- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome to the Inside the Birds postgame show Jeff
- 0:13Mosher and Adam Kaplan And oh my god, how did
- 0:19that just happen? Did that actually truly just happened?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Adam?
- 0:23Speaker 1: The Eagles were on their way to what I was
- 0:26thinking would be the worst loss of the Nick Sirianni era,
- 0:30because they're not a lot of them, and some of
- 0:32them are close. This was and it turned into maybe
- 0:36the most you know, non Super Bowl craziest win of
- 0:40the Nick Sirianni era. Obviously, the Eagles prevail thirty three
- 0:44twenty six at home. They do so by scoring twenty
- 0:48unanswered points to come back from being down way down
- 0:52twenty six to seven. And then that wasn't enough because
- 0:56the Rams are about to line up and kick a
- 0:58field goal to sink them, and Jordan Davis, who had
- 1:01already helped block one field goal, storms through at him,
- 1:04blocks a second field scoops it and runs it back
- 1:09for a touchdown, and everybody, all the betters who took
- 1:12the Eagles one un believable Adam, how do you describe it?
- 1:16Speaker 3: No, you've got most of it. I mean, think about it.
- 1:18The Rams had six straight scores, two touchdowns for field goals.
- 1:23The Eagles were down. In the word, they're down twenty
- 1:24six to seven. They were terrible. Second quarter was horrendous.
- 1:27They you know what, You certainly can't say the team quit,
- 1:31but they seem mentally defeated. They had a ton of Emmys,
- 1:34which are mental errors, a ton of them. Lane Johnson
- 1:37got hurt. That clearly was a factor right tackle. Okay,
- 1:40that's why Matt Pryor was pull They put Fred Johnson here,
- 1:44which turned out to be something that really helped them
- 1:46come back. But they had a heart of a champion.
- 1:49A heart of a champion is able to come back
- 1:51if you're a team. And we know how young they
- 1:53are the youngest defense at football, but they also won
- 1:55the Super Bowl last year. Something in them they chipped away,
- 1:58chipped away the defense which couldn't stop the run at all. Okay,
- 2:02they were terrible against the run, yes, and they were
- 2:05actually on the last drive of the Rams, but they
- 2:08had the block field goal. But Cory and Bennett makes
- 2:11some plays. Okay, they made some plays on defense when
- 2:14they absolutely had to against the pass. So they did
- 2:18some really good things in the second half obviously to
- 2:20come back. And the big thing is they said you
- 2:24know what, And this is what I said on Patreon
- 2:28on our discord, I said, guys, will they why don't
- 2:30they just throw the football? Why are they so scared
- 2:33to throw the football? It's not working for three games.
- 2:36It's not Barkley fault. They can't block for the run.
- 2:39You have two options. Either you're running it or pass it.
- 2:42When the run doesn't work, throw the damn football. And
- 2:45then the offense took off. And it's funny. My prediction
- 2:47in the pregame was two touchdowns to twenty five. I
- 2:50looked like a total chump at halftime, and whatever he
- 2:54looked at, he wind up having hurts. You wind up
- 2:56having three for two twenty five or two twenty six.
- 2:58Excuse me, It's funny how that works out. Anyway, Listen,
- 3:01you're nailing it.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I have a lot of thoughts about this offense, and
- 3:04I got a round completely.
- 3:05Speaker 3: They were getting their hammered. I really I got this
- 3:07game wrong.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I got lucky.
- 3:09Speaker 3: But keep going.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but but but even on that, I have a
- 3:12lot of thoughts that we'll get into and we really
- 3:14break down just what happened offensively in a big picture.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I had this conversation with someone who was walking.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm in the press box now, by the way, for
- 3:23those watching at the video, I'm at the link. Just
- 3:26got back from the locker room. I had a conversation
- 3:28with someone just about how you know the Chiefs did
- 3:32this all year Last year, I just pulled wins out
- 3:35of the jaws of defeat one game after another. Started
- 3:38Week one with that Ravens game where Isaiah likely would
- 3:41have caught the game winning touchdown but it's tolw was
- 3:42on the line, and then week after week they bought kicks.
- 3:45If you remember the the Chiefs had a few of those.
- 3:48And when I get you know, when you get to
- 3:49that level when you're winning sort of the mental game,
- 3:52and you're you're already sort of demoralizing opponents week after
- 3:56week with your toust pushing this, and then you add
- 3:58in the old uh And I know Derek gun and
- 4:00Ray Didn's were talking about it kind of the breaks,
- 4:03but you make your breaks and like Jordan Newis didn't
- 4:05accidentally do that, he blocked he and Jaalen Carter blocked
- 4:09those field goals. And to your point, after really having
- 4:12what I thought was a poor offensive game plan, I
- 4:14think you're hitting this on the head and seeing it
- 4:16the exact way I saw it for most of the half.
- 4:19They woke up in the second half and did what
- 4:21they had to do. And this is so they've won
- 4:23games the way a championship team wins. They're three to zero,
- 4:27the Rams aren't, and it's it'll look you'll look back
- 4:30on it and you'll say it's a great win. There's
- 4:33there is stuff to work on. Run defense was not good.
- 4:36Passing offense was a zombie for the first half. And
- 4:40we'll get into whether or not a new iteration of
- 4:43this offense really exists. I don't think it does. But
- 4:46at the same time, they just showed you that on
- 4:49their worst day, when you think you got.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Them, you don't.
- 4:52Speaker 1: That's how much talent this Eagles team has, and that
- 4:55that goes a long way.
- 4:56Speaker 3: A couple of things to add. And I was saying this,
- 4:59we'd have live stream chat at halftime. I said, I
- 5:03don't know how the hell they're down only nineteen seven.
- 5:05They get the ball first the second half, maybe they
- 5:07could score. Oops, they didn't. Kyvin Williams scored in the
- 5:10ten yard run. I'm like, well they're oh man, I
- 5:12thought they were done. They looked defeated. Yeah, and you
- 5:15got it scorers on the scene pass the whole player
- 5:17missed it on this drop, and I'm like, all right, well,
- 5:21they're only down twelve, Let's see what happens. They're not
- 5:24out of it. The crowd. Now here's my question, because
- 5:27I know, did they You can't always tell because the
- 5:30sound could be muffled on the press box. Could you
- 5:32tell that they were getting booted in the first half?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Somebody else texted me and asked that if you weren't
- 5:37sure watching at home, if the Eagles were getting but yeah, yeah,
- 5:40you could hear it.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And it started way before halftime. I mean it started
- 5:44like it started, I'll tell you when it started.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Then on the first, first or second, when they had
- 5:50third and long backed up in their own end zone
- 5:52and they called a running play, which by the way,
- 5:55is the right play call there, Like you, you know,
- 5:57it would have been nice if I guess I had
- 5:59great Calcatar out there trying to block.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Maybe they should have put a lotso in.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But but you're not gonna try to throw a pass
- 6:04on third eighteen when you're backed down there trying to
- 6:06give your punter some space. But the point was it
- 6:09was so so I saw and so unpleasant to see
- 6:12a Super Bowl championship team sort of getting unmasked and
- 6:15almost emasculated right and just unglued in its own that
- 6:19they have to sit there and call a ridiculous draw
- 6:23just to give themselves some space to punt twice. That
- 6:26that's when the booze really started to Yeah it could
- 6:28be heard, absolutely, Yeah it.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Was again with the Rams score six straight times for
- 6:35field goal John Cardy, who yeah, guy, But but look
- 6:39they and and the Adams play. It's so funny because
- 6:42he clearly pushed off. They don't call it on blank
- 6:44ship and ag Brown clearly pushed off. They don't call it.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Okay, I was gonna say, yeah, they washed each other out.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They had a lot of fans of that. Yeah, I
- 6:52saw that in social media. But the bottom line is
- 6:54hard of a champion that was. That was in my
- 6:56notes here. I have an exclamation point. Elaine Bennett would
- 6:59be happy on that one, on that one inside. But
- 7:04the bottom line is a team that doesn't has not
- 7:07gone through what they've gone through over a series of years,
- 7:10would not win that. And they just wouldn't. They just wouldn't.
- 7:12But I would the one big major takeaway is I
- 7:17know that Sirianni is not gonna call the plays. It's
- 7:21way too early to even consider that. But he can
- 7:25say that Kevin Petula throw the football. You can't. You can't.
- 7:27Not only Kenny, he should Kevin throw the football. Let's
- 7:32throw the football. Because this is bad coaching, is trying
- 7:35to keep doing the same thing over and over and
- 7:36getting zero result, which they got. Not Barkley's fault. They
- 7:39can't block for the run game. Now put it in
- 7:42hurts his hands. You've got Brown, got her down the seam.
- 7:45I know he only got two targets. Got a block too,
- 7:48DeVante Smith unbelievable touchdown, Oh my god, unbelievable. Now, by
- 7:51the way, they had back to back drops got her
- 7:53and DeVante, which is interesting notes here. Then they got
- 7:56the job done. Devant he had the incredible catch and
- 7:58the heart of a champion to a J. Brown, hard
- 7:59of a champ. He would not be denied. Get it
- 8:02in the hand. And by the way, Barkley had a
- 8:03bad drop right in his hands, right in his hands
- 8:06on a jump off. But and then the other thing
- 8:09is we didn't even mention it. What in the hell
- 8:11on the five kickoff returns with the bobble, what come on?
- 8:15Speaker 2: All right?
- 8:15Speaker 1: So yeah, I was gonna save special teams for the end,
- 8:18but I think that you're brazing it at a good
- 8:20point and isn't there. So there's just like new kickoff
- 8:24style where they're like knuckleball kicks that that I think
- 8:28Cardi is trying to do and others. It's like a
- 8:32I know that people have written about it. I think
- 8:34The Athletic did a nice story about it. And maybe
- 8:37it's hard to practice against this new style of kick off.
- 8:41It's almost like a it's part of the new dynamic kickoffs.
- 8:44So the kickers are trying something different, and Cardi is
- 8:47one of them who's trying to execute a knuckleball style
- 8:51of kick. Okay, so let's firstly say at least this
- 8:54isn't just.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Out of nowhere.
- 8:57Speaker 1: There's a reason that's causing him to happen, and maybe
- 8:59it's tough to but there is zero excuse for five
- 9:04of them, like zero excuse, Like you gotta like buckle
- 9:08down and figure it out. It's not impossible to return
- 9:10a kick that is not going to concentrate and see it.
- 9:13Speaker 3: So Michael Clay and Tyler Brown. This is they have
- 9:17some work to do. There's no question about it. I'll
- 9:20tell you what. And also, Braidon Man is a man.
- 9:22He is unbelievable. I don't want to I mean, I
- 9:26know one of them. You might you might say he'll
- 9:28kick the coverage on the twenty yard return, but man,
- 9:31he is really really good. Jake Elliott's fine, no problem
- 9:35with him. But overall they got to clean that specialty's
- 9:37part up on the returns. But the bottom line is
- 9:41they were able to come back. Uh the run the
- 9:44other takeaway and we'll break somen some stuff individually a minute,
- 9:47but the run defense totally out of their gap. They
- 9:51they got outside zone, inside zone gap played. They got
- 9:55all sorts of stuff. We'll talk to Greg o cell
- 9:58Monday night and we'll get Greg's early word and then
- 10:00the Patreon level three people take over the chat on Tuesday.
- 10:03It's all theirs. They pepper Greg with a thousand questions
- 10:06and Greg loves it and Greg boy Greg with Greg
- 10:10got a chip on his shoulder last Tuesday was phenomenal.
- 10:13He was great because he was you know he I'll
- 10:17be interesting to see what he thinks about the past.
- 10:20It's not so much the ratio. It's just when it's
- 10:21obvious it's not working and go to the past. But
- 10:24we'll see. I'm hosting I know you. You and Andrew
- 10:27are doing the are doing the WBT of the Profo
- 10:30Bubb Report Show from from Marlton, right.

- 10:47few lines in the water there, but something should come
- 10:50through if we can do that. All right, So good
- 10:53transition offense. There are some offensive conceptual things that I
- 10:56was able to observe in the press box where I

- 13:32Check out the link below. We're in the show notes
- 13:34and support the show. All right, so I really paid
- 13:38attention to this, Adam, because I in talking when you
- 13:41and I do inside the tape with Greg, he has
- 13:43put us on to some of the things that the
- 13:45Cowboys did and then what the Chiefs did, and I
- 13:48look to see if there was a blueprint here to copy,
- 13:51and sure enough there was.
- 13:52Speaker 2: So the Eagles are seeing.
- 13:54Speaker 1: A lot of too deep two shell cover two whatever
- 13:57you want to call it, two safeties deep on first
- 14:00and second down, all right, And these teams, whether it
- 14:03was the Cowboys, whether it's the Chiefs and now the Rams,
- 14:06they're doing a good job of playing too deep, but
- 14:09also trying to funnel like their nickel if they're a
- 14:12nickel or base. They're getting guys closer to the line
- 14:14of scrimmage, stunting, doing things to be better against the run,
- 14:17because when you play two safeties away from line of scrimmage,
- 14:20you sort of invite the team to run, right, And
- 14:22the Eagles have tried to run, but they have not
- 14:23broken one yet as we speak, three weeks in with
- 14:26sain Kwon Barkley, So that has put the Eagles behind
- 14:29the sticks.
- 14:29Speaker 2: They've faced a lot more third and.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Long And then to your point, that's when you say, fine,
- 14:36if you're gonna play too deep. You're giving me a
- 14:38lot of the middle of the field to throw to.
- 14:39Now we know Adam Jalen Hurts doesn't love to throw
- 14:42in the middle of field, but we also know that
- 14:45when guys are open, he typically throws those balls in
- 14:48the middle of the field. And I'm watching here and
- 14:51I'm like, why are they not attacking it? And then
- 14:55the second quarter, like you said, it's like they're gonna
- 14:58run the ball, They're gonna throw the swing pass. It's
- 15:01almost like, both from an offensive concept and then also
- 15:04from a Jailen Hurts, he had gotten so used to
- 15:06not hating to do it that he didn't And it's
- 15:10like you said, third quarter, it happened with the brown
- 15:13slant and then thirty three are touchdown to god Her.
- 15:15It's like they all realize as a quarterback in the
- 15:19staff that if they are going to give you all
- 15:21that underneath, take it. You know you're not asking Jailen
- 15:25to threat windows. They were spread wide, running mesh routes,
- 15:29running digs, running slants and getting guys open and making plays.
- 15:34And Adam, I just can't figure out why it took
- 15:37so long for whether it's jailing or whether it's Kevin Petula,
- 15:40whether it's the offensive staff at the whole, the receivers.
- 15:43I put this on everybody. I mean, you're giving, you're
- 15:46supposed to take what the defense gives. Yeah, And for
- 15:48the first half of that game they refused. And then
- 15:52just the second part of that is that because of
- 15:55the success that teams have been having on first and
- 15:57second down against the Eagles, they're blitzing the wrap out
- 16:00of him.
- 16:01Speaker 3: The zone blitz is cour cour it's called quarter cat,
- 16:04when the cree blitz is. They did all sorts of
- 16:08Greg mentioned in our premium show, the kid McCullough would
- 16:11when you know what, he had a blitz.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Adam, the Rams blitz twelve percent going into this game.
- 16:17They are the third fewest percentage blitzing team the league.
- 16:22And like you said, they didn't just throw it, but
- 16:23they're bringing the safety. They're bringing a safety and a linebacker,
- 16:28a guy around.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was working well.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Lane Lee Lane Johnson leaving early that I'm sure that
- 16:33was part of it. That there's no doubt about it.
- 16:37But it worked. It absolutely worked. And that's when and
- 16:40you saw the body language of the offensive players wasn't
- 16:43very good. They were very frustrated, but that's we're hard
- 16:46of a champion, so because they know what it takes
- 16:48to win. And eventually, as you were outlining some nickel
- 16:54and dimes stuff, some bigger plays in the third quarter.
- 16:57After they gave him the touchdown early and then but
- 16:59then they the defense with ben Ben Ben Ben Ben.
- 17:04Then they started taking they stopped giving a big place
- 17:08Bennett to occurring Bennett. It looked a little bit ugly
- 17:10early filling in for Jey Jackson or the groin injury,
- 17:14but he got the job done. A blanket chef, had
- 17:16a nice pass defense. Bond was unbelievable certain place in
- 17:19the first half. But the big concern is, and it's seemingly,
- 17:25let's face, they go one hundred fifteen yards in the
- 17:26first half against the run they got they got cash
- 17:30on several type of runs. I'm interested see what Greg
- 17:35says when he creates the tape. What the hell the
- 17:37problem was trying to stop the run. Well, we'll get
- 17:39to defense at a minute, but offensively to finish this off,
- 17:42I just feel like the way this thing went. They
- 17:48know how they have an excellent pass target group, why
- 17:51not make be somewhat of a quase passing team and
- 17:55mix the run in instead of being a running team.
- 17:57It's not working. And mixing the passing.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I love that you're saying this.
- 18:02Speaker 3: We'll see because.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And I wrote this in my observations for Philly Voice.
- 18:06Everybody should check it out. I had a couple of
- 18:09different observations. I don't think you everybody got onto. So
- 18:12do you remember all the talk about the iteration, this
- 18:14new iteration of the Eagles offense.
- 18:16Speaker 2: You know, we want to avoid being getting sale.
- 18:18Speaker 1: A lot of the Jalen Hurts talked about it, Patula
- 18:20talked about it, Jordani Lada.
- 18:22Speaker 2: They said, look, we can't be like twenty twenty three
- 18:24and get stale, right. We gotta add. I want to
- 18:28tell you.
- 18:28Speaker 1: This though, even when they're moving the ball well, like
- 18:32in the third and fourth quarter, go look at all
- 18:34the place the slant to aj the deep dig on
- 18:36third down to DeVante Smith for sixteen yards, right, great play,
- 18:40great play. The touchdown of Dallas Goddard I think was
- 18:43on an RPO. I'm not sure, but great, right down
- 18:45the seam of a couple. Right, they're executing the same play.
- 18:50Did you see Jalen Hurts with the five wide right,
- 18:54what you what is he gonna do when he's spread
- 18:55five wide, He's gonna wait a second and then he's
- 18:57gonna do a design quarterback round. There's nothing that they're
- 19:00doing differently so, but but they scored a lot of
- 19:04points and they came alive.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I guess what I'm.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Saying is they want tempo. They want temple.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Well, tempo is something that they always do too. My
- 19:11point is there's there is no new iteration. They're just
- 19:13doing what they do. They just finally did it better
- 19:16in the third and fourth quarter when they started taking
- 19:19the defense.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Gives other than they changed the ratio. They became a
- 19:22passing team, not a running team. Although it's so funny,
- 19:25it's like they couldn't help themselves. They felt, oh, we
- 19:27have to stay honest, let's run the ball. No, they can't.
- 19:31The rams are off what corner. That's bad coaching. If
- 19:34it's not working, stop doing it. They're not going to
- 19:37stop you. That's just this is I can't stand when
- 19:40coaches do this. If it's working, keep doing it. It's
- 19:44you and I have done this throughout our careers. We
- 19:45ask coaches, why are you doing this? Because it worked?
- 19:48When it's working, keep doing it. They're really bad at corners.
- 19:52So and they tried to protect them by playing too deep.
- 19:55I get that, as you said. Then they started taking it.
- 19:58Sure it's the intermediate and it was on slants that work.
- 20:02Suret air get it to Davante. Plus they had free drops,
- 20:05as I said, So you know, overall they got the
- 20:08job done. They need a miracle finish, one of the
- 20:10most other than both Miracle and the Badlands. I'm sure
- 20:13other people will remember.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I don't.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I can't think of anything that was this miracle like
- 20:17it was incredible.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it really was. Now do you think all right,
- 20:21let's get We'll get into defense in a second. Let's

- 22:28That's code birds for a risk free first stake. All right,
- 22:32So defensively, let's let's examine the root question that I'm
- 22:37wondering here. Jordan Davis gave us all a great big
- 22:41guy touchdown, thick touchdown, thick six, whatever you want to
- 22:44call it. Somewhere Brian Westbrook must have been very disapproving, right,
- 22:48I mean, you gotta just jump on that ball and
- 22:50cover it up and lay down and game over. I
- 22:53don't know why he scooped it up and felt the
- 22:55need to run back for the touchdown. It was very exciting.
- 22:57It's fun to say in retrospect, but Brian Westbrook did
- 23:00it the right way when he took the knee at
- 23:02the one against the Cowboys all those years ago. And
- 23:05I don't know that there was really a need for
- 23:07Jordan Davis to have to scoop that and return it.
- 23:09They had won the game. The game's over, that's it, goodbye,
- 23:11good night. But he did provide a lot of enthusiasm
- 23:14for the fans there. I thought Jordan Davis Adham not
- 23:18only was huge from that standpoint and also the one
- 23:22where he blocked the field goal with Jalen Carter, but
- 23:24he had two enormous stops in this game. Yeah, third
- 23:28and two on Matthew Stafford and then fourth and one
- 23:30he swims inside Kevin Dotson, great arm over swim move
- 23:34and just knocks Kyra Williams in his tracks.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I mean, he is a big part of this. He's
- 23:40the reason for the win. To be honest with you.
- 23:43Speaker 3: He was obviously. Yeah. Now he was part of an
- 23:47awful run defense. Let's call it like it is. We can't.
- 23:50We gotta be kurt here, but being mentally tough, the
- 23:53kid cares. By the way, I know, the worder on
- 23:55the club is he talks a lot about how he's
- 23:58gonna do this or that, but he's backing it up
- 24:00here and he came. He came in big time. That
- 24:02That was great. Carter, by the way, you can't have
- 24:06a personal foul. Man, you can't do that. I mean,
- 24:09that's just I don't know what that. You can't bench.
- 24:12He's too good, but at some point I can't have it.
- 24:17Lucky didn't cost him the game. But bottom line, uh,
- 24:20Davis came through that. That was huge when it really mattered.
- 24:23That's the thing about this game. When it absolutely possibly had,
- 24:25someone had to make a play. That was the story
- 24:27of the second half. Everybody made plays when they were
- 24:30the first half.
- 24:31Speaker 2: That's the correct all right.
- 24:33Speaker 1: So on top of that story, two of the second
- 24:35half for two weeks straight. Now Vic Fangio is blitzing
- 24:39at a much higher percentage than I do.
- 24:42Speaker 2: How about that? Now.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I had an interesting conversation with my quick Answer because
- 24:47in the locker room, a couple of guys suggested, you know,
- 24:50when you're getting gashed and run like that, you got
- 24:52to send some extra bodies.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But Vic was blitzing on third down as well.
- 24:56Speaker 1: It wasn't just blitz it was yeah, yeah, but he
- 24:58was also coming after stef Efford on third down.
- 25:01Speaker 2: And that's that surprised me.
- 25:02Speaker 1: And you know, I was talking to my quick about it,
- 25:04and I said, I'm surprised he felt that comfortable given
- 25:07that you know, Nikua and DeVante are so good wide receivers,
- 25:11and he said the one thing about them as opposed
- 25:14to say like when they had to defend Lamb and Pickens,
- 25:18which Vic didn't blitz.
- 25:19Speaker 2: At all in that game.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Basically, he said, the one thing about them is that
- 25:22they're great receivers, but they're not natural speed separators, right, They're.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Contested catch guys.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And when you have a quinnya Mitchell and a Cooper
- 25:30de gene like, he said, yeah, he McVeigh is going
- 25:33to scheme up a couple that beat you, like the
- 25:35one where he got Davonte on red blanket ship. That's
- 25:38that's going to happen in the course of a game
- 25:40in a season. But he said, in general, he liked
- 25:43the approach and I and I looking back on it,
- 25:45Stafford's numbers were bad and Stafford missed about six or
- 25:49seven throws, And I think they had a lot to
- 25:51do with the either a pressure or the fear and
- 25:55threat of pressure, because I thought Stafford let a few
- 25:57go early that sailed, especially on third down. Oh that
- 26:01was where the pressure wasn't there, But he was just
- 26:03afraid of.
- 26:03Speaker 3: It all right on your point. He looked like Eli Manning.
- 26:06Eli Manning had a terrible habit of turning his face
- 26:08and and and when pressure was coming at him. And
- 26:12boy Stafford had one where the guy was wide open.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah on the over what's that? Yeah?
- 26:19Speaker 1: It was like an out where I think it was
- 26:22Nikua had had Dejeene.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Beat to the outside on third down.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the play. And I'm like, dude, why
- 26:27are you turning your butt? Why there was no one
- 26:30was in five within five yards of you? Why did
- 26:32you turn your face and your foot? That was just bad?
- 26:34Like he didn't in consistent game he had. He made
- 26:36some Matthew Stafford lake for rous where you go holy sure,
- 26:39but uh he he definitely had some bad plays. The
- 26:42pick by by the way, the pick by Bond the
- 26:44first quarter is ridiculously incredible.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yes, great, great jump of the routu. Yeah, I mean
- 26:49he is he is.
- 26:50Speaker 1: If everybody thought he was like gonna regress or come
- 26:53back to it hasn't.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Happened, especially that he's a pretty development.
- 26:57Speaker 1: But yeah, there was there was the the goal line
- 27:00where it was a beautiful play action by the Rams
- 27:03and all he had to do was throw it up
- 27:04to Williams and he just threw it over his head.
- 27:09I mean it was there. It was a touchdown. There
- 27:10there were two third downs, how about listen, This was
- 27:13a tough one where he rolled to his left and
- 27:16then threw right to the right corner for Nikua I
- 27:21think or no, no, it's Davante Adams. But Davante had
- 27:25a step and he just overthrew it.
- 27:28Speaker 2: That could have been a score.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And then the same thing on the one where he
- 27:32put it in Williams's bread basket in the end zone
- 27:36in the right corner where Jacorey and Bennett. You mentioned that,
- 27:39I feel like if he had thrown back shoulder, then
- 27:41Bennett can't get his hand there. So but all that
- 27:45I think was not just like him making bad passes.
- 27:48I feel like he felt that threat of I cannot
- 27:51hold on to this ball a single second longer and
- 27:53I just got to let it loose.
- 27:54Speaker 2: So that's you credit the egos defense for that.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe maybe so. But the bottom line is they
- 28:00found a way to win when it looked just terrible.
- 28:03But the story was when they were down in nineteen
- 28:05seven and a half, as they said earlier, like they're
- 28:08very lucky to be they were actually in this game.
- 28:10Twelve points is nothing in the National Football League, as
- 28:11we as it would turn out as well. But look,
- 28:15the Rams. I may look that David picked a seer
- 28:18of human play that the run they gave up. Look,
- 28:21the defense gave up way too much. The run defense.
- 28:24They have a lot to fix, like as we finish
- 28:26off defense, a lot to fix. We'll find out about
- 28:31Jackson in the coming days. It quite frankly, they might
- 28:33as well go with with Bennett. They traded for him.
- 28:36But we'll see what happens. But they they've got to
- 28:38fix this run defense. That was embarrassing. How bad. Karen
- 28:41Wills is a nice player, and he's shifty as hell,
- 28:44really spot runner like he seems to find these creases.
- 28:46Why he's not what you call explosive. But this is
- 28:50a line they should have dominated against the Rams. Steve
- 28:53Abla was out or the starting guards is a good
- 28:55football player. Kevin Dotson missed some plays, he left with
- 28:59a f cramp or something, and they still couldn't get
- 29:02They just couldn't get anything going save a couple of
- 29:05couple stuffs, but they didn't have a lot of them.
- 29:08And you know, overall the other thing is, and you
- 29:10mentioned the pressure. They're just not getting pressure on the quarterback.
- 29:13And that's why Vick like, there's a saying in coaching,
- 29:15if you can't get home with four, you bring five.
- 29:17You can't you bring six. If you can't get with five,
- 29:20they're just gonna have to blitz. I'm sure he dreads it.
- 29:23You don't like blitz, but you got to get home somehow.
- 29:26And by the way, they still weren't getting home as
- 29:28much as they probably should have.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he was probably enjoying it.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Seeing Stafford completed fifty seven percent past This is one
- 29:35of the most accurate quarterbacks in the league.
- 29:37Speaker 2: So he was.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Probably I think having guys like Campbell and Bawn now
- 29:41and and just having you know, cover guys like Quinna,
- 29:44Mitchell and Cooper, you know, in year two, I think
- 29:47he's more comfortable with it.
- 29:48Speaker 2: He's he's clearly more comfortable.
- 29:49Speaker 3: He has to number one. Number two on your point,
- 29:54I would, and again this is all subjective unless co
- 29:57Selsey's on the coaching tape. I think on your you
- 30:00made earlier is a good one, is that they seem
- 30:03to be in Stafford's had at least a little bit
- 30:04He rushed himself and that that was part of it.
- 30:10So so the defense got more pressure. It wasn't pressure
- 30:14doesn't mean it's always sacks. It's making the quarterback do
- 30:17something he doesn't want to do, or making rush a
- 30:19split second, which he seemed to do. And the mental
- 30:23layers that they were making the first half, they were
- 30:25weren't making as many of them, and that's the key.
- 30:28But man, they have seven edge rushers, they dressed five,
- 30:30and they're just not getting home on natural plays where
- 30:34you run your five man front, were your uplets and
- 30:35they just cannot get home consistently like last year. And
- 30:39that's something that how he's going to have to look
- 30:41at by the by end of October. I know they
- 30:44have a lot of players, but that's never stopped them.
- 30:46They have seven guys, but who do they have was
- 30:48a consistent pass rusher? The answers nobody very interesting.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought up Howry Roseman.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I want to finish on this point how he gave
- 30:57up because I got to call the coaches for for this,
- 31:00all right, How he gave up a lot of He
- 31:03gave up not any high picks, but he's given up
- 31:05picks for three guys right. In particular, I'm about to
- 31:08mention one is MATCHI he had trouble to kick off
- 31:12two to one for bigs B.
- 31:13Speaker 2: He had trouble with kickoff returns.
- 31:15Speaker 1: And then they give a pick for Fred Johnson to
- 31:18be your swing tackle that he played fairly well last
- 31:22year in that role. Why did you bring Matt Pryor in?
- 31:26Why did you give up pick your GM give up
- 31:28picks to bring him Fred Johnson for that role? But
- 31:30you brought in Matt Pryor and he was a turnstile.
- 31:32Unfortunately he got Jalen Hurts killed?
- 31:36Speaker 3: Yeah, what was what was the Fred Johnson trade?
- 31:38Speaker 2: Was? Like? It was probably like a sixth Yeah, I.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Know whatn't much, but at least.
- 31:43Speaker 2: The point is like you gave up something to get
- 31:45him for that role.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Why didn't you play him because as soon as he
- 31:48came in the offense just started moving down the field.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, we said months ago he's more of
- 31:54a left tack who could play right. But you know
- 31:57what without him, I mean I don't want to obviously
- 31:59not putting up all him, but that was a factor
- 32:01then when you were absolutly I'm glad you brought that
- 32:02up there. He was absolutely the factor. He's what he
- 32:04did is he settled things down. He's been an incredible
- 32:07story by the way of of uh kind of igniting career,
- 32:12which he didn't really have befo. We came to Philly
- 32:15the first time around, and it's been a great story development.
- 32:17And they needed a man because with with Lane's injury, uh,
- 32:25they needed something and Matt Pryor that was bad. That
- 32:27played that that that pressure he gave up was pretty bad.
- 32:30Gives own credit. He didn't belabor it by keeping him in,
- 32:33you know, with which sometimes coaches do and oh, we'll
- 32:35let him work it out. No, they pulled him.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, that's right.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I'll give him credit for that, and then take credit
- 32:41away for even putting math Ryer in there.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Uh that when you have a job.
- 32:45Speaker 3: He's there. Yeah, but he's been there back up right
- 32:48off camp. Right.
- 32:49Speaker 1: But then they traded for Fred Johnson because they wanted
- 32:52a better backup offensive tag.
- 32:55Speaker 2: It wasn't just I thought for left I thought they
- 32:57wanted him to be the swing tackle that he was
- 32:59last year.
- 33:00Speaker 3: But again, let me ask you this question, though, who
- 33:03would be the bat? Who is the who is it
- 33:06going to be the backup left tackle. If they didn't
- 33:09trade for for for Johnson for Fred.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Probably well, I guess Kendall Lamb if they would have
- 33:15had to have kept.
- 33:15Speaker 3: It didn't work right, and it didn't work with Kendall Lamb,
- 33:18you know, so what choice did they have. They needed
- 33:21a back up left and Fred did a good job. Uh.
- 33:25And we'll see if lame will be cleared. Uh. I
- 33:29saw something out there. They had a stinger. I think
- 33:30you might have told the inquirers a stinger. Let's just
- 33:32have to clear up, you know.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully it doesn't linger.
- 33:36Speaker 1: And I know Darius Cooper also went to the locker room,
- 33:39so we'll getting updated.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Other than that, they made it through, I think fairly unscathed.
- 33:45And we're gonna have a ton of Greek coverage. And
- 33:48I cannot wait to hear the conversation between Ray Didtinger
- 33:53and Derek Gunn on Birds Weekly this week. I can't
- 33:57wait for great co sales breakdown, for Sam Finkle's analytical
- 34:00breakdown on inside the data for the Daily to Checko's
- 34:03or to checko dailies, I should say all week long,
- 34:05including his own take on this game. So much great
- 34:09coverage and content on ITB coming up throughout the weekend.
- 34:13Of course, like you said, our show Tuesday night, WBCB

- 34:20Speaker 1: That's gonna do it for the Inside the Birds post
- 34:21game show for Adam Kaplan. I'm Jeff Mosher, Thanks for
