- Thanks for tuning into the Heavy podcast today. You've got Rashid and I'm here chatting with the crew from Bank's Arcade. We've got Parlor, We've got Binnie, and we've got Jim aka James. Now we're hanging out at the Zoo this afternoon, just in preparation of tonight's show, which will be the last show of their Death to Slash Slash a news tour. Hey you and gentlemen, how's being good? Good? Good? Tired? Yeah, as you should be. Yeah, big noight last night to do the after party at Crowba So all right, so not only a show but rocking rock in the after yeah, yeah, being a bloody d J. It's good though. Three ish andust playing it SIXI ish so yeah right yeah, real rockstar ship. Someone got stabbed at the hotel last night, all right, one real rock star. Never do it that way. I had to catch the j is ishaing. You know, doing that is pretty rough. Now, not only is it the final day for your tour, but are you gentlemen, aware that it is also final days for the venue that you're playing in tonight, the Zoo. Yeah it sucks there, sucks to here very much. It's definitely a massive blow to our local community. This is a venue that cater stop all artists from their first gig to their millionth if you will, their final shows, if not just the final show of their tour. Yeah, we we chose the Zoo for a reason, like we've played here before on a run and where you fell in love the venue. You know, like no shade to other venues in Brisbane. We just think like as a whole, it's just a great space. It's big, Monkey's on the wall all you need. You don't get that out everybody. Pelican Mayor's still the draft, the draft still merge for us tonight. Yeah, he's got a job. Yeah, it's been his favorite animals, the drafts and that's all your donkeys. That is what he is. Yeah, maybe that's a question I should have had forever, but I'm glad you kind of all brought it all up. The deep dish on what your favorite animals? Animals? Actually a tiger now he changes the yeah, exactly favorite animal gym Oh, I'm gonna go probably a rhino. Oh no, no, no, blue whale, blue whale, the biggest animal. Yeah. And then there's they've got the sonar. They can see it over like hundreds of kilometers and they're just big fucking things. Yeah, I hate to be a blue whale with extrasensory issues. Yeah exactly did they write a song about that? One? Was? Yeah good yar definitely did, But it doesn't mean you can't do it. One of them even better whale tribute stick when when they hear that one. So, yeah, you mentioned you've already played here at the zoob before the last time I caught you guys though, I was playing at the Fortitude Valley Music Hall where you were out supporting north Lane, and that that was a fucking show to be a part on. How did how did those run of shows feel for you guys? That was sir? I mean especially I mean yeah, all of us grew up listening to him, so like playing with him was definitely a bucket list item to tick off and being able to hang with him was very inspiring seeing their live shows. So and yeah, there were bigger shows and Brizzy, not even us looking Brizzy was the big showed the tour. It's usually kind of like goes in horseshoes, but flicking you say us kiss, I say you said you don't say us lick slightly. I think that's for a different stream platform. What's this going on? Wherever? Heavy comply? So we'll get you, We'll get you out there, Will I swear that? Yeah? Sure? Yeah? Nice? I try not to beauty. Yeah, free kid, let's let's crape and go. Can't keep this heavy metal ship PG please? Absolutely it? So yeah, it's the death to Slash slash Amuse Tour. So the slashes are actually just like typography based like aesthetic things. Well yeah, but not the way I say it, so just death to amuse. That wordplay. Well that's why I'm now bringing it back to this as well. Yeah, how what's the cadence that you guys are saying to its death to amuse, death to amuse or as you know my preferences, death to slash slash there a little backward slash should I need to look at your poster right again? Dispass? But do you know I go aware of the direction the art? Well I did know that. I don't know. But to answer your question is there is no answer to that question. Mate's going to classic keep it ambiguous. It'll all the answers we to reveal itself. I'm sure at some point when Josh is here for an interview, he reveal he'll reveal it. Yeah, yeah, he's got the inner workings. Yeah, we're just like pine everything off. Yeah. Something I think about that guy's brain and just it concerns me. The monkeys, Yeah yeah, climbing away. Yeah, some monkey's happy man. He was in the more Want music video for a reason. Yeah. Yeah, because he's a bit of like an insane freaky guy. But he's got a lot of emotions as well. Is that why you decided to get him to go run errand so he went? See him running errands, bro, He is wearing a little cat, his little candle, napping to be right now, sleepy and some means I feel like he's been getting the most sleep on tour as well. Yeah you know that's strategically give him the naps, bro. Yeah, asks to me like he's laying lowd Did you dust him for fingerprints? Oh yeah for the Oh that's a good boy. Now you say that he did come home and say, God, I just stabbed someone with the I didn't even think of it. That that's so weird. Yeah, that checks out. He's freaky. Yeah, he's just freaky free. Well, steering away from incriminating conversations. Again, we are at the tail end of the tour. I believe this tour actually began somewhere else. A little bit of international fun for you guys. Yeah, I mean technically like not international, because we started in our homeland of alt New Zealand, Auckland and Wellington and to sold out nights in christ Okay, so New Zealand's home for you. Yeah, where we man, it's not Australian man. I was going to say a contract unless Triple J wants us on some local stuff then where we are from Melbourne. But dual citizenship yeah, literally, you know that's the beauty of it all the ans X. But yeah, we started off in New Zealand and the shows went the biggest headline as we've done there before. And yeah, it's just I noticed what your third day we had to put on a second show. Yeah, yeah, tiny room discounting the trailer that but now it's one of those like super sick like felt like a show from back in the old days, you know, the high school days. It's just a small room, a bunch of counties sold out two nuts in our own tiny house stage that you can put on. Well, that's the funnest sight. I mean, I haven't played too many large stages too much to go again. But for me personally, yeah, there's medium but small venues. It's yeah, anything that's special that I think there will always be special. Bedroom of the Licorne. I let the phone play out because otherwise, Yeah, I was like, Wow, New Zealand really loves these guys. Yeah that's why. And you know what we love musically, We love New Zealand except for the price of cheese. Yeah that's a cold washing and someone needs to do something of the politicians and you know, let's get all right, let's get politically. Yeah, yeah, we need a cheese crazy. Yeah, it takes me maybe be a good time to invest. That's the way he's cheese. I work for a big cheese. Now that's the real value. And did you say, Kevin Bird, Yeah, it's the real with without a bite out of it from one of the members of banks, I think we could float that, you know, raise its value. I think, yeah, we were really it would be quite good at identifying value from cheesemas if I think a buy my girlfriend used to be a cheesemaker, Sure she did. She did deep in the industry. Do you know the cheese law? The cheese law like the background that shall not fucking beat the cheese, smell the cheese? I beat you smell the cheese in school, cutting up the one you need to avoid before for they all smell the cheese trick. Oh I don't think I've ever stumbled into that one, but you know they'll smell the cheese trick. Smell the cheese. No way if you don't know smell the cheese. This is ship they did in school. Do you go to someone? Did I go to spells like twenty years ago? Right? You got there's a primary school. Shit, you got to someone and smell the cheese. And if some fucking stupid can't smell the cheese, see how this is? Oh yeah, lining up, But I never made anyone smell the cheese personally. I might have sniffed a few. Then how do you smell the cheese over fourteen times? Covered the blood? Maybe this time sentraal cheese turned out the cheese smells like iron. Yeah, yeah, you're Nichols. Okay, So with your shows over in New Zealand, he you up supporting you over the shout out to from the local market from that you had written by Wolves were main support, uh, and then Varna is it a handle, I don't always at the full thing. And then we had locals in each spot, we claimers in Wellington, Corridian Auckland and then thank god, I was like who I forgotten? Yeah, it was all a full local lineup like Wolves giant band like from New Zealand, but like I know, they have like a giant European fanil it's really strange, but they've been o good friends for a while. And then Vanna is she's just like crazy, She's just like Redhead Queen who's like just kills it on Tichtop and Ship and she just transitions into the metal world and it's on these fucking mental shows. So these followers. Yeah, it was good to like have her on it, like to see I don't know what the kids are doing, you know, and it was cool and imagine it would have gone quite well with your sound because you're not so straight metal, like I noticed a lot of like sort of more dancy elements, like music for metal is very danceable. And even when I caught you live at that show supporting north Lane, like I got some sort of like modern hit hip hop. Yeah, kind of vibes flowing flowing through it as well. Yeah that's right on the nose really Yeah, having act like that, but I'm there leaning more towards those leanings. Yeah, make the more the nuanced around. Yeah, let's call it action music, patch of music. Yeah. Ye, that's soundtrack the ship. Yeah, it's just like, yeah, it's physical and it's yeah intrigue. Yeah, you had a good idea for the genre. What what was the kind of remember kind of remember for longer than four minutes at times? Oh? Yeah, you got diagnosed with goldfish bread. Yeah. Yeah, you know you're you're lucky. You're such a qutti. Yeah, and being lost surviving SIDS is impressive in the first place. Yeah. Now, but what was that genre that you came up with us? I actually have no idea. Goldfish medal, I guess yeah, probably, of course, that's one thing that he's always on about goldfish. So every like probably like ten times a day with gold every five seconds? Sure work. Have you got your phone on your gym? Yeah? Can you just quickly google in our ol? I just need to see a score. Pulling them away from the game apologies. It sounds like they wanting to kick on with the sound checks, so we better kick things on here a bit more as well. Then, So, yeah, who are you playing show? Yeah it's good, it's not good, but it's not bad. Cool, let's hope. So yeah, who are you been playing these shows? With? Earth Caller? Mm hmm, Closure, Sydney and Heartline, three fucking ripper bands. I think the bill was perfect as far as like a diverse array of different music goes. But then you know, similar in its own ways. Partline are crazy tight as fuck. I like watching bands play like super tight No and I can't do that. And then Closure very old friends, bells Now and we'll go way back to our first Australian to all of them, and then yeah, and then the Earthwalker motherfuckers are just you know, balls to the wall, bag off earth Ship in the pocket. This is a meme that got taken too far and it's done a full circle. That's I'll over dubbed that one for well. I always say to them, I go earth Caller, you guys and Hard to Wake tribute band or something, and then I started calling them Earthwalker and then I un ironically just do it now on accident. Yeah, and it's such a dead calling the Xbox like the game box and ship Hello hungry. As the years passed by, I'd be calling switches, PSPs all kinds of ship. That's the way you roll. You're so young and just. But yeah, I called earth Caller. Yeah. Some times the vocalist also named Josh. Do you know me Josh? I believe the drummer is also Josh. And how many joy three Joshes? We got one Josh another Josh? Yeah, so it should so it should be the death to slash slash jous slash slash too many Joshes. Yeah, absolutely, you know, curb that ship next time you have it in your contract and Josh yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. I get a little on the Josh. When I'm on the Josh, I'm pretty stoked, sick so much Joshua. Take check as many Josh's as you can get. My middle name is Josh as well, all right, well honorary Josh. Yeah, as a Josh, not a Joshua. Josh. Yeah. I'm couln't afford the other three leaders gave me the Josh. You know how much I should cost to engrave a couple of let it not worth I just doxed myself. He wouldn't be fucking telling consent. I can edit that out as well. My little name is Steve, all right. So yea touring the two EPs together. That two came out last year February. But oh, you had some releases out that things the act. So you've released two two we bes in twenty twenty four. Obviously there are reasons that you didn't want to combine it together as a single album, and I'd assume because you wanted to possibly stand there's two separate bodies of work. Jimmy, Yeah, yeah, I mean stylistically, they're both quite distinct. And yeah, I think that's a big part of our sound, is having a diverse array of like influences and sounds and stuff. So I think in the past it's been all kind of like jumbled up on each project, and so we're just kind of experimenting with the idea of separating the sounds a little bit more distinctly. And yeah, that's really all it's about. And yeah, we tried to you know, kind of nail down the vibes with the aesthetics and stuff like that, which Charlon's been doing all that stuff, all our visual stuff, so trying to really title together as distinct projects with distinct vibes. Yeah, awesome. Yeah, And does that reflect in your set lists for the night? Do you kind of ship from one end to the other or do you yeah, plund them together and forming line We pretty much well, we just play all of Death Too pretty much straight off the bat? What song don't we play straight off the bat? From Death Too? Roulet and change? But yeah, we just bang it out and then throw a couple of the new ones then released and there no way everything's released, and then a couple of classes in between. Cool. Yeah, it's definitely mainly Death Too focused for the tour and just trowing a little bit of amusing that, you know, while we can. But yeah, I like to expand on Jimmy like it's in the names, and like Death to explores the black and white, fucking bleakness of existence, at least from my like aesthetical purpose lat aesthetics estheticals that we're probably not isn't it more perfect? Fucking? And then Amuse like covers much more of the not so much positive parts of of things, but as its own sort of gloomy manner, you know, like overly saturated, like sticking vibes. It's so it's hard to explain. Yeah, yeah, very very ill and uneasy, orange and green, like you're in a fucking giant trip. That's that's the vibes. Well, I hope the vibes tonight are absolutely amazing for you guys to cap off this awesome tour that you've been on. I'm sure the audience is going to love it. I hope you really enjoy yourselves as well and get to really soak in what you've accomplished with these tours and the release of these EPs, and really looking forward to see where you guys are going in the future. Hopefully we can catch up further down the track, check in, see what's up, have another fun chat, absolutely have some cheese with spelling the cheese. They sticking around for the show to not unfortunately school night. Yeah before we already had plans lined up before I got booked for this interview. But as always, like I feel like I'm fucking missing out anyway, because yeah, watching you guys the first time another show, Yeah, you're sick. I know you've got the goods. You've got the good good So not this time, but yeah, next time we've got a locked in early absolutely awesome again, guys, have a great one. Thanks out the Liz
