was this one.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I believe he has a total of seven catches and
- 15:35Speaker 1: no touchdowns in this matchup the last two years. Now
- 15:37Speaker 1: Ohio state's won the game. So I'm sure he's happy
- 15:39Speaker 1: about that. Could, I mean, obviously Texas will focus a
- 15:44Speaker 1: lot of attention on him.
- 15:45Speaker 2: And so maybe it'll be another thing where.
- 15:48Speaker 1: He doesn't go off in, in all the stat sheet,
- 15:50Speaker 1: but you know, you win the game because you're able
- 15:53Speaker 1: to get the ball to other guys. But when you
- 15:55Speaker 1: look at a guy like this, that, you know, it's
- 15:56Speaker 1: probably his last time playing them unless you were to
- 15:58Speaker 1: see him in the playoff again, going to the NFL
- 16:00Speaker 1: next year. Like when you look at guys like that,
- 16:03Speaker 1: you know, would you predict that he does have a
- 16:06Speaker 1: good game? Would you say that Texas puts all their
- 16:08Speaker 1: energy there? Like what, what are your thoughts on how
- 16:10Speaker 1: that works out?
- 16:11Speaker 3: I know this much. I'm not betting against him. And
- 16:17Speaker 3: the other side of that is, I mean, I think
- 16:21Speaker 3: what happened in the playoffs when they just bottled him
- 16:23Speaker 3: up one catch for three yards, I think Ryan Day
- 16:26Speaker 3: looked himself hard in the mirror and was like, wow,
- 16:28Speaker 3: that can never happen again. I'm going to have this
- 16:30Speaker 3: kid for three years. I can never let that happen again.
- 16:32Speaker 3: And he never has. I mean, the Texas game, game
- 16:35Speaker 3: one of last season, The stat line looks like that,
- 16:38Speaker 3: but that was not bottling Jeremiah Smith up. That was
- 16:40Speaker 3: a very conservative game plan, trying to bleed the clock,
- 16:44Speaker 3: shorten the game, play great defense, run the football. I mean,
- 16:46Speaker 3: they barely threw the ball. It was more protecting Julian
- 16:48Speaker 3: Sayen and just trying to win that early marquee matchup.
- 16:53Speaker 3: It wasn't that they took away Jeremiah. So I think
- 16:55Speaker 3: Ryan's going to have a really good plan to make
- 16:57Speaker 3: sure they can't. And then part of that is these
- 16:59Speaker 3: other receivers, Devin McCune, who looked really good on Saturday.
- 17:03Speaker 3: He's got to show up. Ohio State has to run
- 17:05Speaker 3: the ball really well if they're going to have a
- 17:07Speaker 3: light box to double Jeremiah. They have to hit the
- 17:09Speaker 3: receivers on the other side of the field to shift
- 17:11Speaker 3: coverage over there a little bit. And if Sark and
- 17:14Speaker 3: if Will Muschamp want to die ensuring that Jeremiah doesn't
- 17:19Speaker 3: touch the ball, then death be to you, I guess.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I mean, you're going to lose the game if those
- 17:24Speaker 3: other things are happening. So at some point, they'll have
- 17:27Speaker 3: to adjust, and then Jeremiah will find a one-on-one. He'll
- 17:29Speaker 3: find his opportunities. And I, I would imagine that's how
- 17:32Speaker 3: the game goes. It's just going to be a back
- 17:35Speaker 3: and forth. Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's kind of a pick your poison, right? Like it's,
- 17:38Speaker 1: do you, do you want to let him get his,
- 17:40Speaker 1: or do you want to let others again?
- 17:41Speaker 2: You mentioned this too. And I thought it was a
- 17:42Speaker 2: great point.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yes.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Could he go out and have the game of his life?
- 17:46Speaker 3: Sure.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I mean, you know, he could do that every time
- 17:48Speaker 2: he steps on the field.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I don't necessarily know that I'm going to look at
- 17:51Speaker 1: his stat line and say, oh, well, this is how
- 17:53Speaker 1: the result went. Because there's a lot of other factors
- 17:55Speaker 1: that come into this. Where do you think Ohio State
- 17:57Speaker 1: has the biggest advantage outside of the coaching stuff that
- 18:01Speaker 1: we talked about?
- 18:04Speaker 3: I think they have an advantage. I think always, one,
- 18:08Speaker 3: their defense looked incredible in week one. And I know
- 18:10Speaker 3: the opponent was shit. But what Matt Patricia does with
- 18:13Speaker 3: these guys and what he did Saturday, he ran– to
- 18:17Speaker 3: not bore you a scheme. He ran a three linebacker
- 18:19Speaker 3: personnel group and a very vanilla defense all game long
- 18:22Speaker 3: against 11 personnel, which is unheard of. You always go
- 18:24Speaker 3: nickel against 11 and he did it. And I don't
- 18:27Speaker 3: think Texas is going to take the bait. They're like,
- 18:30Speaker 3: he could never do that against Texas. But he did
- 18:31Speaker 3: it as kind of like a middle finger to Texas. Like,
- 18:34Speaker 3: I'm not giving you shit.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I'm not even going to put a nickel in.
- 18:37Speaker 3: And so he's the true difference maker. And we'll see
- 18:40Speaker 3: what this Texas offensive line looks like because Ohio State's
- 18:43Speaker 3: D line looks really good. They're deep. And they're rotating
- 18:46Speaker 3: a lot of guys. I mean, they played two true
- 18:47Speaker 3: freshman receivers early in the game, like second, third drive.
- 18:50Speaker 3: They played two young linebackers, you know, the backups. They're
- 18:53Speaker 3: rotating four linebackers. And if they can do that, that's
- 18:57Speaker 3: going to be a really fresh defense. Like really fresh.
- 19:00Speaker 3: They had some young pass rushers that really flashed on Saturday.
- 19:03Speaker 3: So I think Ohio State has a slight advantage defensively,
- 19:07Speaker 3: despite their two receivers. And like I said before, I
- 19:10Speaker 3: think Arch was just above average. But those two receivers
- 19:13Speaker 3: are fantastic. I think they're phenomenal. I think they were
- 19:14Speaker 3: really good last year at their respective schools. And then
- 19:18Speaker 3: I think it's similar on the other side. I mean,
- 19:20Speaker 3: I think Texas secondary is really strong. and Ohio State's
- 19:23Speaker 3: coming in with some dudes at receiver. So I don't
- 19:24Speaker 3: know that there's an advantage, but it's must-watch TV.
- 19:27Speaker 2: That's for sure.
- 19:30Speaker 3: It's going to come down to quarterback play, honestly. I
- 19:32Speaker 3: think if Arch has gotten better and has improved and
- 19:36Speaker 3: is what everyone has always said he is or was
- 19:38Speaker 3: or would be, and Julian takes those few things he
- 19:41Speaker 3: needed to improve on, you're going to have a bout
- 19:44Speaker 3: between two of the top quarterbacks in the country. If
- 19:47Speaker 3: Arch hasn't, I think Julian is the difference.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yeah. when i can't not ask you about this but
- 19:54Speaker 1: how much trouble is michigan in this weekend dude i.
- 19:59Speaker 3: I mean i'm trying not to be biased because i
- 20:03Speaker 3: want them to be in severe trouble But this is
- 20:05Speaker 3: truly a win-win for me and even, well, me more
- 20:08Speaker 3: than you, but you too, because if they beat Oklahoma,
- 20:11Speaker 3: I'm going to be insufferable on it. Insufferable. They lost
- 20:16Speaker 3: to a Mac team and then beat one of your
- 20:19Speaker 3: ranked SEC teams. I think they're in big trouble. I mean,
- 20:22Speaker 3: I broke down the Michigan offense yesterday, and man. You
- 20:26Speaker 3: probably didn't have to work very hard for it. No.
- 20:30Speaker 3: It was like grab a popcorn, pour a bourbon, and
- 20:32Speaker 3: this is going to be fun. it was really bad.
- 20:34Speaker 3: I mean, bad. Their offensive line is not very good.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Bryce Underwood looks like a kid that's never been coached
- 20:39Speaker 3: or is defiant, like doesn't take coaching. And it's so
- 20:42Speaker 3: sad because you watch him throw the ball and you're like,
- 20:45Speaker 3: I really think he's the best. He has the most
- 20:47Speaker 3: talent of any quarterback in the country. I mean, his
- 20:49Speaker 3: arm strength, the way it spins, his athleticism. Like, I
- 20:53Speaker 3: don't know that there's someone more talented than him in
- 20:55Speaker 3: the country, but boy, is he bad. Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 1: For them to not have a running game, And to
- 21:01Speaker 1: not have an offensive line like that shocks me. Like
- 21:04Speaker 1: I thought they were a nine, nine, 10 win team.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I mean, they won nine last year. I thought they
- 21:08Speaker 1: were a nine, 10 win team just solely based on
- 21:09Speaker 1: defense and run the ball. And then it's like, if
- 21:11Speaker 1: Bryce takes any step at all, then yeah, you might
- 21:14Speaker 1: be talking about the.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Playoffs with them.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And my gosh, to, for him to not have taken
- 21:18Speaker 1: a step for the offensive line to have regressed for
- 21:20Speaker 1: the running.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Game to be non-existent. against, yeah, not against Brent Venables.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Like, that's why they're in trouble is because they got
- 21:26Speaker 1: the best defensive coordinator of all time coming to their house. Like,
- 21:30Speaker 1: thank God that game's not in Norman for them because,
- 21:33Speaker 1: my Lord, it'd be a 20-point spread. I think that's
- 21:37Speaker 1: where it's concerning. Now, football's stupid, and so they'll probably
- 21:39Speaker 1: come out and look a lot better this week.
- 21:40Speaker 3: That's what always happens. After week one, a team that
- 21:43Speaker 3: looked terrible, like Clemson's going to make someone like us
- 21:47Speaker 3: look stupid at some point because they'll wake up, they'll
- 21:49Speaker 3: come out of their shell, they won't make the same
- 21:53Speaker 3: critical mistakes and all of a sudden they'll beat someone
- 21:54Speaker 3: and you'll be like, well, that's out the window. Yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Maybe LSU just really was that good. So quick, quick
- 22:01Speaker 1: thought there.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Oh, Dabo's program has been broken for four years. I've
- 22:06Speaker 3: said it every year and LSU looked ridiculous. And I mean,
- 22:10Speaker 3: how could they, they didn't do anything bad. Like everything
- 22:13Speaker 3: they did worked everything. And it was, it was with
- 22:16Speaker 3: brunt force. I mean, that was not, and Lane Kiffin's
- 22:19Speaker 3: always run the ball, but not like that. I mean,
- 22:21Speaker 3: he was pounding the ball down Clemson's throat and I'm
- 22:24Speaker 3: just like, oh my God, make it stop. It's like
- 22:26Speaker 3: watching someone get beat up. You're like, just stop hitting them.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Do you have a score in this one?
- 22:35Speaker 3: I really don't.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I mean, I don't either, to be honest with you.
- 22:38Speaker 3: I mean, I'm going to take Ohio State 24-21 maybe,
- 22:42Speaker 3: but I could see this being so many things. I
- 22:43Speaker 3: could see it being like last year where it's so
- 22:45Speaker 3: low scoring and Such a defensive battle. But I also
- 22:49Speaker 3: could see Ryan Day realizing that was his biggest flaw
- 22:52Speaker 3: last year and why the season ended the way it did.
- 22:54Speaker 3: And he comes out saying, no, we have to kind
- 22:56Speaker 3: of reminisce the Georgia playoff loss where our offense went
- 23:00Speaker 3: for 40 and we were explosive after explosive after explosive.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I think that's what he needs to do. I just
- 23:06Speaker 3: don't trust he will do it.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Fingers crossed.
- 23:09Speaker 1: What do you guys have coming on the channel and
- 23:11Speaker 1: all your content and platforms and everything this week before
- 23:14Speaker 1: the game gets here and then postgame?
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yeah, shoot, now it's Wednesday. So Thursday and Friday are
- 23:19Speaker 3: our big preview episodes. We're going to dive into what
- 23:22Speaker 3: little we can. I mean, I don't really trust analytics
- 23:25Speaker 3: at all until about week six when at least everybody's
- 23:27Speaker 3: played one or two decent teams. But after having the
- 23:31Speaker 3: film studies done, we'll dive into kind of the personnel
- 23:33Speaker 3: matchups and really just my thoughts on the game from
- 23:38Speaker 3: a film perspective. Because this early in the year, it's like,
- 23:40Speaker 3: who knows? I mean, even... The best part is Ryan
- 23:44Speaker 3: Day doesn't know. Steve Sarkisian doesn't know. And then you'll
- 23:47Speaker 3: turn on some analyst like, or Paul Feinbaum. And he's like,
- 23:49Speaker 3: they don't stand a chance. They're going to get blown out.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Neither head coach thinks that. How do you have the
- 23:55Speaker 3: audacity to think that?
- 23:57Speaker 2: Every time. Minister Sports everywhere. He gets back on YouTube.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Oh, back on YouTube. Back on YouTube.
- 24:03Speaker 2: They couldn't keep you off forever. Check them out, man.
- 24:06Speaker 2: We appreciate you a ton for hanging out today, bud.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Appreciate you too, TJ.
