- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: What is up, Bill's Mafia, Bill Buffalo fam.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to another episode of Triple Coverage here.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: We do not have Lance tonight.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: It is just Scott and I although Lance does say hi and he is here as always in spirit.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: But welcome back in today.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be talking about some defensive line.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Just get going over all those guys.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of new faces that are coming in this year kind of rebamped.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be a fun little topic here.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: So Scott, how you doing on this Thursday night.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, dude.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, this is our last show until trading camps start, which is exciting.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: Rookie showed up this week.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think they said, the rookies are there.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then we got what is the next Wednesday is the first day of practice.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: So by this time next week, we'll have some actual kind of football to talk about.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: And if I'm not mistaken, I'm playing on the date that they're going to announce the new, like, the helmet per the bills.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's the twenty seconds.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So what's that?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first day of camp.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, I don't think about it.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: It might be even me the first day of camp, because I know the twenty.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: The twenty fourth is going on.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So either the first day of camp, which wouldn't be shocked if they just have Josh Allen run out and that's the new helmet.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: But still a lot of exciting news going to be coming up in the next month.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: We do have football about exactly two weeks away.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, we have a live football game.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a preseason there on the thirty first.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: So there is football soon live football when it comes to actual preseason.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it's not the bills, I don't know if everybody still likes to at least just tune in.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: See it.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Get just get that feeling again going in as Lance Lance announced.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: See their river works tonight.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: He is tuning in though.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: So shout out Lance.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: He is he is here in spirit as we said.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Shouldn't you be doing whatever you're doing if you try to walk you could have been here like what you're doing.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: he he knew he couldn't be here so he's just so he was missing it so much he had to had to happen to comment so he's but yeah missy lands but we know that lands will be back and we'll have a lot to talk about when he is back here because training camp will be starting so let's just go right in a quick thought so as we always do we only have a few topics this week will start first with bills rookie defensive end
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Landon Jackson was put on the populist of it physically unable to perform list for a neck injury.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't sound too serious or anything.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: So Scott, what are your thoughts just on on them announcing that before the training camp even starts?
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not great that he's doing anything.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: He did have a neck.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it was like a surgery or procedure when he was in college to to fix some kind of an injury.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like what they said is he tweaked it at the past rush summit.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: He was at a couple weeks ago.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't sound serious.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: They're hoping that he's going to be good to go for the first official day of camp next week.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: They had to
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: put him in this category this week, because like we said, the rookies reported.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: So they're hoping he's going to go by the time the whole team gets there.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: But hopefully he doesn't miss any time because, you know, he's a rookie in a bit of a developmental project.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: So he needs as many reps as he can get.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: He hopes not something that that lingers for him.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: You hope it's just, you know, maybe some general soreness there from procedure he had back in the day.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Not ideal, but, you know, not the end of the world.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like he's going to be fine in back soon.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: And he's on the physical active pop list.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, which means they can activate him at any time.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: And he still counts as a roster spot.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: So, you got to imagine, they thought this was going to go a few weeks or longer.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: They would have put him on the actual pop list and brought him up to Gallion, but doesn't sound like he needs to be that.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it's also one of those things where, you know, if it doesn't, you know, by the time you camp and everybody's there, he's not officially ready to go.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little bit of a developmental prospect, but he's still, you know, the brand new playbooks at the NFL game is completely different, so a lot to learn, so even if he's not physically on the field and doing the drills, they still could have
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: him on the sideline learning and and just getting it all the knowledge he can so then when he is back on the field.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's all caught up or at least more caught up than maybe some other rookies are mentally so.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not not ideal, like you said, but not anything that I think we should be too worried about, especially just with something, you know, these things happen during the off season.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: And you see it with a couple players as well.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even one of them just retired, actually, my qualms from the charges were received or just retired, but he obviously has a long history of injuries for him and his career.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, don't think it will be anything too crazy.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Another work, though, for our second topic here.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: TJ Sanders, Sekarampick, has not signed his contract yet.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I believe you said the group to nine have signed now, so a twenty three or the thirty two have not signed.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sekarampick said this.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Sekarampick said not signed.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds mostly like first new.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: They got fully guaranteed contracts, which
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: for some people might be a shock that it's not fully guaranteed for some of these second-round picks and third-round picks.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not a norm for a lot of second-round picks in the past year.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: So this year, two of the first two do get fully guaranteed to know, everybody else is kind of all laying out.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: You're slowly starting to see them kind of come out now and now they're up to nine, like we said.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you kind of think with this?
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think it will linger on with heat-dry Sanders or what do you think when it comes to both the bills aspect and the rest of the league with the second-round pick?
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, basically the two got fully guaranteed money and ruined it for everybody else.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now everybody else wants it historically second round picks have not gotten fully guaranteed the most of their money guaranteed, but not all of it versus both first round picks that that do so.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'll get worked out before camps start, I think.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anybody wants this to go into it because it's not like they're having a hard serious contract.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to sign it from what they're going to sign for.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: They're slotted.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: So the amount of money is already set.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a matter of how much it's guaranteed.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: The bills will come up from their number.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: TJ's camp will come down from their number.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: They'll meet somewhere that they're comfortable with.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: And you'll probably see a lot of second round picks signing in the next few days.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think the reason today.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of already starting to happen, but you don't want it to get in the camp where you miss as any time, because again, another rookie.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: may even be slid to start for the bills this season at that one technique defense of tackle spot or at least we have a lead in the rotation so don't want him to miss any time in camp and I'm sure he doesn't want to either it'll get worked out just a matter of when and agreeing on a guaranteed number that that works for them.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, especially with a guy like TJ Sanders, you don't want him missing time because he's a rookie that
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't start playing football till late in life, compared to a lot of these guys.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I believe it was either his junior or senior year that he, that was the first year he ever played football.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, they did say he, he picks it up early, he picks it up quickly and he the fact that he knows as much as he knows and not having played as long as a lot of these other guys is something that that they definitely looked at.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: But I know we alluded to it a few months ago.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: The, the bills on the YouTube page had a whole thing about the draft and that they touched on that about how
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was a guy that might still be catching up to some of these other guys in the NFL.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so yeah, you don't really want him this in time just because of that as well.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I don't think it will be anything that that will linger on.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: There might only be one second or I'll pick that really linkers on and that's not even due to the contract and due to off the field stuff that we obviously heard and with the Browns there with Quincy on drug jug kids.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, I don't think many rookies will have this laying around much in the camp.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: If it does go on the camp, it might be maybe the first few days, but then, you know, you know, Brandon being charming.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to want these guys on the field.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: And even if it means that they'll cave a little more than they want to cave when it comes to guaranteed money.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, you draft to these guys in the second round thinking that they will play those four years out and they will earn every bit of that money in the second round for the second round pick.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think it will end up being too much time that he misses if he does miss any actual training camp.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully, with by Monday or Tuesday next week, he is fully signed and ready to go.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: But we will see our last topic here is something that comes out every year, came on with the first year that they did this, but every year that they, they don't have it.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been a few years now.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: They come out with top ten lists of positions and the bills ended up having three in the top ten of their positions.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: First one, I don't think it's a shock to anybody, Josh Allen is in the top ten of quarterbacks.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: He was ranked number two.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: I believe it was lowest as four if I'm not mistaken, highest as one, which some of those were kind of funny to look at, even Lamar.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: I saw it was the lowest as six, which to me, at least is crazy to put him.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's if anybody puts that six.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like to me, they should put those lists out of who put them at six and who put them at the lowest, but that's just me.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: But Josh did get number two, James Cook.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: did get number eight on the running backs, which I know is another heavily debated topic is the top ten running back is he not.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: And then the end offense came in at number eight on the tackles list there.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: So three bills did anybody surprise you that they're that high did any of those three surprise you and are any of them shocked that are you shocked that any of them didn't get on one of these lists.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was surprised Benford wasn't at least in the honorable mention part, or even others receiving votes.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: So apparently everybody hates Benford.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: But honestly, you know, good for us.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it gives me any kind of chip on a shoulder.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I was surprised Benford wasn't somewhere in the corner back conversation.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: Aaron Johnson got votes in corner, which I thought was kind of funny because he thought.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: He is a corner, but like, everybody else on the list is an outside guy.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's, you know, under Slack guys that better on there.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's like good for him, but yeah, I was surprised Christian Benford didn't get me well of anywhere, especially after the season he had last year.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like this is a fan list or a media list.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: This is a coaches executives and scouts list.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: So it's people who you would think have watched all of these guys and even though he was a six-year-old pick out of the Lenovo, like they don't like
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: The media may care about that, but the scouts and substance.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: So that was interesting to me.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Josh being second behind my home, I think that's fair.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: He got to beat the man to beat the man, and he hasn't beaten the man yet.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, it makes sense that he's there, and then good for James Cook not to surprise and good for Dianne.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's coming right on the bubble of this list for a while, but in the honorable mentions, and to get him in the top set, the season he had last year, I think that's good for him.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: And like, these lists mean absolutely nothing.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, but it's just something to talk about until football actually starts.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice to see some bills on there, because there were some days where, you know, we were pumped up, we got one guy, I found there,
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: Now we have a few.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: So they're fun to look at, but yeah, they don't mean anything.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, you might even know for some of these guys, like, add fuel to the fire, right?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: See, and all of the coaches, execs, they don't think I'm in top ten, like for Benford, or even a guy like Trilbernaard, or even a guy like Matt Wellano, who I don't malignal, that's a different story because he's been injured and had to start.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, a lot of two years ago before.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: So for him, it's like, well, I got to get back on this list, or I got to get on this list for the first time.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, I mean, I'm not too shocked that anybody else didn't make it.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I know you might hear so here's some arguments for a guy like twelve Bernard or Matt Milano, obviously, but ma'am, I don't know it like I said, I think said a little bit of a different story just because he hasn't had so much time.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: Benford, yeah, Benford is definitely the number one to surprise for me that he wasn't at all mentioned just because especially when you look around the league and analytics, whether it's analytics, whether it's the just the spot on numbers or even if you just watch the tape, it just seemed like he is that number one guy that you look at in many teams should be looking for.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, maybe after this year, if he puts up another great season, which I think all of us are expecting, he does get on a list like this.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, and then I would love to see if they would do like a top five for like nickel corners, because then that would be something where I think like Toronto, and to me, it is in that top three conversation without a doubt for nickels.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I agree, number one, I know that a lot of people have Mac Duffy, but to me, it's between those two are the top two, and you can't go wrong with either.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Josh, number two, I know that some people say, oh, he should be one, he should be one.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: I get the talk about it and thinking it like, yeah, if I'm taking a quarterback right now, based off of the physical stature and what he's able to do on a football field, I think Josh Allen is number one in my eyes.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: But like he said, until somebody in the AFC can knock off my homes, no matter what his numbers are, he's going to be number one.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he had the greatest start to any career for a quarterback.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: He just made it back again.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: I know they got blown out, but still they made it back until you beat them.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I could be above them.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: It was funny they were looking back.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: They had they didn't have last year's list and I think borrow was number two last year.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not mistaken.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that was getting a lot of conversation about how like, oh, how did anybody have them over the top three of Lamar Josh in the homes?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to season the LF here.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: You could have a number of wallet honestly.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, that was the other thing is that those are conversations creates.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we've talked about quarterbacks a while.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: Those are to me, they're the top four, like without a doubt.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think anybody comes close to them.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: James called, like he's a good for him.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: I was a little shocked.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: He did get eight just because again, it's been one season of major productivity.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: Um, major production, you know, where he got the sixteen touchdowns were, you know, usually you don't see guys jump up into that top ten to lay out at least two season.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the thousand yards back to back years.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: But it was a two touchdowns two years ago that he had total.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: Hardly any of the year before.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's very, very optimal.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what they've been smart.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, good for James Kirk at any idea.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't have been shocked if he would have been left off.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: At least the top ten I do think no matter what he should what have gotten honorable mention or some votes in general, but yeah, I mean, I think without the endocrine, he's the leader of this offensive line and without him, I think a lot of Bill's fans would be very scared for Drashale and blindside.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see obviously next year if anything changes, but yeah, I think for the most part not too many shocks, shocking lists when it came to this, shocking at the end of the day, most of these NFL execs know what they're talking about for the most part.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously some teams don't, but yeah, it's, they're always fun to look at at the end of the day when it comes to most of these players, they don't care.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: They don't care at all.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe like I said, some of them might add it to the fuel to their fire, but for the most part, not many of them actually care.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, so that's gonna do it for the for the quick thoughts there.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: As always though if you could as John we'd love you John you always remind us here Do not forget to like share if you're on Facebook share it Twitter Retweeted or sorry quote whatever it is now on Twitter reacts it and then on YouTube like it put the hit the thumbs up
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: if you want hit that bell so you get notifications anytime it's a live show anytime it's a just a regular video as well with that will alert you that there are videos coming up unbuildable as page and the shadow to responses as well monster energy as you see in right below Scott and I always at her tell you it's always providing just amazing support for us and yeah so go go get yourself some monster energy so shout out to our sponsor there
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: But we are here today to talk about the defense line.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about the offensive line, which I did miss last week, but we've talked about what was better.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, today we'll see how it goes.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, we'll, uh, we talked about a bunch of positions as we have do kind of leading in the training camp, but this one is one of my favorites, and I know Lance was really what I'd love to be here to talk about.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know I see him in the comments.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Still, but I know you would have to agree.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's switching back before back and forth between his Facebook and YouTube there.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: You got respect.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Ray Allen.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but yeah, I know that you're you'd love to talk about this because this is a fun one.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the defensive line is something like you said that it's kind of revamped this whole season or this whole off season and Brandon being I think looked at this defensive line said one we got a younger and two we just need some some different energy in here to kind of see what we can do.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to take it off with the defensive line that you can go.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so he mentioned it's revamped and
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: The soft season was very similar to the twenty twenty one off season.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: similar way that season ended, you lost to the chiefs, you know, you had him on the ropes and he just couldn't have put him away.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: And in both of those games, Patrick, my home's had all day to throw in the ball.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then in the Super Bowl, it was the box.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that was the year before, but it was the box who just absolutely got after Pat my homes and made his day hell.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that was what their defensive line.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then the Eagles, his past Super will did the same thing.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't blitz one time in the home to never had any time to throw the ball.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: And they got after him with their front four.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just like they didn't twenty twenty one with drafting boogie bashum and Gregory or so, and then the next year bringing in bond Miller to try to do it.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: They did the same thing here with bringing in a lot of new faces.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: They drafted three defensive linemen in the second three defensive linemen, the second third and fourth round, so all pretty premium picks.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: They brought in a few free agents, including Jelly Bosa, which is the name everybody knows to be that better in past Russia if you can say healthy.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: So Ben, what are your initial thoughts on all the moves?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess your initial thoughts on the D-line, because it is revamped.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: After watching that Super Bowl being the key to winning the Super Bowl through getting pressure on the quarterback as most people know.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: But it seems like he went out this off season and did that.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's, it was the talk.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: I know that everybody was talking about, oh, we need to corner, we need receiver, but it really was at the end of the day defense of wine was the position that they needed to look at and say, where do we want to go here?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: You had Von Miller last year, we kind of knew, okay, he was going to be a cap casualty.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Dequan Jones took a step back, he still is here, but took a major step back from us last year.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then you had a lot of other guys that were just kind of there.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you had Quentin Jefferson who late in the season was brought in.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to bring him back like you Jordan Phillips get brought back again, and I think as much as everybody in Buffalo loves Jordan Phillips, they also know he is well past his prime.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: He is on the downturn of his career.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's almost probably at the end of his career if anything.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's still unsigned that totally can tell you enough there.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I really do like what they did.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's not it's not one of the last seasons where you're going in and you're like, wow, like I have the utmost confidence in this group.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: But compared to last year, it is almost a complete one-eighty for me of how I feel going into this season.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not even just because of the guys that they brought in, but just because of the ink, and I talked about that a little bit, what we started is that I believe the average age is like, thirty-two point eight on the defensive line last year, something crazy high might have even been a little higher than that.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's around twenty-five, twenty-six.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like that is a major difference
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: You bring in some of your guys that can get some juice in there, get some more energy, and are just looking to make a mark on this leak.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: And you also have guys that are coming back that you're hoping to kind of take that next step to Wayne Carter on Solomon.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: So just the overall outlook of this defense of wine, I love what they did.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think they brought in guys that not only fit what the bills want to do systematically, but even culturally, right?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: You have a guy like Joey Bosa who at this point is Kurt,
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Could have got more money elsewhere.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: He probably could have got a longer term deal as well.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: But he said, no, I want to come in.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: I want to still prove that I can be that closer guy that I want to win.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: So you bring him in.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: You bring in a hole.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: Who is another guy who just, again, from Canada, says basically, like he feels like he's back at home.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Loves it here.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then you bring in other guys that like land and Jackson who again, we talked to Adam a few weeks ago, just be a guy that just loved his the game of football.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Dion Walker guy that at one point was talked about to be a top ten pick.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: Get him in the fourth round so see what he can do.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then TJ Sanders a guy who as I mentioned a little bit earlier is a guy that
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: is still learning the game as he's going, but to be a second on pick for a guy that learned the game this late has to say something about his work ethic and just his ability to pick stuff up.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really excited about just seeing these young guys get in there, seeing how they handle their rotation, who can stand out in camp because I think this camp, that's the number one thing I'm looking at this camp is who is going to get after it, who is going to be getting those first team reps.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: So second team reps who they're going to use Franklin in there because it's going to be tough to see who kind of can fight for for snaps once it gets to week one.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of guys coming.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you feel that way going to the camp every year, but this year feels like more so than past years is we're going to talk about it later.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: But there's twelve dudes that you think, okay, like if you're not thinking about, you know, fifty three man roster total, you're just going, well, yeah, you should make this twelve dudes on the D line right now who, you know,
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: think they're making the team and they all do the twelve who you like think realistically will and like you mentioned Quentin Jefferson Jordan Phillips had to bring them in way through the season because and they're before had to bring in winball Joseph Midman through the season because guys couldn't stay healthy and guys were producing like they don't they don't want to be in that spot again this year and they showed that I brought you bringing in three for agents for having three guys and then bringing back the guys that they did so as far as returners
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Greg, you're so coming back out of bag, this offseason, hoping that motivates him.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: He shows flashes at as a pass for us.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: You're great against the run.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully you can step up at all of her.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you know, he's going to be when he's on.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of the best three techniques in football.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully TJ Sanders being that one technique next to him can kind of help him play it.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's best.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Ed does his best when he has a one technique to eat blocks.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: The Quan Jones you mentioned, Sullivan you mentioned.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: The way Cartery mentioned guys we need to see more from the quandroans could be one of those guys who who gets caught in this off season just because like I mentioned there's twelve dudes who think they're making the team and there's not twelve roster spots to the defensive line and then at FNS AJ FNS up
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Free signed him like all last all season.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think you had a disappointing year last year.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: You take out the games against the jets.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think you had one or two facts.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: Got us loves Aaron Rogers for some reason.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: So of that group, you know, pick one or two guys and I guess, you know, what do you want to see for them or how do you feel about the the returners and yeah, this kind of go from there where you see fit.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the one guy that I want to see were turning, that I want to see not only how he's looking, but how the coaching step kind of handles him and extra violence element.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy who was kind of the talk of potentially being a steal of the bills last year, led the FBS in SACS coming out of, I believe, Temple, if I'm not mistaken.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, Troy.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: Troy.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: I knew it was a
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: team that's our team, but yeah, he led that for us, which obviously Troy did not the biggest school, you're not playing LSU, you're not playing BAM, you're not playing Georgia, but still a guy who was a little bit undersized, I know even last year in training camp
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: von Miller had a lot to say about him about how just he he has great hands and he's a guy that that could be a force in his league so I'm excited to see him and take hit see if he can take that extra step even in limited snaps which I believe he only played about twenty snaps the entire season he guy believe got a sack he looked like he was being able to get around
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you would want at least one, I know that, but it was one of those things where he he he looks like he was giving quality snaps and he was playing well in those limited times he was playing and being an undersized guy you kind of really have to show that in your in your limited snaps because
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: This is a league where everybody wants the the Gregory shows the big six foot six the six foot five guys that can move but when you can get an undersized guy that can still move.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it can be a thing that you can develop him correctly in the other areas of the game in the wrong stopping.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: against these bigger offensive windmen in the NFL.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: They can become forces.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen it throughout the history of the league where you have these guys who are under size and they end up going down as some of the great great players of this game.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm very excited to see Giovanni Salomon.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then my other guy, you know, I love him.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: I raved about him last year.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: Dwayne Carter is a guy that I won.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: very curious how they're going to use him because they've talked about him being a one to you.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about him being three to and it's just like with him where do you go because you did bring in so many guys and he wasn't an earlier round draft pick last year.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: He played well before his injury.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: got hurt came back did not look the same at all.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm very curious to see how he looks just because again he looked great before the injury, but can he get back to looking good again.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be the big question.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: So really the two guys that I'm most excited to see are those returning guys.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's a million guys that we could say here, but
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: Solomon and Carter to see them going into their second year.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: See if one of the two at least can make a jump into that second year.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: And solidify themselves as, hey, I'm not going anywhere in this league.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to make my mark.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: So those are the two I'm most excited about.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the bills need them to.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're affordable.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're young and their guys will be here for the next three years assuming all goes well.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we mentioned there's a lot of guys, a lot of mouths to fill in the steel line.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like if they don't have the best camp, like maybe their guys that could be on the trade block.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't think they'll cut them.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, probably try to get like a day three pick for them, but like they need to show out this camp and show that they have developed in the office even because like you mentioned Carter that Texan's game.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was the game he got heard it.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: He looked really good.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then once he came back from his injury, he like couldn't find his way out in the field in front of Jordan Phillips and quit in Jefferson.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: So that tells you something.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then Solomon played well when he got opportunities.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's most of a more in garbage time.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, kind of take the stats with like with the grain of salt.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he had like the highest sack percentage based on snaps to anybody in the league, but
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of it was in garbage time, so we'll see in John makes a good point, we're gonna talk about it in a little bit.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: those two guys we have those suspensions for the first six games so like the young guys are going to get the play because you know there they may have a kind of a like again I'm gonna cut but they're going to be on the roster for sure and on the game they roster for sure over the first six weeks until those two guys open joe being hope come back so yeah need those guys to step up because the bills drafted them and Carter was a third round pick like that's that's a pretty premium picks all of them a bit later but he showed plashes so
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: hoping they can take that next step.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: For me, I want to see more on AJF and Esa.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's the guy who also could potentially be on the, I don't know, people caught him based on guaranteed money, but, you know, maybe they can trade him for a late pick if he doesn't have a good cap, if he hasn't beat out Solomon or Land of Jackson's, what he better than him.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Because he, he'll show flash as he's just inconsistent.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, need to see him kind of bring that consistency up this year and then at all.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: had kind of a down regular season, but in the playoffs he was a monster.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm fine with that, honestly.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: If he's going to do that, that's fine with me.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: But with PJ Sanders in there with some beefier rotation at the one technique, not just the shell of Jordan Phillips and an old Dequan Jones.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see him, you know, maybe it's more one on one matchups and then win those matchups.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because if he gets one on one, he should win that every time.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: want to see more from them and in group we know we talked about him want to see more from the past rush and then I think that's kind of all for for the old guys so you jump it over to the new face is what you got anything else on those.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: Well before we move on to the new guys I do want to bring this comment up from John here kind of an underrated aspect of the bills obviously is always the practice squad.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: Hayden Harris is a guy who out of Montana.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: He did previously played at UCLA.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: Six foot five, two, fifty, five in this past year at Montana at nine and a half sacks.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: Again, not in not a school.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's a massive school.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to keep it simple.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to give it some, yeah, I think the easily could make the practice squad.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: It will just depend again on what they want to do with some of these other guys.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: And if they keep ten, eleven guys on the defensive line, are they going to want to keep another guy in the practice squad over another position that they might say, oh, we're going to be a little more thin at, but we'll keep them on the practice squad in case somebody gets hurt.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see so he's an intriguing guy though like we said like when we talk I just talk about how everybody wants that size at six five to fifty five.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: He had seventeen tackles for loss last year in general so like.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Could he be a guy that that they're stash on the practice squad this year and in two or three years, you know, wearing them up and say, oh, we developed them.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely could be.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I think when it comes to the practice squad, it's going to be tough for a lot of these guys to make practice the practice squad just because you have so many guys that could potentially make it.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to weather its receiver, whether it's running back, whether it's corner, like the ages have so much feels like depth everywhere that some of these guys are going to be shocking cuts.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then on top of it, like, is anybody that's going to want to look at Hayden Harris and say, oh, we'll bring him on the actual team, whether it's like a team like Carolina or whatever.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so it's I think we'll just depend on that didn't want to get to to into that because again, Hayden there as well.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to see how he doesn't camp.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if he does great in camp, maybe maybe he gets better trans.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's really athletic.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like he tests it really well.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: With the suspensions like maybe he gets a practice what's about for the first six weeks to kind of show what he can do because the guys who probably would have been in the practice club will be on the active roster.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think anybody else is going to bring him in on the roster.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's also like he's a developmental project, but he is going to be twenty five this season.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: Little on the older side, so he's probably about as developed as he's going to get physically.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: But he's a really good athlete.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: So who knows, maybe you get him in a spot, he can stick on, but maybe he makes the practice squad.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's, you know, fighting for a roster spot by any means.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so it's for the wedding of guys.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: You mentioned the drafted three of them.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: They brought in TJ Sandin's in the second round, land and jacks in the third and D.O.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: and Walker.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: And the fourth out of Kentucky, Maxwell Harris, then and Ray Davis's college team mate, brought in Joey Vosa, a one-year kind of prove it to himself and maybe the rest of the league deal that he can stay healthy and be that guy that he was and hopefully went a super bowl along the way.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like the Houghton Larry of Jovi, like we mentioned for the age and son names both got popped for
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: steroids or PD suspensions, which we'll talk about what that means in a little bit.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: They're definitely making the team.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: Hope was, I think, a three-year deal.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: Got used to be a defensive tackle.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: No staff.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: It was kind of a bit more to the outside.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Ogon Joe, we just, a straight-up.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, it was tackle.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: One technique is best football.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably behind him.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, maybe he has one last go, and I'm, Joey Bosa, hoping to say healthy.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: And then the new guys, he hoped they saw some flashes.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: So, you excited about this new group?
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: But definitely it feels like there's new juice with these six guys.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, what are your feelings on them?
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, even with the two suspensions to Hoyden and Elb and Jobi, I mean, it's still one of those things where even the new face is just too excited for her.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we talked about the graph and how they really, really looked at it and said, yeah, we need to bring in new faces, but the defensive line and they did, it wouldn't have grounds two through four.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, a lot of people were shocked saying, well, why don't you grab a receiver, what, and you grab a second corner or whatever in those words for rounds, but I like it.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, some of these guys tell a question marks the unlocker as much as I said.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, he was talked about to be a top ten pick.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: He still has his question marks of can he work on staying lower and not staying any six seven.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough for some of these guys like a guy six seven to consistently stay low and then can continue to drive with the legs instead of the standing up and trying to push over.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's not going to work in NFL, which is how it is.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're not in college anymore.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going up against the guys that
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: are never going to play the game of football after they're done in college.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: So when you get to the NFL, can they teach him coming off that back injury?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: Can he still even be the same back injuries or sometimes can linger?
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a guy that, yeah, I'm excited to see him.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm also excited because he's not your typical sixth seven to the defensive tackle.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a guy that, yeah, for sure, he's a one tech.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's not for sure going to be a guy that you just say eat double teams because in college,
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: he was being able to get after the quarterback and he even sometimes had him lined up outside even though he wasn't exactly a super fast guy, but like John just mentioned here, he's twenty one years old.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: That is that is for the NFL unbelievable to bring to the twenty one year old that has the potential I think that you could see with the guy like the ad walker.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's one that I'm for sure excited about and
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, Joey Boatsman, it's hopefully he can stay out as long as he's healthy for the playoffs and for me.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I really am looking at.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's if he can stay healthy in the playoffs and it's kind of how I feel I felt with Vaughan Miller of like, just stay out with the playoffs and make a difference then on third down in the playoffs and we'll be good.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I'll care about.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see how they all pan out, but yeah, low risk, I reward for the dreamy Boats there.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see if he can prove to the NFL that he is still Joey Boatsa.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he already had a calf thing in many camp.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Post me good to go for camp.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I'll fight on next week.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully he got his injury out of the way.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: Wouldn't that be great?
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, if he couldn't be a club eight to ten sack guy, for though, and if, you know, three or four of them come in the playoffs, I think the bills take that.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: every day that we can twice on Sunday.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like that would be awesome.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: The juice is still there.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a matter of keeping healthy in on the field.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, yeah, like you said, it's a low risk high reward signing.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're not getting twenty, twenty jelly bosa, but twenty, twenty five jelly bosa is a little bit younger than Van Miller when they brought him in.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully he still has some left.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited for Michael Hoyk when he
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: is healthy and can play like that guy is just a bull in a china shop.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's strong.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: He runs through like he just kind of blows up the offensive line.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to have tons of finesse moves.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to you know ghost rush outside like the bondwood.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's just going to run through the tackle space and push the tackle back into the quarterback and running back and pull up the play.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's kind of something the bill's d-line's been missing plays with that kind of an edge.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: And you need that like on a third or fourth and short when they're trying to run from the ball and you need somebody just go in and
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not make the tackle, but just blow it up.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: But he's definitely going to do that.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: Ogon Jovi, like we mentioned, we know it will be a serviceable rotation of defensive tackle, probably nothing more than that.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: TJ Sanders is a guy.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: I know the bills are really excited about.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they probably say this to all the girls, but they told them if he was there in the first round, they would have taken them.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: Or if Maxwell wasn't there, they would have taken him in the first.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: So they're excited about him.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: Can get after the pastor, can defend the Ron and you mentioned new wish to football.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was more of a basketball guy growing up, I think they said so excited for this.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: I said it earlier, but the main goal is not to have to bring in Jordan Philips, middle of the season.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: With this group, they shouldn't have to do that.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Kenobi, like we mentioned, suspended for the first six games, could be in big opportunities for guys like Duane Carter, guys like Javanson, guys like Theo and Walker, guys who are maybe more friends, rotational guys, they're going to get real snaps, and they play the Ravens week once, they're going to get real snaps against the real team.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: I guess like what do you thought I'm not much more to say on if the net but there's suspended so if you want to say something that one.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I think this could be an opportunity for especially like when you're talking about week one against the Ravens.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean I don't tell them to play the Ravens they have one goal and that is shut down the run game and force them to pass the ball and against the Ravens.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean when you can shut down the run it works for the bills but when you don't shut down the run it
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: as we saw last year in the regular season.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: It does not go well.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm curious to see if they end up playing a guy maybe, you know, you don't see as much of both a week one.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you do see more happiness a week one.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you see Dion Walker to try to just fill up and take up space to allow Ed to work.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe that's their plan this year.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's going to be interesting to see kind of how they attack it, especially week one without those two.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I kind of like as much as I don't want to see them suspended, it kind of does give the bills like that little bit of an edge of like, okay, well, you won't be able to see us fully healthy and you kind of didn't see them last year, fully healthy and there I go to season.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I was in Toronto, Johnson, Matt Mulan on Antrol Bernard if I'm not mistaken.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, you're asking three key guys and hoisin over Joe, but yeah, there may be not as key as those three I just listed.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, who knows, and maybe by the playoffs, we look at them and say, yeah, they are integral parts of this defense, and they need to be on the field as much as possible.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that could definitely be something.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm definitely curious to see kind of how they attack the Ravens with out those two, especially because Holt could have been a guy that I think against the Ravens could have been huge just to have a guy like you said, just to be able to push to the pocket, make them are Jackson uncomfortable, push back, not let Henry get going, because as soon as Henry gets ahead of steam, and he's going downhill,
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: As everybody has learned over the past ten years, it's hard to stop him.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe, you know, he, he would help me miss, you know, we've been drove as well, just another guy that can just eat up blocks that might be missed, but at the end of the day, it's good to get these guys.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think especially early in their career on the football field, learn from your mistakes.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen it from plenty of rookies for the bills.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they might have a first rough couple weeks, but then from there on, they learn from their mistakes.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Sean McDermond, if there's one thing he knows with the fun scene, he knows how to develop guys.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: And even though they might have rough starts, they usually turn it around for the most part.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, I mean, it's going to be interesting to see how they kind of attack it without these two guys.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: And now we'll work about to get into how many of them keep.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that will definitely play a factor in how many they keep.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's going to get real interesting.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: Once it gets towards week five and six to see what's going on there.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, obviously it's not good that Michael Hoyt, they're probably biggest free agent signing them.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: maybe overall, honestly, at least on the defensive side of the ball.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: Tim and Joey both, you know, kind of the same.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: He got the three-year contract, so we'll give it to him.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's suspended for the first six games.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: And Larry Ogon, Joey, who they brought in thinking would be a rotational guy.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good that there's suspended, but the bills kept ten defensive line in the last season.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they'll keep many more than that.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they'll get it up to eleven if there's a guy that they absolutely don't think will make it to the practice squad or it's like people just play too well in camp.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: We've left out some guys, but we talked about twelve guys who all, like if you're going down the list, you're not thinking about total of fifty-three.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: All twelve guys that we talked about, it's like, is he making the team?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: All twelve of them, you would probably say yes to.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: So they're going to have to make some tough decisions.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean Dequan Jones gets cut?
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean they trade a Duane Carter or an A.J.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: F. and S.A.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: or something like that to try to get a late draft pick and
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: open up a roster spot, but with those you guys being suspended, they can kind of kick that can down the road till week seven, because they'll have the ten spots for those ten guys.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I know this isn't the show, but it makes it like really intriguing when you think about like, do they use a roster spot on Brandon Cottonton this year to just return kicks in puns?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: when they have the defensive line is this deep.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: I personally don't think that they do.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's why they brought in like a shenalt or someone who can return that way or like why Ty Johnson is still around.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: So who do you think?
- 41:20[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take the suspensions out of it for now.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: Who do you think makes it and how many do they keep and does anybody get into
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: First I'll say who I'd want them to not keep if they had to keep like always if we're pretending they're gonna keep ten again and there's these twelve and the suspensions don't matter.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: The quant Jones either way I think one I think he would will be a cut if they decide to cut him early in whatever or even one the six weeks are up they do end up cutting him.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: He would be one that I would say you gotta I mean
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: I loved to go on Jones, but a he last year, man, was brutal for him.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's no easy way to put how he played last year, and he's now what, thirty three about to be thirty four soon, I believe.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: And once you start hitting that age, man, it's not just, you know, the fact that you've played so many snaps.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it doesn't get easier.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're not going to all the side.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's very rare to see players all the sudden have a bounce back year at age, thirty three or thirty four.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: Every once in a while, you'll see a guy bounce back and have a good season after he has a bad one at that age, but it's very rare.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: And as much as I like Dequan, it's just when you have these guys that you think can step up, I don't see why you would end up keeping him.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll maybe they keep him like we said till week six.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: And then they say sorry Dequan, we got guys that we think can do better or who knows what happens to him there.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: But Dequan's one, the other one's tough because the new faces, I don't think you're moving any of them, obviously.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: Those are all staying.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: I personally want them to keep Dwayne Carter.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one that I'm a little nervous that they'll move for like a fifth round pick.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: And just say, oh, we'll cut our losses.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's not living up to what we thought.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the guy that they should move on from his A.J.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: Appanasia.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think if you call up Joe Sheen, you've seen it before.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just try to, having given us a seventh round pick.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even care at this.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_00]: If you can shred the money and I know you might take a little bit of a hit this year, but shred the money and move on and say, sorry, AJ, thanks for your time.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: You were great in Buffalo as it is like a fan.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: There's like a fans love to you for the most part and you just didn't live up to it.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we thought you could.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then the other guy that I'm a little nervous that they might look at and say, oh, we don't have a roster spot for him.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's also driven on Solomon.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know that he has the hyper on the fan base.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: But it was what if it's not late fifth from picked.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm out mistaken, yeah, how much is Brandon being going to look at that and say, do I want to keep a fifth from second second second year guy that, yeah, has looked all right, looked good over guy that knows the system's been there, played in big games before in Adrian.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's my one worry.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: So if I had picked two, I would say up and as I'm Jones,
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: whether it's both cutting them or trying to trade up in us and getting rid of Jones, whatever the two, that's what I would do.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I have just thought in my back in my head that it's Salomon might be that guy that they look at and say, just out of everybody, we've invested everywhere else.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Your undersized can you really turn into what we think you can turn into?
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: You're a fifth round pick or just going to fight the bullet.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's my only fear here is that that's what they're going to do with Salomon.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think you, if you, I think Solomon Carter Jones and Epidesa are before that could potentially get the axe.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think any of the new guys will either, unless like, one of them just has a tear.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: But he, like, you're not going to cut a second or third round pick, even if they have a bad can.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not a fourth round pick.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I was, I, I was going to joe be, sorry, last night before you.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_00]: Open joe be is the one that I could see just because one they didn't know about this suspension.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: They knew about it with boy.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: to, he did also take a step back last year as well.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: So if he comes into camp and then comes back and they say, oh, you're don't really look to them.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it will happen, but he could be a guy that I could see them saying, well, you didn't tell us about this adventure, whatever.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's him as though, like, it's five million guaranteed.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't think they caught that.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if anybody would trade for him because we have this exchange, especially in the US, five billion guaranteeing.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the idea of an essay.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they caught him because if they caught him, it's only like a four hundred thousand dollars in saving.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: So they can trade them.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: That saves them like six million.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure they can find somebody to take him.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: maybe you get you said you get a day three pick for maybe after throw in a seven there's something like you probably get something done but yeah i would say like for god i do any part of us he shows something in camp this year i would say he has a good chance to be in the odd man out unfortunately solomon probably the same like you know she shows someone because he's late pick last year looked good me played like couldn't really get into the rotational that motion everybody else's
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: you know, pretty much locked in.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: But where the suspension almost make it tough because like, what do you make one of those moves at the end of the camp knowing you're going to need that guy for six weeks?
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: So that that's what makes it difficult.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like a guy like AJ happened to say, you know, someone calls and offers you a six.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you take it in August?
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: Because you need him for six weeks.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like you need him to be a part of the rotation, same with the Duane Carter.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you take it?
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they like just kind of figure like future Austin's problem and they figured out in a week seven and someone gets caught or maybe they might be able to make a trade.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: But it's going to be interesting because they're not keeping twelve-lead men.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's just not enough spots on the team and there are twelve guys here that are at a fellow worthy players.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of the
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: champagne problem that the bills have with having a team so good is, you know, the days of us picking up guys off the waiver wire after, you know, going yard, you know, doing yard sale after the final cup day, if it's gone, teams not doing that to us.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to be tough decisions to make.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: Fortunately, unfortunately, they don't necessarily have to happen to a week seven, but it's definitely a deep group.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's of a much deeper group than last year and the year before, which is great, and it's what you need.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: And so what's your confidence level in the script going into the season?
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: Well, before I answer that, yes, John, he is still on his rookie contract.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's three years left.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he does being likes to keep those contracts because they're cheaper, but they're also easier to get rid of because they don't have as much of a penalty.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that was talking about with the Pinesa or Alvindobi.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: The other contracts are shorter and they might be more, but at the end of the day, you're not saving that much from them.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: And you get a penalty for certain amount.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: where Solomon, you're getting what, maybe maybe a hundred thousand dollar penalty against it for cotton.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, if anything, but I a little more than that, but yeah, that much.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's a slap on the wrist for the bills of that point.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the part of doing it to tough is like, where do you look at what these contracts and then what do you want to eat?
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: What do we want to eat when it comes to penalties and money?
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, but we'll see what they do.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: My confidence level though on the group.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's one's tough because it's not.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of feel like the same way I do with the receivers group like I'm confident.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not over the top confident and if something goes wrong or somebody goes down.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't see like if group goes down.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: just, like, or if Ed goes down, like, who's going to step up?
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: Who's going to be that guy?
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: Can we rely on Joey Bosa to be that guy?
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: Can you rely on one of the rookies to step up and be that guy?
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm, I'm out, like, a little low seven, like a low seven with this group, just because I think there's a lot of question marks, but I think, like,
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: by the end of the year, I could be up in that eight to eight range because I think if everything hits or if even majority of these guys end up working out and they show what they what we think they can be, I think this could be one of the top twelve groups defensive lines in the league, even maybe top ten in the league, if people take that step, if it can be consistent, if group can take that extra step to be that twelve to fourteen set guy, if both who can stay healthy, but that's a lot of ifs
- 49:42[SPEAKER_00]: from a lot of guys.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: So right now I'm, yeah, I'm like a low seven with it, like a seven to when it comes to my confidence in this group.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, put myself right in there too, maybe a little higher, like a seven five seven six because it's a solid group of players, but like you said, you are relying on young guys to step up.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: They don't need Joey Bosa to be Joey Bosa to be a good defensive line that sure would help a lot.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: And even like like group, they want Gregory, so to take a step forward.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: They want an elevator to get back to where he was.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: If AJ Fanesa or Dequan Jones can get back to what they looked like a couple years ago, like that would be great.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's I would say it's a really high ceiling.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't say it's a low floor, but it's like a middle of the ground floor.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like if they all just play like okay and nobody takes a step forward, they all just kind of go like they play like status quo, then they'll be fine, but I don't know if that's getting it done, like they want it to.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: But this group definitely has the potential to be like you said one of the top few lines in the league if they say healthy and guys take the steps they think and they gel together and they're going to be able to rotate a lot of guys because it's a lot deeper position.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm like somewhere in the mid-Savans confidence wise, but again, if they all just kind of, you know, go out and have a fine season, then they'll be a mediocre group, but if they go out and everybody takes a step forward, they have a chance to be really special.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll be fine to see.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited for the season, obviously.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: And we got Camps starting on Wednesday, which will be cool.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's excited.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: We'll actually have some guys running around on grass and shorts to talk about next week.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: I would say it's with this group, especially.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's much better to be at that mid seven, low seven range of confidence than last year, where probably was it like five, maybe five?
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, to last year, there's the difference.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's the one thing that's the major difference for me is, yeah, I'm not, don't have the most of most confidence in this group, but just compare to last year, man.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's night and day.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_00]: It is won't complete one, eighty for how I feel going into the season with this group.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot of fans feel that way.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's going to be awesome to kind of see.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm running around there next week.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I know some people I think Lance is going.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, I was going to be going with him.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I am no longer able to go.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's going to be fun to kind of just see these guys.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: And also going to be able to see a new helmet to talk about potentially.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like they're going to announce that next week as well.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Can we let's talk about lands should be back next week, barring something happen, but yeah, it's a lands should be back next week.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we do want to shout out our sponsor, it's my sponsor monster energy as well.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: You always catch us over at the big tree in, you know, we'll to hand out some monster there.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: And just always at every tailgate, so I hope to see you guys coming in this year, which before we know it will be out there.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, appreciate all you guys in the comments as well.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_00]: As always, it was a great show.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_00]: We are getting closer though.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody, I know that sometimes this, this offseason talk can kind of get, you know, repetitive and not the most fun, but we will soon enough have some live things to talk about some development things to talk about some updates week by week when it comes to this team to talk about.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be fun.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: So Scott, you got any last words before we hop off here?
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, you got the USA version.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: You got me open this weekend.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, saying we got the open.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, we also got some some sabers news, probably coming up next few weeks with Alex talk hopefully signing.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see about that.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: And the red socks go red socks.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're on a heater.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: So you got you just going to dodge around it.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, for that.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I have no idea, man.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: I will say, I watch golf, but I'm not that heavy in the golf where I'm, I have to get his hat.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's the British.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, I'm, I'm always loving Rory, but I don't like, again, I wouldn't be shocked if you all said, I'm like, Rory's not playing in it for some odd reason, but like, Rory's always a guy that I love.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_00]: I know he's not exactly the same anymore, but I love species as well, so species.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: So you know, Rory is playing in the British open at his home course to say, you know.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: I was gonna guess, but I know that it was a few weeks ago.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't play in one and everybody was like, oh, I didn't play in.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was in a major.
