2:02
Speaker 3: We're going to talk about the proposed tax cut that
2:05
Speaker 3: they actually appears this is going to happen, and it
2:08
Speaker 3: was kind of a compromise, which is something you don't
2:10
Speaker 3: hear a lot about it. As I said, Brad mcilhenney
2:13
Speaker 3: would talk about that. Also a lot of focus on
2:15
Speaker 3: some childcare issues, not as much as some would like
2:18
Speaker 3: though delicate. Kaylee Young's going to join us to talk
2:20
Speaker 3: about that, coming up a little bit later on. Also,
2:22
Speaker 3: I want to get into us what's going to be

2:36
Speaker 3: More coming up the first two. First one will be tonight,
2:38
Speaker 3: the second with tomorrow night. I'm going to get into
2:40
Speaker 3: that a little bit later on. Plus your calls the

2:52
Speaker 3: All Right. The general election is coming up November the fifth,
2:55
Speaker 3: and there are some counties in West Virginia that are
2:57
Speaker 3: in need of poll workers in our area. Could not
3:00
Speaker 3: Awe Boon, Putnam, Fayet just a couple of the counties
3:04
Speaker 3: that are in needs of people. Western Indiana Secretary of
3:06
Speaker 3: State Mike wonders here that he is the chief election
3:08
Speaker 3: officer for the state of West Virginia. Secretary, good morning,
3:10
Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
3:12
Speaker 5: Good morning, good to be with.
3:13
Speaker 3: You, Thank you for being here. I mentioned a few
3:15
Speaker 3: of the counties in our immediate area, but there are
3:17
Speaker 3: of course more state Why I think I heard eighteen
3:19
Speaker 3: or something like that. Why the need for more poll
3:23
Speaker 3: workers and how did we get here?
3:26
Speaker 5: Well, what we've got is this isn't a crisis. This
3:29
Speaker 5: is a request from the Kenny clerk simply asking for
3:31
Speaker 5: people to become a pole worker. They always like to
3:35
Speaker 5: have not just the required minimum of five for precinct,
3:38
Speaker 5: but they like to ask Maltern it's in place in
3:40
Speaker 5: case something happens to one of the primary poe workers,
3:45
Speaker 5: and we're always looking for new poe workers. I'd like
3:47
Speaker 5: to do the shout out to Barbara County. Philip Barbara
3:50
Speaker 5: High School had twelve high school students during the primary
3:53
Speaker 5: who served as pole workers. So we'd like to get
3:55
Speaker 5: the young people involved in politics. So this is just
3:58
Speaker 5: a general request out to the public to all your
4:01
Speaker 5: listeners to consider being a poll worker. And perhaps you
4:05
Speaker 5: know somebody that has shown an interest in politics or
4:09
Speaker 5: maybe voice to concern with the integrity of the elections,
4:11
Speaker 5: any of that. There's no better way to overcome your
4:14
Speaker 5: concerns about an election if you go work the polls
4:16
Speaker 5: and you see the checks and balances that are in place.
4:19
Speaker 5: So this is a request the listening public to consider
4:22
Speaker 5: being a poll worker. And it's easy to do. Simply
4:25
Speaker 5: pick up the phone and call your county clerk. In
4:28
Speaker 5: Kennall County of course, it's Barry McCormick. Down in Putnam
4:31
Speaker 5: County's Brian. We'll just call the county clerk, let them
4:33
Speaker 5: know your interests and they'll run with it. You can
4:35
Speaker 5: also get online either the county's website or my website
4:39
Speaker 5: which is go votewv dot com. There's a big purple
4:44
Speaker 5: bar there it's become a poll worker. You click on
4:46
Speaker 5: that tab and putting you in your information and we
4:49
Speaker 5: will get it to the respective county clerk. So it's
4:52
Speaker 5: an easy thing to do. We talk about volunteers, but
4:55
Speaker 5: you actually get paid for this, typically about two hundred
4:58
Speaker 5: and fifty dollars to work the that day. That's pretty
5:01
Speaker 5: good money for one day's work, especially if you're a
5:05
Speaker 5: high school student or somebody just starting out, maybe fresh
5:08
Speaker 5: out of college. Become a poll worker and do your
5:11
Speaker 5: civic duty. You won't regret it.
5:13
Speaker 3: I guarantee you talking again with wester renewed Secretary of
5:15
Speaker 3: State Mac Warner about the need for poll workers. And
5:17
Speaker 3: I think it's very important to note what you said
5:21
Speaker 3: at the outside of the interview, Secretary, and that is
5:23
Speaker 3: that we're not at any critical stage yet, but you
5:25
Speaker 3: want to have more than what is required. It takes
5:28
Speaker 3: about eight thousand poll workers, according to information from your office,
5:31
Speaker 3: to pull off an election in this state, and I
5:34
Speaker 3: think it's I think it's very interesting and congratulations to
5:37
Speaker 3: you and the staff there for trying to reaching out to,
5:41
Speaker 3: let's say, non traditional people about being poor workers. Like
5:44
Speaker 3: you said, a high school students. I mean, you know,
5:46
Speaker 3: it's two hundred and fifty dollars a day. It is
5:48
Speaker 3: a long day, but that's not bad, not a bad
5:50
Speaker 3: chuck of change for a kid it's in high school
5:53
Speaker 3: or maybe in college.
5:55
Speaker 5: No, it's fun. You get to meet neighbors, you get
5:57
Speaker 5: to meet people, and typically they do of pot luck,
6:00
Speaker 5: you know, for lunch or dinner, order pizzas, that kind
6:03
Speaker 5: of thing. So it's actually fun and the idea of
6:08
Speaker 5: going and being a part of this political process, especially
6:11
Speaker 5: during these divided times. This is a very divided election,
6:17
Speaker 5: extreme views on either side, and be a part of it.
6:20
Speaker 5: Come in there and be a part where you see
6:22
Speaker 5: that we don't have the art machines, are not connected
6:25
Speaker 5: to the internet, that we do have paper ballots, that
6:27
Speaker 5: we retain those paper ballots for twenty two months, so
6:30
Speaker 5: that if there's any concern over the integrity of the election,
6:34
Speaker 5: somebody voting that shouldn't, or ballot stuffing or any of
6:38
Speaker 5: those sorts of things you hear in these other states
6:40
Speaker 5: doesn't happen here in West Virginia. And there's no better
6:42
Speaker 5: way to see that yourself than to come in and
6:45
Speaker 5: be a poll worker. We want people from opposite parties
6:48
Speaker 5: and even it isn't just Republicans and Democrats, but Independence,
6:52
Speaker 5: Green Party, Mountain Party, whatever affiliations. You do have to
6:56
Speaker 5: be a registered voter. That's the only qualification. So you
7:00
Speaker 5: have to be eighteen, you have to be registered vot
7:03
Speaker 5: and then the county clerks will assign you to the
7:05
Speaker 5: appropriate precincts, so we have that balance of at least
7:07
Speaker 5: five pole workers in each of the precincts. So that's
7:10
Speaker 5: how it works. And again it's as easy as getting
7:12
Speaker 5: online to the go votewp dot com website or calling
7:17
Speaker 5: your county clerk and letting us know if you're interested.
7:19
Speaker 5: Will run with it from there.
7:21
Speaker 3: And polls of course on election they are opening secretary
7:23
Speaker 3: from six thirty am to seven thirty pm. And of
7:26
Speaker 3: course you do have to commit to the whole day
7:28
Speaker 3: because I've had people back when I was helping to
7:31
Speaker 3: recruit poll workers, I had people that would say, well,
7:33
Speaker 3: can I do it just in the afternoon or the not.
7:36
Speaker 3: It's pretty much you got to commit the whole day.
7:38
Speaker 3: But I have found that most employers, though, especially if
7:41
Speaker 3: you give them enough notice, most employers are are okay
7:44
Speaker 3: with letting their employees off.
7:47
Speaker 5: Yeah. Now, the state legislature did pass where you can
7:51
Speaker 5: work a half day, but okay, to the county, I
7:53
Speaker 5: don't have to work that in so we can't guarantee
7:55
Speaker 5: that all throughout the state. But some counties do allow
7:58
Speaker 5: that the clerk would have to work. If you want
8:02
Speaker 5: only work a half day, that half somebody who'd worked
8:04
Speaker 5: the other half. That sort of thing, So there are
8:06
Speaker 5: those options. It's again where our legislature listens to the
8:10
Speaker 5: needs of the people. And what we found in a
8:12
Speaker 5: couple of counties is a husband and wife. The husband
8:14
Speaker 5: are working in the morning and the wife in the afternoon,
8:16
Speaker 5: and that sort of thing, so that that is a possibility.
8:19
Speaker 5: But again it's a it's a good time once you
8:22
Speaker 5: get there. I haven't heard anybody it's ever regretted being
8:25
Speaker 5: a poll worker. And if we get people started, especially
8:28
Speaker 5: when they're younger, maybe they can do this throughout throughout
8:32
Speaker 5: the decades. Like most of our poll workers seem to
8:34
Speaker 5: be more of the senior citizens, and they've done it,
8:37
Speaker 5: and that provides a confidence level that they know what
8:40
Speaker 5: they're doing, they know the people, they know the systems.
8:44
Speaker 5: But you know, we have introduced these electronic voting machines,
8:48
Speaker 5: the express votes systems. They're not connected to the internet.
8:52
Speaker 5: Some counties have the electronic poll book. So we are
8:55
Speaker 5: using technology and getting ahead in the security year realm.
9:01
Speaker 5: But sometimes that new technology causes some concern, whereas with
9:05
Speaker 5: the younger people that are very accustomed to, you know,
9:08
Speaker 5: working on the computers and the technology advances and so forth.
9:11
Speaker 5: So it's nice to have that mix of both more
9:14
Speaker 5: senior people with a younger group demographic that's very comfortable
9:18
Speaker 5: with the most up to date electronic equipment.
9:21
Speaker 3: And you know, we see Secretary in the news about
9:25
Speaker 3: some issues in other states with as it comes to election.
9:29
Speaker 3: Matter of fact, I've watched a piece over the weekend
9:31
Speaker 3: that in Georgia that there were threats made against poll
9:33
Speaker 3: workers and things of that nature. That that simply does
9:36
Speaker 3: not happen in West Virginia, Sir.
9:39
Speaker 5: We do not have those problems at all here in
9:41
Speaker 5: West Virginia haven't had those sort of complaints. I'm surprised
9:44
Speaker 5: you saw anything other than football this week.
9:46
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, how about them Cowboys. Gonna throw that in there.
9:48
Speaker 3: How about them.
9:49
Speaker 5: Cowboy the Cowboys, the Mountaineers, and then the marshaling teams. Yeah,
9:53
Speaker 5: so it was a good week weekend for football here
9:55
Speaker 5: in West Virginia. But no, we don't have those problems.
9:58
Speaker 5: With the fact we leave the nation with election integrity,
10:01
Speaker 5: we have so many of these advances we have to
10:02
Speaker 5: see something, text something, so if somebody sees a problem,
10:06
Speaker 5: you can text it in. We have investigators all over
10:08
Speaker 5: the state. Everybody knows West Virginia takes election and take
10:11
Speaker 5: it very seriously, and so we don't have those issues.
10:15
Speaker 5: We don't have drop boxes. Our legislature has just done
10:18
Speaker 5: a good job of laying out the rules for running
10:20
Speaker 5: an election. We abide by that, the clerks abide by that.
10:23
Speaker 5: And by the way, this poll worker training starts this
10:25
Speaker 5: next week, so right now is the time to be
10:28
Speaker 5: signing up and talking about poll workers. Because the training starts,
10:32
Speaker 5: you do get paid for that training. So if you
10:34
Speaker 5: sign up, you go to the training and you get
10:36
Speaker 5: paid fifty hours for a couple hours of the training.
10:40
Speaker 5: Even if you aren't used as a poll worker on
10:42
Speaker 5: election day, you do get that training and you're on
10:45
Speaker 5: the list then to be called if something does happen.
10:48
Speaker 5: So again it's not a crisis, but it is a need.
10:52
Speaker 5: Right now, we're trying to identify people so that we
10:56
Speaker 5: have the full lists, full alternate list as well, should
11:00
Speaker 5: something arise.
11:01
Speaker 3: And most of what I found in my experience, most
11:03
Speaker 3: of the county clerks, especially in the larger counties, take
11:07
Speaker 3: Kenawah County, for example, Clerk McCormick has several several poleworker sessions,
11:12
Speaker 3: training sessions, so summer early in the morning, summer in
11:15
Speaker 3: the evening, some are in the middle of the day,
11:17
Speaker 3: so they can pretty much work within each schedule. So
11:19
Speaker 3: again in our immediate listing area, can all Putnam, Fayett, Boone, Cable,
11:23
Speaker 3: just some of the counties that could use, as you said,
11:26
Speaker 3: not really crisis level, but could use to get some
11:28
Speaker 3: more poll workers names on the book. What's the best
11:31
Speaker 3: way again for them to sign up?
11:32
Speaker 6: Sir?
11:33
Speaker 5: Call the county clerk, let them know. You can go
11:35
Speaker 5: through your party Republican Democrat Party, let your county chair. No,
11:39
Speaker 5: we'll get that information at kirk or go to our
11:41
Speaker 5: website go gowb dot com, which put your information in
11:47
Speaker 5: the information that tab there and I will get that
11:50
Speaker 5: information to the county clerk. So we've already had four
11:53
Speaker 5: hundred and seventy eight Epstein ballots come in here in
11:56
Speaker 5: Kanawah County. This election is underway. Still registered to vote
12:01
Speaker 5: if you haven't registered, you can do that up into
12:02
Speaker 5: October fifteenth, and then the early voting starts October twenty third.
12:08
Speaker 5: So this election is upon us, and now's the time
12:11
Speaker 5: if you have any interest at all, sign up to
12:13
Speaker 5: be a poll worker or encourage somebody in your family
12:16
Speaker 5: or a friend or relative to do so. Let's make
12:20
Speaker 5: this the secure election ever and it begins with the
12:22
Speaker 5: poll worker training.
12:24
Speaker 3: All right, Secretary Wanner, I appreciate you. We'll talk again soon.
12:26
Speaker 7: Man, thanks a lot, thank they could being with you.

12:51
Speaker 3: know I'm a former employee the Western Region Secretary of
12:53
Speaker 3: State's Office, and I will say this a couple of
12:55
Speaker 3: things that I saw when I was out covering elections.
12:58
Speaker 3: Because they have a team of thirty forty people normally
13:02
Speaker 3: on election day out on the road going to every
13:06
Speaker 3: somebody will visit every county in the sate of West Virginia,
13:09
Speaker 3: in every precinct. It seems like sometimes I did it,
13:11
Speaker 3: but I'd cover you know, seven eight counties maybe in
13:14
Speaker 3: a day back when I was doing that sort of work.
13:17
Speaker 3: And a couple of the things that I found if
13:19
Speaker 3: you were planning on being a pollworker, that you just
13:21
Speaker 3: may want to know. Number One, probably the biggest issue
13:24
Speaker 3: that the election officials have is people coming into the
13:29
Speaker 3: polling place with a T shirt, a hat, a jacket
13:32
Speaker 3: or whatever that says vote for so and so. You
13:34
Speaker 3: can't do that. You cannot walk, You cannot get within
13:37
Speaker 3: one hundred feet of the voting location wearing a T
13:41
Speaker 3: shirt that says vote for Joe Smith for Board of Education.
13:43
Speaker 3: You cannot do that, all right, So just know that
13:45
Speaker 3: you can't have a Trump pat you can't have a
13:47
Speaker 3: Biden T shirt or anything like that when you walk
13:50
Speaker 3: into the polling place. That's one. Number Two, you need
13:53
Speaker 3: to put away the phones because that became a thing
13:57
Speaker 3: a little bit later on, is people would want to
13:59
Speaker 3: go in and take pictures of there of who they
14:01
Speaker 3: voted for. You cannot do that. That is illegal. You
14:04
Speaker 3: could be prosecuted for that. So no cell phones. I'm
14:07
Speaker 3: not saying you can't take it in your pocket, and
14:09
Speaker 3: that goes for the Paul workers too. Just know that.
14:12
Speaker 3: All right, we're going to take a break. The special session,
14:14
Speaker 3: of course continue should wrap up today. We're going to
14:16
Speaker 3: talk to a delegate, Kaylee Young about that a little
14:18
Speaker 3: bit later on. Plus we're going to talk to Brad
14:20
Speaker 3: Michaelhenny who is standing by at the Capitol. Will go
14:23
Speaker 3: to him next right after this. I'm the voice of
14:25
Speaker 3: Charleston WCCHS the Eric J.
14:28
Speaker 2: Tar Family businesses.
14:30
Speaker 3: Eric J.
14:31

14:34
Speaker 2: since nineteen ninety seven.

14:42

14:43

14:47
Speaker 8: heading to the game or just.

15:06
Speaker 4: We need leaders in the House of Delegates who know
15:08
Speaker 4: what it takes to create jobs. We need Mark Carter
15:12
Speaker 4: in District fifty seven.
15:13
Speaker 1: All of us are struggling with the inflation caused by
15:16
Speaker 1: Biden and Harris.
15:17
Speaker 3: I have worked with employers paying great wages to bring
15:19
Speaker 3: them to West Virginia. I'm committed to doing it again.
15:22

16:19
Speaker 3: that waste of time and embarrassment of a resolution of
16:22
Speaker 3: five Republican delegates are putting up talk about election interference
16:25
Speaker 3: or West Virgin's complacent with false election accusations, the degradation
16:30
Speaker 3: of the electoral process and setting the stage to refuse
16:32
Speaker 3: certification if Trump loses Westernrginion. Republicans want to throw it
16:36
Speaker 3: all the way for Donald Trump. It is pathetic, says
16:40
Speaker 3: a text. Well this has to do well, let's tell
16:42
Speaker 3: you what. Let's go ahead and bring in Brad mclaheney. Brad,
16:44
Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show.
16:46
Speaker 7: Oh hi, good morning. What have I stumbled into?
16:48
Speaker 3: Well? I was going to ask you about that, but
16:50
Speaker 3: it wasn't going to be the first thing. But since
16:52
Speaker 3: the text we brought it up, this resolution that was
16:54
Speaker 3: brought forth on Sunday, I guess by a group of
16:56
Speaker 3: Republican lawmakers. You know it's it has no teeth. It's
17:02
Speaker 3: and Hopy wrote about it in his commentary today. It's
17:05
Speaker 3: not going to go anywhere, or so on and so forth.
17:07
Speaker 3: But basically, and this is a very this is very
17:09
Speaker 3: much so Brad me paraphrasing. You may have the exact
17:12
Speaker 3: language in front of you. Basically, there were a group
17:14
Speaker 3: of five Republican legislators got together and said that they
17:18
Speaker 3: the West Virginia won't recognize an election. And they were
17:23
Speaker 3: very they were very what's word I'm looking for, They
17:28
Speaker 3: were specific in what they were talking about as far
17:32
Speaker 3: as parties go, and that if a Republican candidate was
17:36
Speaker 3: a victim of an assassination attempt or whatever, that West
17:41
Speaker 3: Virginia would not recognize the person that became president. That
17:45
Speaker 3: pretty much accurate, That's right.
17:48
Speaker 7: And it talks about illegal immigrants voting in some states
17:52
Speaker 7: and the possibility of thereof.
17:55
Speaker 10: And so is.
17:58
Speaker 7: Very forward look in terms of if this happens, then
18:03
Speaker 7: that happens, uh, very much paving the way for West
18:10
Speaker 7: Virginia objections to electoral outcomes. And so you know, you've
18:16
Speaker 7: already said it. If you want to read a little
18:18
Speaker 7: more about it. Hoppy's commentary on the West Virginia Metro
18:21
Speaker 7: News site UH spells it out a bit more. UH.
18:24
Speaker 7: This is House Concurrent Resolution two three UH and it
18:29
Speaker 7: is sponsored by delegates riding now Our Mazaki, Dylan Longen, Acre,
18:34
Speaker 7: Coop Gonzales, Foster, Foggin and Steel. Foster is the only
18:39
Speaker 7: one I think who is a canav Valley delegate. It
18:44
Speaker 7: truly isn't going to go anywhere. The special session, I
18:47
Speaker 7: think is going to wrap up today. It was assigned
18:49
Speaker 7: to committee, the Judiciary Committee. But you know, as a
18:54
Speaker 7: matter of symbolism, I think it's very interesting and it
18:59
Speaker 7: I think it's show a light on what representatives in
19:04
Speaker 7: the West Virginia legislature who occupy the right wing political
19:08
Speaker 7: space think, and so in some ways I find it useful.
19:12
Speaker 7: I mean, they've just put it here on paper, and
19:14
Speaker 7: so you know, if you're curious about what the right
19:19
Speaker 7: wing is thinking, and they they have a certain amount
19:23
Speaker 7: of power in the legislature, they don't often get a
19:27
Speaker 7: lot of coverage, but they are representatives who are sent
19:32
Speaker 7: by the citizens of their communities. So I think in
19:37
Speaker 7: that way it's interesting just that it's on paper and
19:40
Speaker 7: this is what they're thinking and what is top of mind.
19:44
Speaker 7: For them is all of the possible ways that you
19:48
Speaker 7: could potentially object to the election.
19:49
Speaker 3: Well, and let's keep in mind that we still have
19:51
Speaker 3: a campaign going on, and these delegates are up for
19:54
Speaker 3: re election, some of them running out of posed and
19:55
Speaker 3: some of them aren't. And they over the next couple
19:58
Speaker 3: of weeks while they're wrapping up their campaign, if there's
20:00
Speaker 3: a you know, meet the candidate forum. Of course, early
20:02
Speaker 3: voting is going to start here pretty soon. They have
20:04
Speaker 3: the opportunity to go, well, look what I did in Charleston,
20:06
Speaker 3: Look what I brought up. And in certain areas of
20:09
Speaker 3: the state, that's going to get a round of applause.
20:11
Speaker 3: Others people are just going to shake their head and know,
20:13
Speaker 3: what the hell is this all about? Are you nuts?
20:16
Speaker 3: And that's happening. As a matter of fact, I have
20:17
Speaker 3: a text here if it says I'm a Republican Dave.
20:20
Speaker 3: That resolution is the dumbest thing I've seen in all
20:23
Speaker 3: of twenty twenty four. They embarrassed the Republican Party. And
20:26
Speaker 3: it goes on to mention one of the delegates in particular,
20:29
Speaker 3: and I won't get into name call it and things
20:30
Speaker 3: of that nature, but you know, this is not representative
20:34
Speaker 3: of the entire Republican Party.
20:37
Speaker 7: This is a small group even within the Republican supermajority.
20:41
Speaker 7: So it's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight delegates.
20:46
Speaker 7: The how many my mind is slipping. I think there's
20:50
Speaker 7: eleven Democrats, so that makes eighty nine Republicans in the
20:55
Speaker 7: House of Delegates. So you know, just a small group
20:58
Speaker 7: of them. But again, this is this is clearly top
21:04
Speaker 7: of mind to them. And I think it's maybe the
21:06
Speaker 7: nationalization and the the addiction to cable news that people have.
21:11
Speaker 7: This this reflects I think all in all, it's it's
21:16
Speaker 7: not nearly a West Virginia issue. As much as the
21:20
Speaker 7: crumbling roads and bridges, the fallout of the opioid epidemic,
21:25
Speaker 7: the the thousands of kids in foster care, all of
21:28
Speaker 7: those would be top of mind for me for issues
21:33
Speaker 7: for the West Virginia legislature to actually address. But you
21:38
Speaker 7: can see here that, uh, these lawmakers have taken their
21:42
Speaker 7: time to sign on to a bill projecting possibilities for
21:46
Speaker 7: election interference.
21:47
Speaker 3: Well, and perhaps it's level and perhaps let's look in
21:49
Speaker 3: the mirror a little bit, because I brought it up
21:51
Speaker 3: yesterday and as I said, Hoppy wrote about and others
21:54
Speaker 3: you know, this is not going to go anywhere. It's
21:57
Speaker 3: it's just it's it's just blowharding, that is all it
21:59
Speaker 3: is by apparently a group of delegates who think we
22:02
Speaker 3: have nothing better to do in the state of West
22:04
Speaker 3: Virginia than to go after this stuff. In the meantime,
22:06
Speaker 3: we got childcare issues, We did get somewhere on animal talks.
22:10
Speaker 3: Kaylee Young about that a little bit later on. But
22:12
Speaker 3: we also celebrated, and I understand it was like a
22:14
Speaker 3: dance party there yesterday. Brad, you were there. The Roads
22:16
Speaker 3: to Prosperity the voters approved in twenty eighteen. Is that right?
22:21
Speaker 7: It is right, and you know so let me just observe.
22:25
Speaker 7: First October seventh, Governor Justice is very focused on as
22:30
Speaker 7: the seventh anniversary of the passage of the Roads to
22:34
Speaker 7: Prosperity Amendment, which allowed West Virginia to draw down bond
22:39
Speaker 7: money to borrow to pay for major highway repairs. You know,
22:44
Speaker 7: that was a significant policy choice. West Virginia's roads have
22:48
Speaker 7: been in need of upgrade, so I'm not going to
22:52
Speaker 7: quibble with him on the policy choice. The October seventh date,
22:57
Speaker 7: though that he insisted on a celebration of highway repairs
23:03
Speaker 7: did coincide, though, with the national and international observance of
23:08
Speaker 7: the one year anniversary of Hamas's invasion of Israel that
23:13
Speaker 7: killed you know, so many innocent Israelis as well as
23:18
Speaker 7: members of the Israeli military surprise sneak attack. The country
23:22
Speaker 7: has been at war ever since, and so the dance party,
23:30
Speaker 7: as you called it, I think was an unfortunate timetable
23:36
Speaker 7: when there was also essentially a day of morning regarding Israel.
23:40
Speaker 7: The other thing I will say is I was in
23:42
Speaker 7: the House Finance room where we were trying to listen
23:45
Speaker 7: to a pretty serious conversation about the public Employee's insurance
23:49
Speaker 7: agency and it's recurring financial struggles. Those have arisen again
23:55
Speaker 7: and it is a challenging.
24:00
Speaker 6: To listen to.
24:00
Speaker 7: You you really want to hear the specific numbers and
24:04
Speaker 7: you know, are how is it going to affect people's
24:08
Speaker 7: insurance rates everything else? And outside that room was the
24:13
Speaker 7: throb of celebration by cooling the gang.
24:16
Speaker 3: Uh it was.
24:17
Speaker 7: It was really distracting. And I'm not necessarily complaining, Well
24:21
Speaker 7: maybe i am, because I was. I was really trying
24:24
Speaker 7: to hear. All I could hear was celebration.
24:27
Speaker 3: Why do you hate cooling the gang, Brad, why do
24:29
Speaker 3: you hate cooling?
24:30
Speaker 7: Well, why can't America just love and dance?
24:33
Speaker 3: Yes? Yeah, Why do you have to be.
24:35
Speaker 7: So deeply into policy, Brad? I just wanted to hear
24:38
Speaker 7: about PI.
24:38
Speaker 3: A great moments in bad timing, Brad, let me ask
24:41
Speaker 3: you about the I guess you could call it a
24:43
Speaker 3: tax compromise. I mean word broke around noon one issue
24:46
Speaker 3: or so yesterday that they went from five percent to
24:48
Speaker 3: two percent, and I know Sente financial ear guitar urged
24:52
Speaker 3: to urge support yesterday on the floor. As matter of fact,
24:55
Speaker 3: Citar is going to be on the show tomorrow to
24:56
Speaker 3: talk about that. What do you make of all?
24:58
Speaker 7: That? Kind of unexpected to me? Because the governor called
25:03
Speaker 7: for this July first, then said he was going to
25:06
Speaker 7: call a special session. That date was September thirtieth, right,
25:11
Speaker 7: And then the legislature did go in for the special
25:14
Speaker 7: session for one day on the day he called it
25:17
Speaker 7: and said, eh, we need to cool our heels for
25:19
Speaker 7: a week and consider this matter. Then when they came
25:23
Speaker 7: back Sunday evening, there was no evidence that progress had
25:26
Speaker 7: been made. The House Finance Committee came and went with
25:30
Speaker 7: no discussion. The House finance chairman, I think, in a
25:34
Speaker 7: very upfront fashion, said I don't really know where things stand.
25:37
Speaker 7: I have just conducted a two hour meeting. Far as
25:40
Speaker 7: I know, people are still in talks. A week had
25:43
Speaker 7: pass and I thought, oh, we're still in talks. So
25:47
Speaker 7: I thought that there was really a cloud over it.
25:49
Speaker 7: I would have called myself pessimistic about the odds of passage.
25:53
Speaker 7: But there was some give. The governor and his representatives
25:57
Speaker 7: reduced the tax cut amount from the proposed five percent
26:02
Speaker 7: down to two percent instead, Instead of one hundred and
26:05
Speaker 7: ten million dollars, that's going to be about forty six
26:08
Speaker 7: million dollars. And then the administration got a little more
26:12
Speaker 7: specific on how to pay for it. Part of it
26:14
Speaker 7: is panned down a bond and then not having to
26:17
Speaker 7: make those bond payments. I think they said about n
26:20
Speaker 7: eighteen million dollars from that, and then the rest is
26:23
Speaker 7: a little vague to me, but they say they're going
26:26
Speaker 7: to get it from efficiencies through the division of DHHR
26:32
Speaker 7: into the three new agencies. To me, that still lends
26:37
Speaker 7: the risk of less efficiency to have the three agencies
26:41
Speaker 7: instead of than one. But that's where they say they're
26:43
Speaker 7: coming up with the remainder of the money. That was
26:47
Speaker 7: enough between lowering the overall amount and coming up with
26:51
Speaker 7: specific ways to say you're going to pay for the
26:54
Speaker 7: loss of state revenue for people who had applied their
26:58
Speaker 7: critical thinking, like Senate Finance Mantaur to feel more confident.
27:02
Speaker 7: And so where we stand at this moment is the
27:05
Speaker 7: Senate just went ahead and passed it one, two, three
27:08
Speaker 7: votes of consideration yesterday afternoon and it's out the Senate door.
27:14
Speaker 7: The House is applying a little more process, but fully
27:17
Speaker 7: anticipate the House will take it up. And I think
27:20
Speaker 7: this may be the last day of special session.
27:22
Speaker 3: Well I'm hearing m That's what I'm hearing.
27:26
Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I think it will be. I don't
27:28
Speaker 7: think anybody wants to be here longer than they have
27:31
Speaker 7: to be. And you know, the Governor has added more
27:33
Speaker 7: things to the call Saturday and yesterday, and the longer
27:37
Speaker 7: we stay, the more the temptation is like, here's seven
27:41
Speaker 7: more things.
27:42
Speaker 5: How about it?
27:42
Speaker 3: While you're here, you may play, celebrate, and spend all right,
27:47
Speaker 3: So if it probably will wrap up today, anything in
27:50
Speaker 3: particular other than what you've already mentioned that Brad you'll
27:52
Speaker 3: be looking at today.
27:53
Speaker 7: Well, if we're leading into Delegate Young. You know, there
27:56
Speaker 7: was a childcare tax credit that has gone through the House,
28:02
Speaker 7: that was voted through the House. It's favored by a
28:06
Speaker 7: governor Justice. He's talked about that one for months now,
28:10
Speaker 7: up for probably passage. I think today in the Senate
28:14
Speaker 7: a couple things about that. Delegate Young can get a
28:16
Speaker 7: little more to the detail. But Democrats objected it didn't
28:20
Speaker 7: object to the tax credit idea, but to a bit
28:24
Speaker 7: of the structure. My takeaway was that they think if
28:28
Speaker 7: it were restructured a bit more, West Virginians could be
28:32
Speaker 7: guaranteed to take advantage of it. And then secondly that
28:37
Speaker 7: there is not disagreement that the tax credit would be beneficial.
28:42
Speaker 7: I think people think it could be part of the
28:44
Speaker 7: overall relief of pressures on West Virginia's childcare system. But
28:52
Speaker 7: a lot of belief among the legislators that really the
28:55
Speaker 7: states should be doing more because it's a multi prong problem.
28:58
Speaker 3: And again, as Brad said, with get Della, get Kaylee
29:00
Speaker 3: Young coming up after the break and sent a financial cheer.
29:02
Speaker 3: Eric tar will be on the show tomorrow, Brad. I
29:04
Speaker 3: know you're gonna make a return appearance. I think on
29:06
Speaker 3: hoppy coming up. But I'm sure you'll be there. It's
29:08
Speaker 3: just a matter of when it's going to be coming
29:10
Speaker 3: up next to Brad, I appreciate you being here. I
29:12
Speaker 3: don't know why you hate Cool in the Gang, but okay.
29:15
Speaker 7: Do I get exit bumper music? Perhaps you could play
29:17
Speaker 7: a little Cool in the Gang for me.
29:19
Speaker 3: All Right, we'll do it next time. Thanks a lot,

29:43
Speaker 3: and we'll go to break and come back with Della
29:45
Speaker 3: get Kaylee Young Tex says, does Mac Warner, our chief
29:48
Speaker 3: election officer, still believe the FBI and the CIA colluded
29:51
Speaker 3: to commit fraud during the twenty twenty election? Also does
29:55
Speaker 3: Chris Warner believe, like his brother Mac, that there was
29:57
Speaker 3: election fraud enough, even though the evidence it says there
30:00
Speaker 3: was not enough to change the results of Trump getting
30:02
Speaker 3: beaten by Biden. Let me just say this, Yesterday, Secretary
30:06
Speaker 3: Warner was on with Hoppy and I was listening and
30:08
Speaker 3: driving and I was listening to some of that interview yesterday,
30:10
Speaker 3: and Hoppy got some of the same text that I did,
30:13
Speaker 3: and I got plenty more about Mac Warner. And perhaps
30:17
Speaker 3: sometimes I see a little overlap because I'll hear Hoppy
30:20
Speaker 3: read a text and say, well, you know, I had
30:21
Speaker 3: that same text on my show today, which is fine,
30:23
Speaker 3: we appreciate. We want you to It's called TSL in
30:25
Speaker 3: the business time spent listening. We want you to stay
30:28
Speaker 3: with the with the with the w CCHS all day.
30:30
Speaker 3: I just don't think it was the o proper time.
30:33
Speaker 3: I was here to talk about a particular subject, and
30:35
Speaker 3: that was the need for poll workers. I have, I
30:38
Speaker 3: have been, and you know, full disclosure, I used to
30:41
Speaker 3: work for Mac Warner. I've said this, But did I
30:43
Speaker 3: agree with everything Mac Warner did?
30:45
Speaker 11: No?
30:46
Speaker 3: If I agreed that everything he's done since I've left,
30:48
Speaker 3: know how many people actually believe and fall in line
30:51
Speaker 3: with what their boss says on everything.
30:53
Speaker 2: You know.
30:54
Speaker 3: Uh, and we have some differences of opinions on that.
30:57
Speaker 3: I'll get out of that. Ask for Chris Warner, of course,
31:00
Speaker 3: he is the Republican candidate to take over for his
31:02
Speaker 3: brother for Secretary of State. Chris Warner has been on
31:05
Speaker 3: this show, and Chris Warner is always welcome. And as
31:09
Speaker 3: we get closer and closer to November fifth, I'm going
31:11
Speaker 3: to have more candidate interviews, so I'll talk to Oh.
31:14
Speaker 3: I ask Chris Warner that myself when he's on the show.
31:18
Speaker 3: Text says, the people who wrote that resolution that you
31:22
Speaker 3: referred to are part of the unofficial Warner Caucus of
31:25
Speaker 3: the Legislature. I haven't heard that before. Tex says we
31:27
Speaker 3: should be celebrating that. Potentially we could be placing a
31:32
Speaker 3: Woody Williams memorial in the Capitol. That's something everyone can
31:36
Speaker 3: be proud of. I would agree with that. Text says
31:42
Speaker 3: the case of the election resolution is nothing more than
31:44
Speaker 3: getting caught trying effort and people have noticed. Mission accomplished,
31:48
Speaker 3: says the text. Texas says on the two percent tax cut,
31:51
Speaker 3: Justice did the right thing for the wrong reason. He
31:54
Speaker 3: was likely thinking legacy, and that's all fine. I suppose
31:56
Speaker 3: in reality the two percent will test the formulas and
31:59
Speaker 3: triggers in place to move closer to zero. That's the
32:01
Speaker 3: over that's over arching, not to talked about goal. We
32:06
Speaker 3: should continue to test the formula to find the right
32:08
Speaker 3: place and the curve for the lowest income tax possible
32:10
Speaker 3: to meet the basics while putting more money back into
32:12
Speaker 3: the economy to drive more economic activity. The exercise alone
32:16
Speaker 3: is worth the effort. This move will also put the
32:18
Speaker 3: income tax as a percentage of our total revenue closer
32:21
Speaker 3: to that of the sales tax. The momentum is there
32:24
Speaker 3: to begin discussing a move to have a sales tax
32:26
Speaker 3: overtake the income tax in that regard tax consumption, not income,

35:05
Speaker 3: Eighteen minutes away from ten. Ryan Nicholson, Desire producer Today,
35:08
Speaker 3: welcome back to the show. We are going to go
35:10
Speaker 3: to delicate Kaylee Young at the Capitol here momentarily, but
35:12
Speaker 3: we got breaking news. Let's go to the newsroom for
35:14
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence. Chris, good morning, Well, good morning Dave.
35:16
Speaker 6: Evidently there was a wreck of a semi around two
35:19
Speaker 6: thirty this morning on Interstate sixty four. It happened around
35:23
Speaker 6: the Putnam Cabal County line between Hurricane and Milton, and it's.
35:27
Speaker 5: Off the road.
35:28
Speaker 6: However, in order to remove that tractor trailer, Hurricane police
35:32
Speaker 6: tell me they're going to have to shut down sixty
35:34
Speaker 6: four between those two exits for the next hour or so.
35:38
Speaker 6: So the detour will be from Milton and Hurricane over
35:41
Speaker 6: to Route sixty. So expect to have some congestion in
35:46
Speaker 6: that area. To get through there for the next hour
35:48
Speaker 6: or so or however long it takes to remove that
35:51
Speaker 6: semi from the side of the road.
35:52
Speaker 3: And this is westbound near Hurricane and Milton westbound.
35:55
Speaker 6: If you're going toward Huntington, you'll have to get off
35:58
Speaker 6: and detour at the Hurricane exit over the Round sixty
36:01
Speaker 6: and vice versa.
36:02
Speaker 3: Eastbound.
36:02
Speaker 6: If you're coming from Milton, they'll have that one.
36:04
Speaker 3: Closed as well. So all right, Chris, I appreciate it.
36:06
Speaker 3: Matthew I's MA nine forty three of a Dave Island

36:16
Speaker 3: a General Hardware WV dot Com appreciate Chris. In the newsroom.
36:19
Speaker 3: Let's go now to the Capital. Delicate. Kaylee Young is here, delegate.
36:22
Speaker 3: Good morning, Good.
36:23
Speaker 15: Morning, Dave. I literally just walked into the capital.
36:26
Speaker 3: Perfect time, so you can say, legally, you're in the Capitol, right,
36:29
Speaker 3: you don't make me out to a lie, right that
36:31
Speaker 3: you're not Starbucks or something. Okay, all right, so you're
36:35
Speaker 3: in the building. Lots of news coming out of the
36:37
Speaker 3: Capitol yesterday a chief of importance to you and others.
36:41
Speaker 3: The House yesterday passed HB two twenty six, also known
36:44
Speaker 3: as the Child Independent Care Credit Act. Your thoughts an
36:47
Speaker 3: exactly delegate on what this does.
36:49
Speaker 15: So, I'm excited about this bill. It's a tax credit
36:52
Speaker 15: that mirrors the federal tax credit. About eleven thousand families
36:54
Speaker 15: in West Virginia have taken it in the past, and
36:57
Speaker 15: it would provide you a credit back after you've already
37:00
Speaker 15: paid for childcare. So we know childcare is really expensive
37:03
Speaker 15: and this would give you a little bit of relief.
37:05
Speaker 15: It's not a huge credit, and average families in West
37:08
Speaker 15: Virginia will se about two hundred and twenty seven dollars,
37:10
Speaker 15: but it could be up to one thousand, depending on
37:13
Speaker 15: your income and also how much you've paid in childcare.
37:15
Speaker 3: Now, there was also I understand an amendment that was
37:18
Speaker 3: proposed to that amendment failed. Can you talk about that?
37:21
Speaker 3: That's right?
37:21
Speaker 15: So this text credit is non refundable, meaning that it's
37:24
Speaker 15: kind of just it lessens your burden for your income taxes.
37:28
Speaker 15: If we tried to make it refundable yesterday, and it
37:30
Speaker 15: was a bipartisan vote, but unfortunately it didn't pass. So
37:34
Speaker 15: if it would have been refundable. Then you would have
37:36
Speaker 15: gotten it back, you know, if you if you got
37:38
Speaker 15: a tax refund. So we just wanted to make sure
37:40
Speaker 15: people would actually see that money. But now they're just
37:42
Speaker 15: going to get it lowered on their personal income tax
37:44
Speaker 15: in addition to their personal income text being lower than
37:47
Speaker 15: years prior.
37:48
Speaker 3: And I know that you and others. I had you
37:50
Speaker 3: on the show a couple of weeks ago, and you
37:52
Speaker 3: and some others, both Republicans and Democrats, had said, look,
37:55
Speaker 3: you know this, all this talk about the tax cut,
37:57
Speaker 3: and again they look like they're going to compromise two
38:00
Speaker 3: percent of what the governor wanted. All that's well and good,
38:04
Speaker 3: but you and others have said, we got to talk
38:05
Speaker 3: about childcare above and beyond anything else. Are you happy
38:09
Speaker 3: that we at least had some discussions that we made
38:12
Speaker 3: in your opinion, would you go as far as to
38:14
Speaker 3: say that we actually made we made up a little ground.
38:18
Speaker 15: We're making up a little ground for parents. We're not
38:20
Speaker 15: doing anything to stabilize the crisis. And I mean a
38:23
Speaker 15: childcare center. Bible Center's childcare center just closed this week.
38:26
Speaker 15: So childcare centers are closing left and right in Charleston
38:29
Speaker 15: for their infant and two year old rooms. And so
38:32
Speaker 15: we're making ground, but we're also losing it very quickly.
38:35
Speaker 15: It's a crisis, and we have to we have to
38:37
Speaker 15: do a multi pronged approach that not only helps out
38:39
Speaker 15: families to make sure that they can afford it and
38:41
Speaker 15: find it, but make sure that these providers stay open
38:44
Speaker 15: because that's really one of the biggest struggles. And yeah,
38:47
Speaker 15: it does look like there's going to be a compromise
38:49
Speaker 15: on the income tax, but they're taking that money from
38:51
Speaker 15: the Department of Human Services, which is where we could
38:54
Speaker 15: be funding childcare.
38:56
Speaker 3: Talking again with special with a delegate to Kayla Jung
38:59
Speaker 3: on the special session the Capitol and you you are
39:01
Speaker 3: among the others I think that think that this thing
39:04
Speaker 3: is going to wrap up today.
39:06
Speaker 15: I think so that's what we're being told. But you know,
39:08
Speaker 15: you never know.
39:09
Speaker 3: What are you looking at today, what's on your schedule today.
39:12
Speaker 15: We've got another childcare bill today, it's a pilot program.
39:15
Speaker 15: We've got the income tax bill. I imagine there will
39:18
Speaker 15: be a fight about some statues. And I'm hoping we
39:22
Speaker 15: don't see a resolution about overturning an election.
39:25
Speaker 3: Well that's I wanted to get your take on that.
39:27
Speaker 3: And again, maybe I'm guiltier or more guilty or equally
39:31
Speaker 3: guilty with others because, as I said, A Hopy wrote
39:33
Speaker 3: about it in his commentary today, Brad and I talked
39:35
Speaker 3: about it. I talked about it yesterday. Maybe we shouldn't
39:37
Speaker 3: just give attention to things like that. I don't know,
39:39
Speaker 3: but it's a part of the official record. Your take
39:41
Speaker 3: on what those five Republicans put forth on Sunday.
39:44
Speaker 15: It's more than five at this point, more have signed on.
39:49
Speaker 15: But yeah, I mean to me, I think it's a
39:51
Speaker 15: really undemocratic, unpatriotic thing to preemptively overturn an election. And
39:56
Speaker 15: quite frankly, it's been in national news. I've had people
39:58
Speaker 15: reaching out from all around the country asking about it,
40:01
Speaker 15: and my own conditionents is terrified. They want their both
40:03
Speaker 15: to count.
40:04
Speaker 3: All right, we'll keep an eye on things over there
40:06
Speaker 3: today with online and on the air. Keyla is Alway,
40:10
Speaker 3: Delegate Young, I appreciate you being here. We'll talk soon.
40:12
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot.

40:54

40:59
Speaker 3: says a Texter, says, uh As McAfee regrets sacrificing his
41:07
Speaker 3: reputation as a competent. Uh as competent I should say
41:10
Speaker 3: in exchange for killing his career by leaning into the
41:13
Speaker 3: maga cult pathetic. Well, I'll say this, uh, And that's
41:16
Speaker 3: one of the things that I disagree strongly with Secretary
41:19
Speaker 3: Warner on. However, I don't know that it's gonna hurt
41:22
Speaker 3: him here in West Virginia. I mean to be honest
41:23
Speaker 3: with you. Now, he ran for governor, and of course
41:26
Speaker 3: he was he was defeated. Uh he uh And and
41:29
Speaker 3: you know in the Turney General Patrick Morrison got the nominee.
41:32
Speaker 3: But did it hurt Did that particular thing hurt him
41:34
Speaker 3: in West Virginia? I mean, I I don't in that
41:37
Speaker 3: particular primary, I don't think. I don't think it hurt
41:40
Speaker 3: him that much. I think what uh what hurt him
41:43
Speaker 3: was like cash and that's that's what I think hurt him. Texas, Ironically,
41:47
Speaker 3: Mac makes me less confident in our election process. Tex says,
41:51
Speaker 3: you always protect Mac Warner. You know he's alt right
41:54
Speaker 3: and bear some of the blame for the attacks on
41:55
Speaker 3: poll workers, but they're wor not in West Virginia. Who
41:59
Speaker 3: wants to work a poll for or stopped to steal
42:00
Speaker 3: when he'll just lie that the CIA rigged the election
42:03
Speaker 3: and he'll bring in the trader Mike Flynn, who lies
42:05
Speaker 3: about the deep state stealing an election? Why caught all
42:08
Speaker 3: these authoritarian leaning weirdos? Tell me how I differentiate who
42:12
Speaker 3: is deep state and who's just a poll worker. This
42:14
Speaker 3: is what happens when we pretend that the fantasy of
42:16
Speaker 3: rigged elections is worthy of debate. It's insidious. It should
42:19
Speaker 3: be dead and buried. Well again, Mike Warner, whoever the
42:21
Speaker 3: Secretary of State is, cannot do anything about protecting poll
42:26
Speaker 3: workers in other states. There have been no issues here
42:28
Speaker 3: in West Virginia. However, again, Mick and I don't agree
42:32
Speaker 3: on everything, and I referenced the story that I saw
42:37
Speaker 3: on television over the weekend out of Georgia where they
42:39
Speaker 3: read emails where people were threatened, and think, now, there's
42:41
Speaker 3: no place for that. There's absolutely no place for that.
42:44
Speaker 3: And we have a shortage of poll workers in West Virginia. Again,
42:49
Speaker 3: a secretary set it's not necessarily a crisis level at
42:52
Speaker 3: this point, but in some of our listening areas Cannah, Putnam,
42:55
Speaker 3: there were like eight ten counties or so outside of
42:58
Speaker 3: our listing areas, many of them that could use extra
43:01
Speaker 3: poll workers at this point. I don't know that anybody
43:04
Speaker 3: in West Virginia, though, is going to look at what
43:07
Speaker 3: goes on in other states and think, well, I don't
43:08
Speaker 3: want to be a poll worker because that happens here.
43:10
Speaker 3: Because it doesn't. However, it's a good point. Maybe it does,
43:14
Speaker 3: I mean, or maybe people could think that way. I'll

46:31
Speaker 3: I don't think this is an issue in West Virginia.
46:34
Speaker 3: I don't think, but I'll say this, if I were
46:38
Speaker 3: considering being a pollworker in some of these other other
46:40
Speaker 3: states where there were issues based on the rhetoric, based
46:43
Speaker 3: on the threats, I'd probably reconsider in other states, not
46:46
Speaker 3: necessarily West Virginia, Texas. Yeah, Dave, you say only a
46:49
Speaker 3: few Republicans are on this resolution is minimizing the situation.
46:53
Speaker 3: It's serious. People had this notion to begin with. It

Speaker 3: not to this extent, I don't know, but I wish
47:18
Speaker 3: they would spend more time focusing on what they're there for,
47:21
Speaker 3: like what we saw with the tax compromise yesterday, and
47:24
Speaker 3: and what delicate young and I talked about with childcare
47:27
Speaker 3: and things of that nature. I wish that David focus
47:30
Speaker 3: more on that. But as my grandma used to say,
47:32
Speaker 3: and I'll clean it up so Ryan doesn't fire me.
47:34
Speaker 3: Want in one hand and you know what in the other,
47:36
Speaker 3: and see which one gets filled up more quickly. Hobby
47:39
Speaker 3: coming up a ten oh six Metro News talkline. Brad
47:41
Speaker 3: is back with more in the session. We're all keeping
47:43
Speaker 3: an eye on Milton, Hurricane Milton as the barrels toward Florida.
47:46
Speaker 3: Evan Brown Fox News Radio is there and he's going
47:49
Speaker 3: to talk about it with Hoppy plus Ryan Schmels for
47:51
Speaker 3: Fox News Radio. On the national debt. The economic plans
47:54
Speaker 3: that are being floated out there by both of the
47:56
Speaker 3: leading presidential candidates, Trump and Harris will add significantly to
48:00
Speaker 3: the debts. Ryan Schmell's will weigh in on That was
48:03
Speaker 3: Michael Folio. He's the legal director for Disability Rights in
48:06
Speaker 3: West Virginia. They are suing the state's Department of Health Facilities,
48:09
Speaker 3: alleging the state isn't doing enough to protect patients' rights.
48:12
Speaker 3: All that and more coming up with Hoppy at ten six,
48:15
Speaker 3: Texas Breaking, Mike Pushkin claims former Republican Senate leader vi
48:19
Speaker 3: Vic Sprows uses a fake Twitter account called change wv
48:23
Speaker 3: more to troll fellow Republicans. So, so you're gonna tell
48:29
Speaker 3: me there's fake Twitter accounts? Really? Really?
48:33
Speaker 9: Wow?
48:33
Speaker 3: Okay, didn't know that. So the Kanah County Board of
48:37
Speaker 3: Education members are going to be earning their money, and
48:40
Speaker 3: it's not a lot of money that they get. Three
48:42
Speaker 3: straight days of meetings they meet they had they met
48:44
Speaker 3: last night through office in Elizabeth Street, and tonight and
48:47
Speaker 3: tomorrow night they're going to meet in two separate meetings,
48:50
Speaker 3: these republic informationals to make public the input of closing
48:54
Speaker 3: two middle schools, or to get the public's input. I
48:57
Speaker 3: should say, one meeting tonight at six at Riverside concerning
49:00
Speaker 3: the fate of East Bank Middle School, and the other
49:03
Speaker 3: tomorrow night at Saint Albans and discussed the fate of
49:05
Speaker 3: McKinley Middle School. I've had Conawa County School Superintendent Tom
49:10
Speaker 3: Williams on the show in the past to talk about
49:12
Speaker 3: it as well as other board members including Rick Cavender,
49:15
Speaker 3: and the answers are the same, older buildings. It takes
49:18
Speaker 3: way too much money to keep up the maintenance on
49:20
Speaker 3: these building and declining enrollment, more and more parents are
49:24
Speaker 3: simply choosing other options for their kids' education, be at homeschooling,
49:27
Speaker 3: private school, whatever. And it's especially a problem in Kanawa
49:31
Speaker 3: County and no community wants to lose their schools. Schools,
49:37
Speaker 3: as you know, for many in community, especially smaller ones,
49:40
Speaker 3: are kind of like the bedrock. It's where the meetings
49:42
Speaker 3: are hell, that's where the scouts go and water projects
49:45
Speaker 3: are discussed and carnivals and things of that nature. But
49:48
Speaker 3: the times are changing and something has got to give.
49:53
Speaker 3: And with all due respect to Superintendent Williams for end
49:55
Speaker 3: of the show and the Board of ED members don't
49:57
Speaker 3: listen to the public input, but most would agree that
50:00
Speaker 3: the decisions to close, consolidate, whatever you want to call it,
50:03
Speaker 3: have already pretty much been made. Now that doesn't mean
50:05
Speaker 3: that you should not make your voices heard at these
50:07
Speaker 3: meetings though, so get out there and tell them what
50:09
Speaker 3: you think. It is a sad reality though of where
50:13
Speaker 3: we are The Dave Island Show in five any live

50:31
Speaker 3: are free and they're available at our studios doing normal
50:34
Speaker 3: business hours eleven eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston. Let
50:38
Speaker 3: me see, Texas Dave. Instead of giving rich people public
50:41
Speaker 3: school tax dollars to put their kids in private schools
50:44
Speaker 3: and charter schools, we need to help working families with childcare,
50:47
Speaker 3: says a Texture Texas Dave. When people see these right
50:50
Speaker 3: wingers out of about, we need to confront them no
50:52
Speaker 3: matter where they are. They can't hide, says a Texture.
50:57
Speaker 3: Texta says Dave mac Warner one of the reasons people
51:00
Speaker 3: are not working the polls because he thinks the election
51:02
Speaker 3: was fixed. Well, I think he's done a pretty good
51:04
Speaker 3: job of saying that we don't have issues in West Virginia.
51:07
Speaker 3: But so, I think he's done a pretty good job
51:09
Speaker 3: of that. Coming up on the show tomorrow, among other things,
51:11
Speaker 3: we're gonna talk about to talk about the Girl Scouts.
51:14
Speaker 3: I don't know if we can still call them girl
51:15
Speaker 3: Scouts anymore. Scouts. Girl Scouts are okay, Ryan, but the
51:19
Speaker 3: boy Scouts are not. It's just scouts, Is that right? Okay?
51:22
Speaker 5: All right?
51:22

51:36
Speaker 3: Texas Dave hard to imagine Delegate Young truly cares about
51:39
Speaker 3: West Virginia's votes counting. Since she led the charge to
51:42
Speaker 3: install Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party quote nominee for president,
51:46
Speaker 3: not one single West Virginia Democratic voter has voted for Harris,
51:50
Speaker 3: and many West Virginia Democrats left the party because of him, Texas, Dave,
51:55
Speaker 3: kind of funny how democrats constantly spew there made up
51:57
Speaker 3: bs terms of misinformation disinformation and claim everything they don't
52:01
Speaker 3: like or can't rebut is a conspiracy theory over and over,
52:05
Speaker 3: says a lot when they refuse to acknowledge that those
52:07
Speaker 3: things have always been true. Tex says, the fact is
52:11
Speaker 3: Macwarner's permanently ruined his reputation. When history writes about him,
52:14
Speaker 3: they'll write about him holding a stop to steal sign.
52:16
Speaker 3: What a sad legacy to leave. All right, we got
52:18
Speaker 3: to go. Thank you so much to all our callers
52:20
Speaker 3: and textures, the afore mentioned Secretary of Saint Macwarner for
52:23
