- 0:04Speaker 1: So it's cold in many parts of the country. It
- 0:08Speaker 1: makes people think about baseball season. Yes, AJ is bundled
- 0:12Speaker 1: up a j Are you excited for spring training thinking
- 0:16Speaker 1: none of it's cold?
- 0:18Speaker 2: None of it's cold. I'm not he's at spring training.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Have you guys heard about the global phenomenon global cooling?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Okay, continue, go ahead.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I don't know was going to play me some entrance music, but.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It was it was it was. I pulled up the
- 0:40Speaker 2: Foul Territory on YouTube and it was music I forgot.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I was watching my son scrimmage and I had the
- 0:45Speaker 2: volume on, so I apologize when YouTube.
- 0:49Speaker 3: So I just don't remember it being this cold in Florida.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So global cool Sunday. Sunday is like supposed to be
- 0:57Speaker 2: like the coldest day ever in Florida. It's gonna be
- 0:59Speaker 2: like a in Orlando. Of like are not a high,
- 1:01Speaker 2: but it gets down to like twenty, which we are
- 1:04Speaker 2: not equipped for down here. By the way, if anyone
- 1:07Speaker 2: that wants to move from Florida from anywhere above Florida,
- 1:10Speaker 2: north of Florida gets really cold down here, so don't
- 1:13Speaker 2: don't do it. Just don't move down here. Okay, it
- 1:15Speaker 2: gets really like in August. It's so hot, and the
- 1:18Speaker 2: mosquitoes are like this big. These are the mosquitos flying
- 1:21Speaker 2: around this big like this, and then they land on
- 1:24Speaker 2: you and they're so big and they attack you. So
- 1:27Speaker 2: you don't want to come in the summer. And then
- 1:28Speaker 2: the winter is freezing, so don't come here either.
- 1:32Speaker 1: But the mosquitoes don't tax you. They tax you blood
- 1:35Speaker 1: instead of money. So if you're okay to give blood
- 1:38Speaker 1: and not money, then go to Florida.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Stating seasons.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'll take my four seasons and I'll visit Florida. I'll
- 1:46Speaker 4: enjoy it, and I'll enjoy watching you guys sweat like
- 1:51Speaker 4: Jose Alvarado in a drug test.
- 1:54Speaker 3: You have a lot of new options for that.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Albarado, Kepler sir Velli was the classic, but there are
- 2:00Speaker 1: some new ones.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Profar gts thrown in there.
- 2:03Speaker 1: All right, let's charge, let's charge about.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Hey.
- 2:09Speaker 1: There's an article by Chris Kirshner, who covers the Yankees
- 2:12Speaker 1: for The Athletic, about the team running back essentially the
- 2:16Speaker 1: same roster, and one of the quotes that was picked
- 2:19Speaker 1: out in his hype of the story was from Aaron Boone.
- 2:22Speaker 1: He said, I've been openly willing to challenge anybody that
- 2:26Speaker 1: we don't have a championship caliber roster and team. Actually,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I think some people would probably look at that tweet
- 2:33Speaker 1: real quick and be like, wait, the Yankees don't think
- 2:35Speaker 1: they have a championship caliber roster and team.
- 2:39Speaker 3: He's saying, I challenge you if you do.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Not think we have a championship caliber roster and team.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Actually that was Cashman with that quote, but he said,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'm not afraid to run with the talented roster of
- 2:50Speaker 1: players that we do have. It's a different year. We're
- 2:53Speaker 1: looking for a different result, meaning a little better result.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Stay tuned to see where it takes us. You've heard
- 2:57Speaker 1: me say many times it doesn't matter what we say,
- 3:00Speaker 1: it matters.
- 3:01Speaker 3: What we do. All that is true, a j.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I think I'm pretty vocal on this show about not
- 3:07Speaker 1: running the same thing back. I haven't pointed to the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yankees on this one. I've been more on the Phillies
- 3:12Speaker 1: over the last few years, and I think I've been right.
- 3:15Speaker 1: What do you think about the Yankees running the same
- 3:17Speaker 1: team back that got smacked by the Blue Jays and
- 3:20Speaker 1: the DS.
- 3:21Speaker 2: It's a little different. They don't have Devin Williams, they
- 3:23Speaker 2: don't have Luke Weaver, so there's some difference. Are getting
- 3:26Speaker 2: Garrett Cole back. I mean, offensively, it's very similar to
- 3:29Speaker 2: that team. But if Garrett Cole comes back or don
- 3:32Speaker 2: comes back healthy. They added Ryan Weathers can he'll have
- 3:35Speaker 2: a good offseason in a full season. They have a
- 3:37Speaker 2: full year of Schlitler. Max Freed was great for him
- 3:40Speaker 2: last year. I mean, that's not exactly the same team,
- 3:44Speaker 2: So I don't know if I totally agree with that. Offensively, yes,
- 3:47Speaker 2: so far it is the same team. So we'll see
- 3:50Speaker 2: if they can stay healthy and get better in certain places.
- 3:53Speaker 2: But I mean, I don't know if this is this
- 3:56Speaker 2: has much ado about nothing for me, because they were
- 3:58Speaker 2: pretty good last year. They tie the Blue Jays, you know,
- 4:02Speaker 2: for the most wins in the American League Geese, and
- 4:04Speaker 2: so I don't know. I mean, we'll see a full
- 4:07Speaker 2: year of ben Rice Cabiro, not Volpi at shortstop. Justism
- 4:12Speaker 2: had a nice year. Can Stanton stay healthy? What does
- 4:14Speaker 2: Grisham do? Seam wasn't terrible. I don't know. We'll see.
- 4:18Speaker 2: We'll see. It's not terrible team. I think they're pretty good.
- 4:21Speaker 2: They have a chance. All they gotta do is get
- 4:22Speaker 2: in right.
- 4:24Speaker 4: I mean, everybody's projections are all based on the numbers
- 4:28Speaker 4: that you're able to manipulate.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Blah blah blah.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I think weighted runs created is a fair way of
- 4:35Speaker 4: evaluating a team's offense. It is just it's one of
- 4:40Speaker 4: the ways you can do ops plus. But it's different
- 4:42Speaker 4: when it's a whole team. All that stuff, and that's
- 4:45Speaker 4: all we have to go on right now. And they
- 4:47Speaker 4: were number one in the league last year. There's no
- 4:51Speaker 4: reason to say they're gonna have a regression this year
- 4:54Speaker 4: because Aaron Judge is a year older, Ben Rice is
- 4:57Speaker 4: a year older, Stanton's a year old. Yes, I get it,
- 5:01Speaker 4: like all those things. While did everybody just have a
- 5:03Speaker 4: career year, I choose to believe not everybody just had
- 5:06Speaker 4: a career year. But Grisham was up, Jazz Chisholm was up,
- 5:10Speaker 4: Cody Bellinger had one of his good years. Again, does
- 5:15Speaker 4: he decline for a year like he's been like year
- 5:18Speaker 4: one year off kind of thing?
- 5:20Speaker 2: No.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I think the collection of the entire team together, while
- 5:23Speaker 4: they are probably too left handed, I would say it's
- 5:27Speaker 4: probably fine in Yankee Stadium because everyone says, oh, lefties
- 5:30Speaker 4: play well in Yankee stadium. That's whatever. I don't believe
- 5:34Speaker 4: that that's necessarily the case. That's great just for lefties,
- 5:38Speaker 4: but maybe they're a little susceptible to facing a Red
- 5:41Speaker 4: Sox this year with Crochet and Ranger going back to
- 5:45Speaker 4: back left in two games of a series like these
- 5:49Speaker 4: are all like specific moments. I still think they are
- 5:52Speaker 4: a championship caliber team. They proved it last year. The
- 5:55Speaker 4: issue is.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Can they win in the big moment?
- 5:59Speaker 4: Can Judge have the same type of postseason that he
- 6:02Speaker 4: had last year, Can somebody else step up in the postseason,
- 6:07Speaker 4: or as Scott Brown says about the Phillies, are they
- 6:10Speaker 4: just a regular season team. That's all you can produce.
- 6:13Speaker 4: That's all you can create. You create the best team possible.
- 6:16Speaker 4: And people are gonna say, well, they strike out too much.
- 6:18Speaker 4: If they would have gone out to get a free agent,
- 6:20Speaker 4: or they would have gone out to trade for somebody,
- 6:22Speaker 4: they would have traded for somebody that strikes out and
- 6:24Speaker 4: hits home runs. That is where they're making their bed
- 6:29Speaker 4: and it's proven that it creates runs. And that's the
- 6:33Speaker 4: point of baseball. To diminish the other team from scoring
- 6:36Speaker 4: and to create as many runs as you can possibly create.
- 6:40Speaker 1: But don't you want balance. I'm just playing Devil's advocate here.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Don't you want more? What less strikeouts?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Really? Just less strikeouts. Don't you want to what the
- 6:51Speaker 3: team that did to you?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Did you want wins? That's it can from the Yankees
- 6:57Speaker 2: have had with their offense the last few years. As
- 6:59Speaker 2: they can manufacturer runs, it's home runner nothing, it's home
- 7:02Speaker 2: runner strikeout, home runners strikeout. There's not a lot of
- 7:05Speaker 2: in between. It's literally been home runner strikeout for the
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yankees last few years. That's why the record and extra
- 7:11Speaker 2: innings hasn't been very good right now. When they and
- 7:14Speaker 2: I'll say this, and I mean this with all the
- 7:17Speaker 2: respect in the world, all the respect in the world,
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yankees do a lot of damage off four fifth starters
- 7:23Speaker 2: and they always have. Listen, all the way back. That
- 7:26Speaker 2: was one of the big things when you played the Yankees,
- 7:28Speaker 2: when I first came up two thousand, ninety eight, ninety nine,
- 7:31Speaker 2: two thousand and they had their dynasty going right, it
- 7:35Speaker 2: was man, we got to keep our A starters in
- 7:37Speaker 2: the game and our A relievers because they do a
- 7:40Speaker 2: lot of damage. And that's not a knock on them.
- 7:41Speaker 2: That's how you make your money. In baseball, Okay, nobody
- 7:44Speaker 2: hits the aces, nobody hits the best, right, But the Yankees,
- 7:47Speaker 2: what they've run into in the postseason is high strikeout
- 7:51Speaker 2: guys and guys that can keep them in the park.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And when they've had that, they've run into the problems now.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But I love them to go out and sign somebody.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Absolutely do I think it's going to happen. Probably not,
- 8:01Speaker 2: And that's fine. If they think this roster is good enough,
- 8:04Speaker 2: go get him, Yankees. I think this roster is good.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I don't know that. I'm gonna say it's a great roster.
- 8:10Speaker 2: But they got to figure out a way to cut
- 8:12Speaker 2: down on the strikeouts. If you listen Anthony Volpi, they've
- 8:15Speaker 2: three years now, here's what he is. Unless he cuts
- 8:18Speaker 2: down on his strikeouts and becomes a different player, that's
- 8:21Speaker 2: what he's gonna be. He's gonna hit you twenty, he's
- 8:23Speaker 2: gonna hit two fifteen, steal some basses when he hit singles.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That's it, right. But they unless they change, which are
- 8:30Speaker 2: not because they have the same team, They're gonna be
- 8:33Speaker 2: a high strikeout, high home run, all or nothing kind
- 8:35Speaker 2: of team. And that's it. There's nothing wrong with that.
- 8:37Speaker 2: In today's game.
- 8:39Speaker 4: We had Alex call on the other day, and nobody's
- 8:41Speaker 4: gonna say, well, Yank, you should have picked up Alex Call. No,
- 8:44Speaker 4: the conversation we had about was when he went over
- 8:47Speaker 4: to the Dodgers, they said, we love how you control
- 8:50Speaker 4: the zone. But what's one thing that they want him
- 8:52Speaker 4: to work on when he gets an advantage counts taking
- 8:56Speaker 4: those shots as a hitter. If you want to come
- 8:59Speaker 4: up bait in certain situations and only takes one situation
- 9:02Speaker 4: to come up baby, that can sway an entire series.
- 9:05Speaker 4: You have to be able to have some adjustability. That's
- 9:08Speaker 4: where I think the Cody Bellinger signing is a little
- 9:12Speaker 4: bit under the radar because we'll talk about it later.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Boonie's like, oh, yeah, you know, we'd love his defensive versatility.
- 9:19Speaker 4: He's not afraid to cut down his swing. Judge, I
- 9:21Speaker 4: think has made some adjustments while his strikeout rates have
- 9:25Speaker 4: slowly ticked down, He's made some adjustments to be able
- 9:30Speaker 4: to put the ball in play, to be able to
- 9:32Speaker 4: make contact. But to what detriment that is. Nobody has
- 9:37Speaker 4: any idea. Obviously, it's not a detriment to judge the
- 9:40Speaker 4: reigning MVP, but it is something that as a team
- 9:45Speaker 4: in those big spots, Can Jazz Chishlm stop taking the
- 9:50Speaker 4: exact same swing path if they don't hit his barrel?
- 9:54Speaker 4: Can Trent Grisham cover the outer half of the plate
- 9:59Speaker 4: if they never give in and never come in. Because
- 10:02Speaker 4: in the playoffs, you're going to face the guys that
- 10:06Speaker 4: AJ was saying, You're gonna face one and two in
- 10:08Speaker 4: the rotation.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Some teams maybe three.
- 10:12Speaker 4: But they're getting them out of there real quick, and
- 10:15Speaker 4: then they're going one, two, three in the bullpen the
- 10:18Speaker 4: entire playoffs. So when the Dodgers made the when the
- 10:21Speaker 4: Dodgers made the change where they were like, oh, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 4: they just couldn't get over the hump. They were getting
- 10:27Speaker 4: to the playoffs and they weren't able to make the change.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It was a concerted effort knowing that, you know what,
- 10:34Speaker 4: we may have to go out of the zone a
- 10:35Speaker 4: little bit in the playoffs. We may have to chase
- 10:39Speaker 4: those pitches on the corner out of the zone, meeting
- 10:42Speaker 4: out of their hitting zone and not just wait for
- 10:44Speaker 4: the perfect pitch middle middle, and they can do damage.
- 10:48Speaker 4: And you look at the change that they made, I
- 10:51Speaker 4: mean at the end of at the end of the
- 10:53Speaker 4: twenty twenty four season, we were like, can the Dodgers
- 10:55Speaker 4: get it done? Now we're looking at back to back
- 10:58Speaker 4: and I think the Yankees have the talent, not Dodgers talent,
- 11:02Speaker 4: but they definitely have the talent to be a championship
- 11:05Speaker 4: caliber team.
- 11:07Speaker 2: By the way, Aaron Judge Scott led, I'm at one point,
- 11:11Speaker 2: this was late in the year. He had the most
- 11:12Speaker 2: swinging miss miss is in all of Major League Baseball.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But his strikeouts have gone down because he walks more. Right,
- 11:20Speaker 2: But he still swings and misses, but when he hits
- 11:22Speaker 2: the ball, he does so much damage. Like if you
- 11:25Speaker 2: have that guy, fine, right, let he won a batting title, right,
- 11:29Speaker 2: I mean he hit I don't know, fifty homers, whatever
- 11:31Speaker 2: he did. You know he had an unbelievable year. Right,
- 11:34Speaker 2: he still swings and misses. That's fine. But now what
- 11:36Speaker 2: I think, and we noticed it in the postseason, he
- 11:39Speaker 2: has the ability now to change his swing a little
- 11:41Speaker 2: bit and put the ball in play, which is what
- 11:43Speaker 2: you need. Listen, It's fine to have homer, homer, homer,
- 11:45Speaker 2: but you got to have what you said about Cody Bellingerkratz,
- 11:48Speaker 2: a guy that can manipulate his swing in his path
- 11:50Speaker 2: and when you need to, Hey, I got to put
- 11:52Speaker 2: the ball in play here with the runner on third
- 11:53Speaker 2: and one out, Boom, I hit a ground ball to
- 11:55Speaker 2: short drive in that run. We move on. We got
- 11:58Speaker 2: to run.
- 12:02Speaker 1: The beating up on the fourth and fifth starter. Thing
- 12:04Speaker 1: is great, it creates more wins.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's what you should do.
- 12:08Speaker 2: It's what good teams do. It's actually what great teams do.
- 12:10Speaker 2: It's what the Dodgers do. It's all the listen, nobody.
- 12:14Speaker 2: When you face Trek Scooble, when you face Paul Skiings,
- 12:17Speaker 2: when you face you know, Garrett Cole at his prime,
- 12:19Speaker 2: When you face these number ones, you're like, Okay, we
- 12:22Speaker 2: need our picture to pitch really well because we might
- 12:24Speaker 2: get one, maybe two if we're lucky, and if he
- 12:27Speaker 2: has a terrible night, we're gonna get I don't know,
- 12:30Speaker 2: three or four, baby, right, but you need your guy
- 12:33Speaker 2: to lock them down. Now. When you face the guys,
- 12:35Speaker 2: the guys with the four and a half just five
- 12:37Speaker 2: and a half era, those are the guys who gotta
- 12:39Speaker 2: do damage too, and the good teams do it. They
- 12:43Speaker 2: take advantage of. We used to call it the underbelly
- 12:45Speaker 2: of a team, right, those middle leavers that aren't the
- 12:48Speaker 2: late guys, but they're not the starters. They're the kind
- 12:50Speaker 2: of the underbelly weed to say, if we can get
- 12:52Speaker 2: to the underbelly, we can do damage. Easier said than done,
- 12:56Speaker 2: but that's what the great teams do. Wait j there,
- 12:59Speaker 2: But how do you get to those How do you
- 13:02Speaker 2: get to the early You get to start out early
- 13:05Speaker 2: usually or and then it also compiles too. You have
- 13:08Speaker 2: to understand, like if you get to start early in
- 13:11Speaker 2: the series, then they got to go to guys in
- 13:13Speaker 2: different times, and then by the time if you're playing,
- 13:15Speaker 2: especially if you're playing a seven game series, by the
- 13:17Speaker 2: time you get to games three and four, yes, I
- 13:19Speaker 2: know there's an off day, but you're gonna guys start
- 13:21Speaker 2: wearing down. And we've we've seen it over the last
- 13:23Speaker 2: few years. Guys wear down.
- 13:27Speaker 1: But if you're waiting for your money pitch from an
- 13:29Speaker 1: elite starter, it might never happen.
- 13:32Speaker 3: And that is the differential.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Your regular season numbers might look exceptional because you are
- 13:37Speaker 1: beating the crap out of the pitchers that you're supposed
- 13:40Speaker 1: to beat up, but it's a very different look when
- 13:43Speaker 1: you're facing an elite starter in a postseason game. I'm
- 13:47Speaker 1: not saying it's just them. There are many other factors
- 13:50Speaker 1: like this with other teams too. But we saw this
- 13:52Speaker 1: with Detroit pretty swing and miss team. You saw them firsthand.
- 13:57Speaker 1: AJ They were just waiting for a homer, the most
- 14:00Speaker 1: part right, waiting for it.
- 14:05Speaker 2: But I say to Hinch at the at the award
- 14:07Speaker 2: show we did last weekend, I was like, you know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: because we had them on in winter meetings, I said
- 14:12Speaker 2: over it, and He's like, yeah, you know, I'm getting there.
- 14:15Speaker 2: We're about to go turn the page at spring training.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And I just said, if y'all just could have got
- 14:20Speaker 2: one hit, one ball in play, just anywhere in that
- 14:23Speaker 2: fifteen inning game, you guys move on and play the
- 14:26Speaker 2: and play the Blue Jays, but you never, like I
- 14:28Speaker 2: think at one point they had first and third and
- 14:30Speaker 2: nobody out and Bias hit a week round ball to
- 14:33Speaker 2: third and the Mariners got out of that inning, right,
- 14:36Speaker 2: But if you could have just had anybody one through
- 14:38Speaker 2: night other than Kerry Carpenter in that game, because everybody
- 14:40Speaker 2: else was out except Kerry Carbon who, by the way,
- 14:43Speaker 2: owns George Kirby to an extent of I don't know
- 14:45Speaker 2: if I've ever seen anybody own somebody like that, but
- 14:48Speaker 2: anybody else in that team, if they just could have
- 14:50Speaker 2: put the ball in place somewhere and done anything, you know,
- 14:53Speaker 2: small ball, bunt, whatever it takes. I don't know, it
- 14:55Speaker 2: could have been a different series. But you know what,
- 14:57Speaker 2: the Yankees love their team. And you know what, if
- 15:00Speaker 2: you don't go into spring training and say I love
- 15:01Speaker 2: our team, especially a team like the Yankees, then you're
- 15:05Speaker 2: doing some wrong. So I give him kudos for saying it.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yep, I was thinking the postseason, you need you need
- 15:11Speaker 1: a contact guy, right even I mean, you want contact
- 15:15Speaker 1: and slug. But the Blue Jays had a contact guy
- 15:17Speaker 1: who went off for almost the entire postseason.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Right, Look at the stats, the stats from the Blue
- 15:24Speaker 4: Jays lineup compared to the stats from the Dodgers lineup
- 15:29Speaker 4: for the World Series.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Who won? That's all that matters. Who ended up winning.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just saying in prior rounds it stood out
- 15:40Speaker 1: for them. So maybe Luisa Rich signs with the Tigers
- 15:44Speaker 1: so they don't run into that problem again.
- 15:46Speaker 3: One guy plus, what.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Where's he gonna play?
- 15:50Speaker 3: D H.
- 15:52Speaker 2: No torkleson?
- 15:56Speaker 3: Okay, fine, all right, we're back.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Let's go over some bed MGM futures and we'll spin
- 16:08Speaker 1: the wheel and we will land on and over under
- 16:11Speaker 1: and Crats, I bet it's going to be in the
- 16:13Speaker 1: mid eighties.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Oh it is.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It's the Brewers eighty four and a half wins. They
- 16:18Speaker 1: had ninety seven wins last year. AJ, do you think
- 16:21Speaker 1: they're going to drop off by twelve games?
- 16:24Speaker 3: Even if they do, you'd still hit on your over.
- 16:26Speaker 3: What about thirteen games?
- 16:29Speaker 2: You know why they did this. They did this because
- 16:31Speaker 2: we have this conversation all the time about the Brewers.
- 16:34Speaker 2: So normally I would say under, just because you know
- 16:36Speaker 2: they're due for a falloff. They're due. They've traded Freddy Peralta,
- 16:40Speaker 2: They've lost this, they've lost that. But you know what's screwing.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I'm going over because they go over every year. So
- 16:45Speaker 2: I'm just gonna say over just to make Crats happy,
- 16:48Speaker 2: even though I really think they are due to maybe
- 16:50Speaker 2: fall off a little bit. I love Murph, I love
- 16:52Speaker 2: everything about Matt Arnold. I love the Brewers organization and
- 16:55Speaker 2: the way they do things. I just I'm going over
- 16:59Speaker 2: just because I don't want to hear from Brewer fans
- 17:01Speaker 2: when they do it again.
- 17:03Speaker 4: It's a much easier over now because it was I
- 17:07Speaker 4: think at eighty six and a half or even eighty
- 17:09Speaker 4: seven before they traded Freddy Peralta, so they believed in it.
- 17:15Speaker 4: I don't think Freddy Peralta is a three win pitcher.
- 17:18Speaker 4: I think it's it's not direct correlation if you would
- 17:22Speaker 4: have said maybe one or two. So I'm still believing
- 17:24Speaker 4: in the over and that's not Homer in me because
- 17:28Speaker 4: I'm gonna make a bold statement and say they might
- 17:30Speaker 4: not make the playoffs, but I think they will be
- 17:32Speaker 4: over eighty four wins.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Really, so you think they'll win eighty five or eighty six,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I mean, once you start getting too the high eighties,
- 17:40Speaker 1: you're pretty much a lock.
- 17:41Speaker 4: These days, I think I think they're right at the
- 17:43Speaker 4: eighty six eighty seven where they originally had them, because
- 17:46Speaker 4: I think it's a lot of not saying this about Freddy.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I think a lot of their value from pitching is
- 17:52Speaker 4: found in the fact that they have good pitchers, but
- 17:55Speaker 4: that their defense really really does a good job of
- 17:58Speaker 4: optimizing the most outs above average at different positions than
- 18:03Speaker 4: other teams do without having that, Like Nolan Aeronado person
- 18:08Speaker 4: I get it. Bryce Bryce drang is legitimately a short
- 18:11Speaker 4: stop playing second base, and there's a lot of value
- 18:14Speaker 4: saw that with the Guardians. They found a lot of
- 18:16Speaker 4: value in Andre Semenez playing second base for years now.
- 18:19Speaker 4: He's gonna play shortstop for the Blue Jays. So's there's
- 18:23Speaker 4: different things that the Brewers do that I think helps
- 18:26Speaker 4: their pitching. And I still think that's just how you win.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Base running and defense are core aspects to being able
- 18:33Speaker 4: to win games, besides hitting home runs and pitchers striking
- 18:37Speaker 4: everybody out.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Eighty three wins got you a playoff spot last year.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I'm just saying that it looks different. I think eighty six.
- 18:49Speaker 4: I think there's a chance eighty six doesn't get you in. Okay,
- 18:55Speaker 4: the teams at the top. The teams at the top
- 18:57Speaker 4: have improved and middle tier teams I think have gone lower.
- 19:03Speaker 4: So I think there's gonna be a disparaging difference, and
- 19:06Speaker 4: there could be a there could be a chance that
- 19:08Speaker 4: you don't have that collapse like the Mets had and
- 19:11Speaker 4: the Reds get in.
- 19:14Speaker 1: We've had so many over unders, we've gone over in
- 19:16Speaker 1: the mid eighties. Are we hitting enough unders.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Well? The teams you've you've given us so far have
- 19:24Speaker 2: all been good teams. Give me the Marlins give me
- 19:27Speaker 2: the team under on. Give me some teams I can
- 19:32Speaker 2: go under on, I'll go I'm happy to go under.
- 19:35Speaker 3: We're gonna start digging for unders for you.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Okay, I mean that's give me the White Sox eighty five,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'll go under.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Well, no, not at the mid eighties.
- 19:43Speaker 2: We're just you said, they're all mid eighties. Give the
- 19:47Speaker 2: under on, Scott.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I'm just saying on the mid eighties team, the legit
- 19:52Speaker 1: mid eighties teams that are placed that MGMs.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Aren't gonna win eighty five games. But I'm saying over
- 19:57Speaker 2: just so fansy me alone.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Well, that's not how the game works.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I think that's pretty much how you play the game.
- 20:07Speaker 2: That is playing the game.
- 20:09Speaker 3: That is playing the game, but that's not really playing
- 20:11Speaker 3: the game.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I mean, you're not throwing cash down on the Brewers
- 20:14Speaker 1: to win eighty five games, are you?
- 20:16Speaker 2: How do you know? I'm not telling you what I
- 20:18Speaker 2: do with my money. It's then your business. I don't
- 20:20Speaker 2: care what you do with your money.
- 20:22Speaker 1: That's what we do this segment every day.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I just said, and I just said, I just said, I.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Think it's safe to say this a j since we've
- 20:33Speaker 1: disagreed on everything today.
- 20:37Speaker 2: You have bad opinions. You know what they do that.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Sure disagree on that, but I would say when we
- 20:44Speaker 1: pick our three or five locks heading into the season,
- 20:48Speaker 1: and we usually pick regular season win totals, could be
- 20:52Speaker 1: playoff appearances, whatever, right, we've done that, it's safe to.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Say that the Brewers will not be on your list.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Either way. This is not a high confidence.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Power for you. No, this is a very low confidence Yeah.
- 21:05Speaker 1: See, I just want to make sure we keep doing
- 21:07Speaker 1: that because we go over so many futures, and the
- 21:10Speaker 1: key is we are not placing bets on every future.
- 21:14Speaker 1: We are telling you which one we really like and why,
- 21:17Speaker 1: or if it's close, we're telling you why. So maybe
- 21:20Speaker 1: you feel really good about a team and then we
- 21:22Speaker 1: feel okay, and then you feel better about that pick,
- 21:25Speaker 1: or we both feel great about something which rarely happens
- 21:28Speaker 1: these days, and then.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Feel a little bit more comfortable that way.
- 21:32Speaker 1: My point is, Kratz, I think I've done this with
- 21:34Speaker 1: at least half of our over unders. I don't love them,
- 21:39Speaker 1: and you leave them alone. You just pick a few
- 21:41Speaker 1: that you like and then you follow those. It's almost
- 21:42Speaker 1: like a fantasy baseball team that you put together for
- 21:45Speaker 1: the year. Right, you've got your favorite team, and then
- 21:47Speaker 1: for me, I enjoy this aspect. I'll pick a few
- 21:50Speaker 1: horses and I try and usually do. If I'm doing three,
- 21:53Speaker 1: which is my average on this, I'll take two overs
- 21:56Speaker 1: and an under, and then I follow it all year
- 22:00Speaker 1: like a horse race.
- 22:05Speaker 3: That's all I have.
- 22:06Speaker 2: What's your over? What's your vector? Victor, I'm not.
- 22:13Speaker 3: But I am usually the guy.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I picked the bruis to when the division last year,
- 22:19Speaker 1: and I yes, yes.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I did last week.
- 22:25Speaker 2: No, I picked the Reds.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Last year, you picked the Reds. I picked the Brewers.
- 22:29Speaker 3: And my reason why I.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Had I don't remember if I had the Cubs or
- 22:32Speaker 1: the red I think I had the Cubs. And last second,
- 22:34Speaker 1: when we actually submitted our picks, I went Brewers and
- 22:37Speaker 1: my explanation was, I don't see it, but they're going
- 22:40Speaker 1: to do it.
- 22:42Speaker 2: See that's confident.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Thank you. But I had to.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I just I felt like somehow they were still going
- 22:48Speaker 1: to pull it off. I guess the only thing I
- 22:50Speaker 1: was looking at was is this division that good? And
- 22:53Speaker 1: I think last year we learned not really, I mean
- 22:57Speaker 1: it was okay. The Brewers were great, and then the
- 22:59Speaker 1: rest of the teams were either okay or terrible? Is
- 23:04Speaker 1: the division that much better? The Cubs are better, for sure.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I like the offseason they've had. I think they're going
- 23:09Speaker 1: to be a real threat. You lose Freddy P. You
- 23:10Speaker 1: add Edward Cabrera. I'm saying the brewis lose Freddie P.
- 23:14Speaker 1: You add Edward Cabrera, You remade your bullpen that was
- 23:17Speaker 1: already pretty good. But I think that they made some
- 23:20Speaker 1: pretty serious additions that will help them. And then of
- 23:23Speaker 1: course the Alex Bragman signing. The Cubs should be a
- 23:25Speaker 1: better team this coming season. Pirates should be a little
- 23:29Speaker 1: bit better.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Red's probably better.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I don't know better.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Cardinals are going to be way worse.
- 23:38Speaker 2: I just don't listen. I think the Brewers are great.
- 23:41Speaker 2: We love Pat Murphy. I just don't know that they
- 23:43Speaker 2: win ninety seven games again.
- 23:46Speaker 1: No no chance. I mean, I'm taking the under on
- 23:48Speaker 1: that one, but eighty four and a half to ninety seven,
- 23:53Speaker 1: it's a big gap. I think I would not be
- 23:58Speaker 1: surprised if they went in the high eighties. I don't
- 24:01Speaker 1: think most people would be surprised. Brandon Woods might.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Here's the thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they win
- 24:06Speaker 2: in the high eighties. I wouldn't be surprised if they
- 24:08Speaker 2: go five hundred.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Me too, that's where they stand.
- 24:11Speaker 2: That's what a swing that they could have. Let's say
- 24:15Speaker 2: they lose somebody to injury. God forbid, they lose somebody,
- 24:19Speaker 2: and I know, you know, Churio or yell at your
- 24:22Speaker 2: you know, whoever you wanted, Wilson, William Contrere's Wilson, Sorry,
- 24:26Speaker 2: William Contrera's. They lose somebody, that is like they can't
- 24:30Speaker 2: really figure out a way to make up for their loss.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Then you could see him really falling off, but then
- 24:37Speaker 2: you could see everything comes together again. And I'm winning
- 24:40Speaker 2: eighty eight, eighty nine games. So it's a I don't know.
- 24:43Speaker 2: They're the one team that has probably for me, bigger
- 24:45Speaker 2: swings than almost anybody else.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And as crazy as it is, that's only like a
- 24:49Speaker 1: six or seven game swing. Right you're saying, I could
- 24:51Speaker 1: see them being five hundred. That's eighty one wins. We're
- 24:54Speaker 1: talking about. Can they get to eighty seven or eighty
- 24:56Speaker 1: eight wins?
- 25:00Speaker 3: Close?
- 25:00Speaker 1: That's how the game works. Okay, let's tell everybody how
- 25:04Speaker 1: they can do a little damage.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Right now.
- 25:06Speaker 1: If they're not looking at baseball, any sport odds boost
- 25:11Speaker 1: token to use it at a wager made up of
- 25:14Speaker 1: bets from any sport to your bet slit activate the token.
- 25:17Speaker 1: If you win your wager made with the token, you
- 25:19Speaker 1: get extra winnings in unrestricted bonus dollars. Gambling problem or concern,
- 25:23Speaker 1: there's help. Call one eight hundred gambling.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 25:26Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 25:28Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 25:29Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Hey, there was a sit down conversation with Mark de
- 25:37Speaker 1: Rosa and Ken Rosenthal.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Ken asked him about Team USA. What's it looking like.
- 25:43Speaker 1: We'll pick out a few notable parts of the conversation.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Number one.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Ken asked him about the restrictions on pitchers and if
- 25:54Speaker 1: that has changed, and how he's going to handle it.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I remember De ro talking about how he wanted to
- 25:59Speaker 1: handle it differently this time around, because it is very
- 26:02Speaker 1: difficult to coordinate with teams. Team USA has this tougher
- 26:06Speaker 1: than everyone else. For some reason, it is tougher for
- 26:10Speaker 1: teams with American players to let them go. You think
- 26:14Speaker 1: I'm wrong, Crats, We can start there before I even
- 26:16Speaker 1: dive into this. I think it's a tougher conversation when
- 26:20Speaker 1: you are the Dodgers and you're trying to hold back
- 26:22Speaker 1: they're not. But if you're trying to hold back Yamamoto,
- 26:25Speaker 1: it sounds like they might want to hold back Otani
- 26:27Speaker 1: and it's like, sorry, we're playing for Team Japan. I
- 26:30Speaker 1: think for some reason there's a stigma with the USA
- 26:33Speaker 1: team with pitchers.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Do you agree with me aj that it's tougher for
- 26:36Speaker 3: the USA.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Guys, yes than other countries.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Yes, Yes, I agree.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I agree with that they're for.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Some reason, it's like this is my country, and then
- 26:49Speaker 1: for USA it's like it's not that it's not a
- 26:51Speaker 1: USA pride thing, it's just the teams feel more entitled
- 26:55Speaker 1: to say no, so.
- 26:58Speaker 4: They're able to say no because maybe the like I'm
- 27:02Speaker 4: not sure the word I'm looking for, Like there's more
- 27:05Speaker 4: like honor in the Japanese pitchers pitching you're saying, Or
- 27:10Speaker 4: there's more honor in a Dominican pitcher pitching for the
- 27:13Speaker 4: DR Is that what you're saying.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I think it's clearly run by the US.
- 27:21Speaker 1: It's a US event, and for some reason, being that
- 27:24Speaker 1: there's so many players from the States, they just feel
- 27:29Speaker 1: like they can say no to their pitcher not participating.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I think it also steam rolls a j Do you
- 27:36Speaker 3: feel that too, Where it's.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Like we gonna say there's more options for USA, I
- 27:41Speaker 2: feel like and so because they have more options, I
- 27:43Speaker 2: think they're more inclined to say no. Not that not
- 27:47Speaker 2: that it's right or wrong, but I agree. Mark even
- 27:49Speaker 2: wrote this in the chat. There's more players, I ad,
- 27:54Speaker 2: more pitchers available, and I and I think that that's
- 27:57Speaker 2: why teams are a little bit more incin like a well, Schoobo.
- 28:00Speaker 2: If we say no to Schoobl, they can just go
- 28:03Speaker 2: grab somebody else from another organization because there's more options,
- 28:07Speaker 2: whereas Japan doesn't have as many options that we know of.
- 28:10Speaker 2: In the US right, especially in Major League Baseball, Dominican
- 28:14Speaker 2: is all. The Dominican guys are like, I'm going to
- 28:16Speaker 2: play for my team at all costs. Venezuela the same way,
- 28:18Speaker 2: and a lot of Americans feel the same way. It's
- 28:21Speaker 2: just there's more options. I think maybe because we know
- 28:22Speaker 2: their names. I don't want to say that USA has
- 28:25Speaker 2: all more stars than other countries at all, because it's
- 28:28Speaker 2: not true. Shohy Yamamoto, Dominican team has loaded. Venezuelan team
- 28:32Speaker 2: is good. A lot of teams are good. But I
- 28:34Speaker 2: just think that there's more options, especially from the pitching side.
- 28:38Speaker 1: So with all of that being said, when dro Is
- 28:41Speaker 1: asked about the pitching restrictions, he said, it's still going
- 28:45Speaker 1: to be there. That's why I tried to build it
- 28:47Speaker 1: out a little differently so guys had roles. It's also
- 28:49Speaker 1: why we added Clayton Kershaw. You go back to the
- 28:51Speaker 1: Mexico game. Last time around, we got caught. There was
- 28:54Speaker 1: a scenario where Brady Singer had to cover some innings
- 28:56Speaker 1: for us, even though it wasn't optimal for him because
- 28:58Speaker 1: we weren't going to be able to cover the next
- 29:00Speaker 1: next day. And note that Brady Singer, through fifty three
- 29:03Speaker 1: pitches in two innings, gave up four runs in that
- 29:07Speaker 1: Mexico game for Team USA, So that stands out. Do
- 29:11Speaker 1: we have any comments there? Clayton Kershaw clearly has a
- 29:14Speaker 1: role mop up man and he'll crush it.
- 29:15Speaker 3: That's great. Kind of gonna be like.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I don't know, kicking back with a beer, watch the
- 29:21Speaker 1: game and then up you need me. I'll go as
- 29:23Speaker 1: many pitches as you want. There's no tomorrow and there's
- 29:26Speaker 1: no insurance policy.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I love it. It's a great role. It's a great role.
- 29:30Speaker 2: They should do this. Let crowds are I be the
- 29:32Speaker 2: third catcher and you know there's a blowout. Hey, you
- 29:35Speaker 2: guys get to run out there and hang out and
- 29:37Speaker 2: catch a couple of innings, you know, and against some
- 29:40Speaker 2: team that either is winning or losing by a lot.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I mean, I'm in d Ro. Call me, call me.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I'll do it. I'll do it. I'll be your third catcher. Heck,
- 29:48Speaker 2: I might even catch a bullpen. What's a bullpen?
- 29:51Speaker 1: I don't know if he's allowed to call you, but yes,
- 29:53Speaker 1: it would be great.
- 29:57Speaker 4: I honestly think, Like my mind when when I read
- 30:00Speaker 4: this earlier this morning, my mind went to if kers
- 30:04Speaker 4: Shaw wasn't him, who would they have gone to, Like
- 30:08Speaker 4: would they have been like, hey Max, I know you're
- 30:10Speaker 4: not signed with a team yet. Hey Verlander, I know
- 30:13Speaker 4: you're not signed with a team yet, but we'd love
- 30:15Speaker 4: for you to be our.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Mop up guy.
- 30:17Speaker 4: I get it they're still playing this year, but like
- 30:22Speaker 4: this role, I don't know, that's it's tough, you say,
- 30:27Speaker 4: lance Lynn.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yeah, guys like lance Lynn might get a phone call.
- 30:30Speaker 1: If Clayton was a better extention.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Seriously, exception right, they could have pud Rodriguez on Puerto
- 30:37Speaker 2: Rico as a third catcher. Yachty right, I guess Yachty's managing.
- 30:41Speaker 2: He could be player player manager. Dominican could have like
- 30:44Speaker 2: two holes come in to do something. Crats fantasy. It
- 30:49Speaker 2: is why not we woult to. It's not a doesn't
- 30:51Speaker 2: it's not a you know, it's guys aren't getting paid,
- 30:55Speaker 2: like their their livelihood on this. It's it's an exhibition.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I thought, it's like the all start game. You should
- 31:02Speaker 2: do the Golden at bat, try all kinds of crazy stuff.
- 31:05Speaker 4: It's not an exhibition. It's not an exhibition. All the
- 31:08Speaker 4: talk when you put that uniform on, when you play
- 31:11Speaker 4: for Team USA, we are here to win. We are
- 31:14Speaker 4: here to do what it takes to win. And so
- 31:17Speaker 4: this is where I think the WBC, Hey, it's great
- 31:19Speaker 4: for the US. They're able to have Kershall in that role,
- 31:22Speaker 4: and I think that is a very valuable role. WBC
- 31:26Speaker 4: needs to look into like that flexible, more of like
- 31:29Speaker 4: a winner ball type of roster flexibility, just because every
- 31:35Speaker 4: team is going to have these restrictions on pitchers, not
- 31:39Speaker 4: just for Team USA, for other teams, for other countries. Also,
- 31:44Speaker 4: you can't have you don't want somebody throwing fifty four
- 31:47Speaker 4: pitches in two innings. No player would do that. They
- 31:49Speaker 4: even change those rules in spring training where now you
- 31:53Speaker 4: can throw twenty I think it's twenty pitches. You can
- 31:56Speaker 4: come out and then you can come back in and
- 31:58Speaker 4: start it again, like the those are exhibition games. In
- 32:01Speaker 4: my opinion, these are not exhibition games, and you're not
- 32:03Speaker 4: putting a team together as an exhibition type of game.
- 32:08Speaker 2: They don't mean anything. I mean, listen. Do they want
- 32:10Speaker 2: to win, absolutely, but they don't mean anything in the
- 32:13Speaker 2: grand Guys aren't making their livelihood of what they do
- 32:16Speaker 2: off Team USA. Listen, is it awesome? One hundred percent.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I love love, love, love love love the WBC. I
- 32:22Speaker 2: love MLB players in the Olympics. I like all that stuff.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I want all that stuff because playing for your team
- 32:29Speaker 2: your country should matter. But at the end of the day,
- 32:31Speaker 2: when I say exhibition games, I mean, guys aren't getting
- 32:34Speaker 2: their salary from this. These stats don't matter when they
- 32:36Speaker 2: go to arbitration. These aren't you know, the owners of
- 32:39Speaker 2: the teams aren't aren't going like, oh man, I can't
- 32:43Speaker 2: believe that. You know, Trey Turner hit that Grand Slam
- 32:46Speaker 2: against Venezuela in twenty twenty three. Let's pay them five
- 32:49Speaker 2: million dollars extra. Like, No, this is exhibition as in Pride,
- 32:53Speaker 2: just like the All Star Game is an exhibition. You
- 32:55Speaker 2: want to win. But that doesn't mean it's not an
- 32:57Speaker 2: exhibition game. Mm hmmmm.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I think it's looked at as importantly as a playoff game.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Agreed, Mmmm, MLB as an MLB playoff game.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Yes, it's not looked at that by front office.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Okay, like MLB playoff game. Then we should do it
- 33:24Speaker 2: at a different time of the year and run it
- 33:26Speaker 2: where teams have full access to all the pitching. If
- 33:30Speaker 2: you're saying that this is the level of an MLB
- 33:31Speaker 2: playoff game, then let's run this in the middle of
- 33:34Speaker 2: the summer when everybody's hot. This is as close as
- 33:37Speaker 2: you get.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Yeah, this is, but don't trust that.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I mean it.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I'm saying it with my chest.
- 33:44Speaker 1: It's It's as important the players take it as seriously
- 33:47Speaker 1: as a playoff game with their performance. They are not
- 33:50Speaker 1: looking at it like the All Star and the All
- 33:52Speaker 1: Star Game is Funsie, This is not also.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Your can't it affects your Actually, the also game affects
- 34:00Speaker 2: your career more than the WBC does because at the
- 34:04Speaker 2: end of your career, people say he's a seven time
- 34:06Speaker 2: All Star. They don't say he was a three time
- 34:09Speaker 2: WBC player. They say he was a three time All Star.
- 34:15Speaker 2: He was a gold medal winner.
- 34:16Speaker 3: But that's that's regular team.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're talking about the event itself, not the
- 34:24Speaker 1: lead up to it, not getting selected to the event,
- 34:27Speaker 1: the event itself. I think four players means as much
- 34:31Speaker 1: as a postseason game WBC.
- 34:34Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you. Let's do it in the
- 34:37Speaker 1: middle of the season. I'm fine with that. They're going
- 34:39Speaker 1: to try to do that with the Olympics.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Listen, I love the WBC. Nobody loves it more than me.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I love it. I went, I went to a game.
- 34:45Speaker 2: I went to the Venezuela USA game as one of
- 34:47Speaker 2: the best games I've ever been to. I'm not I'm
- 34:49Speaker 2: not saying that to degrade it. I'm just saying, in
- 34:51Speaker 2: the grand scheme of people's career, these games don't mean
- 34:54Speaker 2: the same as a playoff game.
- 34:59Speaker 3: I disagree. I think it means as much as game.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Okay, can you tell me who gave up the home
- 35:04Speaker 2: run to keyk Hernandez this year in the Game seven,
- 35:07Speaker 2: I mean not Key Hernanda. Sorry to uh Mickey Rowe
- 35:10Speaker 2: in Game seven of the World Series.
- 35:13Speaker 1: You're gonna play a game with with with my ass
- 35:16Speaker 1: on calls all day.
- 35:18Speaker 3: I know that it was Jeff Hoffman, but I'm saying
- 35:19Speaker 3: I know what you're about to do.
- 35:20Speaker 1: You're gonna ask me about a specific instance during the
- 35:22Speaker 1: World Baseball Classic from many years ago.
- 35:24Speaker 3: That's not fair, is that what you're doing?
- 35:26Speaker 2: Why? Yeah? Now, who gave up the Grand Slam to
- 35:29Speaker 2: trade Turner for Venezuel?
- 35:30Speaker 3: Who gave up?
- 35:31Speaker 1: Who gave up literally anything in twenty twenty four in
- 35:34Speaker 1: any game of any kind, including World Series, I don't remember.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Show me a postseason that's I gave up a huge
- 35:39Speaker 2: home run twenty twenty four. Go to the postseason. Who
- 35:41Speaker 2: gave up a huge home run? We probably can figure
- 35:43Speaker 2: it out quicker than you can tell me who gave
- 35:46Speaker 2: up the Grand Slam to trade Turner?
- 35:47Speaker 3: Because it wasn't someone good, Nope.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Because it's not as important as the playoffs. It was
- 35:54Speaker 2: a dude that had his jersey completely Convedo, the guy
- 35:58Speaker 2: with the angels in a one button left. Yeah, exactly.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I remember Trout versus Otani as much as any Okay,
- 36:08Speaker 1: since I've been alive.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yes, you remember that, Yes, because it was teammates, the
- 36:12Speaker 2: whole deal. I get that one. And plus it was
- 36:16Speaker 2: the win, that the whole thing that was awesome. I
- 36:18Speaker 2: loved it. I hope it happens again. I hope it
- 36:20Speaker 2: comes up again where I don't know who's pitching, but
- 36:23Speaker 2: teammates are pitching, and Otani's up or trial or not Trout,
- 36:26Speaker 2: but Judge is up and he's facing his teammate with
- 36:29Speaker 2: the w b C on line. I think that stuff
- 36:32Speaker 2: is unbelievable.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Good debate.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Next part, they still have one spot open. I know
- 36:42Speaker 1: many players listen to this show. Now is your chance
- 36:46Speaker 1: to call Mark du Rosa if you have his number.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Ken asked about the last spot. He said who what
- 36:52Speaker 1: do you want? Someone versatile and he said, we're gonna
- 36:54Speaker 1: look at it. I had my eye on Cody Bellinger.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I thought Bellinger would serve a perfect purpose for it,
- 37:00Speaker 1: but him signing with the Yankees, going through everything, he
- 37:02Speaker 1: has decided not to do it.
- 37:04Speaker 3: And I completely understand that. So someone in that vein, Okay.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Someone that can play all over the field for you.
- 37:12Speaker 2: You need somebody that can play multiple positions in case
- 37:15Speaker 2: something happens.
- 37:16Speaker 4: It's not. It's a great idea. Here's the issue. Here's
- 37:20Speaker 4: the issue is Cody Bellinger's up here. That's why he
- 37:25Speaker 4: got the money that he got. Most guys that play
- 37:28Speaker 4: all over the field are down here and they don't
- 37:32Speaker 4: want to go to their trying to like scrap and
- 37:35Speaker 4: call not to make the team, but to like solidify
- 37:38Speaker 4: themselves on the team. Like let's say, like Ernie Clement
- 37:43Speaker 4: type of player. I think Ernie Clement's already on the team.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Am I correct on that?
- 37:50Speaker 2: Uh?
- 37:52Speaker 4: Anyway find out I don't remember, Yeah, to you go
- 37:57Speaker 4: to this and play two of the eight games or
- 38:02Speaker 4: nine games that are played in the WBC, or do
- 38:05Speaker 4: you stay back and play in your spring training games
- 38:08Speaker 4: to get ready for the season. That's the hardest discussion
- 38:12Speaker 4: I think with finding this last player. It has to
- 38:15Speaker 4: be a guy who can handle all these positions. Most
- 38:18Speaker 4: likely it will be a veteran, and most likely Cody
- 38:21Speaker 4: Belger doesn't doesn't need his thirty five to fifty at
- 38:26Speaker 4: bats in spring training. He could he could possibly get
- 38:30Speaker 4: them playing because he's good enough to play every single
- 38:33Speaker 4: day and bounce around all those positions.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Clement is playing cal Brendan Donovan.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Darry have a second basement. Does he want to play sparingly.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Yes?
- 38:48Speaker 4: Four Team USA or does he want to go to
- 38:49Speaker 4: spring training And the team's like, hey, we don't, although
- 38:54Speaker 4: it could it could raise elevate his trade status. A
- 38:57Speaker 4: team could watch him in these as AJ call exhibition games.
- 39:01Speaker 4: He hits a couple, gets a couple of big hits,
- 39:04Speaker 4: and they're like, all right, that's it.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Put it over the line. We want to see we
- 39:08Speaker 2: want to trade for Brandon Donovan. Nope, you know what
- 39:10Speaker 2: they're gonna say. Ernie Clement raked in the postseason. That's
- 39:13Speaker 2: why he's on Team USA, not because he did anything.
- 39:17Speaker 2: If he didn't. If if Ernie Clement did not have
- 39:19Speaker 2: the postseason that he had, he would not be on
- 39:22Speaker 2: Team USA. I'm sorry, I agree, you can. You can.
- 39:25Speaker 2: So then you just made my point that the playoffs
- 39:28Speaker 2: are more important. Nobody said they weren't more important. Everybody
- 39:32Speaker 2: good said on the same level, the same level, just
- 39:36Speaker 2: that the WBC is not an exhibition.
- 39:40Speaker 4: They are on the level of playoffs, They're not more important.
- 39:43Speaker 4: You play the whole season, played their whole career to
- 39:45Speaker 4: be in the playoffs. That was not the argument at all.
- 39:49Speaker 4: You called them an exhibition game, exhibition games, which couldn't
- 39:53Speaker 4: be farther from the truth. The All Star Game is
- 39:55Speaker 4: an exhibition game. This is true international base game.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Give this to the day I died. The All Star
- 40:01Speaker 2: Game is more important to your career than WBC is.
- 40:04Speaker 2: So that changed money. You can't change my lot because
- 40:08Speaker 2: when you go to the lot, when you go to
- 40:10Speaker 2: the individual career, it's more important.
- 40:13Speaker 3: It doesn't mean crap.
- 40:14Speaker 2: I'm saying it doesn't matter. I'm not saying this it matters,
- 40:18Speaker 2: but people don't want to win.
- 40:20Speaker 1: WBC is much more important to most players. They would
- 40:23Speaker 1: have one WBC title than if there's no money involved.
- 40:26Speaker 3: They I think that's more important.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Okay, winning You just had the Hall We just had
- 40:33Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame debate, right, and all Star games?
- 40:36Speaker 2: How many All Star Games you made? Is not They
- 40:38Speaker 2: don't say, Well, man Andrew Jones played for the Netherlands
- 40:41Speaker 2: and the WBC when he was forty five years old.
- 40:44Speaker 2: They say he made eight All Star Games or whatever
- 40:46Speaker 2: it was. So no, that's not right.
- 40:49Speaker 1: You're talking about individuals stuff though these are individuals.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Well, that's good. That's how you get paid though in
- 40:55Speaker 2: your career that at the end of your career.
- 40:56Speaker 3: I'm not just talking about money.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Did you win a World Series? Yes? Did you win
- 41:01Speaker 2: a World Series? Yes or no? Yes? Okay? Did you
- 41:04Speaker 2: make the All Star Game? Yes? Right? Those are the
- 41:06Speaker 2: questions you get asked more than anything. Did you win
- 41:08Speaker 2: a World Series? Yes or no?
- 41:09Speaker 3: Did you ever series that much? For Hall of Fame?
- 41:13Speaker 2: Are you fucking kidding me?
- 41:15Speaker 3: I don't think you think That's One of the first
- 41:17Speaker 3: questions that they ask is if a player.
- 41:19Speaker 2: How did you do in the postseason? How did you
- 41:21Speaker 2: do in the Why do you think Andy Pettittts got
- 41:23Speaker 2: so much much love? But yes, win World Series? On
- 41:30Speaker 2: the back of your baseball card, at no point will
- 41:32Speaker 2: it ever say he hit three eighty two in the WBC.
- 41:36Speaker 2: It's a It'll give you your postseason stats, it'll give
- 41:39Speaker 2: you your regular season stats, but it'll never say he
- 41:42Speaker 2: did this in the I'm sorry, listen I again. I love, love,
- 41:46Speaker 2: love the WBC. I love it. I think it's freaking
- 41:49Speaker 2: awesome for the game, for the players. I love the emotion.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I love when dudes rip their shirt off after they strike,
- 41:54Speaker 2: guys out, throw their bats, everything they do all their stuff.
- 41:58Speaker 2: When the Italians have the first cappuccino machine, the team
- 42:03Speaker 2: Israel had the was the stuff guy in the thing? Like,
- 42:08Speaker 2: all that stuff is unbelievably cool, right, but it's still
- 42:12Speaker 2: an exhibition. It's not real games. Now do they mean
- 42:16Speaker 2: as much? Absolutely to the players, but on the grand
- 42:20Speaker 2: scheme of things, they are on a lower level.
- 42:22Speaker 1: They mean more to most of the countries around the world.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And the whole reason I brought this up was that
- 42:28Speaker 1: general managers don't give a crap and if it was
- 42:30Speaker 1: up to them, nobody would play. And that's why Team
- 42:34Speaker 1: USA has to fight through a stigma with their pitchers.
- 42:36Speaker 3: That was my only point.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I understand it's not helping your Hall of Fame case
- 42:41Speaker 1: very much, but the players treat it like the Olympics,
- 42:44Speaker 1: and the Olympics is very important.
- 42:46Speaker 2: This is all we got as baseball players. It's all
- 42:49Speaker 2: we got, right, this is the start of the Olympics.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Not to start another conversation, do the Cardinals let Brendan
- 42:55Speaker 4: Donovan go and play.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Because of the fact that he could be on the block?
- 43:02Speaker 3: Yes, they do.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And technically you're not allowed to tell someone no, you
- 43:05Speaker 1: can just make a suggestion. I think it's much more
- 43:07Speaker 1: difficult to make a suggestion to a position player. Pitching
- 43:09Speaker 1: is the problem. Logan Webb told the Giants, sorry about it,
- 43:13Speaker 1: I'm going anyway. But in most cases, I haven't heard
- 43:16Speaker 1: of many position players being denied by their team, aside
- 43:19Speaker 1: from insurance.
- 43:20Speaker 3: That's all too Vay Korea insuring.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Oh the team that was the team denying me going,
- 43:27Speaker 2: And I'm still kind of mad about.
- 43:29Speaker 3: It, just because I said I'm going.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Yeah, at this time, we look at this time, I
- 43:34Speaker 2: understood why we just won the World Series. You know,
- 43:37Speaker 2: I caught one hundred and fifty games that year. It
- 43:39Speaker 2: was the first one, so nobody really knew how important
- 43:42Speaker 2: it was, right, nobody knew what it would become where
- 43:45Speaker 2: it is now, right, And that was the team that
- 43:47Speaker 2: had Griffy and Chipper and Alex Rodriguez and Jeter and
- 43:50Speaker 2: I think Roger Clemens and all these guys are on this.
- 43:53Speaker 2: It was the first one. Nobody realized what it would become.
- 43:56Speaker 2: And the White said no, and I understood, And but
- 43:59Speaker 2: I wish I would have gotten to do it, because
- 44:00Speaker 2: I love the USA and I would have loved it.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Put USA on my chest. One of my big regrets
- 44:05Speaker 2: I never got to play for the for the you
- 44:07Speaker 2: in the United States Baseball team. Wasn't my fall. It
- 44:10Speaker 2: just didn't work out.
- 44:11Speaker 1: And that's why here, well, no, if he looks back,
- 44:17Speaker 1: you would have said no. You would have told his team, no,
- 44:19Speaker 1: I'm going.
- 44:20Speaker 2: But I know this again. This was the first one.
- 44:22Speaker 2: There was no retailing. It was you don't have a choice,
- 44:26Speaker 2: Buck Martinez, you can't go.
- 44:28Speaker 1: We're a current player. You would have said, right now
- 44:31Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six.
- 44:32Speaker 2: I had said if I had, if I had a
- 44:34Speaker 2: guaranteed contract and I had all the things lined up,
- 44:37Speaker 2: and I already had like like Logan Webb has guaranteed
- 44:40Speaker 2: contract and he has all these things locked up already,
- 44:43Speaker 2: I would have been like, I'm going. I don't care.
- 44:44Speaker 2: I'll take my own insurance out on myself if I
- 44:46Speaker 2: have to.
