- 1:18US. Welcome to Love letters from
- 1:21God. Welcome to Love Letters from
- 2:13God. We are reading in the 119th
- 2:18Psalm. And again, as I've mentioned to
- 2:23you before, this Psalm is the longest chapter in the Bible and
- 2:32it is set up in 22 little segments with eight verses in
- 2:38each segment. And it is a good way to start
- 2:43reading your Bible and getting a habit started.
- 2:47You can read one of these little 8 verse segments every day and
- 2:54in 22 days you will have completed the song itself.
- 3:00Now the whole Psalm is talking about the value of the Bible.
- 3:07We call this program love Letters from God and it
- 3:11definitely that's what the Bible is.
- 3:14It's God's love letter. And this Psalm emphasizes over
- 3:20and over again as you look at these little 8 verse segments,
- 3:27how wonderful it is. We're going to start today with
- 3:31verse 113 and we'll go through these 8 segments at a time.
- 3:43I hate the double minded, but I love your law.
- 3:50You are my hiding place and my shield.
- 3:54I hope in your word depart from me, you evil doers, that I may
- 4:01keep the commandments of my God. Uphold me according to your
- 4:07promise that I may live, and let me not put the shame in my hope,
- 4:15and let me not be put to shame in my hope.
- 4:20Hold me up, that I may be safe and have regard for your
- 4:26statutes. Continually you spurn all who go
- 4:33astray from your statutes, for their cunning is in vain.
- 4:38All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross.
- 4:43Therefore I love your testimonies.
- 4:46My flesh trembles for fear of you, for I am afraid of your
- 4:51judgments, the Word of God. A little comment here is
- 4:57wonderful, and it's far superior to anything else life has to
- 5:05offer. Let's continue.
- 5:08I have done what is just and right.
- 5:14Do not leave me to my oppressors.
- 5:19Give Your servant a pledge of good.
- 5:22Let not the insolent oppress me. My eyes long for Your salvation
- 5:30and for fulfillment of Your righteous promise.
- 5:36Deal with Your servant according to Your steadfast love, and
- 5:41teach me your statutes. I am your servant.
- 5:47Give me understanding that I may know your testimonies.
- 5:52It is time for the Lord to act, for your law has been broken.
- 5:59Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above
- 6:03fine gold. Therefore I consider all your
- 6:08precepts to be right. I hate every false way.
- 6:15Another comment. The only truth you're going to
- 6:18find in life that is really truth is in God's love letter.
- 6:27Let's continue on. Your testimonies are wonderful,
- 6:33therefore my soul keeps them. The unfolding of your words
- 6:39gives light. It imparts understanding to the
- 6:45simple. I open my mouth and pant because
- 6:51I long for your commandments. Turn to me and be gracious to
- 6:56me, as in Your way with those who love your name.
- 7:02Keep steady my steps according to Your promise, and let no
- 7:07iniquity get dominion over me. Redeem me from man's oppression,
- 7:14that I may keep Your precepts. Make your face shine upon your
- 7:20servant and teach me your statutes.
- 7:26Mine eyes shed streams of tears because people do not keep your
- 7:33law. It is a shame.
- 7:35Another comment here. It's a shame to see people with
- 7:40the law right in front of them and not doing anything about it.
- 7:45And God and His love that are trying to help in every way He
- 7:52can. And His word is right there, His
- 7:55love letter is right there to help us with what He needs from
- 8:01us. Continuing on, righteous are you
- 8:05our Lord, and right are Your rules.
- 8:11You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness and
- 8:16in all faithfulness. My zeal consumes me because my
- 8:22foes forget Your words. Your promise is well tried, and
- 8:28Your servant loves it. I am small and despised, yet I
- 8:34do not forget Your precepts. Your righteousness is righteous
- 8:40forever and Your law is true. Trouble and anguish have found
- 8:46me out, but your commandments are my delight.
- 8:52Your testimonies are righteous forever.
- 8:56Give me understanding that I may live.
- 9:00Notice the emphasis here on how the understanding for life is
- 9:06coming from this precious love letter.
- 9:11Let's continue with my whole heart.
- 9:14I cry. Answer me, O Lord, I will keep
- 9:18your statutes. I call to you save me, that I
- 9:23may observe your testimonies. I rise before dawn, and I cry
- 9:29for help. I hope in Your words my eyes are
- 9:34awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on
- 9:40Your promise. Hear my voice according to your
- 9:45steadfast love, O Lord, according to your justice.
- 9:50Give me life. They draw near who persecute me
- 9:54with evil purpose. They are far from Your law off,
- 10:00but you are near, O Lord, and all Your commandments are true.
- 10:06Long have I known from your testimonies that you have
- 10:11founded them forever. The Lord's love letter is true,
- 10:20and it's unshakable. The more we pay attention to it,
- 10:26the better off we'll be in our lives.
- 10:29Shall we continue here? Look on my affliction and
- 10:33deliver me, for I did not forget your law.
- 10:40Plead my cause and redeem me. Give me life according to your
- 10:45promise. Salvation is far from the
- 10:48wicked, for they do not seek your statutes.
- 10:52Great is your mercy. O Lord, give me life according
- 10:57to your rules. Many are my persecutors and my
- 11:02adversaries, but I do not swerve from your testimonies.
- 11:08I look at the faithless with disgust because they do not keep
- 11:13your commands. Consider how I love Your
- 11:17precepts Give me life according to Your steadfast love.
- 11:23The turn of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous
- 11:29rules endures forever. Wonderful words testifying to
- 11:39the truth of God's love letter. Continuing, Princess, persecute
- 11:47me without cause, But my heart stands in awe of your words.
- 11:55I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.
- 12:00I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law. 7 * a day.
- 12:09I praise you for your righteous rules.
- 12:13Great peace have those who love your law.
- 12:17Nothing can make them stumble. I hope for your salvation, O
- 12:22Lord, and I do your commandments.
- 12:27My soul keeps your testimonies. I love them exceedingly.
- 12:32I keep your precepts and testimonies, for all my ways are
- 12:39before you. There's one more section and we
- 12:46will finish Psalms 119. But notice how over and over
- 12:52again the strength of God's love letter, His law, is
- 13:00demonstrated. OK, verse 169 Let my cry come
- 13:10before you. O Lord, give me understanding
- 13:14according to your word. Let my plea come before you.
- 13:20Deliver me according to your word.
- 13:24My lips will pour forth praise for you.
- 13:28Teach me your statutes. My tongue will sing of Your
- 13:33word, for all Your commandments are right.
- 13:38Let Your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your
- 13:43precepts. I long for your salvation, O
- 13:47Lord, and Your law is my delight.
- 13:51Let my soul live and praise You, and let Your rules help me.
- 13:59I have gone astray like a lost sheep.
- 14:03Seek your servant for I do not forget your commandments.
- 14:09And so ends Psalms 119. It's taken us 3 or 4 weeks to
- 14:17get through that. But again, you can just take one
- 14:22of those little 8 verse segments.
- 14:25Read 1 every day right after you get up, maybe at breakfast or
- 14:33and it'll get you going during the day to help you appreciate
- 14:37God's love letter. Shall we pray?
- 14:41Father in heaven, we love your law.
- 14:47We love that You have presented that law to us.
- 14:51You gave it to us. You gave us the ability to read
- 14:57it and understand it. We know it's true, help us to
- 15:05spend more time in it and recognize the value it has in
- 15:13making our lives positive as we journey on watch pathway.
- 15:21We love your son who came here also to demonstrate that that
- 15:26law is really true. And we pray this in his name.
- 15:33Amen. And that's it for today.
