- 0:00- Welcome
- 0:13- to the divine five one five podcast.
- 0:16- Here is today's prayer.
- 0:24- Hello, and welcome to daily prayers with Valerie
- 0:27- Rocha.
- 0:28- Today's prayer focus is
- 0:30- addressing healing a wounded heart.
- 0:33- Scripture text comes from Ephesians four thirty one
- 0:36- through 32
- 0:37- and says,
- 0:38- get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger,
- 0:42- forgiving each other just as in Christ's book.
- 0:46- God forgave
- 0:48- you.
- 0:50- You know, forgiveness becomes much harder when the
- 0:52- wound is personal. I think we would all
- 0:54- agree with that.
- 0:56- And yet in the Lord's prayer,
- 1:00- the prayer addresses that we
- 1:03- forgive
- 1:04- others
- 1:05- as we have warned others.
- 1:08- And I often
- 1:10- say to the Lord when it gets to
- 1:12- this part of the prayer that I say
- 1:13- daily,
- 1:15- that we were the first offenders.
- 1:18- If we had not disobeyed,
- 1:21- then God would not have had to be
- 1:24- upset with us. And yet in our disobedience,
- 1:28- he chose to forgive us because he is
- 1:31- the original template.
- 1:33- And because of it, if we are going
- 1:35- to be like him,
- 1:37- we are to forgive others,
- 1:39- whether it's someone else or ourselves,
- 1:45- especially when there is no apology,
- 1:50- no explanation,
- 1:52- no accountability,
- 1:55- and no acknowledgment
- 1:56- of what happened.
- 2:00- We can know scripture tells us to forgive
- 2:03- and still struggle deeply with actually doing it.
- 2:08- And right here, I would
- 2:11- encourage,
- 2:13- you if you're struggling with this
- 2:15- to know that it's not always a one
- 2:17- and done depending on the level and layer
- 2:20- and depth of that hurt.
- 2:23- It's a process. You may have to go
- 2:25- back and ask God to,
- 2:28- help you forgive
- 2:30- more than once, and that's
- 2:32- okay.
- 2:34- It's almost like an onion, right? An onion
- 2:36- has layers, and to get to the core,
- 2:38- you have to peel away at it,
- 2:40- but it's always worth it. Why? Because unforgiveness
- 2:44- can feel like
- 2:46- protection.
- 2:47- We fear that forgiving means excusing the behavior
- 2:50- or reopening the door, which couldn't be farther
- 2:53- from the truth.
- 2:55- But forgiveness and reconciliation
- 2:58- are always the same thing.
- 3:00- It doesn't mean that forgiving
- 3:02- is... Goes back to that relationship.
- 3:06- But what it does do is that it
- 3:08- releases our right to carry the offense indefinitely
- 3:12- because unforgiveness
- 3:13- is like a poison. If you hold on
- 3:16- to it long enough,
- 3:17- it will affect
- 3:19- every part of who you are, including the
- 3:21- relationships with others.
- 3:23- Healthy boundaries may still be necessary
- 3:26- and very strongly recommended.
- 3:32- Sometimes forgiveness begins before
- 3:35- feelings change.
- 3:36- That's where faith comes in.
- 3:39- And it can be as simple as praying,
- 3:43- father, I'm willing to become willing to forgive.
- 3:47- And you may have to say it a
- 3:49- few times because faith comes by hearing
- 3:51- and hearing comes by the word of God.
- 3:55- Then we just keep bringing the offense back
- 3:58- to God whenever it resurfaces.
- 4:01- Forgiveness can be a decision we repeatedly surrender
- 4:04- until our emotions begin catching up with it.
- 4:09- So
- 4:10- that being said, if you're struggling with unforgiveness
- 4:13- or a broken heart today,
- 4:15- take heart. God is faithful,
- 4:17- and he will get you through it.
- 4:19- That being said,
- 4:21- let's pray.
- 4:23- Father God, you know what happened and how
- 4:25- deeply it affected us.
- 4:29- Help us to release the offense without minimizing
- 4:33- the hurt.
- 4:34- Free our hearts from bitterness and give us
- 4:37- wisdom
- 4:38- for healthy boundaries.
- 4:42- Teach us to forgive from the grace you
- 4:44- have shown us,
- 4:46- and we will bless you in Jesus' name.
- 4:50- Well,
- 4:51- forgiveness may be a process,
- 4:54- and the first step
- 4:57- is willingness
- 4:58- to
- 5:00- do it.
- 5:02- If someone you know is wrestling with forgiveness
- 5:06- or if you're wrestling with forgiveness,
- 5:10- it's okay to say this prayer
- 5:14- over and over again.
- 5:16- It's not important
- 5:19- about
- 5:21- how
- 5:22- it makes you
- 5:23- feel
- 5:25- because it's about faith.
- 5:27- It's just about knowing
- 5:29- that you can bring the offense
- 5:32- to God.
- 5:34- That being said, remember
- 5:37- to release the offense
- 5:38- one prayer at a time.
