Seismic Imaging and Full-Waveform Inversion
A seismic image is an interpretation built from waves, measurements and a model of the Earth. Begin with impedance and reflection, then follow stacking, migration and wave-propagation methods toward full-waveform inversion. Difficult geology exposes how strongly an image depends on the assumed physics and velocity model. The episode also examines the computational bill and the distinction between acoustic and elastic descriptions, connecting subsurface insight to the limits of the reconstruction process.
