- 0:00Does evil truly exist. And if it did, if it looked you
- 0:05in the eyes, would you see an old monstrosity staring back at
- 0:09you? Or would it be the face of your
- 0:12smiling neighbor? Perhaps evil exists within many
- 0:16layers, layers, that can, and can't be seen this story,
- 0:22intertwines. Truly evil Deeds with demonic
- 0:25spectres, a blend of True Crime and the Normal.
- 0:31This is the untold story of Fox Hollow Farm and the disturbing
- 0:36events of its past and the Paranormal Encounters of the
- 0:41present Westfield Indiana, a conservative town in America's
- 0:48Bible Belt known for small town. Hospitality strong families, and
- 0:54sports would soon begin to experience something very
- 0:58different. So different that it would stun
- 1:02the community's grip on Norma see soon the Wayward sons of
- 1:07Westfield began to go missing Each time the situation seemed
- 1:13to mirror one another with the name seemingly being the only
- 1:17details to change what started out as one person suddenly
- 1:22disappearing, began to multiply each time.
- 1:26Each victim only crafting a local article or to each person
- 1:32who went missing was gay or suspected of being gay.
- 1:36So as one can imagine and the small and conservative town
- 1:41Authorities, often believed that these people skip town as they
- 1:45often did or moved on to larger and more glamorous cities,
- 1:50perhaps ones that could cater better to their lifestyle
- 1:53choices. Instead of viewing these young
- 1:56men as victims, they often only view their families as the true
- 2:01victims since they were, never informed, as to why the men left
- 2:06and wouldn't receive as much as he could buy.
- 2:09But his time would tell, Those Wayward Sons, never truly left
- 2:14Westfield with each disappearance being almost a
- 2:18carbon copy of the previous several members of the
- 2:22community, including some of the men's families, grew
- 2:25increasingly alert and anxious. That something was terribly
- 2:29wrong with little to no help from law enforcement.
- 2:32At the time, several families hired private investigators to
- 2:37further. Try and figure out just what had
- 2:39happened to their sons. The first to suspect something.
- 2:43Malicious was a pi by the name of Virgil vandagriff with close
- 2:49ties to multiple law enforcement agencies.
- 2:52He soon would make waves with what he believed to be taking
- 2:55place that these young men did not simply skip town, but we're
- 3:01possibly the victims of Foul Play after months of convincing
- 3:06and strong efforts by vandagriff himself along with others
- 3:10actually. Ali in law enforcement began to
- 3:13search leaving no stone unturned.
- 3:17Their Trail would end in the backyard of a massive private
- 3:21estate but for all their efforts and years of experience, nothing
- 3:27would prepare them for the monsters crimes that they would
- 3:30have covered with in that backyard was a true field of
- 3:35Horrors buried, both deep and shallow some not at all.
- 3:40Were the remains of a suspected 25 victims, their bones
- 3:46scattered throughout the land as if they weren't even human at
- 3:50all. Shocked, and appalled, by the
- 3:52discovery, the media was soon contacted and efforts were made
- 3:57to find the man suspected of these atrocities.
- 4:01A man that no one suspected a local businessman by the name of
- 4:07Herbert Baumeister. With each shovel full of Earth.
- 4:12More bone fragments would be discovered and the Mystery
- 4:16continue to deepen. The suspect was nowhere to be
- 4:20found behind the eyes of this smiling.
- 4:24Neighbor was a darkness and abyss of deception and evil that
- 4:30we are still trying to come to grips with today.
- 4:33But to understand the monster of a man, we must first understand,
- 4:38his story starting from the beginning.
- 4:42Born April, 7th, 1947, and Indianapolis Indiana.
- 4:47He was the first of four children to be born to dr.
- 4:51Herbert Baumeister senior, and his wife Elizabeth As dr.
- 4:56Baumeister's practice grew. So did the family's wealth?
- 5:01They would eventually move from a modest middle-class
- 5:04neighborhood to the upper echelons of the suburbs and
- 5:08Indianapolis. All seemed normal for the young
- 5:11boy at first playing with other neighborhood kids toys.
- 5:17And his siblings. Nothing seemed out of the
- 5:20ordinary But as he began to age into adolescence, he began to
- 5:25exhibit strange and often antisocial Behavior.
- 5:30Some of his actions would include urinating on his
- 5:32teacher's desk and playing with dead animals.
- 5:37One of his only friends during this time, was a person named
- 5:40Donovan. Who would later explain that
- 5:43Herber would dive into repulsive revelries, expressing to him,
- 5:47the desire to taste human urine and other strange and often
- 5:53sexually deviant fantasies will caught the attention of the
- 5:57staff at his school. Was that one?
- 6:00He went walking to school Herbert will come across a dead
- 6:03crow that have been hit by a car.
- 6:06He picked up the poor creature and proceeded to stuff.
- 6:09Its body into his pocket and went to class like normal later
- 6:14in the day, when the teacher wasn't paying attention, he took
- 6:17the dead bird out and placed it on her desk.
- 6:21It's gnarled and twisted, body on full display to his peers and
- 6:26his teacher, this incident made his parents away.
- 6:29Where that Herbert wasn't just an oddball her going through
- 6:33changes but something is deeply wrong with his psyche.
- 6:39His father a licensed doctor. Quickly sent the boy away from
- 6:44mental evaluation after a lengthy series of tests.
- 6:48That would be determined that the young man suffered from
- 6:50schizophrenia being determined to have a split personality as
- 6:55well. Although his diagnosis is a
- 6:58matter of public record, no further treatment for him, can
- 7:02be determined. Although we can assume at least
- 7:05for a time. He received medication for the
- 7:08disease, as he progressed into High School, the small and
- 7:12socially odd Herbert didn't fit in with his sports playing
- 7:16peers. This led to a deep withdrawal
- 7:19into himself and into isolation. He seemed to have no interest in
- 7:24school or girls or any of the typical things.
- 7:28A boy, his age would be into, he was just Direction.
- 7:33Has this direction was state would persist into his college
- 7:37Years, where he would drop out multiple times over the course
- 7:41of his time there. Never finishing or graduating
- 7:46worried about his son The Aging. Dr. Baumeister pulled some
- 7:50strings, with a friend of his in the community and got her hired
- 7:54on as a copy boy, with the famous paper, the Indianapolis
- 7:58Star. He was eager and well dressed.
- 8:02But again, couldn't seem to quite fit in attempting to
- 8:06become one of the crew with his fellow staff members.
- 8:09He offered to drive them to a University of Indianapolis
- 8:13football game to, which they all agreed.
- 8:16As they waited outside of the office with their dates and tow,
- 8:20the crew was shocked when Herbert arrived in a hearse
- 8:24wearing a full chauffeurs outfit.
- 8:26It's speculated that he acquired the hearse through one of his
- 8:29father's friends within the medical industry weirded out.
- 8:34But not having another way to the game at the time, the men,
- 8:37and their dates reluctantly got into their hers with Herbert and
- 8:41proceeded to drive to the game. But with lights flashing as if
- 8:45in a funeral procession many cars were moving or pulling over
- 8:50to allow them to pass. This made the people riding in
- 8:54the Hearst Wonder just what kind of an oddball was working with
- 8:58them and now steering the wheel. The incident to say, the least,
- 9:03did not make him one of the group and he would soon end up
- 9:07leaving this job, despite never having much luck with women to,
- 9:12everyone's surprise Herbert. Married a woman named Julie
- 9:16Seder in 1971. Having been introduced by a
- 9:21mutual friend, she seems smitten with the young faced Baumeister
- 9:26the to initially, hit it off. When they discovered, they had
- 9:29mutual things in common Both wanting to own their own
- 9:32businesses, someday, among other normal things in the mid-1970s
- 9:39Julie would give up her job as a high school journalism teacher
- 9:42to focus on her and Herb having a family.
- 9:47And the years to come three children would follow fearing
- 9:51for his son's. Future Doctor Baumeister yet
- 9:54again, pulled some strings to help him and secured a job for
- 9:57his son. At the local DMV to allow him to
- 10:01support his new and growing family.
- 10:04A modest job for seemingly odd, but modest man, but it wasn't
- 10:09long before Herbert made it apparent that he wasn't going to
- 10:12fit in here, either. He began to lash out.
- 10:16Out and fellow employees for seemingly, no reason these
- 10:20episodes cause several disruptions that would be
- 10:23noticed by the public and management of the facility
- 10:26alike. But despite this Behavior, they
- 10:29also noticed that he had an eagerness to achieve.
- 10:33And this eagerness was mixed with the high degree of
- 10:35intelligence. So he was allowed to keep his
- 10:38job, but these outbursts would be far from the end of his
- 10:42Antics while working here. He was described as having a
- 10:46bizarre sense of humor having sent out photos of him.
- 10:49And another man and drag one Christmas to the office, and
- 10:54another incident where he urinated on his boss's desk,
- 10:58perhaps, because of his father's connections or leniency, on the
- 11:02behalf of management, he somehow was able to keep his job after
- 11:07these events as well. The final straw, however, would
- 11:11come when Herbert decided to urinate on a letter.
- 11:14That was going to be sent to the governor of Indiana for this
- 11:18bizarre incident. He was finally let go the
- 11:22ever-faithful and supporting Julie returned to teaching to
- 11:26supplement the family's income after the incident.
- 11:29Meanwhile Herber would once again be institutionalized for
- 11:33short while after being discharged Herbert through a
- 11:37series of odd jobs, what eventually landed a local thrift
- 11:41store. And although he felt remedial at
- 11:44first First, he soon realized the potential and owning a
- 11:47business like that and would proceed to gain experience in
- 11:51the day-to-day operations. While working there for the next
- 11:54three years during this time, his father who seem to always
- 11:59try to guide him in a positive direction and provide a good
- 12:03example for him would pass away after discussing the opportunity
- 12:08with his wife. And after a small loan of four
- 12:11thousand dollars from his now widowed mother Herbert, Open his
- 12:15first, Save A Lot thrift store in Westfield in 1988, its
- 12:20success. Would allow the family to open
- 12:22another store and move from their modest.
- 12:25Middle-class neighborhood to purchasing a sprawling estate.
- 12:29That would become known as Fox Hollow Farm complete with four
- 12:33bedrooms elegant Woodwork and an indoor swimming pool, as well as
- 12:38a riding stable. This beautiful home sat on 18
- 12:42and a half acres which provided Did the Tranquil Rural Life that
- 12:46Julie had always wanted for her family?
- 12:49The couple was living, the American dream on the surface.
- 12:54It would later be revealed that her was very manipulative, would
- 12:57always controlled. Usually, whenever a decision had
- 13:00to be made, he would take control whether For Better or
- 13:05For Worse. These episodes would lead to the
- 13:08couple splitting up multiple times, albeit for short periods
- 13:12of time and would turn their Are American Dream into an American
- 13:17Nightmare, one filled with anger and tension, anger and tension
- 13:22that seem to be adopted into the walls of Fox.
- 13:25Hollow Farm Julie would often take the children to visit
- 13:29herbes mother for weeks at a time leaving him to his own
- 13:33devices, citing business pressures as the reason that he
- 13:37would never join them. Although, in reality, their
- 13:41marriage was teetering, she would later reveal that besides
- 13:46these episodes of manipulation. Her and Herb only had sex a
- 13:50total of six times throughout their entire 25-year marriage
- 13:54despite their problems. However, she always tried to
- 13:58reconcile their differences that is perhaps why she believed her,
- 14:03and his ridiculous Alibis, one in particular that shocking was
- 14:08at a 94 on the Family Estate. Their son was playing in their
- 14:13heavily. Wooded backyard.
- 14:15When he found a fully intact human skull and a half buried
- 14:19human skeleton. Absolutely shocked at what the
- 14:23boy had found, Julie anxiously waited for her.
- 14:26Husband to arrive back from work that day to tell him what had
- 14:30happened upon his arrival. She showed him the Oddity, and
- 14:35he explained to her that it was one of his late father's,
- 14:37dissecting skeletons. And that he had been storing it
- 14:41in the garage, but decided to bury it after rearranging, and
- 14:45cleaning out the garage earlier that year Case Closed with her
- 14:51mind, put it, he's Julie and the rest of the family continued on
- 14:54their normal day-to-day routines, including their ever
- 14:58frequent visits to herbs, mother's estate.
- 15:02However, her had a dark secret. Each time his family would leave
- 15:09sometimes for weeks at a time, leaving him to do, whatever he
- 15:12wanted. He soon became a regular at
- 15:16various gay bars and clubs and the Indianapolis area meeting
- 15:21men under the Alias of Brian nice, he developed a routine of
- 15:25his own, he would often meet these men at clubs and bars and
- 15:30convince them to go home with him.
- 15:32Typically telling them that the home, he was taking them to was
- 15:36His own, but rather he was the caretaker or maintenance person
- 15:41of it upon arriving. He would convince them to make
- 15:45their way with him to the wet bar and Pool located within the
- 15:49basement where after several more drinks and sometimes
- 15:53cocaine he would make his move often under the guise of wanting
- 15:58to have sex. He will convince them to
- 16:01strangle him during their escapades to further enhance the
- 16:05pleasure. When they would then want the
- 16:07same done to them. Brian would then strangle them
- 16:11to death. This was often done in the nude
- 16:14and either near or in the pool itself.
- 16:18Once deceased he would dispose of the body and the Woodland
- 16:21area of his massive estate and although it's not 100%
- 16:26confirmed, it is believed that up to 25.
- 16:29Men were disposed this way on the property.
- 16:33How her was able to keep up his guise of Preity is anyone's
- 16:37guess, taking one, human life, let alone possibly 25.
- 16:43And being able to live with oneself, let alone function and
- 16:47any capacity is in and of itself indicative of mental illness.
- 16:52In my opinion. However, soon this erotic and
- 16:56murderous fever dream would come to a fiery and unforeseen
- 17:01ending. The friend of another man who
- 17:04had gone missing named Tony Harris noticed, herb, or Brian
- 17:09Smart staring at a missing-persons poster of his
- 17:13friend, Roger goodly, One Night in a gay bar or club known as
- 17:17the 501 Club. He noticed the way he stared at
- 17:20the poster, not only for an unusual amount of time, but
- 17:24something in his gut, told him that this man had to know
- 17:27something about his missing friend after several drinks in
- 17:31casual. Station Brian asked the man to
- 17:34come home with him. His usual routine upon arriving.
- 17:39He was told that Brian was the caretaker of the property and
- 17:43that the new family who had just bought the house had moved in
- 17:46yet. He was then Hurley led to the
- 17:48pool room in the basement. The pool room itself was
- 17:52disheveled and dirty and filled with mannequins like those you
- 17:56find a department stores creepy but not absolutely insane.
- 18:02Tony decided to carry on with the engagement the to drink
- 18:06several more strong drinks and after a skinny dipping session,
- 18:11Brian suddenly expressed his desire for Tony to try and
- 18:15asphyxiate him while he pleasured himself this sudden
- 18:19and strange emission had Tony even more convinced.
- 18:22This man had to know or was responsible to what happened to
- 18:26his friend, not wanting to ruin his chances of figuring out if
- 18:30Brian Smart was the culprit. Did as he was asked slipping a
- 18:34water hose around. Brian snack.
- 18:36As he proceeded after this first go-around shockingly, Tony
- 18:42allowed himself to be strangled by Brian as well as he feigned
- 18:46Consciousness. He saw Brian looking over his
- 18:49shoulder with a bizarre and drunken grin.
- 18:53He however, thankfully felt Brian, he's up.
- 18:57And after a slight pause, he whispered his name in his ear
- 19:01and began to shake. Him as he came to Brian.
- 19:04Expressed that he had scared him.
- 19:06He let him know that people had died to this and that he had had
- 19:11accidents with this. Tony decided to be frank and say
- 19:16what happened to Roger? Goodell was he one of your
- 19:19accidents and have there been others.
- 19:22Hoping to raise a confession, he was quickly disappointed.
- 19:27Brian quickly. Dismissed the idea and acted
- 19:29like the entire thing was some sort of weird.
- 19:33He then quickly made himself, another strong drink and drink.
- 19:37It almost immediately as he ported after this Brian speech
- 19:41began to slur and he dozed off on the couch near the wet bar.
- 19:46This gave Tony a chance to try and figure some things out
- 19:49making his way quietly but quickly upstairs, he began to
- 19:53rummage through the house noticing that there were
- 19:56children's toys and women's clothing in almost every room,
- 20:00making it apparent to him that someone had been Been living
- 20:03there for quite some time, seeking Brian smarts, real name,
- 20:07assuming now that he was a liar. He sought his wallet for his
- 20:11i.d. He found his pants tossed to the
- 20:14side near the couch, where he was sleeping and began to
- 20:17rummage through them. He felt a wallet.
- 20:20But as he began to pull it out, Brian began to wake up, causing
- 20:25him to drop them after. He came to, it took some
- 20:28convincing but Brian, finally, agreed to drive, Tony back.
- 20:32A town telling him that he had been a good sport, really knew
- 20:36how to play the to then promised to meet again at the 501 Club
- 20:40that following Wednesday, Tony immediately took this
- 20:44information to vandagriff who was the pi on his friends case
- 20:49and as Wednesday arrived Vandergriff and his team posted
- 20:52up all around the club. To observe just who this Bryon
- 20:55smart was however, as ours passed that appeared that Tony
- 21:00had been stood up. Realizing that this had to be
- 21:03the missing piece to the puzzle Vandergriff, contacted the
- 21:07Indianapolis Police Department and spoke with the one person
- 21:10who believed his story, a no-nonsense detective, by the
- 21:14name of Mary Wilson, good work. To other cases with him
- 21:18realizing that this to had to be the missing link Mary made
- 21:22arrangements to look into the details further and to try and
- 21:25acquire a license plate number. Meanwhile, her Baumeister
- 21:30continue to live in his fever tree.
- 21:32Of an existence his marriage to Julie continued.
- 21:37But the cracks that were once hidden became visible the
- 21:41strains of a sexless and Loveless marriage, only
- 21:44escalated their fighting, which was now making its way into
- 21:47their day-to-day, professional lives and began to affect the
- 21:51business by the end of 1994. There are two locations had
- 21:56taken a plunge numbers have declined and bills began to
- 22:01soar. Julie, who had always been
- 22:03unwavering and supportive, despite the blatant issues,
- 22:07threatened divorce but ended up not following through instead,
- 22:12she sat by, and watched her business decline, her marriage,
- 22:16rod, and her husband, grow, ever stranger, and more bizarre, and
- 22:21his Antics, it was apparent, his family and staff that he was.
- 22:25Now, drinking every day who had often arrived, drunk to the
- 22:29stores, everything was dirty. The stores began to become
- 22:33cluttered and unkempt, as did their Estates yard and inside
- 22:38the home itself, cluttered and overgrown a year.
- 22:43Now, had passed since Virgil vandagriff, and Mary Wilson
- 22:47began using Tony's in tow to search.
- 22:49For the true. Identity of the man that was
- 22:51known as bright smart, their leads up until this point had
- 22:56gone nowhere, and they were on the verge of giving up, but
- 23:00their luck was about to change. Change assuming his presence had
- 23:05cooled down so to speak within the gay community Brian Smart.
- 23:09Re-emerged on the scene at a club called The Varsity Lounge,
- 23:13the evening of August 29, 1995 and Tony Harris.
- 23:19Just so happened to be present. He arrived after a brief and
- 23:24nonchalant chat with him, Tony then quickly made his way to the
- 23:27parking, lot to watch, Brian drive away, and to record his
- 23:31license. Plate, the plate.
- 23:33Number was seven, 5237 a, and did not belong to anyone named
- 23:39Brian smart. But instead belong to a man
- 23:43named Herbert are Baumeister of Westfield Indiana.
- 23:48He also just so happened to be a well-known, wealthy businessman,
- 23:52and the owner of a luxurious estate called Fox Hollow Farm, a
- 23:58beautiful home that boasted a swimming pool in its basement.
- 24:02All the information. Tony now provided began to check
- 24:05out and Vandergriff and Mary were convinced that they had
- 24:09their man and began to move in as the police were closing in
- 24:14her began to unravel Mary, and her boss, lieutenant Thomas
- 24:19Green approached Baumeister at his Washington Street store on
- 24:23November 1st, 1995 without Small Talk.
- 24:27They told him that he was a suspect in The Disappearance of
- 24:30several young men at the Inn. Indianapolis community and that
- 24:34they wanted to search his Home Herb.
- 24:36Then refused and replied with a full smile and told them that
- 24:41all Communications must go through his lawyer when this
- 24:45failed Mary than approach Julie, who looked like she had seen a
- 24:49ghost when confronted with the news.
- 24:52She was given Mary's card and urged to call her.
- 24:55She changed her mind to authorize a search.
- 24:59It wasn't until June of 1996 about.
- 25:02Out, six months after the initial contact was made.
- 25:05The Julie decided to make that call.
- 25:07She had watched her business fail and her marriage dissolve,
- 25:11and her husband devolve into a strange and paranoid wreak upon
- 25:17some reflecting, she realized that she no longer felt that
- 25:20loyalty or obligation to him any longer.
- 25:25After arranging the call through her lawyer.
- 25:27Julie took the opportunity to inform Mary about the skeletal
- 25:30remains her son, had found the backyard, all those years ago,
- 25:35thankfully with her about of the house, visiting his mother with
- 25:38one of their sons, as soon as humanly possible with several
- 25:42other detectives with her Mary, anxiously drove to Fox Hollow
- 25:47Farm. The backyard at first glance
- 25:50looked overgrown, but otherwise, normal it is, the men began to
- 25:54Kick the low grass, they encountered a bone, which would
- 25:58turn out to be human about a foot long and burns.
- 26:03They quickly knew that they had just stumbled onto something
- 26:06huge. They would discover thousands of
- 26:09Bones and Bone fragments strewn across the yard, some of them
- 26:13buried and others laying on top of the ground.
- 26:17It was like as soon as they found one fragment, they quickly
- 26:20discovered another a never-ending trail of Order
- 26:25before they could act any further.
- 26:27They took several evidence bags full of bone fragments to the
- 26:31agency's forensic anthropologist at the University of Indiana for
- 26:36examination. He would indeed confirm that
- 26:39they were human. And recently deceased the
- 26:43following day, the estate was sectioned off as a crime scene
- 26:47and agents quickly. Got to work collecting evidence
- 26:51Upon A search inside the home. They discovered the Ian's wet
- 26:55bar and pool just as Tony Harris had described.
- 26:59However, they also noticed something that Tony apparently
- 27:02had not tucked in the corner of the room was his semi hidden
- 27:06video, camera one, that undoubtedly would have been used
- 27:10to record the murders. Each Discovery only deepened,
- 27:14the bizarre nature of the mystery as it unfolded, the hunt
- 27:19for her Baumeister was now in full swing, this more than
- 27:225,500, bone fragments. They alone were pulled from the
- 27:26graveyard upon Fox Hollow Farm bits of bone from every part of
- 27:31the body teeth and hair. But after departing the lake
- 27:36house at his mother's estate herb was nowhere to be found.
- 27:40He had disappeared into the proverbial list from what could
- 27:44be determined at the time. Herb had fled in his 1989 gray
- 27:48Buick and was heading north the following day.
- 27:52He had phoned his brother asking for money from The business.
- 27:56However, it was a futile request later.
- 28:00He would enter as a fugitive and to Canada would make his way to
- 28:03Ontario over the course of several days.
- 28:07Then at Pinery park on the evening of July, the 3rd.
- 28:12Her would put a 357 Magnum Revolver to his forehead and
- 28:17pull the trigger. He left behind a note
- 28:19attributing, his decision to a failing business and marriage,
- 28:23but there was no mention Of the skeletons left of Westfield.
- 28:27Instead, his final words on the three-page suicide, no stated
- 28:32that he would now eat a peanut butter sandwich, his favorite
- 28:35snack, and then go to sleep. Although never directly proven
- 28:40in Trials, since he was never apprehended, it's suspected that
- 28:44her Baumeister killed up to 25 men, over the course of several
- 28:48years at Fox Hollow Farm, while acting out his sick fantasies.
- 28:53And although a So, camera was discovered after thorough
- 28:57searching through the Save-A-Lot stores.
- 28:59And the estate no videotapes were ever uncovered leading many
- 29:05to believe that they could still be out there somewhere or even
- 29:08buried somewhere. This dramatic end to a bizarre
- 29:12story. However, wouldn't truly be the
- 29:15event because many over the years, have claimed that those
- 29:19whose lives were taken at Fox Hollow Farm, never truly left.
- 29:24After rocking the community with the horrific, discovery of the
- 29:28proverbial graveyard and the murder farm at Fox Hollow, along
- 29:33with the demise of a wants prolific family, and businessman
- 29:37Herb Baumeister at his own hands.
- 29:40The community did what he could to forget talks initially were
- 29:45had about demolishing the property, but that never came to
- 29:49fruition instead. It would be purchased by a
- 29:52private investor. Fox Hollow Farm will be placed
- 29:56back on the market. A new owners would purchase it
- 30:00more than two decades after the bodies were found Robin Vicki
- 30:04Graves had found what appeared to be their dream home looking
- 30:08to escape the big city life and take up a more rural one for
- 30:12themselves and their two teenage Sons.
- 30:15They found Fox Hollow Farm and were shocked at how affordable
- 30:19it was for the sheer size and quality of the property, sensing
- 30:23that, it was too good to be true.
- 30:24True. They asked what could possibly
- 30:26be wrong with it because that a passing glance, it seemed
- 30:30absolutely gorgeous. Then it came to Rob.
- 30:35He had remembered the name from a news broadcast, many years
- 30:38ago, unbeknownst to him and his wife.
- 30:41They were now standing on the very same grounds that were once
- 30:44owned by Herb Baumeister, the notorious serial killer, they
- 30:49immediately brought this up to the real estate agent who was
- 30:52showing them the property. He immediately told that that
- 30:55was indeed the case that the private investor had indeed
- 30:59purchased the estate from the Widow of herb, following the
- 31:03disturbing. Discovery of the bodies back in
- 31:05the 1990s, but that it had been completely remodeled from head
- 31:10to toe removing any and all remnants of what it looked like
- 31:14in the murders had taken place all those years ago, but that's
- 31:18why I was indeed so affordable because no one wanted to live
- 31:22there due to the history. After some further discussion
- 31:26among the couple, they ultimately decided to purchase
- 31:29the property within a couple weeks.
- 31:32The family moves in and falls in love with Fox Hollow Farm the
- 31:36teenage son soon, make it a habit to play outside and then
- 31:40wash off in the pool in the basement soon.
- 31:43Tracking, dirt and gravel all throughout the home, one day
- 31:48Vicki is vacuuming up the dirt that the boys had brought in
- 31:51from the outside around the pool.
- 31:54When When suddenly, her vacuum loses power.
- 31:57Believing that perhaps she had accidentally unplugged it from
- 32:00the outlet. She plugged it back in and
- 32:02continued her work within several more minutes.
- 32:06It happened again perplexed this time because she was even more
- 32:11aware and careful about the cord on the outlet.
- 32:14She knew she hadn't unplugged. So she plugged it back in and
- 32:18triple checked that it wasn't just falling out of the outlet,
- 32:21by pulling the cord. Evermore where this time, she
- 32:25goes back to vacuuming, but keeping a present, I on the
- 32:28court itself and to her amazement, it pulls out on its
- 32:32own. As if someone had grabbed and
- 32:35pulled it out of the socket startled, she drops the vacuum
- 32:40who is beside herself. She doesn't know how to make
- 32:42sense of what had just happened and this would just be the
- 32:46beginning of the strangers that would occur Rob, worked at a car
- 32:51dealership. And one of his employees was a
- 32:54man named Joe Joe had been a great employee but had a problem
- 32:58of being chronically late most of the time as he probed to
- 33:02figure out what was going on Joe and formed Rob that he lived
- 33:06over an hour away and really needed.
- 33:08The job would be willing to move closer if the opportunity
- 33:11presented itself. Well, Rob thought about it and
- 33:16ended up offering Joe a place to rent located on Fox Hollow Farm.
- 33:20They had a guest house that they work.
- 33:22Considering renting out his apartments for quite some time
- 33:26and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to benefit everyone
- 33:29involved. Joe would indeed move in just a
- 33:32few days later, it takes several hours, but within that time
- 33:36frame, they're able to get everything inside and finish.
- 33:39The move exhausted. Joe decides to retire for the
- 33:43night with his dog, Fred as he lays down to sleep in his newly
- 33:47set up bed, he then finds himself in a horrific nightmare.
- 33:52He's being chased through out, Fox Hollow Farm by something.
- 33:55He can't see. The dream is so intense that it
- 33:59causes him to sleepwalk which wasn't something that he was
- 34:02known to do. He began to run while still
- 34:06dreaming and ran directly into the door frame.
- 34:09As he tried to escape the guest house, falling back.
- 34:13He knocked into a nearby glass of water, which fell and
- 34:16shattered, cutting his hands, the impact and cutting of his
- 34:21hands, finally. Woke him up and he was forced to
- 34:24sit back and Ponder just what had taken place.
- 34:28And things would only intensify from here another day soon after
- 34:33Rob was painting the side of their home, the different color
- 34:36as he and his wife remarks on how nice to finish job will be.
- 34:40She spots something out of the corner of her eye.
- 34:43She had seen a man in a red shirt staring at them as she
- 34:47broke away from her husband and began to approach.
- 34:49The figure is started to walk away from her.
- 34:52And quickly disappeared as if it never existed.
- 34:57The couple then called out and check the perimeter.
- 35:00But never found anyone, they dismissed the person as nothing
- 35:04more than a curious trespasser. I mean, after all, they did
- 35:08purchase a serial killers home, it is had to accept that.
- 35:11Curious, people may sneak up just to get a look at their home
- 35:15later. That night.
- 35:16Joe's doing the dishes in his apartment when he suddenly gets
- 35:20a series of knocks on his front door.
- 35:24Telling the person it'll just be a minute as he drives his hands
- 35:27off to go and answer the door. The series of knocks, begin to
- 35:31grow louder and more aggressive thinking.
- 35:35It was extremely strange or extremely urgent concerning
- 35:38Vicky or Rob. He went and answered the doors.
- 35:41It was still being knocked upon. However, as he opened the door,
- 35:46it was no one to be found automatically on guard.
- 35:50He peers outside the knocking had been Happening, when he
- 35:54answered the door so no person could have got very far while he
- 35:58answered, mid knock, he glanced around and yet saw and heard
- 36:03nothing. He stepped outside and began to
- 36:06examine the roof in the nearby areas.
- 36:10And still, there was nothing there really weirded out at this
- 36:14point. He made his way back inside and
- 36:16bolted the door, locked behind him.
- 36:19He started to make his way back to the kitchen to finish doing
- 36:22his dishes. Spotted a man standing in his
- 36:25bedroom staring at it. Upon spotting the figure his dog
- 36:31begins to growl and make sounds that he's never heard him make
- 36:34before staring directly and the direction of the bedroom already
- 36:40on edge, he ran into the bedroom and flicked the light on only to
- 36:45discover that there was again, know what they're searching, the
- 36:50entire apartment. He again found nothing trying to
- 36:54rationalize and clears mind, he decided to take his dog Fred for
- 36:59a walk to calm down and unwind for the evening.
- 37:03Well, on his walk around the property, he thought to check on
- 37:07Rob and Vicki's house to see if the lights were on this.
- 37:10Would indicate to him that perhaps they were the ones who
- 37:13had knocked on his door and therefore, he could rest easy
- 37:16and figure out what it was about the following morning, however,
- 37:21upon arriving at their house. He found it, completely blacked
- 37:24out, they had already gone to bed for the night.
- 37:28Red, who was always a loyal and obedient dog, always walked with
- 37:32him without a leash and would always follow his commands.
- 37:36However, tonight would be a different story.
- 37:40Deciding to head, back to his apartment, he motioned for Fred
- 37:43to join him, but the dog would not budge.
- 37:47He suddenly began to growl and then bolted into the nearby Tree
- 37:51Line. Instinctively, Joe ran after his
- 37:54dog but not before seeing what his dog was running after.
- 37:58After before his eyes and the very same tree line was a man in
- 38:03a red shirt, although he was absolutely terrified.
- 38:07Joe couldn't let anything happen to his beloved, dog.
- 38:10So he continued to run towards this man when suddenly whoever
- 38:15or whatever this was disappeared before his eyes.
- 38:21Although slightly behind, he would quickly catch up to Fred.
- 38:25And now, noticed him not acting aggressive at all, but rather
- 38:28showing his belly and submission staring in the direction of Joe.
- 38:34Joe knowing his dog knew that something very strange had to be
- 38:38up with them. He suddenly felt as if someone
- 38:41was staring directly at him, he's slowly turned around to see
- 38:46The Apparition of a man red shirt with a twist of fate.
- 38:51Staring back at him, just several feet away.
- 38:55Joe is, most of us would ran out of there as fast as he could.
- 39:00His loyal companion, following him the to run as fast as they
- 39:05can. Back to the apartment where they
- 39:07Rush inside, lock and deadbolt, the door and nervously.
- 39:11Watch out of the blinds for the rest of the night, the following
- 39:15morning, and even more exhausted.
- 39:17Joe makes his way to Vicki and Rob's house to discuss the
- 39:20price. Your night's events as he's
- 39:22telling both of them. What happened?
- 39:25Vicki starts to become a lotion. She too had seen the man in red,
- 39:29just days earlier, she points to where she saw him and lo and
- 39:33behold, it's the exact same spot that Joe had encountered The
- 39:37Entity the night before, as the day progressed tonight, Joe yet
- 39:42again found himself in his apartment hoping to finally get
- 39:45some rest. But as he settled down in his
- 39:48bed, he was suddenly startled by knocking at his door, as he
- 39:53yelled out. Who is it, as he made his way
- 39:56towards the door? He didn't receive inaudible
- 39:59answer back, just more aggressive knocking at the door,
- 40:04the door itself. Now, shaking facing his fear of
- 40:08the unknown did knock Joe throws.
- 40:11The door open, only to meet face-to-face.
- 40:16It's nothing. As he frantically looks around
- 40:19the yard while holding the door. He notices that the doors
- 40:22knocking apparatus is sticking straight out.
- 40:26As if someone is holding it at then drops.
- 40:30One Last Time, knocking the door, absolutely petrified.
- 40:35Joe slams. The door locks it as he tries to
- 40:38catch his breath and take several steps backwards he sees
- 40:42the doorknob begin to turn them without Without warning the
- 40:47door. Bursts open shattering the lock
- 40:51the open door yet again. Reveals no one after a moment of
- 40:55Frozen Terror, Joe runs outside and into the front yard of his
- 40:59apartment screaming and searching all around for, just
- 41:03who could be doing this after several minutes.
- 41:07He stares back into the house, to the open, front door, and
- 41:10sees a man dressed in all white standing there.
- 41:13He's soaked from head to toe and what appears to Get water and is
- 41:18screaming in the muted voice as if he's being held under water,
- 41:23he then bolts towards Joe and seemingly disappears into a list
- 41:28frantically, calling out to his dog, Fred to accompany him.
- 41:31Joe frantically makes his way to Rob and Vicki's house on the
- 41:34property. He's so terrified that he's
- 41:37shaking now, and Robin Vicki, you're just as scared.
- 41:41They now truly believe that they are dealing with something
- 41:43paranormal in nature. In order to rationalize, this
- 41:47situation makes sense of what was taking place.
- 41:51They begin to believe that they're experiencing the results
- 41:54of the murders conducted by Herb Baumeister.
- 41:58And that his victims are either trapped here, somehow or their
- 42:02energy is stuck in an endless loop.
- 42:05We're playing their final and tragic moments over and over and
- 42:11over again. Refusing to return to his
- 42:16apartment, Robin Vicki. Being the support of friends.
- 42:19They were agreed that Joe could stay the night with them and
- 42:22together. They would begin researching
- 42:24online to try and formulate, some kind of a plan of action of
- 42:28what to do next. As they collectively scour, the
- 42:32Baumeister case information, they find themselves.
- 42:35Looking at the list of identified victims as they get
- 42:39deeper into the details. Joe is shocked.
- 42:43He stops them on a picture of a man in a white shirt.
- 42:46That was the man I saw in my apartment who was soaked from
- 42:49head to toe and screaming, although this information still
- 42:54scares them, it does help reassure them that they are
- 42:57indeed dealing with the victims of this horrendous.
- 43:00His tragedy, they are especially convinced considering many of
- 43:04the remains have never been identified so they continue to
- 43:08research the case after several uneventful days.
- 43:12Joe finds himself almost compelled to walk around the
- 43:15property with his dog except this time in broad daylight.
- 43:20So apprehensively, he makes his way with Fred to the area where
- 43:25both, he and Vickie have seen the man in red on separate
- 43:28occasions. Just Tree line on the Walking
- 43:32path. Joe stopped by what looks to be
- 43:34a bone. He believes that it's impossible
- 43:37that such a bone could have been missed during the extensive
- 43:40searches over the years. But nonetheless is right here.
- 43:44Right now is if it had been placed there for him to discover
- 43:49quickly Consulting and showing Rob and Vicky the discovery,
- 43:53they too believed that this could be a bone belonging to the
- 43:56mysterious man in red. They ended up contacting the
- 43:59lead detective on. On the Baumeister case and
- 44:02submitted the bone, which turned out to be a human, femur bone,
- 44:06in his evidence. And for analysis, they then
- 44:10requested, if the investigator himself could come out to the
- 44:13property and explain to them, just weird things had taken
- 44:16place, so they could have a better understanding of what
- 44:20happened to, which he obliged several days passed, and Joe.
- 44:25By this point had made his way back to his apartment to try and
- 44:29settle back in given the name. Formation while on his computer,
- 44:33checking his emails. He began to hear a scraping
- 44:36almost metallic like sound originating from the kitchen
- 44:40upon further examination. He sees that all of his butcher
- 44:44knives. From his knife block have been
- 44:46neatly arranged in his sink, placed in a row equally spaced
- 44:51from one, another glancing around the room.
- 44:54He spots, fresh deep Cuts in the wood of the nearby counter
- 44:58cabinet. He believes that this could be a
- 45:01sign for one of the victims crying for help.
- 45:04He starts to try and figure out the mystery.
- 45:08He takes out his phone begins recording asking probing
- 45:12questions to whoever or whatever could be there and hopes of
- 45:16helping them in any way that he can prior to this.
- 45:20Of course, he turned off any and all appliances that can
- 45:23interfere with the process. He begins by asking a series of
- 45:27questions and doesn't seem to get much of anything at least
- 45:31not audibly. But then towards the end of his
- 45:34questions. Fred begins to growl same, Eerie
- 45:37growl. He had any time, they'd
- 45:39experienced something, previously, taking this as
- 45:42confirmation that perhaps His companion could see, or hear
- 45:46something that he couldn't, he quickly downloads the audio file
- 45:50and begins to listen to it on his computer and to his shock.
- 45:55He did indeed receive a response.
- 45:58This is the clip of the actually VP that was recorded who keeps
- 46:02walking in the kitchen. He believes he hears the married
- 46:09one. But in all of their research,
- 46:12all of the victims were young single gay men.
- 46:16The only one who was married was one Herb Baumeister.
- 46:21This Revelation is startled. He not only believes that the
- 46:24victims were trapped within the grounds of Fox Hollow Farm, but
- 46:29that perhaps this serial killer himself, could to be trapped
- 46:33here, but would follow would be dozens of paranormal.
- 46:37To gatien's. And those investigations would
- 46:40lead the group to believe that they were not only dealing with
- 46:43the spirits of the victims haunting the grounds, but either
- 46:46a dark entity and personating Baumeister or the killer
- 46:50himself. Several years after the events,
- 46:54the graves family would end up selling Fox.
- 46:56Hollow Farm, it will continue to change hands over the years
- 47:00since then leading to multiple new owners of the property and
- 47:04although new information doesn't seem to be public.
- 47:07Available. It's still considered one of the
- 47:10most haunted places in Indiana, if not, the world given its
- 47:15unique and gruesome history, and independent film would go on to
- 47:19be made about called The Haunting of Fox Hollow Farm and
- 47:23Robert Graves along with another man named Richard me step Who
- 47:27led many paranormal investigations at Fox Hollow,
- 47:30Farm hukou, write a book detailing, the families creepy
- 47:34experiences, what they believed to be altered, Really happened.
- 47:39So in conclusion, we know that Herb Baumeister was mentally ill
- 47:43ultimately but what makes this case so strange, so compelling
- 47:47to me, is that he was an outstanding member of his
- 47:50community for the longest time. He was The Smiling neighbor, the
- 47:55charitable businessman, The Happy Family, Man, an overall a
- 48:00pillar of normalcy. But behind closed doors his
- 48:05psyche his soul contained. A darkness that most of us will
- 48:10never be able to comprehend yet alone unravel and understand.
- 48:16So could the murderous Deeds of a twisted individual trapped
- 48:19Souls on a property and perhaps, open some kind of a portal could
- 48:24the unleashing of such energy like what is expressed in a
- 48:27violent death contribute to something like this if it
- 48:31wasn't, what's known? As Intelligent haunting where
- 48:34the spirits are aware of what has happened to them, and are
- 48:37indeed trapped there, which very well could still be the case,
- 48:42then, perhaps it could be a residual haunting where the
- 48:45events are of such magnitude and strength that they play on a
- 48:49loop for all time. But the souls who were involved
- 48:53have long since moved on. These are questions that we may
- 48:57never have answers to that all things that we should Ponder the
- 49:02one thing. Is for certain the malicious
- 49:04calculation of her Baumeister and the horrendous things that
- 49:08he did to the suspected 25 victims at Fox Hollow Farms,
- 49:13should never be forgotten. They are indeed still
- 49:16identifying and using updated technology to identify remains
- 49:20that are still being found on the grounds.
- 49:23This has happened as recent as November 2022.
- 49:27So if you happen to be a family member of someone that you
