  It's the right way to describe the schedule that Iowa State was

  dealt yesterday, in particular, the month of February.

  to somehow navigate through record wise.

  column, we're going to say that the February is a 30 day month

  you have to finish in Arizona. So I mean, it's unbelievably

  tough trend, but it's going to be fun to watch it.

  it up and see those pre season rankings from Bartorvic, just

  how difficult it was. The only team out outside the

  top 100. Colorado one O 1, UCF 83,

  Arizona State 72. All right, there's kind of the

  delineation, but the Kansas Jayhawks are the 5th ranked team

  by his pre season rankings. Houston number one overall,

  followed by BYU number six overall.

  And they have to go to BYU. Arizona, they're 12th, that's

  February 30th. Iowa State is the 4th list of
• 6:41
  team #15 as we talked about the other day, Kansas is the #5 team

  that ranks 17th. Texas Tech at 27 Since he 32,

  Baylor. 34 Texas Tech, by the way.

  But after that from Oklahoma State, who's 49th, that's

  usually on the outside looking in.

  Are we looking at a year where maybe we're not talking about

  the same number of teams that can be tournament teams, that

  it's much more top heavy, that it's not the depth that we're

  and the final week of baseball and the NFL on Sunday.

  Is there any possible way? Has there been any discussion

  all about about moving this into August?

  Or is it just logistically impossible to do?

  Well, I think with so many ways that the golf schedule is

  getting contorted now with, you know, Liv and PGA Tour and you

  got playoffs. I mean, there's really not a

  tremendous amount of real estate left where players would feel

  like there was a, you know, a reasonable run up to it.

  And it wasn't going to intrude on the other things that they
• 21:23
  need to do for the rest of the year.

  But I mean, that being said, I personally think like with the

  Super Bowl, I think being on a big tournament, we can, you
• 21:34
  know, when the the Arizona event is usually the same weekend of

  the Super Bowl. I think it can work in favor of

  the event if you're on the same bill as all kinds of exciting

  stuff going on. And I do think that there's some
• 21:50
  time windows during the day, particularly on Saturday where,

  you know, we of course, regionally, college football is
• 21:57
  important. But I think you can, you can be

  the place that people go if there's, you know, if the games

  are blah or if there's not a game out in your time window.

  I think the schedule is what it is.

  I think the bigger concern, we haven't had any rain in the

  Northeast here and now we're supposed to get bounded with

  rain here for the next three or four days.

  So I don't know, I don't know if people are, I don't know if I

  can find my umbrella. So that might be the issue here

  is getting it in between kind of heavy weather.

  You look at this week and of course there's the pomp and

  circumstances, the red, white and blue against Team Euro.

  But I, I'm surprised this week that there's been so much talk
• 22:34
  about money and the American players getting paid.

  It's just another bad look. And though a majority of the
• 22:39
  players, maybe all the players have said that they're going to
• 22:42
  donate that $200,000 that they get, the Euros are taking it as
• 22:45
  kind of ammunition. And the point they just know how
• 22:48
  to play this thing, right? The Americans how do they paint
• 22:51
  themselves in corners where they look like buffoons, even when
• 22:53
  they're doing the right thing? Really.

  I think that that's the, the one weakness of this event in terms
• 22:59
  of the timing, is there's so much time leading up to it from
• 23:02
  the last time players played that you're looking for
• 23:05
  storylines. And you know, this, this would
• 23:07
  have been something I think to announce 2 years ago.

  You know, you say 2, yeah, two years from now they're going to
• 23:14
  get paid XYZ and just take all the bullets, You know, maybe the
• 23:18
  week after the night, the last Ryder Cup, then you announce it
• 23:20
  instead of creating, you know, it was like when Rory filed for
• 23:23
  divorce on the Monday of the PGA Championship.
• 23:25
  You're just, by doing it that way, you're just asking for
• 23:28
  people to ask questions that players don't want to ask to
• 23:33
  answer. And I think you're exactly
• 23:35
  right. I think that the media
• 23:36
  management of it is you're shooting yourself in the foot

  and distracting people from what they really want to talk about,
• 23:41
  which is meaningful golf. You've got all the best players
• 23:44
  on the same golf course in the one time other than the four
• 23:48
  majors and you get some energy and some pressure because the

  it's the team concept and the country concept that's so far

  into, you know, individual operator golfers that what
• 23:59
  that's what makes this fun. So the more the storylines can

  be about that and less about money, especially in the last
• 24:05
  two or three years where all we've been talking about is

  money and personal golf, I mean, it would be great just to have

  it be about who makes what shot when.

  No, absolutely the Patrick Cantley, I believe it was with

  the hat controversy. Unbelievable.

  So as with with the event being at Bethpage, obviously, and I

  think this I'm I'm the reason I'm bringing this up is I want

  to see I'm guessing Keegan Bradley will have the final say,

  right? Like the EUR will turn in their

  match play and then does Keegan Bradley get to get to match that

  as the captain of the home team? Because if he does, because does

  he put the Shambo against Rory McIlroy and give us as fans what

  we want to see or does he keep the Shambo away from from

  McElroy? Does he get last call well?

  Well, I mean, do you want the real answer or do you want, I

  mean, the, the real, the real answer is that they conspire,

  the captains conspire to to to give, to give a line up that

  people want to see, you know, but the reality, I mean, I guess

  technically speaking, you're supposed to fill out your roster

  And then it's everybody reveals at the same time and that's kind

  of who gets who. But the general, I think

  gentlemen's agreements generally happen where a, this is a match

  people want to see. So let's let's give it to him.

  I mean, I personally think that all that stuff, the talking and
• 25:25
  the sniping and that's fantastic for the event.

  And I would rather have people, you know, jawn about it and
• 25:32
  showing that they care about it as opposed to it being kind of
• 25:35
  an exhibition, You know, where everybody just said, well, we're
• 25:37
  just happy to be here and be playing on the same course and
• 25:40
  it's really going to be fun. I mean, I like it when players
• 25:43
  are outspoken. And I think one of the
• 25:46
  unfortunate things that happen these days is players get so
• 25:50
  much static when they speak up and say something that's on
• 25:52
  their mind. All we're doing is convincing
• 25:55
  them that they shouldn't say things that are on their mind.

  That's when you get incredibly boring press conferences where
• 26:00
  somebody says, you know, I'm just, I'm just excited to be
• 26:03
  here playing with the team and I can't wait to see what happens
• 26:05
  next. I want guys that have a little
• 26:07
  edge to them. United States has lost eight of
• 26:10
  the last eleven of these events, but when they've won, they've
• 26:13
  won in blowout. But I look at this roster and
• 26:16
  you look at those rosters, you can understand.

  And almost every single year it's a decided advantage in
• 26:21
  terms of just what these guys are on the American side.
• 26:25
  I don't see it the same way this year.

  There's a betting favorite, OK, no surprise it's on American
• 26:30
  soil. But boy, this seems, at least on
• 26:32
  paper, a much closer matchup than it does coming into any
• 26:35
  other Ryder Cup. Do you see it that way, Matt?

  There's no question. And there's a there's a little
• 26:41
  bit you could say that, you know, for example, the venue,
• 26:45
  the American team can set up the venue the way they want.
• 26:48
  So this is a gigantic golf course and they've basically cut
• 26:50
  down all the rough and said to Bryson, hey, hit it as far as
• 26:54
  you want to hit it. You know, they're trying to
• 26:55
  accentuate the playing styles of their own players.
• 26:58
  But when you make a golf course that's great for Bryson to hit
• 27:01
  tee shots on, it's also a golf course that's great for Rory to
• 27:04
  hit tee shots. So, you know, I think the
• 27:06
  reality is exactly what you described, and that's certainly
• 27:10
  the top half of the European team is really strong and the
• 27:13
  top half of the American team is really strong.

  And what tends to happen in these is how well the top half
• 27:20
  of the roster incorporates some of the younger players and gets
• 27:24
  them moving, you know, getting in a positive direction early in
• 27:27
  the week. What tends to happen to American
• 27:30
  teams as if there's some faltering from not necessarily
• 27:33
  younger players, but newer players to the Ryder Cup.
• 27:36
  And you kind of see those players disappear through the
• 27:39
  week where what Europe has been so good at is making pairings,
• 27:42
  where those players draw energy from a, you know, an expert.
• 27:46
  You know, someone like Sergio Garcia through all those years
• 27:48
  and someone like, you know, Jose Maria Olasaba all those years.
• 27:51
  You know, you're pulling other players with you and creating
• 27:54
  that. You know the the Tommy Fleetwood
• 27:57
  vibe where you know, the Ian Poulter vibe from years past
• 28:00
  where it might not be the person who's got the most sterling
• 28:04
  record outside of Ryder Cup, but they just somehow become Ryder
• 28:08
  Cup monsters because of that positive vibe.

  That's what I think the US is looking to find.

  Hard not to root for the Americans because of Keegan
• 28:16
  Bradley. From from where I sit, just the
• 28:18
  fact that he removed himself from consideration could have
• 28:21
  been a part of it, decided not to be, and let and made his
• 28:24
  choices without himself being involved in it.

  Be great for Keegan Bradley being great for the for the
• 28:30
  Americans to win. But maybe a little cherry on
• 28:32
  top, if Keegan Bradley is captain, is able to pull this
• 28:35
  off. So certainly to pull it off for
• 28:39
  the US and to pull it off on Long Island, he played at St.
• 28:42
  John's and, you know, there would be some kind of, you know,
• 28:45
  regional twice to being able to do it.
• 28:49
  And, you know, I think there's no shortage of storyline.

  I mean, Rory McIlroy is probably not going to win Player of the
• 28:56
  year in a year where he won the tournament that gave him the
• 28:59
  career Grand Slam and won The Players Championship.

  I mean, that's, that's it's amazing that that's where we are
• 29:05
  with Rory and with, you know, Scotty Scheffler.

  There's all kinds of great storylines that can get tied up
• 29:11
  in a nice bow here at the end of the season.

  I mean, what really has been a very exciting, you know, an
• 29:17
  exciting season. And I mean, the tour, the
• 29:19
  ratings for the tour events have been up.

  I mean, there's been some movement between the PGA Tour
• 29:25
  and live a little bit where some of the the hostility is gone.

  And I think there's so much great momentum.

  I would love to see a spirited event where the crowd is a part
• 29:34
  of it, but but the crowd is not so ugly that that becomes kind
• 29:38
  of a distraction. Final thing for me, should
• 29:41
  Keegan Bradley be playing this week?

  I think you could. You could certainly make the
• 29:48
  argument that he should. There's no doubt in my mind that
• 29:51
  he was one of the 12 best players over the last two years,
• 29:55
  and the US needs as many good players as it can get.
• 29:59
  And I do believe that the job requirements of the captain are
• 30:03
  kind of overblown. I mean, yes, there's some stuff
• 30:06
  that the captain has to do. And yes, there's media
• 30:08
  obligations. Yes, yes, yes.

  But there's also, like, 50 assistants, and there's a system
• 30:13
  in place that those kinds of responsibilities can get
• 30:17
  distributed around. Now, I would also say that the
• 30:21
  gesture of standing aside was a great galvanizing thing for the
• 30:26
  team. That was a big net positive.

  So you can't really, you can't take that part away.

  But in terms of, you know, being deserving and, you know, should

  he have his name on one of the bags that's going out under the

  first tee as opposed to under the cart?

  Yeah, he should. Your Spartans are three and one

  off to a pretty good start. USC is a pretty good football

  team, I think, But Sparty's off and running and they're your

  alma mater headed towards seemingly a pretty good year.
