- 0:00Speaker 1: It's been a pretty heavy morning, but I always love
- 0:04Speaker 1: talking sport. And apparently after a thrilling vote count for
- 0:07Speaker 1: both the t I O N TfL Men's and Women's
- 0:10Speaker 1: Premier League Best and Fairest Awards, where we now know
- 0:13Speaker 1: that the Palmerston Magpies Eric Guthrie and Nightcliff's Daniel Bowles.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I do apologize Danielle or I may have pronounced that wrong.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We're announced as a joint Nick Nichols recipients overnight. Now
- 0:28Speaker 1: joining me on the line right now to tell us
- 0:31Speaker 1: a little bit more is Sam gives good morning to you.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Sam, morning Katie. Thanks having me.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Oh mate, sorry, I'm getting a bit mixed up there
- 0:40Speaker 1: with my words because it has been such a busy morning.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Tell us about the vote count.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You got the pronunciation right, I'll just there. But thrilling,
- 0:53Speaker 2: thrilling side count last night. So Eric and Daniel joint
- 0:58Speaker 2: winners come down to the last round. I think it
- 1:02Speaker 2: was it was a couple of players that could win
- 1:04Speaker 2: it during the last round and they were the joint
- 1:08Speaker 2: recipients and Eric's the first Palmstan players for for ovate
- 1:11Speaker 2: thirty years and Daniel from Nycliffe both either one or
- 1:17Speaker 2: tied in winning for the last five years. That shows
- 1:19Speaker 2: their dominance. And and over on the women's side, Molly
- 1:23Speaker 2: old House from the Buffets, she she kept off a
- 1:28Speaker 2: pretty amazing year for her really winning the Gwinn medal
- 1:31Speaker 2: and again came down to the last round. So yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 2: two thrilling through thrilling counts.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Oh, how fantastic.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And I would imagine that it was all pretty exciting
- 1:40Speaker 1: in the room.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Well, it was a virtual event this yuk it was.
- 1:47Speaker 2: It was we had to we had to take it virtually.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It really was to protect the Grand Final, which is
- 1:54Speaker 2: six days later. That the prospect of either people contracting
- 1:59Speaker 2: the viral I saw becoming KIST contacts wasn't one that
- 2:04Speaker 2: I and our clubs wanted to face, and so we
- 2:08Speaker 2: took a virtual and look, the positive was that usually
- 2:12Speaker 2: if you have the event face to face, you'll have
- 2:14Speaker 2: three hundred to four hundred people there, and we're able
- 2:18Speaker 2: to take the virtual events to a couple of thousands.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So look, we look forward to next year. But no,
- 2:24Speaker 2: but really good events and yeah, great camp.
- 2:27Speaker 3: And it's one of those things.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It's really difficult, and it certainly has been so difficult
- 2:32Speaker 1: in these COVID times. And you know, as soon as I.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Said that, I thought to myself, I bet you it
- 2:37Speaker 4: ended up being being virtual this year, which you can
- 2:40Speaker 4: understand given given the COVID cases that we've had over
- 2:44Speaker 4: the last couple of months.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Now talk us through with these winners.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I know that the Darwin Buffett Molly old House she's
- 2:51Speaker 1: only nineteen years old, Yeah she is.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And look she she also won Best on Grant in
- 2:57Speaker 2: the NTFL res game against Agree with West Tyron's earlier
- 3:01Speaker 2: in the year. So very impressive young player Molly and
- 3:06Speaker 2: a popular winner. And you know she's she's versatile. I
- 3:10Speaker 2: think that's that was her key attribute. She plays all
- 3:12Speaker 2: over the ground and a big, big reason why they
- 3:16Speaker 2: they'll probably start favorites in a Grand final on Saturday.
- 3:19Speaker 3: How wonderful.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And of course it's not just the Nichols Medal that
- 3:22Speaker 1: was awarded or the Gwynn Medal.
- 3:24Speaker 3: There were plenty of other awards as well.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, look, it's it's a big night. It celebrates I
- 3:32Speaker 2: guess everything that happens across community football. So we've got
- 3:35Speaker 2: rising star winners, Clubs of the Year and goal kickers
- 3:40Speaker 2: and it's a big night. And and look again, quite
- 3:44Speaker 2: a good spread across clubs. It shows the uniformity I
- 3:48Speaker 2: guess across clubs and how you know every club has
- 3:51Speaker 2: people you know they're excelling at the moment and and
- 3:55Speaker 2: you know so the rising stars Lloyd Johnston from Wanderers
- 3:58Speaker 2: and Annabelle keep it as well. So from from Wartals.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I mean there are two prospects that you know have
- 4:05Speaker 2: been looked at nationally. So you know, a really really
- 4:08Speaker 2: good way to capture individual awards, you know, a week
- 4:13Speaker 2: out prior to prior to the Grand Finals on Saturday.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll tell you what excitement is building around the
- 4:19Speaker 1: Grand Final on Saturday.
- 4:20Speaker 3: It was a massive weekend.
- 4:22Speaker 1: The just well just passed, not only last night obviously
- 4:26Speaker 1: with the awards, but with those finals or the semis
- 4:30Speaker 1: on Saturday.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a big, big crowd on Saturday and
- 4:36Speaker 2: obviously the men's the Grand Final rematch St Mary's and
- 4:39Speaker 2: Nightcliffe and look we've got we've got Saint Mary's and
- 4:42Speaker 2: Warika and the Grand Final which is going to be
- 4:45Speaker 2: massive Grand Final. Obviously I haven't been there, have won
- 4:49Speaker 2: one for quite a while and they're playing great football
- 4:52Speaker 2: and Saint Mary's. You know what you're going to get
- 4:54Speaker 2: from them, so that that's a big one, and then
- 4:57Speaker 2: the women's and in the bus heads versus versus Icliff
- 5:00Speaker 2: and they've been the best two teams all year and
- 5:04Speaker 2: Nightcliff and Watah was a great game on the weekend.
- 5:07Speaker 2: So two really good Premier Grand Finals and obviously we've
- 5:11Speaker 2: got the other divisions during the day as well, so hopefully,
- 5:15Speaker 2: you know, we stayed the course as it relates to
- 5:18Speaker 2: COVID and people seem to be embracing live events again,
- 5:23Speaker 2: so we're looking forward to a bumper crowd and some
- 5:25Speaker 2: really good football.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckon you're going to get a massive turnout.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Are there any limitations or numbers or anything at this
- 5:31Speaker 1: point or is it all pretty pretty straightforward for the weekend.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Look, it's all pretty straightforward. We're taking some precautions in
- 5:40Speaker 2: indoor areas, but you know, I think people have become
- 5:44Speaker 2: pretty accustomed to take the responsibility for themselves, so you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: the in the stands and across the site, people spread
- 5:52Speaker 2: out and obviously encouraging people to wear masks if they wish,
- 5:57Speaker 2: and they like that. All in all, it's as I said,
- 6:02Speaker 2: people seem to be embracing that sort of personal responsibility
- 6:05Speaker 2: and embracing the return two events like this and others.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Well, mate, I tell you what, You've got a lot
- 6:12Speaker 1: of very excited people as we lead into to the
- 6:14Speaker 1: Grand Final on the weekend, Lots of very excited little
- 6:18Speaker 1: under tens who.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Are going to be playing halftime obviously in the men's
- 6:23Speaker 4: Premier League game.
- 6:24Speaker 1: They are pumped. The little wartars in Saint Mary's players.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Good, good, No, we're looking forward to having the out
- 6:31Speaker 2: of ten. It's always a highlight and you always will
- 6:33Speaker 2: have the cameras on them as well. Think to make
- 6:35Speaker 2: sure that we capture some of the good stuff that
- 6:39Speaker 2: happens on the ground. And we've got the sprint will
- 6:42Speaker 2: happen again which is tied to the stall gift as well.
- 6:46Speaker 2: There's a few things happening and you know everyone's here
- 6:51Speaker 2: to watch the footy on the screen. But the more
- 6:53Speaker 2: we can put on around it and make it at
- 6:54Speaker 2: an event, the more we will.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. Tell me a little bit more about
- 6:58Speaker 1: this sprint too is taking part.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Look, it's all comers event. We've we're working with a
- 7:04Speaker 2: group from from down south who are starting to do
- 7:08Speaker 2: this a little bit more. And you know, as I said,
- 7:11Speaker 2: I mean the women, the winners, I should say, the
- 7:13Speaker 2: events will be invited to the Still Gift, which which
- 7:17Speaker 2: is obviously a massive national event steeped in history, so
- 7:21Speaker 2: we will have that detail closer to the to the game.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But they're partnering with Anti Athletics and a few others
- 7:28Speaker 2: to bring to make sure that Yeah, we've got the
- 7:30Speaker 2: right people on the day and I think it's crossed
- 7:33Speaker 2: we get the right weather and it's it's we see
- 7:36Speaker 2: a nice tide. Sprinted half time.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Very exciting week, Sam, all the best.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I know that you guys there at NTFL must be
- 7:44Speaker 1: incredibly busy this week, so good luck to all of you.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Thanks a lot, Kay PreCure it.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Thank you
