- 0:20Speaker 1: Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox we are pushing
- 0:22Speaker 1: the phone number.
- 0:23Speaker 3: That's what we do around here.
- 0:26Speaker 1: We established the rules yesterday. I'm glad we did it.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It was nice meeting all of you talk about anything.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Eight seven seven ninety nine on Foxfield Yates will join
- 0:40Speaker 1: us at about twenty minutes to get us ready for
- 0:42Speaker 1: the NFL Draft, which is coming up in a few weeks.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Ad Dan Burke is going to join us at four o'clock.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We'll get to Tommy Lloyd here in just a second.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Tailor having a bad day, maybe a good day, Yankees winning,
- 0:57Speaker 1: but Tommy Lloyd apparently staying at Arizon. Before we get
- 1:00Speaker 1: to Tommy Lloyd, Taylor, please put it on the pole.
- 1:05Speaker 1: If you are a cop who loves golf, would you
- 1:08Speaker 1: have let Tiger walked?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Just walk?
- 1:13Speaker 1: I edit a d there, you're right. Also put this
- 1:17Speaker 1: on the pole. Taylor in Tiger's world when he says,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with a president. Does that mean
- 1:26Speaker 1: you can't arrest me? Let's get to Tommy Lloyd, Taylor
- 1:33Speaker 1: having a tough day. Tommy Lloyd re signs with Arizona.
- 1:36Speaker 1: It's a five year deal. How you feeling today, Taylor?
- 1:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm disappointed. I'm hurt, a bit blindsided. I think
- 1:43Speaker 5: North Carolina was by this because I don't think they
- 1:45Speaker 5: thought this was going to conclude until Arizona got eliminated
- 1:51Speaker 5: from the tournament or Arizona won the title. But also
- 1:56Speaker 5: talking to people at Carolina, they did feel like this
- 1:58Speaker 5: was always going to be an uphill battle where it
- 2:01Speaker 5: wasn't gonna come down to a finance thing, because there
- 2:04Speaker 5: really isn't too much precedent for a coach making the
- 2:08Speaker 5: Final four with a power school and then leaving said
- 2:12Speaker 5: power school for another school and not just taking an
- 2:15Speaker 5: NBA job. So yeah, I'm a little hurt. I guess
- 2:20Speaker 5: it's just Billy Donovan come on down now, you hear that?
- 2:22Speaker 3: S dude?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yes, called people at North Carolina.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Wow, things got a reporter.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Yeah, things don't happen in Chapel Hill without me knowing.
- 2:29Speaker 3: It's the only thing he cares about.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, he wouldn't call any other city for any other
- 2:34Speaker 1: story other than Chapel Hill for who's going to be
- 2:37Speaker 1: the next head coach at the University of North Carolina.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Yeah, he normally doesn't check in with me on a
- 2:41Speaker 6: whole lap before the show. But right before the show
- 2:43Speaker 6: started today you could see where his head was because
- 2:45Speaker 6: Taylor goes is he and I'm like, yeah, he goes
- 2:48Speaker 6: is Billy Donovan known as a good offensive coach, And
- 2:51Speaker 6: I was like, oh, there he goes.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Oh he's starting to poke around about Billy. Huh. That
- 2:56Speaker 1: was the floor, right, Tommy Lloyd was the ceiling.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Tommy Tommy was by far North Carolina's top choice. If
- 3:04Speaker 5: Purdue beats Arizona in the Elite eight, I think Tommy
- 3:08Speaker 5: Lloyd is in Chapel Hill today. Really, he won to
- 3:11Speaker 5: such an extent that he got all the leverage that
- 3:15Speaker 5: he needed at Arizona, where when we were talking about
- 3:19Speaker 5: this early in the week where he wouldn't deny anything
- 3:21Speaker 5: in his press conferences, wasn't gonna come down to money.
- 3:24Speaker 5: It was just going to come down to could he
- 3:26Speaker 5: get the power that he wanted at Arizona and you're
- 3:30Speaker 5: looking at some of the reports from Matt Norlander at
- 3:33Speaker 5: CBS Sports. He'll no longer have to report to his
- 3:37Speaker 5: athletic director and will instead report to the president of
- 3:40Speaker 5: the school. The relationship with the AD had gotten that
- 3:44Speaker 5: bad and now you kind of just cut out the
- 3:45Speaker 5: middleman there. Yes, wow, she's actually a woman, So she
- 3:48Speaker 5: was the middle woman.
- 3:49Speaker 6: So he's up for another job and doesn't get along
- 3:53Speaker 6: with his current AD and his big thing to stay
- 3:56Speaker 6: put is get me away from that woman.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yes, yes, and good save Taylor kick saving abute.
- 4:03Speaker 5: Also adding to the relationship. So there was reports that
- 4:09Speaker 5: she would promise more things to Tommy Lloyd than Tommy
- 4:12Speaker 5: Lloyd would actually get and that's what kind of caused
- 4:15Speaker 5: the friction because Arizona was in kind of like cost
- 4:18Speaker 5: saving mode and Tommy Lloyd was like, we need to
- 4:21Speaker 5: spend to compete with other schools, and that's where kind
- 4:24Speaker 5: of their problems originated. The other problem, I was told
- 4:28Speaker 5: she just put her son on the team without telling anybody, Well,
- 4:31Speaker 5: what's wrong with that?
- 4:34Speaker 4: Ten minutes as long as he's on.
- 4:35Speaker 3: The team, right, just a roster spot, I mean, come on, I.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Mean, isn't Bryce James On the team. I mean, that's
- 4:41Speaker 6: what happens. Yeah, sons can just be on the team, right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I'm certain if Tommy Lloyd had a kid who wasn't
- 4:47Speaker 1: good enough to play at Arizona, he'd have a spot
- 4:49Speaker 1: on the team, you know.
- 4:51Speaker 5: And I think the shocking part of what's happening with
- 4:54Speaker 5: Tommy Lloyd again from Matt Norlander's report, Matt Norland sources
- 5:00Speaker 5: are saying U and C offered Tommy Lloyd a top
- 5:03Speaker 5: two contract in college basketball. Lloyd took less to stay
- 5:08Speaker 5: at Arizona. It's just crazy.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Right right. He just wanted direct access to the president.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I mean, that's it. That's all the guy wanted. And
- 5:17Speaker 1: he didn't want North Carolina. Did he stay somewhere. I
- 5:21Speaker 1: think it was mikey A who texted this that Steve
- 5:23Speaker 1: Kerr is his Michael Jordan. All right, we have that sound,
- 5:27Speaker 1: so let's play. This is Tommy Lloyd talking about and
- 5:30Speaker 1: I don't like Tommy Lloyd anymore. That is disrespectful to
- 5:33Speaker 1: the greatest to ever live.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Here is Tommy Lloyd talking about his new contract.
- 5:37Speaker 7: North Carolina is an amazing place. I mean it's a
- 5:40Speaker 7: it's a one of one and you know, It's an
- 5:43Speaker 7: honor to even be, you know, considered for that job.
- 5:46Speaker 7: And North Carolina's a first class organization and I appreciate
- 5:50Speaker 7: them for the way they've handled this. You know, Michael Jordan,
- 5:54Speaker 7: the phone call never did happen. So with that the rest,
- 5:57Speaker 7: but I mean, come on, I mean we all idolize,
- 6:00Speaker 7: you know, mj You know, with that being said, though,
- 6:03Speaker 7: I made a decision that you know, you know, my
- 6:06Speaker 7: Michael Jordan's Steve Kerr And I'm proud to be an Aarson,
- 6:10Speaker 7: a wildcat.
- 6:12Speaker 6: Who has more rings as a coach and player. Who
- 6:16Speaker 6: has more rings Steve Kerr or Michael Jordan.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Well do you have to add in the NASCAR wins too?
- 6:21Speaker 5: Now for Michael Jordan, Yes, you do.
- 6:23Speaker 3: You have to add him in what.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Stud One thing is clear today, Yeah, the tea And
- 6:28Speaker 5: Tommy Lloyd does not stand for Tario.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Nope, it stands for Tucson.
- 6:35Speaker 6: I was gonna say, Taylor that you didn't want Tommy
- 6:39Speaker 6: Lloyd anyway, you don't want a head coach he did
- 6:41Speaker 6: first names, and then I realized that Billy Donovan is
- 6:44Speaker 6: pretty much two first names as well.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yes, Taylor, you disappointed that Michael Jordan did not reach
- 6:49Speaker 1: out to Tommy Lloyd, knowing how important this is to you,
- 6:52Speaker 1: to the university, how important that basketball program is. He
- 6:56Speaker 1: went to Belichick's first football game, he couldn't pick up
- 6:58Speaker 1: a phone and call Tommy Lloyd.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I mean, come on, yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 5: So the Michael Jordan thing is, remember with Virginia Tech football,
- 7:06Speaker 5: it became like a running joke that somebody saw Metallica
- 7:10Speaker 5: performing and Metallica was going to be at Lane Stadium
- 7:13Speaker 5: for a Virginia Tech football game to perform. Enter Sandman.
- 7:17Speaker 5: That's where Michael Jordan has kind of fallen at North Carolina.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Anytime North Carolina people think they need a favor, the
- 7:24Speaker 5: first rumor is that Michael Jordan's involved. And Michael Jordan
- 7:28Speaker 5: has kind of proven Hey, I'm gonna kind of let
- 7:30Speaker 5: you guys kind of run this program however you guys want.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Don't ask me for money, don't ask me for much help.
- 7:35Speaker 5: I'm not helping.
- 7:36Speaker 6: Wouldn't in theory Michael Jordan want the bulls head coach
- 7:41Speaker 6: to be the UNC coach. Maybe so maybe he's holding
- 7:43Speaker 6: out for Billy Donovan. He doesn't want Tommy Lloyd, right, I.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Don't want to call that guy.
- 7:48Speaker 1: If I call that guy, he's going to take the job,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and I don't want that guy taking the job.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I want Billy Donovan.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Yes, I do want to soothe Taylor a little bit
- 7:55Speaker 6: and maybe some UNC fans if if this is the
- 7:58Speaker 6: way they're going, right, because it feels like that's where
- 8:00Speaker 6: Billy wants to go based on reports right Taylor, it's
- 8:04Speaker 6: reportedly struggles between him and the front office over in Chicago,
- 8:08Speaker 6: and that he has sort of thrown his name into
- 8:11Speaker 6: the interest pile in terms of UNC.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Correct correct.
- 8:13Speaker 6: All right, So, in reading what I've seen from UNC
- 8:18Speaker 6: people as being concerns about Billy Donvan hasn't coached in
- 8:21Speaker 6: college in over a decade, you know, doesn't know the
- 8:24Speaker 6: way the current system sixty years old, which to me,
- 8:28Speaker 6: I don't think that's a big deal, and that he
- 8:30Speaker 6: hasn't won a whole heck of a lot with Chicago.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Well, let's be honest with the Bulls.
- 8:34Speaker 6: If it wasn't for Michael Jordan, that would be one
- 8:36Speaker 6: of the losingest franchises of all time because of their
- 8:39Speaker 6: their front office has always been a problem, and you
- 8:41Speaker 6: look at the people that they've brought in since Billy's
- 8:43Speaker 6: been there, and it's just been.
- 8:44Speaker 1: A hodgepodge and of course Steve Kerr.
- 8:49Speaker 6: But what I see in Billy, and i've known I
- 8:51Speaker 6: covered him in college, I've seen a lot of transformation
- 8:55Speaker 6: in Billy, like personally as a human being, but also
- 8:58Speaker 6: as a head coach, and he's learned a lot just
- 9:00Speaker 6: from his experiences as a head coach. And what I
- 9:03Speaker 6: see in Billy is a guy who desperately wants to
- 9:06Speaker 6: get back into relevance. Like he doesn't like being just
- 9:11Speaker 6: middle of the pack and nobody's talking to him and
- 9:13Speaker 6: people are like, oh, yeah, he's still the coach of
- 9:15Speaker 6: the Chicago Bulls. He has doesn't love the fact that
- 9:17Speaker 6: he hasn't accomplished much of anything in the NBA and
- 9:21Speaker 6: he's kind of stuck there. Like I don't see him
- 9:24Speaker 6: as thought of widely in the NBA as his great
- 9:26Speaker 6: head coach that if he's available, I'm gonna go get him.
- 9:29Speaker 1: He won't get one of the big time NBA jobs,
- 9:32Speaker 1: but he does have a chance still after winning back
- 9:34Speaker 1: to back national championships at the University of Florida, still
- 9:37Speaker 1: has a chance to land one of the big time
- 9:39Speaker 1: gigs in college basketball.
- 9:40Speaker 6: And I think he'd be motivated not just to land it,
- 9:43Speaker 6: but then to succeed when he's there, follow He's already
- 9:46Speaker 6: a Hall of Famer, yes, right, but to follow that
- 9:48Speaker 6: up with success at UNC and Taylor. This is the
- 9:51Speaker 6: best thing for you to know about Billy. Forget about
- 9:54Speaker 6: his offensive ex's and o's, forget about his defensive defensive
- 9:57Speaker 6: ex'es and o's.
- 9:58Speaker 4: He is a hustler, that man.
- 10:00Speaker 6: It doesn't matter if it's you're throwing money at players,
- 10:03Speaker 6: or it doesn't matter if you're just trying to convince
- 10:05Speaker 6: the players or sway the players. He will sell the
- 10:09Speaker 6: same way Stu sold stocks to Murray Bons.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It was bonds unis municipal tax free bonds to Murray.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I would just rip out a page of the phone
- 10:19Speaker 1: West Palm Beach, Ocean Drive and just anyone named Murray
- 10:22Speaker 1: first our last name, they were getting a call from me,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and chances are they were buying bonds.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Great business model.
- 10:31Speaker 1: So you think Billy Donovan is viewing this as a
- 10:33Speaker 1: chance to regain some sort of relevance because I'm with
- 10:36Speaker 1: you them.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Yeah, Because if you were to think of Billy, yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 6: he won the back to back championships in Florida, but like,
- 10:41Speaker 6: the guy's a Hall of Fame head coach, Like he's
- 10:43Speaker 6: got a lot to his resume, and I think it's
- 10:46Speaker 6: just kind of fizzling out.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Is not really something he looks forward to.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought this part of it up because
- 10:50Speaker 1: it's a big part of being a head coach, especially
- 10:53Speaker 1: at the college level. What he's trying to tell you,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Taylor is he is a master salesman, and he is
- 10:57Speaker 1: like he is like Calipari, he is like Rick Patito.
- 11:01Speaker 1: If that guy walks into a living room, there's a
- 11:03Speaker 1: good chance he's walking out with your son for the
- 11:06Speaker 1: next four years.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I'm dangerous actually in today's climate.
- 11:11Speaker 3: To play basketball. Okay.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Yeah, so there's still a name ahead of Billy Donovan
- 11:18Speaker 5: in terms of the Tears that North Carolina is looking
- 11:22Speaker 5: at their head coaching search. It's Dusty May, who, as
- 11:25Speaker 5: you guys also know, is still coaching in the Final
- 11:28Speaker 5: Four and again, not much precedent of a coach leaving
- 11:32Speaker 5: a Final four Power four school to go to another school.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yes, but Taylor, I'm afraid the M and May stands
- 11:39Speaker 1: for Michigan.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Yeah. Sorry, So, while I'm disappointed today, the reason why
- 11:48Speaker 5: I'm not going to Panic. Yet glass half empty UNC
- 11:52Speaker 5: has been publicly denied by three of its top four candidates.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Brat Stevens Iowa states tj Otzelberger Arizona's Tom It feels
- 12:01Speaker 5: inevitable at this point that you're going to also get
- 12:03Speaker 5: to know.
- 12:03Speaker 4: From the half empty huh.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes, glass half full.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Huh.
- 12:08Speaker 5: You and c could hire just about any of the
- 12:10Speaker 5: top fifty coaches in college basketball and it's still going
- 12:12Speaker 5: to be an upgrade over Hubert.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yeah, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. That is
- 12:20Speaker 1: eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. It is a
- 12:22Speaker 1: strange time where a guy like Tommy Lloyd does not
- 12:24Speaker 1: want the North Carolina job. That's like I know loud
- 12:27Speaker 1: Olsen coach there at Arizona for a long time and
- 12:30Speaker 1: never would have left even if he was offered the
- 12:32Speaker 1: Carolina job. But I guess it's just a different time
- 12:35Speaker 1: in college sports. Is you were a guy who is
- 12:37Speaker 1: the Arizona head coach. And I said this yesterday. It
- 12:40Speaker 1: really gets down to the person and how important the
- 12:43Speaker 1: history of the game is to that. Lane Kiffin left
- 12:46Speaker 1: to go to LSU because being the LSU head coach.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Whether you agree with it or not meant a lot
- 12:52Speaker 1: to Lane Kiffen. It would have had to mean a
- 12:54Speaker 1: lot to Tommy Lloyd. Somewhere along the line. He would
- 12:58Speaker 1: have had to say to himself, Hey, I would love
- 13:01Speaker 1: to be the head coach at a place like.
- 13:03Speaker 3: The University of North Carolina.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And I guess that day has kind of come and
- 13:08Speaker 1: gone because guys are choosing Arizona over Carolina unless, in
- 13:12Speaker 1: less that job means something to them because they care
- 13:16Speaker 1: about the history of the game.
- 13:17Speaker 6: Yeah, one hundred percent right, except for that comparison with
- 13:20Speaker 6: Lane Kiffin. That dude a different animal. He had already
- 13:23Speaker 6: been to the pros, he'd already gotten a better job.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Now he was an old Miss.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Which I wouldn't call ole Miss football in Arizona basketball
- 13:30Speaker 6: on par I think Arizona basketball has more like national
- 13:32Speaker 6: championship potential than ole Miss football. But one hundred percent
- 13:35Speaker 6: agree with you, and like, it's just where we are today. Like, yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 6: you said it well there when you talked about what
- 13:41Speaker 6: it means to that person. But I think if you
- 13:43Speaker 6: just take a snapshot of the current climate and say, oh,
- 13:46Speaker 6: it doesn't matter if my school is unc or if
- 13:49Speaker 6: my uniform is super pretty, I can definitely pay and
- 13:51Speaker 6: get whatever players I want in my school. And if
- 13:54Speaker 6: it's sort of you know the devil, you know verse
- 13:56Speaker 6: the devil you don't know situation, Yeah, I think that
- 13:59Speaker 6: was going into this process what.
- 14:01Speaker 4: I was worried about for Taylor, right, his.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Shooting high for all these coaches, A couple of them
- 14:05Speaker 6: still playing, which is a bad sign, and a couple
- 14:08Speaker 6: of them a little outdated, which is, you know, another
- 14:10Speaker 6: bad sign. But no matter who you're going to target,
- 14:13Speaker 6: is it necessarily going to be that appealing?
- 14:15Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Uh, Taylor put it on the poll to Steve Kerr.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Exists because of Michael Jordan.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 14:24Speaker 2: Live whekdcent three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific on Fox
- 14:28Speaker 2: Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I've now seen more of Shep Messing than I ever.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Cared to see.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I just turned them on to Shep Messing ad Dan
- 14:40Speaker 1: and they are mystified by his hair.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, listen, it's been quite a week here.
- 14:47Speaker 8: I saw Field the Eights I believe was on earlier
- 14:49Speaker 8: this week. Yeah, Shep Messing, I mean, we're trying to
- 14:51Speaker 8: get all the story. How about Clay was ineagle by
- 14:53Speaker 8: the way last week igle absolute pros pro and then
- 14:56Speaker 8: he namels a yukon call because there was point four
- 14:58Speaker 8: seconds left, you couldn't say it's over, he says, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 8: with plite four seconds left, but then you god still
- 15:04Speaker 8: with the march magic.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I have some sound I want to play for you.
- 15:08Speaker 1: But before I get to that sound, Taylor came in today,
- 15:13Speaker 1: strutting in with confidence, like he was informing us of
- 15:16Speaker 1: something we didn't know, and he simply blurted out, goodwill hunting.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I'm sorry, my cousin, Vinny, great movie.
- 15:26Speaker 8: I thought you were to say. Taylor was strutting in
- 15:28Speaker 8: because the New York Yankees right now on I mean,
- 15:30Speaker 8: the team has been unbelievable. He three uns allowed their
- 15:33Speaker 8: first five games and Taylor up six to two opening day.
- 15:35Speaker 8: But no, he's more excited about Joe Peshy and the
- 15:38Speaker 8: fact that Tomay won an Oscar for that movie. Part
- 15:41Speaker 8: of Oscar, Lord Jack Palnce announced the winner. Palnce won
- 15:44Speaker 8: for City Slickers, of course, famously did the one on
- 15:46Speaker 8: push ups. People thought he screwed up.
- 15:48Speaker 3: He said, there's no way urssa.
- 15:49Speaker 8: Tomy won Best wording actress Jack Punce can't read properly,
- 15:52Speaker 8: and instead she's an Academy Award winner. I love Mersu Tomato,
- 15:54Speaker 8: by the way, got to see all of her and
- 15:56Speaker 8: the Wrestler, for which he was OSCAR nominated. You should
- 15:58Speaker 8: have won an Oscar for that movie.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Pretty much the most shocking Supporting Actress Award winner of
- 16:02Speaker 6: all time though, right, No question is I couldn't.
- 16:05Speaker 8: Even name me a second one like an other one
- 16:07Speaker 8: more shocking, like no, that's it like me, it's just
- 16:10Speaker 8: straight one for Network. That was back in nineteen seventy six.
- 16:13Speaker 8: She was in that movie five minutes and forty seconds.
- 16:15Speaker 8: That's the shortest appearance ever for an OSCAR winner. But
- 16:18Speaker 8: most shocking has got to be our girl, Risa til
- 16:21Speaker 8: May Taylor, you just doubled across this two uts. I'm
- 16:24Speaker 8: sorry you.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Yeah, so add I'm checking off a movie list right now.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I've never really grew up watching movies, and since there's
- 16:33Speaker 5: a little bit of downtime in sports, I've been just
- 16:37Speaker 5: going one by one. So I watched Field of Dreams
- 16:39Speaker 5: for the first time. I watched my cousin Vinnie for
- 16:41Speaker 5: the first time. My only critique for my cousin Vinnie,
- 16:45Speaker 5: you know, twenty five plus years later. Peh, she's like
- 16:49Speaker 5: pretending to be thirty five in this movie. He's got
- 16:51Speaker 5: a piece on his head. He looks at least fifty five.
- 16:57Speaker 8: He definitely outkicked his coverage with Risa til Make because
- 16:59Speaker 8: she looks like twenty fix. And you're right, this guy
- 17:01Speaker 8: is like mid forties, maybe pushing fifty thirty five. Definitely
- 17:04Speaker 8: a reach, but you stick out like a sore thumber
- 17:06Speaker 8: on here. Oh yeah, it is is unbelievable. In that movie.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You should watch Goodwill Hunting.
- 17:13Speaker 4: I mean it's on the list and we haven't seen
- 17:16Speaker 4: that one either.
- 17:16Speaker 2: No.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Wow, well that's.
- 17:18Speaker 5: That's more of a Boston thing. Added any other movies
- 17:20Speaker 5: I should put on this must sy movie list.
- 17:23Speaker 8: I want to talk more about good Will Hunting now
- 17:24Speaker 8: because I remember I saw it when it first came out,
- 17:26Speaker 8: and I enjoyed it, and like most people, when things
- 17:28Speaker 8: become more popular than the backlash shit, so I loved it.
- 17:30Speaker 8: And then they won the Oscars.
- 17:31Speaker 3: I got screw.
- 17:32Speaker 8: It's not that good Boston way, blah blah blah. I
- 17:34Speaker 8: watched it again last year. It's great. Goodwill Hunting holds
- 17:36Speaker 8: up man. Robert Williams is unbelievable in that movie. Affleck
- 17:39Speaker 8: and Damon say what you will for their lives off
- 17:41Speaker 8: the air with those guys. Phenomenal movie, great performances. Deserve
- 17:44Speaker 8: the Oscar get around a good Will hunting let's go.
- 17:47Speaker 6: Every time somebody shoots a hookshot in the NBA, I
- 17:49Speaker 6: think of Mini driver hook hook.
- 17:51Speaker 3: From that movie. It's a great movie.
- 17:54Speaker 9: Uh.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Do you want to add any more movies to the list?
- 17:57Speaker 1: Movies from the eighties? I guess say you just saw
- 17:59Speaker 1: Fielded Dreams. Let's talk more about Field of Dreams. Did
- 18:01Speaker 1: you get a moostional? Tell that final scene? Hey dad,
- 18:03Speaker 1: do you want to have a catch?
- 18:04Speaker 3: Oh?
- 18:04Speaker 5: God, yeah, it was a great movie. I think for
- 18:07Speaker 5: me when I have a son. If I have a son,
- 18:10Speaker 5: then the movie is gonna hit a little bit differently
- 18:12Speaker 5: because my dad didn't grow up wanting me to play
- 18:15Speaker 5: baseball or or anything like that.
- 18:17Speaker 3: We're watching movies or socker your dad wants you to
- 18:19Speaker 3: do And.
- 18:20Speaker 5: If you could, you could almost pick any movie. And
- 18:22Speaker 5: there's a good chance I haven't seen it. Like yesterday
- 18:25Speaker 5: we were talking about what's the most rewatchable movie of
- 18:27Speaker 5: all time? I think Mikey threw out Shawshank, redemption, wow
- 18:32Speaker 5: and pulpe fiction. I haven't seen either of those. Quick
- 18:35Speaker 5: answer from you, ad Man?
- 18:36Speaker 4: What was the answer?
- 18:37Speaker 3: Good Fellows?
- 18:38Speaker 8: There were good Fellas? I think it's the most rewatching. Taylor.
- 18:40Speaker 8: Please tell me you've seen good Fellas?
- 18:42Speaker 5: No, I haven't.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Oh this weekend?
- 18:46Speaker 8: Yes, yes, you call yourself an you walk around? You
- 18:50Speaker 8: haven't seen good Fellas before? Not only the waption we
- 18:53Speaker 8: ever arguably well, the funniest movie is ever you're talking about.
- 18:56Speaker 8: You suck Joe Peshi and my cousin Vinny before seeing
- 18:58Speaker 8: Joe Peschi win an oscar for good Fellas. That's like
- 19:00Speaker 8: seeing Joe Peshi in home alone before saying I gotta
- 19:03Speaker 8: run a good fellow.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Taylor put it on the poll. Can you be a
- 19:07Speaker 1: man if you haven't seen good Fellows?
- 19:13Speaker 8: I went that by the way that feel the Dreams Home.
- 19:16Speaker 8: I went to the Field Dreams game a few years ago.
- 19:18Speaker 8: As always, when it comes to life, imitating are incredibly small,
- 19:21Speaker 8: Like I don't know how they fit in that house.
- 19:23Speaker 8: Amy Madigan screaming at Kevin Coster. There's no room in
- 19:25Speaker 8: the actual house in Iowa. But me and Kevin Malar
- 19:28Speaker 8: got to reenact that scene to rap me and my
- 19:30Speaker 8: dad having a catch. I had a catch with Kevin Malar.
- 19:33Speaker 8: Not quite the same thing, but still very cool.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Experience is the best he really is, uh An, I
- 19:38Speaker 1: have three sounds for you courtesy two courtesy of Taylor,
- 19:42Speaker 1: and one of Christopher Maddog WESA. Let's start with Taylor though.
- 19:46Speaker 1: This is Taylor's idea to say baseball. He wants to uh.
- 19:49Speaker 1: He wants some Chris Berman to be injected into Major
- 19:52Speaker 1: League baseball. Here is Taylor bring you a baseball update
- 19:56Speaker 1: as Chris Berman.
- 19:57Speaker 5: First, I need, I need my music.
- 20:00Speaker 4: It's gonna be him. It's gonna be him as Chris Burper.
- 20:02Speaker 5: We go out to Cincinnati to Great American Ballpark, or
- 20:06Speaker 5: as I like to call it, Late American Ballpark because
- 20:09Speaker 5: we're still waiting for the Reds offense to show up.
- 20:13Speaker 5: On the bump. For Boston, it was Garrett Crow, say
- 20:17Speaker 5: can you see he throws six clas inning in his
- 20:21Speaker 5: season debut, leading the way for the Socks. At the plate,
- 20:24Speaker 5: it was Roman Carmelo Anthony for three hits and Jaron Duran,
- 20:31Speaker 5: Duran who was hungry like a wolf for this season
- 20:33Speaker 5: to get started, said forget your state farm, forget your
- 20:37Speaker 5: all steak. I've got your insurance right here, adding that
- 20:40Speaker 5: third run for good measure in the ninth, then in
- 20:44Speaker 5: for the save. It was a raaldish chap Man. I
- 20:47Speaker 5: feel like a woman if he felt much like my
- 20:50Speaker 5: woman watching sports with me. The only thing he wanted
- 20:53Speaker 5: was for that game to end. Red SOX three Red zero.
- 20:59Speaker 8: I love at you on here. Loved the Shania Twain reference.
- 21:02Speaker 8: That was fantastic, good Canadian girl. When people ask me,
- 21:05Speaker 8: you know highlights of my career, I tell them about
- 21:07Speaker 8: the top of the list. It's a twenty thirteen world series.
- 21:09Speaker 8: They go covering the worst. Says no, no, no. I got
- 21:11Speaker 8: to ride in the same car as Chris Berman. Wow,
- 21:14Speaker 8: Boomer is basically there, just like as you know, just
- 21:16Speaker 8: an honorary figure of ESPN. But we're in the car together,
- 21:19Speaker 8: and Mike McQuade, our boss, was like, listen, don't I said,
- 21:21Speaker 8: I it's just just I go. He said, I know
- 21:23Speaker 8: you you're gonna be pepper them with questions, leave alone
- 21:25Speaker 8: as ten am. But I couldn't help myself right out
- 21:27Speaker 8: of the gate. My god, boom, let's talk and I said,
- 21:28Speaker 8: of all the great nicknames, you've said, all time best.
- 21:30Speaker 8: He's like, I go Ron, cough please, tug Nut, Ron Hugnut,
- 21:35Speaker 8: the backup goltern and you said cough please Boomers like
- 21:38Speaker 8: it was before, just yes, a different times. But one
- 21:43Speaker 8: of the the great things about Chris because we started
- 21:45Speaker 8: talking baseball. What's so great about Boomer is much like
- 21:47Speaker 8: if you read Ernest Hemingway's writing or David Mammott, they
- 21:50Speaker 8: removed the words right, it's just so terse. So that's
- 21:52Speaker 8: how Boomer talks. So what he said to me was
- 21:55Speaker 8: this was his way of connecting with me about being
- 21:57Speaker 8: a baseball guy. He goes, people look at me football bashball,
- 22:02Speaker 8: meaning people think I'm just a football guy. But after
- 22:05Speaker 8: did you love faceball? People look at me football.
- 22:08Speaker 3: He talks like, yeah, like a light bulllop so baseball.
- 22:14Speaker 8: And his dream was to be the play by playboys
- 22:17Speaker 8: of the San Francisco Giants. I said you wanted to
- 22:19Speaker 8: be John Miller. He said yeah, it said you're Chris Berman,
- 22:21Speaker 8: like arguably be the greatest sports gets whoever live, and
- 22:23Speaker 8: deep in his heart he still wishes he was like
- 22:26Speaker 8: calling Robbie Ray on the mound or like Logan Webb
- 22:28Speaker 8: calling Giants games all these years later.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Chris Berman absolute beauty. You will love this because you
- 22:34Speaker 1: and I are kind of the same. When he comes
- 22:35Speaker 1: to this. Tailor has done nothing but asked me to
- 22:38Speaker 1: get Chris Berman on the show to critique that.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Since he did it, yes, I'll say this.
- 22:44Speaker 8: I don't know how he feels about the impressions. We
- 22:46Speaker 8: had him on our podcast and Jean scripted Virginibers a
- 22:48Speaker 8: few months ago. He's available and he's willing to do it,
- 22:51Speaker 8: and he's like he loves hockey. If you're talking whalers,
- 22:54Speaker 8: and he's what's so good about Boomer is he'll he'll
- 22:56Speaker 8: make that connection. So like whatever it might be, he
- 22:58Speaker 8: knows what you're into sale do it. So with me,
- 23:00Speaker 8: it's this constant Canadian talk cflc.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Like I just I'll just start talking to the boom.
- 23:05Speaker 8: I don't even follow it. How are the elks looking?
- 23:08Speaker 8: I go, I have no idea. I haven't follot the CFL.
- 23:10Speaker 8: I didn't follow what I was in Canada. I was
- 23:11Speaker 8: an NFL you kidding.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Everyone knows the NFL is better than the CFL.
- 23:14Speaker 8: It was an Eagles fan.
- 23:16Speaker 4: He cares what about him nothing.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Yes, that's it. Yes, we will get back to Taylor
- 23:27Speaker 3: in just a second.
- 23:28Speaker 1: But you love mad Dog the way I love mad Dog,
- 23:30Speaker 1: Christopher mad Dog?
- 23:31Speaker 3: Were you so.
- 23:32Speaker 8: Please or say things to please?
- 23:33Speaker 5: Tell me?
- 23:33Speaker 8: It's this Lincoln clip?
- 23:35Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:35Speaker 3: Have you heard it?
- 23:35Speaker 5: Oh?
- 23:36Speaker 3: My god, it is and I want to hear it again.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I don't care how many well.
- 23:39Speaker 8: I think I've listened it three times. I keep laughing
- 23:41Speaker 8: harder each time.
- 23:41Speaker 3: It was the entire talk the MLB network news from yesterday, like, have.
- 23:44Speaker 8: You heard this Lincoln clip? It is unbelievable?
- 23:47Speaker 3: Yes, uh, play it.
- 23:49Speaker 9: Grant of course, the Union general, Lincoln's favorite general and
- 23:53Speaker 9: his best usual alcoholic.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Can't that crazy?
- 23:56Speaker 9: And then of course the president of for eight years
- 23:58Speaker 9: and try to run again the third im and Garth
- 24:00Speaker 9: Field beat him.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 24:02Speaker 9: He wrote a you know, he did the Q and
- 24:04Speaker 9: A with the author who wrote the Grant biography. And
- 24:09Speaker 9: this is a Chris Christie recommendation this book, by the way,
- 24:11Speaker 9: so you hithim the credit. But he wrote the He asked,
- 24:15Speaker 9: this is something I did not realize. Lincoln in eighteen
- 24:21Speaker 9: sixty five, in April, when he went to the Ford
- 24:24Speaker 9: Theater that night to see the play. He invited the
- 24:28Speaker 9: Grants to go with him, Ulysses and his wife. I
- 24:32Speaker 9: think her name is Julia, he asked the Grants, begged them.
- 24:37Speaker 9: You know, the war was over a potomax. I think
- 24:41Speaker 9: I pronounced it right, opomatics, that's correct.
- 24:44Speaker 5: You know happened, you know a couple of weeks before
- 24:46Speaker 5: that was Robert E.
- 24:46Speaker 9: Lee, and he asked Lee, please, I'm going to the
- 24:50Speaker 9: theater tonight. It was good Friday, me and missus Lincoln,
- 24:53Speaker 9: could you please join us? And Grant wanted to go
- 24:56Speaker 9: in the worst way. His wife couldn't deal with Mary.
- 25:01Speaker 9: Lincoln wanted nothing to do with her. You listens, I
- 25:06Speaker 9: can't do this. I can't put up with her, for.
- 25:07Speaker 8: She's gonna drive me nuts.
- 25:09Speaker 9: So she refused to go. So Grant said, miss President,
- 25:13Speaker 9: I I can't go. If Grant went, he was going
- 25:18Speaker 9: to bring his military entourage.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Meaning protection, meaning there's no way.
- 25:24Speaker 9: John Wilkes Booth gets into that forward titty with a gun.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Lincoln's alive.
- 25:32Speaker 3: To this day.
- 25:32Speaker 8: Unbelievable, Mike Drop, There's so much to love about that,
- 25:35Speaker 8: Like if you love bad dog, it means to gods
- 25:37Speaker 8: that was the mad Dog Bingo card first of all,
- 25:40Speaker 8: just an utlandish observation and character assassination.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Huge alcoholic.
- 25:44Speaker 8: That that's where he describes huge alcoholic, Like he drank them, right,
- 25:49Speaker 8: he drank with them? Yes, a completely unnecessary drop of
- 25:53Speaker 8: Chris Christie recommended it like that. Just doesn't believe. Just
- 25:56Speaker 8: a random name.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Drop, Okay, unnecessary butt necessary? I mean to be yes,
- 26:00Speaker 3: if that's possible, right.
- 26:02Speaker 8: Butchering of the English language pomtext, whatever the hell's called.
- 26:05Speaker 8: Don't care about that. And my favorite part of it
- 26:08Speaker 8: is the made up conversations, specifically that Ulysses wanted to
- 26:12Speaker 8: go in the worst way possible. Is that accurate? Like
- 26:15Speaker 8: the hell does he know? It's just dying to go
- 26:18Speaker 8: to form theater Watts play.
- 26:21Speaker 6: And he gave you a quick recreation of the whole thing, Ulysses,
- 26:25Speaker 6: I can't do this like so dramatic.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yes, missus Grant saying how much he hates Missus Lincoln.
- 26:34Speaker 8: If there's any reason why to doubt he's the greatest
- 26:37Speaker 8: sports soun radio shows.
- 26:38Speaker 3: That's it, right there. Just play that clip in the
- 26:40Speaker 3: All Fame.
- 26:41Speaker 1: It is it is poetry Taylor has given Doggie a
- 26:45Speaker 1: run for his money. I don't remember how we stumbled
- 26:49Speaker 1: upon this, but he blurted out, do you think they
- 26:51Speaker 1: have sports radio in Italy? And I said the host
- 26:54Speaker 1: should be Jim Rome if they do. And Taylor was
- 26:57Speaker 1: not happy with the name Jim Rome. So he created
- 26:59Speaker 1: his own character, his own Italian sports radio talk show name.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And he has a talk show in Italy, in Rome.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And here's a piece of it.
- 27:08Speaker 5: At now you know where you're listening to a banjo Ragazzi.
- 27:16Speaker 5: It's a me, Mike Francese and Mamma Mia. We miss
- 27:20Speaker 5: a third consecutive World Cup. Gabrielle Gravini resigned. Jean Luigi
- 27:25Speaker 5: Bufan is stepping down. This Bouffan is a buffoon. Enough, Abastanza,
- 27:32Speaker 5: it's time to fire Gennaro Gattuso. The g's in both
- 27:37Speaker 5: Gennaro and Gattuso. Stanford, get him out of here. And
- 27:43Speaker 5: don't get me started on our goalkeeper, John Luigi don Orama.
- 27:48Speaker 5: I'm done o Rama with him. Fanito. I've got my
- 27:53Speaker 5: top five people in sports who knota Italy Chinkwin, Matt Milano, Quatro,
- 28:06Speaker 5: Florence Griffin, Joiner, Hello, Joe Prey, Jim Romeim you're Jim Rome,
- 28:17Speaker 5: due Mic Napoli.
- 28:21Speaker 4: In America the color Mike Naples, who.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Barry Bonds Here comes Como Cleo Zorich and hire says
- 28:33Speaker 5: Fabrigas or Francisco Savelli. In other news, Vinnipascutino is off
- 28:39Speaker 5: to a slow start in Arkansas City to start the
- 28:42Speaker 5: season in the Miami Heat. Need to play Simoni fan Techio.
- 28:45Speaker 5: More so, we have today Rivederci.
- 28:52Speaker 1: So that was yesterday and today Italy fires their soccer coach.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I mean how about that?
- 28:56Speaker 8: I mean this is absolute. How can Italy be such
- 28:59Speaker 8: a soccer mad country? And three straight World Cups they've missed.
- 29:03Speaker 8: I mean that is an absolute gong show. And nif
- 29:05Speaker 8: they's still won the euro in there, so they're horrible
- 29:07Speaker 8: on the world stage. And yet if it's just Europe
- 29:09Speaker 8: they can win twenty twenty one. They want to love
- 29:11Speaker 8: the Jean Luigia Bouffont reference one of the great keepers
- 29:13Speaker 8: of all time at a good cess. Fabrigast reference giving
- 29:16Speaker 8: a run for the best soccer name. Still the best
- 29:18Speaker 8: one is former FIFA chief step Bladder. I've got a
- 29:22Speaker 8: bad case of set bladder.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 29:27Speaker 2: Live Week dacent three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.
- 29:33Speaker 3: We'll get to some baseball here in a second. It
- 29:36Speaker 3: is Eddie Murphy's birthday.
- 29:38Speaker 8: How old is he is?
- 29:39Speaker 9: He?
- 29:39Speaker 4: Oh, he was born in sixty one. So you do
- 29:42Speaker 4: the math yees sixty five.
- 29:43Speaker 3: I'm not good at quick math.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Add Dan, your favorite Eddie Murphy movie, your favorite role
- 29:48Speaker 1: from Eddie.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Well, it's tough to talk.
- 29:50Speaker 8: The iconic ones too. Beverly Hills Cop is actual, Folly
- 29:53Speaker 8: is unbelievable, Banana the tail pipe. I think forty eight
- 29:55Speaker 8: hours is unbelievable, particularly that scene when he goes in
- 29:58Speaker 8: the red Knick bar and puts the cowboy on and says,
- 30:00Speaker 8: there's a new sheriff in town. But I'll go with
- 30:02Speaker 8: one that is very underrated, underappreciated Bowfinger, because you played
- 30:07Speaker 8: two Wells and Steve Martin together. I'm tell you it's
- 30:10Speaker 8: a great, great Eddie Murphy performance, shows his comic range
- 30:13Speaker 8: and his timing, and of course shut up to the
- 30:14Speaker 8: nutty professor. There's your Mount Rushmore nutting professor of forty hours,
- 30:17Speaker 8: Beverly Hills Cop, but underrated, underappreciate bow Finger.
- 30:21Speaker 6: I can't argue with your top three for somebody who's
- 30:24Speaker 6: seen all of the Eddie Murphy greats, but man, I gotta.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Throw as an underrated one in.
- 30:29Speaker 6: There also is Life, because it's just the range and
- 30:32Speaker 6: ages that he plays, and just it's so good.
- 30:36Speaker 4: It's honestly, I thought.
- 30:37Speaker 6: Eddie had lost it for a while, and then Life
- 30:40Speaker 6: came out and I was like, this is amazing. Why
- 30:43Speaker 6: aren't people treating this like one of the greatest comedies ever?
- 30:46Speaker 8: Well, two great comedians together, as you know, is him
- 30:48Speaker 8: and Martin Lawrence together really funny and it had some
- 30:50Speaker 8: good elements of drama as well. Right, wasn't just a comedy?
- 30:53Speaker 8: Speaking of drama, remember dream Girls comes out Beyonce a
- 30:57Speaker 8: great cast. Obviously, he looks like his position to win
- 31:00Speaker 8: an Oscar. He's nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Finally, Eddie
- 31:02Speaker 8: Murphy's gonna win an Oscar. As usual, the Oscars can't
- 31:05Speaker 8: reward comeds for some reason. They're averse to that. But
- 31:07Speaker 8: if you do a dramatic rule, well then we'll give
- 31:08Speaker 8: you an Oscar. So it's happened time and time again.
- 31:10Speaker 8: This will be Eddie's moment. Looks he's gonna win, and
- 31:12Speaker 8: then what happened to his norbit came out right before
- 31:15Speaker 8: the Oscars, and voters looked up and said, I can't.
- 31:19Speaker 8: I can't vote for a kind that makes that kind
- 31:20Speaker 8: of a movie. Eddie Murphy loses the Oscar because of Norbit.
- 31:24Speaker 8: That's wow.
- 31:25Speaker 4: I had no idea.
- 31:26Speaker 6: What a regretful uh, I guess movie that was for
- 31:29Speaker 6: him to make.
- 31:29Speaker 4: It ruined it for him.
- 31:30Speaker 5: Ad In on that Mount Rushmore, I noticed, no coming
- 31:33Speaker 5: to America. Everyone's a movie expert. Now look at this.
- 31:36Speaker 8: Yeah, you're right, you know what. Let's kick off both
- 31:38Speaker 8: finger screwed. It's overrated coming from America. Wait coming, What
- 31:41Speaker 8: a horrible list by me? Coming to America? Bow fingers gone.
- 31:44Speaker 3: As soon as you're.
- 31:45Speaker 8: Trying to zigging up zagging, you're right, Taylor coming to
- 31:47Speaker 8: America again. I just mentioned the fact he played different
- 31:49Speaker 8: characters that barbershop seed.
- 31:50Speaker 3: He so good. Yeah, it's coming to America. You dig
- 31:53Speaker 3: too much? You did? You got carried away. It's understandable. Taylor.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Have you seen Coming to America?
- 31:58Speaker 5: It was the only one I've seen. I've got of
- 32:00Speaker 5: all the movies.
- 32:00Speaker 6: You guys just said, no, I just want to go
- 32:04Speaker 6: hang out with Taylor and just watch all these movies.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Yes, yes, uh, although it's seventy six years old. We'll
- 32:15Speaker 1: get to faarophouleag just a second. What have been your
- 32:17Speaker 1: thoughts here on the ABS challenge system through the first
- 32:20Speaker 1: week and a half.
- 32:21Speaker 3: I guess I love it, Stu. It has been a
- 32:23Speaker 3: unanimous home run.
- 32:24Speaker 8: I'm shocked by this because generally people you can't finde
- 32:27Speaker 8: hundred percent of approval of anything in life, movies, music, politics,
- 32:30Speaker 8: and everyone goes, this is great. No more screw ups
- 32:33Speaker 8: from these umpires. And the best part of it, as
- 32:35Speaker 8: you know, is the tennis guys. Well, it's quick once
- 32:37Speaker 8: they said, it's just like Hawkeye. Okay, great, just like
- 32:39Speaker 8: in tennis federal challenges. He's right, boot. We move on
- 32:42Speaker 8: and baseball challenge and go. And the best part of
- 32:44Speaker 8: it has been the comic relief. C. B. Buckner got
- 32:47Speaker 8: overturned seven times in a single baseball game. Yeah, and
- 32:50Speaker 8: agains Aohanio Suarez. He calls them up with strike three.
- 32:53Speaker 8: Immediately Suarez challenges it's point four inches off. Okay, close enough,
- 32:57Speaker 8: next but strike three, no challenges again. This was a
- 32:59Speaker 8: foot to half off. The play. The crowd's half roaring,
- 33:02Speaker 8: half cheering, half laughing. Luckily for Simbe Buckner. Uh Asuarez
- 33:06Speaker 8: popped up after that. But this is putting the umpires
- 33:08Speaker 8: on blast, and I'm tired of the situation where umpires go, Wow,
- 33:11Speaker 8: it doesn't matter if the call is wrong, we'll just
- 33:12Speaker 8: replay it. No, you look bad if you don't make
- 33:15Speaker 8: the call correctly. So ce B Buckner's struggling, everybody else
- 33:18Speaker 8: is loving it. Aps I'm all in.
- 33:20Speaker 5: And then we're a couple of minutes away from Connor
- 33:22Speaker 5: Griffin getting his first at bat in the MLB. They're
- 33:26Speaker 5: holding negotiations with him too, for a long term deal.
- 33:29Speaker 5: He's probably gonna pass that Colt Emerson deal that the
- 33:32Speaker 5: Mariners just gave out any day. Now, what are what
- 33:35Speaker 5: are expectations that you have for Griffin as as he
- 33:38Speaker 5: makes his MLB debut?
- 33:40Speaker 8: So he was fifty to fifty Taylor to make the
- 33:42Speaker 8: Pirates opening day roster. Had a good spring training, not great.
- 33:45Speaker 8: He didn't hit for average hit buck seventy one, but
- 33:47Speaker 8: he had some slug He was slugging around four eighty
- 33:49Speaker 8: five hundred. He's terrific defensively, and everyone knows this guy's
- 33:52Speaker 8: going to be a star. He's a number one prospect
- 33:53Speaker 8: in baseball. Six four two twenty two, so he already
- 33:56Speaker 8: is a man out there. It felt a little silly
- 33:59Speaker 8: to me that they sent down first.
- 34:00Speaker 3: But part of the reasoning was, as buster only are
- 34:02Speaker 3: friend reported, they wanted.
- 34:03Speaker 8: To make sure the contract got done. So he goes
- 34:05Speaker 8: down a triple A for literally it's been a week
- 34:07Speaker 8: and a half.
- 34:07Speaker 3: He has like a five to twenty six on base percentage.
- 34:09Speaker 8: There's no reason he's being triple A, but they want
- 34:11Speaker 8: to get the deal done. Apparently nine years, one hundred
- 34:14Speaker 8: and forty million dollars before he's ever even played a
- 34:16Speaker 8: baseball game, so who knows if it ends up happening
- 34:18Speaker 8: today after the first pitch they signed, they all and
- 34:20Speaker 8: get it done. But cannot wait to watch this kid.
- 34:22Speaker 8: And good for the Pirates, we know they only have
- 34:23Speaker 8: so many years of Paul Skins four more years including
- 34:26Speaker 8: this year of schemes under club control, so call up
- 34:29Speaker 8: Connor Griffin. They've made some moves. They traded for Marcelo,
- 34:31Speaker 8: they signed Marcelozuna, traded for Brandon Lowle, They signed Jake Mangan,
- 34:34Speaker 8: they sign ron O'hearns. So they're a better team. And
- 34:37Speaker 8: let's be honest, if they can score four runs a
- 34:39Speaker 8: game with that pitching staff, they can be a five
- 34:41Speaker 8: hundred team. And if you can be a five hundred team, well,
- 34:43Speaker 8: the Red's made the playoffs and eighty three wins a
- 34:44Speaker 8: year ago, so I would love to see the Pirates
- 34:46Speaker 8: in the playoffs. Would love to see Connor Griffin be
- 34:48Speaker 8: that next bright, shining star five to a player, he's
- 34:51Speaker 8: got it all.
- 34:51Speaker 6: And then I want to go back to ABS real quick.
- 34:53Speaker 6: You're obviously a tennis guy as well. Maybe not obvious
- 34:56Speaker 6: to everybody, but you're a tennis guy as well. And
- 34:58Speaker 6: tennis is it just the major Is it just major
- 35:00Speaker 6: tournaments where they've got rid of the linesmen altogether, where
- 35:03Speaker 6: they just have the call going. You know you can
- 35:06Speaker 6: hear it, but obviously they just have the robot calls.
- 35:09Speaker 4: There are we.
- 35:10Speaker 6: Far away from just having You can still have the
- 35:13Speaker 6: home played up, but he's not calling balls and strikes,
- 35:16Speaker 6: so you don't have situations where Aaron Boone is yelling
- 35:18Speaker 6: get it together out there because it's unnecessary, right because
- 35:21Speaker 6: we have this.
- 35:23Speaker 8: It was my first thought is when they said Abs,
- 35:25Speaker 8: I said, so there's no more umpires, and immediately I
- 35:27Speaker 8: got nostalgic. One of the best parts of a baseball
- 35:29Speaker 8: game is watching Aaron Boone or Lou Panella or Bobby Cox,
- 35:33Speaker 8: whoever it was, getting ejected and just losing their mind.
- 35:36Speaker 8: I mean, one of the great baseball moments ever is
- 35:38Speaker 8: Lloyd mcclennon and the Piers manager so upset he stole
- 35:40Speaker 8: the base with him. He got kicked out of the
- 35:42Speaker 8: game and took first bases out and leaving. You're kicking
- 35:44Speaker 8: me out of the game, I'm taking a base with me.
- 35:46Speaker 8: So I do think eventually that happened will happen. I
- 35:48Speaker 8: think for now the umpire's unit is so strong they'll
- 35:51Speaker 8: push back and say, listen, you're losing up art, You're
- 35:53Speaker 8: losing jobs to be protective here.
- 35:54Speaker 5: But you're right.
- 35:55Speaker 8: If there's abs, why the world did you even need
- 35:57Speaker 8: a human element there, because clearly a computer can just
- 35:59Speaker 8: call balls strikes for you.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yes, give me the music here for fair or foul.
- 36:03Speaker 3: It is time. Ad Dan.
- 36:09Speaker 5: Happy, happy home opener to the Yankee fans that are
- 36:12Speaker 5: listening out there.
- 36:15Speaker 1: You can't have the home opener against the Marlins, by
- 36:17Speaker 1: the way, you can't do it.
- 36:18Speaker 3: I mean the Red Sox are playing the Adres. What
- 36:20Speaker 3: are we doing around here? I mean, Jesus, Baseball, get
- 36:22Speaker 3: it together.
- 36:23Speaker 4: Let's go fix it.
- 36:25Speaker 8: Actually to see a game on Netflix.
- 36:26Speaker 3: What are we doing here?
- 36:27Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 36:27Speaker 1: And by the way, day games used to mean something.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I mean, now all we have is day games.
- 36:31Speaker 3: It's ridiculous.
- 36:33Speaker 5: So just a reminder. Fair and foul is takes from
- 36:36Speaker 5: the week in baseball that I asked Adnan, and then
- 36:39Speaker 5: Adnan has to say whether they are fair or foul.
- 36:42Speaker 5: The Yankees, Cam Schlitzer is Paul Skins with worst pr.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Man before you, before you answer that.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Okay, he said earlier in the week that he would
- 36:54Speaker 1: not trade Cam straight up for ball skiings.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Okay, it's this an absurd statement, it's a foul statement. Okay.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Schlitzler is an absolute stud.
- 37:02Speaker 8: This guy throws as hard as anybody, and it's pickly,
- 37:04Speaker 8: it's forcing fastball. I like about him is that there's
- 37:06Speaker 8: no trickery here. Chamsellor does not throw six pitches. He's
- 37:09Speaker 8: not like dice K Matsuzaka throwing a gyro ball. It's
- 37:11Speaker 8: just like Bay I'm gonna throw hard and throw fast
- 37:14Speaker 8: every single time. His velo is as high as anyone
- 37:16Speaker 8: in the game. That forcing fastball has a lot of
- 37:18Speaker 8: run to it. But that is an absurd statement. He's
- 37:20Speaker 8: not quite Paul Skins yet. He's had a year and
- 37:22Speaker 8: a half in his belt. Skins won Rookie the year
- 37:24Speaker 8: two years ago. He won the cy Young last year.
- 37:26Speaker 8: Chamsellor has not done either yet, so sold down.
- 37:28Speaker 5: It's a foul.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 37:29Speaker 5: So my problem with that was John Hayman's reporting made
- 37:33Speaker 5: it sound like the pirates were so but we're so
- 37:37Speaker 5: set in their way of not even picking up the
- 37:39Speaker 5: phone when the Yankees called ad Nan that now you
- 37:43Speaker 5: missed the cam slit or window.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Here's a bitter GM.
- 37:46Speaker 3: It's become emotional for him. I mean, geez, if.
- 37:50Speaker 8: It had to be Schlitzler and a few other prospects,
- 37:52Speaker 8: then I get it. If you're saying Schlitzler for skiing straight up.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Right of Gorge, you would had you be fired if
- 37:58Speaker 3: you didn't pick.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Up the phone over the emotional general manager, it would
- 38:01Speaker 6: never work out.
- 38:03Speaker 5: The Milwaukee Brewers are inevitable, fair or found.
- 38:08Speaker 3: That's a fair com just too. How I screwed up
- 38:11Speaker 3: putting bow finger on the Eddie Murphy Mount Rushmore.
- 38:13Speaker 8: Every year each one is zig and new zagging. Okay,
- 38:15Speaker 8: who is the second best team in the National League,
- 38:17Speaker 8: and nobody picks the Brewers. They go, well, maybe it's
- 38:20Speaker 8: the Phillies, maybe it's the Mets, maybe it's a healthy
- 38:22Speaker 8: Braves team, maybe it's the Cubs for signed Brightman. Now
- 38:25Speaker 8: the Brewers. They won the most games in baseball last season.
- 38:27Speaker 8: No respect for this team, and Pat Murphy looks pocket
- 38:30Speaker 8: pancakes as much as the next guy. They can trade
- 38:32Speaker 8: with their ace and Freddie Peralta and still be one
- 38:34Speaker 8: of the best teams in baseball. The Brewers are inevitable.
- 38:37Speaker 8: They've won the division three straight years for the last five.
- 38:39Speaker 8: They'll be a playoff team again, whether people like it
- 38:41Speaker 8: or not.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Pardon me, what's a pocket pancake?
- 38:44Speaker 8: So he's known for uh, I gets eggs, a little
- 38:47Speaker 8: hungry easy. So he's a big guy, so he just
- 38:49Speaker 8: keeps like these little pocket pancakes.
- 38:53Speaker 6: It was way more inside baseball than that, and that's
- 38:55Speaker 6: what that is.
- 38:56Speaker 8: It's a literal term.
- 39:00Speaker 5: The Marlins. Sandie al Contara is back.
- 39:07Speaker 8: This Marlins team I mean much too. I mean it's
- 39:09Speaker 8: the Chagrida Boats of the known universe. Because now Jeremy
- 39:11Speaker 8: Tasha is gonna be insufferable. But the Marlin drew off
- 39:13Speaker 8: to a great start. Now here's where I'll pull a
- 39:15Speaker 8: cold water on it. They played the Rockies and the
- 39:18Speaker 8: White Sox out of the game, the two worst teams
- 39:20Speaker 8: in baseball from a season ago. But no one can
- 39:22Speaker 8: deny they were five to one prior to meeting the buzz.
- 39:24Speaker 8: So that is the Yankees today and losing eight to two.
- 39:26Speaker 8: Yankees best record in baseball. But al Conthroe is back.
- 39:29Speaker 8: He threw ninety three pitches the first complete game of
- 39:31Speaker 8: this season. That was in his second start, his first turn.
- 39:33Speaker 8: He looked really good. Him and Urie Press together are
- 39:36Speaker 8: a great one two. And they've got a bunch of
- 39:37Speaker 8: Canadians on this team, including Owen Casey, the pride of Burlington, Ontario.
- 39:41Speaker 8: He was great for Team Canada the WBC. I also
- 39:43Speaker 8: like Liam Hicks. They called them the Maple Mashers. Not
- 39:45Speaker 8: sure if that's going to catch on. But Sandie al
- 39:47Speaker 8: Contre is back.
- 39:48Speaker 3: That's fair.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I want to try fair foul. The Red Sox are overrated.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna say foul. It is a bad start to
- 39:56Speaker 1: the years.
- 39:57Speaker 8: Due You're right when I stee won in five for
- 39:59Speaker 8: Boston E Yeah, and I talked to old Histian alumni
- 40:02Speaker 8: and old Baseball Tonight colleague and friend Alex Cora, and
- 40:04Speaker 8: I said to him about a month ago, I said,
- 40:05Speaker 8: you're a bat light. He said, what are you talking about?
- 40:07Speaker 8: I got I'm just saying, I said, Roman anthiluxing a stud.
- 40:09Speaker 8: But Trevor's story has to stay healthy. I love your
- 40:12Speaker 8: starting pitching. The starting pitching is unbelievable, but you look
- 40:14Speaker 8: to be a bat light. Looks like he's a few
- 40:16Speaker 8: bats light right now for that one in five starts.
- 40:17Speaker 8: So I think it's foul for now, Stu but called
- 40:20Speaker 8: me back in about couple of weeks. The redsucks. Still.
- 40:22Speaker 8: You may be honored something before anybody else. Everyone thought
- 40:25Speaker 8: the Red Sox will be a three race with the
- 40:26Speaker 8: Yankees and Bluejes in the Al East.
- 40:29Speaker 3: How many games did it take you to text Cora?
- 40:31Speaker 3: Hey told you?
- 40:32Speaker 8: So you didn't give it for the weekend. I was like,
- 40:37Speaker 8: I'll give it to Yeah, I haven't said it yet.
- 40:40Speaker 8: I don't want to piss him off. I'll give it
- 40:41Speaker 8: through Easter and go, Hey, just say it. Need a
- 40:43Speaker 8: bench code. I know a guy in New Jersey.
- 40:46Speaker 1: You know what, Send me the number and I'll text
- 40:48Speaker 1: Cora on your behalf, I'll say, hey, Nan told you so,
- 40:50Speaker 1: I mean.
- 40:53Speaker 5: Short, and then any radio personalities that come out with
- 40:58Speaker 5: the take show heyo ton is overrated should get their
- 41:01Speaker 5: baseball card revoked? Fair foul?
- 41:03Speaker 3: Dare you?
- 41:04Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 41:04Speaker 8: That's fair? Of course, who the hell is gonna be
- 41:06Speaker 8: criticizing showy o'ty? No? Come on still you kid?
- 41:10Speaker 5: Oh?
- 41:10Speaker 8: Tonny does everything, he does it well. When people took
- 41:13Speaker 8: the greatest player of all time, we go hang on
- 41:14Speaker 8: a second, babe, Ruth literally changed baseball ten Williams is unbelievable.
- 41:17Speaker 8: Obviously will amaze.
- 41:18Speaker 3: But if we're saying top ten all time, the guy
- 41:20Speaker 3: he's a.
- 41:20Speaker 8: Four m MVP, it could be suit. Whoever says he's overrated,
- 41:23Speaker 8: what are you rating him next to? He's the best
- 41:25Speaker 8: player in baseball?
- 41:25Speaker 3: I mean slow start hit his first homer today? I
- 41:28Speaker 3: mean how about that? Geez?
- 41:30Speaker 8: The hung two game season, Come on, give the gun?
- 41:33Speaker 3: Could be be stupid? Tigue?
- 41:34Speaker 4: Can I try one?
- 41:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 41:36Speaker 4: All right? Wow, bad man?
- 41:38Speaker 6: The San Antonio Spurs are ready to win a championship
- 41:41Speaker 6: this year.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Fair foul, it's fair?
- 41:44Speaker 8: Listen is he my son shouts a huge basketball fan
- 41:46Speaker 8: he can't get enough of Whimby. I said, this guy
- 41:48Speaker 8: might go down as one of the great players of
- 41:50Speaker 8: all time. I've never seen one that long and lean
- 41:52Speaker 8: who can shoot the way he can. And credit to
- 41:54Speaker 8: the Spurs. They're all those teams kind of like this Yukon magic. Okay,
- 41:57Speaker 8: Spurs had their run. Now they're going to fade away.
- 41:58Speaker 8: They fitted a little bit pop went away, but they're back.
- 42:01Speaker 8: I know, like they're gonna be back the next ten years.
- 42:03Speaker 8: And I don't want to put too much of it
- 42:04Speaker 8: a Wemby, but this guy is so explosive and so talented,
- 42:07Speaker 8: especially head to head against Okay, See, we know the
- 42:09Speaker 8: Spurs have had their number. I'm loving san Antonio. Great Callbayzy.
- 42:12Speaker 3: That is fair.
- 42:13Speaker 1: I want to try. Uh, Luca will never win a championship,
- 42:16Speaker 1: fair or foul.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Fair.
- 42:18Speaker 8: I don't want to say it's the ewing thing, but
- 42:21Speaker 8: I think. I think he's one of these guys. He's
- 42:23Speaker 8: gonna score thirty at night and everyone's gonna say what
- 42:25Speaker 8: a great star he is. But I don't necessarily see
- 42:27Speaker 8: him improving others like Wenby, I think will make players
- 42:30Speaker 8: run him better. I think lucas that guy. I think
- 42:32Speaker 8: lucas an assassin. I think he'll get his points, but
- 42:34Speaker 8: I do not see him lifting the play of others.
- 42:36Speaker 3: That is a fair statement. Luca doesn't win a title.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Let me try here, Tommy Lloyd should have taken the
- 42:41Speaker 5: North Carolina fair and foul.
- 42:44Speaker 4: So we gotta get.
- 42:45Speaker 8: Michael Lombardi back on all right. He was texting me
- 42:47Speaker 8: the other day. He was watching him onile Be Network.
- 42:48Speaker 8: He was great on the podcast. Taylor, did you ever
- 42:50Speaker 8: take up Mike on his offer to go to UNC
- 42:52Speaker 8: or UNC Alumnia you could hung up with Lombardi and Belichick?
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 42:55Speaker 5: So, I think my card got revoked when I started
- 42:57Speaker 5: talking about Bill Belichick after they lost that first.
- 43:03Speaker 3: I'm gonna text Mike after this conversation.
- 43:05Speaker 8: Hey, can Taylor still show up? He'll be Who the
- 43:07Speaker 8: hell is Taylor?
- 43:08Speaker 3: That guy out of here?
- 43:09Speaker 8: Is that the guy who sings with st Gotts?
- 43:12Speaker 3: Taylor? He is dead to Lombardi, I mean, all right?
- 43:18Speaker 3: And then, Happy Easter to you and your family.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Enjoyed the weekend, my friend, and we appreciate you joining
- 43:23Speaker 1: us as always.
- 43:24Speaker 8: Thanks so much, guys, as always tailored by the next
- 43:26Speaker 8: time we speak, Happy Easter at all.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Real quick, have you seen a Bronx Tail.
- 43:30Speaker 5: No, wow, wow, it's not about I have seen back
- 43:37Speaker 5: in the future.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Yeah, okay. And last one listen Tangling Cash just for Stu.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Yes, I watch that all right? Which one are you
- 43:44Speaker 1: watching this week? I want a full review for Adnan
- 43:46Speaker 1: next week. Which one have we agreed to a movie yet?
- 43:49Speaker 8: Father?
- 43:50Speaker 5: Oh? I think we settled on T two.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Okay, all right, okay, you don't.
- 43:55Speaker 8: You don't even seen the first one?
- 43:59Speaker 3: You get skipping? It's f Adnan. Thank you. We'll talk
- 44:01Speaker 3: to you soon, buddy.
- 44:02Speaker 8: Thanks as always to appreciate you guys.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Thank you
