- 0:00I'm just, I'm just saying, you know, I don't want to build this
- 0:04up too much, but. That's for the finale, that's.
- 0:08Welcome to a bonus episode of that car show.
- 0:12Lindsay and I are joined by Mike Burrows and Derek Shrek of Fuel
- 0:16Fed Boulder for a preview of their upcoming German car
- 0:19gathering called Zufeng Grupa. And we actually recorded this in
- 0:23the days right before the Colorado Grand, so there's some
- 0:26anticipation in the air. And we even chased the dragon a
- 0:29little bit some orbit at the end of the show.
- 0:31I'll leave it at that, but you may find yourself craving some
- 0:34too. In any case, it's a bonus
- 0:36episode of that car show. Enjoy.
- 0:41Hey, it's that car show. It's me, Ryan Barky, along with
- 0:44Lindsay, Jess and we've got our fuel fed friends here tonight,
- 0:48Mike Burrows and Derek Shrek. And well, Mike and Derek are new
- 0:52to that car show. The old heads out there may
- 0:54recall that Mike actually joined me and Mr. Fogler back on the
- 0:58steering committee low so many years ago, back when we smoked
- 1:01cigars way more regularly and the whiskey flowed like an Old
- 1:05West saloon. But Mike and Derek were also two
- 1:08of my housemates for Car Week this year, along with Tina
- 1:11Collinseko, Colin Handler, and the rest of that legendary gang.
- 1:14I would also learn on this trip that the boys know how to
- 1:17prepare one hell of a steak dinner.
- 1:19In any case, we are recording this a few days before the three
- 1:22of us are off for yet another Colorado grand, something we're
- 1:26incredibly fortunate to be a part of, so we definitely want
- 1:29to talk about that a bit. Also, Fuel Fed Boulder has an
- 1:32event coming up that if you like Porsche's, and I think you do,
- 1:35you will not want to miss. But let's get started with Fuel
- 1:38Fed and then on to the Grand. For those who don't know what is
- 1:42Fuel Fed in a nutshell and I guess specifically talk to us
- 1:44about Fuel Fed Boulder. It all started with our pal
- 1:48Brian Hughes, didn't it? Yeah.
- 1:51So it started in 2010, so Brian in Chicago.
- 1:54So Brian Hughes was kind of a big car guy up in the North Side
- 1:57of Chicago and kind of had all the connections and growing up
- 2:00there and had been racing and driving for a long time.
- 2:04And he had started doing this event in Winnetka.
- 2:07Just really had a very specific vibe.
- 2:09And he started leaning into the idea of a classic European car
- 2:12show only and kind of went in turned into kind of a a
- 2:16membership model where he was able to raise money and kind of
- 2:19curate this event and curate kind of additional events and
- 2:22drives that kind of came off that.
- 2:24And that's where we where we met.
- 2:26We were talking earlier back in 2014, so ages ago, and it just
- 2:31started to build just really great camaraderie.
- 2:33And through this, pardon the pun, it's always terrible, but
- 2:36the vehicle of classic European cars and classic being 25 years
- 2:41and older. And so now, and if you, if
- 2:45you're old saying this, but 20 or 2001 and older cars are kind
- 2:50of the the core demographic of the event.
- 2:53So now as we Fast forward to Boulder, so I'd been in Chicago
- 2:57for a long time and worked with Brian on that event and
- 2:59volunteered going to help behind the scenes for a long time.
- 3:02I moved back to Boulder here in Colorado and immediately just
- 3:06found the car scene. I always kind of knew it was
- 3:08here with cars and lack of salt, and that's just.
- 3:13Relatively lack of salt relative.
- 3:16Relative, hey. Like our cars don't to Chicago,
- 3:19they don't just melt away underneath and.
- 3:21It's dry for the most part. For the most part, it's dry.
- 3:25We'll say there's a long driving season.
- 3:27We'll say it that. Yes, yes.
- 3:30So this is very conducive to cars and I think with within
- 3:33Boulder here, there's some some extremely passionate people,
- 3:36There's a lot of just interesting people.
- 3:38So started hosting this actually back in 2021 and we started with
- 3:42six cars. We now do 175 and there's a
- 3:47great cast of regulars, everything from like Carmen Kias
- 3:51and Triumphs to the Ferrari crew to all sorts of different
- 3:56Porsches. And there's always something or
- 4:01five things that show up that you're just like, all right,
- 4:03that's never been here before. No one's ever seen that before.
- 4:07Where did that come from? We had Alanci Estrados.
- 4:12It's just been just kind of a wild rotating marquee of things
- 4:17that kind of show up every single month now in Boulder and
- 4:20it and it's kind of become this this safe place to kind of bring
- 4:23out these things that don't normally come out and and it's
- 4:27kind of a special event in that respect.
- 4:30And we, we. You you have some shocking stuff
- 4:33that comes out. I, I, I almost want to ask you
- 4:35like the top five, but stuff that wasn't sold in the States,
- 4:38right, like Alpenes, right, European market, Lotus Elises,
- 4:45right. I mean stuff that's just you
- 4:48just won't see anywhere else. You know, these aren't
- 4:50necessarily the, the, you know, the blue chip stuff, but you
- 4:52know, even the lesser stuff is amazing.
- 4:54And then you get the into the blue chip stuff.
- 4:56You've had vintage Bugattis. Yep, and Bugattis we've had.
- 5:02Let's see here. AC like an AC Ace, unmodified,
- 5:06owned since 1962 we've had. Sterling Moss's DB4 GT that he
- 5:12raced for the Bahama series. 88 liter and eight liter.
- 5:16Bentley with Vaud and Blas coach work had some crazy stuff.
- 5:21Multiple, multiple Kundash's. Like I said, Estrados.
- 5:25We've had Pugani ratio Pagani's first designed Diablo 30th
- 5:30anniversary edition and they just like they sneak in and
- 5:34they're sitting there and no one realized like, wait a minute.
- 5:36Oh, that's the the special edition this and that.
- 5:38Yeah. But really it's it's just become
- 5:41such a great community there and kind of a connector of of people
- 5:44and long time Colorado car folk and it's just just a great time.
- 5:49I just kind of become a place where we kind of gather the, the
- 5:52last Sunday of the month, April through October and just just
- 5:56kind of hang out and see. And again, it's, it's not always
- 5:59about blue chip. It's not about the value.
- 6:01There's a lot of things that's neat, rare, interesting, right
- 6:05and unique. They're just fun.
- 6:06You, you have had, I want to keep keep this conversation
- 6:09going. I want you to brag a little bit
- 6:10more because you have had a row of F 40s, right?
- 6:13Last time you saw a row of F 40s outside of car week, you have
- 6:16had like, you know, 90 mile Volkswagen Gtis from, you know,
- 6:211981, right? I mean, this kind of thing, it's
- 6:24just. 20 It's a 2300 miles 20. 300 miles.
- 6:28Well, in that case, forget it, Ryan.
- 6:29Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm out.
- 6:31I'm out, you know. But I mean, this is this is any
- 6:34given Sunday, right? This is any given Sunday you can
- 6:38show. Up Sunday morning open, totally
- 6:40free event. If you have a qualifying car,
- 6:42you can park. If you don't have a qualifying
- 6:44car, you can walk in absolutely for free.
- 6:46Yeah, and to kind of it, it always takes me these these
- 6:50moments to try to think of my most magical, you know, this,
- 6:53what moments you're sitting there and hear some wild exhaust
- 6:56coming around the corner for the first time.
- 6:58Well. What haven't you had?
- 7:00Like what's what's your what's your bucket list car?
- 7:03I mean, what's? Things are really well, we're
- 7:06coming into Enzo. I'd like an Enzo.
- 7:08So as you talk about. So there's definitely like as
- 7:11you come into the the quote UN quote with 25 year an older
- 7:15window, right, there's always some kind of some things that
- 7:17start creeping in there, right. I mean, we haven't had a 288 GTO
- 7:22like that. Would that would be pretty
- 7:24amazing to see it kind of to in the Ferrari realm.
- 7:27Yeah, I mean we're starting to cross off some good Lancia.
- 7:31Oh, all right. So as a mark and mark, there's
- 7:34one mark that is very specifically missing.
- 7:37OK. And to my knowledge is Maserati,
- 7:40Yeah, we have not like we we've not there.
- 7:42There may have been 1 snuck in. I'm not gonna kill like the one
- 7:45Chrysler Maserati that may or may not have been over.
- 7:47There there was a there was a biturbo that came one OK.
- 7:51That doesn't doesn't down. Yeah, deeply at home or
- 7:54whatever. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:56Like a Bora, like I would go for like a Bora 49, but like some.
- 7:59Very correct. A MARAC, Yeah.
- 8:02Barack, I guess, yeah, yeah. 200 S or something.
- 8:05Or you know. Or I mean, we know people with
- 8:082500 GTS floating around. Someone needs to bring it out,
- 8:11yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:12The 2500 GT I think would be a top choice.
- 8:15Yeah, I mean, this is kind of where you are though.
- 8:17We're talking about some some sort of esoteric stuff.
- 8:20I mean, you have had, you know, I mean just about everything.
- 8:23Have you had a McLaren F1? If not in a McLaren F1 haven't
- 8:28had a 5 like 959. So they put throw that one up
- 8:32there. We are working on that for Zoof
- 8:34and go though, so don't guarantees yet, but sneak maybe
- 8:40I'm trying to think like, yeah, what else?
- 8:41What else? Like really we haven't had like
- 8:43the Super super super car of the 90s, you know like not like a
- 8:47newer Bugatti. We've had older Bugattis.
- 8:49Yeah. No EV1.
- 8:50Ten haven't had a Veyron. I haven't had any.
- 8:52Yeah, let's, let's see what else?
- 8:56XJ220I mean those, Do we have one of those around?
- 8:59I haven't heard of one around that would be a fun one to see.
- 9:03It would and a Lamborghini lamb. The big 4 by 4 would be kind.
- 9:07Of that would the yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:10That's there was one at Morgan Adams, so I know that there was
- 9:141 floating about. We've had a couple of Unimog's.
- 9:17I mean, one that was, you know, every bit of God 15 feet tall.
- 9:22It blocked the sun. I was parking cars and I looked,
- 9:25I looked up and I was like, man, wow.
- 9:27We got some cloud cover and it was just a Unimog roll.
- 9:31Yeah, Yeah, we could. We get like 300 SLS and gull
- 9:34wings. Well.
- 9:34That's yeah, I just do work like time.
- 9:36And stop by all the 356's. Yeah, yeah, like you start
- 9:42getting down into as Derek was, was saying there's, you know, a
- 9:46well known car that's a SMR DB4 GT.
- 9:49It was, you know, famously driven by Sterling Moss during
- 9:52this Bahamas speed week. And you know, it just it just
- 9:55comes by and we'll see if we'll see if the owner is in is free
- 9:58that morning. I mean, we've had Myron Vernus
- 10:01on the show. Who's known?
- 10:02He's a collector known for his oddball stuff.
- 10:03Myron Vernus unfortunately lives in Akron, OH, but we have a lot
- 10:07of those kinds of cars here, and they've shown up.
- 10:10Like what is that that alpha, that Zagato, right that that
- 10:16that wedge shaped alpha? Do you?
- 10:18Remember, that's the that's the that's dance car.
- 10:22That's the that it wasn't that wasn't a Zagato.
- 10:25That was Sprint Julietta. That was.
- 10:27Julietta Sprint. Speciola.
- 10:28That was the Sprint. Speciola.
- 10:29Yeah, the Julietta. I thought I saw Zagato SZ once
- 10:33there, but maybe? We did have, there isn't.
- 10:35Yeah, we did have an SZ. OK.
- 10:38I wasn't there that day. Like, yeah, I feel like we're
- 10:39gonna run through most of the Italian stuff.
- 10:41I'm. Derek was shilling the Zorbent.
- 10:44Well. The rest of us, we're taking in
- 10:46the They're an unusual car. I'm I'm a, I'm a pre war guy, so
- 10:50I'm I'm drooling over the stuff that's leaking all over the
- 10:52place. So.
- 10:53We'll get to that. We'll get there.
- 10:55Yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah, again, you know,
- 10:57big like blower Bentleys and and all this stuff.
- 10:59It's just really, you know, I mean, we have some really good
- 11:02gatherings here. You know, I'll give a shout out
- 11:04to our our buddy Willis and cars at the wall.
- 11:06But, you know, fuel fed is, is a very specific thing and that,
- 11:09you know, to your point, it's 25 years and older generally.
- 11:11You know, obviously you and I want to talk a little bit about
- 11:15the gatekeeping, right, because you do have this 25 year and
- 11:18older rule. But some of us will sometimes
- 11:21sneak in with something a little newer if it's, you know, you
- 11:24know, a little earlier than ever.
- 11:25But what have you turned away? Oh.
- 11:28Man, what's the? I'm letting you fall on this
- 11:31grenade. Mike, this is definitely this.
- 11:33What? Which?
- 11:34Enemies in the Boulder community, have you?
- 11:36Have you made the greater Boulder community?
- 11:38Now a word from our response. And this is 100% the hardest,
- 11:46the hardest question, the hardest part.
- 11:48And I mean, as we say, it's, it is kind of a curated event to
- 11:51some extent. But it, it as we've grown, there
- 11:55was always kind of a little extra space.
- 11:58And it was when there was extra space, there's, it's really hard
- 12:00to go turn down newer things. And the newer things I'm saying
- 12:04like, oh, I think my, my, like I this is a really nice GT2Y sock.
- 12:11Like there's a spot down between the GT3Y sock.
- 12:15Sure, like you, you can't miss it, right?
- 12:17And like, so it was kind of the I'm turning away or like you
- 12:21guys can park in the overflow parking and then, you know, we'd
- 12:24have a row of like, you know, then there's the 17 Spyder, like
- 12:29right there and they're all in. Sure, whatever, paint a sample.
- 12:32Crazy thing. And that was the overflow.
- 12:34And I apologize, I don't keep up with all the newest Mark McLaren
- 12:38Mark name things. Yeah.
- 12:40Yeah. Probably some.
- 12:41Probably something with A7. Probably.
- 12:43Definitely got this old just read.
- 12:46Just turn around and read what the numbers on your printer.
- 12:49That's a McLaren. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:51Your HP Yeah. I remember going to the very
- 12:54first one that you put together and we should go back.
- 12:57So, yeah. So Fuel Fed Chicago, we used to
- 12:59do these amazing drives. Some of the best memories of my
- 13:01life. We used to, I used to go back,
- 13:03used to drive back to Wisconsin from Colorado to do some of
- 13:06these these drives. But you know, I've credited
- 13:09Brian and Fuel Fed for really getting me back into sports cars
- 13:13as an adult, right after having lived in Chicago for many years
- 13:16and not having had a car. So fuel fed is, is, you know, I
- 13:19mean, I, I, it's, it's been this glue, right, that has has, you
- 13:22know, bound a lot of us together.
- 13:23But when I moved to Colorado, I, I, I sort of entertained the
- 13:28idea of maybe I should start a fuel fed thing here.
- 13:31Brian didn't seem to latch on to it, but but you seem to be the
- 13:34one. And I remember when you started.
- 13:37Throwing. Brian, you.
- 13:42Know he was the right guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:48But, but, but, you know, that first event, I remember there
- 13:51were just a handful of cars weren't there.
- 13:54And it's grown again. So far, so much.
- 13:57Started really really small. I remember the, the second event
- 14:02now very, very good friend of mine came and pulled up in the,
- 14:05I would say the, the color wrong, but the tennis ball
- 14:08bright neon green 2002 TII that he had like literally just
- 14:14tightened the last bolt on a nut and bolt restoration.
- 14:17And I'm talking like I would have eaten off of any surface of
- 14:20this vehicle. And that thing pulled up and it
- 14:23was, you know, one of the 12 cars at the second event.
- 14:26And you're just like, OK, wait a minute.
- 14:28Like there's, there are people here like this is this is I'm on
- 14:33to this thing. And then, you know, Fast forward
- 14:36a little while later and I, because a woman lived near me
- 14:40and would always blow by me in her TR 6.
- 14:43You know, it was always like, you know, you kind of see out
- 14:45the window like, oh, there she goes again.
- 14:46There she goes. And and finally I ran into her
- 14:50in her 356 Roadster sitting at the gas station putting put two
- 14:58and two together. And I won't reveal names, but
- 15:00it's like a very influential, important person in the car
- 15:03world. And just my neighbor was just
- 15:06blowing by me and now is, you know, a huge proponent and
- 15:08always brings fun cars. So, So Ryan, I think as you were
- 15:12kind of saying, just to me, it's it's about this community that
- 15:16it brings people together. And I think it's just a a
- 15:19healthy thing to do things kind of in the real world together
- 15:23with our cars. And it's it's less about hosting
- 15:27things online and then bragging about it online.
- 15:29It's like, no, just come on to your go for a drive.
- 15:32If you take a photo, fantastic. Like what you want with it.
- 15:36Like no tags. No, like don't care about how
- 15:39many likes or tags that happen. Like it's not about that.
- 15:42It's about just coming and being part of the community.
- 15:45And you do something cool too. And just the location, right is
- 15:48is thoughtful and the location is considered.
- 15:50You're not just in a parking lot at an outlet mall, right?
- 15:52You are on Pearl St., You're in, you're in, you're in Boulder.
- 15:56But you're not, you know, you're, you're far enough away
- 15:58from like downtown where, you know, it's kind of residential.
- 16:02And you've very successfully been able to keep doing that,
- 16:06right? You know, so you're, you're
- 16:07curating something that that, you know, has, I guess has
- 16:11passed muster with the community, which is a challenge
- 16:14in and of itself, right? Which is which is cool.
- 16:17Like Boulder is a city Boulder, like the business community, all
- 16:20the businesses locally are all super supportive.
- 16:24If you're ever in Boulder, go to the Lolita's, go to Spruce
- 16:26Confections, go to A Piece of Love Chocolate Now.
- 16:29They're super happy to be there. They're super happy for the
- 16:31extra business. Yeah, Lolita sounds like the
- 16:34most scandalous mini Mart. In all of the land but.
- 16:39It is, yeah. Go get the breakfast.
- 16:41Go get the burritos. Go get the sandwiches.
- 16:43Go get the Stanley Kubrick breakfast.
- 16:45Sandwich. That's right.
- 16:46Be careful while you look right. Yeah, that's you alluded to this
- 16:51too. You know, the Colorado car scene
- 16:53I think is really unique for a, for a, you know, a metro area
- 16:56our size, Denver, Boulder, right, Colorado Springs, Fort
- 16:59Collins, whatever, Front Range. I think it's one of the the best
- 17:03car scenes in the country. You have this confluence of
- 17:05great roads, great cars, great people.
- 17:08A lot of those people have money, which kind of helps, you
- 17:11know, lubricate things, right? We have events like the grand,
- 17:14right? But what is it?
- 17:16I mean, what what we're very fortunate here because I think
- 17:18the caliber of cars here is second to maybe nowhere, but
- 17:23like, I don't know, LA honestly, or maybe Seattle, Lindsay, I
- 17:27don't know. It's Seattle's got some a lot of
- 17:30those. Same things I I was fortunate to
- 17:34have lived in both places. Moved here from moved here from
- 17:37LA, but did my undergrad in Seattle and used to used to
- 17:41ranch at a Porsche shop up there during the summers.
- 17:44And Seattle has a fantastic car culture.
- 17:46But I mean you can use the cars four months a year.
- 17:49Yeah, that's which is always rough.
- 17:51And and in Colorado I was, I was worried when I moved out here
- 17:55having been in, you know, the hub of, of automotive culture in
- 17:58the US is Lai mean it's as you know, Jay Leno has rightly
- 18:03pointed out, you know, that's during fifties, 60s, that was
- 18:07the hub of aerospace and engineering.
- 18:08And they always would buy interesting stuff.
- 18:11And so whatever car you wanted, it was within 60 miles of LA and
- 18:16you could drive them year round. And I was, I was a little bit
- 18:20concerned about the level of involvement with vintage cars
- 18:23moving out to Colorado and was absolutely blown away, right.
- 18:26And I think you're entirely right that Colorado second to
- 18:30Lai think has the best car culture in the in the US.
- 18:33And I think a lot of it comes down to the usability factor.
- 18:37We have the great roads, but we don't have the population
- 18:40density. So I loved living in California,
- 18:42but you go out on a Sunday, everyone's out on a Sunday, and
- 18:46you're stuck in traffic in your car, worrying about the
- 18:48temperature gauge rather than enjoying yourself.
- 18:50Whereas here, things are spread out, it's still dry, things
- 18:53don't rust, and there's enough money to support the hobby.
- 18:59And then there's just a lot of great technicians and artisans
- 19:04that have set up shop here in Colorado.
- 19:06And so if you have a car, regardless of the vintage,
- 19:09there's going to be someone that can help you with it, which is,
- 19:12you know, becoming more and more rare.
- 19:14Well, and that's a big thing. I really kind of want to lean
- 19:16into. Cars.
- 19:18Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 19:20Between having the mechanics, I mean all the mechanics from the
- 19:22grand are all absolute top notch and go out there.
- 19:24And as you know, if we built this community and continue to
- 19:27know folks within the, the cop echelon of Concorde stuff.
- 19:32I mean, we have multiple individuals that have 1 Pebble
- 19:35Beach, either as owners, as artisans, are regulars at our
- 19:41show. The, you know, the, the, the 57,
- 19:45the Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic, multiple people that worked on
- 19:50that car have brought cars and are and are regulars at the
- 19:53event, Multiple painters. You already mentioned Valentina.
- 19:57It's just really incredible the the talent and, and like is the
- 20:03the talent base that is here. So if you want to do something,
- 20:07it really you have that ability to to reach out and find that
- 20:11right person. And to me, just, you know,
- 20:13getting that community. Supported and and kind of be
- 20:16getting that virtuous cycle completed.
- 20:18And if something that's really special about the way that the
- 20:21classic car market is kind of moving, especially as somebody
- 20:25that really loves pre war, I get a lot of people asking whether
- 20:28or not they feel that there's going to be any interest.
- 20:30And I say that yes, there is, but it's moving away from static
- 20:34sculpture to usability. You know, now the Auburn court
- 20:38Duisenberg neat isn't just a concourse, it's 1000 mile rally.
- 20:41So you get shops like straight 8 popping up that are like, OK, we
- 20:44can make your Duesenberg reliable.
- 20:46And so now people are actually using these things.
- 20:48And it's something that Mike has done so brilliantly with Fuel
- 20:51Fed is he's getting people to bring things out of the garages.
- 20:55When we first, you know, when I first started coming to Fuel
- 20:58Fed, I think I was at the second or third meet where there were
- 21:01still five of us freezing our balls off in the middle of the
- 21:03street going. We like cars.
- 21:07People would people would show up in like, I'm going to bring
- 21:10my F type. I don't want to be too flashy.
- 21:14Let's see what people are going to be bringing stuff.
- 21:16And then all of a sudden now people are like, Oh my God, I've
- 21:18got an excuse to bring out this really special thing that
- 21:24otherwise is kind of living in a garage.
- 21:26And it encourages people to actually use them.
- 21:28And with the, the sponsorship people that Mike has put
- 21:31together for the event, you know, you get, you know,
- 21:35customizers and restorers and people that actually maintain
- 21:39and work on these cars to show up and advertise.
- 21:42And so people are more encouraged to use them.
- 21:44And so I really do think that I I really do credit Mikes work
- 21:49with fuel Fed with increasing the amount of just.
- 21:52It's a weekend. I'm just gonna be driving
- 21:55around. Look what just passed me.
- 21:57Yeah. And that's a really lovely
- 21:59thing. I mean, I've heard a couple of
- 22:01stories parking cars at Fuel Fed of people that we're just out
- 22:06for a Sunday drive gassing up and another car that knew about
- 22:11Fuel Fed was getting gas and said, hey, you should come join
- 22:14this event. And they had no idea and they
- 22:15just followed them and it's just great.
- 22:18Here's here's a good story in that front.
- 22:20One time we had 3960 eights all pulled in together and they had
- 22:25found two other 960 eights on the way we had.
- 22:32There was five of them in one place.
- 22:34And none of them were. None of them were the same
- 22:36color. It was all a showroom.
- 22:38It was hilarious. Wow.
- 22:40I mean, how many of those are left right?
- 22:42You know that's. Seven, right?
- 22:44Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:46Well, I've seen like more than one.
- 22:49Is it the M110 Lotus salon, like the one from the early 90s?
- 22:52I've seen more than one at a time.
- 22:54You know, I mean, again, how many of those are left, right?
- 22:57It's just the stuff you've forgotten about, right?
- 23:00The just the. But that's the coolest stuff.
- 23:02I mean, you know, who cares about your new Ferrari, right?
- 23:04Yeah, this. Stuff is, yeah.
- 23:07I like to care. About your new Ferrari, yeah.
- 23:10No whatever. Just like a.
- 23:12I like the the vintage Saab and Volvo crowd who see how much
- 23:15outdoor gear they can shove on their roof racks.
- 23:18They're just some of my favorite people.
- 23:19It's. Awesome.
- 23:21Oh yeah, I will say that if if yeah, if you show up with a car
- 23:24with a bike on it, you will get a premium parking spot,
- 23:27guaranteed. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:29Well, shout out to our buddy Matt to Scandamaniac on on
- 23:34Instagram. Who's got a beautiful is it a is
- 23:37it a 2000? What's his 1800?
- 23:39The green one The. 100. Yeah. 1800.
- 23:43Yeah, yeah, yeah. That usually has, I don't know,
- 23:46skis and everything else. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:49Did that car show sticker for that matter?
- 23:51Yeah, but it's the yeah, absolutely a reliable car and
- 23:57skis on it. It's the.
- 23:59Stickers, it sounds like, Yeah. But the way that the events
- 24:03going, talking about having to unfortunately move cars into
- 24:07overflow and everything else, it's only because Mike has gone
- 24:12through the trouble to permit the event with the city because
- 24:14they enjoy it. And it's a designated parking
- 24:17space and a designated area, which is great because if you
- 24:20get the safety of the cars, it's all walking traffic.
- 24:23But the turning away is just a space issue.
- 24:25It's not, it's not in any way to, it's not in any way to
- 24:28discourage people. Coming out and breaking cars,
- 24:30it's literally it's. Literally just like it's
- 24:33literally just, Oh my God, at this point, you know, you have
- 24:35to be strict because yeah, yeah, it's now we're at capacity,
- 24:39which is a great problem to have.
- 24:41Special, right? I mean, this is, you know,
- 24:43Boulder stole, uh, Sundance right, from Park City recently,
- 24:47you know? So this is the level of, you
- 24:49know, affair they're putting on, right?
- 24:52I mean, technically, technically red, technically Redford offered
- 24:55it to Boulder 1st and we said no.
- 24:58So we're just getting it. I don't know the whole SO.
- 25:00We're gonna. Use stole relative but that car
- 25:03show's bringing. You all borrowed more
- 25:05permanently. You know, it's you know, it's,
- 25:07but this is the level of, you know, this is this is what we're
- 25:10doing in Boulder. And so, you know, the fact that
- 25:13you know, and and and fuel fed is is, you know, thought of it
- 25:15that at that level, right, just waiting for the fuel fed Film
- 25:19Festival to, you know. We're just gonna, we're just
- 25:23gonna, we're just gonna, oh, what?
- 25:24We're gonna just gonna show La Rendezvous over and over and
- 25:27over. That's all that matters.
- 25:29Maybe that 5 minutes from Ronan, right?
- 25:31Exactly. There you go.
- 25:32There you go. Yeah, Perfect.
- 25:34I was gonna say yeah. The opening of The Italian Job
- 25:36and we end with Ronan and Bullet.
- 25:38Work at right? It's the shortest build.
- 25:40The original or Oh yeah remake. OK.
- 25:44Or maybe like a double feature with both and then you gotta
- 25:47throw the double. But only the car scene.
- 25:49So it's a double feature that lasts a combined total of 15
- 25:52minutes, right? Right.
- 25:53It's a very short Film Festival, but.
- 25:55Yeah, but the real reason we're here today, I guess, is to talk
- 25:59about Zuf. Is it Zufin grupa or Zufin
- 26:01group? I feel like, however, I say
- 26:02Zufin Groupa, Zufin Grufin group.
- 26:04But it's Zufin Grupa. Yeah.
- 26:06Porsche Zufin Grupa. OK.
- 26:08And and. And so, you know, if you have
- 26:09been to Air Water, you know, this is very much in the spirit
- 26:13of of that. This is a I don't want to say
- 26:16Porsche only because I think you're open to some other
- 26:18special Germans, but this is an event that will take place at an
- 26:23airport. I think there might even be some
- 26:25planes involved as as well. But this is this is this is
- 26:28going to be a you really turn it up a notch with with zoo phone
- 26:32group, aren't you? So it's kind of yeah, trying to
- 26:35kind of pull the the best that we know of and a few things that
- 26:39haven't been out to to other fuel fed events on October 4th
- 26:42at the Boulder airport. This is going to be, they're
- 26:45kind of open to a plethora of German cars.
- 26:47So everything from some really wild and interesting VWS, you
- 26:50know, buses, SP twos and low mileage Rabbits, things like
- 26:55that, to Mercedes SL, Mercedes 300 SLS, to a variety of
- 27:03Porsches. We are bringing in airplanes.
- 27:05The point here is that we're parking these things out on the
- 27:09the Boulder Municipal Airport tarmac.
- 27:11We'll have DJs and food trucks. Just go check out Zuffungrupa
- 27:15colorado.com. If you just Google that or look
- 27:19into it or we'll we'll post something here.
- 27:21I was going to say do. You want to spell that for
- 27:23everybody? ZZUFFE Oh no, I'm not even going
- 27:29to try the. Worst.
- 27:32Color is through the universe. I'm not going to do it blind.
- 27:34But no ZUFFENGRUPP. Yes, look at that.
- 27:41You did, yeah. Yeah, yeah, all the points.
- 27:47We we need like the the Sesame Song, like get across all this.
- 27:51Right. So Mike, which which airplanes
- 27:53will be at the event or can you share at least a few that's like
- 27:57I would love to hear about that? So we're working on that.
- 28:01We're trying to find, but we should have a couple pre war
- 28:05things we're working on actually or World War 2 vintage, working
- 28:10on a couple of German like flat 6 type of powered things.
- 28:14So definitely some interesting unique airplanes, not just not
- 28:20just the G650 year, you know, something that we're just going
- 28:23to roll off. Hey, I heard a lot.
- 28:24Hey, bring that over. Here I'm just, I'm just saying,
- 28:26you know, I don't want to build this up too much, but.
- 28:29That's for the finale, that's. Gonna buzz the.
- 28:37The humanity, yeah, Wow. But it's, it's enough Time has
- 28:43passed. It's OK.
- 28:44Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:45But we've got some Absolutely Fabulous cars we have, like
- 28:49Bobby Allison's I Rock, GG Blue Porsche RSR.
- 28:55Yeah, we have a fight, another Viper green RSR, just to round
- 28:59that out. Working on a multitude of 300
- 29:04SLS in various configurations, including one very rare
- 29:08configuration that is not going or roadster, if you will.
- 29:12OK, there's a teaser there again, a bunch of a bunch of
- 29:18Volkswagens, multitude of BMWs you got Alpinas to to what 8850
- 29:27manuals? So really just trying to kind of
- 29:30bring together just these things that you don't normally see and
- 29:34get them together in a beautiful spot with, you know, good food.
- 29:37We've got some really high end food trucks.
- 29:40So not just kind of your, not just your Schnitzel.
- 29:43So, so really good times, good stuff.
- 29:45If you want to display a car free, register again Zufen
- 29:48Grupa, colorado.com. As a spectator, you're more than
- 29:52welcome. Parking is free.
- 29:55It's a $10.00 with door per head.
- 29:58If you have a car that's 25 years and newer, we have kind of
- 30:02a special parking area where we're lining up.
- 30:05So if you've got that Wysock package, if you've got that Audi
- 30:09RS7, if you've got, you know, a cool Porsche build, if you've
- 30:13got something that's kind of the we're going modern Audubon Row,
- 30:17I think we'll have a sport classic in there.
- 30:19You know, just to just sitting there on the side, it's just
- 30:22kind of give you a sense of those types of things.
- 30:24And that'll be kind of part of the from, from kind of where you
- 30:27have to park getting over kind of to the main event just to
- 30:30kind of prime things up and make it worthwhile.
- 30:33And just in case you can't figure out how many FS and PS
- 30:36are in Zoof and Grupa, it's the event is on October 4th. 10
- 30:41four. You can't forget that 10/4. 10/4
- 30:43right when? Do when do do doors open, Mike?
- 30:47So it's again 12:50. 12:50 Yeah. 12:50 on 10/4 and I wore the
- 30:53right shirt without even realizing.
- 30:55Roger, there you go. Totally.
- 30:57So spread the word. I think the VW is a, a super
- 31:00great group out here as well. And the the, the buses and the
- 31:04hippie buses and The Beatles have been here a long time and
- 31:07there's a lot of really, really good ones.
- 31:09Not to mention all the Westfalia.
- 31:10Then we're now all the way up to Euro vans now and you got some
- 31:13some super crazy old builds. So what happens if somebody
- 31:16shows? Up there's a straw.
- 31:20There you go, the. Overflow.
- 31:23That's in the area. We've had, we've had.
- 31:25We've had I eights, we've had. Yeah, yeah, but it goes without
- 31:29saying Boulder is a, you know, it's got a hippie history and so
- 31:33pretty strong Volkswagen town. Lindsay, maybe you and Tori
- 31:37should get out for for. That I know.
- 31:39I'm thinking road trip. That's what I'm hearing, yeah.
- 31:42Yeah, this. Is how hardcore Lindsay is they
- 31:45she and her husband Tori bought AGT 4 and where was it?
- 31:50Kansas City, MO. We were just talking about the
- 31:52Missouri the other night. We were reminiscing Kansas City,
- 31:55MO and it has carbon buckets. Everyone loves to talk about
- 31:59that and it's also. Straight piped.
- 32:03And it's straight, but can we have a moment for the blue
- 32:07wheels, which is one of my favorite parts?
- 32:09There. You go.
- 32:12Just because the blue wheels are.
- 32:13Probably the. Yeah, by the wayside anyway.
- 32:15They drove through Denver and so.
- 32:17Yeah, We flew to Kansas City. We met up there, picked up the
- 32:21car and immediately got on the road.
- 32:22And we went to what ultimately turned out to be the saddest car
- 32:26museum we've ever been to, which was like, and we don't know what
- 32:31it was called. Couldn't tell you what town it
- 32:32was. It was an hour.
- 32:35No, it was an hour West of Kansas City, MO, and they were
- 32:38supposed to have a Doc Hudson replica, but we wanted to take a
- 32:43picture of it for my daughter. And we walked in and the whole
- 32:47museum maybe had 50 cars. And pretty quickly we realized
- 32:51they were all yellow. So cue the song.
- 32:55And so we did a quick lap and then we're like, we're stuck.
- 32:59And so we went up to the counter and it's these kids that like,
- 33:02you know, this is their minimum wage job.
- 33:05They're not there because they love cars.
- 33:07We're like, right. So quick question.
- 33:09Could you point us to Doc? And they were like, Doc hasn't
- 33:12been here in a long time. Still on his website I'm sure.
- 33:16Still on the website anyway. Yeah.
- 33:19So we drove it. We did.
- 33:21Our inaugural, you know, connection with the car was a
- 33:242000 mile road trip. Nice, it was the best way.
- 33:28Yeah, and we got to stop and see.
- 33:29Ryan that which was fun. We had lunch and yeah, yeah, it.
- 33:34Yeah, It. I don't know if you ever drive
- 33:36as an I-80 through Nebraska. I think there's a place that
- 33:40might beat that. The last time I checked, I think
- 33:42it had officially closed down, but it was an Oldsmobile,
- 33:45primarily museum, but it wasn't like they're cool Oldsmobiles.
- 33:49I don't know, it was just like 4 door cup of Supremes and this
- 33:52kind of stuff. Do you know the one?
- 33:53Derek, you have. Fire, like her heart is against
- 33:56the inner. There are some, there are some
- 33:58cool. There are some cool Oldsmobiles,
- 34:00but it's been a while. OK, OK, So you've been there?
- 34:03You've been there? Yeah.
- 34:03I I. I have I have kind of seen I'm
- 34:06I'm a sucker for a I'm a sucker for a tourist trap.
- 34:09I really like when I was I drove coast to coast a couple of times
- 34:12and I'm I'm the guy being like, oh, the world's largest rubber
- 34:15band balls in Akron. Oh, well, I'll take but I did, I
- 34:19did stop off in there and I was kind of shocked at how many
- 34:22malaise era cars that are now collectible.
- 34:26I'm like, I'm like, do we really need to do we really need to
- 34:29keep an old 350 diesel for posterity?
- 34:32It's more of a warning to history, but yeah, it's.
- 34:36Unless we forget. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:39This, this is what you get for roadside attractions in western
- 34:41Nebraska. There is the world's largest,
- 34:43uh, covered wagon, which has been in disrepair for about 30
- 34:46years. I got out of the car immediately
- 34:48stepped into a pile of human shit.
- 34:50But this is kind of where, where we are with roadside attractions
- 34:53between here and I guess Lincoln.
- 34:55But. Yeah, we got the Union Pacific
- 34:57Museum at Omaha. You do if you're into the golden
- 34:59spike. That's good stuff, but.
- 35:01Apparently it's not where they actually did the golden spikes.
- 35:03No, that's in Utah that. Was.
- 35:06Utah. Yeah, that's in Utah.
- 35:07That's just where the train is. That's OK.
- 35:10OK, well, Zoofing group, check it out.
- 35:14It's going to be an awesome event.
- 35:16You might even have a live podcast.
- 35:18You know if if if. Only our favorite podcast.
- 35:21That's. That's right, might even
- 35:23remember the power cord at this time anyway.
- 35:29And, and just as a clarification, I think kind of
- 35:31interesting thing. So we were doing this in
- 35:32conjunction with, with Zoof and Grupo in the Burlington Airport
- 35:36in Wisconsin the same day. So can't make.
- 35:40So yes, if you can't make Colorado and you're in the
- 35:44Midwest somewhere in Chicago or Wisconsin area or anywhere
- 35:47nearby, go check out that one. So we're doing kind of a a dual
- 35:51car show, same theme, same place, Burlington Airport,
- 35:55Boulder Airport, same day, same time, the same theme.
- 35:58Yeah. So check it out.
- 36:00Absolutely. And you know guys, we are how
- 36:04many days away from the Colorado Grand. 05 drive up on Monday.
- 36:10Highlight of a year? What are you guys running this
- 36:12year? Because it wasn't what I thought
- 36:13you were going to run. We're are we allowed to even?
- 36:18Yeah, we're talking. About that, we have approval.
- 36:21Yeah, we are, we're that's fine. So no, we're, we're running,
- 36:25we're running a 59 Corvette this year, which is a lot of fun.
- 36:29It's fantastic. It's not, it's not something you
- 36:31normally see on the grand, hence the joke about about not not
- 36:36really mentioning it. And it's, and it's mostly just
- 36:38because the the grand is is 1959 and earlier in kind of kind of
- 36:44an homage to the meal Emilia, which is 57.
- 36:47Same thing with the cow Meala, but they decided 59 when the
- 36:50grand started 37 years ago. And the the Corvette qualifies.
- 36:55It's a lot of fun. And you know, when you're
- 36:59driving through the middle of Colorado, people want to people
- 37:02want to see some American muscle.
- 37:04Sometimes it's it's funny, last year we we ran it as well and we
- 37:07were parallel parking in between, you know, a prototype
- 37:11pontoon Ferrari just hand fabricated by Scalietti and the
- 37:15D type Jag that took second in the 58 Lamar.
- 37:18And these guys came up, looked at the vet and just go best car
- 37:21here. From realist to God's ears.
- 37:26And it's. Yeah.
- 37:27Well, it's, I mean, it's because it's because people have a
- 37:29connection to it. Nobody, nobody, nobody's dad had
- 37:33a 250 short wheelbase and you know, you know, the middle of
- 37:36nowhere. So you know, it's but but yeah,
- 37:40so we're we're going to be ripping that this year.
- 37:42It'll be a. It'll be a lot of fun.
- 37:43Yeah. And is there a story like with
- 37:46the car, like with your connection to the car, like how
- 37:49you? So the car, yeah, well, so the
- 37:52car actually was one of the first ones that I restored
- 37:56completely. I built it 25 odd years ago for
- 37:58my dad and it was just yeah, it was.
- 38:02It's an unusual color combination high optioned car.
- 38:06It's a Snowcrest white, Grecian Gray coves, black interior.
- 38:10It's a 283 dual 4 positive traction 4 speed car.
- 38:15And it was just kind of an untouched original.
- 38:17It was originally delivered to the Los Angeles area in late 58
- 38:22and found it back when they were just used cars and you can
- 38:27afford, can afford to do this stuff.
- 38:30And so I restored it for him and he loved it, but he didn't
- 38:35really drive it much. We're we're originally from Las
- 38:37Vegas and which is where he still lives.
- 38:39And, you know, a summer's day in Vegas, the last thing you want
- 38:42to be in is an in an open top car with, you know, vinyl seats.
- 38:47So eventually he downsized and I got the car back and
- 38:53cosmetically it looked great, but I mean because of the desert
- 38:56heat everything with a rubber seal had gone.
- 38:59So I sorted it as best as I could.
- 39:01We ran it last year and it did really well, finished no
- 39:05problems, but I ended up with a laundry list of shit to take
- 39:08care of for the following year. So now it's fully sorted.
- 39:12Now we should actually have a little bit more fun and a little
- 39:15less. What's that smell?
- 39:19It looks like it belongs though, you know, Despite that that
- 39:23elevated, you know, company or whatever, it looks like it's
- 39:26supposed to be there. Well, I mean, and the, the grand
- 39:28is the grand's open to, to anything sporty 59 and, or it's
- 39:32not that they're, it's not that they're Pooh Pooh in Corvettes.
- 39:34It's just that, you know, the grand, though, it's a very
- 39:37special event in that one of the many charities that it was
- 39:40founded to support involves the Colorado Highway Patrol.
- 39:44So a lot of impossible cars from the, from the 50s and earlier
- 39:49that are not technically street legal get special dispensation
- 39:52to run on the open road for a week.
- 39:55You get up, you get temporary registration.
- 39:58And so it attracts a lot of vintage race cars because it's
- 40:01the only time they can really exercise them publicly.
- 40:04And on open roads and streets rather than, you know, on an
- 40:07enclosed track and you know, you're not going to you're not
- 40:10going to say no to, you know, you know, Lamont winning cars.
- 40:14So that's so it's it's just unusual to to have one apply, I
- 40:20think. So that's.
- 40:20What it? And I think so that it's funny
- 40:23that there's always kind of a conversation of of, well, if I
- 40:26want to go on the grand, What Car to What Car to buy?
- 40:29So the short answer is a Jaguar 120.
- 40:31But now they're past that. The hardest things to get on the
- 40:37on the Colorado Grand is a 356 and A300SL and the most common
- 40:42and you're just competing with the, the best of the best of the
- 40:45best cars. So that the Corvette we, we've,
- 40:50we've got a history with the Grand, which I think kind of
- 40:52helped us get in there because you know, that's not a common
- 40:56thing there. There's we are actually kind of
- 40:58happy of this distinction. There's officially only been one
- 41:01other Corvette, physically speaking, one only Corvette ever
- 41:05on the Grand. Tom Rain gets credit for the
- 41:08story. But it was a 57.
- 41:11And there's one owner that would bring the car for a while pretty
- 41:14early on and brought it like 5 or 6 years and then kind of just
- 41:17disappeared. And just as we were talking
- 41:19about it was a fan favorite. And like, you know, the Grand
- 41:22crew is really just disappointed to see it disappear.
- 41:25Fast forward several years and Tom is at a race track walking
- 41:31around a big, big car day. Bunch of bunch of activity at
- 41:34the track runs into this individual and he's like, oh
- 41:38man, wow. Like it's it's amazing to see
- 41:40you like it's it's been years. What are you up to?
- 41:43He's like, Oh yeah, I'm, I'm racing my Ferrari FXX and and
- 41:49Thomas Quack. Only.
- 41:51Modern track only special if you don't know what.
- 41:53Correct. Yeah.
- 41:53And like this is, let's just say this is not your first Ferrari.
- 41:56Let's just, we'll put it in that in that category of Ferrari.
- 42:01And he says, oh, yeah, of course, you know, like I, I have
- 42:0317 Ferraris, like, and Tom comes back, wait a minute, like you
- 42:08own 17 Ferraris go, yeah, I've got all this stuff.
- 42:11And they go, why did you bring the Corvette on the grant?
- 42:15Because everyone wants to see the Corvette, and so there's
- 42:19kind of this a little bit of an homage of like 1 Corvette on the
- 42:23Grand. And I think there's a huge
- 42:24hesitation. Like 2 would be too much.
- 42:27Yeah, I'm digging the. But it's tradition.
- 42:31Just within the the broad spectrum of things you try to
- 42:34get on the grand, you really try to, especially as I was kind of
- 42:37started with 350 sixes and the 300 SLS.
- 42:40The beauty of it is the variety, yeah.
- 42:42And you really, really hate to see too much of a concentration
- 42:45of anyone thing. No, no, you'd never think you'd
- 42:47get sick of 300 SLS, but you know, if you have 30 of them,
- 42:49that might be, yeah. You know when you get when you
- 42:51get sick, it's like is is that the green rudge or or is that
- 42:56the the rudge wheel green one or the non rudge wheel green one?
- 42:59Yeah, yeah. You start to get real particular
- 43:01and you want those Rudge wheels, you know?
- 43:03Yeah. And I want to make a quick
- 43:04clarification. It's 60 and earlier.
- 43:06I just don't want to get. Trouble.
- 43:09Right for that. But no, it's it's always fun to
- 43:13see that car. And you know, I've tried to put
- 43:14into words on this show and and and words in print for that
- 43:18matter, but I don't know that I've ever really actually
- 43:21captured what makes the grand so incredibly special for those of
- 43:24us who are lucky enough to be a part of it.
- 43:26So I yield the floor to you guys.
- 43:28What is it about the Grand? It's the purity of the event.
- 43:33It's, it's not a corporate event.
- 43:36And, and that I, you know, I hate to be reductive about it,
- 43:39but it's true. The grand was started by
- 43:43enthusiasts as a charity event and it is retained that flavor
- 43:51for 37 years. And I mean, Lord knows, you
- 43:54know, you can throw enough money at an event and people are
- 43:58inclined to sell and to privatize it or to make it a for
- 44:01profit thing. But with the grand, they've been
- 44:04able to say the entire mission of this is to gather a great
- 44:08group of people. Again, coming back to the
- 44:11community factor like in the, there are enough people with
- 44:15money that you can cut a check and you can get an amazing car
- 44:18that qualifies for the grand, but that doesn't get you on it.
- 44:22It has to be a group of people that they want to spend 5 days
- 44:27with, that they want to, to hang out with and see that are, that
- 44:32are like minded, that really love the cars, but also really
- 44:35value what the grand provides. And that is the kind of the the
- 44:39charitable aspect and giving back to the community every I
- 44:42don't think that that a lot of the listeners realize.
- 44:45I think they would just assume that it's kind of like, you
- 44:47know, the Cal Mila, you pay a bunch of money and they close
- 44:49some roads for you. The the Grand is given back at
- 44:52this point in time about 12 to $15 million in charitable in
- 44:56charitable money. Every small town that the Grand
- 45:00stops at you never drive more than 60 to 120 miles at a time
- 45:04before you stop at a town for coffee and a break.
- 45:07So it really doesn't feel like you're driving all that much in
- 45:09a day, even though you are. But every single town gets
- 45:13scholarships for college for students.
- 45:15They let the kids out of school so that they can come and
- 45:18experience the cars and meet the owners and sit in them and smell
- 45:22them and interact with them. They they work directly with the
- 45:27individual towns to say, well, what do you need?
- 45:31We're not going to dictate where what this money is going to go
- 45:33to. What are your specific needs?
- 45:36No middle man just will give you a check for what your community
- 45:39needs. In Walden, they helped put up a
- 45:41medical facility. They put up arts centers,
- 45:45healthcare, anything that that particular towns town needs.
- 45:48There's no middleman with the donations and they've managed
- 45:52to, they've managed to keep that flavor for 37 years when most
- 45:58other events have have just become a, a, a pay to play
- 46:02thing, right. And I really, I really do feel
- 46:06like what makes the grand special is just that they've
- 46:09been able to make it more about the people than it is about the
- 46:13cars, even though it's a driving event.
- 46:15And we'll say. That's a lean.
- 46:16It just absolutely like lean into this even further,
- 46:20especially in contrast coming back from car week where you
- 46:23know, if, if you have a car that's being displayed anywhere
- 46:27on on the peninsula, you just there are throngs of people that
- 46:31like you cannot get away from anything.
- 46:35So the grain is the absolute opposite.
- 46:37Like the, the starting point is a secret.
- 46:40If you know where, what what is up and what's going on, you know
- 46:45kind of where it ends and where to hang out and the rest of the
- 46:481000 miles and the rest of the stop is unpublished.
- 46:51There is not the public. There is not, I mean, outside of
- 46:55the small towns and the kids and things like that, there's not
- 46:58paparazzi. There's not influencers.
- 47:01Just I'm going to use that word. They're not influencers.
- 47:05So it just becomes this really like you're kind of part of it
- 47:08or or you're not. And, and not to say that you're
- 47:10like, that's maybe not the right word, but it's like it's, it's
- 47:15kind of you're part of this group that that's enjoying this
- 47:18whole experience. And it's less what it's being
- 47:21seen. It's a part of just the shared
- 47:23experience. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:24The yeah, the the route, the route changes every year and
- 47:28even even the participants until the drivers meeting on day one
- 47:33and until we receive the route book, we have no idea where
- 47:36we're going. It's it's a very closely guarded
- 47:39secret into Mike's point. What what that does is it allows
- 47:42people to just tune out every every other kind of status Y
- 47:47thing that goes on with events like this typically and to just
- 47:51exist. Yeah.
- 47:52And it's it is the most laid back, fun, engaging and
- 47:58ultimately very community positive event that I've been.
- 48:05I've been privileged enough to be able to be a part of.
- 48:07And that's and that's why as long as as long as they'll,
- 48:10they'll keep letting my ass let us.
- 48:14Yeah, exactly. I was just like.
- 48:16With the three of us are not representative.
- 48:18Exactly. Yeah, Yeah.
- 48:19In fact, I was just, I was just gonna say if you're watching
- 48:21this on video, these are not the faces you typically see.
- 48:27But yeah, it's, it's as long as, as long as, as long as I, I have
- 48:31breath and am allowed to wave the flag for the grand, I
- 48:34definitely will because it is it really is the last of its kind.
- 48:37There are there are events that there are lots, there are lots
- 48:40of events that started out this way and unfortunately have just
- 48:43kind of morphed into something else.
- 48:45This one has managed to just stay incredibly pure.
- 48:49Yeah, it's a special thing. Well said, both of you.
- 48:51Yeah. Yeah, it's that curation, isn't
- 48:54it? Not just the cars, but of the
- 48:56people and the you know and and. It's the whole thing, yeah.
- 48:58It's the whole thing. It's just they call it the
- 49:01enchanted forest, right? And and that's, you know, you
- 49:03get into this zone and that's and that's what it is indeed.
- 49:06But we're coming up near an hour and you guys are not just
- 49:14friends, not just Co drivers on the grand you're business
- 49:17partners. So you, you, you deal in white
- 49:20powder. Where we are, we are native.
- 49:24We are native to the US We're not.
- 49:26We distribute. Weight powder.
- 49:28Yeah. Let's.
- 49:33Clear the old browser. Totally legal.
- 49:35Totally legal. I simply must be going to.
- 49:40Go no. So it's not.
- 49:41So all kidding aside, no. So we, we are distributors for a
- 49:45product called Zorbent. Think like Absorbent.
- 49:48So I think if, if you've got your car, if you're a British
- 49:51car owner like me or some of these, I think you always have a
- 49:54little bit of drips, something on the floor.
- 49:58Yep. Be it, be it water, be it oil,
- 50:00be it transmission fluid, anything, this stuff will absorb
- 50:05all of it. It takes like literally seconds
- 50:09and you just sweep it up for it right in the trash or just keep
- 50:12using it. I usually just have a push broom
- 50:14and I just kind of like go back and forth periodically like
- 50:17it's, it's that reusable and that straight.
- 50:19That's the official technique, straight from the source, yeah.
- 50:22Straight from the. Source.
- 50:23Yep, totally. But no, it's fantastic stuff.
- 50:26And as as we talk about the grand, we always provide product
- 50:30for the grand so that we can clean up the parking garages.
- 50:33You can imagine 125 classic cars going through these parking
- 50:36garages. And one of the enabling elements
- 50:39of this to be able to stay at those parking garages, right, is
- 50:42to be able to clean up behind it.
- 50:44And if you've used other products on the market, there's
- 50:47not really sufficient to and really up to this task.
- 50:51So check out Zorbent. With AZ like Zufengruppa.
- 50:54With a? With a?
- 50:55Yep, just like yeah, Z isn't Zufengruppa.
- 50:58Less consonance though. Yeah, we're going to call this
- 51:01episode the spelling test because.
- 51:03That's right, right? And then we're actually just
- 51:07coming out with a second product that is a concrete stain
- 51:11remover. So if you've got that spot on
- 51:13your driveway or that parking spot in a parking garage that
- 51:17has been caked for years and years and years and years with
- 51:20just oil and muck and grime, this stuff will go down and it
- 51:24will eat up and remove any, any basic petrochemicals, any oil
- 51:29based products leaving the concrete fresh and new.
- 51:33So. So like years.
- 51:34So like, yeah, that that stop right in front of the 711.
- 51:38You could throw that down and and bring it back to, you know.
- 51:41So it's actually, yeah. So it's actually using an
- 51:43enzyme. It is going in there and it will
- 51:45actually eat the the oils and the petrochemicals.
- 51:48Yeah. This is not like a cleaner.
- 51:50It's something that is like actively by chemistry, biology,
- 51:54like science. I'm gonna say the second-half of
- 51:56that. But now you've lost me.
- 51:57Yeah. But yeah, that works.
- 51:58Right. Yeah.
- 52:00But yeah, that's. So that you just.
- 52:02Put it down, you sprinkle it, it activates in water and so you
- 52:06just get it a little bit damp and then it basically breaks
- 52:09down the carbon bonds in the oil and you just leave it there.
- 52:13It's meant to be left. It's environmentally friendly,
- 52:16It neutralizes everything. You can drive over it so you
- 52:19just ignore it and it removes the stain.
- 52:23But with Zorbin, it's also worth noting that all of these
- 52:25products are completely natural. They don't aerosolize, they
- 52:28don't require PPE. You can eat them if you want.
- 52:30I wouldn't recommend it. Don't.
- 52:32Next time you guys are on. Don't, Yeah, don't do what I
- 52:36say. I'm just saying it's NSF.
- 52:38It's NSF rated. It's safe.
- 52:41Yeah, it's safe for use and we use it.
- 52:43We use it also not just in the Automotive World, but it's also
- 52:46used well in the Automotive World.
- 52:48You can use it around sensitive machinery.
- 52:51We've demonstrated for major automotive manufacturers who
- 52:53don't usually allow powdered absorbents, but they're
- 52:56perfectly happy to use our stuff because it doesn't aerosolize
- 52:59and scratch things or get into machinery.
- 53:02You can use it in your house. It's pet safe.
- 53:04I keep it under my sink. It you can use it on any liquid,
- 53:07from the benign to the incredibly hazardous, and it's.
- 53:11Available The official tagline. Yeah, I mean, hey, I've been
- 53:16I've been singing that song for a while now, but it has it
- 53:18hasn't made it onto the trademark list yet, but, you
- 53:22know, but it's but it's, it's true.
- 53:24It's available online. You can check out zorben.com.
- 53:26You can find it on Amazon. You can find it in select Lowe's
- 53:30and Home Depot locations. And yeah, and, and we also make
- 53:35the concrete cleaner and we make a preventative drip mat that's
- 53:39really good for if you're British cars or cars like me
- 53:44from the pre war era, where if it's not leaking, it means it's
- 53:48empty. These are great to just slide
- 53:50underneath and they again also encapsulate.
- 53:54So you can literally pick up one of these mats, shake it, nothing
- 53:57comes out and your floor is clean.
- 53:59It doesn't leak all the way through like some competitive
- 54:01maps do. So your your surface is still
- 54:04clean and you can fold them around components when you're
- 54:06doing oil changes or fuel pumps or whatever.
- 54:09It's cool stuff that that try to that try to oil filter removal
- 54:13the upside down, yeah. The sideways, the sideways
- 54:17canister, that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:20What can't Zorben do? I love it.
- 54:22So yeah. Check it out.
- 54:22What's the website again? It's.
- 54:25So our website is XYZ distributors.com.
- 54:29If you're looking for a wholesale account, we can
- 54:32provide you guys with product if you have, you know, fleet
- 54:35services or anything like that. If you're looking for just
- 54:38buying a bottle for yourself, you can go to zorbin.com.
- 54:42You could also find it on Amazon, or if you go to
- 54:45zorbin.com there's a widget there to tell you which
- 54:49locations of Lowe's and Home Depot it is available in.
- 54:51OK. Oh.
- 54:52That's super helpful. What's that like getting your
- 54:54product into Home Depot, right? Like that's, there's probably a
- 54:57story there, right? Oh, there's a story and a half
- 54:59there's yeah. So we're, we're, we're going
- 55:02through, we're going through, we're in a, we're in a few. 100
- 55:04stores nationwide. That's amazing.
- 55:06Yeah, it's really fun. They're just they, they, they
- 55:08want to diversify that that particular skew.
- 55:11They recognize that it's a really niche but very valuable
- 55:15SKU to have because you could use it for everything.
- 55:20And so we're we're going through a trial phase right now where
- 55:23it's available with within a couple 100 stores.
- 55:26So check and see if it's at a store near euro and pick up a
- 55:30bag. Fantastic.
- 55:33Well, is this a show? I think it is that a retort.
- 55:40And now we know. Yeah, there it is.
- 55:43I love it. There we go.
- 55:45God, I love that. From Grupa 10/4 in.
- 55:50Boulder Airport. Boulder Airport. 12:50.
- 55:53We're off on great adventures. Mike Burrows, Derek Shrek good
- 55:57to talk with you guys Fuel fed Zoof and Grupa check it out.
- 56:00That's. Right.
- 56:01I know. Well, Mike, thank you so much
- 56:03for joining us and we appreciate our audience being with us.
- 56:07We always appreciate you spending time with us.
