- 0:00Good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:03It is Thursday. The sun is shining and I'm getting that gleam off those
- 0:06brand new cars. There a Dungeons Born Dungeons, Toya. How you doing
- 0:10it, Brad, Good morning, Tom. I'm doing really well. We're
- 0:13so glad they're all with us here this morning. It is a beautiful morning
- 0:17in Bartlesville. It's the first Thursday in April twenty twenty four, and it's
- 0:21our eighty third anniversary of selling Fords in Bartlesville. That's really great. That's
- 0:27again time a year for us, and we're really you know, proud of
- 0:31that legacy. Several hundred thousand vehicles later, you know, I've actually we've
- 0:36been selling Fords in Oklahoma for ninety five years now, and it's a a
- 0:41lot of people can say that they can't that's true, and a third generation,
- 0:46you know, it's a We're not in anyways the largest or anything.
- 0:50We really focus on the local and our community and our customers, just like
- 0:55the from the beginning. My my grandfather went to work at a Ford dealership
- 0:59and talk at Oklahoma when he was in high school. He and two of
- 1:02his brothers. I have a picture of them on a basketball team playing for
- 1:07that sponsored team like we do. And uh, and they they went off
- 1:11to college and came back and the dealer helped him get started as a Ford
- 1:15dealer and made it through the depression and and and the war war World War
- 1:23two. It was a really interesting time to be a car dealer. Didn't
- 1:27get many new cars then, and uh, you know, Ford was all
- 1:32building stuff for the war effort and made it through all that, made it
- 1:36through to the fifties and sixties, grew to have lots of brands, shrunk
- 1:41back down now to just Ford and Toyota. But it's resilience and the ability
- 1:46to adapt. That's what it takes to make it this long. But that's
- 1:49what's great about Bartlesville, I think too. And one reason why it's it's
- 1:53we're all so passionate about it is you know that stuff like what Concern does
- 1:59and it's a yeah, I've got Peggy at the Crowder here, executive director
- 2:02of Concern, and Chris Wilson who's on the board and also the director of
- 2:08Barsville Redevelopment Trust Authority, right, and so we'll talk about all that.
- 2:14But Concern was a great or very important organization to my grandmother. She was
- 2:20a member of the United Methodist Church and she was in the ladies group that
- 2:25helped create Concern and and it was you know, so that and and we
- 2:30always usually talk about my grandfather on the show because he was the patriarch and
- 2:36ran the business, and but it was my grandmother was critical in that.
- 2:39And she was involved in so many organizations in Bartlesville. And that's that's one
- 2:45reason why the company is really focused on stuff like that in our community.
- 2:50That compassion, the Concern exhibits and it really is about taking care of people
- 2:54in me right, yes, absolutely, Well, we appreciate your grandma and
- 3:00the other seventeen founding churches that started Concerned in nineteen sixty seven. So we've
- 3:05been around for a long time. And the need, unfortunately is greater than
- 3:09ever and the cost of food has exploded that people just can't afford it,
- 3:15and we have the ability to help serve them in a way that others are,
- 3:23but maybe a little bit differently with our food pantuation so unique and how
- 3:27you you know, you bring together the churches in our community and focus that
- 3:31on you know, on people who need things, and you know, so
- 3:35it is different from the other kinds of safety nets we have. Yeah.
- 3:38Yes, the food we provide is for about four to seven days, and
- 3:45anyone in Washington County is able to receive food every thirty days. And we
- 3:50were able to increase that service because of our capital improvements that we have received
- 3:54in the last year and are just now putting together with a walk and freezer
- 4:00especially, so we have more storage, more ability to get more food.
- 4:04But with that is the increased costs and such, right, and then we
- 4:09also are delivering to three senior complexes, so we have the ability to serve
- 4:15one hundred and ninety two units. About seventy five take advantage of that.
- 4:18So we're very excited about being able to grow our services because of what the
- 4:24community needs. We're always looking for that, right, And I know you've
- 4:27got all an event coming up, and you're always looking to raise money for
- 4:31those capital needs that you have and for the just the ongoing effort to keep
- 4:36filling the pantry and stuff like that. But let's talk about the event,
- 4:42Chris. I know you've been involved in that and it's such a neat thing
- 4:45to get people downtown and see the living space that people have downtown now,
- 4:48it's evolved so much in recent years, and it's called dwell downtown. Now,
- 4:55what created this idea? How did you come up with this well dwell
- 4:58downtown? You know, figured out that most people dwell. Dwell means a
- 5:03lot of things to a lot of people, So it's not just living,
- 5:06but it's also just being downtown experiencing downtown. So we wanted to have something
- 5:12that was going to highlight what we did downtown and what you can do downtown.
- 5:16At the same time, start to tell people about what was upstairs,
- 5:20what is above those businesses, because a lot of times people look and go
- 5:24have no idea, and especially they have no idea that there are apartments up
- 5:29there. And there are some pretty cool apartments up there. So and many
- 5:33people have never seen those before. Even the ones that have seen some of
- 5:38them, they haven't seen all of them. No, I think I've been
- 5:40in one of them. Maybe very cool. And so you'll get a chance
- 5:46to visit these residences and tell us about what the evening will consist of.
- 5:51So we have a variety of kinds of apartments and lofts. So we have
- 5:58studios, we have one bedroom, one bath, we have two bedroom,
- 6:00one bath and two bedroom, two baths, so you'll get to see all
- 6:03kinds of them. We have some that are very historic, very period style,
- 6:09and we have some that are very modern. So again you've got all
- 6:13kinds of ways to see what's available. Some of these are our airbnb types
- 6:19and others are for rent, and so we all have to, you know,
- 6:25be mindful of the property owners and the tenants, and so some of
- 6:30those are actual tenants that are going to let us in to see what they've
- 6:34done with those apartments. So it will consist. Right now, we have
- 6:40seven apartments all together, so we have basically one more than we thought we
- 6:44were going to have, and so they are going to consist of the Noble
- 6:49Loss which is on West second Street. We have the Refinery downtown, which
- 6:56is actually the jewel Box hotel apartments. Those two in there, there's two
- 7:00in the Noble Lofts, and then there is one called the Bliss Apartments,
- 7:03and that was located at one twelve easton East second Street, and that's up
- 7:09above what normally you people would remember the Karate Studio, and that one is
- 7:15actually something that is very hidden and it's a it's a split level apartment and
- 7:19not many people know anything about that one. It's really the first time that
- 7:24we would be able to show it to the public. Then we go down
- 7:27to the Beauford Lofts and we see a studio and this one's a particularly neat
- 7:31one because it has a great graphic on the wall that used to be of
- 7:36a store that was built before the Buford was And so a lot of these
- 7:42buildings have party walls. They didn't just build separate walls, they just added
- 7:46on to the next building. Okay. So and then we finally finally go
- 7:51to the McCoy Lofts above McCoy Jewelers, and that one is has a particular
- 7:59tenant that letting us in to see what he's been able to do with his
- 8:01apartment. That sounds fascinating. And it's all on what is the date again,
- 8:07April sixteenth, Tuesday, April sixteenth, from four thirty to seven thirty,
- 8:16And there are two tours that are available at five and six o'clock.
- 8:20So the easiest way to get tickets is through our website Concerncares dot com.
- 8:24And then you get to choose which tour you would like to go to,
- 8:28and there's a reception that's available prior to both of those tours. So it's
- 8:31going to be a really fun night. Most people are going to come downtown
- 8:35just because they're nosy, but others are really interested in what Bartlesville has to
- 8:41offer. Most people know what it has to offer, but not like they
- 8:46don't know that there's what one hundred and seventy two available apartments in downtown Birtlesville
- 8:52alone. Yes, Chris, I didn't know that. Chris gave us aw
- 8:54this awesome information. And we have the Downtown bartles Little Group that is our
- 9:01premier sponsor, and of course the Refinery offering us a space for the reception,
- 9:05and the Young Professional Group of Bartlesville and they're actually going to be the
- 9:09tour guides. We're going to have these young people that are interested in the
- 9:13growth of Bartlesville and especially downtown. So it's going to be a really fun
- 9:18night. If you have any questions, you can call Concern at nine one
- 9:22eight three three six four six nine three. So it's we're hoping to make
- 9:28some money to be able to continue our services, especially with our increased services
- 9:35at Concern that are greatly needed in our community. And it's so important that
- 9:39I mean, we've seen a lot of great sponsors come up, you know,
- 9:41I think Dungeons is part of this. And then of course we have
- 9:45a Zach Henderson State Farm Insurance which with good tie in here because you need
- 9:50insurance if you're going to do apartments right. And then of course we also
- 9:54had the Apartments and Hotel Phillips that even though they're not on the tour,
- 9:58they're going to support this anyway. Awesome. And then our other sponsors are
- 10:01Cherokee Nation and of course Dungeons and Brad and their group that have always supported
- 10:09concern and we greatly appreciate it. And then Arvest Bank Bank first started bank
- 10:16and Whist similar agency excellent and a lot of great supporters that we continually have
- 10:24that concern. And I love that it draws attention to downtown and all the
- 10:26work that's gone down there. I mean, there's so much going on and
- 10:30you think back to you know, you know, thirty forty years ago,
- 10:35and now it evolved from in a place where we all went to the movies
- 10:39and eat and all that to kind of be in a place where people went
- 10:43to work, and then they went somewhere else and then it started coming back
- 10:46to life and it has not stopped. I mean, and you've seen that
- 10:50too as you've been working at the Redevelopment Authority. We sure have. I
- 10:54mean, it's it's been a great journey. It's been a village that's taking
- 10:58this on. It's not one person. It's the great thing about all the
- 11:01property owners, all the business owners. They're all pretty much together and we're
- 11:03all in it. Yeah, we're all in everybody. Were meant to have
- 11:07a rich and vibrant downtown. That's right, that's right. And we have
- 11:09supported the community green there and they're great community space we have there now.
- 11:15And and we you know, we continually add on to the great offerings that
- 11:20we have. And we think about Frank and Lois that's been there for a
- 11:22long time, that stall warts has been constant and consistent all the time.
- 11:26And then we just got painted Horse and we have the newest ones, you
- 11:30know, the lounge and the palace rooms and the lollipops pizza. I mean,
- 11:35and these are entrepreneurs, you know, they're not chained. They're entrepreneurs
- 11:37that are really trying to do something. Many are really trying to do it
- 11:41for Yeah. Absolutely, they live here, right, they want to have
- 11:45places to go and so they're doing it for each other, absolutely absolutely,
- 11:50So it's a it is a great community and we love that kind of thing
- 11:54and we just want to continue to expand what we can do and offer more,
- 11:58uh services to those people that are are doing great things for our community.
- 12:03That's awesome. And and tell us a little bit about that. I
- 12:07mean, are are some of these places we're visiting? Are they been involved
- 12:11in redevelopment actions? And they have they have so well. Actually the refinery
- 12:18received money from us from the Barrels Wore Redevelopment Trust Authority and I'm just going
- 12:22to call it b r T, A for sure familiar with. And then
- 12:26so that was, you know, a huge undertake and it was about a
- 12:31two point five million dollar project when after that whole place burn if you may
- 12:35have remembered that one burn on the corner, and that was before Hideaway,
- 12:39before Honey's Flowers, and before the refinery came in. So that was big
- 12:45deal. And we also did the Noble Lofts, which was also about a
- 12:48two point five million dollar project. That actual we took it completely vacant building
- 12:54that was rapidly falling down and changed that one to eleven lofts and four commercial
- 13:01spaces in which are full, which are you know, a fantastic thing.
- 13:05The next one we have, I think the next one we did was the
- 13:11McCoy lofts, and so those are other things that have happened, but they
- 13:15were further back. And this, I mean, what it does is create
- 13:18more business in a way, all this activity down there, the sales tax
- 13:22that creates just you mentioned Airbnb and people coming in to visit. I mean,
- 13:26certainly there's a lot of tourism in our area these days with what's going
- 13:31on around us regionally and also just to visit Bartlesville, and so it is
- 13:37it is a unique opportunity to kind of tile that together and get people out
- 13:41there and active and doing stuff. It absolutely is. I think said we
- 13:45have great entrepreneurs right now. You know, one of the people we did
- 13:48something recently with was Andrew Adrian Halwhite. The Palace Rooms, the whole upstairs,
- 13:54all the apartments up there was the result of both a b RT a
- 13:58grant and also a hud federal hope that's called HOPE six Mainstream Rent, So
- 14:03that creates seven apartments upstairs and those were affordable. So let's talk again about
- 14:11Concern and what's going on there. I know. Way we mentioned the event
- 14:13Dwell Downtown is on the sixteenth April sixteenth, four thirty to seven, I
- 14:22believe, And we'll start at the refinery, yeah, with the reception and
- 14:28then have a tour visiting seven locations in downtown Bartlesville where people are letting being
- 14:33generous enough to let people come in and visit. And it's all to support
- 14:37Concern. It is. And the cost of the tickets are twenty five dollars
- 14:41okay, yes, and that's pre sale and then thirty dollars at the door,
- 14:45okay. So we just wanted to make it available to everybody. This
- 14:48is our inaugural fundraiser. You can't use first Annuel because that's not proper from
- 14:56what I was told. And it will help Concern just continue our services and
- 15:07as stated, we're always looking for ways to help the community in whatever is
- 15:13needed. Right now, you have programs that you mentioned the food pantry,
- 15:16and then we have financial assistance. It's up to one hundred and fifty dollars
- 15:20per household per year and it really helps an individual a family stay in their
- 15:26home. So it could be utility disconnection, eviction issues, it could be
- 15:31a state idea that needs to be replaced because they need a job. We
- 15:37also have partnered with the Rotary Club and we are doing bus passes city ride
- 15:43bus passes just another barrier for employed individuals and also for t be a real
- 15:48difficult problem if people don't have access to a vehicle right And we also are
- 15:54working with Oklahoma Workforce in training programs because sometimes they need transferation. And then
- 16:00once you are in the city ride transportation process, you can also do a
- 16:07work ride for a dollar each way if you work and live in Barblesville in
- 16:11the city of limits. So it's a win win with so many collaborative individuals
- 16:17and organizations that we continue just growing in what we are needed. And Chriss
- 16:22it helped in men's ways with the Rotary with me personally introducing me to Concern
- 16:29four years ago when we moved here from West Virginia, So it was Chris
- 16:34that did most of all of that that I really appreciate being able to be
- 16:38the face in the director of a wonderful nonprofit in this region. And we
- 16:45also have the other Salvation Army a Gopy and Mary Martha, which are really
- 16:51a couple of blocks away, and we all work really well together to make
- 16:53sure that we have resources that are complimentary and necessarily right. That's a theme
- 17:03always in Bartlesville that we do. We do kind of have this network of
- 17:07organizations that really provide that safety net so to speak, and other opportunities for
- 17:12people throughout I mean, whether it's children and support for things like the Boys
- 17:18and Girls clubs and the YMCA and everything I mean I don't. We also
- 17:23have a pay program and that is for any individual that is not able to
- 17:29manage their Social Security finances. So it could be deemed necessary through the so
- 17:33Security office or from the individual itself or a family member that states this person
- 17:40needs assistance. And it does cost forty eight dollars a month for that program.
- 17:45But Darryl is well beyond just managing your finances. He looks at your
- 17:52whole life and what you need. He negotiates with local vendors for things that
- 17:56people need and making sure that everybody is safe. Great service. That's so
- 18:02awesome. And you know I mentioned our anniversary that going on this year,
- 18:07and what we're going to do again this year like we did last year,
- 18:10is make a donation for every car we sell. This month to a nonprofit
- 18:15in Bartlesville. It was so much fun. Last year we had you know,
- 18:19we gave away thousands of dollars the nonprofit that gets the most votes,
- 18:25so to speak. We'll actually we're going to give one hundred dollars every time
- 18:29we sell a car and then if the one that gets the most votes will
- 18:32make it two hundred and fifty dollars. And Hopestone got the most last year.
- 18:37Great organization. A neat story was that it was one of our salesmen
- 18:42who had had a experience at Hopstone someone in his family had had cancer and
- 18:47needed that support, and basically he rallied and told everybody he sold the car
- 18:52to about that, and some of the other salesmen started supporting it too,
- 18:56and so that personal connection really made the difference. So I know that's that's
- 19:00how this works in Martlesville, that people have their favorite things and personal connections.
- 19:06But that's what makes our community so rich and why all those organizations can
- 19:11keep providing that network that you've got there. So we concerned will definitely be
- 19:15promoting and hopefully we'll get some votes. Good well, I bet you do,
- 19:19ye, and we'll Yeah, we've got quite a list this year.
- 19:23We started try to limit it, but then employees start saying, well what
- 19:27about this and that, and so it's really you can pick any nonprofit you
- 19:32want. I'm there are quite a few. Somebody's got me a list of
- 19:37something like one hundred and fifty that and then they said that was the list,
- 19:40and then I kept thinking of some that weren't on there. But it
- 19:45is great and this is just a chance to support your your community. If
- 19:48you are in the market for a car, take advantage of that. Come
- 19:52check it out. It done just our team has all the information and will
- 19:55help you do that. We've got, you know, another thing going on
- 19:59this month. It's a big anniversary for Mustang. The Mustang is going to
- 20:03be sixty years old on April seventeenth. That's a big thing in the Ford
- 20:07world. And for it was my first car, was it okay? Well,
- 20:11motor Mustangs are still iconic. I you know, we we I was
- 20:15talking to one of our customers who's actually a former Ford engineer for many for
- 20:22decades and he's got a sixty four and a half Mustang and we're trying to
- 20:26put together an event late maybe for Mustang birthday and our dealership birthday later this
- 20:30month, so keep keep your you know, we're shooting. Maybe it'll be
- 20:36on the twenty that last Saturday, on the twenty seventh, but we're still
- 20:38pulling all that together, so keep keep your eyes open for that. But
- 20:42big announcement this week was on the Mustang GTD, which is probably not the
- 20:48first driver for people. This is a bespoke, you know, like a
- 20:53you know, I don't know what do they call those cars there, but
- 20:56they're over three hundred thousand dollars Mustang made, made individually for someone, and
- 21:03they're going to Ford is going to make They wouldn't say how many, but
- 21:06not very many, so maybe one hundred or a couple hundred, and there'll
- 21:11be incredible vehicles if you were in it. You know, I've showed it
- 21:15to a few people, and it's one of the best engineered Fords ever made.
- 21:18I know that the whole team at Ford is really proud of it,
- 21:22and it can be kind of a halo vehicle and something to celebrate the Mustang's
- 21:26long heritage. But I think the cool thing about Mustang is it ranges all
- 21:30the way from that extreme to the sixty four and a half that really started
- 21:36out as kama As an economy car that was s forty and as early,
- 21:41a great vehicle for people. And what was yours? Oh, it was
- 21:47a nineteen eighty something or another, but it was a six shift and I
- 21:49burnt the clutch out really quickly. What can happen? It was horrible.
- 21:53But now my husband has he likes six shifts in his car, so I
- 21:59can drive both cars and not stole it out. For the first one,
- 22:07I had a beautiful I saw one of those on the road the other day
- 22:12and it was like an original one. It was. It was incredible.
- 22:15Those are great old cars. They did last a long time. And you
- 22:21know, so that that heritage of all the great forwards. And I'm not
- 22:25so right, And you know that's that's part of being in in this business
- 22:29that you know, all the new technology is is amazing. We we uh,
- 22:33we keep worrying about more stuff they're coming out with, and as they
- 22:37keep we keep transitioning into different power trains and how vehicles move and they drive
- 22:42with us and and help us assist us is driving. And there's so much
- 22:48safety stuff on these new vehicles. People really do need to check that out.
- 22:51There's lots of great stuff we can show you on on all the vehicles.
- 22:55Uh. Ford Blue Crews is a system that where in certain their parts
- 22:59there you can actually go hands free and not touch the wheel. Uh there's
- 23:03uh yeah, the Toyota Adaptive Cruise Control. It's kind of it. Actually,
- 23:07it's it works. I've used it several times. Toyota Adapter Cruise Control
- 23:14is really powerful. It it can since when you're going around turn, it
- 23:18slows you down and the apex of the turn and appropriate speed so you can
- 23:22be at your your speed control and then it'll sense that that we're going on
- 23:26a turn and it'll just bring you back down a little and then bring you
- 23:30back up out of it. And it's very comfortable and and you of course
- 23:34got to keep your hands on the wheels and these days, but you know,
- 23:37in another ten years, who knows if we'll even need to do that.
- 23:41My daughter just bought a four hybrid in Saint Lewis and she loves it.
- 23:48You know, it's the best of both worlds gas and you know,
- 23:52it in a great gas mileage and everything. She's just just loves it.
- 23:56And you know that's you know, they're just getting to see plug in hybrids
- 24:00too. Which actually gives you that smaller range where you can be truly electric,
- 24:03but the flexibility to go off and just fill it up. And they
- 24:07got a road trip from Saint Louis to Bartlesville easily, you know. So
- 24:12there are lots of great choices for people, and of course we've got them
- 24:15all out of Doune just and stuff coming real soon. We've got we'll have
- 24:21a new land cruiser from Toyota. This is hearkening back to the original land
- 24:26Cruiser. We're going to be a really popular vehicle, lower cost than the
- 24:30land cruiser that went away a couple of years ago. That was really the
- 24:33Apex SUV for Toyota. Now Sequaia has taken that and this will be more
- 24:40of a Bronco like land cruiser. I think it'll be really competitive with Bronco
- 24:45and some of the Jeep models. And then so we're excited about that.
- 24:48We've got the twenty five Explorer will be our first twenty five moderor year vehicle.
- 24:53Pretty soon. I've got a Raptors on the ground right now, a
- 24:57Raptor F one fifty han Bronco available. Pretty cool, and we're gonna you
- 25:03mentioned the hybrids we've got we'll have our first Tacoma Hybrid allocated in the second
- 25:07half of this month, and we have an all new Tacoma and it's we're
