- The DECAF Network: Hey, it's Dex, creator of Reboot Player One and host at the Checkpoint. And I've been struggling a little bit lately with this whole recalling thing. It's been a while since the last video. I'd probably say maybe a week or so. You're not gonna see a drop in content because there's quite a lot there. But this week especially has been a little bit tough. And the actual title of this video was something that I've been meaning to record for a while. And I think today it's actually quite poignant. Is that the word? I tell you, if that's not what it means, I'm gonna have to scrap this video. But anyway, it's quite poignant that I do it today. Cause ⁓ I am struggling a little I'm not feeling it. I'm a bit flat. So basically the title of this video is I Wish There Was a Drug That Could Do This. And what this, what this is for me. is I wish there was a drug that would allow me to work from a place of desperation instead of desire. I want a drug that would allow me to work from a place of desperation and desire. Because I think for me, when I need to do something, when something needs to be done, it's I find that at least I'm the best when I have to work. From a place of desperation. Like I get things done. When I work from a place of desire, sure, things still get done, but there's nothing pressing if I don't work on something today. There's no deadline. You know, there's no consequences, so to speak. So for me, I've always found that if I know that I need, i.e. must, i.e. have to do something because Something bad will happen, I will lose something, this thing won't happen. If I know that to be the case, then whatever needs to be done will get done. You know, I'm I'm probably the typical student that has two weeks to work on an assignment and gets it all done the day before. That's just how I've always been. And So when I'm trying so when I try and and start a new venture, when I start to build different things and and try and get things off the ground, like what I'm doing with Reboot Player One, ⁓ and what I'm doing with the checkpoint, I'm operating from a place of desire. And yeah, that that that gets me far. You know, I'm I'm not I'm not gonna say that ⁓ this isn't a passion project, this isn't something that I wanna do for pretty much the rest of my life. That is that is the case. It's just you know, sometimes when I wake up That desire can be replaced with comfort, you know, ⁓ working on something else, just entirely clearing out the the headspace to work on something and and just do nothing. Now I get it. you you still need that. You still need days where you don't think about work, where you don't think about not even life, really. You just exist. Go for a walk. You know, you ⁓ you you're Present, I get that there are days that are like that. But there are times when you know that work needs to be done. And the desire component, as strong as it might be, at least for me anyway, just doesn't really have the same amount of push as desperation does. I know that if given a different circumstance, let's just say, for example, that my main source of income was entirely taken away. And Ruby Player One and the checkpoint were the only means that I could see of making money, that's a place of desperation. And I can I can almost guarantee you that I would call everyone I know, I would do things that I needed to in order to to get these ideas up and running and and hopefully make money. I could almost guarantee that because that's that for me is a a a spot of desperation. I'm working from that place of desperation. Now, because that's not the case and I am a sensible person. Look, I I take risks here and there, but I'm not the biggest risk taker around. ⁓ I I I could try and replicate it. I could sell up the business. I could, you know, I could do that sort of stuff. But, you know, I've got kids, there's a mortgage, I have a wife, there, there are responsibilities. And, you know, the The decision to do that is is not on the table. So what I would really love, would really wish that there was a drug that I could take that would put me in a headspace to think, crap, I have to do this or something bad will happen, something will be taken away, I won't be able to do whatever it is, which will kick my mind into that ⁓ into that mindset. And to work from that place of desperation because I've been there before. I've I've you know, and not just in a school capacity with assignments. I've done it with other businesses, I've done it with, you know, ⁓ even just projects within IT. I've had to work within fairly tight deadlines and and ⁓ and knowing that if I don't hit those deadlines there's gonna be com some consequences. And I would have to say that more often than not, like ninety nine percent of the time. what what's needing to be done gets done. Not only that, if if the task is a, you know, ⁓ is a problem solution and I don't have the solution at the end of, say, the allotted time, I still have the capacity within that ⁓ that mindset that I'm working from to find an alternative solution, to do something else about it. Like I it's almost like I I kick into a different gear. ⁓ you know, the the like this drug that I'm after is almost like that movie Limitless. But I think ⁓ it's slightly different in a way, in that I know that I have the capacity in me to do certain things. It's just a simple mindset shift, ⁓ that if I were able to employ it at a way that I would truly feel the feeling, then I could do a lot of stuff. So that's my wish. ⁓ I wish there was a drug that would allow me to operate from a place of desperation whilst keeping everything the same. Okay. You know, it's not like take this drug. ⁓ and in order for me to operate from a place of desperation, I you know, I leave my family, I sell the business, I like I do the physical things to then bring on that desperation. That's that's not what I want. What I want is just to be able to take a drug. And then in my mind think that there are some bad things to happen if I don't do this A thing by Z time. That's it. yeah, I just needed to get that off my chest. Because at the moment I am I'm in a bit of a a holding pattern, at least that's what it feels internally. And I I still have desire and a passion to make this thing grow 'cause I I can see progress. ⁓ but ⁓ I I'm in what I think Seth Godin refers to as the dip, you know. ⁓ and once I get out through the other side I I can see that there are many good things awaiting. But I know that if I was in a place of desperation, I wouldn't be talking about this because, you know, I'd I'd be ⁓ I'd be on the phones talking to people and and having meetings and and all that sort of stuff, which I'm not doing. So that's it for me. ⁓ if you have questions that you'd like to discuss about, you know, getting close to your fifties, retirement, midlife, menopause, peri, all that sort of stuff. We talk about this stuff every Wednesday. If you go to tc.rebootplay1.com, you can find out more details there. And I will see you on the next video. Bye.
