Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / The Intel With Greg Cosell: Tape Evaluation Of Eagles 2026 NFL Draft Haul
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: Well, welcome back to the Intel with Greg Cosell. On
- 0:10Speaker 1: Inside the Birds, I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan. Of
- 0:13Speaker 1: course we got Greg Cosell. The NFL Draft twenty twenty
- 0:16Speaker 1: six is behind us, and now we bring Greg in
- 0:20Speaker 1: to give us more evaluations on who the Eagles picked.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Get Greg's thoughts from their tape and what it all
- 0:28Speaker 1: means for the Eagles, and then in another podcast we'll
- 0:31Speaker 1: do the NFC East and get because there are a
- 0:33Speaker 1: lot of high picks, there are some pretty good picks
- 0:35Speaker 1: from the Eagles division rivals that will go through as well.
- 0:37Speaker 1: But in this show we talk about the Eagles, Greg,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and I think the surprise element is that we all
- 0:43Speaker 1: went into the draft thinking offensive tackle would probably the
- 0:46Speaker 1: likeliest position. I'm some of those guys went early trade
- 0:53Speaker 1: ups and all that, but the Eagles instead move up
- 0:55Speaker 1: a little bit to get Makayle Lemon. And we did
- 0:58Speaker 1: have you break down Mikayla Lemon's tape, But now that
- 1:01Speaker 1: the Eagles have picked him, what are your thoughts based
- 1:04Speaker 1: on his tape and what they want to do offensively?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Well, given the nature now of this new offensive scheme
- 1:10Speaker 2: with Sean Manyon, who obviously has that Shanahan McVeigh background.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I think makayle Lemon fits perfectly into that schematic because
- 1:19Speaker 2: to me, McKayle Lemon is more of a compliment. It's
- 1:23Speaker 2: probably too weak, but mkayle Lemon is not like a
- 1:26Speaker 2: big time number one where you just say, hey, we
- 1:29Speaker 2: got mikayle Lemon. We can do anything with him, okay,
- 1:32Speaker 2: because mkayle Lemon is just he's five eleven, one ninety two.
- 1:36Speaker 2: He's not explosive. He's a very very good route runner
- 1:40Speaker 2: who understands how to use his vertical stem, how to
- 1:43Speaker 2: attack corners, how to get them turned, how to attack
- 1:46Speaker 2: their blind spots once they're turned. For his size, he's physical,
- 1:51Speaker 2: very very competitive. But to me, he's kind of a
- 1:56Speaker 2: pre snap movement guy, the kind of guy you line
- 1:59Speaker 2: up all over your formation. He's not a boundary X.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You know, can he do that once in a while
- 2:04Speaker 2: because within the context of this offense, receivers line up
- 2:08Speaker 2: in different spots. But he's not the guy you you
- 2:10Speaker 2: draft and say he's my boundary X. So ultimately it's
- 2:14Speaker 2: a very good pick within the context of what they're
- 2:16Speaker 2: going to do offensively.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Did you notice Greg.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Because we talked about this leading up, is that you
- 2:23Speaker 4: know he's really not a true outside receiver. Yes, he
- 2:25Speaker 4: has lined up outside, right, was a did they reduce
- 2:29Speaker 4: him at USC? How did they use him the outside?
- 2:31Speaker 2: From here? No? He predominantly at USC lined up in
- 2:35Speaker 2: the slot. I mean that's the bottom line.
- 2:37Speaker 3: No.
- 2:37Speaker 4: But when but when you saw him line up? Okay,
- 2:39Speaker 4: when they moved him? Because my thinking is just knowing
- 2:43Speaker 4: the way the Rams do things. You know, they they
- 2:46Speaker 4: come Nicola and Cup. They had to reduce those guys, right,
- 2:50Speaker 4: So I'm thinking, if Lemon's gonna line up outside, it's
- 2:52Speaker 4: not truly outside.
- 2:53Speaker 2: No, And that's what this offense is, as you well know, Adam,
- 2:56Speaker 2: is that even guys who line up outside are not
- 2:59Speaker 2: necessarily out side the numbers. Now, Lemon was featured as
- 3:04Speaker 2: the motion receiver in the USC pass game with pre
- 3:08Speaker 2: snap movement on almost seventy percent of his targets. And
- 3:11Speaker 2: this is a pre snap movement offense, so you know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: he fits exactly what they do. I'm sure that when
- 3:18Speaker 2: they saw that he was available, I'm sure he was
- 3:20Speaker 2: rated higher on their board then, and that's why they
- 3:23Speaker 2: went up and got him. The reality is they wanted
- 3:26Speaker 2: offensive linemen and the guys I think the two players
- 3:31Speaker 2: they wanted. Again, this is you know, you have these
- 3:34Speaker 2: conversations and you know no one's going to say, hey,
- 3:36Speaker 2: this is it, this is it. You know that people
- 3:38Speaker 2: lie to you and we all know that, and that's
- 3:40Speaker 2: why the mock drafts are just you know, fun and games.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But I think they wanted Blake Miller and Ione, and
- 3:46Speaker 2: both guys ended up being gone, and therefore they had
- 3:49Speaker 2: to then go to what's next. And Lemon was obviously
- 3:52Speaker 2: a player they wanted, and again without overly stating it,
- 3:56Speaker 2: it fits this style of offense that they're implementing.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Greg, you may have the stats, sometimes you do. I
- 4:02Speaker 1: believe last year at USC, as you mentioned, he played
- 4:05Speaker 1: eighty five percent of his snaps in the slot. I
- 4:08Speaker 1: think the year before was a little bit more inside outside.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I don't know if you're right the numbers on that.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, But I mean, ultimately, look, we see how the
- 4:18Speaker 2: league's changed. You know, you don't have to be a
- 4:20Speaker 2: big receiver to play outside. You know. Look, I mean,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you know, you know we see someone like Jordan Aison,
- 4:26Speaker 2: a different kind of receiver than Lemon, but he came in.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I think it won seventy three and he's played outside
- 4:32Speaker 2: from Minnesota. So the league has evolved and changed in
- 4:35Speaker 2: the way that they run offense with more and more
- 4:37Speaker 2: pre snap movement, you know, so and more and more
- 4:40Speaker 2: reduced splits, so you can still be an outside receiver
- 4:43Speaker 2: and not necessarily line up outside the numbers.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Who is a guy that you could camp him to
- 4:49Speaker 1: and say, this is what I'm reminded of when I
- 4:52Speaker 1: watch mkayle Lemon play.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I mean, you know, people will say he's better than
- 4:58Speaker 2: the guy I'm going to mention, and and he's and
- 5:00Speaker 2: he is better, but I think there are similarities. And
- 5:03Speaker 2: this is going to sound like a negative, but it's not.
- 5:07Speaker 2: You know, he's kind of like Khalil Shakir. I mean,
- 5:09Speaker 2: and don't forget Shakira plays in a pass game that
- 5:12Speaker 2: is not you know, and again we'll see how that
- 5:15Speaker 2: past game changes in Buffalo now that Joe Brady is
- 5:18Speaker 2: fully in charge and and you know, was not working
- 5:20Speaker 2: under Sean McDermott. But you know, kind of the guy
- 5:23Speaker 2: that is, you know, not super big, Shakiir is actually bigger,
- 5:28Speaker 2: good run after catch, you know, can catch the ball
- 5:31Speaker 2: in the middle of the field, has no problem with
- 5:33Speaker 2: that at all. You know, competitive, tough, you know, that's
- 5:37Speaker 2: what Lemon is. He's Lemon is a good receiver, you know,
- 5:40Speaker 2: and in this particular class. You know, Look, I spoke
- 5:43Speaker 2: to a number of coaches, and the receiving class was
- 5:46Speaker 2: all over the board. I mean, I can tell you
- 5:48Speaker 2: right now that I spoke to the coach that's been
- 5:51Speaker 2: in the league, that's been in the league for thirty
- 5:53Speaker 2: five years on the offensive side of the ball, and
- 5:56Speaker 2: because the Niners are getting ripped, but this particular coach
- 5:59Speaker 2: had to shown stribbling rated ahead of MacKaye Lemon. So
- 6:02Speaker 2: you know, you can go to you can go to
- 6:04Speaker 2: any number of coaches and you guys know this, and
- 6:07Speaker 2: you'll find totally different points of view, which is why
- 6:10Speaker 2: the concept of consensus is just a total waste of
- 6:13Speaker 2: time conversation.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Adam, Adam, didn't you have until that you had talked
- 6:18Speaker 1: to somebody who rated Lemon even higher than Tate?
- 6:21Speaker 3: Right? Yeah?
- 6:22Speaker 4: He one receivers coach had Lemon over tap. But what's funny, Yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 4: without I'm gonna this is interesting. So a guy that
- 6:29Speaker 4: the three of us know, is a scout that we know,
- 6:32Speaker 4: had Lemon as his seventh or sixth receiver.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's you can find that all over, which which
- 6:38Speaker 2: is why you know, that's why the whole concept of consensus,
- 6:42Speaker 2: and that's that's what the evaluation becomes of these players.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You know that that the way people judge these draft
- 6:50Speaker 2: choices is they do it. But you are based on
- 6:52Speaker 2: the consensus. And I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I
- 6:55Speaker 2: believe you. I don't know, so this is not hey,
- 6:58Speaker 2: me knowing because I don't know what draft boards look like.
- 7:01Speaker 2: But the consensus is based on people that have no
- 7:05Speaker 2: idea what draft boards look like. So it's it's it
- 7:09Speaker 2: to me. That's not my world. That's a waste of
- 7:11Speaker 2: my time. You know, all I do is evaluate the players.
- 7:15Speaker 1: You know, you were pretty clear Greg when we did
- 7:17Speaker 1: the wide receiver preview and went through maybe ten or
- 7:21Speaker 1: twelve of them that there was no Jamar Chase. It's
- 7:25Speaker 1: not and that, but that the guys who you thought
- 7:28Speaker 1: might go in the first round you thought had the
- 7:30Speaker 1: chance to be really good number two wide receivers, and
- 7:34Speaker 1: especially if they come into the right scheme.
- 7:36Speaker 2: And I think that, I think that the idea, that's
- 7:40Speaker 2: the other thing I've been giving a lot of thought
- 7:41Speaker 2: to if there's no super you know, transcendent number one
- 7:46Speaker 2: like a Jamar Chase or going back years to the
- 7:48Speaker 2: aj Greens and the Julio Joneses, then what it becomes
- 7:52Speaker 2: is a function of the schematics of your offense. You know,
- 7:56Speaker 2: Carnell Tate is you know, from what I gather, From
- 8:00Speaker 2: what I gather, Carnell Tate was clear well obviously not well,
- 8:03Speaker 2: we gather we know he was very high on the
- 8:05Speaker 2: board for the Titans, or they would not have drafted him. Now,
- 8:08Speaker 2: in the context of the way offense is played now
- 8:11Speaker 2: in the NFL, can Carnell Tate be a number one receiver?
- 8:15Speaker 2: He can. That doesn't mean he's Jamar Chase, right, you know,
- 8:20Speaker 2: you know, so it's all the scheme manics of your offense.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Now that's look, we're not gonna we're just talking ball here.
- 8:28Speaker 2: We saw the run on tight ends in the second round,
- 8:31Speaker 2: and these were not tight ends that a lot of
- 8:33Speaker 2: people thought of as being, oh my god, these guys
- 8:36Speaker 2: are great tight ends. But where have we seen the
- 8:39Speaker 2: league go in the last couple of years more multiple
- 8:42Speaker 2: tight end sets, even teams playing three tight ends because
- 8:46Speaker 2: some of them are guys you can split out. You
- 8:49Speaker 2: look at what the Bears did drafting Sam Rousch in
- 8:51Speaker 2: the third round. I happen to have a friend of
- 8:53Speaker 2: mine at the gym who's a big Bears fan. He's like,
- 8:55Speaker 2: what are they doing? And I was trying to explain
- 8:58Speaker 2: to him. You know, I heard Mike McDonald talk and
- 9:01Speaker 2: say the next phase of offense in the NFL is
- 9:04Speaker 2: teams playing with multiple tight ends but running eleven personnel concepts.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So that's why what the did Seahawks have with their
- 9:13Speaker 2: defense with em and Worri and not having to change
- 9:16Speaker 2: personnel to play all this is so good and why
- 9:20Speaker 2: they their World chance, one of the reasons their World champions.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So you know, it's all the evolution of offense and
- 9:27Speaker 2: then defense, and you know that's why there's no one
- 9:30Speaker 2: answer to this. That's why there's no Oh bad pick.
- 9:32Speaker 2: The consensus said that those are irrelevant comments. They don't
- 9:35Speaker 2: mean anything.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Adam, Remember when we used to say when the Eagles
- 9:38Speaker 1: come out with both Goddard and Calcata on the field,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's twelve. It's really eleven personnel in twelve personnel's body
- 9:46Speaker 1: because you really only have one true real tight end.
- 9:49Speaker 1: The other guy's a flex receiver, right.
- 9:50Speaker 2: And Botter can split too. How many times got in
- 9:52Speaker 2: the boundary reacts on the backside. So now you've gon
- 9:55Speaker 2: have Gotter and Tours. You line up in twelve personnel
- 9:59Speaker 2: and you can have the line up anywhere on your formation,
- 10:02Speaker 2: and if the defense days with base defensive personnel pre snap,
- 10:06Speaker 2: you theoretically have an advantage.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Sure as we transfer over here to Eli Stowers, Greg,
- 10:13Speaker 4: and we know the athletic numbers, the testing numbers were
- 10:16Speaker 4: almost historic, and it's just ridiculously great.
- 10:19Speaker 3: But this is a guy.
- 10:20Speaker 4: This would be his fourth year playing tight end right
- 10:23Speaker 4: New Mexico and then to Vanderbilt.
- 10:25Speaker 2: He's a fascinating guy with his background.
- 10:27Speaker 3: So let's take a look Greg, he's now with the Eagles. Go.
- 10:31Speaker 4: It's always about projection, right, This is what the NFL
- 10:34Speaker 4: Draft is about, projection of the next three to four years,
- 10:36Speaker 4: maybe five or six. How do you see him fitting
- 10:39Speaker 4: in with his football team?
- 10:40Speaker 2: Oh? I mean he fits in great. I mean you know,
- 10:43Speaker 2: just think of you know, again Sean Mannion coming from
- 10:46Speaker 2: the Packers, but with a Rams background and all that.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I mean, think of what the Rams did with three
- 10:50Speaker 2: tight ends, you know, I mean he's he's a versatile
- 10:53Speaker 2: chess piece with a three level dimension element to his game.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I mean, he's a high he possesses a higher level
- 11:00Speaker 2: athletic profile for quote unquote the tight end position. You know,
- 11:04Speaker 2: And again you're not drafting Stours to line him up
- 11:08Speaker 2: attached to the tackle, which doesn't mean he'll never do that,
- 11:11Speaker 2: but you're not drafting him to do that. So see
- 11:14Speaker 2: there's a perfect example where to me, guys, that's not
- 11:16Speaker 2: a weakness in his guys. If people say, well, he
- 11:18Speaker 2: can't he can't block defensive ends, well the Eagles know that.
- 11:22Speaker 2: You know, this is not like news to the Eagles
- 11:24Speaker 2: that he's not going to line up and but.
- 11:26Speaker 1: In fairness Greg Greg Helcaterra couldn't either, and they still
- 11:28Speaker 1: ask him to do it.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So I think that's why fans are I'm not on
- 11:31Speaker 2: a regular basis. You have to do it once in
- 11:34Speaker 2: a while because you can't be totally predictable. But you're
- 11:37Speaker 2: not drafting Stours for that role, right, so you know,
- 11:41Speaker 2: now you're drafting a guy that is essentially a chess
- 11:45Speaker 2: piece in an offense that can line up in multiple
- 11:48Speaker 2: locations with multiple splits. You can play twelve personnel. You
- 11:52Speaker 2: can even play thirteen personnel. You know, he could be
- 11:55Speaker 2: your only tight end depending on down and distance. And
- 11:58Speaker 2: you know, so he's you know, he's he's a high
- 12:01Speaker 2: level athletic talent for the position.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Jeff.
- 12:04Speaker 4: One of the things that we talked about in our
- 12:06Speaker 4: post raft show about how you usetours is it's similar
- 12:09Speaker 4: to the way other clubs have used undersized tight ends
- 12:12Speaker 4: as the f position. You get them off the line,
- 12:15Speaker 4: you see him a little bit behind the line of scrimmage.
- 12:18Speaker 3: It's not like they don't know this like with Calcutara.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Yes, we did criticize them last week becaus the tape
- 12:23Speaker 4: showed it that they sometimes asked me do things he
- 12:25Speaker 4: wasn't great at. But now you've got Ryan Mahaffey who
- 12:29Speaker 4: comes over from Green Bay. He and Manu come over
- 12:31Speaker 4: from Green Bay. He's a new tight ends coach, the
- 12:33Speaker 4: run game coordinator. They're going to have a plan. You
- 12:36Speaker 4: always have a plan for guys. They have to execute it.
- 12:38Speaker 4: But it's not like they don't know. He's very inexperienced.
- 12:41Speaker 4: This guy's a former quarterback, so this is only his
- 12:44Speaker 4: fourth year playing tight end. This is a this is
- 12:46Speaker 4: you know, earth by the way, only forty one percent
- 12:49Speaker 4: play times.
- 12:49Speaker 3: First year could didn't block very well well.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And obviously not everything works out because at the end
- 12:55Speaker 2: of the day, it's still human beings evaluating you and beings.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But every time a guys, if you look, if you
- 13:01Speaker 2: were to get the GM, you know, if you if
- 13:03Speaker 2: if Howie Roseman or any GM was being totally honest,
- 13:06Speaker 2: every time you draft a guy, they can tell you
- 13:09Speaker 2: exactly why they draft him and how they see him. Now,
- 13:12Speaker 2: does it always work out like that? Of course not,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and particularly when you get later in the draft. Later
- 13:17Speaker 2: in the draft becomes a little more of a crapshoot,
- 13:19Speaker 2: But there's still a plan. They're not just drafting a
- 13:22Speaker 2: guy randomly. They're not pulling it out of a hat,
- 13:25Speaker 2: you know, So there's still a plan. Whether that plan
- 13:27Speaker 2: works because later in the draft, obviously we're going to
- 13:30Speaker 2: get to that momentarily, I'm sure is you know, there's
- 13:33Speaker 2: reasons guys get drafted later, you know, so even though
- 13:36Speaker 2: you still see them a certain way, that might not
- 13:39Speaker 2: work out. Otherwise they would have been higher draft choices.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Right, So so let me ask you this, Krek, because
- 13:46Speaker 1: this is an unfair question. But that's why we pay
- 13:48Speaker 1: you the big bucks.
- 13:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:51Speaker 1: If you didn't know this is a based on your
- 13:53Speaker 1: what you observed on tape. If you didn't know that
- 13:56Speaker 1: Kyle's that Eli Stowers was new to the position. Okay,
- 13:59Speaker 1: if you didn't know he was a quarterback. If you're
- 14:01Speaker 1: just watching his tight end tape from the last few years,
- 14:05Speaker 1: could you tell that he's raw or does he look
- 14:07Speaker 1: like someone who's like a polished pass catching tight end.
- 14:12Speaker 2: And you know, it's funny that used the word raw
- 14:14Speaker 2: because I know, you know, there's certain words that everybody
- 14:17Speaker 2: throws around that I try not to use. I'm sure
- 14:19Speaker 2: I'm guilty just like most, but you know, words like raw, inconsistent.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You know, to me, those words don't mean a lot.
- 14:26Speaker 2: You have to say what that not and not you?
- 14:28Speaker 2: This is not directed you. No, no, I understand, Yeah, yeah,
- 14:30Speaker 2: you know, because could I see No, I couldn't see that. Now,
- 14:35Speaker 2: maybe my eye is not you know, maybe a tight
- 14:37Speaker 2: end coach can I'm not going to sit here and
- 14:39Speaker 2: say I know more than Ryan Mahafey or or the
- 14:41Speaker 2: tight end coaches in the league. That would be stupid.
- 14:43Speaker 2: This is what those guys focus on every single day
- 14:46Speaker 2: of their lives. I'm not focused on the tight end
- 14:48Speaker 2: position every day in my life.
- 14:50Speaker 1: No, I think your answer works because I you could
- 14:53Speaker 1: want one could assume if you'd only play a little
- 14:55Speaker 1: bit tight end. It was a great athlete that his
- 14:56Speaker 1: tape is just full of him just jumping up in
- 14:59Speaker 1: the air making cat Now, it's not like that, right,
- 15:02Speaker 1: That's what I was kidding at. Are you seeing some
- 15:04Speaker 1: pretty out running and some getting into the hip of
- 15:07Speaker 1: a linebacker or a safety?
- 15:08Speaker 2: Now now again, having said that, and you know, I'm
- 15:11Speaker 2: pulling up my notes, here's what I Here's a couple
- 15:14Speaker 2: of things I said that need to be worked on.
- 15:19Speaker 2: You know, first of all, you didn't see many routes
- 15:21Speaker 2: versus man coverage. So the question is can he separate
- 15:24Speaker 2: and win versus quality NFL man coverage. He certainly has
- 15:27Speaker 2: the athletic and physical traits to do that. Okay, he's
- 15:31Speaker 2: a little straight line linear as a route runner. You
- 15:34Speaker 2: know he's not. He's not necessarily a sink your hips
- 15:37Speaker 2: and snap out of brakes. But that's who he is.
- 15:40Speaker 2: That's not likely to change because that's an athletic element
- 15:43Speaker 2: in his body that's not likely to change. He's not
- 15:46Speaker 2: all of a sudden going to be you know, shifty
- 15:48Speaker 2: and elusive. You know. So these are things, you know,
- 15:52Speaker 2: but you know that when you draft him, so in
- 15:54Speaker 2: an ideal world, you're not going to ask him to
- 15:56Speaker 2: do those kinds of things. He's he's an explosive three
- 16:00Speaker 2: level to mention who's a specific kind of athlete.
- 16:04Speaker 1: There are not that many of those guys in the NFL.
- 16:06Speaker 1: By the way, if you look at three level, tight
- 16:08Speaker 1: end is not easy to find.
- 16:09Speaker 2: No, he can run the scene. And look, you know,
- 16:12Speaker 2: I go back and and Adam can probably remember this
- 16:15Speaker 2: from sitting in with myself and Jaws at numerous times.
- 16:18Speaker 2: But it almost all goes back and in some ways
- 16:20Speaker 2: it hasn't changed to Sid Gilman believing that if you
- 16:24Speaker 2: can control the middle of the field, you can control
- 16:27Speaker 2: the pass game, you know, and everything. Yeah, yeah, I
- 16:30Speaker 2: mean Adam, you remember that, right?
- 16:32Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that that was the al sid Gilman line.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Sid Gilman, If you don't remember, folks, he was part
- 16:37Speaker 4: of the Eagles, not Jady koch Steff.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Was he the father of modern passing game?
- 16:41Speaker 2: That he's the father of the modern day passing game?
- 16:44Speaker 3: Right right?
- 16:44Speaker 2: He was?
- 16:45Speaker 4: You're talking about the true one of the true legends
- 16:48Speaker 4: of the NFL game. There's some great NFL films footage
- 16:52Speaker 4: of him smoking a cigarette.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he's just one of my favorite characters of
- 16:57Speaker 1: the game because when they would sell.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Have MIC's on him, brag as you know, it's just phenomenal.
- 17:02Speaker 4: I just really special, special man. You didn't meet him,
- 17:06Speaker 4: did you ever?
- 17:07Speaker 2: He never did, he know, he's a little amazingly enough.
- 17:10Speaker 2: He was a little before my time. He before my time.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Yeah, but anyway, yeah, special man.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, So Greg, who is Eli States? He Kyle Pitts?
- 17:22Speaker 1: Is he a more athletic? Just sickier? John hu Smith? Like,
- 17:26Speaker 1: it's just so rare, you know, you find these guys
- 17:28Speaker 1: in the position who is he?
- 17:30Speaker 2: He's not look in some ways who he is? And again,
- 17:34Speaker 2: this guy was great for four or five years and
- 17:37Speaker 2: then he sort of faded away and then he in
- 17:39Speaker 2: some ways he's like Jimmy Graham.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Okay, I thought you were gonna say Waller, but okay,
- 17:44Speaker 1: that's sort of similar to no, yeah, okay.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I mean Graham was taller, you know, right and there. Yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 2: But I mean I'm speaking in terms of deployment.
- 17:54Speaker 1: You would think that you would take those four years
- 17:56Speaker 1: of Jimmy Graham every day of the week.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I mean, he would dominated And one thing, you were
- 18:02Speaker 4: on the field for his work at were you not stours?
- 18:05Speaker 3: Who me, yeah did you see it? Or I mean
- 18:07Speaker 3: you were in the stands but watching, Oh yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, God, I thought you meant like his personal work.
- 18:11Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no, yeah, yeah no.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I mean Stowars is a really good athlete. I mean
- 18:17Speaker 2: he moves very, very easily. You know, he's he's a
- 18:20Speaker 2: very interesting guy. I mean, and and you know, the
- 18:22Speaker 2: Eagles were really happy with with the with him because
- 18:25Speaker 2: they put out, you know, the whole thing on social
- 18:28Speaker 2: media about when they drafted him, so which I'm sure
- 18:30Speaker 2: you saw. So that tells you they were very just
- 18:32Speaker 2: like they did that with Jah Hot Campbell last year.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So that tells you they were happy with the pick.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Listen, the guy, the guy, I'm gonna say this probably
- 18:39Speaker 1: a thousand times more.
- 18:40Speaker 3: He has a.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Forty five and a half inch vertical. If you measured
- 18:44Speaker 1: my vertical, Greg's vertical, Adams vertical and added him up,
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't think you.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Hey, hey, yeah, vertical.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I forget Greg was a big time I once.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Set a vertical. It wasn't forty five. But I once
- 18:56Speaker 2: set a vertical.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well, what's the opposite of a vertical? I think
- 18:59Speaker 1: that's probably.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Now I have. Yeah, now my vertical is about two inches.
- 19:03Speaker 3: But didn't you run the forty did you tell you?
- 19:05Speaker 3: Right now?
- 19:05Speaker 2: I did? And I ran it as a freshman in
- 19:08Speaker 2: college for baseball, and I ran a four to eight.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Wow, that's pretty out over size.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Now, you would have made it as a mic linebacker
- 19:15Speaker 4: because Bill Pauline told us you had to release run
- 19:17Speaker 4: in the four seven is to be drafted.
- 19:18Speaker 2: So I probably could have gained one hundred pounds and
- 19:21Speaker 2: been a an offensive tackle because my shirt sleeves are
- 19:25Speaker 2: thirty four to thirty five.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Oh there you go.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Wow, Yeah, no, minor.
- 19:32Speaker 3: You know what I think about a thirty four to
- 19:33Speaker 3: thirty five.
- 19:33Speaker 2: I'm not sure anyway, Yes, I probausly would have been
- 19:36Speaker 2: an offensive tackle.
- 19:37Speaker 3: You were six. You were six four right now I was.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I'm getting older. I'm not quite four anymore. Yeah, all right.
- 19:45Speaker 1: That's a good segue because we're going to talk offensive tackle.
- 19:47Speaker 1: As the Eagles draft in the third round, Mark hel
- 19:50Speaker 1: Bell from Miami. These Miami tackles, Greg Man, they were
- 19:54Speaker 1: enormous power guys. Weren't they both of them?
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Bell, I mean he's he's six'. NINE i, mean
- 19:59Speaker 2: That's they're. RIDICULOUS i, MEAN i mean, REALLY i, mean
- 20:02Speaker 2: when you think about, it that's freaking. Ridiculous he's six'
- 20:05Speaker 2: nine on a quarter three. Forty six his arm length
- 20:09Speaker 2: is thirty six and three eighth and his wingspan is
- 20:12Speaker 2: eighty seven and. An eighth.
- 20:14Speaker 1: THAT'S crazy, i, Mean We joe ADAM and i were
- 20:17Speaker 1: joking on the last PART about i don't know if
- 20:18Speaker 1: You Remember, holland Pierce the rutgers kid who the, Eagle.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Sidey, YEAH yeah. I, do yeah you have like an
- 20:23Speaker 2: eighty eight.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And three quarter where if you put these two guys
- 20:25Speaker 1: and just had them stand with their arms out and
- 20:28Speaker 1: it's like a.
- 20:28Speaker 3: City.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Block yeah, NOW again i can only tell YOU what.
- 20:32Speaker 2: I saw and then, you, know look they drafted him
- 20:34Speaker 2: in the, third round so that's not a, throwaway pick
- 20:37Speaker 2: so they obviously see him down the road as being.
- 20:39Speaker 2: His starter now what's interesting is last year They Drafted
- 20:42Speaker 2: cameron Williams And miles hitting later in. The Draft and
- 20:46Speaker 2: i'm just gonna be honest with. You guys, you, know
- 20:48Speaker 2: again doesn't make me right. Them wrong, you know you
- 20:50Speaker 2: know me well enough to KNOW that i don't think.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Like that, you know people can look at tape and evaluate,
- 20:55Speaker 2: It DIFFERENTLY but i did not Really like bell on
- 20:59Speaker 2: tape other than the act that he was. Really big
- 21:01Speaker 2: now that's, a trait by, The Way so i'm not,
- 21:03Speaker 2: knocking that because when a guy six y, nine plus
- 21:06Speaker 2: he's very hard to. Get, around now maybe they they
- 21:10Speaker 2: obviously believe they can. TEACH him i thought at this point,
- 21:14Speaker 2: IN time i thought his upper body and lower body
- 21:16Speaker 2: had a lot of problems being, coordinated together, you know
- 21:19Speaker 2: but because of the arm length and, the wingspan he's
- 21:21Speaker 2: still really hard to. GET around i personally thought that
- 21:26Speaker 2: both the tackles they drafted, Last year Williams, and hinton
- 21:29Speaker 2: were down the road better Prospects. Than Bell the eagles
- 21:33Speaker 2: obviously did. Not, think so, you know, That's THAT like,
- 21:37Speaker 2: i said that doesn't make, me right, you know because
- 21:40Speaker 2: a third, round pick like, we said that is not a.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Throwaway pick that's.
- 21:43Speaker 3: The bottom that's a, start around by, the way that's
- 21:46Speaker 3: correct for an.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Offensive lineman that's a. Start.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Around yep do you See, ANY way i asked a
- 21:51Speaker 1: couple of people and it was like maybe like he's
- 21:54Speaker 1: so tall and big with transitioning to guard you think
- 21:58Speaker 1: be difficult because a me ben and things.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Like, that, now again you know how Tall Is.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Makai becton becton's six.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Seven, PLUS yeah, i mean do they see him as?
- 22:10Speaker 2: A guard. I don't, But again i'm not an offensive,
- 22:13Speaker 2: line guru so don't take my word. For it, You
- 22:16Speaker 2: know i'm told from offensive line COACHES that i know
- 22:19Speaker 2: in the league that they always tell me you know
- 22:21Speaker 2: more about offensive line play than. You THINK but i
- 22:23Speaker 2: never feel comfortable making those kinds of, blanket statements, you
- 22:27Speaker 2: know definitive, like oh he he can't. PLAY guard i
- 22:29Speaker 2: don't want TO say i don't see him, that way
- 22:32Speaker 2: but that doesn't make.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Me. Right right so an offensive, Line coach GREG that
- 22:36Speaker 4: i know you've gotten to know over, last year told
- 22:39Speaker 4: me over the weekend because he had a meeting with him.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Pre draft he said he's Not a, he said he's
- 22:43Speaker 4: not a left at. Our level he's not, athletic enough
- 22:45Speaker 4: fet aren't. Good, enough yeah but he's, super strong high
- 22:49Speaker 4: character kid wants to.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Be.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Coached right that matters to me On what, greg said
- 22:53Speaker 4: because if there's, some limitations some could be some kid cannot.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Be corrected some things you can improve on, hand, usage
- 23:01Speaker 4: balanced there certain things you could work.
- 23:02Speaker 3: With there there might be a chance.
- 23:05Speaker 4: For, him Well the eagle statsa because again he got
- 23:08Speaker 4: drafted in the bottom end of the he got drafted a. Starter,
- 23:11Speaker 4: round yes but. He doesn't look he's not going to play.
- 23:13Speaker 4: This year they'll see if he's going to be ready.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Next year but you know how he, Did say jeff
- 23:18Speaker 4: as they set it back to you after, the draft
- 23:20Speaker 4: had he stayed, in college could have been a first.
- 23:23Speaker 3: ROUND pick i mean.
- 23:24Speaker 2: He was he was picking number, sixty, Eight, guys, adams
- 23:27Speaker 2: right that's a starter round pick for an, offensive lineman.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Right right and maybe he would, have well he played left,
- 23:33Speaker 1: tackle there, so yeah he will play right tackle IN.
- 23:37Speaker 1: The nfl someone DID explain i was actually asking a
- 23:40Speaker 1: personal person about both of them because both tackles were.
- 23:43Speaker 1: BIG dudes, i, mean maw we know was only. Sixty
- 23:45Speaker 1: six he wasn't six, y nine only.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Sixty six but now we know is going to play
- 23:49Speaker 2: right guard For.
- 23:50Speaker 3: The.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Giants, Yeah yeah and actually the PERSON who i spoke
- 23:54Speaker 1: to told me they thought he would be a could
- 23:57Speaker 1: Be A pro bowl right guard if they moved.
- 23:59Speaker 2: HIM there i was told by several people that they
- 24:02Speaker 2: thought he could, play tackle but that if he moved,
- 24:05Speaker 2: him inside that he's, you know a pro bowler with
- 24:07Speaker 2: Like a Hall of fame future as, a guard, you
- 24:10Speaker 2: know just Want to so we'll see now that the
- 24:12Speaker 2: right tackle For. The GIANTS and i always forget how to.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Pronounce it didn't they just Sign iluminor Jermain? A, luminer,
- 24:18Speaker 2: yeah yeah he he could play guard, Right TACKLE so
- 24:21Speaker 2: i think it Will Get illumino they just, signed too.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Didn't, they, yeah yeah he's gonna be.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Around, right yeah so they're gonna they're gonna have to
- 24:28Speaker 1: figure it out which whatever is the best.
- 24:30Speaker 4: He could player. Right tackle but But that bell is
- 24:33Speaker 4: a we'll see. What happens and remember now as we move,
- 24:36Speaker 4: Along Here jeff stouton's no longer, coaching There So chris
- 24:41Speaker 4: cooper is on the clock here For different.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah great that's not. The point and this is no
- 24:46Speaker 2: knock On stout but it's not like he's the only
- 24:48Speaker 2: good old.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Line coach but this is a big deal for the
- 24:51Speaker 3: new offensive, line coach.
- 24:52Speaker 2: No question this is a big Test for cooper because
- 24:56Speaker 2: they've got To turn bell into, a player.
- 24:59Speaker 1: All, right greg Fifth Pick. COLE peyton i do remember
- 25:01Speaker 1: when we went through quarterbacks and you're telling you kind
- 25:03Speaker 1: of liked watching his tape because you never knew what
- 25:06Speaker 1: you were going to see from snap, to snap and
- 25:08Speaker 1: there was some real honest athleticism there that was fun.
- 25:11Speaker 5: To watch but you Also know peyton was was, you
- 25:14Speaker 5: know his tape JUST what, I typed i said that
- 25:17Speaker 5: his tape was intriguing in many ways given, his, size
- 25:20Speaker 5: physicality dual.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Threat profile, you know he's not ready to play in,
- 25:25Speaker 2: the league and obviously he's a fifth, round pick but
- 25:28Speaker 2: you know he's he's a significant work in progress as
- 25:31Speaker 2: a passer from. The, POCKET yeah i actually thought he
- 25:34Speaker 2: threw a good. DEEP ball, i mean, YOU know. I don't.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I don't i think that there's things that he clearly
- 25:42Speaker 2: needs to be taught in terms of how how to
- 25:44Speaker 2: play from. The pocket, you know things like simple things,
- 25:49Speaker 2: like technique THINGS that i think a lot of people take,
- 25:51Speaker 2: for granted what we call, ball staging where he holds
- 25:55Speaker 2: the ball as he. Drops back it was too low
- 25:58Speaker 2: and that can. Be, Fixed, carriage, yeah yeah. Ball carriage
- 26:01Speaker 2: you know that resulted in kind of an. Elongated motion
- 26:05Speaker 2: so his lower body mechanics and his arm action did
- 26:08Speaker 2: not really sync up. Very well that can. Be fixed
- 26:11Speaker 2: he threw with a. Wide base he stepped too far
- 26:15Speaker 2: with his, front foot and that forces his arm to
- 26:17Speaker 2: catch up and limits his ability to drive, the ball because,
- 26:20Speaker 2: don't forget throwing a deep ball is different than driving
- 26:23Speaker 2: the ball. With velocity, deep balls, you know like fades,
- 26:28Speaker 2: and posts are not arm. Strained throws people think they
- 26:31Speaker 2: are because they travel a, certain distance but they're not arm.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Strained throws throwing a deep dig at twenty two yards
- 26:38Speaker 2: with juice is an arm. Strained throw, you know he
- 26:42Speaker 2: can't make those kinds of throws with the way he,
- 26:44Speaker 2: throws now but you know the mechanics can be.
- 26:47Speaker 4: Cleaned, up yeah that's Why the SCOTT that i talked
- 26:50Speaker 4: to who said Talked about taysoon milligoes in. His evaluation,
- 26:54Speaker 4: he said there's no way he'll make it as a.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Pure quarterback he. Just doesn't he's got significant this. Chip,
- 27:00Speaker 4: problems yeah there's too many things to, work, on right
- 27:02Speaker 4: but he's Got greg you told us in our pre
- 27:05Speaker 4: draft run up that the athleticism that was, really, fascinating right.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And he's tough as AS as i was, gonna CURSE
- 27:11Speaker 2: but i. Shouldn't know he's really.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Tough nails he's tough.
- 27:15Speaker 2: As, NAILS yeah i mean that's who. HE is, i mean,
- 27:19Speaker 2: you know he's HE'S probably i would imagine he's just as.
- 27:23Speaker 2: A person that's the way. He is and you know
- 27:26Speaker 2: he's not you wouldn't call, him explosive but he's got
- 27:28Speaker 2: build up speed. And power obviously he can be a
- 27:32Speaker 2: red zone weapon with the design quarterback. Run game he's
- 27:34Speaker 2: got a natural feel as. A runner, i mean, he's
- 27:37Speaker 2: he's he's there's a competitive toughness and swagger to his
- 27:40Speaker 2: game that at the college level transcended.
- 27:43Speaker 1: His limitations did you find it interesting he was drafted
- 27:46Speaker 1: ahead of some more refined, pocket passers yeahs.
- 27:51Speaker 2: OR others, I mean i've learned some things about these
- 27:55Speaker 2: players through the draft process that leads me that that
- 27:59Speaker 2: made it not surprise. To me but if you're just
- 28:01Speaker 2: talking about, the, tape yes.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Got it, all right let's finish.
- 28:05Speaker 3: It off.
- 28:06Speaker 1: We will and by, the way for watching, and listening
- 28:09Speaker 1: we're Only asking greg about the guys that.
- 28:11Speaker 2: He.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Watched there how many guys get drafted like three hundred,
- 28:15Speaker 1: or something and You know greg doesn't watch every single one, Of.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Them, SO yeah i do, my BEST but. I can't,
- 28:20Speaker 2: YOU know i probably have seen two hundred and ten
- 28:23Speaker 2: guys in in like. Major, Detail hey, philly fans game
- 28:27Speaker 2: day is.

- 29:22Speaker 1: and an experience Made for. Philly fans twenty one and
- 29:25Speaker 1: up there. You GO so i REALLY am I think
- 29:27Speaker 1: ADAM and i are really looking forward to what your
- 29:30Speaker 1: tape observations were on the safety Coal was nowski in
- 29:33Speaker 1: the seventh round because if you just look at the
- 29:36Speaker 1: measurable like a six three two, fifteen guy like it
- 29:39Speaker 1: doesn't feel like it jives with what vic fanziotypically wants
- 29:43Speaker 1: out of his safeties who can also play nickel and
- 29:45Speaker 1: run around. A, Lot.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah ranuski's the kind of guy you love watching his
- 29:50Speaker 2: tape and you know what his. Limitations are and he
- 29:53Speaker 2: has one, specific limitation which is his lack. Of range
- 29:56Speaker 2: scares me. To death so that's. His issue he's he's
- 30:00Speaker 2: a really good. Football player, he's aggressive, he's competitive he's
- 30:03Speaker 2: got outstanding size. And length, you know he's a really.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Good tackler he's very controlled in the way in which.
- 30:11Speaker 2: He plays, he's calculated, you know he's actually his, back
- 30:16Speaker 2: pedal his pedal on the back end is actually pretty smooth,
- 30:19Speaker 2: and comfortable and he's. Very balanced he just does not
- 30:23Speaker 2: really have the range that. You'd like SO so i
- 30:26Speaker 2: was thinking to MYSELF when i, watched him AND again
- 30:28Speaker 2: i didn't Know the eagles would. Draft him but with
- 30:30Speaker 2: the with the fact that there's more and more Of
- 30:32Speaker 2: the fanjio school of defense in, THE league i was thinking,
- 30:35Speaker 2: to myself could he play in a foundational quarters, structured
- 30:40Speaker 2: defense because that's he's either that or he's a. Box
- 30:43Speaker 2: safety that he's one or the other depending on, You
- 30:47Speaker 2: know so the question is Could HE and i kept
- 30:49Speaker 2: going back and forth because at, some point safeties do
- 30:52Speaker 2: have to play. With range even if you're playing, you
- 30:54Speaker 2: know it's, with safety they still have to. Have range
- 30:57Speaker 2: and that's why he's a seventh round pick because you
- 30:59Speaker 2: love the way the, kid plays but, you know if
