- 0:59Speaker 2: Juicy Scoop.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Well, I'm so excited. I have an old friend of mine,
- 1:05Speaker 4: meaning that we met many, many years ago. Oscar winner, writer,
- 1:11Speaker 4: TV personality in your own right. Well.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Mother of three boys, boy mom, most important title of all.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Diablo Cody, probably best known for your Oscar win, which
- 1:24Speaker 1: is Juno.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Most amazing movie, but you've done so many movies since,
- 1:28Speaker 4: and you have a new movie out, Lisa's Frankenstein.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Which is, I saw- Just Lisa Frankenstein.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Oh, sorry, Lisa Frankenstein. No possessive. Sorry, Lisa Frankenstein.
- 1:37Speaker 4: And it is a dark comedy. It's from your funny, twisted,
- 1:43Speaker 4: off the beat mind. It's 80s, which I love. It's
- 1:47Speaker 4: from the 80s. And yeah, congrats on everything. But how
- 1:51Speaker 4: many movies have you done now?
- 1:53Speaker 2: I actually don't know. I'd have to count. I want
- 1:55Speaker 2: to say it's like seven or something.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Amazing. Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 4: And you wrote the play, the musical, Jagged Little Pill,
- 2:02Speaker 4: which uses all of Alanis Morissette's music.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I did do that.
- 2:06Speaker 1: How did that come about?
- 2:08Speaker 2: That is honestly one of, first of all, thank you
- 2:09Speaker 2: for that lovely introduction, Heather. It's wonderful to see you.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That came about in, you know, these things typically start
- 2:16Speaker 2: in a very unsexy way with a call from an agent.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But normally, like, people had maybe... you know, suggested that
- 2:24Speaker 2: I get into the theater space before that. But I'd
- 2:27Speaker 2: always been like, yeah, I'm not interested. I'm not interested. Like,
- 2:29Speaker 2: I'm not a theater kid. I don't want to go
- 2:30Speaker 2: to New York. But when they said Alanis Morissette, then,
- 2:33Speaker 2: you know, come on. Like, I'm obsessed with her. I
- 2:36Speaker 2: was obsessed with that album. And I just said, OK,
- 2:38Speaker 2: I have to at least meet with her. And maybe
- 2:41Speaker 2: I just wanted an excuse to meet Alanis. And I
- 2:45Speaker 2: was kind of thinking, I still don't know if I'm
- 2:46Speaker 2: going to do this. And then I met with her.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And then the next thing I know, I'm on this like,
- 2:50Speaker 2: it was like a six or seven year journey To
- 2:53Speaker 2: get that show to the, I mean, it took a long,
- 2:55Speaker 2: it's a, spoiler alert, it's hard work.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So I have not seen it. So how did you
- 3:00Speaker 4: come up with what the play would be about?
- 3:04Speaker 2: So the only, like, creative direction that I was given
- 3:07Speaker 2: was that Alanis didn't want to do, like, a biography. Like,
- 3:11Speaker 2: she didn't want it to be about her life.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Got it.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Because everybody who hears about the show and hasn't seen it,
- 3:15Speaker 2: they always say, like, who played Uncle Joey?
- 3:18Speaker 3: Always.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And I'm like, there is no Dave Coulier in the show.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But that's always.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Or like who played Alanis? It's like she's not in it.
- 3:28Speaker 2: So I just thought like I listened to the album
- 3:29Speaker 2: a few times and not a few times, a million times.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And I thought like I think that this is about
- 3:34Speaker 2: a dysfunctional family and it's about like religious trauma. And
- 3:39Speaker 2: it's about like, you know, sweeping things under the rug
- 3:42Speaker 2: versus addressing them and allowing yourself to heal and like
- 3:44Speaker 2: all these kind of big themes. And we did it.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Amazing.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And now it's touring.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we just finished the North American tour and then
- 3:53Speaker 2: the plan is eventually it'd be wonderful to have it
- 3:55Speaker 2: in the West End.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Do you think it'll be a movie? The way they're
- 3:58Speaker 4: doing like so many musicals are now becoming a movie.
- 4:01Speaker 4: It's usually the other way around.
- 4:03Speaker 2: This gets brought up a lot and I gotta be
- 4:04Speaker 2: honest with you, like being real and not being like
- 4:06Speaker 2: promo person.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I'm scared to do it because some musicals I do
- 4:11Speaker 2: not think work as movies.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Some do.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Grease.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Grease, for instance.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I'm very excited for the Wicked movie.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I haven't seen the Mean Girls musical movie yet.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I haven't yet either, but I will. But I want to.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I will, yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And so, yeah, it comes up, but I always think
- 4:29Speaker 2: to myself, like, what if we, like, accidentally took this
- 4:32Speaker 2: property that's special to us and, like, butchered it?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I'm kind of a pessimist.
- 4:37Speaker 1: You are?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Big time.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You don't work The Secret?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Oh, my God. No, I've, I, should I start vision boarding?
- 4:43Speaker 1: You don't, you know what?
- 4:44Speaker 4: I've never done a board. I've never, I'm not crafty.
- 4:48Speaker 4: So I've never gone to Michael's. I've never gone to,
- 4:51Speaker 4: my friend used to go to parties every January with
- 4:54Speaker 4: a bunch of women and they'd get the magazines and
- 4:56Speaker 4: they would do it. But I have had things work
- 5:01Speaker 4: out in other ways. Like when we first got married
- 5:05Speaker 4: in the Catholic church, we had to do like, they're like,
- 5:07Speaker 4: now draw a photo, draw something of like what your
- 5:11Speaker 4: life will look like in 10 years.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I wasn't overly, I wasn't, in the sky. Okay.
- 5:17Speaker 4: So I did a normal ranch home that was bigger
- 5:21Speaker 4: than what we had because at the time we had
- 5:23Speaker 4: a condo. So I did like a little, you know,
- 5:25Speaker 4: half acre lot with a semi-circular drive and this many bedrooms. And,
- 5:29Speaker 4: and I was like, okay, I'll have a stepdaughter. I'll
- 5:31Speaker 4: be pregnant with, with one and have another one that
- 5:34Speaker 4: I already gave birth to.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Within 10 years. And, or somewhere around there.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Did you manifest your exact vision?
- 5:40Speaker 4: So then I was moving out of my house and
- 5:43Speaker 4: I found the notebook and And that was the exact
- 5:46Speaker 4: house that we were moving into. And I was pregnant
- 5:48Speaker 4: with Brandon. I already had Drake. And it was four bedrooms.
- 5:53Speaker 4: We added onto it after, but it was four bedrooms.
- 5:56Speaker 4: It was a semicircular drive. And so there was lots
- 6:00Speaker 4: of things that I would do in my life that
- 6:03Speaker 4: I didn't know I was actually doing the manifesting. And
- 6:07Speaker 4: then someone else said something recently that they're like, You know,
- 6:10Speaker 4: whether you work the secret, manifest, believe in the universe
- 6:13Speaker 4: or God, or you are a Christian who prays, if
- 6:16Speaker 4: you're praying for something, that is manifesting. So whatsoever works
- 6:20Speaker 4: for you, but it's putting out positive thoughts and it's
- 6:24Speaker 4: the opposite of like jinxing yourself.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I do pray a lot. So maybe that's part of it.
- 6:29Speaker 2: But generally the pessimism stems more from You know this probably.
- 6:35Speaker 2: When you're in the business long enough, you see how
- 6:37Speaker 2: many things don't come to fruition.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:39Speaker 2: At least for me. Maybe everything you've done has.
- 6:41Speaker 1: No, no, not at all.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I mean, I had pilots and auditions and everything that
- 6:45Speaker 4: didn't work out. And I'm just like, most of the
- 6:47Speaker 4: time it doesn't work out.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:48Speaker 4: You probably have so, especially you, being a writer, producer,
- 6:52Speaker 4: so many projects.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Graveyard of failed projects. So for me, I'm like, the
- 6:57Speaker 2: fact that we're even, like, this movie is going to
- 6:59Speaker 2: come out in a couple weeks. And at this point,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I actually believe it's going to happen. Like, I'm like, OK,
- 7:03Speaker 2: but if you had asked me a couple months ago,
- 7:05Speaker 2: I would have been like, I don't know.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Well, obviously, and also with the writer's strike and COVID
- 7:10Speaker 4: and movie theaters and all that stuff, that really probably
- 7:12Speaker 4: changed the.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Normal plan of things.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Completely.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It's just like I can't or even just when Jagged
- 7:20Speaker 2: Little Pill opened on Broadway, we, you know, it was
- 7:23Speaker 2: a culmination of years of work and we had to
- 7:25Speaker 2: shut down like two months later because of COVID.
- 7:27Speaker 4: I think that was the last time I saw you.
- 7:29Speaker 4: You were, we were in like a Newport airport, a
- 7:32Speaker 4: New York airport.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You were coming back from that or whatever. We were going.
- 7:37Speaker 4: And because that, now how, I always did not understand
- 7:41Speaker 4: how you could have three kids and do your writing.
- 7:43Speaker 4: And because when I, okay, so let's do a little
- 7:46Speaker 4: bit background. So we met on Chelsea Lately. You were,
- 7:51Speaker 4: were you a guest first?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Initially I was a guest, yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Okay, you're a guest.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Back when Chelsea wasn't booking like A-listers and she had
- 7:58Speaker 2: to have Diablo Cody on her show.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 8:01Speaker 4: And so what I also love is that then you
- 8:04Speaker 4: like are such a pop culture, like you love all
- 8:07Speaker 4: that stuff and you're fun to talk about it. So
- 8:09Speaker 4: then you sort of became a regular on the show.
- 8:12Speaker 1: You were sometimes on the round table and everything.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 4: And then your husband at the time, he was working
- 8:17Speaker 4: on the show as an editor. And so then we
- 8:19Speaker 4: would all hang out and we went to Vegas together.
- 8:23Speaker 2: We went to Cabo.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yes, Cabo is where we hung out at first.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It's just crazy that, I mean, that was like, Chelsea
- 8:30Speaker 2: Lately was like our social life for years and.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It was fun. It really was. That is so true.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It really was.
- 8:38Speaker 4: And it was, it really was fun. And I'm just
- 8:42Speaker 4: remembering something. You came to my house and I had
- 8:46Speaker 4: some weird psychic.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I remember it well. That psychic told me I was
- 8:50Speaker 2: going to have a daughter and I never did. So
- 8:52Speaker 2: that did stick with me.
- 8:54Speaker 1: That psychic is not good. Oh, really?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Did you also get a disappointing reading?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever. Yeah, it was nothing came true.
- 9:01Speaker 4: And then also she's read me like five times at
- 9:05Speaker 4: different people's parties in L.A.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But like she doesn't really remember it.
- 9:09Speaker 2: But I'm like, oh.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And they're like, and we have a psychic. I'm like, ah,
- 9:12Speaker 1: we can pass.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Here's what I'll say, though, about that party, Heather.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 2: The psychic greeting may not have come true. However, you
- 9:19Speaker 2: did gift me the best hairdryer that I have ever
- 9:22Speaker 2: used in my life that I still use to this day.
- 9:24Speaker 1: God, I don't even know if I– you know what?
- 9:27Speaker 4: I'm so bummed because I remember that whatever the PR
- 9:30Speaker 4: person that I was working with gave.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Me an amazing, amazing hairdryer. And I want to say
- 9:33Speaker 2: I never got one. It's a Rusk Speed Freak.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Do you remember what it's called?
- 9:36Speaker 2: It's called a Speed Freak. And it's the fastest blood
- 9:39Speaker 2: drive I've ever used. And it's still in my regular
- 9:41Speaker 2: daily rotation. And I think of you when I use it.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So thank you.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I love it.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Now, you had a really interesting start to your writing career.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Can you just tell us a little bit about that?
- 9:52Speaker 4: You were a stripper.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I was. I was also like many other things. I
- 9:56Speaker 2: was like the queen of odd jobs. I was like stripping.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I was doing phone sex. I was an instructor. claims processor.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So you said you went to Catholic high school and
- 10:04Speaker 1: grammar school?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I went to Catholic school for 12 years.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Which is amazing.
- 10:09Speaker 4: And so when you finished that, did you not go
- 10:12Speaker 4: to traditional college after that?
- 10:14Speaker 2: I did. I went to University of Iowa. I graduated.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And then I graduated at like the perfect time because
- 10:21Speaker 2: it was 2000 and there were so many jobs and
- 10:24Speaker 2: I moved to Chicago. I got an apartment. I had
- 10:26Speaker 2: a nice job as like a secretary at an ad agency.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And I was just like kind of doing my little
- 10:33Speaker 2: 20 something thing, right? And then I just, I just
- 10:37Speaker 2: had this feeling like I'm like, I had, I felt
- 10:43Speaker 2: like this is tough to articulate, but it seemed like
- 10:46Speaker 2: I had just done too linear and too perfect of
- 10:48Speaker 2: a path.
- 10:49Speaker 5: We all like to think we've got a good eye
- 10:51Speaker 5: for a winning move. But when it comes to property,
- 10:54Speaker 5: it's about seeing the bigger picture. More space.
- 10:57Speaker 2: A shorter commute.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Somewhere near the sea.
- 11:00Speaker 5: On daft.ie, you can explore standout homes for sale across
- 11:04Speaker 5: South Dublin. From Ranelagh to Rathfarnham. Stillorgan to Sandy Cove.
- 11:09Speaker 5: When you're ready for the next chapter, start with Ireland's
- 11:12Speaker 5: number one property platform.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Daft.ie I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each
- 11:19Speaker 3: week on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people
- 11:22Speaker 3: who have faced tremendous setbacks, and yet somehow have found
- 11:26Speaker 3: a way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Life is one long lesson of chaos.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I'm heading to the Emmys, and I have police complaints
- 11:35Speaker 1: filed against me.
- 11:35Speaker 5: When your free will was about to be taken from you,
- 11:38Speaker 5: what would you do if it was given back?
- 11:40Speaker 3: Where did that need come from, where you thought that
- 11:43Speaker 3: you had to succeed in order to feel loved?
- 11:45Speaker 2: He said, I have a work dad.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I need a home dad.
- 11:48Speaker 2: What happens next? When I came in, he started crying.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Everybody in life encounters hardships. What defines them is not
- 11:55Speaker 3: those hard moments that they go through.
- 11:57Speaker 2: It's about what happens next. I decided to risk it all.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I realized how valuable every day was.
- 12:02Speaker 2: You're worth the work.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Listen, Dara, I'm not going to pull punches.
- 12:05Speaker 2: You can use your voice even if it's shaped.
- 12:07Speaker 3: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 12:21Speaker 4: And I went at that time because you're you're always
- 12:24Speaker 4: you're so pretty.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Oh, thank you.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I've had like the black hair and blue eyes and
- 12:28Speaker 4: you've always kind of have like the edgy fashion style
- 12:31Speaker 4: kind of, you know.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Like were you like that then or not yet?
- 12:36Speaker 2: Not really.
- 12:36Speaker 5: OK.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I kind of hadn't really figured out who I was.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Uh huh.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And I met this guy online. And he lived in Minneapolis.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And I went, I'm just going to move there to
- 12:48Speaker 2: be with this guy, which is the kind of thing
- 12:49Speaker 2: I do.
- 12:49Speaker 1: But wait, had you seen him before you moved?
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Okay, so you were like, had a little long distance
- 12:55Speaker 1: thing going.
- 12:55Speaker 2: We had a little long distance thing going. Which, by
- 12:58Speaker 2: the way, at the time, it was quite unusual to
- 12:59Speaker 2: meet someone on the internet. So everybody thought I was
- 13:01Speaker 2: going to get murdered.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah. But it was... Well, guess what? You still couldn't
- 13:05Speaker 1: get murdered.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Yeah, you can.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You can.
- 13:06Speaker 1: That's never gone out of style. But I mean, people
- 13:07Speaker 1: were shocked.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Like, what?
- 13:09Speaker 2: You met him online? I did.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Moved to Minneapolis. And when I got there, I thought like,
- 13:14Speaker 2: This is crazy. Nobody knows who I am. Like I
- 13:16Speaker 2: could just do whatever I want to do. I don't
- 13:18Speaker 2: have to. And I walked into a strip club and
- 13:21Speaker 2: I said, I'm going to start working here.
- 13:23Speaker 4: And were you right to stripping or you were a
- 13:25Speaker 4: waitress first?
- 13:26Speaker 2: No, I went right to it. I took my clothes
- 13:27Speaker 2: off that night.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Complete? Yeah. Like complete badge out?
- 13:31Speaker 2: No, actually that was, so this, the first club I
- 13:33Speaker 2: went to was topless only. Okay. But I was down
- 13:35Speaker 2: to like a thong.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Okay. Which is.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Sorry for the visual. I was cute then.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 2: But it was, I'm just saying no one wants to
- 13:43Speaker 2: see me in a thong now. At the time, I'm
- 13:45Speaker 2: sure it was adorable.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Okay.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And then I just, I made a little bit of money.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I was never one of those strippers that brings home
- 13:51Speaker 2: like thousands of dollars a night and has tons of regulars.
- 13:53Speaker 4: So were you one of those strippers that knew how to, yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 4: so you weren't one of those that could get a
- 13:59Speaker 4: regular and make them think that you loved them.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I'm so bad at that.
- 14:03Speaker 1: That is like such an art.
- 14:04Speaker 5: It is.
- 14:05Speaker 2: People do not realize it is sales.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And the girls who are the top sellers are absolute geniuses.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Like they should be in a different field because if
- 14:13Speaker 2: you have the ability to convince people that you actually
- 14:17Speaker 2: have an emotional attachment to them while they are paying
- 14:19Speaker 2: you for your time, you're a genius.
- 14:21Speaker 4: And all you have to do is just go like this, right?
- 14:23Speaker 4: It's more than that. Like you just have to do
- 14:25Speaker 4: the– what I'm saying sexually, you don't have to do
- 14:27Speaker 4: that much.
- 14:27Speaker 2: You don't have to do much.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:28Speaker 2: And the girls who made the most money were never
- 14:30Speaker 2: the prettiest.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:31Speaker 2: And they were never– had the best bodies and they
- 14:33Speaker 2: never– it was 100% like intellectual, cerebral, emotional intelligence. Wow.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Okay. So you just were like.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I was like whatever.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Okay.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Like I was having fun and I also– And did.
- 14:46Speaker 4: You make friends with the girls? Were the girls nice
- 14:48Speaker 4: or was it weird and competitive?
- 14:49Speaker 2: No. Some of them were nice. Like the problem was
- 14:53Speaker 2: that kind of environment– Similar to the Playboy Mansion, if
- 14:55Speaker 2: you've ever talked to the.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Girl that came out of that system. I've talked to
- 14:59Speaker 1: all of them.
- 14:59Speaker 2: That environment just fosters competition and negativity. I wanted it
- 15:04Speaker 2: to be like a sorority house, pajama party, but most
- 15:07Speaker 2: people were not very trusting, and you can't blame them.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Yeah, because there's some people who have a story, but
- 15:14Speaker 4: you didn't have a story. You weren't that girl that
- 15:17Speaker 4: had nothing going on. I recognize that now. At the time,
- 15:20Speaker 4: I think I didn't. I didn't recognize my own privilege
- 15:24Speaker 4: to be honest.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And now I'm like, Oh my God, like I had
- 15:26Speaker 2: a college degree. Yeah. Like I had a supportive family
- 15:29Speaker 2: and I wasn't an addict. I, and I just, there
- 15:34Speaker 2: were so many women in that situation that didn't have
- 15:37Speaker 2: what I had.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:38Speaker 4: That, um, go about life differently and they have to
- 15:41Speaker 4: be a little bit cutthroat.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Because they, people were not looking out for them when
- 15:45Speaker 1: they were young.
- 15:46Speaker 6: No.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Look out for themselves.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 4: And so, so you, so, Is this when you started
- 15:51Speaker 4: to start your like Tumblr account or whatever?
- 15:54Speaker 1: Wasn't that it? Like you started to blog about it.
- 15:57Speaker 2: This was pre-Tumblr actually. I actually had to build my
- 15:59Speaker 2: own blog with, I had to take an HTML class.
- 16:02Speaker 2: So I took an HTML and JavaScript class so I
- 16:05Speaker 2: could code my blog. That's how long ago this was.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And then I started just, it's funny because initially I
- 16:11Speaker 2: was just writing about my stupid day and my stupid hobbies.
- 16:14Speaker 2: And of course, four people are reading it. The day
- 16:16Speaker 2: I started writing about stripping, all of a sudden I have, readers.
- 16:21Speaker 2: All of a sudden the hits are piling up. And
- 16:25Speaker 2: I went, okay, I guess this is the shtick. Sex sells.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I'm just going to write about stripping. And so that's
- 16:31Speaker 2: what I did.
- 16:32Speaker 4: And you know, it's so interesting too, because with influencers now,
- 16:36Speaker 4: and you sometimes hear that and all of a sudden
- 16:38Speaker 4: someone blows up and they're like, I've been on TikTok
- 16:40Speaker 4: for two years doing cooking.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Videos or whatever.
- 16:43Speaker 4: But then one day I talked about whatever, my narcissistic mom.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And it You know, went crazy.
- 16:50Speaker 4: So, like, sometimes you just don't know what the thing is.
- 16:54Speaker 4: And you're like, well, yeah, this is interesting to people.
- 16:58Speaker 4: And it's interesting because it's the way I tell it,
- 17:00Speaker 4: you know?
- 17:00Speaker 2: I mean, it is. And I admit it's kind of
- 17:03Speaker 2: a cheap hook. I mean, literally, the reason I'm talking
- 17:05Speaker 2: to you right now, the reason as a screenwriter they're
- 17:08Speaker 2: sending me out to promote this movie, which usually they
- 17:10Speaker 2: don't do with writers, is because of all that, like,
- 17:14Speaker 2: wacky stripping shit I did back in the day. Like,
- 17:16Speaker 2: that was how people... Found out who I was.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So what was it? Didn't an agent somehow come across it?
- 17:22Speaker 2: So my manager that I'm still with.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Oh, manager.
- 17:24Speaker 2: 20 years later.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And I love when someone can be with someone for
- 17:27Speaker 1: that long.
- 17:28Speaker 2: We produce together now.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Only a few people are lucky enough, you know?
- 17:31Speaker 4: But then you see that a lot of successful people
- 17:36Speaker 4: are ones that were able to find that great person.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It's like, you know, finding the perfect marriage or.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Whatever, because they're the ones that when they did get
- 17:42Speaker 4: their thing, they're like, we've been working together for 30 years.
- 17:44Speaker 4: You're like, Oh my God, I, there's so few people
- 17:46Speaker 4: that can say that in this business that it found
- 17:49Speaker 4: that one person and stuck with them.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Heather, I was so lucky. I would, I'm still with the,
- 17:53Speaker 2: my original manager, agent and attorney. And my, I was
- 17:56Speaker 2: my agent's first client. I mean, we're still, I have like,
- 18:00Speaker 2: I really found the right people right off the bat.
- 18:02Speaker 2: And that's such a huge part of what I've been.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Able to do. So this person reaches out to you.
- 18:07Speaker 2: He reaches out to me over email because I had
- 18:09Speaker 2: an email link on my blog. And he was just like,
- 18:13Speaker 2: I'm a Hollywood person. I'm a Hollywood manager. And like,
- 18:17Speaker 2: I think you have a voice for screenwriting. You should
- 18:18Speaker 2: try writing a script. And I was like, this guy's
- 18:20Speaker 2: full of shit. Like, who is it? Can I swear?
- 18:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I was like, who is this dude? Like, this has
- 18:24Speaker 2: to be fake.
- 18:25Speaker 6: Right.
- 18:25Speaker 2: So I Googled him and I saw he had just worked. Yeah,
- 18:28Speaker 2: I guess Google was there.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I looked him up on my search engine. And he
- 18:35Speaker 2: had just worked on a movie with Wes Craven, and
- 18:36Speaker 2: I'm a huge horror fan. And I was like, oh,
- 18:38Speaker 2: my God, this is a legit person. I can't believe it.
- 18:41Speaker 2: So I said, OK. I said, I'll try writing a screenplay.
- 18:43Speaker 2: And I just, like, bought some screenplays at Barnes &
- 18:46Speaker 2: Noble and read them. And I went, OK, I think
- 18:50Speaker 2: I'll just try it. And that was the beginning.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And what was the first screenplay you wrote?
- 18:54Speaker 2: Juno.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Oh, that was the very first one. And how did
- 18:57Speaker 4: you get the idea for that?
- 18:59Speaker 2: I don't know. I think here's what I remember, because
- 19:02Speaker 2: it was a long time ago. I remember I was
- 19:05Speaker 2: sitting at my little kitchen table in Minnesota and I
- 19:07Speaker 2: was thinking to myself, like, I want to write a
- 19:10Speaker 2: movie about a relationship that like exists in the world,
- 19:13Speaker 2: but you don't see movies about it. And I was
- 19:15Speaker 2: thinking about how what a strange dynamic it must be
- 19:19Speaker 2: for a couple to meet the person that is carrying
- 19:23Speaker 2: the child they're going to adopt. And I went, all right.
- 19:26Speaker 2: So I wrote the first scene of the movie that
- 19:28Speaker 2: I wrote was when the couple meet Juno.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And it was a really at the time I didn't
- 19:34Speaker 2: know what I was doing. So the scene was like
- 19:35Speaker 2: 17 pages long. I think in the movie it's probably
- 19:38Speaker 2: two or three minutes.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Right.
- 19:40Speaker 2: And but I remember after writing it, I was like, OK,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I think I weirdly I think I know who these
- 19:44Speaker 2: people are. Like and then I started from the beginning.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Very, yeah. Because, you know, it was such
- 19:50Speaker 1: a great movie.
- 19:51Speaker 4: We loved, and of course, you know, you got so
- 19:54Speaker 4: blessed with the actors that were chosen.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Jason Bateman and, wait, who was the wife? Jennifer?
- 19:59Speaker 2: Jennifer Garner.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And she was great.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Her, like her way of being so earnest and pure
- 20:04Speaker 4: was just perfect, right?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:06Speaker 4: And, and I mean, everything about it was just, But
- 20:10Speaker 4: then there were the twists. So like the twist of
- 20:15Speaker 4: of the Jason Bateman character not being so great.
- 20:19Speaker 2: No.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And he was like, when did you decide?
- 20:23Speaker 4: Did you know from before you sat down that that
- 20:25Speaker 4: did you know like this was going to be the beginning,
- 20:27Speaker 4: the middle and the end before you ever started? Or
- 20:29Speaker 4: were you just starting to go and it like led
- 20:31Speaker 4: you to these?
- 20:33Speaker 2: It's funny. At the time, I think I really was
- 20:35Speaker 2: writing on like gut instinct. And I don't think I
- 20:38Speaker 2: knew exactly what was going to happen. Now, I'm really
- 20:41Speaker 2: different now, especially because I have to be much more
- 20:44Speaker 2: economical with my time.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yeah, with three sons.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean, I'm just like, so now everything's outlined,
- 20:49Speaker 2: everything's planned. I know exactly what scene is going to
- 20:51Speaker 2: come next. And also at the time, I just, I
- 20:53Speaker 2: had no education in screenwriting or storytelling. So I was just,
- 20:57Speaker 2: I knew I had to have three acts.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 2: And so I think I knew how each act was
- 21:00Speaker 2: going to end, but that was it.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So you're writing the script. You're still, are you still stripping?
- 21:07Speaker 2: At the time, yes. I was. And then for, but
- 21:11Speaker 2: for most of Juno, I was working at an insurance
- 21:13Speaker 2: company because I remember sitting at my little computer and
- 21:15Speaker 2: switching over to Juno when I was on my lunch break.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Okay. And then, um, and you're still with
- 21:22Speaker 1: the guy.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I was still, I was still with my first,
- 21:25Speaker 2: I've now been married twice.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Um, but I was still with my first husband at
- 21:29Speaker 2: the time.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 4: And, and he knows you're writing this script and he's like,
- 21:33Speaker 4: this is amazing.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Or what was his thought?
- 21:35Speaker 2: He was super supportive. Like he was like, He was
- 21:37Speaker 2: reading it as I went, and he was like, you
- 21:39Speaker 2: know this is really good, right? And I was like,
- 21:41Speaker 2: of course you're going to say that. But he was like, no, no, no.
- 21:44Speaker 2: He's like, I actually think this is a good movie.
- 21:46Speaker 4: So then when you send it over to the manager person,
- 21:50Speaker 4: and how quickly did he get back and was like.
- 21:53Speaker 2: No, see, this is what I love about Mason. He
- 21:55Speaker 2: is like the most blasé person. He has never ever,
- 21:58Speaker 2: in all the years that I've known him, he's never
- 22:00Speaker 2: blown any smoke up my ass. He is just... Very like, yeah,
- 22:05Speaker 2: let's see. I remember even in the beginning, before I
- 22:07Speaker 2: even wrote the script, he said to me, he's like,
- 22:10Speaker 2: he's like, look, you really don't have to be very
- 22:13Speaker 2: good at this. He's like, because I have a pile
- 22:15Speaker 2: of scripts on my desk and most of them are bad.
- 22:18Speaker 2: So you just have to be like a little bit
- 22:19Speaker 2: better than these bad scripts. And he's like, I think
- 22:23Speaker 2: you can do that. Like you seem maybe kind of talented.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Like he was never like Hollywood about it. Like he
- 22:29Speaker 2: was very and he still isn't like that. So he
- 22:32Speaker 2: read it and he was like, look, he's like, let's
- 22:34Speaker 2: see what we can do with this. He didn't, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 2: he wasn't. I should ask him about it now because
- 22:39Speaker 2: maybe he did love it, but he didn't let on
- 22:41Speaker 2: that he did. And then one day I was at
- 22:44Speaker 2: work and he was just calling me over and over
- 22:46Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, my God. And then he
- 22:47Speaker 2: told me.
- 22:48Speaker 1: You're still at the church thing typing away.
- 22:50Speaker 2: So at that point.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I was always bouncing from job to job and I
- 22:53Speaker 2: still would be if I hadn't landed here.
- 22:56Speaker 5: Right.
- 22:57Speaker 2: At that point, I was working at a local paper.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I actually had a paid writing job at that point.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And he called me at the paper while I was
- 23:04Speaker 2: in a staff meeting. And I was like, I can
- 23:05Speaker 2: hear my phone ringing in the hallway. And I'm like,
- 23:07Speaker 2: I'm just going to go get that.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And he's like, pick up.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Like, I have the best news. And it turned out
- 23:11Speaker 2: that someone wanted to make the movie.
- 23:14Speaker 4: And so then from there, how quickly do you and
- 23:18Speaker 4: your first husband move to L.A.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I moved to L.A. I mean, that was like, I
- 23:23Speaker 2: can't talk about that breakup.
- 23:25Speaker 1: That's when you were like, okay, I think this relationship
- 23:27Speaker 1: has run its course.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Well, there was a lot going on.
- 23:30Speaker 1: But it was.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I wound up moving to Los Angeles.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:35Speaker 4: So then, I mean, when the movie hits, you get
- 23:39Speaker 4: nominated for original screenplay.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:44Speaker 4: And where were you when you found out you were nominated?
- 23:45Speaker 4: Because Chris and I, Chris was on yesterday. Not yesterday,
- 23:49Speaker 4: but whenever this airs.
- 23:50Speaker 1: You know, last week. Chris Frangelo was on and we
- 23:52Speaker 1: talked about the Oscars.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Oh, Chris Frangelo was here?
- 23:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:54Speaker 1: We talked about the Oscars.
- 23:55Speaker 4: And I always remember people would say that story of like,
- 23:58Speaker 4: some people I think would lie and be like, ugh.
- 24:01Speaker 1: The phone rang at 5 a.m. and I thought someone died.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Oh, I hate that. I hate when people act like
- 24:06Speaker 2: they didn't know the nominations were that day. It's like,
- 24:08Speaker 2: come on, you were sitting up and you know it. No,
- 24:11Speaker 2: I was actually so I was scheduled. This is like.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Did you know it was a possibility? Yes.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Yeah, totally.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Because.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Because all the other things.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I had been nominated for everything leading up to it.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So I was like, yeah, I knew I was going
- 24:22Speaker 2: to get nominated. Like, I wish I could be like,
- 24:24Speaker 2: I was shocked.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I knew it.
- 24:26Speaker 2: But I was sitting in a hotel because I was
- 24:27Speaker 2: going to be on Letterman that night because I think
- 24:29Speaker 2: they also knew I was going to get nominated. So
- 24:31Speaker 2: they were like, this will work. And I had a
- 24:33Speaker 2: friend with me and they announced the nominations. And we
- 24:37Speaker 2: did the weirdest thing. We ran out of the hotel.
- 24:39Speaker 2: We ran down the street to the Gap.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 2: We burst into the Gap. And then my friend yelled,
- 24:45Speaker 2: she got nominated for an Oscar. I'm going to buy
- 24:46Speaker 2: her a sweater and bought me a green sweater.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Just because?
- 24:51Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So I have a green sweater that is my souvenir
- 24:54Speaker 2: of that day.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And you kept it.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And, okay, so you get nominated.
- 25:01Speaker 4: And I remember what you wore.
- 25:03Speaker 1: You wore a leopard dress.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that they picked out for me. I mean, at
- 25:06Speaker 2: the time, it was like just this whirlwind of like,
- 25:09Speaker 2: here's what.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You're going to wear. What do you mean? You didn't
- 25:11Speaker 1: get to pick it out?
- 25:12Speaker 2: I mean, I sort of did. So the studio hired
- 25:15Speaker 2: a stylist for me, which I've never had a stylist
- 25:17Speaker 2: since then, which you can probably tell. But I was like...
- 25:21Speaker 2: And it was like, you know, like a fancy, it
- 25:22Speaker 2: was like Jessica Simpson's stylist. Like I was like, what
- 25:25Speaker 2: is going on? And at the time, Heather, in 2007, 2008,
- 25:30Speaker 2: they did not know how to dress anyone that was
- 25:32Speaker 2: not the sample size.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Like true.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And no designer would dress anyone that was not the
- 25:37Speaker 2: sample size. So it was a challenge. Like they were
- 25:39Speaker 2: just like, here is a muumuu. But yeah, that was
- 25:44Speaker 2: a leopard Dior dress. I still have that.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I actually thought it was really great.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Thank you. No, I loved wearing it too. I just
- 25:50Speaker 2: remember at the time, everyone was like, that is so ugly.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Oh, you mean like critics? Well, that's back when people were,
- 25:55Speaker 4: that's fashion police time where people would say awful stuff.
- 25:58Speaker 2: That was the time. It was like snark was like
- 26:01Speaker 2: the thing.
- 26:02Speaker 1: The Chelsea Lately time.
- 26:03Speaker 2: No, I was literally going to say, and we were
- 26:05Speaker 2: part of it.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I know.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I know, I'm always like, oh my God.
- 26:11Speaker 4: God, the amount of things that I'm almost like.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Dan and I sometimes talk about how- Some of the
- 26:18Speaker 2: content on that show was... Oh, my God. For now.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm like... You know, I remember with the YouTube, like,
- 26:27Speaker 1: it was like we would.
- 26:29Speaker 4: They had, like, a fan post.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It was a fake fan.
- 26:31Speaker 4: It was one of the editors would post on this YouTube.
- 26:36Speaker 4: And that is, like, how I kind of became better
- 26:39Speaker 4: known is I.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Did this video... where I was Heidi of Spencer and Heidi.
- 26:46Speaker 4: And we went to the beach and we did this
- 26:48Speaker 4: whole thing and we mocked their music video. Now I'm
- 26:52Speaker 4: very good friends with both of them, you know, and
- 26:54Speaker 4: they're still married.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And they're like, you know, I love them. Yes. They're
- 26:58Speaker 1: like two kids and all the whole thing.
- 27:00Speaker 4: But that got millions of views on YouTube. And then
- 27:05Speaker 4: E was kind of like, oh, we don't want people
- 27:08Speaker 4: posting it till after Christmas.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Whatever, it airs.
- 27:12Speaker 4: And then, so it was, so then they controlled it. They,
- 27:14Speaker 4: nobody could post anything but that, which was fine. But
- 27:17Speaker 4: then when the show ended, I think they were mad
- 27:20Speaker 4: at Chelsea and they took it all down.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And at first I was like, I can't believe it.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And now I'm like, thank God. Oh yeah, no, I know.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, my God, please. And there's still some, like,
- 27:35Speaker 1: hate groups that will bring up stuff that I do.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I'm like, what do you want? What do you want? No,
- 27:39Speaker 2: it's good that it's scrubbed.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Yeah. It's there. I did it. We did it. It happened.
- 27:44Speaker 1: What do you want from me? You know, like, it exists.
- 27:48Speaker 1: People grow and change. That's the whole point. I'm not
- 27:50Speaker 1: doing it today.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, that's always the point that I'm making is
- 27:55Speaker 2: like I don't– like I think it's a wonderful thing
- 27:57Speaker 2: when people change and grow and educate themselves.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Yes.
- 28:00Speaker 2: So for me, it's like I don't quite understand sometimes
- 28:04Speaker 2: the– I get the– I understand call-out culture. I get
- 28:07Speaker 2: it and it's necessary.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 2: And cancel culture is necessary in some situations too. Goodbye, Harvey.
- 28:11Speaker 2: But like I think if somebody has shown a willingness
- 28:13Speaker 2: to change and like an actual growth, like it's a
- 28:16Speaker 2: good thing.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Speaking of Harvey Weinstein.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Had you ever heard any rumblings before it all came
- 28:22Speaker 4: to fruition?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Everyone had.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Everybody knew. That's what's so crazy about that situation. And
- 28:29Speaker 2: so many of those situations where it was like no
- 28:31Speaker 2: one is surprised to hear that, you know, Scott Rudin's
- 28:34Speaker 2: abusive or like, you know, it's like people just knew that.
- 28:37Speaker 4: But did you ever have any opportunity to work with
- 28:39Speaker 4: him in which you'd have to make a decision of.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Yes or no? No, I never was cornered by Harvey.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I never worked with him.
- 28:44Speaker 1: But what if you had been approached to work on something?
- 28:47Speaker 4: Oh, to work on something? Not where you had to
- 28:49Speaker 4: go meet him at the Peninsula. But having heard rumors
- 28:53Speaker 4: and stuff, do you honestly think that would have ever
- 28:56Speaker 4: made you go, you know what, can we look for
- 28:58Speaker 4: a different film person?
- 28:59Speaker 2: No, I'm going to be honest with you.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:01Speaker 2: At the time? I love that you're honest. I would
- 29:02Speaker 2: think I can see why people did. And so did
- 29:05Speaker 2: many other people.
- 29:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:06Speaker 2: You know, I probably would have said like, okay, I'll just,
- 29:08Speaker 2: I'll be careful. I wouldn't have been thinking about the
- 29:10Speaker 2: fact that I don't want this monster to continue to profit.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 29:13Speaker 2: And now I would feel differently. But at the time
- 29:16Speaker 2: I was, honestly, I was very, I had tunnel vision
- 29:19Speaker 2: and was very self-centered.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I understand that when it's Hollywood and
- 29:24Speaker 4: you don't want to turn down any opportunity and you
- 29:26Speaker 4: think that opportunity may not come around again. And so
- 29:29Speaker 4: you can, you know, put the blinders on or compartmentalize
- 29:33Speaker 4: or whatever it takes to be like, yeah, exactly that.
- 29:36Speaker 4: And then in retrospect, you're like, yeah, you know, I'm
- 29:39Speaker 4: always waiting. for someone to come out. And I've said
- 29:43Speaker 4: this so many times and be like, look, I did
- 29:48Speaker 4: sleep with these people to get a part because I
- 29:50Speaker 4: knew that was the only way to get me in front.
- 29:52Speaker 4: And then guess what? I, everyone saw how great I was.
- 29:55Speaker 4: And then I never had to sleep with creeps again.
- 29:58Speaker 4: But I would love it if some actress who I
- 30:01Speaker 4: know is walking on this earth still today could just
- 30:04Speaker 4: be really honest about her story.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Heather, this is like the exact, like I sent this
- 30:08Speaker 2: whole TED Talk to my group chat at one point
- 30:11Speaker 2: where I said the same thing.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 30:13Speaker 2: I said, you know, the people we are not hearing
- 30:16Speaker 2: from are the people who willingly slept with people as
- 30:20Speaker 2: a transaction to get ahead.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 30:22Speaker 2: They exist. Right. Why is nobody talking about it? Because
- 30:25Speaker 2: I actually think that's an important story to share. And
- 30:28Speaker 2: I actually think if I had, I would tell you.
- 30:30Speaker 4: And I thank you. And I also think there's there's
- 30:34Speaker 4: that's being a feminist, too. That's being like I was
- 30:36Speaker 4: smart enough to know that I was not going to
- 30:40Speaker 4: get that part the legit way.
- 30:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 4: And I knew the guy was here and I knew
- 30:43Speaker 4: what I had to do. And I said, just give
- 30:45Speaker 4: me this part. And I fucking killed that small part.
- 30:47Speaker 4: And from there, I never had to suck another dick. Like,
- 30:51Speaker 4: just say it like just.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I mean, I never.
- 30:54Speaker 4: It would be so interesting. And I think it would
- 30:56Speaker 4: be empowering, empowering, empowering. And also I think it would, yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 4: women had to do stuff we didn't want to do,
- 31:04Speaker 4: but we were smart enough to be like, um, I'm
- 31:06Speaker 4: going to count to whatever, hold my breath and get
- 31:10Speaker 4: through it and, and know that I just need people
- 31:13Speaker 4: to see me and they're not going to see me
- 31:15Speaker 4: because my parents aren't famous and or whatever, you know?
- 31:19Speaker 2: That's the thing. I mean, that's why I've always fully
- 31:21Speaker 2: acknowledged the fact that the reason that I got to
- 31:24Speaker 2: become like a screenwriter with a face, a recognizable screenwriter,
- 31:29Speaker 2: which there are not that many of us, is because
- 31:32Speaker 2: I did like sexy stuff at the time. That was
- 31:39Speaker 2: how I got my foot in the door.
- 31:40Speaker 4: And, I mean, I also just think, yes, you're a female,
- 31:43Speaker 4: you're unique, and you were young.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Yeah. How young were you when you got nominated?
- 31:48Speaker 2: I wasn't that young. I was 29.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So that's pretty, you know.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. It's unusual.
- 31:53Speaker 1: It's still somewhat unusual, right?
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 4: And also you were like hip and you had like a,
- 31:58Speaker 4: you know, an edgy style. And I think that was
- 32:01Speaker 4: just something that was fun to see. It was, you know,
- 32:04Speaker 4: it all fit and it was cool.
- 32:06Speaker 2: And at the time, at the time it was, it's
- 32:08Speaker 2: funny looking back because I feel like the new generation of,
- 32:12Speaker 2: public figures are able to really express themselves and talk
- 32:15Speaker 2: about their sexuality and they're this and it's like it's
- 32:18Speaker 2: it must be so fun right it must be so
- 32:20Speaker 2: fun to just be like yeah I'm queer I'm this
- 32:22Speaker 2: and that you know it's like and at the time
- 32:24Speaker 2: it was just like me having tattoos was wild it
- 32:27Speaker 2: was wild yeah it was like oh my god it
- 32:30Speaker 2: was like people thought it was the craziest thing and
- 32:33Speaker 2: I'm like I don't know.
- 32:34Speaker 1: It was like how does this tattoo girl know how
- 32:37Speaker 1: to write I.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Know It was honestly that was that was that was
- 32:40Speaker 2: really like the dialogue around me was like a stripper
- 32:44Speaker 2: with tattoos who's literate.
- 32:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 2: And it's just like so ridiculous.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Yeah. OK, so. So, well, we so we started to
- 32:53Speaker 1: have fun.
- 32:53Speaker 4: You started to become such a personality and you had
- 32:56Speaker 4: some other I remember you had your red trailer.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I had a rev-in trailer. Thank you for
- 33:02Speaker 2: bringing this up. This is, like, nobody talks about this.
- 33:05Speaker 1: You had your own talk show.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I had a little YouTube talk show in my Airstream
- 33:10Speaker 2: trailer and interviewed celebs, and it was fun.
- 33:15Speaker 4: And how does it, I mean, do you, what was
- 33:19Speaker 4: it like to kind of go from being the writer
- 33:23Speaker 4: then kind of being your own famous person, you know,
- 33:27Speaker 4: where you were, like, a famous person?
- 33:30Speaker 1: And recognizable.
- 33:32Speaker 4: And going back to sort of being more the writer,
- 33:36Speaker 4: you know, have you directed as well?
- 33:38Speaker 2: I directed once and I didn't like it.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Okay. But the writer, creator, you know, do you get
- 33:43Speaker 1: recognized as you walk around?
- 33:44Speaker 5: No.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 33:45Speaker 6: No, no, no. Okay.
- 33:45Speaker 2: And that's honestly, like, I prefer it that way.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 33:48Speaker 2: To me, I... So you don't.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Miss any of that?
- 33:50Speaker 2: No, absolutely not. And, like, I avoid it, honestly, because
- 33:53Speaker 2: when you're in the Academy... You were asking me before
- 33:56Speaker 2: we began, you said, do you get invited to the Oscars?
- 33:58Speaker 2: The answer is no. However, I do, because I'm in
- 34:01Speaker 2: the voting body, get invited to these crazy parties every
- 34:03Speaker 2: year where it's like, you know, fancy A-lister type parties,
- 34:07Speaker 2: but I never go to any of them. I haven't
- 34:09Speaker 2: been to one in years because I just, I don't,
- 34:14Speaker 2: I realized from that whole experience you're talking about that
- 34:16Speaker 2: I'm not comfortable being a public figure. Like, and I'm
- 34:19Speaker 2: not comfortable in like celebrity circles. And I just like
- 34:23Speaker 2: being in the Valley. With my dirty kids. That's what
- 34:27Speaker 2: I like.
- 34:28Speaker 1: It's too much to get all dressed up and go.
- 34:30Speaker 1: It's too, like, stressful for you?
- 34:32Speaker 3: It is.
- 34:32Speaker 1: It's not fun.
- 34:33Speaker 2: I find it incredibly stressful.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Okay.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It's, I guess, like, sometimes I think to myself, you
- 34:40Speaker 2: should just get back out there.
- 34:42Speaker 1: And I'm like, I don't know.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I think it's good to recognize... you know, at a
- 34:47Speaker 4: certain point.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Like, no, that's not my vibe.
- 34:49Speaker 2: It's not my vibe.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Just like the girl that pretends like she's into camping
- 34:52Speaker 4: with her boyfriend and she's not into fucking camping.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I literally had to pretend that I was into getting
- 34:57Speaker 2: dressed up and like into like being.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Schmoozing.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 2: And it's not, I just don't like it.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I like it. Do you?
- 35:07Speaker 2: That's great.
- 35:08Speaker 1: You ever decide you want to go to something again?
- 35:10Speaker 2: And bring you?
- 35:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Well, I got invited to your other premiere. That's actually
- 35:15Speaker 4: one of the times I saw you in the last
- 35:17Speaker 4: few years. I'm sorry that I don't remember the name,
- 35:20Speaker 4: but it was the movie about the mom suffering from postpartum.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Tully. Yeah, you were there.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Tully.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Tully.
- 35:26Speaker 1: T-U-L-L-Y. Oh, that's it. That's a really good movie.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 35:31Speaker 4: That was a really juicy movie with a twist. And
- 35:37Speaker 4: knowing that you were a mom of three, was that
- 35:40Speaker 4: at all.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Your story.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 35:45Speaker 1: You suffered from postpartum. I did.
- 35:47Speaker 2: And it's funny because the first couple of times it
- 35:50Speaker 2: didn't happen. And then I had Nico and I was
- 35:53Speaker 2: that's your baby. Yeah, my baby who's eight now. I'm
- 35:55Speaker 2: making it sound like it's his fault. I'm like, and then.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Nico came and fucked every, no, he's.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Well, also a third, I'm just thinking you have more
- 36:04Speaker 4: going on with, you have two other ones you have
- 36:06Speaker 4: to watch, you know? So I just think every situation
- 36:09Speaker 4: is different, which is why birth order is something I
- 36:12Speaker 4: find fascinating.
- 36:13Speaker 6: Same.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Because you can have the same parents you could have raised,
- 36:16Speaker 4: been raised in the same neighborhood, the same home, and
- 36:19Speaker 4: you're going to have a totally different experience than maybe
- 36:21Speaker 4: your sibling who's six years older.
- 36:23Speaker 2: A hundred percent.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Or younger.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:24Speaker 2: And I really, I'll be honest with you, like I
- 36:26Speaker 2: bit off more than I could chew. With three kids.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I couldn't believe you had a third.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Me neither. It was because that psychic told me I
- 36:32Speaker 2: was going to have a girl. And I was like, oh,
- 36:34Speaker 2: here she comes. This all, is this all your fault?
- 36:38Speaker 1: I think this is all my fault. But you have
- 36:40Speaker 1: a perfect Nico now.
- 36:42Speaker 2: No, I'm just kidding. No, Nico's, Nico's incredible. And he's
- 36:44Speaker 2: also so necessary to the dynamic of our family. Like,
- 36:46Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like every person, he's, he's,
- 36:49Speaker 2: he needs to be there and he's awesome. But like
- 36:52Speaker 2: at the time, I definitely bit off more than I
- 36:54Speaker 2: could chew.
- 36:54Speaker 4: And what, and how did you suffer from it? Did
- 36:57Speaker 4: you know this is what was happening to you?
- 36:59Speaker 2: No, that's the thing. I think it's really hard to see.
- 37:01Speaker 2: And I didn't realize what was going on until I
- 37:03Speaker 2: went to, Nico was a few weeks old and I
- 37:05Speaker 2: briefly ducked out of the house to see a friend.
- 37:08Speaker 2: And she immediately saw that there was, it was the
- 37:11Speaker 2: same friend that bought me the sweater, actually.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Oh, so she knows you well.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and she, Dana, she saw that I was suffering.
- 37:19Speaker 2: And she said, you need help. I'm going to help you.
- 37:22Speaker 2: And she's one of those very connected people that makes
- 37:25Speaker 2: a phone call and makes things happen. And she made
- 37:27Speaker 2: a phone call on that night. There's this knock on
- 37:29Speaker 2: my door and it's this baby nurse, which I'd never
- 37:32Speaker 2: had like one of those night nannies.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I never did either.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Yeah. And I just.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Which by the way, I'm like, if you can afford
- 37:39Speaker 4: it or if you're looking to give someone a gift.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Or something.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Life changing.
- 37:44Speaker 4: Even if it's going to be like every other night
- 37:46Speaker 4: they come or something.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I think that is so great.
- 37:50Speaker 2: And I had been so like, I'm not snobby about it,
- 37:53Speaker 2: but it's like, you know, that You meet people in
- 37:56Speaker 2: this business where it's like their entire parenting experience is outsourced.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Yes.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And you're like, I'm not going to be that woman yet.
- 38:01Speaker 2: I don't want to be that person. And so I'd
- 38:02Speaker 2: always been really like, no, I'm going to sit up
- 38:05Speaker 2: with my babies every night. And I did it with Marcello.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I did it with Rocco. Nico, I wasn't even able
- 38:10Speaker 2: to parent the other two during the day because I
- 38:12Speaker 2: was like so depressed, so tired. And then this angel
- 38:16Speaker 2: shows up and suddenly I just handed her the baby
- 38:21Speaker 2: and I went to sleep. And Tully... that was based
- 38:24Speaker 2: on this experience of like, what if somebody could just
- 38:28Speaker 2: help you?
- 38:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I thought that was, I think it was great.
- 38:33Speaker 2: So that was, that was a wild time.
- 38:35Speaker 4: So now you've just, you've got these three kids, three boys,
- 38:38Speaker 4: they're older, you're divorced.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Are you dating?
- 38:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:42Speaker 2: I've had a boyfriend for almost three and a half years.
- 38:44Speaker 1: We've been together. Oh, how nice.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:46Speaker 1: And everybody gets along.
- 38:47Speaker 2: I love that. I'm not going to knock the table
- 38:50Speaker 2: because I've been advised not to do that, but usually
- 38:52Speaker 2: I'm a wood knocker.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Yes.
- 38:54Speaker 2: And I am very, very fortunate for the extended sort
- 38:57Speaker 2: of blended family unit that I have going on.
- 38:58Speaker 1: I love that.
- 38:59Speaker 4: That is so nice because it's so rare. It's more
- 39:03Speaker 4: rare than normal.
- 39:04Speaker 2: It is. I wish it was less rare because it
- 39:08Speaker 2: really is nice when it works, especially for the kids.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 4: So let's talk a little bit about the Oscars. What
- 39:13Speaker 4: did you think of the Barbie snub?
- 39:15Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. Like- If you told me I
- 39:19Speaker 2: could write a movie that would make a billion dollars worldwide,
- 39:23Speaker 2: but you said I had to trade in my Oscar
- 39:25Speaker 2: for that, I would do it so fast that you
- 39:27Speaker 2: don't like. I basically I'm saying Barbie already won in
- 39:31Speaker 2: my book because I think that to me having a
- 39:34Speaker 2: movie that is that powerful that successful like a topic
- 39:38Speaker 2: of conversation for like a freaking year. Like, I think
- 39:42Speaker 2: that's better than an Oscar nominee. Plus, plus Margot and
- 39:46Speaker 2: Greta both got nominated for as producers. They got nominated
- 39:49Speaker 2: as producers. Greta got nominated for writing. And like, I obviously,
- 39:52Speaker 2: I think she deserved to be nominated for best director.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And I think Margot should have been nominated for best actress,
- 39:57Speaker 2: but they're fine.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Well, I think, um, I like to make lemonade out
- 40:03Speaker 4: of lemons often. And I think it's, like poetic justice,
- 40:09Speaker 4: it's almost like a gift that they got a little snubbed.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Because it was like, yeah, this is what it is.
- 40:17Speaker 1: This is what the movie is about.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Like it's just... Like it's almost perfect.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Like had they also brought in.
- 40:21Speaker 2: It's part of their marketing campaign to get snubbed.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it almost like... Like it literally almost like works.
- 40:27Speaker 4: people to be more behind the movie and more like, girl,
- 40:31Speaker 4: you know, that next movie is going to even be
- 40:34Speaker 4: bigger and better.
- 40:35Speaker 1: And you're right. They still get to go.
- 40:37Speaker 4: They still get the accolades and all of that. But
- 40:40Speaker 4: the other thing I was going to say, but you
- 40:42Speaker 4: do get to vote, right? As a winner, you get
- 40:44Speaker 4: to vote?
- 40:45Speaker 2: I get to vote in the writer's branch. Oh, okay.
- 40:49Speaker 1: You only get to vote for the writing ones?
- 40:51Speaker 2: I don't get to vote for best director, no. I
- 40:53Speaker 2: don't think I do. Okay, I'll be honest with you.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I did not vote this year because I didn't see everything.
- 40:58Speaker 2: And also I'm late on my dues. Like I'm not
- 41:02Speaker 2: eligible to vote right now. And I just got to
- 41:04Speaker 2: be real.
- 41:05Speaker 1: So how does it work? Who does the nomination?
- 41:08Speaker 4: How many people are in charge of nominating who these
- 41:11Speaker 4: five people are?
- 41:12Speaker 1: Do you know that answer?
- 41:13Speaker 2: I know.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Where is your Oscar?
- 41:17Speaker 4: Do you even deserve to have this, knowing no answers?
- 41:20Speaker 1: No, just kidding. Where is it?
- 41:23Speaker 2: I mean, the answer is no.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:25Speaker 2: So I have my Oscar and my Tony, because I'm
- 41:29Speaker 2: hoping to build the EGOT eventually.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 41:33Speaker 2: I don't know if that will happen.
- 41:34Speaker 1: It rarely does.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I have them out on just like a nice little
- 41:38Speaker 2: sort of console table in my living room.
- 41:40Speaker 1: But you've had television series.
- 41:43Speaker 2: I have, but I've never won an Emmy or anything.
- 41:45Speaker 1: But you could.
- 41:46Speaker 2: I could try.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Now we, we liked, you're still a fan of The Bachelor.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Always was.
- 41:53Speaker 2: There's certain seasons I've skipped.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Wasn't there also a Bachelor like after show that you
- 41:59Speaker 4: were on?
- 42:00Speaker 2: I was on.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Like you and Kris Jenner were on it all the time.
- 42:02Speaker 2: And it was like, yes. I used to be like
- 42:07Speaker 2: a more committed member of Bachelor Nation. I would do
- 42:09Speaker 2: like the after shows and stuff. Me too.
- 42:10Speaker 4: I used to cover it on, on Juicy Scoop and everything.
- 42:14Speaker 4: And I, I did sort of start to... You know what?
- 42:17Speaker 1: I think I.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Much like Chris Harrison got a little... You know, I mean,
- 42:22Speaker 4: there's a reason why he got the boot, which is stupid.
- 42:24Speaker 1: But, like, what happened, I was like, well, he's a
- 42:27Speaker 1: little old. He's no longer the wingman.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Like, when it started a million years ago, he was
- 42:33Speaker 4: the same age as that first Michael Michelle or whatever
- 42:36Speaker 4: his name was.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Alex Michelle. Alex Michelle. The first Bachelor.
- 42:39Speaker 1: They were like buddies. Like, it was the same age.
- 42:42Speaker 1: And then I was like, you know.
- 42:44Speaker 4: as time goes on, I think that the host should
- 42:47Speaker 4: be some, you know, because it was like, she'd come
- 42:49Speaker 4: out there towards the end and the girls would have
- 42:51Speaker 4: no makeup on and they look like they're about 12,
- 42:54Speaker 4: you know, even though they're like 22 or something. And
- 42:56Speaker 4: he'd be like, so girls, overnight's her tomorrow.
- 42:59Speaker 1: And I was like, ugh. Like, I was just kind
- 43:01Speaker 1: of like, okay, maybe this is a little.
- 43:03Speaker 4: So, I think, you know, I think, and I was
- 43:07Speaker 4: just on Caitlin Bristow's show.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Am I too old to be on this? Is that
- 43:11Speaker 2: what you're saying?
- 43:11Speaker 3: No.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 43:12Speaker 4: I think, I think that, I'll tell you really quite honestly,
- 43:17Speaker 4: they stopped having douchey frat guys on, and that's my type.
- 43:23Speaker 4: And I stopped being attracted. They were too, like, artsy-fartsy
- 43:28Speaker 4: for me. And I liked a douchey frat. And then also,
- 43:32Speaker 4: I think they're just too young. Like, now I'm just like, oh,
- 43:34Speaker 4: my God. Like, 24, 25 is, like, there were times
- 43:38Speaker 4: when The Bachelor was, like, 35 and, like, owned bars.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Remember that one guy? Like, they were a little bit older.
- 43:43Speaker 2: That's why I love Nick Biles, because he's, like, he
- 43:45Speaker 2: was always, like, the older dude in the group.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 43:48Speaker 1: And now, and they had, sometimes they had money. Now
- 43:50Speaker 1: it's just, like, you're the runner-up.
- 43:53Speaker 4: So it was, like, originally it was, like, They picked
- 43:56Speaker 4: that Bachelor because– Alex Michelle because he had money and everything.
- 44:01Speaker 2: But now it's just who was the fan favorite from
- 44:03Speaker 2: the prior season.
- 44:03Speaker 1: He never got married. I don't think.
- 44:06Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
- 44:06Speaker 1: No one could probably correct me.
- 44:08Speaker 2: So he truly– he manifested being the Bachelor.
- 44:11Speaker 1: I think– I always thought he seemed kind of gay.
- 44:14Speaker 1: But not that that matters.
- 44:15Speaker 4: But I don't know. I mean, certainly would have come
- 44:18Speaker 4: out now. I mean, the other guy did come out.
- 44:20Speaker 6: He did.
- 44:20Speaker 1: And got married. Yeah.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I just watched the premiere of the new
- 44:25Speaker 2: season of The Bachelor the other night, and I have
- 44:27Speaker 2: to say it skews incredibly young this season because The
- 44:30Speaker 2: Bachelor himself's in his 20s. And the girls are like 23, 24.
- 44:33Speaker 4: Yes, it's all too young for me. So when I
- 44:36Speaker 4: did the show, I was Katie. It was a bachelorette,
- 44:40Speaker 4: and I was facilitating a date.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Oh, I remember this.
- 44:45Speaker 1: And I was just like, these guys.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Were just, you know, of course I was only like
- 44:50Speaker 4: into talking to like one of them that was like,
- 44:53Speaker 4: turned out to be the biggest dick but like he
- 44:55Speaker 4: was like dark hair and darker skin I don't know
- 44:59Speaker 4: and he was I can't remember his name but he
- 45:01Speaker 4: was really tall and he was really like charming like
- 45:04Speaker 4: I was helping him.
- 45:04Speaker 1: With like his skit or whatever and he was like like.
- 45:07Speaker 4: I was feeling it yeah I was feeling it like
- 45:10Speaker 4: and I was like okay but I do think that
- 45:12Speaker 4: yeah I just sort of but I could get back
- 45:14Speaker 4: into it and then I started to watch The Bachelor
- 45:17Speaker 4: The Golden Bachelor and then I came across this guy
- 45:20Speaker 4: on TikTok That did such a good impression of Jerry.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Oh, I saw him. It's incredible.
- 45:26Speaker 1: And he was like, oh, you make me feel so special.
- 45:30Speaker 2: That's so special.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I was dying laughing.
- 45:34Speaker 2: No, that is a solid impression that he has.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Do you think that Jerry was.
- 45:40Speaker 4: into Teresa you perked up when you realized how much
- 45:43Speaker 4: money she.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Had it was so obvious I'm sorry like I don't
- 45:46Speaker 2: want to talk trash about them I wish them all
- 45:48Speaker 2: the happiness because they are now married but it was
- 45:50Speaker 2: so obvious to me that his whole vibe changed when
- 45:52Speaker 2: he found out that she was successful.
- 45:54Speaker 1: And lived in North Carolina and had her home and.
- 45:56Speaker 2: They always say old guys want a nurse in a
- 45:58Speaker 2: purse oh that's the saying they want a woman who
- 46:02Speaker 2: can take care of him as he ages and money.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Okay, I've heard that expression, but I've heard it differently.
- 46:06Speaker 2: What have you heard?
- 46:07Speaker 4: I've heard a woman say, I don't want to be
- 46:10Speaker 4: a nurse or a purse. I don't want to be
- 46:12Speaker 4: a nurse for an old fart, and I don't want
- 46:13Speaker 4: to be a purse for a young buck.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Oh, we'll see. You could also wind up being a
- 46:18Speaker 2: nurse and a purse to an old guy, which would
- 46:19Speaker 2: be the worst of both worlds.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Right.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I'm happy to be a purse for a hot young man.
- 46:25Speaker 4: I know my friend's mother, who was incredible looking. She
- 46:30Speaker 4: was not a stranger to the plastic surgery, but she
- 46:33Speaker 4: was always petite. always had like a nice ass and
- 46:36Speaker 4: like just really good body. Anyway, she meets this guy
- 46:39Speaker 4: at the gym and he keeps asking her out. And
- 46:43Speaker 4: she's like, do you know how old I am? And
- 46:45Speaker 4: he is like 52 and she's like 70. And he
- 46:49Speaker 4: was like, aren't you like 52 or something? Like, aren't
- 46:52Speaker 4: you like my age? And she's like, no, and he
- 46:54Speaker 4: won't stop. And she's got grandkids and she's married and everything.
- 46:58Speaker 4: And so they get married and he goes on a
- 47:02Speaker 4: bike ride and he gets in an accident and So
- 47:05Speaker 4: now she's... She was the nurse in the purse.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 47:09Speaker 1: And then when he recovered, then they got divorced.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I mean, those are scary stories.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Well, you never know.
- 47:15Speaker 4: I'm saying, like, everyone thought, oh, my God, how is
- 47:18Speaker 4: he going to marry.
- 47:18Speaker 1: This woman and she's going to be in a wheelchair?
- 47:20Speaker 1: And it was like, no, it's the opposite. So you
- 47:22Speaker 1: never know.
- 47:23Speaker 4: Like, there's no guarantee of, like, marrying someone old and
- 47:27Speaker 4: rich or marrying someone rich that they're going to stay
- 47:29Speaker 4: rich or marrying someone.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Young that she's going to stay hot.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Like, there's no.
- 47:34Speaker 4: So if you like someone, you like someone, just be
- 47:38Speaker 4: happy that you guys have something to talk about at dinner.
- 47:40Speaker 2: That's, I agree with you completely.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:41Speaker 2: And I also feel the same way when people are like,
- 47:43Speaker 2: how can someone have a baby when they're 45? Because
- 47:46Speaker 2: they're going to, and it's like, you don't know what's
- 47:47Speaker 2: going to happen to anyone.
- 47:48Speaker 6: Right.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Like you could have a baby when you're 21 and
- 47:50Speaker 2: something bad can happen. Like, you know what I mean?
- 47:51Speaker 2: It's just like, we have no clue what happens in life.
- 47:53Speaker 2: So like, let's just roll the dice and have fun.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Or when someone's like, like I saw this girl, like,
- 47:58Speaker 4: and she was like, I'm an old mom or whatever,
- 48:00Speaker 4: and she's holding a baby.
- 48:01Speaker 1: She's like, I'm going to be at a high school
- 48:02Speaker 1: graduation at 60. So what? Who cares?
- 48:05Speaker 2: That's what I say.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Like, is 60 old? 60's not old if you take
- 48:09Speaker 4: care of yourself. Like, what are you talking about? You
- 48:11Speaker 4: could be at a high school graduation at 60.
- 48:13Speaker 1: That is not... You could be at a high school
- 48:14Speaker 1: graduation for your 18-year-old when you're 70. It's not.
- 48:17Speaker 2: This is what I say. Yeah. Because, like, obviously, I
- 48:19Speaker 2: have no... I'm done having children, so this is not
- 48:21Speaker 2: me personally. But when I have friends who are my
- 48:23Speaker 2: age or older and are like, should I have... I'm like, yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 2: why not?
- 48:27Speaker 1: Yeah, like, exactly.
- 48:28Speaker 2: It's kind of chic, to be honest. It's like a
- 48:30Speaker 2: celebrity thing to do.
- 48:31Speaker 4: And then when people are like, oh, but look at
- 48:32Speaker 4: the world today. I'm always like, The world's been shit forever.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:36Speaker 4: I'm like, people were still having babies during World War II.
- 48:38Speaker 4: People were having babies after Vietnam. People were having babies
- 48:41Speaker 4: when there was no gas.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 4: And, I mean, my mom said she was at the
- 48:45Speaker 4: grocery store with the five kids and this woman walked
- 48:47Speaker 4: up to her and said, how dare you overpopulate the
- 48:49Speaker 4: world like this? I mean... And that's what people thought.
- 48:54Speaker 4: People thought we were going to be overpopulated. That people
- 48:58Speaker 4: like my mom... you know, having five kids was like
- 49:01Speaker 4: ruining the environment.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I mean, there's a lot of people who still imagine
- 49:05Speaker 2: if there was no Heather. As long as you don't
- 49:07Speaker 2: have a private jet, you're fine.
- 49:09Speaker 6: I know.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Imagine.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 49:10Speaker 1: No, but it's like, it's just so dumb.
- 49:13Speaker 4: So I'm like, no, if, if, if you, if your
- 49:16Speaker 4: desire on this earth is to be a mother or
- 49:19Speaker 4: a father, go for it.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Whatever means it takes. That's your right. That's I mean,
- 49:24Speaker 1: I don't think about that.
- 49:26Speaker 4: The world is ending and you just go be friends
- 49:28Speaker 4: with Jeff Bezos and or Mark Zuckerberg and get swim
- 49:33Speaker 4: down to the cave living.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I need to live in Mark Zuckerberg's bunker that
- 49:37Speaker 2: he's building in Hawaii.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Make some friends with that lady. Try to find out
- 49:42Speaker 1: what school they're at.
- 49:43Speaker 2: I need to figure that out. Yeah, what school?
- 49:46Speaker 5: Hi.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Want to work on the committee together? Okay, so you
- 49:51Speaker 1: started to watch The Bachelor. Are you into it?
- 49:54Speaker 2: I'm into it, but it is harder to relate to.
- 49:56Speaker 2: I keep getting older. They keep getting younger.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Did you like The Golden Bachelor? I got a little bored.
- 50:03Speaker 1: You loved it?
- 50:04Speaker 2: Okay, so I do think it fell off a little
- 50:05Speaker 2: bit as the season went on, but I did– I
- 50:08Speaker 2: did love it. And the reason I loved it is
- 50:10Speaker 2: because it was the first time in many years that
- 50:13Speaker 2: we had seen a cast of people who weren't all
- 50:17Speaker 2: trying to become influencers, who weren't like they were just
- 50:20Speaker 2: they were truly looking for companionship. So there was a
- 50:22Speaker 2: sincerity to it that you don't see with the younger folks.
- 50:26Speaker 4: And what I loved is the women like really kind
- 50:29Speaker 4: of became friends and everything. And I'm like, yeah, this
- 50:32Speaker 4: is great. Like you guys all have You're all older,
- 50:34Speaker 4: but you're still fit. Like you can all go to
- 50:36Speaker 4: Europe together. Go to your Malfi Coast this summer. You
- 50:39Speaker 4: found a bunch of women that are single. That's like
- 50:41Speaker 4: a dream come true.
- 50:42Speaker 2: I said when before the show aired, I said I
- 50:44Speaker 2: would not be surprised if a group of the women
- 50:46Speaker 2: wind up just walking off together.
- 50:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Because these are older women who are like no bullshit. Right.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Like are not going to like stand for shit. And, like,
- 50:54Speaker 2: they're all going to like each other and they're all
- 50:55Speaker 2: going to be like, you know what? Fuck this guy. Yeah, like,
- 50:57Speaker 2: who cares? Like, I'm surprised it didn't happen.
- 51:00Speaker 4: And then I, did they ever say is there going
- 51:02Speaker 4: to be a golden, golden bachelorette?
- 51:04Speaker 2: So here's the thing.
- 51:05Speaker 1: They are trying.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Some inside scoop? I wish I had, like, the full, like,
- 51:08Speaker 2: Mike Fly scoop. But, like, they're trying to, but it's
- 51:11Speaker 2: difficult to find a bunch of guys that aren't, like, because.
- 51:16Speaker 1: The nurse of the purse.
- 51:17Speaker 2: The nurse of the purse. Or, like, honestly, a lot
- 51:19Speaker 2: of these, a lot of old dudes who are, like,
- 51:21Speaker 2: great on paper want to be with, like. Way younger women.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Totally.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Which is, you know, sad.
- 51:29Speaker 1: But reality.
- 51:30Speaker 4: I kind of think you got to do it a
- 51:33Speaker 4: little bit all around. Like you did it in the,
- 51:37Speaker 4: they had to be over 60. Because I guess somebody
- 51:40Speaker 4: I know, oh, my friend who lives in Phoenix, she
- 51:42Speaker 4: had a friend who went out for it. And according
- 51:45Speaker 4: to her, they said, no, the women have to be
- 51:47Speaker 4: over 60, at least 60 for that, for the Golden Bachelor.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Because you're 72. So they didn't want women in their 50s.
- 51:53Speaker 4: But I think you do it more like the 55-ish range.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Because then if you find like a woman who is
- 52:03Speaker 4: like maybe 55, but like fit and her kids are
- 52:06Speaker 4: grown and everything, then she could skew both ways.
- 52:10Speaker 5: Oh, right.
- 52:11Speaker 2: So we could have older guys and younger guys.
- 52:12Speaker 4: Like if she's like a young, youthful 55 and she's banging,
- 52:15Speaker 4: which there's tons of them around.
- 52:17Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not too far off.
- 52:19Speaker 4: And so I'm like, there's tons of them around.
- 52:21Speaker 1: They exist.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Right. Yeah.
- 52:22Speaker 4: And but so she could date like a guy who's
- 52:25Speaker 4: like 65, but she could also date like a 48
- 52:28Speaker 4: year old and it would not be weird.
- 52:29Speaker 2: It's a good idea. But here's what I'll tell you.
- 52:31Speaker 2: The discourse around this would be so negative because people
- 52:34Speaker 2: would go, how come the golden bachelor gets to be
- 52:36Speaker 2: 72 or however old Gary is? But why does the
- 52:39Speaker 2: golden bachelorette have to be 55? We need to call
- 52:42Speaker 2: it something not the golden bachelorette.
- 52:45Speaker 1: We need to create. You know how there's like cougars. Yeah,
- 52:49Speaker 1: like a cougar.
- 52:49Speaker 4: There's cougars and there's pumas. Like there's got to be
- 52:52Speaker 4: a name. I guess it's Gray Cougar, which doesn't sound good.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Gray Puma. No. But yeah, you're right. It's a hard thing.
- 53:00Speaker 1: And who cares?
- 53:02Speaker 4: What do you think of Travis and Taylor? Do you
- 53:05Speaker 4: think they're going to get married?
- 53:06Speaker 2: I do. I have been calling this from the beginning.
- 53:08Speaker 1: So have I.
- 53:09Speaker 2: Because first of all, like she's at that exact stage
- 53:12Speaker 2: of her 30s where you're just like, let's do this.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 53:16Speaker 2: I think that she is, first, I am a Swifty.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Who isn't?
- 53:20Speaker 2: She's great. Who isn't? I love them together.
- 53:23Speaker 1: She's a good friend.
- 53:24Speaker 2: She's getting to cosplay as a normie in a way
- 53:28Speaker 2: that I think is thrilling for her. She's hanging out
- 53:30Speaker 2: in Kansas City with people. Do you know what I mean?
- 53:36Speaker 2: She's just getting to have an experience that I don't
- 53:38Speaker 2: think she got to have because she spent her teens there.
- 53:42Speaker 2: you know, building this career.
- 53:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:44Speaker 2: And I think now she's getting to be the, like,
- 53:46Speaker 2: girlfriend at the stands with, like, the football player boy.
- 53:50Speaker 2: I just think it's, like, I think she's happy.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Now, I followed Taylor's career as well. I like her
- 53:56Speaker 4: music just like anybody else, but I'm not hardcore Swifty.
- 53:59Speaker 1: But what I love about Taylor is so much.
- 54:04Speaker 4: But, you know, she's a super talented, good girl, thanking
- 54:09Speaker 4: her mother when she won her first award.
- 54:12Speaker 1: But she's kind of a geek. In the express. She's
- 54:16Speaker 1: kind of a geek. But she was a talented, pretty geek.
- 54:21Speaker 4: So the people around her when she was coming up
- 54:24Speaker 4: in high school were fucking assholes to her. They were
- 54:27Speaker 4: really mean. And they mocked her because they were jealous bitches.
- 54:31Speaker 4: And she kind of knew that. And there's some classics,
- 54:34Speaker 4: there's some urban myth story or something where, like, she
- 54:40Speaker 4: knew it and she like invited everybody to something. Like
- 54:43Speaker 4: she knew that these people in high school were like
- 54:47Speaker 4: dicks about it, even though she was like on and
- 54:50Speaker 4: winning and everything.
- 54:51Speaker 1: So then now after the.
- 54:53Speaker 4: Kanye thing that really fucked with her brain and everything
- 54:56Speaker 4: and really like everyone hated her and Kim made it
- 54:59Speaker 4: seem like she lied when she didn't. And she was like,
- 55:02Speaker 4: I have the proof and everything. And she went away
- 55:04Speaker 4: for a year and then she comes back stronger than ever.
- 55:07Speaker 4: And everybody just realizes that like she totally is a
- 55:10Speaker 4: girl who supports women, isn't jealous, is a heart, like
- 55:14Speaker 4: has her girls with her, celebrates women, gives them a
- 55:19Speaker 4: way for them to shine too. Like she's just so great.
- 55:23Speaker 4: And yeah, now she gets to be with this cute,
- 55:25Speaker 4: normal guy who has, you know, that everyone likes, who's
- 55:29Speaker 4: super talented. And And I said the same thing as you. Like,
- 55:32Speaker 4: I think she's kind of pragmatic and, like, this is
- 55:35Speaker 4: my time to– this is an appropriate time age-wise to
- 55:40Speaker 4: get married and have kids and stuff.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:43Speaker 1: And I will be heartbroken if it doesn't happen.
- 55:46Speaker 2: So my theory– Yes. Because I really think about this
- 55:48Speaker 2: a lot. Who does? So she's playing– I'm probably going
- 55:51Speaker 2: to ruin it now. I hope they don't see this.
- 55:53Speaker 1: We do predictions all the time. Your predictions can win.
- 55:56Speaker 2: I believe in May that she's going to be playing–
- 55:58Speaker 2: The heiress tour is going to be in Paris. And
- 56:00Speaker 2: I'm like, he's going to do because doesn't he seem
- 56:02Speaker 2: like the kind of guy who does the like Eiffel
- 56:05Speaker 2: Tower proposal? Like he's kind of like basic in a
- 56:07Speaker 2: hot way. Yes. So I think they're going to get
- 56:10Speaker 2: engaged in Paris.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Is there a chance that his team is going to
- 56:15Speaker 1: the Super Bowl?
- 56:17Speaker 2: So if they do, that's going to be tough for
- 56:18Speaker 2: her because she's playing Tokyo. Like I said, this is
- 56:21Speaker 2: my Roman Empire. She is she's going to have to
- 56:24Speaker 2: do a quick. Jaunt from Tokyo to wherever the Super
- 56:27Speaker 2: Bowl is. But like.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Can she make it? Is her show Saturday night?
- 56:30Speaker 2: She can make it. Don't worry. She can make it.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Wait, so is her Tokyo show Saturday?
- 56:33Speaker 2: I believe it is, but she's going to cross the
- 56:34Speaker 2: international date line.
- 56:35Speaker 1: What does that mean? You gain the hours back?
- 56:38Speaker 2: It means like you like get the day back or something.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Oh, okay, okay.
- 56:41Speaker 2: I'm a moron. Okay, let's just be real about this.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Okay, so she comes and she goes to the game. Yeah.
- 56:45Speaker 1: But she's going to make it. But if they win,
- 56:47Speaker 1: it won't be then because.
- 56:49Speaker 4: That that's she's not going to want to step on
- 56:51Speaker 4: that moment.
- 56:52Speaker 1: He's not. So I agree with you on that.
- 56:54Speaker 2: They won't get engaged at the Super Bowl.
- 56:56Speaker 3: No.
- 56:56Speaker 2: OK, I'm saying I'm I'm thinking Paris. But like, I
- 57:01Speaker 2: don't know. I also thought they were going to get
- 57:02Speaker 2: engaged at her birthday. And I was wrong about that.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Maybe that was too soon.
- 57:05Speaker 4: I like her idea of the May because I feel
- 57:08Speaker 4: like won't that be almost like almost a year of dating,
- 57:14Speaker 4: which is also appropriate.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I mean, you know, they're on that accelerated
- 57:18Speaker 2: 30s timeline.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:19Speaker 2: But I think that that could be.
- 57:22Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 57:22Speaker 2: I don't want to be this invested, but like.
- 57:27Speaker 4: I always when people didn't think it was real, I
- 57:29Speaker 4: was like, no, I totally think it's real.
- 57:31Speaker 1: I think it's so cute.
- 57:33Speaker 6: And.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I just love it.
- 57:36Speaker 2: I have a question for you about, though, that is
- 57:38Speaker 2: it real of it all? Yes. I find that. people,
- 57:43Speaker 2: the sort of general public discourse about relationships with celebrities
- 57:46Speaker 2: is people are always like, this is fake, this is fake,
- 57:48Speaker 2: this is for publicity.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Because they don't want people to be happy.
- 57:50Speaker 2: But I don't think it ever is. Like, I personally,
- 57:53Speaker 2: I've been in this business for 20 years now.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 57:55Speaker 2: I've never known anyone in a publicity relationship.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 57:59Speaker 2: Nor have I ever gotten any inside scoop on a
- 58:03Speaker 2: relationship being fake. So I'm kind of thinking that maybe
- 58:05Speaker 2: that doesn't happen, but maybe I'm naive and I'm being
- 58:08Speaker 2: left out of that whole conversation.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 58:11Speaker 2: Like, do you, Heather? Do you know anyone who's been
- 58:12Speaker 2: in a relationship that was fake?
- 58:13Speaker 1: I can't remember now who this couple was, but... Oh, fuck.
- 58:18Speaker 1: But they would go out a lot.
- 58:19Speaker 4: They'd be in paparazzi, and the walks looked like it
- 58:23Speaker 4: was fake, and they were young. Like, I can't remember
- 58:26Speaker 4: who they were. And now I can't remember if it
- 58:28Speaker 4: ever stuck.
- 58:30Speaker 1: It was... Yeah, you're right. I think every... Well, I
- 58:38Speaker 1: did kind of wonder about the Kylie and the Timothy.
- 58:40Speaker 2: I mean, that seems real to me.
- 58:44Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 58:44Speaker 2: They're cute.
- 58:45Speaker 4: I mean, I just also think in this day and age,
- 58:47Speaker 4: who's faking? Why fake it? Like, what are you gaining?
- 58:52Speaker 1: I mean, does anyone really need like a beard anymore
- 58:55Speaker 1: or whatever? Like, who cares?
- 58:57Speaker 4: So I don't know what the point of that would be.
- 59:01Speaker 4: But in the beginning of the Kylie and Timothy, it
- 59:03Speaker 4: just seemed weird.
- 59:04Speaker 1: It seemed like.
- 59:05Speaker 2: But they were being so private about it. I feel
- 59:07Speaker 2: like if it had been for publicity, they would have been.
- 59:10Speaker 2: doing pop strolls and.
- 59:11Speaker 4: Stuff yeah and also it's just so not well we
- 59:15Speaker 4: think we know her type but she's young not everybody
- 59:18Speaker 4: has a type obviously so she went from like this
- 59:21Speaker 4: hardcore rapper to like this you know artsy thin boy
- 59:25Speaker 4: so it's like I think people were like but you know.
- 59:29Speaker 2: The heart wants what it wants.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, that'd be pretty amazing if they really.
- 59:34Speaker 2: If they went the distance.
- 59:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 59:36Speaker 1: That would be cute. And he's like a stepdad to
- 59:38Speaker 1: the kids and everything.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Are you friends with Kris Jenner?
- 59:40Speaker 1: I mean, I'm friendly.
- 59:41Speaker 4: I've always been friendly with her, but I certainly am
- 59:44Speaker 4: not calling her and asking her about Timothy.
- 59:47Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying she must be psyched because this
- 59:49Speaker 2: is really, they're leveling up.
- 59:51Speaker 4: I mean, I think she's happy. She is the most
- 59:54Speaker 4: supportive person. Of everybody probably too supportive of the men
- 59:59Speaker 4: in the lives.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Yeah, she's making like a stocking for Tristan and stuff.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Yes, I remember like.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: I'd put his stocking in the street and run over
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: it with my car.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: I remember going to a dinner years ago and Lamar
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: and Chloe, if they weren't getting divorced yet, he had
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: been caught with women and they were broken up and everything.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: And she had like a dinner for her birthday at
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: her house, Tristan. And Lamar shows up. with, you know,
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: some designer box, some fancy purse. And she was like, oh, Lamar.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: And they sit down and, you know, he's just like
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: pouring his heart out to her and she's being so sweet.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: And I think she was always, you know, I thought, well,
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: he doesn't have parents, Lamar. So I think she was
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: always like a mother figure. She was a mother figure.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: Scott's parents both died very young when he was very young.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: I mean, when he was, you know, whatever, like 10
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: years ago, they passed. So she was always, for him
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: being like, I'm not going to let this right relationship end.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Then the Tristan, everyone's too nice about the Tristan. Yeah,
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: so she's- The Kanye, though, I think she's been like- Yeah.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: She's like, yeah, she's not- Once he started calling her
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Kris Jong-un on Twitter, I think that might have been
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: the breaking point for Kris Jenner.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: And there was that moment where Kim, I guess, wrote
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: and was like, please, my mom is 65 years old.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Can you leave her the fuck alone?
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Like, And then he screenshots that and puts it on
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Instagram to make matters worse. Like, what are you doing, man?
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: When I see, talk about the opposite of what you
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: have in getting along with your ex and raising your
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: kids together. All the money in the world, all the planes,
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: all the perfect bodies, skims, perfect face, you know, muted home, whatever.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: The fact that she has to deal with that fucker
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: For at least, I think the youngest boy, Psalm, couldn't
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: even be three yet.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Or four, max. And then college.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: We're talking for the next 20 years, she's going to
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: have to deal with him. And whatever new weird chick
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: he brings around or what this is, I mean, I
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: think the girl's in on it.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I think she's getting paid. Oh, really? I think she's
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: getting paid.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: And I think this is his weird artsy, and I
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: think it's to mock him.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: I definitely get the vibe that something about it is
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: meant to trigger and mock him for sure, where it's
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: like this person looks like you, but I'm going to
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: put them in submissive situations or something like that.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: And she's younger and she's pretty, very, very pretty.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I really respect him because she refuses to speak negatively
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: about him. And that's got to be challenging.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: I'm like, really, you're going to go to the soccer
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: game and she shows up in a pair of nylons
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: up to her nipples holding a purple pillow. And you
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: have to be like, hey, I got the orange slices together. Like,
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: I mean, just like that is where I'm like, but
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: you know what? They knew he was weird and they
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: all he elevated them first.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: Oh, 100 percent.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Totally elevated them.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: And I feel like they all were like, oh my God,
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: you know, he's such a genius.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: He's so great. He's so generous.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: He was richer than them when they got together. And
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: now Kim's a billionaire. I mean, Kim has, in my opinion,
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: from what I understand, she's got way more money than him.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: And does he even have the ability to get ever
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: back on track?
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Does anyone care?
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: I mean, I almost feel like he's kind of past
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: his prime and then all the awful things that he said,
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: all the, you know, anti-everything that he has said.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Is, I mean, are we going to want his ugly clothes?
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: I remember when the whole family, including Caitlyn, got in,
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: did the fashion show, was wearing like ripped.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Yes, I remember.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Ripped clean. And they're all like, oh, we love it.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Ripped cream clothes. And I mean, it was so the
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: emperor has no clothes. I was like, what is this?
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: I want to believe Kanye has said and done some
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: extremely problematic things. With that aside, I mean, in his
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: in his prime as a musician.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I was such a fan.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: And it's like, I would love to see him make
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: that level of music again. I just don't know if
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: he will.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: But like, remember when he had the church every Sunday
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: like two years ago?
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: And everybody was going, it was at the Forum. And
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: then he was like, Then he was going to have the.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: He was going to start like a cult in Wyoming
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: or something, wasn't he? No, he was going to do Calabasas.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: He was starting something in Calabasas.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: He abandoned that.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Then there was going to be a school. That's been abandoned.
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: Then he was telling her when they were still together,
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: when she was getting ready for the Met and she
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: wore the one outfit that looked like it was wet.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: It was amazing. It was amazing. And he was like, well,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: you're a mother of four. Why are you wearing that?
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: And I remember she was like, I know you're on
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: your like. journey to christ but like uh the thing
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: is tomorrow fucker and you were part of picking this
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: out because he was originally wearing making her wear weird clothes.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Remember that's i think he kind of um i can't
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: i don't want to speculate about someone's mental health but
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: it seems like kanye has episodes of religious psychosis yes
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: then in a couple weeks he'll be total it'll be
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: totally different and he'll you know but i yeah it's
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: it's a tough situation.
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: Yeah um, the movie, Lisa, Lisa Frankenstein. I want to know, like, again,
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: I asked you how you thought of Juno and that's
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Miss being your latest film.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: What made you think of doing this movie?
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: Because it's about a girl who falls in love with
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: this corpse.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: And comes around and it's, it is very dark and
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: it is very funny. And there's some really crazy scenes
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: that you have never seen in any other movie. So like,
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: How did you think of this, like, Frankenstein idea of
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: kind of creating this monster that she then falls in
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: love with?
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: Well, I feel like over the years we've seen so
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: many movies about men creating the perfect woman.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. It's like weird science.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Weird science. Major inspo for this movie. That's why the
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: main character is named Lisa. But there's also, you know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: even just like a My Fair Lady type story, this
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: idea of, like, creating the perfect woman. And I just thought, like,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: who's the perfect man? He can't talk.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: It was, in my mind, I'd had this idea for
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: a teenage girl with an animated, reanimated corpse boyfriend idea
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: for a long time. And then when the pandemic hit
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: in 2020, so right after the show had closed on Broadway,
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: obviously the entire world shuts down. It's a nightmare. We're
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: in this like surreal, dark, alternate timeline all of a sudden.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: And I just, the kids are home from school and
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I thought I need to escape into something. So at
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: night I was writing this movie and I was able
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: to channel kind of all my anxiety into it. And
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: it's a very romantic movie, which was fun for me
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: because I haven't really ever done anything like that. And
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: I just... I love the movie. And it's a love
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: letter to the 80s, which was like my era.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: And is that why you chose to maybe to make
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: it an 80s movie versus today?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Like, how did you think to do it a different era?
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: Well, having a teenager in my home, I see where
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: most of their social interactions live. And that is... On
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: their phones. And I just thought to myself, like, I
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: miss the immediacy of my teen years where it was like,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: you'd meet up somewhere. You didn't really, you just had
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: to trust that the other person was going to be there.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: And like.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: You'd just be like, meet you at the JCPenney's where
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: the bells are.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: And you just, yeah. And you had to find your
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: own entertainment. I know I sound like the most grizzled
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: Gen X part where it's like, we used to ride
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: around in the bed of a pickup truck, which we did.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: But it's like. To me, that's where my deepest feelings
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: of nostalgia live.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: And you know, it was so funny because I was watching,
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: I made my son watch Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: And we loved it. And when he started it, he goes, wait, really?
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: This many people wore jeans all at the same time?
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: I just thought that was a funny thing. He's like,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: now everybody wears just like pajama pants.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: It is weird that kids don't really wear jeans anymore.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: They do. My son has.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Nice jeans, but you're right. They want to wear those
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: like soft joggers.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: But it's just, it was so funny.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: That was his takeaway.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: But he did like the movie.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: I'm sure he did, especially a couple parts.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Yeah. But this is great. I'm so happy.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: And when does the movie come out to be available
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: for everybody to go see?
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: It will be out on February 9th.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Great.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: And in theaters. And the plan beyond that, I should know.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: I really have to get my details straight. But I
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: really hope people go out and enjoy it. And it's
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: like a great Valentine's Day movie. It's PG-13. I love that.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: It's available for many people to see. Not for kids,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: but teenagers, definitely. And yeah, I'm just excited about it.
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: I think it's going to be great. And I think
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: it's like something you could go... with your kids to, too.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: That's what I love.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: It's like, definitely, I love that the Gen X and
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: the Gen Z, there are so many fun things. That
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: you can enjoy together. I like definitely think this is
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: a good one. So go to the movie theater, go
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: to the fancy movie theater or sneak the candy in
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: your purse. Whatever works for you.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Just go see the movie. And where can they follow
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: you on social media?
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: I'm not on social media.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: Oh, you're a real you're like a real person.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: You're like a real actual industry. I love it.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Honestly, I'm just kind of lucky. I'm kind of chicken shit.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I can't deal with the like.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: You're not missing anything.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: I'm not?
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: No. I mean, I have to do it. Sometimes I
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: wish I could take a break.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: I wish it would go away, but it is also
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: really great for what I do.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: I really need it. But I feel like if you don't,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: you are not missing out.
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: I do. I am on TikTok, but I don't post.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: I'm Diablo Cody on TikTok, so follow me if you want,
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: but I'm not going to be posting anything.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: But you can look at it and everything, but there
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: is something nice about not seeing all the immediate responses
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: to something you do every day.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: No, it's scary.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: If you don't need to do it for your business,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I say don't. Well, thank you so much.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: So fun.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: No, this was a blast. I really appreciate it.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Oh, I loved it.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Thanks.
