- 0:00Simpson drops the ball any kitchen and he kicks it again and again. Oh
- 0:07it's horrible flicking. Can't take your eyes away. It's like watching a monkey
- 0:11swallow a hand grenade. Four finger discounted. Welcome to four figure this gap.
- 0:32With this week, we're going to be feeling a little bit down because
- 0:35we're reviewing the Boys of Bummer. I'm Dano, yes, and I am
- 0:38guying. Welcome to the episode where we do the schlapping. I like that
- 0:43bit though. Those were my favorite moments. I've got a few. I've
- 0:45got more favorite moments yeah, from this episode than I imagined I would because
- 0:50at this episode, I was like, this is the thing A bit of
- 0:53a mixed bag for me because I liked it. I liked the mattress story
- 0:56right, I thought it was a bit weird because it's like, why is
- 0:58I'm not issuing the refund? This doesn't make sense. Wouldn't you return the
- 1:00matress to the stall? Shouldn't mister Costington's department. I don't go to Chris
- 1:06from JB High Fine and say I didn't enjoy this movie. I want to
- 1:08refund from you, sir. You sold me the movie. But you know
- 1:11what, I mean, But I thought the overall vibe of this episode was
- 1:15just so mean and cruel that it made it hard to even enjoy the funny
- 1:19bits. I feel like, if it wasn't so mean and cruel, I
- 1:21would have enjoyed those funny bits more. It's just the vibe of it just
- 1:23maybe going I get this is funny, but it was just so mean most
- 1:29of this. Yeah, there's certainly a way to do episodes where someone becomes
- 1:34the paria of the town. Yes, it's been done before it. I
- 1:38think it's been done with Bart certainly. I mean when topping off the head
- 1:41of the statue exactly, that's the one. That's the one. Yeah.
- 1:44In this case, however, Yeah, it really is all about executioners.
- 1:48It are all about the tone in which you do so. And in this
- 1:51way, it was just like, there's nothing amusing about this. There's nothing
- 1:56when it's when it's adults being mean to a child to this extent. If
- 1:59it was if it was home, I don't think it'd affect us as much.
- 2:00But seeing but when they animated him actually crying, I was like,
- 2:05but this is just not fun anymore. Yeah, if it's not going to
- 2:07be fun, then at least make it a lesson, Yes, because I
- 2:10get what they were going for with the whole And it's true, particularly with
- 2:14local teams and things, when they win a championship, they are legends,
- 2:16and the second they make a slight mistake, we just hound them. Right,
- 2:20But this is a child, and I know that's Springfield and it's meant
- 2:23to be that's the satire, but it went out for so long and it
- 2:25was so not un funny. It's just unrealistic certainly to some degree. I'm
- 2:31not alone in saying this, and I'm not the only person who is.
- 2:35But I grew up reading Peanuts. Charlie Brown. That was a good visual
- 2:38with the clothes coming off. Yeah, absolutely, And yeah they paid tribute
- 2:40that in this as well. So I was wondering if that might actually have
- 2:45informed some of this episode. But you know, Charlie Brown just copped it
- 2:50left and right all the time. And I felt so much for that guy.
- 2:54I related so much Charlie Brown growing up, because you know, I
- 2:57had receding hairline, poor dress, it's unreguarded. Love the little Redhaired girls
- 3:02guy and Charlie Brown soul brothers. I got the Charlie Brown Christmas for the
- 3:07Peanuts Christmas Like it's a foil cover and it's like a colored vinyl for Christmas.
- 3:12I was like, this is ye, I mean, Peanuts is just
- 3:15it's one of the great American works of art of the twentieth century. I
- 3:19don't think it gets as many much credit these days as it should. No,
- 3:22but it was people here, and people who grew up, say through
- 3:24seventies, eighties, nineties, still talk about it all the time. But
- 3:27like, I feel like anyone born after like say twenty ten, maybe even
- 3:30like two thousand, doesn't really know what Peanuts is. They know Snoopy maybe,
- 3:34but not really Charlie Brown. Yes, but not so much Charlie Brown.
- 3:37I think they tried to. I like with every like whever the animated
- 3:42property is like, Oh, there's there's money in there, let's make a
- 3:45movie out of it. They made a CGI film, didn't they did.
- 3:47I don't. I don't really recall it all that much, although going in
- 3:52I was like, oh, man, don't mess up, Charlie Brown,
- 3:55don't mess uplying it, don't mess up Lucy. I remember that it looked
- 4:00good though, and this is not bad. Yeah, yeah, And it
- 4:01was kind of faithful to the to the tone that charl Schultz created. But
- 4:06at the same time, I think we were entering a period whereas like,
- 4:10let's not be too mean, and there's an underlying listing Simpsons writers. There's
- 4:15another lying melancholy to Peanuts. We're not really talking about the boys Obama so
- 4:17much because there's not much to talk about. It's relevant and by the way,
- 4:23we have an awesome male bag that's been sent in. They'm going to
- 4:27be at the start of this podcast as we finished tucking here, because I
- 4:29thought this episode is such a down up, let's start off with a with
- 4:31something positive. Let's get a bit of it. But yeah, but yeah,
- 4:34so you thought they would be. They weren't being mean enough to Charlie
- 4:36Beann in the film. It wasn't mean enough so much as look, I'm
- 4:43not exactly sure where I'm going here. There was always positivity in Yeah,
- 4:46Peanuts, but it came through occasionally, it wasn't at the forefront. I
- 4:50think season eighteen, I think Charles Schultz was essentially saying life's kind of rough.
- 4:56Yeah, yeah, life can be pretty tough, and then people are
- 4:59going to have a go at, but occasionally there's going to be moments of
- 5:03friendship, of love, of support, of companionship, all that kind of
- 5:06stuff. That's the good stuff in life. Look out for it, Chaeriship
- 5:11when you get it. I feel like that it used to be Disney's model,
- 5:13even with kids films. Life's hard, Shit's gonna happen, but you'll
- 5:15get through it. You can overcome it. Yeah yeah, but fus It
- 5:18died. This wasn't Disney, but The Land Before Time, Big little Foot,
- 5:23his mother died. It's like when you're a kid, all these movies
- 5:26you think there's a traumatic but they got through it, you know. Yes.
- 5:31I always cite that line from Scream director Where's Craven? And he talked
- 5:35about how movies, horror movies in particular, can be emotional boot camp.
- 5:40You're watching a horror movie. Oh I'm scared. Wait a minute, I'm
- 5:42not dead. Oh yeah, okay, that's a fair point. Whatever doesn't
- 5:46kill me might just make me stronger. Yeah yeah, And I think that
- 5:48applies to Peanuts. It's like Alliott. He used to always have to have
- 5:51the hallway light on, and then one day I just turned it off.
- 5:55I said, no, you'd be fine, He'd be fine. He didn't
- 5:57really like his, I promise, if you get too scared, I'll put
- 5:59it back on. And I left it off in about two hours later,
- 6:01he's asleep and you wake up and he goes, I don't need the light
- 6:03anymore. I'm like, see, there you go. There's a movie on
- 6:08Netflix I haven't watched yet, but I'm quite keen to called The Ryan and
- 6:11the Dark. I haven't seen that one. I haven't seen it. Advertisement
- 6:13for it. Usually Netflix is like, you must watch this one Netflix front
- 6:17of the pod? Are they You're You're kind of dropping the ball when it
- 6:23comes to marketing a fan because there's so much people use Netflix as kind of
- 6:26the code word or that's the code of streaming right. Essentially, it's like,
- 6:32well, people my mum's age are just like, I've got the Netflix.
- 6:35Netflix is like, it's not the WWE of the wrestling world, but
- 6:38they're the WWE of the streaming world. But with that also comes being a
- 6:42buzzword for the worst of streaming as well. It's like, okay, yeah,
- 6:46you've got you know, some crap documentaries or oh, you had a
- 6:49good show, but you didn't market it all. And I've been that's the
- 6:53thing with Netflix. I don't really market stuff all that well. Content over
- 6:56quality pretty much. You know. If they think that something's really going to
- 6:59hit on the algorithm, push push push it and number one trending is is
- 7:02it really number one trending today? That looking rom com with what's the name
- 7:06from Jane the Virgin, it just looks ship the Red Glass. It's like,
- 7:11I don't think this is number one in Australia today. I think he's
- 7:14sucking a lot of people into watching this. But this one called a Ryan
- 7:16in the Dark is yeah, an animated movie, kids movie where a little
- 7:21boy is basically afraid of everything. He's like, but the thing I'm afraid
- 7:25of most is the dark. And then the dark comes to life? Uh
- 7:29comes to life. It's a c g I film. Yeah, Okay,
- 7:32and it's how the are you gonna mate that? It's not? It's very
- 7:35much like Monsters Inc. To the best. I think I know what you're
- 7:39talking about now, Yes, and Dark's like the actor who does it is
- 7:42a guy named Paul Walter Houser. He's a fantastic actor. He sounds a
- 7:46lot like Chris Farley in this though. But I'm the dark and I'm going
- 7:49to show you that I'm actually a pretty nice guy. The ovisinal Shrek.
- 7:51Yeah, this looks really thought, this looks really good. I'll watch it
- 7:56when I get around here. I am big upping this thing that I actually
- 8:00watched. It might be ship. But you know, sometimes though, and
- 8:03we'll get to this mailbag in a second, but sometimes it's nice to have
- 8:05things in your list that you're looking forward to watching it, and it gets
- 8:07to the point where you're like, I just like knowing that it's there gives
- 8:11me something to look forward to, but you don't actually watch them put aside
- 8:13for a rainy day very much. That's what Deep Rising was for me,
- 8:16because you can mention it for months and months and now that night I watched
- 8:20and I fucking loved it. But I'm just like, you know what,
- 8:22I've got two hours now, I'm in the mood, let's do this.
- 8:24And I was excited and it paid off. But I'm thinking this might be
- 8:28something for you and Elliott to enjoy. Ryan O. R I N and
- 8:35the Dark and the Dark have looked Oryan and the Dark Netflix. Okay,
- 8:41yeah, I know the one. Now I actually have seen it pop up.
- 8:43Yeah, I will check it out with Elliott I think it might be
- 8:46and thens on what we were talking about, and then he is now afraid
- 8:48of the duck again. Way it's the dark. It's bad, but this
- 8:54story right. So this will send in Simpson's mailbag at gmail dot com.
- 8:58It's from Chris Whitney. It's a bit of a long one, but believe
- 9:00me, does it pay off, particularly for you and I. We have
- 9:01a bit of a connection here. So hello, four Finger discounts. Long
- 9:05time listening to the pod one of my absolute favorites now for about six years
- 9:09since I first started listening. Keep up the great work. I have a
- 9:11brief story, so stick with me. Being from Lincoln, Nebraska, were
- 9:13pretty far away from Australia. However, in third grade, which was nineteen
- 9:18ninety two, we had an exchange student and his mum come to Lincoln from
- 9:20Geelong, Australia. All the places right. The mum was our literature teacher
- 9:26and the son was our age and they would both and they would both be
- 9:28with us for a year, spanning from January to December. We would usually
- 9:33play touch football or flag football, which is like American foota for kids in
- 9:35the States at recess. So there was definitely no physical tackling of any kind.
- 9:39Well, our exchange student, whose name was James, did not know
- 9:43this, and one of the first times he played, he absolutely leveled this
- 9:46poor kid who had the ball. We calmly explained to him through laughter that
- 9:50you went supposed to actually physically tackle someone in this version of the game.
- 9:52The very next play they threw a pass to me, and sure enough he
- 9:56comes James again on the other team, bearing down to me. I saw
- 10:00this and I looked and looked like he was going to creamy. So I
- 10:03meekly stepped out of bounds and curled up in case he was going to tackle
- 10:05me. I look up and he's just sitting there, laughing his ars off
- 10:07along with everybody else. He was never going to tackle me after the explanation
- 10:11he received after the previous tackle, but he thought it'd be funny to just
- 10:15pretend to. James and his mum are great and we were sad to see
- 10:16them head back to Australia later that year. So we fast forward about twenty
- 10:20years two twenty and eleven and it's late at night and I'm watching this AFL
- 10:24Grand Final that popped up on ESPN and it's Geelong taken on Collingwood. You
- 10:28remember that, you Obviously they keep talking about this fella named Jimmy Bartel,
- 10:33Oh my God, for Geelong, and I'm like, wait a minute,
- 10:35there's no way that's him. Sure Enough, the very kid who threw the
- 10:39fear of gotten to me on the playground in America is leading Geelong to a
- 10:41championship, win championship. It was him and his mum Diane who were here
- 10:46in Nebraska so many years ago, and Jim Bartel won the best player a
- 10:50field in that game. I've meant to send this email for a number of
- 10:52years since I started listening to the pub, but finally got around to it.
- 10:56I also watched I always watched AFL when it would pop on our sports
- 10:58channels for whatever, but that that twenty eleven final was the first time I
- 11:01actually watched a match in a very long time. Needless to say, it
- 11:05was fun to see ob the success that James or Jimmy Bartell's we know him
- 11:07here had made a Geelong fan in the process, and he made me a
- 11:11Geeong fan the process. If he attacked me, I could have claimed to
- 11:13be attacked by one of Geelong's icons. Thanks for the pot I hope you're
- 11:16feeling you're having a great year. How else was that we are definitely now
- 11:20having a great thanks to that letter. That was fantastic, Chris, thank
- 11:24you so much for sharing that story with us. What are the fucking odds
- 11:26of Bartel? I feel like we have to like send this to Jimmy.
- 11:31We absolutely should. My nephew, yep, gus went to school or did
- 11:39he go to school with Jimmy? Buttell Joey's yes, yes, yeah,
- 11:41yeah, so he may have gone to school with him. He definitely played
- 11:45footy with him back in the day, so I'm not sure they're still in
- 11:48contact at all, but yeah, Jimmy Bartel, absolute gelong hero, absolute
- 11:52ledge. This was a fantastic story, Chris, I know right you told
- 11:56this. I was like James, and then when he's like Jimmy, Buttell's
- 11:58like, but yeah, if you've got great stories like that, it's gonna
- 12:05be hard to top that story, obviously, but if the idea that he
- 12:11went to it was like nah, mate, So yeah, Jimmy, but
- 12:16I tell, if you're out there listening, get in touch with Chris Whitney.
- 12:18He wasn't here from you, but yeah, I thought it was a
- 12:20really fun story to start the show off with. That is really really good
- 12:22indeed. But getting back to the episode, obviously, so we touched on
- 12:26the mattress story. I brought up how it doesn't really make sense with Homer
- 12:28being the one to have to offer the refund, but I just liked the
- 12:33idea that there's a perfect mattress. My uncle Darren, who was you know,
- 12:35friend of the pod. He's a subscriber, I was on Patreon.
- 12:39He had this bet and yet he got rid of it like last year,
- 12:41but for like thirty years he had this mattress and it was so soft and
- 12:45it almost felt like a water bed, but it wasn't a waterbed. And
- 12:46whenever we say, uncle, Damn's like can we sleep in that bed please?
- 12:50It was like it was the best mattress. We went and bought a
- 12:52new mattress about I don't know, about five years ago. Changed everything,
- 12:56not just like sex life, but I'm just meaning like just sleepwise, Like,
- 12:58yeah, my mattresses can be a bad back, but there's something about
- 13:01a really good mattress. There really is, YEA. Lu and I went
- 13:05shopping for various mattresses. I mean, when Lu and I first got together,
- 13:09it was because we got our mattress, like fifty to fifty. They
- 13:11made it one way on this half and one way on that half. According
- 13:15to our back the new one is okay, I believe. Yeah. But
- 13:18when lu and I first got together and I would stay, it was like
- 13:20this bit's too sock. I was very much like Goldielogs, like I really
- 13:24like being with this lovely lady, but at the same time, this bed
- 13:28is this is untenable. So after we've been seeing each other for a while
- 13:33and yeah, we're both of you guys, I think we're going to be
- 13:37spending a better time in the same bed, we should probably get one that's
- 13:41good for both of us, not you. It's the mattress. Why are
- 13:45you leaving? Why do you always run away? It's the bed, honey?
- 13:50Why does this keep heavy? We did buy a new bed and then,
- 13:58yeah, we were lying on is that we were basically doing a homework,
- 14:03don't you When you're in a store laying on a bed, it's like,
- 14:03no, this is what you're supposed to be doing. But still laying
- 14:05out in a bed, and even in a bed store just feels odd.
- 14:09Well until you take your pants off. Oh yeah, that makes far more
- 14:11comfortable. We're are the human? Are you pants on? Pants off?
- 14:13In the bed? I'm clothes off. I'd never sleep the clothes on in
- 14:16the bed. Ah, I am clothes on. Well, I'm not pajamas,
- 14:20T shirt and shorts or whatever. Yes, yes, I can't.
- 14:24I just can't. I just can't do it. But certainly around this time
- 14:28of year, it is, it is hot along right now, it's going
- 14:31to be even hotter eight tomorrow degrees celsius and not the short that is in
- 14:35fahrenheit, but fucking that's near, and that's near and one hundred Yeah,
- 14:37pretty sure. I think forty equals are I think fort's a look centigrade or
- 14:43celsius thirty eight one hundred fahrenheit. I think celsius. You're probably right.
- 14:46I just confirm at fahrenheit. Look here, you're far can not be accessed
- 14:50thirty eight degrees. Stop asking about the weather. Celsius. Yeah, more
- 14:56interesting topic. It's one hundred exactly, and that this is the thing I
- 15:01remember watching The Sandlot, which we did a movie Guys review for one hundred
- 15:03and fifty degrees outside. What's one hundred and fifty degrees fairmlise fucking what it's
- 15:07like you're walking on the sun a sixty five? Did they weigh those sixty
- 15:11five degrees Outik, that's exaggerations. They were children, they exaggerated. But
- 15:16I always base my idea of what it must what fucking hot must be,
- 15:18is one hundred and fifty degrees. I don't think i've ever but continue.
- 15:22Yes, yeah, uh, naked sleeping, naked sleeping. I tend to
- 15:28be a either pajama shorts or boxer shorts and T shirt kind of person,
- 15:33even in this weather. But I'll I'll usually wag them and down sometime in
- 15:37the middle of the night, I stripped off my T shirt. Yeah,
- 15:39for the boys or everything. This is the thing I know I'm getting to
- 15:43towards middle age because I now get excited for a good pair of pajamas,
- 15:46because I like wearing pajamas around the house. When it's bad to my tack
- 15:48them off. But I get excited now for oh, the Simpsons pjs.
- 15:52Like I never used to bother with Peaches, I just wear T shirt and
- 15:56shorts. Now I like wearing pajamas. And I was talking to about our
- 15:58dear friends unc Rico, friends of the podcast. They're now looking into Yeah,
- 16:03it seems pajamas are now the thing. You know, for a while
- 16:07it was the Woodies and they became that everyone just copied in the oversized jumpes,
- 16:11oversized hoodies. But now it's pajamas, a themed license set of pajamas.
- 16:15Onesies were very big for a while, they were yeah, yeah,
- 16:18then Woodies took a role at the role of that. But now it's just
- 16:19pj's back to the classics. Nothing like the real thing, baby exactly.
- 16:26One know how we'll get into the whole love making the naked anyway, But
- 16:29what do you think of the story in the sense that do you think do
- 16:30you buy it to the fact that it can impact your sex life A good
- 16:33mattress, well, a little far fetched, but a little Yeah. I
- 16:40think a good sex life is good sex life wherever you're doing it. Yeah,
- 16:44I'm not sure that a mattress really, you know, plays that much
- 16:48of a role in it. Yeah, it's all about the way you.
- 16:51I think it's more. I think it's more about your dance, the courting,
- 16:56let's say. Yeah, I think certainly I recognize as I'm getting a
- 17:00bit older that oh sleep yes, oh yeah, I've been listening to a
- 17:06lot of motivational stuff, a lot of self helpy kind of things to ease
- 17:12my way along the journey of life. So many people are saying sleep just
- 17:18to sleep. You need it, you really need it. That's why when
- 17:21sometimes last week I got big, I'll go to bed late, right so
- 17:23I get a fast sleep. Last night, I was in bed and it
- 17:26was like two minutes to midnight. It's like hashtag now watching, and I'm
- 17:30like, why are you watching a movie? Guy? It's because I had
- 17:34access to the final episode of Monsieur Speed, which is a really really good
- 17:38show. I was a show. Okay, Yes, I wasn't watching a
- 17:41whole movie. Yeah, I just watching the last episode of YEA and it
- 17:45was the final episode really good. But do you put the hashtag now watching?
- 17:49Is that during or before? You're just about to before? Okay?
- 17:55Yeah, because I don't know whether. Sometimes I see it really late and
- 17:57I'm like, is he putting this is? I'm starting this now? But
- 18:03you're right there sleep. Sometimes it gets like ten o'clock and I'm like,
- 18:06you should just go to it, and I know I should just go to
- 18:07bed, but I go, but I really want to watch this thing without
- 18:11interruptions or I just want to do this. I just want to have me
- 18:14time, because I very rarely get me time. It's usually come to clean
- 18:17up the house, or podcasts or kids a while. But yeah, bed
- 18:19before ten is a good motto. I did that for about two months and
- 18:25it changed everything. I was just I've had more energy, I was happier.
- 18:27But yeah, it's really good. But you sound like a fuddy duddy
- 18:30when you say it's like you should get more sleep. Yeah, I know,
- 18:33but we should. People keep saying for the right reason. There's a
- 18:37reason for it. Absolutely. Yeah, Plus it just feels great. What's
- 18:42the time for you when you go to bed where you're like it's early enough.
- 18:45We're just like, oh, yeah, I'm gonna get a good night
- 18:48sleep for me. If I'm in bed before at nine thirty, I'm excited
- 18:51for that. There are sometimes when it's nine thirty. Absolutely, it's like,
- 18:53oh, I'm going to I'm going to slip the shit out of this
- 18:56night. I'm gonna make this note monch. And then and then you sit
- 19:00on your phone for two hours and it's like quarter to midnight, start watching
- 19:04something. But I need to toe my phone off when I get a bed.
- 19:08I give myself half an hour because otherwise I just get lost in time.
- 19:11I'll get a bed early. I stay awake longer on my phone.
- 19:14Well, I will have something on YouTube playing, or some sleep sound playing
- 19:21like some is it as mr or ams R. I know what you mean,
- 19:23though, yeah, sleep sound. It's not necessarily someone who storm sounds.
- 19:33I found a really great that loves loves the rain. There are so
- 19:40many videos of just like ten hours of a thunderstorms. That's my job.
- 19:47I remember. I remember seeing some tweets that was basically, is anyone else
- 19:52reads a stage where they slided a bit and just go oh yeah, that's
- 19:56the stuff. I was like, more than you know, I wonder if
- 20:00there's a market, right, just say, for example, it's a bit
- 20:03of thunderstorm, right, if I get the microphones, just record the storm
- 20:07right and then go Geelong storm from January twenty seventh, nineteen ninety seven.
- 20:11Right, there was a youtue channel that said you can listen to the actual
- 20:14storm from nineteen ninety six. Would you listen to that? I probably would?
- 20:17Actually, yeah, what do you think? I would like? Take
- 20:18you back? It's like it's just rain, but it's like this was the
- 20:22actual rain that I was listening to thirty four years ago. That's thirty kilometers
- 20:26from my house. Yeah, I don't know. Is there a market for
- 20:29that. I reckon there would be a person. I've got for loop from
- 20:32one of our anniversaries was you can go online and find this. This was
- 20:37the night sky on your anniversary. That's cool. That's actually really good because
- 20:45losing to the stars, Yeah, this would be a nice one. Yeah,
- 20:48she loved it. She did enjoy it, I think said she didn't.
- 20:52No, you thought it was a nice kid. That's did she actually
- 20:56enjoy it though? Look at were expecting a better response. Oh that's pretty
- 21:00thoughtful, and I think it's a pretty cool present. Yeah. Well,
- 21:03I mean I augmented that with some jewelry. Okay, flashy blingling. Next,
- 21:08I said, Mattress also this because I was thinking, yes, my
- 21:15favorite what are your favorite moments from the episode, mister Davis. I did
- 21:18enjoy once they won the I guess it was the semi final or the preliminary
- 21:22final or whatever it was that we caught the prelim but the game to get
- 21:27into the championship. Yes, where the team is up on the dais and
- 21:33they're just acting like dickheads. I mean, Bart moons the crowd and never
- 21:36and starts throwing eggs. Quimby says, these boys are found the right to
- 21:38act like arrogant arrogant oaks. Yep, that's the way it goes, and
- 21:44I kind of agree with it to some degree. This is semi related but
- 21:48not really, or this is not related but sort of is. You didn't
- 21:52tell it anyways, so just tell it. I met another show that's just
- 21:56finished up Season four of True Detective. Okay, you saw the best ending
- 22:00ever or something. I did not put that. Oh oh that was for
- 22:03season two, which is really good, which you thought was Season four did
- 22:07not have such a great gay It was fine. But the guy who created
- 22:11True Detective to begin with, writer Nick Pitzolato, he's not really involved with
- 22:15season four, but he's got his name on it and I imagine as casting
- 22:18a sizeable check from it. That still hasn't stoped him being absolute bitch on
- 22:22social media saying, eh, this kind of sucks True Detective. Yeah.
- 22:26So he's critiquing the product, yeah wow, and profiting and piss taking.
- 22:33Yeah, And part of me is going, I don't know. I always
- 22:34enjoy it. When artists or whoever talk about the smack, it's kind of
- 22:40fun and it's kind of dishy and interesting at the same time, shows have
- 22:44got some balls. I'm also thinking you should be above this, my man.
- 22:49But if I was making true attative season four, I probably would appreciate
- 22:52the original guy taking the piss. No. The woman who is basically behind
- 22:57Season four, who directed all the episodes and wrote a lot of them,
- 23:03has been very diplomatic about it all so of some of the co stars and
- 23:06say, well, you know that's what they think. Yeah, so it's
- 23:08a shame, but you know, what are you gonna do? Yeah.
- 23:11Part of me's going, yeah, tell it like it is. If you
- 23:15Yeah, if you don't like that someone has in your mind Sully, the
- 23:18name of something you created, something you're really associated with, go for it.
- 23:22It's fun, it's dishy. Another part of me is going, you
- 23:26should be better than this. You should be kind of a be an example,
- 23:29be a role model. I agree, but I also think if there
- 23:30was a post from George Luca's shit Canning the Last Jedi when it first came
- 23:33out, can you imagine how much engagement that would have gone? I would
- 23:37have done it, so it's just trade tradings. So it's always a fine
- 23:44line of like being confident enough and celebratory enough in something that you've accomplished,
- 23:49it should be constructive criticism. Yeah, there's a great line that a lot
- 23:52of you hear a bit was like be humble, but let motherfuckers know.
- 23:57Yeah, it was like, yeah, sure I won, but I won.
- 24:06So I think I thought that line really spoke to It's like taking the
- 24:10MJ approach a little Lebron approach. Lebron's more toned down. I mean,
- 24:14he brags back how good he is, but MJ's just sitting there with the
- 24:15Sigaronese mouth saying, motherfuckers, look at me. But he was doing that
- 24:18all the time. I mean it was pretty obvious, you know when when
- 24:22MJ was playing this guy thinks he's pretty good, but at the same time
- 24:26he's Michael Jordan. So I enjoyed that a bit. There's a gag when
- 24:33there's a crowd outside the Simpsons place and someone has a you know, like
- 24:37an out at the hospital. Is that side the hospital but's in the hospital,
- 24:40and they're saying that they're doing bart. I thought it was outside the
- 24:44hat. But it's later in the episode someone's holding a sign and then when
- 24:48I think, Marge says he's just a little boy and hoose and everyone sort
- 24:51of starts feeling bad. The sign drops and someone brings up saying we're sorry,
- 24:57and it just happens really quickly, sort of in the back. That's
- 25:00why I decided to do the fake game. Yeah, yeah, it is.
- 25:03It is the hospital because Bart falls from the tower. Ah, okay,
- 25:06yeah, that's it. My apologies, No, that's fine. And
- 25:08the other thing that I liked it felt like this was a gag that was
- 25:12a reverse engineer. They came up with the punchline first, and then it's
- 25:15like, oh, how do we make this happen? How do we make
- 25:18this happen? And it's when margin Homer are ghosts at the day? Yeah,
- 25:25oh, let's have go sex. Go sex is worse than nothing?
- 25:27Well, why are you moaning because I'm a ghost? That's a pretty good
- 25:32punchline. And it feels like the punchline is that why were you moaning because
- 25:34I'm a ghost? You didn't need to go there. But I guess it
- 25:37paid off of having ghost because you're still Yeah, but like that was it
- 25:40was fine. It's just because I was a ghost. Yeah, it didn't
- 25:44feel like it wasn't a great gag, but it had a great punchline.
- 25:45Yeah yeah, I lined Marge making the deal with the coach. How that
- 25:49sort of it's like, oh, you pretend to be the ghost of the
- 25:52musment part that I want, let's just stop now. And I liked the
- 25:56line of now, I'm not a man who believes in miracles, but you
- 26:00could this bed could resurrect our sex life. And then the slapping just because
- 26:04I haven't touched on this. The thing I liked about the love Joys here
- 26:07was that for maybe season or two now, we've been complaining about how they
- 26:11seemed so unhappy all the time. At least this is a bit of a
- 26:15payoff to that. Now we know. Next question, you there eating the
- 26:19beast, all right, mister Davis, It is time for trivia. Okay.
- 26:23Oh I'm gonna hit you hit me? Okay. The first question we
- 26:26called it the prelim a little earlier. What was the final score of the
- 26:30pre limb Ah shit, I'm just seeing five two at some point that's obviously
- 26:36not it. What was it? It became five to three five three,
- 26:37Okay, yes, I was initially going to say, what is the name
- 26:41of the Springfield Little League team? But yeah, I thought they're only saying
- 26:45this one. I'll stop there, and then they said it all the time.
- 26:49I don't remember them saying. I remember seeing the word isotots. My
- 26:52first question is what's the name of the mattress that margin homer give? Oh?
- 26:56Instead a slap and tickle at something else? Oh? Oh damn?
- 27:00What do you do when you're having sex? Generally it's bouncing, giggle,
- 27:07finish early in sleep. I apologize the apology range from a guy that was
- 27:22a range of bed card. I'm sorry. I totally get one should be
- 27:26condoms, right, probably. I just think it was Valentine's Day recently,
- 27:33and I know I have the right batch of social media buddies because so many
- 27:37were putting up you those little candy hearts that have got little. So many
- 27:41people are putting out those with things like test negative or your money's on the
- 27:47dresser. It's like I'm on a list something like that. It's getting more
- 27:55and more deplorable. Now. The reason I had such trouble with the with
- 28:00that question because I had a similar one, okay, which is what is
- 28:03the brand of mattress that Homer sells? The love Joys. I won't cheat,
- 28:08I do. That's by the Matcham Moses match by Matrimonium. It starts
- 28:15with s, doesn't it snoke snuggl luffer, snagge luckers, snug lucks snugger
- 28:19luck. Yes. I was halfway to it when I was like, that's
- 28:23not it stopped saying that word. My next question is what are the two
- 28:27headlines in the sports section. One of them is It's just shame. Yeah,
- 28:34Boy's shame or something just a shame? Is it just shame? Yeah?
- 28:37Yeah, okay. The other one is Boy's Era weekends dollars alright.
- 28:41In your final question, my final question to you is when Homer is in
- 28:47Costington's, how many shopping bags is he carrying around? Oh that's a good
- 28:51question. Bit off there. I can say five and you'd be very close,
- 28:56but it is four. I did also appreciate that because when I got
- 28:59shopping with Nick and I'm just like, where's the chair? I have sat
- 29:04in that chair more often than shoes shopping in my I'm like two hours.
- 29:10She walks out one pair, one pear, one pair. Well, I
- 29:14just didn't like, I don't want to spend money like Nichola were just doing
- 29:18Nicholas English accent. I just want one pair. She's just like sometimes she
- 29:22goes, we go shopping and then I'm just waiting for her to I know
- 29:26what I want. I look up and advance, go jab high five,
- 29:27fucking get this movie, Ben, grab something else while I'm there, I'm
- 29:30out. She says that she bruises shoes for like three hours and walks at
- 29:33one pair because she's like, I don't want to spend too much money on
- 29:36myself. I'm like, that's why we're here, spend and spend and spend
- 29:41exactly. My final question is what is the commentator called the link sausage.
- 29:48He calls it the death Winger Deathener. Yeah, just get that death winer
- 29:52away from me, which is I've heard more often not my romantic life.

- 31:36Don't cancels. All right, so let's get into our review of The
- 31:41Boys of Bumma. Let's do that. The usual edit was April twenty nine,
- 31:45two thousand and seven. It was written by Michael Price and this was
- 31:48the first episode directed by my man Rob Olivo, who was the guy who
- 31:52was basically took us under his arm, under his wing when we went to
- 31:55the Simpsons studio Nikio Saudia, she was a production coordinator at the time.
- 31:59She's like, I have to go do some shit here, Rob. These
- 32:00guys are Simpsons fans. Mastro and he was like, it's like in his
- 32:04officer. We sent in his office like an hour and he's like, so
- 32:07do you like stuff? Basically he showed us how to draw margin. The
- 32:10video for that is on YouTube. That's that's Rob. Yeah, and he
- 32:14was the man for you Simpsons nerds out there, speaking of him, see
- 32:16the big couble cut out there the Simpsons Season five release of the DVD's I
- 32:20see it. I'm pretty sure that no one listening to this podcast can see
- 32:22you. No, but on social media this week, so you probably can
- 32:24see it. Yes, that's well, that's me told. It was seen
- 32:27by like one hundred thousand people on our Twitter page. But basically he was
- 32:30the man who designed all of the Simpsons DVD cover art box sets for the
- 32:34box sets. Yeah, Rob, it's good work, muddy, Yeah,
- 32:37exactly right. All right, So the episode kicks I was a catch game
- 32:40for this one. It was Yeah, the couches replaced by four wooden chairs
- 32:44and good chairs. Yes, pop ghost the wheel. Right. So the
- 32:45episode kicks off with can you remember mister Davis kicks off with, well,
- 32:50it's the isotopes. It is the tos. What did I say? Isotopes
- 32:54is the is the ground topes is the grand version of Iso tots, the
- 32:58younger version of nice plan on there. Yes, and they were at the
- 33:00ball game or the ball field springfield, a little league park he warned,
- 33:06your child is not as good as you think. That's a great sign because
- 33:08it is so true. Even like when Elliot's like really really good at something,
- 33:10I'm like, I'm becoming that parent that thinks his kids better than everybody
- 33:15else. I'm like, he's actually pretty fucking good, Like he bowls me
- 33:17out cricket. But it's like if I if he then goes some place cricket
- 33:21with other kids, is he going to be just another average joke? Because
- 33:23at the moment I think he's pretty good. Keep it on. He could
- 33:28be the next Beckham. You can be the next and dad, dad Beckham,
- 33:30and your son's like the next MJ walking around with cigars in his mouth.
- 33:36Took it personally, but Homer is late due to watching all the hot
- 33:39dogs in the in the roller. I guess I got the corn and Nelson
- 33:43throws the balls. What's a picture it punch, isn't it. Yeah,
- 33:46that's a gag that kind of wore out its welcome pretty quickly. Yeah,
- 33:52and using it. Yeah, Flanders is the coach. They're one went awy
- 33:54from the Championshi, they didn't really do anything with this. I thought,
- 33:57Oh, Flanner's gonna be the coach and then Home is going to replace him
- 33:59again, but no, Flanners was just always the and it's the only time
- 34:01you saw him as the coach though it was. And also what was the
- 34:05deal with the black armbands that kept Willy's naughty hands busy? Yeah, I
- 34:09know that felt like fellow. I know they're trying to go trying to tricky
- 34:15to thinking that Willy had passed, but it's like they didn't linger on it
- 34:16long enough for that to even really sink in. Yeah, yeah, it
- 34:20was odd, but they just wanted to make a I guess a rapist joke
- 34:24against really, I guess he is ready roddy peeper as we learned. Yeah,
- 34:29but they Yeah, they're doing it for Willy for making the black bicet
- 34:31warmers and then Bart hoggs the catch from Millhouse and Homers. This makes up
- 34:36for everything that's gone wrong in my life and ever will. Honestly, when
- 34:38your kid does something in sport, that's how not to this extent, but
- 34:42you feel us like, yes, everything is good now on my jeans.
- 34:46Yeah, yeah, he gets that from me, you know, he gets
- 34:47it from me. Now outs time of the town meeting for the team,
- 34:51they're all just celebrating Nelson's just I think he's just buying kiss it. But
- 34:53Bart flushes his ass. Speaking of Bart flushing his ass, he does so
- 34:58in Bart versus Australia yesterday marth, twenty ninth anniversary of that episode airing,
- 35:02and I messaged my man, Matt Salmon of Simpson I said, man,
- 35:07we get the Simpsons a revisit down Under for the thirtieth anniversary of Barbur's Australia
- 35:12and that phone? Who is now? Bart? Stay humble here? Baseball
- 35:20cap won't fit over a swelled head, Flanders. These boys have earned the
- 35:23right to behave like arrogant. Oh skew, we egg the crowd in this
- 35:28modern day Jedwood, you can do anything right? Are missing the phone?
- 35:39What glorious ghoul? Then Marges are getting dressed. She's picking out address at
- 35:45Cossington's, isn't she. Yeah, there's a lot of interesting ideas in here
- 35:49that just would really explored. As the coach, I'm like, that's a
- 35:52story been before with the football team. But it's kind of a story,
- 35:57you're right. I mean that could be a thing about no. No kids
- 36:00are here to play and have fun. You know, Little League is about
- 36:01learning teamwork and you know, resilience and all that kind of thing. It's
- 36:05not necessarily about win win win, And then you know you have home with
- 36:07his football coach hat on no win win win. That could be interesting,
- 36:13this whole thing about it's not helicopter parents, but the parents on the side
- 36:15line are like my son, et cetera, et cetera, Oh, my
- 36:19daughter, that's extremely batronizing girls complete sport two. Apparently it's funny because it's
- 36:28not funny. But Ali asked the question the other day. We're watching some
- 36:32as a band and as a girl singing. I was pixies, right,
- 36:36and he's like, why why is there a girl singer? And I was
- 36:38like, oh, she's a singer in the band. He goes to girls
- 36:40singing bands too, and I was like, wow, it starts from such
- 36:44a young age. I'm like, yeah, of course they do. And
- 36:45he's like, oh, because they can play football, and I'm like,
- 36:46they can't play football. I'm like, it's nice. Their kids are starting
- 36:50to sort of actually acknowledge, Oh, girls can do shit too. Oh
- 36:52okay then, and it's just and it's just normal because when I was growing
- 36:57up, it was like once a girl was like ten, no more football
- 36:59for you know, And it's just it shouldn't have been that way, but
- 37:00that's just how it was. It's just nice that kids now just it's normal
- 37:05for them to see girls doing things. It's also good that Elliott was introduced
- 37:07to Kim deal at this age. Oh yes, yeah, except we're watching
- 37:12like a recent concert and he was like, she doesn't look the same.
- 37:15And I'm like, yeah, that's not Kim, that's why. And I
- 37:17shed a tear. Is it not Kim in the Pixies? Now? Who's
- 37:22in the new Pixies. No, it's a one with long hairs. Not
- 37:24Kim anymore. She's she's gone for good now, Kim apparently not in life
- 37:29but just offteruring with the Breeders. Probably. Yeah. I saw her when
- 37:32they came twenty ten, I think played at Festival Hall. I was so
- 37:36glad it was Kim again. Yeah. I love Pixies. Do you like
- 37:38Pixies? I don't love them. I saw her alive and thought, yeah,
- 37:43pretty good. I mean they're one of those bands like everyone like likes
- 37:46Pixies or I had liked a Pixie song. Yes, yeah, that's pretty
- 37:51much the case. I wouldn't say, necessarily time to crank up some Pixies
- 37:54on the way, That is me. But I think a lot of bands
- 38:00Pixies, like, for example, I've got a blue rave Nirvana playing Paramount
- 38:02Theater or something, and David was wearing a Pixie shirt. I think they
- 38:06inspired a lot of bands, but they never really like became household names themselves.
- 38:09It's like that great line about The Velvet Underground. Oh yeah, they
- 38:13say the same thing. Yea, yeah, It's like only three people bought
- 38:15The Velvet Underground's first album, but they all started bands. Yes, and
- 38:19that was a really good band. But as you were saying before, though,
- 38:22there was definitely a lot of good ideas in this episode that could have
- 38:25become their own thing, but they just sort of just forgot about them.
- 38:30They were used as flavor salt and pepper, a little bit of hot sauce,
- 38:34but not pepper, just pepper, and not even that good hot sauce.
- 38:38More like, really we caught some wild yeah mild, and then they
- 38:45end up coming across like filler as opposed to a story which they could have
- 38:47become. Yeah, actual good ideas that you would talk about after this episode
- 38:52has unless, of course you're Dan doing Guy doing four finger discount. But
- 38:57even like, for example, March here buying a new dress and getting caught
- 39:00up in the in the hype, that's a story in the stuff as well.
- 39:01It is, yeah, yeah, but they didn't go with it.
- 39:04So people living through their kids or trying to get a bit of stolen valor
- 39:07or second ad glory, yep, that's it. Yep. So they mentioned.
- 39:10She's mentioned the name and batting average numerous times. The work at his
- 39:13hums while she waffles on Homer is now he hates shopping. He tries to
- 39:15find the husbands chair, but Hibbit and Wigham take them because Sarah Wigham is
- 39:21trying to find a bathing that doesn't make it look horsy. Another mean comment.
- 39:23I mean, it's not too as mean as the other stuff we get
- 39:27in this episode, but everything's mean spirited. It is. Although I was
- 39:30watching this on Disney Plus with the with the closed captions and they had Harsey
- 39:35in quote marks, So I think you can take that to assume that's Sarah
- 39:39saying that. Okay, you could say Horsey. Yeah. Yeah. He
- 39:46doesn't think that it's going to be a while, so it's just him sort
- 39:50of saying, so it's gonna be hard to find it, but it could
- 39:54be like you spend three hours shopping shoes. You look good, women,
- 39:59be we be shamming. Homer then sits on the bed, gets under the
- 40:07covers, and we will do it. We will do it, and we'll
- 40:09do it Eddie Murphy themed topic and we can pick Eddie Murhy films and then
- 40:13we'll just wrick it. So it's natty professor, Well, we'll make it
- 40:16as niche as possible. It's like Dave Chappelle cameos in films. Is there
- 40:22any others? It's like it's between this and Connie Yes, of course,
- 40:25fucking Connair. He's pinball. Holy shit, yeah he is too. That's
- 40:30a movie. I've been sitting there going, I'm going to revisit this soon
- 40:32because I loved Connye as a kid. But I'm gonna watch it in twenty
- 40:36years. I've got to do the I want to do the triple feature of
- 40:38Face Off, Face Off Conne and I think it's the Rock. I think
- 40:43that the Rocks are that one. Okay, yeah, they're all from the
- 40:45sort of that same yeah era. I think it was like, there's another
- 40:47one for me. That'd probably put in there. Maybe I'm ageddon. That's
- 40:52more of like a disaster film, though, isn't it. Yeah, good
- 40:54time, it's good time to be your life. Take us back. Why
- 41:00I want to watch Deep Rising? I said to Nicola, No, I'm
- 41:01enjoying this. It's because it's easy to buy into this because you didn't have
- 41:06cell phones. I mean, you had cell phones, but it wasn't like
- 41:07you couldn't play ot social media. So like you can buy into the fact
- 41:10that a ship could go under and no one will be able to communicate and
- 41:14they'd be missing, and no one would know they've got missing because we didn't
- 41:15have the Internet yet at it at its peak. You know, you've got
- 41:19so many shows and movies that they say, say, oh, don't have
- 41:22coverage. I've got no bars. That's the screen, right is easy out,
- 41:28that's the escape patch. Yeah. But so Homer's now found the bed
- 41:31and he's sitting on the bed and he's down to the cover. He takes
- 41:32his pants off, just getting getting comfortable as you would, and then mister
- 41:37Costing and wakes He mup, he can't believe it. He slipping into my
- 41:38store. I initially thought, I mean I looked away for a second and
- 41:42I started hearing the Costington voice. I thought, is it super intended charmers
- 41:45going? Because it sounds very similar. It's a ringer, but it's just
- 41:49a combination of He's meant to be a take of the Star Wars guy,
- 41:51isn't he, what's the what's the fat guy? The fat leader of the
- 41:53jar Jar? Yeah, that was that was his whod gimmick to I think
- 42:00there's always been jows, jolly yeah, pale brokers. Yeah, it's fun
- 42:07to do, isn't it? It is? How are you? It's poo?
- 42:10How many are you sleeping in the middle of my department store? Well?
- 42:15Who wouldn't with an incredible mattress like this? It works with my body's
- 42:21natural curves and supports my back boobs. That's the best endorsement I've heard since
- 42:25Mickey Mail for Maypole. I'll take five mattresses. I don't work here,
- 42:31you do now? Shun more hard now that it's off the championship game and
- 42:37Lisa one as what as my crowds to see teachers inspire children, And I'm
- 42:42just like, it's crazy town. Not that unneeded the sound necessary gag,
- 42:45Yeah, just means for the sake of mean Shelbyville. The bases a loaded,
- 42:51but they spinfer In is one more ass to win the game. They
- 42:53hit an easy catch to BT, but he fumbles it. Yeah, it
- 42:57doesn't go well at all. He Li boots it. He does. He's
- 43:00the original goat, the original meaning of goat. We started calling it greatest
- 43:05of all time. This is a shower back to Charlie Brown. They always
- 43:07refer to him as, Oh, you're the goat, Charlie Brown, which
- 43:09means you suck. Yeah, I am. I hate the term goat nows
- 43:13groaps of all time and just you're the goat, or people saying you're the
- 43:15goat's like going loll like, don't do it, don't say that it's over
- 43:19you, or people just put a picture of a goat as the murder kind
- 43:22I'm like, unless, of course, you want to refer to a full
- 43:28finger discount as the ghost of podcast of course. Yeah. I really liked
- 43:30the setup though before Butt marked it, Upper Markedt caught the ball. Sorry
- 43:36of him like lady putting his hat down about the championship. That was a
- 43:38really cool visual. I like that, but did you know so later in
- 43:43the episode actually we'll touch it later. Its basically there was an incident with
- 43:46the Cubs where a fan interfered with a catch, which they take off.
- 43:51Here is that when Homer catches it. When Homer catches it, yeah,
- 43:53because they designed the guy wearing just what he was and everything. The guy's
- 43:59last time is Bartman. Can you believe it? Oh my goodness, oh
- 44:04Steve Bartman. We'll get to that when we get to that. Okay,
- 44:08but Barter's dropped the catch. Everyone's yelling at him. It's like watching a
- 44:12monkey swallow a hand grenade. Harry is always great as commentators and things like
- 44:15that, as news readers, as his thing. It's really good spot absolutely,
- 44:22and the crowds were booing. And it is true that we just weturn
- 44:24on athletes. We can be like a guy can kick a match winning goal.
- 44:28In the following week he drops the mark, you suck. It's like
- 44:30last week you loved him. You would have had his children. In Geelong,
- 44:34we call this Tom Hawks phenomenon. The five years of his life,
- 44:38it was like, boo, why do we have him replace him? And
- 44:42now it's like hawks, like, oh, hail the hawk. He w
- 44:46was a great final he did I'm not sure when Tomahawk became the nickname that
- 44:52we designated him but t bone, but I think once he started actually kick
- 45:00goals, being the best, yeah, or being more consistent. It's just
- 45:04even now he's still a little occasionally inconsistent, but it's just one of those
- 45:07guys where it's just like you're big, but you're also agile. Now too
- 45:10is just added this extra element to his game where it's like, fucking he
- 45:14saves us and what he's throwing ocasionally throwing Jeremy Cameron as well, the other,
- 45:17yeah, the other one of the best sports. It's like thank you.
- 45:20But everyone's I'm like, I mean he will be lining up to kick.
- 45:24We're like, I don't think, just kick. Well. We call
- 45:28the confidence player here as a Geelong fan listeners, because if tom Hawks misses
- 45:32his first goal, he's going to miss every goal for the game. If
- 45:35he sees the first one, we're like, we're gonna win. But also
- 45:39when he's going for goals on the run or something like that, or you
- 45:42know, from seemingly impossible angl, it's like, yes, yes, it's
- 45:45like you're three ft away. No, it's gonna end up in like Winch'll
- 45:51see that's a very very gelong reference. But take it to me and he's
- 45:55gonna shank cancel his ship out. Tom Hawgan's by the way we love you
- 45:59come on the show. Is that is that a term for other sports?
- 46:00When we say shank, we mean fuck it up? I mean it's it's
- 46:06traditionally a golf term. Right, are you shaking? Is that he's saying
- 46:07golf when you're shanky when it goes to the side, Yes, you slice
- 46:13it, yeah yeah, slice or shank yeah whatever, you suck it up,
- 46:16you fuck it up. And I guess we've started to put that into
- 46:20other sports. And speaking of sucking up, butt fucks up here and the
- 46:22crowd turns him. Of course it is correct. We come back from the
- 46:25commercial and the crowd are all still billing and it comes up on the sign
- 46:29throw beer at him. Just it's just it's getting too much. I think.
- 46:32I know it's just satire, it's just an animated show, but I
- 46:35think, just being a child, it's a little bit too much. They
- 46:37haven't done, in my opinion, quite enough to build up why it's so
- 46:43important. It's important. They need to do a Friday Light. Friday Lights
- 46:45kind of thing where it's like, oh, the town's self esteem and well
- 46:51being and of tots, you know, yeah, and it's the ice of
- 46:54tots. Why do you care so much about this? Yeah? This is
- 46:58something interesting. I mean, particularly American friends, if you want to let
- 47:01us know why college football and high school football are so incredibly popular. I
- 47:07mean, the NFL is clearly popular. People tend to know who Travis Kelcey
- 47:12is these days, but high school football and college football tracks some really rabit.
- 47:16It's huge fan bases and followings. I think it's just important because they're
- 47:21very patriotic, especially from what whenever you say someone where you're from, it's
- 47:24not just the town, it's the state, everything very much so. So
- 47:29if you'd like to tell us a bit about this, by all means,
- 47:31get into the mailbag. That mail bag down. Its a Simpsons mailbag at
- 47:35gmail dot com. You could also do it on one of our many social
- 47:38media pages, I'm sure, but then we get mo even saying things like
- 47:42if you's ruty protection, we wouldn't even be in this situation. I'm just
- 47:44like, oh Jesus christis is mean? Wigham drives back into it, puts
- 47:47the roof down. So they can throw more shit at him. We're now
- 47:51at home and Homer is told to hide the sports section that we mentioned earlier.
- 47:53Margin tells home, I mean, don't you think I do your job
- 47:57as a mattress salesman? Oh yeah's see how that goes again. And they're
- 48:00just knowledging that it doesn't really make sense anymore. He doesn't have a job
- 48:02at the power plant. It's just what we need him to do this week.
- 48:06It's not necessarily a gag I hate. But see I hadn't even thought
- 48:08about it until they pointed it out. It's like, oh, yeah,
- 48:12that's that's silly. But whatever. I think we're at the point now by
- 48:15season eighteen, when you're watching these episodes in a row, the whole nuclear
- 48:19power plant doesn't enter the equation of my mind anymore. Not, it really
- 48:22doesn't. It's just what's his what's his gimmick for this one? Being that
- 48:25self aware and sort of Fourth War breaking with it? Sometimes I like that,
- 48:30Yeah, in this case, it was more like, I see what
- 48:32you did. They're as supposed to see what you did that. Homer is
- 48:36now selling beds. He's doing a pretty good job. Who wants to get
- 48:38one? It's like floating in a river of corpses. He wants to get
- 48:40away from his kids. The love joys here. You know, I've got
- 48:44a friend of a friend's sex problem. Man. One of my questions was,
- 48:47where can they hear Homer in? What other departments? China? Find
- 48:52China, China, Homer, we have a friend, actually a friend of
- 48:59a friend the text problem. Hey, Homer, please they can hear you
- 49:02and find China. Relax. I'm a licensed mattress professional, if there were
- 49:08such a thing, and I've got the answer to your problems. The Snug
- 49:14Lucks by Matrimonium ooh sold, and remember your most intimate secrets are safe with
- 49:23me. Okay, who else is dead in bed? I like to hear
- 49:28that Homer wasn't necessarily judging them for having shit sex off. He He's just
- 49:30like, no, no, there's a fixing problem. Yeah yeah, so
- 49:34his solution driven rather than problem oriented. Yeah yeah, who else is dead
- 49:37in bed? So again coolness KBBL no official. But then then now the
- 49:42official Bart Simpson Sucks station and we get the takeoff of Love Stinks, which
- 49:45is now Bart Stinks. Wasn't that funny? Not really not? But again,
- 49:50all these things, uh, shouting out things that actually happen in society.
- 49:55Sorry for the sidetrack. Yeah, the Lovely Luis and I were watching
- 49:59this three pound documentary about disco dico music. Oh you mentioned this actually about
- 50:04the rise of it, success of it, and the third episode was the
- 50:07downfall and then inevitable slight comeback. Yeah. But some dip shit radio DJ
- 50:12in the States who you know, just look like one of those demon and
- 50:15weasel in the money. That's gonna be us. By the way, heart
- 50:19sounds on his keyboard and he's going to money. We've definitely got an airhorn.
- 50:25Gotta love airhorns. Ah, but he was the guy who basically greaded
- 50:30the whole disco sucks phenomenon. Okay, and enough sort of aggrieved. Nineteen
- 50:37seventies version of in Cells got on board and say, yeah, that's right,
- 50:40disco sex. This is new backing. And you know he took this
- 50:45and ran with it to the one of both. I can listen to two
- 50:50genres of music. There's a thing on your radio called it die. You
- 50:53can turn it and listen to another station. One. You tell me which
- 50:57music you want to listen to that reminds me of Crement, Why don't you
- 51:00tell me what movie you want to see? I wish I hear a lot
- 51:04about the Mister Movie Phone guy that they had in the US. I mean,
- 51:06I wish we had something like that there in Australia. We sort of
- 51:08do, but not really. Yeah, but he sort of took that and
- 51:13ram with was like, Hey, why don't we have a like a baseball
- 51:15when everyone can bring their disc albums and will blow them up? It's really
- 51:19why why don't you just promote the music you like? I mean, I'm
- 51:22at the same time, I'm not the kind of person who's like, why
- 51:25don't we just talk about those things? But to do the Marge thing of
- 51:29like, so can't I bet that everybody has the time. That's the greatest
- 51:32thing is it's so good. It's like one of the perfect marginals. I
- 51:35kind of bet the horses have a great time. I'm all for constructed criticism.
- 51:38I'm not necessarily for being a hater. There are times when seeing someone
- 51:45being a hater is actually kind of fun, but often it's just kind of
- 51:47man, that's pretty weak sauce man. I did see a great quote from
- 51:51Taylor Swift this week, right, I know you mentioned talyor Swift I think
- 51:53might be in the South Part podcast or anything. Was it like four Thing
- 51:55a Discount is my podcast of choice. That guy Davis sounds like a real
- 52:00hoty. But she said and then she wrote a song about me because the
- 52:05question was like, do you care if people are making fun of Lot the
- 52:07Swifties for dressing up? She's like, I never understood why people feel the
- 52:12need to make fun of people for having for being excited about something. I
- 52:15was like, that's true, Like what if someone's excited about something, who
- 52:20are you to bring them down because you don't like it as well? Just
- 52:22let them be excited. Who cares? There's so much to be excited about
- 52:25in this world. Yeah. I was on the tram going to mash Box
- 52:29twenty right, and the tram was feelingful. People are dress up as Taylor
- 52:31Swift, and I was just like, good, good, having a great
- 52:35time. You'll think you'll they're going, hey, matchbox over here. Came
- 52:38in a little matchbox in my bucket. Twenty of them about start at the
- 52:47time, and one more and one more? How many is that? Twenty?
- 52:53Well, one goes missing. It's nineteen dickhead right off supermarket. Well,
- 53:02we're amusing ourself all this episode's not certainly not doing it. But where
- 53:07were we up to? Mother? There's the song again, Lisa's this is
- 53:10a surprise for Bart again. So Homer apparently buried his pet rabbit alive.
- 53:15What's a lot of fucking need for this line. There's a lot of really
- 53:20yeah, mean spirits stuff, just unnecessarily mean cruel shit. I just don't
- 53:23get it anyway. But now she he gets introduced to Joe labout who from
- 53:28the nineteen forty three World series he messed up as well, another mean thing
- 53:31Eleanor Roosevelt when she was beautiful, And I was like, what the why
- 53:36is everything so mean in this? What's going on? But then he mentions
- 53:39here that he's got the car dealership and the seventeen grandchildren, and he's got
- 53:44a big home, which to most people would be a great thing, that
- 53:46would be a signifiers of a life World live with. Grandpa makes fun of
- 53:51him and then he realizes that he's talking to Bart, and then he yells
- 53:53at him, and I did enjoy the delivery of whoo who indeed, But
- 53:59but it's where Bar cries and I was like, I can't enjoy this anymore,
- 54:01because now you've got a child crying, it's not funny anymore. I
- 54:05really like all these ideas in theory, I really do. I think they
- 54:08say something. I think they work, but yeah, it's just the execution
- 54:13was just not quite right. You just need to turn the dial a little
- 54:16bit. Yeah, just turn it on a bit. It's probably too many
- 54:20ideas that they need to be in there. Yeah, I mean, I
- 54:22think the idea of Joe labout a guy who's like, yeah, I really
- 54:24went through all this, but you know it gets better and you can bounce
- 54:28back. Oh wait a minute, you suck, Oh you suck. You
- 54:30could have everyone gets caught up in the in the fuel of like oh oh
- 54:36you're the scapegoat or you're the whipping boy. I guess yeah, I've got
- 54:37to get it on that action. The love Joys are now at the Simpsons
- 54:40home and Homer comes clean about drinking the holy water blah blah blah, and
- 54:44they mentioned that the matches failed and they want a refund. I was just
- 54:45like, what what is this logical connotation? Is pffunity? What's happening?
- 54:53I did like the line about we tried raising cane, but we weren't able.
- 54:58I love Joyce about me drinking that holy water. Let me tell you
- 55:01I had had like a million Doritos, you know the ones with the flame
- 55:06on the bag. Oh, that begging lion. We're here about the mattress.
- 55:09What's wrong with it? We tried raising caine, but we weren't able.
- 55:14Oh I can't. I know what you're doing wrong? Have you tried
- 55:19after this? I know the mechanics of love making, Homer. You always
- 55:23a refund rack your chick. They start then getting down on home as bed
- 55:29as he's right in the check And as we said, and I'm not a
- 55:30man who believes miracles, and this could resiate our sex life. You do
- 55:34this shopping and just Helen just getting it done, because Helen clearly likes uh,
- 55:37getting down, getting busy. Yeah, Homer and Marge just not feeling
- 55:40it now in their own bed. Something's changed. This here thought didn't work
- 55:45because it's like something's changed. I can't quite figure it out. I got
- 55:47rid of the mattress, and I was like, that's not a punchline.
- 55:52Look, you build it up like he's like, oh, he's going something's
- 55:54gonna lead to a punchline. But No, it's just him going the mattress.
- 55:59But then he and Marge mentions that there's money in there. He used
- 56:00to unbling or whatever. Useless. The love joys, though, are now
- 56:06loving life at church. I'm looking like this, this little having a great
- 56:08time. Everyone's enjoying church except for Homer. I would go to church if
- 56:12this is kind of thing was going down. I always say, like you
- 56:14watched Sister Act and a ship, Like, if this was church, I
- 56:15would actually go. It's like a little concert. Oh yeah, just getting
- 56:19down. Yeah, seeing all these awesome Baptist church and Baptist churches in America
- 56:23where everything's just going right off. I imagine that's what white people think.
- 56:28That's hill Song for them. By the way, if you go to Hillsong
- 56:30and that's your thing, hey, we'll power to you. We're not heading
- 56:34here. On this episode of We'll Figure Discount, we're talking about how good
- 56:37it is to like things. Homer is muttering to himself about how he's not
- 56:39getting anything sexual or doing anything erotic with Marge. Then Lisa wakes to I
- 56:44hate Bart Simpson painted everywhere all over town. Nowson tells Rod and Newson Flanners
- 56:49tells Rod to fetch the Thinner from the stay away closet, and Lisa points
- 56:51out the window and says, look at there, and Bart's just painting it
- 56:53on a tower. Yeah, where it march just manomally. It needs glasses
- 56:58for why? Yeah, and like never see him again. It would have
- 57:00been great if there was a callback to was it Last Temptation Home? Of
- 57:05course, any shout out the Last Temptation Homer, it's going to be okay
- 57:08by me. But if it was those glasses that Bart had to wear that
- 57:10time, I'm a nerd, so man, but you were a happy even
- 57:17before this moment with oh god, they've been mean to Bart, and you
- 57:21know Bart's being all sad and all that. This was the stage where it
- 57:23really sort of becomes toxifizing, the self loathing. Yeah, I don't my
- 57:29actual note for a ten year old, Oh I don't know about this,
- 57:31no, yeah, yeah, So he thinks that we can be friends of
- 57:35everybody now because even he hates himself. And then Wigham says jump and he
- 57:38does, and I was like, oh, what the hell? Like that
- 57:43joke worked when it was Hermie starting to commit suicide in Futurama, and I
- 57:50believe it's better, that says, do a flip, that's funny. But
- 57:52they had the chief of police say to a ten year old jumb who said
- 57:55that it's like that doesn't didn't work for me. La Boot tries to catch
- 58:00him, Note drops him, and Grandpa makes fun of him again. When
- 58:02the cut to Bart who was in hospital, he needs some peace in quiet,
- 58:06and then we hear the crowd chatting and then he sucks still outside the
- 58:07window. I was like, it's just it's not funny anymore, because it's
- 58:10like, why they're still going with this. It just seems silly. Margin
- 58:14goes out. She yells at them. Then he's got murder novels, which
- 58:15Stephen King refers to us, what good scary, fust scary good fun,
- 58:20scary good fun. Stephen kingkindors is. He points at the sign that says
- 58:25she thought it was just a catchphrase whatever the meanest tan in Spring and USA.
- 58:30So it says, yeah, but now she realized it's the truth,
- 58:32and Moe brings up that, you know, maybe we can play a game
- 58:35over and over again. I did like this back and forth. Are you
- 58:37sure I had difficulty envisioning it? Let me get this straight. You want
- 58:44our boys to play a fake rematch against Springfield so your son can make the
- 58:47catch he missed and feel better about himself. Exactly. I guess I could.
- 58:52If you pretend to be my fiance when my mother comes to visit,
- 58:55Okay, if you pretend to be our chauffeur at my high school, fine,
- 59:00fine, if you pretend to be a ghost in an old amusement park
- 59:02I'm trying to buy. We should stop now. Yeah, and Lisa tricks
- 59:07the commentator into re commentating, Yeah, commentating over again. Yeah, by
- 59:13what's what's the brand of sage link sausage? But it's dance Oh yeah,
- 59:16okay, yeah, I don't know what the actual brand is. But the
- 59:20thing is, though I sometimes watch all footy games. What they do now
- 59:22is they get players or whatever to commentate the games that have already happened.
- 59:25And I'm like, how can you genuinely commentate a game when you already know
- 59:29the result. It's like, how can you? Just everything feels like fake
- 59:31excitement. It's like they're not doing like an audio commentary. They're actually commentated
- 59:37like the game they're watching for the first time. And I'm like, but
- 59:38you know who wins this? It's just seemed weird. It's like, what's
- 59:42gonna happen next? And I was like, we all know what happens next.
- 59:45You can only win do an audio commentary. It's like, well,
- 59:46that's good play by someone. So they are always good at this. Yeah,
- 59:50but they want to actually like commentate like they're in real time. It's
- 59:52just it's a bizarre concept that mends weird and I don't like it. Margin
- 59:57Homer and then breaking into the love Joy's house, this whole thing could have
- 1:00:00a story, you know, like it didn't need to be tied it's it's
- 1:00:02ourn episode. I mean, did they be tied in with this one?
- 1:00:05Yeah? It could have been a sort of semi singal to Grandpa, this
- 1:00:07is sexual anequacy or something like exactly, yeah, Homer, is it the
- 1:00:10Pink Panther music? What's what's No, that's just like general kind of suspense
- 1:00:15suspense music. Okay, But did love Joys get home? You put on
- 1:00:20the Michael Bolton sayday, I'll get the edible vestments. Oh my god,
- 1:00:25how dare you break into our house to file our bed and smash our family
- 1:00:29photos with your foot? Well, excuse me for being a powerful yet careless
- 1:00:34lover, we lovejoy. Our marriage needs this bad Our marriage needs it more.
- 1:00:39Well, I am reminded of the story of wise King Solomon, you
- 1:00:46would be. But then they decide they're going to cut the bed in helf,
- 1:00:51They're going to share the mattress, and I was just like, I
- 1:00:52don't think this works in any form. No, it just I feel like
- 1:00:55they did this just so they can make the joke about the creel Chase sandwich
- 1:01:00much yeah, which turns home, are on the way home and they decide
- 1:01:02to have sex behind the billboard, just like their honeymoon was it or something?
- 1:01:07I don't know, but that the same bummers there. Then he calls
- 1:01:08him fat. Anyway, it's now time for the fake game, and they
- 1:01:12made the excuse of they dusted the plate with a non regulation brush. Millhouse
- 1:01:15almost spoils it then, but just keeps dropping the catchers just doesn't doesn't work,
- 1:01:19but it's another try. He hit it by excellent accident, not by
- 1:01:22design. As the commodator says, it's deja vous all over again, which
- 1:01:24I remember, I'm trying to remember the first time I heard that. But
- 1:01:28it was done as a joke because deja who is already all over again.
- 1:01:32But now it's sort of become a phrase that people actually used, is it
- 1:01:37Okay? I don't think I've ever heard it before. I'm trying to remember
- 1:01:40a first hurt. It might have been in Scream. I found like,
- 1:01:44is that the second time Scream has been mentioned? Yeah, West Craven,
- 1:01:46Yeah, I want to watch the new I haven't watched a new one yet.
- 1:01:50It's in my list. I experienced deja vu at the Matchbox twenty concept.
- 1:01:55I I've experienced like three or four times, not the last month.
- 1:01:59It is so weird. It really is. Now. Yeah, I'm not
- 1:02:02a big believer in the paranormal or anything like that, but at the same
- 1:02:06time, I can't wholly discount it because I've had so many deja vu incidents
- 1:02:08in my life. And it's like, I was like, I've seen you
- 1:02:12walk down and you were holding that and I told nick Nicko was like,
- 1:02:15it's not a thing, and I was like, but it is. I've
- 1:02:19been here and it's only for a split second. Ye. Something was like,
- 1:02:22that's happened, and you feel it, Yeah, oh that's glitch and
- 1:02:28the matrix stuff, and it makes it starts to make you think about it.
- 1:02:30I looked around. I was like, what, Yeah, you start
- 1:02:32going all god quantum mechanics or you know five D you know universes, and
- 1:02:38yeah, bizarre man, bizarre. But it's basically it's Barkkeets sucking up again.
- 1:02:44Eventually he catches the ball when it's sunrise, isn't it very How many
- 1:02:49times are they like, seventy eight times? Seventy eighth time? Yeah,
- 1:02:51that's gonna be one of my two of your questions actually. But then we
- 1:02:53cut to the future and Bart is sort of bragging about how it did this,
- 1:02:58and Meal has comes clean, bar stunts crying again. Millhouse says,
- 1:03:00no, I was just lying that time, and Barsh's a bit of a
- 1:03:02jerk, and then Homer and Marge at the ghost, which we discussed earlier.
- 1:03:06That's the end of the episode. It is indeed the end of the
- 1:03:07episode. So I do I do think like there was plenty there that they
- 1:03:10could have run with. I think you take out thirty percent of the meanness
- 1:03:15the coolness of this, it probably would have worked better. I just think
- 1:03:19it just the vibe of it was just so hard to sort of get behind,
- 1:03:21or if you're going to bring in that cruelness which I think actually you
- 1:03:23might need because if you're going to make the point about how easily we turn
- 1:03:29on our heroes when they fuck up, and we do, Yeah, who's
- 1:03:32a hero that you've turned on? For me? It's just footy players usually,
- 1:03:36Oh, it's usually footy players. It's very sporting. I think I
- 1:03:38think we tend to do it with sport more ball, though you also see
- 1:03:43I mean, if you're talking about quote unquote the arch it's usually an actress
- 1:03:47or a singer, and it's usually a female performer that it happens to.
- 1:03:52Everyone went after Anne Hathaway for a while. Yeah, people turned on Jennifer
- 1:03:55Lawrence for a while. Well, Britney Spears is probably one of the best
- 1:04:00example they turn on an example body, Yeah, Lindsay Loewen. There's very
- 1:04:03few people who have been termed Tom Hanks probably one who's just managed to survive
- 1:04:05everything. Rob Williams survived everything. Yeah, oh no, but for a
- 1:04:09good long while there. You know, people like look, I was among
- 1:04:15them, probably Wims. You're indisputably funny. You're making a lot of shit
- 1:04:19movies. You know you're or you'll you really want people to like you,
- 1:04:24don't you row and you're making any deeds, which is unfortunate part. And
- 1:04:28yeah, then when you look back and I say, oh Jesus Christ,
- 1:04:30we were Dick's. Yeah, yeah, you're right about Tom Hanks. But
- 1:04:32even then you've got a lot of conspiracy theorists who are really trying to say,
- 1:04:36you know, Tom Hanks was in he went to Epstein's private seat children.
- 1:04:42Yeah, yeah, he drinks the blood of children. And like you're
- 1:04:45going to the most not obvious target, but the most sort of unlikely target.
- 1:04:51Mister Rogers is doing it. Yeah, it's just like because people just
- 1:04:56know I could be this good, So yeah, it happens. I mean
- 1:05:00in Australia we call it the tall Poppy syndrome. To some degree, it's
- 1:05:03Australia in general. Yeah, what do we learn, Bomber, What do
- 1:05:08you learn from the episode of Davis? What I learn from this episode that
- 1:05:11before that poor old baseball incident, Eleanor Roosevelt quite the hotty. I learned
- 1:05:16that never have photo frames around the bed, especially when you're a powerful lover,
- 1:05:20powerful lover. That's the only thing Hover seems to have going for him
- 1:05:25is that he seems to be good in the sack. Go for the gusta.
- 1:05:28Yeah, did he say careless but powerful? Careless but powerful? Yes,
- 1:05:30strap yourself in and fill the g's. From day forward, your name
- 1:05:34will be all right. It is time for the New Name Championship. It
- 1:05:39has returned for season eighteen. The current leader board stands at this mister Davis
- 1:05:44in first position. We have, of course, our man Philip Jay Hawkins
- 1:05:46in twenty three points, Kyle muldoon on sixteen, and Luck McKay on thirteen.
- 1:05:50I'm pretty sure that Philip J. Has been sitting through the last few
- 1:05:54episodes going when can we get to the fireworks factory? And by which I
- 1:05:57mean my inevitable victory? Yes, maybe let's find out what happens this way.
- 1:06:01Nothing on earth, nothing in life, is inevitable. But having said
- 1:06:04that, let's see if you get three points this time, one point goes
- 1:06:09to enemy of the plate. That is clever Kyle. He's now in seventeen
- 1:06:14points and he's six behind the Philip J. Hawkins. Keep it up,
- 1:06:16clever Carl, There's still more points to be had. Let's see he wins
- 1:06:18the next one. By the way, a lot of good names for this
- 1:06:21episode. I gave Dando three alternatives just in case, because sometimes double up
- 1:06:27because you don't know that's the thing we do, well I do. Sometimes
- 1:06:30it's like Philip Jay Hawkins can't get one, two and three votes with staffs,
- 1:06:33but he's so good. Yeah, so we do a blind so I
- 1:06:38had to throw in a few all turns just in case, and we had
- 1:06:40a lot to choose from this time around. Yeah, two points go to
- 1:06:43the unnatural That is a newbie newby j Jack Gurdham. Jake, did you
- 1:06:49say jet jet or TJ E double T jet jet? Yeah, let's call
- 1:06:54it good jet jet. Yeah, we go for two points. Well done.
- 1:06:57Jet's been around for a one Yeah, of course, yes, it
- 1:06:59was the first time little board for this season though. Correct. Yeah,
- 1:07:01but I mean I'm always I remember seeing that name around going having this exact
- 1:07:04same just got dajavu. Interesting spelling. So two points to you. Who's
- 1:07:10going to get the three though, let's see, let's find out. Three
- 1:07:13points go to Lundable it is Jay, Austin Williams, j Philip, it
- 1:07:24is Justin Williams. Well so phil Jaden any points this week. So Justin
- 1:07:27Williams with the three points, which puts Justin now on nine points. So
- 1:07:30he's now outright fourth position. Well done, justin, it's still a bit
- 1:07:33of a rad There's still four more weeks to go. There's twenty two episodes
- 1:07:36this season. That was season so nineteen twenty year four episodes left, which
- 1:07:41means there was plenty of points to be had. And Kyle Weldoon, you're
- 1:07:45only six points behind. So you guys still do this, Kyl, you
- 1:07:48can do it. You're very clever, clever, you can do it.
- 1:07:54Bail is here alright, Mailbey questions, mister Davis will pick a couple because
- 1:07:58we're running little bit long on time. I'm here. Uh well, this
- 1:08:00one's from Harrison mcaul. Is this the worst episode of the Simpsons in brackets?
- 1:08:03Yes, and Andrew JP says, even worse the Guy Davis's favorite episode,
- 1:08:06even worse than Guy Davis's favorite episode Simpsons Safari. And then Harrison said
- 1:08:11facts. So therese are a lot so much questions as statements. I was
- 1:08:15like, we have a lot of questions. Oh no, it's just a
- 1:08:17conversation between Harrison and sorry to butt in guys. Andrew JP says, what's
- 1:08:23your favorite sports redemption story? Athlete who failed in the big game? It
- 1:08:26recovered and became stronger. See what about football inside the episode football quite thou
- 1:08:31this podcast? But do you remember in two thousand and seven when Long won
- 1:08:34that drought baking, drought breaking premiership? Do I stevj was about to get
- 1:08:39delisted for being a rascal off the field correct and ended up winning the best
- 1:08:43on field in the Grand Finals. You know, Yeah, they love a
- 1:08:45good redemption story in the a I don't they the like you know, what's
- 1:08:48his name, Dustin Martin. At one point he was threatened to stab a
- 1:08:50waitress with chop sticks and then he's like the greatest player of all not a
- 1:08:57role model, kids, but still r DJ for you right, Oh yeah,
- 1:09:00absolutely one of the great comeback stories. Yeah, yeah, that would
- 1:09:04be the ultimate comeback story, would it not. It really is, And
- 1:09:06it's sort of a comebacks iron man. It's a comeback story with multiple levels
- 1:09:11as well, because speaking people along for the ride with him as well down
- 1:09:14the door he tried with Mel Gibson. Everyone's like, mel Gibson helped me
- 1:09:19come back. So it's like he's paying it back and paying it for I'd
- 1:09:24like to he had the balls to just do it anyway. You didn't care
- 1:09:25about whether people would care that he was like talking up mel Gibson. He's
- 1:09:28like, this motherfucker helps me. I'm going to try and help him.
- 1:09:30Absolutely, I'm not sure if this actually applies, Andrew JP. It's not
- 1:09:34really so much a redemption story, but it's a good underdog story, one
- 1:09:38that I really dig going way back into the archives back to nineteen seventy.
- 1:09:42But it was the AFL then VFL Grand Final. I think Carlton was behind,
- 1:09:47and they brought on this player who wasn't wasn't really much of a star
- 1:09:51his a guy named Ted Hopkins. He came on in the final court and
- 1:09:54he just fucking blitzed it. He kicked like four goals or something, and
- 1:09:58he basically just turned the whole game around. I remember reading that one as
- 1:10:00a kids like it Ched Hopkins, you selling married? So yeah, I'm
- 1:10:09a sucker for that kind of story. But yeah, yeah, certainly in
- 1:10:12non sporting arenas. Yeah, oh DJ, what a redemption yet? One
- 1:10:17percent? One more question here before we go this one here, Andrew Andrew
- 1:10:23Kelly favorite alternative for a mattress. I guess that means for getting down and
- 1:10:29funky, oh or maybe just sleeping. What's your favorite. Do you have
- 1:10:32a hammock at home? Maybe? Or couch? I have enjoyed I don't
- 1:10:36know about sleeping in a hammock, but I've enjoyed many a lazy afternoon a
- 1:10:41hammick. They're great. There's nothing like a good couch sleep. Our couch
- 1:10:45is fucked now, so we can't but for a while though, when we
- 1:10:48first had Holly, I was on the couch like six months because Holly was
- 1:10:51in the room and she was always crying and she couldn't sleep and blah blah.
- 1:10:55I used to love the couch, I think because I on it so
- 1:10:57often, I fucked it? That could that could well be that? And
- 1:11:00getting down of funk and the catch fox it up as well. There is
- 1:11:02no question. He's like, where is catch broken? Because I'm careless and
- 1:11:09powerful lover. But if you're talking about that alternative as well, I'm gonna
- 1:11:14have to quote Humpty hump from Digital Underground. One's got busy in a burking
- 1:11:17bathroom? Ooh nice? Really No? I never did? Ah had a
- 1:11:21wank at a macis the next episode of season eighteen? We should be reviewing?
- 1:11:30What does that line? The people? Please, sir, this is
- 1:11:32a Wendy is Crook and Ladder. Now, I remember enjoying this one,
- 1:11:41said, look the brief synopsis here for this one Margina Parenting Magazine. But
- 1:11:46did I watch this one? I remember I watching through the rest of like
- 1:11:48season eighteen. I remember enjoying it. Anyway, It'll be surprised when I
- 1:11:51revisit it for the for the podcast next week. So Cook and Ladder with
- 1:11:55the next season eighteen episode we would be episode nineteen. This has been our
- 1:11:58review of the Boys of Bum, not as negative as I thought it was
- 1:12:00going to be. We've had some fun here. We did a bit of
