- 0:00Speaker 1: Tony Gats Morning News ninety three w IBC. My name
- 0:05Speaker 1: is Craig Collins, filling in, thrilled to be with you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: A bunch of stuff out there to talk about. It
- 0:09Speaker 1: is time for our Popcorn Moment, brought to you by
- 0:11Speaker 1: Boer Homer Modeling.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And I'm not going to talk as much. I'm just
- 0:17Speaker 2: going to fire it. Here we go.
- 0:19Speaker 1: You have Tony Fauci's old job, is that correct?
- 0:21Speaker 3: Talktor about Itharia?
- 0:23Speaker 4: Well, he he would have worked for me, actually he would.
- 0:26Speaker 4: He was the head of National Institute of Algae and
- 0:28Speaker 4: Texassease as it.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Should be, by the way.
- 0:30Speaker 2: But do you feel vindicated for that?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Like my goodness talk about coming full circle?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's it's I mean, vindication is nice.
- 0:38Speaker 4: But to me, the most important thing is that we
- 0:41Speaker 4: have to make sure the NIH works for the American people. Sure,
- 0:44Speaker 4: and what you saw yesterday in Congress was not an
- 0:46Speaker 4: example of that. And it just pains me. And just
- 0:51Speaker 4: year and a half that I've been the leader of
- 0:52Speaker 4: the NIH, I've worked very hard to reform the NIH
- 0:55Speaker 4: and it's actually been in many ways so easy to
- 0:59Speaker 4: find dead scientists who want to find advances and cures
- 1:03Speaker 4: that make people better, make people in America healthy.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that sounds nice. I like that last part. I
- 1:09Speaker 1: in love a lot of the part for it. And
- 1:11Speaker 1: also but the honest reflection and the true reflection about
- 1:14Speaker 1: Fauci and his testimony and how bad it made a
- 1:16Speaker 1: lot of people look not just a doctor Anthony Fauci,
- 1:19Speaker 1: but anybody kind of tied to him during COVID and
- 1:22Speaker 1: within NIH and other organizations. All Right, other things out
- 1:26Speaker 1: there that I thought were interesting. I think this is
- 1:29Speaker 1: kind of funny. There is video of a robotic mouth
- 1:32Speaker 1: that has gone very viral that sounds terrible. It looks
- 1:35Speaker 1: more like a weird fish mouth than a human one.
- 1:38Speaker 1: It physically replicates human speech using an air pump for lungs,
- 1:42Speaker 1: a silicon tongue, and eight artificial vocal cords. It does
- 1:47Speaker 1: make weird sounds. And so since this is radio and
- 1:50Speaker 1: not video and I can't show you the strange video,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I'm going to play the weird sounds. But again, this
- 1:55Speaker 1: is being made by a robotic mouth that went very viral.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Fantastic. I'm gonna I'm gonna play what.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Was that, Matt fantastic?
- 2:07Speaker 2: That's great, I'm gonna play it again.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Someone is very happy that they've created a robotic mouth.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It doesn't talk yet, but it does this. It's closer
- 2:20Speaker 2: to a real thing.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Many many people assume that whenever this is finished, it'll
- 2:24Speaker 1: still be used for horrible reasons and not great ones.
- 2:28Speaker 5: I mean, all this technology, all of this AI, and
- 2:31Speaker 5: this is the best we can come up with right now.
- 2:33Speaker 2: This is yeah, you know.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Well.
- 2:34Speaker 1: What I love about it too is the guy who's
- 2:36Speaker 1: like demoing it and then put up the video about it.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He's proud he built the whole mouth. It looks kind
- 2:41Speaker 1: of like a mouth, and he's like, guys, guys, guys,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you don't know, like, listen to what it does.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And he's thrilled.
- 2:50Speaker 5: This is this is what's going to end up taking
- 2:52Speaker 5: my job. It's like, they build your robotic mouth, and
- 2:55Speaker 5: those are the first sounds. It's like baby's forced words,
- 2:58Speaker 5: you know, Carl's newborn baby comes.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that's how it starts, and you.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Know, and then it evolves into traffic reporting and everything else.
- 3:06Speaker 5: So I'm out of a gig in five years because
- 3:08Speaker 5: of this robot mount that sounds like it's having a seizure.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right, Although occasionally I think that while it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: like crushing a traffic report or something.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It would just evolve back into.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And then it would just try to shift away from
- 3:22Speaker 1: it and you'd be like, wait, what was that that
- 3:24Speaker 1: happened for a few seconds.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Tis this is what we do with these million billion
- 3:27Speaker 5: dollar grants, as we build things that have absolutely no
- 3:30Speaker 5: practical purpose whatsoever. And that's the beautiful thing about wasting
- 3:33Speaker 5: government money.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I love it.
- 3:35Speaker 3: It's wells more men or women.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah see, yeah, like we talked about yesterday and wasting
- 3:40Speaker 1: university money. I would love to be like in the
- 3:43Speaker 1: room for this stuff. Man, it would be so much fun.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And then also, like you would assume since it's a
- 3:48Speaker 1: robotic mouth and it looks real and it took a
- 3:50Speaker 1: lot of assembling that it's a whole team of people
- 3:53Speaker 1: who are behind this, And so like, I'm betting one
- 3:56Speaker 1: person on the team is disappointed with the result. He's like,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you know, I don't think we did as good as
- 4:00Speaker 1: everybody else in the room. Things, And you don't want
- 4:02Speaker 1: to be the crappy person saying the crappy thing to
- 4:05Speaker 1: everybody else. But I imagine at least one guy doesn't
- 4:08Speaker 1: want his name tied to this.
- 4:09Speaker 5: This is the guy who doesn't get it, invited out
- 4:10Speaker 5: for drinks, doesn't get to go to the company meals,
- 4:13Speaker 5: shows up to the holiday parties alone, is the first
- 4:16Speaker 5: one to go to HR because nobody ecceects it.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I get it, you know, it's it would just be
- 4:20Speaker 3: I don't understand.
- 4:22Speaker 5: If we can do this, why aren't we like it
- 4:24Speaker 5: be some kind of way to teach somebody another language quickly,
- 4:27Speaker 5: you know what they're like better.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I don't know. I love this. I'm not gonna lie.
- 4:33Speaker 2: No, it's fine.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And every time we think there's an advancement, there's some
- 4:36Speaker 1: level of proof that, like, maybe it's not going to
- 4:38Speaker 1: go well, all.
- 4:39Speaker 2: The stuff that we're gonna do. I know it's yeah,
- 4:43Speaker 2: maybe just maybe too much trust in the internet. At
- 4:45Speaker 2: tempted to play it again, but I'm not gonna play it.
- 4:47Speaker 3: No, I can wait hear it one more time, just
- 4:48Speaker 3: for me.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You want to hear the amazing advancement that happened in science,
- 4:53Speaker 1: in the world of for anyone just tuning in. Someone
- 4:56Speaker 1: made a electronic mouth that moves and looks very similar
- 5:00Speaker 1: to a real human mouth, with air pumps and all
- 5:02Speaker 1: kinds of things, and they're very proud It also can
- 5:05Speaker 1: make noises, although not noises you and I totally recognize
- 5:12Speaker 1: that's all it does for now. Yeah, at some point,
- 5:16Speaker 1: who knows what's coming next, to see what.
- 5:18Speaker 3: It's gonna say next. I mean it's beautiful, come on.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's amazing.
- 5:23Speaker 3: All right.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Other things out there that I thought were interesting. How
- 5:26Speaker 1: much are Americans really spending on summer activities was a
- 5:30Speaker 1: story that was out there this year. People are claiming
- 5:33Speaker 1: that they're pulling back, but yet a lot of people
- 5:35Speaker 1: really aren't. Nearly four hundred dollars a weekend is the
- 5:39Speaker 1: average cost of just summer itself. This doesn't mean vacation.
- 5:43Speaker 1: This doesn't mean you know, the trip you take. This
- 5:46Speaker 1: this means the things you do to splurge to have
- 5:48Speaker 1: fun because it's nice outside in a lot of places.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Does this number surprise us or no?
- 5:53Speaker 5: It surprises me a little bit because I'm thinking about
- 5:55Speaker 5: a family and gas prices and feeding the family.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Four hundred dollars seems low to me.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Actually, sure, yeah, every week is two hundred bucks and well.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Right, but again, I want to contextualize it correctly. This
- 6:07Speaker 1: is what you spend on a weekend just going out
- 6:09Speaker 1: with the family on like a regular summer weekend.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Okay, sure, but now say you're going to a lake.
- 6:14Speaker 5: You got to feel up the boat, you have to
- 6:16Speaker 5: drive to the lake, you have to pull the trailer,
- 6:18Speaker 5: which takes more gas, and then you have to pack
- 6:19Speaker 5: the lunches and everything else.
- 6:21Speaker 3: To me, that sounds I don't know, maybe you can
- 6:23Speaker 3: get a done for four hundred dollars.
- 6:24Speaker 5: I don't have a family, but it just seems four
- 6:27Speaker 5: hundred dollars on two incomes, say the husband and wife
- 6:31Speaker 5: or the significant other are both working with the salaries.
- 6:35Speaker 5: That doesn't seem too awful to me. And somebody's gonna
- 6:37Speaker 5: punch me in the face for saying that. I get
- 6:39Speaker 5: it now, But I would think it would be much
- 6:41Speaker 5: more than that.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, no fair.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And here I can even break it down because they
- 6:45Speaker 1: did this in the study. A dining out sixty one
- 6:47Speaker 1: bucks for a family. Typically, that sounds a little low.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I know, not a chance, no, And I wonder if
- 6:53Speaker 1: dining out actually means any like not a real restaurant,
- 6:56Speaker 1: like this is fast food.
- 6:57Speaker 2: This is an taco Bell, Yeah, taco Bell.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, in all the diarrhea transportation transportation fifty one
- 7:04Speaker 1: bucks for an average weekend of travel, hosting, gathering, sixty
- 7:08Speaker 1: bucks to buy other stuff, entertainment maybe going to a
- 7:11Speaker 1: movie or something fifty seven outdoor activity fifty five Self
- 7:15Speaker 1: care and wellness was also put into this list. Any
- 7:18Speaker 1: kind of like getting a haircut or something fifty four dollars.
- 7:21Speaker 1: That's some of what makes up a typical weekend spend
- 7:24Speaker 1: in the world of our country right now. I do
- 7:27Speaker 1: think it's interesting that they also say the number one
- 7:29Speaker 1: activity is going to a restaurant that most people like.
- 7:32Speaker 1: If you want to do something fun over the weekend,
- 7:35Speaker 1: just going to a place and eating food is pretty
- 7:38Speaker 1: much all you do.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say that would be because that's your
- 7:41Speaker 5: family time, right, that would be the time where your
- 7:43Speaker 5: date night with your wife.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I mean, that makes sense to me. But the sixty
- 7:46Speaker 3: two dollars, I think that was the number way too low.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Will made to be all four hundred.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Yeah, you're not even getting the adpetizer for sixty two dollars.
- 7:54Speaker 1: By the way, I really I very fondly remember being
- 7:57Speaker 1: a kid and getting to go out to eat, because
- 7:58Speaker 1: I feel like it did it very seldom growing up
- 8:01Speaker 1: with a single mom, and I remember, and I think
- 8:03Speaker 1: i've told this in the air before because my grandfather
- 8:06Speaker 1: loved steak and would make steak when we went over
- 8:08Speaker 1: his house.
- 8:08Speaker 2: No matter what restaurant I went to, I.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Would order a steak and I'd always ask for it rare,
- 8:13Speaker 1: as like a small ten year old child, because my
- 8:16Speaker 1: grandfather told me that was good. And every time it
- 8:19Speaker 1: happened before the waitress would walk away, my mom would
- 8:21Speaker 1: change the order.
- 8:22Speaker 2: It didn't matter what it was like. Every time I
- 8:24Speaker 2: would be like, can I get a rare steak?
- 8:26Speaker 1: And I'd be sitting in an eye hoop and I'm like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: get me a flame and yon rare, And then my
- 8:30Speaker 1: mom would be like, that's not what he's going to eat.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Can you change it to something else?
- 8:34Speaker 1: But I did it every time, and I ate whatever came,
- 8:37Speaker 1: and I thought that it was always a rare steak.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So I love the idea of that, and I love
- 8:42Speaker 1: how many people that go eat, you know, with their
- 8:45Speaker 1: family and think that that's a weekend out Because to
- 8:47Speaker 1: the kids, I think it is, Yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 5: That's awesome, and why you're ordering a steak for my
- 8:50Speaker 5: hop I'd be to your ten year old kid, I
- 8:52Speaker 5: get it, but you know they can hit you in
- 8:54Speaker 5: the head with that and you'll be concussed.
- 8:56Speaker 2: That's true.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It was anywhere, like literally anywhere. I think.
- 8:59Speaker 1: We'd go to Tcby Frozen Yogurt and I'd be like
- 9:01Speaker 1: steak medium rare, please, And then I'd go sit down
- 9:03Speaker 1: and they'd be like that that boy is broken. He'd
- 9:06Speaker 1: get some kind of problem going on with him. Priever,
- 9:10Speaker 1: my grandfather was thrilled though, by the way. Every time
- 9:13Speaker 1: we'd tell him, he'd be like, this's a good man,
- 9:14Speaker 1: good young man right there. We also have a story
- 9:17Speaker 1: about oh yeah, actually, we'll hold it. I have a
- 9:19Speaker 1: story about a weird gecko that we'll tell later on
- 9:21Speaker 1: in the show. The big Stuff coming out in just
- 9:23Speaker 1: a bit.
