- 0:57Speaker 1: been a while now, but American Century Championship pretty impressive.
- 1:00Speaker 2: With a little late to that one. It's just true.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's been a little while. Good to see you, buddy.
- 1:04Speaker 1: August edition of Unscripted. Talk to me about Italy. Let's
- 1:07Speaker 1: go Italia, Roberto Benini.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Life is beautiful. Oh how come down? That was they?
- 1:17Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We rented a car for the whole trip and just
- 1:21Speaker 2: just absolutely hauled ass around Italy, kind of through the
- 1:25Speaker 2: more through the interior. I wanted to see a lot
- 1:27Speaker 2: of like the Tustany region, but also south like Umbria
- 1:30Speaker 2: and Perusia. So it was great. We had the we
- 1:33Speaker 2: had the Spotify Summer Vacation in Italy playlist going and
- 1:36Speaker 2: it was just beam bomb Beam, bom bomb Beam and
- 1:42Speaker 2: then Dean Martin on the Frank Sinatra. So that was great.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It was an amazing trip. I was telling tal before
- 1:47Speaker 2: before you got on next year, I was late. Yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 2: one minute late is late, and uh it is just
- 1:58Speaker 2: by the like twelfth day. My wife is like, I
- 2:01Speaker 2: don't know if I can eat anymore, and I was like,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I can have one meal a day just because everything's
- 2:06Speaker 2: so heavy. It's not heavy because you know the way
- 2:10Speaker 2: they grow the wheat and stuff like that. Everything tastes
- 2:12Speaker 2: so much better and it's a different typ of car.
- 2:15Speaker 2: They could be passed all day. They don't get fat. Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but I like, I hit my limit. But it was
- 2:19Speaker 2: I mean, I mean brown butter sage ravioli. Oh god,
- 2:25Speaker 2: I was just I was coming all over the place.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Give us that here we go, don't give us that
- 2:30Speaker 2: we're fat.
- 2:31Speaker 3: How about what's the single best meal you had? That's
- 2:33Speaker 3: what I want to hear.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Okay, single single best meal I had. Which was really
- 2:37Speaker 2: cool is we were staying at this this little resort
- 2:41Speaker 2: in Perusia and it was actually just a small town
- 2:46Speaker 2: adjacent to Perusia called Brufa, and we were going to
- 2:50Speaker 2: go into town. So we're like, let's go into town
- 2:52Speaker 2: in Perusia to night and have dinner. And you know,
- 2:55Speaker 2: my wife's like, I don't want to go too far
- 2:57Speaker 2: as like fifteen twenty minutes. And we were like we
- 2:59Speaker 2: at that point we had driven like three four hours
- 3:01Speaker 2: a day, and she's like, God, I just want to
- 3:03Speaker 2: relax and have an apple all sprits. I'm like, no, no, let's
- 3:06Speaker 2: go take a beekuse we drive, we drive out of
- 3:08Speaker 2: the resort and like as we're driving to Perusia, there's
- 3:10Speaker 2: like this super tiny town the downtown of Brufa. It's
- 3:14Speaker 2: like a thousand people and as I'm driving by, I'm like,
- 3:17Speaker 2: there's this little restaurant. I was like, that looks interesting.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It's like looks really nice inside, and she's like, why
- 3:22Speaker 2: don't we try that? So we go in and you
- 3:24Speaker 2: know it's empty. There's one guy in there. We walk in,
- 3:27Speaker 2: but it's two young kids, brothers that opened this restaurant
- 3:32Speaker 2: in Brufa. And the one brother, the chef, was a
- 3:36Speaker 2: Michelin star chef in Denmark for like three four years,
- 3:39Speaker 2: came back they wanted to open a restaurant in Brufa,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and like, we looked at the reviews and it was like,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you know, ten reviews but all five stars. So we
- 3:48Speaker 2: were like, okay, let's have a let's let's eat here.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It was the best past I've had. That's where the
- 3:53Speaker 2: he made a brown butter sage ravioli with rabbit on
- 3:57Speaker 2: the inside. It was incredible. I'm sorry the PETA listeners here,
- 4:02Speaker 2: you can suck it as delicious.
- 4:05Speaker 3: But that's where gotta go to get the best feeling.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Gonna go too.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And it was thirteen euros per per per person bottle
- 4:13Speaker 2: of wine too. The kid the other brother was like
- 4:16Speaker 2: a somolier too, So it was just a great you know,
- 4:20Speaker 2: just the family. They came back to their their small
- 4:22Speaker 2: town open and w restaurant. It was really cool and
- 4:24Speaker 2: the food was. I mean we left there, we're like, oh,
- 4:26Speaker 2: what a decision we made. You know when we saw
- 4:28Speaker 2: a couple of people from our resort that had come
- 4:31Speaker 2: there and they're like, we've eaten here four nights in
- 4:33Speaker 2: a row, they're like, because it's like so good. So
- 4:37Speaker 2: that was the best meal for me. Bologna too, was
- 4:40Speaker 2: we stopped and bologna was was incredible. Those little those
- 4:45Speaker 2: little tells the tjell It's like these little like sandwiches
- 4:49Speaker 2: that look like they're English muffins and they stuff them
- 4:53Speaker 2: full of absolute goodness and deliciousness delicious. So it was fantastic. Yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 2: it was great trip. Yeah, so many, so many cool
- 5:04Speaker 2: to see. And you know, you know when you're on
- 5:06Speaker 2: those long trips and you're going constantly going all these
- 5:09Speaker 2: museums and stuff like that, after a while you're like,
- 5:11Speaker 2: god damn it. You're like it's like I've seen enough
- 5:14Speaker 2: paintings and this this person in you know, this city
- 5:18Speaker 2: got ravaged by some plague or something like this, because
- 5:21Speaker 2: there's so much history there. So you're just kind of
- 5:23Speaker 2: going through and like nodding your head like every other
- 5:26Speaker 2: stupid tourist. But uh, we were, we were just had
- 5:31Speaker 2: so much fun. And uh, my wife's the biggest part
- 5:35Speaker 2: of it is my wife's like the biggest gold horde,
- 5:38Speaker 2: Like she like loves gold, and her dad's like it's
- 5:43Speaker 2: crazy and like no, no, no, like Barry like listen
- 5:46Speaker 2: like like when I'm talking like gold like not like
- 5:49Speaker 2: expended tastes like gold like Barry under the back in
- 5:51Speaker 2: the backyard. Oh like yeah, like been buying gold, Yes,
- 5:55Speaker 2: I've been buying gold for like the last twenty years.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And go in Florence is like kind of where you
- 6:00Speaker 2: get the gold and it's like really good prices and
- 6:03Speaker 2: stuff like that. So where they are like walking around
- 6:05Speaker 2: a couple of eprechauns coming going through Italy and I'm like,
- 6:09Speaker 2: what are we doing here? My wife says, just come on,
- 6:12Speaker 2: come on, getting good prices here. We hit about seven
- 6:14Speaker 2: gold shops trying to look and by gold vest and yeah,
- 6:18Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, you don't know where it is. Nobody
- 6:21Speaker 2: knows where it is though, so good luck trying to
- 6:23Speaker 2: get it from us, but it's uh yeah, we're we're
- 6:26Speaker 2: ready for the apocalypse here.
- 6:27Speaker 1: That's unbelievable. Tal was giving a heads up when you
- 6:30Speaker 1: mentioned Bologna. Tell you've been to Bologna as well. You
- 6:32Speaker 1: can confirm could eats there as well.
- 6:34Speaker 5: The Red City, gorgeous, gorgeous. I loved that was the city.
- 6:39Speaker 5: That's good stuff.
- 6:41Speaker 6: That's what it's called. I think that's what it's. It's
- 6:43Speaker 6: all red.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Yeah, the food is great, some gorgeous antiquities. There's like
- 6:47Speaker 5: a vibe. It's not you know, like a lot of Italy.
- 6:50Speaker 5: There's a lot of tourists there, but it doesn't have
- 6:52Speaker 5: like venice or roam that like total tourist trap feel,
- 6:56Speaker 5: you know.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So we didn't want we didn't.
- 6:57Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, incredible.
- 7:00Speaker 5: We went from amazing. But there's more. There's more tourists
- 7:03Speaker 5: than locals. And I mean.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yes, I told, I told my wife and I was like,
- 7:08Speaker 2: I want to go to a place where I want
- 7:09Speaker 2: to go with the Italian's vacation or or or different
- 7:13Speaker 2: European because I was like, I don't. We went to
- 7:15Speaker 2: Tuscany for like three days, Tal and you know, my
- 7:19Speaker 2: wife turns me and goes. I fucking came to Italy
- 7:22Speaker 2: to be sitting next to a bunch of people from
- 7:23Speaker 2: New Jersey like all taste them, like, how's that red?
- 7:27Speaker 2: How do you like that red? It's a nice sandiavesa,
- 7:30Speaker 2: and you're just like, get me the fuck out of here.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I didn't come here to see other Americans. I came
- 7:35Speaker 2: here to kind of So that's like I've the older,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I've gotten more curmudginy I've gotten. I'm like, I don't
- 7:40Speaker 2: want to travel and and be like yucking it up
- 7:42Speaker 2: with people from like, you know, Texas, as much as
- 7:46Speaker 2: that's fun, I want to go and kind of be
- 7:49Speaker 2: in my own world and experience, Yeah, talk to some
- 7:51Speaker 2: locals and talk to some people in Italian and give
- 7:54Speaker 2: a little, give a little, Oh, Benitivo.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Now one more for you, because you're posted on social
- 8:02Speaker 1: media a little bit of water sports you were involved
- 8:03Speaker 1: in as well.
- 8:04Speaker 2: This was adventurous.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You weren't just going to museums to strike at paintings.
- 8:07Speaker 1: You were getting active out there.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Oh I gotta get a workout in on the road always.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Oh I missed two things. We went truffle hunting with
- 8:13Speaker 2: with Die. It was actually busy trip. I'll talk about
- 8:16Speaker 2: the truffle hunting after. But we were in on Lake
- 8:19Speaker 2: Orda because we you know, everybody's like go to Lake Comos.
- 8:22Speaker 2: When people say go somewhere, I'm like, okay, great, No
- 8:25Speaker 2: I'm not going to Yeah. So I went to Lake Orda,
- 8:28Speaker 2: which is you know, more and I always get in there.
- 8:33Speaker 2: It was more west towards Turin, and we like went
- 8:37Speaker 2: to the lake and really quiet isolated all Italians that
- 8:41Speaker 2: were vacationing there. So we were like, let's go on
- 8:44Speaker 2: the beach one day and let's just go swim a bit.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So we went in the water and and there's this
- 8:48Speaker 2: random Italian guy that's like, you like, wanted to try
- 8:52Speaker 2: this bike. I'm like what, and they're like, this is
- 8:55Speaker 2: like bike, and I think he was like what is it.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It's like it's not a Ponzi scheme, but it's like
- 8:59Speaker 2: those affiliate marketing where these guys go to some convention
- 9:03Speaker 2: and do a seminar about this bike and then they
- 9:06Speaker 2: sell it to make money. And but it's basically this
- 9:09Speaker 2: like hydro bike that once you're on top of the water,
- 9:12Speaker 2: you're just spinning in it. You're literally like zooming on
- 9:15Speaker 2: the water. But it was so tough to get up
- 9:18Speaker 2: for me. And so I'm in the middle of this
- 9:20Speaker 2: lake trying to get up because you have to like
- 9:23Speaker 2: push the bike all the way down, and then you
- 9:25Speaker 2: got to pedal your feet and as you're pedaling, you're
- 9:27Speaker 2: pedaling your feet. It's like it's like one of those
- 9:29Speaker 2: like little scooters. So you pedal your feet and then
- 9:31Speaker 2: you turn the engine on because you got to generate
- 9:34Speaker 2: a little heat. But then if you're not leaned forward enough,
- 9:37Speaker 2: you know, the front just comes out and you're you're dead.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You're hoofed. And it happened like ten times. I'm in
- 9:43Speaker 2: the middle of the water, like treading water with this
- 9:45Speaker 2: Italian guy and a speedo that's looking at me and
- 9:48Speaker 2: going it's easy, it's easy. And I'm like, you saw
- 9:52Speaker 2: my go fund yourself right now. I'm I'm I'm trying
- 9:55Speaker 2: to get up here. I'm like, I got ten pounds
- 9:58Speaker 2: of pasta in my belly and I'm trying to like
- 9:59Speaker 2: bike this thing. But so cool once you get up.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And then they yelled at me too, because when I
- 10:04Speaker 2: felt off, They're like, you can't jump off like that
- 10:06Speaker 2: and like throw the bike. But I'm like I don't
- 10:07Speaker 2: want to. I'm not trying to hurt myself. But uh yeah,
- 10:11Speaker 2: I did it for like twenty minutes. Literally just did
- 10:14Speaker 2: it for Instagram and that the hydro doing it for
- 10:18Speaker 2: the gram. Yeah, but the one we did for Instagram
- 10:20Speaker 2: was truffle hunting. Truffle hunting with these dogs. Incredible stuff.
- 10:25Speaker 2: These dogs they go around we went it was black
- 10:27Speaker 2: truffle summer tuffle hunting, which is black truffles in the
- 10:30Speaker 2: winter is white truffles, which is like the way more
- 10:32Speaker 2: expensive and more rare. And they were saying like it
- 10:36Speaker 2: was crazy, these dogs zipping around and like their noses
- 10:40Speaker 2: are incredible, and like the black summer truffle grows really
- 10:43Speaker 2: shallow in the dirt. So we got like pounds of it.
- 10:47Speaker 2: And then the guy kept talking. We had this Italian
- 10:49Speaker 2: guy that was showing us who trains the dogs, who
- 10:51Speaker 2: didn't speak a lick of English. We had a translator.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Was how was the English to it?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Talient? Because you were I can have stopped. Yeah, I can.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I can understand. I can't speak great, but I can
- 11:00Speaker 2: understand cause of the French, like I can piece my
- 11:02Speaker 2: way through, I can read and stuff like that. At second,
- 11:05Speaker 2: throw a couple of things together, you know. But yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 2: so we're we're going around and you know, they're digging
- 11:16Speaker 2: up the truffles and and I'm a huge fan of truffles,
- 11:18Speaker 2: and so it was just amazing because this restaurant, you
- 11:21Speaker 2: you go with the dogs and you find the truffles,
- 11:24Speaker 2: and then they make you dinner with the truffles that
- 11:26Speaker 2: you caught. So they just pasta and and all sorts
- 11:28Speaker 2: of stuff. Is really good. Uh. But he was literally
- 11:31Speaker 2: telling us these dogs are like, like the dog that
- 11:35Speaker 2: was with us was like worth fifteen thousand dollars because
- 11:39Speaker 2: they're like that good. And he's at truffle hunting, like
- 11:43Speaker 2: they're crazy at finding truffles, and people other farms try
- 11:47Speaker 2: to poison them.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Oh geez.
- 11:48Speaker 2: He said his dog that he caught two people trying
- 11:51Speaker 2: to poison They fill like sausages because the dogs love
- 11:54Speaker 2: sausages too. They got fine taste sau sausage truffles. Yeah,
- 11:59Speaker 2: I sausage party. But they fill it with like poison
- 12:02Speaker 2: and then they like throw it on the ground onside.
- 12:04Speaker 2: The are crazy world, man, The truffle world, cash business,
- 12:09Speaker 2: cash money, cash is clay, all of it together. That
- 12:12Speaker 2: was my That was my trip in a nutshell.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Incredible travelog the honeymoon coming uh and it certainly was
- 12:18Speaker 1: well worth a truffle hunting.
- 12:20Speaker 2: A lot of sex.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Dude, you're in that, you're there in the honeymoons.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You hopefully get little bit of that as well, but
- 12:25Speaker 1: also hopefully you're checking out some of the scenery as well.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I mean, you're want to be a little lot Italian
- 12:30Speaker 3: walking around.
- 12:31Speaker 2: That's why we drove. She couldn't walk but up. And
- 12:37Speaker 2: then we segue to hockey.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Even though there's nothing happening in the NHL in July and August,
- 12:41Speaker 1: still plenty of trade rumors. How about this, Mason McTavish
- 12:44Speaker 1: of the Ducks, Marco Rosh of the wild rumors about
- 12:46Speaker 1: both these guys. Now you had predicted, you said, I
- 12:48Speaker 1: know Zegres can get traded, and you were right, went
- 12:50Speaker 1: to the Philippia Flyers.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I was right and nailed.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Now too, young, talented forest be a welcome addition to
- 12:57Speaker 1: any any roster. I want you to put on that
- 12:59Speaker 1: no stra demurs cap again, McTavish, ROSSI either of these
- 13:04Speaker 1: guy's gonna get dealt.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I can't McTavish, I can't see it, just because I
- 13:10Speaker 2: love him as a center. I think if they ultimately,
- 13:12Speaker 2: if they can't settle on a number, or or you know,
- 13:15Speaker 2: if he doesn't like but they're just trending in the
- 13:17Speaker 2: right direction with Quinnville. I can't see mctaviash wanting to leave,
- 13:20Speaker 2: even though you know Zegrest is his good buddy. I
- 13:23Speaker 2: just don't see it. I mean, he'd be highly sought after.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I'm sure they're they're kicking the tires listening at what
- 13:28Speaker 2: they could possibly get, because if they could get somebody,
- 13:31Speaker 2: you know, really interesting in return, that could kind of
- 13:36Speaker 2: get him to that next level, because I mean, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and then this team's Anaheim's like kind of there might
- 13:41Speaker 2: pick to make the playoffs my dark horse. Yeah, I
- 13:43Speaker 2: think Quinville like they're making a push here. So it's like,
- 13:45Speaker 2: I don't know why you'd get rid of a mctabash
- 13:47Speaker 2: ROSSI I think he's going to get dealt. I think
- 13:50Speaker 2: he hasn't been happy there. I think he's and his
- 13:54Speaker 2: eyes has been underutilized, and I think he's still got
- 13:58Speaker 2: some value. So I think he's a guy that could
- 14:01Speaker 2: produce on another team and have a bigger role, And
- 14:04Speaker 2: I think that's what he wants, so definitely, if they're
- 14:06Speaker 2: gonna keep Caprice off and they got to sign Capriso,
- 14:09Speaker 2: I think he's kind of been pushing forward and I
- 14:11Speaker 2: think they're trying to look for a place for him.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So I see him getting moved. I just don't know
- 14:15Speaker 2: where goods skilled forward, So could really be anywhere that
- 14:21Speaker 2: a team that needs somebody could see like them. I
- 14:23Speaker 2: wouldn't say Vegas, but you could see like a Rangers.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I think maybe somewhere out east. I don't think they
- 14:29Speaker 2: keep him in the West, you can see Rangers. Maybe
- 14:32Speaker 2: I'm not an Anaheim, but you know, maybe in LA
- 14:35Speaker 2: There's just there's some places that he could fit. So
- 14:39Speaker 2: I think him for sure. I don't think mctabb I
- 14:41Speaker 2: can't see mctabbah should be nuts though. If if maybe
- 14:44Speaker 2: there's just it's just irreconcilable differences, you know what I mean?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and speaking traits that aren't gonna happen, but just
- 14:50Speaker 1: interesting chatter. Sidney Crosby turns thirty eighth this week. He's
- 14:54Speaker 1: gonna captain of Pittsburgh team that appears be in full
- 14:56Speaker 1: tank mode. He's got two years left in his current
- 14:58Speaker 1: deal with the Penguins. Now I can't imagine the situation
- 15:00Speaker 1: JD in which you would leave the Pittsburgh Penguin just
- 15:03Speaker 1: feels like a life for no matter what. At the
- 15:04Speaker 1: same time, I suppose if there was an opportunity in
- 15:07Speaker 1: which he wanted to chase another cup. It doesn't feel
- 15:10Speaker 1: like to me happening in time suit in Pittsburgh. Again,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I don't see it happening. I don't think it's moved
- 15:13Speaker 1: the next couple of years, But what do you think
- 15:15Speaker 1: happens there in Pittsburgh.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I've talked to Thrupper a lot on this, and I
- 15:22Speaker 2: guess it's more the temperament of what he wants to do.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Is he just happy to finish off in pitt and
- 15:28Speaker 2: I love the only Yeah. I mean, I think maybe
- 15:32Speaker 2: initially he's like, I'm staying and then now you're gonna
- 15:35Speaker 2: see how bad this shit can get. Yes, But I
- 15:37Speaker 2: just know Dubis is trying to put his little fingerprints
- 15:40Speaker 2: all over this, and I think he's trying to get
- 15:43Speaker 2: rid of the old guard. So I think if he
- 15:46Speaker 2: gets rid of the Malkins, the Latin the Malkins, the Latanks,
- 15:50Speaker 2: I think Sid might be more inclined to say, like, Hey,
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm out of here. But what a sad way to
- 15:55Speaker 2: end the era for them, just kind of limping through.
- 15:58Speaker 2: You know, you look at Ovi and it's like, at
- 15:59Speaker 2: least Ov there, they're staying competitive. You know, they're staying
- 16:03Speaker 2: competitive for him. I'm like, pit, how do you not
- 16:05Speaker 2: you have those three guys, How do you not say competitive?
- 16:07Speaker 2: How do you not figure something out? So Dubus is
- 16:10Speaker 2: gonna try have to I think, maybe make one more
- 16:12Speaker 2: push for it. But I'm the only place I'd like
- 16:16Speaker 2: to see sid go is is Colorado. That's really it.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I just I don't know what you guys think, but
- 16:22Speaker 2: I just feel like playing with Nate would be the
- 16:25Speaker 2: best case Ontario for me.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I think with two seasons left in the deal.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I'm kind to your points thinking, I don't think it's true.
- 16:31Speaker 1: This year like as miserable as would be, but I
- 16:33Speaker 1: think next year, if it's like the final year, maybe
- 16:35Speaker 1: next summer he could say, all right, I got one
- 16:36Speaker 1: year left, one last kick of the can. It's not
- 16:38Speaker 1: happening in Pittsburgh, where some situations I would find enviable.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Tal has some upcoming predictions and takes for the season.
- 16:44Speaker 3: What do you got for his tal?
- 16:45Speaker 5: Well, I was just gonna add also a lot of
- 16:47Speaker 5: I mean it's mostly from Canadians fans, but a lot
- 16:50Speaker 5: of Sid to Montreal night chatter about will will the
- 16:54Speaker 5: Canadians be rounding in de forum just as Sid's ready
- 16:59Speaker 5: to finally sign off on a trade. I don't see
- 17:01Speaker 5: it happening, but that's you know, we need to talk
- 17:04Speaker 5: about something.
- 17:05Speaker 6: It's barely August, right, so yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 2: It would Sid go to a play like a big market,
- 17:11Speaker 2: or would Sid want to go to like a Anaheim
- 17:13Speaker 2: or like a Colorado where it's like less media because
- 17:18Speaker 2: you imagine Sidney Crosby in Montreal.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Oh my god, out of control to be they would
- 17:22Speaker 3: be throwing.
- 17:23Speaker 6: Panty out of control.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Oh those little Maria Canadians super fans would be going bananas.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Well, you mentioned also predictions add and of course you know,
- 17:36Speaker 5: and my duties as producer. I asked you both to
- 17:39Speaker 5: come up with some stuff for this dog day of
- 17:41Speaker 5: Summer edition of NHL Unscripted, and you both responded, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 5: justifiably do it.
- 17:47Speaker 6: It's barely August. What are we what are we doing here?
- 17:49Speaker 2: All right?
- 17:49Speaker 3: Stanley Cupper Boss, Carolina Hurriys, that's what you want right here?
- 17:52Speaker 2: You go. Well, I said, I mean I kind of
- 17:56Speaker 2: want let's go. Yeah, JD, what you got dark horse
- 18:00Speaker 2: playoff team Ducks. Ducks are going to make the playoffs
- 18:03Speaker 2: this year. Rangers are gonna miss again.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Vegas also, Stanley cupper Bus, you signed that they're pushing hard.
- 18:12Speaker 2: There's yeah, Vegas, Vegas, Vegas will be in. I think
- 18:18Speaker 2: this is I like Carolina, but again, I think they're
- 18:21Speaker 2: gonna make the playoffs and well they have enough who knows.
- 18:24Speaker 2: But I mean the biggest one is will Florida repeat again?
- 18:29Speaker 2: That's probably the one that everybody's that's the lowest hanging fruit.
- 18:32Speaker 2: But when you think about it, it's so tough to
- 18:34Speaker 2: win twice. Can they do it a third time? Now?
- 18:37Speaker 2: Targets on their back picked Tim and they've been ship
- 18:40Speaker 2: talking everybody right now all summer long. And I mean, hey, listen,
- 18:45Speaker 2: so what do you guys think of What do you
- 18:48Speaker 2: guys think of Matthew Chuck on the cover of What
- 18:52Speaker 2: do you guys think of that? Let's hear that.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I love it.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I think this is a guy who really represents the
- 18:56Speaker 1: best of the sport. He's a phenomenal player. He had
- 18:58Speaker 1: a coming out party, certainly with the Four Nations. It
- 19:01Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense to me.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Tell yeah, I think we've reached full face of the
- 19:06Speaker 5: league status for Matthew could Chuck.
- 19:08Speaker 6: I mean, not the only face, but one.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Of the faces of the league in terms of, you know, statistically,
- 19:14Speaker 5: he's not putting up McDavid numbers, but in terms of
- 19:17Speaker 5: the personality the lineage, I mean, how many interviews did
- 19:20Speaker 5: he do immediately after Four Nations and they didn't even
- 19:23Speaker 5: win that tournament?
- 19:24Speaker 6: Not you know candidate, I'm just going to throw.
- 19:27Speaker 5: That out there, But anyway, but he's everywhere. He's someone
- 19:30Speaker 5: in the league is clearly putting out there to be
- 19:33Speaker 5: one of the guys. And it's it's because he does
- 19:35Speaker 5: so many different things. He kind of, I think represents
- 19:39Speaker 5: what a hockey player is for a lot of people
- 19:41Speaker 5: in terms of all the different elements he brings to
- 19:43Speaker 5: the game. And let's be real, he turned that franchise
- 19:45Speaker 5: around that thing that they became a Stanley Cup dynasty
- 19:48Speaker 5: when they acquired Matthew could Chuck.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I love it.
- 19:52Speaker 5: I mean, there's gonna be a lot of Panthers talk
- 19:54Speaker 5: all season long about if they're going to go three
- 19:57Speaker 5: in a row, and right now, I can't. I can't
- 19:59Speaker 5: go against him, even though it's August.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Even though it's August, you're early not you know, so
- 20:04Speaker 2: much can happen here. But talas adamant, well, hey, get
- 20:08Speaker 2: your futures bets in, folks, even though we don't.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Exactly imagine if we had odds brought to you by
- 20:12Speaker 3: bet MGM like that.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Oh, we don't have anyone in there, so that's fine.
- 20:16Speaker 2: We just have to kind of rind away.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Still to come here in NHL and scripted, we got
- 20:20Speaker 1: our hockey talking, we got fearless predictions in for Bob Bender,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and we got JD's Tripp and more importantly, Tjos. She's
- 20:25Speaker 1: coming up right around the bend. Just went through an
- 20:27Speaker 1: impressive move. He's formally retired. We'll catch up with tj
- 20:31Speaker 1: some of the highlights of his career. It is coming
- 20:33Speaker 1: up next right after this here in NHL unscripted, our
- 20:48Speaker 1: next guest, a first round pick twenty fourth overall the
- 20:50Speaker 1: two thousand and five NHL dropped by the Saint Louis
- 20:52Speaker 1: Blues after collecting three hundred and two goals and six
- 20:55Speaker 1: hundred and ninety five points and over one thousand career
- 20:58Speaker 1: NHL games the Blues and the Capitals.
- 21:00Speaker 3: He called it her career when he fished. He retired
- 21:02Speaker 3: in June.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Champion, US Olympic legend tj ohh TJ.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Good to see it man, how you been.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Good to see you? Thanks for having me. I appreciate it.
- 21:10Speaker 1: So for all the incredible things you did in the NHL,
- 21:12Speaker 1: may have just computed the most impressive feet of your career.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You recently moved a family of six from Virginia back
- 21:17Speaker 1: to Minnesota. You've got four kids, you and your wife.
- 21:20Speaker 1: How co listen, there's nothing worse to me than the
- 21:21Speaker 1: move Outgrace was it making that move from different states?
- 21:25Speaker 4: The move was tough.
- 21:28Speaker 7: Had we had a good moving company that helped us
- 21:30Speaker 7: out and kind of took care of some of the
- 21:32Speaker 7: stuff for us. But uh yeah, I mean there's just
- 21:35Speaker 7: so many things that go into it that you don't
- 21:37Speaker 7: think of, Like the kids need new doctors, the new Dennis. Yes,
- 21:42Speaker 7: then you need to sign up for new travel sports.
- 21:44Speaker 7: Then you got to sign up for new camps. It's
- 21:45Speaker 7: just like all the things that seemed like kinda even
- 21:49Speaker 7: though that they're a little hard being a parent, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 7: keeping juggling all these things, to take all those things
- 21:53Speaker 7: and then transfer them to a state where really, I mean,
- 21:56Speaker 7: we know family here. I know guys that I played against,
- 21:59Speaker 7: Zach Breezey, Drew Stafford, doub Nick.
- 22:02Speaker 4: We all played golf together the other day.
- 22:04Speaker 7: It's like I know those guys, but I didn't like
- 22:06Speaker 7: grow up with them, to go to high school with them,
- 22:09Speaker 7: and so uh yeah, you just don't have like your
- 22:13Speaker 7: normal stuff. So we're kind of starting over a little bit.
- 22:16Speaker 7: We got some family, which is nice, but kind of
- 22:19Speaker 7: a fresh start.
- 22:20Speaker 2: It's like being back in high school finding your community again.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Like you gotta you're like first day at school, You're
- 22:25Speaker 2: just like, come on, boys, egg golf with the fellow
- 22:27Speaker 2: stuff like that. So I'm sure it's awkward a little bit. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 2: it is a little bit.
- 22:31Speaker 4: And I'm not like an extremely social person.
- 22:34Speaker 7: I'm not you know, I'm not going out to dinner
- 22:37Speaker 7: like once a week, like you know, hanging out with everyone.
- 22:40Speaker 7: I'm kind of homebody a little bit, like to just
- 22:42Speaker 7: make make food at home, hang out, enjoy some some
- 22:45Speaker 7: peace and quiet.
- 22:46Speaker 4: So being that social.
- 22:47Speaker 7: Guy is like a little more difficult at the you know,
- 22:50Speaker 7: going to the golf course and like like introducing yourself
- 22:54Speaker 7: to a lot of people like, hey, you want to
- 22:56Speaker 7: be my friend.
- 22:59Speaker 2: My friend, I'm new in town. Yeah you know, I
- 23:02Speaker 2: know you had a moving company and uh, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 2: but kind of when you get settled. You know, I
- 23:07Speaker 2: did a big move and I retired too. So you know,
- 23:10Speaker 2: the day I retired, I moved out of my house
- 23:13Speaker 2: from Phoenix to you know, a different house, and you're
- 23:16Speaker 2: packing up and seeing all your old, old stuff. Is
- 23:18Speaker 2: there anything you saw that like brought back some memories
- 23:20Speaker 2: that you were like, oh my god, I didn't even
- 23:22Speaker 2: know that was still kicking around the house, like some
- 23:24Speaker 2: memorabilia or something, you know, growing up.
- 23:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I haven't dug too deep into the memorabilia stuff. Actually,
- 23:33Speaker 7: last summer, which technically was right after I played my
- 23:37Speaker 7: last game, I went through my teammates high school teamates
- 23:41Speaker 7: up in war Owed.
- 23:44Speaker 4: There's this big debacle.
- 23:45Speaker 7: My dad obviously at Alzheimer's forgot a lot of things.
- 23:49Speaker 4: He forgot.
- 23:49Speaker 7: They had a storage unit up in northern Minnesota and
- 23:52Speaker 7: just stopped paying for it, and you know storage wars.
- 23:56Speaker 7: Someone got it. They tried to They tried to like
- 24:01Speaker 7: like ask me to buy it back for like numbers
- 24:04Speaker 7: like sixteen grand or something. I was like, dude, it's
- 24:08Speaker 7: just my childhood things, like it's yeah, there's no there's
- 24:12Speaker 7: nothing like it's all high school before so not World Juniors,
- 24:15Speaker 7: like none of that stuff, right, and and.
- 24:19Speaker 4: He like won't give it back, won't give it back.
- 24:20Speaker 7: And finally I was like, all right, just keep it,
- 24:22Speaker 7: like piece it off and sell it if you want.
- 24:24Speaker 7: Apparently he couldn't sell it because it was like literally
- 24:26Speaker 7: my kid, like your medals playing like Burnaby eight rings,
- 24:30Speaker 7: like the Super series, like that's all what it was like,
- 24:33Speaker 7: stuff like that, my team pictures.
- 24:37Speaker 4: And anyway.
- 24:38Speaker 7: So I went up for our team golf or the
- 24:40Speaker 7: City World Golf tournament last year, and they brought me
- 24:44Speaker 7: down to my buddies basement and surprised me. Some World
- 24:47Speaker 7: guy was driving through a guy told him about it,
- 24:50Speaker 7: and he was like, I'm leaving with that stuff, and
- 24:53Speaker 7: he like paid the guy. I can't remember what the
- 24:55Speaker 7: amount was, not sixteen, but I think he paid like
- 24:58Speaker 7: over one thousand dollars. He's like, it's all I have here,
- 25:00Speaker 7: I'm leaving with TJ stuff. Nice and he packed it
- 25:03Speaker 7: all up and I walked down theirs and like they
- 25:05Speaker 7: had it like out like a museum. It was like, yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 7: and I'm like my letterman's jacket was in there, and
- 25:15Speaker 7: then like a bunch of my dad's childhood stuff, like
- 25:19Speaker 7: his community college basketball things, and so that was kind
- 25:23Speaker 7: of the big thing for me, is like I got
- 25:25Speaker 7: all that stuff, and last summer I went through it
- 25:28Speaker 7: all and you know, threw away some stuff that's no meaning,
- 25:32Speaker 7: but cool to see all that stuff and a good,
- 25:35Speaker 7: good surprise for my my high school buddies.
- 25:38Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Your shoot up performance against Russia. Of course, twenty fourteen
- 25:42Speaker 1: Olympics remains an indelible moment the history of USA hockey.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I once asked Joe Carter, who hit the famous homer
- 25:48Speaker 1: for the Blue Jays in ninety three. I said, you
- 25:50Speaker 1: know how often people mention that home run too? And
- 25:51Speaker 1: he said, well, if I'm out of the house pretty
- 25:54Speaker 1: much every day, I said, come on, every day I
- 25:56Speaker 1: go to the grocery. Someone said, hey, Joe Carter, I
- 25:57Speaker 1: remember the home if I'm with the golf course every day.
- 25:59Speaker 1: So the question to you is how often do people
- 26:02Speaker 1: mentioned that goal to.
- 26:04Speaker 7: It actually depends on where I'm at. So if I'm
- 26:08Speaker 7: in d C, it's all cap stuff. You know, Saint Louis.
- 26:13Speaker 7: I don't get back there very much, but that's mostly
- 26:15Speaker 7: about Saint Louis stuff. Minnesota, not much any other place Betwirese.
- 26:20Speaker 7: Besides those three places, it's all shootout, you know.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Because I'm in Minnesota. They talk about high.
- 26:27Speaker 7: School, they talk about playing North Dakota DC, they talk
- 26:31Speaker 7: about the Cup, talk about well, you talk about Ob
- 26:33Speaker 7: mostly and then and then you know, in Saint Louis
- 26:36Speaker 7: they talk about just like the old days and whatever,
- 26:39Speaker 7: you know, my my younger years. So but yeah, anywhere
- 26:44Speaker 7: outside of those places, like I'm walking around like in
- 26:46Speaker 7: New York stay and a hockey fan notices me for
- 26:50Speaker 7: some reason, it's going to be about the shootout on
- 26:52Speaker 7: hundred percent.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Oh my. And what's usually the question that you're getting
- 26:56Speaker 2: when you're somebody's grabbing you for that? Is it like
- 26:59Speaker 2: how'd you beat Bob? Or is it just like what's
- 27:02Speaker 2: usually the general question that comes up when somebody grabs
- 27:05Speaker 2: you for that?
- 27:06Speaker 7: Yeah, what's what's great is it's usually man, I've never
- 27:10Speaker 7: been to a bar at six am, and they're like
- 27:14Speaker 7: that was the best like time at a bar, And
- 27:18Speaker 7: I was like, so that that's usually what they say,
- 27:21Speaker 7: they're like, yeah, I have my kid with me, Like
- 27:23Speaker 7: we were buzzing, like can your name at six am?
- 27:27Speaker 7: And I'm like, that's actually pretty cool. That maybe a
- 27:30Speaker 7: reason why it stands out so much.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Is it a moment that like you can replay in
- 27:34Speaker 1: your head all the time, or is it one of
- 27:36Speaker 1: those that when you see it all the time that
- 27:37Speaker 1: it kind of you know, brings it's not that long ago,
- 27:39Speaker 1: but it brings back every single detail of that performance.
- 27:42Speaker 7: Uh, I can, Yeah, I can pretty much remember everything
- 27:46Speaker 7: that happened. I'm usually not like that with games and sports.
- 27:51Speaker 7: There's only like a few moments where like off the
- 27:53Speaker 7: top of my head I can remember unless I like
- 27:55Speaker 7: watch it and then you know the feelings sprint come
- 27:58Speaker 7: back or the emotions or whatever it is. But that
- 28:01Speaker 7: one I can, just because it blew up so big
- 28:04Speaker 7: At the time. I wasn't thinking much about it. You know,
- 28:09Speaker 7: You're just playing and finish and you know you look
- 28:12Speaker 7: at look at the coach, see if he wants you
- 28:14Speaker 7: to go again and give.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Me the tap fell I'm feeling it again.
- 28:20Speaker 7: And so but yeah, it was you know, obviously a
- 28:23Speaker 7: special moment in my in my career, and so I
- 28:27Speaker 7: saw get all the feels, and I actually didn't watch
- 28:29Speaker 7: the whole thing back again until maybe a year ago.
- 28:34Speaker 7: I'd say, wow, you know, I had just seen the
- 28:37Speaker 7: clips of the goals. So me and my daughter, my
- 28:41Speaker 7: nine year old, she's a little athlete in the family,
- 28:45Speaker 7: and she wanted to watch the game, and so that's
- 28:47Speaker 7: that's the first time I'd ever watched the game was
- 28:50Speaker 7: a couple of months ago.
- 28:51Speaker 2: That's awesome. How weird does that watch the game? It's
- 28:53Speaker 2: it's going back and watching some like early games in
- 28:57Speaker 2: your career is always so weird because you're just like god,
- 29:00Speaker 2: I was. I was every time I watched. I'm like God,
- 29:02Speaker 2: I could not skate to save my life, but I
- 29:05Speaker 2: was just flowing out there.
- 29:08Speaker 7: I definitely looked terrible in the game, I thought, for sure.
- 29:11Speaker 7: You know what I noticed is some of the older
- 29:12Speaker 7: guys that, like you know, are probably almost all now
- 29:16Speaker 7: retired from the twenty fourteen Olympics.
- 29:19Speaker 4: You look at those.
- 29:20Speaker 7: Guys and I remember them based on like the last
- 29:23Speaker 7: year or two of their career, and you see them
- 29:25Speaker 7: out You're like, oh my god, like I was, I
- 29:27Speaker 7: saw obviously, I'm good buddies with Orpik.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I'm like, holy, Orpie's flying out.
- 29:32Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, because like at the end, you know,
- 29:35Speaker 7: you have knee problems, back problem, like you know you're
- 29:39Speaker 7: you're an NHL player, but you're kind of you're you're
- 29:42Speaker 7: getting through some things to get out there and stay
- 29:44Speaker 7: on the ice, you knowwh Yeah, And I.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Just remember some guys in the game.
- 29:47Speaker 7: I was like, God, they are those guys are good,
- 29:50Speaker 7: Like they were really good.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Brooks door picked really good. Yeah you were good.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean Jack, But.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I wanted to I wanted to talk about No dak
- 30:03Speaker 2: for a sec just because you know, you play with
- 30:06Speaker 2: Jonathan Taves and you know, seeing him make his comeback,
- 30:11Speaker 2: you know, does that make you feel any kind of
- 30:12Speaker 2: way because you guys were together at such a young
- 30:14Speaker 2: age and had some good teams too. I was going
- 30:17Speaker 2: back and looking and how was that experience with him?
- 30:20Speaker 2: And was he always that serious?
- 30:24Speaker 7: He would he would lighten up sometimes, But I mean
- 30:28Speaker 7: as when we came in, I want to say he
- 30:32Speaker 7: either started school early as a young kid, or he
- 30:34Speaker 7: did high school in like three years or something, because
- 30:37Speaker 7: he was only seventeen as a freshman in North Dakota.
- 30:40Speaker 7: And so but even then, like he was definitely more
- 30:43Speaker 7: mature than I was, you know, turning nineteen that in
- 30:47Speaker 7: a couple months into my freshman year, he just had
- 30:50Speaker 7: like this drive about him and this like he was
- 30:52Speaker 7: like ultra ultra I don't want to say serious, but
- 30:56Speaker 7: he was like determined to like play in the NHL,
- 31:00Speaker 7: to be like the best player in the NHL, you know.
- 31:03Speaker 7: Where it was compared to someone like me, who was like,
- 31:06Speaker 7: I'm just there to have fun. If I make it
- 31:09Speaker 7: to NHL, you know great. I didn't watch my draft,
- 31:13Speaker 7: you know, like it was just two different So compared
- 31:16Speaker 7: to me, yeah, he was incredibly serious. But in those moments,
- 31:20Speaker 7: like in the locker room, he'd like we'd joke around,
- 31:23Speaker 7: We'd sitting there in our gear for hours, you know,
- 31:25Speaker 7: we'd show up in between classes and skate together. I
- 31:29Speaker 7: think he was really good for me, and I was
- 31:30Speaker 7: really good for him back then, because, like I said,
- 31:33Speaker 7: I was one hundred percent like fun, like that's all I.
- 31:37Speaker 4: Wanted to do.
- 31:38Speaker 7: And so we would kind of clash, go head to head,
- 31:42Speaker 7: right Like point spies were always like pretty close on
- 31:47Speaker 7: the team, but like and even playing time a little bit,
- 31:50Speaker 7: but we were like super competitive against each other. And
- 31:55Speaker 7: you know, it was like Canadian American, you know, like
- 31:58Speaker 7: I don't know, like fun guy, like serious guy. But
- 32:02Speaker 7: we I mean, we absolutely loved each other, but we
- 32:04Speaker 7: were so we pushed each other so hard to the
- 32:07Speaker 7: point where like you know, sometimes we get not fight,
- 32:09Speaker 7: but like we get pissed at each other on the ice,
- 32:12Speaker 7: you know what I mean. And uh, but I'm I'm
- 32:15Speaker 7: so excited for him. He talked to me, gosh, you
- 32:18Speaker 7: must have called me in the spring, maybe late spring
- 32:24Speaker 7: about making a comeback and about training and stuff.
- 32:26Speaker 4: We use a.
- 32:29Speaker 7: My trainer is something that he had used at some
- 32:31Speaker 7: point but throughout his career, and he's thinking about getting
- 32:34Speaker 7: back into it. So he's training where I trained in
- 32:38Speaker 7: the in the Twin Cities, And yeah, we talked about it,
- 32:42Speaker 7: and I'm super super excited for him.
- 32:44Speaker 4: He sounded awesome on the phone.
- 32:46Speaker 7: And uh, John's got like the just the hockey smarts
- 32:49Speaker 7: that if his body gets into shape, like those those
- 32:53Speaker 7: those smarts just don't go away, right, All those guys
- 32:55Speaker 7: that play forever, they're so smart, they're so intelligent. Yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 7: they're so intelligent on the ice. So I hope he's
- 33:03Speaker 7: in a good spot. That was he gets in a
- 33:04Speaker 7: good spot. I think he can you know, he can
- 33:06Speaker 7: definitely help TJ.
- 33:08Speaker 1: He came to the league with Keith the Chuck as
- 33:10Speaker 1: a teammate in Saint Louis. What's it been like seeing
- 33:12Speaker 1: Matthew and Brady and matthewa checkson on the cover of
- 33:14Speaker 1: a NHL twenty six obviously Standley Cup champion.
- 33:17Speaker 3: How wild has that been?
- 33:19Speaker 7: It's insane, honestly, it is. It's it's like crazy that,
- 33:24Speaker 7: you know, you get to that point because I remember
- 33:26Speaker 7: in the locker room they would be, you know, you'd
- 33:29Speaker 7: still be getting undressed and they'd be like playing like
- 33:32Speaker 7: like shinny like knee hockey in the locker room, and
- 33:35Speaker 7: we had a we had a big locker room with
- 33:40Speaker 7: we had a big locker room with like a rink
- 33:41Speaker 7: on the in the middle of it so that coaches
- 33:45Speaker 7: could like talk about it or whatever, but and use
- 33:48Speaker 7: like the carpet for like the whiteboard.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Yeah, and uh.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Yeah, school, I know it is. You don't see that
- 33:56Speaker 2: any anywhere. You just have the coach just pointing on
- 34:00Speaker 2: the ice. That's why. Yeah.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Yeah. So to go from there.
- 34:05Speaker 7: And now to him being on the cover to stand
- 34:08Speaker 7: the Cups it's it's pretty pretty surreal.
- 34:13Speaker 2: I mean, how was Keith for you as a as
- 34:16Speaker 2: a veteran guy when you came in and how was he?
- 34:19Speaker 2: You know, obviously he's got his two kids there and
- 34:22Speaker 2: they're so young, but but how did he mentor and
- 34:25Speaker 2: what was his style? You know, because at that point
- 34:27Speaker 2: he was about a year I think it was his
- 34:29Speaker 2: second last year when you first started playing with him.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Yeah, he was, Uh, he was a little difficult.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I love hearing that.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Yeah he was. He was hard. He was hard.
- 34:43Speaker 7: Yeah, he uh, yeah, he he expected you know, I
- 34:51Speaker 7: don't know, he was just he was just hard on me,
- 34:53Speaker 7: Patrick Bergland, David Perun specifically us three, and uh.
- 35:01Speaker 4: It was good for me, honestly.
- 35:03Speaker 7: You know, I think he kind of saw, you know,
- 35:06Speaker 7: maybe the mistakes that he had maybe made at some
- 35:08Speaker 7: point in his career and saw you know, us and
- 35:10Speaker 7: knuckleheads running around, and so it was he was.
- 35:14Speaker 4: He was hard on us.
- 35:15Speaker 7: But you know, every once in a while he'd like
- 35:17Speaker 7: grab you and like pull you under his arm and
- 35:19Speaker 7: like kiss the top of your head or something, you know,
- 35:21Speaker 7: and you're like, oh, he loves me.
- 35:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 35:23Speaker 7: It's like that dad that like never like says good
- 35:25Speaker 7: to job, and then like that one like every once
- 35:28Speaker 7: in a while he like grabbed me. You're like he
- 35:30Speaker 7: likes me, but no, it was it was scary like
- 35:32Speaker 7: if he was in a bad mood and he walked
- 35:34Speaker 7: in the training room, like as like we would like
- 35:36Speaker 7: walk out.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Oh wow, that for sure because like this guy.
- 35:41Speaker 7: Yeah, but I mean and it was hard too because
- 35:44Speaker 7: like you loved him at the same time. But yeah, no,
- 35:48Speaker 7: he was.
- 35:49Speaker 4: He was great. I remember the first time.
- 35:50Speaker 7: I first time, like I might have been practice, were
- 35:53Speaker 7: like his big skate and like I come in the
- 35:55Speaker 7: training room and Walt has his own blue robe with
- 36:00Speaker 7: a blue symbol on it and just says Walt, and
- 36:03Speaker 7: no one else on the team had a row. It
- 36:04Speaker 7: was only it was just him and he's walking around you,
- 36:08Speaker 7: and I was like, wow, this must be this is different.
- 36:12Speaker 4: This is a little different. But it was. It was awesome.
- 36:16Speaker 4: He was so good for me. But you know, at
- 36:18Speaker 4: the time, you're like, god, this guy is kind of meat.
- 36:21Speaker 2: But see that's that's like what's great to hear from guys,
- 36:24Speaker 2: because I feel like fans don't get that enough, like listen,
- 36:27Speaker 2: like I had Joe Thornton obviously Joe Thornton and Kitchuck
- 36:30Speaker 2: are so different. But he was so incredibly hard on me,
- 36:32Speaker 2: to the point where like if I told people's stories,
- 36:35Speaker 2: they'd be like, that's not true, and I'm like telling you,
- 36:37Speaker 2: like they're such competitors, Like it's like people need to
- 36:40Speaker 2: know that. It's just like it's it helped me, but
- 36:44Speaker 2: at times you're like going home, I'm driving home like
- 36:46Speaker 2: this guy, this guy hates me, and I'm like, it's
- 36:49Speaker 2: just one of those things. It's like you gotta you
- 36:51Speaker 2: gotta go through those moments as a as a young kid,
- 36:54Speaker 2: and you know it's not all you know, roses and
- 36:57Speaker 2: all that stuff. So that's cool to hear that Keith
- 36:59Speaker 2: was not just all smiles but could be a dick sometimes.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, well, certainly Keith Chuk could be a tough customer.
- 37:07Speaker 1: As far as Alexandro Vetchkin TJ, I feel like it's
- 37:09Speaker 1: a little more like you, fun loving kind of guy.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I know he didn't play last season with the Capitals,
- 37:13Speaker 1: but how much were you around the team, and of
- 37:15Speaker 1: course Obie's incredible gold chase hunting down Gretz.
- 37:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I was, I was around a lot
- 37:20Speaker 7: at the at the beginning during training camp, went with
- 37:23Speaker 7: the team. We brought back our like team bonding trip
- 37:29Speaker 7: this year, which we hadn't had for a couple of years,
- 37:33Speaker 7: and uh, definitely I was around during during the chase
- 37:37Speaker 7: and Ted was generous enough to have me and Backy
- 37:41Speaker 7: you know, fly with him.
- 37:42Speaker 4: From game to game. Luckily ob made it pretty quick,
- 37:44Speaker 4: so make too many trips.
- 37:47Speaker 7: But no, it was it was an incredible, incredible year,
- 37:52Speaker 7: incredible seeing him do it. I mean it's been a
- 37:56Speaker 7: couple of years since I stopped. Like people ask me
- 37:59Speaker 7: all the time, like is he getting retires, is he
- 38:00Speaker 7: going to slow it down? Is going to get the record?
- 38:03Speaker 7: And my first two years I was like, yeah, I
- 38:06Speaker 7: don't know. Yeah, I guess everyone you hear like all
- 38:08Speaker 7: your too, your windows over like it's you know. And
- 38:12Speaker 7: then I was like, you know what, always gonna do
- 38:15Speaker 7: whatever he wants to put his mind to, and so
- 38:17Speaker 7: I stopped guessing how far he can go, how many
- 38:20Speaker 7: goals he can score, and sure enough he got it done.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I mean I was one of those those doubters. I
- 38:27Speaker 2: was like, I mean, he's gonna get there, but it's
- 38:30Speaker 2: gonna take him a while. And you know, I think
- 38:32Speaker 2: as athletes we love seeing guys that kind of defy
- 38:35Speaker 2: father time and he's done that. And and you know,
- 38:39Speaker 2: there wasn't really a moment more than when he came
- 38:41Speaker 2: back from that leg injury, like like how is that?
- 38:43Speaker 2: Like were you around the room when he was rehabbing,
- 38:46Speaker 2: and like, as a guy that you know, I was
- 38:47Speaker 2: injured in my career and a lot, and it's like that,
- 38:50Speaker 2: that's just so disheartening. And he somehow came back quicker
- 38:54Speaker 2: than everybody thought.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 7: I I saw him the next morning and I walked
- 39:00Speaker 7: in and I'm sitting there like doing.
- 39:03Speaker 4: My cross or you know, I don't have anything to do,
- 39:06Speaker 4: so I was like, I don't even think like a
- 39:09Speaker 4: cross over your clothes.
- 39:10Speaker 7: Yeah, we were a big cross for a team, and
- 39:13Speaker 7: we got the recliners, you know, almost getting into like
- 39:15Speaker 7: the Walt territory a little bit.
- 39:17Speaker 2: That's how I said, you're gonna give yourself a bathroom?
- 39:19Speaker 7: Yeah, and uh and uh no.
- 39:23Speaker 4: I I saw him.
- 39:24Speaker 7: I look over and he's like walking in and he
- 39:27Speaker 7: broke his leg like the day before, and I'm like, oh.
- 39:30Speaker 4: What are you doing.
- 39:31Speaker 2: He's like I'm walking in.
- 39:33Speaker 7: He's like I'm fine, bad, fine. He had like he
- 39:36Speaker 7: had like crutches, but like set him down and then
- 39:38Speaker 7: like walked around the table to like get up right,
- 39:41Speaker 7: and and I'm like and he sits down and I
- 39:44Speaker 7: go look, I'm like, let me see the X rays.
- 39:46Speaker 4: I looked at him. I mean, he's broke. Like his
- 39:48Speaker 4: leg was broken.
- 39:49Speaker 7: It wasn't like a small sliver, like a little crack,
- 39:52Speaker 7: it was broken. His bone was in half. And I
- 39:55Speaker 7: was like, oh man. I was like, I had a
- 39:57Speaker 7: spiral fracture, you know. I got like a plate and
- 40:00Speaker 7: screws down above my ankle.
- 40:02Speaker 4: And I was like, damn, m that sucks. Man.
- 40:05Speaker 7: It's gonna be like, you know, a couple of months
- 40:08Speaker 7: until you can skate again. And he's like, no, babe,
- 40:10Speaker 7: i'll be on the ice in two weeks. And I
- 40:12Speaker 7: was like, I was like, oh, there's no chance. He's
- 40:15Speaker 7: like watch, I'll be on the ice in two weeks.
- 40:17Speaker 2: We and so that's crazy to me. So he's got
- 40:21Speaker 2: to know something, some Russian medicine. Then I don't know.
- 40:24Speaker 7: I don't well, he's like different. His I swear his
- 40:27Speaker 7: bones are like different. Like he's just I don't know
- 40:30Speaker 7: how to explain it. Like he's Everyone talks about how
- 40:33Speaker 7: healthy is like he's not that healthy, like he as
- 40:36Speaker 7: far as like his body, like how he he's hurt
- 40:39Speaker 7: a lot. Yeah, never doesn't play. He has like this
- 40:43Speaker 7: insane patrens. You see him like getting hit in the
- 40:46Speaker 7: bench with a puck in the face and he just
- 40:48Speaker 7: like licks his like cheek and like goes back to
- 40:51Speaker 7: watching like getting hit with the puck in the face.
- 40:54Speaker 7: Most people drop to the floor.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and he hurts.
- 40:57Speaker 7: He was like, oh something like nick me. It's like, yeah,
- 41:00Speaker 7: you got him the puck in the face. But yeah,
- 41:03Speaker 7: So anyways, two weeks literally is two weeks later from
- 41:05Speaker 7: that day, I'm at home and he sends a video
- 41:10Speaker 7: to my phone and I'm like, I'm at home with
- 41:12Speaker 7: my wife.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Sends a people of my phone and it's him.
- 41:15Speaker 7: On the ice, like not skating, but like on the
- 41:19Speaker 7: ice moving around with the skates on, and.
- 41:21Speaker 4: It's like, I'm like, dude, you're insane.
- 41:24Speaker 2: How is Like the group chat during that time guys
- 41:26Speaker 2: were just like, is this fucking for real?
- 41:28Speaker 4: I Mean that's.
- 41:29Speaker 7: He's He's so such like an incredible just human being
- 41:34Speaker 7: and like so many different facets of life that like
- 41:37Speaker 7: he's like the topic of conversation a lot of times
- 41:40Speaker 7: like he's just that.
- 41:42Speaker 4: It's just I don't know, he's just OV. It's it's amazing.
- 41:46Speaker 7: It's like funny, incredible, like impressive, like dumbfounded, something like
- 41:51Speaker 7: I don't know how to how to describe it.
- 41:53Speaker 4: He's like one of a kind.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I mean he is, and I don't know if there'll
- 41:57Speaker 2: be another one like him. And I mean yourself too.
- 42:00Speaker 2: You're you're so unique in what you've done in your
- 42:02Speaker 2: career and in your personality. But talk a little bit.
- 42:04Speaker 2: We had you on the network and we talked about
- 42:07Speaker 2: your affinity for Mario Kart and then you got a
- 42:10Speaker 2: tattoo of Warrio on your leg, which is, uh, we
- 42:14Speaker 2: we could not have guessed it, but you got it
- 42:16Speaker 2: was insane. But just talk about that, like stint in
- 42:19Speaker 2: the bubble with OV, with those guys, and how great
- 42:23Speaker 2: it was that you guys found something to like all
- 42:25Speaker 2: kind of collectively play around, which is Mario Kart.
- 42:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:28Speaker 7: Man, it really at the time, it was just like
- 42:31Speaker 7: there's just so much time in the hotel and so
- 42:34Speaker 7: we're like, let's just play Mario Kart. And for whatever reason,
- 42:37Speaker 7: it almost became like a religion, like you're going you're
- 42:41Speaker 7: on the plane. You know you're going on the road,
- 42:42Speaker 7: and you're like, boys, I can't wait to like set
- 42:44Speaker 7: it up, like you just like go in, throw your
- 42:47Speaker 7: bags down. I'd usually if you had a Mario Kart backpack,
- 42:50Speaker 7: like a Nintendo sixty four backpack that we carried it in.
- 42:53Speaker 7: And so usually when we get off the plane, our
- 42:55Speaker 7: team services guy Rob maybe like the best in the business.
- 42:59Speaker 4: So Rob, right when I get off, you'd like hand
- 43:01Speaker 4: me the backpack, I'd take it.
- 43:04Speaker 7: I'd go straight to the lounge, set up all the
- 43:07Speaker 7: video games because usually they have like the PlayStation five set.
- 43:10Speaker 4: Up like the wrong way or whatever.
- 43:12Speaker 7: Yeah, that way, I could pick what TV the Mario
- 43:14Speaker 7: Kard gets and what the PlayStation gets, and I would
- 43:18Speaker 7: like move it out of the way, set it up,
- 43:19Speaker 7: move the chairs, and then I would go out to
- 43:22Speaker 7: my room, set my bags down, switch into like your sweats,
- 43:25Speaker 7: and then run down there because you want to get.
- 43:27Speaker 2: A controller, have to.
- 43:30Speaker 7: And so it became like a I don't know, it
- 43:33Speaker 7: was just like our way to bond. And we were
- 43:35Speaker 7: always in the lounge, not only just playing Mariocard. That
- 43:39Speaker 7: was like our like section of guys, but like everyone
- 43:42Speaker 7: was just always in the lounge when we were like
- 43:44Speaker 7: bonding that year, it wasn't like guys going to their
- 43:46Speaker 7: room and doing their own thing or guys going out
- 43:48Speaker 7: to dinner for their own thing.
- 43:49Speaker 4: It was like everyone was just together.
- 43:51Speaker 7: The whole run, and uh, you know, kind of almost
- 43:56Speaker 7: the same way we played the game. We were just
- 43:58Speaker 7: like fully like together and no one was complaining about anything,
- 44:04Speaker 7: just you know, onto the next and bonding and having fun.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Like I'm sure you've answered this, you know a bunch
- 44:11Speaker 2: and have thought about it, but like you know, and
- 44:13Speaker 2: I know, it's it's really a common sentiment between guys
- 44:15Speaker 2: when you retire. Myself included of like, you know, some
- 44:19Speaker 2: personally you're gonna miss, which is always seems to come
- 44:21Speaker 2: up the guys in the locker room and the camaraderie.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Is that kind of the same vein for you? Is
- 44:26Speaker 2: there anything else that kind of you're gonna miss about
- 44:29Speaker 2: the game and going to the rink every day?
- 44:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think the I think why everyone
- 44:37Speaker 7: says it's like the guys and why that part's so
- 44:39Speaker 7: important is because you're really like I guess metaphorically, but
- 44:44Speaker 7: you're like going to war on the ice every day.
- 44:46Speaker 7: And so it almost like that that time that you're
- 44:49Speaker 7: together not on the ice is just like you just
- 44:51Speaker 7: bond it even more, you know what I mean. A
- 44:53Speaker 7: lot of times you're bonding over the game. You're bonding
- 44:57Speaker 7: over like tough losses, You're bonding over huge wins, you
- 45:00Speaker 7: know what I mean. And so you guys, you take
- 45:03Speaker 7: this emotional or coaster together like all every right, and
- 45:07Speaker 7: it's just like you're doing that together, whereas like not
- 45:11Speaker 7: every guy is like moving to a different state right
- 45:14Speaker 7: now that I can just like grab a beer with
- 45:16Speaker 7: at night, you know what I mean. It's it's just
- 45:18Speaker 7: so you missed that going through things together.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Gosh.
- 45:22Speaker 7: Other than that, just like the competition, I was like
- 45:24Speaker 7: my whole life even now, Like maybe that's why people
- 45:28Speaker 7: like having like a couple of drinks with me, because
- 45:29Speaker 7: like I need to get like some type of game going,
- 45:32Speaker 7: you know what I mean. And I'm just like I
- 45:37Speaker 7: can sit and chat for a little bit, and I'm like,
- 45:39Speaker 7: all right, guys, let's go like get in here, you know.
- 45:42Speaker 7: And so like I miss that about hockey that like
- 45:45Speaker 7: every day and I would make every like I tried
- 45:47Speaker 7: to make like practices like turn them into game somehow
- 45:50Speaker 7: or after the after practice have the guys down at
- 45:52Speaker 7: my end and be like hey, backhand crossbar, like like
- 45:57Speaker 7: let's go, you know, And so I I kind of
- 45:59Speaker 7: I miss that part. It translates a little into like
- 46:03Speaker 7: me and my kids and stuff. But but you know,
- 46:05Speaker 7: you miss miss your time with the boys.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and that is the biggest thing, and I love that.
- 46:11Speaker 2: So we'll have to find a time to grab a
- 46:13Speaker 2: beer at some time because I need to play shuffle
- 46:15Speaker 2: or I need to do something and keep those juices going.
- 46:18Speaker 2: But now that you're done, you kind of did a
- 46:20Speaker 2: little stint, you did some ESPN stuff. You know, did
- 46:23Speaker 2: you enjoy it? Did you get a good feeling of that?
- 46:25Speaker 2: Is that's something you're trying to hope to kind of
- 46:26Speaker 2: continue and kind of what's next for you? Are you
- 46:29Speaker 2: just taking some time to get settled in the new
- 46:31Speaker 2: house and and just take a breath.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Yeah. ESPN was great. I loved it.
- 46:37Speaker 2: You're great, Uka mass for great.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Steve was great.
- 46:41Speaker 7: It was it was really eye opening, that is I
- 46:46Speaker 7: mean it was at the start, it was so much
- 46:49Speaker 7: harder than I thought it would ever be with like
- 46:51Speaker 7: the ear piece in that's tough, and like people talking.
- 46:55Speaker 7: I'd never even said a word with like one of
- 46:59Speaker 7: my ears plugged, and so like right off the hop,
- 47:02Speaker 7: I was like, oh boy, like I'm thinking about my
- 47:05Speaker 7: ear piece, my legs shaking because I'm nervous, the desk
- 47:08Speaker 7: is like tight on my thighs, and like I don't
- 47:10Speaker 7: like that.
- 47:11Speaker 2: You know, here, I'm coming my notes.
- 47:14Speaker 7: I got to remember like what my question is and
- 47:17Speaker 7: and so it was very hard at the start. And
- 47:19Speaker 7: by the end of the second intermission, They're like, all right,
- 47:22Speaker 7: we're done.
- 47:23Speaker 4: And I was like, oh what, Like I just felt
- 47:26Speaker 4: like I was getting caught out my rhythm, Like I'm.
- 47:28Speaker 7: Sitting there like, no, we're done, We're good, and like
- 47:31Speaker 7: get a plate and like and uh. And I was
- 47:35Speaker 7: like they're sitting there probably like oh thank God, Like
- 47:37Speaker 7: I can't wait to go home, and I'm sitting there
- 47:39Speaker 7: like please go it overtime, Please go to overtime, like one.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Moreh Never you never say that on there, you never
- 47:47Speaker 2: say that. I've been stuck in a couple of long days.
- 47:49Speaker 2: But yeah, it's the scary thing is the ear piece,
- 47:53Speaker 2: like cause you're you know, somebody's counting you down in
- 47:55Speaker 2: your ear and you're trying to get a point off
- 47:57Speaker 2: and you're like all year in years thirty twenty five
- 48:00Speaker 2: and you're like, fuck, I haven't even gotten to the
- 48:01Speaker 2: best part.
- 48:02Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I know it was. I mean at one point,
- 48:05Speaker 7: it was at the end, they're like everyone had one
- 48:08Speaker 7: last take. I think it was at and the second
- 48:11Speaker 7: second intermission, maybe everyone had one last one for the game, Like,
- 48:14Speaker 7: how does you know? Whatever it is, and they're like,
- 48:18Speaker 7: everyone gets seven seconds. Well, they were counting down the
- 48:21Speaker 7: seconds that we all had combined, and when it got
- 48:24Speaker 7: to me, it was down to like one second.
- 48:28Speaker 2: That's brutal.
- 48:28Speaker 4: That's they they gave me. They gave me the extra time.
- 48:33Speaker 4: You know. Steve Lee obviously like an.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Absolute he's he's the king.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Yeah, he's the king. So he saved me at the end.
- 48:40Speaker 7: But in my mind, I was like, I don't know
- 48:43Speaker 7: what happened. So in my mind I was like, I'm
- 48:45Speaker 7: gonna be talking and it's just gonna cut.
- 48:48Speaker 4: You know, I don't know, I don't know how what
- 48:50Speaker 4: happens credits, and so.
- 48:54Speaker 7: I think it ended up being okay, and and I
- 48:56Speaker 7: got my you know quick, I only needed like three
- 48:59Speaker 7: seconds to say whatever I need to say.
- 49:01Speaker 4: But it is.
- 49:02Speaker 7: Something I'm pursuing right now a little bit. I'm also
- 49:04Speaker 7: talking to the Caps about some stuff nice and so yeah,
- 49:08Speaker 7: I'm kind of trying to get my foot in the
- 49:10Speaker 7: door and like a couple of different things and uh, yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 7: we'll see, we'll see where it takes me. TV was fun.
- 49:17Speaker 7: I could see my skill self getting into that. I
- 49:19Speaker 7: would love to coach, I really really would. I just
- 49:22Speaker 7: don't have the time with four kids right now.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you're eleven. I just can't do it.
- 49:27Speaker 7: But I know I was like, like watching Mighty Ducks
- 49:31Speaker 7: back in the day Charlie Conway when he like gave
- 49:33Speaker 7: away his skate and grabbed the clipboard.
- 49:35Speaker 4: I was like, Oh, that's gonna be me one day,
- 49:37Speaker 4: you know.
- 49:38Speaker 2: So transition, that's awesome, man, Yeah that's yeah.
- 49:42Speaker 4: So well, well we'll see what happens. But the TV
- 49:45Speaker 4: was fun.
- 49:45Speaker 2: ESPN.
- 49:46Speaker 4: ESPN was first class and it was.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Great, oh amazing. And you know, finally for you, I
- 49:52Speaker 2: just wanted to give you the kind of space to
- 49:55Speaker 2: talk about war Road and is there anything kind of
- 49:57Speaker 2: new coming out or or just any developments for you guys.
- 50:00Speaker 2: And you're doing great work and you know, protecting kids
- 50:04Speaker 2: and protecting athletes in general.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Thank you. Yeah, it's uh, you know, it's coming along.
- 50:09Speaker 7: Growing a business is tough, but we're doing it for
- 50:12Speaker 7: the right reasons and we're trying to do it the
- 50:14Speaker 7: right way. So we're trying to protect as many as
- 50:18Speaker 7: many kids as possible. I think a lot of times,
- 50:20Speaker 7: a lot of kids. Last year kind of went more
- 50:22Speaker 7: forward towards like the doughnut neck guard thing a little bit,
- 50:25Speaker 7: and so right now we're just trying to educate that
- 50:28Speaker 7: what we have is a little more protective. You know,
- 50:30Speaker 7: you got the collar bone, you got the whole thing covered.
- 50:32Speaker 7: We're making it as comfortable as possible. We're working on,
- 50:36Speaker 7: you know, the next generation, which I think is going
- 50:38Speaker 7: to be pretty cool, but it's a little bit out.
- 50:42Speaker 7: So just trying to grow it. Hopefully kids out there
- 50:44Speaker 7: and everyone just stays safe. You know, it takes that one.
- 50:49Speaker 7: It's always a crazy accident, right, There's no reason a
- 50:51Speaker 7: skates should be by your neck. But even like I
- 50:54Speaker 7: was going through it's one of my one of my
- 50:56Speaker 7: buddies sent me a like a hit video that someone
- 50:59Speaker 7: made to me on it on Instagram.
- 51:01Speaker 4: I was like, oh, what's this.
- 51:02Speaker 7: I clicked it and there was like two or three
- 51:05Speaker 7: hits where either we were going to the ice or
- 51:08Speaker 7: just I hit a guy and his skates come up
- 51:10Speaker 7: and like hit me in the shoulder. One time I
- 51:12Speaker 7: ran over someone in Minnesota. I can't remember who it was,
- 51:17Speaker 7: and he I fell on top of him. My skate
- 51:19Speaker 7: came through and like looked like it like clipped his vibes.
- 51:22Speaker 2: It's so close all the time, so I'm was like, gosh.
- 51:25Speaker 7: Like I look at those now obviously trying to you know,
- 51:28Speaker 7: making bass layers with neck protection and yeah, risk protection
- 51:33Speaker 7: all that. I'm like, man, that is so close and
- 51:36Speaker 7: you just don't know. So you know, I just hope
- 51:38Speaker 7: the kids stay safe they wear World or not. We're
- 51:41Speaker 7: just trying to protect the game.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Awesome, Boddy, that's great. Well you got so much going on.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Go hang with the family, go take care of all
- 51:50Speaker 2: that stuff and moving, and we hope to see you soon.
- 51:53Speaker 2: But thanks so much Tjohi, and good luck and retirement.
- 51:56Speaker 2: And I'm sure it's not the last we've seen you,
- 51:58Speaker 2: that's for sure.
- 51:58Speaker 4: Thanks brother, appreciate it.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Thanks once again to tj osh As it's now time
- 52:09Speaker 1: for a little centophile. In sixty Jad and I both
- 52:12Speaker 1: saw Superman talents has been stuck watching kids movies. Tal
- 52:15Speaker 1: I saved editing for you Ari Astro's new movie We'll
- 52:17Speaker 1: do That Another Time, which was fantastic new movie Starry
- 52:20Speaker 1: Paedro piscal and Joaquin Phoenix. My new Superman is the
- 52:22Speaker 1: big one, so we gotta get to that. And plus
- 52:24Speaker 1: I did watch the new Naked Gun movie, which is
- 52:26Speaker 1: really funny.
- 52:26Speaker 3: So Superman JD.
- 52:27Speaker 1: I'm fired up to go see it, obviously the kids
- 52:29Speaker 1: want to go. And I was really disappointed by a couple.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Of main issues.
- 52:32Speaker 1: People send me this video of Mike Frances's eight and
- 52:35Speaker 1: a half minute rant against Superman, and I got listen to.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Mike Francisco is nice stuff, guy. I'm sure he's a
- 52:39Speaker 1: Radio Hall favorer. I'm not gonna watch it. Eight and
- 52:40Speaker 1: a half minute rant to go. Now, dude, you have
- 52:41Speaker 1: to watch it. So I wait until I Sadimnway, which
- 52:43Speaker 1: I was disappointed by. Then I watched it and I
- 52:45Speaker 1: thought it was hysterical and two of his major points
- 52:47Speaker 1: which I agree with. One enough with the dog? What's
- 52:49Speaker 1: with the dog? I don't care about Crypto?
- 52:51Speaker 2: What's with like? Who cares? It's a Superman movie.
- 52:54Speaker 3: I couldn't agree.
- 52:54Speaker 1: More like, maybe it's just I'm not a dog guy,
- 52:56Speaker 1: but enough with crypto everything. There's a dog, dog needs saving,
- 52:59Speaker 1: dog showing up again. Apparently one point James gun said
- 53:01Speaker 1: the dog would be even a.
- 53:03Speaker 2: More of a featured role.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Verst with the tript He's like, I'm gonna make the
- 53:05Speaker 1: dog basically the central part of the movie, which tells
- 53:08Speaker 1: you all you need to know.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Clearly playing to kids, waitmen, et cetera. Not really my jam.
- 53:11Speaker 1: The major issue is this though for me, way too
- 53:14Speaker 1: much of the supporting characters.
- 53:15Speaker 3: It's a Superman movie where Superman, Superman's goodness butt kicked
- 53:18Speaker 3: the whole movie. He shows up first, He's gonna hit
- 53:21Speaker 3: you can't do nothing.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Who's this guy, mister Terrific?
- 53:23Speaker 3: Like, mister Terrific ends.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Up having one of the most exciting sequences of the
- 53:26Speaker 1: entire movie. Lois Lane is writing, Shako and mister Tripp, Who.
- 53:29Speaker 2: The fuck is mister Terrific?
- 53:31Speaker 3: I want to watch a Superman movie.
- 53:33Speaker 1: I'm like, and this is James Gunn, who did such
- 53:35Speaker 1: a great job at the Guardians of the Galaxy. There's
- 53:37Speaker 1: no question about it. He reinvigorated that franchise. It's funny,
- 53:40Speaker 1: it's irreverend, it's different. But they love the multiverse, they
- 53:43Speaker 1: love the multiple characters. I just want Superman GD against
- 53:46Speaker 1: Lex Luthor and instead of getting all these other ancillary characters.
- 53:49Speaker 3: The guy plays Superman was fine.
- 53:50Speaker 1: He's not exactly Christopher Reeve love Brosnahand because I love
- 53:53Speaker 1: Marvel's missus Basel, she was all right.
- 53:55Speaker 3: But overall, form me, he's a disappointment. Having said that,
- 53:57Speaker 3: kids loved it.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Uh, the movie worldwide is not doing great, but Domestic
- 54:00Speaker 1: was a strong hit.
- 54:01Speaker 3: So we're gonna get Superman two and all the rest
- 54:03Speaker 3: of it. But for me, I was disappointed. What did
- 54:05Speaker 3: you think of the Man of Steel?
- 54:07Speaker 2: Well, when you make those points, so I enjoyed it
- 54:10Speaker 2: because I thought, when I'm looking at what I want
- 54:13Speaker 2: to see from Superman, I thought they brought it back
- 54:15Speaker 2: a little bit more hokey and he's like kind of
- 54:18Speaker 2: a just a kid from a farm and stuff like that.
- 54:23Speaker 2: So I enjoyed that. And he's very happy, go lucky.
- 54:25Speaker 2: You know, the dark Superman I never was the biggest
- 54:28Speaker 2: fan of because I don't think that was that was
- 54:31Speaker 2: ever Superman's vibe. He's just this good guy that that
- 54:34Speaker 2: is trying to do right and stumbles a lot of
- 54:37Speaker 2: the time because he's still learning as a human being
- 54:40Speaker 2: does so I like that. I mean I didn't, you know,
- 54:42Speaker 2: to your point when you mentioned the dog, I thought
- 54:45Speaker 2: there was too much crypto. I don't like an animated
- 54:48Speaker 2: dog is I hate animated animals and movies where it's
- 54:51Speaker 2: like this, you're playing with this random pet that doesn't
- 54:54Speaker 2: even exist, like it's a ball or it's it's like
- 54:56Speaker 2: some random human that's wearing a wearing those dots and yeah,
- 55:02Speaker 2: jumping in your arms. Like I didn't love that. I
- 55:05Speaker 2: enjoyed mister terrific. He actually was, Like I thought that
- 55:08Speaker 2: was like the best written character, right, But you know,
- 55:13Speaker 2: why show him that much makes no sense, you know,
- 55:16Speaker 2: him getting saved. I think they're trying to set up
- 55:18Speaker 2: for the next one. I mean, I thought Lex Luthor
- 55:20Speaker 2: was good. I thought I thought he was good. Yep,
- 55:23Speaker 2: I thought he played well. And those scenes with Lex
- 55:26Speaker 2: Luthor and Superman were the best scenes, you know, Like
- 55:29Speaker 2: those are the best scenes when they're arguing, battling, fighting,
- 55:32Speaker 2: Like that's that's what we to your point, what everyone
- 55:35Speaker 2: he wanted to see. But you know, I like overall,
- 55:37Speaker 2: it's like, Okay, good job, But it's always with DC.
- 55:41Speaker 2: I find you're just like, oh yeah, good, But like
- 55:45Speaker 2: I feel like I feel like you missed. I feel
- 55:47Speaker 2: like you missed what Marvel captured so early on. And
- 55:51Speaker 2: now I think Marvel's falling off a little bit. But
- 55:53Speaker 2: what they caught early on of like towing that line
- 55:55Speaker 2: between dark and light and all that stuff and the
- 55:57Speaker 2: funny and the so but yeah, too much animated dog.
- 56:02Speaker 1: With the whole battle DC versus Marvel, like overall should
- 56:05Speaker 1: be a route for Marble. All DC's got is Batman
- 56:07Speaker 1: and Superman, which are the two most iconic characters arguably
- 56:09Speaker 1: ever in comic book history. But then Marvel just has
- 56:12Speaker 1: a litany of great characters in addition to course of
- 56:14Speaker 1: Spider Man. Tal Are you gonna see Superman at some point?
- 56:16Speaker 1: Are you're just not interested you just have the time yet,
- 56:18Speaker 1: or you're gonna wait to streaming?
- 56:20Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 56:21Speaker 5: I kind of between Superman and Fantastic Four, I kind
- 56:26Speaker 5: of feel like, haven't we done all this?
- 56:28Speaker 2: Like I keep thinking of looks awful too. Yeah, I keep.
- 56:31Speaker 6: Thinking of Robbie Williams.
- 56:33Speaker 5: Like I feel like every five years someone tries to
- 56:36Speaker 5: throw Robbie Williams at us, and we're like, we're not
- 56:38Speaker 5: interested in Robbie Williams. I'm sure he's great and yeah,
- 56:42Speaker 5: but just I'm not into it. And I feel the
- 56:44Speaker 5: same way about Superman and Fantastic four. Superman I'll probably
- 56:48Speaker 5: stream at some point. I still need to see F one.
- 56:50Speaker 5: I'm way behind Naked Gun. We were talking about that
- 56:53Speaker 5: top weight that you That's the first thing I'm gonna
- 56:55Speaker 5: see in the next week or so.
- 56:56Speaker 2: You're not a Robbie Williams fan.
- 56:59Speaker 6: I saw I never forought to even do a deep dive.
- 57:03Speaker 2: And I saw that that Better Man biopic. I thought
- 57:06Speaker 2: it was fantastic. It was a monkey though, that was yeah. No,
- 57:09Speaker 2: I know it's yeah, but he is. Yeah, but I
- 57:11Speaker 2: I just enjoy it once you kind of look past it.
- 57:14Speaker 2: I I I really a story told through a monkey?
- 57:17Speaker 2: Is that different? Being different? Better Man?
- 57:21Speaker 1: Well, after you just pointed out, I think correctly. You
- 57:23Speaker 1: don't like these animated characters like all the.
- 57:26Speaker 2: No, I don't like animated I don't like animated animals dogs,
- 57:30Speaker 2: dogs because I play a monkey. Okay, I yeah, that
- 57:34Speaker 2: one was. I liked it. I liked the song I
- 57:36Speaker 2: like the I like the love story a bit, and j.
- 57:38Speaker 5: D the Robbie Williams defender who knew I touched a
- 57:42Speaker 5: nerve there.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I liked his music. I always liked Robby Williams music too.
- 57:46Speaker 5: That he's good, well, fantastic for then, I think more
- 57:48Speaker 5: speaks to this because like we've gone through this several
- 57:51Speaker 5: like there's literally, isn't there like a Michael B.
- 57:53Speaker 6: Jordan fantastic for a movie that no one's seen.
- 57:56Speaker 2: I mean I've seen it.
- 57:57Speaker 3: I wanted the thought of Better Man.
- 57:59Speaker 1: It dot generally positive reviews, but one of the biggest
- 58:01Speaker 1: box office flops of recent memory. One hundred and ten
- 58:04Speaker 1: million her budget and it grows twenty million dollars worldwide,
- 58:07Speaker 1: and Jasons is a defender of it.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Better Man. Wow, that's crazy. Me and me and me
- 58:12Speaker 2: and Jill watched it and we're both like, you know,
- 58:15Speaker 2: once you get past that APG. I liked it, but.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Some of you said it was a unique and potentially
- 58:23Speaker 1: off putting concept. Yeah, okay, let's get into the naked gun. Then,
- 58:29Speaker 1: like a blind man at an orgy, I was gonna
- 58:30Speaker 1: have to feel my way around like a midgetary urinal.
- 58:33Speaker 3: I just have to be on my toes.
- 58:34Speaker 1: It's tough to top the original Naked Gun with the
- 58:36Speaker 1: all time great comedies, but I thought it was a
- 58:38Speaker 1: fantastic job by Akiva Schaeffering Company. First off, Leah Neeson
- 58:42Speaker 1: is such a home run as Lieutenant Colonel Frank Drevens
- 58:45Speaker 1: and Leslie Nielsen know, his entire career played a lot
- 58:47Speaker 1: of dramatic roles. That's why Naked Gun was so refreshing,
- 58:49Speaker 1: was he had been a dramatic actor and then all
- 58:51Speaker 1: of a sudden shows up doing these great deadpan comedies.
- 58:54Speaker 3: And of course, you know Abrams and the Zucker Brothers.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Those guys pioneered a new style of comedy of the
- 58:58Speaker 1: airplane back in nineteen eighty and Naked Gun was an
- 59:00Speaker 1: extension of that.
- 59:01Speaker 3: But it's really tough to top the original.
- 59:03Speaker 1: It's got every single type of right syche gags, ponds
- 59:06Speaker 1: double on Taunders, and this one really kind of fits
- 59:08Speaker 1: into that mold. Nissan specifically a remarkable career, right He's
- 59:12Speaker 1: Oscar Schindler, does these great movies with gravitas, then he
- 59:14Speaker 1: becomes an action star and now doing a comedy. The
- 59:17Speaker 1: only really comedic shot that he's shown, which is hysterical.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Was Life's too short? Ricky Gervais show, he has one
- 59:23Speaker 1: scene if you haven't seen it before, it is like
- 59:25Speaker 1: on the floor hysterical. At one point he's talked. But
- 59:27Speaker 1: the reason he got Schindler's List because he makes lists
- 59:29Speaker 1: and Ricky Jervas's laughing it dead pays it. No, I
- 59:32Speaker 1: told Steven Goes Stephen, I make lists all the time,
- 59:34Speaker 1: like I should absolutely play this role.
- 59:35Speaker 3: And it is so funny the fact.
- 59:37Speaker 1: He stays in characters, so I knew, like, all right,
- 59:39Speaker 1: niece's got him to be funny, and he plays it
- 59:41Speaker 1: straight and hysterical. Great chemistry with him and Pamela Anderson
- 59:43Speaker 1: fellow Canadian who they've been canoonling on the red carpet.
- 59:46Speaker 3: They found their role that.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Was pretty I like that. I love it later stage
- 59:51Speaker 2: in life.
- 59:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they've got genuine chemistry in the movie. And what's
- 59:54Speaker 1: great about the movie it's short, eighty five minutes. You
- 59:56Speaker 1: take up the credits, it's eighty minutes. Just let's just go, man,
- 59:58Speaker 1: get in there and go twenty five minutes of trailers.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: So seven o'clock show, seven to twenty eighth the movie starts,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: but you're walking out there.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Eight fifty eight. Oh, I love it.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: Some big time laughs.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I mean, listen some some Missus Dottaby laugh was great,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: but I'm giving a solid three to for me beliefs
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: a good time, and more importantly, it might be the
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: biggest movie of the summer in terms of impact, because
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: we've come a long way away from JD having great comedies. Normally,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: every summer you'd say, what's the comedy of the summer,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: the Hangover, there's something about Mary.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Now it doesn't happen. Comedies just don't get released in theaters.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: So the fact there's actually a comedy seth McFarlan, who
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: produced it, that's what he was joking about. I want
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: to just explain to peeple what this is. It's a
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: movie where you go to the theater and actually laugh.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: We used to do that in the summers. That's what
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: kind of this is all about. So seventeen million dollar
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: opening and a forty two million dollar budget, that's a
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: good opening for them.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Opening the third behind Fantastic Forum.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Whatever the hell's was second place probably Superman, but good
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: stuff from the Nake Again. I hope people enjoyed, and
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: I think you guys will both really enjoyed as.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Well amazing Liam Neeson. He also had a small cameo
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: and ted ted one or two with the tricks are
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: for kids. That's hilarious, zach us. I was told that
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: tricks are specifically for kids. I'm taking this now. Yeah.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: The fact that he stays in character is so well done. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: I love his stuff with Pamela Anderson too. They did
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: it well.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Yeah, good John, all right, a couple more topics and
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: will bounce. He played his last year the NHL more
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: than a year ago. But how about your guy, Joe
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Pavelski still racking up wins American Century Championship. Favorite memory
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: of Joe Pevelski?
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Did you have any id?
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: Was this good a golfer?
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: You probably did well.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Can we go to Happy Gilmore first?
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Happy to go two?
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Three? Then Happy Gilmore. Happy Gilmore will go into into PAVs.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Yeah no.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: By the way, before, let me just prayable by this.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: I've had friends text me it's the worst way they've
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: seen in fifteen years. I said, why would you watch it?
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: You know it's a cash grab Unless you truly love
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Adam Sandler. I feel like you're gonna give me a
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: better review of what of my friends said, go ahead.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: I you know, what do you expect? You saw what
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: I wrote on Twitter when this guy wrote. And you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Adam Sandler plays on nostalgia and he plays on on
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: he plays the hits. I thought, man, his use of
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: his his daughters who are not actors is very tough.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: They just they aren't they, oh man? And and you
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: know the whole family thing with with with Bowen and
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: killing her and I know you have to have this
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: like sad thing and this comeback story. I just thought
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: it just did not have a place whatsoever. You know,
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: it just it had some moments. But again we you know,
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: I watched it with my wife and she's looking over
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: and she's like, you're telling me you couldn't have found
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: somebody else to play this part other than all these
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: cameos of these people that don't act at all. And yeah,
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: and and you're just you know, the Travis Kel season
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: The Bad Bad Bunny was awful, and and you know
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: you're trying to say, like, come on, like just give
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: somebody that you know, John Traturo was in Mister de
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: It's like, get a guy that can act, that can
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: that can play that role. Like, get somebody iconic, but
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: that can act, don't just cash grap And then when
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: they got to that Maxi golf thing that that match
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: against the other league was god awful and we were like,
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: what the fuck is going on in this movie? Like
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: it completely went turned into like an animated movie. But
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: you know, some fun parts in it, and again it's nostalgic.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: You finish it and you're like, Okay, that was bad,
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: but there are some nice things I saw. So it's
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: just one of those. It's the classic Adam Sandler movie.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: So you're not recommended this way. It's a bad film.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: You're saying if you like Adam Sandler and you like
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: grown Ups and it's basically grown Ups on steroids, you know,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: that's what it is, grown Ups two on steroids, where
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: it's every single one of his buddies minus you know,
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: the Spades and the Rocks and and Kevin James. Those
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: guys aren't in it. But he's got a you know,
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Rob Schneider mix a cameo. It's just cameo after cameo.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just almostay, we go. The cameos are great.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: It's when you're telling me the cameos are great. When
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: you're hanging your hat on that, that means that the
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: movie's not pretty good.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: The funniest part of it was I thought Scotty Scheffler
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: was great. The golf guys are actually pretty funny. Scotty
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Scheffler was good, Ricky Fowler, Xander Schoffli, those guys are
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: actually pretty funny, like the golf guys. So I enjoyed
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: that part of it. No Tiger would so thought he
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: would come in, but I just thought, overall, I thought
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: the golf guys, actually it was pretty funny, all right.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: The golf guy's the highlight. Speaking of golf guys, Joe Pavelski.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Wow, amazing wins acc nine years in the making, does
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: it great? Segue by you? Ah, Yeah, he was. I
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: mean the best part of that whole win was when
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: he stiff armed one of his buddies coming to hug
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: him to get to his wife, and he like threw
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: him aside. I was dying laughing. But I mean, that
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: guy is fuck. Anything that guy does he's good at.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: It's just one of those weird things. He's such a
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: good golfer, you know, I'd love to see him really
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: make a push. I don't know, if he would. But
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: you know, he's so good, he's you know, but he's
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: also a huge hunter and fisherman, like loves doing both
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: those and big games getting out Yeah, uh no, he does,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: like duck hunting, fucking geese, geese hunting, you know what.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: The when they're coming like.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Hey, we like going to Africa, Like I'm gonna go
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: big game hunting.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Yeah, with a knife. That's not a knife.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: This is a knife.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: This is a knife. That's not a knife. Yeah. Uh
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: I got a little Crocodile Dundee underrated. That's an underrated film.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I'm not sure with the sequels though, Like Crocodile Dundee
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: three is just brutal.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Every road on that.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: You know they're going to remake that at some point.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Hugh Jackman, he's Australian, he can do it.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Hemsworth will come in. That's not a knife. Yeah, But
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: good for him. I I thought I was, you know,
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: he's been really wanting when winning that for like nine
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: years and I've been trying to be his caddy for
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: seven of them and just ices me ebe well, he
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: plays with this really good buddy Matt Forna Taro so
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: shout out to those two big W big W for him.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Awesome news there and as far as another NHL players,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Nick Suzuki, Patrick Line hung out. I believe he was
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: pronounced Oscehega in Montreal, Ohiaga Oshiaga. Matt Kachuck, Mackenzie Wieger
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: got married along with Suzuki as well. Matt Barzelis reading
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: two holes in one less than a week apart.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: Panthers hift the cup to a cold Play concert.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: This has been one of the stories of the summer,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: the Coldplay concert, the affair thankfully, the.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Are we gonna get into that?
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Well, I'm just curious your thoughts and everyone's been talking about.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: It, curious your thoughts on that well, I think.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: They've already lost in life.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: When you're going to a cold Play concert in twenty
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: twenty five, I mean, what if you're gonna go see
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: you know in my place back in six I'm with you,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: but now I have no interest in seeing Chris Martin now.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: But I give Chris Martin. I give Chris martinkrat the
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: fact that he just immediately said, oh no, they're not
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: what they should be. Maybe they're having a fair incredible
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: that he was able to pick up on it.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Just wait record scratch. Coldplay puts on an absolute fantastic concert.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Maybe the pageantry of the lights, the songung, the singing,
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: the community. What is wrong with you? Love something? At it?
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Just love something? Listen.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: If you're gonna have an affair, you're gonna be a
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: little more discreet. I mean Coldplay concert.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you like sitting listen, You like sitting in a dark,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: musty movie theater and listening to trailers and watching the
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: credits and yeah, yeah that's my Like, yeah, you're you're
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: I like that about you. Who's your concert or choice?
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: I mean, it's you know what you Honestly, I'm kind
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: of like an old soul, you know, like i'd like,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: you know, the the classic crooners so to speak.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: I love by the way.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Seth McFarland just released like unreleased Sinatra recordings. That's what
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I've been listening to right now my Spotify. It's unbelievable.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: I like Sinatra.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Yeah, Seth mcfarrel like he loves Sinatra, so like he
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: filled these old basically they rearranged these old songs. It's
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: unreleased Sinatia. It's incredible. Seth McFarland pain Tribute to Frank.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I'm just sitting in my basement crooning all day listening
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: to something. I think of a guy like sept mcfeller.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: The guy could do Family Guy, which is like, you know,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: potty humor, vulgar at times disturbing, but then he's a
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: crooning like classic Sinatra.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: Like what a talent.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Seth MacFarland is talent raging liberal too, but what a talent.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: I love Seth.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I'm Kidadian, by the way, James Hagen's I went to
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: the Happy Gilmore two premiere, So.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: That kid is that kid is a that kid big
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: game getting after it right now, James James Hagen's when
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: I talked to him, he is on some he is
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: a PR team with him or something, because he's very polished,
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: very well spoken, and I think he's like, you know,
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: he plays the game very well.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Yeah, hopefully things work out as a debut season coming up. Also,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: a bunch of Lightning players took Pat Maroon with them
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: on a trip to Dublin. Pat Rooon now are colleague
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: and ahele. We have to get some stories with him.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: If irish eyes were smiling. Tom Wilson also played volleyball
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: with his dog.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: With all that being said, that's a tough that's a
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: tough one to finish.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Yeah, of all the things that happened, that's a.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Tough that's a tough note to finish. Tom Wilson playing
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: with his dog, Crypto, Tom Wilson and Crypto.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: No no, I was gonna say, Popper room. That's that's exciting,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Doublin having again.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Not a Guinness. Was safe that Scotland? Or is that Ireland?
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: That's oh it's Irish.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they both, they both, they both took a
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: ton of gitness.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Did you have a favorite offseason when you were playing
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: town once a now, something that could top top Wilson
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: playing volleyball with this dog?
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Well, man, I was, you know, I was when I
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: was young in San Jose. I stayed in San Jose
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: a couple of years and and I I would play,
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: you know, I would work out in the on the
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: week and during the week sorry, and then I'd go
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: to like Vegas or La on the weekends and I'd
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: just fly in and go enjoy the city and go
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: with either Joe Thornton or I'd go with myself for
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: buddies and i'd go just rip it out. So yeah,
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: rip it out, just bury myself after five good days
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: of working out, and that was the young, youthful stupidity
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: that I had. But no, that was one. Uh, you know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: I love traveling, so I you know, probably that my
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: World championship year was fun because you know, I got
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: to go to Cologne in Paris and me and my
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: wife stayed after At that time we were dating, and
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: we went to Buda Peste and where else did we go?
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Did we go to Iceland too? Might have went to
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Iceland too during that trip, but it was just a
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: cool trip, cool summer. Then you know, rolled that right
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: into working out and all that. But I mean, listen,
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: when you're the off seasons are fun, but you're also
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: just preparing for the next season, right, So you're working out,
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: you're taking care of yourself, and you know, you get
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: to this point August and you're like, your your colladays,
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: get me out of it. Yeah, you're just like, let's
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: start this now, or you know what I mean. So,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: so yeah, it's good. Okay, what's your what's your favorite
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: offic You never really have an off season, you're always
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: working working away.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Here baseball season a bit of a mess there at
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: the Bristol Motor Speedway. I'm not sure if you saw that.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: I was working Saturday night. The rains came town. Know,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: so they had a first ever baseball game, eighty five
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: thousand fans the Bristol Motor Speedies. So they built like
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: a diamond inside the racetrack. But then the rains came down.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: They started the game, had to had to postpone. The
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: game started, an absolute mess. Picked up the game Sunday,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: think when the game was played, but uh, it was
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: not ideal. Let's say about that way, we've lost tow
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: by the way, I think that means that's the end
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: of the episode.
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: He just got summoned. That's back now, all right.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: He's in he's in London right now. Towns in London.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: He said he's trying to talk and he can't even talk.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: This is unbelievable.
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: Sorry, my my family came into the room.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Sorry, I see I saw motions that little guy.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: That's not funny. He's in London right now. Are you
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: from London? Yeah?
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: Live from London?
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Okay, live listen. Let's say go enjoy time with your son.
