- speaker-0: Hey there. Welcome to Six Figure Chicks Podcast. I'm Mel C. I am delighted to be joined by my very special guest, Maudri Basudevin. I am so glad I can call you Maud now. speaker-1: Yes, absolutely. speaker-0: You are a good friend, and I'm so fortunate to have you in my circle. So a little bit about Maud is she is just a powerhouse. at first thought, okay, she's a great physician, a health expert, but she really has a passion for holistic healing, more of the mind-body. I'm gonna read this. You work endocrinology facility at the Houston VA and Baylor College of Medicine. That's yes. You're nationally recognized for your diabetes care as well as championing for the holistic healing, like I said, through the mind, body, and spirit. Thank you so much for being here. speaker-1: Gosh, it's such, it's my pleasure, Mel. And it it's been such an amazing experience to meet you and to meet all the amazing women that are part of this amazing journey we're going on together. I just have so many wonderful things that I've experienced just being in this beautiful sphere and delighted to be here. speaker-0: Yay, thanks. And in just such a short amount of time, like I have known you for just a few months. speaker-1: True. But we're all kind of kindred spirits and instantly connected. speaker-0: Yeah, as soon as I met you in person at the photo shoot, I was like, my gosh, what have I done before I met you? Okay, speaker-1: Same, same. speaker-0: before we get into the interview, what's something fun or unexpected that a lot of people don't know about you? speaker-1: okay, something fun and unexpected. So everybody knows who know my f my dearest friends, my family, the community, they know I'm a physician. They know I've done traditional dance and other forms of dance over the course of my life. but what most people don't know yet, but are soon are recently finding out is that I have been singing in a cover band. That my husband and his friends started some years ago. So my husband's a pediatric surgeon and he works at a children's hospital and I work at the VA hospital. So our jobs are kind of busy and sometimes can be stressful. And he found this amazing band as an outlet, and they've been playing, you know, just for fun. And then they recently said, Hey, why don't you jump in and sing some of the cranberries? or maybe Love Shack by the B52s. And I said, I could do that. I can try. So so now I'm I'm doing this on the side. It's like a side gig for fun. and I'll tell you, it's a com it's a very cathartic experience. I feel like I'm just releasing it all out there. And the audience is made up of my dearest friends and new friends, and they seem to be along for the ride. So that's something new and exciting and different. speaker-0: That's amazing. We're going to be all front row when you guys take namescape somewhere. Yeah. speaker-1: I love it. That sounds great. speaker-0: I do want to let the listeners know Mod is in the Six Figure Chicks Houston volume one, something that you didn't even know you were going to be a part of. speaker-1: Absolutely not. I mean, this has been such a whirlwind experience for me. And it's truly, it's because of my dearest girlfriends, my chosen sisters, that you and I found each other, that you you were connected to me. I would never have thought a million, you know, in a million years that I would be a published author in such an inspirational book. It's truly been a phenomenal experience. speaker-0: I cannot wait for the book to launch and be in hands of, women all over the world so that we can inspire and take from your story such empowerment and motivation to keep going on. I just can't wait for the readers to read your story, your journey of where you were just a short while ago. So going off of that, what would you say to somebody who feels like They may have lost their purpose or is a little bit overwhelmed by, their personal life, their professional life, their health, mind, body. speaker-1: Sure. I think this is something that we each of us women experience at different stages of our life is kind of recalibrating what are what are we doing? What am I doing with my life? What's going on? What's my purpose? And sometimes we have the tendency to feel overwhelmed or downward spiral with a burden or this laundry list of things that we feel like we haven't done or we need to do. I'd say the first thing is to take a deep breath. You know, the first thing we can do for free that automatically releases stress in the body is to just breathe calmly. And that's something that I have utilized over the course of many years and then specifically over this most recent past year with my healing journey. But I'd say the first thing is to take a deep breath. The second thing is to connect with nature, mother, mother earth and nature is readily available to us. And automatically will help you to kind of declutter thoughts and stress, anxiety, fears, all those negative kind of vibrations that get in the way of thinking clearly and finding your true purpose. I believe that even if it's just five minutes or just a couple of minutes sitting outside and the peace and the quiet, it it automatically resets my day. I know that for sure. and it helps me to use all my senses. So I take a look. That what I'm seeing, what I'm smelling, what I'm feeling, what I'm hearing. And you know, I I instantly feel better. And the third thing I would say is you know, connect with your friends and connect with those that truly love you and see you for everything that you are, that what your true worth is on the inside. Connect with them and reaffirm that beauty that's within. I think generally. when I do that, I find, okay, I feel good. I I've connected with nature. My friends are kind of helping me to make sure that I'm I'm I'm in a good place, mind and body, and I go forward. speaker-0: I love that. And so what you touched on a little bit is about reclaiming your life and coming from a place of imbalance. what would be one simple step that somebody can take today to start listening to their inner voice and begin to heal? outside of what you just talked about. Those three steps are so great. speaker-1: Absolutely. To find that inner voice, to to reclaim balance, to you know find that true meaning. I think sometimes as adults, we are often bombarded with a lot of stress and responsibilities. And sometimes we prioritize, not sometimes, but most of the time as as busy women, we prioritize other people, other people's needs. Other tasks, our work, whatever the case may be, and we don't necessarily recognize or give ourselves the space to listen to what we need. But the first step, I think, to reclaiming what we need is to remember who we are. Think about a moment in your life when you were a little girl. think about the a moment of pure joy, of pure happiness. And what were those things that you did spontaneously where time could Pass, hours pass and you don't even realize. Try to bring that back into your life. And I think it's something for me, for example, it was hula hooping. And so, you know, I love to hula hoop when I was a little girl and play outside. And I love to play the piano. So at times when I have found myself in a stressful kind of mind state or feeling like I want to get some get myself back on track, I literally bought myself a hula hoop. Now I can't lose the way I did before, but at least I try. And I can play a couple of keys on the piano. And again, music is a is a wonderful way to reset and give yourself that breathe freedom to just breathe a little bit. I also think writing is a wonderful way, writing down your thoughts and writing down things that you have that you're grateful for. Because when we put ourselves in a in a mindset of gratitude, it automatically shifts your direction that, okay, I've got this much. I've got these tools and resources. And now I'm ready to do what I had envisioned for myself. So I would say, you know, think about your inner child, do something fun and joyful, play music or jump up and dance, and then speak, speak through the written word and through your own voice. speaker-0: I love that. And I love the hulu. We're just finding all kinds of fun facts out about you. speaker-1: Ha ha speaker-0: But talking about putting pen to paper, let's go to the six figure chicks Houston book, which is launching June 14th. for the the listeners of this episode is probably going to be published after. So we will already have the best-selling book in hand. What does it mean to you to share your story publicly? speaker-1: Absolutely. a quick summary of the chapter that I wrote. This past year I went through a pretty significant health issue and debilitated my physicality. and as a physician, you know, my role has always been to be the provider for others, to think about their conditions and guide them through their healing. as the Sort of a physician family member, I've always sort of taken on that hat of how can I help my family during their conditions or illnesses or or struggles. And this is the first time where I was on the patient side of the table and completely vulnerable and exposed in a way I had never been before. I think learning with my my medical brain and with my my patient. Personal, you know, personality, I learned a lot about what it means to listen to my intuition, to listen to my heart, to be to trust my inner circle, but first to trust myself and then to trust that inner circle of friends. And that doesn't mean that I always followed the every single doctor's orders or, you know, took anything at face value. I really wanted to believe that I accepted it as a part of my healing and move forward with intention. That experience, and and I'm still sort of going through has been life-altering. And it's given me, in fact, I'm so grateful for it in the sense that it's given me a true newfound appreciation for the beauty of life and for the beauty of our loving relationships that we have with people in the world. And when I was first approached and asked if I'd be interested in writing a chapter, I really thought, like, what could I write about? What should I as should I write about an experience as a physician, as a you know, caregiver for parents and and family kind of the sandwich generation? Those they're all stories that I'd love to share. But I I ultimately concluded that sharing the story that has put me in a state of great vulnerability and And a story of how I have learned how to re-reconnect with myself. I felt as a story that would resonate with a lot of women. And I felt it was a story that I felt compelled to share and with the hope that it would be inspirational. I want to be there to support my friends, to be there to support my daughter now, you know, as she grows up into a young woman. And I want all of my the readers to. to appreciate just the fact that your story is important. Whatever that story is, it's important. And if these stories that we're sharing can connect with you, all the better. speaker-0: Mm, well said, and it's so true as women, especially, we tend to put everyone else in front of ourselves. and sometimes it's just it's so nice to stop and take a moment to ourselves, congratulate ourselves for where we're at today and what we've gone through, because our stories can and will inspire, empower. Others. speaker-1: Exactly. And you know, my role as an endocrinologist at the VA is one that I hold very dearly. I'm so honored to be a physician for our veterans that have served and sacrificed. And the the way I approach patient care is now something that I realize is I have learned from them the importance of empowering myself. You know, I've always been on the platform of empowering my patients. How can they reclaim their life? and not be defined by the illness for which I'm seeing them or the condition that they may have. And now I'm learning so much. I'm humbled by that experience and understand what it means to be in the process of empowering myself. So it's been an amazing, enriching experience and one that I felt, okay, I want to share this with my dear friends and and the world. speaker-0: So as we wrap up the show, where can people connect with you and learn more about your healing journey? speaker-1: the best way is to connect with me through my website. That's motheredances.com. And from the website, there is a link to our Six Figure Chicks book launch, but there's also information there about me, and there's a way to connect with me through the website. speaker-0: Yay, I love it. Thank you, Maud. until next time, keep rising, keep healing, and keep shining your light just like Maud and all the other amazing women out there do. Thank you. speaker-1: Thank you. Thank you. It's thanks to you. We're all together and thank you for bringing us all together with this radiant light.
