Exodus 5
Exodus 5 read aloud, in a fresh direct translation from the Hebrew — plain modern English, nothing added.
Translator's notes:
• Exodus 5:16 — וְחָטָאת עַמֶּךָ (vechata't ammekha): chose "and the fault is your people's". Alternatives: "and you wrong your people", "and your people are made to sin". Why: the form can assign fault to Pharaoh's people or charge Pharaoh with wronging his own; the officers are answering a charge against themselves, so the fault is placed back on the other side.
