- 0:03S1: Bluetooth device is connected successfully.
- 0:07S2: Jay and dunk the Rock drive.
- 0:09S3: And I'm like, whatever.
- 0:11S4: You are there we are. Welcome to rock drive. It
- 0:14S4: is the 21st of October, a Wednesday whack it up Wednesday,
- 0:18S4: as we say around these parts, mate.
- 0:20S5: I'm gonna whack this one right up for you. Dunk. Uh,
- 0:22S5: what do you wish that you could do? But you
- 0:25S5: actually can't. It's one of those. It's an age old question.
- 0:29S5: We're being. We're asking for a little bit of honesty.
- 0:31S5: Probably more serious than than smutty would be where we're
- 0:34S5: leaning with this one as well. So if there was
- 0:37S5: a sport or if there was a vocation or a
- 0:39S5: skill set, uh, off the bat for me, I'd love
- 0:42S5: to be able to do real slick welding.
- 0:45S4: Welding is yeah, another hobby.
- 0:48S5: Yeah. I tell you what, welder at about 10 to 5,
- 0:52S5: you're going to be parked up for 20 minutes while
- 0:54S5: I rattle off the list of the stuff that I
- 0:55S5: could do in the meantime, uh, get it through three, five,
- 0:58S5: two zero, give us a text and we'll read some
- 1:00S5: of the best of those out as well.
- 1:01S4: Benny boys bringing a new, uh, came to the show
- 1:04S4: as well. Timelines that'll blow your mind.
- 1:07S6: Get that link in the show notes.
- 1:11S7: Mind benders. Whoa whoa whoa whoa. The big bend is
- 1:17S7: blowing my mind.
- 1:24S4: Speaking of bends. Here's Benny Boy.
- 1:26S7: G'day.
- 1:27S8: I came across some interesting facts, but I thought I'd
- 1:29S8: turn it into a game for you guys. Mind blowing,
- 1:31S8: mind bending timelines. Okay, so you got it. You can
- 1:34S8: play along wherever you are in the car at home.
- 1:36S8: You just got to tell me if it's true or
- 1:38S8: false when I make these statements.
- 1:40S5: So just keep a count. Keep a tally. Personal tally
- 1:43S5: and then text us in and we might reward the
- 1:45S5: actual winner. Cheat. And you're a dog.
- 1:47S4: Yeah, I was just going to say, if it was me,
- 1:48S4: I'd just lie on the text machine and try and
- 1:50S4: get the prize.
- 1:51S5: So an honest guy. See if there's one thing. So
- 1:53S5: there's j. Honest, Rafe. Carry on. Benny, you're.
- 1:54S8: Going. All righty. The T rex lived closer to the
- 1:57S8: creation of the iPhone than to the Stegosaurus. True or false?
- 2:00S4: True.
- 2:01S5: True.
- 2:02S8: It is true that Mr. Brightside was written before doctors
- 2:07S8: had identified every organ in the human body.
- 2:09S4: True. False.
- 2:12S8: It is true. Mr. Brightside was.
- 2:14S4: Released.
- 2:16S8: In 2001, and in 2018, doctors discovered a new human
- 2:20S8: organ that had previously gone unnoticed for centuries. Called the Interstitium.
- 2:25S4: Wonder what that.
- 2:25S5: Does. What is the Interstitium do?
- 2:27S4: It's like a.
- 2:28S8: Big old absorbing sock thing that just absorbs stuff. Like a.
- 2:32S5: Sock. Yes. Thank you very much, Doctor Ben. Carry on. On,
- 2:37S5: on with your rounds.
- 2:39S4: There's the video.
- 2:43S7: Um.
- 2:44S8: Shucks.
- 2:45S4: We might get you in to do some more medical
- 2:48S4: things tomorrow.
- 2:48S8: You can just. People can just phone me with their
- 2:50S8: problems and I'll tell you how to fix them.
- 2:51S5: Well, you've got to absorb your soggy thing.
- 2:53S4: Sharks.
- 2:54S8: Sharks are older than trees.
- 2:56S5: Yes, true.
- 2:57S4: Really? Okay, I'm gonna go with you. Sounded quite convinced.
- 3:00S8: Yes. shark's 450 million years old trees 350 million years old.
- 3:06S5: And when you think the only reason I know this
- 3:07S5: is because I watched that, um, Morgan Freeman dinosaurs setup. Oh, yeah. Um,
- 3:12S5: they're talking about. It's like you go, what was on
- 3:14S5: the earth before trees? I can tell you what sweet
- 3:16S5: f a like mosses and ferns.
- 3:19S4: And that's what was on earth before t-rexes the tuatara.
- 3:23S8: Chuck Norris.
- 3:25S4: The tuataras 200 million years old.
- 3:28S5: Have to say, saw one at Kelly Tarlton's, of all places.
- 3:32S4: What do they have one there for?
- 3:33S5: No idea.
- 3:34S4: How do you have been moving much?
- 3:36S5: Not a hell of a lot. How do you get.
- 3:38S5: How does one get their hands on a tuatara? And
- 3:40S5: how many of them are in the wild? Is the
- 3:42S5: question I have for you.
- 3:44S4: I don't know the answer to that. Let them carry on.
- 3:46S8: Well, while we're on the flora and fauna, grasshoppers existed
- 3:49S8: before grass did.
- 3:52S4: I'm gonna say true.
- 3:53S5: I'm gonna say false.
- 3:55S8: It's true. Grasshoppers appeared 250 million years ago. True grass grasses.
- 4:01S8: 70 million years ago.
- 4:03S4: I got an inkling the next one is also going
- 4:05S4: to be true. Do you.
- 4:07S8: Reckon? Okay. All the common honeybee is older than our moon.
- 4:14S5: No.
- 4:14S4: False.
- 4:15S8: Yeah. It's false. 4.5 billion years old. The moon. Whereas
- 4:20S8: bee fossils are 100 million years old. Okay, I've got two.
- 4:23S8: Three more for you guys. Okay. The fax machine was
- 4:26S8: invented before we discovered Pluto.
- 4:30S4: True.
- 4:32S5: True.
- 4:33S8: It is true.
- 4:33S9: Pluto wasn't discovered until 1930.
- 4:36S8: Fax machines were in 1846, 1846, 1846 was when it
- 4:41S8: was invented.
- 4:42S5: I wonder what they used as a ring binder then
- 4:44S5: to keep all the nerdy ones that they'd send around
- 4:46S5: between the dads and all the mechanics.
- 4:49S4: Not long after the, um, the phone a straight on
- 4:52S4: to the next invention.
- 4:54S8: Straight on to the next one.
- 4:55S5: How were they printing it? Oh. Anyway.
- 4:58S8: Anyway, crabs are older than fire.
- 5:04S5: True.
- 5:05S8: Earth did not have enough. An atmosphere with enough oxygen
- 5:08S8: to produce fire until 400 million years ago. Whereas the
- 5:11S8: first crabs appeared only 200 million years ago. False. False.
- 5:17S8: Last two.
- 5:18S4: Yes.
- 5:18S8: The Zippo lighter was invented 150 years before the first
- 5:21S8: phone call was made.
- 5:23S4: Correct.
- 5:24S5: I would say true.
- 5:25S8: False.
- 5:26S4: Oh.
- 5:27S8: Phones were invented in 1876, and Zippo lighters did not
- 5:30S8: come about until 1933.
- 5:32S5: Oh, that's real late in the piece. I got excited then.
- 5:34S5: Carry on.
- 5:34S8: Last one. Jay Reeves liver is older than the rest
- 5:37S8: of his body by a factor of six.
- 5:41S4: That was.
- 5:42S5: We all know that just by looking at me.
- 5:44S6: Thanks for listening. Big whoop.
- 5:45S4: Um, the story out of Auckland overnight. I don't know
- 5:48S4: if you saw the um the, the picture of it,
- 5:51S4: but it was pretty intense. A Belgian base jumper was
- 5:54S4: left hanging from the 23rd floor of an Auckland hotel
- 5:57S4: last night. So climb to the top, jumped off, then
- 6:00S4: got blown back into it and then his chute got
- 6:02S4: caught on the side. Uh, great quote from him. It
- 6:06S4: did not go as planned.
- 6:09S5: Is this the same bloke that went off the, um,
- 6:11S5: the building that was.
- 6:12S4: Yes, it was the incomplete one, um skyscraper in Auckland
- 6:16S4: last year I think earlier this year.
- 6:18S5: Yeah. Yeah. Not that, not that long ago.
- 6:20S4: Yeah.
- 6:20S5: Play silly games. Win sillier prizes.
- 6:23S4: Yeah. It's an interesting one a like. Yeah. Do you
- 6:25S4: think he's come here just to do that.
- 6:27S5: I would say that he's on holiday here and he's
- 6:29S5: spotted a couple of those things and going oh yeah sweet.
- 6:31S5: The one instantly makes my hand sweat.
- 6:34S4: Oh that bloke.
- 6:35S5: The 15 year old kid that climbed that and then
- 6:38S5: went up literally makes me sweat.
- 6:40S4: I don't want to talk about it.
- 6:42S5: He climbed up. Um, the, a building that kind of
- 6:46S5: fell into, well, basically the developers in the bank that
- 6:49S5: were funding it fell out. And so it's basically been
- 6:52S5: left half finished. But on top of it is this
- 6:54S5: massive like crane. and he went all the way to
- 6:57S5: the top of it and hung one handed on the crane,
- 7:00S5: hanging out over like it is just about drenched in sweat.
- 7:05S4: I can't even fathom what it would be like to
- 7:08S4: be that boy's parents.
- 7:10S5: I can't even fathom what it would be. See, this
- 7:12S5: is my issue. Is that because I'm such a heavy sweater.
- 7:15S5: As soon as I get up there, I panic and
- 7:17S5: my hand would just become, like, so greasy that you'd
- 7:20S5: just go and just disappear.
- 7:22S4: I mean, it's very difficult for us to imagine what, like,
- 7:24S4: how it could be easy to do that, to be
- 7:25S4: in such heavy set blokes. I mean, the heaviest, the
- 7:28S4: heavy weights of drive radio as we are.
- 7:31S5: Um, whereas the muscle is heavier than fat. Eh. Yeah.
- 7:33S5: Something like that.
- 7:34S4: Yeah yeah yeah for sure.
- 7:36S5: Um but yeah, the, the um I guess the lack
- 7:39S5: of intelligence or the pure thrill seeking.
- 7:45S4: It's just not switched on that part of the brain obviously,
- 7:47S4: which is. Yeah.
- 7:48S5: But to his credit and a pass or fail game
- 7:52S5: like that, he passed this time.
- 7:55S6: Strap in and send it rock drive with Jay and Dunk.
- 8:00S4: We see Lee in here as well, posing the question
- 8:03S4: what do you wish you could do but can't? Yeah.
- 8:05S4: So my brother was over from Melbourne a couple of
- 8:07S4: months ago, and he woke up in the morning and
- 8:10S4: was like, bro, dude, can you get me some Panadol?
- 8:12S4: I was like, yeah, bro, of course. And I threw
- 8:14S4: him a card of Panadol and he just popped two
- 8:16S4: in his mouth and dry swallowed them neat. And I
- 8:20S4: said to him, I was like, I can do that. Oh, bro,
- 8:22S4: you're so cool. Like that is honestly that. Are you
- 8:26S4: telling me you're so cool, but you're watching a movie
- 8:29S4: and you see someone? Oh, man, I'm so hungover. Oh, yeah. Tylenol.
- 8:33S4: Throw it in, buff it. Nate. I would love to
- 8:36S4: be able to dry swallow a pill, but I can't
- 8:38S4: do it. And I said to Adam, I was like,
- 8:39S4: did you just do that without water? And he goes, yeah,
- 8:41S4: I'm a badass. Yeah. And I was like, oh yeah,
- 8:43S4: you are.
- 8:44S5: That is an elite skill.
- 8:45S4: I'd love to do it, but I can't.
- 8:47S10: I quite often I'll, um, pre moisten the mouth, like
- 8:50S10: get a, you know, get it going a bit. So
- 8:52S10: it's got something to work with once it goes in
- 8:54S10: even cooler.
- 8:55S5: Give us give us the roadmap to that.
- 9:01S10: Oh no. That's a subscription based model. That one you
- 9:04S10: have to pay for that. Um are we. Wow. No
- 9:08S10: laughing involved in this one.
- 9:09S4: No. No serious, no laughing, no budgets. What would you
- 9:13S4: love to be able to do? But you can't.
- 9:15S10: Barefoot water ski.
- 9:17S5: Have you given it a go though?
- 9:18S10: No. And that's a big part of the reason why
- 9:21S10: I can't do it. I've never given it a go. Yeah,
- 9:24S10: I think it's just like a cool like I'd keep
- 9:26S10: it real down low, but anytime the water skiing opportunity
- 9:30S10: would come up, I would allow someone to offer me
- 9:33S10: the water skis to use for skiing. And then I'd say,
- 9:36S10: it's okay, I don't need those.
- 9:37S5: Just keep giving it the thumbs up and then do
- 9:39S5: the step out.
- 9:40S10: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:41S4: You're locked into those, mate. Don't need them.
- 9:43S5: Yeah. And it's that's that is pretty impressive. I would
- 9:46S5: love to be able to sail and or just whip
- 9:51S5: a boat up to a doc. Just throw it into
- 9:54S5: a doc. You know how, like when you watch Game
- 9:56S5: Fishes and these massive big launches, flooring it in reverse
- 10:00S5: up to the to the weigh station with seconds to spare.
- 10:04S5: And they come. They've coming in so hot and the
- 10:07S5: bloke's not even looking at the front of the boat,
- 10:09S5: just backing it in at pace. That is impressive to me.
- 10:12S10: What a little like to go on with that, we thought.
- 10:15S10: So how does everyone feel about being able to say
- 10:17S10: they've parked the Interislander ferry? That's pretty pretty. That's a
- 10:21S10: mega flick. So yeah, Benny boy.
- 10:24S8: I wish I was mechanical, eh, I'd love to be
- 10:26S8: able to, like, fix up cars, like take an old
- 10:28S8: beat up, you know, beater and then turn it into
- 10:30S8: something beautiful.
- 10:31S5: Like Guy Martin.
- 10:32S8: Eh, yeah. Like guy. I was even on a base
- 10:34S8: level just to have, you know, I'd like I struggle
- 10:36S8: to fill up my car with gas, you know, that's
- 10:38S8: the level I'm working at.
- 10:39S5: Like the amount of times you've melted the windscreen wiper,
- 10:41S5: washer reservoir, dam it again.
- 10:45S10: And then like, do you know another one that I
- 10:47S10: wish I could do, but I can't. It's like, um,
- 10:49S10: like joinery, like as in like woodworking, like proper super
- 10:54S10: fine details. Um, good friend of the show and, uh,
- 10:58S10: Dave Groat, man. Some of the stuff he puts up
- 11:00S10: on his Instagram was like, oh my gosh, he's incredible.
- 11:03S5: Yeah. And I mentioned it earlier in the show, being
- 11:06S5: able to lay down a row of pennies in terms
- 11:08S5: of being able to weld like people that weld are
- 11:12S5: artists melting stars and joining elements together like it is unreal. Pricey.
- 11:18S5: Luke Price, who's one of the Mad Dogs and obviously
- 11:20S5: a valued member of the team here at the Rock drive,
- 11:22S5: has offered to to show he would beat the living
- 11:26S5: shit out of him. He would be so unimpressed if
- 11:29S5: he was to stand over me and watch me do that.
- 11:31S10: Oh great call from Patty. An epic level, uh, car,
- 11:35S10: epic level of card and sleight of hand magic like
- 11:38S10: David Blaine. Yeah. Um, someone else has said. Mitchell said,
- 11:42S10: regrow my hairline.
- 11:43S5: Yeah, I reckon like a, like real slick like they
- 11:46S5: do at project on the fillet.
- 11:48S10: Oh, yeah. Just like cranking them out with your eyes closed, basically.
- 11:52S5: Home butchery. On a on a on a carcass.
- 11:55S10: Roger says, I wish I could fly a wingsuit. It's
- 11:58S10: not even legal to try until we've done 200 jumps
- 12:00S10: from a plane with an 18 months prior to your
- 12:03S10: first attempt. Amongst other restrictions, that's. I mean, probably fair enough,
- 12:07S10: but crazy. Um, Peter says, I wish I could spend
- 12:10S10: a week at the space station. That would be the
- 12:12S10: ultimate experience. That would be cool.
- 12:15S4: I would.
- 12:15S5: There's one here from Ken. I'd love to be proficient
- 12:18S5: with a Bo staff.
- 12:21S4: My man.
- 12:23S5: Matt is keen on you getting the call up when
- 12:25S5: it all goes to hell in a handbasket.
- 12:27S4: I'd love to give barefoot water skiing a go with you, bro.
- 12:29S4: But my concern is that because I've got a clubfoot
- 12:31S4: that I'll just go in circles.
- 12:35S10: We could do beer belly skiing.
- 12:37S4: Oh, mate, I'm the king of that. Like an elephant seal.
- 12:41S5: Big. We see a big clearing out every single whitebaiting
- 12:44S5: station on the Waka.
- 12:46S6: Jay and dunk sitting in a tree. KISSI. Okay. That's weird.
- 12:52S6: Rock drive.
- 12:52S5: I was listening to the award winning Morning Rumble this morning,
- 12:55S5: and by jeez, I got stopped in my tracks, buckled
- 12:58S5: in the buckled in the kitchen. They were basically talking about, um,
- 13:02S5: you know, the parameters which are set around sharing things
- 13:05S5: as a partnership. Here's Mao talking about it.
- 13:08S11: It's a story popped up yesterday. It's from Ozzy. And
- 13:10S11: it seems to be this bathroom habit that is dividing
- 13:13S11: a lot of couples. In fact, it caused so much
- 13:15S11: debate that they took to the streets and were asking
- 13:18S11: people what they thought. And it's whether sharing a bath
- 13:21S11: towel with your partner is harmless or completely disgusting.
- 13:25S5: Okay, so what are you running? Are you would you
- 13:27S5: and Deco Chang Chang be sharing a towel? Yeah, yeah.
- 13:30S10: There's just a bunch on the rack I just grabbed.
- 13:32S5: You don't have you don't have a place on the
- 13:33S5: heated towel rail where they hang out? It doesn't say
- 13:35S5: King Duncan. You know what, Queen Hyde?
- 13:38S10: Sometimes the bath mat will even get put on top
- 13:40S10: of the bath towel. And I'll still use the towel
- 13:42S10: underneath it as long as it doesn't stink.
- 13:44S5: Do you share drink bottles?
- 13:46S10: Yes.
- 13:47S5: Do you share toothbrushes?
- 13:48S10: No way.
- 13:50S5: So that's where you draw the line?
- 13:52S10: It's a weird thing I've got. It's one of the
- 13:55S10: only acts I've got. But the next one I know
- 13:58S10: you've got written down there.
- 13:59S5: Do you share deodorant?
- 14:00S10: No. No, no. Maybe once or twice. I've done it.
- 14:04S10: For some reason. I don't find it as gross because
- 14:05S10: Dixie doesn't have hairy armpits. But when you asked to
- 14:08S10: have a hold on, my dough still makes you feel dropped. Weirdly, though,
- 14:13S10: I would share a toothpick.
- 14:15S5: What?
- 14:16S10: Yeah. Bizarro. I don't know what it is.
- 14:19S5: Grimur. Do you have a. Do you have a side
- 14:21S5: of the beard? And do you ever alternate?
- 14:22S10: Uh, yeah, we just swapped about a month ago, and
- 14:25S10: it's quite good because I'm fat and I've scalloped out
- 14:27S10: out my side. And then we swapped and I got
- 14:29S10: a real mean mattress topper, but now it's good.
- 14:33S5: Um, do you talk whilst on the toilet? So if
- 14:36S5: you were crimping off a chimp's finger you could literally
- 14:38S5: have a conversation.
- 14:39S10: I've got young kids. Basically all three of them will
- 14:41S10: come as soon as you sit down to go and
- 14:43S10: do your private business. All three of them will need
- 14:45S10: to ask you something. So it's just you may as
- 14:47S10: well have a like a barn door on our toilet.
- 14:49S5: Do you have, um.
- 14:50S10: Didn't even have a one on for two years at
- 14:52S10: the last place.
- 14:56S5: It was a rogue operation. Do you have an incident
- 15:00S5: or does it happen? Where do you have. You've got
- 15:02S5: a shower that has a toilet in it. Yeah. So
- 15:05S5: would you say, for example, if you have a shower.
- 15:08S5: Here we go. And I walked in and goes, well,
- 15:11S5: the guts are a bit upset. Now hang on a second.
- 15:13S5: I just need to just need to smash one out
- 15:15S5: here while you're in there and just have a chat
- 15:16S5: while you're having a shower.
- 15:17S10: And I draw the line there. Yeah, there's other there's
- 15:20S10: another toilet, so, you know, go and destroy the kids one.
- 15:24S10: But that's a general rule. That's an unwritten rule between
- 15:27S10: new and Dixie. If it's getting too hectic.
- 15:28S5: Is there.
- 15:29S10: Do it in the toilet.
- 15:32S5: Take it to Ground zero.
- 15:35S10: It's already a mess anyway.
- 15:36S5: What? What are the things that you are just not
- 15:40S5: willing to share and like, every day? Like, would you,
- 15:44S5: you know, like someone like eating toast and those sort
- 15:46S5: of things. I know people that like, don't touch my food.
- 15:48S10: I mean, it annoys me. It's just like, I don't know, like,
- 15:51S10: there's so many times a partner will go, oh, can
- 15:54S10: I have a bite of that? Like they hadn't thought
- 15:56S10: about eating what you're eating, you know, but I only
- 15:58S10: made the amount that I required. Yeah. And then so
- 16:02S10: someone coming in and doing a dinosaur bite, taking 20%
- 16:05S10: off a bit, a bit, a bit of a toast.
- 16:07S10: I'm just like, oh, that's tough. Now I'm now I'm like,
- 16:11S10: am I gonna have to go put in another piece?
- 16:13S10: Normally it'll be, what do you want me to make
- 16:15S10: you a piece?
- 16:17S5: Do you would you like me to make your piece? No, no, no,
- 16:18S5: I just want a bite of your bite. I'm just
- 16:21S5: going through the menu, and that is not there. There
- 16:23S5: is not. I'll just have a bite of yours on
- 16:25S5: the menu today. But then they wrapped it.
- 16:26S10: So what about when someone asks her when they ask
- 16:28S10: for a bite of your burger? Burger? Um, uh, when
- 16:32S10: they asked for a bite of your burger. But you've
- 16:33S10: done all the hard work from the outside, you're right
- 16:35S10: in the middle. And you know, there's a sweet couple
- 16:37S10: of bites in the middle of a burger where it
- 16:38S10: is the best bit of burger, and they go, can
- 16:40S10: I buy.
- 16:41S5: Just that bit?
- 16:41S4: Oh.
- 16:42S10: Right. When I've done all the hard work, you want
- 16:44S10: to take one of the good bites.
- 16:45S5: Charlie can't share Dari? Absolutely no chance of that. But
- 16:48S5: then they wrapped it up. Um, when they were talking
- 16:50S5: about how Rodge had the um how Rodge had basically
- 16:54S5: borrowed a little g banger. Wait till you hear this.
- 16:56S5: But it's awesome.
- 16:57S6: Enjoying this podcast. I get more of the boys on
- 17:01S6: their other podcast, not for radio uncensored yarns, naughty and
- 17:05S6: laughs with the lads wherever you get your podcasts.
- 17:08S10: Rumble on this one this morning. Too good not to
- 17:10S10: carry it on. What do you share with your partner
- 17:12S10: and where do you draw the line? As the question
- 17:14S10: someone just text in saying I'm with Duncan not sharing toothbrushes,
- 17:17S10: I'd happily swap chewing gum with a partner. Um, but
- 17:21S10: for some reason, I don't know, the toothbrush is pretty weird.
- 17:24S10: By the way, guys, do you still need to put
- 17:25S10: studio at the start of these messages or no longer required?
- 17:28S10: It's no longer required.
- 17:29S5: It's all good.
- 17:30S10: Yeah.
- 17:31S5: Um, this, uh, real funny about sharing personal items. Um,
- 17:35S5: this is from. I'll just say it. Jenny. Um, my
- 17:39S5: fella's a hairy mofo, so definitely not sharing a towel
- 17:42S5: because he he Won't share a two.
- 17:46S10: Year marriage to Bigfoot.
- 17:48S5: Won't share a toothbrush, loofah, deodorant, pillow, a bite of
- 17:52S5: what I'm eating? Nothing. We share the bed. But he
- 17:55S5: has his side and I've got mine.
- 17:57S10: Geez, just wrap your head around that. Imagine dating an
- 18:01S10: ultra hairy guy and then going to use his loofah
- 18:06S10: in the shower, and it just been covered like a
- 18:09S10: dropped lollipop.
- 18:11S5: Well, there's my what's tough for me if there's a
- 18:14S5: hair anywhere. If there is a if there is a
- 18:16S5: hair anywhere in our bathroom, there's no passing the buck.
- 18:20S5: This is literally mannequin bald, not a not a follicle
- 18:24S5: on her entire body.
- 18:26S10: Yeah. Judging by the back of your head. I know
- 18:27S10: where they're coming from. Can I just say, for the record.
- 18:32S10: I'm genuinely excited for you to get your retread. Now's
- 18:36S10: the perfect time of year to do it. Why aren't
- 18:37S10: you doing it now?
- 18:38S5: Because then you roll into summer. I need it on
- 18:39S5: the other side of summer after it's been scorched to buggery.
- 18:42S10: Oh, so you want to go?
- 18:44S5: Do you want to go in one time?
- 18:45S10: I mean, you're gonna have to go sooner rather than later,
- 18:47S10: if I'm being completely honest. Yeah, but don't let it
- 18:49S10: go too long. Otherwise, you will have two people that
- 18:51S10: look like thumbs on the show.
- 18:53S5: We leave it another year and there's nothing to stitch back.
- 18:56S5: But anyway, they wrapped up this morning with the award
- 18:58S5: winning Morning Rumble wrapped up this morning after. I don't
- 19:02S5: know how it came about. I know, I do know
- 19:04S5: how it came about. They told it. That's probably what
- 19:05S5: made it so funny. Rogers thought that his gorgeous wife
- 19:09S5: looked super hot in a G-string, so he was like,
- 19:11S5: I wonder if I would look as good.
- 19:15S12: He did it! Hahaha. Oh.
- 19:19S5: The delivery across the board was unreal. And so anyway,
- 19:23S5: he wore it to work. And then what? Yeah. And
- 19:26S5: then his wife found out about it. Bender. But then
- 19:31S5: Miles came back with an absolute cracker. And just. If
- 19:35S5: you can. At 430. Close your eyes and just visualize
- 19:39S5: how it gets described.
- 19:41S13: I was wearing and I don't know.
- 19:44S4: Hang on everyone I know. I know what he's gonna say.
- 19:47S4: And this is a beauty. Make this a sweet image.
- 19:49S4: What did you wear of your wife's Rodge?
- 19:51S13: I was wearing Lisa's panties. And this is a true story,
- 19:55S13: and I don't. This may seem strange. I don't know why.
- 19:58S13: Because it was so. It was so long ago, wasn't it, Bryce?
- 20:01S13: Years and years and years ago.
- 20:02S11: Oh, you wore them to work?
- 20:03S13: Yes, I did, and I don't know why to this day,
- 20:06S13: but I did and I we talked about it on air.
- 20:08S4: G or briefs. G like it was a GAG string.
- 20:12S13: Yeah.
- 20:13S4: It was cos it came up because we were talking about.
- 20:14S4: Have you ever worn a G string. Yes. And then
- 20:16S4: you said you had. Yeah. And we were like oh
- 20:18S4: do tell more. Yeah. And then in true rock fashion,
- 20:20S4: you told us too much. And you're like, oh, well,
- 20:22S4: Lisa's wants to work.
- 20:23S13: I did.
- 20:23S4: And it was, I think if I remember right, it
- 20:24S4: was to you wanted to see how it felt. And
- 20:26S4: you also thought it looked hot on her so it
- 20:28S4: would make you feel hot.
- 20:30S13: Yes.
- 20:32S12: You did know you were here?
- 20:33S13: Oh, yeah, no I did. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. And so.
- 20:36S4: Or did you try to claim accident first?
- 20:39S13: I might have.
- 20:39S4: Did it look like a. Did it look like a.
- 20:42S4: Strop trying to tie down a big old bit of
- 20:46S4: garden waste. You know, you take a cage trailer. And
- 20:51S4: you've just got. You've just hacked into the bush and you've.
- 20:55S4: And you've got this one strop that's just hanging on
- 20:58S4: for dear life over the top of it. Save it all.
- 21:00S4: The foliage isn't flying out on the motorway going to
- 21:03S4: the tap. Imagine what the thing is. The thing is
- 21:06S4: the thing that I haven't told you about the story.
- 21:08S4: He had it on backwards.
- 21:11S12: Oh my.
- 21:12S4: God. Oh mate.
- 21:14S5: I.
- 21:15S10: Oh, that is.
- 21:16S5: Terrible. I was falling apart. Absolutely falling apart. And then
- 21:20S5: Moses description of this strop over garden waste. Text podcast
- 21:27S5: to get the award winning Morning Rambles podcast. They were
- 21:30S5: just I mean, I don't know what they're just in
- 21:33S5: the sweet spot at the moment. They're just everything's a
- 21:36S5: home run. It's so good. shit.
- 21:39S10: It's funny. Like a strop tying down a Swiss ball.
- 21:49S5: And then just.
- 21:50S12: Sit on the radio.
- 21:51S5: They started this like.
- 21:53S10: People are gonna remember him as they do the Deep
- 21:55S10: Voice award. G strings.
- 21:57S5: It's a it's a look more like a sack of onions.
- 22:03S5: To which someone replied, it's like a tide rolled roast.
- 22:08S6: Rock drive with Jay and Dunk.
- 22:11S10: Yesterday on.
- 22:12S7: The show.
- 22:13S10: We were chatting about something called boot uh, which is
- 22:16S10: probably one of the most gloriously ridiculous sports that we've
- 22:19S10: ever seen. It's basically medieval knights. We're in full suits
- 22:24S10: of armor, absolutely smashing the living snot out of each
- 22:27S10: other with swords and axes and maces. Not not pretend fighting.
- 22:32S5: No. This is this is we found out the rules.
- 22:35S5: There's basically no, uh, twisting heads off shoulders and hitting
- 22:39S5: behind the neck and.
- 22:39S10: Can't stab them.
- 22:40S5: Can't go stabby stabby. The blunted swords and blunted instruments,
- 22:45S5: but they can be used with absolute maximum ferocity.
- 22:49S10: So, uh, we naturally were intrigued by this. Uh, there's
- 22:53S10: also team fights, which I find quite good. You can
- 22:55S10: do from as little as five on 5 to 100
- 22:58S10: on 100 and the bigger parts of the budget. Uh, realm.
- 23:02S5: Is it boo boo.
- 23:04S10: Boo boo boo boo boo boo boo boo boo like boot.
- 23:07S10: But googled it this morning. So I got it right. Um,
- 23:10S10: now we, um, thought, gee, wouldn't it be good if
- 23:14S10: we can, um, one of us with a weapon we
- 23:17S10: since found out, um, rich Leslie from No Mercy Metalworks
- 23:20S10: specializes in building medieval weapons.
- 23:23S5: And can I just say before we actually get to
- 23:26S5: what it is that we're looking at, just what a
- 23:29S5: time to have that skill set as well. Like it's
- 23:33S5: just back in the day. Rich would be like straight
- 23:37S5: armor to the kings and queens, you know, like he
- 23:39S5: is just an operator with the stuff that he makes
- 23:42S5: it looks sick. Um, and when we asked what we
- 23:46S5: could get for this team member that's fighting great music.
- 23:50S10: Had a couple of options, he said the first two
- 23:54S10: options he can throw at me, he's got them laying
- 23:55S10: around at the moment. They'd go straight through the armor
- 23:58S10: and pierce it and cause a lot of damage, though
- 24:00S10: that's psycho. And I was like, well, let's not kill
- 24:02S10: someone on our first outing. And to be hurt.
- 24:04S5: How about a spiky, bald mace?
- 24:07S10: We pretty much have got what you're asking for there, J.
- 24:10S10: I've got a picture of it, and this is what
- 24:12S10: he's building for us in the next week or so.
- 24:14S5: Because it does take a bit.
- 24:18S10: So if you'd like to describe what you see there,
- 24:20S10: it's about what will there be five foot long.
- 24:22S4: Um.
- 24:23S10: Massive, big like broomstick but thicker. And then on the
- 24:27S10: end of it it's got like four half diamonds, spikes heads. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:31S10: Basically axe heads of, of hardened steel.
- 24:34S5: It's like a death sceptre so you could use it for.
- 24:37S5: You could use it for charging with. But you'd also
- 24:40S5: swing it like a baseball bat and you'd clean up.
- 24:43S10: And Benny boy, you. I've got full faith in you,
- 24:47S10: and you are going to be amazing in a few
- 24:49S10: weeks time when we organize it. Now, you were chatting
- 24:50S10: to the ring leader of one of these gangs.
- 24:53S8: Yeah. I had a chat with Colm yesterday who was, um.
- 24:56S8: He was very kind, but they want more people involved
- 24:58S8: in the sport. So I had a yarn to him.
- 25:00S8: He suggested that I actually go and do some trainings
- 25:02S8: with them first using the padded instruments, before they put
- 25:05S8: me in a full suit of armor and send me
- 25:07S8: to do battle in a field.
- 25:08S12: Do you feel like.
- 25:09S7: Training is for losers?
- 25:11S8: I feel like I don't want a lasting concussion for
- 25:13S8: the rest of my life, so maybe I should learn
- 25:15S8: how to block.
- 25:16S10: What did I say? No head shots.
- 25:17S8: What? Yeah, just crotch shots only.
- 25:19S10: Yeah. Or two? Two helmets.
- 25:20S8: Yeah. He was saying it's what it takes, like up
- 25:22S8: to 40 minutes to get a full suit of armor on.
- 25:25S8: It's not like you don't just. You don't just jump
- 25:26S8: in and go. You've got to be fully fitted to it.
- 25:28S8: So I've got to send them all my measurements and
- 25:30S8: stuff like that. Then we're going to we're going to
- 25:32S8: go out into someone's paddock and bash each other with
- 25:34S8: metal instruments.
- 25:35S10: I can think of worse ways to spend my Saturday afternoon.
- 25:38S10: I'm looking forward to this.
- 25:39S5: Hopefully you can slide the the metal pest, um, sunnies
- 25:44S5: underneath it so we can just get a real POV
- 25:47S5: shot on what it's like to be inside.
- 25:48S8: Yeah, it's going.
- 25:49S5: To be hearing your bell rung.
- 25:50S8: Just a massive sword flying towards my face and then
- 25:54S8: just the sky for half an hour.
- 25:55S10: Brad's asked if you need a squire.
- 25:57S5: Do you need a squire? Kind sir?
- 25:58S8: I would love a squire. Actually, actually, can I ride
- 26:00S8: Brad into battle?
- 26:01S10: Well, I mean, I've he's written more weird things than that,
- 26:04S10: so he'd probably say yes. So have you.
- 26:07S5: Um, we're not talking about Brad the boss. Just some
- 26:10S5: Brad that listens to the show.
- 26:12S4: Oh, okay.
- 26:13S8: I saw Brad the boss into battle, if that's okay.
- 26:15S5: I would like a horse back on him like a Minotaur.
- 26:18S10: I love it, I, I love it how most blokes, uh,
- 26:20S10: beat his age are getting into golf or low and
- 26:22S10: slow barbecuing or something like that. Benny's getting a medieval
- 26:25S10: whip and commission so he can go into battle.
- 26:27S8: That was an awesome discussion last night with my wife.
- 26:29S8: I was like, how was your day? And she was
- 26:30S8: talking about the new campaigns at work, you know, workplace dramas.
- 26:33S8: She was like, how was your day? And I was like, well,
- 26:35S8: I've signed up for medieval Fighting Stick.
- 26:37S10: I win. Yes.
- 26:39S5: I need a hogshead. And I will see you in
- 26:41S5: the boudoir.
- 26:42S10: Great call of the Squire. I'm Brad. I mean, he's
- 26:44S10: asked first, so maybe we should give it to him.
- 26:46S10: But if he can't make it, there'll be. Maybe he
- 26:47S10: can have more than one squire. Is that a thing?
- 26:51S5: You probably do. I don't know. Can you believe I
- 26:53S5: look like it? But I wasn't around back then.
- 26:55S10: And during this break. Can you please Google? Is there
- 26:57S10: such thing as a posse of squires?
- 26:59S6: Yeah. The boys rock drive with Jay and Dunk.
- 27:02S10: Yeah. Your old mates Jay and Dunk Midwest Lee in
- 27:05S10: here as well.
- 27:06S5: Oh yeah. From bleeding gums Westie.
- 27:10S4: Do you.
- 27:10S5: Know what? There's been something missing from my life. I've
- 27:12S5: felt um.
- 27:14S10: Incomplete.
- 27:14S5: A little bit incomplete. Like there was a part of
- 27:16S5: me that just wasn't there anymore. And now that I
- 27:19S5: hold this trumpet in my hand.
- 27:21S10: I've never actually held it.
- 27:21S5: Can I feel the weight of a trumpet? Yeah. She goes, good.
- 27:24S10: Okay, the reason why we're talking about the trumpet. Oh,
- 27:26S10: that is cool.
- 27:28S5: Do you want to just give it a do you
- 27:29S5: want it? So obviously we're not very good at. You're
- 27:32S5: holding it well. Um. You don't.
- 27:40S12: Oh.
- 27:40S5: Impressive. That's impressive.
- 27:43S10: I'll actually give it a proper go later in the show.
- 27:45S10: But the reason why we have a trumpet, we have
- 27:47S10: a real trumpet in the studio is because we've got
- 27:48S10: a segment called Blow Your Own Trumpet. Kiwis traditionally are
- 27:51S10: terrible at blowing their own trumpet. When we do something great,
- 27:54S10: Kiwis go, oh yeah, wasn't much. Oh, you know, but
- 27:57S10: someone else did all the hard work. Wasn't me, you know,
- 27:59S10: you just brush it off. But it doesn't have to
- 28:01S10: be like a world championship winning thing. Maybe it is.
- 28:03S10: It could be tiny, but just something that you're proud of.
- 28:05S10: Text it in three, five, two, zero and we will
- 28:08S10: read it out in the wireless to pat you on
- 28:10S10: the back for patting yourself on the back.
- 28:12S5: Give us the intro horns there. Bleeding gums. Westie. I
- 28:26S5: feel like knights on horseback riding into battle. Amazing. Don't
- 28:31S5: want to blow my own trumpet, but just ticked over
- 28:32S5: four years. Clean off the dirty glass Barbie. I'm a
- 28:35S5: much better dad and loving life up the wires.
- 28:37S10: Uh. Don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I
- 28:39S10: just ticked over four years off the dirty glass Barbie.
- 28:42S10: I'm a much better dad. Get on. You up the
- 28:44S10: same one?
- 28:45S12: Yeah. Good.
- 28:46S5: I represented New Zealand in the World martial Arts tournament
- 28:49S5: and got two gold and three silver for us. Nami.
- 28:52S5: Well done. Hayden.
- 28:53S10: Uh, I broke up a fistfight during my science test.
- 28:57S5: Not to blow my own trumpet, but this is exactly
- 28:59S5: what we want you to do. Got the old starlet
- 29:01S5: going and waiting. Some new mods. Cheers. Oh, good on ya.
- 29:04S10: Brock. Don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I
- 29:06S10: am a female and my first year of automotive engineering.
- 29:09S10: Good on you.
- 29:10S5: Um, how's this one here from Joel working on getting
- 29:12S5: cannabis legalized in New Zealand. It's step two with the government.
- 29:15S5: I'm assuming Joel, it's 46 steps, but you're well on
- 29:18S5: the way and we appreciate the effort.
- 29:20S10: Uh. No name. Oh, yeah. Uh, how are boys? Noah
- 29:23S10: here from the mighty Hawke's Bay. I just won the
- 29:25S10: Mohaka rodeo in the open bull ride at 16 against
- 29:30S10: heaps of Bushmen and a bunch of other interesting characters.
- 29:34S5: Well done. Uh, another one here. I'm proud to be
- 29:38S5: heading over to Costa Rica to represent New Zealand in
- 29:41S5: the sport of powerlifting at 19 years old.
- 29:43S12: Wow. Yeah, that is wicked.
- 29:46S10: Uh, don't want to blow my own trumpet, but, um,
- 29:48S10: a week off. Give my government issued Rolex. Okay.
- 29:55S5: Getting off my government.
- 29:57S4: Coming off in a month.
- 29:58S10: Uh, hey, don't want to blow my own trumpet, but
- 30:00S10: I just got into vet school. Good on you, Maya.
- 30:02S5: Uh, this one here from Caden. Got myself into a trade.
- 30:04S5: Just started my apprenticeship in light fabrication chair. Who.
- 30:08S10: Uh, don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I
- 30:10S10: just got senior coach of the year two years in
- 30:12S10: a row at my football club from Brandon, Belgium.
- 30:17S5: Absolutely brilliant stuff.
- 30:19S10: Uh.
- 30:20S5: Oh, this one here just framed a thousand, a thousand frames.
- 30:25S5: Tips frames. Impressive. Well done, George.
- 30:28S10: Well done. Keep them coming through. Three. Five. Two zero.
- 30:30S10: Don't want to blow my trumpet. But I just got
- 30:32S10: myself into a trade. Started my apprenticeship in light fab.
- 30:36S10: Show you beauty.
- 30:38S5: Great stuff. Keep them coming in. We'll get to them.
- 30:40S5: I know we need to finish up. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
- 30:52S10: When you run out of breath.
- 30:53S6: Yeah. The fella Rock drive with Jay and Dunk must watch.
- 31:00S10: So if you are around about our age, if you
- 31:03S10: grew up in the 90s, you'll remember these. So, um,
- 31:06S10: it'll take you straight back to the playground, the oddbods
- 31:09S10: trading cards. These are the ones we used to like.
- 31:12S10: They were like weird, disgusting pictures. You'd stack together to
- 31:15S10: build the bodies with the different heads and different, you know,
- 31:18S10: arms and limbs or limbs. Um, there's a documentary that's
- 31:21S10: been released next year. It's called The Odd Father, which
- 31:23S10: I think is an excellent name for the doco.
- 31:26S14: I know how to make people weird. People aren't people.
- 31:30S10: So there's a bloke out of Australia, Andy Hook, who
- 31:33S10: was the artist behind this massive phenomenon. Um, and despite
- 31:37S10: the popularity of his work, his name wasn't really attached
- 31:40S10: to the artwork. The doco, which looks amazing, is going
- 31:44S10: to be released early next year.
- 31:47S15: I don't remember them until I see it and like,
- 31:48S15: I remember those. It's so iconic. It felt naughty to
- 31:52S15: have Oddbods.
- 31:53S16: Up until then. You never found anything in chip packets.
- 31:59S15: This did look good on the shelf. It did look
- 32:00S15: neat and tidy, but nothing compares to what you get
- 32:03S15: out of an oddbods pack.
- 32:04S17: It was sort of, you know, something a little bit rude,
- 32:07S17: a little bit funny about the cards that made them
- 32:09S17: a little bit more exciting.
- 32:10S15: Bumpy on the sides. You rub them on the front,
- 32:12S15: you put them in the dark. What did I think
- 32:14S15: was funny as a kid? And it's like fart and
- 32:17S15: pissing butts. You've got Bugs Bunny, you know, I've got
- 32:20S15: big butt mama.
- 32:22S18: It makes sense why something like this would be sought
- 32:24S18: after based on that origin story.
- 32:26S16: Tasos became an absolute phenomenon.
- 32:29S19: And you saw that enormous growth and you thought, oh
- 32:31S19: my God, what can we do to counteract that?
- 32:33S16: Smith's snackfood was losing market share because they were in
- 32:37S16: a war canteen schoolyard.
- 32:39S15: That's where they were. They were everywhere.
- 32:40S17: iPods come and like, took over Tasos.
- 32:43S15: It's like I ate a lot of chips. I was
- 32:44S15: a chubby kid. I had a lot of chips, mate.
- 32:47S16: Over 100 million cards circulated within Australia and New Zealand.
- 32:52S15: I don't like being noting myself or promoting myself as
- 32:55S15: just my general tendency.
- 32:57S20: He had trouble calling himself an artist when I was
- 33:00S20: growing up. He wouldn't refer to himself as an artist.
- 33:05S15: And I think it all came down to politics, not
- 33:08S15: wanting the artist to stand out too much ahead of
- 33:12S15: the product. It wasn't my intellectual property, but it was
- 33:15S15: something I'd created. Yeah, I mean, I definitely knew that
- 33:18S15: the artist had changed for sure. Kids can see through
- 33:22S15: fake bullshit. It's not oddbods. Unless. Andy Hawke did it.
- 33:26S15: People were figuring it out years later who actually did
- 33:29S15: the Oddbods because it was just unknown. And it was me.
- 33:36S12: Yeah.
- 33:36S5: So watch WATCH23520. It is a time machine. And if
- 33:41S5: you're younger and you don't remember them, just classic to
- 33:44S5: see what used to get people's wheels spinning back in
- 33:46S5: the day pre. I mean this is not the.
- 33:48S10: Oddbods with a Z by the way.
- 33:50S12: Yeah.
- 33:51S10: Uh how's that? Uh, Ricky says last time I went
- 33:53S10: to bed as a kid, I remember dreaming of the.
- 33:55S10: I wet the bed as a kid. I remember dreaming
- 33:57S10: of the I.P. freely. Astronaut Oddbods.
- 34:00S5: Yeah.
- 34:02S10: I, I actually can't remember any of the other ones,
- 34:04S10: if anybody can remember the names of them. Yeah. Seen
- 34:06S10: him through.
- 34:06S5: Well, this this was basically a derivative off the back
- 34:09S5: of the Garbage Pail Kids as well, which then took
- 34:12S5: the piss out of Cabbage Patch dolls. They were absolutely iconic.
- 34:15S5: And it has all of they've done a Garbage Pail
- 34:19S5: Kids book which shows series one through five. The original
- 34:23S5: ones were pretty bad. Then they got sharper and sharper
- 34:25S5: and sharper.
- 34:26S10: That's cool.
- 34:27S6: Very cool. Oh, all the best bits from the rock
- 34:29S6: drive with Jay and Dunk. You beauty. Listen, live on
- 34:32S6: our app or over 3 to 7 p.m. New Zealand time,
- 34:35S6: Monday to Friday.
- 34:36S12: Oh.
- 34:37S6: Give me the best bits.
- 34:38S10: The new movie that's out from DC as of tomorrow,
- 34:42S10: it's called Clayface. Um, a little bit different from your
- 34:45S10: usual superheroes flick. A full on body horror thriller about
- 34:49S10: a Hollywood actor whose face gets horribly disfigured. He's desperate
- 34:53S10: to get his looks back and just absolutely blows out
- 34:55S10: with some experimental treatment, and then turns him into Batman's, um,
- 35:00S10: one of Batman's one of the most disturbing villains. Um, Westley,
- 35:03S10: you got to catch up with a couple of the actors.
- 35:05S4: Yeah, man, I did. I got to catch up with, uh,
- 35:07S4: Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie, who play Tom Hagen
- 35:11S4: and Caitlin or Caitlin is the doctor that does the
- 35:13S4: experimental treatment, basically, without giving too much away. Origin story
- 35:16S4: of the Batman villain Matt Hagen. Under the new DC
- 35:19S4: universe remodel, the revamped. That's getting done by James Gunn
- 35:22S4: gun and mate. It is. It's mega. So I caught
- 35:25S4: up with the cast and had a quick chat. And
- 35:26S4: here's a bit of my chat with, uh, with Tom.
- 35:29S21: Yes, Lee. How's it going? We needed that for me.
- 35:32S21: We actually really needed that.
- 35:34S4: Tom. Can I just say, mate, it's been an absolute
- 35:36S4: pleasure in the least creepy way. Uh, watching you grow
- 35:39S4: as an actor over the years, bro, I've really enjoyed
- 35:41S4: all the stuff that you've done. I'm a big fan
- 35:43S4: and you have you have a line in the film
- 35:46S4: that drew me in instantly and almost brought me to tears.
- 35:49S4: It's when it's before, you know, your character gets his
- 35:53S4: hands dirty, so to speak. And he says, and I'm
- 35:55S4: paraphrasing here, I need my face. It's all I have.
- 35:59S4: And I think from that moment on, I was on,
- 36:02S4: I was on your side. You know, I, I feel
- 36:05S4: like we've all been there in our life at some point,
- 36:07S4: whether it's your face, your sense of humour, your religion, nationality,
- 36:11S4: your physique, we all have something that we feel defines us.
- 36:13S4: And the thought of losing that is just almost too
- 36:15S4: much to bear. So bringing that experience into Matt Hagan,
- 36:19S4: who undergoes such a horrifically Ruthless, you know, physical transformation.
- 36:24S4: How did you balance the physical and monstrous demands of
- 36:27S4: Clayface alongside the human vulnerability of someone who's losing his identity?
- 36:32S12: Oh.
- 36:33S21: Yeah. Oh. Thanks, Lee. That's so kind of you. I the, um.
- 36:38S21: I think what you see, Matt at rock bottom and
- 36:41S21: at his most vulnerable, where he's clutching for a semblance
- 36:45S21: of control over his life and, you know, finds Caitlin
- 36:51S21: Naomi's character. And he's, he's he's kind of has nothing.
- 36:56S21: He's at rock bottom. He has nothing. He has nothing
- 36:58S21: to offer up. And, um, he's desperate. And then, you know,
- 37:01S21: we do to your point, we, we all find ourselves
- 37:04S21: in situations throughout life where, you know, you are desperate
- 37:08S21: and you haven't got much to offer up. And I
- 37:09S21: think that that felt relatable to me. Whilst you've got,
- 37:14S21: you know, these extraordinary things going on and you've got
- 37:16S21: this bloke who can become a puddle of mud. He's
- 37:19S21: also um, he's, He's also a living, breathing, caring, deeply
- 37:24S21: emotional human being. And I think the thing that I
- 37:27S21: kept going back to with Matt is that despite the
- 37:30S21: fact that he's gaining all these powers and becoming ultimately Clayface,
- 37:33S21: whilst that's happening, he's regressing into a childlike version of
- 37:37S21: himself and childlike tendencies.
- 37:40S4: One final thing. Quick answer from you both. Did anything
- 37:42S4: from set make it home into your living room?
- 37:45S21: Yes.
- 37:45S4: No, not this time. No, no. Okay. I mean, I
- 37:48S4: need a judge. I still, I don't even need all
- 37:51S4: the time.
- 37:51S12: I've got.
- 37:51S21: I've got loads of stuff from. Sir, as we count
- 37:57S21: down to release, I'll do like, like, you know, like
- 37:59S21: 12 days of Christmas where I reveal the things I've
- 38:03S21: stolen from. Yeah.
- 38:04S4: You could give it back to James, the director, as
- 38:06S4: the Clayface and Ben calendar.
- 38:07S21: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Hey.
- 38:09S4: Bless you guys. I will catch you again soon. If
- 38:12S4: you're ever in New Zealand, come and find me. You'll see. Oh,
- 38:15S4: I love that.
- 38:16S21: Well, the only.
- 38:24S22: I want my life back.
- 38:28S23: This procedure is causing troubling physical changes. Are you okay?
- 38:35S23: This is going to be hard for you to believe.
- 38:38S23: Matt Hagen can change his face.
- 38:44S24: Is that so bad?
- 38:46S12: Whoa.
- 38:47S10: What toilet were you in when you recorded that?
- 38:51S5: So it's just using a cup between two pieces. Two
- 38:55S5: cups between a piece of string.
- 38:57S4: Oh, do you know what it was? I did it
- 38:58S4: out of the other studio. I couldn't use the studio.
- 39:00S4: So maybe that other studio sounds fine. Do you know what?
- 39:03S10: Wankers in the afternoon taking it up before their show,
- 39:05S10: were they?
- 39:05S4: If you want to catch the full interview. That doesn't
- 39:08S4: sound like that. It's up on the Rock podcast feed
- 39:09S4: and the movie is out in cinemas now. I thoroughly
- 39:11S4: recommend it. It's a great.
- 39:12S12: Watch.
- 39:12S5: They seem like two super lovely people.
- 39:15S4: And.
- 39:15S5: They obviously took a shine to you just like everybody
- 39:18S5: that you interview.
- 39:19S4: They were fantastic. And Tom Rhys Harries is from Wales.
- 39:22S12: From the valleys.
- 39:23S4: Yeah, yeah, that's what he said to me. Those were
- 39:24S4: the last thing he said was goodbye in Welsh. Yeah.
- 39:27S4: He got called out on it. He was like, what
- 39:28S4: did you say to him? I said goodbye in Welsh.
- 39:30S10: Um, we've got we're a bit after the show tonight,
- 39:33S10: getting on the blower with Matt from Wales, who we
- 39:35S10: sent over to the Bathurst 1000. Oh, nice. Yeah. So
- 39:37S10: looking very much forward to that. Um, yeah. Tom's seen classic.
- 39:40S10: The movie looks amazing. The trailer looks awesome to get
- 39:43S10: amongst that at your local cinema.
- 39:45S2: Rock.
- 39:45S6: Drive with Jay and Dunk.
- 39:47S10: And apparently a new streaming service out now. It feels
- 39:50S10: like there's a new one every week. Benny. Boys all
- 39:52S10: over it. What have you found?
- 39:53S8: Oh, this one's iconic, man. And I think that it's
- 39:55S8: really going to speak to your souls. Gentlemen, it is
- 39:57S8: not exactly what you think. It has been launched by
- 40:00S8: massive global international beer brand Heineken. Mhm. And it's called
- 40:05S8: pub Scription. Now it's a platform that swaps films and
- 40:08S8: TV shows for real life pubs and drinking spots. But
- 40:11S8: it's laid out in a Netflix style way. It's only
- 40:14S8: available in the UK at the moment. But basically, if
- 40:16S8: you're thinking about going out with your mates, you can
- 40:18S8: open it up. It looks like Netflix. It's got different categories.
- 40:21S8: Whether you want an Irish pub, whether you want something
- 40:23S8: to eat, something like that. You can scroll through and
- 40:26S8: it has images and videos and menus and stuff available
- 40:29S8: on your telly, and you can have a look. And
- 40:31S8: if you actually use the app at the moment, like
- 40:33S8: I said, just in the UK to choose one, Heineken
- 40:36S8: shows you your first beer on it as well, so
- 40:38S8: they give you a credit to then go into that bar, which,
- 40:40S8: you know, I worked in Hospo for, you know, 4
- 40:42S8: or 5 years doing events before I came and joined
- 40:44S8: your guys team and pubs are battling worldwide. So anything
- 40:48S8: like this that's actually going to get people off the couch,
- 40:50S8: I'm all for it. I think this is genius.
- 40:52S12: It's brilliant.
- 40:53S10: When's the last time Netflix bought you a beer?
- 40:55S12: Yeah. No, never.
- 40:56S10: You got me a free beer?
- 40:58S5: Yeah, I just, I just somebody broke down. This is
- 41:01S5: a complete aside, but still pub focus. Somebody broke down
- 41:05S5: the fastest way in terms of travelling to go to
- 41:08S5: every single pub in Ireland. And it's like there's like
- 41:13S5: 3500 pubs or something, And it takes you about, I think,
- 41:18S5: about six months if you're going to a different one
- 41:20S5: every day or something. It's great. I mean, it must
- 41:22S5: take you longer than that. It was man just showed
- 41:24S5: you the map as it travels around. Fascinating.
- 41:26S10: How's it been when you're in the UK? There's like
- 41:28S10: eight pubs to every one, like singular gas station.
- 41:33S12: Yeah.
- 41:34S10: Oh. Where's a gas station? Well, if you filled your
- 41:36S10: car up in beer, you'd be able to bloody. You'd
- 41:38S10: be filling up at every bloody, every corner of every street.
- 41:41S5: That's what happens when you've got a successful public transport system.
- 41:44S5: You don't need that many gas stations.
- 41:45S10: Oh, man. As soon as you don't pull on that three.
- 41:47S10: Because as soon as you try to say the public
- 41:49S10: transport was successful.
- 41:50S5: We got hammered for.
- 41:51S10: It. Everyone was like, no, no, it's not by the way,
- 41:54S10: as well. We do have, um, one of the great, um,
- 41:56S10: not for radio listeners of our pod, not for radio
- 41:59S10: podcast and Liam, uh, who's a train driver and showed
- 42:02S10: us the aftermath of smacking six birds in one.
- 42:04S12: Trip.
- 42:05S10: At 250km an hour. It's exactly how you'd think it
- 42:08S10: would look a bloody mess.
- 42:12S5: The vacuum was jammed so far into the headlight.
- 42:16S10: Na and one got jammed into the air horn and
- 42:18S10: he had to blow the horn to get it out.
- 42:20S10: And it's like poof! And then just a big puff
- 42:23S10: of feathers coming out. Uh. Coming up next, I've just
- 42:29S10: got back in the gym after an extended period off
- 42:31S10: like close to eight weeks. And.
- 42:34S5: You know, nobody was nobody could notice. It's amazing. You
- 42:37S5: maintain peak.
- 42:38S10: Oh, let me let me pull on that thread next
- 42:44S10: because yeah, I mean, there's a lot of work to do,
- 42:47S10: but there's also not a lot, a lot, a lot
- 42:49S10: of difference for this guy doing work and no work.
- 42:52S2: The Rock drive podcast.
- 42:54S10: Now, I said to this, I actually haven't talked about
- 42:57S10: this on here, but so I've had two, two months
- 42:59S10: off the gym finally started this year. I was like,
- 43:02S10: finally in capacity after having kids super close together to
- 43:06S10: get back in the gym. I was like, right, let's go.
- 43:08S10: But starting off really easy. Yeah, like it was back
- 43:12S10: in the day. Um, you know, the male young, testosterone
- 43:15S10: fuelled bravado would have, uh, got in the way of
- 43:18S10: lifting super lightweights. But now that I'm older and it
- 43:21S10: just gives zero F's, I did not care. I started
- 43:23S10: super light and just eased my way into it.
- 43:25S5: This is where people in their 80s come up and
- 43:27S5: just go, you finishing the machine? I just need to
- 43:29S5: rack up a few more plates on it.
- 43:30S10: Jeez, I had that actually happened back in the day
- 43:32S10: when I was super fat. And, um, David Tua did the,
- 43:36S10: he was like a machine, um, bicep curl. And I
- 43:40S10: was doing about a third of the stack. David Tua goes,
- 43:42S10: can I have a crack at that? When you're resting,
- 43:44S10: I was like, yeah, all good. And he just did
- 43:45S10: the whole stack and just smashed out like 30 reps.
- 43:48S10: It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. So
- 43:50S10: that wasn't me. No. And I was taking it easy.
- 43:53S10: And then I bloody got some calcium deposits on my, um,
- 43:56S10: tendon in my elbow. And I was like, I'll just
- 43:58S10: reset in eight weeks later, I've decided I'll go back
- 44:02S10: to the gym coincides with a um, trainer, um, who
- 44:06S10: reached out saying, I'll look after you, mate. You can
- 44:08S10: do it all online now. Coached by beige.
- 44:10S5: Yeah. So what is what's his set up that he's
- 44:12S5: running for you because there'll be a lot of people
- 44:13S5: out there saying, I can't really be asked, but I
- 44:15S5: just need a kick in the right direction. And he's
- 44:17S5: a legend.
- 44:18S10: He's using a really amazing app that heaps of trainers use. Um,
- 44:22S10: I think it's actually called, uh, I think it's just
- 44:26S10: called trainer or something.
- 44:27S5: Because I think the thing that you find out most
- 44:29S5: when you're at our age is a, we're probably lifting
- 44:34S5: too heavy and B, we're not eating enough protein for
- 44:37S5: any form of recovery or extra muscle build.
- 44:39S10: Oh, the protein thing, bro. How many grams of protein
- 44:42S10: do you reckon I'm having to smack away at the
- 44:43S10: moment a day.
- 44:45S5: 500g.
- 44:47S10: Not quite. It's 200, which is hard work. Like I'm.
- 44:50S5: Literally. So how much do you have to eat to
- 44:52S5: get that?
- 44:53S10: So.
- 44:54S5: Uh, what does that look like?
- 44:55S10: I'm pretty sure 4 or 5 scoops of protein powder today,
- 44:59S10: and I'm not even anywhere near it. I've had a
- 45:01S10: protein yogurt this afternoon. I've had chicken for lunch. I've
- 45:04S10: had a three egg omelette with egg whites added for breakfast. Like,
- 45:09S10: and I'm, I'm, I've still got about a over a
- 45:12S10: third of it to go today.
- 45:13S5: Yeah, I was looking when I was doing some conversion.
- 45:15S5: I have three tubes of venison mince, and I think
- 45:17S5: I just about just get in on it. It's like
- 45:19S5: one and a half kilos.
- 45:21S10: It's the full Popeye spec like. Yeah. Uh, and you
- 45:25S10: gotta eat like kilos and kilos of spinach to get
- 45:27S10: anywhere close to getting what you need into your body. Um,
- 45:30S10: but it's pretty funny, man. Like as soon as you, um,
- 45:34S10: like button off the alcohol, then the weight just starts
- 45:37S10: dropping off, which I've done, and I'm almost at the
- 45:39S10: lowest I've been after. Only like taking it seriously for
- 45:42S10: like a week.
- 45:43S5: Yeah. One of my mates, um, Asher, who's predominantly been
- 45:46S5: one of the biggest pork chops in our group of
- 45:48S5: mates for the longest time, Fifo just smashes piss and food. Um,
- 45:52S5: he's in Brazil at the moment. Normally in Ghana. FaceTime
- 45:55S5: me the other day, which is a massive no no
- 45:57S5: as a fella. But anyway, he took the thing anyway
- 45:59S5: and he'd just been hopping. He just hopped off the
- 46:01S5: tree and was like, what are you up to? He goes,
- 46:02S5: oh mate, I haven't spoken to him or face to
- 46:04S5: face for a few months. You know, it's like, mate,
- 46:06S5: your face, you're looking really like chiselled and what's going on?
- 46:09S5: He's made a I lost 25 kilos and I was like,
- 46:12S5: piss off! Where did he lose it, mate?
- 46:13S10: 25. I don't want to go to the same place.
- 46:16S10: He lost it.
- 46:16S5: Yes, well he's down, he's down a mine, which is
- 46:18S5: about a million degrees. So he sweats it out. He
- 46:20S5: drinks about five liters of water a day and doesn't
- 46:22S5: have a piss for 12 hours.
- 46:23S10: Whoa.
- 46:24S5: Um, and so he goes, just tidied up the food,
- 46:26S5: laid off the piss, and, um, he's looking slick. I
- 46:29S5: was like.
- 46:30S10: I'm walking.
- 46:30S5: About three hours.
- 46:31S10: A day as.
- 46:31S5: Well. In terms of the, uh, the hit list on
- 46:34S5: our mates, I was just sitting above him as the
- 46:36S5: untidiest rig and now I've been I'm resting on the seabed.
- 46:41S10: Oh, man. Um, so work in progress. I think that's, um,
- 46:45S10: just everyone is always, you know, don't want to clock life.
- 46:49S10: No way. Leave nothing left to do, you know.
- 46:52S6: Oh. Sounds feral, I love it. Rock drive with Jay
- 46:55S6: and dunk.
- 46:56S10: Yeah. So first of all we were chatting about the
- 47:01S10: Oddbods cards. There's a documentary coming out, The Odd Father. Uh,
- 47:06S10: next year, which looks awesome on the artist basically did
- 47:09S10: all the drawings for those cards that you used to get.
- 47:12S10: It's a pack of cards you used to get inside
- 47:13S10: your chip packets. Yeah.
- 47:15S5: Which in itself is just not overly game changing. But
- 47:18S5: at the time it was massive.
- 47:20S10: Oh yeah. That was like, you get multiple cards in
- 47:23S10: the chip packet, like, which was the game changer. Like
- 47:25S10: even Weet-bix are so tight, they only put two in.
- 47:28S5: Mhm.
- 47:29S10: Which always annoys the kids. I've got three kids. It's
- 47:31S10: an argument every time. Now I take them out and
- 47:33S10: put them in the bin. Yeah. Stop the arguments. But
- 47:36S10: these are some of the, um. These are some of
- 47:38S10: the characters that were on the oddbod cards, uh, steering, um,
- 47:42S10: starring steering. Sarah. I don't remember.
- 47:44S5: Steering.
- 47:45S10: Sarah um, mystery kid. Lard. Dracula. Lard. Uh. Napoleon. Bony parts, itchy. Witchy. Turbo. Granny. I.P. freely.
- 47:55S10: And the screechy teacher.
- 47:58S5: Yeah.
- 47:59S10: What ones are those? Do you remember? I remember the
- 48:00S10: Napoleon bony parts.
- 48:01S5: Yeah, I remember, uh, Napoleon bony parts, turbo granny and I.P.
- 48:05S5: freely and nerdy.
- 48:07S10: Neville was another one.
- 48:08S5: Yes, Neville.
- 48:09S10: Geez, that'd be a great base for some merch. At
- 48:12S10: some point.
- 48:12S5: Hey, um, I was also asking, uh, earlier on, is
- 48:17S5: this something that you can't do that you wish you
- 48:19S5: could do as big league? Um, pitch this one up
- 48:22S5: in this one here we're talking about because I said
- 48:24S5: I'd love to be able to sail a sailboat and
- 48:27S5: also be able to whip in a boat real slick
- 48:31S5: up to like, uh, pontoon or jetty. You see, there's the,
- 48:34S5: the gurus do it. It's so impressive in my eyes. Anyway. Um, and,
- 48:38S5: and then dunk said, have you ever parked the Interislander ferry?
- 48:42S5: Crago steps up. Hey boys. Done that. Parked the Interislander.
- 48:45S5: Now I play with bigger toys, 350 meter long container ships,
- 48:49S5: big cruise ships, tankers, etc. got the second best job
- 48:52S5: after you guys, I reckon.
- 48:53S10: Amazing. That's so sick. We're also chatting about blowing your
- 48:57S10: own trumpet, um, patting yourself on the back essentially. Uh,
- 49:00S10: one here I want to mention from Kieran went through
- 49:03S10: a bad patch in life that was almost it stuck
- 49:05S10: it out, got better and now I have a career
- 49:07S10: that I always wanted. After some real bad life and
- 49:10S10: business decisions, I've purchased my own house with my beautiful
- 49:12S10: wife and five kids. Amazing. Congrats, Helen. Three months after
- 49:16S10: smashing her pelvis is walking unassisted. Uh. And then this
- 49:20S10: is just a dirty one, but I'll chuck it at anyway,
- 49:23S10: because there'll be half of the people that are from
- 49:25S10: that area will hate this and half will love it.
- 49:27S10: Don't want to blow my own trumpet, but Central Pirates
- 49:30S10: RFC bit Midlands in the semi-finals. Get that right up here.
- 49:34S5: Um and also with the rerelease of Footrot Flats, the
- 49:36S5: dog's Tail coming out in January, 200 um artists worked
- 49:40S5: on that for 15 months, knocking out over 100,000 um frames, uh, dairy.
- 49:46S5: My papa was the lawyer for the creator of flats when, uh,
- 49:49S5: in Gisborne. He's got some pretty cool stuff from the film.
- 49:51S10: Yeah.
- 49:52S6: Go. Well, go long, go deep rock drive.
- 49:56S10: I can confirm I've struck up a deal for the
- 49:58S10: personalised number plate that is Duncan that someone's granddad owns.
- 50:01S10: And I even had. I'd love to have a beer with.
- 50:05S10: And then Duncan written there.
- 50:06S5: That's so cool.
- 50:07S10: So next week, at some stage, the grandson's going to
- 50:10S10: be coming in. I'll hand over the cash monies and
- 50:13S10: be the proud owner of that one.
- 50:15S5: It's quite a cool one. It's a one lifetime opportunity
- 50:18S5: on that. Yes.
- 50:20S10: How do you know you actually own it?
- 50:23S5: We have a change of ownership on the plate. Do you? Yeah.
- 50:25S10: But how do I know that they own it?
- 50:30S5: Are you assuming that they've just been doing servo drive
- 50:32S5: offs with it?
- 50:34S10: I don't know. Well, you know, people that did that
- 50:36S10: to make their pizza delivery job more profitable.
- 50:40S5: And then eventually you get a job in radio and
- 50:42S5: here you are. Yeah.
- 50:44S4: Well, you know.
- 50:45S10: Sometimes it takes a while, but eventually you'll hit the
- 50:49S10: bottom when you're digging.
- 50:50S5: Yeah, yeah. Keep on digging, Tink.
- 50:51S10: Tink, Tink. And then sometimes you open up that treasure
- 50:54S10: chest and it gets better.
- 50:55S5: Yeah. Yeah. Um, if anybody does know the legitimate answer
- 50:58S5: to that question, then by all means text it into three, five, two, zero.
- 51:01S10: Uh, but looking forward to it. It's going to be awesome. Um,
- 51:03S10: special mention as well to Frank, who texted in earlier
- 51:06S10: in the show. How are fellows Frank here? Not to
- 51:09S10: toot my own trumpet, but this last month I managed
- 51:11S10: to crack seven 100 and 80s on the old dart board.
- 51:15S10: Get in there, son.
- 51:17S5: That is impressive.
- 51:18S10: Thousand out of ten. Impressive. Have a great night in
- 51:21S10: New Zealand. We'll be back in tomorrow afternoon from three. Um.
- 51:24S10: Got some. We've got a bloke actually that's, um, currently
- 51:28S10: in the midst of breaking a world record for the
- 51:30S10: longest trip on a scooter on the podcast tomorrow, which
- 51:34S10: I'm looking forward to.
- 51:35S5: I also missed this one as well. Not to toot
- 51:36S5: my own trumpet, but I just won a second award
- 51:39S5: for this year. Um, this time a silver medal in
- 51:41S5: the New Zealand Artisan Awards for my punch chilli crisp oil. Um,
- 51:46S5: get punch.co.nz. If you like your things a little spicy.
- 51:50S10: I love chilli oil eh? Yeah, that makes the old breakfast,
- 51:53S10: said Sing Benny Boy joins me on the night show tonight. Uh,
- 51:57S10: and we will be back in tomorrow afternoon from three.
- 51:59S10: Paul Murray who?
