- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is so good to be here again. Lucas: We have covered a lot of clothing words lately. Shati. Pantsi. Kofia. Luna: Right. And we learned the adjectives too. Kubwa. Ndogo. Lucas: But today, we need to add one more layer. Literally. Luna: Oh, I see where this is going. Colors? Lucas: Exactly. When you go to the market, or look in your closet, you want to be specific. Luna: I don't just want any shirt. I want the blue one. Lucas: So, how do we ask about color in Swahili? It is very simple. Luna: Let me guess. Is it 'Rangi'? Lucas: Close. We say 'Rangi gani?' That means 'What color?' Luna: Rangi gani? Okay. Let me try that. Lucas: Perfect. Say it again for us. Rangi gani? Luna: Rangi gani? It sounds nice. Like a question you can ask anywhere. Lucas: You can ask it at a shop. Or to a friend who is dressed up. Luna: Yes! If I saw someone in a bright yellow jacket, I would ask that. Lucas: Good example. So, let's learn the first color. Yellow. Luna: Is it 'Kialama'? No, wait. What is it? Lucas: It is 'Njano'. Remember, we use it after the noun. Luna: Shati njano? A yellow shirt? Lucas: Exactly. Shati njano. Let's practice the word itself. Luna: Njano. Njano. That is short and punchy. Lucas: It is. And it pairs well with green. Green is 'Kijani'. Luna: Kijani. Like the leaves outside? Lucas: Yes. The grass. The trees. Kijani. Say it with me. Luna: Kijani. Kijani. Okay, I have those two down. Lucas: Great. Now, let's do red. This one is important. Luna: Red? Is it 'Pwezi'? No, that doesn't sound right. Lucas: It is 'Nyekundu'. Nyekundu. Listen to the flow. Luna: Nyekundu. Oh, that has a bit of rhythm to it. Lucas: It does. Pantu nyekundu. Red pants. Very stylish. Luna: I might wear red pants if I knew how to pronounce them well. Lucas: You know them now. Nyekundu. One more time. Luna: Nyekundu. Yes. That feels solid. Lucas: Last one for today. Black. It is 'Nyeusi'. Luna: Nyeusi. Like the night sky? Lucas: Exactly. Sarepu nyeusi. A black dress. Elegant. Luna: Nyeusi. I like that word. It sounds deep. Lucas: It does. So we have four colors. Njano. Kijani. Nyekundu. Nyeusi. Luna: And the question. Rangi gani? Lucas: Let's put it all together in a tiny scene. Luna: Okay, I am at a market. I see a scarf. Lucas: You point to it. You ask: Rangi gani? Luna: Rangi gani? The seller says: Njano. Lucas: You smile. You say: Njano nzuri. Nice yellow. Luna: I love that interaction. Simple but effective. Lucas: It is. And you can swap the colors easily. Luna: Like asking for Kijani instead. Or Nyekundu. Lucas: Precisely. Nyeusi is also great for formal wear. Luna: I will remember Nyeusi for my next big meeting. Lucas: That is the spirit. Using the language in real life.
