A Redwood City liquor store fire that killed two men in November 2025 may have been set intentionally by 56-year-old Benigno Nuguid Pare, according to authorities. Found with a chain locked around his wrists — tight on one, loose on the other — and amid gasoline fumes in a back loft, Pare is now suspected of starting the blaze himself. The store’s locked doors and lack of evidence pointing to others suggest this was a solo act.
