- 0:14Welcome, my dear friends, to the 131st 2 episode of Living
- 0:21Without Fear. I'm Esther Burkey, your host
- 0:25from Switzerland, and I'm so grateful that you're here with
- 0:29me again, taking this precious moment out of your day to listen
- 0:35with your heart wide open. You know I always try to bring
- 0:42you my truth. Not the shiny, polished version
- 0:47of life, but the raw, honest one.
- 0:51The one that breathes. The one that sometimes hurts.
- 0:56Because I've learned that when we share our struggles and our
- 1:03learnings with honesty, we build bridges.
- 1:07Invisible bridges from heart to heart.
- 1:12And today I want to talk about something I see so often in my
- 1:18coaching work, and something I have wrestled with myself for
- 1:25many years. Trusting ourselves.
- 1:29You might think it's something we all naturally do, but it's
- 1:35not. For many of us, trusting
- 1:39ourselves feels like standing on the fragile bridge, afraid it
- 1:46might collapse if we take one more step.
- 1:50For so long, I doubted myself. I trusted others more than I
- 1:58trusted my own voice. I believed they knew better what
- 2:05was right for me, what was possible for me, even who I
- 2:10should be. It's strange.
- 2:13When I look back, I can see now that this lack of self trust was
- 2:20deeply connected to how little I felt my own worth.
- 2:27I thought other people were somehow more important, more
- 2:32intelligent, more valuable than I was.
- 2:37And I know some of you listening might feel the same way.
- 2:43When we don't truly feel worthy, it's almost impossible to trust
- 2:50our inner voice because that voice becomes quiet.
- 2:56So quiet that we can't hear it anymore.
- 3:02My journey to discovering my birth started in my late 30s.
- 3:10Back then, I was still working full time as a journalist and
- 3:15communication specialist. Driven, curious, passionate
- 3:21about people's stories. But on the inside, I often felt
- 3:28insecure. Then I met this extraordinary
- 3:33woman, my therapist. She was radiant, intelligent,
- 3:39elegant, gentle and grounded. She embodied a kind of feminine
- 3:45power that fascinated me. She had children and I didn't
- 3:51have mine yet. I became a mother much later in
- 3:56life, at 41 and again at 43. During our therapy sessions, she
- 4:05taught me something priceless. She taught me that worthiness
- 4:11has nothing to do with what we do.
- 4:15Not our job, not our looks, not our achievements, but everything
- 4:23to do with who we are. She would often say, Esther, you
- 4:30are worthy simply because you are.
- 4:34At first I didn't believe her, but she kept repeating it until
- 4:41one day something in me began to soften.
- 4:46After those sessions I started creating little rituals for
- 4:52myself. One of my favourites was going
- 4:56to a beautiful coffee house in Zurich.
- 4:59You know those old cosy ones with wooden tables and big
- 5:05windows? I would order a big latte
- 5:09macchiato and a warm French croissant.
- 5:13I would sit there watching the people walking by, feeling the
- 5:19sun through the glass, and I'd imagine that I was a queen.
- 5:26Not in an arrogant way, but with a quiet dignity.
- 5:32I would whisper to myself, I'm enough, I'm lovable, I'm worthy
- 5:39of all the beauty life offers. And for those moments, I
- 5:45believed it. I felt radiant.
- 5:49My whole energy changed. I smiled at strangers, I felt
- 5:55connected to life. But then came motherhood and
- 6:02everything turned upside down. When my first son was born, I
- 6:07was completely overwhelmed. I loved him so much, yet I lost
- 6:14myself in the process. Every thought revolved around
- 6:20him, his sleep, his food, his happiness.
- 6:25I had no space left to take care of me.
- 6:30I saw my therapist again, but there were so many new topics.
- 6:36Exhaustion, guilt, identity, trying to be a good mother and a
- 6:43good partner. My energy was scattered in all
- 6:47directions. I was trying to do everything
- 6:51perfectly and that's a sure way to lose your inner peace.
- 6:59After 15 months, I became pregnant again and although I
- 7:04was happy deep down, I felt completely drained.
- 7:10I didn't realize it then, but I was living in survival mode.
- 7:17I didn't go to coffees anymore, I didn't have quiet moments.
- 7:22I forgot about my worthiness rituals and slowly the old
- 7:29feelings came back. Self doubt, comparison, feeling
- 7:35small. I think every mother and
- 7:39honestly every human being who gives too much of themselves
- 7:45reaches this point at least once where they realize I've lost me.
- 7:53But here's what I want you to remember.
- 7:57Even if you lose your connection to yourself, you can always
- 8:02rebuild it. The truth is, we all forget who
- 8:08we are from time to time. Life happens, we give, we care,
- 8:14we rush. But the beautiful thing is, your
- 8:18worth never leaves you. It's like the sun behind the
- 8:23clouds, it's always there waiting for you to see it again.
- 8:30That's why rituals are so powerful.
- 8:35You don't need anything big. Start small.
- 8:40Maybe you light a candle every morning and take 1 deep breath
- 8:47just for you. Maybe you walk outside without
- 8:52your phone and feel the air on your skin.
- 8:57Or you Simply put your hand on your heart and whisper.
- 9:03I trust you because that's where real trust begins.
- 9:10Not in the head, but in the heart.
- 9:14When you feel worthy, you stop asking for others to improve
- 9:19your choices. You stop needing constants,
- 9:24constant reassurance. You realize that your inner
- 9:29voice, this quiet, loving whisper, is actually the most
- 9:35trustworthy guide you ever have. So try it now.
- 9:42Take a deep breath. Breathe into your heart and say
- 9:49softly, I trust you, you are all I need.
- 9:56Do you feel that warmth, that little spark inside?
- 10:02That's the beginning of real self trust.
- 10:06You can build on it every single day.
- 10:10Start your mornings with this breath and your days with it.
- 10:17If you feel inspired, create a mantra that grounds you.
- 10:23It could be I'm safe with myself or my heart always knows the
- 10:32way. Let it be your quiet companion
- 10:37whenever fear or doubt arise. And please don't be discouraged
- 10:44if you can't feel it yet. I couldn't either for a long
- 10:49time. There were many years of
- 10:52struggle before I finally found the peace I live with today.
- 11:00If you want to know more about that path, the fear, the
- 11:06heartbreak and the beauty that followed, you can order my book
- 11:11Living Without Fear on Amazon and read it.
- 11:16I share it all there honestly, vulnerably and with love.
- 11:25And if you feel stuck, if you need a companion on your own
- 11:30journey of self trust, I'm here. Ioffer one-on-one sessions where
- 11:37I help people reconnect with their inner strengths and let go
- 11:44of all patterns that no longer serve them.
- 11:49Because I know this. You already carry everything you
- 11:54need inside you. You are worthy of your own
- 11:59trust. You are worthy of peace, of joy,
- 12:03of love, exactly as you are. Thank you, my dear friend, for
- 12:10being here today, for listening, and for daring to grow with me.
- 12:17Until next time, breathe deeply, love yourself gently, and
- 12:23remember you already are everything you've been searching
- 12:29for. I talk to you next week.
