- speaker-0: You know, there are some very unique challenges that come with homeschooling. I think there are also really unique joys, but it is a lot of hard work, and so we have to be prepared in our perspective and have a right perspective as we go in. speaker-1: Perspective is something, it's just for me, it's just that that zooming out and looking at the big picture. and I've heard you talk about how perspective shapes the homeschool day more so than curriculum or methods. And so many homeschool moms think when we start to homeschool, we have to start with, I gotta get my curriculum, I gotta figure out my method, I have to get all that stuff figured out. but you say not so that actually perspective is probably the first and foremost thing that that shapes it. So What are some subtle thought patterns that you see in homeschool moms that can sabotage their joy? ⁓ even when they're doing everything right, when we have all the boxes checked, we have our curriculum figured out, we have our schedule made. ⁓ how are we really sabotaging though? speaker-0: Yeah. You know, I think at the heart of this, and anyone who homeschools knows that this is true, is that the homeschooling parent, whether the mom, usually the mom, but maybe the dad, is the heart of the homeschool. And so not the curriculum choices, not the schedule or the methods. We can be doing all the things and checking all the boxes and yet lack joy and lack perspective. And our children and our whole family is not going to be thriving as a result. And so over the last eight years of homeschooling, I've recognized, I think I went in with kind of an idealistic view of this, that it was just gonna be much easier than it has been. And honestly, I look at it and though, you know, there are some very unique challenges that come with homeschooling, I think there are also really unique. joys, but it is a lot of hard work. And so we have to be prepared in our perspective and have a right perspective as we go in. So I love there's a quote by Pastor Chuck Swindah. ⁓ he said that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. And that is really convicting to me because I can see, you know, two different homeschool moms that have similar circumstances. And similar things happening to them and yet they react so differently. And again, I think it comes down to the mindset. And I know that when I as the mom am doing well physically, spiritually, emotionally, that spills over into my family in my homeschool. And the opposite is also true. So if I am not thriving in those ways, that is going to seep into our family life in homeschool. And so I think if we have this. constant negative stream of thoughts and I have been guilty of this, but thoughts like I'm behind or it's all on me, I can't handle what's been given to me, or even just I have to instead of I get to, ⁓ it can affect our home school in very negative ways. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by Liberty HealthShare.
