- 0:19I'm Jessica and this is Teba K Rambles.
- 0:21We're a couple of friends review Korean dramas and we're back
- 0:24with a throwback K drama review. And for this episode, I think
- 0:28you know who's here. It's Lola from Lola pops up
- 0:32about K dramas. How are you, Lola?
- 0:35I am well, and I'm so excited. Of course, to be doing another
- 0:39throwback episode with you is my favorite.
- 0:42You're like my go to for a lot of these because you were there
- 0:46boots on the ground for so much of this and you are very willing
- 0:51and able to rewatch some of these shows.
- 0:55For those who haven't heard Lola on the podcast before, she was
- 0:59most recently on the sad K dramas episode.
- 1:02She was on When Life Gives you Tangerines episode, and I think
- 1:05she was on the I'm sorry, I Love you episode.
- 1:08Those were your last three guest boss, but I love having you on.
- 1:13And I know we were talking a little bit earlier, but what are
- 1:16what are you watching right now? What's going on?
- 1:20So I'm actually watching a lot. I've been finishing things.
- 1:25I'm very proud of myself. But right now I did get started
- 1:28with the, of course famous perfect crown that everyone is
- 1:33kind of talking about. So.
- 1:34Girl what are your thoughts? I'm hearing so many mixed.
- 1:37I don't know yet. I'm going to be honest.
- 1:40This is this is rare for me. I feel like I'm able to clock my
- 1:43my feelings on a drama very, very early on and I'm not sure
- 1:48about this one. So I'm, I'm kind of refraining
- 1:51from really, you know, passing judgement on this one.
- 1:54I think, right. I'm, I'm, I think I'm still
- 1:56slightly excited to see like watch it, but I can't say why
- 2:03yet. And I don't know if that
- 2:05excitement is going to fizzle out at some point, you know, so
- 2:07I just got started with it. I don't want to say too much too
- 2:11soon and put my, you know, like put my foot in my mouth, but I
- 2:14am, I have started it. I have started it.
- 2:16OK. So perfect crown is what you're
- 2:19currently kind of. I just start well, but one of
- 2:22the dramas that I am actually really actively loving still and
- 2:25I've been watching for, it's been on for weeks now, but
- 2:27Phantom Lawyer. I don't know, I feel like I
- 2:30haven't heard much anyone else talk about this one, but this is
- 2:33like one of my faves right now. Really.
- 2:35OK, I heard one other person and I can't know who it is talking
- 2:39about Phantom Lawyer and they said it was good and they were
- 2:41enjoying it. Yeah, so that's my my actual
- 2:43fave right now, so. OK.
- 2:46All right, well, thank you for sharing what you are currently
- 2:49watching Perfect Crown and Phantom Lawyer.

- 3:49show And here we go, 2 weeks. Are you ready?
- 3:53I'm ready. I'm ready.
- 3:56Here's the Cocoa Plus synopsis. It's very short.
- 3:59It reads an aimless man finds resolve when he is framed for
- 4:03murder and has only two weeks to save his sick daughter.
- 4:08Dramatic, right, but accurate. I know I kind of just wanted
- 4:12like this is what's going on. You don't need to know all the
- 4:15details the. Details.
- 4:17Yeah, not yet. No two weeks aired from August
- 4:21to September 2013. You heard that 2013 and here we
- 4:26go. What is going on in the year
- 4:272013? This is the year of the Boston
- 4:31Marathon bombing. The number one movie of the year
- 4:34was Frozen and everyone was captivated by Let It Go.
- 4:40Orange is the New Black premiered on Netflix.
- 4:43Lance Armstrong admits to doping in all seven of his Tour de
- 4:49France victories. Paul.
- 4:52Sorry, not funny, but it was funny that you put that one like
- 4:56let me, let me guy, let me remind you of this one, guys.
- 4:58That's funny. Because I was an owner of a
- 5:01Livestrong bracelet, so I. You felt very much like watching
- 5:07this. You're like, how could you?
- 5:08Yeah. So but also Paul Walker died
- 5:13this year very famously on the radio.
- 5:16What was on the radio? Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball and
- 5:20We can't Stop Clarity by Zed, featuring foxes.
- 5:25I used to run in the gym to Clarity.
- 5:28Clarity. I listen to that song maybe at
- 5:32least every two weeks, like. I understand.
- 5:36This. To this day I cannot.
- 5:38I still love it. Royals by Lorde was on the
- 5:41radio. She was a teenage phenom at that
- 5:44point. She wasn't our age.
- 5:47No, exactly. No.
- 5:49Suit and Tie and Mirrors by Justin Timberlake because the
- 5:522020 experience. What a great album.
- 5:57Really, I was never a JT fan. Oh my God, girl, that was it.
- 6:01I know, I know. That was the last time he
- 6:03peaked. Was that was this album and then
- 6:07thrift Shop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis was also terrorizing
- 6:11us I. Definitely couldn't say I was.
- 6:13I couldn't. I don't ever have to hear that
- 6:14song. Ever.
- 6:15Again, I have a vague memory. It's not even vague.
- 6:18I have a memory of going to. I'd spent my spring break, which
- 6:22I did not have a spring break because I was already graduating
- 6:24college by then. So I took off work.
- 6:27Took off and made a spring break.
- 6:28To go drive, to spend spring break with a friend who is still
- 6:31in school in the middle of nowhere Georgia.
- 6:35And she goes, I can't really leave campus because I'm on the
- 6:39lacrosse team and I have a couple of games.
- 6:43We have practices and whatever. And I was like, oh, it's.
- 6:46Spring break, are you going to have?
- 6:47No, no, no, it was the whole thing and it was cold.
- 6:49It was freaking cold in Georgia during the spring break.
- 6:52And so I went and spent time with her and stayed with her
- 6:56during this week. Everywhere we went, the the song
- 7:00Thrift shot. On and.
- 7:02On and over and over and over. Played it out.
- 7:06I went to a lacrosse game for the first time in my life and
- 7:08no, no shades of those who play lacrosse.
- 7:11It is not the sport for me. I was like, and then they they
- 7:15sucked like her team sucked as well.
- 7:19And then Macklemore in the background background.
- 7:22I'm going off a. Worst spring?
- 7:23Break. Oh my God.
- 7:24That's what it sounds. Like it snowed and my car
- 7:27battery died and it was an entire thing.
- 7:31Yeah, that sounds horrible. It was.
- 7:33Horrible. So when I think of Macklemore.
- 7:36You think of that week. What the hell was I thinking?
- 7:40I would never do that now. So anyway, and then just to add
- 7:44matter, because we're living in a historic moment where Big Bang
- 7:48is at Coachella. Yes, yes, yes.
- 7:52So. This show came out before Tae
- 7:55Yang's eyes, nose, lips was released.
- 7:59Yes. And three years before the icon,
- 8:05I don't know, question mark that is Moon Lovers, Scarlet Heart,
- 8:08Rio. It's an infamous like icon, you
- 8:11know, like everyone knows. Everyone has a an opinion about
- 8:16moon lovers, scarlet Heart, Rio, time and place for it and this
- 8:19is 3 years. Before that for that.
- 8:22Yes, so now that we have 2013 firmly in mind, this show is 16
- 8:26episodes long and it's got a couple of directors.
- 8:29Sun Hyung Sook and TE Jung Heu both directed this.
- 8:34They've got 7 projects each to their name.
- 8:38For Hyung Sook, we've got personal taste from 2010 and.
- 8:43Angels say anything. Let's not say anything.
- 8:45Shiner go crazy from 2015. The Guardians really hasn't done
- 8:49much since that era. The 20 Tens and then Tong Q has
- 8:54also done 7 projects including The King's Doctor Triangle,
- 8:57Children of Nobody, The Double Judge from 2021, soundtrack #2
- 9:02from 2023, and The East Palace, which is I think on Netflix if
- 9:08you want to watch that. But what's your experience with
- 9:10these directors? I, I think for me, I, I am a
- 9:16junk young fan because he did the double Judge for me in 2021.
- 9:20So he stole my heart with that one.
- 9:23So much so that I'm still actively searching.
- 9:26Well, this isn't him as a director, but this is more about
- 9:28the writer from Double Judge. But I'm actively still seeking
- 9:32to locate the actual script. Like in book form they have it
- 9:37and I want it so. You know, and maybe this is for
- 9:40someone who's listening, who has connections.
- 9:42Yeah. If you want to get on the A-24
- 9:46level and create really good merch for some of these shows
- 9:51and some of these creators, I would be totally on board.
- 9:53I would buy a look book script of my favorite K drama.
- 9:59All day. All day.
- 10:01All day, every. Day, fun facts, annotated,
- 10:04translated, the whole thing. I would buy it.
- 10:07Screen stills, behind the scenes stills.
- 10:10My family, you know, there's a market for it and a 24 has
- 10:14really tapped into it. They have, yeah.
- 10:16With like these novelty products and if they started doing that
- 10:19for K dramas, Oh my God. I it's, I mean, I would be in
- 10:23trouble. Yeah, same.
- 10:24Goodbye, Patrol. Actually, don't do it.
- 10:26Though that Never mind, never mind.
- 10:28I didn't say never mind, never mind Two weeks was written by so
- 10:31Hyung hyung. It is a female screenwriter and
- 10:34she's been writing since the early aughts.
- 10:36She so in love Brilliant legacy, which I really like.
- 10:42Brilliant legacy, yeah. I did a throwback episode of
- 10:45this a couple years ago. Yes you did, and I listened all
- 10:47the way through that episode. Girl love living with that
- 10:51episode love. So definitely check out Lola's
- 10:54brilliant Legacy episode. That's a show from 2009,
- 10:58Prosecutor Princess. So our female lead lays A
- 11:01prosecutor back-to-back. Mm hmm.
- 11:03Back-to-back. I'm credible.
- 11:05And then 49 days, 49 days, she wrote.
- 11:09Love 49 days. And my golden life and glamorous
- 11:13days most recently. So what's your what's your
- 11:16experience with a screenwriter? I like her if you can't tell.
- 11:19I do like her but she's also super dramatic though so no no.
- 11:23No, that's the thing. That's the thing right?
- 11:25She is a drama queen literally like brilliant legacy 49 days
- 11:31like you're you're in for. I mean, Even so young my
- 11:34daughter like it's it can get a little, you know, family drama,
- 11:38weekend drama heavy. So I actually really love her.
- 11:42But you have to be ready for the drama.
- 11:43Yeah. And you know what?
- 11:44She has a style and she sticks to it.
- 11:46She sticks to it. I have to admire her for that.
- 11:48I honestly know it's not like these screenwriters and
- 11:51directors where you're like, these are disparate projects.
- 11:54I can't even find a through line here.
- 11:56No, she she's on it. Yeah.
- 11:59Yeah, you can. She has the name on it.
- 12:01Yeah, yeah. Two Week stars Ejin Ghee as
- 12:05Zhang Tehsan. He's the male lead of the show.
- 12:08He's been wow, I think maybe just over 20 years.
- 12:13He has been in dramas including My Girl from O Five, Time
- 12:19Between Dog and Wolf, Ultimate, The Phantom Thief, Arang and The
- 12:23Magistrate, Scholar Who Walks the Night, Moon Lovers, Criminal
- 12:28Minds, Lawless Lawyer, Flower of Evil Again, My Life, and most
- 12:31recently Arthal Chronicles The Sword of Adam Moon from 2023.
- 12:35So he has not been in dramas and doesn't look like he has an
- 12:38upcoming drama either. For a few years, three years
- 12:42now, I've watched Flower of Evil, obviously, and there's a
- 12:46big deep dive on the podcast, Moon Lovers.
- 12:48Obviously, there's a big deep dive on the podcast.
- 12:51A scholar who walks tonight, I think he's a vampire in that
- 12:53Adang in the Magistrate. I've watched that.
- 12:56I dropped Ultimate. I love ultimate.
- 12:59I don't know if anyone else feels a certain type of way, but
- 13:02he got his start basically playing effeminate characters.
- 13:06He has. He did.
- 13:07That's his origins. That's the origin story of this
- 13:10man. And then in recent years, or as
- 13:12his career has progressed, he's played overtly masculine
- 13:16characters swinging the other way.
- 13:19It makes me raise my eyebrows of like, oh wow, what was he
- 13:23hearing? What was he?
- 13:24What kind of scripts was he getting for him to swing
- 13:25completely the other way? But.
- 13:28I think he's very well, at least for me.
- 13:30My experience with him with I've been with him for a long time
- 13:34and I love him best in his action roles.
- 13:36I think he is very talented and and physical, I think because
- 13:42even in when his effeminate roles, like in the film, I can't
- 13:45remember the name of it. Yeah.
- 13:46Like he was, he was. I put him on the map, put him on
- 13:48the map and he was do he was a Acrobat in that one, you know
- 13:51what I mean? So it's like, I think he's
- 13:52physically very he was always physically very adept.
- 13:56And so I think that's what pushed him maybe more towards
- 13:59the more masculine, like really, really masculine roles because
- 14:02they were more action heavy. He was good at those things.
- 14:04And so I enjoy him in action roles.
- 14:07Yeah. I think he's really good.
- 14:08I think he's really good, yeah. I like him too.
- 14:11He's very over the top up in the show.
- 14:12I will say very over the top. I know we're going to talk about
- 14:18some of those crying. Scenes and what's oh.
- 14:21You know, the hand, the hands in the head, the head in the hands
- 14:25scenes. Yeah.
- 14:26Oh God, I have a lot of those. No, legit.
- 14:29His Co star is Kim Soyoung. She plays Pakjek Young.
- 14:33She's the female lead and prosecutor of this show.
- 14:36She's been in about 30 TV shows. You've seen her in something
- 14:41she's been in all about Eve, Iris Prosecutor Princess, which
- 14:45we already mentioned. Athena got a savor Iris 2.
- 14:48I think she was in the Iris movie as well, in need of
- 14:51romance. Three beating again, which I
- 14:53feel like we've talked about beating again before.
- 14:55All the Penthouse shows seasons 123 tale, the 9 tale 1938 and
- 15:01most recently A Virtuous Business from 2024.
- 15:04How do you feel about this actress?
- 15:06Love her to pieces. She's she's I love her to
- 15:09pieces. I've watched like just you
- 15:11listing off the dramas, I was like Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep,
- 15:13Yep. Like I have watched, I've almost
- 15:17watched everything with her and except the penthouses, I've
- 15:21watched everything else but penthouses.
- 15:23Yeah. Well, the pen out, those are
- 15:25very those are clearly mock John.
- 15:28So mock John and the writer is, I mean, that writer is a mess.
- 15:34I'm sorry. I know people love Penthouse,
- 15:36and I haven't gave it a fair shot, obviously, because I just
- 15:39feel like I've watched it through everyone talking about
- 15:42it when it was airing. So I just don't have the, you
- 15:44know, I don't feel the need to go and watch it because I'm
- 15:46like, I feel like I've seen all the major twists and turns and
- 15:50all the right mahjong moment. So I'm like, I don't really need
- 15:53to go back. But yeah, that writer, that
- 15:56writers, the fact that she did three of them, I was like, OK.
- 15:58OK, found something she likes. Smelled like OK sorry.
- 16:05The other stars of the show are Vu, Sue Young and Pak Hassan.
- 16:10They play Song Wu and Inhe respectively.
- 16:14And then there's a bunch of older stars as well.
- 16:16Kim Heyok, Tominki, Song Jedim. Who plays the Mr. Kim, who's
- 16:23like an assassin character. And rest in peace, my song.
- 16:28Tons of people, familiar faces, and it's kind of an extensive
- 16:31cast, but I will focus on those two.
- 16:35Why don't you tell me how you feel about two weeks having
- 16:39watched it again? It might be different, I think,
- 16:43than your initial watch. It definitely was different from
- 16:46my initial watch. I watched it when it was Eric,
- 16:48so I was on the you know, I when you're watching a drama like
- 16:52this that's so action and so thriller like, Oh my gosh, we
- 16:55got to get to the next episode. You having to wait, you know,
- 16:59the next week for the off the cliffhangers.
- 17:01It was really exciting. It was so exciting back then.
- 17:04I was having a blast with this drama, but I do feel like over
- 17:09time I kind of forgotten about it.
- 17:11Like I kind of just was like, wait, I did watch that drama.
- 17:13I remember enjoying it like why can't I really pinpoint like me
- 17:17loving it? I think so.
- 17:20And I think it was because at some point, and this is I don't
- 17:24know, and I we said this a little bit earlier when we were
- 17:26talking, I felt that it got repetitive towards the end.
- 17:29Like the structure of the episodes felt very play by play,
- 17:33like you knew exactly what was how it's going to start.
- 17:35You know exactly what was going to kind of happen in the middle.
- 17:38Something doesn't happen going to throw him off his game.
- 17:40Then by the end we're going to have this big cliffhanger moment
- 17:43and then next episode. So it was just like that rhythm
- 17:47started to get a little we're like, OK, all right.
- 17:50And the plot points just didn't seem as exciting as I remembered
- 17:54them. Yes, not having to wait two
- 17:56weeks for the next episodes. I mean the not two weeks, but
- 17:59waiting one week for the next episode.
- 18:01So I feel like yeah, it wasn't as exciting for as a rewatch
- 18:05obviously than the first time. What did you think of the
- 18:08performances? I actually really was shocked by
- 18:12how when you said he was giving over over the top, I was
- 18:17thinking of the same thing. Even with Sue Young, I was like,
- 18:20this is wow, what was this, what we were doing in 2013?
- 18:25And then I'm like, yeah, I think it was.
- 18:26I don't know why I forgot that, but we were very much.
- 18:29We were doing this. We were doing this.
- 18:31We were doing a lot. We were doing a lot the the, the
- 18:33crying scenes were so big, so, so big.
- 18:38And also the I guess you wouldn't call her the second
- 18:42female lead, but she's like one of the big leads.
- 18:45What is her name? Who's the mother in?
- 18:49The character's name. Yeah, character's name in Hay.
- 18:51But the actress is Park Khan's son.
- 18:53Like I was reminded of her and her acting because I, I remember
- 18:57watching her back in the day all the time and just seeing her all
- 19:01the time being like, OK, I think I'm supposed to really, really
- 19:03love this actress. But I was like the actual
- 19:05acting. The actual acting though, it was
- 19:09always so mediocre and I was really reminded of that watching
- 19:13her again in two weeks. I was like oh man, Dang it.
- 19:15I feel like I really love her. Like but her acting.
- 19:18Not so strong. Not so strong.
- 19:20So yeah, the acting was questionable.
- 19:22But she's so pretty, and what I will say about her is like,
- 19:25she's such an archetype. She is this.
- 19:27Character, she's such an archetype.
- 19:29You saw her all the time. Drama.
- 19:32There was this like beautiful woman who is like on a pedestal.
- 19:39Yes, you know, I mean literally she was on, she was a statue at
- 19:42one point and literally. You're.
- 19:45Right. He was actually on a pedestal.
- 19:47Literally, literally on this show.
- 19:49And she's kind of untouchable. She's perfect.
- 19:52She's a perfect woman and. The perfect mother.
- 19:56Perfect mother like you know, she's flawless and.
- 20:01That character I that archetype has gone by the wayside.
- 20:04Absolutely, absolutely. And that's why it felt like we
- 20:07were in 2013. Like I felt like I went back to
- 20:092013. Everything placed me there, the
- 20:12acting, the hair, the styling, everything was like, OK, let's
- 20:17just go back to 2013. Like we're not in, we're not in
- 20:192026, we're in 2013. And I think that helped me of
- 20:22course, with the rewatch. But there there are moments when
- 20:25you're going back to these K dramas from yesteryear.
- 20:28You're like, yeah, some, but it just, you know, doesn't
- 20:31technically stand the test to try.
- 20:33Yeah, you feel like you're it's dated.
- 20:35It feels a little dated. Right.
- 20:37Yeah, OK. I freaking love this show.
- 20:42Like, for for all the reasons that you've listed.
- 20:46I also like really like this show.
- 20:48Exactly. Just because it's 2013 doesn't
- 20:50mean you can't love it. 2013 I agree with everything that
- 20:54you're saying. This acting is very over the top
- 20:58in a lot of places. And then other places, you're
- 21:00like, OK, but the drama really does warrant something to this
- 21:03effect, you know, where someone is pumping their fists at the
- 21:07air and just like, oh. Yeah, how can this happen?
- 21:10Yeah. And you're like, oh, totally
- 21:12into it. And then other times I'm like
- 21:13this feels like I'm watching a novella, like a Spanish Noela.
- 21:18Like it's just, I can't take it seriously.
- 21:21Yes, very hokey. It's very over the top.
- 21:23It's just not elegant, you know? It's so clunky.
- 21:28It was. It was clunky.
- 21:29You got clunky? Yes, absolutely.
- 21:31And so I can't I it was a very uneven performance from
- 21:34everybody and I will say the first half was pitch perfect to
- 21:40me. It was great, the first.
- 21:42Half. Great, great, great.
- 21:45And then they start running it back and they start repeating
- 21:48and they start with, I mean, the character changes, his approach
- 21:52to the whole situation changes. And you're like, OK, I
- 21:54understand. That this is good this.
- 21:55Is good, but then he starts working with other characters
- 21:59and they start trying to lay traps for the bad guys basically
- 22:04and they get out of it every single time.
- 22:06It's very Scooby-doo. So scooby-doo, it's a great
- 22:10description. Scooby-doo, it's like you have
- 22:12the formula. They we have set up how this
- 22:14structure is gonna work for the next 10 episodes.
- 22:17Get ready. Yeah, it's like, whoa, okay,
- 22:20right. So it's like watching a
- 22:22scooby-doo episode where you know how they're gonna get to
- 22:24the end and the villain is gonna be revealed.
- 22:26They're gonna pull the mask off. It wasn't for you meddling kids.
- 22:30Yeah, and someones A mole. I'm like, we need to take care
- 22:33of this mole. Earlier, the mole in the Police
- 22:36Department was like killing me. He's.
- 22:38Throwing me inside. So frustrating.
- 22:40My gosh. And you have your guesses as to
- 22:43who it is, And so do the characters.
- 22:45I'm sure they don't address it. They still go through with these
- 22:48large scale plans and. While the molds just sit.
- 22:51There, there's a mold. Someone's going to leak.
- 22:53This. Like awkward.
- 22:55They know that and they still go through with it.
- 22:57And I'm like, why? So stuff like that was really
- 23:00irritating the longer the show went on.
- 23:03Yes. And if you're not a fan of the
- 23:06the male lead or the protagonist losing 99% of the show, you're
- 23:11not going to like this show. No wins, no wins.
- 23:14Just trying to keep his head above water.
- 23:17Birth the majority of the show. They have this man on the ropes
- 23:19for at least 12 episodes straight. 12 episodes.
- 23:22I mean, I would give him fourteen straight. 14 honestly,
- 23:26because even when he starts to work with the cops and the
- 23:30prosecutor, it's still a losing battle every time.
- 23:33Still, every time. Yeah, every time.
- 23:35I mean, he gets so close and so and so far at the same time at
- 23:40the end of every episode and every episode we're like, we've
- 23:43made it this far for him to OK, boom, boom.
- 23:47The cliffhanger happens and you're like I, but I swear that
- 23:50we weren't back here. We were fine.
- 23:52We were fine guys. We had made it past this part.
- 23:54What do you mean? What do you mean that person's
- 23:57back? What do?
- 23:57You mean the music in this show? Horrible.
- 24:03No, how dare you. I knew you were going to say it
- 24:05was horrible. I was going to stand up for
- 24:07that. That nail song, that nail song
- 24:10at the end of each episode when it was like, dude, dude, I ate
- 24:14it. Up.
- 24:15I don't know. That was the most, you know how
- 24:17they say like music and like cliche.
- 24:19Now it takes you back to a time like that was what triggered me
- 24:22the most. But that's.
- 24:23The thing is that this show is so K drama that I was like OK
- 24:26but then after certain point it started to grate on me and I was
- 24:30like no no no I can't support this.
- 24:32I can't afford this. I mean, I wouldn't say the
- 24:34entire OST. It's just that song, no?
- 24:37It's not even the OST, it's just the score.
- 24:39Music, the actual score, yeah, yeah, that's, I mean, that
- 24:42opening score is I love that score.
- 24:45It was. It just signaled.
- 24:47I was like, what is this Walmart Jason Bourne music that they
- 24:50have? It, yeah, it was.
- 24:52It was very dated though. It was because I can think of, I
- 24:55can think of like maybe five other dramas from that time, the
- 24:58same score. Exactly.
- 25:01I think it's the exact same person who did it for everyone.
- 25:05I mean, I'm like, this is the exact same person who did this.
- 25:08It's so tacky, I can't. But it transports you to a time.
- 25:12And you're right, it does. This is one of those shows where
- 25:15everybody's connected in ways that you don't expect, but then
- 25:17you kind of do expect that everyone is connected.
- 25:20And I was like, I've lost this like part this 6th sense a
- 25:24little bit that I used to have. Because I love this and.
- 25:28People aren't connected as much nowadays in K dramas.
- 25:33In this one, it's like, oh. Everybody has the assassin with
- 25:37what else? Dad is the father of the sass.
- 25:41The Sassin is this is related to?
- 25:43Yeah, absolutely. I was like, he floated down a
- 25:46river and landed, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:50I thought you were giving some. No, no, no, wait, wait.
- 25:53What do you mean? I was like, look.
- 25:56At one point, and this isn't much of a spoiler.
- 25:59OK. He gets shot, falls off a Cliff,
- 26:03survives all of that, yes, and then floats down a river Rapids
- 26:10to end up at this little shoreline where there's a
- 26:14whitewater rafting company. There, just right there.
- 26:18Which I'm like okay I've been whitewater rafting 3 times, I
- 26:20understand this. And this old man is there, and
- 26:24that man is connected to the whole thing.
- 26:27Whole thing set up the whole thing.
- 26:29The entire. They have a whole history.
- 26:31I was like, what the hell? Like, you know, that's the kind
- 26:34of thing where I'm like, this is beyond coincidence.
- 26:38This is on another. One might be writing this.
- 26:40Yeah. I was like, someone might be
- 26:41really, really writing. Somebody has.
- 26:43Too hard. It's very.
- 26:44A little too hard, actually. You're writing a little.
- 26:47Too, She might be doing too much because Oh my God.
- 26:50And that was the kind of thing done times 10 in the show, yes.
- 26:54Throughout the entire. Thing throughout throughout.
- 26:58What else can I say about this show?
- 27:00A Long story short, I had a great time like I had a great
- 27:04time. I was, I was excited that you
- 27:07seem to have got had that excited feeling that I remember
- 27:11having the watching it the first time, but that was genuine like.
- 27:14I got. I think I have a.
- 27:15Blast, you did, which is wonderful.
- 27:18I like backed up. In the middle between your
- 27:21initial watch and your current. Current watch.
- 27:24I love that because you have such a, you know, a mature cave
- 27:28drummer brain watching it. So you know, you you have to
- 27:32have some of the, you know the current.
- 27:33You kind of have to like, laugh at a lot of.
- 27:35It too you. Have to have a sense of humor
- 27:37about some of it, but it's also respect for the old, the complex
- 27:41respect for the old, the old ways, the old style.
- 27:44Also it's serious as a heart attack like.
- 27:46They're just so serious. They're not getting around.
- 27:49They're not. They're not getting around.
- 27:50This is not a joke, guys. This is serious.
- 27:52Big Smith. Yeah, he's gonna die.
- 27:54He's gonna. He's on the run.
- 27:58He has to survive. I didn't.
- 27:59Expect so much parkour. I did because it's it's him.
- 28:03I knew it. I this is, that's kind of stuff
- 28:05I was talking about where I was like and I think he did like.
- 28:07He's a very physical actor, he is.
- 28:09Do I believe he was doing all the parkour?
- 28:11Lot of them. Come on, he did.
- 28:13A lot of them. Come on.
- 28:15Girl. I'm going to sit up for him and
- 28:18his parkour skills. Oh my God.
- 28:20Did a lot of them. Let's check in with him.
- 28:22And the same with Song Denim the Assassin.
- 28:28He definitely did. He did none of them.
- 28:29He did none of them. He did none of them.
- 28:32I'm sure, I'm sure he did none of them.
- 28:34But you know, I'm a huge fan of Damon.
- 28:35Again. Rest in peace, Tatum.
- 28:39But I don't think he did any. I don't I don't I will fight for
- 28:43Junkie, but I I won't say the same thing for J Brown.
- 28:46I probably would not. That's.
- 28:48Incredible that you're like no for sure he junkie did all of
- 28:52his stuff. His stuff, yeah, all of his
- 28:54parkour stuff. Fight me on it.
- 28:56There's definitely an interview where he definitely says he does
- 28:59not, but I'm probably like. It doesn't matter.
- 29:01He's lying. I didn't hear that.
- 29:02Like. The wardrobe on Paktikyong, that
- 29:06character, I'm sorry, but I would wear that today.
- 29:09I love it the. Tennis shoes.
- 29:11The new balances all the blazer with the Blazers and the and the
- 29:17cropped work pants. He's like, this is what we wear
- 29:20today. I would wear that.
- 29:22That's what we wear to wear. Yeah, I wear tennis shoes to
- 29:24work every single day, so I relate wholeheartedly.
- 29:28I also love her haircut back in the day when she had the
- 29:31shortcut. Yes, she had like an egg.
- 29:34Not an egg cut. I like her egg cut.
- 29:36You know who has the same haircut?
- 29:37Now? Now.
- 29:39Oh my God, what's his name? I'm leave the door open.
- 29:44That guy. Oh, Bruno Mars.
- 29:47No, no, no. Who's the other guy?
- 29:49Wait. Oh, Anderson Park.
- 29:53Anderson, Pet. Is that real?
- 29:55I thought it was a wig. Girl A.
- 29:56Wig. Her hair is so much better than
- 29:58that. OK, Oh my.
- 30:00God, you cannot compare that to his head.
- 30:02No apps. I will not let you do this to
- 30:05her. Come on, Jess.
- 30:07You know, target target lady, The SNL sketch.
- 30:10No, it's not that bad, Jack. Guys, she's kidding.
- 30:15It is not that bad. You're right, it's not that bad.
- 30:18It looked really cute on her. It.
- 30:20Did. But I had a thing where I was
- 30:21like, OK, she's supposed to be Butch.
- 30:24They did you tell the 1st 2 they were?
- 30:27Speculating in the process. Of calling her a lesbian.
- 30:29Yeah, Calling her a lesbian, Yes.
- 30:31I was like, I don't remember this moment from 2013.
- 30:34I was like, oh, they were talking about that back then.
- 30:37They were. And then her relationship with,
- 30:40oh, yes, the girl. I was like, oh, there was giving
- 30:42something there, some undertones.
- 30:45I did feel that way. You didn't feel that way.
- 30:48My second time I felt it but also I'm a fan of like platonic
- 30:51friendship. True.
- 30:52Which is a real thing. Which it's a real thing.
- 30:54I know people try to take that away from characters all the
- 30:57time. I was like we could.
- 30:58It was straddling the line because of the comments.
- 31:00It was, that's why I think I turned to because I think
- 31:03originally I did not get that vibe, but I think when I
- 31:06connected that they had even called that out about her, I was
- 31:08like, oh, were they trying to tell us something?
- 31:12I don't, you know what I mean? Like I didn't know.
- 31:13I didn't know, I didn't know. You mentioned Pak Hassan, who
- 31:18plays Inhe like the mother character.
- 31:21I had never seen her before. You've never seen her.
- 31:23Never. And then like you've ever
- 31:24watched her act in anything. Correct.
- 31:27Jess, I'm sure you have. Right.
- 31:30Well, now I have to look her up. Hold on.
- 31:33Yeah, let's look her up. Wait.
- 31:34I'm like Hassan, You've had to have seen her with something.
- 31:39Donkey. No donkey.
- 31:42No, I haven't seen Donkey before.
- 31:44I have to watch it. Yeah, maybe you haven't.
- 31:47I'm looking at our movies too. Even drinking solo I haven't
- 31:50watched that. Midnight Runners movie.
- 31:54Oh yeah, I have watched that. She's in there.
- 31:56OK I've literally just watched her in Midnight Runners.
- 31:59Midnight Runners. OK, OK.
- 32:01She was popular back in the day. I feel like.
- 32:03Yeah, I can tell all the time. I can tell.
- 32:06Oh, did you check out the veil when that came out?
- 32:08Remember the veil with all the money that they spent on that?
- 32:10And it was horrible. No.
- 32:14She was in that, she was in that.
- 32:16Oh, she was in that. I dropped it.
- 32:18It was it was bad. I couldn't get past like the
- 32:21first half of that drama. Speaking of outfits, we have to
- 32:24talk about the. MERS no the man purse on cops
- 32:29and roof which doubled as his gun holster.
- 32:33Not the MERS. You did not just call it a it's
- 32:39a MERS. No, I'm talking about the with
- 32:42all the cleavage out on Sue the actor Wu.
- 32:46Sue Young Remember our detective, His chest was not Oh
- 32:50my God, I. Mean cleavage.
- 32:52The chest was. Oh my God.
- 32:54Hex I was like come on this low. No, he's so.
- 32:57Cut whatever. I could not believe that.
- 33:01I couldn't believe it too. I have that in my notes about
- 33:04him because there's a scene where he get he gets away pace
- 33:08on the character gets away, and the prosecutor starts chewing
- 33:13out some woo. Yes, that she's so mad because
- 33:16he's pissed. But he's standing in front of
- 33:19her black wife beater with the gun holsters the holster.
- 33:24Just check the just. Over his shoulders and he hecks.
- 33:28He was sweaty and I was like, wait.
- 33:31It was a lot it we. Need to talk about this.
- 33:33It was a. Lot, yeah, it was 'cause all of
- 33:35his outfits, he had this very low cut wife beater.
- 33:38Yeah, he was super slutty. Super.
- 33:41Super. I promise you they cut his wife
- 33:44beaters like they they were not normal cut wife beaters 'cause
- 33:46they were like sagging. No.
- 33:48Yeah, his whole chest, his whole cleavage, yeah was out they.
- 33:52Wanted to show that man's body. Wanted to, yeah.
- 33:54And I. Wasn't mad.
- 33:55I wasn't mad at it wasn't, don't get me wrong.
- 33:57I mean I. Kept being like it kept.
- 33:59Every time it came up I was like for my notes.
- 34:02For my notes. I need to turn my notes.
- 34:08I just need to take notes of this.
- 34:09They showed his chest again, like you said, sweaty with the
- 34:13holster on. Like it's just like working.
- 34:17It was working. It's working.
- 34:19It's doing a lot of they do. What they do don't work, work,
- 34:22work work. He was going to work.
- 34:24He was definitely going to work though.
- 34:26It was impressive. It was.
- 34:29To see a beefy man like that, be the second beefy.
- 34:31It was beefy. It was.
- 34:32It was a beef cake first. So I had nothing.
- 34:38No like to say, yeah, no bad notes.
- 34:41Those are all good notes. No, all good notes, but I had no
- 34:43polite thoughts to share. Just.
- 34:46Like, I don't have anything else to say about that.
- 34:48No, it was a good time. No, I was transfixed.
- 34:53And they knew what they were doing.
- 34:54They knew. It knew it.
- 34:55The. Shots And I was like, oh, is
- 34:57this supposed to also support the fact that Paktik Young that
- 35:01prosecutor may or may not be a lesbian because she's just
- 35:04standing there not. Yelling at him, blinking.
- 35:08And not even blinking twice and I would have been like.
- 35:10I would have yeah, I would have like just completely short
- 35:13circuited like what was I saying?
- 35:15You almost shot him? Wait, you almost cuz he's.
- 35:18Undeniably sexy. He is so I mean hot, hot, hot,
- 35:23hot with a capital. A It gave Eden Ghee a run for
- 35:28his body. Oh it.
- 35:29Definitely did. He couldn't.
- 35:30I mean, he couldn't really hold a candle.
- 35:32No, honestly. And then you see, you see Eden
- 35:35Ghee shirtless in the show. And it's nothing, and it's
- 35:37compared to. Nothing that, just that one
- 35:41scene I was like. Oh, I will never forget.
- 35:44Literally just. Now we just spent like 3 minutes
- 35:49so I can go by his chest, try to edit this way, try to.
- 35:54Edit that out because it's. Like that was they went on a
- 35:57little too long on that one. They did these. 2.
- 36:03I just. Thirsting over this man.
- 36:07OK, anyway, Long story short, I had a good time, even if it is
- 36:11definitely showing its age. Yes, definitely.
- 36:14What was the most 2013 thing about the show?
- 36:17Besides the hair. Which hair?
- 36:20Which hair are you talking about?
- 36:21Are you? Talking definitely junkies.
- 36:23Yes, definitely junkies. I mean, that hair took me back
- 36:26immediately. Well, they also did.
- 36:28Something back to it Yeah, they kept changing because he was
- 36:31going on the. Picture of it was like all
- 36:33different than how I've seen in other shows.
- 36:35Yeah, and even like the like the opening episodes when it was
- 36:37like super frizzy. Yeah, it was like, really
- 36:39frizzy, frizzy. Look fried.
- 36:41Fried dyed way to the side and then they like smoothed it out
- 36:45in the flashback. So it was it's like a nice
- 36:47little, you know, the Bieber cut, the Bieber cut swoop.
- 36:50So that was fine. But that takes me back to 2013
- 36:53easily. I see hair like that and the
- 36:56cage. I'm like, we must be 2011, 2012,
- 36:592013, you must be there. So hair for sure, but I think
- 37:04also like the the dramatic, like I said, the writer, she has a
- 37:08style and she's good with that. But I mean, it was so dramatic
- 37:13and a lot of some of the stuff was heavy-handed.
- 37:15Like you can see some of her references, like she, she had a
- 37:18lot of biblical things in there too.
- 37:20Like, I mean, I feel like that also took me back into that time
- 37:23where you can tell they were just like they were writing.
- 37:26They got to make sure, you know, we're connecting dots here.
- 37:29We have this in there. We're throwing this in.
- 37:32We're crossing our teeth. We're crossing our teeth.
- 37:33Exactly. That's what it felt like.
- 37:35And that took me back to 2013 for sure.
- 37:38Well, the the story is so full, you know what I'm saying?
- 37:42It's a full meal and often times in today's K dramas they don't
- 37:46cross their TS and dot their IS. It's just the actual fault of a
- 37:51lot of new K dramas and no one's talking about it.
- 37:54Yeah, no. One's talking where I'm like,
- 37:56why do I solve questions after this whole thing?
- 37:58It shouldn't be like up to interpretation.
- 38:00It should be like, oh, why did that person just, you know what
- 38:04I'm saying? People disappear in these dramas
- 38:06all the time. Like what happened to that
- 38:07character? Like there's no actual arc.
- 38:10Like, why did she peak an episode before?
- 38:13Like, I don't understand. Yeah, no one's talking about
- 38:17that. And so this one felt very full,
- 38:19full circle, all-encompassing it.
- 38:21Was everything that we wanted to connect, she knew.
- 38:25Where things are going to end. And she wrote it that way.
- 38:29I love it. I love.
- 38:30It so like, despite us kind of criticizing the style, we're
- 38:36also admiring how absolutely she really had an outline here for
- 38:42how this was going to end. It made me think about those
- 38:44dramas back then too, like the Iris irises, you know, where
- 38:47it's just like you have too many characters not to be with your
- 38:52like character. You need a chart on a big white
- 38:55board. You need to be drawing lines.
- 38:57You need to be having people cross checking.
- 39:00Like you need to have a couple editors involved in this.
- 39:02Like you can tell that was involved in this, in this
- 39:05writing where it's like, OK, we have too many characters, too
- 39:08many places we want to connect them to.
- 39:10We want everyone connected. We have these things happening
- 39:13simultaneously. We have this big political arc,
- 39:16you know, that we're we're touching on that's connected to
- 39:18the small fry. You know, we have to make it all
- 39:22connect to make sense and so you can see the storyboard layout.
- 39:25I felt like you could see it written out and I thought that
- 39:28was really well done. Yeah, that's what.
- 39:30It was done. Yeah, it.
- 39:31Was, I think the most 2013 about this thing is the fact that
- 39:36we're living in a in 2013, we were living in an era where we
- 39:39had cell phones, but we also have pay phones.
- 39:41Oh. Yes.
- 39:43Oh my God. And not everyone had a cell
- 39:46phone. And not everyone had, you know.
- 39:49Access to the page. So it was this weird in between
- 39:52time. I love that.
- 39:54Where we, we were like, oh, we'll just not communicate or,
- 39:59you know, take the trouble and talk to somebody on the pay
- 40:01phone. Find a payphone.
- 40:03I forget about the payphone and their their absence these days,
- 40:08because I remember when they're like the last payphone ever.
- 40:10It's got it's finally been removed in the states.
- 40:12So it was like that's the thing, like people got rid of these
- 40:15payphones and but back in K drama land, the payphone was a
- 40:20huge like it's a lifeline. It's a big piece of a plot
- 40:24sometimes, like if you don't have that payphone scene, the
- 40:27whole drama wouldn't be the drama, you know.
- 40:29So you're absolutely right. It was in between.
- 40:33Between time of like analog and and this interconnected, like
- 40:38people are taking video of some events that are happening on
- 40:42their cell phone and I'm like, Oh my God, but then like nothing
- 40:44comes of it. They don't, they don't sound
- 40:45like oh, but then they posted it and now it's gone viral and my
- 40:49face is. Everywhere viral.
- 40:50Stuff no like the news was very important, the media.
- 40:53Traditional Traditional meeting was the.
- 40:56Newspaper was very important. He's holding a newspaper and his
- 40:59face is on the newspaper. I remember I like that scene
- 41:03because he also was trying to hide because he but he was very
- 41:06bold about it. He was like he stared him right
- 41:08in the face, like it's not me. But then there's all the CCTV
- 41:13that's constantly catching them at different points and I I
- 41:17loved this exact time period because it had everything.
- 41:22I love it too. I'm sorry, I don't have bias.
- 41:25I am very biased. If anyone has ever listened to
- 41:27me talking about K drovers, they probably know I'm quite biased
- 41:30to a time and K drove the land and this is that time.
- 41:33But I think you're highlighting such a something that I guess I
- 41:37didn't even note for myself about why maybe I'm still so
- 41:40drawn to that time. It does kind of put me back in a
- 41:43space where things that just are no longer a thing, I get to see
- 41:48them a thing again. And I think that is a cool a
- 41:52cool thing to do sometimes to go back and see something that you
- 41:55don't get to see it everyday in K dramas.
- 41:58Absolutely, I had a lot of fun. What would you rate this drama
- 42:02out of Fives Hoji bottles? Back in the day it was pretty
- 42:05high. I think back in the day, my
- 42:06first watch, I was definitely probably a 4.5.
- 42:10Like I thought it was super and I enjoyed the process of
- 42:14watching this drama back then. I the.
- 42:15Thing is, this benefits from the weekly watch.
- 42:18It does. It's huge.
- 42:19I mean, the anticipation I the waiting for the next week to
- 42:23watch what was going to happen was was a huge selling point for
- 42:27this drama for me. So I think back then I would
- 42:30have rated it very, very high. But over time, like I mentioned,
- 42:33I think I really forgot about this drama.
- 42:36So I feel like that obviously that means that for me, it
- 42:38didn't stand the test of my time with K dramas, you know, so and
- 42:43then after the rewatch, like I said, I kind of felt like it was
- 42:46I saw a lot of the like, OK, OK, guys, we're doing this again and
- 42:50again and again. I think I know even if I hadn't
- 42:53watched it in the past, I feel like if I had watched it now for
- 42:56the first time, I feel like I would have gotten all those
- 42:59everything that was going to happen.
- 43:00I probably would have figured it out before it happened.
- 43:03I think it was like I kind of know exactly what's about to
- 43:06happen in each episode. So I would say for me, it
- 43:09definitely dropped down. I would probably put it around a
- 43:133.5 now, but for a first time watch in this time, you know,
- 43:21watching it, you know, weekly it was it was pretty high for me,
- 43:25but not so much now. OK, so it dropped up like a
- 43:28point 1.1 soldier. Bottle 1.1 Soldier. 1 Soldier.
- 43:33OK so you have 3.5 would have been 4.5 back in the day if I
- 43:36yes did this episode with you in 2013 or?
- 43:391413 exactly. I, I would probably rate it the
- 43:44same or maybe slightly higher, maybe like 4.
- 43:48OK, OK. Because I had a great time.
- 43:51I, I was thoroughly entertained. It was very easy to press play
- 43:56on the next episode. It's a summer show.
- 44:00It felt hot watching it. It felt hot, it felt hot and I
- 44:03miss that. I miss that about the seasons in
- 44:06Drama Land. It was very nostalgic in a lot
- 44:10of ways like we have already mentioned.
- 44:11But this one we haven't talked about, which is the fact that
- 44:13everyone's freaking sweating, sweating their.
- 44:15Sweating and you can tell, yes, it's hot out there.
- 44:18It's hot. They're filming this in the
- 44:20heat. And that's part of the reason
- 44:23why there was such a thing about watching dramas in the season
- 44:27that they were airing is because they were also filming them.
- 44:30At the same time, at the same. Time.
- 44:32And so everyone's dealing with the same freaking heat wave,
- 44:35everyone's dealing with the same snow or freezing temperatures,
- 44:39and it came across as a visceral thing in every drama that was
- 44:42airing during that season. And it was very important, I
- 44:45think, to the process. And it also led to all the
- 44:47controversies that came out during filming back then because
- 44:51of how it was like, unfair to actors, right?
- 44:54They were not sleeping until 3:00 AM and they didn't get a
- 44:58break and it. Was it was hot?
- 44:59It was hot, yeah. It was serious business.
- 45:03So. But I think, like you said, it
- 45:05comes across in the portrayals, It comes across in the writing.
- 45:10Like I said, you have to cross your teeth and dot your eyes
- 45:12when you know people's lives on the line here before dying from
- 45:17the teeth outside. You know, like they had to do a
- 45:19good job of making sure we weren't just throwing anything
- 45:22on the screen. So, so there was a lot of
- 45:28pressure I think on dramas back then.
- 45:31And I think to deliver that to deliver.
- 45:33An experience. Exactly, so you have to feel
- 45:36that when not even you had to you did I feel like feel that as
- 45:39the audience, you felt that there was time, there was
- 45:41effort, there was energy, there was pain, there was blood, there
- 45:44was sweat, there was tears put into this episode.
- 45:47So I'm going to enjoy it. OK.
- 45:49And I think that's what I I I miss.
- 45:51For sure they were hungry. They were hungry.
- 45:55They were. Fighting for these spots, for
- 45:57these prime time spots, they need it for the audience share
- 46:00and they don't do that anymore. They're not hungry.
- 46:02Anymore, they don't have to fight.
- 46:03They don't fight. They just put it up on streaming
- 46:05and and they'll find it somewhere.
- 46:07The international audience will find it and eat it up because
- 46:10they don't have some taste that the Korean audience does and
- 46:15it's a different ball game. It is.
- 46:18It really is. This shell did pretty well in
- 46:20it's time. I was looking at the ratings.
- 46:22Great, right? The first episode got between
- 46:257:00 and 8:00, and then it went up.
- 46:29Yeah, it kind of did really well in episode 3.
- 46:34Episode 3 got 10 to 12.8% between Seoul and nationwide and
- 46:39then it kind of like stayed the same around there, 1011%, a
- 46:44little dip. On episode 13, they went down to
- 46:478 to 9.7% and then it went back up and it ended with like double
- 46:53digits for viewership. So people would love these
- 46:57numbers now. People were watching it, man.
- 47:00We were. They were locked in.
- 47:02They were locked in I think 4's, I think 4. 4 is pretty I'm being
- 47:06very kind, but also I'm not yes, I was gonna say that.
- 47:11I'm like, it's getting me at a good time, but also I don't feel
- 47:14like I'm doing the drama a favor by rating at 4 out of five sold
- 47:17you bottles. Exactly.
- 47:19And it's not far off from your rating, which is 3.5. 3.5 yes,
- 47:22yes. We're near, we're really near
- 47:24each other. We had we had very similar
- 47:26experiences. Absolutely.
- 47:29All right, we're going to get started on the spoiler section
- 47:32right after this. Excuse me, you know I have no
- 47:37change. I'm sorry.
- 47:48All right, we're on the other side of spoilers.
- 47:49We're going to spoil what happens in this show.
- 47:51We really didn't give too much away.
- 47:53I think I said 1 scene that happened thing that happened in
- 47:58the non spoiler section. But really we haven't.
- 48:00I have notes episode by episode. However, I am not going to go
- 48:03plop B by plop BI. Think that's kind of a waste of
- 48:06time, but I do have notes that I want to cover in episode 1, we
- 48:12they start us in right? They drop us right in the middle
- 48:16of the action 'cause he's sitting in the back of a cop
- 48:19car. You don't know why he's there.
- 48:21He's covered in injuries and cuts and scrapes and then
- 48:25there's this girl driving crazy in a Nissan 350Z, which the
- 48:30Nissan 350. When I saw that car, I was like,
- 48:32Oh my God, that car was hot. That car was hot back then.
- 48:35I wanted that car. Wanted.
- 48:36That car, yes, the Nissan I wanted.
- 48:40Oh my God. So it was very nostalgic to see
- 48:42that car again, but this girl's driving crazy and she ends up
- 48:45causing this massive pile up and the cop van that's got him
- 48:50crashes and it's this whole you're like, Oh my God.
- 48:53What the hell has happened? Opening sequence.
- 48:55That's your opening sequence, that's your hook, and boom, they
- 48:58take you back in time to show you how he got there.
- 49:01I love that. Right, I love it.
- 49:03Forgot that was a moment. I was like, why did they just
- 49:07completely throw us in there? But I do remember feeling like
- 49:10this was a drama that definitely like stacks, like it was a drama
- 49:15that like every episode we're going to get another layer.
- 49:18I'm just going to get further and further into this, like
- 49:20momentum. Absolutely.
- 49:22It was so nonstop. So to have an opening sequence
- 49:25like that, you were set up for what was gonna come.
- 49:28It was like this drum was not gonna slow down at any point.
- 49:30It's just gonna keep going. It had its foot on the freaking
- 49:33gas it. Had two, I mean, they had the
- 49:36title in itself. Knowing that we had two, two
- 49:38weeks, it was perfect. It was like, we're about to get
- 49:42this all done in two weeks, guys, so buckle up.
- 49:46And I thought oh man I forgot to say this in the non spoilers
- 49:49section but I love the fact that there each episode is a day.
- 49:53I love that and then the showing the time at the bottom of the
- 49:56screen when we would have like they would signal how long
- 49:59something would happen or how long he was hiding somewhere.
- 50:03I really did like that too. Yeah, and the little device of
- 50:06the daughter crossing off the Dick.
- 50:09And that's when the song kick in.
- 50:11And yes, I love those. I love the cross of the day and
- 50:14the song with Kick In. And there's a dopey smile like.
- 50:18He's, well, he's, he's literally getting shot.
- 50:20And she's like, he, he, he yeah, I saw day 7.
- 50:23Like, I was like, Oh my God, he's gonna die, I think.
- 50:28This whole show, Oh my God. You know Monsters Inc.
- 50:31Yes. When Sully thinks that Boo is
- 50:34being eaten up by the garbage. Yes.
- 50:37Yeah, the garbage. Compactor, Compactor, yes, thank
- 50:42you and. He's freaking out and he's like
- 50:46and like going through all of these emotions.
- 50:47And she's right. There, and she's right there and
- 50:48nothing's happening. That is me watching the show.
- 50:51I am Sully. You are Sully crying, freaking
- 50:54out like it was gonna happen. And we're like, I'm over here.
- 50:58Like I know kind of how this ends.
- 51:00Right. You're the Mike Wazowski in this
- 51:02situation. He's like, where were you?
- 51:03Let's go. I love that we have a monsters.
- 51:08Inc No, we do. We have to perfect.
- 51:10This is perfect. Pixar all day.
- 51:12The main character, Tehsan, who is our jiggy character.
- 51:15He's a gambler, Reluctant. Gigolo.
- 51:18Reluctant. Very reluctant.
- 51:20Very seriously gigolo and an ex mobster slash gangster type who
- 51:26has done prison time and he's working in a pawn shop and I was
- 51:31like this is very man from nowhere.
- 51:34You know what I'm saying? It was.
- 51:37I mean, did we catch that then? I don't know.
- 51:40I don't know if we did. I don't.
- 51:41Well, I wasn't watching The Man from Nowhere in 2013, and it
- 51:43came a few years later, but I thought that this was like a
- 51:47thing back then all of a sudden, like the pawn shop worker with
- 51:50the heart of gold. I think it is a thing.
- 51:53I don't know. I don't know why why pawn shops
- 51:56were so big back then. Girl, I don't know, but he turns
- 52:01on the TV after this one night stand that he was very reluctant
- 52:04to do. He kind of basically got too
- 52:06drunk and slept with this lady, and she gave him money from
- 52:09sleeping with her. So he's like, damn it, like he's
- 52:11kind of like, fuck, I didn't mean to do that.
- 52:13But anyway, he gets home and he turns on the TV and he's
- 52:17watching Reply 1997. Yeah.
- 52:22I was shocked to see reply in 1997 on the.
- 52:25Screen I, I, I, I'm surprised they did that.
- 52:28Like, I don't know, I feel like they didn't do that very often
- 52:31back then, did they? I mean.
- 52:33Well, to show a drama within another drama, I feel like I've
- 52:35seen that quite a bit, but it's always a surprise.
- 52:38Surprise or it's always like a older like classic.
- 52:41So that's why I guess I was too recent.
- 52:43It's recent. Yeah, I was.
- 52:44That's why I think threw me off. I'm like, usually a show like a
- 52:46classic, like All In would be playing, right, Right, right.
- 52:49But this was too recent. I was like, I see.
- 52:52Network hold. On Was it NBC I Think.
- 52:55It's it might be the same network.
- 52:57Yeah, I think it was NBC. Yeah, it's NBC.
- 53:01I think that's why. So that's why it's.
- 53:03Basically free advertisement free.
- 53:04Advertisement Let's go throw that one in there real quick,
- 53:07yeah? But this is my favorite part of
- 53:09the show is that when he, the ex shows up Inhe yes, inhe shows up
- 53:15and she's like, hey, I need you. I'm actually, I'm demanding that
- 53:19you go get a blood test to see if you're viable for a bone
- 53:23marrow donation because surprise, you have an 8 year old
- 53:28daughter. With leukemia and she's dying.
- 53:30She's dying. Need.
- 53:31You. Yeah.
- 53:33Oh my God. And the flashback is so damning
- 53:36of him telling her to get an abortion.
- 53:39Abortion doesn't love her anymore.
- 53:40This is the baby and her are burdened to him and he's being
- 53:43really cruel. And I'm like, Oh no.
- 53:45What happened? Why would you do that to her?
- 53:47You know, why would he possibly do that to somebody that he's
- 53:52been dating? Obviously, what there has to me,
- 53:57even then, back then I was like, come on, you got to know there's
- 54:00something else going on. Like why would he?
- 54:02That's the. Thing is that you're like, oh, I
- 54:05see Sonia is an idiot because she look, look, not for nothing,
- 54:13but if he did something and and it turns out that this is
- 54:16totally out of character. He was doing this.
- 54:18He would never do this. He would never do this.
- 54:19He was actually happy that she was pregnant and all this stuff.
- 54:22It's it's a whole lie that he fed her because he wanted to
- 54:27break up with her and save her life because her life was being
- 54:31threatened by the big bad gangster guy.
- 54:35All good and fine, but if I was her exactly I would have done
- 54:39more digging. She knew that he was in some
- 54:40sort of shit right? Like he he had some sort.
- 54:43Of path she. Knew that she wanted him to get
- 54:45out of the gangster life, liquor job, that he was slinging like
- 54:51liquor as a delivery guy sort of thing.
- 54:54And she was like, I don't think you should do that anymore.
- 54:56And he was like, yeah, of course I was kind of.
- 54:58Quit anyway. I didn't wanna do this.
- 55:00Yeah. So he was already committing to
- 55:03the straight and narrow and then he goes and pulls this night
- 55:05like she didn't do enough. To question or to probe because
- 55:10it's true. Like when someone does something
- 55:11that's completely out of their character, right?
- 55:14Just being a good human, you need to in that moment, be like,
- 55:17hey, this isn't really you. Yeah, like, what's going on?
- 55:20Get the. Story.
- 55:21Get the full story. And then in the eight years
- 55:24proceeding, she didn't look up anything.
- 55:27Where he was. Where he was, she didn't.
- 55:30She didn't go into any databases and look up his name.
- 55:32Nothing. He went on a boat somewhere.
- 55:35She's. People do more for 1st dates.
- 55:37Thank you. Then she did it, then she did
- 55:40dating this person and getting pregnant by him and no, no, the
- 55:43baby like having the baby. So it's like you have a a actual
- 55:47child from this man that you completely erased from your
- 55:49memory. Like you completely didn't look
- 55:52him and look into him. Where did he end up going?
- 55:54Did he really end up leaving? Did he get on that boat?
- 55:57I'm just curious to know. But then eight years later, when
- 56:00your daughter is really, really sick and you need something now
- 56:03you can remember him. I was like you.
- 56:04This could have. We could have.
- 56:06Got her all Be for real, be for. Yeah, a lot quicker.
- 56:09No could have. So I didn't like Sony nay at
- 56:12all. I felt really, I was so
- 56:15frustrated with her in this this watch.
- 56:17I was like, I could not believe she did not even try.
- 56:20She. Didn't try and then to find him
- 56:23finally after eight years to get the bone marrow thing, she hired
- 56:26a Private Eye. I was like girl so she so you
- 56:29can hire a Private Eye after eight years.
- 56:31Get somebody so you know how to find somebody.
- 56:33Got it, Got it. Girl.
- 56:37I mean all back, let me come back.
- 56:38Let me come back for NA, even though after their little break
- 56:43up, that whole moment her having a baby, she was without money.
- 56:47She had had a falling out with her family who were not in.
- 56:50Not in. She got.
- 56:51Disowned. She got disowned, so I feel like
- 56:53she did have a lot on her plate. She was a single mom.
- 56:56She was a single mom. She couldn't afford to, you
- 56:58know, she could barely afford a place to live during the winter
- 57:01time, you know, with her little child.
- 57:03So I, I yes, we a. Little bit of grace.
- 57:06A little bit of grace for a mom who was single you.
- 57:09Can go into a PC Vong and freaking look up and look.
- 57:12Criminal and look him up. You can.
- 57:13Yeah, yeah, you can. She didn't, she didn't try.
- 57:17She just said, oh, he broke my heart.
- 57:19I am. I got I'm, I'm erasing him from
- 57:22my memories. I don't, I don't know.
- 57:24It was weird. It was weird.
- 57:25You can look into him. No, I'm sorry.
- 57:28He is the only match to his daughter for a bone marrow
- 57:32transplant and now the clock is ticking.
- 57:35He's got two weeks until the surgery.
- 57:37Surgery, he has to be ready for the surgery and the doctor makes
- 57:40it very plain and clear. If you guys don't let me, let me
- 57:44make this very plain and clear to you guys listening because it
- 57:46was made very plain and clear to us in the open of this reveal of
- 57:51him being the perfect match for his daughter.
- 57:53He has to remain super healthy during this time.
- 57:59He cannot get any type of infection, infection, infection
- 58:03in any kind. So that he is in perfect mint
- 58:06condition to be this, you know, bone marrow transplant donor.
- 58:11Donor, yeah. For his daughter, which I.
- 58:13Haven't done and this is on purpose.
- 58:16I did not look into bone marrow transplant.
- 58:18I did either and I did I purposely.
- 58:20Because. I never do that.
- 58:21I never do. They're full of shit like this
- 58:23whole setup and the fact that he's just out for two weeks and
- 58:26they gave him no medication, medication, nothing to like beef
- 58:30up his marrow, prepare him for that, nothing.
- 58:32I I was like, you know what? It's fine.
- 58:35I don't know. Everything's fine.
- 58:37This is normal. Right, I inherently know and
- 58:40this is so fabricated and wrong of a process bone marrow
- 58:45transplant, but and the fact that anyway, Long story short, I
- 58:49didn't look up anything or the recovery time.
- 58:51Will this actually cure her leukemia?
- 58:53Yeah, I just didn't want to. And, and the doctor, she does a
- 58:58great job of explaining what's going to happen during those two
- 59:01weeks to our little girl, our 8 year old little girl who's
- 59:04already in the hospital. She's going to have to go
- 59:06through a chemotherapy treatment.
- 59:09Radiation treatment. Radiation treatments that are
- 59:11going to is completely weakening her.
- 59:13I mean to the it's. Destroying her bone marrow.
- 59:15It's destroying her, the new bone marrow.
- 59:17So they explain this beautifully to us, so much so that we know
- 59:20that if he does not deliver on being, she's going to die.
- 59:25Like this is her last shot. They are destroying her little
- 59:28body during this two weeks, so much so that she will die if
- 59:33he's not there. OK, so the setup is there
- 59:36earlier on Episode 2. Pressure is we know we.
- 59:40Know if the pressure is. So on a word about this little
- 59:43girl, she's the most adorable little girl.
- 59:44She's the sweetest. Where is this little girl?
- 59:46That's what I did to eat up was like.
- 59:48She plays too gentle. Girl.
- 59:51But is she somewhere now to this day?
- 59:53Because she should be. Yeah, she is.
- 59:55I knew it. I was like, I know she's been.
- 59:58She's still been moving. So she was in Hello Me last.
- 1:00:02That's where we saw her last. But she was such a good actress.
- 1:00:06Oh, my gosh. But they wrote her lines,
- 1:00:08though, did they not? Oh.
- 1:00:10Yes, they did. They gave her some strong heavy.
- 1:00:12I was like, she was like a preacher at at some point I was
- 1:00:16like, this little girl is on a in a pulpit.
- 1:00:18Like I mean, the they gave her some really big lines.
- 1:00:21Like there's this one moment where she's like her mom praying
- 1:00:24for like the safety of, you know, Tyson and his return in
- 1:00:27two weeks so that she can, you know, he can be as to her donor.
- 1:00:31And she's like, mom, why are you still like, why please like
- 1:00:34don't keep doing that. Why are you keep praying so
- 1:00:36much? And she's like, if you keep
- 1:00:38doing that, God's going to get upset because he's going to
- 1:00:40believe that you're not trusting him, you're not believing in
- 1:00:42him. And you keep praying.
- 1:00:44God's going to think you already gave, you already prayed for
- 1:00:46this and he gave me the donor. So why are you still?
- 1:00:48I was just like. And where do you leave the whole
- 1:00:51story that she made-up of the sun and the moon and the
- 1:00:54mountain? Because I think his name.
- 1:00:56Means mountain, they said. What kind of a mountain?
- 1:01:00Sun I think. Is mountain.
- 1:01:03But Tay, she said something it was like, hi mountain or some
- 1:01:05kind of mountain. Yeah.
- 1:01:07And so she's like drawing the picture of the mountain and
- 1:01:10she's like, do you know what a mountain, the rain that's
- 1:01:12pouring down on a mountain, it can break it down and wear it
- 1:01:15down over time. And this is, you know, where an
- 1:01:18episode probably 8 at this point where he's completely tortured.
- 1:01:21He's being tortured every step. So her talking about the
- 1:01:24mountain being rained on, you're like, Oh my gosh.
- 1:01:26She's talking about her father, Tayson.
- 1:01:28It was so heavy. She, I mean the writing, was
- 1:01:32happy for her. And then her mom was the son.
- 1:01:35And then the fiance cop song was the moon.
- 1:01:39Moon. Which I thought was I was like,
- 1:01:41are they foreshadowing the whole end of the the show because the
- 1:01:45sun and the moon, they can't be together?
- 1:01:48They can't be. Together, you know what?
- 1:01:50I'm saying they can't, yeah. And.
- 1:01:53How did you like them? How did you like that structure
- 1:01:57of like her having this fiance, him being this father figure
- 1:02:01already for her daughter? So that was a lot.
- 1:02:03That was very complex. It was.
- 1:02:06That was super nice, complex. I love the whole thing.
- 1:02:09I love to see it play out personally.
- 1:02:14Here's my 2 steps is that I'm torn too.
- 1:02:18I'm torn because I know for a fact that there are wonderful
- 1:02:22step dads out there who love basically somebody else's child
- 1:02:26that they don't have a blood relation to, but they are
- 1:02:28wonderful fathers, wonderful providers, wonderful protectors
- 1:02:30and all the rest. This guy I think what was the
- 1:02:36red flag for me or a yellow flag because it wasn't an overt red
- 1:02:39flag was him describing how he proposed to the mother because
- 1:02:44he goes. I base first of all, they were
- 1:02:46in a relationship for years, years.
- 1:02:47I don't know if it was casual dating.
- 1:02:50They don't really say. They don't really say if it was
- 1:02:52like a serious relationship or just like he's been around, he's
- 1:02:56around her. I took, I felt it more of like
- 1:02:59he was just around. I think so too.
- 1:03:01And he was helping support her during this really hard time of
- 1:03:05being a single mom. Yeah.
- 1:03:06And I yeah, So I was. That's what I thought and it was
- 1:03:10not a relationship of equals exactly how I pictured it.
- 1:03:13Like she really needed this guy in her life and so she leaned on
- 1:03:17him and it almost felt like he was the guy that was friend
- 1:03:21zoned for a long time. It kind of had that vibe to it.
- 1:03:24It did. It totally did.
- 1:03:26And when he finally proposed, what he said was that she looked
- 1:03:31at him for a long. Time.
- 1:03:34And then finally nodded her head.
- 1:03:36Yes, yes, it was a very reluctant yes, it was a.
- 1:03:40Reluctant. Yes.
- 1:03:41Yes, which makes sense. I mean, she he had showed up in
- 1:03:44her life during a very vulnerable season.
- 1:03:48So it made sense to, I think us watching it when like, OK,
- 1:03:53obviously he was a good guy. He was like the story of like,
- 1:03:56oh, he's a good guy. Yeah, he's helping her out.
- 1:03:59But that doesn't mean she's in love with this man.
- 1:04:01Exactly. It does not mean that at all.
- 1:04:03You don't have to be in love with the good guy, right?
- 1:04:05He's just a good guy. He's just, I think she said yes
- 1:04:08because he was a good guy. Because he was a good guy.
- 1:04:11And, and she says at the very end of the show, she's like, I
- 1:04:14have a knack for seeing people. She does, yeah.
- 1:04:17So she, she's got a good taste in and then basically.
- 1:04:21I know what I like, I know what I see, what I got.
- 1:04:24And she's not wrong. The guy is a good guy.
- 1:04:26He is a good guy. He ain't the one.
- 1:04:29He's just like, she's not in love with this, she's not in
- 1:04:30love with you, you're just not in love with.
- 1:04:32Him and he was head over heels in love with this little girl,
- 1:04:35loved her to death wanted to be her dad, was doing everything
- 1:04:39possible to kind of like ingratiate himself with her and
- 1:04:42get her to like him. And I thought what was cool was
- 1:04:44that the little girl was like, I don't like you because you are
- 1:04:47good to my mom. I like.
- 1:04:49Your good to me. I, I mean, she was like I said,
- 1:04:52she was on another level. She was astute.
- 1:04:55She was a wise, wise one. Let's just say that.
- 1:04:58But I think I love that too. I think that the little girl was
- 1:05:01so she was just such a had such a big heart and I was like,
- 1:05:06where did she get that little heart from?
- 1:05:07You know, I was like, she was such a sweetheart and who
- 1:05:10wouldn't fall in love with that little girl?
- 1:05:11Like I would want to be her father too, like she was.
- 1:05:14Because when he goes to the hospital in episode 1 and sees
- 1:05:17her and she says, I thought she calls him dad immediately.
- 1:05:21Taysong. This is Taysong.
- 1:05:22She calls Taysong dad immediately.
- 1:05:24And we're like, wait, why did how did she know?
- 1:05:26No, that's her dad? Because she's been told he's he
- 1:05:28died. Yeah.
- 1:05:30But we find out that she had had saved a little photo that her
- 1:05:35mom had ripped to shred. She got taped back together a
- 1:05:38picture of her mom and Taysong. And she always knew that was her
- 1:05:42father because of that picture. And so when she sees him in the
- 1:05:45hospital and she calls out to him like, that's my dad.
- 1:05:48Oh my God, with her fake smile and he's totally shocked.
- 1:05:52Like what did she just call me her dad?
- 1:05:54Like he literally like did she just call me?
- 1:05:55Did. She do that to everybody.
- 1:05:56Yes, that's what she said, what he said.
- 1:06:00But she immediately worms her. Embrace him.
- 1:06:04Embraced. Him into his heart and embraces
- 1:06:07him and is so happy that he's there.
- 1:06:10And doesn't even recognize that he's her donor necessarily.
- 1:06:13When she embraces him, she's embracing him because she's
- 1:06:15doing like, that's my bad guy. And he showed up and he knows
- 1:06:18I'm sick. You know, he must have showed up
- 1:06:19because I'm sick. Yeah.
- 1:06:20Like, she took it in as like, oh, he's showing up because this
- 1:06:23is important time for me as opposed to it being like, oh,
- 1:06:26and this man is giving me, you know, supposed to be my donor.
- 1:06:29She doesn't even know that yet when she's so welcoming.
- 1:06:31And even without you knowing all the circumstances that led to
- 1:06:36him saying you should get an abortion and forcing her to get
- 1:06:39an abortion, obviously she doesn't get it back in the days,
- 1:06:42hey, you know from this reaction to him meeting her that he's
- 1:06:46like, Oh my God, like he's a dad.
- 1:06:48I wanted. I wanted to be.
- 1:06:49This is day one of being a dad. I wanted to be her dad and
- 1:06:53that's what they do throughout the drama, which I don't know
- 1:06:55how you felt about it, but I like this.
- 1:06:57I knew you were gonna say I was. I was hoping you like this.
- 1:07:00But the idea that throughout him, like on being on the run,
- 1:07:04he continues to have moments where he like dreams of
- 1:07:07conversations of that he has with his.
- 1:07:09You might say it's a hallucination, but I'm gonna be
- 1:07:11kinder. Some of the first ones were
- 1:07:13dreams. And then there was a point where
- 1:07:14he started to stream. Just sees her.
- 1:07:15He's just seeing her, Yeah. And he's talking to his little
- 1:07:19daughter. And he's like, forming this
- 1:07:20relationship with this version of her that he doesn't know his
- 1:07:23head in his head. And you could love seeing how he
- 1:07:28respects her already. He loves this little girl.
- 1:07:30He he knows like I got to be. I guess like I will die for this
- 1:07:33little. Girl, I will die for this little
- 1:07:35girl, I don't care. And it's so sweet to watch that.
- 1:07:38And I think that was really important that they gave us
- 1:07:40those moments because we had meet a lot.
- 1:07:42More too, because first of all, he didn't know that he had a
- 1:07:45daughter for eight years and second of all, he's a friggin
- 1:07:48orphan. He he never had a dad, never
- 1:07:52grew up with a dad, his dad was absent, never knew who his dad
- 1:07:55was and then his mother commit suicide.
- 1:07:58On his birthday. On his fucking birth, yes.
- 1:08:02Yes, it was heartbreaking. I was glad.
- 1:08:05I'm glad you brought that up. I was going to say that was one
- 1:08:07of the parts that really hit me as far as like, just
- 1:08:10understanding his character better or the most was like,
- 1:08:13when he mentions like, I didn't think that I would ever do this
- 1:08:16to my own child where she would be fatherless and be looking and
- 1:08:20hoping to have this relationship with the father that isn't
- 1:08:23there. And he is like, I can't believe
- 1:08:25I did that to her, you know? And then his little
- 1:08:28hallucination of his daughter pops up.
- 1:08:29But she was like, yeah, I, I didn't think that was going to
- 1:08:32happen for me either, that I was going to be looking for you and
- 1:08:34I was going to want to know you. But I guess I do, you know?
- 1:08:37And that was just a moment of him being a confirmation of
- 1:08:40like, you're doing the right thing.
- 1:08:42You know, you fighting for her. You wanted to be there for her
- 1:08:46at this point, no matter though, you weren't there for eight
- 1:08:48years. It's OK.
- 1:08:49Like, she still wants to be with you know, who you are.
- 1:08:53And I I was glad he got that kind of confirmation from his
- 1:08:56hallucinations. Yeah, So what happens is he's a
- 1:09:02perfect donor for the little girl.
- 1:09:03He's got two weeks to keep his head on straight and be stay
- 1:09:06healthy. And what happens?
- 1:09:08He gets framed for murder. He's ass down in blood clasping
- 1:09:14a knife. He got framed so dirty from
- 1:09:16basically everybody that he knows.
- 1:09:19So bad so. Bad.
- 1:09:21And this isn't his first rodeo. No taking the the fall for
- 1:09:25someone. Because he's a fall guy, a
- 1:09:27perpetual fall guy. He.
- 1:09:28Is a fall guy. It's his third time being a fall
- 1:09:31guy. And yeah, how do you get that
- 1:09:36the third time? That's the thing and that's.
- 1:09:38Too pure at heart. I know he's so such a pure.
- 1:09:41Yes, he. Is and he, you see throughout
- 1:09:44the show they show you more and more about like, what the hell
- 1:09:47happened? And I think on the second
- 1:09:49framing, he refused to kill somebody.
- 1:09:52Yes, so he had to still take the fall, but.
- 1:09:54So then he took the fall for something.
- 1:09:56Else because he didn't do that. Yeah, He didn't do his job
- 1:09:59basically as a gangster subordinate.
- 1:10:02That's a pure soul, man. He can't even.
- 1:10:04He's like, I can't bring myself to draw blood and.
- 1:10:06He has trauma. Yeah, 'cause his mom, he
- 1:10:08discovered his mom. Yeah, he discovered his mom
- 1:10:11covered in blood, so he has a, a version to blood in general.
- 1:10:14So the idea of him being a murderer just doesn't make sense
- 1:10:18for, you know, the big story, the big plot.
- 1:10:20It's like he would never murder someone.
- 1:10:22But the person he's accused of murdering ends up being a
- 1:10:25prosecutor informant. Nobody knows who it is.
- 1:10:30Nobody knows she's doing this job for the female prosecutor,
- 1:10:33Tae Kyung, And it turns into this huge stink, the stink that
- 1:10:37is the rest of the show. The entire show.
- 1:10:39The entire. Show what I thought was funny Oh
- 1:10:42my God this was so funny to me was that this is the episode 2
- 1:10:46where he's facing off and getting interrogated by the our
- 1:10:49cops Hong Wu, the fiance yes he's like there's prints all
- 1:10:52over the house it's all over her luggage the cups that are in the
- 1:10:57house the whole 9 and he goes plus you've tested positive for
- 1:11:01drugs and I'm like. Of course he has what?
- 1:11:03The hell. Of course.
- 1:11:05And he pulls his his back and there's like, Oh my gosh, he's
- 1:11:09pinned like needle pricks in his arm and.
- 1:11:11He's like and he's like, I didn't, I'm not got it.
- 1:11:15Stop me. I didn't do it.
- 1:11:17It's so great. That's gonna be a do moment
- 1:11:19though. Yeah, isn't it?
- 1:11:19When you put your fist up or you're shaking at the screen,
- 1:11:22you're like, of course. And his reaction in the
- 1:11:25precinct, I'm like, he looks like a crazy person.
- 1:11:27He does. He did.
- 1:11:29And it's totally on purpose. Yeah.
- 1:11:31In in that case, I feel like that's totally on purpose and
- 1:11:33not necessarily like a an over the top decision that they made
- 1:11:37later on in the show. It it this man is at his end,
- 1:11:41like his wits end. He's being framed.
- 1:11:43He doesn't know what's going on. But I appreciate that it clicked
- 1:11:46quickly with him that this is a redo of what has happened to him
- 1:11:50in the past. I was frustrated with the idea
- 1:11:52of like him having to figure it out.
- 1:11:54He didn't have to figure it out. He was like, oh, I've done this.
- 1:11:57This. This isn't my first rodeo with
- 1:11:59being, you know, taking the fall for this guy.
- 1:12:01I know this is who it is. And then that same, I think, I
- 1:12:05don't say the same night, but it's like they're out to kill
- 1:12:08him in jail at that point. Yeah, there's an attempt on him
- 1:12:10to strangle him in the jail, in the precincts jail.
- 1:12:14And again, they don't believe him because the guy, there's so
- 1:12:17much gaslighting. Yes.
- 1:12:19Oh, it's horrible. It's horrible.
- 1:12:20I hate it. Oh, I hate gaslighting with a
- 1:12:23passion. And it was such a I mean, he was
- 1:12:25like, I am innocent. I don't know how else I can tell
- 1:12:28you guy tries to strangle him in the night with a jaw string from
- 1:12:32his pants and they are like, hey, you Tayson, come here,
- 1:12:38you're in trouble. It's like I almost look at my
- 1:12:41neck. He's like showing them the neck.
- 1:12:42Like the guy tried to strangle me.
- 1:12:44I was like, you go see that jaw string is not from Tayson.
- 1:12:47It's from that man, you know. Why would he?
- 1:12:49Just he tipped it. So they said he had tried to
- 1:12:51kill himself. They were like you tried to you.
- 1:12:53Tried to cut yourself. What?
- 1:12:54What with a jaw string from someone else's pants?
- 1:12:58What are you talking about? I thought it was so funny, but
- 1:13:04this is the episode, if we're still in like Episode 2, we've
- 1:13:06talked all over. But this scene that we're
- 1:13:08talking. About episode 2 and this is when
- 1:13:11we find out that the the cop, his dad is the police
- 1:13:16commissioner. And I was like, Oh my God.
- 1:13:18Connections. Connections all around.
- 1:13:19Connections all around. I thought they would do more
- 1:13:21with that. They really didn't.
- 1:13:23They don't. They don't.
- 1:13:25But I mean, he's a neppo baby, which I thought was strange that
- 1:13:28a kid who grew up the son of a police officer.
- 1:13:32Medical school. This was another thing that he
- 1:13:33went to medical. Medical.
- 1:13:35School dropped out of medical school and became a.
- 1:13:38Why? Why they never explained that?
- 1:13:41No, I was like, they never explained why he made that
- 1:13:43decision. I thought that was going to be
- 1:13:45some kind of big point. Willingly being a Napo baby.
- 1:13:48Yeah, he did. And then also that I did, no, I
- 1:13:52was going to say the same thing of like, why didn't they do more
- 1:13:54with that? But I know that originally they
- 1:13:56were using him being that Nepal baby, or at least Jake Young was
- 1:14:00using that against him. She was like, oh, I can't trust
- 1:14:03you because your father probably is connected to the two big wigs
- 1:14:07that I'm trying to take down. So I do think that was where
- 1:14:10they were using that. But then they easily break that
- 1:14:12because he finds out like his father has no connection.
- 1:14:15He's like, OK, you can trust me. My father has no connection.
- 1:14:18Which he just said, Oh yeah, I talk with my dad.
- 1:14:20We never seen him do that, but I checked with him and he's fine.
- 1:14:23He doesn't have any connections to that Lady.
- 1:14:25She just came and asked a favor of him and he was like OK fine,
- 1:14:27but. What, What?
- 1:14:29What? What?
- 1:14:30Why would you? I mean, it was so simple.
- 1:14:31I was like, OK, I guess that's resolved.
- 1:14:33Yeah, move on to the next thing. Yeah.
- 1:14:35So I kind of wanted more with that, but whatever they.
- 1:14:37Interested and his father supported his his engagement yes
- 1:14:41and he also they were like we're gonna your mother and I are
- 1:14:44gonna visit gonna visit our little the little girl like I
- 1:14:47was like wait so his parents are supportive of this I thought
- 1:14:50well they. Could be.
- 1:14:51I think what happened was initially his the police
- 1:14:53commissioner and the wife, his mother were not supportive,
- 1:14:57supportive. But then when he said I'm
- 1:14:59married. Detective.
- 1:15:00And maybe that's what he decided to be the detective.
- 1:15:03No, he was already a detective. He was already.
- 1:15:05A detective even when he met someone that he was already a
- 1:15:08detective. But I think after the the nil in
- 1:15:13the coffin of them bitching about this single mom with an
- 1:15:17absent father or dead father or husband and a child already was
- 1:15:23when he proposed to her and he said we're getting married.
- 1:15:26And get over it. Get over it.
- 1:15:27Get over. It OK, fine.
- 1:15:28We won't bring it up again. Yeah, I was surprised by that.
- 1:15:31I was surprised by that. I thought that was going to be a
- 1:15:33sticking point. Which I think they could have
- 1:15:35made it a big they. Could have.
- 1:15:36They could have, but they didn't.
- 1:15:37They had a lot else going on. I guess we got we got to let
- 1:15:40some of this stuff go, guys, We can't play everything in here.
- 1:15:43Yeah. Oh, but Speaking of, and you
- 1:15:45mentioned the way that they met because she was basically they
- 1:15:48met in Pusan and she was a living statue of a bronze
- 1:15:53mermaid in Pusan. And it kind of looked like movie
- 1:15:57promo to me. Yes, it was like a, like a
- 1:15:59tourist little performance because there was like other
- 1:16:01things going on. There was a.
- 1:16:03Sign in front of her that she was holding about like
- 1:16:05Ghostfusan. It was something.
- 1:16:07It was. Something and.
- 1:16:08Then there was other performances going on around
- 1:16:10her, right? So it was weird, yeah.
- 1:16:12I know. And then he just goes up and
- 1:16:15fondles her breasts. Yeah, he grabs her, wraps her.
- 1:16:19Yeah. And we're can't.
- 1:16:20And they and we were like, does he know?
- 1:16:22And she also questions, did you know I was a real person or did
- 1:16:26you really think I was a statue? And he tells her like, no, I
- 1:16:28didn't know you were a real statue.
- 1:16:30No, what he says is, would I have done it if I knew you were
- 1:16:33a real statue? If I knew you were a real.
- 1:16:36Person. A real person, yeah.
- 1:16:38And she goes, oh, so that means I was doing such a good.
- 1:16:41Job. That he thought I was a real
- 1:16:42statue, a bronze statue. But then.
- 1:16:44She forgives him. Two things, I think he said that
- 1:16:48just to get out of the situation.
- 1:16:50Exactly. Like he told her like what I
- 1:16:52have done just to make her get off his ass over.
- 1:16:55Because he slaps, she does slap him two times.
- 1:16:57That was good. That was good.
- 1:16:59I was hoping she did something but.
- 1:17:00I think he was just doing that just to like shut her up.
- 1:17:04Yeah cuz the whole point cuz I was like the real he knew she
- 1:17:06was real cuz that's why he went to her because he wanted her to
- 1:17:09get down. He wanted cuz the whole reason
- 1:17:10why his. Friend, I'm gonna make her move.
- 1:17:12Make her move, Yeah. And she still doesn't move.
- 1:17:14And she still doesn't move. She's like the plan doesn't
- 1:17:16work. It doesn't work his.
- 1:17:17Stupid plan doesn't work anyway to get her to move?
- 1:17:20And I was like, how dare you? So #1 he lies.
- 1:17:22Vividly. Yeah, he does.
- 1:17:24And #2 I think she knows that he's lying and is trying to
- 1:17:29cover for him as well in front of like her friends or whatever.
- 1:17:32Because she made a bet. She had made a bet that yes,
- 1:17:34yeah, with the girls behind her. So she was like, oh, I told you
- 1:17:38he thought I wasn't real. Right, just so that she can win
- 1:17:41this bet that she made with the girls.
- 1:17:42Yes, yes, yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 1:17:45They're. Lying.
- 1:17:45They're on the same page. They're both lying.
- 1:17:47Yeah, they're lying. Is buying air quotes his lie For
- 1:17:52sure. That was episode 2, right?
- 1:17:56They get that was revealed that yeah, they revealed that pretty
- 1:17:58early on their meeting. Oh, this quick question, did you
- 1:18:02buy? And I guess we see it over time,
- 1:18:05of course, with more flashbacks. But were you buying their
- 1:18:08relationship? Yeah, totally you did.
- 1:18:11Because so we're talking about Tehsan and Toynhei, the mother
- 1:18:15of the child. I totally believe this
- 1:18:17relationship because who is going to?
- 1:18:21The shrimp. No, no, no, no, that was.
- 1:18:24What did you get think about this shrimp that's really made
- 1:18:27me so annoyed. I was like, are you kidding?
- 1:18:29Me okay, so two things. One, the second thing is a
- 1:18:32shrimp thing, so don't know, but the first thing is he's a bad
- 1:18:35boy. He is.
- 1:18:37He's a mysterious, quiet bad boy who driving a motorcycle.
- 1:18:43Motorcycle and he's just a little bit of a sweetheart.
- 1:18:45And he's kind of a sweetheart. Yeah, sweetheart.
- 1:18:47Yeah. Yeah, he takes her to school
- 1:18:49when she's. Running.
- 1:18:50She's running late. She needed a ride.
- 1:18:52Yeah. Does it she?
- 1:18:53Spotted him on a delivery right outside her little dance studio
- 1:18:56where she works part time and she's like, so he drives there
- 1:19:00all the time, frequently, and she she stops him on the street.
- 1:19:04When she misses a taxi, she gets shoved to the ground.
- 1:19:08Another ajma takes the taxi and she's like, I got to get to
- 1:19:11school for I think it was an. Audition.
- 1:19:13Yeah, because she's getting trying to go abroad.
- 1:19:15Trying. To study abroad.
- 1:19:16Yeah. And he takes her.
- 1:19:18And what I thought was like, such a green flag was before
- 1:19:21they take off. She's already running late and
- 1:19:23he's going to take her anyway. He gives her a helmet.
- 1:19:27He does. He takes out a helmet from like
- 1:19:29the side compartment and gives her a helmet.
- 1:19:31And I was like, yes. Yes, I love that scene because I
- 1:19:35also loved her moment there when she was holding on to him and
- 1:19:37she was like I felt his heart and it's like a physical moment
- 1:19:40moment because he's like true. His heart was racing because he
- 1:19:44had a crush on her. Obviously from they had building
- 1:19:47this little. I think this little back and
- 1:19:48forth but then. So they almost get in a crash.
- 1:19:50Crash and then she. And he holds on to.
- 1:19:53Her yes, so I feel like he's his heart is racing and she feels
- 1:19:56that, but then it's also like this realization and like the
- 1:19:59current time of like he has a heart like he's a good guy.
- 1:20:03So it's like this tie between this physical moment of him,
- 1:20:05like his heart racing because he almost gets in a crash, but he's
- 1:20:08but he's protecting her, protecting her.
- 1:20:10He protected her from jump because he gave her a helmet.
- 1:20:13So it's just like, it's a very sweet.
- 1:20:14Compounding. Very sweet.
- 1:20:16So sweet he doesn't ask for the helmet back.
- 1:20:18She has to find him again to give it to him.
- 1:20:20She's. Like why didn't she?
- 1:20:21She's like, why didn't you come after me for the helmet?
- 1:20:23He was like, oh, I forgot. Like he's just like, he's so
- 1:20:26shy. It's really cute.
- 1:20:29It's actually really cute. And then the shrimp thing.
- 1:20:31Shrimp happens, yeah. Because he's got a shellfish
- 1:20:34allergy. And she bites him out.
- 1:20:37She invites a ride because of that ride that he gave.
- 1:20:40Her right So she's like, oh let me thank you, I'll take you out
- 1:20:42to dinner and she orders this. Tray of shrimp.
- 1:20:45Just tray of shrimp, nothing else.
- 1:20:47There's. No bunch on.
- 1:20:49I was like, there's no, I was like, it's just shrimp, just
- 1:20:52shrimp. I was like, girl, where's the
- 1:20:54rest? It's just shrimp.
- 1:20:56But anyway, but they're in Busan, so it's a sea size town.
- 1:20:59I kind of understand whatever. So he starts shoveling shrimp
- 1:21:04into his gullet. Just shoveling, and there's no
- 1:21:07reason for it because he's got an allergy.
- 1:21:09He doesn't tell her that he has an allergy until he starts
- 1:21:12having a reaction. Still doesn't tell her.
- 1:21:14Still doesn't tell her. What he does is he just gets up
- 1:21:17and he's like, I got to go and he leaves.
- 1:21:20Leaves her sitting there, she's like, that was weird, yeah.
- 1:21:22And then the next day she's looking for him and his friend
- 1:21:26that he works with at the little liquor, the little liquor
- 1:21:28delivery place is like, Oh yeah, he's sick at home because he he.
- 1:21:33I don't know what. I've done.
- 1:21:34He ate. Shrimp.
- 1:21:35Shrimp. He has a shellfish allergy.
- 1:21:37Why would he do that? And then she's like, what?
- 1:21:40He has a shellfish allergy. She goes, finds him at his home
- 1:21:43and he's like sick in bed, and she comes in guns blazing
- 1:21:47yelling at him. Why wouldn't you tell me that's
- 1:21:50you have shellfish? And it's such a sweet moment
- 1:21:52because while she's yelling at him and he's like huffing and
- 1:21:55puffing at her because she's yelling at him.
- 1:21:57But then she's like, here, take this, take this porridge,
- 1:22:01porridge. And it's like a sweet one would
- 1:22:03have heard me like I'm here to take care of you because you did
- 1:22:07something that you shouldn't have done.
- 1:22:08So I totally believed their love story.
- 1:22:11I did too. And then, and they're young too.
- 1:22:14They're like. They're so young.
- 1:22:15That's why I also think I like that they highlighted that she
- 1:22:18was a young mom. Yeah, as well.
- 1:22:20Like she wasn't. This wasn't a plan.
- 1:22:22Like her having a baby. This.
- 1:22:24So what is what is it? He's 32 now, like in the 2013
- 1:22:29and then this was eight years. Ago so they were no.
- 1:22:32Longer because the child is 8. So it was before the child.
- 1:22:36Before the child, yeah. So yeah. 10 years, like maybe I
- 1:22:39wouldn't say 10 years, probably like 9 years.
- 1:22:42Yeah, 9. Almost a decade, basically a
- 1:22:44decade. So young 2122 and then I think
- 1:22:48she's younger than him, still in school.
- 1:22:51Not high school, but in college. They were young.
- 1:22:54So they were young. Yeah, she had the baby.
- 1:22:57It also makes that whole relationship with the detective
- 1:23:00also kind of like he's obviously older, yes, than her, way older
- 1:23:05than her. So that also is that kind of
- 1:23:07imbalance that we were talking about.
- 1:23:08This is a young, young prosecutor.
- 1:23:12Yeah. What I found funny in episode 3,
- 1:23:15he's on the run on a motorcycle driving one hand and he's still
- 1:23:18handcuffed, which I was like, I don't know if this is sexy or
- 1:23:21I'm worried. About what's happening, I was so
- 1:23:23worried, but I also was like, give it to him doing his own
- 1:23:26stunts. And Oh my God, stop.
- 1:23:28You think that he was actually doing that?
- 1:23:33I. Driving around one hand.
- 1:23:34Over junky. Yeah, I do.
- 1:23:37Oh. My God.
- 1:23:40And it was a giving stunt. It was giving.
- 1:23:41It was a stunt moment. We got a this shows full of
- 1:23:44stunts. Full of stunts every episode.
- 1:23:48But anyway, so he starts to clock that there's CCTV cameras
- 1:23:51everywhere and they show a scene from The Haunted with Tommy Lee
- 1:23:57Jones. Like you're thinking back to the
- 1:24:00scene in this movie. For those who don't know, The
- 1:24:02Haunted Tommy Lee Jones plays a tracker slash trainer hunting a
- 1:24:06rogue operative, Benicio De Toro.
- 1:24:10Del Toro. What about?
- 1:24:12Oh my gosh, when I tell you I love Benicio del Toro?
- 1:24:15Oh my. So that when they pulled up that
- 1:24:18scene I was like, oh wait, they don't do this in K dramas
- 1:24:21anywhere. They just don't.
- 1:24:22They don't. They don't.
- 1:24:23And they did this throughout. There's other.
- 1:24:25Ones I love that here they did tie it back to his characters.
- 1:24:28No, because he loves. Movies, yeah.
- 1:24:30And so a lot of his movie like a lot of his like stunts that he's
- 1:24:33pulling throughout the chase, the run, being on the run.
- 1:24:36He's like pulling from references on movies that he's
- 1:24:38watched and loved. And I, I really like that.
- 1:24:41I do. I thought that was like that.
- 1:24:42No character plot. Yeah.
- 1:24:43I was like, that's a character notes there.
- 1:24:45There's no character notes. I liked it, the little little.
- 1:24:48Movie. I really enjoyed it every time.
- 1:24:49One time I was like, Oh my God, what are they doing?
- 1:24:52So yeah, in episode 4, he ends up in the countryside and he
- 1:24:56helps this old lady catch her chicken lunch.
- 1:25:01She's trying to buy her chicken. She's.
- 1:25:02Trying to chase this chicken. He's seen her chasing this
- 1:25:04chicken for like an hour. He can't get out of where he's
- 1:25:07hiding on her property. And I thought this was really
- 1:25:10cute but also like really random.
- 1:25:14The first few episodes. It is extremely random what he
- 1:25:18gets into as he's on the run and then the chase up the mountain.
- 1:25:23The assassin sets off fucking explosives.
- 1:25:27For him. In the mountain to distract the
- 1:25:29police. And that makes him think that he
- 1:25:31has someone working with him. Right, right.
- 1:25:33Against him because it's this is an assassin trying to kill him,
- 1:25:36not work with him. He takes a bus.
- 1:25:39This whole thing, it's. Incredible, he changes.
- 1:25:42Outfits and pretends like he's someone a volunteer for the
- 1:25:46police that's scouring the mountain for him and he takes a
- 1:25:49bus to a neighboring town and takes a mother and daughter as
- 1:25:53hostages. The mom is mute and he's kind of
- 1:25:57to install like a motion light or something for them.
- 1:26:01Yeah, they're trying to install some security, some kind of
- 1:26:03security feature and they're. Outside that they were having
- 1:26:06trouble doing because there's no man in the house.
- 1:26:09It's like man's. Work.
- 1:26:09Yeah, Yep. And he does it for them and they
- 1:26:12don't report him right away. When he finally leaves.
- 1:26:14And I was just like, Oh my God, it reminds me of something and I
- 1:26:18can't think of it. What?
- 1:26:20What? I feel like I've seen this
- 1:26:21before. You have.
- 1:26:23You definitely have. And I'm and I actually really
- 1:26:26watching it back, I was like, Oh yeah, I forgot about these
- 1:26:29moments, like these moments on these little.
- 1:26:31Vignettes. Vignettes that he had to like
- 1:26:33the explanations of how he's able to stay on the run so long
- 1:26:37is these moments of like, you know, little randoms running
- 1:26:41into people's homes kind of thing.
- 1:26:43But then also it was supposed to be there, of course, to kind of
- 1:26:45showcase the type of character he really was.
- 1:26:48Because again, like you mentioned earlier, this drama
- 1:26:50relies on the media, like traditional media, like there's
- 1:26:54news reports all the time tracking, Hey, we lost him.
- 1:26:58Hey, you know, the the the fugitive Tayson's on the run and
- 1:27:01he's the police got he got away. See this man, if you see this
- 1:27:05man. So it's like that is being
- 1:27:07showcased throughout the entire drama.
- 1:27:09And So what ends up happening towards the end, of course, is
- 1:27:12that all these little moments that he has with these random
- 1:27:14strangers are highlights that come up at the end the show,
- 1:27:18like, hey, or vouch for him, Like, hey, this guy who's a
- 1:27:20fugitive, who's supposedly A murderer, He did all these great
- 1:27:23things for me. He delivers a baby.
- 1:27:25You know, he does all these lovely things, like, what do you
- 1:27:28mean he's a murderer? So I did like that, you know,
- 1:27:31they were able to use that. We're going to.
- 1:27:33Have to talk about that later. I don't.
- 1:27:34Everybody used those moments at the end, they had to kind of
- 1:27:37vouch for who he really was as a person and not some cold hearted
- 1:27:42killer. He changes his hair and he
- 1:27:45thinks of the movie The Long Kiss Goodnight with Geena Davis.
- 1:27:51In the mirror. In the mirror.
- 1:27:52Did you see the mirror? I was like, this is hilarious.
- 1:27:55Oh. My God, he's like I'm in a
- 1:27:56movie. Here's 1 scene that I thought
- 1:27:58was really good. And they don't end up like
- 1:28:00getting this smart later on, I guess, Is that in Episode 4, the
- 1:28:04prosecutor calls the congresswoman, Congresswoman
- 1:28:08Joe, who's like the other big bad of the show, her assistant
- 1:28:11comes in and he's like, hey, you have this prosecutor on the
- 1:28:14phone right now. And she's in the middle of an
- 1:28:16interview with a reporter. And she's like, well, take a
- 1:28:19message because I'm busy right now.
- 1:28:21And then the reporter gets a call on his phone literally
- 1:28:24seconds later. And it's the prosecutor saying,
- 1:28:26hand the phone over to the congresswoman.
- 1:28:28And I was like, oh, my God, this lady has balls.
- 1:28:30This lady has balls. And I thought it was so smart
- 1:28:32and surprising, but they don't really.
- 1:28:35They don't use that throughout. Yeah, yeah, I completely agree.
- 1:28:40But why do you think that is? Like why do you think they did?
- 1:28:42Because they just started getting more head on with their
- 1:28:45approach, their tactics weren't as sneaky and.
- 1:28:49So it just got bold. It just got bold.
- 1:28:51Right. It just got bold.
- 1:28:53The prosecutor at some point ends up in front.
- 1:28:56Like she literally rings a doorbell and goes to the
- 1:28:59congresswoman's house. Absolutely.
- 1:29:01She's she's like, I don't care. Anymore and for what?
- 1:29:03Like for what? To do what?
- 1:29:05Just to say I'm going to get you.
- 1:29:06That's what I'm saying. It's very.
- 1:29:08Scooby-doo. In that way.
- 1:29:11And I do feel like that was one of my issues with the Jake Young
- 1:29:14character in general. I feel like she was all talk at
- 1:29:18some point. So it was like, you're not,
- 1:29:19you're not pulling up any results, my love.
- 1:29:21Like you, you're on the run. You're, you're, you're supposed
- 1:29:24to be chasing these people for years.
- 1:29:27Like she's been chasing these folks since she was a young
- 1:29:29girl. Basically the reason why she
- 1:29:31became a prosecutor was to bring down these two people.
- 1:29:34And it's like you're, where's the results of all that chasing?
- 1:29:37And I I don't. What do you mean friend?
- 1:29:39You've been investigating for for years and all you got for
- 1:29:43it. And it takes this man on the run
- 1:29:46to actually kind of start to bring you some kind of like
- 1:29:49getting you close to some kind of resolution with these these
- 1:29:52folks. I don't know.
- 1:29:52I just felt like she was all talk a lot of times.
- 1:29:54So like you said, there were moments where she was just
- 1:29:56showing up and she's like, give me the phone.
- 1:29:57Let. Me.
- 1:29:58Talk to the face. But then it was like you're not
- 1:30:00doing anything. How is this helping?
- 1:30:03You're showing your. Hand me.
- 1:30:04You're showing your hand. Yeah.
- 1:30:05Oh my gosh. She showed her hand so many
- 1:30:07times all throughout that. Same for the cops, same for song
- 1:30:10with the fiance guy. Like why are you being stupid?
- 1:30:13You know what? I was going to say that I was
- 1:30:15going to say this and I think I wanted, I don't know where I put
- 1:30:17it in my notes, but I was like, at some point I was like,
- 1:30:21they're just not that good at their jobs.
- 1:30:24Exactly. Incompetent.
- 1:30:25They're incompetent. And prosecutors like I was like
- 1:30:28they aren't just that you. It's taking you relying on this
- 1:30:31fugitive to be the thing that kind of brings you how you're
- 1:30:36going to end up catching people. I don't.
- 1:30:37I don't think that makes sense. If you were good at your job,
- 1:30:39you could have gotten. Here, the fugitive is the
- 1:30:41linchpin. Like you're not a good
- 1:30:43investigator. You're not.
- 1:30:45Yeah. So I was like, they're not good.
- 1:30:47And I think that was getting frustrating for me as well.
- 1:30:50I was like, this is not. This is kind of frustrating.
- 1:30:52Because you guys suck. And maybe that's I've heard a
- 1:30:54lot of Korean true crime episodes shout out Mimi Musiko
- 1:30:58and 99% of the time the cops botched the investigation.
- 1:31:02They botch it. They're not very, and this is
- 1:31:04true. Crime, mind you.
- 1:31:05So this is real stuff. So I'm like, oh, maybe.
- 1:31:08It's just a thing. Yeah, maybe, maybe.
- 1:31:11I feel like they also don't put if you think about how they're
- 1:31:14portray, how they always portray cops in K dramas, it's like they
- 1:31:19barely carry guns and when they do it's like you know they
- 1:31:21barely carry guns. The first they're like, isn't
- 1:31:24it? They always a table is a blank.
- 1:31:26Blank and then they have real. Bullets in the gun and I'm like.
- 1:31:29So what? And then also like the fact that
- 1:31:31they kind of always just sit like they're always in their
- 1:31:34office. I mean, they're always at this
- 1:31:35precinct. Like they're never really on the
- 1:31:37ground. You know, they're always, they
- 1:31:38do a lot of work just sitting around the computer.
- 1:31:41I feel like I don't portray them in a very good light.
- 1:31:43No, they I would say, I would say so I'm like, this was
- 1:31:46another case of that. Like, you got your police scene.
- 1:31:49I'm a little incompetent. You're goofy.
- 1:31:51You're goofy. Yeah, you're goofy.
- 1:31:53And you're too busy. You know, shirtless.
- 1:31:54I have shirtless. Well, so the next episode,
- 1:31:58episode 5, there is a straight up shower scene and it's not
- 1:32:02with Edenge, it's with. Cops so move.
- 1:32:07And. I just haven't my wishes all
- 1:32:09beaded. All caps beefy.
- 1:32:11Beefy beef, beef beef beef. Gotta love a good beefcake
- 1:32:17because it was definitely a good beefcake moment.
- 1:32:19So let's talk about this character for one second.
- 1:32:21Is that he starts to think put the pieces together and say OK,
- 1:32:26I think this guy is related to Solenhead.
- 1:32:30Yes. And is he the mysterious donor?
- 1:32:34Yes. Which the answer is yes.
- 1:32:37So he makes connections early and then he starts to judge
- 1:32:41sewing. Hey, so.
- 1:32:42Hard. He does.
- 1:32:44He's like, how could she have been with?
- 1:32:47This with this person. Disgusting.
- 1:32:48This type of person, yeah. Murderer.
- 1:32:51How? Could.
- 1:32:53She serial assault her person. Let's keep going on about what
- 1:32:57you just mentioned as far as like him making that connection.
- 1:33:00He he starts to say like basically she sucks because he
- 1:33:03sucks, he sucks. But also that connection that he
- 1:33:06makes early on about like, oh, she's related to him, she she's
- 1:33:09the ex of blah blah. But he also it's like, oh, is
- 1:33:13he's the donor and then meets up with his friend who is the
- 1:33:16doctor. She's tell doesn't tell him
- 1:33:18anything. And so he's like, OK, it must
- 1:33:20not be him. And he immediately is like, oh,
- 1:33:22yeah, that's not the donor. And he goes to more episodes, I
- 1:33:25think, not knowing that's the donor, even though he makes the
- 1:33:29other connection pretty easily. So I felt again, it's like
- 1:33:32you're not doing your job as a detective.
- 1:33:34Like, yeah, the doctor stop says it.
- 1:33:36OK, you take it at face value and just move on.
- 1:33:39I agree. I was like, he was so dude, I'm
- 1:33:42like, get it together. Like why can't you make these
- 1:33:47connections a lot quicker and move?
- 1:33:50Because he relied on Jake Young to really tell him.
- 1:33:54Like she's the one who ends up really kind of like he has like,
- 1:33:56how did you know? Why didn't you tell me?
- 1:33:58It's like, why didn't you know you made the connection that
- 1:34:01they were connected before she did so you had the opportunity
- 1:34:05to make that connection. I don't know that, just
- 1:34:07incompetence all around. You mentioned he delivers a baby
- 1:34:13while on the run. Let's talk about this.
- 1:34:16This is when I was like, wow, it could only be a cave drama.
- 1:34:20It could only be. He he's again in the mountains
- 1:34:23he comes across. He's on the run, guys.
- 1:34:26He comes. Across this fruit tree farm in
- 1:34:29the pitch darkness, it's raining and it's night time and he's
- 1:34:32like Oh my God, I found something to eat, 'cause he's
- 1:34:34starving, he starts biting into some fruit and randomly there's
- 1:34:38a pregnant lady in labor next to him.
- 1:34:41Next to him, Yeah. I mean, where?
- 1:34:42How she where did she go from? I have no idea.
- 1:34:45How did she be there? Where was it?
- 1:34:46How? Long was she there?
- 1:34:47Yeah, there was no car. There was no like she fell out
- 1:34:49of something like it was like she was.
- 1:34:51Did she? Take a tumble like what
- 1:34:53happened? Walking with with a basket of
- 1:34:55with of apples. And then how do you not see her?
- 1:34:58Yeah, it was weird and random. Yes, she's in the dark and he
- 1:35:01thinks she's a ghost. Yeah, because it's just like her
- 1:35:03swelling in the. Because.
- 1:35:05What he sees is sewing. Hey.
- 1:35:08Oh, I wailing because she's not gonna lieber.
- 1:35:10I kind of like that. Which I kind of like that.
- 1:35:12And that's why he's like, are you a ghost?
- 1:35:13Because he's he doesn't know what he's saying.
- 1:35:15He doesn't. Is he seeing his ex trying to
- 1:35:17give birth next to him? Which again, the whole situation
- 1:35:20is so strange. It's weird, guys.
- 1:35:22We get it. It's no, it's weird.
- 1:35:23But it it was this moment again to kind of vouch for his actual
- 1:35:27real personality. He really was.
- 1:35:29He is of helping this woman to her home.
- 1:35:32Lady give birth in her home. The power is out because of the
- 1:35:35storm that's going on. They evidently she has no cell
- 1:35:38phone. No cell phone.
- 1:35:39Rare time and they're in the countryside and he delivers a
- 1:35:42baby boy. And he has a moment when she's,
- 1:35:46when she's pushing, he sees flashes of in hay of kind of
- 1:35:49what he imagines she went through and she was giving
- 1:35:52birth. And so he has a kind of full
- 1:35:56moment that he gets to experience childbirth through
- 1:35:59this woman that he didn't get to experience with his own
- 1:36:02daughter. So.
- 1:36:03It's actually so sweet. It's the end of the day.
- 1:36:04I was like you. Know he's holding the baby,
- 1:36:07Yeah. And he's holding and he's
- 1:36:08looking at that baby. He's like, it's a baby boy.
- 1:36:10And he just looks so happy to hold that baby after it's
- 1:36:14delivered. And I just thought it was the
- 1:36:15sweetest thing ever. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:36:17It is he has this new appreciation and deep guilt over
- 1:36:21how his little girl was brought into the world and how his ex
- 1:36:24did it all alone. And it's just a glimpse into
- 1:36:27what he's like. I've never.
- 1:36:29Delivered a baby. I don't know what that is, Yeah.
- 1:36:32And he just kind of like. Locks in, he does lock it and
- 1:36:34then like even afterwards, and I love that again, for each of
- 1:36:38these little vignette moments, he ends up cooking her seaweed
- 1:36:42soup afterwards because he's like, I know that's what you're
- 1:36:43supposed to do. And he feels bad about the fact
- 1:36:46that he didn't get to do that for Inhe when she gave birth,
- 1:36:49you know, I was like, so he's like does this for this woman.
- 1:36:52He's like, she's a stand in for what he, you know, for Inhe,
- 1:36:55what he didn't get to do for her.
- 1:36:56And he has he gets to have that moment.
- 1:36:58So it was actually really sweet. But he also is building these
- 1:37:01people who could vouch for him now, because now this woman is
- 1:37:03like on the news, like he delivered my baby.
- 1:37:06Yeah, he, he made me seaweed soup.
- 1:37:08He was the sweetest guy you know, so.
- 1:37:11He not only made her seaweed soup, he hangs up the kung
- 1:37:14chill. Oh yes, the kunjol, which I had
- 1:37:17no clue what this was. I've been watching K dramas for
- 1:37:20so long I'm still learning stuff.
- 1:37:22This was so cute. It was beautiful to see him do.
- 1:37:25In Korean tradition, hanging dried red Peppers, Chili Peppers
- 1:37:28after birth is a central element of a custom known as kunjol, or
- 1:37:32taboo rope. This practice is used to
- 1:37:35announce the birth of a baby boy and protect him from evil
- 1:37:37spirits. And he does that for the lady.
- 1:37:39And I'm like, Oh my God. That's who he is.
- 1:37:41Yeah, that's who he is. So I really like that at the end
- 1:37:45of episode 5 he gets shot by the cop, the fiance.
- 1:37:48But yeah, he shoots the man that he does not know at the time is
- 1:37:52the donor, but he suspected. He suspected it, but he didn't
- 1:37:55follow through because he's a bad detective, you know, So he
- 1:37:58didn't even try. He didn't even try to make the
- 1:38:00connection. But yeah, he literally shoots
- 1:38:03this man. And what did we say?
- 1:38:05What did we learn in class from the very first episodes?
- 1:38:08That he has to remain clean and safe during the two weeks he is
- 1:38:14a good doughnut and when he gets a whole gunshot wound on his
- 1:38:18back. Yay.
- 1:38:20Mind you the stress the other assassin, the Terminator guy, is
- 1:38:23basically chasing him concurrently to the police.
- 1:38:27I mean, just so frustrating. Yeah, so frustrating.
- 1:38:30He has two people out for him at the same time.
- 1:38:33This is when he falls into the water, goes on the raft, all
- 1:38:36that. You know, this was that scene.
- 1:38:37And then finds this man who's an ex gangster that he was told to
- 1:38:43murder. And he all those years ago too,
- 1:38:45he did not. Do And he did not do it.
- 1:38:47So he left this guy alive. And the guy was basically like,
- 1:38:49I saved you to ask you this question.
- 1:38:50Why the hell did you leave me alive?
- 1:38:52Leave me alive. I'm still reeling from the fact
- 1:38:55that there's a connection here. Why is there a connection?
- 1:38:58Right. But I did like that it was this
- 1:39:03moment too, of him being like, I say, you saved my life back
- 1:39:06then. This is me saving your life
- 1:39:08because he ends up treating him for that gunshot wound.
- 1:39:10And that is, of course, enabling.
- 1:39:13Yeah, that saves him and enable him to keep moving and keep
- 1:39:15going towards this next. You know, the, I don't know, we
- 1:39:17were like day, we're on day 7 at this point.
- 1:39:19I don't know. We're half.
- 1:39:20We're moving through the weeks. We're moving through the two
- 1:39:22weeks there. But it was just like, he has a
- 1:39:24long time to go, so he needed that treatment.
- 1:39:27And so it was this moment of like, this man saved me.
- 1:39:29But yeah, this man comes back again.
- 1:39:32He does, and he helps him later on.
- 1:39:33Yes he does. He keeps the.
- 1:39:35Father of the Terminator Assassin and.
- 1:39:39Which I which I thought was interesting because I think in
- 1:39:41the the big guy, the other the big bad guy, he tells says
- 1:39:46that's his son, right? Like he pretends and.
- 1:39:48Claims. The big bad gangster?
- 1:39:51Yeah, he says. That's his son.
- 1:39:52The assassin calls him Father. Yes.
- 1:39:56And I have a note in here too saying what the hell is what
- 1:39:58What? What?
- 1:39:59Yeah, but I was like, in the beginning, I feel like he was
- 1:40:00like treating him like that was his son.
- 1:40:03Right. But then they were very cold
- 1:40:05toward him. So.
- 1:40:06Mean treating him like an employee.
- 1:40:08So it was like, are that is that his son?
- 1:40:10OK, I don't know. So then to have that connection
- 1:40:14revealed at the end, like This is why he was out for him, you
- 1:40:16know, and then to be using this man's son to do all this
- 1:40:19horrible dirty work also made sense, you know, So it made more
- 1:40:23sense that it wasn't his son, is what I'm trying to say.
- 1:40:26It made more sense that it wasn't the big bad guy's son.
- 1:40:29What I found really cute was at the end of episode 6, he's on
- 1:40:32the phone with his ex Inhei, the mother of his child, and she has
- 1:40:37been calling him like Tehsanshi, like a very more formal way of
- 1:40:41saying him his name. And this is the first time in
- 1:40:44this episode she says SU Jin Na. Papa.
- 1:40:47Don't die. Which is he freaks.
- 1:40:50Out SU Jin's dad don't die. And he's looking at her at this
- 1:40:55time because she can see her, but she can't see him.
- 1:40:58And he's on the phone with her. And when she says that to him,
- 1:41:00he immediately starts to cry, holding the phone to him, but
- 1:41:05he's trying not to, like, reveal himself.
- 1:41:07And it was like, oh, he just wants to be that girl's dad now,
- 1:41:11you know? And I really.
- 1:41:13He wants to be a good dad. He wants to be a good dad.
- 1:41:14And so you're, again, you're just like rooting for him.
- 1:41:16You're like, come on, you got to make.
- 1:41:18And you can tell she's already forgiven him and she.
- 1:41:20Has she's like, it's over. This man is, is going to save my
- 1:41:24baby's life. Like let's get him back, guys.
- 1:41:26Let's let's bring him back in. Episode 7 I thought was good
- 1:41:30because this is when it starts ushering into a different era of
- 1:41:33the drama and TS on his face to face with this gangster Munil
- 1:41:37Sulk who has literally thrown him under the bus time and time
- 1:41:41again framed him for basically this is the third time he's
- 1:41:44framed. Third time.
- 1:41:45Third time. And they broke him out of police
- 1:41:48custody, mind you, in this episode in like a past five type
- 1:41:51of deal where like, there's a dump truck that opens up the
- 1:41:54side. Yeah, multiple cars that are
- 1:41:57crashing in. There's tear gas involved, guns.
- 1:42:01It's this whole freaking thing. I'm like, oh, my God.
- 1:42:04So they bust him out and they're in an old lumber factory, and
- 1:42:07he's face to face with the head gangster again.
- 1:42:09Yeah. He says, why are you doing this
- 1:42:10to me? Because at this point, he has
- 1:42:12not been fighting back. He's just been evading capture.
- 1:42:15Which has been good. The gangster, it gives this
- 1:42:19crazy answer where he's just like, yeah, you're a fall guy,
- 1:42:22you understand, you've done it twice already and you didn't put
- 1:42:25up a fight either time. So why wouldn't I do it?
- 1:42:27Why wouldn't I use you again? Why wouldn't I use you again?
- 1:42:29And if I were you, I would have killed me by now.
- 1:42:32You're soft, you have no background, you've and then
- 1:42:35you've been living this slummy life.
- 1:42:37So you're easy target. So you're an easy target.
- 1:42:39You have nothing to live for anyway.
- 1:42:41Why wouldn't I do this? And it lights a fire under
- 1:42:44Tayson's ass and he gets out of she starts playing the game
- 1:42:47finally. Finally, that's when we get that
- 1:42:50twist. And I think it was a long time
- 1:42:52coming because it's true. And he also now obviously has a
- 1:42:55more reasons to live, you know, more than to die.
- 1:42:58Purpose. Yeah, yeah, more reason than to
- 1:43:00die. But he has a purpose now, you
- 1:43:02know, before for his, for this man to call it out like you had
- 1:43:04no reason. You were, you were.
- 1:43:06You're slum. You're a loser.
- 1:43:08You're a loser. You have nothing to live for.
- 1:43:09Like, of course you're easy target, but he's like, no, I'm
- 1:43:12not now I'm not. I have a whole daughter.
- 1:43:14I got to I got to say like, who are you kidding me?
- 1:43:17So we were like, finally he's locking in full force and he
- 1:43:21starts to play the game as in I can't just keep running and
- 1:43:24hiding for the rest of these two weeks.
- 1:43:26They're too close. They're on my heels.
- 1:43:28I'm literally getting captured by them at this point, getting
- 1:43:31shot at multiple times. Now I have to try to get back at
- 1:43:34them and try to get them before they get me, so that's where
- 1:43:37that switches. He so he starts bluffing and in
- 1:43:40the one of the first scenes that we see him in in episode 1, he's
- 1:43:43playing poker and he's bluffing his ass off and they're like,
- 1:43:46what did you have? Cuz he's end up folding this
- 1:43:48good hand and he's he's like, Oh no, whatever.
- 1:43:51And he's look at his hand and they're like, you were bluffing
- 1:43:53the whole. Time.
- 1:43:54So you know, he can lie. He can lie.
- 1:43:57He's good. I mean, he lied to her when we
- 1:43:58said when they first met and made her believe that.
- 1:44:01Well, she believed. Didn't believe.
- 1:44:04Yeah, yeah, He's good at. He's good at the game.
- 1:44:07Yeah, he's good at the game. But he starts using his poker
- 1:44:10skills and he escapes and he rescues the prosecutor, who was
- 1:44:14also like, at death's door. They were going to shoot her
- 1:44:15ass. And he was like lying through
- 1:44:18his teeth trying to get her out. And he busts her out, steal the
- 1:44:21car, the whole thing. This this episode also has he
- 1:44:25thinks of a scene in the movie Breakdown with Kurt Russell,
- 1:44:31where Kurt Russell plays a regular guy whose wife gets
- 1:44:34kidnapped after an an encounter with a trucker.
- 1:44:37And he basically hides underneath an 18 Wheeler truck.
- 1:44:41And that's the moment that he remembers.
- 1:44:43And he's like, oh, I can do that.
- 1:44:45And. I thought that was so funny how
- 1:44:46he's like thinking of these moments from these movies that
- 1:44:49he wants to like try out. But then it also is like, Oh, I
- 1:44:52can't physically do that because I got shot in my shoulder.
- 1:44:54So they get let me just move on to another scene in my head.
- 1:44:57But I think that was also the drama, of course, trying to
- 1:45:00explain away why he's he's actually so good, good at what
- 1:45:05he's doing of being on the run. They had to explain it somehow
- 1:45:08because you're like, this guy is all of a sudden like kicking
- 1:45:10tail. He's like, you know, like you
- 1:45:12say, parkouring across the buildings, like where is he
- 1:45:15getting all this from? And it's like, oh, movies, of
- 1:45:18course you got to. Forget an active imagination and
- 1:45:22he's fit. One thing that I thought was,
- 1:45:25oh, this would probably not happen today or would happen
- 1:45:27differently is at the end of episode 8, Congresswoman Toe
- 1:45:32brings highway CCTV footage of the prosecutor in the car with
- 1:45:36PS on to like incriminate the prosecutor because why is she in
- 1:45:40the car with with the fugitive, but the footage is edited.
- 1:45:46Yes, it's doctored. And I was like, oh, this would
- 1:45:50be a whole thing today. Like we haven't encountered this
- 1:45:52yet, but this would be today. An AI.
- 1:45:56AIA footage, but deepfakes. Deepfakes.
- 1:45:59Yes, all that stuff. Would be if they redid this.
- 1:46:02Today, they haven't done that yet.
- 1:46:04Really, they haven't. And I'm like, they're good, but
- 1:46:06it's and no, it's. Not going to happen.
- 1:46:08It's going to have to. Every soon that this is going to
- 1:46:10end up in the plots. It has the stories, yeah.
- 1:46:13Because even that was, for me, shocking.
- 1:46:15I was like, oh, they know how to doctor CC, right?
- 1:46:17It's like removed the the she had a tape across.
- 1:46:21From her mouth and removed that so it looked like she was having
- 1:46:24a normal conversation with the fugitive in the car.
- 1:46:26But I was not. That was so I was like oh this
- 1:46:29seems like advance for. But it seems advanced.
- 1:46:33Exactly. I like that word.
- 1:46:34That's a great word. Episode 9, he goes back to the
- 1:46:38original apartment to get clothes, get money, because of
- 1:46:41course there's a pillowcase full of money.
- 1:46:43Of course, the friend that got murdered.
- 1:46:45Mons Hulk. Oh, I forgot about.
- 1:46:47Monso devastating when the guy died I was like oh shit like.
- 1:46:50This. Yeah, this is getting serious.
- 1:46:51People are getting serious. So he ends up back there.
- 1:46:54He's also been framed for that murder, of course.
- 1:46:56So now he's a double, double homicide double, he said.
- 1:46:59He says he he sets up a memorial for him.
- 1:47:03He. Does with his favorite ham.
- 1:47:04And this little soldier, did he put a drink out for him?
- 1:47:06Yeah, yeah. And he says he loved Mansok and
- 1:47:10the hallucination of his daughter says you love him.
- 1:47:14Do you think love dies? As in because he said past
- 1:47:17basically past tense. I loved loved.
- 1:47:20And she says no, the concept of love never dying.
- 1:47:22Dies is. I was like, that's a lot.
- 1:47:26But it also is this little girl who I said is an actual mock,
- 1:47:29like she is such a but. That's his, his hallucination of
- 1:47:33her. It's his hallucination, his
- 1:47:34vision of her. Yes.
- 1:47:36And for her to say something so profound, I was like, damn, this
- 1:47:39is. I'm going to I'm not going to
- 1:47:41talk about this in detail here because I know we're wrapping
- 1:47:43this up, but I have, as I said, like I mentioned earlier, the
- 1:47:46biblical references and the way that this writer was pulling
- 1:47:50from those moments. I really was getting a kick out
- 1:47:52of this time around. I did not catch them at all the
- 1:47:54first time I watched this, but I could see a lot of that there.
- 1:47:57And I feel like that's why the SU Jin the little girl
- 1:48:00character, she was giving this kind of like holier than thou,
- 1:48:05you know, almost Jesus S character she.
- 1:48:09Really like a little sacrificial.
- 1:48:10She was, she was. So we'll, that's not what we're
- 1:48:14doing today, but I'm just going to say I saw the writer, I saw
- 1:48:17her, I saw you, I saw you. We can skip a lot of stuff
- 1:48:22because it's like this. Starts rinsing and repeating at
- 1:48:24this point. The camera, the Deca, the
- 1:48:28digital camera, that's the Mac Guffin of the whole show.
- 1:48:32He ends up finally getting it in episode 10, and then it promptly
- 1:48:35gets stolen from him. By our our assassin.
- 1:48:39My I started laughing in episode 11 though when he perfectly drew
- 1:48:42the assassin. I thought that was perfect.
- 1:48:45I was like, of course he knows how to draw.
- 1:48:46Too. I was like, what?
- 1:48:48She was like this. She even makes a comment.
- 1:48:49This is a hard job. She's like, this is a really
- 1:48:51good, really good job. I'm like, why aren't she even
- 1:48:54saying that? Like, you don't even need to say
- 1:48:55that. Yes, I thought that was so
- 1:48:57silly. It was a perfect portrait of the
- 1:48:59assassin. I lost it.
- 1:49:00I thought, oh, oh, let's talk really quick about when the
- 1:49:06cops. Hong Wu becomes the mole.
- 1:49:09Oh, I couldn't. I like I said, he's one of the
- 1:49:14worst characters in this drama, obviously, because why would he?
- 1:49:18Why would he be so stupid? Why would he be so stupid?
- 1:49:21Yeah, and. That's what I mean by like, he
- 1:49:23was just like, I don't know what he was fighting for.
- 1:49:26I think at some point, because I thought the whole reason was to,
- 1:49:29I mean, to him, his justification is of course, he's
- 1:49:32trying to now help him make it to the two weeks so he can make
- 1:49:36it to the surgery, right? But like in the process, it's
- 1:49:39like you're hurting him, you're hurting the case, you're hurting
- 1:49:42him getting to that two weeks. This man wants him dead, you
- 1:49:46know. That and he's trying to, he's
- 1:49:47busting into Muni Slope, the gangsters office.
- 1:49:53Like to do. What he initially, I think the
- 1:49:56second time he does it, he has a a bug on him like he is
- 1:50:01recording the conversation and wound is like is like, do you
- 1:50:04really think that you can record me in this space on my turf?
- 1:50:08And I don't know. That yeah, Yeah.
- 1:50:09And that I wouldn't know. And the cop is literally, he has
- 1:50:13a moment and this is to us, the the audience, he's like, damn
- 1:50:17it. Right.
- 1:50:19He's like. Drat.
- 1:50:21They got me and I'm like dude, go home.
- 1:50:24You have no. Business doing anything, you're
- 1:50:27not helping anything. No, get out of there.
- 1:50:30Yeah, a lot of those moments happen.
- 1:50:32I'm sorry. With him and the executor, they
- 1:50:34do that very often. It's like you're busting into
- 1:50:36those, these bad billing, these bad guys, they're in their home
- 1:50:40turf being like, I'm gonna get you sucka.
- 1:50:43And it's like. Bitch.
- 1:50:45What? You're in my house.
- 1:50:47Literally, literally, I hated it.
- 1:50:50I hated it. I can't.
- 1:50:51I can't. One other thing that I couldn't
- 1:50:53deal with was that they a lot of this stuff happens with CCTV,
- 1:50:58with footage, yes, footage. And what they do is they're able
- 1:51:02to upscale all of this really choppy, blurry, low resolution
- 1:51:08footage and listen, I was there, right?
- 1:51:12I was living in 2013. No, like that was not.
- 1:51:18Possible. Yeah.
- 1:51:20They're like, it's almost as if you filmed this with a actual
- 1:51:22television camera. Literally you shoot movies, why
- 1:51:25is suddenly they zoom in to look at license plates, to look at
- 1:51:28people's faces, all of a sudden they're it's in 4K.
- 1:51:31It's an actual 4K like. There weren't that many pixels
- 1:51:35back then. At all.
- 1:51:36Sorry. Not for CCTV, not for even cell
- 1:51:40phones. I know cell.
- 1:51:41Phone footage is like, come on, even the camera.
- 1:51:44I think I had just got an iPhone.
- 1:51:46Exactly. Like even the digital camera
- 1:51:48that they were going on and on about, like, was that footage
- 1:51:51really that clear? Like, was it really that clear
- 1:51:54back then? I don't know.
- 1:51:55No, it was. It was troubling.
- 1:51:57It was, it was. You can tell when it's like this
- 1:52:00is some TV magic, obviously. Yes, the mom gets kidnapped, the
- 1:52:06baby almost gets kidnapped. She was waiting for all of.
- 1:52:08Us but that's a smart girlie, she said.
- 1:52:11Wait a minute, my dad told me to wait for my mom to come to see
- 1:52:15me then she's. Like when she did the shoe.
- 1:52:16Trick shoe drop. She did this book, she drop her
- 1:52:19crock and I was like, damn, yeah, she's on to him.
- 1:52:21She's got his ass. She's like, I'm not about to let
- 1:52:24this man wheel me out of here. No way, Jose, No way.
- 1:52:28And she's very, I was just like, Oh my God.
- 1:52:29But she's she's so little and like dating.
- 1:52:31She's so small, so. Small.
- 1:52:34So anyway, they both make it out OK.
- 1:52:37I like this moment in episode 14 where the mom tells Solene tells
- 1:52:44Tesson, let's forget about the past eight years that you
- 1:52:47weren't by her side because you're giving her your bone
- 1:52:50marrow in two days. Like let's wash it all.
- 1:52:53Wash it to wash. And she says I want to forgive
- 1:52:57you. That way you'll forgive
- 1:52:58yourself. Exactly.
- 1:53:01Which I really appreciate it. I really appreciate that and I
- 1:53:03just think the final episodes it.
- 1:53:06Wraps up ever. It does and the the moments they
- 1:53:10give him and his daughter were so important to me too.
- 1:53:13Like, I just love seeing like, their little moments and their
- 1:53:16little she. Had a little bucket list she
- 1:53:18situation that she wanted to do with her dad I.
- 1:53:21Love. Her like him, carrying her on
- 1:53:23her shoulders, playing soccer with him and camping out all the
- 1:53:27things. He does it all in one day with
- 1:53:28her. He does.
- 1:53:29He has to because he ends up telling he's going to be
- 1:53:32leaving. So there's that.
- 1:53:34What did you think of that? What's your interpretation of
- 1:53:36this ending? Even after the second time, like
- 1:53:39I genuinely I'm still not convinced that he would leave
- 1:53:42her behind. I'm also not convinced that inhe
- 1:53:47would let him leave them behind. So I don't know.
- 1:53:52And but I also was trying to figure out what was like.
- 1:53:54Why did he feel like he needed to be a better, become a better
- 1:53:58person? Well, yeah.
- 1:53:59He's still a deadbeat dad. He is but he.
- 1:54:01He is, but he has the motivation now to do better.
- 1:54:07I understand what you're saying. You're kind of like, OK, he
- 1:54:10knows what he has to. Do knows what he has to do.
- 1:54:13We'll definitely do it. He should just got a heart of.
- 1:54:15Gold. He can do it.
- 1:54:17Reform gangster Reform band He. Can do it, He can.
- 1:54:20I believe in him. That's what I feel I see about
- 1:54:22the end. I was kind.
- 1:54:23Of more, I was more on his side, but I was like, yeah, get your
- 1:54:25shit together. I knew you would be, but I'm
- 1:54:28like I. You know he doesn't have a full
- 1:54:30time even. He doesn't, but I will say I
- 1:54:33appreciated that about his character, though.
- 1:54:34That's even more reason why I liked him, because he even was
- 1:54:37like, you know what? I got to get myself together,
- 1:54:40let me go. He has to like set.
- 1:54:41Up a new life. But I also thought to your
- 1:54:44point, he could just set up a new life with his family.
- 1:54:48With them, yes. Well, are we going to say what
- 1:54:51happened with with her and her detectives?
- 1:54:53So they I think it was a breakup.
- 1:54:56It was a breakup. That was that's how I took it,
- 1:54:59but it wasn't. It wasn't and I thought it was
- 1:55:01interesting because they kind of tell it backwards, like they
- 1:55:05show her basically claiming Tay song like hey, be with us.
- 1:55:10And we're like, wait, what about your your fiance guy?
- 1:55:12What about the guy? And then they kind of go back in
- 1:55:14time and show us like they had a conversation where she's
- 1:55:18basically kind of like, you know what, I was Luke warm on you
- 1:55:21anyway. So, you know, so actually, let's
- 1:55:26just wrap this up. And I thought that was
- 1:55:28interesting that they gave them this little break up moment only
- 1:55:32for her still not to be with takes on at the end.
- 1:55:34Yeah, I, you know what? Yeah, because she got, she got
- 1:55:40closure, basically. She did both of them.
- 1:55:43With both of them. But what about Sue Jin though?
- 1:55:46No, but now the little girl, like, yes, she didn't do
- 1:55:48nothing. She didn't do anything, why
- 1:55:50can't? She no, she lost both dads.
- 1:55:51You. Can't have either one of.
- 1:55:53Them. Yeah.
- 1:55:53Why? She's back to being a single
- 1:55:55mom. You know, she works 22 jobs.
- 1:55:58I mean, and she thinking about in hay as well, like she was
- 1:56:01what was she was a manager at like a food spot.
- 1:56:04Like she also didn't have tons going on as far as like being a
- 1:56:09good financial and you know, she.
- 1:56:10Didn't own the place. She didn't.
- 1:56:11She was a manager. She was just a manager.
- 1:56:14Yeah, like she wasn't. It wasn't like she owned this
- 1:56:16franchise location. No, no, she was being supported
- 1:56:19by, you know, her fiance. You see what I mean?
- 1:56:23And I was like, there's some, there was something.
- 1:56:25There. Where's the medical bills?
- 1:56:27Where's the bill obviously have. I don't know, girl.
- 1:56:31I don't know. Maybe that's one gift from the
- 1:56:34Munilsok gangster character, because he came in and was like
- 1:56:38a secret donor to. The That's true for the
- 1:56:41foundation. Yeah.
- 1:56:42Yeah. I was like, he's.
- 1:56:43So. I mean, of course they would
- 1:56:45have a bad guy do something like that.
- 1:56:47It was like what? No.
- 1:56:49I thought it was funny. Are they playing with the soccer
- 1:56:50ball that the gangster spot? Left that he he left her.
- 1:56:57I hope not I. Hope not me too.
- 1:56:59Who knows? All right, we have.
- 1:57:01I've come to the end of my notes.
- 1:57:02There's a lot of like plotty stuff that we can go over, but
- 1:57:05really it's just that's it. We, we're not.
- 1:57:08I think we hit, we hit what we need.
- 1:57:10Your experience of it. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:57:12Thank you so much for going on this two week journey with me.
- 1:57:16No, but all things have to end. Yes.

- 1:58:02I think I can be. We all can, yeah.
- 1:58:05But. It's fun to have a sounding
- 1:58:07board. It does.
- 1:58:08It's it's perfect. It's what it feels like a
- 1:58:10sounding board of like, hey, actually that that like you said
- 1:58:13about the music, I'm a little hurt still.
- 1:58:15And you were a huge fan of the OST, but or well, not with OST,
- 1:58:20the music. Yeah, but you know, that's OK.
- 1:58:22It's alright. We'll live.
- 1:58:24Thank you, Lola. Thank you so much.
