- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports Daily here on Radio Folkston bringing
- 0:04Speaker 1: you the Folkstone and High Sports Show. On today's show,
- 0:07Speaker 1: we have local football, a wheelchair basketball, Folkston Netball League, Cricket,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Saints basketball, and we've got news of Saturday's big sports
- 0:16Speaker 1: show including the London Marathon special. And my special guest
- 0:24Speaker 1: today is Sarah Green from the Sports Trust who is
- 0:26Speaker 1: also the Shepwey School Sports Liaison Officer and she'll be
- 0:30Speaker 1: telling us all about the Trust and exactly what she
- 0:32Speaker 1: does in the schools of Shepwey. So I found a
- 0:43Speaker 1: couple of school related tracks in the playlist today that
- 0:48Speaker 1: we're going to start with this one. When was the
- 0:49Speaker 1: last time you heard this one? Paul Simon, Me and
- 0:53Speaker 1: Julio down by the schoolyard. Mama Pajol will roll out
- 1:13Speaker 1: of it and she ran through the Goldish When the
- 1:17Speaker 1: Papa found out, you began a shout, you started the investigation.
- 1:33Speaker 1: That's me and Julio down by the school yard nineteen
- 1:36Speaker 1: seventy two. Word Okay, So we're gonna do a bit
- 1:40Speaker 1: about schools today. So we have got another school track
- 1:42Speaker 1: lined up. There's only one I can find in the playlist,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and you know it straight away. So I'm joining the
- 1:47Speaker 1: studio now by Sarah Green. Hello Sarah, how are you?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Hi? Kevin? And well, thank you.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Excellent, good lovely to see you again. Now you've been
- 1:54Speaker 1: a guest to the show several times before, so please
- 1:57Speaker 1: remind myself and our listeners who you work for and
- 2:00Speaker 1: just what your role is with the schools.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Okay. So my role at the Sports Trust is the
- 2:05Speaker 2: schools Manager, which I do for one day a week.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I'm also the school games organized for Folkston, which I
- 2:11Speaker 2: do three days a week, and I'm the strategically for
- 2:14Speaker 2: the buck Is Girls Football Partnership, which is another day
- 2:16Speaker 2: a week. I'm glad I got through all those titles.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You got lots of hats to put on every day.
- 2:23Speaker 1: What job am I doing today? Okay? So you are
- 2:28Speaker 1: currently are you? First of all, it used to be
- 2:31Speaker 1: the ship By Sports Trust and now it's just the
- 2:34Speaker 1: Sports Trust. Is it the same people, same objectives?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, same same objectives, Our mission and vision of very
- 2:41Speaker 2: they're the same. So we want to build a lifelong
- 2:44Speaker 2: love of sport and dismantle barriers for anyone who can't
- 2:48Speaker 2: access it for whatever reason. Yeah, mission is still the same.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Okay. So to be honest, I think the Sports Trust
- 2:58Speaker 1: has been a little bit quiet lately on social media.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Perhaps it just hasn't popped up on my pace, but
- 3:04Speaker 1: tell us a little bit about the background, what they
- 3:06Speaker 1: do and what goes on down there.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's probably been a little bit quiet recently
- 3:10Speaker 2: because our main marketing ladies actually maternity leaves. So congratulations
- 3:13Speaker 2: Rossie if you're listening. We yet we still run all
- 3:18Speaker 2: our programs as we have before. So we obviously have
- 3:22Speaker 2: our venues with f fifty one and three Hill Sports
- 3:25Speaker 2: Park and the c Sports Center. We have a very
- 3:28Speaker 2: successful schools program which the competitions are running really well.
- 3:33Speaker 2: We've provided opportunities for nearly fifteen fifteen hundred participants this year.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Already we have lots of lots of far schools joining
- 3:42Speaker 2: in all those opportunities. So yeah, lots lots going.
- 3:46Speaker 1: On, excellent. I must say that. I'm going to talk
- 3:49Speaker 1: about it later on in the show. But the other Saturday,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I went down to the Three Hills and I just
- 3:55Speaker 1: went down initially to watch the Folks and Netball League
- 3:59Speaker 1: Easter tournament. But man, the car parked in Morrisons. Don't
- 4:03Speaker 1: tell Morrison's but that's what I do. A park in
- 4:05Speaker 1: Morrison's that go through defense. So the car park was
- 4:09Speaker 1: jammed and when I got in there, there was hockey
- 4:13Speaker 1: going on there. I walked past the cricket, there was
- 4:17Speaker 1: the basketball, sorry, the netball, there was the paddle tennis,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and then I was chatting to Mark from the Saints.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It was it was it was so nice to see.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It really was, you know, it was just like duel
- 4:32Speaker 1: in the crown of folks and when it comes to sport,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I must admit, especially after we've lost the sports center,
- 4:38Speaker 1: it was it was just thriving, all ages, really enjoying themselves,
- 4:43Speaker 1: which is kind of what the Sports Trust his mission
- 4:47Speaker 1: statement is, isn't it to get sport out there for
- 4:49Speaker 1: everybody and everybody and all ages. So I got down
- 4:57Speaker 1: here a list of activities that they do. I mean,
- 5:00Speaker 1: is there any that you want to highlight perhaps that
- 5:02Speaker 1: need a little bit of a push. Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So, first of all, we can promote our Shred Club
- 5:08Speaker 2: f fifty one. So we partner with many of the
- 5:11Speaker 2: schools in the district and when they spend a certain
- 5:14Speaker 2: amount or commit a certain amount with us, we give
- 5:17Speaker 2: them shred Club membership for all of their peopils.
- 5:20Speaker 1: What club is that, It's called.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Shred Club and yeah, it equates to accessing the skatepark
- 5:27Speaker 2: for one pound a month for twelve months. So the
- 5:31Speaker 2: access into the park is in that it's within restricted
- 5:35Speaker 2: sessions so that we know obviously how many participants we
- 5:39Speaker 2: have coming. But it's a really good way of getting
- 5:42Speaker 2: into the park at a low cost. You bring your
- 5:46Speaker 2: helmets and things additional or you can hire them there.
- 5:49Speaker 2: But it's a really great way to say access to
- 5:52Speaker 2: the park. Another one is our holiday camp. So our
- 5:56Speaker 2: holiday and food camps funded by the government have gone
- 5:59Speaker 2: really successful. We run centers at three Hill Sports Park,
- 6:04Speaker 2: at the Marsh Marsh Academy Center and also at fifty
- 6:09Speaker 2: one and they're not just sports activities. We also do
- 6:13Speaker 2: enrichment such as craft or smoothie bikes as well as
- 6:18Speaker 2: sometimes at the Marsh we can use these a cinema
- 6:21Speaker 2: down there, which is really awesome. They all get a
- 6:24Speaker 2: hot meal as well.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Camps only recently found out they've actually got a cinema
- 6:29Speaker 1: down there. Yeah, with somebody I know who lives down
- 6:31Speaker 1: that way and they said, oh, we went to the
- 6:32Speaker 1: pictures the other day. Are ware to go Ashford Dover.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We went to the Marsh Academy. What years Yeah, yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 1: so I mean things like like pickleball and things like that.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Are they still going in over fifties clubs?
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Active fifties is going strong. They have several sessions
- 6:54Speaker 2: going on a week from circuits down to zomba, pickleball,
- 7:00Speaker 2: walk in football, all different activities. And we also have
- 7:03Speaker 2: the Little Ones little athletes on a Wednesday, which is
- 7:06Speaker 2: a free program which are able to fund so they
- 7:10Speaker 2: can come down and make the most of the center
- 7:12Speaker 2: and have a sort of social time in the cafe
- 7:15Speaker 2: afterwards as well.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Little athletes. How little are they do you know?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Oh they're very little, as little as they come Kevin, Yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, all right. Oh that's great fun, isn't it.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I mean seeing those the little kids. It's like I
- 7:29Speaker 1: try and make a bee line for the Redna Park
- 7:31Speaker 1: Junior Park round and the maximum age is fourteen, but
- 7:37Speaker 1: you get a lot of youngsters there and they run
- 7:41Speaker 1: with their parents, you know, and some of them go
- 7:43Speaker 1: I hate running, daddy, you know, but they love it.
- 7:46Speaker 1: They get up and they go round.
- 7:48Speaker 2: It's very popular.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And there was one last last Sunday or
- 7:53Speaker 1: Sunday before. I think it was this little boy, he
- 7:56Speaker 1: must have been about five. He got about ten yards,
- 7:58Speaker 1: he stopped, he felt his arms, his bottom lip come out,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and that was it. His mum couldn't move him. But
- 8:04Speaker 1: with a little joel in and that he did the
- 8:06Speaker 1: two laps and he had a great time.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I remember carrying my daughter around the Junior Park run
- 8:13Speaker 2: in the previous years, a little while ago now. But yeah, yep, skipping, jumping, rolling, carrying,
- 8:18Speaker 2: anything to get around, anything to get him round.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So what else have we got I've got here. Let's see,
- 8:26Speaker 1: we've done a paddle Turennis that's a new one. Yeah?
- 8:29Speaker 1: That that seems to be catching on, doesn't it. I
- 8:31Speaker 1: went down there the other week and they had a
- 8:33Speaker 1: tournament on and that was on Saturday, and I can't
- 8:37Speaker 1: remember the chap's name, but he said, we think we've
- 8:39Speaker 1: made a bit of a mix up, really, so we've
- 8:41Speaker 1: got a tournament for the ladies tomorrow. Said, but it's
- 8:43Speaker 1: Mother's Day and we don't expect it, yea. So we said,
- 8:47Speaker 1: next time we book a tournament, we're going to check
- 8:49Speaker 1: the date thoroughly. So anything else going down there.
- 8:53Speaker 2: So we have a new event coming up with the
- 8:56Speaker 2: Sports Trust. We try to be inclusive as possible with
- 8:58Speaker 2: our venues and the way we approach sport and physical activity.
- 9:03Speaker 2: We're going to be running something called a Powerhouse Games,
- 9:06Speaker 2: which is something supported by an organization called Power to Inspire,
- 9:12Speaker 2: and we're going to be running it at Three Hills
- 9:15Speaker 2: on the fifteenth of May. It's effectively an inclusive sports festival.
- 9:21Speaker 2: We bring different demographics of people such as college students,
- 9:25Speaker 2: secondary school students, students who attend special school altogether, and
- 9:31Speaker 2: we mix them up into teams and they take part
- 9:33Speaker 2: in inclusive sports, so things like gold ball, things like
- 9:37Speaker 2: wheelchair basketball, sitting netball, and the idea is that these
- 9:42Speaker 2: sports are either adapted or inclusive formats which everybody can do.
- 9:48Speaker 2: And the hope is that from that event, the knowledge
- 9:51Speaker 2: and skill of knowing those sports will kind of breed
- 9:55Speaker 2: out into the community and more people will be able
- 9:58Speaker 2: to be active through those We are hoping for some
- 10:02Speaker 2: support locally. We have got some support already financially from
- 10:06Speaker 2: the Folks and Lines, which has been gratefully received, but
- 10:11Speaker 2: if there are any sort of corporate organizations that would
- 10:14Speaker 2: like to kind of support us through sponsorship or even
- 10:18Speaker 2: just coming along on the day or using their volunteer
- 10:22Speaker 2: day for staff to come along and learn about these
- 10:24Speaker 2: inclusive sports. Do a bit of leadership, get involved. We
- 10:28Speaker 2: really appreciate that too.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Well, that's excellent, and I'll tell you what this is
- 10:32Speaker 1: why it's been a bit under the radar. I think
- 10:33Speaker 1: with the with the Sports Trust that the word isn't
- 10:37Speaker 1: getting out there. So Rossie, hurry up when every baby
- 10:40Speaker 1: and then come back to work. Okay, anything else on
- 10:43Speaker 1: the Sports Trust before we switch we place on and
- 10:45Speaker 1: then go onto the schools. Have we covered everything?
- 10:49Speaker 2: So schools for the Sports Trust, we're busy with our
- 10:51Speaker 2: events and we're also working on our new schools off
- 10:55Speaker 2: of froll September, So watch that space for that one.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Okay, okay, So we got the second school song in
- 11:03Speaker 1: the playlist. Now this one, Well it's a bit a
- 11:06Speaker 1: bit late in the day for this one, but school's out,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but really it says only just starting. So have a
- 11:12Speaker 1: little listen. When did you hear this the last time?
- 11:14Speaker 1: Alice Cooper al Let's keeper? Of course you remember that
- 11:49Speaker 1: one that was so famous, wasn't it? And it's just
- 11:51Speaker 1: the the test of time every time the schools break up.
- 11:54Speaker 1: That song comes out right, So we're back in the
- 11:56Speaker 1: studio with Sarah. Sarah, so this is part to get
- 12:01Speaker 1: your other hat on and we are going to talk
- 12:04Speaker 1: now about what you do in the schools of shipway
- 12:08Speaker 1: tell us. So first of all, I've probably got your
- 12:10Speaker 1: job title wrong, so tell us what your correct job title.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Is FOLCUS in school games organizer.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Right, and what do you do for that?
- 12:18Speaker 2: So for that we have a few main targets. So
- 12:21Speaker 2: it's a government funded role. There's four hundred and fifty
- 12:24Speaker 2: of us over the country. We work with the Youth
- 12:26Speaker 2: Sports Trusts and our kind of mission vision is to
- 12:29Speaker 2: make sure that everybody is involved in school sport and
- 12:32Speaker 2: physical activity and that this whole school benefits from the
- 12:36Speaker 2: other sort of soft skills that sport can bring. So
- 12:40Speaker 2: in terms of making sure that everyone is aware of
- 12:43Speaker 2: the Active sixty agenda that children between five and eighteen
- 12:46Speaker 2: should have an average of sixty minutes of physical activity
- 12:50Speaker 2: each day, we want to make sure that all sport
- 12:53Speaker 2: and physical activity that goes on in schools is inclusive,
- 12:57Speaker 2: that it has a positive impact on the children. They
- 13:00Speaker 2: want to do it again and grow into active, motivated adults.
- 13:04Speaker 1: So do you find that in your visits to schools
- 13:08Speaker 1: because there's big schools, there's little schools. You have to
- 13:11Speaker 1: adjust the the type of advice you give to the
- 13:15Speaker 1: teachers to suit the schools because some of them got
- 13:18Speaker 1: massive players. Yeah we've just got a little playground. Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Of course, the huge disparacy between the school grounds. So
- 13:26Speaker 2: we do have a strategic roll in that we can
- 13:29Speaker 2: signposts a different advice and different training and within those
- 13:33Speaker 2: trainings and advice there's different resources they can use depending
- 13:36Speaker 2: on how much ground they have. Also, we do host
- 13:40Speaker 2: a number of events at the Three Hills Sports Park
- 13:42Speaker 2: and at the Marsh Academy so that they can come
- 13:45Speaker 2: outside their school and experience larger facilities. I know the
- 13:51Speaker 2: children who have very small playgrounds when they enter the
- 13:53Speaker 2: huge sports hall, they can be quite overwhelmed, but most
- 13:56Speaker 2: of them absolutely love it and they have a great time.
- 14:00Speaker 1: How far out does the Shepway schools border go to
- 14:04Speaker 1: before you get into Sussex. Oh?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so we have forty eight schools with the Folkston
- 14:10Speaker 2: Hive District, so that goes right from kind of towards
- 14:13Speaker 2: Canterbury's Scouting Steading Minis all the way down to Folks
- 14:17Speaker 2: and out to Hive and then out as far as
- 14:19Speaker 2: Lydd Brooklyn and Brensit.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Brooklyn, Brens It. That's right, Yeah, I remember those turning
- 14:24Speaker 1: up at the district games. Yeah. And the little schools yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I mean do you have to try and get around
- 14:30Speaker 1: to all those schools.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So I don't necessarily go into all the schools. What
- 14:33Speaker 2: I am tasked with doing is is kind of being
- 14:37Speaker 2: an ambassador for the active sixty minutes and the inclusive
- 14:41Speaker 2: sport changes. So when I can get them together is
- 14:45Speaker 2: a great time. I also want to influence their provision.
- 14:49Speaker 2: So if I can do something, for example with young
- 14:53Speaker 2: carers or with children with additional needs, I hope that
- 14:58Speaker 2: they can then replicate that back with it in their school,
- 15:00Speaker 2: or I can inspire them to try a new sport
- 15:04Speaker 2: or bring in role models. So recently something I did
- 15:07Speaker 2: it It was quite a small project, but it had
- 15:09Speaker 2: a big impact. I have a friend called Emma Brown
- 15:12Speaker 2: and she is She pays for England and gb Deaf
- 15:16Speaker 2: foot Sour football, so she goes around the world competing
- 15:21Speaker 2: in the Deaf Olympics World Championships. But having had a
- 15:28Speaker 2: hearing impairment obviously she's had to get through a lot
- 15:31Speaker 2: of barriers. And we recently went to Castle Hill Primary
- 15:36Speaker 2: School in Folkstone where they actually have a special resource
- 15:39Speaker 2: provision for children with hearing impairments and she met with
- 15:44Speaker 2: around twelve of them and the impact was awesome because
- 15:49Speaker 2: she could share her story and really inspire them on
- 15:51Speaker 2: a real down to earth ground level and it was yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 2: it just the kind of impact has been been great
- 15:59Speaker 2: on those children, right.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And it's interesting you say that because the disability football
- 16:04Speaker 1: club folks, and I've got to know over ten years now,
- 16:09Speaker 1: they play a team called Willing Death and when when
- 16:13Speaker 1: they're out on the park, they can only talk with
- 16:16Speaker 1: sign language and obviously can't hear the whistle when the
- 16:19Speaker 1: referee flows, so the referee has to have a flag,
- 16:22Speaker 1: holds a flag up if there's a fowl or anything.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, So anyway, one of the folks in Victor disability lads,
- 16:31Speaker 1: he has a hearing problem and he knows the sign language.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So what he does at halftime when they're all having
- 16:38Speaker 1: a halftime talk and they're all using them and the
- 16:41Speaker 1: mergers telling them what to do for the second half
- 16:43Speaker 1: in the sign language, he kind of has a watch
- 16:46Speaker 1: and he knows very good.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I do. I do love any any way that you
- 16:52Speaker 2: can break a barrier to get somebody to enjoy sport
- 16:55Speaker 2: and then they can be involved and become a leader,
- 16:58Speaker 2: and be passionate and be excited in most ways to
- 17:01Speaker 2: be physically active. I just absolutely love it. And my
- 17:04Speaker 2: children don't have hearing disability, but they love to learn
- 17:08Speaker 2: a bit of sign language and Emma really inspires them.
- 17:12Speaker 2: My daughter can do the alphabet really quickly, and and
- 17:15Speaker 2: you know what it, visual learning is is brilliant for
- 17:18Speaker 2: lots of children. And there are a lot of things
- 17:21Speaker 2: that you might do in an inclusive training session that
- 17:25Speaker 2: can be beneficial to all children.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And it's adults as well, because I do a lot
- 17:30Speaker 1: of If you like comparing at races, we've got PA
- 17:33Speaker 1: system talk to people. Every race has to have a
- 17:36Speaker 1: race briefing before they go off, and is some of
- 17:39Speaker 1: the races, including one of the park rounds that folks them.
- 17:44Speaker 1: There is one or two people that have gone up
- 17:47Speaker 1: and whilst I'm talking about which you know the water
- 17:50Speaker 1: stations and you know the traffic, and they are doing
- 17:53Speaker 1: the sign people out that's a yeah, so's we are
- 17:58Speaker 1: becoming more inclusive these days. Aren't we. And we're looking
- 18:00Speaker 1: after people that are you know, years ago, were if
- 18:03Speaker 1: you like, underprivileged and we're always left out. So it's
- 18:06Speaker 1: great to include everybody. So anything else then you've got
- 18:10Speaker 1: some footballers, haven't you.
- 18:12Speaker 2: That's right, So again kind of working with the school games.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Girls again are historically not been given so many opportunities
- 18:20Speaker 2: in sport as boys, so they're a big target group
- 18:23Speaker 2: for us as well. I think you'll see with a
- 18:27Speaker 2: lot of sports at the moment there's a big push
- 18:29Speaker 2: for girls to get involved and take up opportunities to
- 18:32Speaker 2: be active. And yeah, this comes in the form of
- 18:36Speaker 2: football for US. We promote programs from the FA and
- 18:40Speaker 2: England Football. We share training with schools to mate again
- 18:46Speaker 2: make sure their lessons are are inclusive, as well as
- 18:51Speaker 2: opening up different clubs to girls and thinking about maybe,
- 18:55Speaker 2: for example, on the playground, could there be one day
- 18:58Speaker 2: of the week where the girls take over the playground
- 19:00Speaker 2: because for a lot of girls, it's been proven that
- 19:03Speaker 2: they would rather spend that time all that activity in
- 19:07Speaker 2: a girl's only environment because sometimes if you're playing with
- 19:10Speaker 2: somebody else, typically the boys who are more confident and
- 19:14Speaker 2: you know, stronger tackles they're faster, they're stronger. It can
- 19:17Speaker 2: be quite intimidating for the girls. So those girls only
- 19:20Speaker 2: spaces for sport are really important. And say, the girls
- 19:24Speaker 2: partnership is one of the ways we're trying to support.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That something you never think about it. You think that
- 19:29Speaker 1: just all the kids go out and have a good
- 19:30Speaker 1: run around, but you don't think that the girls might
- 19:32Speaker 1: be intimidated by the boys. We're there even intentionally meaning
- 19:36Speaker 1: to completely. Yeah, so the communication with the parents, you
- 19:41Speaker 1: have to go. You must spend a lot of time
- 19:43Speaker 1: right into schools and then hoping that they will forward
- 19:45Speaker 1: the information onto the parents. Is that right?
- 19:48Speaker 2: Most of it's done in school, but obviously wherever the
- 19:52Speaker 2: inclusive messages can get out, we're absolutely for it. And
- 19:56Speaker 2: schools do need support from parents to take children out
- 19:59Speaker 2: to events and permissions and things.
- 20:01Speaker 1: So yeah, okay, so times running away with us. So Sarah,
- 20:05Speaker 1: before we go, is there anything else either about the
- 20:08Speaker 1: Sports Trust or your schools activities that we've missed.
- 20:12Speaker 2: There's a whole army out there of girls football leaders
- 20:14Speaker 2: from all over Kent. They came into their training with
- 20:17Speaker 2: us on the go Lead program. Recently we trained over
- 20:21Speaker 2: We've trained around one hundred girls from secondary schools to
- 20:24Speaker 2: come and referee, coach and promote the women and girls games.
- 20:28Speaker 2: So look out for them.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, so there's something girls well. I suppose the circles
- 20:32Speaker 1: that we move in perhaps sometimes outside of the schools,
- 20:35Speaker 1: we don't really hear about it. I mean some of
- 20:38Speaker 1: this stuff is new to me. But it's great news
- 20:40Speaker 1: as well, the fact that you're targeting a young audience
- 20:43Speaker 1: and if you like, getting them young, getting their interests young,
- 20:46Speaker 1: and you're doing a fantastic job. So right, so we
- 20:50Speaker 1: need some just some contact information. I'm hoping that people
- 20:53Speaker 1: out there have been listening and thinking well and I
- 20:56Speaker 1: need to find out a bit more about this.
- 20:57Speaker 2: So yeah, we got absolutely So you can contact me
- 21:00Speaker 2: directly on email, sgo at the Sports Trust dot org,
- 21:04Speaker 2: or you can look on the Sports Trust or the
- 21:07Speaker 2: folks in school game Socials on Facebook, Instagram and X Well.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Sarah, thank you so much. It's been a while since
- 21:14Speaker 1: you've come in and you've obviously been busy. You're doing
- 21:17Speaker 1: a great job out there in the community and I
- 21:19Speaker 1: think you demand you don't demand much, You just want
- 21:23Speaker 1: the respect and you want to get the word of
- 21:27Speaker 1: sport out there just suit everybody at a young age.
- 21:29Speaker 1: That's about right, isn't it.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, Thanks Kevin.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Okay, thanks Sarah. Right, okay, So we've got a track
- 21:34Speaker 1: now this is from a one direction. I'm got fire
- 21:38Speaker 1: for one direction ten years ago, drag me down. That
- 21:52Speaker 1: was cool, right. So some football going to do some
- 21:55Speaker 1: local football. So last week being Easter weekend, meant a
- 21:59Speaker 1: double of local football. So let's start with folks and
- 22:02Speaker 1: in Victor. On Good Friday, they traveled away to biller
- 22:05Speaker 1: Ricky Town who are top of the table on goal difference.
- 22:08Speaker 1: In fact, there are three teams of just one game
- 22:11Speaker 1: left and they're all on equal points. That's biller Ricky,
- 22:14Speaker 1: Horshammer Dartford, so that's going to be a really dramatic finale.
- 22:19Speaker 1: In Victor played well against biller Ricky but unfortunately lost
- 22:22Speaker 1: to Neil On Easter Monday at home for the last
- 22:26Speaker 1: ever game on the grass pitch as they rip it
- 22:28Speaker 1: up and laid down the three G pitch, they beat
- 22:32Speaker 1: Lewis two to one and on this Saturday, the final
- 22:36Speaker 1: game of the season is away against Cray Valley, who
- 22:39Speaker 1: will guarantee the playoff place as they are in fourth position,
- 22:43Speaker 1: so not a great deal to play for really, But
- 22:46Speaker 1: it has been a long, funny old season. But I'm
- 22:49Speaker 1: sure next season in Victor will be totally different Hive Town.
- 22:53Speaker 1: On Good Friday, Hi we're beaten four nill at home
- 22:56Speaker 1: against Ramsgate who were confirmed as champions in front of
- 23:00Speaker 1: one two hundred and twenty six spectators. Then on Monday
- 23:04Speaker 1: it was an eight goal thriller against Ashvid United. Unfortunately
- 23:07Speaker 1: I I have lost by five goals to three. On Saturday,
- 23:11Speaker 1: their last game is at home to Beckenham Or in
- 23:13Speaker 1: sixth place, so they haven't got any chance of the playoffs,
- 23:16Speaker 1: so once again not much to play for there now.
- 23:19Speaker 1: This will be a shame for HIE as they say
- 23:21Speaker 1: goodbye to the Isthmian Southeast League as they're relegated and
- 23:25Speaker 1: hello to the Southern Counties East Football League locally known
- 23:29Speaker 1: as the Skeffold League. So I really do hope they
- 23:32Speaker 1: bounced straight back now. Last Saturday in the Kent County
- 23:35Speaker 1: Premier League, New Romney beat fleet Down United two to one,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but Hawkins lost three to two to Borden Village. On
- 23:42Speaker 1: Easter Monday, Hawkins suffered another defeat, losing four to one
- 23:45Speaker 1: to metro Gas. Our New Romney suffered an uncharacteristic defeat.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Actually they lost one nil to Guru Nanak, but they
- 23:53Speaker 1: stayed seven points clear at the top of the table.
- 23:57Speaker 1: The Saturday Hawkins are at home to Snodland Town and
- 24:00Speaker 1: Low Romney are away to Peckham Town. And finally a
- 24:03Speaker 1: bit of a footy, a local footy trivia if you like.
- 24:06Speaker 1: On Easter Monday it was a thanet derby. Ramsgate were
- 24:10Speaker 1: at home to Margate. Now bearing in mind that Ramsgate
- 24:13Speaker 1: had already Wonder League, but Margate were trying to make
- 24:17Speaker 1: sure that they got a playoff place. In front of
- 24:20Speaker 1: three thousand, three hundred fans. Margate beat Ramsgate for one. Now,
- 24:25Speaker 1: what a match that must have been, and what an atmosphere.
- 24:28Speaker 1: You know, they probably have got cheered on the pitch,
- 24:31Speaker 1: Ramsgate because they'd already won the trophy, probably relaxing a
- 24:35Speaker 1: little bit. But then they come up against Margate who
- 24:38Speaker 1: are really going for it, just want to make sure
- 24:40Speaker 1: of that playoff place. But what a game for one
- 24:43Speaker 1: in front of I'll say it again, three thousand, three
- 24:46Speaker 1: hundred fans. Okay, time for us to track now from
- 24:49Speaker 1: the spin doctor. And this is called two Princes. It's
- 25:05Speaker 1: beIN doctors, two Princes. That's a good old punchy track
- 25:13Speaker 1: in it. I like that one. Okay, wheelchair basketball time. Now,
- 25:17Speaker 1: the Folks and Arrows have just got one league game
- 25:20Speaker 1: left on Saturday, when they travel to Chichester to play
- 25:23Speaker 1: the Southern Sharks. Now the Arrows remain unbeaten. They've played eleven,
- 25:28Speaker 1: they've won eleven. Can they go through the whole season unbeaten? Now?
- 25:33Speaker 1: Saturday will be a tough one as the Sharks are
- 25:35Speaker 1: currently second place, just two points behind. But and this
- 25:39Speaker 1: is a big butt. With the scoring system that means
- 25:42Speaker 1: you get two points for a win and one point
- 25:44Speaker 1: even if the Arrows lose, the Sharks cannot catch them.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So I'm pleased to announce that the Folks and Arrows
- 25:50Speaker 1: are champions of the National League Divisions three South, and
- 25:54Speaker 1: all the work that Becky and Ben Potter put in
- 25:58Speaker 1: to that team rewarded by a lifting a trophy and
- 26:03Speaker 1: well done to all the team members. Now, however, the
- 26:06Speaker 1: season doesn't end there, so let me explain. Division three
- 26:10Speaker 1: consists of three different regions. We've got the North, the Central,
- 26:13Speaker 1: and the South. So now the Arrows enter a playoff
- 26:16Speaker 1: system to find out who is the best Division three
- 26:19Speaker 1: team in the country. Now this will include teams as
- 26:22Speaker 1: far away as Scotland, Nottingham, Leicester and Swansea to name
- 26:26Speaker 1: but a few. So exciting a few weeks ahead really,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and as I said earlier, big thanks to Ben and
- 26:32Speaker 1: Becky Potter for updating me and all the information. Well
- 26:35Speaker 1: done to the Arrows for winning the league. So this
- 26:37Speaker 1: song is that it's dedicated to everyone involved with the Arrows.
- 26:41Speaker 1: There's only one a logical choice, to be honest, So
- 26:44Speaker 1: let's have a little listen to Queen and we are
- 26:47Speaker 1: the champions. Time time I've done my sentence. There you go.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You always think he's going to say of the world
- 27:15Speaker 1: at the end. He doesn't anyway. That's for Folks and
- 27:18Speaker 1: arrow as well. Down to you for winning the league
- 27:20Speaker 1: and good luck on Saturday when hopefully you'll go unbeaten
- 27:24Speaker 1: throughout the whole season. Now, last Saturday I popped down
- 27:27Speaker 1: to the Three Hills to watch the folks in the Netball
- 27:29Speaker 1: League Easter Tournament and caught up with last week's guest
- 27:32Speaker 1: of the show, Daniel black Well. It was back to
- 27:35Speaker 1: back games. Are using both courts to the maximum now
- 27:38Speaker 1: due to the number of teams. The games were fast
- 27:40Speaker 1: and furious, last in just five minutes each way. The
- 27:44Speaker 1: weather was kind to the players and it was good
- 27:46Speaker 1: to see the men, yes, the men, the men. They
- 27:48Speaker 1: were allowed three in a team. The men got stuck
- 27:50Speaker 1: in and seemed to be really enjoying themselves. The tournament
- 27:54Speaker 1: raised nearly two hundred pounds, which went towards the Sports Trust.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And as I was saying to Sarah Green, our guests
- 28:01Speaker 1: just now, what a lovely jester that is by the
- 28:04Speaker 1: folks to netball league. And so that was a really
- 28:07Speaker 1: good day for netball. They had thoroughly, really enjoyed it.
- 28:10Speaker 1: You could see that now. Whilst of the Three Hills,
- 28:12Speaker 1: which was packed, I managed to watch some of the hockey.
- 28:16Speaker 1: There was a little hockey tournament going on. There was
- 28:18Speaker 1: paddle tennis. I watched and chatted with Mark Hinton from
- 28:23Speaker 1: the Saints basketball team. He told me the Saints who
- 28:26Speaker 1: completed trips, they just come back from Calais where they
- 28:30Speaker 1: were runners up in an under thirteen's team. They've got
- 28:32Speaker 1: another tournament, I think he said it was wim Row
- 28:35Speaker 1: and they've got one in Germany. And now the Saints
- 28:38Speaker 1: must be the fastest growing sport in Folks and I
- 28:41Speaker 1: can remember in recent years, and they are really really
- 28:45Speaker 1: if you like our grind themselves, they need their own
- 28:48Speaker 1: they would love their own venue. They currently have to
- 28:51Speaker 1: rent out venues at the Three Hills and sometimes they
- 28:56Speaker 1: had a marsh academy, so good luck in that search
- 28:59Speaker 1: for your staff and alone a venue. Then on the
- 29:02Speaker 1: way home, I watched a bit of a Folkston cricket
- 29:05Speaker 1: Folks do on eleven they beat a broad Stairs team
- 29:08Speaker 1: by seven wickets. So all in all it was a
- 29:10Speaker 1: massive day of sport down at the Three Hills and
- 29:13Speaker 1: I'll tell you what it was so nice to see it.
- 29:15Speaker 1: The place was packed right now. This is a song
- 29:19Speaker 1: by Lamar from two thousand and four. If there's any justice,
- 29:35Speaker 1: Lamar there from two thousand and four, If there's any justice.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Right So we're still packing in the local sport, and
- 29:43Speaker 1: I must tell you about this. This Saturday is a
- 29:46Speaker 1: mammoth day of three hours of sport of music here
- 29:49Speaker 1: on Radio Folkston. The first hour I'll be joining Adydwks
- 29:53Speaker 1: between ten and eleven where a guest will be Ellis Stewart.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Now Elis was a guest last year on the show
- 30:00Speaker 1: before she ran her first ever London Marathon, the first
- 30:03Speaker 1: ever marathon. In fact, she recently run the London Landmarks Half,
- 30:07Speaker 1: so she'll be telling us about that, but she's also
- 30:09Speaker 1: on her way to Wembley. Yes, I mean, how good
- 30:13Speaker 1: is that? Elisi's studying physiotherapy at a Canterbury university and
- 30:17Speaker 1: as a placement position at Wisterablle Town FC. And on Sunday,
- 30:22Speaker 1: the eleventh of May, she will be part of the
- 30:25Speaker 1: backroom team who will be in the FA VARs final
- 30:28Speaker 1: against AFC Whiteleaf from Surrey. So what an experience for
- 30:32Speaker 1: that age. I saw her the other day and she
- 30:35Speaker 1: was so excited about it. Well, then between eleven and
- 30:38Speaker 1: one pm it's a two hour London Marathon special showcase
- 30:41Speaker 1: in Local Athletes. I've got three interviews to play out
- 30:45Speaker 1: from local runners who tick the following boxes. They've never
- 30:48Speaker 1: run a marathon before, they're running London and they are
- 30:51Speaker 1: raising money for a charity. The three athletes concerned are
- 30:56Speaker 1: Carly Morgan running for Asthma and Lung UK. Then call
- 31:00Speaker 1: he is running for the Royal British Legion and Ellie
- 31:02Speaker 1: Curran is running for Young Lives Versus Cancer. So please
- 31:06Speaker 1: tune in and listen to their stories. You know, after
- 31:08Speaker 1: meeting these three really inspirational people, I'm really pleased that
- 31:12Speaker 1: I can spread the word. And if you do miss
- 31:15Speaker 1: the stories, because a lot of them will be themselves
- 31:17Speaker 1: up at the London Marathon, don't worry. I will podcast
- 31:20Speaker 1: the interviews so for everyone to share. And you just
- 31:26Speaker 1: there are so many brave people out there. Anyway. We
- 31:28Speaker 1: have a long old chat about that on Saturday morning.
- 31:31Speaker 1: But I've also been joined in the studio by three
- 31:34Speaker 1: very experienced marathoners. All I wanted to do was get
- 31:37Speaker 1: kind of two sides of the coin, you know, And
- 31:40Speaker 1: so I'm going to be joined by a husband and
- 31:41Speaker 1: wife team, Clive and Pam Allen and Marie Brazier, and
- 31:45Speaker 1: I hope to squeeze in a roll of honor of
- 31:48Speaker 1: local athletes who are run in London or Manchester Marathon,
- 31:51Speaker 1: which is also on Sunday. Okay music, now we cram
- 31:55Speaker 1: another song in. This is Michael Jackson Black or White
- 32:00Speaker 1: Schoolboy era at Sophiellis Bexter and catch you on your
- 32:05Speaker 1: key chain in the coffeesoom. So that was Sophielic ls
- 32:14Speaker 1: ab Extat. Sorry I got that round the wrong way there.
- 32:18Speaker 1: So we're just going to fade Sophie out because I
- 32:21Speaker 1: just just so much to pack in a bit of
- 32:23Speaker 1: cricket news now, believe you or not. Now, I mentioned
- 32:26Speaker 1: earlier Folks that were playing Broadstairs in a preseason friendly,
- 32:29Speaker 1: so I need to see. I decided to see if
- 32:31Speaker 1: any other clubs were started by visiting the informative play
- 32:35Speaker 1: Cricket website. Now discovered that the Folks do and thirty
- 32:39Speaker 1: eleven beat Hide Thirst eleven by five wickets. Hawk, can
- 32:43Speaker 1: you play their first friendly on Saturday at home to
- 32:45Speaker 1: the Folkston third eleven? I have welcome Oakfield Warriors who
- 32:49Speaker 1: will travel down from Swanskam in North Kent. I have
- 32:52Speaker 1: Green lost at Eland Valley by six wickets and then
- 32:55Speaker 1: on Sunday the Sunday eleven are away to Saint Margaret's Cosmopolitan.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So what would be at home on Saturday to Betshanger,
- 33:03Speaker 1: Colliery Welfare and Sipton Park are also at home where
- 33:07Speaker 1: they take on a Folks then second eleven. So does
- 33:10Speaker 1: this mean summer's on its way? Well, less hope. So
- 33:13Speaker 1: I should be keeping a close eye on the play
- 33:15Speaker 1: Cricket website and bring your results and fixtures as I
- 33:18Speaker 1: get them, and so well that's about it from me.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I've just got to say that on the Thursday show
- 33:27Speaker 1: is possibly I'll be gone for three or four weeks.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I'll be in Cyprus a Sunday myself, I hope, but
- 33:33Speaker 1: I'll be back on Saturday, joining eighty DWKS between ten
- 33:36Speaker 1: and eleven, and then i'll be bringing you the two
- 33:38Speaker 1: hour London Marathon show, which includes the interviews as I've
- 33:41Speaker 1: told you about and guests coming in. So what could
- 33:44Speaker 1: possibly go wrong? Okay, We're going to finish out off
- 33:47Speaker 1: with Michael Jackson and we won't get him all in
- 33:49Speaker 1: because I've been chatting too much. So I'll see you
- 33:52Speaker 1: on Saturday. But no
