Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM, it's Covey Christine, producer Kristen, and our
- 0:03Speaker 1: dear friend Harry Medved, live in Hollywood from Cinema United,
- 0:08Speaker 1: joins us this morning. to tell us what's new in
- 0:11Speaker 1: the theaters. Good morning, Harry.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Happy Friday, buddy.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Hey, happy Friday. You know, it's always a great weekend
- 0:19Speaker 3: when there's something for everyone.
- 0:20Speaker 2: What's going on? What are we going to go see
- 0:21Speaker 2: this weekend? Well, it's not just one movie. That's the thing.
- 0:24Speaker 3: There's a holdover from last week, but it's expanding. It's
- 0:27Speaker 3: called You Can See Everything, which is true at theaters.
- 0:29Speaker 2: You can really see everything.
- 0:30Speaker 3: But this is a documentary from Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys know his work. It's funny. Oh,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Nathan's work's good. He's amazing.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Sasha Baron Cohen also has a movie opening this weekend.
- 0:42Speaker 3: No one's going to be able to see it because
- 0:44Speaker 3: everyone's going to see Nathan Fielder's film. And he's kind
- 0:47Speaker 3: of like, as he called him, his godson, because he's
- 0:50Speaker 3: an expert on this undercover comedy genre. And this is
- 0:54Speaker 3: a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, a Silicon Valley inventor who
- 1:00Speaker 3: has 34 days left before she goes to prison. And
- 1:03Speaker 3: she invites a camera crew into her home so she
- 1:05Speaker 3: can tell her own side of the story. And it
- 1:07Speaker 3: is absolutely bonkers. It is a wild ride. The movie
- 1:10Speaker 3: is three hours long. You will not believe that you
- 1:13Speaker 3: will enjoy a documentary that's three hours long until you
- 1:15Speaker 3: see this film. I mean, it's just stunning.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I am hearing from friends of mine who have seen
- 1:20Speaker 1: it who think, like, this could actually win Best Picture
- 1:23Speaker 1: at the Oscars, that it's that good.
- 1:26Speaker 3: It will likely be the first documentary ever to get
- 1:28Speaker 3: nominated for Best Picture. Wicker is another film I would
- 1:31Speaker 3: highly recommend. This is a raunchy, romantic comedy fable. about
- 1:37Speaker 3: a fisherwoman many, many years ago in a small little
- 1:40Speaker 3: village who is tired of everyone making fun of her
- 1:43Speaker 3: because she doesn't have a husband. A very small-minded town.
- 1:47Speaker 3: And so she goes to Peter Dinklage, who plays a
- 1:50Speaker 3: basket weaver. And the fisherwoman is played by Olivia Colman,
- 1:53Speaker 3: Oscar winner. And she says, make me a husband out
- 1:55Speaker 3: of wicker.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And he does. And the husband is Alexander Skarsgård, who looks... Amazing.
- 2:01Speaker 3: He's very tall and beefy and immediately gets to work
- 2:05Speaker 3: on making her happy.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And the third one is Wildwood.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Now, do you guys know anything about this movie, Laika's
- 2:12Speaker 3: latest stop-motion animation film?
- 2:14Speaker 2: No. Nothing to do with New Jersey, is it?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Wildwood, New Jersey, yes.
- 2:20Speaker 2: No, this is Wildwood, Oregon, pretty much.
- 2:23Speaker 3: It takes place right outside of Portland where Laika, the
- 2:25Speaker 3: animation studios, the guys who brought you Coraline, That's where
- 2:28Speaker 3: they're located. It's Travis Knight, the son of Phil Knight,
- 2:33Speaker 3: the founder of Nike. He started this studio many years ago.
- 2:35Speaker 3: They've been working on this film for 16 years. It's
- 2:38Speaker 3: the longest stop-motion animated film ever, and it's probably the
- 2:41Speaker 3: best one ever. It is about a teenage girl who
- 2:45Speaker 3: is supposed to watch her little baby brother, kind of
- 2:48Speaker 3: like in Labyrinth, if you remember that movie with Jennifer Connelly.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And, of course, the little baby brother gets kidnapped.
- 2:54Speaker 3: By a a murder of crows now i love a
- 2:57Speaker 3: movie where crows.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Are the bad guys for me that's like i'm.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Not a big fan of crows but uh they take
- 3:02Speaker 3: them to this impassable wilderness where she has to do
- 3:06Speaker 3: battle with this uh queen played by carrie mulligan and
- 3:09Speaker 3: the movie is absolutely spectacular but it is not for
- 3:12Speaker 3: small kids um common sense media is saying if you're
- 3:16Speaker 3: over um 11.
- 3:17Speaker 2: That's OK.
- 3:18Speaker 3: But don't take little kids to see it because it's
- 3:20Speaker 3: pretty violent, I must say. And it's pretty dark and scary,
- 3:23Speaker 3: but wonderful. And it's from Fathom Entertainment. It is in
- 3:26Speaker 3: all theaters across the country. And I hope it does
- 3:29Speaker 3: really well this weekend because a fantastic film is like
- 3:31Speaker 3: 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. So if you're looking for
- 3:34Speaker 3: something adventurous in the animation field and something really thrilling,
- 3:38Speaker 3: kind of like a Lord of the Rings spectacle, go
- 3:40Speaker 3: see Wildwood.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It sounds like we've got great choices this weekend.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It's amazing. It's hard to keep up. There's so many
- 3:46Speaker 2: good movies. Harry, always a pleasure.
- 3:47Speaker 3: And the big rumor is we're going to see you
- 3:49Speaker 3: in person in two weeks.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm thrilled.
- 3:53Speaker 3: There's going to be the 100th anniversary of a small
- 3:55Speaker 3: town theater in Cranford, New Jersey. They're really like the
- 3:58Speaker 3: anchor of the Main Street there. It's called the Cranford Theater.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And that's in the beginning of November. So I believe
- 4:05Speaker 3: they have a public event like very early in November.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And I'll be there on November 9th. So we'd love
- 4:11Speaker 3: to come and see you the morning of.
- 4:13Speaker 1: We would love that. Thank you, Harry.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Enjoy your weekend, Harry. Thank you.
- 4:16Speaker 1: In the meantime, enjoy Hollywood.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Have a great time at the movies, guys. Thank you.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Thank you, Harry, from the Cinema United. Thank you so much.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We'll talk to you very soon.
