- 0:00Aloha. Thursday morning — King Kamehameha Day across the state. The lei draping at the statue in downtown Honolulu is happening now, the floral parade rolls through Waikīkī later, and Kapiʻolani Park is hosting the Hoʻolauleʻa. Big Island and Kauaʻi have parades too.
- 2:04Today's weather stays gentle — scattered morning showers on windward and interior slopes, then drying out as sea breezes take over near the coasts. Winds are light. Leeward areas like Kona and the Lānaʻi side stay drier all day. If you're heading to a parade or the park celebration, plan for morning showers inland, but Honolulu itself clears by midday.
- 2:22Surf today is small — Oʻahu south shore at 3.2 feet, north shore at 2.9, Maui's around 2.4, and the Big Island nearly glassy at 1.1 feet. All comfortable for swimming and snorkeling right now. But late Friday a big south swell arrives, peaking Sunday and Monday with dangerous conditions on south-facing beaches.
- 2:37At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, several trails remain closed — Kīpukapuaulu is shut due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge is under repair. The Kahuku Unit roads are also closed. Check ahead before you head up. The park has an ongoing caution about volcanic ash for downwind areas.
- 2:52Our new aquarium guide compares all four of Hawaiʻi's main marine discovery centers — what each one does well and who it's for. We've also posted a full breakdown of the Honolulu Century Ride if you're planning a September trip around the bike event. Both are solid references before you book.
- 3:07Sunday and Monday bring that south swell — avoid swimming on south shores, but leeward areas stay safer. Winds pick back up Sunday, and windward areas see frequent showers again. Peak monthly tides mean minor coastal flooding is likely next week during high tides, so check conditions before heading to the shoreline.
- 3:23Enjoy the celebrations today. Catch you tomorrow.
