Transcript
- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Ready for another episode? Luna: Absolutely, Lucas. I have my market bag ready. What are we tackling today? Lucas: Today, we're reviewing how to buy chicken at the market. It's a follow-up to our earlier episode, but a lot of listeners asked for more practice. Luna: Oh, good. I remember we did that before, but I could use a refresher. Last time I tried, I almost said 'saya mahu kucing' instead of 'ayam'. Lucas: That would have been a very different shopping trip. Okay, let's start simple. To say 'I want chicken', you say 'Saya mahu ayam'. Luna: Saya mahu ayam. Lucas: Perfect. 'Ayam' is chicken. Now, if you want to ask the price per kilo, you say 'Berapa harga sekilo?'. Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Exactly. 'Sekilo' means one kilo. So you're asking 'how much per kilo?'. Luna: Got it. And if I want to check if the chicken is fresh, I can ask 'Ayam ini segar?'. Lucas: Yes! 'Segar' means fresh. So 'Ayam ini segar?' means 'Is this chicken fresh?'. Luna: Ayam ini segar? Lucas: Good. Now, if you want half a kilo, you say 'Saya mahu setengah kilo'. Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. That's handy. And to ask if they can cut it, 'Boleh potong?'. Lucas: Exactly. 'Boleh potong?' means 'Can you cut?'. Let's put it all together in a mini scene. Imagine you're at the market. Luna: Okay. I'll go first. Saya mahu ayam. Lucas: The seller says, 'Berapa kilo?'. Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Ayam ini segar? Lucas: Seller says, 'Ya, segar.' Then you say, 'Boleh potong?'. Luna: Boleh potong? And they say yes. That sounds really smooth. Lucas: It does. You're ready to shop. Now, let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: Saya mahu ayam. Luna: Saya mahu ayam. Lucas: Berapa harga sekilo? Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Ayam ini segar? Luna: Ayam ini segar? Lucas: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Lucas: Boleh potong? Luna: Boleh potong? Lucas: You know, it's really satisfying to see you get these phrases down. And we've had a lot of listeners tell us Fexingo has helped them feel confident at the market. Luna: Yeah, it's true. I remember when I first started, I was so nervous. But now I can actually buy chicken without pointing. Lucas: That's progress. And if Fexingo has helped you make progress too, and you'd like to support the show so we can keep making these episodes ad-free, you can buy us a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: That's right. Every little bit helps us keep the lights on. And we really appreciate it. Lucas: So, back to chicken. Let's try a dialogue. I'll be the seller, you're the buyer. Luna: Okay. Saya mahu ayam. Lucas: Nak berapa kilo? Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Ayam ini segar? Lucas: Ya, segar. Nak potong? Luna: Ya, boleh potong. Terima kasih. Lucas: Perfect. You even said 'terima kasih' at the end. That's natural. Luna: Well, I remembered that from our earlier episodes. So, what's next for our listeners? Lucas: Practice these phrases with a friend, or on your next market trip. And keep listening to Learn Malay with Fexingo. We'll see you next time. Luna: Bye bye! Selamat tinggal!
