- 0:26Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:28coop. So today I want to talk to you
- 0:31about cameras. You probably saying why are we
- 0:33talking about cameras on this? Well, any of you who know me and
- 0:37have followed me for any period of time know that I'm a little
- 0:39obsessive with taking pictures, whether it's my iPhone or my
- 0:43Canon. I really am into my cameras and
- 0:47taking pictures with them because it's part of a
- 0:49mindfulness practice for me where I use them to notice small
- 0:52things. And I look for great shots and
- 0:54seeing things, whether it's in my chickens, flowers, the plants
- 0:58we grow out here on the farm, whatever it is that we're doing,
- 1:01there's always part of me that's very focused on that.
- 1:04But today I I want to talk to you about what you can learn
- 1:09from focusing on the attributes that a camera can bring to you.
- 1:14And I know that sounds really strange, but when you start to
- 1:16think about it, cameras teach you so much and in the process
- 1:21of of of being, you know, aware of the camera aspects, the
- 1:26camera actually gives you this ability to focus on what's
- 1:31important, right? So think about this.
- 1:34You have your camera. You don't focus on what's
- 1:36unimportant. You focus on what's important.
- 1:38You focus on what's in in your line of sight, what you want to
- 1:42hone in on. And isn't that what we do when
- 1:45we're talking about our life and our goals?
- 1:47We want to focus in on something that's important to us.
- 1:50So you have to choose carefully what you focus on and what your
- 1:56intent of the subject is. And most of the time we are
- 2:01trying to capture good stuff. We're trying to take pictures of
- 2:04great things. We're trying to get just that
- 2:06right shot. Most of us, unless we're news
- 2:09photographers and not looking for the bad things, we're trying
- 2:12to capture great pictures of our family.
- 2:15We're trying to capture great pictures of what's going on
- 2:17around us, memories, you know, and this is so important in our
- 2:21lives. Like, if we're focused on this,
- 2:25think about that. You want to focus on the good
- 2:27stuff. You want to say to yourself,
- 2:28wow, I want to be like the camera today.
- 2:30I'm going to focus on the good stuff.
- 2:33Inevitably, you're going to take a crappy shot.
- 2:35There's no question about it. I take lots and lots and lots
- 2:39because having a digital camera, you can take a ton and you don't
- 2:44have to worry about it. You don't have to take those
- 2:47pictures and take film and have it developed like you did in old
- 2:50school days, and you can just trash those pictures and start
- 2:53all over again. The beauty of digital art, it's
- 2:56just, you know, there's something to be said for old
- 2:59school art and there's something to be said for digital art
- 3:01because it is fun to be able to just take hundreds of pictures.
- 3:04And I do that with my chickens. I mean, people look at pictures
- 3:07and they'll say, wow, that's an amazing shot.
- 3:09Well, you're seeing one of many hundreds that I took in order to
- 3:12get that one shot in that right position with the right lighting
- 3:16across their eye or their face. So, you know, you've got to be
- 3:19willing to sit there and say to yourself, Yep, I I'm very aware
- 3:24of the fact that I'm going to have shots that just don't work.
- 3:28I'm going to have things that are just bad shots.
- 3:32And that's OK because I'm still going to continue to take
- 3:35another shot and wow, what an important lesson in life, right?
- 3:39Take another shot. Don't try to complicate things.
- 3:43Just take another shot and at some point you're going to get
- 3:47exactly what you're looking for out of them.
- 3:49And if it means that you have to move over a millimeter and take
- 3:53that shot, you do it. I mean, that's what I do
- 3:55constantly. Because that one little shift,
- 3:58that one little different perspective, I can tell you one
- 4:01of the things that I learned in when I was in art school that
- 4:04really, like, elevated my photography.
- 4:06Not that this is a photography lesson, but it was.
- 4:09Hey, don't just stand up from your own perspective.
- 4:11Whatever height you are, squat down, get low on the ground,
- 4:15stand on top of something else, take a different angle.
- 4:17And isn't that true in life, about perspective in general?
- 4:21Don't just take it from one point of view, Look around.
- 4:24Try to find multiple perspectives that you can see
- 4:26something from, because that's the power in changing your view
- 4:31about whatever's happening in your life.
- 4:32And it's the lesson in the camera to get a good shot,
- 4:36change your perspective. Because God knows the moment you
- 4:39do that, you get an amazing, amazing outcome from it.
- 4:44And you know, here, here's the thing, No matter how many bad
- 4:49shots you take, no matter what is out there, when you're
- 4:53dealing with the, you know, art and you're and you're creating
- 4:57with a camera, the fun thing is that sometimes those mistake
- 5:02shots actually turn out to be really silly, especially when
- 5:05you look at them in a series. So the lesson is when you're in
- 5:09life, when you're looking at all of this and you're saying, wow,
- 5:12that that seemingly was a bad shot, but that led to this and
- 5:15that led to this and that led to this, and you can see how it
- 5:19leads up to the good shot. So those bad shots in a line up,
- 5:23when you have the perspective to look at it in a line changes
- 5:27everything and that's what you need to do for yourself.
- 5:30So today's lesson be like the camera and I will add this in If
- 5:36you do not have a mindfulness practice that includes taking
- 5:39pictures with your phone add this one in because I promise
- 5:42you it will absolutely thrill you to walk around and say what
- 5:45are the cool things that I can take pictures of today that no
- 5:48one else notices. I spend all my time on the phone
- 5:52during the day walking around talking to clients and I'll tell
- 5:55you I'm probably on average take about 20-5 shots a day of
- 6:00different things that I notice as I'm walking around.
- 6:03It could be something as simple as my shoes.
- 6:05It could be something as fabulous as a blooming flower.
- 6:08It could be anything that I see. But the great part is I'm always
- 6:13looking and honing in on something creative and it really
- 6:16does make your brain become more attuned to that creative
- 6:20process. So I'm going to throw down that
- 6:22challenge. I hope you guys have an amazing
- 6:25day. And remember, be like a camera
- 6:27and I will see you all tomorrow. Have a great day.
- 6:29Bye.
